Anon: omg can you do one ab asking if cal wants to start a family
“Babe! Hurry we are going to be late!”
You were standing at the front door, looking inside of your bag in case you have forgotten anything.
“Y/N, you do know I went to the bathroom five minutes before you were done getting ready, right?” Your husband, Calum, said as he walked up to you.
You had to admit, you married the hottest guy on the planet. How can someone make a pair of jeans with a simple white shirt look so good?!
“But I still beat you at the door, didn’t I?” You asked with a grin that Calum easily reciprocated.
“That you did” He smiled, placing one hand at your side, kissing your template, and whispering in your ear “But that doesn’t mean you can beat me at the car” And with that, he started sprinting towards the driver’s seat.
It amazes you how after almost 7 years of relationship you never got over the honeymoon phase. You have met Calum when both of you were young, reckless, and stupid; and not looking for a relationship. But it only took one look at those brown eyes and you were hooked.
You still remember how he came to you with a lame excuse to talk to you at one of the many parties you used to crash with your best friends.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” He said, and you almost thought he discovered you and was going to call security “I’m pretty sure god will wonder where all of their angels went”
He quickly apologized once he realized the words that fell out of his mouth, but you just stood there giggling at this cute attempt of flirting. And, as they say, the rest was history.
The next couple of years came and went and it almost seemed like you were in some kind of an alternate reality where everything played out as it was supposed to. Yes, of course, there were rocky times, especially when distance came to play, but all those times just made your relationship stronger.
Neither of you knew why, but being together just felt right. Which ultimately came to him proposing one eventful night in August after visiting his parents in Australia. And that then leads to your wedding just a few months later, you still recall that as one of the happiest moments of your life.
That was 3 years ago, and you were proud to say that you got to marry your best friend. Every day felt like a never-ending slumber party with new adventures and dreams to fulfill. And you wouldn’t change it for the world.
You were thinking about it as of now, looking at Calum with a smile as he drove to your cousin’s place to celebrate the birthday of the newest addition to the family: your baby niece.
Going to these kinds of parties became pretty regular for you, given that you came from a really big family and all your cousins were almost the same age as you, so they started popping babies out like it was nothing! And you were so thankful Calum was always happy to come along “I love your family, Angel!” He said “And you have to give it to them, they know how to throw a party”
It was true. If there is something your family doesn’t take lightly is parties. You still get a headache every time you remember the stress of convincing them to do something lowkey for your wedding. And as you parked outside your cousin’s house you wonder how you actually did it.
“Wow,” Said Calum as he looked at all the balloons decorating the front door “They really went all out on this one” He laughed.
“Sabrina is one year old!” You laughed, unbuckling your seatbelt as Calum opened the door for you “She won’t even remember this!”
“Yeah.. but at least Aunt Bridget will get to brag about having real mariachis playing at the party”
“Real maria-?” You asked, but Calum was already trying to hold his laughter as he pointed to a mariachi band getting out of their van “Okay, that is new… We are not even from Mexico!”
“No… but mom went to the wedding of Mr. Gómez’s son and she insisted we hired the same band for little Sab’s birthday” Your cousin answered as she opened the door.
You and Calum hugged your cousin before making your way inside the house. You stood in awe as you walked up the backyard and everything was decorated in different shades of pink and purple. Even the family dog had some sort of ribbon around his collar.
“This looks…” You began
“Like if a vagina exploded?” Calum finished for you. You slapped him in the arm playfully, trying so hard not to laugh along with him and be serious.
Your cousin came back a few moments later to hand each of you a drink and inviting you outside to join the party.
*
The mariachis were actually really good, especially when they made Calum have a dance-off with one of your uncles to the chicken dance song. And the rest of the party was also really fun for kids and adults alike.
Now the sun was starting to set and most of your family members decided it was time to call it a day after so many games and dancing. You and Calum, however, decided to stay a little longer since most of your cousins unofficially agreed to have a ‘family-friendly after-party’
You were sitting next to your cousin as you held her baby in your lap, making her dance along with the music.
“You are good at this,” Your cousin said, looking at you and baby Sabrina.
You laughed “It’s not too hard of a job to entertain a baby” And to prove your point, you started making faces at your niece, who started laughing right away.
“It’s not that! You, my dear, have the touch”
“The touch?” She nodded.
“You have that motherly essence, it’s easy for you to engage with the children - they all love you by the way, which is a fact I’m extremely jealous of - And you just have that capacity of love only a parent can understand. C’mon, don’t tell me you and Calum haven’t thought about having a family?”
You drifted your eyes to find Calum amongst the crowd of adults and children.
He was playing soccer with your older nieces and nephews, laughing as he threw himself to the ground on exaggerated acting as the kids scored goal after goal, laughing at your husband’s antics.
And just like that, it was like an image of your future passing by You and Calum sitting in the backyard with Duke running around with your child, playing all sorts of games with you, swimming in the pool, and eating ice cream. Reading bedtime stories as Calum sang them to sleep, him teaching them how to play different instruments and sports, always encouraging them to follow their dreams and passions… Yes, you could get used to that.
“I- I haven’t thought about it” You finally said with a light blush on your cheeks. You didn’t know if it was because of the question, your daydream, or the way Calum was looking and smiling at you.
*
You couldn’t stop thinking about what your cousin said even when you were already in the car and on your way home with Calum humming along with the songs on the radio.
Once you reached your home you started looking around, thinking of all the places you could share with your potential future family; cooking dinner together at night or watching frozen one thousand times on movie night or creating a playroom just for them so they could have their own space to create whatever comes into their minds and-
“You are really quiet, Angel,” Your husband said, interrupting your train of thought “Is everything alright?”
You pressed your lips together in a tight smile and nodded as he came to hug you from behind, resting his head on your shoulder “Did you have fun with the kids today?” You asked cautiously.
Calum chuckled “Yeah… Matthew almost threw me off at one point, he’s getting good at soccer”
“I hope so! His dad told me he started going to practice cause he wants to be a soccer player and a musician like his uncle Cal” You said, pecking your lips in Calum’s red cheek. You could see that he was slightly embarrassed but in a good way. You wonder if your future children will be like that as well.
Maybe they’ll have his cheeks, or your eyes… oh, please let them have Calum’s curly hair.
You smiled to yourself at the thought of little chubby-cheeked curly-haired heads running around your house. They will be perfect and they will be so loved…
Calum hummed next to your ear, placing a little kiss to the shell of it “I know what’s got you all wrapped up in daydream land” He said, hugging you tighter.
You turned your face to look at him “You do?” He nodded and placed his head on your shoulder again.
“Knew it since I saw you looking at me when I was playing with the kids” He placed a kiss on your cheek and made you turn around completely while still holding you by your waist. You swore you could hear the beating of your heart thundering louder and louder.
“And to be honest, I’ve been thinking about it since the first time I saw you hold a baby”
You blinked at him, confusion written all over your face “What?”
“Well… I knew from the moment I saw you that I wanted to start a family with you. I just confirmed it the day you took me to Matthew’s birthday party to meet your family” He said as a matter-of-factly.
“Yo-you want to start a family with me?” You asked with a flash of hope in your eyes.
Calum smiled at you, his eyes filled with pure adoration “I want to start everything with you, Angel. As long as you let me”
“Do you think we’re ready?”
“I love you, you love me” He said and you nodded with a smile “We’ve been together for 7 years, married for 3; we both have steady jobs, I’m not leaving for tour anytime soon so I’ll be home through every step of the way, we live in a nice house and Duke is more than ready to have a new partner in crime, so… what do you say, love?” Calum said with a cheeky smile.
You wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him closer into a kiss.
“Let’s do it”

“Four… Five… Seven!”
“Six babe. Five, six, seven.”
“Five seven.”
In Beks smile, all Grayson could see was Indiana. As far as the rest of his daughter, she looked just like him. Brown hair, brown eyes, even the same little dimple. But her smile, and the feeling it gave him in his gut? That was all Indiana. His wife, who was unfortunately still pacing a bit in the terminal, a coffee in her hands.
As soon as she realized that they were back from their walk, she perked up, putting on her brave face for Beks so she didn’t think anything was wrong.
“Mama! Hi mama!”
“Hi sweet girl.” She held her hands out for her daughter, smiling when she gleefully reached for her. Grayson passed her over without a hesitation. As little as their almost three year old was, she was her mom’s biggest anchor when things got hard.
“You okay?” He asked it quietly while Beks was distracted, twirling a piece of her mom’s hair around her little fingers.
Indy looked at the clock. 5 minutes till boarding.
Her face was enough of an answer for her husband, and he frowned.
“Nauseous?”
She nodded.
“We’ll be okay,” he offered, reaching out for her free hand to squeeze it and trace a heart. It relaxed her a tiny bit, but she still bit her lip.
“My whole world is about to be in a plane, out of my control.” She turned her head to kiss Bekah’s hair. “She’s so small. Nothing I could do if…”
“Hey, hey none of that. You know what Bethany says about the doomsday stuff.”
“Unhelpful, unlikely and unproductive.” Indy whispered her therapists words back to herself, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. She’d gotten better about flying, accomplished things she never thought she would. Charlie and Devin’s wedding in Oregon, her own wedding in Maui, flying back and forth to see Lisa, trips to Australia even. But things changed when she got pregnant. Now, her heart lived outside of her body, in a tiny almost toddler who was as content as could be on her hip. The flight to Jersey had been decent, but the way home seemed like an impossible hurtle.
“It’ll all be over in a few hours. And then we’ll be home, back to our bed and our house.” Grayson wished he could fix it, wished he could take it on himself. But all he could really do was squeeze her hand and stay calm.
Indy nodded, but when the gate attendant came over the intercom she felt like she could vomit right there. She silently passed Beks over to Grayson and fumbled for their boarding passes with shaky hands.
“Plane daddy! There’s a plane!” Bekah smiled, pointing out the window as another aircraft taxied by.
“Yeah! It’s big, isn’t it,” Grayson tickled her belly and kissed her cheek as he readjusted the diaper bag over his shoulder and headed into the boarding lane behind Indy. They made their way down the jet bridge and into first class, Indy moving to the window seat and immediately holding out her hands for Bekah. They’d been blessed with a very happy baby who was content most of the time as long as she had a familiar face with her. She sat on Indy’s lap and played with the necklace she had on, rubbing at her eyes with the other hand.
“You tired bubba?” Grayson sat down and ran a hand over her back. Beks nodded slowly. “Here, c’mere, give momma a break.”
Indy passed her back over, melting like she always did when Bekah leaned forward onto Grayson’s chest, relaxing fully in the safety of his arms. She loved nothing more than seeing the father he was to their little girl. It was more than she could have ever asked for, and she watched as he moved her just enough to get his seatbelt on, knowing she would be asleep in a few minutes.
He hummed to her quietly, moving a hand over her ear to quiet the inevitable announcements from the flight attendants, and Indy watched as her eyes fluttered closed, long eyelashes resting on pink cheeks.
“Is she out?” Grayson dared to ask after a few minutes.
Indy nodded, her eyes burning a bit as she fought back tears. Bekah just looked so small, and fragile, and the plane was moving and she felt like she couldn’t control anything, not even her emotions.
“Do you want to hold her? Would that help?”
“No, she’s comfy it’s okay, I don’t want to wake her up,” Indy whispered, shaking her head. Even still, she stretched a hand over into Grayson’s seat, trying to catch her breath and focus on the feeling of his hand in hers, his wedding ring cold against her fingers. She looked at him, tried to lose herself in him the way she always had. He looked the same as that first day outside of Frazier, with a healthy amount of scruff. His hair was a bit shorter than it was then - Lisa always gave him a good haircut when he was in town. But his smile was still the same, and his eyes just as warm when he looked back into hers.
“Breathe baby. I’m right here, we’re gonna be there before you know it. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
She willed herself to believe him and put a headphone in her ear, started her playlist and closed her eyes as the plane moved towards the runway and her daughter slept.
Things were slightly better once they got into the air. It didn’t surprise her that Grayson fell asleep within the first hour. She could tell he was fighting his eyelids as he tried to stay awake in case she needed him, but the warmth and weight of Beks was enough to lull him off. The way she knew for sure was when his thumb stopped rubbing against the back of her hand. Indy didn’t mind - if he wasn’t awake he wasn’t worrying about her at least She took the time to look at them - really look at them for a while. Bekah was so active, always exploring and getting into things. It made moments like these rare, especially as she got older. She’d never understood what her mom had meant, when she said her heart had grown two sizes to accommodate her and Charlie.
In all those months after they got back together, she had thought it was impossible to love someone as much, or more, than she loved Grayson. She proved herself wrong after he became her husband, and again when they found out they were having a baby, a girl. Her love for him grew even more while she was pregnant. And then Bekah Nicole Dolan had entered the picture, and their lives had never been the same. It felt like just yesterday that she was watching Grayson cry in the hospital room, holding his baby girl for the first time. Since then there were two birthday parties, almost three years of watching her grow into herself, watching her learn, watching her develop her own little personality. She was Indy’s new favorite thing to study, and she kept herself busy for most of the flight looking through old pictures on her phone. It calmed her more than she thought it would, and kept her occupied until Beks woke up from her nap.
It was a nice distraction for her to focus on keeping her daughter entertained and happy once she maneuvered her out of Grayson’s lap. They colored after Indy fished the coloring book and crayons out from her bag, and they looked at pictures, and watched out the window, Bekah asking “what dat?” over and over again at all the things she could see on the ground.
The flight attendants message to prepare for landing was what finally woke Grayson up from his slumber, and his bleary eyes were immediately guilty.
“You should have woken me up,” he pouted, already looking her over for any sign of her anxious habits.
“We’re okay. I got a handle on it. Glad you’re awake for landing though,” she reassured him, reaching a hand out for his again. He happily took it, and smiled when Bekah leaned over to put her hand on top of theirs, always wanting to be involved. The landing was smooth, and Indy took her first truly relaxed breath in hours once the plane stopped moving at the gate. Bekah felt it, felt her chest rise and fall so dramatically that she turned and smiled up at her.
“Breathe mama,” she said, just like her dad always did. “Big breaf.” Her ‘th’ sounds were still f’s, and Indy selfishly hoped they stayed that way for a while longer. She over exaggerated her next breath so Beks could feel it. It satisfied her enough it seemed, and she held Grayson’s hand as they walked off the plane and into the airport. Grayson’s back hurt by the time they made it to baggage claim from the way he was crouched over to keep his hand in hers, but she was determined to do it herself and keep him close.
All that went out the window when she saw who was waiting for her by the baggage carousel.
“UNCLE ETEE!”
Ethan smiled his widest smile and crouched down with his arms open, ready to catch her as she ran as fast as her little legs would take her. He caught her and tossed her up in the air just to hear her giggle.
“Hi bug! How was Jersey?”
“Good! I saw Grandma Lisa and daddy showed me a waterfall and we stayed in the other house and momma made pancakes. Where’s Miles?” Her attention jumped around like a pinball in the machine, but she looked down to Ethan’s left side where there was usually a very cute five year old.
“He’s home taking care of Aunt Eden, making sure little Maisie isn’t giving her too much trouble.”
“Is she still in her belly?”
“Yeah bug, for a little while longer. But, she missed you so much that she wants everybody to come out to the beach for a little while before it gets dark. And if mommy and daddy are too tired, you can just come with us.”
Indiana wanted to cry. She knew what her brother was doing - giving her an out in case the flight had gone badly, a chance to recuperate if need be. Truth be told, she was still nauseous, but her nerves had settled and the thought of seeing Eden and her nephew were too good to pass up. She’d missed them despite only being gone for a few days.
“We’ll all go, just gotta get changed at the house first,” Indy said, and she felt Grayson perk up beside her, somewhat surprised by her answer.
“Alrighty then, let’s roll.” Ethan led the way with Beks on his hip, Grayson managing most of the bags on the way out to the car. Things had gotten better since they’d traveled with Beks as an infant - less equipment required for a toddler, especially one who was easily entertained by her parents.
Before they knew it Beks was in her car seat, thrilled that her dad climbed into the backseat to ‘hang out’ with her while he gave his wife shotgun. Ethan played Cudi, the clean versions, and everyone in the car sang along, even if Bekah was mostly just humming and kicking her feet.
It took about 30 minutes to get to the main gate of the houses. Indy could still remember the first time she’d been in a car pulling up to the same spot. Things were a bit different now - they’d bought out their neighbors house when it went up for sale, tore down the fences and made it all one big backyard with each of the couples in their own space. E squared kept the original house - it’s where they’d raised Miles after all. Indy had enjoyed getting to make the new house her own. It wasn’t lost on her that it was the bigger of the two, with Grayson’s dream of a big family always at the back of his mind.
It was on Indy’s too, especially when she saw Eden waiting on the porch of their house, her bump on full display, framed out by her bikini and cover up. Maisie Rae Dolan was due in two months, and the whole crew was counting down the days until her arrival, none more so than her mother.
Miles came around the corner at full speed once the car stopped, running around the car to find the only one he ever looked for. Grayson couldn’t get her out of her carseat fast enough, but as soon as Beks was on the ground Miles was hugging her.
“Hi best friend!” Bekah said as soon as her face wasn’t buried in his shirt.
“Hi! I missed you! Daddy helped me make a countdown and I counted all the days until you came back and now you’re here! Do you wanna see it?!”
“Yeah!”
Grayson had to catch the two of them before they went barrelling towards the house.
“Hold on guys, if we wanna make it to the beach early enough to get into the water we all need to get changed and packed up. We’ll see you there Mi, okay?”
Miles nodded once, then immediately turned to Ethan.
“Dad, can I ride with Uncle Grayson and Aunt Indy?”
“They just got back babe, gotta give them a minute to settle in. But, if mom’s up for it we can go early and look for some shells, okay?”
He threw a wink to Grayson as he unloaded the bags. Meanwhile, Indy was on the porch, catching up with Eden.
“Any changes? Contractions or anything?”
“Other than her kicking my spleen every five minutes and sitting on my bladder like a throne, we’re golden.”
She didn’t look golden. In fact, she looked exhausted.
“Miles wearing you out?”
All she had to do was look at her and Indy was laughing.
“Whenever you need us to take him, just send him over.”
“You act as if you too do not have a child that wears you out.”
The pair looked over at their husbands, and their kids. Miles was attempting to climb the tree in the front yard, which was his new found mission he’d been working on. Ethan stood guard below, shifting back and forth to catch his son in case he lost his balance trying to maneuver the first main branch.
Meanwhile, Beks was picking flowers one by one and holding them in her fist. Indy watched as she carried her mini bouquet over to Grayson and held it out proudly. They watched as she stuck her tongue out in concentration while she tucked one behind her dad’s ear.
“Yeah… so whenever you need us to take him, just send him over,” Indy repeated with a laugh that Eden quickly joined in on, holding her bump with her hands.
“Go get settled, if Beks gets ancy we can load her up with us.”
“She should be fine, we hate unpacking night of anyways. We’ll see you in a little while.”
She was halfway across the lawn before Eden called after her.
“Oh! Before I forget, I had some extra stuff lying around that definitely won’t fit for a while, or ever, after this one -” she pointed to her stomach. “I left them and some other stuff for you in your closet. Anything you don’t want just bring it back and I’ll throw it in the donation pile.”
Indy threw her a thumbs up and rounded up Beks, headed back to their house. She could breathe easier as soon as she was inside the familiar walls. Their house was modern, but every space was warmed by something personal, most of which was made by Grayson. With the transition away from social media and into behind the scenes production, he had more time to build and perfect his craft. Family touches were everywhere as well, from the picture frame on the coffee table from last christmas to the booster seat in the kitchen table chair where they all sat to eat dinner every night. Indy’s work badge was still on the counter, with the nemo sticker that covered her last name so no one could look her up and realize just who she was married to. But below it you could still read the name of the pediatric hospital she called home.
All those thoughts were fleeting though, considering Beks was on a mission to get to the beach.
“I’ll get her ready if you pack the beach bag?” Grayson offered. Indy smiled and nodded, heading back into the bedroom to get changed herself. When she got to her closet, she found the pile of things from Eden - some of her tighter dresses, jean shorts, bikinis, a few bottles of perfume with a note scribbled, smell makes me sick now. Fml. Beside that was a box with a note; pregnancy tests, won’t be needing these anytime soon… hopefully lmao.
Indy rolled her eyes and laughed to herself, putting everything away in its right spot and pulling out a nice bikini from the stack to throw on. She grabbed one of Grayson’s long sleeve shirts to put on over it before she headed back out. The bag was mostly prepped already with the essentials - the beach was a common Dolan outing after all. All she had to add was towels and a sandwich for Beks in case she got hungry.
Food was the last thing on Bekah’s mind it seemed when she came down the hall, already asking if it was time to go. Indy wasn’t one to brag, but her daughter had to be up there with the cutest babies of all time, especially in her custom 2T sized spread positivity hoodie over her bathing suit and tiny chaco sandals. Her hair was still in the tiny space buns that Indy had put them in earlier, only adding to the way she was making her melt.
Indy loaded up the car while Grayson threw on a speedo and regular shorts to cover up with, not bothering with a shirt. Indy preferred it that way - she enjoyed the view, which she had plenty of time to admire from the passenger seat once they were on the road. Grayson held her hand, looking like a Raybans model in his sunglasses, tattoos on full display as he drove. Her favorite was still the forever scribbled out across his ribs, especially with the script right below it. Bekah Nicole. His daughter's name.
It still amazed Indy how lucky she was, to have the life that she did, to have found the love that she had. It took her breath away at times, made her stomach feel like it was floating when she remembered that the man beside her was hers, forever. She turned around the check on Beks, who was telling a story that made no sense, although Grayson was acting like he understood every single word. Their perfect little girl. Even then, she would still tear up if she looked at her for too long.
The secret beach, somehow, still seemed to be their little secret. There were a few couples, but it was mostly empty apart from the other Dolan family that had beat them there. Grayson followed close behind Bekah as she ran through the sand towards Miles.
“Now remember, you have to flip them over and if you even think there might be a hermit grab in there, you put it back because that's his home,” Ethan was informing his son when they reached the group. Eden was already lounged out in a chair, feet buried in the sand and hand absentmindedly rubbing over her bump. She peeked an eye open when she heard Indy start setting up beside her, looking to check on her son before she relaxed back down.
“Momma? You take me in the waves? Pleaseeeee,” Bekah asked before Indy could sit.
“Sure babe,” she smiled, pulling her shirt off quickly before scooping up her daughter and heading towards the water. Grayson wasn’t far behind them, ever the protector, wanting to be close by in case they needed anything.
The water was chilly against Indy’s toes when she got into the break, and she bent down to let Beks stand in the frothy tide. As soon as the water got her feet she squealed, spinning around and reaching up.
“S’cold momma!”
Indy laughed and picked her back up, unsurprised to see Miles and Ethan headed down the beach towards them, undoubtedly with the same idea. She was glad Eden was getting some much needed rest time, so she grinned and bared the cold water on her stomach as she got deeper in, jumping dramatically as the waves came through just to get a giggle out of her daughter. Grayson joined in on the fun, taking his turn to toss Beks up into the air and catch her with a splash and kisses all over her cheeks. They kept playing until the dad’s arms were sore, seeing that Miles wanted in on the fun, and the sun was beginning to set. Beks was cold by the time they made it back to the chairs, and Grayson immediately wrapped her up in a towel and snuggled her up against him, resting his cheek on the top of her head as she curled into his chest.
Indy put her own towel over her shoulders, and the warmth of it was almost enough to have her lulling off to sleep. She fought it off, catching up with Ethan while Eden got Miles ready to go. The kids were wiped, and with a day of travel under her belt Beks was asleep on her dad’s shoulder before they even made it to the tesla.
“Watch this,” he whispered, showing off his skills of placing her in her seat without waking her up. It was impressive, truly, but even more so was the fact that he drove carefully enough through all the traffic on the way that she was still dreaming peacefully when they got home.
“We have to wake her up to get her changed,” he pouted, not wanting to disturb her after the day she’d had.
“I got it. You start on dinner, I’m fucking starving.”
“Deal,” he grinned, leaning across the console to kiss her quickly before getting out. Indy exited the passenger side, opening up Beks door and talking to her quietly until her eyes opened, blinking wide and confused.
“You’re okay babe, we’re home.”
Indy soaked up the cuddles from her groggy daughter on the way into the house. She didn’t bother with anything else - they’d do a bath first thing in the morning. Instead, she moved to the ocean nursery, changing Beks quickly into a fresh diaper and pj’s before laying her down in her bed underneath the jellyfish Eden had helped design for the wall. She kissed her forehead and rubbed her back until she lulled back down, exhausted from the excitement of the day.
Indy felt salty, her skin tight from the water, but she didn’t have the energy to shower. Instead, she headed into her room and grabbed another one of Grayson’s shirts along with some running shorts, taking them into the bathroom with her to get changed.
The cabinet was still slightly open, and she reached down to close it when she saw it. A box of tampons - unopened. It took a minute for her to do the math, and she wasn’t 100% on if she was late or not, but that familiar knot tied in her stomach when she was unsure. Quietly, she locked the door and rummaged around for the pregnancy tests she’d just hidden away.
In the kitchen, Grayson was humming to himself as he strained the noodles for the mac and cheese - two boxes in fact, considering how hungry Indy said she was. The fridge was low considering they’d just gotten back, but he managed to scrounge up some fresh-enough fruit to cut up and put on a plate on the counter.
Indy came back into the kitchen so quietly that he barely noticed as he was stirring in the vegan cheese.
“Jeez Dee, you scared me,” he teased, pulling her in for a hug. “How yah feeling?”
“Exhausted,” she mumbled, relaxing in his hold and melting into his chest. He loved when she did that, let him hold her after a long day. He didn’t pull away until she did, the smell of mac and cheese luring her away.
Grayson took her hips with his hands and helped boost her up onto the counter, passing her the bowl he’d made for her. They ate quickly and quietly, the idea of curling up in bed more and more appealing as the carbs started to settle into their systems. When they’d cleared their bowls Indy moved to the sink, only for Grayson to shake his head.
“I got it. Go get in bed, you had a hell of a day.”
She sighed, kissing his bare shoulder once before getting up on her tiptoes to ask for a real one. He obliged her, bending down to catch her lips with his. “Love you,” she murmured, running her fingers over his back as she walked towards their room. She peaked in on Beks to make sure she was still out before she headed back to the bedroom, pulling out the test that she’d tucked away in her waistband.
She blinked three times, hard.
Two lines. Two very dark lines.
“Holy shit.”
Emotions raced through her so fast she couldn’t catch a single one to give it a name. She barely had it together enough to hide it behind her back when Grayson walked in a few minutes later seemingly unfazed.
“I’m gonna shower real quick, you wanna join?” He offered, looking down into his dresser drawers for a pair of boxers.
“Uh, yeah, yeah I’ll join but can you do me a favor really quick?”
“Hmm,” he asked, turning towards her.
She held out the test in her shaky hand.
“Can you add this to the shelf?”
The shelf itself was on the wall beside him. All the old pictures had made their way over to the new house with some new additions, including the positive test that had told them they were having Beks, her ultrasound, her first birthday party.
It took Grayson a moment to process, and then his hands were shaking too as he took the small stick and looked at it through his blurry eyes.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“For real?”
“For real.”
“We’re having another baby.”
“Yep.”
“Another Beks.”
“Yep.”
“Holy shit.”
“Yep.”
“Holy fuck!” The excitement finally broke through the shock, and before she could move Grayson’s arms were around his wife, spinning her around as he buried his face in her neck.
“You’re pregnant. We’re having another baby.”
“It doesn’t feel real yet. I just took the test before dinner.” Indy’s eyes were watery, her hand automatically going over her stomach.
“It will. It’ll fly by, just like with Beks. Holy fuck, I’m so excited. I love you so much.”
“I love you more,” she whispered, pulling him to her again for another hug.
“Not possible,” he said, shaking his head and kissing her shoulder.
“Well, I love you forever then. I love our family, forever.”
Grayson couldn’t find the words. Instead, he just kissed her, forever grateful for every moment that had led him to right there, his whole world and future under one roof - everything he’d dreamed of within his hands.

A/N: sorry for the long wait, boo! I hope you like this and it was worth waiting for!
Pairing: Calum x Indian!Reader
Warnings: none
Words: 1237
Summary: You and Calum have been dating for a while now and you decide it’d be just perfect to take him to your cousin’s wedding to introduce him to your entire family. It brings you and Calum closer as he starts to understand your ancestry
Y/N’s POV
Over the past week, I had gotten so many texts with questions from Calum about your cousin’s wedding you were going to attend this weekend. You and Calum have been friends since forever as you were born and raised in the same town as him. You’re from Indian descent, but your parents moved to Sydney about a year before you were born. When you and Calum turned eighteen, you both realized you’ve always wanted more than a friendship, and you’ve been in a loving relationship with him for over four years now. It’s about time he’d get to know your entire family and the traditions you were accustomed to. He’d bugged you an entire week, asking what he should wear, if he should bring a present, what food they were going to serve, why the hell the wedding lasted a whole weekend. You explained everything patiently, but it was getting annoying. “Okay, I’m gonna need your help with choosing what outfit I’m gonna wear, I brought several options but I’m thinking --” I hear him ramble from the hallway all the way upstairs and to my bedroom where he stops in his tracks because he just laid eyes on me; already in my outfit, makeup and hair. “Shit, you look hot. You look a little like Jasmine from Aladdin,” he says, completely in shock. I chuckle and feel a blush coming on. “First of all, I’m Indian, Jasmine is Arabian,” I tell him, rolling my eyes, “But I guess it does look a little like her,” I say, looking down at my blue skirt and top. I thank my hair goddesses -- aka my other cousins -- for doing my hair so beautifully and putting the golden hair piece in. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to. With the big earrings, the bangles on my arms and my makeup done so beautifully, I feel amazing and so ready for this wedding. “You know, I had a crush on Jasmine when I was younger,” he then says, walking closer to me and putting his hands on my hips. “Well, then I’ll make your childhood dreams come true tonight,” I whisper and lean in to kiss him on the lips, “But chose your outfit now and get ready. We cannot be late,” I tap his chest before stepping away from him.
After having chosen his outfit, and getting ready, we go downstairs where my parents are waiting for us. The four of us get into the car and drive to the reception we were invited to. I wanted to go to the rest of the wedding too, but since Calum only got off work a day ago and we only flew in from LA this morning, we couldn’t. Plus, we were super jetlagged, so we decided on only going to the reception. I could tell Calum was nervous by the way he was squeezing my hand in the car and the way his leg was shaking. “Hey,” I say, capturing his attention, “You’re going to be fine,” I tell him, making him relax a little. He gives me a smile and leans down to kiss me softly. “Oi, Y/N, no kissing,” mom says, looking at the both of us from the rear view mirror. I roll my eyes at her. She’d rather have me be with someone of the same ethnic. My parents had picked out the perfect Indian boy for me, but then I told them I was in love with the boy I’ve been friends with forever. They weren’t completely fine with it, but they didn’t forbid me dating him. They liked Calum. He was a nice, well-mannered boy and he clearly made me happy.
We arrive at the reception, it already being in full-swing. People are standing around with drinks in their hands and talking to each other. My cousin and her now-husband stand near the door to welcome everyone. “Hi!” your cousin greets with a smile, her arms open, “So happy you made it!” she exclaims excitedly as she hugs me. “I’m sorry we didn’t make the ceremony, Y/C/N. We weren’t physically able to,” I tell her with a smile. She knows Calum lives in LA for his job -- being a band and all that -- and I go to visit him on my off days. She knows we only flew in this morning and she didn’t mind. “No, I understand! It’s totally fine!” she says and greets Calum with a hug too. “You can get your cocktails over there. We’ll get to the reception soon once everyone’s arrived,” she tells us. Calum and I both nod before I lead him to the bar where we receive our cocktail. I introduce Calum to the rest of my family and we’re stuck talking to my grandparents until we’re allowed to go into reception. There’s an enormous dancefloor in the middle of the room, surrounded by round tables and a DJ set up. “Babe,” Calum calls my attention, “What does Chikna mean?” he asks as you both go to sit at your respective table with your other cousins that are around the same age as you. “It means attractive or cute, why?” I ask him. “Your auntie just called me a chikna,” he says, and I can tell he’s blushing a little. I can’t help but laugh at that. That’s something all my aunties would say. “Well, she’s not wrong,” I tell him with a smile. We proceed to communicate with my cousins, they ask Calum about the band and his job and everything while we eat. I think Calum likes the food the most out of all of this. When the food is eaten and everyone’s all good, it’s time for the performances of the evening before the real party starts. We watch all of my cousins and family members dance, and it’s kind of making me jealous. I could’ve been on that dancefloor too if I didn’t stay in LA for the past few weeks. “They’re amazing!” Calum says in my ear and plants a kiss right beneath it. “I could’ve been there too,” I tell him, causing his eyes to widen, “Yeah, if I didn’t stay in LA for the past week, I would’ve learned the choreo too and I would’ve been there too,” I explain with a sad tone in my voice. “Aw, baby, I’m sorry,” he says, noticing that it’s making me upset. “No, it’s fine. At least I got to spend time with you,” I tell him with a smile. When performances are over, the dancefloor becomes busy. Very busy. Everyone joins in on a little dance, and I have to grab my boyfriend’s hand to drag him onto the dancefloor too. There’s a lot of Hindi and Bollywood music playing, but the very first pop song that’s heard everywhere nowadays is Youngblood by a band named 5 Seconds of Summer. I give Calum a grin as he turns a little red. “They did that on purpose, didn’t they?” he asks me, shaking his head. “Yep!” I tell him with a grin. The entire dancefloor sings along to the song, making my heart burst with immense pride. For the rest of the night, Calum and I dance together with my cousins and aunties and uncles. It’s a fun night and I couldn’t have asked for a better date to my cousin’s wedding than Calum Thomas Hood. My boyfriend.

Changlix AU / Break The Silence (Epilogue)
Pairings: Seo Changbin x Lee Felix, Bang Chan x Kim Woojin, Lee Minho x Han Jisung, Kim Seungmin x Hwang Hyunjin, ft. Yang Jeongin Plot: Chan finally sees no other chance to rebel against the system, even though he knows that he can get into trouble once again, losing the person he loves a second time. But he has to risk it! Felix ha no clue what the strange package in front of his house is meant to be, but when he follows the clues it leads him to a conspiracy he never wanted to be part of. (SiFi!Au, Futuristic!AU) Warnings: tooth-rotting fluff Words: 1222 Part One/Two/Three/Four/Five/Six/Seven/Eight/Nine/Ten/Eleven/Twelve/Thirteen/Fourteen/Fifteen/Sixteen/Epilogue
A/N: A little bit emotional because now this series is over. But I already started the next one XD. Anyway, hope you like the epilogue!! <3
Coming back here is nothing like Felix had imaged. It's different. More peaceful, no heart racing. It doesn't feel like he is finally ruined with something that was missing the past three years. It's more like walking down a totally new world. The city is nothing like he remembers it. Not dark and mysterious anymore. Peaceful. Light. Friendly. He likes how many threes they have put up, making the city greener. Besides that a few years ago, there would have been barely any family going around hand in hand with their children. Playing around. It kind of reminds him of the cities they have stayed the past years. They have travelled around Australia, helping people, having a normal life. They were all able to finish school and learn a job they really wanted to do. Besides that Felix can walk hand in hand with his longtime boyfriend, without people looking weirded out at them. Three years ago he would have been arrested and sent to a special education home. To be honest the memory does kind of make the young men shutter. Back there he didn't know how much better life could be, not when he could compare, Felix wouldn't go back to this time for anything in this world.
"Since we are here you're smiling like an idiot." Changbin chuckled, leaning his head against his boyfriend's shoulder.
"It's just unbelievable how fast this city could change and we were a part of the reason."
"Don't cry, Lixie. I didn't know you're as emotional as Jisung." Said person overhears their conversation, looking offended.
"Shut up, Changbin! We're finally back. I'm allowed to be emotional."
"Of course you are." Minho immediately assures him, getting a fond look from his fiancé.
"Since he proposed to you, you're like a love drunk puppy following him everywhere and agreeing with everything" Jeongin giggled, teasing Minho, who glares at the youngest.
"He finally proposed?" Jaebum asks, joining the conversation. They haven't caught up with the others for a few months, but finally, they decided to meet in Seoul. "Marriage is really a big thing, you two should be sure about that." Everyone chuckles at the older's concern.
"Don't let Jinyoung hear that." Changbin laughs. "Or he might get the intention that you regret your decisions."
"Who regret's what." Everyone keeps quiet, with wide smiles, when Jinyoung suddenly joins them, putting an arm around his husband's waist.
"Come on tell me, guys?" Jinyoung pouts looking at them with big puppy eyes.
"Ask your husband," Felix smirks, before he decides it's better to leave them catching up with Chan and Woojin, who walk a little further than the rest of the group.
"Tell me what you all talked about." Felix can make out Jinyoung's voice, soon followed by Jaebums rambling.
"What did you guys do this time?" Chan asks, but it's obvious that he tries to hide a smile.
"Wasn't our fault."
"Definitely not."
Woojin and Chan only laugh, admiring the buildings around them.
"By the way, how was your honeymoon?" Felix wiggles his brows.
"Where were you again?" Woojin blushes slightly but immediately starts to tell them about their journey around the world. Chan really spoils his husband.
"And then we were in Germany. They have the best beer and a lot of awesome holographic cinemas. We saw this movie and it kinda made us think...it would be really amazing to have a small family...of course we have you guys, but it would be kind of nice to have children." Woojin smiles at the thought.
"We could adopt. Maybe here in Soul, or somewhere else. It's just a thought..."
"You two would be amazing parents," Felix says loving the idea. And really Chan and Woojin literally raised all of them especially Jeongin.
"That would mean I'll become an uncle...OMG...can I babysit...please?" Chan chuckles.
"We will see, but I think you have to promise me not to teach them dabbing." Felix pouts. "It's the newest trend."
"It's not. It was many years ago and you shouldn't watch all that historical stuff it only helps you to learn dumb stuff." They all laugh, only Felix tries to remain mad.
"Are you teasing Felix again," Bambam asks, jumping next to the younger.
"I can't let you hurt my son."
"He is not your son!"
"He is." Bambam grins.
"You're more like twins with a terrible taste for what's in and what's out." Right after saying that, Yugyeom regrets what he said and immediately sprints away, trying to escape from his boyfriend and Felix who are really fast, chasing him down the street.
"You're boyfriend is really something." Chan chuckles.
"He is the best." Everyone would be able to see the adoration and love in Changbin's eyes when he watches Felix running around like a child.
"So?"
"What?" Changbin looks up at the older couple, raising his brows.
"Any weddings we have to attend in the future?" The blush on the younger's face is visible.
"You planned something?" Woojin screeches, immediately on the younger's side wanting to know every detail.
"I want to propose to him tonight."
"What tonight. OMG." Chan motions for his husband to be a little quieter or Felix will hear them.
"We had our first kiss on the top of the media tower before we got caught. The tower still remains. I thought it would be nice to do it up there. Have a nice dinner and then pop the question."
Woojin is literally swooning over how romantic that is.
"Who would have guessed that under those layers of black clothes, you're a total romantic."
"Shut up." Changbin only mumbles, but he still can't keep himself from smiling.
"This city might bring many bad memories with it, but we all grew up here and it's the reason we know each other."
"True." The other two agree.
"Then, good luck tonight." Chan smiles at the younger.
"Then only Hyunjin and Seungmin are left. Oh and we finally have to find someone for Jeongin...Where are they even." They turn around, seeing them at the end of their group.
"I guess they are arguing with Mark and Jackson again. They just can't decide who the couple with more visuals is."
"Clearly me and Minho," Jisung shouts from behind and immediately they all start discussing.
"Guys!" Jeongin snaps them out, pointing at a building. "That's the mall. He breaths, not quite believing it himself."
"They rebuild it." Felix steps to the side of his boyfriend again, taking his hand.
"It looks so different."
"There are even shops again." Hyunjin notices.
"Should we go inside?"
"Why, not. Let's walk down our memory lane." They all agree, coming closer to the doors.
"You know..." Felix starts, looking at Changbin.
"What?"
"I'm glad to be here, but guess what I love the most about it?"
"That you can go shopping here!?"
"That too." The younger laughs at his boyfriend's answer. "But the best is that I'm here with you."
"That was terribly cheesy," Changbin remarks, but a smile is vivid on his lips.
"But that's why I love you."
"I love you too, Binnie." The lean in for a quick kiss before catching up with the others.
If they would have known about this three years ago, they probably wouldn't have believed that their lives would change that much. But it's nothing they would change.

Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow By OverTheRainbow: Epilogue
Chapter 6: Epilogue
The next few days had been a whirlwind of introductions, explanations, apologies and eventual celebrations. Kelly had screamed down the telephone with delight and insisted immediately on logging on to Skype in order to "meet" John. Kieron had received the news via FaceTime from Cyprus and while he was initially, understandably cautious about the sudden turn of events, particularly as he'd never met John, he could see that his sister was incredibly happy and after a few private chats with him, Kieron was reassured that Kayleigh had indeed finally found a decent bloke to share her life with. John was more than a bit relieved to receive his approval. Even on screen Kieran looked like he could probably kill him with his index finger. Mandy took a little more convincing but it wasn't long before she too began to realise that John was an honourable man, whose past mistakes were born of fear and not malice and that he and her sister were truly, a match made in heaven. Mandy was genuinely touched when John, insisted on returning the £140 to their holiday fund. Pointing out that he wouldn't take money "from family". Kayleigh's Mum Sal and Dad Tommy were, thankfully, a much easier proposition. As was John's Mum Evelyn, who was thrilled to see her son so happy. Kayleigh's parents liked John immediately. Her Dad in particular, shared a similar nature and a wry sense of humour. They were soon setting the world to rights, as John helped him clean out their guttering. Meanwhile their Mum's had bonded over Zumba and Sh'Bam and became regular lunch and shopping companions. Eventually even Misty approved of the latest addition to the family. After some initial suspicion, when she arrived in Preston to discover this interloper in her midst, the little mongrel began to feel comfortable with John and greeted him with enthusiasm when he arrived at the door. He'd joked with Kayleigh that he might even grow to like "Dogging". She'd looked up from her wedding magazine, "Yeah, you're funny". He chuckled, "I am aren't I? Tell your mates. I'm playing here all week". "You'll be playin with yourself if you're not careful!" "Ooh I see what you did there..." "Hmm, I'll bet you did". They were soon giggling like kids.
He'd decided to make an extra special day of it when he'd taken her to Manchester to buy her engagement ring. They would stay overnight at the Lowry Hotel with a Spa visit for Kayleigh and an evening meal with champagne for them both. He didn't usually drink alcohol but he'd make an exception this time. He bought her an emerald cut diamond, set in a platinum and diamond band. She'd lingered around the cheaper rings until he'd called her over and pointed out the one he'd secretly seen her admiring on her iPad. Her eyes lit up as soon as she saw it. "It's too expensive John". "Nah. It's just right...besides, some things are worth it." He attracted the attention of the shop assistant, "My fiancée and I would like to see that one please". He smiled and winked at Kayleigh. He loved calling her his fiancée and he knew she liked hearing it. It was perfect on her finger. She'd decided to get a manicure especially for their shopping trip and it added to the effect. They'd also decided to buy their wedding rings. They all needed to be sized to fit and their wedding rings were also to be engraved on the inside with their initials and the date of their wedding. After some debate about the relative merits of a summer verses a winter wedding, they'd decided on New Year's Eve. The idea of celebrating the New Year by starting a new life, appealed to them both. Besides, Kayleigh liked the thought that the Christmas Lights would still be up and that from now on, her favourite time of the year would be even more special. Throw in that Kelly, along with her Auntie Pat and Uncle Bob, would be returning from Australia for a visit and that Kieron would be home on leave and the decision was well and truly made. Neither of them favoured a long engagement. They both knew with absolute certainty that they wanted to make the commitment and saw any unnecessary delay, as futile. So the clock was now ticking down, to the Redmond/Kitson nuptials.
The six months leading up to the big day were hectic, to say the least. Although Kayleigh had been mentally planning her wedding for years, the reality brought with it unforeseen obstacles to navigate. The first being that John's Mum wanted a church wedding. While John no longer practiced his religion, he was baptised and raised in the church and for his Mother, it constituted what she believed to be, a "proper" wedding. Kayleigh on the other hand thought religion was a "load of hoopty" and wanted a civil ceremony at their wedding venue, a beautiful boutique hotel in the countryside not too far from Manchester. For a time it seemed that neither side would back down and John felt the pressure of being caught between the two women. A compromise was finally reached after Kayleigh agreed that their wedding rings would be blessed and that, for now, she wouldn't completely rule out the possibility of Christening any children they might have. Peace was restored in the Kingdom. It was a compromise agreement worthy of a UN Special Envoy and a Nobel Prize.
John was also on the move. A vacancy for a Store Manager had come up in Burnley and with a reasonably short commute from Preston, it was ideal. The current arrangement was a strain on them both, with John volunteering to take the lion share of the burden by staying with Kayleigh in Preston most nights. It meant he'd lost his parking space, as he could no longer reliably Car Share with a colleague. Instead he now used a park and ride. He was awake at dawn and knackered by the time he got home. His contribution to wedding planning had so far consisted of, "Hm…what? Oh yeah, that sounds nice. You have what you want love" before falling asleep. That she'd just jokingly asked him if they should hire a couple of elephants had completely passed him by. Once his house was sold, he would move up permanently. This led them both to decide to buy a house in Preston. Kayleigh had an initial six month tenancy on her terraced house, which would expire not long before the wedding and with both of them now increasing their salaries and John selling his house, which gave them a healthy deposit, the time felt right. John had mused that they were literally doing every stressful thing it was humanly possible to do, all at once and that at this rate they might just keel over before they made it up the aisle, "We'll die happy then!" was Kayleigh's view. Four months into their engagement they bought a new build semi in a quiet suburban development. They had moved in just in time for John to start his new job in Burnley.
The staff members were genuinely sad to see him leave but were happy that everything had worked out in the end for him and Kayleigh. They threw a huge leaving/engagement party for John, insisting that Kayleigh invite her new colleagues in Preston to the celebrations. Amid much back slapping and congratulations, Dave Thompson had sheepishly apologised for the "lipstick on a pig" comment and Litchy had telephoned to call him a "Sly old bugger and lament that he wished he'd stuck 50 quid on it". The only reluctant celebrant was Stink Ray. He still hadn't forgiven them for conning him out of a lift that day. It took Elsie with her cutthroat diplomacy to resolve the matter in the staff room, "Are you kiddin! I wouldn't let you near any motor a' mine! You stink like a North Sea trawler! It's about time somebody told you to get a bloody bath Captain Birdseye!" The room descended into an awkward silence. Then a male voice piped up, "You've gone nose blind mate!" leading to an outbreak of sniggering. Ray sniffed his sweater. If he was stunned by the revelation and his pride had been offended, he had to admit it did explain a lot....and Elsie's directness...wasn't entirely unappealing....By the evening of the party, it appeared to have had the desired effect. Ray wasn't exactly fragrant but as Elsie put it, he now smelt less like a trawler and now merely, "Whiffed like a two day old prawn soaked in Paco Rabanne". On the night, the gang from Fresh Face and John's colleagues from the Store, mingled well and before long the dance floor was full and the booze was flowing. A huge banner read
"❤Congratulations John & Kayleigh ❤"
Heart shaped helium balloons filled the room along with huge illuminated letters spelling out "LOVE". John had relished hitting the dance floor with Kayleigh as soon as Gloria Gaynor's, "I am what I am" came on, to laughter from them both. There was much ooh'ing and ahh'ing over the engagement ring. Alan Campbell had joked to John that they obviously paid him too much. Rachel couldn't resist snarking that her own preference would be for something more "subtle". Big Diane had seized her moment, "Let's see your diamond then Rachel". Sufficiently embarrassed, she'd promptly sloped off. "Jealousy's an ugly emotion", Joyce had pronounced sagely...before draining the remnants of her G&T through a straw with a loud gurgle. Kayleigh had forgotten how much fun her old colleagues could be. As the party drew to a close, the dance floor filled with couples smooching and swaying to Phil Collins cover of "Groovy Kind of Love". The sight of five foot two Joyce hanging off the neck of her six foot two Sumo wrestler husband, was one that would live long in the memory. John and Kayleigh had a cheeky snog but were soon spotted and a loud cheer went up, prompting John to bow and Kayleigh to curtsey to their audience. As the song came to an end, John nudged Kayleigh to look at one couple in particular, "Bloody Hell!" he whispered "There isn't enough mental Harpic for that one". Stink Ray and Elsie were getting up close and personal. It looked like Ray was on for a much needed bath and a half share in a Pot Noodle, before the night was out. Kayleigh giggled, "Maybe time we said our good nights eh?" "You always have the best ideas", he replied. They'd left to hugs, handshakes and kisses and were soon covered in confetti and streamers.
The next time they all met up, it was the wedding day. It had dawned crisp and bright. The low winter sun casting a warm glow on the frosty landscape as Kayleigh looked out from the hotel window. It was perfect. They'd lucked out in getting the venue, thanks to a cancellation. While Kayleigh had initially felt uncomfortable that they were benefitting from someone else's misfortune, John eventually persuaded her that it was simply serendipity. Her parents, her Matron of Honour Mandy, Maid of Honour Kelly and bridesmaids Chloe and Sophie, had joined her for her last night as a single woman. As her breakfast was delivered complete with a glass of Buck's Fizz, her Mum, Kelly and Mandy all appeared in the doorway, giving a hearty rendition of "She's getting married in the morning". Soon her room was a hive of activity, with her hairdresser Sue and her assistant Jordan and make-up artists Emma and Jo, new colleagues and friends from Fresh Face, busy getting everyone ready. Much of the conversation centred on the Hen Weekend and Kayleigh's determination to bring home her fully inflated male blow up doll, from Benidorm and the look on John's face when he'd picked her up from the airport to find her clutching it and wearing a sombrero. For some reason known only to Kayleigh she'd called him Ted 3, which she found hilarious and which her hens found mystifying. Much of the weekend was a blur but she did recall mucho tequila, a foam party, a Drag Queen, a stripper called "Magic Miguel", thinking that it was a good idea to attempt a rendition of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" in the middle of the street and waking up on a sun lounger at 6am. John also retained a voicemail she'd left for him on her last night, which informed him that she was "Fluffy Drunk" and that she would very much like to have "sexy time" with him. Before calling him her "Snuggle Bunny" and then informing him that she was going to be sick. She then promptly burst into tears because he wasn't there to hold her hair back. John's Stag had also not been without incident. Kayleigh had issued warnings that he was to come back in one piece...or else! They'd gone for an "experience day" karting, laser combat and pool. Kieron then led the troops which included Jim, Steve, Paul and Litchy, on an epic pub crawl. While John wasn't much of a drinker, his future brother in law had insisted on him partaking in a "Cheeky Vimto"...or two...or three...he'd lost count after that and consciousness soon afterwards. He'd woken up the following morning in Mandy's flower bed, holding a traffic cone, with a G-string on his head. Steve was asleep beside his bike, under the gazebo. Mandy had woken them both by pouring the contents of a watering can on their heads... after gathering some photographic evidence, of course. She later remarked to Kayleigh, "If it wasn't for Global Warming he'd have frozen his bits off. What use would he have been to you then!?" Recounting her observation to John, he replied, "Well, now there's an argument for climate change you don't often hear". By comparison, tonight's celebrations would be much more sedate.
John, his Mum, his Nana, his brother and best man Paul, his sister in law Angela, his groomsmen, Jim, Steve and Kieron and the two pageboys Ben and a very reluctant Alfie, stayed overnight at another hotel nearby. Alfie had been in a strop since the prospect of being a pageboy had first surfaced, six months before. If they'd hoped he'd settle into the idea, it hadn't worked. Lately he'd become belligerent to the point of rudeness. Something had to give. To Mandy's surprise and delight Steve had dusted off his parenting skills with their ever impossible son. He'd taken him aside, told him he was upsetting his Auntie Kayleigh and Uncle John with his behaviour and that he was seriously disappointing both him and his Mum. He thought he was raising a man, not a spoilt kid. John and Kayleigh had bought gifts for their bridesmaids and pages and if he persisted, he'd make sure he didn't get his. It would go to a kid who deserved it. Alfie was sufficiently chastised. He promptly apologised to John, who bought him a coke and said, "At least you're not wearing a sailor suit. I spared you that one buddy." Alfie smiled. Progress. Steve then called Kayleigh so that Alfie could apologise to her. Kayleigh accepted his apology and told him all would be forgiven if he promised her a dance at the reception. She'd even let him pick the song.
Kayleigh's natural superstition had extended to maintaining the tradition that it's "bad luck" to see the groom the night before the wedding. He'd called her just before she went to sleep though, to tell her how much he loved her and couldn't wait to be her husband. He also loved the watch she'd bought him as a wedding present. He had a surprise for her tomorrow. When she tried to get a clue he exclaimed, "You can't get round me that easily lady! Just wait and see…” She couldn't wait to be his wife. It wouldn't be long until they headed off on their Honeymoon. Two weeks, all-inclusive in Barbados. John's choice. She'd simply asked for "somewhere laid back and sunny". He'd toyed with the idea of a cruise but ruled it out due to Kayleigh's aquaphobia and his own qualms about the Norovirus. He'd arrived home with a cry of "Booked it!" then flashed the brochure. Kayleigh had squealed with delight...and rewarded him with a little "honeymoon rehearsal". They'd soon be lying on a beach sipping cocktails...or in John's case mocktails, as husband and wife. Their special day was finally here.
As the groom and his entourage began to arrive downstairs, Chloe and Sophie twirled in their pretty bridesmaids dresses. Mandy and Kelly meanwhile, put the finishing touches to their look, midnight blue, full length gowns, as Kayleigh slipped into the wedding dress she'd spent so long dreaming of. It was lace and silk, with a tight, hidden bodice, three quarter length sleeves and a full skirt. It was finished off with a full length veil. Her something blue was a garter from Kelly, her something borrowed were diamond and pearl earrings from her Mum. Her something old was a broach that belonged to John's Nana, Rose and one from her own late Nana, which were in her bouquet. Mandy handed her, her something new. It had arrived that morning from John. His surprise. A beautiful, simple diamond tennis bracelet. Stopping the tears was going to be impossible today, it seemed.
Chloe and Sophie clapped and cheered as Kayleigh's Mum Sal, John's Mum Evelyn, who couldn't resist a peak and a good luck kiss, Mandy and Kelly, all tried not to cry and ruin their make-up, when Kayleigh emerged from her room. Kelly handed her, her bouquet and with a kiss from her Mum and her bridesmaids, Mandy placed the veil over her sister's face and she made her way towards her Dad who was waiting for her at the top of the stairs. He too was emotional when he saw her. They had a final, quiet moment, when he told he was so proud of her, that she looked like a Princess and that John was the luckiest man in the world. With both their Mum's now seated downstairs with the guests, the sound of the string quartet playing Paschelbel's Canon in D, was her cue and she wasn't going to miss it. John's Mum had mouthed "She looks beautiful" to her nervous son. He'd been pacing like a caged animal and must have asked his brother twenty times, if he had the rings. On the last occasion Paul had feigned panic but the look of anxiety on his brother's face was such that he feared he might just have a heart attack, so he caved and produced them for inspection yet again. "For God sake calm down man! You're gonna pass out at this rate". "I know. I just want it to be right". "It won't be if you're in A&E". The moment he saw his bride though, he became totally calm. She had that effect on him. He felt completely at peace with the world. She really was the thing that completed him. Everything felt wrong without her and with her, it was perfect. She was the most beautiful vision he'd ever beheld and her smile lit up the room. He knew he was grinning like an idiot but he didn't care. He couldn't take his eyes off her. When she reached his side she'd said, "Hello handsome. Fancy seeing you here." He'd smiled and whispered back, "Hello beautiful. I wouldn't miss it for the world". They exchanged their vows in front of their family and friends. Every one of whom felt certain that this was one marriage that was definitely for keeps. There was a chorus of clapping and cheering as they were pronounced husband and wife and the new Mr & Mrs John Redmond, sealed the deal with a kiss. After signing the register and posing for photographs with their bridal party, the bride and groom walked down the aisle to Beethoven's Ode to Joy. As congratulations flowed and the guests mingled and enjoyed champagne and canapés to the strains of the string quartet playing an assortment of classical and modern pieces, including John noted, an instrumental version of "Runaway", the newlyweds and their families continued their photo session. Finally, the formalities completed, the guests were seated for the reception. Having abandoned her veil Kayleigh and John let it be known that it was now party time! The Master of ceremonies announced them and they entered hand in hand to the sound of The Black Eyed Peas "Let's Get it Started". So began the party of their lives.
After a four course slap up meal, "This definitely wacks a Fat Boy!" as John rightly observed, mid profiterole, the speeches began. Paul had the guests in stitches recalling their childhood exploits, with subtle references to John's previous dating disasters. He kept it...mostly clean, complimented Kayleigh, thanked the bridesmaids and pages, gave them their gifts from the bride and groom and received a huge cheer as he toasted the happy couple and resumed his seat. Mandy and Kelly were delighted with their necklaces with a heart shaped pendant engraved with the date and Chloe and Sophie loved their little charm bracelets with a heart charm, their initial and a little bride and groom. Ben and Alfie's eyes lit up when they were given wireless headphones and promptly disappeared to hook them up to their phones. Kayleigh's Dad then said a few words, speaking lovingly about Kayleigh and welcoming John to the family. John's Mum spoke briefly but movingly about her son and the happiness Kayleigh had brought to his life. Everyone was in tears as she told her son how proud his father would be of him. John thanked his Mum and kissed her. He then gave his own speech. Beginning with the customary "My wife and I" which elicited yet more cheering. He thanked Cath Hilton for initiating the Car Share scheme, which brought Kayleigh Kitson..."sorry Kayleigh Redmond"...into his life. He spoke of the joy he had found in her and of his own amazement that she loved him and that he was now a married man. He and Kayleigh then gave a gift of necklaces with pearl drop pendants to their respective mothers in law. John's gift card thanking Sal for raising the love of his life and Kayleigh's thanking Evelyn for raising the man of her dreams. John then proposed a toast to his wife Kayleigh Redmond and another to their Mums. Kayleigh stood briefly to say a few words to her Dad and give him his gift, a silver tankard engraved with "Father of the Bride" and the date of the wedding. John also gave him a voucher from the Shed Surgery. He'd long held the dream of a little sanctuary at the bottom of the garden. Kayleigh then thanked everyone and hoped that after they cut the cake, they would stay and party in the New Year with them. They didn't need to be asked twice.
Cake cutting done and yet more photos taken, they were finally ready to dance the night away. John was anticipating the Corrs as he led Kayleigh out for their first dance. He honestly didn't mind...if it was what she wanted, he could live with it. Instead, the glorious voice of Gladys Knight filled the room singing, "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me". Kayleigh whispered, "Listen to the words John". She sang along as she rested her head on his shoulder. John could feel himself tearing up and did his best to keep it together. "It's just perfect, isn't it?" she said as she kissed him. "Yeah. It really is", he replied as he held her tighter. They were joined on the dance floor by Kayleigh's Mum and Dad and John's Mum and Paul, as Eric Clapton sang "Wonderful Tonight". John then danced with his Mum and Kayleigh with her Dad, to The Commodores "Three Times A Lady". The DJ then announced that it was time to pick up the pace and really get this party started as Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" came belting through the speakers. By now the dance floor was rammed with family, friends and colleagues who'd joined them for the "evening do". John had lifted Kayleigh up and was spinning her around as they yelled out "Whaaa Hooo!" at the appropriate moment. By the time they were midway through a Bee Gees Medley, John's jacket and tie had been discarded and Kayleigh was in a pair of flat glittery ballet pumps she'd bought for her and her bridesmaids, expressly for dancing. They tore it up through a Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 Medley, "Red Light Spells Danger" and "Uptown Funk", before the need for hydration drove them off the floor. A fish and chip van arrived not long after 9pm and along with a chocolate fountain, retro sweets and a candy floss machine, young and old were well and truly catered for. Van Morrisons "Brown Eyed Girl" got them back on the floor and Kayleigh got her dance with Alfie to Pharrell Williams, "Happy". Rob Vegas singing "Ho Hey (You're My Sweetheart)" got everyone singing along as did "Sweet Caroline". The Kitsons, the Prices and the Redmonds all got up to Sister Sledge's "We are Family" and one of the moments of the night came when John and his Mum danced to Eddie Cochrane's "Three Steps to Heaven", the significance known only to them and to Paul, Kayleigh and Angela. Then to everyone's delight John and Jim aka "Compendium" took to the stage. John dedicated "In The City" to Kayleigh and she joined them on stage in a pink Stetson and clutching a tambourine, for "Cotton Eye Joe". Line dancing with gusto, were Joyce Chung, Big Diane, Cath Hilton and Elsie, fresh from being issued with what she was told in no uncertain terms, was absolutely her final written warning. In a treat for his niece, Sophie finally got to finish her performance of "Let it Go", to a huge cheer. Then, in a moment John knew nothing about, Kayleigh's Dad Tommy, Jim, Steve, Kieron and Paul all took to the stage to sing Danny Boy. It had always been John's Dad's favourite song. The guests joined in too. As they finished and Tommy toasted 'To Absent Friends", any hope of preventing the tears from falling, was gone. Kayleigh hugged John and Evelyn, as the DJ announced that midnight was fast approaching.
As the clock struck 12, balloons fell from the ceiling, party poppers, champagne corks and steamers exploded in a mass of colour and delighted cheers. In a sea of hugs and kisses, John and Kayleigh wished each other a "Happy New Year", the first one of their married lives. Old Langs Syne then gave way to Prince and "1999". As John and Kayleigh danced, he spotted his Mum chatting with Bernard from her bowling club. He'd just kissed his Mum's hand, John was stunned, "Ey! Did you just see that! That's not right...that's out of order that is!" Kayleigh reached up and put her hands on either side of John's cheeks, forcing him to look at her and said, "Let her be. Let her be happy. Time's not a good thing to waste John". He knew she was right....but he still couldn't resisted keeping and eye on the pair when Kayleigh wasn't looking. As Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" played in the background, Kayleigh threw her bouquet into the crowd. Or rather, a replica of it. She had plans for the original. As Kelly, Emma, and Jo lined up with Kieran's girlfriend Gemma, Elsie mounted a charge-down that the British and Irish Lions would have been proud of and which left her face down on the floor and holding the bouquet in the air before declaring, "Gotcha! Ya frigger!" As the other women were knocked sideways like skittles, Elsie was surrounded by guests with gaping mouths. "Bloody Hellfire" John exclaimed. "Jeeesus!" laughed Steve, as Ben and Alfie were bent double with hysteria and a stunned Kayleigh muttered, "Frigadig" while surveying the scene and checking for any walking wounded. Fortunately they'd only been winded by the encounter. The evening was coming to an end. Hearsay's "Pure and Simple" and Kayleigh's favourite song, Take That's, "Never Forget" got everyone back on the floor. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, "I've had the Time of My Life", resulted in the now customary sight of intoxicated blokes, trying desperately to hoist aloft equally intoxicated women, with varying degrees of success. Steve's cry of "Aw, Christ Mand! I think I've done a bloody disc!" summed it up perfectly. After attempting a lift, which left Kayleigh shrieking halfway over his shoulder and his hands in places he'd rather keep in the confines of the bedroom, John had settled for simply spinning her around. Even that was somewhat ill-advised, after a full night of food, Champagne and Prosecco. Sinatra's version of "New York, New York" finished off the celebrations with a rousing sing along. It was almost 3 am and time to call it a night, or rather morning. John and Kayleigh wished their remaining guests goodnight as they headed up to the Wedding Suite. Thanking their lucky stars that their flight wasn't until 6pm the next day, they had breakfast in bed to look forward to and a 1pm late check out. John had carried Kayleigh over the threshold of their room to their mutual laughter. The bed was decorated with rose petals and a bottle of champagne was on ice. They contemplated the scene for a few seconds then both collapsed on the bed. They were exhausted...although John did manage to find some not inconsiderable energy from somewhere when he saw what Kayleigh had on underneath that dress.....That late check out really was a blessing....
They finally joined their family members the following morning just before midday, in time for a light lunch and for Kayleigh to ensure that their wedding attire and bits and pieces were safely packed into Mandy's Citroen. Also, for John to put their honeymoon luggage into his car for the journey to the airport...that was, after he took in the state of the little Fiat...Ribbons and streamers were attached to the windows and mirrors and a "Just Married" sign was attached to the back, with a J and K and a huge heart along with tin cans, shoes, boots and lucky horseshoes that were all hanging down from beneath the rear bumper. Steve, smelling faintly of Ralgex Heat Spray after his Patrick Swayze exertions the night before, Paul, Jim, Ben and Alfie, were delighted with their handiwork. They said their goodbyes just after 1pm amid congratulations, hugs, kisses and yet more tears. They were pelted with Confetti, rice and rose petals as they got into the Fiat and rattled their way down the driveway, waving and beeping the horn as they went. They reached their first destination after a thirty minute drive. They both got out of the Fiat and walked a short distance, before John said, "Here it is. This is it." Kayleigh looked down then smiled softly at John. "Well Dad, here she is. This is Kayleigh. My Kayleigh. My wife." "...and this is for you", Kayleigh added, as she crouched down and placed her bouquet on the grave. "He really would have loved you, ya know. He would have thought I was one lucky beggar...and he would've been right." Kayleigh kissed him gently. "I owe him a lot. He was partly responsible for giving me you." "Oh don't hold that against him", John quipped. "I'll be grateful to him for the rest of my life". They stood in silence for a moment, Kayleigh wrapping her arms tightly around John's arm. "He was a good man Kayleigh. A good husband and a good father. I want to be those things too". "And you will be". "You seem very sure". "Oh I am sure. I'm not sure about a lot of things mind but I'm absolutely certain about you". "I love you, Mrs Redmond". "I love you too", she smiled. "It's getting cold...let's go huh?" They slowly walked back to their car. As John started the engine he looked at Kayleigh, smiled and sang, "We're going to Barbados". Kayleigh laughed, then looking at him said, "Do I make you happy John Redmond?" He looked back at her for a second, remembering a long ago night and a missed opportunity...how things had changed, "Yeah...yeah you do...very much...Kayleigh Redmond". They kissed and John started the car. Drifting out of the radio from Forever FM, was an old familiar song, Jimmy Cliff singing, "I Can See Clearly Now". Kayleigh said with delight and an excited squeal, "Ooh, I love this song!" as she reached forward to turn it up. "Me too". John smiled. As they set off they began to sing along....
"I can see clearly now, the rain is gone"
"I can see all obstacles in my way"
"Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind"
"It's gonna be a bright, bright, sun-shiny day"
"I think I can make it now the pain is gone"
"All of the bad feelings have disappeared"
"Here is that rainbow I've been praying for"
"It's gonna be a bright, bright sun-shiny day"
"Look all around, nothing but blue skies......"
Their voices slowly faded out as the little red car drove out of sight and a whole new journey had just begun.........Tomorrow would be a very good day.
