Cool summer breeze rustled thin curtains while dogs bark in the distance. Elliott sat at the mahogany desk in the corner of his childhood room, his mind distant again. If it weren’t for his parents insisting they’d missed him, he would’ve stayed on Hogwarts grounds for the summer holidays. Then again, perhaps it would’ve been lonely without Sebastian and Ominis, both admitting they were required to return home. Elliott can only imagine how uncomfortable it must be for the two of them to go ‘home’. Doesn’t seem like much of a home if they didn’t feel welcomed.

Knock knock knock.

“Come in.”

“Darling, are you hungry?” Naoko Penndragon greeted her son with her ever loving smile, exuding warmth from every fibre. She paused seeing her son’s solemn face. “What’s the matter?”

Elliott shook his head. “Nothing - ‘m just thinking.”

Naoko stepped inside and closed the door behind her gently, sitting on the edge of emerald covered bed. “What’re you thinking about? Wanna talk about it?”

“Just my friends,” Elliott shrugged. He joined his mother on the dark Oakwood bed, sitting beside her. “They don’t seem to have very good home lives and I worry about them. Just wanted to know they’re okay.”

Naoko tutted pitifully to herself, reaching out to caress his thick trusses lovingly. She held him close to her chest. Even if he was a fully fledged wizard, he would always be her little puffskein. “My darling boy, you always do worry yourself sick for your friends.”

Elliott knew how lucky he was to have parents who truly cared and nurtured him - especially moments like these, he was grateful. He relaxed into his mother’s warm embrace and felt a brief comfort.

“Mum, do you think I can write to invite them here for a while? I’ll ask dad myself if you say yes.”

“For a few days, certainly,” Naoko smiled, pulling back. “We barely get to spend time with you as it is, I hope you understand.”

Elliott nodded. “‘Course. Thank you.” He kissed his mother’s cheek as a smile slipped onto his face. “

Before she could say another word, Elliott had already bolted for the door. He practically jumped down the stairs, yelling for his father.

“Don’t hurt yourself!” He heard his mother called behind him.

“Okay, sorry Mum!”

He almost ran into his father who was on his way inside, no doubt from his trip to the vivarium. Fenrys raised his brows at the state of his son.

“Whoa, whoa, slow down! Why are you running in the house?” Fenrys gently grasped Elliott’s shoulders to steady him.

“Sorry dad, I spoke to mum - and she said I could ask you - if my friends Sebastian and Ominis could come visit for a few days!” He rushed the words out between heavy breaths, winded from running.

Fenrys chuckled. “Say all that again but slower.”

“Please can Sebastian and Ominis come visit for a few days? I’ll look after them - we won’t be any trouble, promise.”

“Of course they can,” Mr Penndragon replied. He ruffled Elliott’s messy hair. “Send an owl to their parents and ask permission, okay?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good lad. Now don’t run inside the house-“

“-yes Dad!”

Elliott awkwardly speed-walked his way to the family owlery, giddy.

🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often?

Julian listens to music all the time. Well, okay, that's likely hyperbole but he'll often have music playing in the background if he's doing something else and really likes being surrounded by it whenever it's practical. He just really enjoys setting the vibe with music, and also thinks it's crucial for him to listen to a wide range of genres and artists to inspire him as a musician. He considers it research, in a way and gets a lot of inspiration for his songs and new sounds to explore with fables from listening to other bands and singer-songwriters. There are very few genres he won't explore and doesn't enjoy, but if he's just listening for pleasure he tends to gravitate towards indie folk and indie rock, alternative, emo, singer-songwriter, indie pop, twee, chamber pop and avant garde. Think some Matador Records (both current and historical - he loves Belle & Sebastian, Cat Power, boygenius, Shearwater, Sonic Youth, Boards of Canada, Modest Mouse) with a twist of Sufjan Stevens/Elliott Smith/Seabear confessional and that'll give you a good starting point for what he tends to like. I'm really hoping to upload a Spotify playlist pretty soon of what I imagine a lot of his all-time favorite songs are, but it might take me a little bit because it needs to be perfect for my boy.

Niko's also a fan of having music playing whenever he can. His tastes in music tend to run a lot heavier and darker than Julian's in general. He's more into post-punk, art rock, alt rock, funk, electronica, goth rock, industrial metal, darkwave, synthpop, glam rock, that kind of thing. He loves The Cure, Soft Cell, Joy Division, The Talking Heads, Sisters of Mercy, The Birthday Massacre, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Velvet Underground, David Bowie, Bauhaus, PJ Harvey and Queen, to name a few. He also loves Hozier, go figure.

Alexei likes anything pop or dance pop. Really, if it's got a good beat, he's into it. He doesn't listen to music all the time (partly because he can't) but it's always on in the car or when he's getting ready for work to pump himself up. He tends to especially love female artists most - he really loves Carly Rae Jepsen, Dua Lipa, old Madonna, The Go-Go's, Kesha, La Roux, Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Ladytron, Lizzo, Taylor Swift, Kylie Minogue, The Donna's, Olivia Rodrigo, Adele, Ladyhawke, Billie Eilish... but he's pretty open to new genres and artists.

Elijah tends to have music going in the background most of the time, but what it is depends on what he's doing. He listens to a wide variety of genres and will try pretty much anything. When he's streaming, in scrims or running strats with his team, he's probably listening to some lo-fi hip hop/chillhop kind of thing because the lack of lyrics works better for him and it doesn't distract him from whatever game or match he's focusing on. Other than that he tends to gravitate towards electronica, techno, house, EMD, electronic pop, synthpop, triphop, dance-punk and new wave.

Why I Wouldn’t Romance the Stardew Bachelors

Sam--Way too young for me unless I was specifically making a Younger Me OC, which I wasn’t.  Young and acts young.  Dropped an egg on the floor and let me take the rap with his mom.  Regularly drinks Joja Colas I fish out of the ocean (he doesn’t know that, but I do).

Sebastian--Too young for me.  Is a disaffected edgyboi who complains about his family and friends despite them being pretty great.  Smokes.  Really wants to leave Pelican Town and so I’d feel terrible stopping him.

Alex--Too young for me.  Asked me if I owned a bikini when we barely knew each other, and brushed me off a lot.   Almost certainly would disapprove of me making and drinking alcohol (understandably, but still, it’s a point against because I wouldn’t want to make him uncomfortable).   Will not let me pet Dusty in canon, so I have to imagine it myself like a pleb.

Elliott--Lives in a shack on the beach and complains about having to clean it. It was your choice to live there, friend!  Actually despite making this choice he complains about it a lot.  Meanwhile I’m elbows deep in fertilizer and cow udders every day.   (PS How is he keeping a piano in tune surrounded by sea air?  Elliott are you making blood sacrifices to accomplish this?)

Harvey--I could not in good conscience date my bff’s dad.*  Also we might be a little TOO much alike, and would fight over who gets the last pickle.  Oh and I know the 10-heart scene in canon is sweet but if I was put in a hot air balloon I’d be sitting down in it trying not to scream, so I would ruin the moment.

Shane--Was mean to me at first.  Buddy, please buy a new hoodie and eat something that isn’t pizza and pepper poppers.  Will not talk to me at work even though we are dating.  Absolute disaster man.

Why I Love the Stardew Bachelors

Sam--Adorable.  Loves his family.   10/10 big brother.  Is a prankster and that’s fun.  A musician, and practices regularly.  Has a job but also hobbies.  Took my music suggestion to heart and thanked me for it.  Actually acts happy to see me and was one of the friendliest people to me from the start.  Honestly I think he is a very good kid and I want to be his non-creepy grownup friend and support his band and skateboarding.

Sebastian--Purple.  Smart and knows how to do a computer, so he could help me with the technology if I needed it.  Loves wildlife such as frogs.  Shared his umbrella.  Once you get him talking I imagine he has all kinds of opinions and deep thoughts about interesting topics.  I wanna be in his D&D squad.

Alex--Gets friendlier, and reveals that he wants to improve himself and broaden his horizons beyond just sports.  Athletic and dedicated to his personal goals in that realm.  Loves and takes care of his grandparents (who are my best friends).  Loves his dog.  I would like him to come work on my farm and lift things for me sometimes, and I will read cool books out loud to him.

Elliott--Writer and pianist!!  I do enjoy the Aesthetique and he keeps himself clean even if he doesn’t clean his home.  Can make everyday moments dramatic and fun.  Is gracious when I hand him clams I find on the ground right outside his house.   Dedicated his book to me just because I suggested what genre to write.  I want to go to a Renaissance Faire with this man.

Harvey--We really are very alike so we’d get along.  Has an unusual niche hobby I know nothing about.  Has a professional job and I respect that.  Cares about the health of his neighbors, and refers out when he knows he doesn’t have the expert knowledge to help someone.  Green!  Respects the power of the sun and will always remind about the sunscreen.  Goes to milf practice.  Is shy and awkward and I want us to infodump at each other about our interests.  

Shane--Was mean to me at first (and that’s my Type for fictional men).  Family oriented and tries his best for Jas.  Invented a new breed of chicken.  We both have Brain Bullshit.  ‘Pizza festival at the saloon’ yes please and also please steal me more pizza and stuff it in my mailbox like a dork.  We both hate working for Joja.  The snark.  Video games.  Spicy food and alcohol as a (now) Sometimes Food.  Took me to a gridball game to share one of his interests with me (sports game tickets can be expensive, too).  In general I vibe with this guy and that’s why I’m going to marry him and also destroy the Joja Mart to liberate his ass from hell.  Absolute disaster man (affectionate).

Allright. Elliott thread that nobody asked for. Part 4

Bevore we start: This happened yesterday.

And I basically turned into that iCarly gif, where she’s on the Computer, sippin’ her drink and goes: interesting.

Because look who we have here. Our future husband acting all self-aware? Right after I assumed in my last post that he never talks about the possibility of his failure...

To safe at least some of my ‘credibility’, he followed this up with something along the lines of:

“No, no...I am not fishing for compliments. Which does not mean I don't appreciate them ;) “.

Sure. Whatever.

In comparison to that:

A few in-game days previously, I had a cut-scene with Leah, where the player can suggest that she should organise an art show. And there, Leah openly communicated her fears of ppl not liking her art. I was surprised about how open she was, given that it was probably her 2nd heart event or something (?). It's interesting, how Leah (who I perceived to be more reserved than Elliott), was so willing to let us know about her insecurities. Meanwhile, Elliot seems to brush these thoughts aside rather quickly and returns to his nonchalant, graceful self.

I always thought that from the two of them, it might be Elliott who is more vocal about his emotions. But now, Elliott doesn't seem to wear his heart on his sleeves as much as I thought he would. Which changed the way I think about him quite a bit. Maybe he is more likely to hide behind platitudes and a self-assuring smile, after all.

And what can we take from this, when we would want to write, let’s say a scene with Leah/Elliott friendship dynamic?

Anyways, before I was so disgracefully exposed, I was roasting Elliott’s life choices. To which I now gladly return to.

You see, the "issue" I see with Elliott is, that he plays into a trope:

The brooding hermitic author, who turned his back onto society in favour of finding inspiration in nature.

While this might sound thrilling and "romantic", we know that Elliott is not the best candidate to conform to this lifestyle. Just compare, how we as the player, manage to form quite strong relationships with everyone in Pelikan Town just by talking to them regularly.

We see Elliott outside the beach-area quite often. But aside from Leah, he does not seem to interact with anyone much. I don't know if there are statements about Elliott made by other characters, to have some inkling on how they feel about him. But its quite remarkable, how all other friendships outside to his connection with Leah, are not explicitly known as canon (?).

After a whole year living in this town, previous to our arrival, I would suggest, that Elliott might still be very much an outsider. He even remarks how, with our arrival, it will be nice, to no longer be "the new guy" in town.

But the problem with that might have been Elliott's reservedness, to begin with. Polite, but yet, maybe, quite impersonal. All pleasantries and platitudes as mentioned above. It all plays into Elliott's refusal to experience the comforts of a normal lifestyle in favour of pursuing his art.

And I love how Elliott just brushes that aside as if its nothing. I'd really love to know: what would have been his plan b, if his debut failed?

Worst case cenario: What would he'd done, if he ended up stranded in Pelikan Town, penniless and unsuccessful?

Where would he go? Is there a place he can return to? A previous home, previous friends?

I don't think so.

But, dedicated, impuslive, sweet, dumb Elliott just thought to himself:

“I can do that. How bad can it be???, it will be fi~ne.It will be marvellous!

Authentic, truly!

It will be superb pictouresque and that is all I need to write my novel....”

And then we also have interactions of the likes of:

“People have scaped a living off the sea for thousands of years....

I just go to the grocery store.”

A different thought I had on Elliott kind of plays into what I already said previously. But I will adress it as its own topic.

The downside of Elliott’s ego.

As much as we explored the rather whacky / chaotic elements of his character and how he does stupid shit for prestige itself, it is interesting to see what happens when the player challenges his self-dramatisation.

I keep re-thinking if and to what degree Elliott can laugh about himself.

He is not one for self-deprecating humour, I think.

I can imagine that to be more Shane’s thing.

We see different scenarios, in which Elliott reacts differently to things not going his way. One of the positives is the whole “A tiny crab made a home inside his coat pocket”- story. I have seen two interpretations of this scene. And both are dependent on the tone, in which you read his dialogue. One group thinks he is just complaining yet again.

On the other hand, you could read it more like:

“My, look what we have here. Can you believe that [y/name]?!“.

I think that Elliott does not appear to be angry or annoyed at all in that scenario, too. He could have vented to the player, how he needs a new coat, now.  But he simply leaves it at that. And you know what?

But, there are other times, where Elliott reacts negatively to the player not doing what he wants you to do. Meaning:  your reaction to him or your behaviour in a specific situation. Let's look at his 2nd (?) heart event at the Stardrop Saloon. He comes up to the bar, finds himself in the mood for company, and orders wine for you and ale for himself. 

New Headcanon:

That little crab still lives there! It will probably live there long after you two get married. And he will feed it scraps from the dinner table even though you ask him not to.

Whatever...Sounds Cute. 

My first reaction to that was: “aw, wHaT a GeNtLemAn!!!”. My second reaction was my inner feminist having a temper tantrum because: “how dare a man, to assume what I want to drink!” 

New Headcanon on Elliott and gender roles, anyone? Or is it given, that with him being a good old fashioned lover boy, his expectation on any relationship dynamic might be more traditional?

As much as I find Elliott charming and all, this could be a great red flag and, again, beautiful material for character-conflict. Maybe Elliott needs to learn to not take everything at face value. Maybe he needs to learn, how to take a joke. Especially those made at his expense.

However, when the question arises, what the two of you should drink on, he will not laugh if you say “your doom”.

This is not something he sees as sarcasm or as a joke. In fact, you lose 50 friendship points! Like holy shit. That in itself is not much, but its a game-penalty. He is actively reacting negatively toward you. This is one of the few times, where your decision actively has an impact on the friendship-metre. Of course, that statement could be delivered in a non-joking matter. Which then justifies his reaction.... sure.

But even the fact that Elliott chooses, to not downplay or gloss-over your comment, leaves me with the following interpretation:

He hoped for a charming, flirtatious interaction. All you had to do, was to play along. But you ruined it.

Just imagine a situation with a little bit of miss-communication and a version of Elliott that is a little too proud for his own good and *chef's kiss* we have drama.

Me to Elliott and Farmer-OC: fight! fight! fight! fight! :D

Also: depending on how it's written, that could be one of Elliott's major character flaws. The one that is not cute at all!

I wanted to take some jabs at Elliott's likes and dislikes. But as it turned out: Yes, you can turn Duck feathers into quills. I had this funny headcanon that Elliott wanted to be extra special by choosing duck feathers as his preferred writing instrument. And I was all like: “use a pen!!”.

But then I found out about the Unobtainable Weapons-List and Elliott’s pen is one of them. Okay, whatever. 

And then I asked google how to make quills. And while duck feathers are not the preferred or most popular option, there is also nothing that would speak against it, as long as the feather’s shaft is durable enough. So that theory has flown out of the window pretty quickly as well.

The only thing that comes to my mind instead is, how Elliott would still need a digital manuscript for publishing. But me screaming: “Where is your Laptop Elliott??? You need a computer! Its the 21 century!!!” is not half that funny anymore.

I guess I’ll end it here.

3, 5, 11, and 21 for Shayne and Charlie ! ~ <3

I swear, I thought I’d posted this last night before I fell asleep, but it turns out I’d left the last question blank and saved it to my drafts. Oops.

Ask Game

3. What does your oc’s voice sound like? (Or, if you have one, what’s their voiceclaim?) Can they sing, whistle, or roll their rs? Do they have any speech impediments or notable dialects/accents?

This is always a hard question for me because I find it hard to imagine voices/accent in general, but there are a few I’ve taken note of in case something like this ever came up lol

Charlie: I've always thought Otis from S.ex Education would be a pretty okay voice claim for Charlie. Charlie can whistle very badly, and he can hold a note to a certain degree, but nobody would ever class him as a good singer.

Shayne: Eddie from Strang.er T.hings has a similar blend of softness and depth to how I imagine Shayne’s voice. I’m currently watching Volt.ron and I’d probably happily steal Keith’s voice actor for Shayne.

As for accents though - do not ask me about accents!! I don't know where most of my OCs are from; it's a made-up world consisting of a mashup of all the places I know lol the only accents I have pinned down are Nancy’s southern accent and Ryan’s Northern Irish accent.

5. What kind of clothes is your oc most comfortable wearing?

Charlie is an avid believer that you can’t go wrong with the straight leg jeans and hoodie/sweatshirt combo. He wishes he could get into more tailored clothes, but he's tried other styles and doesn't like how they feel/look on him. He loves primary colours, so most of his jeans are blue or navy, and his hoodies tend to be yellow or red; though he does own some multicoloured ones too.

For Shayne, it depends on where we are on the timeline. Early on, you won't catch him outside of dark, relaxed fit jeans, baggy t-shirts, and his leather jacket. Down the line, he starts wearing more fitted clothing and isn't as concerned with hiding himself away under layers, working his way up to skinny jeans and leggings, and eventually crop tops too.

I suppose the shorter answer for either of them would be that Charlie is at his most comfortable in flannel pyjamas, and Shayne's most comfortable in just boxer shorts and one of Charlie's hoodies (which are always oversized on him).

11. Does your oc have any interests/hobbies that they hide from everyone? Why do they hide these interests?

Charlie is secretly very invested in the British TV soaps like Corrie and Emmerdale, which he feels makes him too much of a normie. After he starts living alone, he does occasionally call his mum so they can geek out about the major storylines.

Shayne has dabbled a little bit in meditation, which he's terrified people will think is wildly out of character for him. He's come close to revealing it to Charlie but Charlie is always either too drunk or too panicky to really question it.

21. What’s a fact you haven’t shared about this oc?

Charlie: He has broken the law a total of one (1) time. It was stealing beer.

Shayne: During his year and a half-ish with the Aldridges, he still has the witchcraft-infused blade that Elliott gave him during the Ouija board arc. Elliott hasn’t asked for it back because he knows Shayne is scared that the Devines will come for him.
