Tumblr media
★ YEONJUN could already stare at you for hours on end — you always looked so effortlessly beautiful in his eyes, they can't help but wander back to take you in every now and then. You're the prettiest thing he's ever seen, but there's something different about you right now. About your furrowed eyebrows and small pout, about your fleeting gaze, stuck between your laptop screen and notebook as you read over the problem for the nth time hoping it will all magically make sense soon. You look outrageously adorable to him right now, laser focused on solving this equation of letters and numbers so you can move onto your next set of notes. He'd pull out a chair and sit next to you every time, resting his head against the palm of his hand as he watched while you busied yourself with whatever you needed to get done. Sometimes he'd sit and stare in silence, others he'd fondly brush the stray strands of hair away from your eyes so you don't have to, but every time without fail, his eyes would be trained on nothing but you.
★ SOOBIN loved taking care of his skin. It felt like a checkmark in his day, the last task at hand before he could melt into his bed and forget his worries until morning. He instantly felt lighter after taking all his make-up off and gently applying his moisturiser, but doing it with his favourite person makes just that much better. He especially loves when he doesn't have the energy to do it himself, leaving you to do it for him. Fingers gently tapping the products into skin with care, with the occasional kiss on his nose, but what he loves most of all is the sight of you, bare faced and sleepy. Some days he'd feign exhaustion just to stare into your eyes and hold your waist while you massage serum into his skin. He loves you no matter how you look of course, you're always beautiful to him. But being barefaced with each other is intimate, especially when he has to look his best everyday
★ BEOMGYU was never fearful about the sun exploding in 70 something million years, why would he be when he had the replacement right in his arms. Your smile was more than enough to sustain life and light up the solar system. His theory may not be scientifically correct, but in his eyes, it was simply the truth. What a heinous crime it is that you don't own multiple peace prizes for this sight alone—it never failed to make his heart beat out of his chest every time you graced him with its presence. He gets teased to no end by the guys for being horrendously down bad and staring at you with 'goo goo' eyes whenever your lips curl upwards, but how could he help himself? He's sick in the head, mind stuffed full of you and that pretty smile. It's his kryptonite, his one and only weakness, and no one knew it better than you after walking home hand in hand with your brand new jigglypuff plushie and -62837 won in Beomgyu's wallet.
★ TAEHYUN was so weak for things like this. Even under all those muscles he spends hours perfecting at the gym, he's rendered completely and utterly powerless. Weak for holding you closer, weak for pressing a kiss to your forehead, weak for you nuzzling your head further into his chest, weak for falling asleep with the person he adores more than anything next to him, safe and sound in his arms. He always fell asleep much later than you, because he has no self control and can't help but stare. Ever since he'd met you, he's become a morning person. Not because he enjoys starting his day early to be more productive (or to spend another 86 years in the gym) but because he gets to wake up like this. Your limbs tangled in each other, soft breaths against his neck, covered in the warmth of his duvet and comfort of each other. And if you'd allow him to, he'd spend every morning like this for the rest of his life, and die a happy man.
★ HUENINGKAI is a fan-favourite. And while his band mates make it well known who their favourite maknae is, for the sake of their feelings he tells them he loves them all equally, and keeps his favourite a secret. A secret from everyone but you, who just so happens to be said favourite. And his favourite sight on his favourite person? The face you made when he revealed his secret to you. The way your eyes widened, the knowing smile that crept its way onto your face, your nose scrunching in delight, if he could have that moment tattooed on the inside of his eyelids, he'd probably forget what the world looks like from having his eyes closed all the time. He loves this look on you, how excited you get when talking about the drama going on with your classmates or your masterplan to take over the world. Your eyes twinkling and hands flying all over the show because your emotions are just too strong to keep them confined. It might just be his favourite sight of all time, and while he's itching to screech about how adorable you are, he'll keep it his little secret for now

Lip x sick!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tags/warnings: soft!lip, probs ooc (sorry), doting!lip, sick!reader, emetophobia tw (nothing graphic)
a/n: i wrote this while drunk LMAOOO hope it’s ok, also kinda rushed the end oopsie daisy, 1.2k words
(fic btc)
Lip’s calloused hands snuck around your waist as you straddled on top of him, hips grinding against his crotch. Your hands trailed his shoulders, lips famished for his own.
It was the perfect moment: hot, heavy, and pure ecstasy—if it weren’t for the pain in your stomach. You had been feeling like that for a bit but tried your hardest to push it down. You were sweating; it felt cold and clammy. It took so much in your body to will yourself to continue, feeling weaker by the minute. You pushed it down, however. You didn’t want to ruin this moment.
You couldn’t keep up the act for much longer. Either you were terrible at hiding it or Lip had some sixth sense when it came to you. Whatever the answer, you felt his motions on your waist abruptly pause. When you lifted your head to face his, you were met with furrowed brows. A soft and concerned expression pained his face, and immediately you felt your stomach drop. You ruined the moment, you thought
You leaned in to press a kiss to his lips, continuing to grind your hips into his. The movement was pointless as he was quick to pull you away.
“Baby…what’s wrong?”
Of course he had to pull out that soft voice of his. Something only few people were given the privilege of hearing. Something that never failed to make you absolutely melt; feeling like a lullaby to your ears.
You let out a shaky sigh, trying to shake off the nausea and fatigue.
“I’m uh—“
You trailed off, not wanting to lie but also not wanting to worry him. Perhaps you weren’t actually sick and you were just being dramatic. You wouldn’t put it past yourself.
Before you could finish you thought, he introjected, still retaining that soothing voice.
“You don’t look so well…”
His response caused a realization in you. You looked as shitty as you felt. There really was no point in hiding it now. What was supposed to be a romantic night was now him trying to nurse you back to health.
God damn it, you thought. Why’d your body have to ruin this.
You almost instinctively let out a shaky sigh. You hated being sick; it always caused a feeling of panic whenever you felt even the slightest hint of nausea. You tried your best to remain composed, hoping it was just dull pain.
You didn’t register the silence until he spoke up again, cooing softly.
“Talk to me baby”
A large hand cradled your cheek, thumb rubbing softly and tilting your head to meet his. You were still stacked on top of him and noticed how your body quivered with exhaustion. Whoever gave you this sickness was going to pay.
“I don’t—feel too hot…”
Your breath hitched as you spoke, taking so much effect to even choke out a few words. Your arms felt like they were gonna give out. You wanted nothing more than to flop onto his chest. You remained strong, not wanting to seem clingy. You were much more needy when you were sick, much to your embarrassment.
His hand moved from your cheek to your forehead, softly pressing down. You couldn’t help but to close your eyes, relishing the contact. God, why were you so needy?
“Jesus, babe, you’re burning up”, he sighed, rubbing your forehead.
You couldn’t help but to mutter an apology, even though it was out of your control. This was supposed to be a romantic night, now he has to play nurse. Go figure, you thought. He was quick to shush you and shake his head, leaving no room for argument.
“Hey, if you’re not feeling good that’s ok. Lemme take care of you. You’d do the same for me”
Damn it, you thought. He was right. You would do the same for him in a heartbeat. You were a hypocrite.
You let out a shaky sigh, too exhausted to counter him. You flopped text to him, lying on your back and rubbing your face. God, you felt like shit. All you could do now was hope for it to pass. Unfortunately, you only seemed to feel worse.
Lip was about to say something when you cupped your mouth, mentally preparing yourself for what was about to occur. You made a mad dash to the bathroom, running lik you’d never both. You leaned over the toilet to heave. Lip was quick to follow you. A hand was placed on your back, rubbing soft circles as you got sick. Another hand gently pulled back you hair. He whispered soft reassurances to you as you got sick.
“Just let it out, don’t fight it….thats it, baby”
Once you were done you let out a gasp, still leaning against the toilet. You let out a whimper, your body trembling a bit. Lip was still rubbing your heaving back. His voice was impossibly soft as he leaned closer to you.
“Shh shhh shhhh. I know, i know baby. I know you feel shitty. I’m sorry…”
You wanted to tell him to not apologize, that it was out of his control. Instead, you continued to try and catch your breath, feeling too shitty to do anything else. The movements on your back were a bit firmer.
“S’okay. You’re okay. Y’just sick, is all. I know…i know…”
He continued his rambles of reassurances as you tried to collect yourself. You willed yourself to lip your head up, still looking down as you let go of the toilet seat. The hand grasping your hair moved to your thigh and began to press firmly at the expanse there.
“How ‘bout i run ya a nice bath, hm?”
You nodded. The idea of a bath sounded heavenly right now. Lip smiled, which sent a wave a warmth through your body. You could never get enough of it.
The sounds of the water soon filled the bathroom. He wrapped his arms around your shoulders, slowly coaxing you up to your feet. You would never admit it, but you enjoyed this doting side of Lip. You couldn’t help but to lean against him, feeling too weak to stand on your own.
“I gotcha, just lean on me”
He murmured, repeating like a mantra as he lowered you into the tub. The water felt so nice, causing you to relax ever so slightly. You curled your knees into your chest and hugged them. It was a self-soothing mechanism you’ve had for the longest time.
Lip continued to coo reassurances to you as he washed your body. He gently rubbed body wash on your body, trying to soothe you as much as he could.
“That’s it, just try to relax….i know ya feel gross…good girl, that’s it…I gotcha”, he would murmur.
He rubbed shampoo into your hair, fingers gently massaging your scalp. You felt as if you could fall asleep right then. He continued these gentle motions as he rinsed it out and applied conditioner. You leaned your head back and closed your eyes, sighing softly at the affection.
You wanted to cry at how gentle he was being, even when he was drying you off. He treated you as if you were fragile and could potentially break at any moment; with such care and love. You relished this soft side of Lip, hoping you’d get to see more of it.

18+ Content // Minors DO NOT Interact // 18+ Content.
Sitting in your apartment living resting on the couch, you were alone with a glass half full of red wine, a spicy enemies to lovers novel in your lap but you had lost interest in it as you glanced at the small clock on the couch side table. Today was valentine's day and your love was away on a mission fighting god knows what but that didn't stop the sad sigh that left your lips as you felt a slight clench around your heart.
When you saw all your friends posting online about there special valentines dates with their significant other, It made you want her to selfishly come home and spend valentine's day with you but that wasn’t possible, you weren't even sure if she was in the country at the moment, You understood her job and that there were times you wouldn’t see her for months on end, but there still doesn’t make the pain in your chest go away.
Taking a sip out of your wine glass you place it back on the table as you placed your bookmark in your book before closing it then placing it on the table, you glanced up at the TV seeing a random show playing you had put it on so it wasn’t completely silent.
Grabbing the remote you decided to flick off the TV and head up to yours and Ada’s shared bedroom to try and get some sleep, lately you hadn’t been sleeping well getting off the couch you started walking upstairs when you heard what sounded like the front door unlocking as soon as the front door opened your feeling as if it was beating out of your chest.
Ada walked through the door, her heels clicking on the hardwood floor, she was holding what looked like a small bag and a bottle of something, she looked exhausted but she gave you a small smile you could see the tension melt from her body as her eyes met yours, closing the front door behind her and placed her things on the small table beside the door.
“Your home.” you say softly as you were slightly shocked but over the moon that she was home alive and safe, soon you found yourself running over to her and hugging her tightly, you heard a soft noise leave her lips at the impact your body hit hers but she wrapped her arms around you just as quickly.
"I’m home.” she softly repeated what you said as she gave the top of your head a kiss, you pull away slightly and go on your tippy toes and softly kiss her lips were soft and warm against yours, you could taste her sweet lip balm and the scent of her perfume filling your senses making you feel truly relaxed to finally have your love home.
“I have a gift for you?” Ada says making you look at her with a raised eyebrow, moving away slightly she handed you a small bag, inside was a small box, opening the small box was 2 lockets with your favourite picture of you both and both your initials engraved on the back.
“When did you have time to do this?” you asked as you admired the piece of jewelry. “I got it done just before my last mission, I was going to give it to you then but I got called away early.” Ada says with a sad look on her face but you smiled up at her as you took one of the lockets out from the box.
“This is so thoughtful.” you say looking up at your girlfriend who had a slight blush on her cheeks, they looked expensive and good quality. “So you can have a piece of me while I'm away on missions.” Ada says as she places a kiss on the top of your head then she grabs the locket from your hand and moves your hair before she clips it around your neck, the locket falling to the middle of your breasts.
“I love you.” you heard her mumble as she placed a soft kiss on your shoulder, then another just under your ear. “I love you too princess, now why don’t we go upstairs and celebrate what little time we have left of valentines day?” you suggested as you felt her nibbling on your neck, causing you to giggle softly at the feeling, once she nodded her head and laced her fingers with yours you grabbed the bottle she had brought and led her upstairs to your guys shared bedroom.
As you both walked up the stairs you both were locked in a heated and passionate kiss, your arms around her neck and legs around her waist she held you up by your thighs as she walked up the stairs and into your shared bedroom, once inside your bedroom she laid you on the big comfortable bed breaking the kiss you both were breathing heavily and there was a blush on both of your cheeks.
“Are you the dom tonight?” you asked in a teasing tone there was a sly grin on your face as well, it was a rare sight to see Ada wanting to take control in the bedroom. Usually she was your pillow princess, but it seemed a switch had flipped in her tonight.
Ada nodded her head as her gloved hand went under your shirt, the cold leather causing a shiver to run through your body before she tugged your shirt up to where it was just covering your eyes like a blindfold, leaving you in just your panties since you didn’t feel like wearing a bra tonight, the air was slightly chilly but your body felt hot as all your other senses were heightened due to your sight being taken away. You felt Ada’s lips on your neck causing a soft noise to leave your lips as she started to trail kisses and soft nibbles down your neck to your chest.
Her kisses were soft and gentle, almost teasing with how feather light they were as they travelled down your stomach to the top of your panties, your breathing had picked up slightly you wanted to touch her but you couldn’t as your t-shirt kept your arms in place above your head, but if you had to guess Ada had a smirk on her face. Her gloved hands made their way up your sides before she softly pinched your nipples causing a soft moan to leave your lips at the slight painful pleasure.
“You're teasing me.” you say as you found your hands softly gripping the pillow behind you so desperately wanted to see her you could feel your pussy clenching around nothing, soon there was the sound of material tearing and before you could ask Ada what was that, you felt her warm tongue on your heat collecting your slick and causing a soft whine to leave your lips as you bucked your hips.
“Shit.” you cursed softly when you felt her roughly gripped your thighs, her gloved fingers digging in possibly leaving bruises but you didn’t care, she feasted on you as if you were her last meal her soft groans as she pulled you closer by your thighs, her tongue circling your clit before she softy sucked, you so desperately wanted to see her face you wanted to see the blush on her cheeks, the glossy and hazy in her eyes as her tongue was buried inside of you wanted to see her bruised lips.
“Wanna see you.” you were able to breathe out in between your moans, you could feel your eyes rolling to the back of your head, soon your t-shirt was fully removed from you and you took in Ada’s appearance. Her inky black hair slightly messy with some stuck to her forehead, her lips were bruised slightly but wet with your slick, her eyes holding the look of lust but warmth causing your heart to skip a beat and your pussy to clench around nothing.
“Happy?” she asked as she bites one end of her gloved fingertips and pulls the glove off with her teeth before you felt two of her fingers run up and down your slit collecting your slick, You nodded your head finally being able to see your girlfriend.
She grinned at you before you felt her two fingers sink onto your gummy walls causing you to bite down on your bottom lip, she always knew where your sweet spots were as she curled her fingers causing your toes to curl slightly. “So wet princess.” Ada says with a teasing tone but all you could do was nod your head, it felt different being the bottom or the sub this time but it wasn’t an unwelcome feeling.
“Did you touch yourself while I was gone?” Ada asked as she placed a soft kiss on your cheek as if she was trying to be sweet while her fingers were skillfully knuckles deep in your pussy.
“Yes, but it wasn’t the same, I couldn't finish.” you say bucking your hips slightly when her thumb started to rub your clit, you were close and she knew it you heard her softly chuckle as she kissed your neck no doubt leaving little love bites. “Couldn’t you come without me, your precious little princess.” she teases and you would have rolled your eyes at her comment if she didn't make you feel so good, she was being a brat and she knew it.
“Watch it sweetheart.” you warned her but you felt your eyes roll back when he curled her finger hitting your sweet spot more. “What are you going to do about it?” she grinned before she felt her gently nibbled on your ear, this was the final straw and you felt yourself cumming on her fingers.
Once you finally got your breathing under control you knew what you needed to do, reaching over you carefully grabbed Ada by the back of the neck and kissed her deeply, you could taste yourself on her lips but that was the least of your worries, right now you needed to tam your little brat, softly biting her bottom lip you heard her softly moan she make act all bratty and naughty but deep down you knew she just wanted to be your good girl, breaking the kiss you trailed your lips up to her ear before softly biting the shell of it.
“Go grab the box from the cupboard.” you whisper into her ear, as she got off the bed you decided to clean yourself and the bed up, soon Ada came back with the box and you couldn’t help but smirk because you knew what was in that box.
“Strip.” you asked, taking the box from her and placing it on the bed, there was a slight blush on her cheeks but she nodded her head and started to strip, you admired her body with all its curves and scars. To you she was the most beautiful woman you had ever seen and sometimes you felt as if you didn’t deserve her. When her red dress hit the floor you walked over to her and gently cupped her face before kissing her softly, you felt her melt against you as soft noise left her lips.
When you pulled away a soft whine left her lips making you chuckle softly before you turned her around so she was facing the bed. “Since my princess is being a brat, i guess i have to make her my good girl now.” you say before you gently pushed her onto the bed she made a soft noise when she wet the bed before she turned her head and looked at you, passion, lust and love swimming in her dark eyes, she wanted this and you knew it. Opening the box you grabbed the strap on and the small bottle of lube, you didn’t want to hurt your girlfriend.
You stepped into the harness and strapped it around your waist and thighs, it was Ada’s favourite it was the perfect size and curve it always left her a mess, walking over to her you grabbed her by the hip and pulled her up so now she was on her hands and knees, glancing down you could see how wet she was it was partially running down her thighs kneeling down you placed a soft kiss on her back and trailed kisses down her body even giving her ass a little bite before you ran your tongue up her folds from the back.
Her taste makes your eyes roll back slightly feasting on your girlfriend was your favourite thing to do, you could stay for hours in between her legs if she would let you, but she gets too embarrassed especially when she squirts but that's a story for a different day, after having a little taste you felt Ada wiggle her hips showing she needed something more, grabbing the bottle of lube you reluctantly pulled away licking your lips and applied a small blob of the clear liquid, she was wet almost soaking but you wanted to be extra careful not to hurt her even if she thinks she will be okay.
Standing up you moved behind her and gently tapped the plastic strap against her pussy, Ada looked over her shoulder at you, her eyes where dazed her lips bitting slightly raw, she looked fucked out already and you hadn’t even touched her, placing a soft kiss on her shoulder you slowly slid in her a soft moan leaving her lips as she gripped the pillow underneath her, it had been a while since the last time you to where this intimate.
“Are you ok?” you asked wanting to make sure she was ok, you placed gentle kisses around her neck and shoulder as you waited for her to adjust to the size, you could hear her take a few breaths before she nodded her head and gave you a small kind smile. “I’m ok you can move now.” she says giving you the greenlight, smiling you softly began to move your hips in small movements as you softly bit into the soft flesh of her neck causing whine like moans to leave her lips.
Once you knew she was comfortable, you thought this would be a good time to get some payback for her being a brat, you moved and gripped her hips and started to move your own hips quicker causing your thrusts to do deeper, this caused her moans to become louder as she gripped the pillows beneath her.
“Are you my brat or my good girl?” you asked as you thrust into her quickly your hands finding their way to her soft ink black hair and tugging on it slightly, when you didn’t get an answer you stopped your movements causing Ada to whine softly and begin moving her own hips, but you spanked her ass causing a hiss through her teeth.
“I expect an answer princess, are you my brat or my good girl?” you asked in her ear before you softly bit her earlobe, you heard her suck in a breath when you trailed your hand around her neck and gave a soft squeeze. “I’m your good girl.” she says as you swear you could see hearts in her eyes showing you how fucked out she was, smiling softly you gave another squeeze ever so gently before you started moving your hips again, but this time you pulled her against your body, you could see a little bulge where the strap was in her stomach.
“Are you going to cum for me?” you asked as you thrusted into her quickly and used your hand that wasn’t around her neck to rub her clit, you could see her eyes were rolling back and her moans were getting more high pitched. “Yes.” she choked out in between moans, her body was trembling. You could tell this was going to be a big one, moving so now she is laying flat on the bed, you used the last of your energy to get her to finish.
“What do good girls ask when they want to cum?” you asked as you gripped the pillow just by her head, you could feel the burning in your thighs and your back, but you pushed those aside as you wanted to make your girlfriend feel good.
“Please can I cum?” she asks, looking as you desperately, sweat covered both your bodies and your hair stuck to your forehead, using the hand that was around her neck you used it to angle her head so you could kiss her. “Cum.” was all you said before kissing her, you swallowed her moans as you felt her body tremble as she came undone in your hands.
Once her trembling started to calm down you gently pulled away and rested your forehead on hers a grin on both of your lips. “Happy Valentine's Day princess.” you say as you move some hair out of her face, she nuzzled into her hand breathing heavily. “Happy Valentine's Day.” Ada says with a gentle smile as she leaned forward and kissed you again.
Half An Hour Later
You and Ada laid together in your bathtub as you finally cleaned up after a couple more rounds, both of you were sore and tried but so glad to finally have each other back, the tub was decorated with candles and rose petals every on brand for the day, placing a gentle kiss on Ada’s shoulder you heard her hum softly as she sipped on a glass of the champagne she had brought for you both.
“I almost forgot your valentine's day gift.” you say when you remembered about the small box in your bedside table draw, moving out the tub you heard Ada whine as you tied your bath robe around yourself and softly kissed her head as she stayed in the tub.
Going back into your shared bedroom you grabbed the small box and took a deep breath, this could either go really good or really bad you were hoping for the first option, walking back into the bathroom you noticed Ada was resting against the side of the table, a dopey smile on her face that you rarely get to see only when she is really relaxed and comfortable, her ears perked up when she heard you enter the room with a small box in your hand.
“I have something I want to ask you?” you say trying to hide the nerves in your voice, you didn’t know why you felt nerves it felt right you and her together forever but that still didn’t help the nerves, you saw Ada nod her head and slowly you kneeled down on one knee and opened the small box which contained a small diamond ring you knew she had been eyeing when you went out shopping together, you even got it custom sized and engraved.
“Will you marry me?” you asked her feeling as if a weight had been lifted off your shoulders, you could see Ada thinking about it. “Are you sure you want to be with somebody like me?” you heard her ask her voice was quiet and small not what you were expecting, reaching up you gently placed a hand on her cheek.
“I couldn’t picture my life with anybody else, I want you Ada and only you.” you say to her and you could swear you saw tears in her arms before she hugged you tightly, the position was a little awkward but you didn’t care.
“So is that a yes.” you asked against her neck, she nodded her head as you pulled away slightly and took the ring out of the box, it had “Forever & Always’ engraved in the band of the ring. “Perfect fit.” she says, admiring the ring. “Just like us.” you say causing her to roll her eyes but her smile warms your heart, you made the right decision you wanted to be with Ada forever and always.

Chapter 1: Welcome to Thorpe Abbotts
John "Bucky" Egan x Ruth Morgan (OFC)
Series Masterlist
A/N: Ruth has been living in my head for months now, and I'm so so so excited to share her with y'all! This series is Jess (footprintsinthesxnd) and I's brainchild. Our ideas just seamlessly fit tegether, and here we are! We actually wrote this first chapter a week before the 26th, so if anything happens to almost exactly match the show, we came up with it before we saw it on there! (we're just good like that 😎)
Collab: On a Wing and a Prayer by @footprintsinthesxnd

The hum of the engine was the only sound in the C-47 as it soared over the English countryside. The patients had finally settled, and the morphine finally took effect and brought them some sense of relief. Hope slumped back into her seat with a sigh, smiling over at Ruth who looked as exhausted as she was.
“You looked tired,” Hope smiled at her friend who just sighed.
“It’s been a long day. I can’t wait to get back to base,” Ruth pushed her short blonde hair out of her eyes, sighing again.
“Hey Frank, how much longer have we got,” Hope called to one of the pilots.
“We’ve had to make a detour, doll. We’re heading to Thorpe Abbotts airfield and will evacuate the wounded to Thorpe St. Andrews Hospital. It’s not far now.”
Hope felt her heart flutter, her throat drying as she slouched back against her seat.
“Hey Hope, what’s wrong?” Ruth leaned forward, gripping Hope’s hand and squeezing it, her large blue eyes filled with worry.
“It’s Hugh,” Hope muttered, her eyes a little teary but a smile on her lips nonetheless. “My brother is stationed at Thorpe Abbotts with the 100th Bomb Group. I haven’t seen him in so long.”
Ruth’s concerned frown turned to a smile, “So I’m finally going to meet this Hugh I’ve heard so much about.”
Hope laughed, patting her friend on the back gently, “You will, but don’t get any ideas.”
The aircraft soared towards its destination, and the occasional jolting and shaking on the metal bird brought no fear to the flight nurses anymore. Once, the ratting metal coffin struck the fear of God into them but now this was a peaceful ride.
Hope watched out the window as the lush, green countryside grew closer and closer.
“Hey, Frank! Stop hugging the hedgerows for crying out loud. Don’t let the girl down before we’ve reached the field,” Hope called, grimacing as the trees seemed to grow ever closer.
“Who’s flying this bird, Armstrong? You or me?” Frank retorted, not looking away from the cockpit.
“Well, maybe you could use some lessons in keeping the old girl airborne then. We’ll beat up the airfield at this rate.”
Ruth laughed, watching Hope argue with the pilot once more, “You know Hope, maybe you should have gotten your wings. Then you could be flying us instead of Frank.”
“You’ve got a good point there, Ruth. Ya hear that Frank, Ruth wants me flying instead of you.”
Frank’s reply was a muffled curse, and both girls found themselves giggling in response. The plane tooled along for a while longer until it finally began to descend, rattling as it lost altitude and shaking its victims vigorously. The wheels touching down on the tarmac filled everyone with great relief.
“Well that was one ropey landing, Frank. Maybe I could give ya a few lessons?” Hope asked politely, batting her eyelashes at the pilot who just huffed.
“Shove off, Hope. Now get to it, your blood wagons are waiting.”
Hope cringed at the nickname the ambulances had been given, they were lifesaving vehicles transporting sick men, why make it sound so ominous?
Hope hopped down from the plane, instructing the stretcher-bearers on which soldiers were in the worst condition. Between them, Hope and Ruth helped carry three wounded men to the ambulances when an obnoxiously loud voice called, “Well, I’ll be damned!”
Hope spun round, her boots scuffing at the earth.
“HUGH!” Her brother laughed jovially, jogging over to them.
“Gosh, I’ve missed you, Little Bird,” Hugh threw his arms around Hope’s shoulders, nestling his head into her neck as he always did. Hope couldn’t comprehend what was happening. She was finally in her brother's arms, finally reunited with him after so long. She gripped tightly onto the back of his uniform, burying her face in his chest. He smelt of smoke and engine oil just like he did back home.
“I’ve missed you so much,” she murmured, just loud enough for Hugh to hear as he tightened his grip on her further. She could feel Ruth hovering awkwardly behind her and she turned to greet her friend, pulling out of her brother's arms.
“Ruth, this is my brother, Hugh. Hugh, this is my friend, Ruth.”
Ruth smiled sweetly, sticking out her hand to shake Hugh’s but instead, he pulled her into a bear hug.
“Any friend of Hope’s is a friend of mine,” he assured Ruth and she smiled, her cheeks turning a deep red at the embarrassment of the situation.
“Hugh, put her down. Look, you're making the poor girl blush,” Hope laughed, which only caused Ruth to blush harder.
“My apologies Ruthie, where are my manners,” he bowed, taking her hand and placing a gentle kiss on her knuckles.
“Oh, uh- nice to meet you.” Ruth stumbled over her words, quickly using the excuse that she needed her flight jacket as an excuse to return to the plane.
“You’re a real pain in the ass, you know that?” Hope groaned, shoving her brother playfully in the ribs.
“I don’t know, I’ve always considered myself rather charming,” Hugh protested, puffing out his chest in pride.
Hope nodded, spinning around to call Ruth to join them. The blonde soon was walking back toward the group, now wearing her fleece aviation jacket, and to her relief, without a rosy dusting on her cheeks.
“I still can’t believe out of all the airfields in England, you managed to land at this one,” Hugh laughed, throwing an arm around both girls' shoulders. “You two are in for a real treat.”
As they walked through the base, Hugh pointed out the various hard stands.
“See, right there,” he pointed at a few heavies. “That’s “Just-a-Snappin’, Our Baby, and the M’lle Zig Zig.”
“Where do you guys get these names, Hugh?” Hope laughed, her eyes trailing over each one’s elaborate nose art, along with some very proud-looking engineers and artists who had clearly put so much love into the bombers.
Shrugging his shoulders, Hugh sighed, shaking his head. “I couldn’t tell ya. What’s your plane named?”
“Just the Angel of Death,” Hope chirped.
Hugh stared at her for a moment before shaking his head. “Always with the dark humor, aren’t you, Hope.”
After hearing so much about the man from Hope, Ruth felt as if she’d known Hugh for years when in reality she’d only known him for a few minutes. She knew the stories of how the siblings played in the woods of Columbia, Missouri, exploring the famous rock bridge that brought hikers and tourists into the town. She knew of his love for the St. Louis Cardinals, and how he wore his battered and dirty Dizzy Dean jersey for a week straight after they won the World Series in ‘31 and ‘34. Maybe he’d heard so much about Ruth from Hope that he felt the same way.
‘It would make sense based on his initial reaction.’ she thought, absentmindedly reaching up and grabbing the small pendant hanging from her neck, running her fingers over its smooth edges.
Before they knew it, the trio reached their destination: his officer nissen hut. They were long semi-circular metal huts, not known for their warmth or comfortability, but they were a soft place to land at the end of the day…which is a lot more than most young men of the time could say.
“Welcome to my humble abode, ladies,” he announced as they neared the building, holding out his arms in a ‘ta-da’ motion. “She’s not much, but she’s home.”
He began to open the door for them, but a voice in the distance stopped him.
“Charlie! No girls in the huts,” the voice called. “I told you that a few weeks ago.”
Turning toward the voice, Hope did a double take when she saw who its owner. Approaching them was a tall, tan, brunette, who wore a bomber jacket with his hair messily combed to the side. He walked with a swagger that instantly put a bad taste in Hope’s mouth.
She sighed to herself, thinking, ‘Why do all the cute ones have to be cocky?’
Hugh groaned, pointing at Hope. “Buck, come on, this is my-”
The man finally reached them, and Hope stopped herself from being captivated by his blue-green eyes.
“I don’t care who she is. You know the rules,” he interrupted, turning to the girls. “Sorry girls, but I think it’s time for you to go.”
Ruth cringed and side-eyed Hope, already expecting a snarky response to his comment.
“Well,” she paused, checking her watch for effect. “Seeing as we have patients in the infirmary, it actually isn’t time for us to go.”
It was then that he looked down at her upper arm, taking in the bright red and white medic band that adorned her uniform. Ruth could see the slightest show of remorse in his expression as his eyes rose back up to Hope’s.
“My apologies, ma’am. I didn’t know-”
Hope didn’t let him finish, cutting him off. “Maybe you should know all the facts before you make an assumption, Buck.”
“Hope!” Ruth hissed, trying to placate her friend, but the woman ignored her.
“See, other than my brother, this is why I can’t stand airmen. They’re cocky-”
Realizing the flaw in Hope’s argument, Ruth ran a hand down her face, secondhand embarrassment filling her. Just when she was about to interject, Buck beat her to it.
“Now hold on. Maybe you should know all the facts before you make an assumption, sweetheart.”
Hope’s mind ran rampant with frustration, and she stared up at him with contempt as he smiled cheekily at her. His eyes were locked on hers as they had a stare-down, neither wanting to be the first to give in.
“So,” Hugh cleared his throat in an attempt to break their silent battle. “Let me introduce you guys. Ladies, this is my squadron commander, Major Buck Cleven.”
Buck tilted his head slightly, not breaking eye contact with Hope. “Nice to meet you.”
“Likewise,” she replied dryly.
Ruth shook her head and sighed, amazed at her fellow nurse’s childlike stubbornness.
“And Buck, this is my sister, Hope, and her friend Ruth. They’re flight nurses with the 806th MAETS.”
Ruth raised a hand and waved with a quiet, “Hello,” and Hope felt a little satisfaction when the man’s eyes widened at the word sister.
Buck’s eys left Hope for a moment to acknowledge Ruth, who stood beside her, with a nod and a smile. “Nice to meet you, ma’am.”
“You, too, Major,” she responded with a small grin. He then turned back to Hope.
“So, you’re the infamous little sister we’ve all heard about?” Buck chuckled, placing his hands on his hips.
The woman glanced over at Hugh, who wore a guilty expression. “All good things, I hope.”
“For the most part,” Buck chimed, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means I know about your little escapade to Kansas City, and how–”
Hope’s eyes widened in disbelief that her brother had divulged her most embarrassing moment. “Hugh!!” she cried, smacking his chest. “You lying piece of crap! You promised!”
“It’s not like I thought you’d ever meet anyone here, Hope!”
Composing herself, she took a deep breath and sent Buck a tight-lipped smile. “It looks like you know a lot more about me than I do about you, Major.”
“It would seem so, Nurse Armstrong.”
As Ruth amusedly listened to Gale and Hope’s banter, she felt like she was being watched. Glancing around the group, her heart skipped a beat as her eyes met another set of icy blues, ones that were new to the group.
‘How did I miss him walking up?’ she wondered.
Their gazes locked for a few seconds that seemed to last minutes, and a shudder ran through her. Breaking from his stupor, he quickly looked away with a light pink dusting on his cheeks. Ruth felt her own blush creeping up her neck and wrapped her flight jacket closer to her body, the English chill suddenly getting to her.
Her eyes seemed to have a mind of their own as they fought to return to the handsome stranger. It took all her willpower to keep them on Hugh, who was talking to the group.
“I can’t imagine going up without weapons on board. We’ve got 12 50-cal brownings and sometimes I feel that’s not enough.”
The battle within herself became too much, and Ruth finally gave in to her temptation. Her eyes flitted over to the man, and she silently sighed in relief when she found his gaze elsewhere. It was then that she discovered her first assumption of the man being ‘handsome’ was an understatement. He had a strong and well-defined jawline, expressive and striking blue-grey eyes, a straight nose, and a slightly curved lip, which held a pencil-thin mustache.
She liked the mustache.
He wore a crooked crusher cap and a white fleece-lined flying jacket that looked somewhat dirty, accompanied by his brown service top poking out at the jacket collar.
Ruth was mesmerized by the man, and she didn’t even know his name. A wide grin broke out on his face as he engaged in the group’s conversation, his upper lip curling up, allowing a few teeth to peek out the top, and Ruth felt her stomach lurch for the second time in a short few minutes.
Focus, Ruth. Focus.
An elbow to her side broke her stare, and the group’s eyes were suddenly on her as Hope looked at her expectantly.
“What?” Ruth asked, looking like a deer in headlights.
“I said that we would go insane without each other up there.”
“Oh,” she sighed with a small smile. “You would probably kill Frank if I weren’t there.”
The group broke out in laughter, and Ruth found her eyes absentmindedly moving to the mystery man. As he chuckled, his eyes wrinkled at the edges, and his full smile revealed a dazzlingly straight set of pearly whites. His loud laughter was infectious, and a few giggles escaped her mouth.
As the group’s chuckles started to die down, Hope looked over at Ruth. She took in her friend’s shy smile and blush, then followed her gaze to the airman across the circle. Realizing what was happening, she nudged Ruth lightly, a teasing eyebrow raised.
“What?” Ruth grumbled under her breath, leaning closer to her friend’s ear as the guys carried on the group’s conversation.
“You like him.”
The blonde’s smile fell and heat rushed up her neck. “Who?”
Hope tilted her head incredulously, rolling her eyes. “You know who.”
“No, I don’t,” she defended,
“He’s staring,” Hope grinned, nodding his direction subtly.
Ruth’s eyes rose to his, and sure enough, his striking eyes were gazing into hers yet again. This time, however, he didn’t look away. The corner of his lips quirked up into a barely noticeable grin, and she felt as if she was shrinking under the intensity of his gaze.
“Uh, I need to go check on the patients,” she sputtered, pointing her fingers in the direction of the infirmary. With a curt nod to Hope, she quickly turned and started toward the infirmary, her blonde curls bouncing with each step. A few seconds later, she spun to face the group and called, “But it was…uh…nice to meet y’all.”
Hugh didn’t miss a beat and hollered back his reply. “You, too, Ruthie!” He then paused until she was out of earshot. “She alright?”
“She’s fine,” Hope sighed, used to her friend’s more timid personality. She had hoped that over time, her extroversion would rub off on the nurse, but so far, she had no such luck. Ruth was more of a one-on-one person, not one for groups of people unless she knew them pretty well. It seemed the smaller the group got, the more Ruth seemed to come alive. It was like pulling teeth to get Ruth to agree to go out with the other girls of the unit, but when she finally stepped out of her comfort zone, she usually had a good time filled with friends, fellas, and amazing big band music.
Ruth’s admirer joined the conversation, and Hope smirked, watching his eyes follow her friend. “How far away is your base?”
“We’re in Berkshire, so by car, it’s about three hours, but by plane, probably 45 minutes.”
“So not far,” he chimed, raising his eyebrows and nodding to himself. Before anyone else could comment, he spoke again.
“See you boys later,” he said absentmindedly as he watched Ruth’s figure go around a corner. Clapping Buck’s shoulder, he set off and followed the nurse’s path around the corner, missing the raised eyebrows and confused expressions sent his way. All eyes followed him as he, too, disappeared around the corner.
Hope pursed her lips at the new development, unsure of the man following Ruth. “Should I be worried?”
“Yep,” Hugh confirmed with a curt nod.
Buck hit him on the chest, chuckling under his breath. “Johnny’s a good man, darlin’.”
Hugh suppressed a snort thinking of the commander’s wild habits and how Buck didn't exactly answer her question.
“Anyways, back wh-”
And just like that, the conversation continued, and Hope had a strange feeling of contentment being on base. Finally being with family again.

As Ruth briskly made her way around the nissen huts to the infirmary, her heart continued to beat rapidly in her chest, and her mind replayed his smile non-stop.
Get it together, Ruth!
When she finally reached the infirmary, she stopped at the door, taking a deep breath to gain some composure. Within seconds of opening the heavy door, the base’s head surgeon approached her, wiping his hands with a rag.
“Hello,” he greeted. “I’m Captain Emory Kinder, and I’m assuming you’re one of the flight nurses who landed earlier?”
Ruth wore her signature toothy grin and nodded. “Yes, sir. Ruth Morgan. My other half is visiting with her brother as we speak.”
“Brother?”
“Yep, Hugh Armstrong,” she replied, her smile widening as his face lit up.
“Charlie! Oh yeah, I know him. He’s been in here for a few hangovers after a rowdy night in Dickleburgh.”
“Really?” Ruth chuckled, picturing the confident young man drunk as a skunk.
“Oh yeah. We love him though. He’s a good one for sure.”
A patient called out to him, and with a nod, he was off, helping the man. Ruth busied herself however she could, bringing airmen water, re-wrapping their bandages, and pretty much anything that would get her mind off the man from earlier. She was inspecting a man’s arm wound when the creaking of the door opening filled the building. Paying it no mind, she kept working, noting how the tissue was already healing.
“It looks good, Sergeant. You should be back in the air soon,” she said quietly.
His wide-eyed morphine-induced expression looked pitiful, but he managed to mumble out a, “Thank you, ma’am.”
Ruth gathered her supplies and stood to her feet, throwing away the bloody bandages when Emory's voice rang through the air.
“Speaking of rowdy nights in Dickleburgh...Major, what can I do for ya? Is that shoulder giving you problems again?”
“No, Doc,” the newcomer began, his deep voice breaking the relative quiet. “The shoulder’s fine. I just wanted to, you know, come see the boy-men.”
When she turned toward them and saw the white jacket, the roll of bandages fell from her grasp and hit the floor with a thud, rolling a few feet away to the man’s feet. The heat returned to her cheeks in a rush, and her eyes froze on the bandages for a moment, silently cursing the little white bundle. She watched in horror as the man slowly bent down and picked it up, walking toward her as he threw it up in the air and caught it.
“I think this yours,” he said, one side of his lips quirking up into a smirk as he held it out to her.
Raising her eyes from the bandage to his eyes, she prayed her voice would stay steady. “Thank you, sir.”
She took the bandage and tried to remain calm, her free hand raising to run her fingers over the cool metal of her locket.
“John. Major John Egan,” he introduced himself, extending his hand to her. “But you can call me Bucky.”
Ruth’s brows furrowed in confusion as she took his much larger hand and shook it gently. It was surprisingly soft compared to the men she’d treated from the lines.  “Bucky? It’s there another-”
“Yeah,” John chuckled and slowly released her hand, shoving his in his pockets, rocking back on his heels. “We call Cleven Buck, too. He hates it, but he deals with it.”
Grimacing playfully, she decided to go out on a limb despite her pounding heart. “Well, I, um, don’t know if I’ll be able to remember who’s who.”
“Oh no,” John tutted, his eyebrows raised and a wide-mouthed smile painting his lips. “We can’t have that. You can call me John, Johnny, whatever you want, doll, but I don’t think you’re going to have a hard time remembering my name.”
“And why would that be, Johnny?”
“Because you’ll see it at the bottom of each letter you’ll get from me.”
The blonde froze, dropping her necklace in disbelief as she swallowed thickly.
‘There is no way he just said that,’ her mind repeated. ‘There is no way he just said that.”
Pushing through her reserved personality and the tingling sensation swirling in her stomach, she decided to take a page from Hope’s book.
“What makes you think I’d let you write me, hotshot?”
Her mind went haywire. ‘‘Why did I just say that? I’m never taking Hope’s advice again. This is too stressful.’
For the first time in their interaction, his confident bravado seemed to fade and he didn’t quite know what to say. Perhaps he was always used to women giving in to his advances easily, but Ruth was not just another woman begging to be wooed. Johnny stood before her with furrowed brows, his upper lip sticking out slightly. He pushed back his jacket and placed his hands on his hips, his head ducking to the floor.
“Because I’d like to get to know you,” he replied earnestly, taking off his cap. “You’re gorgeous, and I would like to write you, Ruth.“
That was the last thing she expected.
In that moment, Ruth Morgan had a decision to make. Was she going to reject the airman or give him a chance? She knew she was attracted to him and there was chemistry there, but was she willing to put herself out there? The timid parts of her personality screamed at her to tell him no, but the parts that Hope had influenced were urging her to accept his offer. In the end, Ruth already liked Johnny, and she saw the sincerity in his statement as a deciding factor in the matter.
“Alright, you can write to me,” she answered quietly, pushing her hair behind her ear.
John watched as she walked to the infirmary desk and got a sheet of paper, scribbling down what he expected to be her address. He took in her features, just like he had earlier. Starting at her light blonde hair, his gaze traveled down her face to her familiar blue eyes, down her adorable nose, to her lips, which were pursed slightly as she concentrated on writing down her information. She was stunning, and Johnny knew that he wanted to see her again just from their short conversation.
Approaching him again, she held up a slip of paper, a toothy grin on her lips. “This is sensitive information, Major. It better not end up in enemy hands, and that includes your fellow airmen.”
“Yes ma’am,” he nodded once before fake saluting her, unable to keep his excitement inside. “Mission understood.”
“But just to be safe, I’m going to hold onto it for a little bit.” she leaned a little closer to him, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Just in case I, you know, change my mind.”
John grinned down at her and yet again raised his eyebrows as he nodded. Ruth noticed he did that a lot. “I’ll be on my best behavior, scout’s honor.”
Sliding the slip into her pocket, she started her nursing tasks once again, looking at him over her shoulder. “So, you were in the Boy Scouts?”
“No,” he chuckled, putting back on his cap as he moved next to Ruth to help. “I wasn’t, but Buck was. He ended up being an Eagle Scout before he aged out. One of the best in Wyoming, he says, but I don't buy it.”
He stood a good 5 or so inches above her, so his chin was at her eye level. In the small area at the nursing station, his shoulder was just barely pressed against hers as they both worked to roll bandages, and Ruth could feel the warmth radiating from his touch.
“It seems like you know each other pretty well,” she stated, looking up at him briefly.
His concentration remained on the bandage in his hands as he spoke. “Yeah. He’s my best friend.”
“How long have you known each other?” She asked, reaching up to mess with her necklace.
“We both joined up in ‘40 and were roommates in basic. Been together ever since.”
“That reminds me of Hope and I, although we haven’t known each other for nearly that long.”
John placed the finished bandage in the basket and turned to face her, leaning a hip against the counter as his earnest expression returned. “War makes people closer. Makes ‘em realize who’s important. What’s important.”
The blonde mirrored his stance, taking in his words. He was right. War did have a way of bringing people together. She gazed up at him with a shared understanding of how something as terrible as the war had brought out the best and worst in people, as well as brought people into their lives for the better. The pair’s eyes remained locked for a few moments, both realizing that perhaps there was something deeper than the flirting between them. His warm eyes seemed to search hers, and to her surprise, she didn’t feel nervous in that moment. Johnny’s gaze was like a warm blanket enveloping all of her senses to the point that all she could see was him.
“I feel the same way,” Ruth finally answered, fixing a stray curl that had fallen into her eyes.
Half of his lips curled up in a grin and he took a step toward her. “Ruth, I-”
The loud opening of the door jolted them from the moment, sending both their heads in the direction of the entrance. There stood an out-of-breath Frank, whose face was bright red and shimmering with sweat.
“Ruth! Do you know how long I’ve been looking for ya?” He cried, approaching them quickly.
Unsure of the man’s intentions, Johnny straightened and moved just barely in front of her, holding out a hand towards Frank. “Woah, buddy.”
Although it was an endearing effort, she couldn’t hold in a loud giggle at Frank’s offended expression that followed. “No, Johnny,” she laughed, gently lowering his hand.  “This is our pilot, Frank. Frank, this is Major John Egan. What is it?”
The pilot’s eyes flicked between Ruth and Johnny for a few seconds before he sighed. “I’ve filled the Angel up and it’s time to go. Find Hope and meet me back at the plane.”
Just like that, he was out the door again, probably to get ready for takeoff. Ruth’s heart sank at the realization that she was having to leave. It seemed he also came to the same conclusion as he turned toward her and sighed.
“Looks like you’ve gotta go,” he said softly, slightly tilting his head to the side as he peered down at her.
The nurse looked at the door, then lowered her gaze to her feet. “It sure does.”
She almost gasped in surprise when something warm grasped her hand gently. Her eyes shot up to John’s hand that held delicately held hers. The contact sent a tingle up her arm and seemingly straight to her mind, muddying her thoughts.
“I'd like to see you again,” he murmured where only she could hear.
This quieter, softer version of him was unknown to Ruth, but she knew instantly that she liked the duality of Johnny.
The blush she’d resisted finally won and dusted her cheeks as she looked up at him. “I’d like that, too.”
John softly tugged her hand closer and bridged the distance between them slowly, his entrancing eyes flicking between her eyes and lips. Ruth could hear her heartbeat in her ears as she stood on her toes to meet him. She felt his warm breath on her face, and her eyes fluttered closed, anticipating the kiss. But before their lips could meet, the door opened again, and Frank called out to her.
“Ruth, come on! You can neck the Major later!”
The door quickly creaked closed.
Heat rushed to Ruth’s face, and she reluctantly pulled back from Johnny, setting her heels back on the ground. Johnny awkwardly stood to his full height, glaring at the door where Frank stood moments before.
“I’ll see you next time, Johnny,” Ruth smiled bashfully, gently squeezing his hand once before dropping it. She walked backward to the door, praying she wouldn’t trip.
Johnny let out a huff of air as the biggest smile grew on his face. “So there will be a next time?”
She simply grinned at him, shrugging her shoulders when she turned to open the door. With one last look over her shoulder, she closed the door behind her.
The infirmary was silent for a few seconds, and then the patients erupted in hollers, cheers, and whistles.
“Way to go, Bucky!”
“Leave some for the rest of us, Major!”
Amid their uproar, John remembered a crucial detail: She hadn’t given him her address! He took off toward the door, reaching for the handle when it creaked open, revealing a laughing Ruth on the other side. She held out the slip to him.
“I think you behaved well enough, Major.”
“Told you,” he chimed, his eyebrows raising. “Scout’s honor.”
John took the paper from her outstretched hand and watched as she left once again. When the door had slammed shut behind her, he read the note to himself with a wide smile.
Hotshot,
You can write me at the Grove, Berkshire, Hut 4. I like you, so try not to get shot down before I can return your letter, and I’ll do the same.
Safe Flying,
Ruth Morgan
Johnny shot his hand with the paper into the air, and the men cheered once again. Ruth, on the other hand, was in disbelief of what had just transpired. She had almost kissed him! She wanted to kiss him! Running her hands through her hair, she tried to focus on the task at hand: finding Hope.
Ruth ran around the base like a chicken with her head cut off looking for the woman, and was about to give up when she saw her sitting in a jeep with Buck in the distance.
“HOPE! There you are, I've been looking everywhere. Frank fueled up the plane. We have to go,” Ruth huffed, clearly out of breath from running, but her flushed cheeks, Hope thought, told a different story.
“Okay, I'll be over in five minutes,” Hope promised, but Ruth didn't look convinced.
“Your five minutes or an actual five minutes?” She asked, and the glare Hope sent her way had Ruth turning around and heading back in the direction she’d come.
“Okay, but I'll be timing you,” she yelled over her shoulder.
When Ruth looked back to see Hope kissing Buck on the cheek, it occurred to her that maybe there were more trips to Thorpe Abbotts in the cards for both of them.

𝐵𝓁𝒶𝒹𝑒
Looking at the ground in defeat, the taste of blood in your mouth just made you sick, but that was the least of your worries, not while your entire body was in so much pain, your blood seeping onto your clothes, having a huge red stain on them along with a large gash on your side, as while attempting to walk but failing and resorting to limping. Oh, just your luck; you should have been more cautious. This is the price you have to pay for that foolishness.
Before you could make it to the door, your body had given up on you, collapsing to the floor. The sound of a loud thud was just right in front of the door, but you couldn't do anything; you were too tired and weak, and you could barely feel anything other than the overwhelming sense of agony. You tried to reach for the door to open it, but failed.
Your eyelids are half-way open, threatening to close completely. "You look quite terrible, my dear," a soft voice spoke to you, and of course you knew who it was: Kafka. It was painful to lift the eyelids to meet Kafka's eyes. "Do you need any help? "You seemed to be in quite a lot of pain," she hummed. "What does it look like?" you mumbled.
She helps you up and has you leaning against her. "Now, let's get you to your dear bladie." Kafka smiles at you, and you already know how he's going to react—completely mad—but you are just so damn exhausted from all this pain that you can't do anything about it, taking to leaning against a wall.
"Bladie I have your dear lover."
Kafka lets go of you and pushes you towards him, your body falling down before he caught you and held you up and against his chest, saying, "Bye now, take good care of them." Kafka smiles at Blade before taking her leave and leaving you both alone with each other, before he groans and looks at your messed-up appearance.
Before he put his arms under your legs, lifting you up with your head resting on his shoulder, closing your eyes, and just letting go of yourself, you knew once you woke that you would be fine since it was a blade, and he would make sure that you were fine.

How about Buck taking care of a sick or injured Tommy? 🥹
Hi anon! I didn't edit or even read through what I wrote so I hope it makes some kind of sense, lol. Also, apparently, my thought of a short little story is almost 2000 words so... here you go:
The last time Buck was at the hospital had for once been for a good reason: his sister’s wedding. The memory of getting to kiss Tommy in front of strangers without a care in the world was a good addition to the day that Buck definitely thought about every once in a while. Well, actually, Tommy, in one way or another, was constantly on his mind these days.
He just wished that he could’ve kept thinking about their dates that had happened, some better than others, and the ones that were to happen in the future. Instead, his mind was filled with worry, and yet, still Tommy.
He knew, better than anyone, that being the partner of a firefighter could be stressful. Not everyone could handle it.
And now, as he was rushing around the hallways, trying to find the room number he’d been told over the phone, he understood. He wasn’t sure if he could handle this.
”Wait, wait, wait,” a nurse, much shorter than him, stepped in between him and the door that Tommy was supposed to be behind.
”My boyfriend’s in there!” He huffed out, a little more loud and aggressive than he meant to sound.
”Are you Evan?” The nurse asked then, her voice softening.
”Yeah,” he breathed out.
”Well, go on in then. He’s been talking a lot about you,” the nurse said, now smiling, and opened the door for him.
They hadn’t told him details of what had happened but the words ’Tommy’, ’injured’ and ’hospital’ had made him panic and leave his shift early. But Tommy, apparently, was talking and as Buck stepped into the room, he could see that he was also sitting there, chatting with another nurse, and most importantly, he was still breathing.
”Tommy,” Buck gasped out his name and hurried to stand next to his bed.
His hands hovered over Tommy’s shoulders, his chest, and he didn’t know where he could touch him without hurting him. The nurse was placing some kind of bandage on his leg and there were bloodied tissues thrown off to the side.
”What happened? D- Did the helicopter go down?” Buck asked, hearing and feeling the way his voice trembled. ”Or we-were you on the ground? Did you-”
”Evan,” Tommy interrupted him, taking his hands into his. ”I’m okay.”
”You’re in a hospital,” Buck reminded him. ”Do you have a concussion? Do you-”
”Tell him that I’m alright, please,” Tommy asked the nurse, his voice a little raspy now that Buck really focused on it. There was some soot on his face.
”No concussion,” the nurse told him, standing up straight now that the bandage was on. ”But twelve stitches is no joke.”
”Twelve?” Buck asked, genuinely shocked. ”How-”
”Baby,” Tommy interrupted him once again. ”I promise I will tell you all about it once I’ve gotten some rest, alright? I’m exhausted.”
Right. He’d been on a 24-hour shift.
Buck tried his best to pull himself together and cleared his throat, ”Right. Right… Well, can we leave? You’re coming to stay at my place.”
”Evan, you don’t have to-”
”Actually, I’m coming over to your place. The loft has stairs and I doubt it’ll be easy for you to climb them with your leg like that,” Buck wondered out loud, completely ignoring Tommy’s reply to him. ”I don’t have a shift tomorrow and I doubt you’ll be going back to work for at least a few days or until those stitches come off, so-”
”Evan, I’m fine,” Tommy told him once more. ”You don’t have to worry about me.”
”I’ll go get your discharge papers,” the nurse commented quickly before Buck could reply and slipped out of the room.
”You are not fine,” Buck huffed out, sitting on the edge of the bed. ”And you don’t need to pretend like you are, babe. Injuries suck. I would know.”
”Yeah,” Tommy said with a dry chuckle. ”But I swear, it doesn’t hurt much and they told me that I’m allowed to walk normally as long as I’m careful, so I can take care of myself, you don’t have to-”
”I want to,” Buck whispered to him, finally daring to touch Tommy’s shoulder. ”I want to take care of you. I want to come home with you and I want to make sure you have everything you need. You scared me.”
That seemed to finally make Tommy speechless. He looked at Buck for a while and Buck desperately wanted to ask him what he was thinking about but decided to wait instead.
”Okay,” Tommy said eventually.
”Okay,” Buck sighed, relieved.
”I didn’t mean to scare you,” Tommy continued then, resting their foreheads together.
Buck shook his head, ”Not your fault. This is what our job is like. As long as you just keep being as careful as possible, I’ll… I’ll be able to handle it.”
”Right back at you,” Tommy said with a small smile.
Buck pressed their lips together for a short moment.
Tommy was lying on his couch with his leg propped up by pillows that Buck had gathered from around the house. Buck had made a quick meal of the ingredients he’d found in Tommy’s fridge, which often was chicken and vegetables, and that was no different today.
And now, he was just staring.
Tommy had been napping on and off for the past three hours they had been at home. Buck kept his distance, not wanting to disturb his sleep any more than it seemed to be disturbed by his dreams already.
And it was only when he woke up with a gasp more violent than before, Buck finally rushed over to his side. He ran his hands through the curls that had appeared after the very interesting shower session they’d had (nothing sexy, just difficult because of his leg injury) and hushed him.
”It’s okay, you’re at home,” he whispered to Tommy, who was now blinking up at him. ”I’m here.”
Tommy took hold of his free hand, squeezing it so tightly that it almost hurt. He licked his dry lips and swallowed, before resting his head back against his pillow, taking in a deep breath.
”Christ,” he mumbled under his breath.
Buck kept gently scratching his scalp with the tips of his fingers, ”You’re okay, it was just a nightmare. I’m here.”
”Thank God for that,” Tommy whispered to him, somehow holding onto his hand even tighter.
”What did you dream about?” Buck asked once Tommy’s breathing seemed to be under control.
”Today,” Tommy replied, shaking his head a little. ”The call we got was horrible.”
”I’m sorry,” Buck whispered, dropping his hand to Tommy’s neck and rubbing the warm skin there.
”We were called to assist because we were nearby, even though they didn’t air support,” Tommy explained to him. ”Some kid had set the school on fire and with the way the building looked, I doubt it was up to any kind of code. It was like a piece of paper, just burning away.”
Buck nodded, listening.
”There was a spot where the fire was at its worst. Obviously, we started from there,” Tommy continued. ”We went in. There were a lot of kids still stuck inside and we just… We had to get them out. The hallways were confusing… The fire seemed to be everywhere. And the screaming…”
Buck sighed, now gripping Tommy’s hand back, just as tightly.
”The floor gave in, me and two other firefighters went down with it. None of the kids did, thank God,” he said. ”The next thing I remember is being carried out of the building. I don’t think I even hit my head that hard, I mean, I don’t even have a concussion, but… I don’t know if it was just the shock that made me black out for a moment.”
”And what happened to your leg?” Buck asked softly.
”I’m not sure…” Tommy replied. ”Something sharp must have sliced it on the way down. I don’t remember being in pain. Not until I was in the ambulance anyway…”
Buck nodded, ”I was so scared when they called me.”
”I’m sor-”
”No,” Buck stopped him immediately, placing a finger against Tommy’s lips, ”I don’t want you to apologize for getting hurt. I want to know when these things happen and I want you to tell me about them because… I know what it’s like to suffer through these things alone. To keep those thoughts inside your head. I don’t want that for you. You don’t have to do that. Not with me.”
The smallest of smiles spread on Tommy’s lips. He tilted his head a little.
”Noted,” he said, bringing his hand to rest against Buck’s cheek. ”Thank you, baby.”
Buck kissed his palm.
”Do you often get nightmares after something like this happens?”
”Not really, no,” Tommy told him, sounding genuine. ”In my nightmare, you were there. Don’t get me wrong, the whole call was horrible, especially because kids were involved but… In my nightmare, you were there and went down as well and I couldn’t find you-”
He paused to take in another deep breath.
”Hey,” Buck whispered, leaning closer. ”I’m right here.”
”I know,” Tommy said, now looking at him intensely, the way that he often did when he wanted to make sure Buck was truly hearing him. ”The thought of losing you… Terrifies me, Evan. When I met you for the first time, I- I thought you were cute but I couldn’t have realized how much you’d end up meaning to me.”
”You mean a lot to me too,” Buck told him. ”And the thought of losing you terrifies me as well but I guess that’s- that’s the price that we’re going to have to pay for doing what we do and being together. I’m willing to live with that. Are you?”
Tommy nodded, ”Of course, Evan. Of course.”
”Good,” Buck said with a small smile, trying his best to ignore his eyes welling up just the smallest amount. ”Because you’re not getting rid of me. I am not going anywhere, Tommy, and even if the damn universe tries to take me away from you, I won’t let it.”
”That is… a lot,” Tommy chuckled gently.
”It’s the truth,” Buck whispered and pressed their lips together.
He allowed himself to linger, knowing that no one would interrupt them.
”Now rest up. I’ll heat up some food and when you’re feeling like it, we’re going grocery shopping. I know you’re all about working out and all that but I will not have my boyfriend only eating chicken and vegetables,” Buck rambled to him as he got up from his seat and started making his way toward the kitchen.
He turned to look back at him before stepping into the kitchen and found Tommy looking right back at him.
Buck smiled, ”I love you.”
And Tommy smiled right back. ”I love you too, Ev.”
They would be just fine.

would you be willing to write about School AU Jock!Sett whose mama is the school nurse? i want Sett’s mama to get Sett to take care of you who visit the sick bay monthly for insane period cramps please 👉👈
✖ School AU! Sett Comfort ✖
✖ Word Count: 670
✖ Tags: Mutual Pining
✖ A/N: I imagine him as Vastayan still! Wasn't too sure if you wanted a scenario or headcanons so I wrote a little scenario for you. Have fun I got a little carried away and wrote a lot!
----
It was horrible. Absolute shit. You almost trip from the pain as you make your way to the nurses' office. The familiar smell of antiseptic hits your nose as you step in.
" Oh my are you alright? It's that time again huh?"
You nod as the sweet nurse helps you to the bed. You were a regular here, whenever it was that time of the month, you found yourself crippled in the infirmary beds. Over time you slowly figure out that the pretty Vastayan was the school's star player, Sett's, mom. His constant injuries making sense as to why his mother was the school nurse. Poor lady sees him every other sports game. It almost felt like he was getting hurt on purpose to be sent here sometimes.
" Sett! Come help."
She calls out to her son who was slacking off in the other bed. There's a small mumble as he gets up, the sound of the chair against the floor grating against your ears.
" I'm tired ma- Oh hey, its you again."
He whines as he gets up, his head pops through the curtain, about to complain, before he realizes it's you. He has gotten used to seeing you around, you were, too, a regular here anyway. He never really learnt your name, but by now he knew the routine to help you out.
Running off he comes back within minutes with a hot water bottle, painkillers with water and some chocolates from the secret stash in the infirmary. That damn jock was really fast! You thank him as you grab the array of things from his hands. He sits down by your side, almost affectionately patting your head as his ears seem to twitch, seemingly excited to be of use to you.
" Let me know if you need anything, the great Sett's got your back."
He laughs, giving you an almost cheesy wink. His signature cocky smile plastered across his face. It almost draws a laugh out of you. Seeing you smile again brings a warmth to his heart. Sett doesn't really understand what it was. Maybe it was just how you seem so genuinely appreciative of his help, or how you tolerate his boisterous activity. Or was it something more?
" Let me know if you wanna be alone alright?"
How could you chase him away, his messy hair falling to his face as he turns to smile at you. Sett's fluffy ears flicking to the side. His boyish charm was too much you let him stay. Sitting by your side, Sett does some homework on the desk beside you, just accompanying you while you suffer. Hoping his presence somehow comforted you. You don't even know why Sett's mom always gets him to help you out. Maybe she was just using him as some free manual labor for making her treat his bumps and bruises so often to be honest. After a few moments of silence he turns back to you.
" I read somewhere that having someone like, rub or hold your stomach or something helps...so if you uh...need some help I got you alright?"
It was almost adorable, his hand behind his head as he rubs his hair messing it up further. He read up on how to help you? How sweet! If you weren't blushing, Sett sure was. He had no reason to try and help you so much, was it him trying to do his job properly as his mom's helper or was it because of you? You couldn't figure it out but you gave him the OK anyway. His large warm hand lightly pressing against your abdomen. Surprisingly it helped. A lot. As the pains begin to fade, you can't help but drift off to sleep, exhausted from the cramps. Sett never left you side even through that, his left hand resting on you as he continued with his homework with his right. He was there for you, whatever small casual relationship the two of you had in this small room in the school.

Going Home
NSFW Content Warning For Simeon's Fantasies
MC
While Mammon and Luke still want to find a fairy ring, the rest of us are exhausted. I could be persuaded to continue the search, but it's clear that both Simeon and Satan are over it, so I suggest that we end our little adventure and head home.
As expected, Satan practically has to drag Luke and Mammon towards the opening of the woods. I stay behind with Simeon. He's been silent since our return from the past, and he seems like he's about to break at any moment.
"Hey," I murmur. "You okay?"
"No." Simeon's response is blunt, almost rude-sounding. But, he did succumb to wrath multiple times over the span of 48 hours, and that can't be good for his mental health, especially since he's an angel.
"Anything I can do to help?"
"Unless you can find the Fairy of the Wood and bring me his head, then no." He clearly sees my confusion, for he explains,
"He was waiting for me in the observatory. He revealed that he sent us to that particular period of time."
"Did he explain why?" The chuckle that comes out of his mouth is unusually harsh.
"Oh, he explained, alright. He wanted to play matchmaker by getting you and me alone. He was going on and on about how you would be so good for me, and the more he kept talking, the more I wanted to punch him in the face."
There's a part of me that is hurt by his angry tone. Did I do something that made him change his entire opinion of me since the carnival? I mean, I did cause his first surge of wrath during this trip. While it was a complete accident on my part, I can see how that might cause him to reconsider what he thought of me. Am I too dangerous for him?
"There is one positive thing that came out of our conversation," he continues, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a few flowers.
"Is that what I think it is?" I ask. Simeon nods.
"He was amused by our little adventure. Plus, he didn't want to see Luke sad."
"How much did he give you?"
"Enough for Barbatos' tea and Luke's sweet treats."
"What about Mammon?" A slight smirk.
"The Fairy of the Wood explicitly told me to not let him get a hold of even one petal. Apparently, Mammon's created a bunch of messes for him to clean up over the years, and he's sick of it."
"That reminds me: I have a note for you."
"Not from him, I hope?" I shake my head. "Good. I'll read it when we return to the Manor."
~~~
Later, At the Manor
After securing my room from possible intruders, I give Simeon the note that Lucifer the angel wrote for him. Upon reading it, he develops an amused look on his face.
"Leave it to Lucifer to tell me what I need to hear," he mutters, setting the note down on my desk.
"What do you mean by that?" I ask, making myself comfortable on my bed.
"We used to write notes for each other all the time, giving each other advice. All the seraphs had to write in Latin, and any correspondence was subject to inspection at any time. So, the two of us created a code using simple phrases that wouldn't raise suspicion." That makes sense, especially if they were talking about taboo topics that would get them in a lot of trouble if they were caught.
"So, what is Lucifer advising you to do?"
"To stop thinking so much and simply follow my heart." Simeon pauses, taking a deep breath.
"Ever since we said goodbye the last time, you've been on my mind," he continues. "It's like you've set up permanent camp there and refused to leave no matter what I do. Knowing you has been both a blessing and a curse."
"Why's that?"
"Because I would do anything for you, MC, even if it cost me my life." He walks over and sits beside me on the bed, adding rather softly,
"But I also want to completely destroy you."
I should be scared by his statement, but instead I see it as an invitation to do what I wasn't able to do in the Celestial Realm woods earlier. I extend my hand out to Simeon, and he silently takes it.
The visions comes immediately. At first, they're merely memories of our time together, but then the emotions come in full force.
Sadness. Longing. Excitement. Lust.
He leans in and kisses me, and the memories morph into something else.
I see us going at it in his bed.
My bed.
Up against walls.
Over tables.
On top of counters.
In tight spaces.
His wrath gets mixed in with his lust.
Hair pulling.
Choking.
Name-calling.
A rough, unrelenting pace.
In front of the brothers.
Solomon.
The royals.
Angels I assume to be Michael and Raphael.
Someone that appears to be God Himself.
I gently pull away, ending the kiss. Glancing down at my hand, I notice a star that wasn't there before. Showing it to Simeon makes him smile softly.
"The star of patience," he murmurs. "It suits you." He leans in again, gently grabbing my chin between two of his fingers.
"Someday, when our roles are reversed, I'd like you to be my guardian angel."
It’s been a few days since the strange text, and you aren’t sure whether to be relieved or nervous that’s all you received. Normally, you’d pass this off as a joke or an accidental text, but considering the circumstances, you just can’t. You’ve tried everything: texting back, tracing it, and alerting the police. But all you discover is that the number no longer exists, which makes you wonder if this is the work of magic.
Is it from Lan? Nanook? You doubt it. Why bother with a text when you've already met Lan? So, a sick prank from Childe, maybe? Or, is it the mystery man behind Lan and Nanook? The questions drive you crazy, and you wonder if this is the motive behind this ridiculous text. Once you've exhausted your options in figuring out this mysterious number, Dan Feng suggested something that caught everyone's attention at Bailu's apartment yesterday night.
"If Furina exists, it's safe to say that The Great Purge failed," Dan Feng said. "She wouldn't have managed to live this long."
Bailu sighed. "You know... I've been thinking. The mystery person behind Lan and Nanook's escape. What are they, exactly? A god? Someone like Furina?"
"Whoever they are, they knew about the teleporter," Neuvilette said. "That much is for sure."
"I think it's safe to say that they're behind this psychological game," Dan Feng said, nodding to your phone. "They're using magic, which means they found a way to wield it."
"But, couldn't they be like us?" Bailu mused. "They keep using magic until their power is completely gone?"
"Then, they should know how valuable it is to save their magic. Why would they use it on this?" Zhongli asked. "If we are assuming that Lan and Nanook are supposed to be doing the dirty work."
Neuvilette exhaled softly. "Perhaps they are like Furina. However, that wouldn't make sense either as we haven't seen her wield magic. She may have wrote The Book of Curses and lived for an abnormally long time, but that's about it."
You lean back on the couch. "Here's another thought. Who's to say other people didn't know about The Great Purge before it happened?"
Dan Feng briefly closed his eyes and nodded. “True.”
After a short silence, Neuvilette said:
“I suppose the question is... What caused The Great Purge to fail?"
"That's a loaded question," Bailu said. "Like... Where are we going to start?"
“Perhaps the place where we performed the ritual,” Dan Feng said. “The place where The Great Purge first started.” A pause. “My old home.”
You’re working at the office today while Dan Feng takes a little adventure back to the palace. Despite looking at your laptop screen, your attention is on your phone, hoping you’ll get an update in the group chat you share with the dragon gang.
A co-worker taps your desk, and you immediately look up. "He wants to see you now."
You got the message this morning that the team is getting a new temporary leader who’ll be supervising the group and the project’s progress. You don’t know much except that it’s a man, and he wants to meet the group members individually when he arrives later in the day.
You head upstairs, walking past busy-looking employees until reaching the quiet corridor. You aren’t sure why, but the closer you get to his office, you feel uneasy.
You knock once, and immediately a voice says:
“Come in.” You open the door and see a man with long dark blue hair with red tips and red eyes. He gestures for you to take the empty seat in front of him. “Take a seat.” So, you do, and he introduces himself as Yingxing.
“I… think we’ve met before,” you say, a little skeptically.
You’re trying to remember why he looks familiar when he says:
“Has Dan Feng mentioned me?” Your heart almost drops to your stomach. Dan Feng? How does he know about Dan Feng? He picks up on your confusion and slightly smiles. “Some people know me as Blade.”
Should you feign ignorance?
“Interesting name,” you finally say. “Why the alias?”
“Yingxing is a more fitting name for this generation, but you can call me whatever you feel most comfortable with.” His elbow is on the armrest, and you don't like the look in his eyes. It's as if he's studying you. "Dan Feng is looking for the Aeons, is he not?" He slightly leans closer. “Or, is he looking for you?”
Unfazed, you give him a deadpan look.
“I’m getting tired of explaining that I’m not someone from the past. How do you know about me?”
“I know he's secretly looking for the woman who betrayed him. He’s never admitted it, but I know he wants answers. And... you say you're not someone from the past, but it's telling me otherwise."
You narrow your eyes. "What's telling you otherwise?"
“I am not supposed to exist,” Blade says sternly. “When The Great Purge happened, it was supposed to rid magic from the world. But something went wrong.” A slight pause. “I would think you know about The Great Purge.”
“I do. I also know that you were the one who told Furina to write The Book of Curses." You cross your arms. "If anything went wrong, I would suspect you had something to do with it.”
“A bold accusation, but I suppose it’s logical.” You almost roll your eyes. “But it wasn’t me. I never wanted immortality.”
"...So, you're like Furina. You never died? You just continued to exist?"
Blade almost chuckles. "Ah, so you know that much already." Then, his expression turns stoic. "Immortality is possible if you know the right people." Right people…? “There’s only so much you can accomplish without external resources.”
“What do you want?” you ask. “You say you’re here because someone granted you immortality. Do you think it’s Dan Feng? Is that why you're asking about him?”
“I’d like some answers.”
“How are you so sure he’s the one responsible?”
“You sure have a lot of trust in him. I don’t know whether to call you courageous or foolish. If you are the reincarnation of the woman he hates… he’ll kill you.”
“I’m not,” you say bitterly. “So, you don’t have to worry about that.”
“So you say.” Blade leans back, and his eyes land on your necklace. “Who gave that to you?”
“Why do you ask?”
“You asked me earlier what's telling me you're someone from the past." He points to your necklace with his pen. "There's your answer."
◆◆◆
Pierro is working in his office when he gets a call. He reaches for the phone and hears his receptionist’s voice on the other end.
“You have a visitor.”
“I’m not expecting anyone today,” Pierro says. “Whoever it is can wait.”
“Are you sure, Sir? Tsaritsa is here to see you, and…” Pierro hears some muffled conversation. “She won’t take no for an answer.”
Pierro shuts off his monitor screen. “All right.”
It’s not like he has a choice.
Tsaritsa arrives shortly after in her familiar dark blue dress. Her hair, tucked behind her ears, is pulled back into a fancy braid, and her makeup is uncharacteristically bold with a dark red lip and gold smokey eyeshadow.
“I thought the event would keep you until late,” Pierro says, gesturing for her to sit on the sofa. He stands and walks to a long table near the large window. “Coffee? Tea?”
“I finished reading the diary,” Tsaritsa says. Pierro, who’s pouring himself coffee, stops halfway and puts the decanter back in its place. “And I want to know more about the woman your ancestor mentioned… Idrila.”
Pierro turns around with his cup. “That impatient, huh? It can’t wait until later?” When she says nothing, he finds her silence a little suspicious. He turns around, pours her a coffee, and says, “Well, I don’t know how much I can tell you. I’ve never met her, obviously.”
Tsaritsa coughs, and he doesn’t think much about it until it starts sounding a little violent. Pierro turns around holding two cups of coffee and sees her hunched over with her hand over her chest. But what almost makes him drop the cups is when he sees blood on her hand. He quickly puts them down.
“Hey,” he says, running over to her side. “Are you okay?” He puts a hand on her back. “Did you take your meds?”
“I’m fine,” she says calmly, reaching over to grab a tissue. She puts it to her mouth and straightens up. “...I’m fine.”
Pierro, one of the few who knows Tsaritsa has more than just a weak body, still looks worried. “Are you sure? Have you been taking your medication?”
Tsaritsa looks at him, a look that screams that he’s asking the wrong questions. “I said I'm fine, Pierro."
Pierro frowns. “I’ve noticed, you know. You’ve been coughing a lot more, and your fatigue is getting the best of you. I wouldn’t be surprised if the others are picking up that something is wrong.” He sighs. “Have you been seeing your doc—”
“Why do you think I’m here?” Her question takes him by surprise. “I know it’s getting worse.” She sighs to compose herself.  “But, you and I both know there is no cure.”
It was late at night, and Nanook was heading back to his room in the mansion when he saw the door of Tsaritsa's room ajar. As he got closer, he heard her cough. Once. Twice. And…
He stopped and peeked inside.
Tsaritsa was standing, hunched over her table. An old-looking open journal was off to the side. Nanook quietly opened the door, not wanting to startle her, but then he saw the blood on the table.
“You’re getting worse," he said. Before Tsaritsa could react, Nanook was already by her side. “It’s escalating.”
Tsaritsa's hand groped for the drawer as she took a breath. Finally, she got it open, and her hand shakily took out some pills. When she had trouble opening the bottle, Nanook helped her and watched her down two pills.
“...I’m fine.”
“Really?” Nanook asked, not convinced. He glanced at the blood. “This says otherwise.”
“What are you doing here?” She grabbed the journal and closed it. Nanook realized it was the journal from Pierro. “It’s late.”
“Well, I heard you coughing, and”—he looked at the blood—”do I need to say more?”
“It’s nothing,” she answered calmly. “I’m getting better.” Then, she put a hand on top of the journal. “You knew Pierro’s ancestor, didn’t you?”
Nanook slides a hand inside his pocket. “So, that old geezer mentioned me after all. Should’ve known.”
“This woman that you and Lan were so fond of…” Tsaritsa faced him. “Idrila. She was sick, and after she poisoned herself to end her suffering, both of you wanted to bring her back to life.”
“Why are you so curious?” Nanook asked skeptically. “I thought what you wanted from that journal was to learn more about that pretty boy so we can get rid of him.”
“And I did learn something,” she answered. “But, this is my first time hearing about another woman.”
Nanook scoffed. “You sound like an obsessive ex.”
Tsaritsa suddenly grabbed him by the throat, but Nanook didn’t flinch. “Let’s stop playing games, shall we? Regardless of your reasons for staying in the human realm, I kept you around because you promised me one thing… You could find a cure.”
“And I haven’t stopped looking.”
“The sickness that Idrila had… She began coughing blood in its early stages.”
Now, Pierro understands.
“You don’t…” he begins. “Are you saying you have the same illness as her? That’s ridiculous! If what the journal says is true, it wasn't normal.”
“Wouldn’t that explain my circumstances?” Tsaritsa asks bitterly. “You’ve been with me since the beginning, Pierro. You, out of all people, should know how many times I’ve been told ‘I’m sorry… I wish we can do more.’”
“But that doesn’t mean it’s magic.”
The silence drags on… and on… and on.
“It’s because of Lan and Nanook, is it not?” Pierro asks. “Because of who they are and what they did, it feels like anything and everything can be explained because of magic. I know you want an explanation. I would, too. But this isn’t healthy.” He sits next to her and puts an arm around her shoulders. “We’ll get through this together.”
Will they, really? Tsaritsa has her doubts. Still, she knows Pierro means well unlike the others she met in her life.
She never knew her birth parents. Those at the orphanage never told her much about them either. It was a rainy night when they found Tsaritsa wrapped in a blanket in a large basket at the entrance of the orphanage. So, her childhood memories were with the kids who accepted her despite her weak body. But that didn't make life any easier as she watched them leave for loving homes. Pierro was the first. Arlecchino was the second, and Columbina was the third.
“Oh, I wish we could adopt her, but you see, we’re looking for…”
Tsaritsa believed she heard it all. Every single excuse one could think of for not wanting her, and all of them were about her condition. So, when a family decided to adopt her, she was over the moon until she discovered the truth.
“Is she asleep?”
No, Tsaritsa wasn’t. She was upstairs with a perfect view of her adopted parents in the living room below. But, they couldn’t see her as it was dark, and she blended in with the darkness.
“Yes,” her mother answered.
Her father sighed. “We… should’ve waited. Don’t you think? If we found out sooner you were pregnant, we wouldn’t have this problem.”
“Oh, it’s a little harsh to call it a problem, right? We were told that I couldn’t get pregnant… So, this should be a great surprise. Besides, Tsaritsa is a good kid for her age.”
“But, I’m thinking about the future. Now that we’ll have a child, I would like them to take over our business.”
“And… What about Tsaritsa?”
“I… I don’t want to assume the worst,” her father said. “But, will she live long enough to see the day?”
And since then, before Dan Heng’s mother was even born, Tsaritsa already hated her. But not as much as she hated her adopted father.
“You say it can’t be magic,” Tsaritsa says. “But do I need to remind you that it still exists? Lan, Nanook, and Dan Feng’s existence is enough proof.” She turns to Pierro. “Idrila was born with a weak body, but her condition was purposely made worse.”
“That doesn’t explain how you could’ve gotten it,” Pierro says.
“Did you read until the end?” Tsaritsa asks. “Before she died… She had a child.”
Pierro’s face goes pale.
◆◆◆
Bailu arrives at one of the largest hospitals in the city. She has her hands on her hips as she stares in pride that the hospital she helped to get off the ground is still doing well.
Despite being born with a condition that stunted her physical growth, Bailu easily soared above her classmates in terms of knowledge and talent. She was only ten years old when she graduated from one of the most elite universities in the nation and after two years of work experience in the field, she entered medical school. Graduating early, she had many great job opportunities but chose a small clinic, Bubu Pharmacy, that was just starting to get off the ground. With only two employees, Bailu was attracted to the idea of building something big from scratch. And it wasn’t until she brought someone back to life that Bubu Pharmacy completely changed.
It was a slow and rainy day, and Bailu was enjoying her usual conversation with her co-workers, Herbalist Gui and Baizhu when someone entered. As soon as they heard the bell, they spun around, shocked to see a drenched woman carrying a bleeding, young girl on her back.
“Please…” the woman muttered. She would’ve fallen to the floor if Baizhu hadn’t caught her. “Please help my daughter.”
“Y-You need a hospital!” Herbalist Gui said, a little shaken.
“There’s no time for that,” Bailu said, examining the young girl. “She’s… She’s already dying.”
The woman grabbed Bailu’s arm. “Please… Please save her.”
Bailu remembers the day like it was yesterday. The woman and the young girl were victims of a hit-and-run, and they wouldn’t have survived. Yet, the young girl did, and while it was thanks to Bailu, she didn’t like to mention it… as she took the woman’s life to save her.
“Did it…” Herbalist Gui said quietly, his eyes wide. “Did it work?”
The young girl and the woman were lying next to each other on a large table. Bailu stood on one side while Baizhu stood on the opposite.
“Bailu,” Baizhu said, and she looked up at the young girl. “You’re shaking.”
Bailu looked at her gloved hand covered in blood. It was true.
Suddenly, a painful groan grabbed everyone’s attention. Bailu almost gasped as the young girl’s eyes fluttered open.
“Wh… Where am I?”
“Oh, my God…” Herbalist Gui muttered. “She’s… She’s alive!” He looked at Bailu. “You did it!”
Except, Bailu wasn’t sure what to feel.
The young girl, confused and disoriented, finally saw her mother next to her. “M-Mom…!” She held her hand, and Baizhu saw the moment her heart dropped to her stomach. “You’re… You’re so cold.” She looked at the worried faces around her. “Who are you? Why is my mother—”
“She’s gone.”
No one expected Bailu to be so direct. Not even herself.
“She’s gone…?” the young girl repeated, and her voice barely above a whisper. “What do you mean she’s gone?”
“She gave up her life… to save yours.”
“No… That’s…” She looked from Bailu to her lifeless mother. “That’s impossible. You can’t—”
“That’s what we thought,” Bailu interrupted. “But you… You’re living proof.”
“This is huge,” Baizhu said quietly. “I never thought this could be possible.”
“How?” the young girl asked, her fists clenched. “If what you said is true, how did you do it?”
Bailu never thought she’d say it, and it felt more surreal after she did.
“Magic.”
They soon learned that the girl was named Qiqi, and with no other relatives, Bailu, Baizhu, and Herbalist Gui took her in and treated her as one of their own. But it wasn't long before they realized that transferring her mother's life to hers had consequences. Qiqi had stopped ageing, and she was physically stuck as a child. This had grabbed the attention of the locals and the media, and soon, Bailu was being pulled in all sorts of directions to research this strange phenomenon.
But Bailu had made one thing clear: She didn't want to do it again. She knew that Qiqi and her mother were supposed to die that night, but she played with fate at the desperate request of Qiqi's mother and won with conflicting feelings. By now, only a few individuals had access to developmental research about magic. Bailu was one of them. But instead of researching more about taking someone's life to give to another, she followed her interests in immunity and immortality, hoping that no one would ever have to give their life to save another again.
Despite times changing, Bailu is happy that Bubu Pharmacy—now Bubu Hospital—still retained its traditional look and feel. Baizhu, Herbalist Gui, and Qiqi would be happy knowing that Bubu Hospital is alive and well. As Bailu takes the elevator to the uppermost floor, she walks down the quiet corridor, not wanting to reminisce about the past… again. She has done it far too many times, knowing it doesn’t make the pain of losing them any easier.
She also doesn't want to remind herself that losing them has made her a murderer.
“Tsaritsa? Is that her name?”
Bailu stops. Did she hear that correctly? She takes a few steps back and peeks into the room. A man with long blonde hair sits with one leg crossed over the other in a chair. But it’s the man standing that grabs Bailu’s attention.
It’s him. It’s Nanook.
“I have reason to believe she’s Idrila’s descendant,” he says. “And you… You were her doctor, were you not, Luocha?”
Luocha? Why does that name sound so familiar?
It was a slow day for Bubu Pharmacy, so Bailu spent it working on her research. Baizhu was in the room next to hers, and he hadn’t come out since she saw him walk in this morning. Curious about what he was up to, Bailu left the room, saw Herbalist Gui and Qiqi attending to a couple of customers, and then softly knocked on Baizhu’s door.
“It’s open.”
Bailu opened the door and peeked inside. “Whatcha workin’ on?”
“Oh, you know…” Baizhu sighed, his eyes still on some experimental equipment on his table. “I don’t know if you heard… but the princess of the nation developed a strange illness.”
“I’ve heard bits and pieces, but not entirely sure what it is she got.”
“It’s supposed to be confidential,” Baizhu said. “They don’t want to cause any unnecessary panic.”
“Figures,” Bailu muttered.
“But, as much as they want it to be confidential, we won’t get anywhere if we don’t share information.”
“She’s losing blood, isn’t she?”
“Rather than losing, it’d be more accurate to say something is draining her blood,” Baizhu said, and Bailu raised a brow. “They say it’s because of a spy from the neighbouring nation.”
Bailu wasn’t surprised that those in power would want to direct the blame to others, and what better scapegoat to use than their biggest enemy nation? As she never liked those in power, she never bothered with remembering names or faces. Leaders were all the same. Greedy. Power-hungry. Two-faced.
“Do they want you to use magic to cure her?” Bailu asked.
“Well… That’s the thing,” Baizhu said quietly. “There’s no magic that can. Not right now, at least. Perhaps it also has its limitations or more research needs to be done.”
“Huh… How interesting that not even magic can provide a solution.”
“They’re bringing in another doctor to see if he can provide some insight,” Baizhu said. “I’m meeting with him tomorrow.”
“Really? Who?”
“Someone named Luocha.”
“How long are you going to keep standing there?” Luocha’s green eyes meet hers through the crack in the door. “You’re welcome to come in.
The door suddenly slides open.
“Well, well, well,” Nanook says with a small grin. “Look who it is.”
Chapter 15
End notes:
And the mystery deepens...
I promise to make the timeline a little clearer lmao. But, for now, Bailu and Dan Feng would've been human in the same time period but Bailu "died" before the invasion happened. For some reason, this chapter was kinda difficult to write. Regardless, I hope you enjoyed learning more about Tsaritsa and Bailu. And damn this chapter was hard to name lol.
Pairing: Copia x Sick Reader
Words: 2222
Contains:
Comfort Gender-Neutral Reader Fluff Cuddling
Read A Ghoul's Sick Day on AO3 - If you prefer that.
Edit: so I am dumb and I couldn't figure out for the life of me how Tumblr works but credit goes out to @ghostussy for a major source of inspiration when it came to writing this fic. Please show them your love too <3
Meant to publish this earlier because I wrote this a while ago but editing my work took a whileeeeee - thank you for your patience <3
The blaring alarm pierced the sanctuary of sleep, yanking you from dreams that seemed to slip away like smoke. Clutching your head, you squinted at the digital numbers on your phone, plugged in to the outlet next to your bed, which is laying on your bedside table, struggling to make sense of their meaning through the haze of fatigue. Your bedroom remained dimly lit, the remnants of night clinging to the edges of the curtains. You'd called it an early night, seeking refuge in your dorm after an exhausting day of work.
Yet, as you pushed yourself to sit up, a realization dawned like a cold shower. A wave of nausea and fatigue had descended upon you the previous evening, rendering the simplest tasks a struggle. Your bones ached as though they'd been beaten, and your head throbbed with each heartbeat.
Fumbling for your glasses on the nightstand, you slid them onto your face, expecting the world to come into focus. Instead, you were met with a blur, the edges of your vision smudged and unfocused. Even the soft light filtering through the curtains felt like a searing stab, forcing you to squint and shield your eyes.
You sighed, propping yourself against the pillows, your thoughts tangled in a web of concerns. The day ahead promised a demanding schedule—classes, music practice, dinner duty, and library work. Your mind raced, thoughts colliding like stormy waves in the vast sea of responsibilities. A pang of dread nestled itself in your chest, coiling like a serpent. The urge to retreat back under the covers was strong, but the echoes of expectations and commitments held you captive.
As you stood, the room swayed slightly, the ground beneath your feet feeling more like a ship's deck in a storm. Each step required a conscious effort, as if gravity itself had conspired against you. With painstaking determination, you moved towards the bathroom mirror. A face stared back at you, the reflection drawn and weary. Dark circles marred the skin beneath your eyes, despite the early bedtime you put yourself through the day before.
A mental checklist formed, a reminder of all the tasks that lay ahead. But first, you needed to combat this relentless headache. You reached for the painkillers, hoping they'd provide a brief respite from the throbbing torment. The duo of pills slipped down your throat, followed by a quick gulp of water from your bottle - a bitter reminder of your body's protest against its own demands.
In your university attire - an oversized hoodie, worn black jeans, sneakers—you slung your backpack over your shoulder. The weight felt heavier today, each strap a reminder of the commitments you had to fulfill. You pushed open the door of your dorm, stepping into the common area of the ghouls, your fellow dorm mates. Laughter echoed, a stark contrast to the turmoil within you.
The hallway beckoned, a corridor of decisions and responsibilities. Yet, fate had its own plans, for as you turned the corner, you collided with none other than Copia, the enigmatic lead singer of the Ghost Project – and its frontman.
"Morning, Papa, I'm off for the day," you greeted him, though the words wavered slightly.
His dark eyes, framed by his unique presence, scanned you with concern. "Mio Dolce," he responded, his voice holding a touch of warmth and inquiry. "Sathanas, you don't look too good."
You smiled, the expression an attempt to reassure both him and you "I'm fine, papa," you claimed, though even behind the glasses, he could likely sense the discomfort that painted your features.
His eyebrow arched, skepticism lacing his gaze. "You sure about that?"
"Of course," you replied, your conviction wavering as his gaze held steady.
In the midst of your exchange, a notification chimed on your phone. The class you dreaded facing had been cancelled, granting you a temporary reprieve. Copia's lips curved into a faint smile. "Good. You can go rest. You seem like you need it."
You hesitated, your fingers toying with the strap of your backpack. Guilt whispered in your ear, reminding you of all that remained to be done. Yet, Copia's concern was genuine, his insight piercing through the facade you'd built.
“No, no, it’s okay, I’ll get some work done since I’m up I suppose”
His voice held a note of finality. "Try again. You don't look good."
This time, you nodded, surrendering to the truth you'd been reluctant to admit even to yourself. The unspoken weight of expectations, both your own and those of others, settled heavily on your shoulders.
"Fine" you replied.
"Good. Feel better soon, mio dolce"
"Thanks, Papa"
You head back to your room, and collapse on your bed. You haven’t bothered making it this morning. A wave of nausea enthralls your entire body once again, forcing you to bury your head into your soft pillow in an attempt to quench the sickness.
Your thoughts whirl, you feel guilty for resting. You just can't get your head to shut up. You were still rather new to the ministry, and rather terrified of disappointing any of the staff members, especially since they took you in. You see them as family.
"Ah fuck this shit. I'm fine" you talk to yourself, a habit you’ve picked up as a child and carried into your older years. You forcibly prop yourself up again and head off to the library to get some work done, and to return a book you had borrowed the week before – a book on mushroom spotting and fungi. Your head still throbs, but the painkillers eased the pain slightly.
As you approach the library, you’re struck with the sudden remembrance of a commitment - you need to do some sorting and book counting, an assignment given to you by the head librarian the day before. As a university student, you often found yourself curled up in the library researching on whatever topic intrigues you, or strange information that is needed for your coursework. The library at the ministry was quite smaller than the one on the University Campus, but it had some works that were a rarity, it was also much quieter, allowing you to focus more. The head librarian was none other than Sister Claire – one of the older Siblings. She’d allowed you to sometimes work as an assistant librarian when you weren’t too busy. It was nice work, flexible and allowed you to get some extra pocket money. She assigned you to finish stacking some books while she wasn’t there, she was gone for a couple of days. Trip or something.
A couple of hours of you stacking and organising books goes by. You notice more nausea every time you get up from a kneeling position and vice versa. You don't care.
As the early afternoon sun filtered through the windows, your fingers finally set the last book in place on the shelf. Despite the sense of accomplishment, weariness weighed heavily on your bones. Your head throbbed in an unrelenting rhythm, each pulse a reminder of your body's protests. The lyrics of 'Square Hammer' seemed to echo in your mind, a fitting soundtrack to your pounding headache. With a resigned sigh, you recognized that the painkillers had lost their battle against the relentless ache. You pressed a hand to your temple, a feeble attempt to quell the growing nausea that threatened to engulf you."
You open the door out of the library when you come face to face with Copia once more.
"What are you doing here, Mio Caro? Weren't you supposed to be resting?"
"Oh..uh I had to return a book" *it was technically the truth*
"Were you working here all morning?"
"No"
"I came in the ghouls' common room to check in on you just now. You weren't in your room. Swiss told me you were out for most of the morning" he sighs, as he places his thumb and index finger on his forehead.
"Please...rest" Copia continues "you look like you're going to collapse."
"What--no I'm not. You don't need to worry" *a wave of dizziness and nausea hit you right as you say that*
"You're taking the rest of the day off. That is an order" Copia says, a hint of sternness in his voice.
"...fine.."
"I'll call Sister to tell her that you're unwell, and you can spend the rest of the day with me. Resting.
"Y-you don't have to do that" you shuffle out those words, feeling guilty for taking up space.
"Nonsense, Tesoro."
He took you to your room, waiting for you outside your bathroom while you change into your fluffy pyjamas. You walk outside into your dorm, surprised to see him holding a one-metre-long stuffed shark in his arms.
"This is your favourite plushie right?" He asks, his eyes gently gliding over yours.
"Yeah. How did you know?" You let out a chuckle, before losing focus due to yet another wave of vertigo hitting you.
"You told me, Caro."
"Did I?" You choke out, surprised he remembers these little details about you.
"You remembered"
"Of course, I did, Caro. I care about you, you're one of our ghouls."
He leads you to his chambers, holding your arm in case you collapse, while you're holding your Blåhaj in your other arm.
"You don't think I'm weird or childish?" You ask.
"Nonsense. If it brings you comfort and you're not hurting anyone or yourself, why should I think you're weird?" he chuckles as he leads you in his chambers.
Immediately you were struck by the cocooning feeling of comfort, a gentle light dancing from the window onto the bed. There was a television facing the bed, next to the door you had just entered from. You notice yourself holding in a bit of a giggle as you notice Copia’s beloved tricycle.
"Bed or couch? What do you prefer?" He inquired.
"Umm.."
"Bed it is, it's more comfortable. Trust me on this, Caro"
He gently leads you on the king-sized bed, propping your head up with soft pillows and ploughing a blanket on top of you. You snuggle into a fetal position, holding your stuffed shark. He brings you a glass of water and some more painkillers.
Upon you taking the water and medicine you drop your Blåhaj.
"Nooo! Sharky!" you whine, grabby hands towards the shark.
"You named it Sharky? That's cute" he speaks, as he picks up the shark and gives it back to you.
"Do you want to watch a movie? Maybe something that brings you comfort?"
"Sure?"
He lets you pick a DVD of your choosing, before propping it into the DVD player. You pick your childhood favourite.
"Our technology is a bit ancient here" he chuckles "sorry about that”.
"It's fine, papa" you smile. In all honesty it brings you comfort and nostalgia for your childhood days, when your mother used to leave you at your grandparents when you were ill.
Papa takes a seat next to you, laptop on him, typing next to you, while you watch the movie. Every once in a while he'd ask if you're feeling okay still.
Halfway through the movie you feel your eyelids getting heavy. Copia takes away his laptop and removes your glasses.
"Shhh it's okay, rest."
"Mmmm" you find yourself snuggling into Copia for warmth, before waking up. "Oh shit sorry Papa" you say, a wave of embarrassment further reddening your already flushed face.
"It's alright, Caro, you can snuggle with me all you want" he says as you rest your head on his shoulder “bring it in”.
Copia's touch was a symphony of reassurance, his fingers gliding with feather-light grace over your skin. As his arm curved around your shoulders, his palm settled gently against your upper arm, creating a cocoon of security. You could feel the warmth of his touch seeping into your bones, a soothing balm that eased the ache that had settled there.
His thumb brushed against the fabric of your pyjamas, a delicate, almost absentminded gesture that sent ripples of comfort through your senses. With a tender grace, his fingers traced gentle patterns, a silent lullaby against the canvas of your arm. The pad of his thumb brushed over your skin in languid strokes, creating a hypnotic rhythm that synced with the steady beat of your heart.
As the Blåhaj plushie nestled between you, Copia's touch remained a constant, grounding force. His fingertips brushed against the curve of your shoulder, a gesture that held both tenderness and protection. It was a touch that defied words, offering solace and support in its simplicity.
With every inhalation, his chest rose and fell against your head, the sensation a soothing cadence that lulled you into a sense of calm. His arm around you created a haven—a space where vulnerability was not met with judgment.
"You'll feel better in no time" Copia whispered to you gently, his tone taking an almost fatherly whisper.
As the room bathed in the soft glow of lamplight, the tactile connection between you and Copia transcended the physical. It was an exchange of comfort, of trust, of emotions that words could scarcely capture. And within the cradle of his embrace, you found a haven of acceptance, where the language of touch spoke louder than any explanation ever could. You found yourself drifting into sleep once more.
“Good night, ti amo.”
Note
(I read the new fic at 5am and wrote this a little past half 6 and the only reason this ask has any structure is because I took notes like an absolute lunatic- so please don’t grade me on my ask writing quality, I am a very tired strawb)
Playrough, I am currently recovering from a sickness of my own (a cold 😐) so the climactic release of this new fic feels like a wonderful gift from the universe. But it’s just convenient timing, and it’s from you, and by god was it worth the wait. I don’t know if you’ve got an update schedule in mind, but I’m am so stoked for more of this.
God Dazai was so pathetic- and I mean that in the best way; the wet cat energy dial was turned up to the absolute max. Christ if he wasn’t entitled to a bit of patheticness though, the baby was having a rough time.
Chuuya was also wonderful here- I like it when his thoughts to Dazai become so simplified to the point of primitivity. The “hurt baby, sad baby, must protect baby” bits always sound like it’s purely his alpha side thinking, and I LIKE that. I think the fact that he’s an alpha in this instead of a caregiver is really cool and I’m interested in how his alpha instincts and his relationship with Dazai could intersect. I was kinda picturing him going a bit feral when he was frantically trying to comfort Dazai, as he regressed in the bathroom.
Tsu and Ane-san’s gf are S tier ocs btw. No proper paragraph for that one, just that I was excited they got a cameo, Tsu’s utterly adorable, and I hope we see them again in the future.
Wait, no I did actually have a paragraph for that. But this is already way too long so I’m gonna let that be it’s own independent ask.
I loved all of the new fic, but my favourite bit was undoubtedly Chuuya’s daydream over giving Dazai a bath. It was such an earnest and innocent thing to fantasise about, yet it made so much sense why he’d crave giving the touch starved baby that type of love and care (I just love this Chuuya so much, man 🥲) but unfortunately, I ruined the entire scene for myself. Because while Chuuya was picturing the most idealistic, gentle, relaxing outcome of giving Dazai a bath, I was picturing an unspecific amount of years in the future, with a very different bath time scenario. Because realistically, Kunikida would not be living out Chuuya’s soothing daydream. Dazai’s bathtimes would be an exhausting, stressful and extremely wet occasion for him. He has two other littles to account for, both of which have zero boundaries when small and were amped up on their last bursts of energy before they crashed for bedtime. They did not care that they should be putting their pyjamas on- they wanted to play with their baby brother and nothing was keeping them out of the bathroom, dammit! And baby otter, the little traitor he is, was no help- squirming and splashing around, totally distracted by them as Kida’s desperately trying to scrub him down as quickly as possible. He can’t let them bathe together though, even if it shortens bath time down by a mile. Not after last time. Stressing out Kunikida has become an unfortunate pastime of mine and pairing it with Chuuya’s more relaxing potential experience makes me laugh more than it should.
In conclusion; the wet cat food was delicious and I’ll make sure to bring back many lizards as a show of gratitude.
-🍓
Another ask that I am going to print out and put under my pillow before i sleep in hopes i dream of this 🥺😭 the lizard….. i cherish it so……..
I live to torment kunikida via childish whimsy 😭 the Weekend at Kunikida’s House fic is brewing 😭😭😭😭😭 this whole thing was so precious omg of course baby otter is a traitor, he loves tormenting Kunikida as much as i do hehe
It's been a rough few weeks and I just got some bad news recently. Need a little bit of fluff in my life right now. For a prompt, how about Akari getting hurt, either emotionally or physically, and possibly trying to hide it from Ingo but him finding out anyway and helping her. Any verse would be fine.
i wrote 1k words of arms outstretch post-fic angst :,) this is definitely canon (to an extent, bc it's not yet finished, but the akari-problem is Real fjadsklfs) <3
-----
Unfortunately, Ingo hadn’t been with Akari in the realm Arceus had made for her. Therefore it was easy for it to slip his mind that she had trauma he didn’t always see. There were the obvious problems, of course. The way she clung to anyone around her, practically begging for the warmth of another body, was only getting better nearly a year after he’d gotten her back. She still frequently woke up from nightmares screaming and confused about where she was until Ingo could calm her down. Ingo himself wasn’t free from the repercussions either- every now and then he would walk into the kitchen and see a stranger making food, alarm shooting through him before he recognized his daughter. The fact that she had grown up some in their time apart didn’t help, and he mourned the years they’d lost.
But it was a long monsoon season that brought up one he’d failed to consider.
Looking back on it, it would make sense. Every time he’d met her within the dream area it had been raining. Heavy or light, a downpour or a drizzle, the rain had never stopped. While he had taken notice that every now and then her nightmares would be worse, that she would wake up screaming and terrified and refuse to let him go, the last several weeks had been so much worse. She had, of course, insisted that things were fine. That she didn’t know what was going on, why she couldn’t sleep, why when she did she would weep uncontrollably for several minutes.
Ingo was also beginning to lose sleep out of concern for his daughter. He slept lightly most nights, in spite of Emmet’s horrific snoring - the only time Emmet was louder than Ingo was at night - and each time Akari woke with a nightmare, Ingo woke with her. Jackie had pointed it out to Emmet who had forced Ingo to claim a sick day and stay home to get some sleep. Ingo protested, but when Emmet took all of their shoes with him to the subway he found himself sitting on the couch and staring out the window.
The rain had lessened for the first time in several days and was barely dripping, the sun breaking through clouds. Subway quickly made for the slim beam of light on the carpet, eager to soak up sunlight and warmth before it vanished again. Akari slipped out of her room, clearly exhausted. Her eyes had grown dark and were looking a little bloodshot. Ingo opened his arm in invitation and she collapsed onto the couch against him, pressing her cheek against his chest as she wrapped her arms around him. Ingo curled his arm around her shoulder in turn and let himself enjoy the peace. Gradually, Akari fell asleep on him, and for the first time in a while she was still.
And then the rain picked up again.
Ingo missed the first few twitches, mistaking them for her sleeping. He had been browsing his phone, looking through miscellaneous items for the house as well as new socks for work. The first whimper caught his attention, and then the grip tightening around him. He set his phone down and began to stroke his fingers through her hair, hoping it would put her at ease. It did, temporarily, but as the rain grew heavier and louder it ceased to work.
Thunder boomed, and with it Akari’s eyes shot open and she sprung to her feet. Ingo followed her up, saying her name before freezing.
She was standing in a way that he hadn’t seen in quite some time. Her shoulders were low, head hung down by her chest, and despite the fear she had been exhibiting in her sleep her breathing had also slowed. He watched as she took a deep breath in and let out a sigh before tilting her head back. Tears began to trickle down her cheeks as they stood there, Ingo uncertain of what to do.
“Akari?” He asked quietly.
The worst part was that she barely responded. She just turned her head a little and offered him a small smile.
“You’re here again.” she said quietly. A chill ran down Ingo’s spine.
“Here?” He asked.
She lifted a hand to wave lazily in the air.
“You know. Here.” There was a pause. “I’m glad it’s never wet. It’d be worse if it was wet.”
“If what was wet?”
“Everything! The rain never stops. I’m glad I can’t feel it.”
Fuck. The rain. Of course.
Akari was babbling on but Ingo had put his face in his hands.
The rain.
How many years had she spent in a downpour, never knowing when or if she’d make it out? She’d said that the time in Arceus’ little pocket dimension was funny, that she couldn’t say how long she’d been in there because time had never passed but that nothing ever changed either- including the weather. No wonder her sleep had gotten worse, that she’d been struggling to stay aware of where she was, because it had been raining non stop for days.
Ingo pulled his phone out of his pocket, texting Emmet we’re going on vacation. To the desert. For an undetermined time.
CASINO BATTLES???? Emmet immediately texted back.
We’ll discuss it on the way. Book the tickets.
ALL ABOARD!!!!!
Then he looked back at Akari, who’d gotten quiet again, and hated himself a little for taking so long to realize something was seriously wrong. Something beyond a flare up of discontent.
“Would you like a hug?” Ingo asked, because it was the only thing he could think to do. He didn’t know how long she would be lost in her mind, lost in her memories, for, but he wanted to provide whatever comfort he could. She nodded, and he quickly stepped forward to engulf her in his arms. “I promise, little one, I won’t leave you behind again. This time I intend to keep it, come hell or high water.”
Unexpected 🩵 (Part 1)
You and Eddie Kingston are about to embark on a life changing journey together…
Tumblr media
“Come here girl, let me look at you!” Eddie said excitedly as he sat his bags down and held his arms open for you. He had been gone for almost a month competing in a NJPW tournament and had just gotten home. “Damn, Facetime didn’t do that pretty face justice. I missed you love!” When you embraced, you noticed some of the bruises he sustained from his matches, and he grimaced when you squeezed tightly from being sore still. Thankfully that was the worst of it! “I missed you so much baby,” you whispered against his neck. You held on to Eddie for dear life, afraid that if you were to let go that he would float away, but he didn’t mind. Both of you were reveling in your embrace and savoring every second of being together again! When you kissed, a fire ignited inside each of you and there was a sense of urgency to make up for lost time. A sweet moment rapidly turned sensual and before you knew it, your moans filled the house as he buried himself deep inside of you. Both of you were so desperate to be skin on skin that you didn’t even make it to the bedroom! The kitchen table was the place of choice. Your nails dug into his back, making him hiss from the sting but he loved it. The table started to creak the harder he thrusted, his movements becoming more frantic as he chased his release. “You feel so good Y/N! So warm and tight. Ah, shit!” Eddie growled. You cried out his name while your body quaked against him as you came. “I love when my name falls from those pretty lips. Music to my ears baby,” he panted against your chest. Moments later Eddie found his release too, emptying himself inside you. Both of you were disheveled, your bodies glistening with sweat. Eddie smirked against your lips and whispered, “It’s good to be home.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's easy to lose track of time when you’re traveling every week with AEW! For the last month and a half, you were right by Eddie’s side on every plane, backstage with him before every match and sometimes even ringside cheering him on. On the morning of this week’s Dynamite, you woke up feeling terrible. You were exhausted, bloated and your boobs were super sore. Your stomach was a little queasy too, but you chalked that up to something you ate last night. “I’ll be fine, I promise.” You reassured a worried Eddie. “I don’t wanna leave you like this though, love. I won’t be back until late and you’re in no condition to go out on your own. What are you going to do if you need something?” he expressed his concerns as he sat down next to you on the bed. “There’s always room service. Most stores offer delivery too if I need something the hotel doesn’t have. You have a big night ahead of you baby, try not to worry about me. Off you go! Give em’ hell!” Eddie continued protesting, but eventually gave in once you agreed to keep him posted on how you were feeling and let him know if you needed him for anything. He kissed you on your forehead and he grabbed his bag before leaving. For most of the day you laid in bed sleeping on and off, hoping it would cure whatever funk you were in. You eventually ordered room service since you hadn’t eaten anything since the night before, but barely touched it when the smell made your stomach churn. You were in the middle of sending Eddie a text when a health notification went off on your phone asking you if your period had started yet. Every month you logged your periods, but you figured you had just forgotten to log your most recent one since you’ve been so busy lately. That was, until you got to thinking about it and realized you’re over a month late. You paced the hotel room trying to piece everything together and cursed under your breath as reality started settling in. There was a good chance that you could be pregnant, but you needed confirmation. You got on your phone and searched for the nearest store that would deliver to your hotel and placed an order for half a dozen pregnancy tests.
Tumblr media
Sure enough, every single one of them came back positive! For a good 20 minutes you stood and stared at the array of tests you had sitting on the bathroom counter in disbelief. You and Eddie had talked about having kids together several times during your relationship, and they were definitely something you both wanted in the future. You both agreed that right now wasn’t the right time for them since Eddie is on the best run of his career and it was nice being able to travel and spend time with only each other. It’s amazing how two pink lines can change everything in an instant! Your emotions were all over the place, going from scared to excited, panicking to being elated and worried to happy. Overall, you were overwhelmed, and you weren’t sure how you were going to tell Eddie. You didn’t feel like he would be mad about the situation, but since neither of you had planned on this happening right now you knew he would probably be riding the same emotional roller coaster as you. You checked your phone to see what time it was and noticed that Dynamite was half over already! Eddie’s match was the main event tonight, so thankfully you didn’t miss it on tv. When Dynamite was over, you knew Eddie would be back at the hotel sooner rather than later. Even though this pregnancy was unexpected, you still wanted to tell Eddie in a special way and telling him in a random city in a hotel room just didn’t feel right. You decided to bag up the pregnancy tests and throw them away and hope that he wouldn’t see them and tell Eddie about it at a better time very soon.
A loved past
a little durgetash thing I wrote. I haven't played BG3 in awhile but I missed them so I hope this is nice.
Word count- 1053
Summary: waiting in an alley with her companions Phemine begins to recall a night long ago.
---
The sun is far above them high and ruling when it all comes crashing back to her. They're waiting in one of the many alleys that Baldur’s Gate has to offer. In the larger scheme of things, it means nothing.
Two buildings filled with unimportant things right behind a large and lavish home, owned by whoever, she did not care to learn. They would learn soon enough anyway, she is reminded of this by the white-haired vampire's soft cursing while he fiddles with a back door lock.
Daytime now sure but, well, she trails off as she thinks it. Confused and zoning out on the walls she wonders why in the world she knows this place. Why she knows what it looks like in the night. It is not a memory from now as her mind recalls smooth stone where cracks now lay, posters where all are torn and unfamiliar.
Theres a song stuck in her head low and nagging and nothing she has ever heard before. A memory of a memory.
It is here when the sun is far up, the cracks are deep and the posters are ripped and unknown that she begins to finally remember something. No longer a memory of a memory as she feels it in her bones as it calls back to her- her memory.
Warm hands meet her now ungloved ones, covers discarded onto the rocky ground. He is always so gentle when he holds any part of her even if only her hand. It is a type of gentle she weeps over not understanding how to give him the same. He says that she does but when her nails almost instinctivly dig into the skin so carefully placed within her own she is reminded of what she is and is not.
“You're thinking too hard”
He says it low like a secret for them and takes her other hand, beginning a slow dance. The large house that sits before the alley is home to an event with music loud enough to pour into the quieter pockets around it. They cannot feel it the way the people inside can but the way Enver moves in tune with her may make her believe they know the rhythm better anyway.
“We have traded places tonight it seems”
The dance within itself is a slow thing and in her movements, she tries to convey an apology, a sorrow of sorts. I don't want to hurt you, but I do. I want to rip you open and crawl inside of you, is that not terrifying? Why do you not cower? Phemine was not made to open like a corpse at the hands of a man. She was meant to be the opener, the mutilator. The bloody offspring made to be unloved by any being with a sense about them. The love in his eyes went against any god she could have believed in by the start of this night.
“Share your mind with me”
His own moves go against her own and yet they still dance like the courtly and highly appraised people they were so far from. His moves said the words he would say out loud while her own were a secret, but one she was willing to share in a portion. He would know the rest, he always did.
“You are so… kind with me.” you touch me as if I am the finest silk you fear to ruin, you touch me even when I am covered in blood like I am the white bird they say is pure. You know it, you know I'm not pure I am its antithesis in all entirety and you still touch me like I am the bare bones of the fragile sick animals you fed on the streets when we were kids.
“I am sad to not be the same to you”
“You are, just in your own way”
“Is it not painful? Exhausting? Disappointing?”
“It is painful to cut myself on the metal I work with, exhausting to stay up writing letters to nobles I hate, and disappointing that we cannot just take the world together at the drop of a hat. But being with you relieves these aches, it does not make them.”
She makes a noise of disagreement and turns her face from his but the smile that graces her features forces its way through her facade.
“That was disgusting”
They both laugh and it's the first sound other than the music that Phemine is sure travels through the space. Honeyed and just as rhythmic to her.
“You asked”
Silence falls over as they shift attention back to their dance. Her apology turns into her in a truer form. Her movements are rigid in some ways and the way she moves leaves the smallest white scratch lines over the palm of his hand. She does not see it in his face or hear it in his words but the way his body responds to her own is an answer. He is utterly infatuated with her in the form given by the brutal father that she came from. A monster in purest and he would rather let the beast sink its claws in his skin than see her wane in worry for his safety. He is safe with her. She could kill him and he would never fear it, fear her. For dying by her hand is the gentlest way he could go.
“I got it!”
The sun is beaming down into the old alley and she is forced to stand and believe the love she has found in these people could be equal to the storybook love she finds pieced in her memories. Phemine shakes her head and sighs, kicking herself off the wall.
“It's about time”
“Well, why don't you try to pick the lock next time?”
She just rolls her eyes and follows the rest of the group into the room. The recollection is already beginning to fade, burnt at the edges by a time so long ago now. Enver had told her himself who she was, the past they shared. It came with cautious disbelief because any man could spin a story.
But not just any man could look at her the way Enver could.
She would give anything to forget again.
Houses Dimileth sickfic where Byleth falls sick and the only person around to take care of her is FeralMitri
Ooh I kinda sorta wrote a little bit of this! (I don't feel like editing to make sense independently, so in this fic she doesn't remember him when she comes back.)
"Oh, dear," Mercedes said when she saw Byleth's limp form in his arms. She cast a healing spell, and he breathed a sigh of relief when the blood stopped pouring from her wound. "Hm, the rest seems to be magical exhaustion. Can you carry her to the infirmary, Dimitri? I'll be there as soon as I make sure there are no life-threatening injuries to tend to here." Alone in the infirmary, he carefully placed Byleth on a bed and fidgeted. He decided he should put a blanket over her. Whenever he was ill, his parents or nanny always laid him in bed under the covers, so it was probably what you were supposed to do. He rummaged in the cupboards for a blanket. When he went to spread it over her, though, he realized her boots were still on. Taking off someone's boots wasn't intimate, right? No one would want to sleep like that. Gingerly, he sat next to her in the bed and slid her boots off, all too aware that it required him to touch her leg. His gaze roamed up her body, for once not in a lascivious way, but appraisingly. There wasn't any active bleeding, but she was covered in dried blood and grime. Glancing at the blanket again, he sighed. It wouldn't do to put her to bed filthy, either. She's a tool, he reminded himself, a weapon. You have to maintain your weapons. That's all it is. He filled a basin with water, removed her dirty cloak, and wiped down her exposed skin, taking extra care near her healing wound. He brushed out her matted hair. Finally, she was in a state to tuck in so he could be rid of this distraction. Although... He probably shouldn't leave her alone. Pathetic, scoffed Glenn, still a lovesick puppy. For a woman who doesn't even remember you. The battle with Randolph was over, but a new battle was coming to a head. The Dimitri that had loved Byleth was a growing threat to the Dimitri that was committed to the dead. He had listened to the voices when he saw the professor earlier. It was clear something bad had happened, but he didn't offer his help to her. The result was Byleth being injured and unconscious, all to save him. She could have died, and what would that accomplish? Her death would be on his hands just as surely as if he'd swung the axe. It was his punishment to bear, not hers. Then there was the creeping doubt about his ghosts-- a seed that Byleth had planted five years ago that was now coming into bloom. When he had first confided in her about the voices he heard, she had told him of instances of similar afflictions among her father's mercenaries, and gently argued against the critical comments of the ghosts. Her logical, blunt way of speaking was convincing, and he had just started to reconsider his priorities when his stepsister revealed herself. When he lost Byleth, though, any hope of a life for himself tumbled over the cliff with her. Even since they'd reunited, her sensible suggestions had influenced him. She told him that he'd need to eat and train to reach Enbarr, while his ghosts only ever suggested more bloodshed. In five years, he'd achieved nothing but the barest definition of survival, while less than a month after reuniting with Byleth, he had an army and a true chance at striking back. Could he even achieve his revenge listening to his father and Glenn? More likely, he'd challenge a hoard of enemies and die a pointless death long before reaching the emperor. Is that what happened today before Byleth changed fate? Is that perhaps what the ghosts truly wanted? What he truly wanted? No, he wouldn't leave her alone, no matter how it displeased the ghosts. Independent of his confusing feelings, she had proven herself useful and loyal. He dragged a chair next to her bedside and settled in for a long wait.
-----------
"Di-- mitri?" He had sat on the floor with his head laying on the bed, trying to get a bit of rest while still being able to hear her breathing. "I'm here," he said softly, too softly for a monster like him. He was regretting his decision to stay with her. "You're--" she hacked and coughed on her words, so he picked up the glass of water on the table and tipped it into her mouth. Playing house again, I see, sneered his father. She's a tool. He needs her, only as a weapon. "You're okay?" she asked.
From My Patreon: My Favorite Bits Of Fiction I Wrote As  Emotional Responses to Songs
0:00-0:27: Rushed silhouettes, floating buildings, she was heaving and panting through the streets, the screeches and profanities watery, damp against her head, intent on running. She had established a rhythm she could lock herself in and yet always about to miss a beat, slow down and collapse. The backstory was both arid and sinister. Still, in her mind, she remembered the blood soiled bed like muted faces as silent witnesses, fingers sticky with blackberry jam, her body burrowed into her. Bits and pieces doused with that summoning song, the continuous soundtrack of something she couldn't hold together yet.
I tightened against the slipperiness of the wheel, waiting for May to say something, at long last. It wasn't their lithe body, slumped against the back seat, the unremarkable outfit, a mundane stud uniform, but the hushed collection of glares, their  knuckles tense inside their lap. We weren't quite sure of each other, as long as we'd worked out our siblinghood together, the slurry of kisses, the gut bursting laughter, the unceremonious nonchalance. And still, a crevice. And maybe we left each other, in some ways. The passenger side unceasingly wounded; eyes shrunk and blinking, bleached with anguish, her pleats an act of self admonishment. I could sense the belt slash into her chest and her head lolling from side to side. I took her to sever her trailing rope of confessions. They trumpled on her for so long and with such horror that she was here and there, a mind airless in poisonous water. I sped up, because there was no one, and nowhere, and I wanted her through the window, eyes wide open, even.
I had hovered above the sinister mapping of the hospital, looking for a reward yet to be named, stung with the viscous trickle of hand sanitizer, and how did I end up here, and why did I remain. I could craft the series of flashing images; the hard metal chair, the glassy borders, and the cop, or the detective, or whatever, reaching down my throat for the scene of the crime. The hospital had been closed for a while. I wanted to remain there forever. I wanted to let sickness carry me even as I was holding sickness at arm's length.
3:48-3:49: I didn’t ponder on violence often; I dutifully ripped, smashed, folded, clawed, worked away at thick flesh, waiting for the blood to spill, for a crease through the face or bruised arms. Every day, I labored on the push and pull of foreign bodies, of interlaced voices, my hands woven through their armpits, their eyes blinking, the mutilated geometry of their noses. And yet, ultimately, always this green fog, a film of bitterness in the mouth. He had barely glimpsed at me the first time, muttered “There”. I needed to leave; too much was happening, the unsettling sway of fractured hips, too much dried blood, something liquid and acrid coming up my throat. I had done the last of it.
He wasn’t there. She wasn’t there either, crouched on the still damp couch, her eyes enormous and sharp. The screen before her, with its glut of movement and sound, people sizzling everywhere, and her not following the thread, having lost the story halfway through the needle rattling her heart. She dashed out; she wanted to know midnight. She wasn’t dressed for any occasion; tattered sweatpants, a large cotton shirt. She trailed her hand across the bar, her nonchalant walk, hoping the moment would get caught in an endless loop.
The bacon and the plate beneath, looking at it, she was exhausted. She ignored what to make of all of this. She had been starved, and suddenly not. Two hours of damp showering, not even a trickle, she yearned for the water bandaging her skin. What was she to do with that bacon, growing cold, the bars of greasy meat, dripping on all that white ? It was sinister, not to know what to do about food. Every morning, she dropped a pack of instant popcorn in the microwave with weary indifference, poured the syrup. Her life seemed, to her, regulated by the consistent reality of food. Or aimless sex. Everyday, there was the bed, reluctantly open, her wet thighs, her eyes, enormous, her ordinary orgasms.
