What would happen if Nina never came to Amun Boarding Academy?
i think patricia would have lost it with worry as she did in canon, but with no nina-took-her-place!! accusations, people (fabian and mara, mainly) would have been less dismissive, even if they didn't quite share her worry. the facetime with joy would have happened a lot quicker as a result since everyone would want answers. but i simply don't think sarah would have dumped the locket on them (one, because she has no kinship with them, and two, since it wouldn't work for them anyway), so they would not have any way to truly discover the ~mystery~, let alone solve it.
patricia's pre-sibuna plotlines (up until kidnapping rufus) would be mostly the same, though, maybe dragging fabian along with her (since he's not busy with nina)…but more likely that he refuses to participate but knows what she's up to, so he ends up being the one to bail her out lol. joy would have still sent her the messages/been there in the audience, and i'd like to think they still find her on prom night and know something is up, but it's not going to be as clean as an ending because they have no way of knowing what that something is.
so then joy would have come back super duper traumatized with no answers, and maybe she'll fill in patricia and fabian about what she knows, but certainly not amber – not that that thought would even occur to her, anyway, considering amber would not have founded sibuna if it weren't for nina. and then nothing would happen in s2 because there's no fabina date-turned-senkhara release (actually, there's no cup for senkhara to be stuck in in the first place). maybe they see the adults milling around and follow them, but it's more likely that the adults are unsuccessful since they can't spy on the kids and get the answers.
jerome's entire thing would still happen though, so he'd still get the gem and have to deal with rufus…not sure how that would shape up but I think this is when eddie's Osirian powers would awaken somehow (even with the actual chosen one miles away and unaware), and patricia (dragging joy and fabian with her) would follow him and that's how they all get involved?
but then s3 rolls around and no one knows anything because sweet's kept his mouth shut, and maybe alfie steals that bracelet but i doubt that, without 2 years of sibuna shit under their belts, the kids would even think of it being a mystery, let alone decide to follow the trail or whatever. not to mention the fact that amber wound not even be involved in sibuna anyway. actually, i feel like amber would have just bugged the school to give her a year-round place and stayed in the states after fashion camp without ever coming back lolol but for the sake of this, she does come back first
so amber has the bracelet and probably just gives it right back to victor. maybe jerome gets involved via alfie and is like idk if you should have done that but they don't listen because what is he even talking about.
so kt shows up with this key and it's her and eddie against the world, except eddie immediately confides in fabian about his visions, and since fabian doesn't have a (weak) excuse to be a dummy about it in this au, the three of them immediately start working together. and jabian stays besties throughout s2 and up to this point because at least that aspect of her psyche is a little less traumatized here, so joy's in, and brings patricia with her. but, like, no locket! and probably no bracelet! so they have no leads or ideas…and this is when jerome crashes the party like "yo victor's package was a mysterious bracelet and i think it's important?" and somehow they figure out denby's a fraud and the adults are Up To Something. and joy's like "i know their weaknesses let's get em" and they try to thwart the eclipse ceremony, but fail to do so, in basically the same way in canon (except that both jerome and joy also know what's going on). so now alfie's involved too because "wtf was that, guys," and the lead up to the rfs-is-alive reveal is all pretty much the same besides the extra sibuna members.
(also cheating arc still happens amidst all the ceremony drama lol) (and the fake date-turned-peddie getting back together) (and the dog-washing-turned-jeroy-arc)
so anyways! with nearly the whole house involved, and especially joy, there's a buddy system immediately implemented to make sure none of them get taken (miss mercer's directive, obvi). sinners are victor, sweet, and mara. patricia does get jealous here, but joy recognizes it and manages to calm her down (/not let her run off alone anywhere/throw her laptop in the toilet). so that's not a thing.
so the phonograph doesn't get destroyed, they manage to break out the three sinners before 2 more are taken, and all is fine in the world…
until he and patricia and kt go back to the states for university and the two of them meet kt's new roommate ("she was actually my bestie in preschool! small world!") and now that the chosirian are together again, well…
college!sibuna, anyone?

my S2 rewatch of HOA
so the thing about HOA is that the first couple episodes are always the weakest, it’s before the mystery begins and it’s not that interesting
i despise love triangles and the fact that couples break up due to misunderstanding so fabina breaking up so fast wasn’t fun for me
alfie was the best part of those first couple of episodes in his amber quest, the king tut outfit was iconic
i love bobby lockwood, sad to see him go, glad that it was for wolfblood
i should rewatch that after i finish hoa
joy’s storyline being completely fabian obsessed isn’t my favorite either, especially bc we see how organized and smart she is in planning events, that was fun, and we could’ve explored her having more tense moments around the teachers and victor.
though Klariza plays her with such charismatic acting that hey, Joy's in her villain era and she works it so well. im highly attracted to her when she's in control and scenes where she's just a plain bitch, like not signing up Mara for the competition. it's not a good thing to do obviously, still kinda hot in a villain way.
but anyway, all in all i hate making her into this almost wattpad-like character that is all about the boy and makes Nina into this horrible person that stole everything from her when there was never any build up to them being enemies. like never.
seeing her high-five mr. sweet was all around weird when you remember he was one of the adults responsible for her kidnapping
not even ms. andrews tries to apologize. come on daphne, you’re the one of these assholes i like (adults i mean)
i dont even like jasper all that much
WAIT NO IM SORRY TRUDY I DIDN’T MEAN IT YOU’RE A TREASURE AND IK I WOULD LOVE YOUR CHOCOLATE CAKE IF I HAD IT
i gotta say, victor playing young sarah’s message about ‘the atheneum is the place to look. lift the wings to find the book. hidden in this book of old, water of life and tears of gold.’
i recited that from memory
im just wondering, why did little sarah do that? record that message? did dad tell her about it? did she figure it out and did it herself? gimme context @frobisher-smythe if you got any
lets review some characters so far yeah?
eddie really doesn’t get the vibe that he’s in a boarding school with rules, it’s hilarious to see him make pancake runs in the kitchen and have victor catch him and him try to talk victor into it. he’s the newest kid so it makes sense especially when you count in his troublemaker personality. but still quite refreshing, i want to see him succeed one day, get victor to do a pancake run with him and get him to feel like a kid for once bc the guy is 95 and you best bet he didn’t feel like a kid even when he was a kid.
jerome is particularly interesting with his sister. he almost feels like a parent actually. poppy said so herself that she keeps his pictures on her phone because he was there for her, he came to recitals their mother flaked on, and he was there a lot. he tells mara he ‘trained her himself’ so he definitely spent time around her when she was little. and he takes her phone, keeps it, and if you rewatch the episode during the masked ball where she’s hiding and trying to get the letter and he feels betrayed by mara for her helping poppy do this, he sounds like a dad. he sounds like a dad trying to keep his kid out of trouble. and its really sad when you think about how he had to grow up fast. he’s been at boarding school since he was 5 years old, and the thing about boarding school is that it’s teenagers gaining some independence from parents, they’re alone more often despite the adult supervision, they don’t have their parents. jerome basically spent the better of 10 months every year since he was 5 without his parents. no wonder he became the way he is, and no wonder he tried to be there for his sister when she was growing up.
when he gets kidnapped by Rufus and he's fighting back, Rufus threatens to get Poppy as well and it's the absolute horror on his face that really sells it to me.
ngl, i feel bad for victor. rufus clearly sent vera with all the bullet points on how to sweeten up to the old bird and he is falling hard and fast. “smart and pretty lady likes to stuff animals AND she despises children? plus she cooks?” im surprised he didn't propose on the spot
idk about ya'll but i completely forgot about whether or not Vera really cared about Victor since i havent seen this in a minute. so lets talk about her. Vera's motives can be seen as though she's completely in cahoots with Rufus but really she's just a hired gun. he likes her, sure, but she genuinely believes that Rufus is insane. the whole 'becoming a god via the mask' is just too wild for her. think about it, from her perspective the Mask is a really old, really priceless thing she can exchange for lots of money but this old English bloke created a set of tunnels, why? bc rich people are weird. that's understandable, that's somewhat believable, the evil Senkhara ghost thing? pff, that’s going in the denial bucket. she denies it so much even after her frozen debacle. but even if she believed it all she wanted was riches in this life not the afterlife. and when he gets the wrong mask, he threatens to kill her, so she shifts her allegiances. get the mask, if this elixir thing Victor talks about is real then even better for her but overall? sell the damn thing and get rich. she might not have been 100% on Rufus or Victor's side, she was on her own side.
we’re finally at the chasm episode and they got the crocodile and i forgot this is where the rest of sibuna comes in!!! yeah!!
reminder that Eddie speaks fluent French. and so does Nina.
Alfie did an improvized interpreted dance for Ms. Andrews. it was glorious.
Victor reading Amber’s diary, “How can a man with perfectly groomed facial hair be so horrid?” as he proceeds to check out said facial hair in the mirror. fucking amazing
NOT AMBER FLASHING THE AMULET IN FRONT OF VICTOR BABE YOU’RE BETTER THAN THAT
not gonna lie, the phobia episode was so interesting when it came to Alfie. we love seeing his progress.
the fact that the Book of Isis was in the study the entire time, no one, not even Victor would’ve found it with the idea of the Mask on everyone’s head
Alfie being a genius with the itching powder
i remember someone posting about the episode where they all keep Victor awake to take the amulets off him, and man i agree, it’s a goddamn hoot
i love it when everyone comes together for something. reminds me of the episode of the cameras where alfie and jerome come up with staring at victor through them.
Alfie killing two birds with one stone, getting to do a fun jewelry heist with his best friend whilst scoring a point for Sibuna.
holy shit, guys, i think Alfie’s my favorite character.
you just know he had so much fun shaking that case.
when victor sleeps, he cuddles corbierre. its adorable.
again, some times i feel so bad for Victor this season, can’t see that Vera is clearly manipulating him.
I know a lot of people didn’t care for the goose chase and the other goose stuff. but the line, said by Alfie, “Alfie knows people.” when explaining how he got the goose is top tier for me
am i the only person thinking that Mr. Sweet feigned knowing Jerome’s dad because he was somewhat responsible for him going to jail? like idk, they were all in on it and pushed John under the bus? otherwise, why deny it and act all sus? @frobisher-smythe @mask-of-anubis thoughts?
damn, i forgot how long the hathor challenge took. between them all being hexed and trying to do everyday stuff with the hexes. nina gets real pushy and unlikeable but i mean i understand, she’s seriously under pressure, her and her friends lives are on the line and she’s the only one who isn’t hexed so she's the only one fully concentrated on the task, plus she feels massively guilty for doing all this. it’s bound to happen.
i suddenly remembered they need a cowbell or smth for this task. ugh, im not gonna lie, this was my least favorite one. probably bc it was just so long.
Jasper stealing the gem and Jerome declaring war. I don’t know why but it’s hilarious. Jasper you have no idea what you’ve started. i forgot that eventually Jerome and Jasper team up and that was actually pretty fun. Jerome started it out because of the Gem, bc Jasper stole it and then finds out that Trudy got kidnapped by this 'Collector', they're in cahoots now and y'know what, Jerome getting into this sketchy business is very-Jerome. idk it just fits his character, both he and Jasper have things to hide, and it's still about Egypt and/or the Frobisher-Smythes so it doesn't feel out of place, it's perfect.
Nina and Fabian hiding in the attic from Jerome and Jerome hiding under Vera’s bed from Vera.
when Sibuna + Jerome figures out that Rufus is back and then they actually decide to tell Victor is a pretty big deal. i really like it. because at this point, it's not about the Cup, it's not about the Mask, it's about Rufus. and that's never a good idea to keep secret. so instead, they immediately tell him, they tell him the truth about Vera, and big reminder that the number 1 rule in Sibuna is to not involve the adults. but they are all so terrified of this man that they know not to keep this hidden. and this time it's Victor who screws up by not believing them (but can ya blame him, all they do is lie)
reminder that during the scheme into giving Rufus a fake mask, Alfie was given the ‘replica’ to give it a new paint job so as to pass it off as the real one. so, not only did Rufus actually have the real one in his hands, throw it across the room, and dented it, but, out of all the Sibuna members, Alfie was the first one to hold the real Mask of Anubis.
and he painted it.
ok so, random thing but i’ve got to say, Klariza Clayton’s acting is incredible. i love Nathalia Ramos but some times certain scenes are left to be desired. but when Joy starts crying her eyes out, even when she knows she’s done bad, it’s heartbreaking and even relatable. Nina however, has to be written a lot in cliffhanging scenes that end up being more silly than serious by the next episode. but it's just a couple of scenes, not the whole show.
so, Victor Sr. died in pursuit of the Mask. does that mean he went through all the tasks? if so, how did they all get reset? and where are his bones?! did Nina just summon up his ghost out of nowhere??
i love how they all have good and proper reactions to Nina getting lost to the game. Alfie's freaking out, he's scared shitless. Patricia is yelling and silently crying. Amber's scared with shock that she couldn't even remember her steps to go back and her tears are much louder than the others. but not louder than Fabian's. he is an absolute wreck, sobbing the loudest and angry and just— just brilliant acting by Brad Kavanagh.
i've got to say, having Nina be benched first is weirdly perfect. it was a red herring that Amber was going to go down first, but instead, it was the main character. and everyone's feeling that loss. and it gives Nina a chance to talk to Victor Sr. and get some exposition about being the Chosen One and find out about the Osirian.
ok, so the next time they play the game, PROPS TO MY FAVORITE: ALFIE LEWIS MANAGING TO NOT GET SWALLOWED UP BY THE GAME BOARDS HE’S AN ICON, PEOPLE. NO ONE ELSE COULD DO IT
them all nominating people to bring over who are smart at chess but also needing someone ‘sneaky’
- Fabian picks Joy
- Amber picks Mara
- Alfie picks Jerome
- and Trixxie picks no one, vv Patricia
idk why but i liked that, they all had good choices, but Joy really was the one. glad she joined in.
i completely forgot that Trudy’s memory doctor was Rufus until he literally rips off the mask.
let me repeat that. Rufus Zeno. rips off his face. Scooby-Doo villain style. this is an actual thing that happened.
i completely forgot that Alfie gets taken by the game during Victor’s period as the gamemaster. ugh. Fabian, this was your idea, first Nina now ALFIE? you seriously suck during this task. buddy, come on, you were great for the spiderweb one but now? get your act together.
I FORGOT THIS IS THE EPISODE THAT JEROME GETS KIDNAPPED FUCK YOU RUFUS
hey Eddie, great Osirian instincts on being able to detect danger. *sarcasm*
the fact that Victor actually tries to call Sweet about Alfie's disappearance, and Alfie’s his least favorite last I checked (that or Eddie probably is) (some might say Nina but i think it’s mainly a rival thing rather than dislike) it tells you, just like when Alfie was immediately lost, Victor was beside himself, he refused to do this, hurting the students wasn't part of the plan. when you think about it, i don't think Victor really likes seeing children in pain, he was obviously abused as a child himself and then he took it out on Sarah, doing the same to her. he may enjoy punishing them with the most inconvenient cleaning supplies but actually hurting or killing any of them was out of the question.
AND THEN FABIAN MESSES UP AGAIN LOSING AMBER AND PATRICIA WHEN JOY'S THE GAMEMASTER BRO COME ON
FABIAN, MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST NOT HELP?? YOU LOST NINA, YOU ALMOST LOST ALFIE, THEN YOU ACTUALLY LOST ALFIE, THEN THE GIRLS. NOTHING YOU'VE DONE IS GOOD DURING THIS GAME.
i honestly love how it comes full circle with Sarah’s doll riddle leading them not to the book of isis but to the key that led to the mask.
AND jerome’s gem being part of what completes the mask.
this season is fucking genius i swear.
AGAIN the idea that Senkhara was planning on having Nina wear it all along— it’s so deceptively obvious but no one ever expects it because we just don't question it. Amber asks what Senkhara even wants the Mask for anyway, she's dead. it’s so fucking cool
i think as a kid i understood that maybe Senkhara was tied to the Mask, that she needed Nina or something to unleash her so she could be free and then they'd find a way to tie her back or banish her
WE WERE CHEATED
I WANT THE ENTIRE SCENE OF ALFIE RUNNING THROUGH ALL THE TUNNELS WITH THE FAKE MASK W THESE TWO 90-YEAR-OLD MEN ON HIS TAIL
i finally got to hear the voices that Eddie's been hearing and the final one, "Find Nina," was Sarah's voice. (at least that's what it sounded like) that was so nice.
i also have a theory about Nina and the Dollhouse. what if Sarah wasn't actually watching them the entire time and Nina was actually unknowingly using her Chosen One powers? times where she legit asks the dollhouse for help, it lights up, after a while it feels like lazy writing for them to find answers quick rather than writing more clues for them to find. we've established that Nina can see the dead, she has 'the gift of sight' as Victor Sr. said. and Eddie can also see the dead, but he can also banish (and eventually have visions). so how do we know that Nina can't summon the dead as well? she constantly dreamt of Sarah, and now she's summoning her for information or help, only through a dollhouse instead of a crystal ball.
Nina telling Victor she had something for him and it was from his father, the utter confusion on his face as to how she could have possibly found this and her giving that message to him, "He says, sorry." as he holds it and weeps.
see, this is another reason to dislike S3, because when he's told that Nina won't be coming back he's glad of it, "she brought too much trouble" which ok fair, but you still wouldn't have gotten the cup because you had the wrong Chosen One, and never would've found the Mask anyway. she brings trouble for you but she's also the only reason things happen. and then he puts her down as being a 'bad influence' in front of Fabian the rest, and Fabian just explodes. like come on, the last time Victor saw Nina she was doing him a kindness, she gave him his father's ring. told him that his father was sorry. and the ring turned out to contain a tear of gold tHAT WE NEVER HEAR ABOUT EVER AGAIN.
what else, what else, what else.
i stand by being a Neddie shipper, because as said before by the resident neddie truther, @frobisher-smythe they have great personalities that compliment each other well.
I'm not surprised that Patricia broke up with Eddie, she's afraid of getting hurt so she does the hurting but the thing is that as a couple, while they enjoy bantering and have a lot in common, they could be foils for each other. kinda like Beck and Jade from Victorious. they're an iconic couple with a cool dude and a mean girl, but the thing about them is that they're incredibly toxic. that doesn't make them uninteresting, but very bad for each other. while i don't think Peddie is full-on toxic, they do have certain things going on like trust issues and lying (on both sides) and jealously issues too. and if you're that insecure about your relationship, if what you have with your partner is so fragile that you can't trust them around other people then why be with them?
Neddie had potential to be something huge and they couldn't even be bothered to explore it a lil bit.
well, i think thats about it, i hope you liked this messy review, the upcoming clips of some of my favorite moments, and be on the look out for my new sibuna inspired side-blog. i think i may get into writing one-shots again over there. @houseofwolfbloods

nina and 2, 7, 14, and 15 for the ask game! :D
Yee my girl!! So many thoughts
2. When did you start liking them?
I watched House of Anubis on youtube for season 1 (and was happy to find out there'd soon be a season 2 premiere) back in 2011/2012. I rewatched it (s1/s2) last year (and again this year). I can't exactly remember the exact time, I always liked her, but from a more recent stand point, I think my more recent fondness is probably based on how kind and compassionate she is. She immediately took off her school jacket to give to Sarah on the bench outside Anubis house. She's kind, clever, and brave (like Barbie!).
7. A quote you remember of her's
Besides all the funny ones "Hi, I'm Nina, I'm from America!""stop playing with your milk!" "Nothing that a year of counseling won't fix." Any of her more deep quotes or serious quotes "Will you free my friends and my family?" "I trust you." I might edit part of the amswer later because right now the only thing on my mind is the funnier things. Also when she gets her and Fabian out of detention with her French.
14. Favorite storyline
Back in the day, I probably would have said season 2 was my favorite, but now I love both s1 and s2 equally. I really enjoy her relationship with Sarah and her growth into the Chosen One throughout season 1. The search for the cup is iconic. So is the Mask. I enjoyed some of the whole house shenanigans as well (the cameras in s1, keeping Victor up all night in s2 (which was Sibuna business that ended up involving the whole house), confronting Jerome!! About the gem!!!). How she wrote the Mysteries of Anubis and threw some shade on Victor. When she insists on going back into the attic (she knows how to pick locks!!!) despite fear and unease because she wants to be certain about whether she saw someone and out of possible concern about the possibility of Joy actually being up there. "I need it because I'm going back up there tonight. I need to know." "Know what?" "If I saw something up there."
Also any Fabina plotline that is happy because those two are cute and love each other and fit so well together (if they had better communication skills especially!!).
15 least favorite storyline?
Honestly? Whatever mini subplot they had going on between her and Fabian in season 2. It was extremely obvious that they both still had feelings for one another, and even they managed that, but they always got in the way of themselves. Nina choosing to do the web task without Fabian, largely out of anger (but also urgency) was reckless.
Also her leaving in s3. While I appreciate and understand and know it is not my place now nor was it then to be mad about the fact Nathalia Ramos decided to leave the show in order to continue her education, I think they could have chosen a better route out than "the Osirian and the Chosen One can't be together..." when it is the Osirian's job to protect the Chosen One. Could this fact be proven by Rufus growing with Sarah and them being the Osirian and Chosen One respectively and him turning out the way he did? Maybe. But Rufus was power hungry, and seemingly had been that way for most of his adolescent/adult life. I think that wasn't too thought out, perhaps she just decided to stay behind for her Gran. This is less of a Nina problem and more of a behind the scenes cause and effect though.
Thank you!!!

fabina h/cs?
Oh yes I was hoping someone would ask me this. Warning this got very long I have a lot of thoughts and feelings
They are so sweet it makes everyone wanna barf sometimes
In S1 some of them (Mick, Mara, Alfie, Patricia) place bets on when they're gonna get together. Mick wins
During S2 Amber tries to get them together in a multitude of different ways. She tries mistletoe, the old "trapping them in a small dark room together" trick, conspiring with Patricia and Alfie to ensure they just so ~happen~ to find themselves alone together, etc.
Throughout S3, they literally never stopped thinking about each other
After graduation, it's a really turbulent and transitionary period in Fabian's life, and he has to assess what he really wants. And he realizes he never stopped loving Nina, and he wants to be with her again
Amber actively encourages him to go after her, saying he'll regret it for the rest of his life if he doesn't
Nina realizes the past year without him has been miserable. It's been awful not having her best friend by her side to talk to and confide in and do things with, and she's missed him so much. So when he reaches out, all of her feelings come rushing back with an intensity, and she decides she doesn't want to lose him again, and they get back together. For good this time.
They go to college in America together, and Fabian ultimately moves to her hometown of Cleveland to be with her
After college they work at a museum together looking at historical stuff all day long. They get to nerd out and they work together well; it's a dream job
Nina tries her best to introduce Fabian to American culture. Some of it is a bigger culture shock than others. Nina is always incredibly amused when he doesn't get words right or he gets flustered and confused at certain customs
He's not sure how he feels about American fast food
American pie, however, is his new favorite thing. Especially Nina's gran's pies
The Fourth of July scares him. But barbecues are nice
Nina is a fan of Cleveland's baseball team. She takes him to a game, and by god is he confused. He has trouble following. The first game is a lost cause. But once Nina points out how dependent the game is on math, then he starts to get the hang of it. A little bit
American driving, however, is horrifying to Fabian. Nina's a pretty good driver, and Fabian's fairly good (if not a bit stiff and nervous) at driving in the UK, but in America it's a whole different animal. Not only are they on the other side of the road, but the drivers here are fast and aggressive. It's very scary. The ONLY reason he eventually learns to do it the American way is because he wants to be able to take Nina out and be a competent enough man to drive a car around
Speaking of cars: one summer they definitely go on a cross-country road trip, just the two of them. It's meant to bring them closer and be romantic, and it is. They love looking at all the sights together, and Fabian is amazed by the sheer diversity of landscape and how gorgeous parts of the country can be. He TRIES to split the driving 50/50, but America is just so goddam BIG, like intimidatingly huge, and he's not used to driving for that long. The driving ends up being more like 70/30 in Nina's favor, but she doesn't mind. She gives Fabian the responsibility of making a road trip playlist, and he knocks it out of the park
At home, they enjoy cozy nights by the fireside, reading and snuggling under blankets
Sweaters! They are sweater people and I enjoy the image of them snuggling together in sweaters
Handwritten letters! They write each other handwritten letters all the time, especially in the summer between season 1-2 and the period of time between graduation and Fabian making the move to America. They both keep every single letter they receive and each keep them stored in a sentimental little box
They like to frequent old/used bookstores and antique shops. Their place is filled to the brim with odd knickknacks and collectibles that they find, and they have an entire wall with shelves piled high with books
They don't need a lot of fancy stuff, and they don't care about being high-class; they don't care much about appearances, and they don't need a lot. All they care about really is being together.
They learn to get better at communication and not let anyone else's opinion about their relationship impact their relationship. They're the only ones that know what's best for them, and they take things at their own pace
Nina can get overly emotional and stressed sometimes, and Fabian's her rock. That's how it's always been, and that's how it always will be
They love to watch the discovery channel and the national geographic channel, along with netflix documentaries
They fuckin LOVE escape rooms, they use every excuse they can to go to escape rooms
Nina takes Fabian to the rock and roll hall of fame, and he's like a kid in a candy store
They are frequent patrons of their local coffee shop, to the point where all the baristas know who they are
They are very cheesy and sentimental all the time. Most everything they do is very thoughtful and has some kind of meaning
They like to write cute notes to each other and leave them around the house
It takes Fabian forever to actually propose to Nina, to the point where he gets calls from Amber just about every day asking when she's getting an engagement announcement. He just wanted to be careful and deliberate about it and make sure everything was perfect
He makes sure the proposal is simple and romantic. He sets up a candlelit dinner, the lights are low, he talks to her softly and sweetly and tells her he loves her and pops the question
Nina, surprisingly, does not cry. Fabian, however, definitely does when she says yes
He proposes with a family ring; his grandmother's ring. It's very sentimental and has a lot of history behind it, and we all know Nina loves that stuff, and the history and story makes her very emotional
He does what he should have done in S2 instead of writing a poem: he writes her a song and plays it for her on the guitar. It's her favorite thing he's ever done for her.
After the engagement they tell Amber before they tell anyone else, because she'd kill them if they didn't
They surprise her with a video call, and they don't tell her at first, but then Nina surprises her and shows off the ring, and Amber screams so loud they're convinced she's going to break glass.
Amber is even more excited than they are, she talks with them absolutely non-stop about their wedding. She even tries to take control of it at some point
Their wedding is a fairly small wedding; it takes place at an outdoor venue in the spring, at a beautiful location just outside her hometown in America. Mick is the best man and Amber is the maid of honor. Amber gives an incredibly emotional MOH speech and sobs buckets. Gran walks Nina down the aisle
Her wedding dress looks a little something like this; definitely something with long lacy sleeves
They have 3 kids, all girls
The oldest is Evelyn, named after Nina's gran. She's got dark hair, Nina's curls, Nina’s light blue eyes, and she looks like Fabian. She got Nina's courageous leadership side, she's very adventurous
The middle child is Sarah. She looks like someone legit photocopied Nina. Same hair color, same curls, same eyes, same general facial features. She got the intellectual and bookish side of both of them
The youngest is Eloise, kind of a little bit after Sarah's mother but mostly they just liked the name. Often they call her "Lou" and she definitely goes by that when she's older. She somehow got to be strawberry blonde, has less curls than her sisters, she has Fabian's blue-green eyes, and is a mix of them both when it comes to facial features. She got the part of them that liked to sneak around and break the rules; as she gets older she becomes very rebellious, and Nina jokes "are we sure this child came from me and not Patricia?"
All 3 girls are little troublemakers and they're partners in crime
At some points when the girls are a bit much Fabian gets stressed and shouts "we're outnumbered!!!!!"
Amber is their aunt and showers the girls with expensive presents all the time, especially clothes, which all of the girls LOVE. Nina and Fabian accuse her of spoiling them and she says "If I can't spoil them then what's the point of being the rich beloved aunt?"
The girls do indeed love Amber, all three of them adore her
When the girls get older they find the boxes of letters their parents wrote to each other, they think it's very sweet
Even as they get older, the two of them always set aside time to be romantic with each other
And they remain each other's best friend and confidante forever and ever
yo please feel free to keep sending me these! or asking me my opinions on stuff! this is a lot of fun!

my hoa ranking of characters — least favorite to favorite
not all characters are on this list but the ones i felt like i could rank as of rn. there’s too many minor characters i don’t care for and it’s not that i particularly care for the others i just remembered them enough to rank.
~~~~~~~~~~
rufus — -70969943853/10
kidnapped patricia. and jerome. and trudy. willing to commit human sacrifice of a kid. threatened them with electric bees or whatever. have had nightmares about him. thrilled that bitch is dead
denby — -10/10
so threatening with her words but she’s all talk. no action. kinda makes me hate her more? but in a different way. storyline is so messy like how did she even find out harriet’s destiny and how did she then decide she wanted to awaken a >hundred year old man and basically a hell demon?? like girl just go work for donald trump or somethin
vera — -6/10
not as annoying as denby but still like what did she even want? to be with rufus? why?!?? creepy af the time she was frozen dead but like not.
mick — 1/10
just,,, there. all he does is be in love triangles and play the sports. half of his storylines are just him leaving. patricia says there’s a man in the house (rufus) and he eats a banana. n who gives their gf and “just a friend” matching bracelets?!? 1 point for not being evil.
victor — 1.5/10
as much as i wanna put him above mick, he yells too much. calm down old man. 1 point for caring for the kids enough to not carry on when he found out about the whole human sacrifice thing. also saving joy in s2. y’know what he gets half a point more than mick.
trudy — 4/10
trudy is heartwarming but holy shit is she oblivious. Is Just Ok with “robert smith” being there even when she has no confirmation of his identity. very loyal to the kids and does protect them from a lot of shit. writers did her dirty a lot of the time.
mara — 5/10
ok listen. i don’t dislike mara. i just tend to favor the sibuna mystery storylines, and all of her stories are more realistic scenarios. that being said i love her helping poppy and i also love the sisterhood thing in s3. but also mara why the FUCK would you fall for mick like he’s mick??!?
kt — 7/10
written into hoa way better than on shows like h2o where there’s just one sentence about emma being gone and that’s that. she wasn’t just nina’s replacement, she was her own person. love her personality and her friendship with eddie. 100% a lesbian. only reason she’s so low is cuz no matter how good she is of a replacement character she still kinda is one and i don’t do well with those. i’m working on it.
nina — 8/10
i love nina so much. fabina is so cute together. i think the only reason i have her so low and don’t wanna put her higher is cuz i always hate main characters, even though i don’t hate nina. my mind is strange.
amber — 8/10
dumb blonde stereotype but who cares i love her. provides much comic relief for me especially in s2. ping pong queen. also love her bday episode. ungrateful for alfie at times. also liked mick but it’s a little more understandable cuz Hot Guy cliche. but was also mean to mara about it. but also a lot of that was mick’s fault #blamemick
alfie — 8/10
class clown who’s loyal af. Actually completes amber’s bf trial list. would go through hell for her. always feeling like he has to prove himself to the group but he’s always been an asset. we love him.
willow — 8/10
was such a comfort character when i was little. for some reason rewatching she was less of one. still absolutely so pure of heart and lovable. somebody get this girl a hedgehog.
eddie — 9/10
cool dude™. top notch bf. peddie is one of my fav ships ever. he kinda gets all heroic in s3 but s3 has a whole set of issues. plot twist reveal of his daddy issues. great development while being a great character the whole time.
fabian — 9/10
such a solid dude. guy-falls-for-girl-first trope to the max. he’s awkward and nerdy but not really cocky or annoying. fabian defense squad for life. point off for kissing joy like dude besides the outfit she looks nothing like nina come on.
jerome — 9/10
terrible person at times, but great character. comfort character of mine. his flaws allowed him to be developed throughout the show. he feels very real and human and i love him.
piper - 10/10
obsessed w her cuz i’m also pretty similar to her. both of us go (went) to music school and love patricia. not that i think she’s a BETTER character than a lot of the characters lower on this list, but this is a ranking of my favs so she has to be above them.
joy — 10/10
also a comfort character. i honestly feel most like joy out of all the characters. similar to jerome in that her character flaws lead to richer development. i live for it. was Literally held hostage by her parents and forced into a cult in s1. most of anubis house seemed to just brush that off. that doesn’t excuse her actions, but i love her growth throughout the series. not higher cuz she was kind of a dick to nina for a long while.
patricia — 10000000000+++/10
again i wish there were an infinity symbol. do i even have to say anything? witty and sarcastic and says what’s on her mind. i wish i were eddie cuz i’m in love w her. i know amber’s the one who went to fashion school, but patricia is a style icon. my gay awakening.
What do you think are the strong and weak points in each season? Personally, I think of it like this: S1- Strong points are the first half, but the pacing kind of slows down after Patricia's kidnap and rescue until the last couple of episodes. S2 - the pacing's overall a bit slow, but the writing is solid enough that it doesn't matter. S3 - I really like this season and I think it's too slow, so plots take forever to start, but it's strong points are the premiere and the last five episodes.
Season 1: I feel like when I think of HOA, I think of season 1. It’s what got me hooked, so overall I think it’s really strong both in introducing characters and building a solid mystery arc that always kept me wanting more. I feel like the weak moments are the moments that remind me that this was a Nickelodeon show (the Mara/Mick game show scene, Alfie and Jerome dancing in the ballet costumes, etc.) Obviously it’s a kid’s show so those moments were meant to lighten a pretty dark plot, but they always take me out of the story.
Season 2: This has my favorite mystery plot. The tunnels and the tasks were so fun to watch and I love how they raised the stakes after season 1. I also thought Jerome’s side plot with his dad was really well done. For weaknesses, I think the Fabian/Nina/Joy love triangle went a little too far. I wish Fabina had stayed together longer, or that Fabian actually gave Joy a chance. Joy’s pining and Nina’s sass get annoying after awhile.
Season 3: Season 3 there was a shift where it started feeling like a teen show instead of a kids show and I love that. The second half was incredible and I’m still obsessed with the sinners arc. I also adore Jeroy and love their arc. Its weak point is how choppy it feels, but now we know it’s because they shot block 2 and 3 of this season before block 1. (Alex mentioned this in our interview, I can’t remember if it’s while we were recording or not.)
Curious what other people think too!
House of Locks/House of Eyes
season one, episode 2/3 rewatch
here we start with nina hiding from victor, where she first accidentally falls into the panel
bro the panel is so cool I think the reason little attached to this show so much is bc it’s my dream to go to some super old house and find a bunch of secret pathways and mysteries
aww amber and fabian go to find her, I love the relationship between this trio :,)
fucking love patricia her only reaction to being afraid of being caught with the key is to just yeet it out the window iconic
I have officially decided that during the quarantine I’m gonna learn how to pick locks. both nina and eddie know how to just casually so if I’m ever going to find myself in a british academia situation, it seems thats the classic american skill I need to know
girl don’t just stand in the hallway looking at your locker this is why you almost always get caught
awww jerome and alfie clapping when she comes down, I miss early s1 alfie and jerome duo before jerome got all manipulative and never apologized
ofc she remembered to being smth back loll
bro how does she have good grades? I’m not 100% bc obviously I’ve never been to an english school but like I’m pretty sure their coursework is more intensive, plus like their history classes would be entirely different so like she has so much curriculum to catch up on but she spends all of her time skipping class and in an attic
also is there like lesser punishment to skipping class??? bc they do always be gone and rarely get detention
jerome thinking he’s the lady’s man lmaoooo
“you gotta let me know when you’re gonna change nicknames, I mean, last week you were Captain Spaghetti”” wonderful, love you alfie
I really appreciate how modivated patrica is to find her friend. like when you’re 15/16 kids switch schools all the time esp when you’re not at a public school (this time I do speak from experience) and it sucks but they just become ‘remember that girl we were friends with’ in a couple of weeks bc that’s just the age you are. she’s loyal and dedicated and I like her for it
however breaking into her locker in the most obvious way possible without looking around for teachers was not her smartest move
okay so like most boarding schools (that I’ve looked into anyways) you don’t stay during the weekend unless you have like special permission (events, study for exams,etc) even international students have a a kinda of guardian that has to live in the region of the school for weekends and emergencies) so I wonder who nina’s english guardian is?
fabian isn’t a pushover in this part of the story (“...then I’m coming with you, and that’s all there is to it.”) so the s2 teaching fabian to be more assertive doesn’t really make sense
1) patricia really makes use of that ruler huh 2) I wonder who the first dumbass student was to realize that the girls’ toilets had a little peak away hole into their headmasters office
and also fabian knows about this so it’s well talked about? but not within the whole school bc he couldn’t explain himself to the girl that walked in on him
so maybe it’s just a anubis house, passed down secret?
lmao poor mara in the early episodes, I love her and she’s just wants to help patricia and she hedgehogs, amazing
i’m not saying the only reason to meet in a laundry room at midnight at a boarding school is 17+ but like,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
“i’m a catch!”
i’m still confused why nina had to steal/keep the key at all if she can pick locks
“do you need the torch” “i don’t think setting fire to the place will help us right now” good job nina
poor alfie, instant rejection
awww baby fabina flirting “i won’t tell anyone a painting of a little girl made you scream”
poor amber, she really thinks she got stood up that sucks
alfie has lingerie catalog girls in his locker but he doesn’t really seem like the type? that’s more smth jerome would paste up, alfie would have like aliens and stuff
“i’m not so good at that talking to people thing”
oh it’s painful to watch, mara you have improved so much
also in patricia’s not smartest move: okay so you could take a picture of the number in the office (whatever) but then you could program it in your phone after you looked at it and then just leave the file at the school so it’s not on you??? I’m just saying work smarter not harder
and that’s the episode!!! all in all nice vibes, I really like the feel of early season one with all the nostalgia, the attempts to include pop culture (mostly through twilight mentions) and just the building up of the mystery
House of Anubis Tag
This is long overdue but now I finally have the time lol. Thanks to @houseofanubis-headcanon for tagging me!
Name: Jenna (I don’t think I’ve ever introduced myself on this blog, so heyyy everyone)
Age: 20 (December 13th) I started watching house of Anubis when I was 11 when I was young and naïve and how no idea how long this obsession would last. This is a ridiculous show and I despise that I love it so much but here we are
Favorite Ship (Canon): never been able to get over Fabina. It’s a hella problematic almost always, but I’m a sucker for them in S1. Their friendship is so endearing in that first season (and of course it’s all downhill from there) They had a lot of sweet moments in S2 though. Most of my love for them comes from early 2010s fanfic anyway. Had so many hopes for their growth but of course that wasn’t going to happen
Least Favorite Ship: Mick and Mara, I cannot describe how bored I was watching these two try to decide which one of them thought the other was “so incapable that they couldn’t do (blank) on their own”
Favorite Epsiode: Tie between S2, House of Zodiacs/Reckoning and House of Barriers/Curfews. Both are episodes where a whole lot is going down with every character and I feel like the show was playing a ton with character dynamics. In Zodiacs I loved the stand off between Nina and Victor over the zodiac chart and Amber’s phone call with her dad lol. Meanwhile Jerome is cracking into Jasper’s computer and Patricia and Piper are on the same date. So much going on and I love it. And with Curfews I felt like the show was doing comedy it had never tried before, literally EVERYONE is up all night!!
Least Favorite Episode: whichever episode Fabian writes that poem in, I can’t even bring myself to look up the name because it’s the cringiest thing I have ever seen
Favorite Character: Joy Mercer, queen of character development and going after what she wants. I wish we could have seen more of her post-kidnapping trauma, she clearly has some and i will not be convinced that all of that trauma comes from missing her chance with awkward boy of the century Fabian Rutter
Least Favorite Character: for a long time it was Mara. I found her really boring and I thought she was way too passive. In S1 and 2 her obsession with being a perfect student and then a perfect journalist was more annoying than it was funny. But once she broke out of that shell and started doing more extreme things I liked her a lot more even if her actions were insane
One day this show will release its hold on me, but who knows when that will be. I also have no idea who’s been tagged since this was so long ago, so I’m not going to tag anyone rn. If you wanna be tagged, lmk!
Finally got round to starting Season 3 of House of Anubis, I’ve only watched the first two episodes so far.
Thoughts:
- They really did Nina’s exit dirty and Nina. Like I hate how they had her essentially blank everyone all Summer, like you think that they’d have her stop contact mid or late Summer. Also I hate the reasoning behind it since it contradicts the purpose of The Osirian and The Chosen One - especially when you consider there was no problem at the end of S2 with Eddie and Nina being near each other, or all the times Rufus and Sarah were. At this rate, I wish they pulled a Joy on Nina - it might seem repetitive but have her go missing or some hidden reason for not returning which ties in near the end.
- Not sure what I feel about the newbies. KT is not a bad character but I feel like she’s gonna annoy me and it’s nothing against her, but I tend to find it hard to warm up to characters that you come in and are immediately thrushes as the lead or higher up in the hierarchy than characters that has been their since Day 1 or longer. And I read that she is nothing like Nina, but she was brought in to fit the Nina shaped hole, especially when you consider the mystery surrounding her and the whole key thing which looks set to kick off the big mystery.
- I love Eddie, but I’m still not sure how I feel about the new focus on his as the lead this season, it’s early days but again it’s the same reason as KT - other characters have been there longer and deserve to work their way up.
- Not sure what to make of Willow, I’ve seen the actress in other stuff like Wolfblood and Marine 6, so I know I like her, but her introduction was weird and felt forced because we never see or hear about her then suddenly she’s always hanging around at Anubis House, she’s in their classes and everyone already knows her or speaks like they know her well. So I think her introduction could have been written better. I gather that she was brought in to replace the eventual Amber shaped hole, and you can see why, she appears to be serving the same sort of purpose Amber initially did, which was sorta comedic relief, however you can sorta tell she’s different from Amber, Amber is a leader, a trendsetter, whereas Willow - and I say this nicely - is a sheep, she idiolises Amber, seems desperate to fit in - especially with Anubis House. Amber is a dominant person, Willow isn’t. Also Willow is a different kind of comedic character from the first episode, she seems more kooky, perhaps free spirited kind of comedic relief. Again, early days, I may be wrong.
- Amber without Nina just feels wrong, and I was surprised how I strongly I felt about this watching Amber wake up on her birthday to an empty bed and na Nina.
- I’m kind of worried that Fabian is being push back in the hierarchy of characters since Eddie and KT have seemed to replace him and Nina as the leads. It’s a little sad because I have such a love for the Original Sibuna, the original trio and Patrica and Alfie.
- I did like that Fabian seems to have a spine. Like I love Fabian in S1 and S2, he was that sweet shy geek, but his handling of the Joy/Nina situation got tiresome, his indecisiveness as well as not wanting to hurt anyone, while sweet, he unintentionally made things worse, so I liked that he grew a backbone a bit in the premiere and was fighting for Nina and the truth. (My Fabina heart wishes we saw that side earlier, back when Nathalia was still on the show).
- Season 3 hasn’t immediately grabbed me like the other two seasons have. I really feel Nina’s absence. So far I like Joy, she has chilled out from last season, what is a little sad is that we don’t know if this is because Nina’s gone, like I maintain that we were robbed from Joy/Nina in S3 because I would have liked to see what kind of relationship they’d have after S2. Jara seems nice so far, I like how settle they seemed and Jerome still being Jerome lol. Anything is better than S1 Mara (I just couldn’t with S1 Mara).
AU where instead of Patricia going nuts over Joy’s disappearance, it’s Fabian. He and Joy were on the cusp of dating, after all.
Nina and Patricia form a bond, and instead of Fabian offering his help to Nina, Patricia does, while Fabian overcomes his hesitations to go snooping around for clues as to where his crush and best friend went and why the teachers are so keen to stop him from doing so.
In this AU, there’s no Fabina— the couples are Jabian and Patrina/Peddie. Fabian and Patricia keep their own personalities, so it’s not a total swap. Imagining instead of Fabian’s gentle encouragement, it’s just Patricia being like “Um, hell no you’re not giving up (don’t please, you’re so sexy haha)”. And instead of Patricia’s brash approach to questioning the teachers, Fabian approaches with less emotion and more tact. Also, Fabian manages to escape Rufus all on his own, because he doesn’t wait after trying to knock him out.
Patricia bodies Rufus into the next century in the classroom during the finale and nearly kills them all when the hourglass of sandflies goes flying with him. She just really doesn’t want her girlfriend getting dragged off, thanks. However, everything goes down pretty much the same in the final confrontation with Rufus.
Joy and Fabian reunite at the ball, sobbing together, and Amber names them prom king and queen.
“But I’m just in jeans and a jacket!”
“You still look like a queen to me.”
They share their first kiss, which then gives Nina the confidence to grab Patricia’s face and just slam them together in the middle of everyone.
In S2, Nina and Patricia hit the awkward best friend vs girlfriends problem same as Fabina did, and Patricia sticks her foot in her mouth by jumping the gun same as Fabian. Cue very awkward Patrina breakup.
And then Eddie arrives, and immediately the Peddie dynamic begins. And Nina is pissed. Who the hell does this guy think he is? At least Patricia seems unimpressed... wait why is she smiling? Oh god, they have everything in common!
Joy sees what’s going down and she and Fabian—one very happy, cute couple—try their best to console her. Meanwhile, Patricia is battling with her feelings for Nina and her budding feelings for Eddie.
Nina and Eddie engage in increasingly ridiculous antics to win her affections, and Patricia is stressed. Amber steps in to try and help and naturally only makes things worse.
As much as she likes Eddie, though, ultimately Patricia couldn’t manage to give her heart to Eddie completely, not when she hadn’t moved on from Nina, and Nina hadn’t moved on at all from her. And once Eddie finds out he’s the Osirian, he understands that he has to protect Nina— that includes protecting her from heartache.
“I can’t believe I had two divine champions of good pining after me”
“Shut up, Patricia.”
Nina still ultimately leaves in Season 3, because we’re only changing that one thing, people, but this time, she tells Patricia about it not over a stupid letter. They have a tearful, heartfelt goodbye over the summer while Patricia visits her in America, and Nina let’s her go with: “You’ll always be my first love, Patricia.”
Throughout Season 3, Patricia and Eddie grow closer again romantically, and in the finale they get together as the start of a new beginning.
alternate universe: the anubis kids never go to boarding school, how would you picture them meeting? how would the couples get together (esp peddie and fabina/nina&amber [whichever you want] since they're like oceans away) ? would they even meet as teens or when they're older?
ok i’m just going to do this as a no-magic/mystery au because the logistics of s3 make my head hurt otherwise lol
I think it’s safe to assume patricia&joy live near-ish to each other, as do (from 3x01) mara&jerome. given alfie’s parent’s familiarities with jerome + the fact they offered him an (presumably in-person) internship, we can also assume alfie&jerome also live near each other. at the very least, we know mara jerome and alfie are all within a days travel to the school because their parents have come/they’ve visited their parents while in school.
anyways maybe the twins and alfie (and maybe the others) get put in the same baby music class and their moms become friends while palfie gets in trouble for something or the other and that’s where that friendship starts as well. so that’s how these 5 end up meeting and becoming friends although probably not as close as a group as they were in the house just cuz they’re not all at the same school or same area. basically they’re all family friends at first but grow closer over time.
mick and amber probably get sent to some fancy school by their dads at around age 11/12 and fabian and mara are there on scholarship and somehow the four of them become friends due to seating arrangements/tutoring time/screw stereotypes. mara introduces them to the others at some point, the guys immediately invite mick and fabian into their group and while the girls take a little while to warm up to each other, they’re all good friends by the time they go off to uni.
mick actually goes to UCLA for that sports program thing the summer after s2 in canon (cuz he’s not switching trainers randomly this time and actually gets in) but books his flight so he first goes to newark before LAX. meanwhile eddie and his mom are on the same flight for a vacation and they sit next to each other. (ms miller originally had the middle seat but eddie actually gives up his window halfway through the flight so he and mick can chat while she sleeps.) mick ends up tagging along to the rest of their vacation after his program is over. however mick probably doesn’t introduce eddie to the others (although he talks about him constantly) because, you know, the ocean. they may all friend each other on chumchatter though
meanwhile, the premise of this is the same (minus the mystery). nina and kt meet at the hospital or something and become friends. i can’t think of a situation where kt and/or nina meet eddie before someone else in the group (amber?) introduces them but maybe that happens idk.
nina and amber are easy—amber will still end up in fashion school in new york (less forcefully this time); nina’ll probably be near/in nyc for uni because she’ll still want to pursue something creative (i say screenplay writer, another popular hc is author) and it’s fairly close-ish to her gran (same time zone at least). so they’ll bump into each other there, although honestly without school to force them near each other all the time, they may not even become close until they both become super famous in their respective worlds and start seeing each other at events and such, and i’m not sure if they’ll ever develop past just being besties. which is absolutely fine because their friendship is my favorite thing in the world anyway 🥰
if namber doesn’t happen, fabina may have a chance—amber introduces them, they discover a mutual interest in ancient history, and since they’re adults with proper communication skills, everything works out.
peddie is a little weird. i assume eddie will still get sent to the uk to visit his dad before what was s2 in-canon and they may bump into each other there, esp if sweet decides to take eddie sightseeing or something (idk how far away patricia lives from the school and stuff). or maybe he comes a little later, visits mick, and him and patricia meet then, although it’s probably too short of a time for patricia to actually catch feelings. i think it’ll be more likely that patricia goes to the US either for grad school or maybe to see her world-renowned sister perform at carnegie or something like that. either way, she ends dragged to a club one night and stays in her own corner ppl-watching and eddie’s there and (of his own volition, no bets involved) he’s like “you’re the only one not dancing” and that’s where it starts.
Finished S3 of House of Anubis:
Thoughts:
- The season was not as bad, I think I still prefer S1 & S2, not because the originals are in it (i.e. Nina and Amber) but for me in S3 the pacing lagged a bit, it had a rough beginning (the adjustment period of Nina’s exit) but I enjoyed the Descendents bit and the 5 sinners bit. But at times the pacing lagging in between. Whereas S1 & S2, I didn’t feel that way, I was hooked and binging.
- Walfie are cute, I still prefer Amfie though. I know Willow and Alfie are the healthier couple and will more likely work in the long run, but I find Amber and Alfie more entertaining to watch as a fan. The writers put less effort into Willow and Alfie than they did with Willow/Jerome so that’s a shame. Walfie is that couple that I’d want if this was real life, but Amfie I just find more entertaining.
- This season made me really dislike Peddie. And Patricia deserved better. So I loved Peddie in S2, not as much as Fabina, I think that will always be my #1, but I enjoyed them and got why fans like them. Then in S3, they just ruined them, had them break up for no reason and even when they were together they never felt like a couple. And I hated how Patricia - an original character was relegated to a love interest/damsel in distress for most of the season. Like that was her arc for the season. In S2, Peddie was probably more about Patricia, then in S3 it was all about Eddie. Not Patricia. And I honestly just think they split them up so KT could have most of her scenes with Eddie and Peddie splitting up would explain why Eddie isn’t with Patricia or confiding in her all the time.
- So Fabian becoming a Sinner was pure dumbass Fabian, but Sinner Fabian was great. I think out of all the Sibuna Sinners, Brad and Alex really killed it at being evil whereas with Jade, it didn’t feel as natural. Like Jade has vastly improved her acting since S1 but Sinner!Patricia for me exposed some of her weaknesses. I didn’t feel as if it played to her strengths.
- I think I ship Jeroy? Honestly I will probably ship Jara and Jeroy but boy did they make a mess of it. I think it’s a shame how they ruined Jara so quickly in order for Jeroy and considering how they spent 2 seasons building Jara up, you’d think they wouldn’t split them up until the end of the season or the next if there was one. And it be done without the cheating. As for Jeroy they could have dedicated more time to them. For me that storyline felt a bit quick and would have liked that to take up most the season.
- Mabian? Wtf? I’m not gonna attack folks if they ship it. Because on paper they should work. However, that scene, hinting at them felt forced as fuck. Now there is a scenario where they could work, if there was more of a build. But it just makes no sense. Obviously since everyone lives together, we are told they all are friends and have a friendship with each other - but you need evidence if you are gonna sell characters as a couple or as best friends. Across the 3 seasons Mara and Fabian have shared the least scenes together. You could have at least this season shown more of a friendship together. It’s like how at the beginning of S3 everyone is like Fabian and Eddie are best friends - there was no evidence of that in S2.
- Also I think Mabian are one of those couples that would work (with better writing and not rushed and random), but not for the long term, I think they are too similar. Like I think they’d be that couple that would transition into friends without realising it.
- KT needs to chill out. She literally took everything like a personal attack. Like when Eddie thought she was a Sinner because he saw her be turned and no one knew she had the key. She at times just constantly looked like someone hurt her personally. Comparing her to Nina, since she did come in to fill the Nina hole. — She was definitely a better actress that Nathalia, but to me she wasn’t one of the strongest and had some weak spots. There were times I enjoyed her and times where she just had pure dumbass energy about her.
Can’t think of anything else to add. If anyone wants to discuss, agree or disagree - send an Anon or whatever. I need HoA mutuals.
So finally finished season 2 of House of Anubis and feel dead on the inside, just because I know Nina isn’t in S3, we don’t get anymore Fabina and I know Amber leaves.
So, thoughts:
- When I originally watched S2, I only watched the first half and I really came to dislike Joy because of the love triangle and it killed me because I loved Klariza in Dani’s House and I remembered her in Skins. However, this time round I came to enjoy her. I think young me would still not like her, but adult me, I loved how when she wrote that horrible article about my baby Nina and was like I just want her gone - it sounded immature and spiteful but having her POV when no one was looking really added layers to Joy as a character. Which I think was important because Joy wasn’t really a character in S1 while she was one, so she lacked the opportunity for development like the rest did.
- Also I think the whole Joy storyline should have been explored more earlier, like everyone went through a lot in S1, however what Sibuna went through was way different to what Joy went through so they were forced to grow up and mature as they became responsible for these tasks. Meanwhile Joy she was kind of sheltered from it when she was kidnapped, she never saw the struggle. That doesn’t make what she went through any less but she didn’t have to grow up and develop like Sibuna did - especially when it turned out that she wasn’t The Chosen One - So I think she expected things to go back to normal and move on, especially since no one really wanted to talk about it with her.
- And I think once Patricia became involved with Sibuna again, it only made the situation worse, she truly had no one that knew what she went through since Mara was blissfully unaware and Patricia had to focus on the Mask of Anubis.
- In my last HoA post, I mentioned my complaint about Jerome not being in Sibuna. I still stand by that. I’m happy he got more involved by the end, and he did catch wind of Alfie even if they denied it. However, him not being in Sibuna still doesn’t make sense, considering how he was in S1 about wanting to be part of the gang, he wanted his best mate etc. And if they wanted him out of Sibuna, there should have been a scene or explanation about him leaving Sibuna or not being part of it. Especially since when S2 started, Sibuna wasn’t what it was in S1, there was no mystery and it was just friends having fun, being a gang etc. When Patricia and Alfie got brought in, Jerome should have as well and they could have done a scene where he rejects getting involved because of Poppy and his dad etc.
- I loved Eddie this time round, I remember the first time finding him annoying, it wasn’t the actor but I think I was like Patricia, going “oh not another American.” Because I find in British shows their accent stands out and they sound too American. But this time I enjoyed him. Also grew to like Peddie.
- I do feel like the Osirian stuff was rushed, would have liked a nice build up, like I wouldn’t mind them pulling a S1 with Fabian/Eddie, also the fallout with Eddie would have been great - and I read the spoilers about The Chosen One And Osirian can’t be together or near each other, which as a mythology rule makes no sense - especially with how it’s built up in S2 by Victor Senior.
- Also I think I multiship with Mara, because in my rewatch of S1, my opinion of Mara stayed the same, she really annoyed me, the Mick/Mara/Amber stuff was one reason, like my take on Mara is that she’s that good girl on a pedestal but hides this shady side that even she doesn’t know about it, because she was trying to get with Mick while he was with Amber but it about to hide it under pretences - but I genuinely think she’s trying to do what’s best, to not hurt anyone but I think she made it worse by not being openly honest. Anyway, in S2, Mara I loved way more, as a character she felt more subdued as a goody two shoes, she was still one, but it felt less fake and I thought Tasie was a better actress in S2, also I found myself enjoying Mickara more in the little we got from S2, they were written better than in S1 ironically, considering Mick left early on and returned by the end. Also Jara were great, I liked it in S1 as it added a layer to Jerome but also enjoyed it here. And in the last episode, I was rooting for Mickara and then Jara.
- I love Amber and Alfie, like I’m fully aware that the first half of S2 is not a healthy relationship and Amber treated Alfie awful, but it was entertaining to watch, plus I love Alfie discovering his self worth through this and Sibuna and then the roles reversing at the end of the evening with Amber. I just love the dynamic of them.
- Bobby being credited for the whole season is a joke. I know he left HoA at the end of S2 for Wolfblood, but wonder for the reason in S2, because I never loved or hated Mick in S1, but I would have liked to see more of him in S2, like the beginning of S2, I was like “see ya, not gonna miss ya” but when he returned at the end of S2, I actually missed him and felt he was wasted in S2 and the last few episodes.
- The S2 finale just highlights how big of a shame it was that Nathalia didn’t return. It would have been nice to see Joy and Nina form a friendship or frenemy relationship after this season. That would have been a natural direction, while also furthering Joy and the stuff she went through in S1. Then Eddie/Nina is another one, since you don’t really see a friendship between them in S2, so it would have been fun to see that friendship especially with Patricia and Fabian, since Patricia is Patricia and Fabian has always been the closest to Nina. And of course the Fabina stuff, since we never really see them be a couple. I was robbed.
- Only other thought I can think of is that the acting improved A LOT in S2. The stand out is Patricia with Jade Ramsay, I just remember in S1 thinking at the beginning when she was upset at Joy at the police station, I thought the acting was poor and a lot of overacting. And when she was mean to Nina and bullying her, her acting and voice out on felt quite caricature mean girl, like voice acting. But I’m S2, from episode 1, it felt natural and improved. Nina and Nathalia was another weak link in S1, and in the beginning of S2, it was improved but there were some weak moments, but by the end of the season, maybe even the middle she improved. Like I said, the whole cast improved, Tasie is another one mentioned, but the ones I’ve gone into detail I felt were the biggest weaknesses in S1 and who improved.
So I finally got round to episodes 7 and 8 of S3 of HOA - and for the first time I actually was enjoying it this season. It feels like it’s starting to come together.
I still think the Nina shaped hole will always be there, but this was the first time this season that I felt like the mystery plot and Sibuna can distract you from the lack of Nina.
I should stress, that Nathalia wasn’t the strongest actor in her two seasons, but because she’s a lead and was very much the audience’s spectator into the show, it still a huge adjustment to take. Thankfully, the writing so far doesn’t seem to be bad to make it noticeable.
For me the moment where I realised I was enjoying this was when Sibuna went to the Gatehouse and Amber got left behind and was in that secret room trapped. It really felt like classic HoA where the tensions felt high and there were stakes.
The Eddie and KT part still felt weak to me, even though I know that Eddie/KT and Sibuna is bound to come together, I just found it weak to me and frustrating at them keeping secrets from Sibuna when they know they must be on the same track as them — especially when Eddie learned about Sweetie’s past as being in that secret society, like he doesn’t even bother to ask Sibuna for details, I know he’s mad that he wasn’t told before but it could have helped?
The Jabian stuff was a mess. Like it needed to be done for Joy to move on, I supppse. And I suppose to properly end Jabian as a possible romantic relationship. But it could have been handled better, because Joy should know that Fabian hasn’t gotten over Nina - Nina was his first love and she witnessed the bond they had even when they broke up - So even if Fabian said yes, them dating so soon after Fabina, Joy would be seen as the rebound which is not what she wants. Also her friends should have noticed this, as witnesses of Fabina.
Not sure how I feel about Joy being out of Sibuna, like I fully support it if it was about her safety or schoolwork, but the fact that privately to Patricia she makes it about Fabian feels misguided to me. Like I fully support that for her happiness she needs distance from Fabian to get over him, but at the same time (this is probably the feminist in me) I don’t like how she is using a guy as a reason to leave Sibuna since Patricia said she loves the mystery etc (which we never really saw in S1&S2, but I digress) and she really wanted to be part of Sibuna last season for her to so easily quit.
Like I wish they could have had it so Joy is like a passive part of Sibuna, part of the ‘research’ side, so she doesn’t have to do the active stuff necessarily but she’d help with research, puzzles etc or she helps when they need it, like say if they aren’t in class, Joy could cover for them and because she’s distant from Sibuna she wouldn’t be suspected as much as say if it was Patricia covering for Sibuna.
I kind of like Jara, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been shipping them S1 and S2 because Mara brought out that side of Jerome that gives him depth as a character. But this season, with the dynamic they have been given by the writers, they have kind of replaced Amfie, as that comedic couple. I think this episode was the first time you see clinks in their relationship, Jerome doesn’t want Mara to see him as useless, he doesn’t think he’s worthy of Mara and the way he went about it, sabotaging his girlfriend’s business project is a big no anc is gonna cause problems. But I liked the way it was handled. Like he could have just stole those bars but he paid for them and ate them - it was sort of innocent and devious, I’m aware of the oxymoron lol. But it was done in a way that you can’t really be mad at Jerome about it, plus he got karma as he ate too much lol.
Final Thought: I still don’t get how they messed up Peddie so much, like they were my pleasant surprise in S2, I got behind them. Now I’m S3, I just don’t care anymore. Like there’s a lack of angst. It’s like they hastily wrote it off and tried to bury it quietly.
