In love with The True Halfling and I must know more about her
Oooookay, let me see if I can get everything together. I can't find where I wrote down my notes or maybe I didn't write anything down at all, but let me gather together what I can scrape out from my brain. Disclaimer though, I haven't seen the movies yet, which is a crime, so I can't really go into detail on movie events. I haven't read the books either. But I have second-hand and wiki knowledge profound enough to come up with a concept that I will later go insane over once I do watch the movies :)
First of all, the True Halfling is so old that she's part Fallohide. She's from the time when the Hobbit breeds were still clearly separate things. She also has a significant amount of Teleri blood on her elven side which may or may not be the reason for her musical magic. Due to both being very old and getting stories told about her singing and instrument-playing and generally her very unique ability to fairly directly use magic, she becomes a bit of a legend. Unfortunately, she gets tired of being immortal. Yes, she can learn all of the songs in the world, learn all about the different races and cultures, witness it changing, all of that beautiful stuff that she wanted when she chose to become immortal, but she's tired of the fighting, tired of people coming to her and asking her to perform miracles. Additionally, as the years go on, her magic becomes weaker for some reason that she cannot figure out.
But then she travels to the Lonely Mountain one day, just when it is attacked by Smaug. And the True Halfling offers to sacrifice herself to protect the halls of the city, completing a ritual that lodges the Arkenstone into her body to channel her magic and puts her into a deep sleep that she will only awaken from once the dwarves return. I imagine she did something similar for the Glittering Caves before? Generally, I'm convinced that she's old but also not really because she spends multiple centuries just. Sleeping.
Either way, once Thorin and his company return, the True Halfling wakes up and unmerges with the Arkenstone but she's drowsy/weakened from the centuries of sleep (she says, but it's actually not true) and so she doesn't fight in the ensuing battle. Also, merging with the Arkenstone has left lasting cracks/scars on her body, so she is kind of very depressed about "losing her eternal beauty". After this, she disappears. She settles down in a small village as a storyteller and bard and stays laying low...
... until one Gandalf appears at her doors and asks her to help destroy the One Ring. She refuses, saying that she is done with fighting. But, the hobbit that she is, she can't let herself have Gandalf and the Fellowship leave without gaining anything. So, she invites them for a meal. And that was her big mistake because she finds herself fascinated with this mixed bag of a Fellowship, and becoming fast friends with both Legolas and Gimli, who are fascinated by her for her elven heritage and knowledge of songs and poetry and her history with Durin's Folk (especially the legend of her guarding the Lonely Mountain) respectively. Also, the hobbits love her. She knows a lot of songs, she makes amazing food, her house is a literal museum of art and music and different cultures... So, she lets herself be talked into the Fellowship. Adventures ensue. Also maybe a poly relationship with Legolas and Gimli??? I'll have to check the movies for fitting vibes.
So yeah, she doesn't have a good name yet, but it's gotta be magical, you know?
Either way, that's it. That's all that my brain could gather. Hope you like it :)

𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐈𝐗𝐄𝐃 𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐄
A good chunk of my Tolkien muses are a mix of movie/book lore. While I do my best to research everything I can for these guys, some muses were better to mix lore together. More information will be under the 'keep reading' cut.
Thorin II Oakenshield
He is not a likable character in the book and is sort of a boring sort. In the movies he has more depth, more complexity that makes a character interesting. Rather than making him a self-absorbed and full of himself individual, I've gone with making him more complex to give him room to work with. Sure, it sort of comes out a bit when interacting with certain muses, but that part of him is not the overall of the character - if that makes sense?
Kili
When reading the book, Fili and Kili are introduced in the beginning. However, there isn't a lot of detail or depth to go off of after that so with this one; he's a bit more movie canon with heavy influence of headcanons and fanon. A lot of his background has been created in roleplay with other friends, thrown together with theories and such.
Aragorn
A mix of movie/book canon. There's just something about the mix of uncertainty to the confidence we see grow within him. He's a skilled fighter and while in his movie portrayal he doesn't feel fit to be king, I'm going with the fact that he has more confidence in himself as in the book. He knows what he wants and will get to it in any means he needs to.
Legolas
This one will be more of his book portrayal than movie though not entirely excluding movie portrayal. There are certain moments where one has to be serious, and those will be the moments I use his seriousness on. In the book; he's known to be a little more loose - lets mysterious and stoic and more of the whimsical, silly self. I'm still doing my research on this so patience is appreciated.
Bilbo Baggins
This one has a bit of a mix adding to the fact that he's got a bit of a backbone. At first when we meet him in The Hobbit, he is very staunch in sticking to routine life in Bag End. Gandalf interrupts the comfortability which doesn't sit well with him. Over time; Bilbo has come to gain friendships along the way which only further increase his confidence, and stands firm in that he isn't going to back down. Bilbo's seen a lot in his lifetime and knows things that shouldn't even be known.

Okay, so I have to ask because I love your OFMD meta and I just finished reading The Hobbit for the first time... I don't get Bilbo/Thorin! I just don't feel a connection like that between them. I'm not opposed to it whatsoever and I really want to see it, so I'm inquiring here to let you talk about it, if you want! Was it more a movie thing?
Hey Anon, I certainly don't blame you for not finding Bilbo/Thorin content in The Hobbit book. Going into an Unexpected Journey, I genuinely expected Bilbo/Balin to be the main pairing (if there even was one, which I doubted) based on their book interactions.
Bilbo/Thorin is almost entirely in the films. It is a result of some major changes to Thorin's character (from an old treasure hunter looking for his last big score to a noble exiled prince in his late prime looking to restore a homeland for his people) and some minor ones to Bilbo's character (that he chooses to go on the adventure, rather than being hustled out the door by Gandalf). It caught pretty much everyone who went to see it by surprise. Even then, I'd say I didn't get the fanfic-y "Oh." of falling in love with the ship until the last couple of scenes of AUJ. Then it all came together for me.
If you're looking to ship Bagginshield and understand why I wrote tons of meta and fic for it, you'll (unfortunately, in the case of some rather subpar film elements mixed with stellar individual performances) have to watch the films :)

I'm currently rewatching The Hobbit movie trilogy and honestly I do love the movies despite how they deviate from the book. Thorin is one of my fav characters ever and Richard did amazing. Curious about your favs and thoughts n feelings on the movies
Hiya! Okay. Well, I just finished the Battle of Five Armies just a few hours ago, so let's see.
The first movie, I liked well enough. They changed some things but overall kept the feel of the story, and though The Hobbit is a short book, doing a page for page adaptation just...would not work, it would be a mess. So I understand. All in all I found it enjoyable, with that warm fantasy sweetness well mixed in.
I really don't like the addition of Azog was necessary, at all. And I do wish they'd given Radagast a little bit more respect, at the least not put that bird mess in his hair and down his clothes. And while the troll scene was pretty good, hearing the dwarves scream about how very many parasites they had was a little jarring, and poor Bilbo, used as a tissue!
(Also, Fili and Kili are the Bill and Ted of the dwarves).
I would watch the first movie again, and I'll probably end up buying it.
The second movie...I did not enjoy.
My biggest issues were with Legolas and Tariual and Kili and Thranduial. Legolas shouldn't even be there, and his personality was very different. He didn't really seem like Legolas. Tariual I did not like having in there, but I just felt bad for her mostly, because her only purpose as a character is to be somebody's girlfriend. If you cut out the romance, there's nothing to her, theres nothing that makes her special or unique or interesting. And that's a shame. Also Kili's trousers line? Shame.
Also Legoas was rude as hell about Gloin's wife and child (its Gimli haha, Legolas said he was a little goblin thing and later on they become literally inseparable haha) and I just did not like that.
The third movie....was...
Well, spoilers at this point for anyone who hasn't seen it, but
Fili and Kili should have died together. They should not have separated them like that.
Also I really hated Kili saying that Taurial made him feel young. It's so cliche on it's own and him? HIM? KILI felt OLD beforehand? Since WHEN? If they'd wanted that line, they should've given it to Taurial, that at least would've made slightly more sense. But my sibling and I discussed it, and since in human years Kili would've been around thirty, we decided that he was just having a crisis. And Crisis Kili I can at least understand saying that a bit more.
Ah! Ah! I nearly forgot, why was Kili's head being cradled by a basket walnuts? That choice boggles me, I can't understand it.
Bard was a good father, and it was refreshing to see that for once.
The were-worms....shouldn't have been. We already have five armies going on, we don't need this HUGE EXISTENCE just randomly introduced like that.
Thorin and Bilbo's last scene was done very well, though when he (Bilbo) said his goodbyes to the party, it brought up an issue that has bugged me throughout-
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH AFFECTION IN THESE MOVIES
Hug, kiss, hold, clasp. These are Thorin's friends, his family, they all care so much about each other, but they rarely physically express it, and they should have, because that is a constant thread in Tolkien's works.
Thorin pressing his forehead to Fili's? That was amazing, there should have been more of that, spread out all amongst them. (Also, criminal underuse of Fili, across the board, btw).
And all the moments with Galadrial and Elrond ect and the ring I thought was both unnecessary and bogging down to the story. I know they want to make that connect to the LOTR movies clear, but theres already a lot going in Hobbit storyline in it's own right.
Bilbo and Thorin were my favorites, well cast and well acted. (Though I wish, I wish that they had given Thorin a proper full dwarven beard, Fili and Kili are the babies of the group so I can understand why for them, but this is the king! His beard should've been majestic).
So, to sum up- The first movie wasn't a great book adaptation but it was a pretty solid movie, and I enjoyed it.
And while the second and third ones had their moments that I liked, on the whole I didn't enjoy them very much, and I probably wouldn't watch them again, at least not anytime soon.
These are just my options though, you like them and that's good, because it truly is a wonderful story.

Until My Last Breath (Prologue)
Tumblr media
Summary: When Smaug arrived, he not only killed the dwarves of Erebor, but he also destroyed the lives of the few who survived... whether he did it on purpose or not. After a hundred years, a part of Thorin's past will come back to haunt him in the form of a dwarf who last knocks on the door of Bilbo Baggins' house, resurrecting old grudges and the pain of a life no one wants to talk about. Geira, daughter of Geiri, is anything but an open book, an exiled who no one wants around, a warrior who has no one to fight for, but only an oath she must fulfil.
Relationships: Thorin x FemaleOC
Rating: M
Warnings: none.
AO3 LINK: HERE
Note Number I: English is not my first language, I have a wonderful beta @lathalea <3 (i am so much greatful you can't even imagine) but maybe I will mess up few times.
Note Number II: The Story takes place during the quest but there is a whole backstory that starts since Thorin's childhood so there are going to be a lot of flashbacks. THEY ARE NOT IN A CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER so the whole back story could be guessed but will be explained later in the story.
Note Number III: I will mix up the book events and the movie events, fixing what where (from my point of view) some mistakes were made. I have decided to do so simply because there are some lacks of infos here and there and so many lost possibilities in some actionless time, as happened in Mirkwood and Laketown.
I am blood of your blood, and bone of your bone, stone of your stone
I gift you my body so it can fall instead of yours.
I give you my soul so it can  wait for yours in the Great Halls.
I lend you my voice so it can order your commands
I present you my sword so it can slay the ones who wish to harm you.
No other dwarf will be mine, no other dwarf will own me,
no one will sleep next to me, no life will come out from the womb of mine.
No one I will serve over the crown, over the Seven Stars, over the Father of all fathers, over the King of all Kings.
I offer myself to you, until the end of times, until the mountains soar to the sky,
until all the blood dries, until the fires of Mahal’s forge blaze high.
Until my last breath, until my last glance, until my last blow,
until the last time my hands touch the rock our Father gave to us,
my life is yours and your wish is mine.
--------------------------------------------------
The house of Bilbo Baggins was more crowded than usual that evening, and the owner was more than a little disconcerted: not only had his peace of mind been disturbed, not only was his larder completely, utterly, depleted, but his kitchen, indeed his whole house, was overrun with dwarves! Thirteen dwarves! Plus a wizard he had met in the morning whom he barely knew and had marked the door with a rune, thanks to which his guests had recognised the Hobbit's dwelling. Truly, Bilbo Baggins did not know how to begin to drive them out, he had been trying since the first one (Dwalin, if he remembered correctly) had walked in through the round door, obviously without being heard by any of them.
Crockery, knives, pots and pans, everything had begun to fly from one side of the room to the other without ever stopping. He tried more than once to stop them, without ever succeeding! At that moment his Took blood was more useless than a fork when eating soup. In fact, his Baggins blood had gotten the better of him, leading him to accept the situation with no small amount of annoyance, including those black strokes on his yellow walls and the fragments of food scattered on the floor. Oh, not to mention his good wine, totally gone! It had taken him hours to sort out his pantry between days before and now all his food, all his tomatoes, all his wine, all his cheese, everything, gone, vanished, and it was not even the time for the spring solstice party yet!
And now, or in heaven's name, now Gandalf had even had the courage to tell him that he would have to get used to them! To all of them! To the twelve dwarves in his kitchen! And what on earth did the wizard mean by saying  that he would have to put up with them forever!
Annoyed, he began to walk down the corridor arguing with Gandalf and putting his hands on his hips.
"I don't understand what they are doing in my house!" he shouted, raising his voice.
The wizard didn't reply, but a small voice behind him did and before he knew it his entire set of porcelains was in the air.  His cutlery was being knocked over his table. Knife blades were being dulled by their rubbing against fork handles, and before he knew it, in time to the music, his entire kitchen set was flying through the air.  Oh no, no no no, not that chair, no, not that plate, no not that other plate! No, stop, please!
His pleas were soaring through the air, as if they were leaves on a wind, as were his dishes. And Gandalf sat smoking his pipe on a chair with an amused smile while all this happened before his eyes. Bilbo ran to the kitchen to put an end to this madness, but as soon as he did so, he noticed to his surprise that all the things that had been flying over his head until just now were neatly stacked on top of each other on his kitchen table.
He blinked, several times adjusting his braces, unable to believe his eyes.
The dwarves seemed highly amused by his reaction, and began to laugh, until three knocks on the door brought silence and an icy air that he could feel all the way down to his hobbit ankles.
"He is here," Gandalf said.
From the doorway a short while later another dwarf entered and it didn't take him long to realise that he was different, very different from the others who had entered his home moments before. Every single beard turned to face the newcomer as he walked inside.
Bilbo didn't know who it was and he didn't even really care, no one would enter his house unannounced, no one.
But he couldn't admit that his blood ran cold in his veins as soon as that dwarf started talking to him and asking him all those strange questions. What did he mean by axe or sword? Did he really believe that a hobbit like him had ever picked up either weapon? Who did he think he was? He could not hide his confusion at the last statement of the so-called Thorin Oakenshield.
"He looks more of a grocer than a burglar," he joked.
It was all too absurd for Bilbo's poor hobbit ears, all so surreal! His life, monotonous and lonely until a few hours ago, was now changing, he could feel it in his bones, and he could not understand if it was a good thing or not: he had always dreamed of adventure when he was a young hobbit, but now it was different; the walls of his home were so comforting and safe, every object was a certainty for him. His life was there and he would never leave it, no sir!
Calmness, however, continued to reign for a long time, during which the largest of the dwarves, with a long red beard, went to his kitchen and with an almost surreal care began to prepare a soup. Thorin Oakenshield sat down at the head of the table and was soon joined by the oldest of the dwarves who had entered his house, Balin, and two of the youngest, the two brothers Fili and Kili.
They began to talk in low voices, in a calm and quiet tone, just like everyone else in his house. It seemed absurd, but at least he was able to sort out some of the leftovers that had been left behind in the kitchen back in his own larder and eavesdrop, even if he didn't want to (it was rude) on some of the conversations that various small groups of dwarves were having. The ties of kinship were quickly understood, as was the realisation that Thorin was not really just another dwarf. No more plate was flying, no more song was being sung, but not out of fear, out of respect.
He turned his head, watching the almost regal profile as he spoke to the bear who came into the house first, but he could not hear what they were talking about, the fact was that their faces were dark, and Dwalin's eyes moved insistently over him.
A short while later Bombur returned with the soup, handing it to Thorin, and in the blink of an eye the groups of dwarves in his house were grouped together again, sitting around the table. He wasn't invited, that's normal, there's a meeting in a house and the owner of that house isn't invited! Not that he cared, of course not, the apple he was putting in the basket in the kitchen was certainly more interesting.
But he couldn't help but listen.
"What news from the Ered Luin, did they all come?" asked the older dwarf.
"Aye, envoys from all seven kingdoms," the voice of Thorin spoke, setting off a round of small laughs and joyful murmurs.
"And what do the dwarves of the Iron Hills say? Is Dain with us?"
A long wait ensued in which Bilbo swore he could hear the heart of every single dwarf in the room beating wildly.
"They will not come,"
The dwarf's reply was sharp and decisive. Disconsolate murmurs rose from his dining room that only increased in volume and quantity when he spoke again. "They said this quest is ours and ours alone,"
They began to talk in low voices, in a calm and quiet tone, just like everyone else in his house. It seemed absurd, but at least he was able to sort out some of the leftovers that had been left behind in the kitchen back in his own larder and eavesdrop, even if he didn't want to (it was rude) on some of the conversations that various small groups in that group were having. The ties of kinship were quickly understood, as was the realisation that Thorin was not really just another dwarf. No more  flying plates, no more singing songs, but not out of fear, out of respect.
A coughing noise, however, stopped the murmurs and caused Bilbo to turn to the table from behind the kitchen wall as well, distracting himself from his chores. Gandalf settled into the small chair and began to search the sleeve of his grey robe.
"This indeed, it is not entirely true," he explained as he slowly pulled a long wooden pipe from his sleeve. "There is someone else who has yet to arrive," the sorcerer explained, barely looking Thorin in the eye.
For all the pipe weed in the world, again?
The dwarf at the head of the table stopped sipping from his goblet of ale, giving him a sidelong glance but remained silent. Instead, the dwarf named Gloin spoke, crossing his arms over his chest. "This means yet another division of profit, all of which should have been agreed upon first." he muttered.
"Agreed, this matter should have been dealt with weeks ago," Dori pinned, pulling himself up.
Gandalf did not even look up at the elder dwarf, adjusting the tobacco in his pipe.  "My decision was made after our meeting in the Ered Luin. And Master Gloin, I think that our member does not wish any of that gold in that Mountain."
"Who is it?" grunted Dwalin suspiciously, looking up at the wizard who lit his pipe with his fingertips.
Bofur chuckled under his big black mustache, puffing an avalanche of white smoke from the side of his mouth. "Another burglar?"
"A burglar for the burglar," Fili grinned at the back of the room.
"A burglar made for the burglar," Kili added and their banter invited the murmurs from just before. This time, however, they were louder, more confused, as was his hobbit head.
A torrent of questions flooded the room as they all asked questions of the wizard, who, bewildered, tried to answer; only Thorin's intervention put an end to the commotion created, shouting warnings in their native tongue. Then he turned to the sorcerer himself, glancing at him.
"The questions that have arisen around this table are fair," he began earnestly, "I have not been informed of any others, none of this was a part of the bargain, Gandalf."
Gandalf smiled with the side of his mouth taking a puff of his pipe. "I was told to find the fourteenth member of this company and so I did, the addition of a fifteenth should not be an unsolvable problem."
"As I said it wasn't in the agreements and last minute clauses at a time like this are not convenient, not at all," retorted the dwarf bringing silence again.
Bilbo looked at the dwarves, clouded by the smoke from the pipes and the warmth of the candles around the table. They looked at each other's hands or watched Thorin in silence, not uttering a breath.
Gandalf put down his pipe and crossed his arms on the table, moving slightly closer to the dwarf with long raven hair.
"I assure you that my choice was not taken lightly, and if I had thought it was right a few months ago I would have reported it to you back then. But it was not possible," Gandalf lowered the tone of his voice even further. "You must trust me on this."
"Is this person crucial to what we must accomplish?" he asked quietly, looking straight into his eyes.
The wizard murmured a small "yes" between his lips, nodding his head slightly as he continued to look the dwarf lord straight in the eye.
Thorin said nothing, watched the wizard for a few more seconds before letting himself go off the back of his chair and then he took a sip of ale from his mug again. The conversation had ended in a few simple sentences, yet Bilbo noticed how the wizard continued to look at Thorin insistently.
Gandalf brushed his gloves around his hands with his fingertips dropping his gaze downwards for a few seconds before turning his head back towards him.
"Bilbo, my dear fellow," he called to him in a manner far more cheerful than his face was capable of showing. "Let us have a little more light".
----/////----
A snort passed her lips.
She was dreadfully late, which she hated from the bottom of her heart; and she hated the fact that she was going to a strange house of a Hobbit whose identity she did not know, although after all those years she had become accustomed to being in the homes of strangers quite often. Perhaps the real reason for her stomach clenching was not whose house it was but who she was supposed to meet in that house and the reason why she was going to that house. Because when she would see them again, all of them , it would not be pleasant or easy.
Far from it.
She didn't even think it would ever happen, nor did he want it to happen again.
She slung her sack over her shoulder as she climbed up the little dirt road, passing funny grass-covered houses by the round door: if it had been daytime, a riot of colours would have accompanied her path and perhaps, for a few minutes, she would not have thought about the imminent meeting.
She would have stopped for a few brief moments on that bench next to the path and sat there for a short while, perhaps lighting her pipe or watching those very peaceful people go about their simple business. Watching them do simple, mechanical things, perhaps in another life she might even have stayed in such a place, in peace, with someone. But no, too many years had passed, she had seen too much, heard too much, and she would not be able to live like that, not there.
Suddenly, a faint pale light caught her attention: she approached it and, with a thump in her heart, recognised the rune that the sorcerer had traced so that they could all see it. She reached the garden and climbed the small steps that led to the round green door. She ran a hand over her leather bodice and gathered in her heart all the emotions she could possibly feel.
Hatred, fury, pain and anger, so much anger.
She gritted her teeth and tried to ignore the voices she could hear through the door.  Taking a deep breath to calm her already jangled nerves, she knocked, hearing a great commotion and excited voices from inside.
The door suddenly opened, and it was the sorcerer himself who filled her field of vision: he broke into a rather smug smile, proud to have been right for the umpteenth time.
He knew she would come at last.
She had met him only a few weeks before and he was exactly as the rumours said. Gandalf's every move was studied and planned and, who knows why, everything corresponded to the plan he had devised; how every cog in that mechanism worked was a great mystery. Yet for that, she could not but admire him.
So, after he had silently nodded his head, she entered the cosy, warm house that smelled of good food and wine and was lit by the soft light of candles; she followed him into a corridor and the smell of ashes and moss entered her nostrils, as well as that of processed tobacco and malt. In a few steps she found herself in front of a small room where, around a table, were crammed all the others who, as soon as they glimpsed their new guest, assumed the most surprised and astonished expressions she had ever seen. Their faces turned pale, their beards seemed to stretch to the floor, and none of them dared say a word. Only one of them stood up so fast that he knocked over the stool on which he was sitting, irate.
"What is she doing here?!"
The rumble of thunder rumbled through the room and like a thunderbolt it brought to light old hidden shadows, old whispered words, broken oaths.
--------------------------------------------------
You're blood of my blood, bone of my bone, stone of my stone,
I embrace your body to let it protect me
I take your soul and forge for it a place next to me in the Great Halls
I take your voice which I will hear above all others
I take your sword and I present you my shield which will protect you from my enemies.
No other dwarf will be yours, no other dwarf you will serve,
no one will  keep you company at night, no life will come out from you.
No one you will serve over me, over the Seven Stars, over the Father of all fathers, over the King of all Kings.
I offer myself to your hands until the start to the end, until the skies fall on the ground,
until all the bones crack, until the  fires of Mahal’s forge blaze high.
Until my last breath, until my last glance, until my last blow,
until the last time my hands touch the rock our Father gave to us
my desires are yours, your pain is mine.

Hello! I had an idea for an imagine that I wanted to get your thoughts on, if that's fine by you. Which Characters from The Hobbit and Lotr do you think would most enjoy dating a Dark Academia-style Writer? So like she dresses in the Dark Academia fashion, reads Classical Literature and her own stories and essays to them while cuddling, excitedly Rants about History and Literature to them, and maybe they even find her journal full of sappy love poems and rambles about how much she loves them? Who do you think would be most down for a s/o like that, if you don't mind me asking. I'd love to get your thoughts on this, and your blog is so spectacular btw!
Oh ho ho, my friend, this is right up my alley. I am obsessed with Dark Academia.
For ‘The Hobbit’:
Bilbo Baggins.
He was literally the first person to pop into my head. He is a perfect mix of cottage core and light academia, and I feel like he would have a lot of love for dark academia as well. When you’d cuddle, you’d both be reading your respective books (or even better, reading the same book with one another, or even even better, reading aloud to one another), and when a particularly deep or meaningful quote or scene happens, you would both discuss it thoroughly. You would both go into rants about history and literature you find interesting, and understand one another perfectly, going into incredible depth about the topics. If he ever found love poems you wrote about him, he would read them with the fondest smile upon his face. Who knows, in a few days, you might even come across a few poems or songs he has written about you.
Bard.
Bard has a lot of respect for history, (I hold firm to the belief that he was one of the very few lake men who really cared about the towns past), and would probably even help teach you some history of Dale and Esgaroth. And if you teach him about our worlds history and mythology, he would be all ears and find it utterly fascinating. He would totally be down to just spending quiet days at the library with you, and would probably read every book you recommend to him (Imagine discussing ‘A Secret History’ with him… that would be quite an interesting conversation). And if he ever came across love rants/poems… this man would get all cute and tell you how much they mean to him. He’s just that kind of person.
Thorin.
This dwarf would be incredibly into Dark Academia. I can just imagine dressing him up in one of those gray waistcoats with the white, long-sleeved undershirt. If he should roll the sleeves up to the elbow… sigh. He could totally dress the part. And he would absolutely love seeing you dressed dark academia style. His color palate is very similar to what is typically dark academia. And get ready for hours of discussing both dwarrow and human history with him. Also, if I may go out on a limb here, there is this headcannon I have about dwarrow museums being carved into old mineshaft used of resources. Thorin would be immensely proud and excited to show you and teach you everything in the museums. Walking down the stone halls and him pointing out various carvings and texts on the walls, your dark academia mind couldn’t be happier. And cuddles with his arm around your shoulders, lying in bed after a long day, ending the night reading. He would occasionally look down at what your reading (possibly asking what’s going on in the plot, depending on if you get annoyed by interruptions or not) and smile to himself. If you read your own work to this dwarf, expect the best feedback possible. He is very thorough with his feedback, and knows how to properly give constructive criticism as well as highlighting the best parts of your work.
Lindir.
This sweet little elf would be beside himself. He loves the libraries in Rivendell, and you sharing and reading stories with him opens up worlds. He would also love the way you dress, and will often ask what has inspired your ‘look’ for the day. He gets excited when you come to him with a new topic to rant about, and will likely contribute some very insightful views on the matter. When you come to him with questions about Middle Earth’s history, he will gladly answer whatever you ask (and probably end up having a history rant of his own. ‘Hey Lindir, what are the Silmarils?’ ‘…how about you sit down, and we’ll chat about it for a few months.’). He would just be the sweetest if he found your love rambles, and would be blushing the entire time reading them. Expect a wonderful thank you and an entire sonnet of his own composed for you.
Ori.
Can’t forget this little scribe. He would be beside himself at finding a fellow reader and writer, and the two of you would have so many reading sessions where you discuss what exactly this word meant in this context, or just ranting sessions where you gush and/or vent about a certain scene or plot development. He would find your outfits absolutely exquisite and probably even help you piece some together. Cuddling with him while reading is honestly the best, because you’ll just be laying side-by-side, surrounded by pillows and blankets (possibly in front of a fireplace in the Great Erebor Library), and just be reading your different books together, content to just read without feeling the need to talk. If you ever read your work to him, he would be beside himself at the level of trust you place in him (being a writer, he knows how daunting sharing your work can be), and he would love whatever you write. Expect him to start sharing his work as well. For the love poems, You’ll probably find his poems/rambles first, tbh. He just loves expressing himself through writing, and expressing his love for you is his favorite thing. You both get all sappy and blushy when you read one another declarations of love.
For ‘Lord of the Rings’:
Frodo Baggins.
Much like his Uncle, Frodo has a healthy appreciation for history and literature. He’d just love pouring over different books with you, and discussing them. His favorite thing to do with you on rainy days is to curl up with a good book and read aloud. Maybe even a walk down the trails and paths with an umbrella as well (Lobelia in the hobbit movies and the end of return of the king has proven there to be umbrella’s in Middle Earth). Hobbits are known for their passion for History, particularly family History, so he’ll definitely go into some rants of his own about the history of the Shire, and will sit and listen to your rants as well.
Elrond.
Lord Elrond is like a living, breathing, history textbook. He would be the absolute best person to discuss historical events and mythology and such. His keenness for knowledge knows no limits. There will definitely be very, very, long conversations about literature and meanings behind what the author writes, and the morals and values of the texts. Honestly, there is just such a depth of understanding between you and Elrond that is incredibly hard to find in others.
Faramir.
This man. This is the man who literally fanboyed over Gandalf and became a pupil to him. He would absolutely be beside himself when he meets you, because another human who is obsessed with learning and history and literature and discussing it and having deep conversations about it??? He would fall hard. And he would always love the way you dress, whether you are wearing a cozy sweater-vest or a dramatic trench coat. The two of you would literally spend hours in Gondor’s libraries, pouring over shelves of scrolls and books, taking notes on them, and maybe with a few older ones, restoring them together. Your favorite thing to do before going to bed is lighting a few candles and reading together. He would especially be fascinated and amazed at anything you have written and willing to share with him. He honestly just loves you so much, and feels so understood when he’s around you. And finding love poems written about him fills him with an indescribable amount of joy.
Aragorn.
When not off doing important Ranger or Kingly duties, Aragorn would just love to spend time reading with you. The kind of quality time where neither person needs to say anything, because the simple presence of the person is enough. He’s very into History, and I can totally see him ranting to you about the story of Beren and Luthien (perhaps the rest of the Silmarillion if he has the time), and would love to hear about your stories and books from our world. He’s the kind of person who prefers to dress practical, but that doesn’t stop him from complimenting your outfits and thinking how great you look every time you walk into the room. He loves the aesthetic of it. And should he ever stumble across a poem about him, he will probably keep it to himself, but memorize every word and repeat it to himself while traveling.
So I may have gotten just a tad bit carried away with this, but it was so much fun doing! Thank you for this ask! I hope this is what you were looking for. Now, i’m going to make myself a cup of tea and go to bed.

Coming Home
Two fics in one day?! Kind of, it’s like 10 pm and I know I should wait until tomorrow, but only like 4 people are gonna care about this anyway so I figured I might as well post it now. I have a lot of feelings about Fíli, so that’s where this came from. I might expand on this, just because I really love him, but we’ll see how things go. Also I’m once again mixing book and movie-verse because there are some things about the movie that bother me. Okay, so here we go! I hope people like this one! See the end for the traslations of the Khuzdul (Dwarvish) words I used!
Pairing: Fíli x dwarf!reader
Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Words: 1157
Warning: mentions of violence and injuries/blood but nothing crazy
Tumblr media
It had been a long trek to Erebor, but finally you and your party made it to the Lonely Mountain. The moment you had received the news that the mountain had been reclaimed you set out with the first group of your kin, led by Dís the sister of Thorin Oakenshield and mother to your intended, Fíli.
Travelling in secret was necessary, you didn’t want to risk anything happening before you got there. The world of men was not always kind to dwarves, and you were a distrustful people. The journey took longer than you would have liked, but finally you were here, looking at your new home.
You hadn’t been born in Erebor, Smaug had taken the mountain long before, but you had grown up with stories of the battle and the song of the lonely mountain, just like others of your kin who were too young to have been in Erebor.
“It’s beautiful,” you whispered to no one in particular.
Dís heard you and nodded, “It used to be even more so. There was a battle here, look. You can see the fallen rocks and there, it looks like they burned the bodies of the orcs that attacked. The battle wasn’t mentioned in the letter I received, I worry about what we will find when we enter the mountain.”
That thought hadn’t occurred to you, but now you were worried as well. You tried not to run ahead of the rest of your party, but you were definitely walking faster. When you were close enough, you saw someone on the wall at the gate and you could just barely hear a shout to open the gate.
The gates opened for you, and there Fíli stood, waiting. He knew his mother was coming with this first group, but he had not expected to see you beside her.
He called your name and you ran to him, smiling more than you had in the months since you had last seen him.
“Fíli!” you called, racing towards him.
He smiled at you and caught you in his arms, holding you close and kissing you passionately.
“I didn’t think you would be coming yet,” he whispered. “I thought I would have to wait to see you again.”
“You really thought I would wait? You’ve already been gone for thirteen months! I wasn’t going to wait a moment longer than I absolutely had to. I still think you should have let me come with you.” you said.
“You know that was never going to happen. We all barely survived, I wouldn’t dream of risking your life like that,” he answered.
You smiled at him and kissed him again. You could hardly believe you were really here, that you were seeing him again.
“I’m very upset at you for almost dying, but we’ll discuss that later. For now I want to see our new home,” you said, taking his hand and following him inside the mountain.
Erebor was even more beautiful than you had been told. The halls were vast and even though it was still being rebuilt, it was glorious. You followed Fíli through the halls, watching him more than where you were going. You were just so happy to see him again. He looked different, like he had seen too much in the time since he had left the Blue Mountains, but he was smiling at you and he was alive.
By the time he had finished showing you everything he was wincing slightly and looked uncomfortable, but he still kept smiling at you.
“Fi, what’s wrong?” you asked, stopping him.
“I’m fine, amrâlimê,” he said. “I think I just need to rest for a bit. Can we go to my rooms?”
You nodded quickly and followed him. He sat by the fire and you watched him nervously. When he lifted his shirt and you saw the blood-soaked bandage across his chest you gasped.
“Fi! Why didn’t you say something? How did this happen? Let me change the bandages for you.”
You sprung into action, and ran out of the room before he could stop you. You found some hot water and fresh bandages and hurried back to Fíli’s room with your supplies in hand. He was still sitting by the fire when you got there and you kneeled in front of him changing the bandages with care.
“You should have told me about this, I’m very upset with you, madtubirzul,” you said as you finished your work. “Now tell me what happened, please.”
Fíli sighed and let you get comfortable before recounting the tale of the Battle of the Five Armies. You listened in horror when he told you of how he was injured protecting Thorin. Oin hadn’t been sure that he would even survive, but he had and he was here, telling you about the battle.
“I didn’t want to worry you needlessly. I’m fine, amrâlimê. I promise.” he said, cradling your face gently.
“You almost died,” you whispered. “I could have lost you, and Thorin and Kíli as well. Your mother could have lost her whole family!”
“I know that, but it didn’t happen. We’re all alive and mostly healthy and we’ve taken back the mountain. We’re finally home, the place Thorin told us stories about when we were growing! We are here in Erebor together. We can finally get married like we wanted to, and we can rebuild, and one day when I’m king, you’ll be my queen and we can be happy.” he was smiling and you couldn’t help but smile back at your sweet prince.
“Maralmizu,” you whispered. “I can’t wait to share my life with you, Fíli.”
“Maralmizi,” he smiled at you. “I can’t wait either. You are everything to me, I am so glad you’re finally here with me.”
“So am I,” you kissed him again.
You sat with him for hours, just talking. He told you all about his journey to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug and then fighting the Gundabad orcs. At some time during his retelling, he had pulled you into his lap gently. You tried to protest, he was still injured, but he promised to be careful and said he just needed to be close to you again. You complied, and held onto him as tightly as you dared and laid your head on his shoulder.
“I’m glad we’re together again, Fi,” you whispered.
“As am I,” he said, holding you close. “Come on, it’s late and you’ve had a long journey.”
He smiled and led you to the large bed and you blushed a little when you climbed in beside him.
“Thorin will probably disapprove, but I’m not letting you go ever again,” he said, holding you close to him.
“I couldn’t agree more,” you said.
Fíli smiled and kissed your forehead gently, humming softly to help you fall asleep.
“Goodnight, amrâlimê,” he whispered to you.
“Goodnight,” you said as you drifted off to sleep.
