Shoutout to my friend who watched me go from “I feel like I’m going to throw up” to “I think I’m going to have an anxiety attack” to actively hyperventilating on the floor in the space of 1 (one) minute and somehow responded effectively.
Significantly less of a shoutout to my body for APPARENTLY having the exact same physical cues for both “going to pass out from low blood sugar/dehydration” and an anxiety attack

Bestie hear me, out hear me out, it might be my atsv hyperfixation still running high and the fact that the kraven trailer got me binge-reading/watching every piece of media that this man appears in but could I request an enemies to lovers trope with Kraven and gn spidey reader ? Is it going to be just fluff or have some smut at the end ? I'll leave that up to you.😜
Anyway, feel free to ignore it if it's not right up your alley.
Thank you and I hope you're having a good day <3
I LOVEEE THIS
Warnings- suggestive towards the end but no actual smut, reader and Kraven been “enemies” for months with just a lot of tension
Spiders
Tumblr media
Kraven liked spiders, just like he did lots of animals. He found them interesting and beautiful.
His opinion had changed when he met you.
“I’m just doing my job.” You said, putting your hands up in defense quickly running up a wall, away from the man who was currently trying to attack you. He seemed feral, almost.
“Well let me do mines.” He growled, and started to walk away when you shot a web to him, quickly making him turn back to you.
“Yeahhhh.. after what I just saw, can’t happen.” You folded your arms, narrowing your eyes at him.
“Well then pretend you didn’t see it.” He began to walk away again, not feeling like killing a popular hero and getting arrested for it.
“You bit some guys nose off, man!” You groaned and shot some webs in front of him, blocking him from leaving.
The man turned back, sighing.
“Fine.”
He ran up to you, you shot a web in his face, making him unable to see, you kicked his ankles, he fell down to the ground and ripped the web off his face, now pissed off.
He ran towards you, your eyes widening and you quickly shot your webs towards him, they hit his arms, and you pulled, throwing him towards the ground, as he was down you made a makeshift cocoon with webs, trapping him.
He threw his head back onto the concrete, and you picked him up like he weighed nothing as he trashed around in the webs.
“Jesus Christ, man, you’re so violent.” You said, as you struggled to hold him.
“If you let me go I can show you just how violent I am.” He mumbled.
“Sounds great. So great.” You rolled your eyes. Asshole. That’s when a loud noise behind you stopped you, a whole damn tiger running up.
You yelped and dropped Kraven, his head hitting the ground as he groaned, the tiger sniffing him before looking back at you, making a run for it.
“How’d you get a damn tiger?!” You yelled, running away.
————————————————————-
So that’s how you were now standing in front of him, you both just staring, your arms folded.
“Sooo… how was your day?” You said, trying to lighten to very tense mood.
“It was good before I saw you.” He looked back at the group of people he had just murdered.
“Mm.. I see that. And what’d these guys do?”
“They are- they were working for my dad.”
“Oh, so daddy issues?”
“Yeah… something like that.”
“Well.” You sighed. “As much as I would love for this great conversation to continue, I gotta take you back to jail.” You shrugged.
“So I can break out again?”
You groaned in annoyance. “You better not.”
He laughed quietly and shook his head.
You both fought for a while, and suddenly he was on top of you, breathing heavily as you tried to push him off, your attempts futile. He stared down at you, just staring.
(Can you guys tell I suck at writing fights?)
It all was probably because of adrenaline, but you quickly lifted up your mask, and he was bending down to your level, and your lips suddenly connected in a hungry kiss.
———————————————————————
You laid in the hotel bed, lifting the sheet up and thinking about every single choice you just made.
He got in the bed next to you, you continued to stare at the ceiling.
“That can never happen again.” You mumbled after a while, him reading a book.
He looked at you, laughing again.
“That’s what they all say.”
“Seriously- me and you- we fucking.. hate each other.
“Mmm.. do we?”
“Yes! I’m the person who’s stopped you like a billion times-“
“Tried to stop me. Some of those times you failed.”
“Oh, whatever! You’re a prick.. just happen to be a very attractive prick. And it was just adrenaline-“
He snickered and looked back at the book.
“Was it?”
“Yes! You’re like… you’re like a fucking bird, and I’m the damn spider! In case you don’t know-“
“Birds eat spiders-“
“Exactly!”
“So you admit it? I beat you a lot?”
“Shut uppp.” You rolled your eyes.
“Something kinda rude to say to a guy who you were just begging to fuck you.” He snickered.

“We might uh, um turn! Turn! Turn!” Peter P. said as the ship ran into a demolished building, causing the whole thing to shake.
“Oh Lord.” I mumbled under my breath forcing a piece of metal to lower itself in front of me and steadying myself. Peter P. grunted as we crashed onto the ground, Stephen doing his best to steady us.
The ship came to a stop and I took a breath of relief, letting go of the metal as Peter P. hung upside down on his web.
“Let me just say, if aliens wind up implanting eggs in my chest or something and I eat one of you, I’m sorry.”
I shook my head with a laugh.
“I do not want another single pop culture reference out of you for the rest of the trip, you understand?”
“Uh, he’s just trying to tell us someone is coming.” I warned and Peter P. nodded.
“Thank you, Y/n.” He thanked me as a little metal ball rolled in between us. In just a moment it exploded, sending us backwards. I grunted as I hit the ground and looked up to see two red eyes coming in from the fog, followed by silhouettes of other people.
A big one yelled and threw knives at Stephen, who blocked them with his shield, making the man scream in anger before getting tackled by Cape. The one with red eyes began shooting while flying up in the air, Tony following after him, his mask now on. Tony shot a blast at the guy who dodged it but ran into a piece of metal I placed next to him.
“Ah!” I heard Peter P. screech and I looked to him to see an alien girl leaning over him, her tendrils glowing. “Woah woah woah, please don’t put your eggs in me!” He shot her with webs causing her to yelp in surprise before the red eyed guy kicked Peter down.
Tony took Capes spot above the man as the guy with red eyes held onto Peter P. from behind, a gun pointed to his head. I held my hands up, hood covering my eyes as metal flew around me, aiming at both the red eyed and the big guy.
“Everybody stay where you are, chill the f out!” He brought his hand up and his mask retracted. I shivered as a sudden wave of familiarity filled my body. Do I know this guy? “I’m gonna ask you this one time, where is Gamora?”
“Yeah, I’ll do you one better!” Tony said as his mask also retracted. “Who’s Gamora?”
“I’ll do you one better, why is Gamora?” The big one said from beneath Tony. I looked at Stephen who looked just as confused as me.
“Tell me where the girl is or I swear to you I’m gonna french fry this little freak.”
“Woah, watch your tone there, man.” I told him, waving the metal in the air. His eyes flashed with something unrecognizable, but I ignored it.
“Let’s do it. Shoot my guy and I’ll blast him! Let’s go!” Tony threatened.
“Do it Quill! I can take it!” The big man said and my stance faltered. Quill?
“No! He can’t take it!” An alien looking girl I didn’t even realize was there yelled.
“She’s right. You can’t.” Stephen said calmly.
“Oh, yeah? You don’t wanna tell me where she is? That’s fine! I’ll kill all four of you and I’ll beat it out of Thanos myself!” He pushed the gun harder against Peter P.’s head. “Starting with you.
“Wait what?” Stephen asked. “All right, let me ask you this one time. What master do you serve?”
I snorted, “What is he supposed to say, Jesus?” I said as red eyes guy said the same thing, just with “I” instead of "he.” He looked at me with wide eyes.
“Woah, weird.” Peter P. mumbled.
“Wait, you’re from Earth?” Tony asked.
“Not from Earth, I’m from Missouri.”
“Hey, that’s where Y/n’s from.” Peter said quietly, but apparently only I heard him as everyone continued talking.
“Yeah, that’s on Earth, dipshit. What are you hassling us for?”
“Wait, so you’re not with Thanos?” Peter asked shakily.
Red eyed guy looked at Peter P. incredulously, “With Thanos? No, I’m here to kill Thanos. He took our gir- wait, who are you?”
Peter’s mask retracted. “We’re the Avengers, man.”
“You’re the ones Thor told us about!” The alien girl said and the red eyes guy looked at me in thought.
“You know Thor?” Tony asked.
“Yeah, tall guy, not that good looking.” Red eyes guy said, not breaking his gaze. “Needed saving.”
“Where is he now?” Stephen asked.
My metal dropped to the floor with a loud bang, making everyone jump.
“Y/n?” Peter P. asked and I lowered my hood, looking straight at red eyes guy with teary eyes.
I walked closer to him, my heart thumping heavily.
“What is it? Y/n?” Tony asked.
“Peter?” I whispered to red eyes guy who stared intently at me.
His eyes widened, “Y/n?” He whispered back.
“They know each other?” Peter P. asked Tony and Stephen who shrugged, just as lost as him.
I laughed in relief and tackled him in a hug, squeezing tightly as a few stray tears left my eyes. It had been years since I had last seen him. We were eight. He disappeared right after his mother died and I never fully recovered. It had been a while, and we were only eight and it was so dumb, but I loved him so much.
“I can’t believe you’re alive.” I said to him quietly, finally letting go to look at him. “What happened to you?”
“I was literally abducted by aliens.” he said and I laughed.
“What’s going on?” Tony asked.
“I know this guy. He’s a good guy.” I told him, not providing an explanation on purpose.
Tony nodded, knowing it was pointless to pry. I would tell him when I was ready.
“Okay, have your little reunion thing, I’m gonna make a plan.” He said and walked off with Stephen.
“So you’re telling me that after you left you literally joined a superhero team with Captain freaking America?”
I laughed, “You work with a tree! And a racoon!”
“Speaking of, I hope you and Rocket get to meet. I feel like he’d like you.”
“I hope I can meet all of your new friends.”
Peter Q. grabbed my hand, “I’ve really missed you, Y/n. You’re the reason I almost came back to Earth so many times.”
“I’ve missed you too, Peter.” I said and he leaned in slowly. My eyes flickered down to his lips as fast footsteps came towards us.
“Y/n! Help! He’s gonna kill me!” Peter P. said, out of breath as the big guy, who I now know is Drax, ran behind him. I laughed loudly before looking back at Peter Q.
“Sorry, sister from another mister duty calls, Peter Q. Gotta go save my brother.” I said and stood up, quickly pressing a kiss to Peter Q’s cheek before running after Peter P. and Drax.
Bonus
“Peter! No!” I yelled with teary eyes as Peter Q. began turning to dust. I ran up to him, placing my hand on his slowly disintegrating cheek. “No, I just got you back!” I cried.
“I love you, Y/n/n.” he whispered before disintegrating. I cried harder at the use of the nickname he gave to me when we were si
I heard the other Peter cry and desperately beg for help, I turned around quickly, running over to the other Peter who was laying down while holding tightly onto Tony.
“No, not you too.” I said, holding tightly onto his hand.
“I don’t wanna go, I don’t wanna go.” He said over and over and I shushed him through my own tears, gently pushing his hair from his face.
“Shh, it’s gonna be okay, Peter. You’re gonna be okay, alright?” I said and softly hummed him his favorite song. The notes turned into sobs as he disappeared, not paying attention as yet another person I loved disappeared, leaving only Tony, Nebula, and I. All alone.

Blood and Roses Part 3
Chapter Summary: Everyone is still struggling with the aftermath of Eddie's return. Eddie gets a chance to prove he can be trusted.
Series Summary and Characters posted in Part One.
Warnings: Angst, reader is assaulted, Eddie is violent with reader's attacker, blood. reader and Steve argue again. Also no one hate me for this, but it's revealed that Max died.
Part 1 2
You make it to the butcher shop and back without any trouble. Since the earthquake and fire, the whole town has gone to hell. More than half of its citizens had fled, and a lot of those that stayed behind considered the city their own personal playground. They would loot, vandalize, and even attack people for sport.
It's dark out. An almost permanent black cloud had settled over the town. Occasionally the sun would peek through, but it was a rare occasion. You missed it.
You’re getting out of the car when a random man approaches you.
“Hey, miss, you got the time?”
You’re instantly on guard. “No, sorry. I don’t wear a watch.”
He frowns. “Damn. Do you maybe got anything to eat? I’m starving.”
“Again, sorry. I’m not carrying anything with me.” No way were you inviting him in the house.
He eyes your bag. “Looks like you got plenty.”
“It’s not food.”
He snorts and grabs your arm. “We’ll see.”
You kick at him. “Let go of me!”
He backhands you into the car. You cry out and drop the bag, blood splattering everywhere.
“What the fuck? What is this? You sick bitch, look at my clothes!” He lifts his hand to strike you again. You brace yourself for the blow, but it never comes.
You realized your eyes are screwed shut. You open them to see Eddie standing in front of you, holding the guy up in the air by his throat.
“Eddie, stop. Let him go, please!"
He squeezes his throat tighter.
"Eddie, don't!"
He looks at you. "Are you hurt? Is this your blood?"
"No, no, it's animal blood! I'm fine! Put him down."
Eddie glares at the man. "I see you around here again and you're fucking dead, do you hear me?"
He struggles to nod, slapping at Eddie’s arm and panicking. Eddie drops him on the ground and kicks him.
“Get the fuck out of here, you piece of shit."
You watch as the man runs off, looking horrified. He trips and falls, glancing back over his shoulder as he sprints away.
Eddie turns to you, cupping your face in his hands. "Are you okay? Are you sure you aren't hurt?"
"How are you out here? Did they untie you?"
He looks down guiltily. "Not exactly."
"Eddie?"
"I have, like, supernatural hearing now. I could hear what he was saying, heard him slap you."
"But you were tied in chains, how did you-"
He still won't meet your eyes. "I, uh…"
Steve and Dustin come sprinting outside. Steve takes one look at you drenched in blood and slams Eddie into your car.
"Dustin get her inside, get help!"
"Steve, Jesus, this isn't my blood! I dropped the bag from the butcher. Can everyone please calm the FUCK down?"
Eddie shoves Steve. "Get off me, man, I was helping her."
Steve slams him into the car again.
"Steve, stop! It's true! Some random guy attacked me. Eddie ran him off."
Dustin grips your arm, looking terrified. "We left him alone for a few minutes. I heard a bang, the chains were in pieces on the floor, we didn't-"
"Shh, shh, I'm fine. I promise I'm okay. He didn't hurt me." You reassure him.
"Tell us the truth. Did you know you could break those chains the whole time?" Steve demands.
Eddie hesitates, then nods. "I mean, yeah, I figured I could. They weren't heavy or anything."
"They're like an inch thick!"
"Wait, so you were just pretending to be restrained? You could have gotten out any time?" Dustin asks.
Eddie nods slowly.
Steve huffs. "So you lied to us. We weren't safe at all."
You shake your head. "Steve, no. Don't you see? He could have attacked us at any time but he didn't! I'm standing here covered in blood and he hasn't touched me."
"He still lied!"
"What choice did he have!? You've been treating him like an animal!"
"I've been trying to keep us all alive!"
"Who died and made you boss!?"
"Who else has to die, Y/N?"
You step back, recoiling as if he'd slapped you.
Eddie glances back and forth between the two of you. "Who…who died?"
Dustin clears his throat. "Um, Max. She…she didn't make it."
Eddie slumps. "Red? What happened?"
"Vecna got her. She lived a little while afterwards, but the doctors couldn't, they couldn't-"
You squeeze Dustin's shoulder.
Eddie sighs, rubbing his face.
"I'm just trying to keep the rest of us alive." Steve repeats softly.
"I shouldn't have come back. I don't know why I thought- I'm gonna go." Eddie says.
You grab his arm. "Eddie, no, please. Don't leave."
"Steve's right. You guys can't trust me. I get it."
"No, Steve can't trust you, but I do. I do!"
"Y/N." Steve protests.
You turn and jab a finger at his chest. "If I have to lose him again, because of you, I will never forgive you. I swear to God, Steve, I will hate you."
Eddie looks stunned. You siding with him over Steve was the last thing he expected. You and Steve had always been close, two peas in a pod. He figured that had only intensified after everything had gone to hell.
"Fine. He stays. But he's still under watch and if he takes one step out of line-"
"I won't." Eddie interrupts. "I swear."
Steve doesn't look convinced, but drops it.
You sigh. "Now can I please go shower? This blood is starting to dry and it's so sticky."
__________
You stay in the shower as long as you can, scrubbing until your skin is red. You figure your clothes are pretty much ruined, so you throw them into the wastebasket before toweling off. Robin knocks on the door and opens it a few inches, sticking clean clothes through the crack.
"Thank you."
"Are you okay?"
"I haven't been okay in weeks." You admit.
"Get dressed. I'll make you some tea."
You get dressed and run a brush through your hair, scowling at your reflection in the mirror. In the past few weeks, you'd lost weight, gained undereye circles, and had various scrapes and bruises that were slow to heal. You barely recognized yourself.
You head into the kitchen.
Eddie is sitting at the table, sipping blood from a coffee mug. He looks embarrassed, but you squeeze his shoulder reassuringly.
"Feeling better?" He asks, reaching up to lay his hand on yours.
You nod. "I'm fine. Thank you, for everything."
"Don't mention it."
Robin sets a cup of tea in front of you. "Drink. You look pale."
You sit down and sip it slowly. "Someone's gotta go back to the butcher, replace what I-"
"Nancy and Mike are on it."
"Good deal."
"I'm sorry for being so much trouble." Eddie mumbles. "I'm sorry for all of it."
"Hey, none of this is your fault. You didn't ask for this, Eddie. None of us did."
"I should have stayed away. I didn't think-"
"Enough." You say firmly, taking his hand in yours. "We're glad you're back. We missed you."
"Maybe you and Dustin did, but-"
"Hey now, I missed you!" Robin protests. "Maybe not as much as Y/N and Dustin, but we weren't besties and I wasn't in love with you, still I really did…oh…shit."
You clench your mug so tightly your knuckles turn white. You refuse to look up, refuse to see the expression on Eddie's face.
"Y/N, I…" Robin stutters.
You stand up, pouring your tea into the sink and rinsing out your cup.
Neither Robin or Eddie say anything as you walk out of the room.
Robin turns to Eddie. "I didn't mean that like it sounded. I didn't mean Y/N was in love with you, I was just saying that you and I weren't really friends or romantically involved, well obviously not romantically involved because you're not the type I like, but I'm just-"
"Robin. It's fine. Steven basically told me already. I just haven't said anything to Y/N because I don't know what to say."
"Oh. Okay, well, can you please tell her you already knew? I wouldn't say you heard it from Steve, it might be the final nail in their coffin, but if you could shift the blame off me a little-"
"I'm not talking about it. It doesn't matter now."
"Wait, why not?"
"Because I'm a fucking vampire and we're basically in the middle of the apocalypse. How would we ever make it work?"
"I gotta ask, and feel free to tell me to mind my own business, but before all this happened, did you-"
"Yeah. I loved her. I just didn't know how to tell her. I always thought she and Steve were gonna wind up together. They were so close. I didn't think she would want someone like me."
"I really think you should talk to her."
"I can't. I can see it on her face, I've already broken her heart more than once. I won't hurt her again."
"Maybe there's a way."
"People like me don't get happy endings with people like her. My story isn't gonna be filled with romance and roses. It's blood and war now."
"Why can't it be both?"
"You really think that's what she deserves? A life of going to the butcher shop for me, hiding me out from the town, hiding from the sun? She deserves more. I won't do that to her. I wasn't good enough for her before this happened, I'm damn sure not good enough for her now."
"I don't think that's true, Eddie. You're still you. And she's still her."
"Robin, drop it." He warns. "My mind is made up."
She sighs. "I get it. I do. But Y/N won't."
"She will eventually."
"I think you're underestimating her. She could handle this. She's stronger than you think."
"I know she is. But I'm not. And I won't do this to her."
Robin nods. "Just be careful. You have no idea the hell she's been through without you."

Everyone’s a feminist until there is a spider around
Chris was relaxing with Dodger on the couch when he heard the front door open. Glancing over he smiled when he saw you walk in, dressed in a pink tee and short denim overalls.
“Hey how was the rally?” Chris asked as you put down your ‘no uterus no opinion’ sign.
“Good” you smiled as you kicked off your shoes and walked over to him “met some inspiring people, took some photos, said my piece and helped empower women”
Chris smiles up at you, reaching out to take your hand, his thumb gently running over your skin “I’m proud of you” he smiles.
“Thank you, now I’m gonna go have a shower and wash all this glitter off” you say as you lean down to give him a quick kiss.
“Alright, i’ll have dinner ready for when you’re done” Chris tells you making you smile.
“Thanks sweetheart” you smile before heading up the stairs.
Chris pushed himself up from the couch, Dodger letting out a small huff and the disturbance as Chris left to head into the kitchen.
He was just in the middle of prepping all the veg when he heard you screaming his name. He instantly dropped everything and ran up the stairs.
“Sweetheart what’s wrong are you hurt?” He asks slightly out of breath as he burst through the bathroom door spotting you stood outside of the shower shivering.
“There’s a spider in the shower!” You tell him as you clung to your towel, shampoo still in your hair.
Chris’ shoulders relax as he lets out a small chuckle “Jesus christ sweetheart I thought you’d hurt yourself or something”
“I’m sorry but please go get rid of it” you say a small whine in your voice.
“Alright, alright where is it?” Chris says grabbing some toilet paper.
“At the top of the shower, right by the shower head” you tell him before shuddering “god it could have fallen on me”
Chris lets out a small chuckle earning a small glare from you. He gives you an apologetic look before stepping towards the shower. Poking his head in he starts looking for the spider, expecting it to be a small one. However when he spots it he instantly freezes, it was massive, easily the biggest he’s ever seen. Like you Chris has a fear of spiders but Chris could deal with small ones. This one was not small.
“Fahking hell, nope sorry babe that’s on you” he states shaking his head putting as much distance as he could between him and the spider.
“Chris!” You exclaim in disbelief.
“Its fahking massive! It wouldn’t even fit down the drain” Chris says pointing to the spider in question.
“Chris c’mon please!” You whine.
“You’re the one whose been at a rally all day to empower women, you deal with it” Chris argues.
“Chris I am currently in a very vulnerable and compromised position right now!” You point out gesturing to your towel covered self.
“That’s definitely the least sexiest way you’ve told me you’re naked” Chris states earning another glare from you.
“Chris!!” You complain again, stamping your foot.
“Okay, okay fine, fuck I’m not even sure if it’ll fit in a cup” Chris relents glancing back inside the shower.
“Get my hairspray” you tell him pointing back towards the bedroom
“What?” Chris asks confused
“My hairspray, spray it on the spider it’ll dry and immobilese it” you explain.
“Okay, okay, I don’t get why you can’t do this” Chris says heading out of the bathroom to grab your hairspray.
“Because you have longer arms and this” you say gesturing to yourself.
“Fine” Chris huffs.
Chris takes a deep breath mentally preparing himself. He locates the spider and starts spraying it with the hairspray, yelping suddenly when the spider fell to the floor.
“Is it dead?” Chris asks glancing down at it.
“No just paralysed now kill it before it starts moving again!” You tell him keeping as much distance as possible.
Chris lets out a small groan as he grabs the water glass that was on the side, using the bottom of it to squish the spider. Spider goo going everywhere.
“Gross” Chris mutters as he washes the spider remnants down the drain.
“Thank you so much Chris” you say breathing a sigh of relief.
“You owe me, big time” Chris states.
“Deal, we can do whatever you want later” you tell him, a lopsided grin growing on his face.
“Now that I like the sound of” he grins leaning over to quickly kiss you “now go enjoy your spider-less shower while I go finish dinner, we’re gonna need a lot of energy tonight” he winks as he slips back out of the bathroom.

Like a Rainbow in the Dark - Ch. 2 (Extract)
... When Eddie woke, he was certain he was dying.
He’d been dreaming of a red sky, of air like ash, of a biting cold. Could smell blood. His own blood. His guts were being torn to shreds, swallowed by all those sharp little mouths; he was dissolving into the gruesome, sticky soil of the Upside Down.
Another stain on the eldritch map.
And then he was back in his living room. Back to early evening darkness, warmed by a singular lamp. Steve was there, next to him, pushing on his shoulders, why, so close, why –
His guts were still, still being torn to shreds. The bats chewing up his organs, the pain astronomical, tearing through him over and over and over again. He couldn’t breathe. Could hardly see. And Steve was pushing still, pushing him upright, and Eddie felt something crawl up this throat –
Steve held onto him as he vomited, using his free hand to tuck loose strands of hair behind his ears. There was a bucket, one that hadn’t been there before. And he was sobbing. Could not remember ever sobbing quite like this, except maybe when he was a child.
“Breathe, Eddie.” Steve was so close Eddie could feel his breath on his neck. “You need to breathe.”
And Eddie tried, he really did. But then the pain in his stomach and his back and his everywhere was skyrocketing and he was lurching further into the bucket, spitting up nothing but water and bile.
“Jesus, dude. Are you sure you don’t need a hospital?”
“No hospital.” It came out garbled. Eddie spat into the bucket, lifted his head. “’S fine. Normal.”
“Fuck off,” Steve said, but continued his ministrations. Stroking back Eddie’s hair, rubbing his arms, breathing a deep and controlled example. Eddie stayed where he was, whimpering and trying hard not to retch as he rode out the cramps, sometimes successful, sometimes not.
Once he was finished, Steve handed him some water. It spilt immediately over his lap. He wrapped his hands around Eddie’s trembling ones, guiding the glass to his mouth. “Slowly,” he instructed, though Eddie didn’t need to be told. He felt too sick to take more than a few sips at a time.
Steve emptied the bucket and brought it back rinsed out, putting it down on the floor next to the couch. Whilst the pain was less intense than when Eddie had woken up – his guts were being torn to shreds, swallowed by all those sharp little mouths – he was still struggling to get a grip on it. He got onto his knees and bent over them, burying his head in the blankets, trying to breathe through it, failing, choking instead on half-formed sobs, whimpers, and all other kinds of mortifying sounds. Steve’s hand on his back only made him cry harder, broke him down that little bit more, had him crumbling into millions of tiny useless pieces.
“What can I do?” Steve sounded lost. Perhaps a little scared. Eddie just shook his head, continued to rock with his head on his knees. He heard Steve walk away, thought, he’s left, finally, thought, come back, please, and then Steve was there again, sitting on the sofa in front of Eddie, putting his hands on his shoulders, hushing, soothing.
He sat him up, pressing a fresh hot water bottle into Eddie’s belly and then pulling him onto his lap, laying him down. Eddie clutched at the bottle, wrapped his arms around himself, only half registering what was happening as Steve moved a pillow underneath his head, ran a hand along his spine. It was warm. Eddie’s breath hitched as it reached the small of his back, and so Steve let it rest there, moving his thumb back and forth, applying the lightest of pressures. The other hand stroked Eddie’s hair in a slow rhythm, and every now and then it wiped the tears and snot from his face with a soft hanky. Duck-egg blue. And behind his head, Steve Harrington breathed evenly, deliberately, until Eddie was doing the same.
“I’m sorry,” he said, voice thick and a little hoarse, once the aching had eased enough for him to think again. “I’m really sorry.”
“Shut up, Munson. You’re delirious.”
“No.” He tilted his head up to meet Steve’s eyes – took a moment to think, my head is in his fucking lap – “This is too much. You shouldn’t have to, to… You shouldn’t have come. Why did you come?”
Steve was staring at him as if he’d grown a second head. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
Eddie hiccupped, shaking harder. “Why did you come? Why are you still here?”
"Why did you call?” Steve shot back. “If you didn’t want me here, why did you?”
“I don’t know!” Eddie was close to sobbing. Again. “I don’t know. It was – I was – It hurt! I wanted someone here. I just wanted someone… here.”
“I’m here, Eddie.” Steve brought out the handkerchief again, ran it so gently underneath his eyes. There were navy initials embroidered in the corner – SH. Steve Harrington.
Who are you, Steve Harrington?
“I’m sorry,” Eddie said again, quieter this time. “You shouldn’t have to do this.”
“What if I told you,” Steve said, the corners of his lips quirking upwards, “that I wanted to?”
“I’d say you’re full of shit.” Eddie laughed, sharp, sudden, then brought a hand up to cover his mouth. He could feel the tips of his ears turning red. “Sorry.”
Steve was thinking, a crinkle between his brows. From where Eddie was laying, looking up, Steve’s face simultaneously a little shadowed and yellow blazing in the lamp light, he looked like a hazy photograph. Warm, soft, the world on pause. He was… Well. Eddie didn’t dare finish the thought.
“I know that it’s… easy to think the worst of me,” Steve started, glancing away from Eddie and looking somewhere far away. “I get it. I do. And, I can’t say that I understand everything. I don’t know much about… it, either.” Eddie didn’t need to ask what ‘it’ was. “But I want to. Because, well, you’re my friend. And I care about you. So, I want to understand, better. And know about it. So that I can… know about you.”
Eddie stared up at Steve, stunned. He had known Steve was good, was especially good, but Eddie… Eddie had always been the limitation. He’d assumed Steve was here out of duty; saw Eddie as another person to protect, regardless, in spite of. Because Steve was a hero – this was what he did. And once he was done being Eddie’s hero for the evening, he’d walk out the door and never speak to him again, cut him out, come to terms with his disgust. Maybe tell Robin, or Dustin, or everybody who Eddie really was, what he was, what lay underneath it all.
But, no. Steve wanted… Steve wanted to –
“… Know about me?” He curled his knees up tighter, dug his nails into his sides. “Even though… even though –”
“Yes.” Steve pulled at Eddie’s hands, loosened his fingers, held onto his palms. “Yes. That’s why you’re worried, right? You think… I see you different. Like you less.”
“You don’t?” Eddie hated the way he sounded. Pitchy. Bewildered.
“No,” Steve said. “I don’t.”
“Fuck you, Harrington,” he choked out, and then was crying, for the millionth time. “I was getting all worked up.”
He laughed. “I could see that.”
“You’re strange,” Eddie said, shaking his head. “You’re so strange.”
Steve smiled, going back to running his hands through Eddie’s hair, wiping his tears, circling his back. Tending to him so carefully. “Yeah,” he murmured, so low Eddie nearly missed it, “I guess I am.”

Rindō sighed as he walked into your studio. You had isolated yourself in the gigantic flat again. Just you and your paintings. But you had a meeting with his boss today, and you were late. Mikey didn’t like when people were late.
“{Reader}! Where are you?!”
He shouted slightly, knowing his voice would echo off the walls and the huge paintings scattered across the room.
“You needed me?” Rindō jumped to the sound of your voice as he turned around hastily.
“Jesus! Do you always have to do that?! God..” Rindō sighed breathlessly as he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, as they had slid down when he jumped slightly.
{Reader} shrugged as he pushed his own glasses up.
Walking past his youngest brother he walks over to a 60x90 canvas, Rindō following shortly after.
“What are you painting?” Rindō asked as he looked over your shoulder, analyzing the piece of work you had probably spent hours on. Looking at it, it was a half finished painting of a person with eyes the colour of coal and short black hair, and god… whoever it was, they were gorgeous. Your painting making the person seem like some kind of angel.
“Currently?.. Nothing.” {Reader} said as he looked at his [left]/[right] hand resting by his side and back to his brother. “Why are you here?”
Rindō rolled his eyes, “alright Mr. Captin Obvious, don’t tell me, and I’m here to pick you up, our boss wanted to meet you remember?”
“Not really no.”
“I- goddamnit. Manjiro Sano? Gang leader? Ring any bells?”
{Reader} stayed silent as he fiddled with his paint brush, softly swiping it against his overalls pant leg.
Rindō rubbed his temples in frustration.
“You literally met him the other day big bro!”
“Did I?”
“Yes! He said he was impressed by your work and wanted to have you paint some stuff for him! How can you not remember?”
“Well he’s supposed to set up an appointment- and tell me what he wants and a time and date for when he wants it done, then we can plan a time for when he can get the painting and there’s so much more to it than that-“ Rindō placed his hands on your upper arms, grabbing them, and shaking you slightly.
“He wanted to meet you today so he could do those things {Reader}.”
With a soft ‘oh’ {Reader} nodded.
“So you’ll go to meet my boss now?”
“Yes.”
Rindō smiled slightly and grabbed your free hand, walking you, more like dragging you, towards the door.
“You’re tense, chill out yeah?”
“I’m not tense.” You said as you climbed into the passenger seat of Rindō’s car.
Rindō gave you a ‘uh huh’ and rolled his eyes as he drove away from your art studio, making small talk and picking on you for being so serious and professional the whole way to meet his boss. You, just going along with it to entertain your younger brother.

she's insignificant
chapter 4: run girl run

warnings: mentions of blood
masterlist
"you will be working on locating number five instead" reginald instructed the young girl. she raised her head in shock.
"what?"
"come, we must work in solitude" he ignored her confusion, uncaring for her feelings as usual. he lead her down the stairs. she only remembered coming down here once as a child, it was when vanya was sick. reginald showed her to a vault like room. she stared at it, unsure.
"you will be training down here from now on, your siblings will not disrupt you down here"
the h/c haired girl stared at the room with wide eyes. her siblings wouldn't disrupt her or she wouldn't disrupt them..?
————————————————–
"like i said to your son earlier, any information about the prosthetics we build is strictly confidential. without the client's consent i simply can't help" lance biggs sat in his office chair, staring at klaus as he talked. five stood beside the chair y/n sat in, hands in pockets and annoyed.
"well, we can't get consent if you don't give us a name" five leaned in, gritting his teeth.
"well, that's not my problem" lance shrugged, "sorry, now there's really nothing i can do so.."
"oh, what about my consent?" klaus looked up now, gaining five and y/n's attention. what was he doing? "who gave you permission to lay your hands on my son?"
"what?" the other three people in the room all spoke in unison.
"you heard me"
"i didn't touch your son" lance argued, glancing at five.
"oh, really?" klaus begun to lean forwards, moving to stand up. "well then how did he that swollen lip then?"
"he doesn't have a swollen lip-" lance was cut off as klaus struck five across the face. five touched a hand to his now bleeding lip, glaring at klaus in confusion.
"and, what about my daughter? how dare you lay a hand on her. she's so sweet and innocent" klaus turned to y/n now, gesturing to her. she awaited a hit now, sure he was going to punch her. "how could you assault her like that?" and just as she thought he slapped a hand across her face, leaving a bright red hand print.
"i want it. name please, now" klaus turned back to lance, leaning on his desk. the doctor raised a shaky finger at him.
"you're crazy"
"you got no idea" klaus laughed breathlessly before taking notice of the snow globe resting on the desk. he picked it up smiling as he read it. "'peace on earth' that's so sweet" y/n jumped in surprise as he smashed it over his head, groaning in pain. he held his hands to his face for a moment before looking back up, hair dripping with water and glitter. blood dripped down the side of his head.
lance quickly dialled a number into the phone, lifting it to his ear. he was still in shock, "i'm calling security- what are you doing?!"
y/n stood and gently gripped five's blazer sleeve, pulling him back as klaus ripped the phone from lance's grip. five glanced at her in confusion but then realised what was happening as he barely missed an elbow to the face as klaus dramatically cried into the phone.
"there's been an assault in mr biggs office and we need security now, schnow!" klaus slammed the phone back onto the table before leaning close to lance. "here's what's gonna happen grant"
"it's lance-"
"in about 60 seconds, two security guards are gonna burst through that door and they're gonna see a whole lot of blood and they're gonna wonder what the hell happened and we're gonna tell them that you, beat the shit out of us" klaus breathed for a moment standing up straight now, staring the doctor down. "you're gonna do great in prison grant, trust me, i've been there. little piece of chicken like you, oh my god you're gonna get passed around like a.. you're gonna do great, that's all i'm saying" klaus waved his hand, smiling.
five smirked now, proudly standing beside klaus. y/n nervously stood behind five, watching over his shoulder.
"jesus, you're a real sick bastard" lance stared up at him, stunned.
"thank you" klaus spat out a piece of glass.
————————————————–
"focus, number eight!" reginald shouted once again, frustrated as she failed once again to find her missing brother. she squeezed her eyes closed tighter, trying to ignore his insults.
it had been almost 6 years since five had disappeared and around 1 since ben died. she had spent that year working on finding her brother only to be unsuccessful. it was like he had dropped off the face of the earth, she didn't know how her father expected her to find him.
she needed to focus. her eyes glazed over again as she opened them, turning black for the sixth time that hour. her hands glowed a soft white colour in her lap as her powers worked. she couldn't hear her father anymore.
she opened her eyes slowly to see destruction. where was she? she notices a store behind her, flames still burning endlessly upon rubble. carefully she walked into what was left of the department store. there sat a mannequin in a white top with black dots, only the top half of the mannequin was still undamaged, she had a single arm and no hair but what was left of her body was fine. suddenly someone walked through y/n. she stared at the boy for a moment, recognising him as her missing brother.
"five..?"
————————————————–
klaus sat atop the bench while five sat across from lance who searched through the files. y/n stood in between the two, arms crossed and guarded as she watched everything over klaus' shoulder. her face still slightly hurt, hand print clearly visible.
lance nervously flicked through the file five was looking for before pausing as he read it.
"huh.. that's strange"
"what?" five snapped impatiently,
"uh the eye, it hasn't been purchased by a client yet" lance looked up at him now,
klaus jumped off the bench, stepping behind lance. "what? what do you mean?"
"well, our logs say that the eye with that serial number.." klaus stepped over to his other side and leaned over his left shoulder. "this can't be right, it hasn't even been manufactured yet. where did you get that eye?"
lance, klaus and y/n all looked to five. where did he get that eye?
————————————————–
he was a little older than she remembered but he was definitely the same boy that ran away all those years ago. he didn't answer her voice, not hearing her at all. she frowned, watching as he dug through what was left of the store. he was searching for something useful.
while he dug through scraps she went back to the beautiful mannequin. she was surprised at how it had managed to stay okay through all of this destruction around them. she reached a hand out to touch her before she heard five's voice. had he seen her?
"five" she smiled, turning to him only for him to walk right through her again. she frowned, why couldn't he see her? she tried to grab his arm but her hand only phased through. she was like a ghost.. where was she? where was five? "five, can you hear me?" she stood in front of him, trying everything to get his attention.
"five? five!" why couldn't she help him? she just wanted to help. she felt so useless, watching him walk around and gather materials. she couldn't speak to him, he couldn't hear her..
————————————————–
"well, this is not good" five breathed out in annoyance as they exited the building.
"i was pretty good though right? 'yeah, what about my consent, bitch?'" klaus grinned, giddy as they stepped out. y/n sighed at her brother, trailing behind.
"klaus, it doesn't matter" five snapped, stopping on the last step to glare at him. klaus stopped just after, turning to face him.
"what? what? what? what's the big deal with this eye anyway?" klaus carelessly threw his hand in the air, not at all bothered.
"there's someone out there who's going to lose an eye in the next seven days. they're going to bring about the end of life on this earth as we know it" five spoke seriously, stressed.
y/n's eyes narrowed. that's where he had been..
————————————————–
she felt herself being pulled away, like someone was tugging her. she fought, wanting to stay, she needed to help him. she needed to tell five he could get back, she could help him, she would.
she continued to call for him even though she knew it was useless. she wasn't able to help him no matter how hard she tried. she was like a ghost. five finally stopped rummaging, now noticing the mannequin behind her.
"how did you.." he spoke softly, he even sounded the same. god, she missed him. she almost broke down again as he walked through her, picking up the mannequin softly. just as y/n faded she reached her hand out, trying to touch him. her hand instead gripped the mannequin. she shouted in pain as she felt like she was being torn apart. she squeezed her eyes shut hoping the pain would stop.
when her eyes opened again she found herself in that same room with her father scowling down at her. he watched her for a moment, for once allowing her to calm down. she slowed her breathing, wiping away the tears on her cheeks, bitterly.
"report, number eight?" reginald asked, impatiently glaring.
"i.." she paused, she couldn't tell him. she would find five on her own if she had to but she couldn't tell him, she wouldn't. she was a failure. she couldn't tell him she couldn't do it, the punishment would be too great. "i didn't find him.."
reginald clicked his tongue in disappointment. "you are dismissed until further notice. training will not resume"
"what? but what about five-"
"number five is gone and you can do nothing to help him if you keep failing, number eight. you are too weak. you are dismissed" he snapped, narrowing his eyes, daring her to talk back again.
she stayed silent.
————————————————–
klaus paused before ignoring five's ominous tone, "yeah, can i get that twenty bucks like now or what?"
"your twenty bucks?" five stared at him in disbelief.
"yeah, my twenty bucks"
"the apocalypse is coming and all you can think about it getting high?" five got up in klaus' face, annoyed. how could he not care that the world was ending?
"hey, um.. five?" y/n tried to diffuse the situation before anything could happen. she didn't need another family fight.
"well, i'm also quite hungry" "tummys-a-rumbling, grr" klaus grinned, patting his stomach and imitating gurgling sounds.
"you're useless.." the boy clad in uniform mumbled, incredulous. "you're all useless!" he begun to walk away to the stairs of the building.
"five? hey, come on. i'm sure we can do something else to stop the-" y/n smiled softly, walking behind him, holding his blazer sleeve. klaus interrupted her.
"oh, come on, you need to lighten up, old man" he stayed where he was, exasperated. "klaus!" y/n scolded, sitting beside five only to be ignored. "hey, you know i've just now realised why you're so uptight! you must be horny as hell. all those years by yourself, that's gotta screw with your head, being alone" he acted sympathetic as he sat on five's other side. y/n rolled her eyes, he was definitely just doing this for his money.
"well, i wasn't alone" five stared off while he fiddled with his fingers.
"oh? pray tell" klaus turned, interested.
five looked up now, reminiscent. "her name was dolores, we together for over 30 years"
"30 years? oh wow, god, the longest i've been with someone was.. i don't know.. three weeks?" five's eyebrows furrowed, bored. he looked around for an escape. "and that's only because i was so tired of looking for a place to sleep-" he noticed a cab driving by and took y/n's hand before blinking into the cab. "he did make the most fantastic ossobuco though, it was.. five? y/n?"
the pair appeared the back of the cab, scaring the driver. "don't stop. just keep going" five instructed before leaning out the window and saluting condescendingly at klaus.
"hey, hey, hey, hey! what about my money?!" he shook his hand, angrily yelling at them.
————————————————–
"y/n, dear" grace smiled at her, standing in the doorway to the library. her siblings stood around their mother, all ready for bed. she was going to tuck them in. "it's bed time, come now, let's get you ready"
y/n stared at her books for a moment before ultimately sighing and following along. she brought two with her though. diego walked beside her, as grumpy as usual and only there because he was a mommy's boy. his eyebrows furrowed in confusion however at the books in her hands.
"why do you need books on physics and probability?" y/n looked up at him, surprised he was talking to her. usually her siblings ignored her now that she wasn't part of their missions. she stared at him for a moment, deciding whether to tell him or not. with a glance at the cameras in the room she decided against it.
"none of your business" she muttered quietly, curling her arms around the books, holding them to her chest. it gave diego a look at the equations written on her arm though. what was she up to?
he dropped it nonetheless. he didn't care too much if he was being honest, what she did was her business.. for now.
she was going to find him. she had to. with her books splayed out around her she made sure to stay to the quiet corner of the library, the one no camera in this house reached. loose sheets and notebooks filled with equations sat messily in front of her, decorating her wide array of books. if she could only tell five she could help him. he was surely smart enough to figure this out on his own but how long would it take him? she wanted him to come back sooner not later.
"come on, you can do this" she clenched her hands into fists, glowing white as she focused. her eyes turned black and she looked around. she couldn't move, she was stuck. she noticed five walking around but her body wouldn't do what she wanted it to. he walked over now however, did he finally see her? he smiled, taking a seat beside her. she noticed a book in his hand but she couldn't read what it was. he scribbled in it, focused. the only she noticed was that she was sat in red wagon, unmoving and unblinking. what was wrong with her?
five wrote down a few more numbers, showing her what he had written so far. it was similar to what sat beside her earlier. "i've almost got the equations dolores"
what..? her name wasn't dolores?
she gasped as she was shaken back to reality. looking up she found a concerned looking klaus with diego a few feet behind him.
"oh god" klaus sighed in relief as her eyes turned back to normal. "i thought you died or something"
"idiot, if she was dead her powers wouldn't have been working" diego scoffed although he too looked quite relieved she was okay.
"what were you doing?" klaus sat beside her now, staring at the numerous equations in front of him.
"what are you doing? shouldn't you be training or something?" she frowned, annoyed at having been caught and interrupted.
"we asked you first" diego countered, crossing his arms.
"i was practicing, nothing you should be concerned about" she waved it off, packing up her books and notes.
"it looks like a lot more than practicing, eight" he moved closer, stepping on the sheet she was about to pick up. he leaned over her, watching her carefully. she eyed him back, just as daring.
"you don't know what it looks like, two" she stated calmly, still holding the sheet.
"c'mon, y/n, just tell us what you're doing" klaus whined, "what are we gonna do? tell dad? we're not luther"
y/n snorted, remembering the jokes they used to make about luther sniffing dad's underwear. "fine, i was looking for five, dad stopped my training" diego stepped back now, confused.
"why would he stop your training?"
y/n paused, looking guilty. she glanced nervously between the two of them before waving them down towards her, whispering. "you can't tell anyone.. i lied to dad, i did find five"
"you're kidding" both boys stared at her in disbelief.
"why would you l-lie? w-w-w-what are you going to do if h-h-he finds o-out?!" diego freaked out now, his stutter coming out in his nervousness.
"he's not going to find out. he doesn't care about me now, i'm practically useless to him now" she shrugged,  continuing to stack her papers again. "besides i can't move or talk to five whenever i find him, i just.. exist. i'm like a ghost or something. i still need to figure out how to communicate with him" she sighed heavily. first, she wanted to figure out what book he was reading. she had never seen it before.
————————————————–
"what are we doing?" y/n and five stood outside the department store.
"i thought i said no questions until later" he raised an eyebrow at her. "we're just here to get something" she shrugged and he held her arm before blinking them inside. they walked around for a moment, using five's flashlight.
"oh my god! five look!" y/n gushed, noticing postcards on a stand. "they have so many cities!" he stared at her for a second, confused by her fascination before remembering she had never really left the house. she gasped suddenly, turning around and holding up a fluffy bunny keychain. "it's so cute!"
a small fond smile grew on five's face as she took interest in the small, almost useless items that the store had to offer. with a sad look she turned to him, still holding the white bunny keychain. "five.. can i keep it?"
he paused, he was about to take dolores so he didn't see why not. if he said no he would be hypocritical.
"fine. but don't touch anything else, okay? we can't risk getting caught" he nodded before walking away. y/n grinned, hooking the keychain into her belt loop before looking around.
five finally found dolores, looking up at her. "dolores.. it's good to see you"
"i've missed you, obviously.. well, it's been a rough couple of days" y/n couldn't see who he was talking to but heard his voice. she frowned, he had gone through a lot.
suddenly five yelled, "no!" and then there were gunshots. y/n dropped to the floor, praying five was alright. she ducked behind a gardening stand. five appeared beside her and she almost screamed. he held a finger to his lips, shushing her. she nodded, watching as he grabbed a spade, testing it's swing before disappearing again.
she watched as he fought one of the two shooters, slicing their arm before running again. she couldn't see him after that, not until he came back over with a bag, pulling her with him. they ducked down one of the aisles and he tried to spatial jump but it didn't work. he was too tired.
"shit.. come on!" he tried again. in a last effort they ran and jumped over a stall, caught as the lights from the guns shone on them like headlights. both five and y/n froze.
"got him" the one with the pink mask spoke before they were distracted by sirens. five used this to their advantage, pulling y/n out and away from the line of fire. they stayed behind a stand, waiting for the masked shooters to leave before they did themselves.
as they sat y/n finally got a good look at dolores, freezing when she realised she knew the mannequin.
"oh my god.."
"what?" five furrowed his eyebrows at her.
"you were in a relationship with.. a mannequin?" she looked up at him in disbelief. the mannequin was not her issue though.
"look, if you have a problem-" he glared, ready to defend himself but she shook her head.
"no, no. i get it.. it's just.. " she trailed off awkwardly.
"what?" he snapped, getting impatient.
"five.. my soul was in that mannequin"

Just A Favor
Tumblr media
Pairing: Carter Baizen x Reader
Words: 1300+
Author’s note: I hope you guys enjoy another Carter fic. I’m slowly working on the ones I have gotten started. I’m hoping to get more inspiration for them. So, enjoy!
Warnings: Fluff and we know that Carter is a warning himself
You felt irritation run through your body as you heard Carter shouting on the phone. Of all of the places he chose to take a phone call, it had to be the area you come to. For a good couple of months, this place had been quiet before he started showing up. He knows he irritates you. He loves to play with you and you don’t know what on earth you did to gain the attention of Carter Baizen.
You were broken out of your thoughts when you noticed a shadow above your book. You sighed before looking up to see Carter sitting across from you with a smirk on his face. “What do you want, Baizen?” You said before turning back to your book.
“I need a favor.”
You let out a dry laugh. “What makes you think I would help you with a favor? Why don’t you ask one of the girls you fuck around with.”
He ran a hand through his hair. “No, I, come on, you’re my only option.”
You closed your book before crossing your arms. “For?”
“Family party. My parents are more or less demanding I have a date and well, I figured it would be better if I showed up with someone who I haven’t fucked around with yet.”
You hummed and nodded slightly. “Yeah, no.” You said as you grabbed your books and got up from the table. Carter immediately followed you as you walked away. “Y/n please. Would you do me this one favor? It’s only for one weekend.” He said as he stood in front of you and grabbed your arms.
You looked at his hands before looking at him. “What exactly is in it for me? I’m not exactly one of those girls who wants to be caught with Carter Baizen.”
“I won’t bother you anymore. You won’t see me anymore and live your life Baizen free.” You smirked slightly. He smiled. “You like the sound of that?”
“Well, obviously.” You looked away as you tucked a piece of hair behind your ear. “Fine. I’ll do it. Don’t make me regret this, Carter.”
He smiled. “Thank you so much. First things first, I’m taking you shopping.” He said as he looked you up and down.
You frowned. “What?”
“Well you can’t show up to a party with the wardrobe you have. So,” he took out his phone and handed it to you. You gave him a slightly confused look. He rolled his eyes. “Give me your number and we’ll plan a time to go out.” You hesitated before putting your number in. “Thank you. Expect a date to be set.” He said before walking away.
-
You sighed as you looked at the store in front of you. “I can’t afford this.” You said quietly.
Carter stuck his hands in his pockets before shrugging. “Who said you were buying? Come on.”
You stared at Carter for a few seconds before following. “W-what? I can’t have you do that. I can’t pay you back.”
“You don’t have to pay me back.” He said as he looked you up and down again. He then turned back and grabbed a few dresses. When you grabbed one of the price tags, your heart dropped. “Stop looking at them.” Carter said as he glanced at you. “Now go try these on.”
You groaned as you modeled another dress for Carter. He hummed before shaking his head. “Seriously? What’s wrong with this one?”
“Nothing. Just not feeling it.”
“Not feel- Jesus Christ.” You said before going to change into the next dress.
“I can’t believe this is taking so long.”
You looked at the door separating the two of you in shock. “You can’t- are you fucking kidding me? You’re the one who brought me here to get a dress.”
He chuckled. “Touché.”
You took a breath before walking out in a long black dress. “How about this one?”
Carter stared at you for a few minutes before nodding. “This one is great. You look great.” You blushed slightly before smiling. Carter took the dress from your hands once you finished changing. He glanced at you as you played with your purse. “Want to get something to eat?”
You looked at him. “What?”
“Do you want to get food?”
“Oh, sure. I could eat.” He took the bag before leading you to the food court. You looked at Carter as he was telling you about the party. The two of you ordered what you wanted before going and sitting down. You looked at Carter. “Are you sure you want me going?”
Carter sighed. “For the last time, yes.”
-
You looked at Ella through the mirror. She gave you a smile as she did your hair. “I can’t believe you get to go to a party with Carter Baizen.”
You rolled your eyes. “I'm just doing it as a favor. Besides, he promised to leave me alone if I did it, so it’s a win for me.” You looked down at your vanity. It had been a few weeks since the shopping trip. You hated to admit it but you had fun that day. Ever since then, you and Carter have continuously been talking.
“Oh no. I know that look. You’re thinking about him aren’t you?”
Your cheeks turned a slight shade of pink. “I- no. I’m just thinking about tonight is all.”
Ella laughed before shaking her head. “Whatever makes you sleep at night, hon.” She finished the last touch before stepping back. “Go and get changed.” You got up and changed into the dress. Ella smiled. “You look so beautiful.”
You smiled as you stared at yourself. You haven’t felt this beautiful since, well forever. You grabbed your phone when you heard it buzz. You grabbed your stuff before facing your friend. “He’s here.”
“Good luck!” She said as you walked out to the car.
Carter smiled when he saw you. “Wow, you look even prettier than at the store.”
Your cheeks turned pink before smiling. “Thank you.”
-
You held onto Carter’s arm as you looked around the room. Everyone was dressed up and either catching up or talking about business. That is currently what Carter was doing. One of his father’s friends had stopped him to talk. “I see you have a beautiful date tonight.”
Carter smiled. “Yes, this is y/n.”
“It’s a pleasure.” The man said before turning his attention to someone else. Carter’s smile quickly faded and brought you to a more secluded part of the room. You let out a breath.
“Thank you. That was-”
“Suffocating? I know, I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
You shrugged. “It’s what I signed up for right?”
He let out a chuckle. “You know, I have never had fun at these things. You are making it more bearable.” You smiled before grabbing his hand. He looked over at you. He glanced down at your lips before he was called away. You giggled when he rolled his eyes before putting on a fake smile. You frowned slightly when you realized that this was going to end after tonight, that if you gained any feelings for him, it would just cause pain.
Carter noticed the distant look in your eyes. He excused himself before making his way back over to you. He placed a hand on your shoulder. “Are you okay?”
You looked up at him with tears in your eyes. “When this is over, I don’t want us to go our separate ways. I- it has been one of the most real thing I have felt in my life. I don’t want it to end.” Carter placed his hands on your cheeks. He placed a kiss on your forehead.
“We won’t.” He mumbled against your forehead. “It’s been real for me too.” You smiled before placing your hands on his chest. He smiled as well before pulling you into a kiss. “How about we get out of here.” He whispered against your lips.
“I’d like that.” You whispered back.

This is dark!mob!Clark Kent x reader and explicit. 18+ only.  Your media consumption is your own responsibility. Warnings have been given. DO NOT PROCEED if these matters upset you.
Synopsis: Your dream of having your work hung in an art show comes true but your first buyer is not all he seems to be.
Note: I’m at my tipping point, I swear. I’m dealing with everything in our household, new bed (delayed delivery yay!), cleaning, cooking, dog walking, and working. My only escape are my fics and this weekend I’m telling everyone to fuck off so I can do the writeathon... but sorry for the rant, enjoy more Clark.
Thanks to everyone for reading and thanks in advance for all your feedback. :)
I really hope you enjoy. 💋
<3 As usual, I’d appreciate if you let me know what you think with a like or reblog or reply or an ask! Love ya!
Tumblr media
Wednesday trickled by like sand in a glass. You could hardly keep your eyes open as you typed away and a double espresso shot was the only thing that saw you through your hours at the gallery. Vanessa was excited for her next event and already asking after some new pieces from you. You promised her some from your storage unit to stave her off as you held in your yawns.
You collapsed into bed that night beside Marcus. He complained about his day until he drifted off and you followed suit shortly after. You awoke with a decision, the echoes of your boyfriend’s gripes in your head and heart. You hated how miserable his job made him, how dull your own was. It felt like there was nothing else but the almighty dollar.
You called Clark after an email to Jim, your nerves alight in anticipation of the disgruntled reply. It didn’t matter. You were done. You didn’t need to worry about the all caps messages and curt zoom calls.
“Hey,” Clark picked up, he sounded out of breath.
“Oh, hey, sorry, it’s me,” you swiveled in your chair, “I hope I’m not disturbing you.”
“Nope, just getting in a work out,” he grunted, “you’re not bugging me if you have good news for me.”
“I think… I do,” you forced out, “I just sent in my resignation.”
“Mmm, you don’t sound… happy,” he hummed.
“I am, I think I’m just processing it,” you replied, “I said I’d let you know today so I’m letting you know.”
“Well, how soon can you be here?” he asked.
“Today?”
“Sure, why not?”
“I guess, I could leave as soon as you want me,” you said.
“I’ll send a car,” he intoned, “I’ll give the driver your number, if you don’t mind.”
“Yeah,” your voice almost squeaked, “I can do that.”
“Alright, sweetheart, see ya soon.”
The line cut out and you lowered your phone slowly. You stared at Outlook and the new email icon along the taskbar. You closed the laptop and stood. You could worry about the fallout later, right now, you had to get ready for another day of painting.
🎨
It was starting to feel like deja vu every time you arrived at Clark’s house. You got out and thanked the drive, Jeremy, before he drove off. The doors opened before you got to the top of the steps and your host was already dressed in the same outfit he wore for each session. His hair was neat but his beard was even thicker than before.
“I think you can tell I’m a little antsy to start,” he chuckled, “how are you, sweetheart?”
That pet name caught in your mind again. It might just be a habit of his. Nothing more than an absent-minded word.
“Me too, honestly,” you smiled, “but I have a weird question for you.”
“Ask away,” he said as he walked with you through the foyer.
“The beard… you want that in the portrait or--”
“Oh, ha, yeah,” he ran his fingers along his jawline, “I guess I wasn’t thinking. You’re the artist, what do you think?”
“Well, erm, either way is fine,” you said, “I was just… wondering. I’m not even close to starting on, uh, you yet. I mean, right now I’m just working on the background and basic shapes.”
“I’ll let you make the call when you get there,” he said, “say the word and it’s gone.”
“Alright,” you came to the top of the stairs and he pointed you ahead of him.
He followed you as you entered and you went about filling the jar with water and resituating the set up. He sat as you mixed and chose your brush. You climbed the ladder and peered around the canvas at him. He took on the same pose as usual and you dipped the bristles into the pigment. You could make a happy life of this.
🎨
Clark shifted and cleared his throat. You rolled your wrist and glanced back over at him as you drew your hand back from the canvas. He braced the chair and pushed himself up.
“How about a break?” he asked as he shook out his arms, “back’s a bit stiff.”
“Sure,” you said, “I think I could sit down for a moment.”
You took a step down the rung of the ladder but your toe slipped and suddenly your palette was against your chest. You slid down backwards as Clark rushed over and barely kept you from toppling the entire thing over. You laughed at yourself as he righted you and looked down at your paint-streaked shirt.
“Jesus,” you muttered.
“You okay?” he asked as he kept his hand on your upper arm, “be careful.”
“Yeah, I’m-- clumsy, is all,” you carefully pulled away and set down your brush and palette.
“Come on, sit,” he pulled up the stool and planted it before you, “take a minute.”
As you sat, he stretched his arms over his head and then out to the sides. He paced around the other side of the table, long strides as he worked the cramps from his long legs. He stopped and came up to play with a brush as you leaned an elbow on the table.
“Well, I did have another offer for you,” he said, “I was thinking of waiting but might as well ask now.”
“Oh?” you raised your brows curiously.
He swished a slender brush in the air then lowered it and picked at the tip.
“I’m having a get together on Saturday, some business friends and the like,” he said as he set the brush back with the rest, “it won’t be work. You’ve earned some time off. You can even bring the boyfriend.”
“Saturday?” you pondered, “I’m usually at the gallery on Saturdays.”
“It would be great networking,” he said, “and I already told all my friends about you. They’re excited to see your work. It will almost be like a viewing and it’s only right the artist is there.”
“I could make it work,” you mulled, “Marcus would love to come back.” You snickered, “he loves this place.”
“It’s a nice house,” he said casually, “a bit big for one person… hence, the party.”
“I’ll put it in my calendar,” you stood and slid your palette closer and cleaned it off to remix the mess of paints.
“Great,” he said as he rounded the table and brushed close to you, “it’ll be nice to look at a mug besides mine, huh?”
You laughed as you squeezed out the dark paint and nodded, “ha, sure.”
🎨
The rest of your week was spent much the same. Jeremy drove you to Clark’s and you went up to the studio to continue your work between small talk and silences that grew so thick you had to break them with mindless comments. It wasn’t enough to focus on the path of your brush as the man tugged at your attention.
Marcus was excited when you told him about the party. He raved about how he needed to let loose, about how much expensive alcohol he was going to drink, and the awesome backflip he was gonna do into the pool. You reminded him, he hadn’t done anything like that since college but he swore he could still do it.
You didn’t share the sentiment. You were anxious. You were flattered to be invited but despite what Clark said, it still felt like work. His friends were going to be there and he apparently was trying to sell them on your art.
You didn’t realise until after you hit send on your email, but you put your livelihood in this man’s hands. A man, you reminded yourself, who was little more than a stranger.
On Friday, a day you were thankfully not called to the mansion to teeter on the ladder and paint, the buzzer rang and drew you off the couch from amid your YouTube binge. The man on the speaker called back that he had a delivery and you let him up. You took the box from him, the thick silver ribbon giving away the sender even before you could read the tag.
Inside you found a black dress with little gemstones set into the fabric like stars in the sky. It was nicer than anything you’d ever owned before and a pair of silver shoes were tucked in beneath the outfit. You took the shoes from the tissue paper and something else shifted in the bottom.
You reached in and revealed a velvet box from the depths of overzealous stuffing. You opened the lid and found a simple chain of diamonds. You gaped in disbelief. They were real. The fake ones didn’t look so nice.
You phone chimed before you could even think to call Clark. It was as if he could see you. You answered and your voice warbled pathetically.
“Hi, I was just gonna call,” you touched your throat as it constricted.
“Yeah? I got the notification that it was delivered,” he said, “you like it?”
“It’s too much,” you gulped out, “really, I can’t--”
“I want you to look nice. I want you to feel good and have a good time,” he said, “I feel like you’ve been working so hard. You need a chance to just let it all go.”
“Look, I…” you were uncertain how to handle it. It was more than generosity but you felt wrong denying it as much as you did accepting it, “I’ve never had a boss buy me diamonds. At least let me give those back.”
“Boss?” he mused on the word, “I suppose, but you gotta dress the part now, sweetheart. You’re gonna rub shoulders with a lot of rich dicks like me. Pardon my language.”
“I didn’t realise it was such an upscale thing,” you put the velvet box down and turned to sit on the couch beside the large box. You played with the silver ribbon and chewed your lip.
“Sweetheart, it’s nothing, you got this,” he said, “trust me, if you can win me over, my friends will be child’s play.”
“Mhmmm,” you stared at the tv mindlessly, “Clark?”
“Yeah?”
“Why are you doing all this?”
There was silence and you heard him sigh then a subtle metallic click.
“Because I can. And you’re a talented artist. Didn’t all the big painters used to have patrons back in the day? You know, Da Vinci and all that.”
“Sure, I guess--”
“Look, sweetheart, I’m glad you like the dress, I gotta go.”
He hung up abruptly and you turned your phone to stare at it in confusion. You were starting to get a bad feeling and that little voice in that back of your head, that little sabotaging bitch, whispered in your ear. No, you wouldn’t let your self-doubt get the best of you this time. You either grabbed this chance or you spent the rest of your life doing menial work and painting the world as it passed you by.
🎨
Friday night, Marcus couldn’t stop rambling about the party the next day. You just couldn’t get over the tickle in your chest, the same one you got before job interviews and doctor’s appointments. You were on edge, even as you spent your stress on him, your body writhing against his as you panted and pouted. It had been a while since you fucked. All the work and the stress had just let things slip past you. Maybe with your new gig, you could get back to those early days when it was all you wanted to do.
You slept soundly. You blamed the sex and the momentous week. You got up, had a lazy brunch time meal, and beat Marcus at MarioKart several times over before he convinced you it was time to get ready.
You pulled on the gifted outfit after fighting with your make-up and hair. You gave a little tada spin to Marcus and he lifted his brow as he tried to figure out his tie.
“Wow, where’d you get that?” he purred, “fuck, let’s be late.”
He ran his hands over your hips as you neared him and fixed his tie for him. You giggled and planted a kiss on his lips.
“Jeremy’s on his way,” you warned, “I don't wanna bite the hand that feeds.”
“Oh, and it feeds you well,” Marcus chirped, “you think he’ll let me have a spin in the McClaren?”
“Maybe, but I wouldn’t. I don’t need to scrape you off the side of the road,” you took your phone as the screen lit up, “come on, he’s here.”
“Fuck, babe, really, you’re gonna make me follow you out of here with your ass looking like that?”
“Stop,” you tittered, “you know, there might be more sellers tonight?”
“Oh yeah? I guess you’ll be paying a mortgage soon enough.”
“Me?” you scoffed.
“Sure, I’ll be your sugar baby,” he kidded.
“Well, baby is accurate,” you teased as you stepped onto the elevator, “please, just behave.”
🎨
You were surprised to see Vanessa at the party but reassured to see a familiar face. Clark had been distracted by his other guests and you did your best to mingle, letting Marcus take the lead until he was distracted by another guest’s Rolex and started asking too many questions. If you did start selling art to these kinds, you suspected you’d be paying for a lot of overpriced brands. That was a worry for another time.
You stood with Vanessa and a man she introduced you to. Bruce Wayne was tall and his dark-hair was combed back neatly as he spoke over the glass of wine in his hand. You were bored of the Monet-Manet argument, one you’d heard a million times from the stubborn gallery owner, and you were at your limit of socialisation.
You excused yourself and put down your unfinished drink on a table. You looked around but couldn’t see Marcus anywhere. The last you saw him, he was with Clark but you couldn’t find him either. You frowned and wandered between the pairs and trios gabbing around the room.
Just past the bar, you looked back and still no sign of either man. You huffed and your heels clicked into the foyer and to the stairs. You’d go to the studio and sit for a moment and collect yourself. You just needed to take a breath.
You climbed the stairs slowly, the din of the party floating up behind you. You came to the top but stopped as your eyes were drawn to a pair of open doors opposite the studio. You neared and stayed against the wall as you peeked inside. Marcus admired an old-six shooter and spun the barrel.
“You got everything, man, I swear,” you hid behind the door frame and listened.
“Eh, it’s all just things,” Clark replied, “I bought that from an auctioneer down in Texas. A verified antique but it just hangs here. Not good for much but looking at it.”
“Dude, what I wouldn’t do to live here? Have cool guns and even cooler cars? Shit, you know how fucked it is that my lady is making bank and I’m over here with my dick in my hands? I mean, I’m proud of her but… I mean, if I could get paid thousands for drawing, I would’ve tried to learn.”
“She’s good. Dedicated,” Clark remarked, “she’s special. Worth more than money.”
Marcus hummed and you heard the barrel click back into the place. Neither of the men spoke as you heard something shift and Clark cleared his throat. Subtle footsteps moved around the room and you pressed yourself to the wall. You should leave and let them talk but you couldn’t help but be curious.
“Isn’t she?” Clark prodded.
“Y-yeah, but… I don’t know. I just wish I had more,” Marcus said, “I probably sound like a chump, huh?”
“You can’t have it all,” Clark replied.
“Says the guy who can buy anything and everything,” Marcus moped.
“Oh?” Clark intoned, “so… how about it then? Fifty thousand.”
“For what?” Marcus chuckled nervously.
“Her,” Clark answered.
“Her-- I… my girlfriend?” he sputtered.
“If money can buy me anything, that’s what I want,” Clark said firmly, “it’s a one time offer… whether or not you agree to it, I’m gonna fuck her.”
You skin crawled at his words and you covered your mouth in disgust and shock. You inched closer to the door to hear better as you waited for the response.
“One hundred,” Marcus said.
“Seventy-five,” Clark countered.
“That’s my girlfriend, dude,” Marcus hissed.
“And yet you’re haggling with me over her. Eighty.”
You tore yourself from the wall before you could hear anymore. You felt hollow and heavy all at once. Your eyes were glossy as you scurried over to the studio doors and pushed the left one open. You unhooked the diamond necklace and tossed it onto the paint-stained palette and rolled up your brushes.
You stormed over blindly to the easel and pushed it over. It clattered to the floor loudly but you were already out the door and halfway down the stairs. You gripped your clutch and the bundle of paintbrushes tightly as you continued on outside and the blurred outlines of luxury cars passed you by.
You stomped up the long drive in your heels as you flicked away tears and pulled out your phone. You knew it was too good to be true. Any of it; your art, Clark, Marcus. You weren’t good for anyone unless they could get something out of you.

the great adventures of y/n tommy jack tubbo and george
requested yes/no
part 5 of the great adventures series
summary: training for the military
warning: cursing
AN: really sorry about this tumblr won’t let me change/add paragraphs so could look very weird
the journey there was quick for you, you spent the trip asleep in the back of the car whilst the others were discussing what you were all about to do “How difficult do you think it’s going to be” “dude it’s a military assault course” you woke up halfway there to the noise of the radio playing “afternoon y/n”“afternoon sorry I fell asleep I’m not used to being woken up early in the morning, I blame you guys and ranboo”“y/n have you ever wanted to join the military” “I can't say I have no” “well you’re going to love what we’re doing” “what are we doing” “you’ll see!”
you stood picking up more rocks and handing them to tubbo whilst Tommy and George began to film the introduction to the vlog “were in the jungle” confused you turned to tubbo “psst tubbo what the fuck are we doing, why are we in a woods” before tubbo had time to answer Tommy already began to answer your question telling you that you’re all training for the military, not taking him seriously you started laughing as you all were walking it was only when you were handed a jumpsuit to cover your clothes you realised it wasn’t a joke, you would be lying if you said you were ready for this, after all, you spent your free time playing Minecraft you wasn’t exactly great at sports
you managed to put the jumpsuit on pretty quickly unlike Tommy who was quite clearly struggling to get it on over his trainers “come on sergeant simons were doing a military assault course and you’re struggling to put on the clothes”after struggling to put clothes on the five of you stood together getting photos whilst you all looked decent “me and my boys in the jungle” “This isn’t going to go well” “we’re going to destroy it” “NO”
you hadn’t even reached the course yet and you were already tripping up over rocks and sticks that were on the muddy trail “we’re walking to our deaths..y/n is already falling over” “Hey I didn’t sign up to do exercise” once you finally reached the start of the course you were met with a canon, a dog and a man in a yellow jumper you stood as a team listening to what you were about to do and how you were actually a team of six, you hoped he meant the dog was a team member but no turns out the canon was the sixth member
“We have to take the canon with us” “...and take it apart into six pieces at each obstacle and rebuild it ” you handed your phone to the Russ, not trusting yourself to keep it on you especially since you were already tripping up before reaching the assault course “thank you” “good luck” “huh” you didn’t have time to process what was said as Mr military began counting down from three, the five of you ran to the first obstacle tubbo dragging the canon Tommy climbed over the net first with tubbo following after “What happens if I fall” it was as though you and tubbo had read each other’s mind as you both responded with “you’ll die” “death” you climbed over next with a wheel “reckon I can slide down the net” “that will hurt y/n don’t do- and you’re already doing it” you slid down the net despite George telling you not to do so, it didn’t take too long for the others to get over, you all began reassembling the canon “can we talk about our feelings” “I feel like shit I jumped out of a plane not long ago now I feel like I’m doing PE all over again” “Y/N JUST HELP BUILD THE CANON” “I'M TRYING ODDLY ENOUGH I'M NOT BUILT FOR THE MILITARY”once the canon was built Tommy and tubbo ran off with it “who’s going to tell them we need to test it” once Mr military shouted they ran back “why do we have to do this” “it’s the fucking rules Tommy and life is full of them” “like taxes” “tax fraud” a few seconds later the five of you yelled “bang” neither of you saying it at the same time “it didn’t work” “yes it did now come on”
you all ran towards the next obstacle, a giant wall. you all quickly dismantled the canon, Tommy went over first and began bickering with Mr military about him not being his dad whilst you tubbo and jack struggled to pass over the heaviest part of the canon “lift and lift” “really George? I thought we could just throw it over and hope he catches it” “Please don’t do that” “I am very sorry George but I'm struggling here” you continued your struggling tubbo tried to help Tommy through his words “you’re strong bossman I believe in you” “by the way, you really picked the shortest people to do this” part of the canon landed with a thud “welp hope he’s not dead” you climbed over next again carrying the wheel “he’s not dead guys don’t worry” you laughed as George took his time getting over the wall “I'm poving” “GET OVER THE WALL” you all stood questioning what time you were on completely forgetting that you were supposed to reassemble the canon “This is going to be embarrassing” “you guys could be rebuilding the canon” you could have built and tested the canon quickly however Tommy George and tubbo began telling people to subscribe whilst you built the canon with jack “we’re so good at this” “heh maybe not” you all test-fired the canon and made your way to the next obstacle
you were sent to go over the rope first, this was extremely difficult for you, the rope kept swaying as you walked causing you to lose your balance on multiple occasions “step on the V” “I’m going to fall” you made it over after a couple of minutes, like tubbo you also felt a bit ill, you assumed it was because it was quite hot and a lot was going on “how you feeling y/n” “Honestly, I’m jealous of ranboo, he’s at home living his best life and I’m in the middle of the woods overheating and climbing but no it’s pretty funny watching the others” you laughed as you overheard tubbo talking about how they’re only three obstacles in and how he’s going to die “YOU GOT THIS TUBBO!” Tommy crossed next, like you, he took his time he was then followed by tubbo who was trying to speed run walking over the rope you waited for jack and George cheering them on whilst Tommy was asking around for water and complaining about wearing a gamer hoodie. at this point, everyone seemed unmotivated “3 2 1.. bang”
“oh lovely..tires” tubbo went through first with the heaviest part of the canon “ill help you tubbo” you following behind helping him carry it due to it being stupidly heavily “so how are you tubbo” “AAAAAAAAAAA” “aye me too bud” you and tubbo decided that from now you two were going to work as a pair so it would be easier for you both, over the past few weeks tubbo became one of your closest friends the pair of you even started trending on Twitter as you did an irl stream where you both went on a walk at the beach and met several fans. whilst you and tubbo were making your way through Tommy jack and George we’re trying to figure out who should take what. “there’s piss in this one” “what the fuck?!” the pair of you finally got out from the tires “good job you two” “thank you” you rested your head on tubbos shoulder trying to get your breath back “I don’t think I’m made for the military” a few moments later Tommy made it to the tire full of water and put his finger in it “PEE” “Tommy why-” you stood looking around at the scenery, the sound of Tommy yelling about crawling away from George and that he’s ‘touched the piss’ was enough the drag you away from your own thoughts, you watched the others struggling to get through the tires and was amazed at the fact tubbo went back in to help them. you tried to ignore Tommy and George being dramatic as you tried to figure out how many more obstacles you had to go but you got distracted by George “ill just eat you if you die” “Mr military I’d like some help right about now” you walked over to Tommy and helped him get out of the tires “thanks y/n” “welcome” “how you doing bossman you know I pulled through your part...what are you doing that’s George's water” Tommy decided to throw the bottle to you so you could have a drink as he remembered you’d not had a drink since you landed from jumping out of the plane “Thanks, Tommy” “YOU BOTH DRANK GEORGES WATER” “he can drink the piss” “what Tommy said” you laughed as you walked over to where jack was in the tires “ HI JACK” “Jesus christ you scared me, hi y/n” you stood waiting for everyone to finish “I know exactly what the slowest time was” “we’re going for a new record it’s fine” “of being the slowest?” “yeah” “you know what Mr military ill clart you” “you’ll what me” “I’m gonna just go over here” you walked over to where parts of the canon were and got ready to assemble it again whilst George began throwing water over jack and tubbo to bless them then did the same to Tommy, you hid behind a tree thinking he wouldn’t notice you, however, he did and within a minute you too had water poured on you “Thanks, I was thirsty” “oh we know” “The fuck is that supposed to mean” “HELP BUILD THE CANON PLEASE” like last time you all built the canon tested it and ran to the next obstacle
“can we just you know drag the already built canon under there with us” “absolutely not” “I tried” you all disassembled it again and like last time you and tubbo went first crawling under “I don’t want to alarm you all but it is soaking wet in here” “delightful” a few moments later you were both working well “tubbo I’m scared of the dark and it’s pitch black” “you’ve got this bossman we’re almost done” you calmed down quickly until Tommy decided to jump above the pair of you
“SORRY” “TOMMY I SWEAR TO GOD” “YOU DICK” you laughed slightly and tubbo checked up on you “you okay?” “I'm fine if you’re fine” “come on let’s finish this thing” the pair of you continued and finished relatively quickly tubbo got out first “NEVER AGAIN” “Sorry about that buddy” “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU” you helped push part of the canon out so tubbo could easily drag it out he then reached out so you could hold his hand and help pull you out “I've never been so happy to see the light” the pair of you sat on the floor waiting for the others to finish, you both made a bet on who was going to laugh first somehow you won as tubbo laughed at George and jack struggling to crawl through “YOU LAUGHED” “OH SHITTT” Russ came over to you both whilst recording so he could ask about how everything’s going “I’m covered in mud and the jumpsuit is wet, it isn’t a good day for the y/n community it was dark as hell in there “Tommy is a dick and tried to kill me and y/n” “I DIDN'T TRY TO KILL YOU BOTH” “I think he heard us” “WE ALL DID WERE NOT DEAF” “NO, BUT ACCORDING TO INSTAGRAM YOU'RE DEAD” you stared directly into the camera “sometimes it’s like I still hear jack talking to me” George and jack started complaining about how much further the is to go and how it was dirty and Tommy's response about being sorry it doesn’t fit their tory lifestyle made you burst out laughing “YOU LAUGHED” “tubbo my beloved you laughed ages ago you’ve already lost” “But we’re equal now” “no” the pair of you stood bickering to the point you didn’t realise the others had finished the obstacle and were shouting for you to test the canon “Y/N TUBBO WE NEED TO TEST THE CANON” the pair of you ran over “3 2 1 BANG”
“just going to warn you all you see that black cloud over there” “oh yay a storm is coming” you grabbed a wheel and followed behind jack across the wooden bridge “y/n he’s been splintered” “oh no poor George” “these are my gaming fingers” “no gaming for you I guess” “Stop talking about gaming dickheads” you spent a lot of time talking to George and jack whilst crossing over trying not to fall over you all even made a few plans to stream a laugh and the stream ends on jacks channel soon
you were all building the canon again whilst being informed you weren’t even halfway through and already 40 minutes in “high score” “well it’s definitely high” “Y/N??” “coming tubbo hang on my shoelace came undone” after tying your shoelace you grabbed a wheel and caught up to tubbo “if you go over tubbo ill pass it over to you and we can keep doing that” this method worked well for you both tubbo would climb over you would pass the wheel and middle part of the canon then climb over and repeat the process you heard Tommy in the background complaining about the fact he’s wearing jeans and jacks response “Yeah but I’m wearing jeans” “tubbo and y/n are almost done and you’re complaining about jeans” “jean boy pops off” “I'M WEARING JEANS AS WELL QUIT COMPLAINING” “Can we just go home and play smash bros” “Tommy this was your idea I didn’t even get on an option” “Sorry about that y/n but you get to spend time with me and gogy” “lucky me” you weren’t going to lie this was hard work and you were exhausted you felt like you could just fall asleep right where you were stood however tubbo wasn’t going to let that happen “I’m never going on an adventure with Tommy again” “me either” this of course was bullshit and you were both going on another adventure soon you stood watching your friends struggle to get over the obstacles you decided to offer your support and went to help jack and George using a similar method to that you used with tubbo “thanks y/n” “anytime” “y/n you could have helped me, tubbo pulled me over I could have been injured” “very sorry to hear that sergeant simons sucks to suck I guess” you all reassembled the canon tested it and ran to the next obstacle “I hate it here” “there’s a storm on the way” “Thanks, y/n for the input” “welcome George” you all noticed the net luckily you didn’t have to disassemble the canon this very well could be because you were running far behind and a storm was on its way. you watched as the others went through and joked about tubbo losing his shoe and Tommy getting stuck, this obstacle wasn’t made for you either as you kept getting caught on the net “I'VE BEEN CAUGHT AGAIN” jack lifted the net for you again so you could easily crawl through “thank you jack” you all then made it to the next obstacle Tommy crawled on the metal bars with you following after him whilst George used the monkey bars once you all made it across you had to walk across many metal planks used to form a bridge Tommy walked close behind you knowing you were extremely clumsy and didn't want you to fall “irl nettles” “The fuck are you on about Tommy I don’t think you’re following my advice about going outside” you all dissembled the canon as you got to the tires the only difference this time was you needed to climb over them “it’s rather windy” “there’s dirt in my eye” like before you and tubbo used the same method “look at them go” “I LIKE A DA BEE” “I'M SCARED OF BEES” “oh okay” “Why do they keep taking the plank” “I don’t know tubbo just takes it and y/n follows” you both finished rather quickly and neither of you got injured or fell “really good job you two” “thank you Mr military” you stood leaning on tubbo watching George pick up random rocks and put them into his pocket similar to what you had been doing the entire way around the course “I don’t think George or y/n have been outside before they keep picking things up like souvenirs” “Y/N GEORGE HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN THE RAIN BEFORE” both of you just stared at Tommy making him laugh you helped the others get across the tires and even helped prevent Tommy from falling a couple of times. unfortunately, you ended up twisting your ankle but tried to ignore it not wanting to ruin the vlog for anyone, not that you would have, however it was clear you were in pain as you had started limping. one at a time you all crossed the rope “This is me climbing I am climbing” you cheered everybody on and then it was your turn
unlike the others the rope kept shaking as you walked across mainly because you were scared of falling and in pain all whilst trying to rush, this was clearly your least favourite obstacle of the day “take your time y/n don’t fall” “thank you jack I'm trying my best I promise” once at the end of the rope, Tommy took the wheel off you and helped you get down and pulled you into a quick side hug “you’re doing great let’s go we’re almost done” you knew your friends wouldn’t make you continue if you really didn’t want to however you were nearly finished and was determined to finish. you all reassembled the canon and made your way to the next obstacle
“there’s no way we’re getting through that without twanging a rope” “good luck” you and tubbo made your way through the ropes trying not to hit them, this proved to be a pretty impossible task and you ended up twanging the ropes several times, this mixed with everyone else’s failure to cross without hitting the rope meant you all had to do 20 push-ups, after reassembling the canon twice as you all didn’t do it correctly the first time and testing it you all had to do the push-ups “I’m sure y/n and George only did 3” “sorry bossman”
you all were finally making your way to the last obstacle determined to finish “Big Russ can we go to McDonald's after this” “sure” the five of you cheered and ran the last obstacle quickly disassembling the canon, you led the way over the obstacle tubbo Tommy jack and George following behind you, despite tubbo losing his shoe and George going backwards the five of you quickly completed the obstacle and reassembled and tested the canon running over to the finishing line
you all finally completed it and waited for your result “45 minutes easily” “1 hour 11 minutes and 46 seconds” “no way that’s a world record” “well we tried” the five of you stood telling people to subscribe before ending the recording and making your way back to the car
the car ride back felt a lot longer than the way there. you were all exhausted
“how’s your ankle” “it’s not too bad it’ll probably hurt more tomorrow morning”
“I'm still not over Tommy trying to kill me and tubbo” “I didn’t try to kill you” “sure” the rest of the journey was chaos you all screamed along to the songs on the radio eventually you all got to McDonald's and spent the rest of the night enjoying each other’s company.

— you almost get hit by a car.
sakusa, kenma, + kuroo.
+ Kind of just a general request- could you do more of the close call type pieces? Like where reader almost got hit with a car with characters like Sakusa Kenma and Kuroo? If not that’s fine ^^
another version of this.
Tumblr media
— sakusa kiyoomi.
› you had your arms tucked behind your back as you walked beside him
› he had his hands buried in his pockets, staring straight ahead
› but you knew he was listening intently as you talked animatedly about this and that
› but he remained quiet otherwise
› an oncoming group of people blocked the sidewalk, causing you to go around your boyfriend, trying to keep on the sidewalk
› but the inconsiderate people wouldn’t make room
› your foot slid off the side of the curb, making you lose your balance
› you fell straight down onto the pavement, halfway in the lane with a car coming toward you
+
you heard tires squeal and squeezed your eyes shut, expecting to feel pain.
but instead, you felt nothing.
slowly, your eyes opened and sakusa was running towards you, calling your name. he didn’t care that you had mud on your shirt, he yanked you into his arms. you could hear his heart pounding against his chest, shoulders heaving as he panted -- anxiety coursing through him.
“are you okay?” he asks finally, tugging you onto the sidewalk.
your body is trembling, he can feel it. you don’t even realize you’re crying until he’s pulling your face into his neck, cupping the back of your head, cooing softly to you.
“don’t cry, you’re okay,” he assures, “you’re alright. let’s go home, okay?
you nod and let him wrap his arm around you, intent on protecting you as you make your way home. he refuses to let you see how terrified he was, forcing his trembling body to stop.
all he wanted now was to get you home and hold you as tight as he can.
Tumblr media
— kozume kenma.
› he sat on a bench, engrossed in a game he was playing on his switch
› you had ran across the street to a little convenience store to get some drinks while he waited
› as you exited the store, you failed to look both ways, too excited to show your boyfriend about a new flavor of drink you’d found
› the stupid move caused you to run out in front of a car, not noticing as you called your boyfriends name
› he looked up, only to feel the entire world freeze around him
› he watched in slow motion as the car came towards you, you rooting inside the bag as you jogged across the road
› the car honking caused you to look up, eyes wide in horror
+
he’s on his feet by the time the car passes. his heart is racing so hard he feels breathless. you had managed to react in time, stumbling back as the car passed by.
kenma checked that it was clear before racing towards you, grabbing your arm and hauling you to your feet. you gasp, trembling knees struggling to keep up with him. he shoves you onto the bench he had been on just a minute ago.
“are you crazy?!” he cries, more alarmed than you have ever heard him, “don’t you think before doing shit like that?!”
“i-i’m sorry...” you whimper, curling in on yourself.
your emotions are running wild as the adrenaline wears off. his sharp tone and angry glare are enough to have tears falling down your cheeks. your boyfriend softens immediately, tugging your face into his shoulder to let you cry.
“i...i shouldn’t have shouted. i’m sorry,” he whispers, “just...please never do that again.”
Tumblr media
— kuroo tetsurou.
› it was dark, nighttime having long since fallen since the two of you went to dinner together
› you waited at a crosswalk, waiting for it to turn green
› he was grinning, kissing the top of your head as you clung to his arm
› as soon as it turned green, you both proceeded across the crosswalk
› almost immediately, headlights enveloped the two of you, a horn blasting as if it were your fault you were in the crosswalk on green
› you could hear kuroo cursing and clenched your eyes shut on reflex, knowing you wouldn’t be able to react fast enough
+
before you can think about whats happening, you’re yanked into your boyfriends chest. you cry out as he stumbles back, his back hitting the ground. he cries out at the pain, cradling you protectively in his chest.
“jesus christ!” kuroo yells, sitting up quickly, intent on getting you both out of the street, “wish i got that bastards license plate, he could have killed us!”
once you’re both on the other side of the street, your knees give out. kuroo doesn’t catch you in time, too busy glaring at the vanishing car. when you hit the ground and begin crying, he’s quick to scoop you up into a hug.
“hey, you’re not hurt, are you?” he asks.
you shake your head and look up at him tearfully, “i-if you hadn’t reacted so fast--”
“hey.” he snaps, kissing the top of your head, “don’t think like that. we’re both okay. let’s just go home now, alright?”
you nod and let him pull you to your feet. as you begin the walk home, he makes sure not to show you just how terrified he was. mentally, he thanked his years of playing on nekoma for his cat-like reflexes.
if not for that then...
he shakes his head, holding you close.

Project V Masterlist ||  MAIN MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“You keep on glancing at me, Bucky. What do you want?”
You kept your attention on your notes as you called out Bucky. The two of you were in the library, it was a little past seven in the evening already but you needed to finish the paper you were doing.
Bucky exhaled out loud and surveyed the surroundings before moving around the table to sit beside you. You looked at him suspiciously, the growing smile on his face giving away that he had something mischievous in mind.
“What?” You asked again.
Bucky bit his lip and shook his head in sudden embarrassment, “Nevermind. I’m shy.”
You slapped his arm, “Just tell me!” You hissed, stretching your neck to see whether the grumpy librarian heard.
She didn’t and kept on rearranging the books on the opposite aisle.
“Okay, so you know how we’ve been comfortable with each other.” Bucky trailed.
“Where is this going, Buck?” You asked monotonously.
Bucky giggled as he tried to compose himself. He was turning red all over and you instantly knew what he was thinking about. It definitely had something to do with his weird ass kinks.
“I’m not gonna peg you, Buck.” You said.
“The fuck, I don’t...I’m not into that, okay?! It was just one weird dream. Can we please move on from that?” He defended himself.
You snorted. Bucky dreamt about you pegging him one time and you never stopped teasing him about it. It was funny as hell, because Bucky called you in the middle of the night to talk about his dream and he couldn’t get over how weird it felt.
“Then what do you want?” You asked, setting aside your notes.
Bucky licked his lips and inhaled, “I watched this porn the other night where the girl still had her panties on and the guy was just you know...rubbing his dick against her pussy until he came. I don’t know, something about pushing aside her panties got to me. I was thinking that maybe—“
“Yes, okay. I’m in.”
Ever since Project V, you and Bucky have been going at it as often as possible. Needless to say, you were one horny bitch and match that with Bucky’s libido, well, you’d get two best friends humping at each other like fucking rabbits.
Bucky did seem to ruin other guys for you because damn, he knows how to turn you on. Except for the times when he’s being a dumbass but whatever, he always gave you one orgasm after another.
“Wanna go at it now?” Bucky whispered, pupils darkening as soon as you agreed to his proposal.
“I’m wearing my granny panties, can I at least change first?” You asked with no shame.
“For the love of fucking, can you please get rid of your granny panties?” Bucky complained.
“They’re comfy. Besides, I never complained about your Spongebob boxers.” You snapped back and started putting away your things.
-
As soon as the both of you arrived in Bucky’s dorm, bags were dropped and jackets were thrown around. Bucky wasted no time to push you against the door, kissing you sloppily as he fumbled with the button of your jeans.
“We gotta be fast, Buck. We have a class in an hour.” you reminded him, shimmying out of your jeans before clawing at Bucky’s shirt.
He merely grunted in response as he took off his shirt followed by his own pair of pants. Your shirt and bra were removed in the process and the next thing you knew, Bucky was already throwing you on top of his bed.
“Wanna bet?” he asked against your lips before kissing you. “Twenty dollars I get to make you cum in fifteen.” he said, biting your lower lip before pressing kisses against your throat.
You sighed, stretching your neck to give Bucky more access. A moan left your lips when his fingers pinched your nipples, making your back arch from his bed.
“No penetration. You can’t use your mouth or fingers. Just your cock rubbing against my pussy. If you cum within the first fifteen minutes, I win.” you reminded him with a glare. “You good with that?” you asked.
“Only if you let me skip the condom.” Bucky said as he looked at you with puppy eyes. “Please?”
You narrowed your eyes at him, “Fine, but buy me a Plan B after this. I don’t want no little Barnes in my fucking tummy anytime soon.”
Bucky grinned and pumped his fist in the air, “I’ll buy you birth control pills too so I can fuck you raw next time.”
“Jesus.” you huffed out.
Bucky smirked and sat up, “It’s just me, Bucky.” he said as he knelt down on the bed, bending your legs up and spreading them wide open.
“Twenty dollars.” you repeated. “Seal the deal. Let’s pinky swear on it.” you said as you lifted your body up to twist your pinky around Bucky’s.
After the pinky promise, Bucky spread your thighs further apart and carefully pushed your white cotton panties aside, moaning out loud at the sight of your glistening pussy. You snorted at his reaction and covered your mouth with your hand, throwing your head back as you bit back your laugh.
“What’s so funny?” he asked, pushing his boxer briefs down to reveal his aching cock.
“You’re so fucking horny.” you said. “You should see yourself.” you quickly added.
Bucky rolled his eyes at you until he hatched an idea, “Maybe I should. Let’s make an amateur video next time.”
You were about to protest to his idea when he immediately slid his cock against your folds, your complaint quickly dying on your tongue when he started to tap the head of his cock against your clit. You fell back onto the bed and arched your back, wanting to feel more friction as your pussy clenched on nothing.
“Fuck, Bucky...” you whimpered.
Bucky kept his gaze on his cock as he rubbed it against your folds, watching how your wetness was gushing out of your entrance as he teased you. His own pre-cum was mixing against your juices, making it easier for him to slide against your cunt. The sight was just as stimulating as the ones he’d seen on PornHub, but it felt so much fucking better now that he was actually experiencing what it’s like.
“Goddamn, baby.” Bucky grunted. “So fucking wet.” he said through gritted teeth as he sped up his face.
His free hand held onto your panties, keeping it aside as he guided his cock along your folds. Bucky pressed the tip against your entrance, teasing you by prodding a bit before pulling back to let it slide up to your clit.
“Bucky, ten minutes...” you warned. “Ten minutes and I get my twenty bu— oh!” you almost squealed when Bucky started moving his cock from side to side, stimulating your clit even more.
You wanted to kick Bucky’s face when he smirked, knowing that he was working you up. Throwing a pillow on your face, you started grinding your hips to get as much friction.
“Take off the pillow, wanna see your face.” Bucky demanded, grabbing the pillow and throwing it aside.
He started thrusting his hips, placing your panties over his dick as he continued to rub it against your pussy. The fabric only added more pleasure for Bucky, as it kept his cock pressed tightly against your sex which was soaking wet.
Bucky sped up his pace, pressing his cock harder against your lips until you could feel yourself approaching your orgasm. You tried to hold back, not wanting to lose the bet. And so you decided to do something that might throw Bucky off and make him finish first.
“Love it when you rub your cock against my pussy like that, Bucky.” you moaned out loud, your hands caressing your sides until they reach your tits, squeezing them together.
Bucky was unable to hold back his groan, “I fucking hate you, I know what you’re trying to do.” he panted, slowing down his pace.
You bit your lower lip and tilted your head as you looked up at Bucky through your lashes, “Come on, Bucky. Keep rubbing, feels so good when I feel the head of your cock press down on my clit. I get so fucking wet.” you moaned again, this time letting you fingers play with your nipples.
“Dammit...” Bucky huffed out, pushing your panties aside again and actually ripping them in the process with how harsh he held onto them.
“Did you just-- oh fuck! Right there, fuck yeah. Don’t stop, Bucky!” you squealed when Bucky rubbed your pussy just the right way.
“Gonna make you cum first and I’m gonna get my twenty bucks.” Bucky said, watching how much wetness was gushing out of your entrance, drenching his cock in its entirety.
Determined to win, you slightly sat up and leaned your weight against your elbows. You could feel Bucky’s cock throb against your cunt, his hips stuttering and the veins on his neck bulging. He was close, so fucking close.
You were just as close to winning the bet so you pulled the big guns and placed two fingers into your mouth, sucking on them while keeping your eyes on Bucky.
You moaned out loud, just enough to catch Bucky’s attention and when his head snapped towards yours, you hollowed your cheeks as you sucked on your fingers. The sight was enough to make Bucky cum first; he groaned and growled as ropes of his cum began to spurt on your pussy.
“Goddammit!” Bucky grunted, both in bliss and disappointment that he had lost the bet.
You started chuckling in victory, falling back down on the bed and ignoring the growing throb in your pussy since you haven’t finished yet.
“I win!” you declared.
Bucky ran a hand through his locks as he plopped down next to you, “All that for just twenty bucks?” he asked.
You sat up and shrugged, “Twenty bucks is twenty bucks.” you said and looked down in between your legs, “Are you going to finish me or what?” you asked.
Bucky snorted, “Bold of you to assume I’d finish you after I lost the bet.” he said, reaching towards the box of tissue on top of his bedside table and handing it to you.
“Fine, I’ll do it myself then.” you said, cleaning up yourself before heading towards the bathroom. “You owe me an underwear.”
-
With twenty minutes left before your next class, you and Bucky have showered and cleaned up.
“Why is this so thick?” you complained when Bucky let you wear one of his boxer briefs.
“Stop whining unless you want to attend our next class without any underwear on.” he said and picked up your jeans from the floor, throwing it on your face.
Just as when you were about to wear your jeans, Bucky’s bedroom door opened and Steve stepped in. Both you and Bucky froze, not knowing how to explain the situation when Steve turned to you and slowly realized what was going on.
He opened his mouth to say something but then closed it again before he let out a defeated sigh.
“I don’t know what’s going on but may I respectfully ask...why on earth are you wearing Bucky’s boxer briefs?”

____
Steve was running late again. You try not to chew your nails off in frustration but he’s definitely testing you. This is the third time in the last two weeks that he’s late to meet you. When he hasn’t been late he’s cancelled all together. Always with a half-ass apology of ‘Bucky needs me’. As if.
You’ve been friends with Steve since your freshman year creative writing class when the only open seat was next to him. Ever since that first day you two had been close. But not as close as him and Bucky. Childhood friends attending university together, thicker than thieves.
You always felt like Bucky was maybe a little jealous of the friendship you and Steve have. Maybe you’re a little jealous too but you’re almost positive Bucky is more jealous of you than you are of him but that’s beside the point. On top of his jealousy Bucky was just annoying. He had a girlfriend but he was always flirting with every girl he met, yourself included. Not to mention he was cocky as all hell.
Steve vouches for his character, swears that it’s all an act and he’s actually very sensitive underneath but you don’t buy it for a second. If you were his girlfriend you’d have dumped him a long time ago.
You don’t have time to dwell on your annoyance too much because Steve is rushing through the doors of the coffee shop. He looks around for you and when he finally finds you the look on his face is relieved. As he gets closer it’s clear that he’d been running to get to you in time. He’s sweaty and a little out of breath and if you weren’t so annoyed with him you’d have found it endearing that he ran here.
“There you are,” he huffs out, “I’m so sorry, I was with Bucky and I lost track of time.”
You purse your lips and hand him a napkin which he takes with a gracious nod before wiping the sweat from his brow. You hand him the iced coffee you’d ordered for him too. The ice is slightly melted from sitting there but he looks so refreshed to be drinking it.
“Figures” is all you say with a huff. If he hadn’t been doing it so often you would’ve been a little kinder about it but you were just irked.
“Seriously, I’m sorry. Nat just dumped him, he's been having a hard time” Steve explained.
“Is it because he flirts with anything that moves?” You scoff.
Steve scoffs in return “He does not! He’s just… outgoing. But no, they had their own problems.” You raise one eyebrow at him. “Okay the flirting had something to do with it but there’s a lot going on there.”
“Whatever, let’s just study for this exam while we can”.
____
You and Steve spent the next two hours cramming for your midterm together. Things were going well and you’d nearly forgotten that you were mad at Steve in the first place. Nearly.
You were so deep into your notecards that you didn’t hear the door open behind you. A voice that could grate on only your nerves. A voice that if it didn’t belong to such a bastard, might even be kinda sexy. The voice breaks your focus completely when it calls out.
“Hey, Steve, are you done already or what? Oh hey, what’s up, beautiful?”
You set your notecards down on the table maybe a little harder than you should. You shoot Steve a glare because you thought it would just be the two of you. Really? You cut in before Steve can answer his friend.
“No, Bucky, he’s not. Can we help you?”
He smirks, giving you his full attention. He knows he has you now, knows you took the bait and he’s goaded you to the point of backtalk. He pulls up a chair to the table and wedges himself tightly between you and Steve. The sound of the chair legs scraping the floor as he scoots closer to you rings in your ears and makes you cringe. You look at Steve again only to find him avoiding your gaze.
“Well, sweetheart, me and Stevie boy here have plans later. Gonna do some gaming and order a pizza, really embracing the bachelor lifestyle.” He raised his eyebrows at this and you just rolled your eyes.
“Yeah, I heard Nat dumped your ass, actually, is that true?” You asked with a fake sweetness.
“Why, you interested?” He rebuffed.
You bristled at his quick response and muttered your annoyance under your breath. You chose not to respond. Instead you decided to address Steve.
“Steve, I didn’t realize that you had plans”
“Oh… yeah, loose plans…” He answered distractedly while pretending to be reading a text on his phone.
You decide to call it a day. You were getting seriously fed up with Steve’s passive behavior in all of this. Thankfully you didn’t have much to pack up, so once you slung your backpack over your shoulder you looked up at the pair to bid them goodnight.
“Well, Steve, this was… enlightening. Bucky, eat it. Goodnight fellas, have fun with your ‘bachelor lifestyle’” You said with air quotes. Turning on your heel you left before either could respond.
____
You had left the coffee shop that evening pretty upset with Steve. Of course it’s fine for him to have other friends but lately it was like he only cared about Bucky and all of your plans took a backseat to theirs. You decided you weren’t going to be the one to text Steve first, since he was being a bad friend. He could be the one to initiate plans.
He did just that when he caught you in the hallway after your midterm a week later. He jogged up to you once again and tugged on your sleeve to get you to stop.
“Hey, how do you think you did? Bet those notecards paid off, right?” He half-joked. He looked sheepish. Nervous almost. You figured it was because of what happened last time you met.
“Yeah, Jesus Christ! I’ve never been so grateful for little pieces of paper.” You scoffed. You decided to keep it light between you. You were still upset with him but his tone leads you to believe he was gonna apologize.
“Right?” He laughs nervously, “So listen, I know I’ve been kind of a jerk lately… Maybe we could get something to eat at Nick’s?”
Nick’s was the local greasy spoon on campus and they had the best breakfast food you’d ever had. You eyed him suspiciously but accepted.
“Alright, but you’re buying. And there better not be any visitors!” You add as you bound down the hall ahead of him. He knows you mean Bucky and he’s not worried because Bucky won’t be showing up today. He’s more nervous about what he has to ask you.
____
You’re sipping on pop as you play with your straw wrapper. You look up at Steve and notice he’s fidgeting a lot more than usual.
“What’s up? Why are you so twitchy?” You question him.
“Me? I’m not twitchy! I was just thinking that’s all” He quickly defends himself.
“Well that was the last midterm of the semester for both of us, I think it’s safe to say you can relax.”
“Yeah, guess you’re right.” Steve concedes quietly.
You and Steve eat in near silence, neither of you mind though because it’s comfortable. You worked on your hashbrowns when you looked up and noticed that Steve had barely touched his food. He was still fidgety, he looked nervous.
“Hey, you’ve hardly eaten anything, what’s the matter?”
He looks a little embarrassed, like he’s been caught. Or like he’s about to come clean about something.
“Look, I wanted to say sorry I know I haven’t been the best friend lately with everything going on with Bucky. He really is having a hard time since the breakup y’know… he’s lonely”
“Right” You laughed, “I’m sure he’s soo lonely.” You rolled your eyes and picked up your fork.
“No really, he just needed a friend to be there. I think he does need to get back out there though.”
“With how smooth he thinks he is, I'm sure he’ll have a date by the end of the night. I wouldn’t worry about it, Stevie.” You responded.
“I’m serious! As much of a player as he comes off he needs to be with someone he already knows. He’s actually really sensitive.” You interrupted with another laugh. There were many choice words you’d use to describe Bucky Barnes but ‘sensitive’ is not one of them.
“But anyway, I was...kinda hoping you’d do me a favor…” Steve trails off.
Based on the conversation you just had you’re cautious. You eye him warily but motion for him to continue.
“Well, like I said Buck’s having a hard time and he needs to get back out there but he doesn’t feel comfortable hooking up with a stranger. I was thinking maybe.. You guys should hang out?”
Steve refused to look at you as he finished the question. The look on your face was a look of confusion and shock.
“Fuck me gently with a chainsaw. Do I look like Mother Theresa?” you asked in disbelief. “I mean seriously, I’m nice but not that nice.”
“Look-”
“No!” You cut him off, “You know I can’t stand that prick. Also why would I want to put myself on the long list of women he’s probably tried to fuck? I don’t buy this whole ‘sensitive’ thing for a minute.”
“I’m serious, Nat kinda crushed his heart when she left. He acts cocky but it’s a front. I just think he needs to see someone to get it out of his system. You’ve got more in common than you think. Just hang out with him once. Don’t think of it like a date, just a really really big favor. Please?” Steve begged.
You pinched the bridge of your nose and sighed. “You. Owe. Me. So. Much”
“Really?” He asked hopefully.
“Really. But I’m not gonna bang him. Hard no on that” you said.
“Yeah, yeah of course! No problem! I’ll give Bucky your number!” He reached across the table and grabbed your hand. His hands were kidna clammy but you let him.
“Seriously, thank you. I know you think he’s some jerk but I promise he’s a good guy.” Steve adds, “A-and don’t think of it as like a date, even, y'know? I think honestly he could just use another friend. Think of how good it could be if we could all hang together some time?”
You shook your head and chuckled at his optimism while you stabbed another bite of your meal.
____
‘What’s up, sweetface?’ Gross.
‘Okay, sorry. Hi, how are you?’ Better.
‘I’m alright, you?’
‘Good. Steve tells me you’re a huge trivia nerd. Wanna go to Sally’s tn?’
‘It’s a date’ Shit. Didn’t mean to say that. Fuck. Quick- say something that will deflect before he responds!
‘And since it’s a date you’re paying’ That’ll have to do.
‘Ugh fine. Here’s hoping you’re a cheap date at least. I’ll meet you there at 9’
____
What do you wear for a date with someone that you despise? It’s just bar trivia so it’s nothing special but somehow the jeans and flannel you’ve been wearing all day don’t feel like they make the cut. You rip your closet apart trying to find something before you settle on black skinny jeans and your favorite sweater with some boots. Casual but not too casual.
You spend the whole walk there dreading the night ahead of you. Knowing that you wouldn’t even have Steve as a buffer between you made the whole evening seem daunting. At least you had trivia to distract you. You decide to give Bucky the benefit of the doubt tonight for Steve’s sake. You try to remember Steve’s insistence that Bucky’s a good guy and you have a lot in common. We’ll see about that.
When you arrive at the bar you find Bucky already waiting for you at a high-top table with two PBRs and a shot of brown liquid. Please don’t let that be whiskey. He sees you coming and smiles that damn-his-good-looks smile at you while patting the open chair next to him. The closer you get you even see that he got the whiteboard already for trivia.
“Please tell me that’s not Jameson or Fireball” you greet him.
He laughs a little and shakes his head. “Better - it’s Jack. Sorry, doll, but I already opened the tab. This is what we’re drinking” He nudges one of the shots closer to you and motions for you to pick it up. “Come on, we gotta start the night off right, bottoms up!”
Before you can gag at the thought of drinking whiskey you grab the glass and face him. You both knock your shots on the table before clinking them together and swallowing them in one go. You grimace at the taste and feel the warmth flow all the way down your throat. You quickly take a sip of your beer to rid yourself of the taste.
“Aww, you’re cute when you’re grossed out.” Bucky coos at you.
You’re embarrassed and annoyed but it goes away quickly.
“Shut up, Barnes”
You give him a light shove and he pretends like he’s about to fall off his stool, making you laugh. For someone that’s only ever annoyed you he’s doing a pretty bang-up job of being likeable when it’s just the two of you.
“You ready for me to carry you through some trivia?” You joked.
“Hey, now! I know...stuff” he concluded.
“Mmhmmm, I’m sure you do. Don’t worry, I’ll answer the questions and you just sit there and look pretty” you reach over to pat his face lightly with a wink.
Bucky grumbles before taking another sip of his beer.
You settle in for a long night when the host announces the first round is starting.
____
You managed to steal the first round without breaking a sweat, second round was a little rocky until it came down to you and one other couple. You knew the third round would be tricky but the way Bucky was cheering you on you were determined. To no one’s surprise Bucky had been completely useless so far but to his credit he was trying. At least he was a supportive teammate.
Things were going well until the third round was announced: Old School Videogames. You didn’t know shit about old school videogames. Or regular videogames. The extent of your video game knowledge started and ended with Mario Kart.
When the third round was announced though Bucky hit the table in excitement and cheered.
“Woo! Fuck yeah!” He pats you on the shoulder, “I got this, don’t worry. I so fuckin’ got this!”
He was a few drinks deep but he was so confident and he was your only hope so you went with it. He looked like a little kid the way he was practically giddy.
“You had better! There’s some serious prize money riding on this round.” You said in warning.
“No, no. You don’t understand that I’ve GOT this. Your turn to look pretty, not that it’s gonna be all that hard for you, sweetface” Bucky grinned at you over his beer as he took another sip.
Your cheeks felt heated and you tried your best to hide it by taking another drink yourself. Bucky’s flirting has never worked until now. Must be the alcohol.
“Shut up, Barnes” you mumble.
“Y’keep saying that but what I really think you mean is ‘I love you, Bucky you’re so strong and handsome~’” He imitated in a high pitched feminine voice.
You shoved him for real and before you could say anything else the third round was starting.
____
Bucky wasn’t kidding when he said he had this. He had won the round in a clean sweep and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t impressed. Who knew this man harbored so much videogame trivia? When the host handed you the prize money he just waggled his eyebrows as if to say See?
“I gotta hand it to you, Barnes, I had no idea you had that much videgame wisdom rolling around up there. The only videogame I ever play is Mariokart so I’d be toast without you.”
“Mariokart? That’s it?? No problem, doll. It was nice to contribute.” He chuckles at that.
You divvied the money up and handed him his half.
“Guess I’m not such a cheap date afterall, huh?”
He chuckled as he took his half from you.
“I’m gonna go pay the tab with our winnings, I’ll be back”
You picked up your phone while you waited for him to find some missed texts from Steve.
‘How’s it going?’ ‘Are you guys doing okay?’ ‘I haven’t heard anything so I’m assuming you haven’t killed each other. Have fun, text if you need a ride home.’
You almost rolled your eyes at Steve’s insistence but found yourself smiling instead. You’d text him back when you got home.
Bucky was walking up to you once more and you smiled at him slightly.
“You said you’re good at Mariokart?”
“I didn’t say I was good at Mariokart, I said that I played it. Why?”
“Well I was thinkin’ maybe we could go back to mine and I could whoop your butt”
You weren’t going to say yes but now he was goading you and you took the bait without hesitation.
“Oh, you’re on, Barnes. You’re so, so on.”
His smile grew wider when he heard your response. With that he placed his hand on your lower back and ushered you out of the bar.
____
You played two tournament cups worth of Mariokart and Bucky had indeed whooped your butt. You don’t know why you were surprised, with how much gaming he and Steve do it’s no surprise he’s a natural. You still had fun though. Just when you were about to propose a third round Bucky got up and headed to the kitchen without a word.
He came back with two glasses of water and handed you one. He sat down on the floor next to you and you set down your controller.
“Here, drink up.”
You were taken aback a bit by the kind gesture but accepted the glass just the same.
“Thank you, I might regret saying this but, you’re not so bad when you’re not being insufferable, Barnes”. You told him
He smiled and shook his head as he drank his water.
“Thanks, I guess”
“How come you can’t be like this all the time? When it’s just the two of us you’re so kind and you’re even… I don’t know, funny maybe. Why do you get all cocky whenever else I see you?”
He looked down into his glass at your comment and you watched his brows crease in thought.
“I don’t know, it just sort of… happens, whenever I’m around other people I don’t know that well. I don’t mean to be a dick or anything but it’s like I can’t help myself. People expect me to be a certain way and I can’t help but fall into it sometimes. Nat hated that about me, it’s part of the reason why she dumped me, actually”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know that. And I’m sorry about the breakup, too. I know you guys were together for a while.” Bucky only shrugged at this and downed the rest of his water.
“It is what it is. I’m ready to be over it, I’m getting there slowly but surely. I gotta say, you’re not so bad either when you’re not getting all defensive and in my face. You’re actually pretty funny”
Your turn to become flustered at a personal analysis.
“Thanks, I guess I don’t mean to be so defensive either, it's just my response to most other people. I feel myself slip into it and it can’t be helped.” You explained.
Bucky nods at you, not knowing entirely what to say in response.
“I like spending time with you” He says leaning closer to you.
You swallow thickly, not sure what to make of what you feel knowing his face is so close to yours.
“I… like spending time with you too. You’re not what I thought.”
“Me neither,” he shakes his head, “You’re something else.”
With that he leans his head closer to yours and you feel yourself close your eyes and move your lips to slant perfectly into his. You’re kissing Bucky Barnes. The Bucky Barnes you can’t stand. That Bucky Barnes. You’ve decided that his tongue feels too good in your mouth to care now.
His hands come to frame your face and bring you in closer. His hands are warm and calloused but they feel like comfort. You can’t help but to melt. You moan into his mouth and it seems to spur him on. He pulls you into his lap and you let out a noise of surprise that’s muffled by his mouth on yours.
Your hands come to caress his sides and you take your time feeling every muscle and ridge. Your hands idly make their way under the hem of his shirt and his skin is just as smooth as you’d expect. He sighs into your mouth and it takes all of your strength not to fall apart right there. You feel yourself getting lightheaded and have to pull away for air. When you do you rest your forehead against his and the only sound is both of your breathing.
You finally brave a look at him and he has the softest smile on his lips.
“Sorry, doll, didn’t mean to get so carried away but I’ve been waiting for a long time to do that.”
This catches you off guard.
“You have? Wait, did you like me? But you flirt with everyone!” You explain.
“With you, I flirt with you. You just can’t stand me” he laughs out, “Nat dumped me for a couple reasons but that’s one of them she told me I needed to get my priorities straight and I gotta say, I’m thankin’ her for sayin’ it ‘cause she was right.”
You don’t know what to say or what to make of any of this. All you know is that you want to kiss him again, so you do. You grab him by the collar and pull him into you again. He lets out a startled noise but kisses you back all the same.
You don’t care what you used to think of Bucky Barnes and you don’t care about what’ll happen after today. Right now all you care about is feeling him in sync with you for the first time. You could live in this moment forever but right now will have to do.

PART 1
Your feet dangled down from the stool, elbows on the granite counter when Jeff turned around. “Alright,” he said, lips in a thin smile when he revealed the plate of reheated lasagna that someone dropped off in the last few days. “Smells good.”
You looked up at him with an unimpressed stare. “It looks a little disgusting.”
“It’s vegan, I think.”
“Jesus,” you rolled your eyes. “You start one all natural skincare line and people think you only eat plant-based shit.”
He let out a small laugh, set the plate down and watched as you picked up the fork. One bite--mediocre. Not exactly hot enough, but after all Jeff had done for you the last few days, you didn’t have the heart to demand he put it in for another minute.
“So--do you think it went well?”
You laughed around the food in your mouth, picked up a paper napkin and let your head tilt to the side. “As good as a funeral could be.”
The lights in your kitchen were dim and the sun had already faded behind the trees, the house quiet after people finally filed out. Friends, extended family, strangers you’d never met had flocked to Los Angeles for the funeral of your famous father.
It’d been coming from a mile away. His health declined, an obvious result of the cocaine and the cigarettes and whatever else he’d ingested regularly in the 70s. A heart attack a year ago put him on a fast track to the afterlife, but he always joked that he’d probably end up in hell.
Being in the music industry ruined him, in a way--it ruined your parents’ marriage and it ruined a lot of the relationships your father had. Blow outs and big fights that left him exiled from a lot of social circles, sometimes never speaking to people again after one bad phone call. But it was never like that with Irv.
“Well, I’ve never seen my dad cry so hard,” Jeff smiled. “He really loved him.”
Another bite of the soggy noodles and fake cheese. “I know.”
A comfortable silence, the doors off the kitchen were open, a breeze from the backyard let the southern California warmth blow through the sheer curtains when you sipped at your left over wine.
Jeff was the closest thing you had to a sibling, his family was all you had left at this point. You were tossed in the bathtub with him and his siblings as a baby, shoved into family photos and tagged along for vacations.
Being closest in age to Jeff meant people always hoped it would be the two of you that would end up together. Happily ever after or having babies of your own. But when you saw Jeff wolf down a whole pizza at his bar mitzvah, any hope of a spark between the two of you had been permanently extinguished.
His older sister was the one who told you what it meant to have sex, and after your mom died, his mom helped you pick out a dress for your Sweet Sixteen.
She was the one who talked you off the ledge when you found out you were pregnant only a few years later, she was the one who threw you both baby showers and she was the one who helped you through your divorce only six months earlier.
So now that your dad was gone, too, you wondered where you fit into their family and what your definition of family even was.
Before the thought could cross your mind, the front door was pushed open and the sound of high pitched giggles floated in from the foyer.
CeCe’s tiny voice echoed down the hall. “Uncle Jeff?”
“Is that my CeCe?” He took a few steps forward and she ran straight into his legs, he hoisted her up onto his hip when Maeve rounded the corner with Tristan in tow.
“Hi honey,” you opened an arm so your ten-year-old could fit into the side of you. She leaned her head on her shoulder. “How was ice cream?”
The easiest ploy to get them out of the house while you hosted some kind of awkward afterparty.
“Fine,” she sighed. “But Tristan said that funerals are a selfish attempt by the living to hold on to someone after they’re dead.”
You blinked a few times and looked down at her, shocked by the words and apparently, her ability to understand them. You looked over at Tristan, arched eyebrows to communicate how displeased you were.
His eyes went wide when Jeff choked down a laugh. “I didn’t--I don’t know what you’re talking about Maeve.”
You kissed Maeve on the head. “Well, Tristan is wrong about a lot of things, trust me. But you two should go get ready for bed, it’s been a long day.”
You looked over at him again--younger by two years and easily one of the most important people in your life. You met him only a year after you started your business, he had a knack for brand management and eye for design that you couldn’t pass up. He was way too sarcastic and cynical to be your regular babysitter, but Jeff and his family were basically in the receiving line beside you.
Jeff let CeCe climb down and Maeve took her by the hand as they headed for the kitchen stairs to the second floor, leaving you alone at the island with two of your closest friends.
He waited until he heard the water turn on from their bathroom sink, then whispered in Tristan’s direction. “Great idea to say that to a ten-year-old and a six-year-old after their grandpa dies.”
Tristan rolled his eyes theatrically, “she asked why so many people came and why she’d never met any of them if they loved her grandpa so much.”
“Well, you can expect a bill for their therapy in a few years,” you laughed, forking more lasagna into your mouth.
Tristan made his way over to the fridge and pulled out the glass dish, helping himself to a piece when Jeff took a seat beside you. “How are you holding up?”
“Fine,” you glanced at him sideways, suspicious about any ulterior motive he might have.
“Okay, Y/N,” Jeff laughed, Tristan eyed you from over his shoulder like he didn’t believe you. “Let me try again. How are you feeling emotionally?”
You cleared your throat and swallowed the most recent bite of dinner. “Oh, you mean cause my husband left me six months ago and my dad just died and now I’m a single mom with two fiesty daughters who just inherited a giant house aaaaaand,” you drew out the word for dramatic effect. “I’m a business owner who barely gets any sleep?”
“That’s what I was getting at, yes,” Jeff nodded and fought a smirk.
“I’m alright,” you sighed. “Tired. Kind of freaked out about what the fuck is going on in my life, but, I’ll survive. I always survive."
You knew you would--in fact, you’d been waiting for this moment for the last few weeks. When Jeff’s mom called to tell you your dad needed to be put in hospice, you prepared. You talked to Maeve and CeCe and explained it all in a way they’d understand. His life on earth is over, but we can still talk to him and visit a pretty garden to remember him.
It was a lot to deal with only a few months after your high school sweetheart turned husband admitted he’d been having an affair and moved out, you saw on Facebook that he’d since bought a motorcycle and was spending most of his time at bars along the coast. That whole fiasco was harder to explain to your children.
And now suddenly everyone wanted to make sure you were okay. Frozen dinners, offers to drive your kids to and from their extracurriculars, a lot of attention was suddenly thrust onto you and your family, as if you hadn’t always hated that growing up.
But you knew the time would come when life would settle back down. Cousins and aunts and uncles would fly home, people would stop asking how you were doing post divorce. Dust would settle and the sun would set on this chapter and frankly, it couldn’t happen soon enough.
So here you were, the funeral was over, the dinner in his honor at Jeff’s parents, the media coverage was starting to die down and life could return to normal. Or, at least, a new normal.
Your dad had been a fixture in your life--weekly dinner dates with grandpa gave you a minute to yourself after working long days and answering endless phone calls. A glass of wine on the couch or even dinner with Tristan and Zoey was a nice escape from breaking up fights or figuring out how to reattach the head of a Barbie doll after someone shoved someone into a closet and tears and screaming ensued.
“You will definitely survive,” Jeff nodded.
Tristan came and sat, forked into the lasagna and made a face when he realized how bad it was. “Is this fake cheese?”
“Unfortunately,” you nodded.
Tristan made a face and then cleared his throat. “I, for one, think this is the start of a new chapter for you. New opportunities, new love,” he smirked.
A quick retort: “Yeah, that’s obviously the first priority right now.”
“He’s right, though,” Jeff said. “You have a fresh start, a totally new chapter.”
You nodded--they were right, but easing into a new chapter felt a lot better than trying to dive right in.
“Speaking of a fresh start, you know, changing things up,” Jeff forced a grin in your direction. “Can we actually talk for a second?”
You eyed him suspiciously, put your fork down to bow out from eating the world’s worst lasagna. “Yeah?”
“I have kind of a weird favor to ask. And--I know it’s kind of bad timing, with everything going on, but--just hear me out, okay?”
Instead of replying, you watched him, lifted your brows to encourage him to continue and tread carefully.
“So I have a client who isn’t from here, he bought a house but it’s in the middle of getting renovated. There’s kind of been a lot going on, it’s a long story.”
“Okay,” you nodded, unsure where he was going with it.
“He needs a place to stay, and I was wondering if maybe he could stay here for a little.”
“Here, like, here here?” You pointed to the floor of your kitchen, an elegant upgrade from the more modest house in Woodland Hills you’d occupied before the divorce.
Along with the death of your father came the inheritance of his Bel Air estate and all of the bedrooms, the four car garage, the manicured lawn and the pool out back. Some people thought you should sell it, use the cash to make trusts for the girls or save for college.
Selling it didn’t feel right, though. It was the house he worked so hard for, the house you called home for the later half of your teen years and the place you always came back to when things got hard. So instead of putting it on the market and closing that chapter, once again, you returned to the safe haven in the hills when you didn’t know where else to turn.
“Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but you have the room and it might be fun to have someone else around and--”
“I have two daughters, Jeff, I can’t just let a stranger live with us.”
“He’s not a stranger, Y/N, he’s my friend. We’re really close.”
“Who is he?” Tristan asked, waving his fork in the air to remind us that he was still present.
“Harry Styles.”
Tristan’s eyes nearly bugged out of his head. “The kid from the boyband?”
“No way,” you shook your head, dismissing it before you could even let his name register. “I’m not having a pop star boy band kid stay in my house.”
“Okay,” Jeff held up a hand to get Tristan to relax, then moved to point at you. “He’s 24, number one. He’s not a kid, he’s, like, only a few years younger than us.”
“Yes,” you nodded, “exactly. I don’t need a 24-year-old living with my daughters.”
“He’s not like that, though. He’s responsible and he’s a family friendly dude, and--”
“Then why can’t he live with you? Or with your parents?”
“I don’t have the room,” he said. “And my dad hates house guests.”
You rolled your eyes, it was obnoxious, but it was true. Irv hated having people stay over almost as much as he hated it when your dad beat him in golf.
Jeff took your silence as an opportunity to continue selling you on the idea. “He just finished his tour, he’s working on his second album. He’s probably going to be in the studio a lot, Y/N. Do you really think I would let some crazy party animal live with my nieces?”
Another eye roll from both you and Tristan.
“Is this like, just a few nights?” You asked.
“Like, two weeks. Tops.”
“Two weeks?!” You shook your head. “No--I can’t put them through that after all the shit that’s been going on this year. Why can’t he just stay in a hotel?”
“Cause that’s lonely and he’s a people person and--I don’t know, it might be good for you to have someone around.”
You rolled your eyes that, was it a jab at your new status as a single mom or new status as a fatherless daughter? Unsure.
Jeff stood from the counter and grabbed for his phone on the far end of the island. “Just think about it, okay? I’ve gotta run. A few weeks, built in babysitting, maybe--he’s great with kids.”
“I’ve already thought about it,” you told him, resting your chin in your hand and offering a sugary sweet smile. “No fucking way.”
“Mommy!” CeCe’s voice called from upstairs, you hoisted yourself up, ready to tuck them in and forget that Jeff had ever asked such a ludicrous question.
“I would owe you big time--it might be fun! You’ve got the room, he could be a positive male influence on the girls.” He wiggled his eyebrows at the end of his sentence--like that would really sway you.
“And I’m not that?” Tristan pulled his head back, offended.
“You’re the one who told them funerals are stupid,” Jeff said with a sarcastic smirk.
“And you’re the crazy one trying to let a stranger move in here like it’s an AirBnB,” you shot back at Jeff. “So maybe they do need a better male influence than both of you.”
“Mommy!” CeCe called again, more impatient this time.
“I’m coming!” You shouted. “You, let yourself out when you’re finished eating this terrible meal,” you pointed at Tristan and the lasagna. “And you,” you pointed at Jeff with a smirk. “Please never speak to me again.”
He was already heading for the door, keys in hand when he blew you a kiss. “Love you, see you soon!”
“Love you,” you called back, bounding up the stairs, mom mode activated.

You blew air from your lips, Zoey sat across from you at a conference table when you took a late lunch. She was the first friend you made when you started high school, your long time confidant aside from Tristan and Jeff and a sure bet to tell it like it is.
Now she regularly popped into the Luna offices and she loved nothing more than acting like she was a higher up at your business. She’d rather be doing that than admit she was a new mom with no clue what the next chapter of her life would look like. You had that in common.
Her two-month-old son, Benny, sat in a carrier on the ground, his eyelashes fluttered when Zoey put her feet up on the chair beside her.
“What’s the sigh for?”
“Jeff is being annoying.”
“What’d he do now?”
You looked over at her, nose deep in her phone when you took another bite of the burrito bowl she’d picked up for you. You didn’t know if it was worth it to explain it all. Zoey was excitable, never one to turn down an adventure and her aptly timed identity crisis that came with becoming a mom was sure to make her encourage bad decisions even more.
She looked up at you, suddenly aware of the wheels spinning in your mind.
“Spill it,” she instructed. She put her phone down and let out a breath, clasped her hands and waited for you to fill her in.
“He asked me to let a friend of his stay with us in my dad’s house.”
“Your house,” she corrected. “Deed’s in your name now.”
“My house,” you nodded. “And I feel weird about it.”
“Who’s the friend?”
“Some client of his,” you tried to wave it off as if the name didn’t matter.
It didn’t, really. You’d long been exposed to the rich and famous just because of the nature of your father’s work. He was one of the biggest managers in the music industry in partnership with Jeff’s dad, so you were no stranger to beautiful people with beautiful cars and beautiful homes. When Jeff took on the family business, you only grew more accustomed to it.
“So a celebrity?” she shimmied her shoulders in excitement. “Which one?”
“Harry Styles,” you said the name slowly, quietly, even though it was just the two of you in the second floor conference room and even though this was your office that you bought and you owned and you ran.
“He’s hot,” she nodded casually, less impressed than you’d expected.
“He’s also like twenty-something, so it's disgusting for you to say that.”
“Oh relax,” she dismissed your concern. “He could be your pool boy.”
Zoey--who also grew up in Southern California and spent plenty of time at your house as a kid--hadn’t yet grown so accustomed to the coming and going of celebrities. Her parents owned a florist shop in Santa Monica and in high school you had to tell her she could only come to a Britney Spears concert if she didn’t cry when you inevitably met her in the green room thanks to your dad.
“I have children,” you reminded her. “A ten-year-old who might as well be fifteen and a six-year-old who would think I literally bought her a human playmate.”
“But if he’s friends with Jeff I highly doubt he’s a serial killer,” she reasoned.
“Wow, you are completely missing the point.”
“What’s the point, then?”
“It’s weird--I can’t have a stranger move in with my kids.”
“Why not?”
“Because first their dad left us and now their grandpa died.”
“Sounds like they need a new man in their life.”
You ignored the similarity of her words with Jeff’s from the other night. “I just think it’s crazy.”
“Okay,” she sat up straight and suddenly looked like this was morphing into a business conversation. “How long?”
“Two weeks.”
“Oh my god,” she turned her palms towards the sky. “Just do it.”
“What? No!”
“It’s two weeks--it’ll take your mind off of all the shit that’s been going on, it’ll be a fun distraction for the girls. You have so much space in that house you will never even know he’s there. And you’re helping a friend.”
She wasn’t wrong: Harry could likely stay in the bedroom all the way on the other end of the hall from where the girls slept. Maeve was thrilled to get her own room in the move and CeCe would occasionally run into your room after a nightmare, so the space was a plus.
He’d have his own room, his own bathroom. Hell, he could even park in the extra garage and enter from the back of the house. Maybe you wouldn’t even notice he existed.
You sighed, tugged at your necklace when you met her gaze. “I just feel really protective over them right now. I feel like Luke ruined their sense of family and now with my dad gone--”
She stuck her tongue out in disgust at the sound of your ex’s name. “I get that--but they have you. They have Jeff and his family and they have me and Shawn and now Benny.”
You offered a small smile at her reassurance. She was right in a lot of ways. The Azoffs were as much a family to your daughters as they had been to you. Shelli and Irv were like grandparents, they offered to babysit plenty of times and they always managed to get the girls the most amazing birthday presents.
But something in you knew it wasn’t the same. You’d dreamed of giving your daughters the sense of family you never had: a mom and a dad who loved each other. One house, not two that had two different beds and sets of books or toys.
Luckily and unluckily, your ex hadn’t made a huge deal about custody. Visits here and there were outlined in your divorce papers, but at this point in time he didn’t seem the most interested in maintaining a relationship with his daughters, even though he promised way back when that he’d never leave.
Getting pregnant with him during college wasn’t planned, but he swore you’d make it work and you tied the knot only a few months before Maeve was born. Things were good at first, you always knew you’d have more than one--if only to combat your own only-child loneliness--and then CeCe came five years later when you felt a little more prepared.
“I don’t think it’s going to traumatize them, Y/N. I mean, the least you could do is meet the guy.”
You watched her for a minute, blew air from your nose in a huff before you picked up your phone.
Y/N L/N (1:56pm): Fine. I’ll meet him.
Three days later you pulled up to a cafe in Brentwood and took a deep breath in the parking lot. If he was creepy, you wouldn’t go for it. If you got even the slightest weird vibe from him, you’d ex-communicate Jeff and only go over to visit his parents with the girls when he wasn’t around.
You’d already been leaning towards just doing it, especially once Tristan got a glass of wine in you and reminded you what your dad would have said: he who helps is one who prospers.
A few sleepless nights left you staring at the ceiling and wondering if you were crazy. You just now had the chance to let life settle down and here you were, mourning the loss of your biggest supporter, trying to piece yourself back together post divorce, and considering letting a stranger move in? Grief really did do strange things to people.
But when you walked in and found them sitting at a table in the back, something clicked.
Your dad was already fond of your possible houseguest, which you only knew from overhearing previous conversations between him and Irv about how proud they were of Jeff for picking up the family business, and now it all made sense.
A small part of you--probably the stupidest part of you--wondered if there was something cosmic about it. Your dad was always one to let his artists stay in the house, if they weren’t creepy, of course. You grew up with bands rehearsing in the backyard and going to shows at the Troubadour before you were old enough to drive, and you turned out fine.
“Hi,” Harry stood, offered a hand and introduced himself after Jeff gave you a kiss on the cheek. “Harry, pleasure to meet you.” Polite, maybe a bit of a kiss ass. Your dad must have loved him.
“Y/N,” you nodded, sat down when Jeff tugged out a chair for you. “Thanks for--uh--meeting with me, I guess.”
“Thanks for maybe letting me stay at your house,” he offered a sheepish smile, held your gaze for a second when Jeff adjusted the sunglasses clipped to his shirt.
“I’m actually surprised you guys haven’t met before,” he said.
“I’ve been a little busy this year,” you reminded him with a nod. “But--nice to finally meet you.”
Harry nodded, a dimple in his left cheek ignited a tiny spark in your chest, but you pushed Zoey’s words out of your mind. Two weeks, it wasn’t a big deal. He’d be in and out and this would be a blip on the radar.
“We can order coffee or something, but Y/N, I’m assuming you have like, a whole interrogation mapped out?”
You pretended to laugh at Jeff’s joke, turned to Harry and offered a no-nonsense smile. “I have two children, I got divorced earlier this year and my dad just died. So I don’t need any drama or anything. This is temporary and I’m doing this to help out a friend. Jeff, that is, not you.”
He laughed at your clarification and nodded. “Right. This is just me living in your house. No drama. Short-term.”
“And obviously my children will be there, so no guests.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Okay I’m not that much older than you,” you said it quickly, offered a small smile when he looked a little scared.
“Sorry--no, I didn’t mean that in a rude way.”
“No ma’am,” you added a rule, pulling a laugh from both of them when you lifted another finger in the air to count them off. “No drugs or alcohol, unless it’s like a glass of wine at dinner or something,” you shrugged.
“Look,” Jeff leaned forward. “Y/N’s kids are great, she’s got a great skincare company and she’s a kickass human. And you need a place to stay, so don’t fuck this up.”
“You both have my word. No drugs, no alcohol, no guests, no ma’am,” he smirked in your direction. “I’ve lived alone for a while, so, it’ll be nice to have some roommates.”
You nodded slowly and watched him for a second. A hoodie with the name of the management firm your dad and Irv had started, a backwards baseball hat and simple Ray-Bans. You ignored the fluttering in your veins from just looking at him, your own words echoed against the walls of your skull: he’s also like twenty-something, so that’s disgusting.
This was his brand, you were sure. Something Jeff had worked hard on--the looks, the smile, the exact formula that management firms drooled over was playing out in front of you. You sipped your drink once the waiter delivered three cappuccinos. Two weeks, tops.
**
Los Angeles afternoons were meant for playing outside, which is what your daughters did best if they weren’t busy pulling each other’s hair. You had dinner on the stove--enough for five--and a knot of nerves in your stomach when the wheels of his fancy car crunched atop the gravel.
The girls ran to greet him and Jeff showed him around the house. Now, Harry sat across from you at the table, Maeve to his left with an unimpressed look on her face when you cleared your throat. “Okay, gratitude time.”
Jeff set his fork back down, a guilty look on his face to admit he’d forgotten about your pre-dinner ritual.
CeCe squirmed in her seat, let out a sigh when Maeve protested with a flutter of her eyelashes. “I don’t have anything to be thankful for,” she informed you.
“That feels a little hard to believe,” you nodded, losing patience for her attitude over the last few days. “CeCe, do you want to go?”
Your younger daughter looked up at you, scrunched her mouth and thought about it. “I don’t have anything either.”
You tried not to groan aloud. After the week you’d had and the sudden changes in your life, disciplining your daughters felt like the last thing you wanted to do, if only they’d just behave.
“I can go,” Harry lifted his hand sheepishly as if he was sitting in a classroom and not in your dining room, a dimple on his cheek when he smiled sheepishly.
“Take it away,” you motioned towards him.
“M’thankful for being here, having a place to stay--and what looks like it will be a delicious meal.” By now he had a bit of smug look on his face, maybe proud of the fact that he’d broken the ice and stepped up to the pre-dinner prompt.
“Mom’s cooking is a solid six out of ten on a good day,” Maeve looked over at him, her fork now in her hand as if she was ready to dig in.
“Okay,” you leaned in and caught her gaze. “Drop the attitude or go to your room.”
“I’m thankful for Emma,” she named her friend, her quick submission after she rolled her eyes told you she just wanted to eat and get this over with. “She warned me today that Hayley was wearing a shirt I wore last week so I think she’s copying me.”
“Okay,” you nodded, you’d accept anything at this point. “CeCe? Last chance.”
“I’m grateful for pudding.”
Harry let out a quiet laugh, you nodded and said: “Great. I’m thankful for you two,” you smiled at them, hopeful that this nightly tradition would hold some type of meaning, more than just eye rolls and pre-pubescent angst from Maeve.
Jeff looked over at the girls, “I’m thankful for my friend Harry getting to meet my other friends, CeCe and Maeve.”
“Aww,” Harry smiled, a hand clutched to his heart when he looked between them.
“Alright,” you were annoyed by how good your daughters were at turning on their charm for anyone but you. Jeff was often the fun uncle, just like your ex had been the fun dad, which left you forcing them to play this gratitude game every night after they finished their homework.
CeCe wasted no time digging into the spaghetti on her plate, leaving Jeff to ask Maeve: “so what are you going to do about Hayley?”
“I don’t know,” Maeve sighed. “She’ll die when she finds out that you’re sleeping over,” she pointed her fork at Harry.
“He’s not sleeping over,” you corrected. “He’s staying in one of the guest rooms, remember?” You’d already explained it a few times to them. A few weeks, he’s working on more music, he’ll be busy, he’s not here to play with you.
“Whatever,” Maeve said. “Maybe I’ll hold it over her.”
“Maeve,” you looked over, unsure what had gotten into her. “I thought we talked about this stuff with Hayley?”
“I know--but she just keeps annoying me,” Maeve explained.
“Dump pasta on her head,” CeCe suggested with a giggle.
“Don’t do that,” you looked at CeCe and poked her in the stomach.
“I personally am a big fan of that idea,” Jeff smiled over at CeCe. “But it’d probably be better to just forget about it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
“Or the sincerest form of annoying,” she retorted.
Harry let out a laugh at that, caught your gaze when you wondered how soon it’d take him to get annoyed with your kids.
They were great--smart, funny, clever, definitely witty and sometimes dramatic. But they were good kids.
You remembered how tough it was to adapt to motherhood, even though they were your own. Something told you that Harry, no matter how short his stay would be, was not in the chapter of his life that entailed finding joy in playdates and pillow fights.
But he made it through dinner, quiet but friendly and as soon as Maeve was finished, she begged him to play squishball outside before sunset.
“Squishball?” his eyebrows dipped together. “Never heard of it.”
“It’s basically just baseball but with a softer bat and a foam ball cause mom doesn’t want us to break our skulls,” Maeve informed.
“I never said break your skulls,” you argued.
“But it’s what you meant,” she shrugged.
“I would love to play,” Harry laughed, unbelievably entertained by the back and forth he’d already witnessed. They yanked him outside and set up their tiny diamond, CeCe pulled on a tutu just for flair and you and Jeff were left to handle the aftermath of a family dinner.
Jeff put the final plate into the dishwasher after a little bit and offered a hesitant smile when he turned around. “So?”
“So what? It’s been like an hour and a half of him being here.”
Their laughter from outside was audible, CeCe shrieked when Maeve made contact with the bat and sent the ball soaring into the air. “The girls clearly love him.”
“Of course they do--they love anyone for the first two hours.”
“I think he’ll be good for you guys.”
You rolled your eyes, wiped the counter with the sponge when he continued.
“And you guys will be good for him.”
This got your attention. “How so?”
“He’s a people-person, never likes being on his own too much. Some structure and responsibility is good for him.”
“So I’m babysitting him?”
“Oh my god,” he laughed. “Relax, will you? This could be a mutually beneficial thing if you let it, that’s all I’m saying.”
You didn’t read too much into it, you figured Jeff was peppering you with reassurance only to calm your nerves or quell your concerns. When he was finished helping you clean, he hugged the girls goodbye and waved over his shoulder, leaving Harry alone in your house with you and your daughters and nothing but good intentions.
You left him downstairs at first, helped CeCe brush her hair and sat on the floor when Maeve picked out her clothes for the next day: hopefully Hayley doesn’t own this dress.
When you headed back downstairs an hour later, the girls were tucked in, the lights were off, and your usual plan would have been to check your work emails if it weren’t for the dimpled guy in your living room.
He stood at the bookcase, hands clasped behind his back when you found him.
“Hi, sorry--bedtime is always a--” you paused, not even knowing the right label. “A shit show. But thanks for playing with them earlier.”
He laughed, turned around and offered a smile. “No worries--they seem like great kids.”
“They are,” you assured. “Maeve’s been a bit snarky lately but I think that’s just the whole beginning of puberty thing.” You cringed a little when the words left your mouth, wondering if it was too much information for someone who likely had cooler things to do than talk about ten-year-olds and training bras.
But he smiled, shoved his hands in his pockets when you said: let me show you around.
He’d arrived at the worst time. Homework, dinner prep, CeCe crying because Maeve finished her homework first. You didn’t have the chance to give him a tour and you figured it would be better coming from you than from Jeff, that way you could remind him of all the rules.
You showed him the ground floor first. The library, the family room, the two offices and the three different remotes that all worked different TVs or speakers or lamps. He marveled at the pictures on the wall in your dad’s old office space, he was a legend, he told you.
He climbed the stairs behind you and whispered in response when you pointed out what was behind each door. Bathroom, Maeve’s room, CeCe’s room, guest room, another bathroom, master suite, guest room, his room.
You pushed the door open and stepped aside to let him in. Gray walls, a wooden four-post king-sized bed. Throw pillows you’d picked out when you moved in a few weeks ago, a dresser to the left. He looked around and nodded. “S’perfect.”
“Good,” you said, walking over to a small linen closet in his attached bath. “Towels are in here, should be soap and stuff in the shower--had our housekeeper stock it.”
“Thanks,” he nodded again.
“I don’t know where you parked, but there’s a garage in the back that my dad used to keep some of his sports cars in--there’s definitely room and that way you don’t have to leave yours out if it rains.”
Were you talking too much? You just wanted him to feel at home or at least welcomed.
“Amazing,” he said. “Thank you.”
A repetitive answer but it didn't stop you from rambling.
“Keurig’s on the counter--creamer in the fridge. Should be plenty of food but obviously feel free to stock what you like. Except like, weed.”
“Weed doesn’t go in the fridge...” he eyed you suspiciously, the same dimple appeared on his cheek and you rolled your eyes.
“I know--I know weed doesn’t go in the fridge.”
“Just the no drug policy,” he nodded.
“Right. Am I forgetting anything?”
He shifted his weight on his feet and shrugged his shoulders, a subtle shake of his head. “I don’t think so.”
“Okay,” you nodded, one final look around the room to make sure he had what he needed. His duffle bag was already in the corner, you’d told Jeff to put it upstairs and out of the way so CeCe and Maeve didn’t get nosy.
“I just have a question actually, if that’s alright.”
“Yeah?”
“When did you move in here?”
“Uh, beginning of August, so like, almost a month ago.”
He nodded, his eyes curious despite the fact that he didn’t ask more.
“We had to put my dad in hospice, I was looking for a place anyway after,” a quick motion over your shoulder to gesture to the girls. “My divorce, so--a lot of change, but it’s been nice to be home.”
He nodded thoughtfully, the quiet of the bedroom suddenly felt heavy. “S’a beautiful house.”
“Thank you,” you looked around the room again, if only to put your eyes somewhere other than his face. “I felt shitty about redecorating it at first, but--it was a little too much of a 70s bachelor pad.”
“Leave it to Walt,” he joked.
That piqued your interest. “Did you know my dad? Like, did you spend any time with him?”
He pushed his lips out in thought but shook his head when he sat down on the bed. “Not really--met him a few times at events with Jeff, but I never spent any quality time with him.”
You nodded--he was a busy guy, popular and well respected in his industry. “He was a good person, good grandfather, too.”
Harry smiled at that. “Always heard that Irv was the balls but your dad was the heart.”
You laughed, scrunched your nose at the saying you’d heard a hundred times. The two of them were partners in crime, two peas in a pod, yet they couldn’t be more different. He spoke again before you could reply, voice soft in the sleepy house.
“I mean, if you're his daughter he obviously did something right.”
He held your gaze just long enough for you to feel something, something you pushed out of your mind so quickly that your hand was on the door knob before he could even say goodnight.
Two weeks, tops.

Diver Down - JJ Maybank
JJ Maybank x Reader
Diver Down
Request - Hi! I have a request for an imagine, you could maybe do one of the scene where the pouges first find the boat (and y/n is part of the pouges and dating JJ). You could do it when she goes to investigate instead of John B and her bikini top gets stuck or she gets trapped in the boat and JJ saves her? (It would be JJ X Reader).  Don’t worry if not though it might not make sense  x
Hi, thank you so much for the request, I hope this is what you were wanting. I don’t love the outcome, but I thought this idea was cute, so I gave it a shot. Feel free to leave anything else you wanted or other requests, they’re still open for JJ as well as everyone else I write for.
Just a heads up, I did change some things, so it isn’t exactly like the episode.. Shoupe already showed up and told them to leave, John B hadn’t gone down to the wreck yet. She goes down in his place after Shoupe leaves, and that's when your request comes in and all of that happens. I hope that's ok and not too confusing to read, I just didn’t know the best way of doing it, and this seemed easiest. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it!
---
“Guy’s I don’t know about you, but I don't really feel like getting arrested today, so can we hurry whatever we’re doing up, Shoupe didn’t seem like he was in a kidding around mood.”
“Relax, baby. I’m coming up with a plan.” JJ said, leaning to rest against you while using his hat to shade his eyes from the sun.
“Yeah, I’m sure you are J, don’t strain yourself. Look, none of you know how to dive, there’s less than a quarter of oxygen left in that tank, I’m just gonna dive down without it and see if there’s anything worth grabbing.”
Pope huffed at that. “Y/N, that is a terrible idea, you can’t hold your breath for that long. At least take the tank with you.”
You groaned. “No, it’s too heavy, it’ll just be harder to swim with and I’ll use up all the oxygen before I even hit the bottom. I’m a decent enough swimmer, I’ll be fine without it if I just go quick. I’m the best swimmer out of all of us.”
JJ gave you an uneasy look. John B and Kie shared nervous glances, unsure about your plan. Granted, any plan to dive down to a shipwreck without any knowledge of how to dive, let alone with an almost empty tank, was a bad one. At least this way, you were a little more confident that you could do it. A little.
JJ groaned before nodding. “Fine, but be quick about it. There’s nothing down there worth you getting hurt.”
You smiled at that, grabbing his hand in yours. “That's sweet, J, but the potential money or gold down there is worth getting hurt just a little bit.”
He glared at you, and you raised your hands up in surrender. “Kidding, kidding. I’ll be careful, and if something happens, I’ll be right up, ok bub? If I’m not back up in like two minutes, well shit, something went wrong, and it’s been nice knowing you, Kie, you can have my record collection.”
JJ’s eyes widened, and before he could protest, you pulled your shirt over your head, snatched the keys to the cargo hold out of his hand, and turned away from him, facing the water. “Wish me luck, diver down.”
You took a deep breath, and dived off the side of the boat. The water was deeper than you thought, but you could see the wreck at the bottom of the marsh, and you knew you could make it. You spotted the cargo hold, and went right for it. Once you were within reach, you quickly put the key into the lock, opening up the door.
Your chest began to feel tight, and you knew you only had about another minute left before you weren’t going to be able to hold on any longer. You could feel the pressure of being down that deep with no air, your ears beginning to pop. Reaching into the cargo hold, you pulled out a backpack. Satisfied with your findings, and knowing you could probably come back to the wreck with a better plan to search better, you decided to head back up.
You turned to use the deck of the boat to propel yourself back up, when a chunk of your hair got  caught in the hinge of the cargo door. You quickly pulled the backpack off of your shoulder and wrapped the strap into a knot around the anchor’s rope. You returned your focus to the cargo door and desperately started pulling at the ends of your hair, but it wouldn’t budge, it had gotten knotted up around the hinge.
Back on the boat, JJ sat anxiously at the edge, peering into the water below. “Guy’s she’s been gone a long time right? She’s been under longer than she should be, what if she got stuck or something happened and--”
John B cut him off, putting a hand on his shoulder. “Hey, it’s alright, calm down, I’m sure she’s fine.”
JJ was getting frantic now, pulling his shirt over his head, checking his pockets to make sure he still had that pocket knife on him. Pope was still peering over the side, looking for any sign of you. Kie stood up, now also really worried.
“I don’t like this, someone please do something!”
They argued back and forth, and down below, you were still struggling. You could see the silhouettes of them on deck, the setting sun peeking through the water. You were so close to them, not even 30 feet down, and yet this felt like the last time you were ever going to see them. You couldn’t hold your breath for any longer, you had stopped struggling trying to pull your hair free, and your body began to still.
Your lungs were on fire, your eyes beginning to cloud, and just as you were about to give in to the instinct to inhale, you watched a figure break the surface of the water. You began drifting in and out of consciousness as the figure came towards you, only to pass out soon after.
JJ reached you, eyes wide with panic, looking for a way to help you. He grabbed your wrist to tug you closer to him, and saw that your hair was what was stopping you from being able to get back up. He quickly got out his pocket knife, peeling it open and frantically sawing at the piece of hair stuck in the hinge. Once it was free, he wrapped his arm around your waist, and kicked off the deck of the boat to propel you up.
You bobbed at the surface, still unconscious.
Kie gasped. “Oh my god, oh my god, fuck, what do we do?”
The pogues ran to the side of the boat, John B immediately reaching over for your body, desperately trying to pull you back into the boat. JJ’s head broke the surface, and he helped push your body up and onto the boat, before hauling himself up too.
Pope had laid you out into the recovery position, making sure your airway was clear and that you could breathe. JJ was in tears now, grasping at your shoulders, shaking you. He tilted your head towards him, leaning his forehead against yours.
“Please wake up, baby, please. I need you, please.”
The rest of the pogues were now at your side, Kie softly crying while kneeling next to Pope. JJ shook you one more time, and your eyes opened, and you let out a gasp for air, turning to cough up water.
“Oh, thank god.” JJ murmured, pulling you into his lap and hiding his face in the crook of your neck. He had his arms wrapped tightly around your waist, and you slowly wrapped yours around his shoulders. You were facing the pogues now, and you tried offering them a tired smile, reassuring them that you were alright.
“Don’t do that to me again, don’t you ever fucking do that to me again!” JJ sucked in a breath, tears running down his face.
“I’m sorry, J. I’m ok, though, it’s alright, it’s fine.” You murmured, running your fingers through his hair, trying to comfort him as best you could. He refused to let go of you, still holding onto you tightly. You peered up at your friends.
“Sorry, I left the bag I found down there, I tied it to the anchor though.” John B let out an exasperated laugh at that. “Jesus, Y/N, we don’t care about the stupid bag, we care about you.”
JJ still hadn’t released his hold, but moved to stand and pick you up, now leaning back to sit in one of the seats, you still in his lap. The pogues had backed away, giving you some space, getting ready to head out of the marsh. They were no longer in listening distance, and JJ began softly talking in your ear.
“I was really scared...I thought I was gonna lose you. Your eyes were closed when I got down there, you weren’t moving. And when I got you back up here, you weren’t breathing, you were just lying there. I thought you were dead.”
You wrapped your arms around him tighter. “You’re never gonna lose me, especially like that. It’s ok, love, I’m right here.”
He nodded into your shoulder. “I love you...and I’m sorry for the chunk of hair I had to cut off that's at the bottom of the marsh.”
You could feel him softly smiling into your shoulder, and you softly laughed. ‘I love you too, so much. And it’s alright, J, I was thinking about cutting it anyways. What do you think, would I look good with short hair?” You leaned back a little, letting him look at your face.
He just pulled you closer to him, wanting to be as close to you as he could, murmuring into your shoulder. “You’d look beautiful with anything, Y/N.”
You leaned into him, holding him the rest of the ride back to the Chateau.
