I understand that there is a sizable amount of Jon stans whose delusions can be aggravating. Trust me, I’ve come across my fair share of people who think that the sun rises only for Jon Snow and no one else. But, it’s really annoying when certain sections of this fandom act like reading Jon as Azor Ahai is a result of Jon fans making shit up. No, we’re not. We’re literally reading what the text is telling us. We’re not reading into it, we’re reading it straight up. Mel’s singular ADWD chapter is literally just: hey Mel pay attention to Jon Snow, also there’s random stuff happening all over Westeros, and also pay extra attention to Jon Snow.

Mel’s visions are absolutely correct. What’s not correct is how she interprets them to fit an agenda/make herself appear more credible to others (Jon, Stannis). We already know exactly what this looks like when she sees towers being submerged in water, says it’s Eastwatch by the Sea when asked, even though in her head she’s like “oh it can’t be Eastwatch because that place doesn’t look like that”.

ADWD shows us that Mel looks into her fires searching for Azor Ahai and sees “only Snow”. There’s no other way of reading that other than “oh yeah if Mel is specifically looking for Azor Ahai and is seeing Jon Snow, then Jon is the Azor Ahai she’s looking for”. And the gag with this is Mel’s entire purpose, her existence, is to find Azor Ahai. But she completely misidentifies him so when she encounters the real deal, she’s in far too deep to make the obvious and necessary pivot. And it’s even funnier (and I think that’s what GRRM is going for) when there’s nothing special about Mel’s chosen hero Stannis, but there’s a lot that is special about the one she’s ignoring: Jon. Mel literally tells Jon “you’re a super special magic boy let’s make babies because of how super special you are, and these babies will be even more powerful than the ones I made with Stannis” but at the same time being like “yeah mr not-that-special Stannis is totally the guy I’m looking for”.

Plus, Mel’s “only Snow” is quite literally reaffirmed in Jon XII when he dreams himself atop the wall, armored in ice, and wielding LIGHTBRINGER. This isn’t some ordinary flaming sword. This sword burns “red in his fist”, which literally equates it to “the red sword of heroes” - Azor Ahai’s sword. Not only that but Mel’s ptwp is definitely going to be reborn. She has visions about a grey girl on a dying horse WHICH IS TRUE!! What’s not true is this girl being Arya. It’s Alys Karstark. She then has visions about daggers in the dark, which again happens!! Read the last few pages of Jon XIII ADWD. The one that hasn’t come yet but will (based on Jon XIII) is a “promised prince born amidst salt and smoke”. There’s a reason why GRRM included these things in the narrative. And there’s a reason why they happen sequentially. So unless Winds comes out and GRRM is like sike forget that ever happened, it’s pretty safe to assume that Jon is Azor Ahai.

I think the reason people are buying into this theory again is because GRRM is on camera (recently w/ Anderson Cooper) saying that his ending for the main characters and plot aren’t going to be much different than the show’s ending. I think people are just trying to rationalize Jon killing Dany because the alternative to the Nissa Nissa theory is that he kills her because she goes the mad queen route in the books as well. Both theories suck but one at least seems to be a little more palatable.

Imo, the only way you can rationalize GRRM’s words is if you believe he was lying or didn’t actually know how D&D were going to end the series at the time of the interview. Even if George and D&D have a poor relationship that seems highly unlikely. Idk, maybe we all are just too depressed to think clearly. I still can’t believe what they did to my girl.

I get the reason why people are discussing the Dany as Nissa Nissa theory, but to me, this seems like it ignores the text entirely. Everything in the books published so far points towards Dany being Azor Ahai. She’s the one who literally woke dragons from stone. The ‘Azor Ahai come again’ prophecy Melisandre cites is 100% applicable to Dany:

��In ancient books of Asshai it is written that there will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him.”

Dany hatched the dragons at the end of the decade-long summer, on the night when the red comet was first seen in the sky, and shortly after the Others began stirring again in Westeros. She has used the dragons in her fight against the darkness of slavery. There are people in-universe who have already identified her as Azor Ahai on this basis, such as the Red Priests of Volantis. There’s also the ‘Prince That Was Promised’ prophecy, which is very similar to the Azor Ahai one; if these two do in fact refer to the same person, then once again, they point to Dany, and people in-universe have identified her with it (Maesters Aemon and Marwyn, to be precise).

Now it’s certainly possible (though, IMO, not very likely) that all this foreshadowing is meant to be fake, and that GRRM actually intends Dany to be Nissa Nissa to Jon’s Azor Ahai - that is, he intends to make the female character who he has built up as a hero and messiah figure for five books to ultimately be the passive victim of a male hero. He has indulged in misogynistic tropes before, so I wouldn’t put this one entirely past him. But the fact remains that this contradicts everything he has written so far about Dany and her role in this series.

This, basically, is why I don’t give a rat’s ass about the show’s ending - and for that matter, why I take anything that GRRM says about the show in relation to the books with a pinch giant helping of salt. IMO, it’s far more likely that GRRM is simply lying in interviews, or at least hedging the truth, for one or more of the following reasons: (a) he is contractually obligated to say that the show is faithful to the books; (b) he didn’t want to publicly criticize the show because it has been so profitable for him; © he didn’t want to publicly criticize D&D because he considers them friends; (d) he really didn’t know what changes they had made to the ending before he gave that interview.

Ultimately, what it comes down to is is the difference between Canon and Word of God. Whatever GRRM says on interviews or his blog is Word of God. (The show isn’t even that.) Whatever he writes in the books is Canon.

word of god comments may be confusing; they may change over time or contradict earlier statements; they may even contradict the text itself. all of which leads to fans frantically trying to reconcile word of god comments with actual canon, rather than going “okay fuck this, it doesn’t make sense so i’m disregarding it” 

I intend to disregard Word of God, as it doesn’t make sense and contradicts Canon.

thankfully i’ve never really hurt myself too terribly except for a broken wrist, but between the ages of 10-17 i’d occasionally hurt my back by sitting weird, usually in an attempt to play video games without the glasses i desperately needed lol. once when i was like 11 i laid belly down on the couch with my elbows up on the arm of it for like three hours, which messed me up for days, then a few other times i hurt myself, but another bad one when i was 17, i had my back curved while sitting and propping my laptop up on my knee, tried to move and literally just cried, crawled on the floor, and laid there all night until i forced myself to move in the morning. lol luckily it hasn’t happened since i lost a little weight.

sometimes. a lot of time i just like the silence or ambient background noise, but if i’ve got a fitting playlist for the vibe of what i’m trying to write, i’ll use it!

i’m a never writer, apparently v___v but lol ideally a night writer, my best work is between the hours of 12am & 4am, but my sleeping schedule is so inconsistent, and so is my dad’s who spends literally every waking moment of his telling me different stuff he wants done, so it’s tough to hit that sweet spot. i write whenever i get a chance tho.

23. have you ever roleplayed intoxicated ??

lol nah i’ve never even had a drink. like what teenager doesn’t have a drink at some point?? i told you i’m lame.

english, barely. and assassin’s creed 2 taught me some italian swears. and ac: odyssey has had me occasionally dropping “malaka” bombs since the day i first played it haha.

officially, about 9 years. i started at 11 on myspace, rping dragon ball z stuff. but basically about 12 years, if you count how from the ages of 8-11 i’d put an anime pic up on my myspace, pretend i was older, and talk to roleplayers i didn’t realize were roleplayers lmfao.

26. favorite roleplay genre ??

i like pretty much anything, tbh. as long as it’s well thought out, has an interesting plot, or whatever. sometimes it doesn’t even need that, it just needs to catch my eye or line up with something i’m looking for. but yeah, supernatural, multi-fandom, sci-fi, romance, town rps, high school/college rps, anime rp (well, pokemon mostly), harry potter… i’ve done it all tbh and don’t particularly have a favorite.

27. one sound you hate & one you love ??

the sound of cotton stretching is the absolute worst thing to me. or scratching cotton. idk, it just sends chills up and down my spine and makes my hands feel weak lmfao. i’m weird. i really love the sound of rain, or fire crackling, or like “ambient” harp or ukulele music.

short answer, yes. long answer… i’m pretty sure i was friends with a ghost girl as a kid?? like no joke, even looking back at it through rational “adult” eyes, i’m still convinced. my fam moved into a new apartment, and pretty much right after that i started having dreams about a girl my age at the time (11-12). i’d never seen her before but the dreams would be like just conversations, like i was visiting a friend or something. i don’t remember them much, but i do remember the feeling of someone else in my room all the time, like you know how if someone else is around you just know even if you’re not looking at them? like that. there was even one night i was getting in bed, laid there a minute, and then i could have absolutely sworn somebody came in the room and sat down next to me on the bed because i felt the bed sink a little under their weight, but i looked and no one was there. i had a really vivid conversation/dream/thing that night. then a few nights later, for the first time since moving there i didn’t have one. the next morning my dad was really freaked out and said he fell asleep in the chair, but woke up and couldn’t breathe, and felt cold little hands over his mouth. he rationalized it as just waking up from a nightmare but i didn’t think so, so that night when i went to sleep and saw her i got really upset, yelled at her for it, and woke up right after. then i never saw or heard anything even remotely similar again, like she left or disappeared or something. it’s so weird, and i know how crazy it sounds, but yeah. don’t get me started on the topic of ghosts lmfao. THEN AGAIN, like a year later we had a carbon monoxide scare, but i really doubt the two were related because that would mean there was an entire year that we were breathing it in and the monitor didn’t do anything lol

29. do you believe in aliens ??

no alien story, thankfully, but it just makes no sense not to believe in them to me. like, we probably don’t have them on earth, and we’ve probably never encountered any, but it’s as close as you can get to a mathematical certainty that there’s some other life out there in the universe.

30. do you believe in true love ??

like, people who are just meant for each other, like romantic soulmates? nah not really. but i believe that two people can grow to truly love one another. whether it’s based off an initial attraction/infatuation, or a friendship, or both. i’d actually argue that’s a simple explanation of the biological science behind the feeling of love, but that’s an essay i’m not gonna write lol. but there’s apparently a lot of different types of love, so i guess “true love” is suggestive? 

also slightly unrelated but i don’t-quite-believe-in-but-am-open-to-the-idea-of soulmates, not necessarily as two souls who are just meant for each other romantically and always end up together, but more as two or more souls that gravitate toward each other to make up the important people in each other’s lives, like family members, lovers, or close friends. but that’s more of a theoretical idea/possibility than an actual belief of mine.

um, yes. lol i try not to, and i really do want everyone to be their best/happiest selves, but some people man… some people can take a long walk off a short pier lmao

+ Mel keeps changing her perceptive on the prophecy, and doesn't believe Azor ahai is one person anymore. I think everyone is trying to make it one or the other because the show has merged AA and the one who was promised into the same prophecy/person. In the books, Dany is TPTWP (because as you said, she woke dragons from stones, causing a red and bleeding star, she fits the literal prophecy) and Jon is AA, but the show has merged them into "I believe you have a role to play, as does another 1/4

I agree with you that dany is TPWWP and that Jon is AA in the books but in the show like you said they combined the two and it’s impossible for dany to be both azor ahai and nissa nissa cause then she would have to kill herself? it doesn’t make any sense if she’s both so idk. Jon would not, under any circumstance kill her lmao, like I don’t know how else to say it but like no, he’s not going to kill the woman he loves also the mother of dragons and the leader of the unsullied and the dothraki like if he didn’t even love her he still needs her to win this war. I… am on the fence about her dying.. I go back and forth every day, sometimes I’m like theyre gonna screw us over then the next day I’m like no she’ll live alskfjslkfj it’s so stressful to think about. I know some people disagree but in my opinion Daenerys fucking Targaryen has come too damn far to die, she’s been through too much for her story to just end. I really really hope they don’t screw her character over in the end, they’ve done plenty of fucked up things purely for the shock factor (ex. shireen being burned alive, sansa being raped) and.. i could see dan and dave.. totally fucking her storyline up and killing her off.. it doesn’t matter if it would be in childbirth or if they had jon kill her both are fucked up and.. the series will essentially be dead to me if they do that.. not even kidding. i will be so livid lmao. you can’t just have years and years of growth just to.. die..
