my mini essay about how much i love haikyu bc i need to express it pls

oh gosh idk what’s come over me but i could not be happier honestly.

after watching the dumpster battle move in theaters last month, i feel like ive been thrown into a full fledged haikyu phase that i missed out on both in 2020 (but it’s fine i heard it was also horrid at times during this, but lowkey looked fun LOL) and when i watched it for the first time in 2021 (ik im a little late to the game… don’t remind me)

when i watched it for the first time, i obviously loved it. but it’s hitting so much harder now—how im both reading the manga from volume 1 to rewatching the series (loosely) side by side. and i rarely rewatch anime’s unless it’s casual random ep (i.e ohshc or hxh for me hehe)

something about it this time means so much more. haikyu gets me so excited, hyped, happy, and so emotional. i don’t even play volleyball, but i do love the sport! yet it makes me feel like i can fly too 😭😭 i wish i was able to witness this series during its first release (i would’ve been in middle school!!) and i feel like it would hit so hard to grow up with them and the series 🥹 but it’s okay—timing is everything. even 3 years is a while already too.

but i’m so glad to have haikyu rekindle this spirit of excitement and motivation in my life right now. the story. the characters. how they all grow and develop and improve. and the themes about teamwork, believing in yourself, passions, hard work, everything in between just reminds me and teaches me so much in my own life too. i could go on and on but this is only a mini essay after all haha. i just love it so much.

thank u furudate for creating such a masterpiece. this piece of work changed the world and so many lives. even mine. and ik this might sound corny but idc. i really do love haikyu and what it means to me. everything about it, it makes me want to live that way too—to go after my dreams and believe in myself and cultivate my passions and work hard and find a community and live my life the way i want. so simple but powerful at the same time.

it makes me sad that the manga is over and we’ll only be getting another movie (literally robbing us…. i’m still manifesting for a new season idc idc i’m in denial) but i know haikyu is always there for me whenever i need it. and look, i can rewatch it, reread it over and over again. bc the spirit of haikyu goes on forever always!! we keep on flying higher!!!

Glorious Masquerade has got to be my favorite TWST event!!!! Love to see people hype it up!!! It just felt so extravagant and huge… literally EVERY character was serving. Idia in particular 👀 also I think part of why it was so good had to do with the timing, the fact it came right before chapter 7 and the contests of the event were actually REALLY pertinent in the main story…

I kinda doubt this year’s halloween event will be AS impressive but I hope it comes close to it. It has the potential!! But GM is so iconic. I’m really looking forward to the Pinocchio theme. Just think of Grim’s new little outfit 🥺

No cause I'm sure they timed the first release of book 7 right after masquerade so the event could foreshadow the main story, like how Rollo says Malleus is a villain that will bring calamity (I don't remember the exact words but it was something like that lol)

THIS EVENT WAS MOSTLY TAILORED TO MALLEUS AND IDIA AND IT SHOWS, I remember that before Rollo's motive was revealed, I was theorizing if Rollo was also inspired on musical-Frollo and not just the dsny Frollo, where he has a deceased younger brother. And I was like ''if that's the case, it makes even more sense why Idia would be the SSR; he's the only one who can trully relate and understand Rollo's pain'' AND I WAS RIGHT 👏👏👏 LET ME COOK

For that reason is why I think GloMas wouldn't work if it had a sequel like the first halloween event of it were a if/remix version like fairy gala but with the other rest of the cast; Malleus is simply too crucial for this event, Rollo's motive wouldn't make sense without him. I admit I'm a bit sad that we won't see the other boys in the masquerade outfits and them interacting with Rollo (I wanted to see Ace clown on Rollo </3) but honestly this is for the best... They're getting an entire new event with new characters just for themselves!! I'd say this is a better outcome than just repeating GloMas all over again with the other half of the cast, it just wouldn't be impactful.

I'm not emotionally attached to Pinnocchio as I am with THoND but I'm excited because this movie is DARK AS HELL, and it's PERFECT for a halloween event. Also I've been waiting years for new beastmen characters and we are getting a fOX BOY RIGHT OFF THE BAT....GRRRRRrrRR *foams at the mouth*

I can't wait for the trailer of the new event, if they really are wearing carnival inspired outfits I'm gonna be BALLISTIC!!! And let's hope every new halloween event from now on will be based in a dsny movie with new guest characters every time 😳 I'm hoping for a Peter Pan event next cause WE GOTTA SEE TWST CAPTAIN HOOK?!?!?

I can't remember where bpwf was first released and the order of its premiere in each country but it's interesting to see that the majority of fandom [who participated at least] are from North America. Also Asia being the third highest group was fascinating because at least when it comes to Twitter, I’ve noticed a lot of the Namor/Shuri fan art has come from Thai and Korean artists. They are seriously carrying this fandom and I'm here for all of it.

ALSO: Random, but where are my Antarctica Nashuri fans?? 😭 I’m also curious to know how Africa has received the Black Panther franchise all together over the years. Do they resonate with it? Do they find it offensive/ overly dramatized? I’m curious. If you are a fan who lives in Africa, can you comment on your experience with this? I'd be happy to know.

To be honest, I’ve always assumed that the Marvel fandom [along with superhero spaces as a whole like DC and what not] were male dominated but this poll gave me some hope. I am curious what parts of fandom men frequent more vs women. For example, do Comic Cons ring in more women, more men, half and half? With fan art, do majority of artists identify as women, men, other? It’s interesting to think about. I also love seeing women/fem identifying individuals show up in these spaces because countless times we are made to feel like an inposter and harassed for our interests in comics, games, movies, shows, music, the list goes on. Questioned down with trivia, fact checking and all sorts of BS ultimately trying to prove that “you aren't a real fan". Don't ever let anyone make you feel like you have to prove your knowledge of anything to be interested in something you like. ESPECIALLY if it is coming from a man child guy.

It’s amazing to see how diverse this fandom is! I didn’t expect that we would have such high numbers of black/brown fans/shippers. As a black mcu fan myself, it’s exciting to see us show up in fandom. Fandom has unfortunately been heavily white/Eurocentric for a very long time, which has slowly changed but we still have a long ways to go in it’s inclusivity. With the increase of bipoc characters and the actors who play them, I look forward to this continual progression.

ALSO: It’s been heartwarming to witness Mexican, Indigenous, Lantix fans feel seen with bpwf and Tenoch, Mabel and Alex's performances! I remember how enamored the black community was with Chadwick and the first BP. We were hyped to have this treasure of a movie, which I assume is similar to how the Asian community felt with Shang-Chi and so on. It's been said countless times before but representation truly makes the world of a difference and the power of the bipoc dollar should never be taken lightly. We cause real change when we support something.

There will always be a spectrum of ages in any fandom but I figured the majority of people were probably within this age range. It may be due to the timeline of when the mcu was born and how it has progressed alongside millennials? This also explains why I keep seeing fans make posts about their age gaps with Tenoch and wanting to be his questionably young gf 😩 [get in line]

Okay *inhales exhales* I know I'm going to get flak for this but let's hop into it lol I saw the scale sway back and forth for a minute but it mostly stayed between White Wolf [Bucky Barnes] and Iron Heart [Riri Williams]. I myself personally love both answers! My annoyance is not with shuriri, but with its fandom. They have been some of the biggest instigators/bullies since bpwf has dropped. I've seen all kinds of mental gymnastics from saying the nashuri fandom would rather see shuri with a killer than support gay love [like what??] to Letitia is clearly lesbian because of her attire [pls be fr] and everything in between. It’s so unwarranted and I never see Nashuri fans doing the same thing back. Enjoy what you like, and leave the rest behind. It's such an easy 1+1=2 concept and yet, it goes over people's head still. It’s honestly disappointing when a fandom turns you off to a ship/character, especially when the ship is lowkey dope. Something that reminds me of this was the stucky fandom when the Captain America movies came out. Y’all.......when I tell you this fandom had me STRESSED 🥴. I saw racism/ deliberate exclusion of Sam, hate towards Sharon Carter just because she was a woman, you name it. They annoyed me so bad that I began to dislike Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers as characters [trust me, it made no sense lol] I couldn’t stand seeing either one of their names pop up. It took some of the Avenger movies [and honestly the sambucky fandom + Sebastian Stan/ Anthony Mackie's friendship] coming out years later for me to even be remotely cool with the idea of Bucky Barnes again. Anyways *drinks water* I'm getting stressed all over again just thinking about it lmao Long story short, don’t be an asshole. Enjoy YOUR flavor of ice cream and try not to shit on others and their differing flavor of choice in the process. Trust me, it's easier than you think.

Crying that the #1 answer was “Bitch me!” because honestly mood. Jokes aside, I can’t really imagine Namor with another partner. It's probably largely due to the fact that Shuri was the main character we see him interact + bring his guard down with [outside of Namora?] This is also coming from someone who has not read the Namor comics and am very new to him as a character. ALSO: I threw in the Sue Storm comment to be annoying *teehee* but it was interesting to see how many people actually agreed with this statement. Maybe I'm just a horse with blinders about this fandom but I’m not really pressed? I’ve seen people argue that Ryan's current iteration of the Namor character wouldn't be in this type of relationship [along with people saying Tenoch wouldn’t go for it either] but I guess we'll just have to wait and see what unfolds *tries not to stress while we wait for future iterations of Namor and the fate of his character's arc/ Talokan*

The question on everyone’s mind! Although the delusional side of me was bummed that yall weren't more chaotic and went full "yes!", my logical side agrees with the final poll 🥲. Again, I'm not pressed about mcu and what they put out, whether it favors this ship or not. At the end of the day, I’m still going to vibe like I’ve been doing. If nothing else, I just hope we get to see these two characters and their rich dynamic again because Marvel can't ignore how the world reacted to Shuri and Namor. And hey, sometimes Marvel listens! It was cool seeing what other protagonists this fandom is drawn to outside of Shuri/Black Panther. This one cracks me up [and yes I had too much fun making these summaries which I find highly accurate] Also, I have no beef with any of these characters btw 😅 I truly believe that a hero is only as interesting as their counterpart. If your villain isn't captivating, it takes away from the hero + their storytelling potential and vice versa. The poll was split between Killmonger and Namor at one point [which if these two ever met/ were on screen together like ??? They have free reign to completely destroy my life. I welcome all calamity that ensues.] I'm not going to survive Namor and Kang in the same film this coming Avengers: Kang Dynasty movie.

ALSO: I didn't choose him but Thanos has been one of the most impactful/ compelling villains we’ve seen in the mcu thus far. I’ve been bitching about this a lot this year; like with cardi. I ain’t agree with all of cardi’s meltdowns this year, but sis got pregnant and couldn’t even have a happy announcement because yall caught her man cheating and wanted to dunk on her while she worked through that all while complaining about an album release after yall upended her entire life. I’d wanna cuss yall out too lol.

You all are so fucking weird and don’t know how to be normal with celebs. Not for nothing, that’s why I’m not buying the hype around chapel and sabrina and whatever other mediocre white girl yall are claiming is saving pop rn. Because yall aren’t normal fans. If you were, you’d look at these artists as such and judge them according (and agree with me how mediocre they are lol), but instead they wear makeup or say something snarky in an interview so you have to pretend their music justified obsessing over them because you can’t just say “I like that celebs’ attitude” and move on. You don’t have to “stan” them just because you like them.

Like I jokingly call myself the worst fan ever because I’ll be a MAJOR fan of someone and not know shit about them. I LOVE how little I know about celebs I’ll say I love. I found out this year Margot Robbie is Australian! Had no idea! I don’t watch interviews because i genuinely believe that 98% of celebs have nothing of value to say and so they bore me. Always have, always will; so I never heard her regular accent! I was also however old I was last year when I found out Hugh jackman is Australian too! Again, never heard that man speak outside of a movie (why would I? lol)! Is this celeb’s parents still alive? Do they have siblings? If said siblings aren’t famous too, I have no idea! I learned this past week Kamala Harris has a sister (lol). I learned this year that Olivia Rodrigo (not a fan but I’m counting this) isn’t Latina, but Filipina I see a vaguely brown/white passing girl with a name like Olivia Rodrigo from Cali, why the fuck would I assume otherwise? You think I’m going to look her up to see? Why? I don’t care lol. Do you do your thing well? Do I like it? That’s all I need to know. Fuck the less I know the better. Knowing about Beyonce taking jay back after that nigga cheated is why no one could take her Jolene “cover” seriously. The less we know about celebs the better! Truly!

But these kids think cyberstalking their faves is normal. I was a huge fan of lady Gaga back in the day to the point that I was workshopping “little monster” tattoos because I wanted to immortalize her on my body somehow. If I didn’t get keloids (idk if I’d keloid from a tattoo but I don’t even want to fuck around and find out; that’s how I got the one on my ear from my ear piercing), I’d likely have that tattoo! And I literally cannot tell you a single thing about her life other than she’s short like me, and her real name is Stefani G-something Italian. Aside form that, idk. Siblings? Interests outside of music and fashion? Her real personality? Couldn’t tell you shit. I just love Born This Way: that album was a cultural reset and her magnum opus. I’ll never get over that album. NEVER!

And that’s all we should be caring about. All this extra shit is weird. Like I go into Conan Gray’s tag because I’m literally obsessed with his Found Heaven album, and I see kids writing fanfiction. About a 25 year old man who’s been releasing music since he was a teen and who is a real person and not some fictional character created by someone actually creative. Like idc who gets offended by this, but the second that fanfiction about real life people become common and normalized (TO THE POINT THAT ENTIRE BOOK SERIES AND NETFLIX MOVIES HAVE BEEN CREATED FROM ONE DIRECTION FANFICS), we’ve lost the plot of celebrity-ism.

These celebs are our monkeys. They dance and sing and act and look nice for us so we have something to keep us entertained. This, by the way, is why it’s imperative they’re actually GOOD and TALENTED at their craft: because I can go to a zoo to see a monkey just sitting there scratching its ass. If I’m going to spend money on a monkey and tolerate it being worth millions of dollars more than me, it better be able to do something i sure as hell couldn’t do myself. But the point is they’re performers. They are here to keep us entertained. If you can’t enjoy their work and maybe just make some stickers and buy some merch to feel close (I’m literally sleeping in a cut up, oversized Conan Gray concert shirt rn lol) and like some posts on ig and move on, you need help. Like literal and serious help.

And stop normalizing that shit! Celebs are allowed privacy! Stop stalking them, then finding out shit about them, sharing it publicly, and then getting mad when that celeb snaps at you! Stop trying to catch their partners cheating. Stop speculating if they’re pregnant. Stop looking into their families. Fucking leave these fucking celebrities alone. currently reading: thg resurgence so i’m reading the ballad of songbirds and snakes, i didn’t get to finish it before watching the movie and i keep getting caught up so it’s taking forever to finish, but im almost done w it

last thing researched for art/writing: i haven’t full-fledged written for fandom in probably years. but i used to research a lot of fighting techniques cause i was deep in the my hero academia brain rot LMFAO

fav online fandom memory: i mostly inhabited twitter fandom spaces so in 2020 i was placed in a ship gc and i met one of my best friends on there <3 so i think that would be it

fav old fandom you wish would have a resurgence: the show is quite shit and not good at all but, for nostalgia reasons, i would love to see fairy tail (anime) have a resurgence. i bet the fics would be soooo top tier compared to when i was like 9 and reading fics on wattpad and ffnet

OK so I’m gonna just talk about Goldenloin for a bit because Sir Fucksalot has given me many thoughts about life and shit

some background: I started out reading the Nimona comic, and was super hyped when the movie got released. I’m Korean, living in North America, and also queer and genderfucked which is probably relevant to this

ANYWAY

A lot of people have talked about the Model Minority Myth so far, but I wanted to talk about something else: Specifically, his complicity in other’s oppression, and how he uses his lack of choice in his privilege to justify his actions.

In that one scene: “A direct descendant of Gloreth? I never asked for that!” He’s actually really accurately portraying a lot of the conflicting feelings about being both privileged and Asian: It’s the recurring thought I’ve had so many times:

“Look: The only reason why I have this privilege in society is because of my parents’ horrible amounts of pressure, and the pressure their parents put on them, in order to not get literally crushed by it: I never asked for that! Why should I care if other POC are suffering?” 

It’s about knowing that your position is horrible, and comes with thousands of sacrifices (especially when you consider the subtext that he’s had to hide his relationship with Boldheart from the media), but not being able to use that for the process of liberation?.

It’s about ignoring all of the ways in which you’re still not allowed to live freely (the poverty rates for queer Asian folx, the rates of suicide, the rates of illness, abuse).

It’s a constant struggle for me to avoid that train of thought: The “I don’t care,” the “it’s not my fault, because I never asked to live here,” the “What could I possibly do?” the “I better stay with this Institution, then, and not try to run away” 

So in a way it was nice to see that, in the end, he (sorta) stood up for other people, himself and his values? Or something? I don’t know?

(Lol I do think that they absolutely fucked up his character growth in the end: They should have had a more coherent theme for his actions near the end of the movie, but I still love this character... With the sun shining brightly, we went to a small store called "Step in Time" as recommended by the guidebook.

But when we got to the store, we met with a long queue of people.

MC: Isn't this store too popular…

I said that as I took a big step and hurried to the end of the line. Lucien stood behind me and reached out to lift my hair that was caught in my scarf.

Lucien: The store's AI technology is really attractive, according to the brochure.

Lucien: Using the keywords, descriptions, and personal characteristics entered by the participant, a simulation of their image from ten years ago can be generated.

Lucien: Then you can have a dialogue with yourself from 10 years ago

Lucien: I think this is a surreal experience that most people wouldn't want to miss.

I can't help but imagine myself and Lucien ten years ago, and I curiously tilted my head.

MC: If their AI technology can achieve this effect, it is worth looking forward to it.

MC: However…

I glanced at the long, endless line and angrily raised my fist.

MC: If it is over-hyped, I have to make an honest evaluation and defend the rights of consumers!

Lucien: The Great Producer has spoken, so how can I, as the program consultant not help?

Lucien: When the time comes, we will work together and strive to make them speechless.

Seeing that Lucien agreed with me in a good mood, I also smiled at him.

We finally entered the store just as the sun was about to fall into the horizon.

The clerk led us into a graphite-colored room with cube machines in the center, which reminded me of the technology that often appears in science fiction movies.

As I was thinking about it, "Lucien" slowly blinked his eyes.

Young Lucien: Hello.

I couldn't help but smile as his youthful voice fell on my ears.

He softly read my name. His deep eyes lit up a little.

Young Lucien: So, are you someone I'll meet in the future?

I’m gonna be real with you, I have never watched a Nintendo Direct in my life. I did hear about them finally announcing the sequel to Breath of the Wild though and if Sidon is in it I will never shut up about it.

Doctor Who is already on my list of series I don’t write for. I have a feeling if I had a normal exposure to Buffy the Vampire Slayer that I would enjoy it, however, the only times I ever caught it on TV the absolute worst/darkest episodes were on. One was an episode where Buffy was in a psych ward because they were doing a whole thing where her life as a vampire slayer was all in her head or some shit. And the other episode I saw had a vampire that ate skin and he would skin his victims alive and I remember him using his sharp nail to cut a slice of skin off his victim and it fucked me up. So, yeah, I never wanted to watch Buffy atter that lol. So no Buffy either.

Eh, probably not. I mean, I watched the first season on Netflix and I enjoyed it but it also didn’t stick with me enough for me to remember anyone’s names. So unless another season releases where it is easily accessible for me to watch it and I am SUPER into it then probably not anytime soon.

I caught up with blue lock! Right before S2’s release! First ep was cool and the animation is pretty good, I hope it won’t turn bad half way though like in S1… I mean considering how popular it became, there should be a higher budget right? 😭

There’s so many new characters being introduced and while I’m excited to see what they’ll do, I’m also sad Nagi’s impact would be diluted now :’)

Still hype for him though, that he’s retaining his “prodigy” status being the top 6 and all. I wanna see more of his feats, they’re always so hype and impressive. His goals and moves are prob the most unrealistic ones in the series?? But that’s why it’s so impressive?? While rewatching S1, I got reminded why I like him so much. His shots and improvements/awakenings/evolutions are always just on another level? And he only started playing for barely 6 months!! 😭

I feel like during my first watch, I ranked him slightly behind Isagi because Isagi’s badass moments were just way too hype, especially with the buildup for his key moments, and the contrast between his mild off -court personality vs his trash talking, domineering on-court one lol. But now I think Nagi’s got an edge. He too has his “moe gap” between his default, childish, lazy genius self, and his serious egoistic self. Also him effortlessly evolving and performing out of this world feats is just too good to watch. Truly in his own prodigy tier. Though seeing the later spoilers, I wouldn’t be surprised if I revert back to Isagi. I don’t mind just ranking both as favs at this point ;-;

And I managed to squeeze in watching Episode Nagi the movie too! That contributed quite a bit to liking Nagi more, but not just him, its Reo and their relationship too :’)

Reo is just… so precious… Such a loyal (boy)friend ;-; I wanna see them improve separately yet also see them falling deeper into their codependency hell lol. From what I’ve read of spoilers, they seemed to have both regressed and are sticking to each other again?? Reo managed to drag himself out of it once after Nagi abandoned him, but Nagi went back to him for help?? And since Reo’s weak to him, he gave in?? Even Isagi called their whole deal some “teenage drama” he’s so savage 😭

I’ve read some interesting fan analysis on how Nagi (and Reo) could be the antithesis to Bluelock/Isagi. And like it’s so true? Isagi was the first to run towards Bluelock, Nagi was the last and not without a lot of pushing and prodding by Reo and even Ego himself. Isagi is full of egoism, and entirely embraces Ego’s words to grow into a full-fledged egoistic striker. Nagi, while an egoist himself, tends to kill off his ego during critical moments, and has a hard time finding his motivations and sense of self.

And even when all the other characters started “awakening”, Nagi’s was characterised as “curiosity” rather than any sort of ego. It just seems like his journey in Bluelock is the complete opposite of Isagi’s or the expected way. His seems more like finding and understanding his ego/motivation, a more personal journey rather than the “defeat everyone else through being the biggest egoist so that you can be the best striker” way Ego wants. Definitely a more personal discovery journey than the devour everyone around you route lol.

Even in his movie, Nagi (and Reo) stated right from the start they wanna do this together despite Ego’s “inspiring egoistic” speech. They still made a promise right in front of Ego that they’ll stay with each other to the end. Reo himself said his “ego” would be to make Nagi into the best striker rather than be the best himself. Ego, weirdly, didn’t comment. I think he knows they represent an alternative way to success, one that he wouldn’t want to entirely dismiss even if it’s not the method he prefers? But it does seem like narratively, at least for now, them sticking together is doing more harm than good… But it could really go either way, not sure if I wanna see them proving Ego wrong lol. Though I feel like Nagi being the only character to have his own spin off series means that his narrative and what his character stands for should be more significant…

Either way, imagery, symbolism, and technique-wise, Nagi is also the opposite of Isagi. Isagi with his “bringing light to the field”, and all his forward momentum and direct shots, Nagi with his skull and death imagery meant to symbolise killing off the ball’s momentum (since his talent lies in trapping/controlling the ball)…

It’s not exactly light and dark cause that applies more to Isagi and Barou. And it’s not exactly life and death too because Nagi himself embodies that dynamic. His style can either “breathe life to the ball” or “kill it” by trapping it. There’s really a lot of death and skull imagery for Nagi, I’m wondering if his story’s gonna involve themes of “ego death” or something. I kinda have some theories on how his story would unfold but I also think it’s too far fetched so we’ll see 🤡

I’ve also started reading the manga and damn is it hype. I’m almost reaching where the anime is but I’m wavering between reading ahead or not??? Because from my experience with oshi no ko, reading ahead seemed to take away my enjoyment of the anime since I would always be comparing….

Gotta start on the Episode Nagi manga too…. I’m so happy so much love is given to Nagi and I’m glad he’s one of my favs 😭 I’ve read somewhere the author also really favours Nagi (explains the spin off), and so it would make sense to like him so much right?? Since more love and attention are given to create this character, you as a reader would pick up on it right??? From what I’ve read from others, his spin off focuses more on his inner thoughts and relationships, especially with Reo. Definitely a more “personal” spin on this series compared to the main one, where the focus is on abstract concepts about soccer, techniques, ego, Isagi’s growth etc lol.

I get how that fits into the contexts of the time too (eugh misogyny) but it’s refreshing to see more bold characters than your token shoujo protag LOL

Umm speaking of developing SLOW BURN I’m a SUCKER for slow burn maybe that’s also why I love your writing too…I feel like you give the story and characters proper time to develop and evolve without rushing them through to a conclusion which makes it sm nicer honestly….like even if some pieces have more open endings I feel like the stories are much more complete because it felt sometimes more slow burn esque? Compared to just jumping straight into a relationship after a few sentences or something

yes i am all caught up!! i keep up w leaks too so i know everything that’s going on. to be honest i don’t 100% love how the story’s been going and i def have felt my interest in jjk waning as of late but i’m sure gege has some kind of end game planned that will be interesting. reading weekly has def been disheartening as it’s hard to invest when the same fight has been going on for SO long yk?? i feel like things that would’ve gotten me hyped before now just feel like…okay…like not enough is happening chapter to chapter or smth idk. once the arc is finished and it’s animated i’m hoping the pacing feels a bit more natural!!

YES otoya is almost like irreverent i think?? he’s not immature but he just truly does not care he’s doing his own thing. whereas karasu is very concerned w what people think of him and yuki has an innate classiness and dignity to him so i think they could pull off the noble vibe well. though quite honestly karasu gives me more knight/samurai (in this au) vibes — still a fighter, but a more honorable one who has a moral code he strictly follows compared to otoya’s willingness to do wtvr

MORALLY GREY CHARACTERS WHO ARE ACTUALLY MORALLY GREY MY BELOVED 💖 oh yeah 100% if i was going a bit more cliche i could’ve had y/n try to seduce him or smth but i tried to avoid that (although eita does make one slight joke of a sexual nature during their convo but he’s just being goofy so i think it’s okay) as i really wanted to set her up as someone who’s not afraid of being brutal/ruthless to get what she wants. and i agree there’s a lot of more subdued fmc in historical aus but honestly it’s an au so why not give my female characters agency??? i’ve def written the more stereotypically “weak” fmc before but i didn’t want to go that route this time given who she’s inspired by. plus a lot of it is rooted in westernization i think — people view the history of other countries through a european lens when a lot of the time that doesn’t apply. for example y/n being a bastard wouldn’t be a huge problem in japanese society as bastards/cheating were actually relatively common back then!! and even accepted…if a lord didn’t have legitimate heirs he would adopt his bastards and that was that 🤷🏻‍♀️ that’s why y/n being “cursed” and the daughter of a maid, as well as reiji being the legitimate heir, is important to her backstory and why she suffers in the way she does, as well as an explanation for some of her later actions. in a european-based story, just being a bastard would be enough of an explanation for all of that, but in something based on sengoku-era japan, there needs to be further context. but also even setting that aside if i can have ninjas in my story (who i am trying to keep more accurate than their general portrayal in fiction but i’m still going to take liberties with) then why not a ruthless selfish fmc who goes to war and takes over the kingdom?? anyways there’s records of empresses in japan, china, and korea alike, so long story short i think that writing y/n like this makes sense and is about as historically accurate as the rest of it, so why not?? plus it makes for a more fun story

HAHAHA the itoshi bros are like the only bllk characters who i see with a tonnn of fics!! the others don’t have quite as many (although kaiser is getting up there i think). i do think that a lot of the stories have similar tropes due to the nature of the characters…they both feel like very “stuck” characters in that you can’t do too much w them or change them a lot — they’re so into soccer that putting them in an au for example would fundamentally change their characters, so you most likely won’t catch me writing more than a one shot or two abt them. whereas as we’ve discussed tabieitaken, kaiser, nagireo, and even hiori all feel like they have characters outside of soccer so it’s easier to put them in other scenarios and play around with how they’d react to them

I LOVEEEE A GOOD SLOWBURN!! even stories where the characters get together quickly in terms of time i try to really show the buildup. i always want the relationships i write about to feel believable, so i need to write every step of them falling in love or else it doesn’t feel accurate to me. that’s actually an issue i had with peregrine — because it started in the future, after that buildup, i felt weird writing nagi being in love w the mc because it didn’t feel “earned” yet.

oh you can never keep me from my research LMAOAO i’ll take any excuse to do it!! even white butterfly had me googling the flora and fauna of japanese fields to ensure i didn’t mention any animals that wouldn’t natively live in y/n and hiori’s field HAHA

finally watched the fnaf movie lol i’m sad i didn’t get to watch it in theaters and enjoy all the hype when it first released

i had planned to but it came out a week after i had surgery so i was not going to be able to sit comfortably in a theater. i was hardly able to sit in bed comfortably for more than a month and i still experience discomfort anyway that’s not important lol

fucking dope it was a lot of fun

like it didn’t follow the timeline to a T and they took some liberties but honestly i can’t even complain about the changes

i liked the runtime too. despite it being only 1 hr 45 min~ish, they did a lot with it and it didn’t feel rushed at all. the pacing was great

i balk at movies with 2hr+ runtimes, i’m more likely to not watch it when it’s that long bc it’s a commitment my goldfish brain is not ready for lol

Okay so I’ve been in a big Pokemon (specifically Mystery Dungeon) mood so I’ve been listening to the Pokemon anime OPs and fuck it I wanna talk about each one and give my silly little thoughts. They’re in order of release just in case you don’t recognize the names. 

Indigo League: Bro it’s fucking Indigo League that shit’s classic for a reason. It hasn’t aged a DAY it goes hard and if you say otherwise we literally cannot be friends anymore I’m sorry. Also it has an extended version which is more of the same vibe but like... It’s like getting more good food. Same flavor but MORE. Orange Island: Honestly underrated in my opinion. It kinda gives off a celebratory vibe? Like everyone ate up Indigo League so much that the Orange Island OP is just the team cheering themselves on. Feels very grand and epic in a way. I like it! Johto Journeys: Bruhhhhhh this song is so good. Not my favorite but GOD it’s up there. It has just such a positive energy and I can’t help but just STIM the life out of me when I hear this. It also leans back on the motif of “Gotta catch ‘em all!” the first OP had so I think that’s just kinda cute.  Johto League Champions: THIS SONG IS PEAK HOLY SHIT THE FUCKING INTRO THING I DUNNO ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC SO I DUNNO THE WORD FOR IT BUT GOD THIS IS LITERALLY HYPE CONDENSED INTO A FUCKING MP4 FILE THIS MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE??? Master Quest: This has a mix of being peak hype, sounding like the cheesiest and corniest shit, and also being the intro song of my favorite Pokemon movie. It’s so good! Not as good at invoking the emotions like Johto League but it’s close! Advanced: This kinda has a really good vibe. It feels like the series is growing with it’s audience a bit and is trying really hard to be “cool” and is honestly succeeding really well. I appreciate the vibes behind this. Also “There’s a hero buried deep inside” I know they mean emotionally but my brain can’t help but go “Bro dig him out??? Can he breathe???” Advanced Challenge: Hmmm, I like it allot. It does lean into a cool “epic” aesthetic. But I don’t have any thoughts past that? It’s just good. lol Advanced Battle: BRO HOLY SHIT, THE ONLY TRUE WAY TO LISTEN TO THIS IS MAX VOLUME! IT’S SO GOOD okay okay no but for real though godddd this is peak Pokemon OP! I have no fucking real thoughts just LISTEN TO IT NOW I DEMAND YOU Battle Frontier: This is pretty good, I do find the lyrics “If you’re strong, you’ll survive, and you’ll keep your dreams alive!” and “It’s the master plan!” kinda... Hello??? Is this weird or am I overly analyzing it? Probably both. lol Diamond and Pearl: I may have not found this season interesting but the second I heard this OP I was READY for PEAK. This song has such a POWERFUL energy that felt like I was about to FIGHT GOD DP Battle Dimension: Ehh, I’m very mixed on this. Some parts feel like a theme you’d hear during a fun adventure (and the focus on the friendship of the cast was nice) but it also lacks a real energy I enjoy from the Pokemon OPs.  DP Galactic Battles: This song genuinely sounds like the end of the series. Like a beautiful swansong! Almost as if they wanted Pokemon to end with a beautiful send off. Besides that it’s genuinely fantastic and I come back to Galactic Battles’ OP allot! Sinnoh League Victors: I’m gonna be honest it’s like... Okay? It’s kinda middling at best. It sure exists you know?  Black & White: The time I hopped back onto the Pokemon anime since it was back to airing on Cartoon Network! I like this one! The start is a bit too slow for my tastes since I prefer the hype but hey when it gets there it really gets there! BW Rival Destinies: I dropped off the show again during this time. It’s pretty alright, I prefer the Black & White OP though, this feels like it doesn’t have the same energy as the previous one. It’s focus on the friendship aspects does add a bit though! BW Adventures in Unova: It sure exists. It takes so long to really get to the punchy parts of the Pokemon aesthetics. I do like it’s focus on the fact that Ash has come so far and stuff. Overall I don’t really care for it.  XY: After dropping off I came back for XY and honestly after so long after Indigo League hearing them essentially come back to that original theme with a twist was amazing! This OP goes hard and high-key so did this season. I recommend XY allot! XY Kalos Quest: It takes so much build up to the good stuff BUT GOD IS THE WAIT WORTH IT! I THINK THIS IS MY FAVORITE OUT OF EVERY OP SERIOUSLY IT’S SO GOOD! I cannot recommend listening to this enough, it’s full of so much life and energy!  XYZ: Again, dropped the show. So I have no nostalgia for this. All in all though I kinda like it. Not enough to sing it’s praises from the rooftops but enough to give it a listen every once in a while. It’s mostly just not my vibe.  Sun & Moon: IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT SHITTY BEACHSIDE TRACK FROM SONIC LOST WORLD IT INCITES ANGER AND HATRED IN MY HEART Sun & Moon Ultra Adventures: This sounds like the kind of song someone would blast out their car with the windows down and make me wanna throw a rock through their window, pass. Sun & Moon Ultra Legends: Better than the previous two OPs so... Good? Journeys The Series: Woo, back to the kind of energy I come to Pokemon OPs for!!! I have yet to watch Journeys but boy howdy this is a nice bouncy vibe!  Master Journeys: Oh shit sorry I accidentally put on my Hatsune Miku music oops (not bad but... Not the vibe I want?) Ultimate Journeys: Way different vibes from basically all the other OPs but honestly I kinda vibe with this. Not what I expect but still something fitting.  I wrote all these in a single listening session AS I WAS LISTENING TO THEM so uhhhhhhhhh hope you enjoyed? (Maybe I’ll make a tier list of them? Who knows.)

How was your experience watching ytc?!

Mine was pretty eventful lol...I watched it today at 3. I booked a ticket when it released on 1/10. But then I went to check the locations website for the movie on 2/1 and found a closer theater at 3. And then picked a diff seat at 1pm today lol. Trains were being kinda slow ugh. Got out the station at 2:50. Got a lil lost looking at the google maps bc im so bad at reading them sometimes...Speed walked/ran to the theater and felt so sad that i was late. despairing while riding the escalator up to the theater. bc the theater website said they dont allow lateness and will refund you. but the ads were playing for 15 min...thank god but ugh. such an experience bc its so loud and such a big screen. 2d but still good. A very fun experience! I was dancing a lil, vibing, and swinging the army bomb. I wanted to bring 2 but chose not to bc no space in my bag. I took out the bomb on the 3rd song. Regret not doing so at the start :/ The other people were quiet and only did some "woo!" screams after songs. Idk if I like this better than a louder concert like experience but eh. My voice was still pretty bad bc sick. So i mouthed the words or quietly sang. Got SO hyped at "ugh" and "cypher pt 3". Got tired at some parts after getting hyped but tried to keep up my energy for every song. Was mainly looking at Yoongi if he was in the shot. His gummy smiles TT I'm so sad that they cut out some of their comments especially the Yoongi and Jimin birthday banter TT Jin TT Surprised I didn't cry but I was very sad as it got to the end. Time flew by so fast omg! I didn't take any pictures bc I wanted to get out and go home quickly :/ Kinda regret it but oh well. I did get a cute freebie from an army tho!
