Responding like this bc I realized your response had a lot of spoilers, haha.

I understand what you mean, but there’s a bit more to the situation than just what you’re talking about.

The fact of the matter is that the characters I like DO get bashed. Constantly. Often for very little reason aside from personal taste, and in very rude ways. (Back during DR3 someone tried to compliment one character I like by calling another I like a “stupid, worthless whore”, and like two weeks ago some dude on our YT videos went on some rant about how evil Yumeno is for not liking Ouma after he’s bullied her the entire game.) Hell, listen to the way people talk about my favorite games in the series.

I don’t engage with people over it because I’m capable of accepting that they don’t like what I like and they are allowed to express that on their own blog or whatever.

This is how I have mutuals who ship my NoTPs or adore my most hated characters or hate the ships/characters I love--I just ignore whatever content I don’t want to see.

The issue with a lot of the people you see me respond to (like zeke, for example) is that they are people who habitually try to argue with me over stuff like this, or are beating a dead horse I have already made my point on a million times (every Naegi stan).

This is how the situation looks to me:

me in Chapter 2: I don’t like this character. me in Chapter 6: I still don’t like this character and I’m now additionally angry because prolonged exposure to this character I don’t like plus the narrative and the fandom fawning over them has just pushed me past my patience limit. Annoying fuck. Fandom: How very dare you!

Liveblog posts are knee-jerk reactions to what happens in the game as I play it. If that’s not your thing, cool, but I do tag all of them and put most under a read more, so you’re not going to accidentally see one cross your dash–you have to go looking for it.

And I respond pretty gently to people who contact me in earnest (usually in private). People have asked me to tag for opinions or character hate before, and I’ve done that without a problem. If people find it too much and need to unfollow, I don’t mind. You’re allowed to to control what content you see.

I dunno, it just seems like this only ever happens with fandom darlings. I could sit here and call Hagakure or Saionji a piece of shit all day and no one would care. But insult the shy boy protag or pretty boy secondary antagonist and then everyone wants to jump down your throat.

I guess I just find it very entitled that people (especially people who like a character who’s generally mega-popular) think they have a right to control how I feel about them. Why is it my job to stay completely neutral in a personal liveblog that you can elect to stop reading at any point?

Translations, sure–my opinions will be very clearly marked there, if they’re present at all. But I find the idea of having to conform and censor myself so as to not upset anyone counterproductive to doing a liveblog (and also creepy and restrictive in a general sense).

The basic problem is that people often over-identify with characters to the point where they take any criticism of them personally. Was I calling every Saihara fan a piece of shit? No, I was not. I was expressing frustration that the flimsy pretense on which the game justified a protag switch I hate was just debunked, meaning I got stuck following a character I dislike for many, many hours.

Do you honestly think if they had done the reverse there wouldn’t be huge swathes of people hating on Akamatsu? There are people who hate on her quite a bit now as it is.

I used to be way more polite about my opinions, but it didn’t seem to matter–people still wanted to argue regardless. When people approach me in a non-combative way, like you did, then I’m not going to rip you apart. If you want to ride in thinking you’re going to ronpa my subjective opinions like life is a video game, then there’s a chance I’ll respond.

I’m a person, and running this blog is not my job. I use it to share opinions and stuff I’ve made and translations. Just because you like one thing I do doesn’t mean you have to like or even consume all of it.

All I can think of is when I was in eighth grade I used to bike to school w a friend and when I was pedalling up this rly steep hill my gears fucked up and gave out and my foot slipped off the pedal because I was pushing so hard and the pedal ground up the back of my foot and ankle and leg and I got a huge scrape on the front of it as well form the road and I still have a big lumpy scar on the back of my ankle from it lol 82) Favorite day of the week?Idk or care tbh !!
