I can't believe Cars' birthday was yesterday and I didn't do anything but lay awake pondering the significance of body modification in Cars and Planes

cause in Cars it came across to me that modding is just not a thing for the general population- but Dusty is able to take off or switch parts for various purposes

And then there's also Mater-

Like, what's the line between 'equipping gear' and 'replacing parts'? Are there different limitations between vehicle types? Do engineer-surgeons get away with modding planes easier?

And then the fact that essential parts can get discontinued-
