Break Up
They'd been doing homework for the past 2 hours. Hoping to finish the weeks worth of High school work by tonight’s patrol. They couldn’t wait to graduate this year and not have to worry about this stuff anymore.....until college.
“Okay so for number 8 in our Calculus class you chose B right? Cause that’s what I got.” Dick said taping his pencil
He was laid out on her bed while she sat at her desk
“Umm yeah” she said shrugging
Dick watched her for a moment. She could feel his eyes on her but chose to ignore them
“Are you okay? You’ve been like really quiet.” Dick mentioned
She nodded “Yeah I'm...I’m fine.”
He slid off her bed and made his way toward her “No you're not. Something is up.”
She inhaled a breath. She was not going to be a typical girl and start crying
“I- Marcus broke up with me.” She sputtered
Dick knelt down “What?”
She nodded “Yeah, during 5th period. Between classes actually. I mean. I guess I can’t blame him “ she shrugged
Dick continued to watch his best friend in disbelief of what she just said, what kind of guy would break up with Barbara. She was perfect. “What do you mean?”
“You know Macy Rogers?” She asked
He nodded
Barbara let out a breathy laugh and looked up. Once again feeling tears welling in her eyes “Of course you do. What guy at school doesn’t? Blonde, cute, tiny, petite, big busted. Every guys dream.”
Dick rose an eyebrow “Where is this going Barbara.” he shifted on his feet
Barbara let out a breath “I was walking to 5th period and I- I caught him with her pressed against the lockers. Kissing.”
Dick whirled the chair around so she was facing her “Are you telling me, Marcus was cheating on you?”
Barbara shrugged “Yeah, I made my presence known and he said “I’m sorry you had to find out this way but I’ve been see seeing Macy for two weeks now I was planning to break up with you this weekend.”
She watched as Dick’s eyes narrowed a dark look taking over his face that honestly scared her. She’d only seen it a handful of times on him
“I’m going to kill that bastered” he growled
Barbara wiped her eyes “I mean like I said I can’t blame him. She’s every guys dream. “
Dick shook his head, he reached over tucking a stray hair behind her ear. Seeming to relax as soon as he touched her “Don’t sell yourself short Babs you are a dream too.”
Barbara rolled her eyes “Right. I’m not super girly, I’m 5’7’ so I’m in between what is considered average and what is thought to be tall for a female. I’m buff so some cloths make me appear heavy even though it’s actually muscle. I’m a brainiac and I don’t necessarily excel in the looks department.” She listed
Dick leaned closer “You are a dream Barbara Gordon. I love that you aren’t girly it makes you stand out from other girls, your height is amazing....”
“Even if I’m taller than you in heals.” She noted. Now being playful
Dick smirked “You should know me well enough to know I think the idea of a man having to be taller is stupid.”
Barbara smiled
Dick continued “You’re buff and muscular because of our night jobs which you are amazing at. I love that I have someone to relate to in that area of my life and I am so beyond greatful that it is you.”
She smiled and his hands rested on her knees
“As far as your beauty....no offense to Macy but you- Barbara Gordon -You are the most beautiful woman I know.” He whispered
Barbara opened her mouth to speak but he cut her off
“Don’t go arguing” he spoke “You have gorgeous red hair, fiery green eyes, a smile that is simply adorable and freckles that prove you have been kissed by a thousand angels.”
His words sent shivers down her spin. He was her best friend.
They were 17
Sure they’d kissed before but
Did he like her more than that?
Did she?
Her mind was racing when she felt his lips press hers gently, her reaction was immediately to kiss back, she felt a ping of disappointment when he pulled back after only a second.
“Don’t ever let me hear you talk about yourself that way again okay?” He said standing
Barbara nodded
“Marcus didn’t deserve a queen like you.” He wagged a finger
Barbara smiled “Thanks Dick.”
He nodded “Of course”
She watched him for a moment before speaking “Hey Dick.”
“Yeah?” He spoke without turning around
She sighed “I don’t feel like doing homework.” She admitted
Dick nodded “I figured. What do you want to do?” He asked as he began putting his belongings back into his backpack
She big her lip “Can we just lay in my bed and cuddle while I occasion shed a few tears?”
This time Dick paused “Ummm if that’s what will help you...”
Barbara stood and nodded “It really would.”
Dick looked over smirking as he watched her walk toward him “Then that’s what we will do.”

Scooter
http://the-lady-razorsharp.tumblr.com/post/182849054277/makes-me-think-of-scott-and-em-gumnut-logic
Okay, this is entirely @the-lady-razorsharp ‘s fault. I should be writing the end of Gentle Rain, but no, I’m writing Tales of Gentle Rain instead ::headdesk::
This has no plot and is little more than a scene that goes nowhere. It is set somewhere after the not finished Gentle Rain fic. It is entirely based on the above post, Lady R tagged me in. And there is only Scott and Em in this, so no Virg ::misses him terribly:: This is pure Gentle Rain.
Oh, and apologies for my brief disappearance over the last day or so, Nutty wasn’t well for a bit and was reduced to just watching TAG rather than writing it...and on my birthday no less ::pouts:: But I’m better now and writing again, even if it isn’t what I’m supposed to be writing ::glares at Lady R::
At the end of this week I am finally on three weeks holiday...so hanging out for it. Work is heavy duty at the moment and I'm drowning.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this fic. Don’t expect too much, then you might enjoy it :D
Nutty (found the edge again, flexing my wings)

The evening breeze tangled in her hair as he led her down to the shore, his hand ever warm in hers. She could almost close her eyes and let him lead her, let the breeze touch her skin, let her control go...but no. Her mind would not allow it.
The hoverscoot beneath her was a poor substitute for the sand between her toes memory gave her. She found herself watching his bare feet as he slipped off his sandals and couldn’t help the rush of envy. But she shunted it aside. No need to dwell on something she would never experience again.
Halfway to the water, he stopped, and with a smile drew her close.
Her fingers on the ‘scoot’s controls flickered her closer and his arms wrapped around her. A soft kiss and he was smiling.
“Kayo tells me you haven’t been swimming for a long time.”
She blinked. “Wha-?”
“No, don’t blame her. I asked, she was concerned.”
“About what?”
“Island. Ocean. Safety.”
Em rolled her eyes. “You have got to be kidding me.”
“Hey, it is a justifiable concern.”
She eyed him, suspicious, and his smile widened. “Okay, fly-boy, what are you up to?”
His eyes sparkled in the sunset. “Do you trust me?”
“Do I have a choice?” The sparkle dimmed just a second, and she was forced to capitulate, reaching up to touch his cheek. “Of course, I do.” And she drew him down for another kiss. “I’m sorry, my sense of humour can scorch.”
He didn’t seem to mind, his lips reaching for hers again, his tongue thoroughly exploring her mouth. She gasped when he finally let her go. “God, Scott.”
Of course, his grin at that was confidence in the extreme, those damn dimples displaying in their full glory. His arms were around her and she revelled in his closeness, his scent, the thin t-shirt hiding his muscular body. God, he was gorgeous.
“Em, do you trust me?” His expression was more serious.
“Yes, yes, I do.”
“Do you trust me to carry you? Into the water?”
She couldn’t help but glance at the lagoon. She was vulnerable in the water. She had strength in her arms, but no movement in her stumps to balance. Swimming was possible, but she had never been confident, even when she was fully mobile. “Why?”
“Why not?”
Still she hesitated.
He touched her cheek, his finger trailing to her chin. “Trust me?”
Man up, Em. “Okay.”
She backed towards the rocky ledge at the edge of the beach and lowered the ‘scoot to settle it securely, before disengaging it and shedding the palm sensors. Reaching down, she undid the harness, and lifted the cotton dress she was wearing above her head, discarding it on the rock beside her. This left her exposed. Her sports bra and specially made protective closed-end shorts covering her stumps. She found it difficult to look at him.
“Em?” His finger touched her chin again and she found herself caught in his gaze. He didn’t say anything, just kissed her softly.
Before she could chicken out, she reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck and he crouched, lifting her. For a split second she was far above water, falling, but she shook herself mentally. His arms were strong around her.
And besides, this wasn’t the first time he had held her.
He kissed the side of her neck as he straightened, shifting her weight. “Comfortable?”
Em nodded into his neck, her voice caught in her throat.
“Em?”
“I’m good.”
“Are you sure? You tell me immediately if you want anything.” He snorted. “That nickname of Scooter is coming true.”
“What?”
“Oh, four brothers with very little imagination in the naming department. ‘Scott’, ‘Scooter’, long term nickname.” He walked across the sand and she found the sway of his body strangely calming.
“So, can you hover?”
“In a category five hurricane.”
Despite herself, she grinned. “You’ll do.”
His feet reached the water and he strode in confidently. The surf was little at this point in the lagoon, the bay thoroughly protected by the island across the caldera.
“Do you swim?” It was likely a stupid question, but she wanted to keep the conversation going. A distraction.
The water was now above his knees, the sway of his body compensating for the drag. “Yes, but not as well as Gordon.”
“Gordon? Of course, aquanaut.”
“And Olympic gold medalist.”
“Really? Bloody hell, you are a talented bunch.”
He snorted again. “And yet, none of us are doctors.”
The water touched her body, but she couldn’t feel it. Her grip tightened anyway.
He stopped walking, the water was only up to his waist. “You okay?”
“I’m fine.”
“I won’t let go.”
“I know.” As if any of this was rational.
“How about we stick to your depth.”
“What up to your knees?”
He arched an eyebrow.
Okay, that was a bit petulant of her. “Alright, though I have to say that around you and your brothers, I am continually finding myself out of my depth.”
He blinked. “Really?”
“Damn superheroes.”
He laughed. “You know better than that.” And he was folding himself, lowering her gently into the cool water. She shivered as it crossed her belly. His voice deepened. “Besides, you help keep me from drowning.”
And suddenly they were both up to their shoulders in the gently lapping waves. The weightlessness wrapped around her body and lifted her, but still there was the warmth of muscle through his t-shirt, holding her close as he knelt in the sand.
The salt on the air teased her.
She was nose to nose with him. She didn’t hesitate, tipping her head to the side and taking his lips with hers. He was all heat and salt and, oh god, so strong. He held her even closer, a mumble swallowed by her kiss.
God, how was this possible. It was like a bloody fairytale. The great bold hero, saving her life, rescuing her from peril, except first she saved his and helped save his brother’s, and now...thought was difficult with his tongue exploring her mouth yet again.
His fingers were tangling in her half-wet hair.
Self-doubt attempted to climb the remains of her spine, but she fought it. She deserved this. He was gorgeous, and she half the woman she used to be, but she was worth it. Her mind scrabbled at the concept, desperate to convince herself and squash the doubts.
They broke off for air and his head leant back just enough for her to catch his eyes. His pupils were wide in the dimming light, the orange of the sunset casting his skin in gold.
He simply smiled at her.
And her heart melted. Bloody hell, he was stunning.
He must have read it in her expression, because the smile became a grin.
Her face heated up in embarrassment and she buried her head against his shoulder, his soft laughter in her ear. She became acutely aware of his hand on the small of her back, her bare skin touching his. His other hand was running fingers through her hair. Her diaphragm up hard against his body.
The sunset sparkled off the ripples in the water.
Doubts threatened to drown her.
“Em?” His voice was soft.
She held him tighter with the only strength she had.
A seabird, somewhere far above them, let out a long and lonely call.
She straightened in his grip, forcing herself beyond those doubts and facing him as an equal. One hand steadied her grip, while the other reached up to touch his face. “Thank you, Scooter.”
His eyes sparkled at her, his grin widening as her fingers slipped into his hair.
“Anytime.” He leant down and kissed her again. His voice little more than breath. “Anytime.”

Nini! Since we seem to have the same tastes in tv shows, i was wondering what are your favorite books???
uoHHHHHH BOIIIIII where do i even start?!?!?!?! take a seat my friend because this is gonna be a LONG ride…
the classics i’ve loved since forever:
the famous five series by enid blyton - i read them ALL and reread them dozens of times
the little prince by antoine de saint-exupéry. nothing else to say,
literary any play by federico garcía lorca, but ‘la casa de bernarda alba’ still makes me !!!!!! it’s so good jfc
ella enchanted by gail carson levine like i’m sorry i know the movie has anne hathaway and hugh dancy but still i feel robbed of the wonderful perfect book i’ve reread 937562937456923 bazillion times. i deserve a proper ella enchanted movie/show, yall.
the last cato by matilde asensi. i legit made all my friends AND their moms read it when we were 17.
the perks of being a wallflower by stephen chobsky. it pretty much changed my life.
atonement by ian mcewan. wow. just wow.
gone girl, by gillian flynn because we all need to read amy dunne’s cool girl speech
it’s difficult to even type never let me go by kazuo ishiguro without shedding tears.
the perfume by patrick suskind traumatized me but also enchanted me?? idek man, it’s a very special book.
i read the entire the physician series by noah gordon when i was a teenager and i still love it sooooo much!!!!!!
peter pan by j.m. barrie bcs lbr everybody should learn that peter was a fucking asshole
the harry potter series by jk rowling. that abomination of a fanfic slash play that came out last summer obviously isn’t included here.
the percy jackson and the heroes of the olympus series by rick riordan - my savage demigod son, i’ll always heart u
don’t judge me but the mortal instruments, the dark artifices, the infernal devices - all of the motherfucking shadowhunter books to ever be, i’ll read, no matter how much i hate cc. i hate her for the hold she has over me.
i did enjoy the hunger games back in the day lbr
stardust by neil gaiman ksjbdfakdfjalsdfjbaglsjdfblkas literary my most favorite i love it so much it hurts me
and now as of things i’ve read in the past years that i can rec w a hand over my heart staring into your eyes and claiming they’re Good Shit:
across the universe series by beth revis was pretty fun for sci-fi even tho there was a twist that i wasn’t very happy with
under the never sky by veronica rossi was actually very cool i really enjoyed it
i REALLY loved the shatter me series by tahereh mafi like oh my god a heroine that truly learns how to accept and love herself!!!!!! fuckbois get rekt!!!!! incredible character arcs!!!! i’m pumped for the next book tahereh announced lbr
the lynburn legacy series by sarah rees brennan was suuuuper fun because magic?? family drama??? actual woc main character?? bisexuals??? i was living while reading them tbh
vicious by v.e. schwab was really fun because it was nothing like i’d ever read before, i’m really looking forward to reading her other series
i’ll only rec leigh bardugo’s six of crows duology because i refuse to acknowledge the fucking mess that was the grisha trilogy, jfc. six of crows, excluding some stuff, is super fun, has great characters, good ships, and teenagers that pull cool stunts to get $$$. incredible.
the fixer series by jennifer lynn barnes are !!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish she wrote more of them i would legit beg her and throw money in her face for more. teens swept off by washington/politics drama/conspiracies… my jam ladies and gents
the study series by maria snyder. are. so. good.
i’ve only read two of melina marchetta’s books and both of them broke me. i’m onto her.
big little lies by liane moriarty - if you haven’t watched the show, do it. if you haven’t read the book, do it.
i loooooved the first two books in the falconer series by elizabeth may and still have to read the third but i haven’t seen good reviews about it so i’m kind of… waiting a bit…
i’m not gonna talk much about sarah j maas here because even if there are things in her books that i really enjoy -specially some ships and the worldbuilding- the inherently whiteness, straightness and the unbelievably high number of times she writes the words ‘male’ and ‘female’ makes me want to punch her repeteadly in the face.
simon vs the homo sapiens agenda by becky albertalli is so funny and heartwarming dkzfjbzdjfkblz
uprooted by naomi novik had lowkey w/w but also an incredible het ship that was dkjfbksdjfs also living evil woods and strange shit that was amazing
what we saw by aaron hartzler is very rough to read, especially considering it’s based on a real life case (Steubenville High School rape case) but holy shit do i think it’s important to read and know.
in that same line i put one of my favorite books i read last year: the female of the species, by mindy mcginnis. that book broke me on so many levels, every time i think about it i burst into tears. it’s so raw and real and just… ugh. i swear it’s gonna stay with me until my last day, it’s /that/ kind of book.
i still haven’t forgiven my best friend for making me read the mistborn series by brandon sanderson. that’s al i’m gonna say about it.
cruel beauty by rosamund hodge is so unique and i just loooooove the characters so much because they do acknowledge their flaws and that they’re not perfect?? and just??? recognize that in each other??? which is a+++ in my book u do u. also super beautiful writing!
the anna and the french kiss series by stephenie perkins will always have a special place in my heart bcs they’re so fun and light-hearted and witty and i really love them
AND NOW, TOP FIVE:
the daughter of smoke and bone series by laini taylor IS INCREDIBLE. WHY IS EVERYBODY SLEEPING ON THIS BOOKS. ANGELS AND MONSTERS. ANGELS ARE ACTUALLY BAD, MONSTERS ARE GOOD. ANGST. IT’S SO GOOD.
the raven cycle by maggie stiefvater, even if i still have hashtag problems w things in it (more girls. why aren’t there more girls. NOAH.) i just… i love my stupid kids so much.
the wrath and the dawn by renee ahdieh is fucking INCREDIBLE it’s so good i get so mad bcs it’s legit unknown pls do urselves a favor and read this masterpiece it’s based on a 1001 nights and the main ship and characters are!!!! just!!!!! a++++!
the song of achilles by madeline miller is probably one of the books that i have most enjoyed and suffered with in my entire life. the true illyad i deserved. the most heartbreaking thing ever.
the winner’s trilogy by marie rutkoski is literary the best series i’ve read these past years and i’ll forever be in cee’s debt for making me read them. the most savage slytherins in love with the angstiest motherfucking relationship ever, a super clever look into colonialism and discrimination, the most beautifully haunting writing, IT’S JUST SO FUCKING GOOD I’LL NEVER READ ANYTHING AS GOOD AS TWT WHY AREN’T THERE 398465923846 FICS ABOUT IT JFC *sobs*
