Liz/Jason
Yeah. I don’t ship it. I’m not however just going to bash on this ship.
Here’s the thing, I’ve never seem Liason scenes from their early days, in the 90s/early 00s and according to @fictionxlover they were really sweet. While scrolling for a decent gif, I did see a early one which I’d admit is cute, even if Liz’s hair wasn’t.
However, when I was first introduced to Liason. It was 2006 and the 2006-2007 storyline. So you can understand why I don’t ship them or struggle to like them. Firstly, I don’t feel the chemistry like I do with Stelly’s JaSam. But second of all with that mess of a storyline. I just hate how they rewrote Sam and Lucky and ruined LnL2 and JaSam to accommodate for Liason. Then of course in 2007, when Sam and Lucky both had legitmate reasons for breaking up/splitting with their other half. They then had to villainise them in order to validate and accept Liason even though these two were having an emotional affair beforehand.
This mess of a storyline really made it hard for me to like. I generally can’t ship ships that have to make characters OOC in order to prop up the ship or to make a ship work.
It also doesn’t help that various writers don’t know what kind of character they want Liz to be, half the time it’s the ‘maneater’ Liz, does bad shit, then the other half it’s the Angelic Liz and all her bad actions are excuse with little punishment or validated.
Now here is the objective part:
Clearly, Liz and Jason have a bond, they are forever bonded through Jake. However, to be it’s the kind of bond he has with Robin and Courtney. Not an endgame bond. A big issue with Liason I think is that Liz doesn’t technically accept or want Jason for who he is. She likes the image of this bad boy with a tough exterior who is soft on the inside and will do anything to protect those he cares about and saves the day. But ultimately she wanted to change him, she wanted him to settle down, not be a mob enforcer and settle down with the white picket fence. Liz always seems to want excitement and interesting in the now, but long-term wants to tame him. It’s odd because I feel like the reason she cheats is because Lucky was too dull and dependable which is why she goes for complex, exciting men but in Jason’s case, she wants him to settle down and not be a mob enforcer still.
I think the Jason Liz wants is the Jason that Billy turned out to be. He has the skills and past of Jason Morgan, the mob enforcer but he became a strong family man and quit. He stopped being ride-or-die. So I wouldn’t mind Driz happening in the future because I do feel like that is the kind of guy she wants. However, this could change once we know who Drew is and his personality. They might not work anymore. Friz, however is a no-no.
So overall, I don’t ship it. I think the writers made a mess of any potential with the 2006-2008 mess. Then the Jake Doe stuff - even though it turned out to be Drew, it’s still a mess. I hate how with Steve! Jason that he continually looks at her with rose-tinted glasses, like when Liz kept the fact that Danny was alive. While I personally feel that Jason makes her a bit guy crazy because of that. I prefer Liz when she’s not after Jason because of that.
Put a pairing in my ask and I’ll tell you if I ship it or not
