Helloo there! I'd like to give lots of love for this story! I'm a fucking pusset, and I avoid horror with all my might, usually, but your story has been really intriguing and I'm, above all else, deadly curious! I think there's only one other horror IF that I actually like, and now there's yours too! The story seems to be pretty interesting and the MC being a private investigator only adds to that (me loves sniffing around where I shouldn't). When I read the whole swamp scene there was a giant storm here, and when we reach the parking area, the lights started to flick here, the game's sound made it a whole lot worse and I was like "Well, damn you wendigo sir, you already found me". 😢

I looved Elias, he's a real grumpy and my MC was so terrified that she resorted to violence, never my first option, but I loved the outcome. And I'm sooo curious about Shepard, and literally everyone. As Elias said "curiosity killed the cat" and oh man I'm in for a ride, no regrets.

Absolutely. My secret goal is to keep the conversation going back and forth for the longest possible time because I love the opportunity for a good ramble about my writing 😈

I wanna say Ad vitam æternam (L'art du crime)? I mean, it's literally an MCD fic, so, not that merry... Also if I remember correctly, Always lost in the sea (HPI) doesn't end on a very hopeful note either.

I don't know? All of them? None? I generally tend to go for happy open endings with that extra bit of bittersweet so I really couldn't tell. But hey, maybe the ending to that thing I'm currently writing actually is the happiest of it all, because oh boy, things do get cheesy at some point 🥺

No at all! Unless you count that one person who commented on several chapters of whichever long GG fic I wrote just to point blank hate on Beth character lol

Of course I do (in English only), I like my porn toxic and desperate and angsty with just the right amount of power play and mutual hatred. Basically, I write hatefuck 😂

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not really, no... I've tried a couple of times, but I think I'm better at/more interested in mimicking existing interactions than inventing a dynamic between characters who never met canonically (and also, boy the kind of SETUP you need to justify some characters crossing paths... it's just too much work). I'm more of a cameo/easter egg kind of writer, so once in a while I'll allow a character from another fandom to pop up in a fic and say hi, but it's really a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of encounter.

I guess my craziest attempt would be that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend / Good Girls crossover that I never finished though, cause like, super different moods?

Kinda? We never finished nor even posted it but at some point we shared a quite unhinged co-writing story with @whiskeyjack and @00gangfriend00 and it was a lot of fun 🥰

It's All Coming Back To Me, obviously. Look, I really really want to finish it, not even for me at this point, but for the 120-something people who subscribed to it, for the faithful readers who still leave me comments every now and then hoping for closure. I know how it ends. I have it partially written. I just don't seem to know how to write for Good Girls anymore, and getting my head back into it feels like such an insurmountable load of work, I just- I'm trying, ok?

But like, if someone's interested in helping, or even writing that ending based on my notes (and getting full and proper credits for it obvi), just let me know! I'm really open to it 🥲

16. What are your writing strengths?

Probably dialogues? I've been told many times that my dialogues feel very close to the original, and the thing is, I write about TV shows and I have a very good ear so I think I catch quite easily the actors' voices and tones and mannerisms in my head, so every time I write down a line, I play it several times in my mind with the character's voice to determine whether they would say it like that or not. Looks like it's not working so bad.

Also I *think* I'm not too bad at stream-of-consciousness inner monologues. At least it's one of my favourite things to write so there's that.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes (that includes sex lol). Filling the gaps between the important parts. Descriptions. Setting up the scene.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Like, featuring two different languages inside the same fic, or writing in different languages? I'm not sure I've ever really written the first one? I guess I find it a bit clunky, occasionally I've written scenes that included a character whose native language wasn't the one of the fic, and I'd give them a line or two if that's relevant to the plot (for instance, if characters are lost somewhere in another country, I can add a line/dialogue in another language for comedic effect. Or it can be a way for a character to whisper something for themselves), but the logistics are quite nightmarish, you gotta either assume your audience knows the second language, or translate the lines in the author's note, or have another character translate it in a way that doesn't sound too articifial, that's really really tedious haha

You know, it be preferable if certain Jily artists would bother to tag their art with poc/desi james potter tag. Cause not all of us consider that headcanon to be ‘canon’. The author is problematic and all, but that doesn’t mean race swapping existing white characters is any better/makes y’all superior. It works for Hermione because she’s a muggleborn and the added subtext of her being picked on by a racist, pureblood white prick like Draco and the garbage Malfoys. And this doesn’t fucking mean Jily=Dramione! Fuck no. If anything, James being the reverse of Draco, but similar in he too was a white, pure blood privileged boy raised and pampered but was actual taught to not be a complete dick to those who’s blood status isn’t pure. Changing his race to fit a certain headcanon is bs and makes Dursleys hypocritical and worse(but skin color logic, they should hate Kingsley too). And it’s always James & Harry. Never Sirius, Remus, or Lily(who has the most reason to be race swapped). So overall, this fandom is a joke

This is literally a fantasy series set in a country that actually has LOTS of POC but somehow we only encounter like... 3 into the wild. So it's only natural people would like to see more and share their preferred hc for characters race and look. Many of us also change the canonical Pansy pug-face and make her basically a top model, don't see people complain about that uh! 😂

If you don't like a certain way people draw a character it's fine, everyone has the right to enjoy things the way they like it. But that doesn't give you also the right to come to random people and tell them 'oh you feel superior bcs you race swapped the characters!' and all of this load of crap. Learn to curate your online experience better, block the people/things you don't wanna see and move on. Life's too short to argue about fictional characters

Ugh. You won't believe this. I'm sorry to bug you, but I just needed to vent.

I saw some idiot on twitter saying that when E met Priscilla he had an eleven year old girl living with him in Germany. They mentioned Scotty Moore said that in his book so I looked it up. What he said was at the time E met Cilla, he had an "even younger German girl" (his words) living in the house with his father and grandmother. Except...well, I can't find any proof of this; there’s no evidence nor mention of this girl (or how old she was) anywhere else in the book nor in any other books written about him. No proof he had anyone else like that living with him in Germany.

So I don’t think that claim is true. Where do people come up with this stuff anyway? How do you not get into an argument with these idiots? Because it's super annoying.

people who claim to hate elvis sure spend an awful lot of time reviling him on the internet, especially by regurgitating half-remembered anecdotal evidence without citing their sources. 🙄 on the other hand, it's also easy to fall into the trap of too-faithful elvis historian; by that i mean that the fact that so much of his life is documented sometimes makes us complacent in our belief that if it can't be verified by multiple primary sources that it must not have happened. but we can't always say, and getting too involved as if the historical accuracy of one particular proposed event is the end-all be-all of elvis fandom can get exhausting.!

i wouldn't be surprised to find out either way, that this was or wasn't true. but you're free to make up your own mind, and if it distresses you, then fwiw i think you Totally have a leg to stand on affirming it never happened, like you said !! ultimately, it doesn't have much bearing on right now- if you like elvis, this vague and nebulous criticism probably isn't the thing that'll make you stop liking elvis, and if you hate elvis, you're probably determined to keep doing that regardless.

regarding the twitdiots- while looking into this claim i found a lady on there who legitimately believed that agent elvis tells the true story of how e was experimented on and mind controlled into drug abuse by the government.. like she said That with her whooole chest. so i don't put much stock in public opinion over there 😂😂💀

i want to fight those people extremely often (they're not just on twitter, either- it seems to have died down a little praise GOD but especially in early days after the movie there was a wave of ppl on here who would put their elvis hate in the main tags. WHICH DROVE ME BATTY), but i come from the "don't feed the trolls" era of fandom. as much as id like to rip 'em a new one when they rehash the same two issues over and over and OVER again ad nauseum, i content myself with the fact that they're living a pathetic existence in which they actively choose to fill their life with something they dislike for... no discernable reason.?

no one who spends their time bringing up a dead celebrity at all opportunities just to bash them is actually open to a discussion. and i do think there is a discussion to be had- his life was certainly very troubled, and i think there are a lot of nuanced issues that benefit from being spoken about openly !!!

I just went through your entire ES/LS tag and FUCK me. It was everything i needed but still not enough. I could read 5 million words of your thoughts on it all. I would read a 40-part series set in this universe. I want to write a 40-part series set in this universe, but I wouldn't be able to do justice to what you've created.

I'm dead serious when I say: everthing you've written about the ES/LS verse - the fics, the drabbles, just the general musings - is SO good. You understand these characters so well. You capture their mannerisms and voices and inner worlds so aptly. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! I have officially joined the ranks of your raving fans.

I'd love to share some of my thoughts, if that's okay! Adding a break cause i ended up writing waaayyyyy more than I thought I would 😂

1. Sam's similarity to John:

I think LS!Sam has probably done some self-reflection on that topic, and has mixed feelings about it. I think he makes a conscious effort to NOT be like John, like in his interactions with Jack or in his role as Chief. But we've also seen him become most like John when Dean is dead or missing (the flashbacks in 4.09 of drunk Sam begging a demon to switch places with Dean in hell; Sam going full terminator for six whole months hunting the trickster in 3.11; Sam torturing a demon in 10.01). So I think Sam is most like John when he's at his worst - his most despairing, his most terrified, his most livid.

I think that's part of what contributes to LS!Sam's more gracious opinion of his father. He knows that John was doing his best because LS!Sam himself is doing his best. He is more forgiving of John as he ages because he understands him more. But conversely, seeing John in himself makes him hate John a little more, too. LS!Sam most definitely hates himself. It's just a low hum of the refrigerator in the background of his life - ever present, hardly noticeable most of the time. He's just learned to function with it and not dwell on it for the sake of his loved ones or the world itself. So because he hates himself, and his behaviours mimic John's, he hates John in a sort of backwards way because now John reminds him of himself.

But ES!Sam doesn't have the experience and knowledge that LS!Sam has. Even as early as 1.02, he starts to act like John and ES!Dean can see it, but ES!Sam is a bit more in denial. In 1.20, Sam says that he and his dad have a lot more in common than anyone else, but he's just thinking about Mary and Jess. Earlier in that episode, he and John had been fighting as usual and they continue butting heads into 2.01. I think after John died, Sam's shame makes him treat John's memory more gently than he treated John himself, as well as the absence of John's attempted imposed control, which Sam had always resented.

So if ES!Sam sees LS!Sam acting like John and gets mad about it, and he spits out, "you're fucking just like Dad", all venom and vitriol, LS!Sam will understand that as the insult ES!Sam means it to be, and LS!Sam will feel it like a knife.

(ES!Dean, on the other hand, would want to be fucked through the mattress by LS!Sam while ES!Dean sobs out "Daddy" and LS!Sam growls "good boy".)

2. I think ES!Sam would trigger LS!Sam.

Not like anything ES!Sam does would remind LS!Sam of the cage or anything like that. But ES!Sam doesn't even know about the existence of angels, or that he's Lucifer's perfect vessel. He's young and he's college educated and he's angry and cocky. And sure, maybe he's not the best version of himself, but he has such self-assuredness and purity of conviction that LS!Sam is smacked in the face with the self that he lost, the self that was almost 200 years ago for his present self. I think it really forces him to confront how traumatized he is and how much he has changed because of that. I think he misses how simple everything seemed back then, and how right he felt about everything, how righteous. And I think realizing how different he was and missing how different life was would send him into a spiral and maybe trigger a panic attack. ES!Sam would be confused and a little irritated and his older self who just seemingly fell apart out of nowhere and LS!Sam would be jealous of him for that. LS!Dean would totally Get It, because he grieves that version of Sam, too. ES!Dean would be absolutely terrified.

3. The crux of it all is free will.

ES!Sam rebelled against John because he wanted to exert his own will and forge his own path, not one laid out for him by his father. ES!Sam views hunting as a choice - a self-destructive one. To ES!Sam, the Winchesters have no particular, unique responsibility to be hunters, any more than any other human. And to choose that lifestyle is to make an objectively unhealthy choice for yourself and your loved ones. And why should you sacrifice your own family for a mission that promises no peace, no safety, no reward, not even an end?

But LS!Sam knows that he was destined to this lifestyle many times over, but not in the way he's living it presently. LS!Sam knows that Azazel fed him demon blood to make him Lucifer's perfect vessel. LS!Sam knows that the angels conspired to join the Campbell and the Winchester bloodlines - hunters and men of letters - to create Lucifer's and Michael's vessels for the long foretold battle. LS!Sam knows that Chuck has been pulling the strings all along, playing with LS!Sam's life for his own amusement. LS!Sam chose hunting because it was the rebellious choice that would save himself, his brother, their loved ones, and the whole world. LS!Sam willingly jumped into a cage in the deepest pits of hell with Lucifer because he wouldn't let Lucifer use him to kill Dean or let Michael use Dean to kill Lucifer. LS!Sam saw that Dean was losing himself to the Mark of Cain and said, "let's use dark magic to unleash an unknown curse of cosmic proportions because it'll save Dean. We can worry about the curse later. Whatever it is, we can handle it. Because of course we can." "Hunting" for LS!Sam doesn't mean the same thing it does for ES!Sam. "Hunting" for LS!Sam means "my brother and I were appointed a destiny by forces far beyond our control but instead of accepting that destiny, we became the poster boys for the indomitable spirit of humanity and the defenders of free will for all humans and if we have to hunt God Himself then so be it."

And that's why LS!Sam seems so foreign and pathetic to ES!Sam - ES!Sam thinks that LS!Sam gave up his free will. But it's also why LS!Sam refuses to tell ES!Sam anything about the future and comes off as patronizing sometimes, because he knows that ES!Sam can't even understand the sheer force of his own will yet and can't even imagine the vast, immense powers that will be made to bend to his will.

4. The idea of ES!Sam discovering The Voicemail is sooooooo juicy.

If ES!Dean heard it, he would literally try to rip LS!Dean's throat out. (Another excellent opportunity for LS!Sam to restrain him and bodily lift him off the ground in doing so.)

But I am a sucker for a happy ending, so of course I want LS!Dean to hear it too and be like, "what the FUCK is THAT?" because he, of course, would be equally as angry as ES!Dean. Perhaps moreso, given everything that LS!Dean knows.

And at first no one believes that he didn't say it because it sounds just like him. But he tells them what he really said and of course he figures out that the angels were fucking with them, because Dean is clever and he would put that together very quickly. But he can't outright say that in front of the ES!Sam&Dean so he just lamely says, "it was...tampered with." And ES!Sam&Dean, who are from the early 2000s when deep fake and AI bullshit doesn't exist, and who probably aren't caught up on CSI, are all like "yeah right".

But LS!Sam gets it right away and probably begins to feel the tiniest glimmer of hope. But it's hard for him to really believe because of his deeply entrenched shame and self-loathing. And this voicemail was before the cage, so of course Lucifer used it to torture him for over a century. It's from such a long time ago and Sam knows it so well that it's a part of him now. It's stone number one, if you will.

And as you said, they probably don't want ES!Sam&Dean to meet anyone, but I can see LS!Sam&Dean arranging to meet Castiel somewhere and asking if he can confirm that there was angel interference, and even maybe retrieve the original. And when LS!Sam hears the original, it's like a dam inside him breaks and he just sobs and sobs and sobs. Later that night as they lie in bed together, LS!Dean strokes LS!Sam's face lightly and whispers "Baby" over and over again. And LS!Sam curls into him and puts his head on LS!Dean's chest. And LS!Dean wraps his arms around LS!Sam as LS!Sam shakes and takes shuddering breaths. And LS!Dean whispers in LS!Sam's ear, low and gruff and rare, "love you." And then they actually make love, staring into each other's eyes, touching each other's faces, clinging to each other. And it's slow but it's hard and deep, passionate and desperate, and LS!Sam cries some more when he comes. And afterwards he feels happier and more peaceful than he has in a long time.

5. I agree that LS!Sam&Dean would not take any firsts from ES!Sam&Dean.

I also agree that they would, however, want to force ES!Sam&Dean to admit their feelings for each other. They both know that they wanted each other way back then. And sometimes, when they can't form the words they need to say, they just fuck instead and communicate that way. It's also a good outlet for adrenaline or aggression, or for venting their possessiveness of each other. LS!Sam&Dean think that it'll only help ES!Sam&Dean if they get started.

It's a three-pronged approach.

First, the LS!Sam&Dean chat up the ES!Dean&Sam. When LS!Sam and ES!Dean are hanging out, LS!Sam will talk about how much Dean always made him laugh when they were younger and how he was secretly glad to see him when he showed up at Stanford, and how desperately he always wanted Dean's attention and approval but didn't know how to express it. When LS!Dean hangs out with ES!Sam, he talks about how he always admired and respected Sammy so much and would do anything for him. Both LS!Sam&Dean pepper in some light, strategic flirting throughout those conversations with each of their ES!brothers. It makes it ambiguous whether their meaning is strictly brotherly or something more, and it blurs the line between ES! and LS! versions. When LS!Sam talks to ES!Dean about how he felt about Dean, his Dean, when he was younger, he'll say "you" instead of "he". When LS!Dean talks to ES!Sam about the things he felt for his brother, he'll say "he" instead of "I".

Second, LS!Sam&Dean advise their younger selves. They'll say things like, "I see how he looks at you. I know what that look means. I've seen it on my Dean," or "you should hear the way your Sam talks about you. It's like you hung the friggin moon."

Third, and most importantly, I picture them continuously upping the ante with their pornographic theatrics and allowing ES!Sam&Dean to catch them in increasingly compromising positions in increasingly obvious circumstances but still pretending that it is always by accident and they're still trying to keep it secret. One night, they're almost certain that both ES!Sam and ES!Dean listen outside their door the entire time they're having sex, and they giggle to each other afterwards about how tense it must be for them to share a bed after that.

AND, once ES!Sam&Dean DO finally get together, LS!Sam&Dean would be SO smug about it. ES!Sam&Dean would come into the kitchen a little later than normal. ES!Sam's sitting a little awkwardly. ES!Dean has bite marks on his neck. They keep exchanging sly smiles. LS!Sam&Dean sit down at the table next to them and high five over the eggs. "Sooo?" LS!Sam starts, "late night?" LS!Dean winks at ES!Dean - "working on your night moves?" ES!Sam goes bright red and covers his face. ES!Dean rolls his eyes, but he can't stifle a small grin.

6. A foursome would be VERY hot.

Dumping this here real quick because my brain is running away with me again and I can't follow fast enough.

I read some posts about transfem having to play whack-a-mole here on tumblr in the role of the mole… and it reminded me of two things:

tumblr has, for all its differences, some of the same problems as other corporate-owned social media sites, namely the users having to roll with whatever gets thrown at them.

Years ago (back when porn bots felt like the bane of my existence, ugh) I already had this idea of a fediverse, open source version of tumblr, like Mastodon is to Xitter. (is that pronounced "quitter"? "shitter"? idk)

And honestly? While I'm not currently active on Mastodon I've hung out there enough to know that it's by no means perfect, but it's a really good space to build a home in. And if you don't like the server you're on, you can move without losing any connections! That's a hell of a lot better than only being able to do an export of your blog that contains no information on your mutuals at all.

The biggest issue with fediverse is that somebody has to run, and very importantly pay for, a lot of servers. I've been looking for a PeerTube instance that accepts new people and there are vanishingly few at the moment, which I can totally understand but it's a serious hindrance to large scale adoption as it would be needed for tumblr folks.

On the other hand – there's AO3. Proving that it could be done, if enough people wanted it. And gods, we could do so many cool things with open source, user accessible code!

We could put in so many Easter eggs! Like that million and a half reblogs post that I saw this morning that summons a weird ask into your inbox. Or boops for April Fools. Or a spooky skeleton hunt for Halloween. (Or, indeed, swap the two in one year 😂😂😂)

We could keep the tags as they are but consolidate the most common ones in filters. We could optionally do reblogs with text versions of tags. We could have a fucking excellent search function! We could communicate with other parts of the fediverse, strengthening the whole.

Naturally we'd build a really well thought out import function that lets everyone import their tumblr blogs, even if they've been shitposting three times a day for fifteen consecutive years (woooo the minds boggles at that raw amount of data – I hope tumblr can even export it???), and re-link the usernames whenever someone new imports their stuff, so the usernames on posts with many reblogs would be named "iamatumblruser-not-migrated-yet" until they do, and they're maybe "ichoseanewusername (iamatumblruser on tumblr)". Opt-in of course.

Oh! We could get companies to sponsor the whole thing, or single servers maybe, and let them run ads in exchange. BUT those ads would of course be opt-in as well! So the companies would really have to up their ad game. (Not sure this would work with any crowd except the weird tumblrinas, but I think this could produce some really interesting results. I for one would pay attention to those companies.)

We could do public requests for and votes on code features. We could have a whole server only for trans women who got banned on tumblr. We could let people tag their blogs as a whole to make finding friends easier. Hell, we could give the thing a solid algorithm and make those "based on your likes" posts etc. opt-in! So if you want them they bring you cool things, and if you only ever want to see the posts from exactly three blogs that you follow religiously, that is also totally easily achieved.

📚 [Books] Is this WIP part of a series or standalone?

All the fics I am currently writing are standalones. But I am planning to write sequels for the two fics that I have already posted. There's more about potential sunrise laughing sequels in the next question, and I want to write a sequel for Fucking ghosts but it would be Ryan Graves/Brandon Tanev and neither fic would need to be read to understand the other. Just Ryan "ghost fucker" Graves, and Brandon sees ghosts, so the fic needs to exist.

Playlists

Yes! I have playlists (I almost forgot I had them😂). One of them is for a specific fic and the others are character based. Actually looking back on them, I have one for a fic that I haven't written. I basically listened to a bunch of tv show songs (Hazbin Hotel and My Little Pony, two very different shows) and my brain was stuck on hockey players, so I made more and more playlists for players that I will probably not write for.

I also have one song that i haven't added to a playlist/made playlist for, but I heard for the first time "The Fine Print" by The Stupenium, and I was just making connections to the NHL and how hockey players basically sell their bodies to the NHL (and all the discussion of CTE recently).

Brainstorms & Lists

I have a doc with some fic ideas that I'm interested in writing, some that I will probably drop, some I might get to. Some are fleshed out with a couple paragraphs, and some are just a sentence. Some of these start out in my phone's notes app, like in the case that it's late at night and I need to get it down.

I have a doc specific for sequel ideas for sunrise laughing with them broken into four separate ideas/fics. Two of them I'm very solid on, and two fluffier, shorter ideas (i'm terrible at guessing length so don't trust that) that I don't have brainrot for but I am interested in writing.

I also have lists of prompts that I found interesting in different fic fests, which two of the fics I'm writing were inspired by prompts (the Pens Angst Fest fic and the Not a Cow Fest- which is actually based on a prompt from There's Only One You Fest).

I also use tags so I can save stuff that I can use for inspo. Some player names (but also that's just anything I find interesting). I have "fic idea" tag, and I have some tags for some specific fics, some started some not. Those are "nesting swaymark", "pearls fic", "mpreg fic", and "vore fic".

There's this chinese blogging site similar to tumblr called 'Lofter' where I find so much quality AK art, memes and writing (even x reader works too), this is the Arknights tag and this is the SilverAsh one if you'd like to check it out!! (hella JJK/Nanami content too but there are also many untagged spoilers 🤕)

Don’t worry about your support unit; everyone has to start somewhere! I remember I had a base level Meteorite as support for like half a year before I figured out how to switch it up. Now I switch support units every month, which likely irritates the shit out of anyone who added me for a specific unit 😂 Sometimes I change them up when CC comes around too, but I’m not crazy enough to max level all my 6* Operators for it to make much of a difference for those high risk clears folks wanna do.

Anyway, I also know the pain of not having enough Orundum/Primes for the shit I want, and often have made Bad Decisions™️ in order to get the Operators I absolutely must have. Playing for as long as I have means there’s less Operators I’m missing, but that also means the gacha gods see fit to deny me more often.

Here's a little snippet from the next part of my series "Killing Me Softly" ( it starts off from where we ended the flashback in Part One of the series)

" Tommy please, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, wait…wait!"

With the bloodied knife in his hand Tommy pushed you up against the closed door of your bedroom, the handle digging into your lower back as his other hand wrapped around your throat.

" Tut tut, now don't you start crying darling, your brought this upon yourself. Go on, look down, look at what you did!" he said grabbing your face, his bloodied fingers digging into your cheeks as he made you look at the large gash on his forearm.

"Tommy please..." You pleaded, an unstoppable flow of tears streaming down your face as you looked down at his bloodied arm.

" Dont worry love, I won't cut you, don't want to scar my pretty little wife's skin" he smiled darkly as he dropped the knife on the floor. " But I will punish you" he added, anger in his stare as he started unbuckling his belt, your eyes widening in fear as he smirked at your reaction.

Dance of Darkness Chapter 7: Ride or Die

“Business first,” Tommy ordered. Polly leapt from her seat, physically shoving Lucy out of the way in her haste to get at Tommy. Lucy caught herself against the wall with a yelp, head whirling to stare at her in shock.

“They took Michael.”

Tommy held up a hand. “I said business first. And don’t push Lucy, Polly.”

Polly continued to try to talk, but Tommy shouted over her. 

“Polly, business first!” he barked. She went silent, glowering. Lucy moved so that she was on the other side of Tommy from her, putting him between them, just in case. A movement that wasn’t lost on Tommy, if the way that his eyes tracked her were any indication. He turned back to his brother. “John?” he said, encouraging him to continue with his report. All of their whiskey had been taken, vans impounded and warehouses locked. They’d lost the Eden Club back to Sabini. Alfie had framed Arthur for Billy Kitchen’s death, so their truce with the Black Country boys was over.  

“I don’t give a fuck about whiskey,” Polly interupted. “I don’t give a fuck about Billy Kitchen. I want my son out of prison, now!” she slammed her hand on a desk.

“Thomas, I spoke to Johnny Dogs–” Esme began.

“This meeting should just be family!” Polly raged.

“I can help–” Esme tried.

“Let her talk!” Lucy said.

“It’s family only, she’s not blood, Tommy!” Polly practically screeched. 

“Let her speak,” Tommy ordered.

“Or is this a business–have you forgotten our family–” her eyes locked on Lucy, like she’d just realized that she was there, and her face turned bright red, all the hatred that she’d kept locked up towards her spilling out in one sudden, demented roar. “Get your soulless, disgusting, bitch of a slut out of here, now!”

Lucy recoiled like she’d been slapped, sinking into herself, her back hitting the wall behind her.

“Enough!” Tommy shouted. 

But Polly wasn’t done. “We all know that you just keep her around as a hole to shove your cock into–” 

“Enough!” Tommy roared, in a voice Lucy had never heard him use before. He sounded monstrous, terrifying in a way that wasn’t wholly human. Polly went silent, eyes widening, taking a step back, like she’d actually realized that she’d gone too far. Lucy stared at the floor, eyes blinking hard, feeling the rise of warmth in her cheeks from humiliation, unable to look at any of the other people in the room, though she could feel all of their eyes on her. “Enough, Polly,” his voice was lower, but the dangerous growl was still there.

Dance of Darkness Chapter 8: Happy or Sad

She’d picked out a bright red dress with a long skirt and intricate black beading, and had swapped out her usually simplistic and less flashy jewelry for a few of the more expensive, lavish pieces she owned. Most of which had been gifts that Tommy had gotten her throughout the years. Fussing over her hair one last time, she sighed, and began to climb down the stairs, careful in the heels she was wearing so that she didn’t fall. She heard the door open and close, as James finally left for the night.

When Tommy saw her, his eyes lit up, crossing the room to her in several quick, long strides, hands landing on her waist as he kissed her.

“You look beautiful.”

She blushed under the praise. “Thanks.”

He’d prepared the sitting room while she was upstairs, turning on a few of the lights and getting a fire started, the dim glow leaving the room feeling seductive and romantic. He had shed his coat, leaving him in only his waistcoat, slacks, and white button down shirt, making it easier for her to feel the muscles in his biceps flex as she ran a hand along his arm. 

“What if she doesn’t show up?” she asked, nerves spiking again. Tommy looked her up and down, clearly appreciative.

“I’m sure we can think of something to do.”

She laughed, leaning more solidly against his chest. He rubbed her back.
