Chapter 10 (excerpt)

Notes: Today, Anastasia meets the girls for the first time. She is hanging out with them and doing a “dry run”. Hakkai shows up. Posting this is a bit of a spoiler. But so was the Draken chapter. I want to post things here but you’re also seeing bits of the story that you probably shouldn’t be seeing yet. :) But oh well…I mean what’re ya gonna do, y’know? So, I hope if anyone reads this that they enjoy it. The year is 2011. Anastasia is 22, Mitsuya is 20, Hakkai is 19, Luna is 13 and Mana is 11. Long periods of italicized text represent character’s thoughts.

Taking his apron off, he hung it by the kitchen door on the hook and walked back out into the living room to see what the girls were up to. What the hell? Panic struck his heart. Cold black icy panic. They were gone. Where are they?!? “Lunaaaaa! Manaaaaaa!! Anastasiaaaa!” What’s going on here? Where are they? He rushes towards the door only to have it swung open, narrowly missing his face. “Oh shit! Sorry, Taka-chan!” He starts laughing.

“Hakkai?! What are you doing here?” He lowers his voice a tad. “I specifically told you not to come over today because I was going to be interviewing people for the Nanny job.”

Hakkai looks back over his shoulder to where Anastasia and the two girls are playing hopscotch on the sidewalk and points his thumb behind him. “Yeah… “interviewing” huh? Isn’t that the girl that broke yer heart at the fashion show? What’s she doing here?”

He said it a bit gruffly. Mitsuya had to smile. Hakkai gets more upset for me than even I get upset, he thinks to himself and rolls his eyes. “Hakkaiiiiii, you gotta let the things that happen in my life go. I’m a big boy, y’know? I can take care of myself, ok?” “Yeah, well, that’s all fine and good”, he mumbles, “but anyone ever hurts you, I’ll kill ‘em”.

Mitsuya could only make out the words ‘hurt’, ‘you’ and ‘kill’ but the meaning of his words were very clear. “Violence is not the answerrrr, Hakkai. You know that.” “Jussayin is all. Somebody’s gotta watch yer back…especially now that yer basically out of Toman”. Some hurt comes to his face.

“Hey, Hakk, buddy, look…we talked about this, remember? I need to do this. For the girls, for Draken, for me. It doesn’t mean I love any of you guys any less, I just needed to break away for my family’s sake.”

“Yeah, but you have to leave your other family in order to do it”. “Hakkai, I didn’t LEAVE you guys. I mean not really. I’m right here! And I’m not going anywhere, ok?”

He puts his arm around Hakkai’s back, hanging his hand on his shoulder (Hakkai is way too tall for Mitsuya to do anything else) and walks out towards the girls. “Hey, there you guys are! I didn’t know where you went. Heh heh…” He shoots a little look over at Anastasia. She mouths the word ‘sorry’ and shrugs.

“Kashi, stop worrying all the time, we’re fine. Anastasia’s here with us. You don’t have to be so stressed about us all the time. I’m thirteeennn!” “Ok, I know that. But you also know our rules, right? And they arrrre…?” He crosses his arms and waits for them to repeat the directive… “Don’t go anywhere unless we ask or tell you first.” Luna repeats the rule with exaggerated eyerolls. “I know, but…”

“I can’t really be mad at Anastasia because she didn’t know our rule, yet. But now she does so I’m sure it won’t happen again. “See? This is what I’m talkin about, Stasia.” Mitsuya turns wide-eyed. “This is what you’re talking about, huh? Come here you little urchin”, she screams and runs behind Hakkai. “Save me Hawky-san!” 

“Soooo, not only are you guys on a nickname basis with each other already, after just a coupla hours by the way, but now you’re sharin secrets?! Wow…well, ok. It looks like I’m no longer needed here. Come on Hakkai, let’s go grab a beer.” “Yosssh! I’m down”, he says and they start to walk away down the sidewalk.

“Noooo, Kashiii! I was just joking!” When he hears the little tremble at the end of the word, he turns around, his heart breaking. “Aww, come here my little kawaii on’nanoko”. “Oniichannnn!”, she yells and runs to him and buries her face in his chest.

“Hey, I was just messin with you. We would never leave you, right Hakkai?” Hakkai vigorously shakes his head. “You know you’re pretty lucky to have not just one amazing brother, but you have Hakkai, too”. “Hey!”, he shouts and punches Mitsuya in the arm. “Ow! Fucker!” He punches him back.

Mana, who is watching the whole thing with a goofy grin on her face starts repeating very loudly, “Fucker! Fucker! Fuuuucckerrr!” “Shit! Sorry, Mana. Taka shouldn’t have said that.” He shoots a death stare at Hakkai. “Shit! Shit! Shit!” Now she’s laughing. “Ugh, I can’t win with these guys”, he facepalms and looks to Anastasia for help again.

She crinkles up her nose in thought and when the idea comes she holds up her finger, as if to say, ‘Aha!’ “Oh Mana! I forgot I had a surprise for you inside. Let’s go see it, ok?” “Ooooh! Yay! I can’t wait.” And they run off inside together. The other three follow closely behind her.

Suddenly, Mitsuya stops, he puts an arm out in front of Hakkai to keep him from moving forward and lets Luna continue on in the house, running after Mana and Anastasia. He looks over at his friend.

“Soooo, I can’t help but notice you’re still here, Hakkai”. He gives him a look. “Ok, yeah, so I know you said not to come today but in my defense I didn’t know she’d still be here for dinner. I mean, what the fuck? Is she moving in or something?” A clear twinge of jealousy ripples across his surface.

“Stop, Hakkai, she’s not moving in and she’s not taking me away from you”. He rolls his eyes. “Things have just been going really…well and so I just let things progress to see how they turned out. This is all a dry-run for her. A test…” “Well, did she pass?”

“Oh, yeah. I can’t imagine anyone more perfect, um, for this position.” He can’t deny the slight blush on his cheeks and Hakkai definitely notices it. “Well, what about me?? I’m perfect too, right, Taka-chan?”

He gives Mitsuya his best puppy dog eyes, trying to cover up his hurt. Mitsuya praises him, and tells him that, yes, he is perfect and it’s as if all the lights in the city had been turned on at once right beneath his surface. He's just like Luna in that way, he thought to himself. “We REALLY need to find you a girlfriend tho, my friend. You’re too beautiful to be single.”

“Well, I agree but…”, he can’t say it out loud. “I’m sorry if I’m being annoying or clingy, Taka-chan.” He hung his head in shame and hurt. “Hakkaaaaiiiii…”

He looked up and Mitsuya was right there. He blushed slightly as much as he tried to keep it from happening and Mitsuya embraced him. “You’re my brother... Will I ever leave those two girls?” “No.” “Then, will I ever leave you?” “No, I guess not.” “And beyond that, you’re also my best friend. That’s for life. I’m just saying that you need someone else in your life that loves you as much as I do. More, actually.” “Ok…”, he says and a smile slowly creeps back onto his face.

And then boom, just like that he picks back up with his typical manic self. “I basically just want to find a girl version of you tho, Mitsuya.” “Hakkaaaiii….”, he corrects mildly and shakes his head. “She’d be pretty ugly, don’t ya think?” “Taka-CHAN! You shouldn’t say such things about yourself. You’re the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen! Women would love to look as beautiful as you…” “Oh yeah? Well, what about you, Mr. Model?” He blushes again.

“Yeah, well, obviously I’m not pretty enough or I’d be winning hearts left and right. “Noooo, we’ve been over this a thousand times, Hakkai. You’ll never find someone if you spend all your time here with us. You gotta get out there and meet people, talk to them, engage in conversations…” “You know I can’t talk to girls tho, Taka-chan. I freeze up, man. I don’t know what it is…” “Ok…”

He knows he has to tread lightly here. “Well, what about boys, then?” An offended gasp is heard. “Nooo, I don’t like boys. Well, except maybe one…” He turns scarlet.

“Ok…” Mitsuya knows who they are talking about now. “And does that boy feel the same about you?” “I…I…I don’t think so. But I keep hoping he will”. “Well… Maybe, you’re barking up the wrong tree with that one?” “Maybe… but I love him so much.” He’s back to scarlet.

“I know you do, I know…” He puts his hand on Hakkai’s shoulder. “…and he’d be lucky to have you. You are amazing, Hakkai. You just need to find someone who sees you the way you see m-uh-him. Right?” “Ok, but again, I can’t talk to girls and there isn’t anyone out there who sees me like that. No one ever could.”

“But, you don’t know that, Hakkai!”, he said with a bit more frustration than he should’ve had. “Because you’ve never really tried to find them. Plus, you were talkin just fine to Anastasia…” “That’s different.” “Why is it different? She’s a girl…” “I dunno, Taka… Maybe because she’s yours and cuz you expect me too.” “Hey, she’s not mine or anything, Hakk”. A flutter flies through his body at the thought, though.

“Well, whatever. She might as well be. I already know she will be.” “How could you possibly know that, Hakkai? We might as well have just met…” “I can just tell, Takaaa. Plus, I know because it’s YOU. You’re amazing and charming and reeeally good-looking and smart, I mean, come onnn, do I have to keep going here? No one can resist you, man.” “Uhhhh, I beg to differ… seeing as I’ve only been in one serious relationship and it didn’t even last 6 months. Nothin to write home about, in the end… Unless it was about how awful it was. Ugh….”

“Yeah, but that’s just more of why you’re so amazing. You put everybody else’s desires and needs ahead of your own. You sacrificed what youneeded in life to take care of everyone else… Luna, Mana, Me… And so you never even gave yourself the time or opportunity to get close to anyone.” “Well, ok…yeah, but…” “But, nothing. You are amazing! And you don’t see it for some strange reason.”

“Hey, wait a minute! How did this turn into something about me? We’re talking about YOU and how you need to meet a girl.” Hakkai rolls his eyes and sighs loudly. “Come on. You need to at least try, Hakkai. Try and talk to someone, anyone.” “Why? People are stupid. None of them hold a candle to you”. “Hakkaiiiii! Oh my God, I’m going to smack you!”, he says and shakes his head.

Oh boy… I’ve really let this go on for far too long, haven’t I?, he thinks to himself. I’m gonna end up having to really hurt his heart in order to get him to move on with his life and I REALLY don’t want to do that. Especially after all the progress he’s made…all the work I put into helping him grow. This is going to be brutal. He tries to push it aside and turns to Hakkai again.

“Ok, look you can join us for dinner but then you have to go home, ok?” “Fine! You don’t have to be so mean, Taka-chan!” Mitsuya chuckles. “I’m establishing boundaries, Hakkai. I’m not being mean…” Yet, he thinks and drops his head. They walk into the house.

a/n: thank you for requesting draken!! i haven't written for him in so long i miss this big sweet man so much!!!

draken skids to a stop halfway out out his front door to avoid colliding with you. he gives you a confused look, holding your shoulders to stabilize you after almost knocking you off balance.

"what are you doing here??" he asks, cupping your cheek. his first fear is that something is wrong. it's not like he isn't happy to see you, but you showing up on his doorstep on a morning you knew he was going in to the shop makes him worry.

"i came to see you," you say so sweetly he feels like he could melt. he wraps you in his arms, kissing your forehead.

"that's really sweet, baby," he grins. "but i'm leaving for work.

shaking your head, you cheerfully inform him that he doesn't have work today.

"i have work everyday," he responds slowly.

"but not today. i told inui you weren't going today."

"YOU DID WHAT?!"

"no, please don't get upset, okay?" you pout at him. he crosses his arms, eyes narrowing. "i called last night and told inui you weren't feeling well," you explain, lowering your eyes to the ground. "because you've been so stressed out lately and i knew you wouldn't take a day off so... i just thought it would be nice to relax. we can spend the day together."

draken lets out a sigh. the last few weeks had been rough. work was insane, there was so much to be done, and draken was the type to put everything on himself. and he knew you were right: he wouldn't have taken a day off on his own.

"c'mere," he pulls you back into his arms.

"you're not mad?" you squeak.

"no," his body shakes with a laugh. "i'm lucky i've got you looking out for me. inui will be fine today, right?"

"good," he smiles. "then let's have a day just for us."

"Hurry up!" He yells at you with an annoyed expression on his face.

"I am, I am. God stop rushing me," you say back to him.

"Well you're the one who forced me to go with you," he says leaning forward on his bike, waiting for you.

"Aww, c'mon Ken, you know you love spending time with me," you say, throwing on a charming face.

"Yeah whatever lets go," Draken muses, rolling his eyes.

"How do I look?", you pose for him.

"Like shit, now c'mon,"

"So romantic," you say, patting his head.

You ride on the back of his bike for about 10 minutes before coming to a stop.

You hop off, excitedly pulling his hand along with you.

"What's so cool about the Tokyo Shopping Center anyways?" He asked.

"What do you mean what's so cool? There's so much to do here. You can go to a stand and buy some nice desserts, buy clothes for low prices, play street games…" you ramble on.

But your voice is cut off to him as he watches you talk, letting out a small smile when he takes notice of your large grin.

But the smile decapitates when you look back up at him. 

He always puts up a front around you, acting like you're a pain, but in reality he enjoys every moment of time you two spend together.

You watch his smile turn into a scowl as you reach up and poke his face.

"Ken you're such a tsundere♡" you laugh out.

He slaps your hand away, glaring at you harshly.

"Don't call me that weird shit, you freak," he says as you pull his hand along the market sidewalks.

You two first stop at a game stand.

Draken gives the man a dollar and aims at the target with a slingshot.

He lets go, and the ball shoots right past the target, not even a foot close to the bullseye.

You and the stand owner burst out laughing. 

"Damn kid, you might just win a prize for worst shot ever," the owner laughs even harder.

"Shut up, this shit is rigged," Draken says.

As he says that, you put a dollar in the man's hand, and you pick up the ball, adjust your aim in the sling

You let go, for the small ball to hit directly in the center.

Draken rolls his eyes, mumbling something about luck.

You pick up a pink teddy bear from off the winners shelf and walk over to Draken.

"Here you go princess," you offer him the teddy bear.

He lets out a small 'tch' before snatching the bear from your hand and walking away from the stand.

You wave goodbye to the owner before catching up with Draken.

"Where to next?" He asks, already seeming eager to leave.

"Ah, Mitsuya's shop!" You say grabbing his hand dragging him along.

You two enter the shop hand in hand as you look around.

You walk along the shop before going to the back, knowing he wouldn't mind since you two are like family.

You let go of Draken's and you walk up to Mitsuya, hugging him from behind.

"Takashi," you greet.

He flinches, not noticing you, and turns around returning your hug.

"Oh, I didn't see y'all there," he says waving at Draken.

"Anything I can get for you?" He asks.

"I want a dress," you smile.

"Hmm, I guess I'll just pick out whatever looks best on you," Mitsuya says, going to the front of the shop.

You and Draken sit down on a bench, as he pulls out his phone to pick up a call.

You hear short brief answers, almost as if he's rushing to get off the phone.

"No, I'm with my girl right now," he says.

The response catches you off guard, yet he doesn't even bat an eye, almost like it's so natural to him.

You turn away, hiding your red face from him.

'Shut up Y/n, you're acting like a child right now'

You're pulled from your thoughts when Mitsuya calls for you. He gives you 4 dresses and points to the fitting room.

You try them all on, and decide you like the red one the most.

You step out and show Mitsuya, who smiles like a proud father, you take a step to go show Draken but Mitsuya pulls you back.

He drags you along and into another room, where he grabs you some heels and lipstick.

"Why don't you surprise him huh?" He muses.

You grin along with him and apply your lipstick while throwing on the stilettos. You push your hair behind your shoulders and walk out, heels clacking with each step.

All whilst Mitsuya just sits down and takes a moment to relax.

"Draken," you call out.

"Yeah, hold on," he tells his friend on the phone, turning around to look at you.

His jaw slightly drops and his eyes widen upon your arrival.

He quickly turns back around, hanging up the phone.

"You look pretty, or whatever," Draken says with his head in his hands, hiding his bright red face.

"Thank you," you laugh.

'First time I've seen him rendered speechless,' you think to yourself.

Mitsuya stands up.

"So Y/n what do you-" 

"We'll take it," Draken blurts out, making you and Mitsuya turn their heads.

"I mean, uh, she'll take it," he deadpans.

Draken pulls out his wallet.

"You guys are family, just take it," Mitsuya says.

"Shut up," Draken says, putting $250 down on the register top.

"Well I can never refuse money," you and Draken laugh at his antics.

You quickly undress and get back into your previous clothes. 

Afterwards you and him leave the store wishing a farewell and parting ways.

You and him walk the streets, stopping to go into any store you deem interesting. After about 2 hours, you grow hungry.

So, you and Draken stop at a food place , where they serve already made bento boxes. 

You two eat your meals in peace, enjoying the silence.

"It's starting to get dark," you say.

"Yeah," he replies curtly.

"I had fun," you smile.

He stops and takes a moment to admire it, deciding he nevers wants it to not adorn your face, before saying-

“Mhm. I want this” he said as he gave you a wide smile.

“Are you really sure about this” you asked as you set up bleach, silver dye and clippers on the table.

“Daijobu da (Y/N). You don’t have to do it if you’re that worried” he said looking into the mirror of the vanity the two of you dragged out into the living room.

“I’m sure about this Mitsuya. I just want to be clear if this is what you want… Having a slit on one eyebrow would make you look cool, but both?” you asked with a sigh while bending down to wrap the sheet around him.

“It’ll make me look double cool” he said with a thumbs up.

“Hai Hai. Can’t wait for Takashi san to start picking up girls who would rather ride him than their bikes” you said in a dead voice.

“Don’t move” you said as you brought the clipper close to his eyebrow.

“Matte!” he said as his eyes suddenly opened after closing. In shock, you switched of the clippers and dropped it onto his lap.

“What?!” you shrieked as you fell back on your rear.

���Use tape. Make a slit between it and shave. You'll ruin my eyebrow with a clipper” he said with a pout. Thinking about it for a bit, you smirked as an idea went through your head. Mitsuya glared at you. As if he knew what you were thinking, he said “If you rip the tape off, and make me bald faced, No ice cream for you over a week”

“I didn’t even say anything” you whined.

“But you were thinking it. Dewa, hajimemashou” he said with a mocking voice.

“Of course. I chose it” he said as he ran a hand through his hair and tilted his face to the side to get a better view.

“Have you ever thought about designing or getting into the model industry if you ever decide to drop out of Toman Mitsuya? I know that it is important to you and you are one of the founding members… but hypothetically, if it ever ceased to exist, would you do it?” you asked in a low tone, trying to not upset him.

“Maa.. na? I am the president of the sewing club in school… and I have made some things here and there… but I’ve never given it that much of a thought when I’m around the gang… At some point I know that the two would come to a point where I would have to choose either a career that make me live in society or stay out of it but live with dignity of having the highest loyalty and commitment, but in the shadows of crime. Can’t say… maybe I’ll just wait and see what happens” he said as he splashed a handful of water in his face, bending over the sink as he turned away from the mirror, stopping the conversation.

Reaching behind him, you hugged him close to you, feeling his back against your chest while nuzzling into the center of it.

“I’m sure you’ll make a good decision when it comes down it. And whatever you choose, I’ll support you no matter what” you said.

Rubbing his palms over your hands that secured his torso, he said “Arigato”

Turning around to face he caressed your face with hands.

“Even if I choose to be in a gang?” he asked as his lilac eyes searched yours for an answer.

“I believe people have their own reasons for making their decision Mitsuya. If you chose to side with Toman, you have a reason for it and I would understand. Of course I would be worried about your safety and I am always upset about you getting hurt. But, I wouldn’t leave you because you chose this. In fact, it makes me more attracted to see you being a reliable comrade for rest of the squad and also being counted on” you said as you nuzzled into his hand, kissing the heel of it.

“So… the haircut, hair dye and eyebrows didn’t work?” he said with a pout.

“Baka” you said as you pulled away from his hand and pecked his cheek. Running your hands through his hair, and lightly scratching his scalp you said,

“I love your regardless of what you look like”

Bending forward while leaning his back against the sink, Mitsuya pulled you into him, causing to bend your knees against this crushing grip of your body against this.

“Aishiteru” he said while leaving a trail of kisses on your face. You giggled while wiping his kisses from your face that only caused him to pout and presses more kisses on your face.

Bonus: Watching you sleep at night, looking soft and vulnerable he said in a low tone “Thank for loving me”

Kissing the crown of your head he fell asleep while holding you close to him.

Little did he know that you were awake. Kissing his Adam’s apple, you whispered “Always”

♱ Hanma Shuuji :

“Shuu, give me the bottle” you said as you tried to reach for it. Lifting it high over your head, he placed it above the cabinet in the kitchen.

“Why don’t you try reaching up there Wan- chan” he said with a grin. “Getting blonde hair dye was your idea. What gives you the authority to act like a dick when it was something you wanted and not me? Does me no harm. Suit yourself, zombieface. ” you said as you walked away from the kitchen while waving your hand in dismissal.

“But it was your money that went into buying it wasn’t it?” he said. That statement stopped you in your tracks.

Looking back, you said “Ah… is that so? Wait for me here” you said. Going into the bedroom, you dug your hands into Shuuji’s pockets.

“Even though it’s deep for his bigass hands, he sure doesn’t have any money in them” you muttered while your fingers frantically searched for something.

“Aha” you said as you found a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.

“Nani mitsuketa?” you heard a baritone voice from behind you.

Hiding the things, you found behind you, you turned around to see Hanma lean against the doorframe of your shared room.

“Nandemonai” you said as you fiddled with the pack of cigarettes and lighter behind you. Unfortunately, the pack opened and one cigarette fell. Staring at the floor after hearing a small thud, Shuuji’s eyes widened at the realization of you taking his cigarettes.

“I think you have something of mine Wan- chan. Why don’t you be a good girl and give it back to me?” he asked extending his hand forward. Running to the nearest window and opening it with one hand sticking out with his cigarettes and lighter you said “Give me the blonde hair dye and permission to do whatever I want with your hair and we have a deal”

“You’re playing a dangerous game here. You do know that I work in a gang, right?” he asked with a humorous tone.

“Even though you work in a gang, you still have an addiction to tobacco don’t you Hanma san? Not to mention, even though you have deep pocket, you have no money… there isn’t a gang meeting today either and neither is Kisaki going to buy any more cigarettes. So, are you alright with each one falling out of the window? Mind you, there is a puddle from the rain earlier down there, so they would be ruined” you said with a smirk.

Gritting his teeth, Hanma left the room only to come back with the bottle of hair dye, setting it down on the floor.

Taking your hand away from the window, you threw the articles onto the coffee table.

“Are you always this difficult when it comes to hair?” you said as you squirmed on his lap. Shuuji insited that you sit you on his lap while doing his hair. You had spent the past thirty minutes protesting and getting up only to have your hand pulled and forced to give in till you sat on his lap.

He hummed while shaking his leg and holding you by your hips.

“Stay steady or I’ll hurt you Shuuji” you said as you tried to get a better angle to cut his hair with scissors.

“Kinky and thrilling” he said with a glint in his eye staring up at you. Sighing, you tilted his head and silently cut away at the grown ends of it. You could feel him breath slowly in and out and feel his body relax while cutting his hair.

Setting the scissors down, you felt him lean into your touch as you ran your hand through his wet hair before sectioning it. Picking up the toner followed by the dye you began to change his hair.

He held you by your waist close to him while you pecked the crown of his head while pushing his hair back.

He closed his eyes and breathed in your scent and said a muffled “ ‘Suki da”

Burning Questions I Still Have:

You know SJM really hasn’t given us too much substance in these book talks so I’m just going to put down these questions as my own way of expanding the topic of the book beyond Eris, Azriel, and the copious amount of sex they’re going to have (Nesta and Cassian) though all of that is very exciting. 

1. How much does Mor factor into this story? Are we going to see her at all or would she be more focused in on an Azriel story if we get one? 

2. Does Elain have any say in sending Nesta away? Will she have some involvement in Nesta’s healing? Will we see her in Illyria, visiting her sister perhaps, or will it be short instances? 

3. Does Nesta make new friends? Assumedly she does, but right now it’s looking very established character centric, but you know with these lack of spoilers. (rolls eyes)

4. Will the witch concept brought up in ACOWAR come up in ACOSF? Is Nesta technically a witch? Because her power extends beyond her natural reserve “technically.” Will we see other witches? Witches vs Illyrians... Maybe?

5. What is the main conflict in Illyria? And how will it be resolved? So far we know it has something to do with rebellion, but how do you fix that realistically? 

6. How will the women in Illyria gain some autonomy, because lets be honest, everyone learning to fight is and is not going to fix everything? 

7. Where is Bryaxis? 

8. Eris has a deal with Rhysand to help him kill his father. How would that work? Does it involve Nesta, does this then involve her more in the Inner Circle’s antics in which she’ll gain a job in some way? Whether she wants to or not. 

9. How does Nesta suffer? We know emotionally, yes. Power, yes. But how does that come about when there’s so much potential conflict in this book. 

10. What is the main conflict of this story? There seems to be many, that I’m sure will be extended to the other books that come out, but to what to extent does this book extend to the others. Will we see all of the same characters in the books after this one? 

11. Eris’s mom and Helion; Helion and Lucien. Enough said. 

12. Nesta dealing with her father’s death. 

13. Cassian’s mom, who is supposedly dead. (Jury is still out on that one; no dead body, no dead)

14. What’s that shadowy evil substance that Mor discovers by her estate?

15. Will Mor get a story? Especially since if she does then she’d be the first LGBTQ character from the SJM universe to have their own book... I think. Don’t quote me on that. But she’s got a lot to deal with too and I think she deserves a book. She’s a very interesting character. She reminds me of a mixture between Aelin and Bryce and the more secretive aspects of Nesta. 

16. Will Elain ever get a mate or significant other? Honestly, I’m on the fence with this. Mostly because one, Elain is purely side-character to me. She’s interesting, but not enough right now to warrant a whole book. I also just think that right now she’s kind of useless, and I don’t mean that to be mean, I just mean that she doesn’t have a purpose yet and most of her personality right now is purely fodder. It’s her main personality I say. Maybe not the honest to god deep one, but she’s got at least the surface level personality with hints of iceberg feelings. 

Interestingly enough it makes more sense I think to have the next book centered on Lucien and Azriel if they’re going to settle that conflict. Even though I hate love triangles in any sense, but none of them love each other right now anyways... And I think that it would be hard to figure out these three relationships when they’re already linked together in ACOWAR and ACOFAS. 

17. Will we ever know why Amren and Nesta got into a fight? Will their relationship be fixed? Also where she at in this whole conflict of interest that is this book and Nesta being sent away? Will we see her often? 

18. Will Rhysand have a good amount of time in this book? What is his involvement with Nesta--his sister-in-law lol? Will their relationship reach some level of understanding? Will they hate each other for ever? Will they have some semblance of mutual respect and a common denominator that is the love for Feyre and their protectiveness for their family? 

19. What are Cassian’s conflicts? To be quite honest, I feel this book is very Nesta centric, and I do hope that Cassian is not just thrown in there for romance and that’s it. BUT we know the Illyrian conflict, the Mor/Azriel conflict, the issue with being born a bastard, not belonging with his people. The Nesta conflict, the war probably. But like besides Nesta, all of these conflicts have existed for as long as he’s lived. So is that really a conflict or an issue to be dealt with... A lot of this will be resolved through the “Powers of Love” lol and whatever else they can do in Illyria, but then what else? Internally, I don’t feel he has too much to deal with because well... a lot of his problems center around other people. 

20. What will Feyre being doing? Let me be honest, I don’t like the thought of Feyre being pregnant. I understand her body her choice, but this girl literally went from let’s spend time with each other to let’s have a baby, because maybe it won’t happen in a few hundred years. But let’s be honest, if I was her I would not be thinking that it would happen in a few hundred years. Things happen in the most inconvenient times, and right now with all this, it’s very inconvenient. I also think I really don’t like it because right now she is really playing into that role of a wife and not as everything we know her as. I mean she’s allowed to relax, to be loved and what not, but I don’t know. Lame, I think, that she became high lady in name, but probably not in any sort of empowerment way, and I think that’s sad because she could do an awful lot of good, and should do it, because right now her court has soooooo many issues, even issues that Rhys kind of just puts in the back burner and hopes for the best. She is the equal to Rhys, but so far she’s not seeming so equal and she also seems to have lost some purpose. So I’m also wondering if this want of a child and planning for it is Feyre’s way of being useful again... because she spent so much of her life taking care of other people. Which again..... ehhhhhh. 

21. What the f*** are Nesta’s powers? What do they do? I hope it does not end in some vague inclination like Mor’s truth power whatever. But like, she should be all powerful, death god status. I want to see Nesta as the goddess she is. 

22. Koschei??? The stealer of the hero’s wife or whatever as he’s referenced in Russian lore... I think? Is he going to be more involved in Vassa, or Elain even (because Elain right now has always been the damsel) or Nesta, because of the queens and “their powerful ally.” Wouldn’t he be the best teacher for Nesta’s power really, when he’s a powerful sorcerer in the book/death god that has worshippers and what not and collects women.   

>>> My theory is that if Elain and Lucien are the next pov’s then maybe Nesta will be kidnapped by Koschei at the end, and Elain gets to really show what she’ll do for her family, and what she’s made of. But it also keeps the story going without cutting it off completely, and we keep the bigger conflict which is that there’s a whole world of problems and rulers and that Nesta’s story can’t really end at this book, because again she’s suppose to be all-powerful, cauldron incarnate, the wind has heard of her, spreading the news around, and that she does need to learn her powers and I doubt anyone can really teach her, but she for sure probably can’t teach her self. 

23. Will the love triangle situation not be between Elain, Lucien, and Azriel, but Vassa, Elain, and Lucien, or maybe a love square like A Midsummer Night’s Dream? That would be kinda cool. I just don’t really know if Azriel will be a love interest for Elain, even if he has that fondness for her. Azriel has a lot of problems, but he’s also like... I don’t know. Off topic. 

24. The Queens--what the hell? What about that one who turned old and is now immortal? They were chilling in Vassa’s kingdom. Where are they so Nesta can beat their asses? Also, these human kingdoms--what? What are they doing now that their queens are just in hiding and that allied with Hybern to be fae? Do they know? 

25. Magical humans--fae blood sometimes trickle into human lines from that one fae whoever she is. Doubt she’s the only one. Probably will have magical humans, realistically. 

26. Vassa--all of Vassa. Maybe Vassa and Mor.... You never know. I doubt they’ll get that curse reversed and she’ll be completely human, so maybe she’ll a be a shifter of a sort. If I can remember she’s like the only successful experiment. So maybe she got some fae blood and she can live for a long time and can be with Mor. I certainly hope Mor does not give up her immortality for her love interest, which I’m assuming you can do like in TOG. 

27. The fae kingdoms, that conflict needs be somewhat resolved. Doubtful. There’s three main ones I think. No one’s been signing treaties. How? That is all. 

28. Azriel powers, shadows, how did that happen? Does it elude to something bigger. 

29. Cassian’s background. Who the hell is he? Will we know papa? Mama? Past? He’s the most powerful Illyrian commander, he can’t be normal. The laws of fiction dictate otherwise. 

30. Last names? Middle names? Titles. Give me everything Sara. 

31. Eris. After daddy is dead, what next? Is his conflict so small and easily taken care of. He is very interesting to me. 

32. Did they actually take care of the cauldron? Miriam and Draken, will we see them again and their ideal world? 

33. Will Nesta travel? Because she should. She deserves to, it was her plan in ACOTAR, but then she stayed, and now she’s a shell. Please have Nesta see the world. With Cassian or without. Don’t care. Maybe both. 

34. How is a treaty going to be established, when humans hate fae, fae enslave humans, and the fact that there is so much more than fae that exist as we know????? Hmmm???

35. Oh Tamlin! Where he at? What he been doing? How will he help this conflict? Assuming he’s probably going to factor more in Lucien’s story, I’m almost positive he’s the next POV. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise to my fanfic writer/ obsessive reader brain.  

36. The objective of different worlds. I know SJM probably won’t get into it too much and it would probably be very complicated, but other worlds. Are people still coming in? Do some want to leave? Is it easy to travel between them--provided you know how? *whispers* can Nesta do this?

37..... I don’t know. I will add more if I can think of any, because I probably can. Honestly this was like therapy and made me feel so much better than any of SJM’s lives about the future of this series.
