Favourite colour: Blue.

No explanation, not particular reason why, it’s just always been blue. All shades from deep purple to almost white. But I have a special place in my heart for the word ‘turquoise’, which I feel is just so the most.

I’m listening to “Blood & Paper” by Kevin Hearne (whom I recently got to meet at a book signing event when he was visiting here and a friend asked me to spontaneously tag along - best decision in ages) Love the audiobook version read by Luke Daniels, he’s a whizz with the accents.

“Hide the drums (there’s fire in the sky)” latest installment of the Magical Marriage Ribbons-Verse, the Untamed Mega Saga, for which the author starandrea has been posting a chapter every day since May 31st 2020, so 805 consecutive days as of now without missing ONE. It boggles the mind. (I’ve started reading when the verse was ... oh I think about three parts in, I haven’t missed one too since then)

Last song: “The Greatest Show on Earth” - Nightwish, it’s my soundtrack for my daily yoga practice (no I am in fact not joking), so it doesn’t really count last leisure listening was the soundtrack of ‘Robin Hood - Das Musical’

Last series: Ooofff... ok, so many balls in the air at the same time. I’m watching “The Sandman” of course, as you do and loving it. Also “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” which is THE MOST(tm). Recently finished my rewatch and catch-up of “Manifest” and rewatched a couple of episodes of The Devil Judge with a friend who just started and that I got into it, remembering why I can’t be normal about those boys (and how delightful it is to rewatch with someone experiencing sth for the first time). Of course went down the magnificent and batshit crazy rabbithole that is Kinnporsche. Also, “Tomorrow” which is definitely my fav K-Drama of 2022.

Last movie: Day Shift - Fun and a nice remix of vampire tropes that you don’t really see on top of each other a lot. But it felt more like a set up to a movie trilogy I don’t know if it’s made enough impact into getting, so the premise might have been served better as a mini series? ...The Gray Man, which was solid and enjoyable and absolutely bonkers with how hilarious it was to watch Chris Evans have a ton of fun playing straight up, no holds barred, unredeemable villian. Ryan Gosling can stay... Ana de Armas is queen bee.

Currently working on: My last day of vacation :sob: and of course my WIP/plot bunnie enclosure excel spreadsheet (yes, I do not do things by half until I halfass writing them). Anyway, actual words or plotty thinky thoughts were put into:

- The Devil Judge a/b/o PWP (that has, so far, about 5k of set up and no porn) with a Jung Sunah made them do it scenario and non-traditional dynamics (yeah, idek...)

- Vincenzo Inception fusion - Jang Han Seo wakes up from getting shot to a curious set up of sleeping people around him (really really wanna write this one but the premise is so vast I’m afraid of flaming out again)

- three separate 9-1-1 Buddie fics of varying size and scope that reaches from one’s in love the other isn’t and confessions make things complicated (or do they), the fall out from the truck bombing goes the other way for Buck & the “Eddie deals with his 5B-issues by discovering shibari”!AU (do NOT try this at home-therapy)

- The Untamed - Blades of Glory!AU

Happy Holidays everybody!  I haven’t been commenting on posts individually like i normally like to so it’s kind of backed up a bit. I still really want to thank all the authors who have been sharing their stories with us and leave a lil itty bitty comment before I can expand on them for their own post so here’s that! Also I’ve seen a lot of undeserved negativity being spread to a lot of authors and I just want to thank you all for sharing your work on this platform FOR FREE and remind you that you literally owe us nothing and I’m super grateful that you continue to share with us. These are just some stories that I’ve read this week, i’d def like to do another of these soon :)

This story was amazing! First of all, I love the comedy surrounding the entire situation, Hobi with his 8 trees and instigator Yoongi who also wants them to get their shit together for Hobi’s sake. I love all au’s but sometimes exes to lovers is difficult for me to side with because I don’t see how people can bounce back from so much hurt but in this story it felt very natural how they were able to find their way back together and I really enjoyed the insight to their relationship, especially near the end.

Ya’ll. Yoongi fics just truly hit different. The plot of this was so adorable and him going out of his way like that to keep her engaged was so cute and just very Yoongi like. I also just really loved the descriptions in this, like how oc described making the drinks, it just made everything seem so real.

ASDFGHJKL! Like, I really have no words for the way this made me feel. Like, ik it’s not a super healthy dynamic but the thought of a fixated Yoongi is.. I loved reading Yoongi being so fixated with oc and doing everything i his capability to meet her. I also was v interested in the part where he bumped into her and she didn’t react the way he expected because it made me think about how he (or any character’s with his mindset) cope when the fantast and reality don’t match.

This story made me feel so many things. Like there’s so many layers to it and both of their hurt, her visiting him and feeling betrayed while he felt pushed aside. This story was so complex and both characters had so many layers to them, but it’s still sooo well written and I was invested the entire time. Like, I genuinely can’t get my feelings out in a brief way so I’m looking forward to screaming about this in it’s own post.

UM! Absolutely adored this story, of course it would be a fellow cream suit enthusiast who can bring so much justice to dreamy Joon. I loved how he was portrayed here and getting insight to both his and oc’s feelings made me root for them soooo hard.

The tag “dreamy husband joon” is extremelyyyy accurate. This story was just so cute and their relationship truly felt so intimate and lovely. Her being on the phone with Jimin while Joon was smash SENT me but it was also so hot like ASDFGHJKL that man can do no wrong tbh.

This entire series has had me so invested but this chapter!!! I’m always a sucker for Joon but the way he was so clearly in her feels (for OC) but wanting to respect her need for distance, what a man. And I was so happy to see oc working through her feeling towards Joon.

Damn, I really love when a misunderstanding is such a big catalyst for a bunch of drama/angst. It just really ups the tension for me because as the reader I know it was a misunderstanding but clearly the character’s don’t, so it just makes me really eager to see how they make amends. I really enjoyed seeing them slowly make amends and grow. Also the buildup to them deciding to give the relationship another go made the ending soooo satisfying.

Also, the imagery was so well described and the anticipation built made this story so enjoyable.

I AM SO EAGER FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER TO COME OUT. Like, idk how I can even describe this correctly but this just feel so much like Tae...???? Like idk if that makes sense but just Tae being this v sensual man, but there still being more to him than that, just makes so much sense and even the word “indulgence” is just so sensual and reminiscent of him. Also, the storyline so far is something I’ve personally never seen before and I’m super invested in this world and story already. Very eager to see how their relationship progresses.

It’s the way I read this last night, it took me exactly an hour (3am to 4 am cause I’m a CLOWN), and I was so invested that I kept putting off sleep to finish it. Man, i’m a simp for this Tae (just like he is for oc lmao). I really enjoyed reading it and the mention of Jisoo earlier in the story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering when things were gonna blow up. Everything was just so sweet and fluffy, and the confession really made me feel so soft for them both cause they both were so in their own heads and feelings they couldn’t see what was in front of them so I really enjoyed the confessions.

I genuinely don’t know how I can simp over this story in a short way but I’ll try my best. The characters are so complex and the storyline is twisted so many ways that make this so interesting to read and easy to become invested in. The way Jk is written, I understand why OC is lost on how to feel for him. Like, his actions are wrong, but actually meeting him and even seeing his though process, it’s hard to make him out to be the villian that his actions have categorized him as. I can’t wait to continue reading and write a full length comment about this!

I really enjoyed this, I love how aware of Jk and his boundaries the oc is and how she is cautious to walk the line and not push him too far while also letting him know how his actions make her feel. This just genuinely felt like a glimpse into a very real, very intimate relationship/moment and I loved that. I also just really love how this is written and I think you have a beautiful way with words.

Idk if I’ve ever said it before, but I just love how you write relationships. Like, I can feel how comfortable they are with each other and how natural being together is for them. With your stories generally it just never feels forced and I really love that. I also really liked that we got Jk’s pov in the beginning, getting to see how tense he was really made me eager for their interactions and for him to feel comfortable and calm with her. Their interactions just felt so cute and natural and the end, assdjfhi, jk really deserves to be cherished and I loved seeing oc get him to the point of relaxation.

Uhh, no. Remember what I said about writing earlier this week? Well, I've done a million things, but unfortunately writing hasn't been one of them.

September: Share a comment or review which still warms your heart?

Oh, Anon, I can't share only one. I've been rereading comments this past month and several come to mind right now. These all warm my heart no matter how old they are or how many times I've read them already.

You’re back!!!! I’ve missed you and this story more than I realized. Little Sev dealing with sick Harry and exhausted parents is so heartbreaking and sweet that I can’t handle it! Plus, I can totally relate to the exhausted parent bit XD. That whole family is just far too adorable. A certain bean who is far less evil than she proclaims to be, told me you were about to post again, so I’ll admit that I’ve been checking my updates like a crazy person.

Self-doubt is easily the worst part of writing. However, if I can offer you any encouragement, it’s that you have no reason to doubt yourself. Sometimes stories seem so big and daunting and we aren’t sure if what we are writing even makes sense or is relatable or true to character. Everyone goes through it and - as I’m sure many have already said - in your case, you’ve nothing to worry about. This story is beautiful and charming and captures the characters so very well. You’re doing a marvelous job of creating well rounded characters who all have faults and positive traits. You’re writing it in a way that none of the characters seems too good or too bad, just simply human. It’s utter perfection and you should be extremely proud of this work!!

What a beautiful ending to an unbelievably impressive series! Having read the original series on fanfic.net repeatedly habitually since their original completion, it’s brought me so much joy to have weekly reminders of how much I love this story; and now with a gorgeous new epilogue!!

I’ve said it before but the one thing that really gets me about your writing is the characterisation - it drives the stories in a way I feel is really missing from most pieces of published works and tv shows. The bonds you build between characters and the whole dynamic really comes through throughout each installment - making the character development extremely natural and impactful. I’ve waxed lyrical previously about your writing style but I reiterate that it’s utterly and irrevocably beautiful, especially when considering English is not your first language. The pacing, plot and actual progression of the pieces are so well thought-out and really prompts excellently-executed dialogue and exposes opportunities to get to the hearts of the characters. It is suffice to say I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed your work in every one of its forms.

On a side note, I feel massively honoured to be mentioned in author’s notes (I have to say I’m slightly star-struck) and I’m more than happy for any future English queries. Have a wonderful day x

I realize I never actually left a review on here but here it goes.

This is definitely one of my all time favourite fics to ever exist period. Not just within the OUAT fandom. I was ecstatic with the introduction of Zelena, as it opened potential for Regina to have someone blood related still alive for her to interact with. At the end of Season 3 when Zelena was given that second chance, I was excited to see a possible turn around for her character. Up until that point, everything she had done was to give herself a better life, one with her blood mother, in hopes that she may be loved. She was not unlike Regina's initial persona and I could see how they could connect over it.

Season 4 dashed those hopes, and the progressing seasons left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. In the end, I am glad at least that at the end of Season 6 they had become something like sisters, and for that I am glad. I am also happy to see Zelena returning to play some time in Season 7. I dont know what it is but Zelena is my favourite OUAT character, and I love Rebecca Mader who plays her. For that reason I always seek out Zelena fics in hopes of finding good ones as she is not one of the most popular characters, in terms of fic writing at least.

This fic was both amazingly written and brought to light my hope of them reconciling as sisters. I like that it was not an immediate turn around from "villian" to "good", but a gradual process that involved interactions with multiple people and learning from mistakes. It made her a very real and relatable person. Everyone has flaws and makes mistakes and going from a life where her only goal was to hurt Regina, to living with her and attempting to be "good" was a large turn around that no doubt shook her to her core. You displayed that in your series very well, showing the ups and downs in her journey as well as the reflective reactions from those around her.

Henry's role in this was very heartwarming and he really is a miracle. The Greatest Believer. I do not think that Zelena would have come as far as she had without him. Though Regina does her best, it is always nice to have someone else there, not to mention someone who looked at Zelena without any negative feelings. Having multiple people care and believe in her no doubt gave her greater motivation to change and be a better person. Not to downplay Regina's role in this of course. Regina very much has been the core to this family, to Zelena's change.

At the end, Zelena desired to be wanted, to be enough, and she was going to look for that in Cora. Regina knew though, that it wasn't Zelena's fault for that, Cora only wanted power. Which you had her explain. And I think that having Regina turn into that person that Zelena wanted to be enough for, to be loved by, was a big change even if she didn't realize it. The initial hostility, anger and sadness moved away from being targeted AT Regina, to more herself and referenced in terms of Regina instead.

At that point, I think that Zelena's family slowly began to form in her own subconscious which eventually or hopefully would expand onto friends like Robin and Tinkerbell and perhaps even the Charming family, they do get along well enough of course. And if Charming's reaction to her run in with Sidney was any indication, I'm sure they would welcome her with open arms at this point.

Overall I suppose I can summarize it into this.

Thank you for writing this story/series. It holds a very very special place in my heart and I come back every once in a while to read through it. It warms my heart every single time no matter how many times I've read it. I love it with every inch of my OUAT loving soul and I am so glad that such an extensive well-written piece on Zelena exists.

This is a wonderful rendition of Princess Bride and the end *chef’s kiss* gold.

She has so many great works, but with the complexity of balancing all these different characters and weave a story around them, this one is my favorite. Or maybe this one was just the one that just happen to snag my heart... :)

It really allows Kit to dive into the closeness, the need to someone else to hold. I would say this is a staple fic to read as a winteriron shipper. Of course tho please be weary of tags and your own needs/wants.

Game Night

I was inspired to write this after finishing Supernova yesterday. I had this random thought that Nova does a weekly game night with Simon, Hugh, and Max where they talk about Adrian and he has no idea that they do this. It does contain spoilers for Supernova, so don’t read it if you haven’t read Supernova. I REPEAT: THIS FIC CONTAINS SUPERNOVA SPOILERS. Anyway. 2124 words of fluff and family bonding. Maximum fluff nodrian at the end.

Nova didn’t bother knocking on the door of the old mayor’s mansion anymore.  SHe had no reason to now that she lived there. 

It’d been almost six months since the battle at the cathedral. Six months since Ace died. Six months since she’d told Hugh Everhart--Captain Chromium, one her boyfriend’s dads--that she, a villain, was in love with his son. Six months since he told her he didn’t believe there were villians anymore.

It’d also been about six months since game night began.

Game night started off simple enough. One night a few weeks after the supernova, Nova got a message from Max asking her to come over. This was nothing out of the ordinary now that he was actually able to interact with people without stealing their powers, so she went to the mansion without a second thought.

When she got there, however, she’d been surprised that Simon Westwood--her boyfriend’s and Max’s other dad--opened the door. “Nova, good to see you. Come on in. Max and Hugh are in the living room,” he said with a smile.

She found her lips mimicking his out of habit. “No Adrian?” She asked as she stepped into the threshold. The few times she’d been to the mansion Adrian was always with her, it was strange that he wasn’t there now. And as nice as Simon and Hugh had been to her since the battle, she knew she had a lot to do to earn their trust. 

Simon shook his head. “No he’s with Oscar planning some one month anniversary thing for Ruby, I think.”

“Right. He mentioned that a couple days ago.” She pulled her hat and heavy winter coat off, hanging them on the wooden pegs by the door. “I bet he’s going to jump out of a cake or something in the middle of HQ.”

He laughed. “I wouldn’t put it past him.” Together they walked down the hallway to the refurbished living room. 

Max smiled at her from where he sat on the floor. “Hi Nova! You ready for game night?”

Nova blinked a few times. “Game night?”

And that had been that. Every Wednesday night Nova, Max, Simon, and Hugh had game night without Adrian. It was a good way for them to get to know her better, for them to trust her. It didn’t hurt that she also got to hear a lot of ridiculous stories about Adrian as a child. A lot of very cute stories.

Tonight they were playing Uno, which was admittedly the most dangerous game they played so they didn’t do it often. Even though they were heroes, whenever a draw 4 card was set down threats were thrown around--very violent threats. Nova said she’d put someone to sleep and make them wake with the worst headache anyone could experience. Hugh would make a chromium knife and twirl it in is hand while biting his lip. Simon’s left eye would twitch and his fists would clench the table so hard his knuckles turned white. And Max? Max would curse the person out so much it would make any sailor blush. Uno was the only time that Simon and Hugh wouldn’t scold him for it.

Hugh shuffled the cards with his large hands, then started dealing them out. “Everyone remember the rules?”

“No putting anyone to sleep,” Nova said.

“No lying that I have to go to the bathroom then turning invisible to come look at your cards,” Simon added with a sigh. 

Hugh looked at his husband with his eyebrows raised. “Or?”

“Or anywhere else.”

The first couple times they played Uno that was a problem. There was no such thing as honor when it came to Uno, Simon had said after Nova felt his body near her and elbowed him in the ribs.

Hugh nodded. “Good. Max?”

Max was grinning at his cards. Nova couldn’t help thinking the kid had a terrible poker face. Well, he didn’t even have a poker face.

“What?” Max asked.

“What’s another rule?”

“Hey, I don’t have any rules that apply to me except the normal ones. You’re the ones that cheat, not me.”

Nova couldn’t help rolling her eyes at that. Just because the kid didn’t have powers anymore didn’t mean he was incapable of cheating, in fact he’d done it many times. True to his former hero name, the Bandit was excellent at stealing things, but also hiding them.

“Alright, fine,” Max said with a scowl. “No hiding cards.”

“Right. And what happens when someone breaks one of the rules?” Hugh asked. He set the remaining stack of cards in the middle of the coffee table and flipped the top one over as their starter card.

“They have to drink a glass of pickle juice,” Nova said. “Now let’s get on with it. I need to redeem myself after Clue last week. I still can’t believe I lost to you of all people.”

Hugh grinned as he took his turn. The winner of the week before always went first. “It was a very embarrassing defeat for you.”

They started off in a clockwise direction, and Max was next. The first few times around were uneventful, each wanting to hold onto the special cards until they got some numbers out of the way.

“So,” Simon said. “Who wants to share their most interesting Adrian story first?” He put a reverse card down, making Nova grumble.

She started to draw cards until she had one she could use, then set it on the pile. “He was pretty much his usual self around me. Didn’t do anything embarrassing.” Well, there was one thing that happened, but that was while they were making out and it was important for context that they were making out, so she wasn’t going to tell his dads and little brother about it.

“Liar,” Max said.

“Am not.”

“Are too.”

Hugh interrupted the back and forth bickering he knew was about to happen. “Max has a point. You always have an Adrian story for us.”

She could make something up that sounded Adrian like, but she’d promised herself and Adrian and his family that she wouldn’t lie to them anymore. “It’s hilarious, but if I tell you, you’re going to be grossed out,” she warned.

“Oh?” Simon seemed intrigued now. “Is it PG?”

Max set another card down. “I’m eleven, I think I can handle PG-13 after all the crazy things I’ve done.”

“That depends, on how PG-13 it is,” Hugh said as he eyed Nova. It was one of those looks that made her feel like she was undercover as a renegade again. It made her feel like she’d be sent to prison if they found out her secrets. Not that they would.

“It’s on the low end of PG-13,” Nova said.

Simon glared at his husband when Hugh set down a draw four. He drew the cards and seemed even more frustrated my what they were. “I want a divorce.”

Hugh grinned. “No you don’t. And go ahead and tell us Nova.”

She very pointedly didn’t make eye contact as she laid her card down. “Adrian wasn’t paying attention when he went to kiss me and accidentally stuck his tongue up my nose a little bit. It was weird. His cheeks were so bright it looked like he was wearing face paint.”

Simon snorted, Hugh covered his mouth with his hand to hold in his laughter, and Max made a disgusted face. 

“I told you it was gross.”

“I can’t believe he…” Simon started laughing so hard he had to set is cards down. 

Now that he was laughing, Nova looked them in the eyes with a small smile on her face. “Honestly, neither can I.”

“How would that even happen?” Hugh wheezed. “Please… please don’t tell me he kisses you with his tongue out all the time, because if he does we’re going to have to talk about that.”

“No, he definitely doesn’t,” Nova assured him. “I have no idea what he was trying to do that day and he knows better than to do… whatever that was again.”

Max gave her a look “Up your nose?”

“Only a little, but it was enough to be weird. I think he was going to lick the tip of my nose because I was annoying him.”

“And he misjudged the distance,” Simon mused now that he was calmed down a little bit. He picked his cards back up and took his turn, but he was still smiling at his ridiculous son. “We know his vision is terrible without his glasses, but he’s always been a bad shot with a gun too. Maybe his depth perception is off.”

Hugh set another card down. “But it hasn’t been much of a problem before. Drawing takes depth perception and he’s great at that.”

“It actually doesn’t take that much,” Nova said.

Simon and Hugh looked at her curiously.

She flushed slightly, still not exactly used to the two of them looking at her like she had more answers than them. “Well, think about it. Drawing happens on a two dimensional surface, he only needs to look at the piece of paper, or glass, or wall, or whatever he’s drawing on. But shooting, or aiming at anything really, requires you to be more spatially aware.”

There were a few beats of silence, as if Simon and Hugh were thinking over what Nova said, wondering if maybe their son needed to go to the optometrist again sooner than his yearly appointment.

Max set a skip card down. “It’s still gross that he stuck his tongue up your nose.”

“It really is,” Nova agreed. “What’s your Adrian story for the week?”

“He charmed an ice cream lady into giving me free ice cream,” Max said with a grin. “He forgot his wallet when we went yesterday and offered to take a picture with her in exchange.”

“Why wouldn’t you guys just come back and get it?” Hugh asked.

Just as Max opened his mouth, they could hear the front door open. Footsteps resounded down the hall toward them. “I’m home!” Adrian called to no one in particular.

“We’re in the living room!” Hugh called back as he tossed another card down.

Adrian stepped into the room and his brow furrowed the second he saw his dads, brother, and girlfriend sitting on the floor around the coffee table. “Uh… what’s going on in here?”

“Game night,” they chorused without looking away from their hands. 

“Oooookay that was creepy.” He walked across the room and sat on the couch behind Nova. Leaning over he pressed a kiss to her cheek.

She gently swatted him away. “Don’t look at my cards, you’d just go tell Max what I have.”

“What?” He laughed. “No I wouldn’t.”

“Yes you would,” Nova, Simon, and Hugh said together.

Adrian made a face. “You guys gotta stop doing that.”

“And you need to stop sticking your tongue up Nova’s nose,” Max said.

His cheeks heated, eyes darting back down to Nova. “You told them?”

She at least looked sympathetic when she turned toward him and rested her cheek on the side of his thigh. “Sorry. They pried it out of me. But in my defense, you didn’t give me any other good stories to tell them for this week.”

“What does that even mean?” he asked, more more confused than he’d been when he walked in. “Stories? You do--” Adrian paused mid sentence, eyes widening with realization. “You guys have been talking about me. That’s how you knew about the incident at the parade when I was thirteen.” He looked at his fathers. “You promised you’d never tell anyone about that.”

Simon grinned widely. “Actually we promised we’d never tell any of your friends about that, and we haven’t. Nova’s your girlfriend, therefore we haven’t broken any promises.”

“Friend is in the word!”

Nova reached her hand up to cup Adrian’s cheek, giving him a soft smile. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone your secret.”

He sighed and leaned into her, trusting her. “No more swapping stories about me.”

“Now that I can’t do. This is our destressing time.”

“You can destress with me.” 

She shook her head. “No can do. Your dads and Max need this too. You’re more than welcome to join us if you want to listen to stories about yourself though.”

“I’ll pass.”

“In that case…” Nova let her power surge through her, putting him into a peaceful nap. Adrian slumped back against the couch.  He’d wake up in an hour or two feeling refreshed. By then they’d be done with game night and she could spend some quality time with him.

She turned back to the table where it was still her turn. 

“Go drink the pickle juice,” Max said. “You cheated.”

“He wasn’t even playing!”

Katsuki bakugou is Japan's most loved camboy, taking a focus on makeup and testing its durability with help from his boyfriend prohero Deku, not that Grind Zero's fans would know that little detail.

i saw the fic rec you just did, and i liked pretty much all of them! im going to guess we have a similar taste in fics then, so going off that, do you have any superhero au fics to recommend? i've been craving some recently! -

(I love, love, love this one. Its one of those fics where it draws you in and then bitch slaps you with foreshadowing.) 

Love-Languages - Emile takes in his six nephews and does his best to love them the way they deserve. And they in turn decide not to tell him about their superpowers just yet.

Heart’s Heroes - Patton is the most powerful villain in the city, but that doesn’t mean he wants to see the teenage heroes that save it die. And if he starts to use his resources to watch out of them…well that’s his business isn’t it?

a.s.h.es, ashes (we all fall down) - Logan and his partner, Virgil, begin to quietly question the glossy agency they work for and stumble upon something big– Big enough for them to make an attempt on Logan’s life. Determined Ch. 2

Fifteen years ago Bakugou Katsuki left to become the hero he always wanted to be. Even if that meant leaving Kirishima Eijirou and their pup behind. Kirishima Katsumi grew up hating the hero Ground Zero for leaving and hurting his father. Now that Ground Zero has returned to his home city, Katsumi wants to hunt him down and avenge all the pain he caused his father, Eijirou.

Chapter 1

Katsumi was too excited to sleep, he felt invincible and unstoppable. He laid in bed under his sheets, posting about getting accepted to UA on social media. However, as he scrolled through app after app, he kept seeing posts about Ground Zero. 

“What a bitch.” he thought and frowned as he turned on his phone flash light. 

Katsumi was having such a good evening, but he had to be reminded of that asshole every three seconds. He hated seeing the constant stream of news that everyone seemed to be so enthralled about it. Katsumi couldn’t understand why people liked him so much and he didn’t care to learn either. Quietly, he hopped out of bed and opened his closet.

Eijirou sat on the couch, the television hummed in the background speaking highly of a man who had become a ghost to Red Riot. In one hand he held a glass of bright red wine and the other scrolled through news site after news site on his phone.

For the first time in fifteen years he allowed himself to investigate what had become of his ex. He took a sip of wine and wondered if Bakugou would recognize him if they just so happened to cross each other’s paths at like the market or someplace. Eijirou didn’t think he’d changed that much in fifteen years. Yes, he wore his hair a bit longer than before, and he had a few new scars but other than that nothing much had changed.

Eijirou discovered that in those fifteen years, Bakugou had gotten himself two girlfriends and one boyfriend. All of his relationships ended, of course, and that made Eijirou smile. Bakugou was also a high earning hero, he had plenty of money and could probably open a hero agency of his own if he wanted. However, there was one particular villian that caused significant damage to Ground Zero. 

It happened early in his career, and put him out of the game for seven months. It was during that time he met his first girlfriend, she was a nurse at the hospital he was at. After Bakugou healed up, all that remained was some irreversible damage to his right eye that left his vision a little wonky and some nerve damage in his left his hand.

That was the first and only devastating loss that Bakugou had suffered from. Of course he had a few losses here and there, but nothing that left permanent problems. In later interviews, Bakugou claimed it was from being new and inexperienced in the field. 

It made sense. 

There was so many fan sites dedicated to Ground Zero that it was almost sickening. Eijirou found himself rolling his eyes more than he’d ever had before. Not that he was jealous, but he knew Bakugou on a level these fans would never know him on and they lived in a world of innocence. Eijirou knew the type of person Bakugou could be, but maybe he changed. People do change, right?

After about two hours of catching up on fifteen years of drama and adventure, Eijirou decided to shut everything down. He went into the kitchen and began to rinse out his wine glass when he heard someone knocking at the door.

He cursed quietly to himself, he was fearful of who might be on the other side of that door. What if -- could it be? No, no he didn’t know where he lived unless he asked around but--

Holding his breath, Eijirou opened the door and was relieved to see Mina standing on the other side. 

“Katsuki isn’t here with you, is he?” he asked, as he stuck his head out of the door frame to look left then right.

Mina laughed at his paranoia, and said “No, but that is what I came here to talk to you about, oh, and Izuku is here too!”

“He is?”

“Right here!” Izuku jogged up to the door, he was holding a kitten in his arms, “I found this little guy down the stairs.”

“I told you to leave it!” Mina said.

“I know but he’s all by himself and he was crying.” Izuku pressed his lips gently against the top of the little orange kitten’s head, then looked up at Kirishima and asked, “Do you have any water we can give it?”

“Sure.” Eijirou opened his door wider and allowed his friends in, along with their new feline companion.

Izuku and Mina sat on the couch while Eijirou placed a little bowl of water on the floor by the kitchen. He took the kitten and set it down near the bowl, and the little baby soon began to lick up the liquid.

Eijirou patted the kitten softly, before walking over to Izuku and Mina, “So, have you guys seen him? Have you seen Katsuki?”

“Yeah,” Izuku was the first to answer, he tried to hide his excitement but failed to do so, his smile gave it away, “He ate breakfast with Shoto and I.”

Eijirou took a seat on top of the coffee table and stared at Izuku, “What did he say?” he whispered.

“About 80 percent of the conversation was about you.” Izuku admitted.

“Me, huh?” Eijirou tried to suppress a blush from forming across his face, “So, what -- what did you talk about?”

“Your face is so red right now!” Mina laughed and pointed at him playfully, “Ei, don’t tell me, do you still have feelings for him?”

“I -- I’m not sure.” 

Mina crossed her arms and glared, “Even after selfishly leaving you, you can’t say for sure if you have feelings for him or not?”

Eijirou looked down at the floor in between his feet, and said, “I, I hate to say this but I’ve always hoped that he’d come back and meet Katsumi.”

“Doesn’t Katsumi hate him?” Izuku questioned. 

“Yeah, but…” Eijirou scratched at the back of his neck.

“Well, he wants to see you again.” Izuku said with a smile, “He said he wants to apologize to you and he was just a dumb kid back then. I didn’t tell him anything about Katsumi, I figured that was something you should tell him.”

Katsumi had always been a little bit of a rebel but never pushed the limits to the point of no return. If there was one thing he hated it was making his father upset. He loved Eijirou and he respected him. He really wanted vengeance on Grand Zero, does that fucking bitch even know how much pain he put Eijirou in?

Katsumi remembered the first time he learned of who his alpha father was. It was back when he was in elementary school and he had just arrived home from school one winter. They still lived at his grandparent’s house, and were sitting at a kotatsu table. Eijirou was reading a fitness magazine while Katusmi was working on a homework assignment that required him to make a family tree. 

“Dad?” 

“Yes?”

“The other kids have two parents, am I special?” Katsumi asked, “My friend, Naasu says it takes two people to make another person, did you make me on your own?”

Katsumi will never forget that look of pain that crossed his father’s face that day.  

“Dad?”

“I didn’t make you on my own.” Eijirou admitted, he set the magazine aside, “You do have another parent.”

“Is he dead?”

Eijirou smiled, but it was forced, “No, he’s not.” he shook his head.

“Where is he?”

“He…”

“Don’t cry.” Katsumi grabbed some napkins sitting on the table and patted the tears off his father’s cheeks. “Was he mean?”

“He’s a great man, he just -- he made a choice and he didn’t pick us.” 

“Who is he?” 

“Ground Zero.” 

Ever since that day, Katsumi knew what he had to do. No one is allowed to ever make his father cry. Not even if that person was his other father, and a powerful hero. Katsumi would do whatever he has too. 

The hunt had begun.

It was unlikely that Ground Zero would be out around town this late at night but Katsumi was going to do his best to track down his whereabouts. So, what better place to begin than to go to the new hero agency?

Ignoring the business hour sign, Katsumi tried to pull open the door a few times but it was obviously locked. He then opened the mail chute to slip in a note addressed to Ground Zero. The note provided a place and time to where they were to meet and fight. 

But before he could drop the letter, Ground Zero stepped out of the building. 

Katsumi quickly shoved the note back into his pocket and glared at him. Bakugou returned the glare with the same red eyes. He was so intimidating that he could probably scare a normal kid shitless from just his eyes alone. But not Katsumi. Katsumi had something important he needed to do.

“You’re a fucking bitch and I’m going to kick your ass!” were the first words Katsumi ever spoke to Bakugou.

Why is Shigadeku a good ship? (You dared me to I cannot deny a dare.)

This contains a bit of vague spoilers for season three that are the spoilers that's like 'oh well no duh that happens' so you've been warned!

It's also written from the perspective of anime only, with maybe a few chapter mentions just because I needed them lmao.

Shigaraki and Deku are actually foils of each other, beleive it or not. That's kind of where it came from; ship the foils!

Deku was a quirkless child who was chosen by All Might to be given a power, and ultimately, at the end, he needs someone to carry on this battle with the villians.

Shigaraki was a mentally ill child who ran away from home at the age of four after accidentally murdering his entire family (and their corgi :( ) with his Quirk when it first manifested. He's taken in by All for One, groomed into being a villian, then thrown into a war he has to continue on when AfO is defeated.

Deku had an amazing childhood with his mother and possibly father earlier on than we see. The only really bad thing that happend to him was the bullying that comes with both being Katsuki's friend and having no Quirk. Yes, that's saddening, and will leave an impact, but he still had a loving childhood.

Shigaraki possibly had a relatively good life until his Quirk manifested. His scar looks new when we see it so he either picked at it (less likely, seeing as though a toddler would be terrified of their hands at that point), or something happened to him while alone on the streets. Once he was picked up by All for One, he probably had a life just as bad as Shoto did. But not physical abuse, emotional. We see in chapter 222 that All for One tells Shigaraki, who couldn't have been older than six at that point, killed his entire family with 'those hands of his.' Then, when Shigaraki is having a mental breakdown and practically clawing his jugular out of his neck despite his gloves, AfO's offered a chance to 'fix him,' whatever that means. He doesn't take it, and literally states that he is going to use Tomura's emotions against him. This.... Is not a childhood, if you couldn't tell. This is actually why Shigaraki acts so childish despite him being 20 years old — he didn't have a childhood and so child-like aspects never got their chance to be grown out of. Example; he probably is scared of the dark or sleeps with a stuffed animal/blanket.

Tldr for this section; both Deku and Shigaraki are thrown into a war they didn't start and cannot finish by the people who ultimately started it so that they can continue it until they have to pass it to someone else.

- Their Platonic Relationship -

Shigaraki was the main villian character from the start. That means he probably will not be getting a redemtion arc. :(

But I'm gonna tell you why I think he deserves one.

Shigaraki isn't really happy

He literally is only doing it to get rid of the things be doesn't like and where did that mentality of 'it's okay to do that' come from? Yeah.

Tomura canonically hurts himself, and instead of staying through to the end of an attack (Example, Stain) he runs away to plan an attack for another day.

Shigaraki isn't capable of doing it by himself — hell, he hates to be alone as it is, even when he's villianing. You often read things of him liking to be alone in his room playing games all day but when was the last time we saw Shigaraki alone? Yeah; he's always with someone. And if Encounter (the last episode of season two, I believe chapter 62) is anything to go off of, whenever he's forced to be alone, he makes it so he's not. For those who haven't seen this yet, I mean that he's carrying his father's hand in his hoodie pocket.

Yes, he cares about the members of the LoV, but I don't think this makes him 100% happy with how he's living his life.

Deku is someone who doesn't like the current hero society. He wants to break the chain, he sympathizes greatly with Shinso because he has a villianous Quirk, but be still strove (strived?) to become a hero. But, likely, Tomura doesn't see any way his Quirk could be used for good. Same thing with Toga, or Magne, or Dabi, or mostly anyone in (or out of, for that matter) the league.

I want Deku to recognize this about them. I want Deku to see that Shigaraki isn't happy. And despite all that he's done, I want Deku to reach out anyway because everyone deserves a good life. No matter their Quirk.

Deku may not be able to forgive and forget but I want him to try and save Shigaraki. I want him to try and save any of them! Because that's him! He's better than most heros because he knows that it's not just heros and villians; he knows that those villians have lives outside of villianing.

We know that too, seeing as how the league basically sits around n tells each other how much they love, care, and support each other when they're not villianing (hell, even when they are villianing at times.)

Deku could save him.

Deku could give him the life that he never had, that was ripped away from him.

- A Romantic Relationship-

It's just like all the romantic shippings; if they have a good platonic relationship in the series; ship em!

I've written a good amount of Shigadeku fics, one of them a redemption arc (which is real OOC n I hate it-). If you take the time to expiriment with the characters and try to find fragments of Shigaraki's real personality, what it would have been if nothing ever happened, and make a makeshift one out of that, then you have real good chemistry and a cute couple; Deku getting him the treatment and medications he needs for his illnesses, giving him better coping mechanisms, handing out much needed love all around.

gabriel  is  based  off  nbc  heroes  &  my  own  personal  headcanons.  at  the  point  of  writing  this  i  have  seen  the  first  &  second season,  i  am  making  my  way  through  the  rest  of  the  show  at  present.   don’t  worry  about  spoilers  though  as  i  pretty  much  know  most  of  the  major  plot  points  for  gabriel  during  the  series,  just  not  all  the  specifics.  ---  threads  will  generally  take  place  in  aus  &  content  i  have  seen  however,  until  i  have  caught  up.  though  idk  how  big  the  fandom  is  so  i  sense  a  lot  of  aus  my  way  any  ways  lol

i  have  no  plans  to  watch  it.  sylar  isn’t  even  in   the  show  so  its  really  just  not  required  of  me  to  view  it.  any  plot  lines  transpired  in  that  canon  will  never  be  seen  in  any way  on  my  blog.   sylar  reforms  himself  post  series  &  just  goes  on  from  there.  when  i  officially  make  it  through  the  whole  show  i  will  write  proper  headcanons  on  that.

at  the  point  i  am  in  the  show,  the  only  people  who  know  what  sylar  looks  like  are  the  people  that  have  seen  him,  furthermore  only  those  who  have  heard  the  name  know  he  is  even  a  thing.  so  its  safe  to  say  a  lot  of  normal   savillians  don’t  know  him.  HELL  a  lot  of  the  heroes  don’t  know  him  either.  ---  keep  this  in  mind  when  interacting.  if  your  character  has  special  abilities  to  know  who  he  is,  thats  different,  but  don’t  just  assume  you  know  who  he  is  or  what  he  does.  

FURTHERMORE  TO  GO  OFF  A  TANGENT  i  am  not  gonna  be  too  keen  to  see  a  bunch  of  starters  of  people  begging  for  their  lives.  gabriel  is  a  hell  of  a  lot  more  then  just  a  random  serial  killer.  he  is  a  complex  character  who  has  feelings  &  issues  of  his  own.  hes  not  going  to  kill  just  anyone  for  the  sake  of  it.  please  bare  this  in  mind.  i  will  likely  not  reply  to  those  kind  of  random  interactions.  ---  by  all  means  if  you  wanna  plot  something  like  that  i  am  game  for  it,  but  please  give  me  the  heads  up.  i  will  not  reduce  my  muse  to  a  stereotype  killer,  cause  hes  not  & thats  the  tea.  he  only  kills  when  it  benefits  him,  its  not  a  sport  for  the  hell  of  it.

oh no not another quickly brainstormed AU/theory that’s growing out of control

and for a new fandom: OK KO Let’s Be Heroes!

About Professor Venomous!

Okay, so I have a lot of (positive) thoughts about Prof Venomous’ first appearance in the episode “We’re Captured!”--

But the one relevant to this post is this stray thought I had about the episode.

I always wondered when Prof Venomous spots K.O. , if it’s just him realizing there’s something up and realizing a hero’s here...or if it’s also because he recognizes K.O. specifically. If there’s a connection between Prof Venomous and K.O. . And I wondered if that’s something the show subtly covers up for now with the idea that Prof Venomous in the episode plot is just finally figuring out what Lord Boxman has been trying to hide, rather than really exploring his full reaction in depth. 

(If I recall correctly, it’s also a shot of only K.O. that Venomous reacts to, not a group shot of all the heroes, K.O. , Enid and Rad together--so it could be that Venomous is at least partly reacting to K.O. -by-himself in particular.)

And given that K.O. ’s dad has been a mystery, K.O. and Prof Venomous at least have hair color more similar to each other’s than different (they both have dark hair), the trope “The Hero’s Mysterious Missing Father is the Bad Guy” is something the parody-themed show could play with--when I combined that with my thought that Prof Venomous’ reaction involved a specific recognition to K.O. himself that could imply a connection between the two, I wondered, “What if Prof Venomous is K.O. ’s missing father?”

(While still shipping Prof Venomous/Lord Boxman tbh. Prof Venomous is bi and things have been over between him and Carol for years, she’s a previous ex. Prof Venomous unattached and interested in Lord Boxman.)

I personally thought the idea was neat, and could make for a good fic--

AND THEN I SAW THE LABOR DAY PROMO FOR THE NEW KO EPISODE, AND NOW I’M EVEN MORE INCLINED TO THINK MY STRAY THOUGHT MIGHT HAVE MORE WEIGHT TO IT AS A THEORY.

The promo has:

-A voice that sounds a lot like Prof Venomous, I’m pretty sure it’s his character and voice actor.

-A lot of purple used, the color of Prof Venomous’ skin, and likely his signature/theme color.

-Silhouette figure that seems like it could resemble Prof Venomous’ own figure. (And the silhouette figure seems like it could be wearing a hood, meant to cover up features K.O. could recognize from a brief meeting, i.e. their brief interaction in “We’re Captured!”)

So that all makes me think the silhouette figure in the Labor Day promo is Prof Venomous.

And these lines from the voice that sounds a lot like Prof Venomous:

“I see something in you that no one else sees.”

Let me show you how to unleash it.”

Makes me think of my “Prof Venomous-is-K.O.’s-Missing-Mystery-Dad” theory. To me, those lines make me think of a familiarity--specifically, that Prof Venomous sees something in K.O. and he can show him how to unleash it, because Prof Venomous possesses something similar, and he knows K.O. has inherited it from him because they’re actually father and son.

It looks like K.O. ’s shadow self returns in the Labor Day promo, covered in purple too. I rewatched a clip of when K.O. first uses that shadow self from the “Face your Fears” episode, and even then it does have traces of people in its design, like a purple outline/glow around its shadow figure. It’s this dark shadow with purple that’s present before the Labor Day promo. That does suggest that it really is something already inside K.O. , and it is something Prof Venomous could show him how to unleash, rather than it’s all something Prof Venomous adds to K.O. , as I’ve seen others consider when theorizing it’s Prof Venomous in the Labor Day promo. I don’t think it’s that, I think it will mostly be that K.O. really does already have something, and Prof Venomous shows him how to unleash it. And I theorize that’s all because K.O. was born inheriting that something from his father Prof Venomous, who can show him how to unleash it because he’s more familiar with it, more experienced with what he ended up passing down to K.O. .

And this:

But I really do think those ideas can be combined: the silhouette figure is K.O.’s dad, who is Professor Venomous. Prof Venomous is K.O.’s father.

Also there’s this:

“The man is his dad and he is teaching ok about some dark powers he really has. The man had those powers and now showing him the dark power. Ok will someday have control of them when he is older.

The thing inside him is the same one in the fear episode

I think the man is his dad

Then that means his dad is professor venomous”

Pretty much.

I can see Carol hiding the fact that Prof Venomous from K.O. because she thinks he’s too young. She has used “it’s a grown up thing/it’s an adult thing” as a reason to not to tell K.O. everything before.

I can even see her more positive words about K.O.’s mystery dad as something like an Obi-Wan thing, rather than an outright lie--Carol thinking of a time when Prof Venomous could have been different and someone she cared for, but he changed, and stopped being the man she cared for. 

This may go into more headcanon territory:

I think it would also be interesting to have Prof Venomous be K.O.’s father, and really play with that idea--like, I keep being entertained by the idea of this being played out in a generally deconstructive parody series that’s even sweet--that is, the fantastical setting meeting more domestic/personal themes in a way. K.O. actually building a relationship with his villain dad Prof Venomous. Prof Venomous didn’t even know K.O. existed until Lord Boxman’s dinner, he just immediately recognized the resemblance to his ex that he hasn’t seen in years and that gap of time could be as long as how old this kid seems to be, and who has dark hair like his--and, well. Prof Venomous and his suspicions confirmed, and he’s curious to see what else K.O. inherited from him. Later after some conflict, some gray happens--K.O. would like to get to know Prof Venomous as his dad, and Prof Venomous actually reciprocates, in his way. Carol and Prof Venomous talk, start to sorta reconcile enough that Carol more willing to let K.O. get to know Prof Venomous. Prof Venomous figuring Carol would have every reason for never telling him about K.O. before, and this is true for her reasoning. Carol and Prof Venomous as exes dealing with each other again because they both know they have a kid now. Fink as sorta K.O.’s adopted half sibling.

Definitely headcanon:

There really are a lot of wonderfully strange names in the show, but I also think about the joke where K.O. had to think and remember that his mom’s name is Carol, and that Carol did have a separate hero name, Silver Spark before. So thinking Prof Venomous is a separate villain name, and he does have another name, like Carol does. Headcanon that Kent Oliver is Professor Venomous’ other name, and Carol actually named K.O. after him, her son’s full name being  Kent Oliver when not written and said only as the initials K.O. Carol in her mind separates between Prof Venomous and Kent Oliver/K.O. Sr.; she cared more about Kent Oliver/K.O. Sr., she was thinking of him specifically when praising K.O.’s mystery dad before.

Pre-Prof Venomous/Kent Oliver/K.O. Sr.: Actually both similar to and different from Prof Venomous. Generally a nicer and more chill version of Prof Venomous before. A combination of “grown up stuff” and just generally drifting apart and changing priorities/beliefs resulted in his separation from Carol, taking on the name Prof Venomous and his villain career.

Part of what happened with Prof Venomous is why Carol seems to have pretty much stepped away from hero-and-villain industry and isn’t directly or officially involved anymore, and is more devoted to raising K.O. to be kind and thoughtful.

Carol and Prof Venomous have known each other since they were kids, and their relationship then had similarities to K.O. and Dendy’s relationship today.

K.O. very much takes after Carol the most. He only has dark hair and some abilities from Prof Venomous.

K.O.’s hair may spike at the tips a little more like Prof Venomous’ hair.

Prof Venomous’ enthusiasm for villainy and fighting heroes may be similar to K.O.’s enthusiasm for heroics and fighting villains. Prof Venomous still in villain-hero biz while Carol’s retired; and K.O. is just starting in the biz. Prof Venomous and K.O. could have more to talk about what’s currently going on in the villain-hero biz.

Carol and Prof Venomous are forever exes and are never getting back together. Prof Venomous is bi and is interested in Lord Boxman now.

Prof Venomous may have a type--drawn to a passionate fighting spirit that Boxman and Carol have.

Mr. Gar and Prof Venomous were never romantic rivals for Carol’s affections. Prof Venomous was aware of and neutral over Gar’s infatuation with Carol. Gar always a true gentleman and never tried to cause waves in the relationship between Carol and Prof Venomous. Now as Carol’s ex, Prof Venomous takes some pleasure in teasing Gar about his crush on Carol.

K.O. really wants to get along with Fink too. Fink is more grumpy over this revelation about her Boss’ personal and family life.

This is all a theory I enjoy, and canon may make it a completely fun AU come Labor Day. I’ll see soon enough.

Rose’s Captain Swan Fanfiction Treasure Trove

This mainly for my lovely friend Adira (who I JUST converted to OUAT) but might well post it for anyone who hasn’t read any of these fics. I would be surprised if they hadn’t because the majority of these have high popularity and would be what I consider classics. I love them all enough that I’ve downloaded them on my Evernote app and will reread them while I’m flying or on public transit. Rose’s Review: THIS FIC! MY GOD THIS FIC! I am in love with it and the author Laura (like full one girl crush on lovely lady. She’s just too cool and if I wasn’t engaged and she wasn’t married, I would like propose because this girl is my fanfic soulmate to the point my best friend is jealous even tho I have legit never met this woman, but that’s besides the point. I’m gonna stop embarrassing myself now. I need to shut up.) Anyway, sports centric isn’t normally a thing I go for because I’m a former athlete and the second I catch a mistake it’s an immediate turnoff, but Laura knows her shit. (Like really knows her shit. I can’t tell you how many times I cackled over her references to Melo being a selfish asshole and I love Emma and David’s rendition of the Giants/Pats rivalry! Also her reference to Derek Jeter’s walk up! OMG I promise I will stop right now but I’m so in love) However, you don’t need to love sports to love this fic, it’s just if you do it’s an added bonus. I love the development of Killian and Emma’s relationship even though the angst in this just kills me in the most delightful way. The Henry side story is honestly the best thing over and even though he’s not Emma’s son in this, the relationship between Emma, Henry and Killian really pulls at your heartstrings. I think one of the reasons I really love this fic though is how Laura handles Killian’s injury and how it affected his baseball career. It was incredibly realistic and I would know because an injury ruined my basketball career a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, so the scene where Killian is in the batting cage and hitting for the first time in a long time really hit home with me because I’ve been there. Anyway, why are you still reading this review, GO READ IT NOW! And also go read her outtake collection: Just a Bit Outside.

Rose’s Review: ­To say I love smut is an understatement and I’ve been reading it long enough that I no longer have any shame in regards to it. This fic is, without a doubt, a masterclass at what we call Porn with Feelings (IT FUCKING DESTROYS ME). It’s not just smut, but emotional and creative smut which is my absolute favorite. (Dude, I legit fanned myself at Chapter 2 because it was just so smutty and hot. I almost want to beg Elle to write “that one time on the Jolly” scene because my inner perv just needs it because dom!Killian is just as much my jam as baseball!Killian is but she’s got more important things to work on. Harbor in the Tempest? GO READ IT NOW!) Also I never felt so melancholic about smut until reading the later chapters of this fic because the layers of desperation, hurt and brokenness is just so poignant that it just grips your heart. Elle in general though is just amazing at smut and everything else really (just read all of her shit. Do it. And if you’re already read her shit, read it again because she’s amazing) but this is my favorite of her work, though her Wish!Realm AU is a really, really, really close second. (Legit would have made this list if I wasn’t such a lazy bastard. I was going to rec 15 but got lazy and chopped off at 10 because I’m horrible but yeah go read Make a Wish, especially if you were not happy with Wish!Hook because I sure as hell wasn’t.)

Author’s Description: What if Hook was able to go with Emma and Henry when they left to escape Pan’s curse? With no memory of each other or Storybrooke, Emma and Killian meet in New York as complete strangers, both with broken pasts, and both with clean slates for their future.

Rose’s Review: I feel think this fic is on every fic rec list and if it isn’t, then it should be because it’s just so well done. It’s just –whale noises- so fluffy but angsty at the same time that it really murders you in the delightful. I personally loved all the references to the monumental moments in the canon being mirrored or echoed unknowingly by Killian and Emma during their time in New York, it’s just a really cool tid bit. Honestly what I love the most about this is the Captain Cobra bonding, even more than the Captain Swan moments. The fact that Killian bonds so much with Henry to the point where they still hung out while Emma and Killian were “on a break” (I refuse to think of it as a break up and wanted to make a Friends reference because I’m lame) just murdered my soul in the best way possible. I love Henry (he’s my little munchkin so I get super annoyed when fics essentially ignore his existence. I have legit stopped reading fics before because they ignored Henry) and he is without a doubt the center of the Swan-Jones family unit in this fic. I really loved the addition of Mac as a supportive character from Killian’s past and almost wish he was featured more in the story. Also I must say this is one of the very few fics that I’ve come across where Neal isn’t a complete and utter douche canoe. This is definitely one of those fics that is like a must-read for the Captain Swanners regardless of what you think of kid!fic.

Beyond the Horizon by alexandralyman

Rose’s Review: Beyond the Horizon is the first Captain Swan fic I ever read and it really set the bar high. This is fic is unfinished and I am eagerly, eagerly waiting for it to reach conclusion. I don’t normally recommend fics that aren’t finished, but this is just so, so, so good that I can’t let my hang ups get in the way of recommending it for others to enjoy. I love the development of Killian and Emma in this story, and between Emma and the Jolly crew as she falls into the role as the mistress of the ship. (I legit just want to cuddle Fergus, he’s just so cute.) Anyway, I am really curious and eager to see where she takes the fic because it was my first and without a doubt one of my favorites. I have a massive need for Pirate!Captain Swan (and a massive lady boner for actual Pirate!Killian) and this is what started it.) Just –grabby hands- I want it finished so bad, but regardless this is worth a read because it’s wonderfully written and it will suck you right in. If you’re left begging for more like I was at the end of this, I encourage you to check out her outtakes collection: Interlude at Sea.

A One Time Thing (and Other Untruths) by weezly14

Author’s Description: "She supposes the reason she tells him is the same reason she kept his phone number after all those weeks." Pregnancy has a way of throwing a wrench in one's plans.

Rose’s Review: Oh man, oh man, where do I start with this one because this is just a pile of angst, fluff and slow burn goodness. I totally get Emma’s headspace in this because if I ever found myself in her situation, I would probably make the same decisions she did in regards to Killian, but KILLIAN, oh man, his thoughts and feelings about becoming a dad slayed me. He just wants to be there and be with Emma so bad. This fic also has probably want I would consider to be the best characterization of Neal. I’m not a Neal fan in any sense of the word, but I’m not a fan over the top villianization (is that even a word? I’m pretty sure it isn’t but if Shakespeare and GWB can make up words, so can I!) of him. This depiction of Neal is perfect in my eyes because it’s very obvious that all of his dickishness based upon genuine fear that Killian is gonna replace him and that Emma is going to take Henry away from him, which in all honestly, as someone who worked in the Family Court system, this is a realistic and very common fear when there is a power imbalance between parents. (Not that I think that the power imbalance isn’t justified because it totally is.) If Neal lived longer in the series, I definitely think the relationship between Emma, Neal and Killian would have been exactly like this. So if you’re looking for realistic parent dynamics and Daddy!Killian feels, this is the fic for you (and even if it isn’t, read it because you won’t regret it.)

Rose’s Review: I’m going to admit it now, I was rather dubious about this fic because of the description. I love me some baby!fic/pregnancy fic and I headcanon it all the time, but kids and time travel always stuck me funny (even in Charmed which was my fucking jam before anything else in life was) but I glanced at the kudos and the amount of comments, and thought to myself “well, if this many people like it, then there has got to be something good going on here!” And holy shit, I loved Ian. (I now officially headcanon that Emma and Killian’s eldest son is named Killian David Jones. It just needs to happen because it’s fucking perfect and there’s just too many Liams.) Ian is just a little snarky bae and I really loved the relationship between Henry and Ian. (Operation: Octopus for the win) They’re my perfect little babies. Also the amount of sass Ian sends towards Killian reminds me a lot of my own relationship with my father. (I’m such a shit to him but we’re super close and I’m legit terrified of pissing him off even though I’m fucking 23 years old. Ian also emulates that.)This fic played on a lot of my headcanons (like Captain Swan definitely banging in a field of flowers and totally escaping to bang in the Jolly) and I found Emma’s fears about Dark!Baby and her decisions around that to be completely in character. Killian is just a fucking saint (he’s not, but he definitely has the patience of one) and his understanding of Emma’s headspace in this (and in the show) is one of my favorites. All and all, this story is so massively fluffy that it makes up for all the angst that I read normally. Domestic!Captain Swan is slowly becoming my jam.

Rose’s Review: Oh…my…god…this fic. This fic is just -whale noises- fucking everything. I love it. The snark, the romance and Tink! This is my favorite characterization of Tink! Also this characterization of Emma hit so close to home with me because I legit make up nicknames for everyone in my life even people I never approach (legit everyone in my phone is under a different name. I legit call my mother Madam President Furher because she’s a hard ass and my younger brother is Moose because he’s just a giant but that’s besides the point) so the fact that Emma did that just cracked me up. This is definitely the fic where I bonded the most or felt the most connection to Emma. I love reading for this Emma’s headspace. It’s legit a joy to read. Killian is amazing as usual. I love his letters to Emma, especially the ones where he got more authentic. Walsh, though, gave me flashbacks to my own failed relationships and break ups. I literally had a break up similar to the one that Emma has with Walsh so bravo though for douche bag realism with Walsh. Both of Killian’s and Emma’s backstories are heartbreaking in this and the level of intimacy without actual intimacy (until later on of course) is just astounding. Phira is amazing writer in general and I really recommend you read all of her works, but if you had to choose one, this is the one to read. It just hits you all over the place with feels, humor and realism. Once again, why are you still reading this review, go read the damn fic!

Author’s Description: Set after 3x20 "Kansas". After saving the town one more time, Emma decided to return to New York, leaving her past behind. Three years later, she realizes that might be not have been the best decision.

Rose’s Review: I’m not sure if lenfaz reads Janet Evanovich or the Stephanie Plum novels, but legit this story was giving me some Stephanie Plum realness with Detective!Killian and BailBonds!Emma. Except this is better than Stephanie Plum because Emma is just far more bad ass and mature (though relationship-wise is very Stephanie like.) Killian as a detective was complete roguish Joe Morelli realness in the best way. I really loved the addition of Killian being adopted into an Italian family and their protectiveness of him. Laura and her family made me crack up with all the references to him getting a haircuit. (Please don’t, Killian, I love you with longer hair.) It warmed my heart in the best way. I also loved the relationship between Killian and his partner. Killian almost never has anyone in his corner (which is a HUGE point of contention for me in the show because despite Emma’s loner-ness, EVERYONE is in her corner and Killian has like zero support and nothing made that more evident that 6x15, which slayed me in the worst way possible because I fucking love Killian.) Mac, Killian’s partner, is one of my favorite OCs of all time and I loved that he calls him “sunshine.” (Dude, I need the story behind that one so if you haven’t written it, please do. I will even slip you a twenty.)

Rose’s Review: Surprise, surprise, kid/baby!fic on my reccomendation list. Yes, I realize that only a niche amount of fans like this type of fic, but honestly this is one of the best done baby fics I have seen. I think the best thing about it is that Emma’s focus the entire time is completely on her children and not on romance, which is realistic and should be expected. Her focus is not 100% on Killian, which tends to be done and honestly those type of fics turn me off. She comes off very realistic to me and that’s what I love the most about this. What’s also really cool about this fic is the engagement with the original source material - Peter Pan and the allusions made between what’s happening in the fic and the mechanics of the original play (clever girl!) Also, the way they deal with Zelena in this fic is honestly how I felt they should have dealt with the character on the show. Not that I hate Zelena (well maybe I do..kinda…sorta…the jury is still out on that one) but I always found their approach to the situation to be strange.

Rose’s Review: Not only is this beautifully written and engaging, but I seriously want there to be like a television series based off this one. Seriously, I loved it and the pacing of it would be perfect for season one of a really epic fantasy show (which I would totally watch the shit out of it and that scrape the internet for fic or maybe even finally get off my lazy ass and write fanficfor the first time since high school.) The pacing on this thing is on point. I am completely envious because I am such a slow build up writer that I couldn’t pull off something like this in only twenty-four chapters. I loved Killian and Emma’s partnership in this and how everyone just knew they were a perfect pair…except them. What I also love about this fic is that the author really seems to understand the tone of Once Upon a Time really well and stays very true to it. Not that this is a dig on other authors who go lighter or darker, but it’s a fic that seems very in tune with it’s source material which is a very rare find. I really loved the ending of this fic but at the same time I would be super excited if the author decided to write a sequel.

3. Name three favorite writers.

Ahh, this is a toughie! I’m going to list three writers from different fandoms that I admire a lot.

A. Anappleofdiscord from fanfiction.net I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have a tumblr and even tho it’s been forever since I spoken with her personally, she is an awesome person and an awesome writer. She writes for the Hetalia fandom, focusing on gen stuff centering around England and America. If you know anything about the Hetalia fandom, it’s ridiculously rare to find platonic fics about these two and her fics are like the cream of the crop. Her characterizations are on point, her fics are educational and hilarious (and also a rollarcoaster of emotions) plus she pulls off OCs superbly. If you ever check out her fics, tell her that Listenerofshadows sent you ;)

B. Glimare from fanfiction.net I don’t know her personally, but I love her work in the DC fandom. Sadly, she’s since mostly moved on to other fandoms (which is great for her, if the feeling’s not there, don’t push yourself to write fanfic for certain fandoms) but she has a TON of content and it’s all so good. Her most-well known work is a collection of one-shots known as “Daddy, Not Bats”. It’s an AU where Bruce encounters the bat-kids at a younger age and decides to retire to raise them all. It’s sweet, fluffy and angsty all rolled into one.

C. @elfpen from AO3, Fanfiction.net and Tumblr.  I stumbled across her fanfic Reprise when looking for a good star wars time-travel fanfic to satisfy my needs and boy, DOES SHE DELIVER. Most time-travel fics center around the OT era or Obiwan and/or Anakin traveling to TPM, but hers focus on OT!Obiwan traveling back to the era BEFORE TPM. It’s a great fic, I love the characterizations and her OCs are on-point. Not to mention, she also has a lot of other awesome SW and HTTYD content.

4. Name three authors that were influential to your work and why.

A. Anappleofdiscord, again. Because she has actually beta’d my work before and given me great writing advice. I haven’t finished Neverlast, nor barely touched on it, but I’m thankful for her influence she’s played on it.

B. It’s hard to pinpoint my inspiration for my writing, because it’s kinda an intuitive thing? Like, I’ll be writing and a phrase comes up and I’m like “I know I stole that phrase from some fanfic lol” but i don’t know which one??? But basically all the fanfic writers I love are legions above me and I admire them all. But I have to say, I’ve started writing more third-person present tense because of a few good fanfics (but I can’t pinpoint which ones) which it’s a rare tense for a novel to pursue but I love the rhythm of it.

6. How did writing change you?

I’ve been writing before I could even write. Basically as a little four-year-old, I’d make pictures and then dictate to my older sister/mom what the pictures were about, essentially creating a storybook out of it. Since writing has been part of my life for so long, it’s so innate to me like breathing air. I know there’s a lot I could improve on writing, but it’s just a freeing way for me to express myself in a clear and concise manner. In real life, I can be awkward in how I word things and I have a tendency to trip over words or don’t fully pronounce my th-s and s-es. Fanfiction is great because I can explore my favorite concepts of a fanfic in a medium that people can enjoy reading in :)

7. Early influences of your writing

Once I discovered reading was fun (I didn’t learn to read until 2nd grade but that’s okay, because once I did I was reading several grades above my level) I devoured books. Some of my favorite books as a child are: PJO, Chronicles of Narnia, Boxcar Children and Black Beauty. I also did some RPG’ing at a young age, which greatly improved my writing as the constant writing at a rapid pace forced my writing to improve exponentially. There were roleplayers that I admired greatly that I imitated because I wanted my writing to be as good as theirs.

10. how do you do your researches?

Google, man, Google. For example let’s say my fanfic is a historical AU. I know a lot about history, but I might look up a historical site to proofcheck my dates or phrases of the time. Fanfic is nice, because it gives you an excuse to rewatch your favorite show if you wanna make sure you nail the characterizations. I might just look at a fan wiki if it’s a minor detail like what’s Ahsoka’s smaller lightsaber called. 

13. Hardest character to write

Oohhh boy! I think everyone can agree that Yoda and Darth Vader are the two toughest SW characters to write for. It’s hard to get into the head of a 900 yr old troll and Vader is just…really hard? Palpatine is also hard not to make him the typical cookie-cutter villian (Which he is, but I’d like to try to give him some depth). I feel like I write a different take of Anakin every time I write a different AU involving him, but I think that’s because the AUs are at different points of his life and also the AU effects his reaction to things.

14. Easiest character to write.

I know it’s contradictory, but Anakin. He’s definitely chaotic good and it’s fun to write that archtype. I haven’t written much Obiwan (actually I have, but I can’t post it until I write the chapters bridging to him :/) but he’s more lawful good compared to Anakin and throwing those two into the same fic is fun to see. Padme is a fun one to write as well as Ahsoka.

17. Favorite AU to write

I have so many AUs so again, hard choice. Gotta say Impetus, since it’s the most I have written for and I love it. It deals more with the traumatizing effects that slavery/the Jedi have inflicted on Anakin plus an even more problematic Palpatine. I didn’t mean to recreate Palpatine in that fashion he’s basically a pedophile in this AU, the characters kinda just made it happen and I ran with it. It was supposed to be a humorous/fluffy what-if but like everything I touch, it’s also angsty ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

19. Favorite fandom to write for

My favorite fandom to write for naturally changes with my interests. I was obsessed with YJ for a while, then Hetalia and now SW. Star Wars is fun to write for because there’s a big audience and it’s pretty easy to find a pocket audience who love the same types of things that you do. YJ will always be my first love. I’m currently writing a fanfic for a YJ fandom event, but I’ve been kinda struggling? I’ve lost my enthusiasm writing-wise even tho I still love it to bits.

20. Favorite Character to Write.

Anakin, probably. It’s funny because I used to never like the PT, but the Clone Wars changed all that. It’s a shame that Lucas went the direction he did for Anakin in PT because TCW uncovered a problematic but likeable hero and I wish we could’ve seen that live-action (It’s not Hayden’s fault btw, the director is the one responsible for what portrayal the actor gives)

27. Best review you ever got.

Okay, so. I used to share an account on FF.Net with a friend and I wrote of a lot of YJ fanfics. One of them was a gen one-shot involving Bart and Jaime that received a good amount of attention. AND A REALLY GOOD FANFIC AUTHOR THAT I ADMIRED AND LOOKED UP TO REVIEWED MY FIC AND I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN OVER IT. I never in a million years imagined that my favorite authors potentially read my fanfics, let alone review/favorite it.

39. Do you want to be published some day?

Kinda. As a kid I’ve always wanted to get published but now I’m not so sure. I’ve never finished any fics other than one-shots and that really has gotten to me. My current goal is to finish at least one of my fanfics but I think I’ve been putting it off because I’m afraid it’s impossible to acccomplish. It’s silly, I know. I just need to do it.

40. Which one of your stories do would you most like to see as a movie/series?

Hmmm….probably my one-shot involving those two bounty hunter OCs. I could just see them trying to survive the universe with the least amount of weird space stuff happening but they seem to get pulled into it anyway. Those two are actually the easiest OCs for me to write, btw.

42. Do you plan or do you write whatever comes to mind?

I’m a weird creature. In life, I like to know things ahead of time. I like things to run exactly the way I planned. I don’t like unexpected variables. but in writing…I rarely outline. I usually write whatever is on my mind. Pure inspiration is awesome…until it runs out and feels like you’re pulling teeth to just to write a single sentence. That’s when I attempt to outline things.

Hismaster can freely touch every part of him he wishes. He can say words to him—hecan do anything he like to him.

Hecan say things like, “You know I love you, boy?” and the slave obedientlyanswers, “Yes, master.”

He’sso very young, but he knows that his master’s words and touch are not love.Only his mother’s is. He doesn’t know how to describe it. But he can feel thewarmth behind them, like hovering over a fire on a cold desert night. They arelike a thick blanket made of bantha furs, soft and comforting. They melt awayhis tears and fill his lungs with laughter.

Everyday, his mother tells him “I love you Ani.” and Ani, the slave boy, freelyreplies, “I love you too, Mom!”

Hefollows by her example, smothering her with hugs and tells her silly stories tohear her laughter that rings like the bells at the market stands. Because heknows love is the best medicine to heal anyone. It makes them feel fuzzy insideand they don’t feel so sad knowing someone cares about them.

Hismom gets sad a lot, so he does his best to repel the sadness away. He doesn’tget angry when she’s sad, because she isn’t angry when he’s sad.

“It’sokay to be sad,” She tells him one night as she runs her hands through hishair, “Everyone gets sad, just like how everyone gets angry or happy.”

“Mastersdon’t like it when we’re angry though.” Anakin pouted.

Shepauses; looking down at her son with a sad smile, “No matter what they say,you’re allowed to feel angry, Ani. Bundle it up, and keep it to yourself—andrelease it when they aren’t looking.”

“Areyou ever angry, mom?” He yawned as he snuggled closer.

“Yes.”His mother breathed deeply, and he could feel a bit of her anger—for aninstant.

It ishot—not warm like Love’s fire. No, it burns and consumes him for a moment. Itreminds him of all the bruises and welts that his masters have given him. Angeris selfish and doesn’t love. He doesn’t like seeing the giver of his Love feelthis way. He internally sighs in relief when her anger melts away as he told atale about a funny customer that came in that day.

Hehas never truly felt anger. He flinches from its’ touch and refuses to feel theemotion that his masters are fond of.

50. Your favourite character from any of your fandoms (pick one or several characters you like) is writing a fanfic STARRING YOU AS A CHARACTER. Regarding this fact, what kind of fanfic do you think he/she/they are writing about and how would you feel about you literally being in it?)

I feel like everyone relates when I say I don’t think my life is interesting. I’d pick Cassie from YJ because I feel like she’d be the type to write fanfic. I will say one ironic moment in my life is that I starred in a play as a shy bookworm girl who got the lead role in her school play alongside her crush, the star basketball player, incidentally they ended up together in the end. Everyone irl teased me about this but the truth is….I actually had a crush on the actor himself. We’ve known each other for years and are good friends. And the closest I ever gotten to “kissing” him was a moment in the play where our characters almost kissed before being interrupted by other students. But of course nothing real came of the play and we still remain good friends.  I always note in my head that the hollywood version is that we…would’ve hooked up in the end. I’m sure if I was a fictional character and Cassie shipped me with him and we didn’t get together in the end, she’d be writing a fix-it fic where our pairing is the true pairing in the end. If i wasn’t fictional, I’d feel really weirded out by it. I don’t like fic involving real people in it, especially if it involves ships. I’m almost 90% sure this guy doesn’t have a crush on me and just regards as friends. Which is okay, because I’m not sure if I even want a relationship at the moment.
