doodle dumppp😎😎
The first one is an oc drawing (Silvin(left)’s being yelled at by his dad(right)😔💀) but then I remembered I hadn't drawn any of the Smiling Friends in my sketchbook yet so I dropped those bad boys in there😎😎 also I realized it'd been a while since I'd drawn Welcome Home fanart so I did a crossover doodle lol😂
Transcript (plus some random commentary cause the urge to babble was too strong) under the cut so you don't have to squint as hard as Pim to read any of my handwriting lol:
Image 1: Silvin’s shirt says "NYAH!" and has a lil cat + a fish on it :3 also Sil's dad is a king btw hence the crown + fancy jewelry lol
Image 2: (it's just Allan lol) (he's sideways cause that's how he is in the sketchbook I didn't have room to make him stand upright) (rip anyone under the coffee he's spilling everywhere)
Image 3: the booklet Pim's looking at (bottom right doodle) says "menu" and the writing next to him says "can't see"
Image 4: Wally says "Can you help put my friend's head back on?" and Charlie tells Pim "Bro I think he killed that guy" also in case it's hard to tell Wally is holding Barnaby's disembodied head

Intro post!! (๑°ㅁ°๑)‼✧
Hiii! My name's Tisa, I'm 16 and I'm from Serbia! (๑'ᴗ')ゞ
I love listening to music, baking, walking, writing and reading! I've been trying to get back into painting and drawing but I always forget to practice ☆(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
My favourite school subjects are literature, psychology and art. I'd love to work as a therapist (even though my passion is writing) (^_^♪)
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
Some music I like are bands like My Chemical Romance (literally every single post here is about MCR), Pierce the Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, old Panic! At the Disco, old(er) Fall Out Boy, Kittie, Jack Off Jill, Hole, Frank Iero's solo work, Gerard Way's solo work, The Used, Fit For Rivals, Die So Fluid, Black Veil Brides, Flyleaf, Green Day and a LOT more ꉂ(ˊᗜˋ*)♡
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
My favourite song is "To The End" by MCR (let's ignore the fact that I have a dozen more favourite songs by MCR) or "This Song Is A Curse..." by Frank Iero and my favorite album of all time is Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge! ٩( ᐛ )و
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
Other things I like are Sally Face (I've been obsessed with it since 6th grade), literature, a random poet from my hometown, beef soup, cheap super sweet perfumes, my room, super long video essays, Edgar Allan Poe, comics (I haven't read many, I'm really trying to get into them more) snails, my headphones and backup wired earbuds, baking cookies, pins and badges, stupid socks, band shirts and romanticism in art and literature! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
My pronouns are she/they, I'm some shade of gay, but I think labels are stupid so I don't stick to any (@_@;)
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
I hate math and anything to do with it, Val Velocity (this is a Val Velocity hate blog people), getting up early and Thomas Pynchon (I've read one book of his for an extracurricular literature class, hated it and I've been vocally hating him since then, even though I haven't read anything else by him) ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
I'm super shy and won't approach anyone, be it irl or online, so if anyone by any miraculous chance wants to be my friend please text first :;(∩´﹏`∩);:
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
I'm an INFP, and for my astrology baddies I'm a Sagittarius Sun, Sagittarius Moon and Cancer rising! I wanna get into astrology and crystals and all that but idk where to start lol ヘ( ̄ω ̄ヘ)
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
I love making lyrics posts, so here's my MCR lyrics masterlist and other band lyrics masterlist, in case you wanna check 'em out! (◕દ◕)
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════
And also!!! This is me (ノ゚0゚)ノ
(no pic yet :c)
═════════•°•🦷•°•═════════

Here's what I'm using as my pfp and my banner/background-image/pictury-thingy-at-the-top-of-a-blog/whatever-it's-called! I made them both on a website called pixilart.
I made the banner about 3 years ago. Pixil art won’t give me an exact date, it literally just says “about 3 years ago”. I remember being really proud of it then, it was actually kinda the first drawing I made that I was proud of! I’m not sure if I still feel that way about it now, there is definitely a lot I would change about it but I have very very very few finished art pieces that have some semblance of detail to them and this one still kinda carries the feeling of a good memory to me! I had called it Raven of the Summer Night (wow so dramatic!) I want to redo this one day when I’m a little better cause I had a lot of fun making it!
I finished the profile picture on August 29th, I think? (Pixil art is just saying it’s from 30 days ago lol). Part of the reason why I didn’t post anything on Tumblr for so long was because I wanted my first post to be a more detailed drawing of me (or more so my sona I guess) that I would use as my pfp but I never finished any of my attempts and over time I kept trying to make them more and more simple but I STILL never finished them and then when I finally decided I would just go like REALLY simple I STILL struggled with it cause like HOW DO U MAKE SIMPLE DRAWING WITH SMALL NUMBER OF LITTLE SQUARES? (Guys, you know how artists are like “try not to overthink it” and “don’t get caught up over little details”? HOW? HOW DO I NOT OVERTHINK IT? I would literally get caught up over the placement of like 1 or 2 pixels CONSTANTLY! WHY DID THIS LITTLE SIMPLE DRAWING TAKE ME SO FREAKING LONG?!?!) Anyways, we ended up with this little gremlin thing. She passes the vibe check. She’s giving the right energy. She has noodle arms. She often forgets that hairbrushes exist. She’s here to spread positivity or, at the very least, attempt to do something like that. Sometimes she even forms a thought! Only sometimes tho. She lied on her resume, btw, she’s not actually a raven. Please still hire her, she really wants to see Edgar Allan Poe live. (Nobody tell her he’s dead, please).
#oh boy! more hashtags!#I see that a lot of people have a tag that they use for their own art#idk if thats like just something pro artists do tho#screw it im gonna do that too lol#Raven did an art!#that it thats gonna be my “art” tag#this feels so weird#I should stop talking now probably#ok bye!!!!!

*sighs* because none of my friends have watched it and I’m at a soccer game and I’m bored out of my mind could I ask you some questions?
Have you watched Remember the Titans? (If you haven’t it’s on Disney Plus and is literally the best football movie I’ve ever seen; plus young Ryan Gosling who plays a guy named Allan which I screamed at because “all his clothes fit me”)
If you have…I dunno, thoughts, favorite moment, anything (beggar me, scrounging for crumbs)
More Tiny Little Headcanons for Henryyyy (+ some Henry Lives AU headcanons)
Because Athena acts in older plays, he’s tried to read more Shakespearean books and stuff like that so they can talk about it together and he can be of assistance when she’s rehearsing. (This is how I see it, you’ll probably have something different: he’s OKAY with them, but not the hugest fan. Whenever Athena is ranting about how useless the female characters are, he’ll just nod with a small smile and agree.)
He’s the kind of person to be kind of awkward around small kids, convinced that they don’t like him. I think that kids can sense a kind person, so that doesn’t deter them and he ends up teaching them how to draw and stuff.
I’ve never been in a hospital as a patient and I’m guessing ways to kill yourself wouldn’t be TOO numerous but when Henry first wakes up to a few weeks out he tries many times to pull the tubes out of him or turn off the numbing medication (the stuff that’s in the bag; not hydration but…ughhhh stoopid), get out of his bed and stuff to the point where they have to tie him down. (IS THIS FACTUAL I DONT KNOW). After that, when Sam comes to visit and he asks what happened, Henry says, “I’m a monster. Thats why.” Or something.
In a lighter note, Henry DEFINITELY makes for some awkward situations when he asks Sam “when are you gonna marry your girl?” And Sam tries to explain that he and “his girl” have been on one half date to get coffee after seeing his broken body being taken away to the hospital. “Where’s your ring?” “What ring, Henry?” “Your- the ring you were gonna give her; you didn’t lose it, did you?” “Who is her?”
That’s all for now. Probably will continue in ten minutes. Thanks for reading all this shit.
I haven't seen Remember the Titans yet, but it's on my list!
And I'm literally so happy to get headcanons I'm twirling my (non-existent) long hair ✨
• I would love to dive into their relationship more! We get so little about her but I love the classic "visual artist doesn't fully understand the literary artist and vice versa but they are super supportive of each other" bit!
• I also think he'd be good with kids, or at least they'd sense that he's chill, he's Definitely a cat person IMO
• I'm honestly planning on him being on a psych hold at some point in the story so I SEE the vision
• And yes!!! The blurring between realities!!! That's also something I'm Super excited to write about!!
As always I owe you my life lol, thanks for the inspiration!

Fic Writer Things & Tags
thanks for the tag @colleybri!
1. How did you get into writing fanfiction?
I started daydreaming story ideas for obsessions of the moment when I was probably 8-10 or so. (First thing I remember doing this with was Young Jedi Knights somehow it always comes back to Star Wars, sigh). Computers and internet and such followed soon thereafter (*waves in old*) and I had my first dedicated account online by 13.
2. How many fandoms have you written in?
Mm... counting all the corners of MCU and Star Wars as one each, probably not more than 10 over the years? Which is kind of wild now that I think about it.
3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
Not to say consistently the whole time but something like 22.
4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?
Hm. Kind of goes in waves I guess? If I'm in a writing zone, I often neglect reading, my brain is too crowded lol. But when I'm more creatively drifting between projects and whatnot, more reading is happening.
5. What is one way you’ve improved as a writer?
Just better at seeing/tackling/building up a bigger picture in a story.
6. What’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
this answer feels boring but probably scouring army manuals for the Powder Keg/'seize the moment' trio of Hamilton stories.
7. What’s your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?
having people tell me they've adopted (usually filler type) fics or ideas from fics as personal headcanon lol. Highest form of compliment. After that, that something made someone cry, that one makes me very proud.
8. What’s the most fringe trope/topic you write about?
I... *sweats nervously*... I don't know?? Feels weird that I'm drawing a blank here but *shrug* I like complicated power/authority dynamics, is that fringe?
9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?
hilarious answer on the shipping website but romance, probably?
10. What is the easiest type?
I guess the most common thread I spot through various fandoms is aftermath of trauma. The Bucky Barnes girlie in me. The Crosshair girlie in me. *waves vaguely at everyone and their issues in Andor* *waves vaguely at the monster that became the Conway Cabal universe*
11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?
Home, alone, distractions-less as possible which usually = earlier in the morning or after everyone's in bed for the night. I write in Word sometimes supplemented by Scrivener organization tools for more ambitious schemes.
12. What is something you’ve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?
Ya know, been at this a while, have kind of learned to just lean in to the creative energy. The only thing that really occupied this space during my last 18 months' foray back into Star Wars was the Cassian Sipo/Mimban new setting/OC-riddled backstory but I made that one go in the end.
13. What made you choose your username?
Contrary to popular belief, has nothing to do with Star Wars/Poe Dameron, it is a nerdy mashup Doctor Who Face of Bo and Edgar Allan Poe.
Tagging @nessrealta, @ceruleanphoenix7, @my-deer-friend, @hereditaryconditions, @wolveria

YALL I found my old diary from when I was 13 and I was NOT prepared for how much it swings between “pretentious wannabe Romantic poet” and “cripplingly self-aware middle schooler”
So right away this is hardcore. Comes with a warning that my ghost will haunt whoever reads it after my death.
“The account of Ocean Waves [for some reason, I was convinced I would be published under that name lol] ^ otherwise known by a less appealing name, is enclosed. Please do not read until you are sure my name is carved into a headstone. If I am killed for the sole purpose of reading this, however far-fetched that may seem, I will hunt you down.”
Happy reading,
- Ocean.
P.S.- You can, however, read this with permission. Good luck with that. Also, if you do decide to kill me, I would prefer a peaceful death. And by the way, I would prefer even more if you didn’t try to kill me. Oh, and if this is read while I’m still alive, I will still hunt you down.”
Already, you can see the makings of a future historian in the works.
“In this somewhat girly journal [it was Disney Princess themed] is the somewhat boring account of a 13-year-old girl. I, Sophia [last name], also known as Ocean Waves, am recording things in here in hopes of future discovery. As I will not share this to [sic] the outside world, I hope this journal will be preserved so that future civilization may find out about my time. However, as a writer and an artist, my goal is to be noticed, not especially famous.”
I give some hilarious takes here:
“I also have artist’s block. I tried drawing a picture earlier; but I didn’t feel like finishing it. I wonder if I’ll ever draw with a passion again.”
(No, younger me, you were just undiagnosed with ADHD.)
Notably, I don’t think I was the Medieval history expert I thought I was at the time:
“I don’t wish to have a boyfriend, and at 13, I don’t think I’m ready to. In the dark ages, girls my age would have already been grandmothers. I think that’s revolting.”
I get very pretentious about my English classes, although I have to say, I still agree with my criticisms of the school system.
“This is my own personal thought, and I prefer it not to be read, as I think differently at night. I think the school system does not have a very good idea of what language arts should be like. We spend hours picking apart and dissecting poems, like they are carcasses and we vultures. Poems aren’t made to be dissected, they’re made to be felt. And all we write are expository essays. Of course this is important, but there’s no way to express how we feel. After all, who decided to put “art” in “language arts” when there is no art to it at all; just mindless examining? I’m sorry for my rant [not sure why I keep apologizing to my private diary], but that’s what journals are for. Until tomorrow,
- Ocean”
I also write about my own art with self-loathing that would put a sexually-repressed 17th century Puritan to shame. You can see me dot my “i” with circles now because I saw a Buzzfeed video once that said people who do that are creative. And I get very passionate about Edgar Allan Poe for some reason:
“I experimented with my new copic markers today, and everyone who saw my drawings seemed to like them. I’m disgraced to say that I had a sense of overwhelming pride, but I’m not used to people noticing my art too often. In first period (aka so called “Language Arts”), we read “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe. Most people in the class didn’t seem to appreciate it, but I did. It tore open the hearts of both the reader + the main character, exposing his grief + longing towards Lenore, who [sic] he can never see again, so much that the stoic raven drives him to insanity and later, death. And to think that Poe got barely any recognition in his time! I’m not expecting much publicity from my books, but I do hope I’ll be able to write gripping + chilling stories like Poe did, without his own troubles (…)”
… In summary, I think 13 year old me would be very happy to know that in the years since, I majored in English, still draw, still single, and own a Poe anthology I bought while visiting the museum dedicated to him in Virginia.

I was going to send this ask earlier, but I got sidetracked by life.
I hope you're enjoying my Phandrow playlist as I am! I hope I did your story justice, and I actually wanted to tell you why I chose certain songs for this ship. Now, a good portion is self-explanatory (Phantom of the Opera, Edgar Allan Poe, dramatic love songs via Dracula and the Addams Family), but it's the very first four songs that I believe are truly the embodiment of "Of Curses and Verses".
The Gloom - a ballad of sorts about depression, describing a person who lives in the gloom. This is the introduction to Woodrow AND Phantom, two different characters who find each other within the shadows of their misfortune.
Disappear - a tragic and heartbreaking love song that holds on to whatever spark of hope (ha!) is left. Like The Gloom, Disappear is Phantom and Woodrow spilling their hearts out to each other while hanging out inside the fallen moon in Pallette Prime. They're both very unlucky in life and they reach out to each other, desiring to be understood yet worried about the limited amount of time they have.
The Dark Ones - Now this one is more of an fan interpretation, as this song is a combination of Phantom's quote, "...and damn the consequences", and Woodrow's overwhelming urge to write his poetry shown through creeping nightmares. The Dark Ones tempt our sad boi poet into giving up his creative abstinence and relish in its misfortune. Also, I imagined this as an animatic where the embodiment of unluckiness, in the form of Phantom, seduces Woodrow and thus driving him into madness a la running into the woods. 👉👈
The Dawn - The bittersweet end of the story. Things have been somewhat better, both lovers are still depressed and yet there's a sense of freedom between them. Their love didn't die with the Gloom, and they both live for each other as they comfort each other through their worst times.
I swear, every time I think about "Of Curses and Verses" or Phandrow in general, these two become more and more like a Gothic novel couple.
Oh I totally getcha, "Side-tracked by life" is the story of my... well, my life, lol
But YES, I appreciate all this so much- you really seem to understand the appeal of them as a couple in the same way I do, and what I was trying to do in the fanfic. Rest assured the playlist will serve me as plenty of inspiration in the future, for both drawings and fics :D Because I will be obsessed with them forever even if Phantom comes back in the Rayman DLC and looks directly in the camera and says "By the way, I met Woodrow. Can't stand him." I WILL STILL MAKE IT WORK. I BELIEVE
And by the way, when I get back to Music of the Night, it definitely focuses more on the monstrous/dark temptation aspect... it's a shame I'm going on a trip this weekend because I actually want to write more RIGHT NOW

I am assuming the Tumblr God decided to eat my ask. Therefore, I will be re-tipping my previous ask if my brain would kind to remind me of it.
You have said that you are a literature lover. I was wondering if it would be so kind of you to share the books that you have read. The books that you disliked and why? Which are your favourite books
Who is the author/book that you love and one that you dislike?
What Era of literature is your favourite?
And finally, which piece of literature had an immense impact on your life?
Hi love! How are you? No no, I still have your original question. Sorry, I'd been quite busy and when that happens I try to focus either on writing the little I could so I can update or drawing so I space out a bit from work.
I'm going to be honest for a sec, University has forced me to read almost nobody that doesn't involve research papers and biochemistry books lol. So I've not read any recreational books in a while. The last two I read were "The Portrait of a Lady" by Henry James and "the handmaid's tale" by Margaret Atwood.
Mh books I've read? I don't think I remember them all haha But I can tell you about my overall I guess. My unpopular opinion is that while I'm a huge horror lover Stephen King books are… so boring for me. First, I find his female character so empty. If they aren't the villain, they are a devoted mother, or some hot love interest. Of course they are exceptions but it's too frequent for me to deal with it.
The handmaid's tale HBO show? amazing, mind blowing, gorgeous. The book? … Huh… well… It was decent. First time that I can say that a book adaptation was better than the book itself.
John Katzenbach thriller books are really good but he has a "patron" to create thriller and once you read more than one they become predictable. I highly recommend "the analyst". While I've not read more than the original and apparently there are more parts to it, the first book was good enough for me. I think it's a really easy going thriller and entertaining.
There's a book from my home country, Argentina, that I adore. "El elixir de la muerte y otras historias con veneno'' by Ciencia que Ladra (in English, the death's elixir and other stories with poison). I think it's an amazing book for those who like to write books. It's basically a summary of the different poisons used in history and, also, medicine that was "used as medicine" and actually was extremely poisonous. I love that book to get references for my own stories.
Books I have like: Les Miserables, Foucault's Pendulum, Tales of two cities, 1984, Brave New World (This last two are books I think that ANYONE should read, it's just perfection). I've read a bunch of Jane Austen books, I enjoy them. Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. I'm actually quite boring with my books haha I'm into the classics. I've read a good couple of Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe and obviously Sherlock Holmes. Wuthering Heights
That's why I think my favourite Era in literature is Romanticism. I remember that I personally adore how heavily detailed the description of places and I'd always loved heavy literature. I get bored if I feel like I don't need a dictionary while I'm reading.
Recently, I've been interested a lot in Anarchism books hahaha I don't know how appropriate it is to say that. But yeah, for example: The Conquest of Bread by Kropotkin, Malatesta. LMAO I feel like people would feel like I want to put bombs into buildings after this.
A book that I like mmh eh I guess that any of the above. My guilty pleasure is the one about poison because I adore finding weird History details. Like the story of "búcaros" during the Spanish Golden Age, that's just… chef kiss of history details haha.
A book that I dislike? I remember I hated every page of Robinson Crusoe and I really didn't like "the portrait of a lady". I learned a lot of English vocabulary reading the last one but I felt like it cringed me out a lot. However I added a quote from it in Holy ground because I remember reading it and thinking "god, this is for Levi,"
which is: “If one is strong, one loves the more strongly.”
A piece of literature that marks me, probably 1984. I read it when I was… perhaps too young to understand and once I read it again as an adult it really changed me. But probably Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. My father was a buddhist so my home was full of … let's say interesting books lol. This book is short but left me with a quote for the rest of my life "Recognise your own limits and truly enough they will be yours," maybe in English the quote is different but this is how i remember it in Spanish.
I think that's it! sorry for the late reply. I hope this is somehow useful! Lots of love!

New Girl on the Block (17)
(sorry for the late update everyone! I spent time with family this weekend and got a little side tracked lol anyway, please enjoy chapter 17 of “New Girl on the Block” and as always, feel free to check out the mini series connected to this called Journal Entries!)
Ch.1 / Ch.16 / Ch.18 (ao3)
Chapter 17: Subtlety Is Key
The platform ladder that Marinette was standing on sat firmly in Felix’s grip as he watched her attempt to pin a stream of hearts to the wall. She appeared to be having trouble deciding which angle was best, moving her end of the stream up and down while staring at the other end, which was already pinned up, and squinting. He half wondered if she was going to take this long on every stream of hearts she pinned up, since she'd been doing the same up-and-down motion for a while now, but he also didn’t mind waiting if she did. The longer he stood here, the better his chances were of escaping the task of writing those “thank you” cards that Allegra liked to put in her party favors. She always managed to rope him into it, saying that his handwriting was the best amongst them, which, in truth, it was, but why not save the trouble and type out the message on the computer in a curly font? Surely, it would have the same effect.
“Felix, does this look straight to you?”
Felix dragged his gaze back up to Marinette, who was frowning at the spot that she’d finally decided to stop on. The stream of hearts hung to her right, making a nice curve on the wall that looked fine, but he wouldn’t be able to say for certain until he acquired a level, which they didn’t have.
“As straight as it can get, I imagine.” He replied. Even if it was a tad off, the guests would hardly notice. They’ll be too busy mingling and dancing around.
A sigh fell from the ravenette, and she lowered the hearts to give him a tired look. “How is that supposed to help me?”
“Well, it’s definitely not straight now. Does that help?”
Marinette pressed her lips into a thin line, obviously disgruntled, and Felix clenched his jaw to avoid smiling. Perhaps he should wait until she got off the ladder to continue. She might kick him in the face otherwise.
“Why are you here if you’re not going to be useful?” She grumbled, turning back to the wall.
A snort escaped Felix’s lips. “I am being useful. I’m holding the ladder so you don’t fall and break your neck.”
“Bold of you to assume I won’t fall whether the ladder is steady or not.”
“Which is another reason why I’m here.” He replied smoothly. “To catch you.”
Marinette hummed, glancing down at him from the corner of her eye. “How kind of you.”
“Yes, it really is, isn’t it?”
She breathed out a small laugh and shook her head, coaxing a smirk from Felix as well.
It’s been about a week since they stayed up all night talking at Allegra’s house, since things between them changed, since things with him changed. He couldn’t quite place what had caused it, except that it was most definitely her. The way she listened to him wholeheartedly throughout the entire night, hanging on his every word, offering support when needed and trading a few stories herself- It made him feel heard, which was immensely strange. Because he’d been heard before, plenty of times in fact. It was nothing new. So why was that night different? Was it because of the soft atmosphere that the moon provided? Or because they were both somewhat tired despite saying otherwise? Why did his entire being feel so clear and refreshed when they went up to bed later on?
Whatever happened, he’d assumed that the feeling would be gone by morning, since nighttime conversations hardly travel to the next day, but imagine his surprise when the feeling swelled full force in his chest the next day, specifically when he greeted Marinette in the hall. It was as crystal clear as the night before, and it had yet to fade even now.
Felix didn’t understand. Not at all. But he certainly wasn’t going to dispute it. He actually began encouraging the feeling, talking with Marinette on a more constant basis, muttering in her direction during conversations, asking more casual questions, throwing around a joke or two about the others when it seemed appropriate- he even found himself teasing her at one point, which led him to the wonderful realization that Marinette Dupain-Cheng was much sassier than he’d given her credit for. Despite her surprise, she’d snapped back immediately, a playful glare in her eyes and a smirk on her lips, and with an unexpected reaction like that, Felix couldn’t not tease her more. That would simply be a waste.
In the following week, he continued to talk with her, and continued to learn how much of a wild card she truly was. She never reacted to his teasing the same way. For example, one minute, she would blush, the next she would smack him, or roll her eyes and shoot right back without a second thought, or even pout. There was no telling what she was going to do next, and Felix eagerly anticipated her next move each time. It was fun for him now, fun to talk with her, fun to see her smirks and glares and giggles when he did. He could understand why Claude, Allegra, and Allan would want to talk with everyone and anyone if they all acted like her.
Their dynamic had definitely changed over the last few days, and although he wasn’t sure how much Marinette had noticed it herself, Felix knew he was thoroughly enjoying the shift.
“There.” Marinette said above him, leaning back to put her hands on her hips. “How’s that?”
Felix’s eyes glazed over the stream of hearts again, and he let out a hum. “A bit more to the left.”
Her shoulders drooped. “Are you serious?”
“No.”
The narrowed yet playful glare that she shot him had Felix holding back another chuckle, and he innocently moved to grab one of the pink, inflated balloons on the table next to them to hand it to her.
“Why do I ask you anything anymore?” She asked as she took the balloon from him.
“Because you know I’m an excellent judge when it comes to fine craftsmanship, such as the stream of hearts hanging above us on the wall right now.”
Marinette scoffed, tacking the balloon to the wall just above the first decoration. “What, are you kissing up to me now? Are you trying to butter me up so I’ll bring you more cheesy croissants?”
Felix shot her a look of feigned offense. “I wouldn’t dream of it, not after the amount of pain and effort that went into the making of those decorations.”
Now she was glaring at him. “Exactly how long do you plan on holding that paper cut against me?”
“I haven’t the faintest idea what you’re talking about.” Felix replied, a slight smile betraying his lips as he did.
Marinette huffed, letting her eyes flick up in an eyeroll, and started back down the ladder. Felix moved back to let her off, before grabbing the ladder again to lift it over to the next wall. They still had two more streams to put up.
“You seem to be more present today.” He commented, thinking back on the get-together they had yesterday. She’d been lost in her own thoughts through the first part of it, so much so that Allegra felt the need to ask her if she was alright. Marinette didn’t get to answer due to Claude jumping in, but when Felix asked her about it again a bit later, she quickly froze up, saying that she’d rather keep it to herself for the time being.
Felix understood, of course, and he said as much, but that didn’t stop him from being curious. Or even a bit concerned. She always had a specific look when that model was involved, and she’d worn it openly yesterday. Therefore, he could only assume that that was part of the trouble, but how much trouble? Did they run into each other again? Did he text her? Did he go looking for her somewhere? There were too many possibilities and not enough clues for Felix to draw a firm conclusion. He couldn’t even be sure that Agreste was the problem in the first place.
“Did your troubles sort themselves out?” He added, trying not to look at her too much as he did. Felix didn’t want to pry, but he did want to make sure she was handling herself alright. (Not that that was really in question at this point. After that run-in with the akuma, they all knew quite well that Marinette could take care of things when she needed to.)
Marinette paused at the base of the ladder, tilting her head at him with a questioning glance. “My troubles?”
A slight frown tugged at the corner of Felix’s lips. Had she forgotten already? It must not have been that important, then..
“You said something was bothering you yesterday.” He said anyway.
“Oh!” Understanding washed over her features, but a grimace quickly followed. “Oh.”
Felix rose a brow. Did that mean the problem wasn’t resolved?
“Um.. no.” She said, offering a bit of clarity as she fiddled with the next stream of hearts that they were supposed to be hanging up. “No, it’s still very much there, unfortunately. I’m not sure how everything’s going to work out yet.”
Felix nodded. “I see. I apologize for bringing it up, then.”
“No, no, you’re fine.” She insisted as she climbed the ladder. “I know you were just trying to help.”
“Besides,” Marinette threw another smile over her shoulder, one that was clearly softer than the smirks she’d been giving him earlier, “if it gets to be too much, I’m sure you’ll come to rescue again. So you can have something else to brag about.”
Felix’s eyes widened, admittedly knocked off balance by the comment. Joking about being rescued wasn’t entirely unusual, but ‘again’? What did she mean ‘again’? Did she think he rescued her before? When? Why did he find himself feeling immensely pleased with the thought?
“Of course..” He muttered absently. “I do love to brag, you know.”
It was a bland remark to be sure, not nearly one of his best, but Marinette laughed anyway, as she always did, and turned back around to start pinning the next stream of hearts to the wall.
Felix continued to watch.

Bzzt. Bzzt.
Adrien lunged for his phone, unlocking it with his fingerprint before it could even finish vibrating, and tapped the notification. Was it her? Had she finally decided to text him? Please let it be her!
A news app flashed onto his screen, and his shoulders sagged as he realized that Marinette hadn’t texted him. How long was she going to wait? It’s already been a full day, and winter break was fading fast. He knew these things could take time, but they honestly didn’t have a lot of that right now. Once school started up again, his schedule was going to go right back to packed, and he’d barely be able to breathe let alone go see her. He didn’t want their precious chance to hang-out to go to waste.
“You good, dude?” Nino asked next to him. “You’ve been hovering around your phone all day. Is something going on?”
“Oh, uh-” Adrien sat up, pushing away his phone and disappointment. Marinette was going to text him eventually. He just needed to be patient. “No, everything’s fine. Père just likes to stay in touch with me while I’m out, so I want to make sure I don’t miss any text messages or anything.”
Nino frowned. “Isn’t sending Gorilla with you enough?”
Adrien shrugged. “Yeah, but you know how he is. He likes to stay on top of things.”
Disgruntlement flicked across Nino’s features, and he tugged his hat down slightly to hide it, muttering, “Or he just likes to control everything.”
Adrien smiled despite the comment. “Come on, he’s not that bad. He let us hang out today, right?”
Nino nodded, though his frown didn’t fade. “Yeah, I guess that’s true.. Just don’t let him distract you from our game. We still have a tie to break.”
Adrien straightened and grabbed the controller that he’d dropped earlier. “Course not! Père or no, I still have plenty of focus to beat you.”
Nino let out a playful scoff. “Sure, dude. We’ll see who beats who this time.”
Adrien chuckled and positioned himself on the couch, and the two jokingly counted down before starting the next match.
Keeping Nino in the dark about Marinette wasn’t something Adrien enjoyed- they were best friends, after all -but he didn’t want to risk talking about her now. The class was only just now starting to be suspicious of Lila, and even then, it was light, joking. They weren’t serious about it yet. If they knew he was meeting up with Marinette, the person they still weren’t entirely fond of, it might serve as a disadvantage to him. What if they stopped listening to him because he was talking with her? He couldn’t take that chance. He needed to get his feet planted firmly on the ground before taking any rash steps forward.
That said, he did need to take some sort of step forward. Lila trying to make a deal with him last week was extremely reassuring, since it meant that she herself thought of him as a threat, but he also knew that he couldn’t slack off because of it. Muttering over her shoulder wasn’t going to work forever, and if he didn’t find a way to crank up the pressure soon, she would start countering his subtle attacks. Maybe he could start talking to people directly? While they were alone. He could talk to them more about Lila and ask if her stories are suspicious.. But what if he talks to the wrong person? Depending on who he conversed with, they might round on him in an instant, and his plan would crumble again. No, he needed to be careful about this. He needed to start with someone he could trust.
“....So,” Adrien glanced at Nino, because who better to start with than his best friend? “what are your thoughts on Lila?”
If Adrien wanted to change everyone’s opinion of Marinette and Lila, he supposed he would have to know those opinion’s first, and Nino, he felt, was the perfect candidate for that. He was a chill, relaxed person, who pretty much liked everybody. (Everybody except Adrien’s father, that is.) His opinion of Lila should be similar to an average of everyone else’s opinion, and Adrien could use that as an estimation of Lila’s- hopefully decreasing -popularity.
Nino scrunched up his nose, clearly confused by the change of subject. “Lila? I mean, she’s alright. Pretty nice. Alya really likes her.”
Adrien nodded thoughtfully. That was about what he expected him to say. “What do you think about her stories? It seems like she’s been everywhere, doesn’t it?”
Nino snorted. “Right? She says she knows everybody and anybody. It’s pretty crazy.”
Adrien’s eyes widened slightly, though Nino didn’t notice. ‘She says she knows everybody’? Not ‘she knows everybody’? If Adrien didn’t know any better, he might say that sounded a little bit like doubt.
“You don’t believe her?” He asked, carefully.
“No, no, I do.” Nino rushed to say, ignoring the game console that was now blinking ‘defeat’ on his side. “It’s just.. you know.. crazy. She’s been all over the world, knows all these different people, and she’s only fifteen. And she kept up with the school the whole time. It sounds like a lot.”
“Yeah, it definitely does.” Adrien agreed, setting his controller aside and hiding a smile. “And now, she’s been taking up the job as class president, even though she’s still planning charity events and working at homeless shelters and hanging out with Alya and the rest of the girls and doing homework.. It makes you wonder how she fits it all into her schedule.”
Nino chuckled. “Yeah, I- It’s.. I don’t know. I definitely couldn’t do it. What about you, though? What do you think about her? You seem to be really interested in her lately.”
Adrien had to bite the inside of his cheek to avoid laughing. Interesting was a word.
“Ah, well.. I guess I’m just curious about her more than anything. I’m a model who goes places and meets people all the time, and I haven’t met nearly as many famous people as she has. I wanna learn how she’s managed to not get in any news or magazines so far-”
Bzzt. Bzzt.
Adrien paused mid-word to whirl around and check his phone. He was honestly preparing himself for the disappointment already- why would this time be any different? -when his eyes landed on the tiny speech bubble that represented his text messaging app. His insides leaped at this sight, and he tried to swallow his excitement as he tapped the notification. Was it her? Had she finally texted him?
Marinette’s name splayed across the top of the screen, and it took every ounce of discipline for Adrien not to leap off the couch and cheer. She’d texted him! Marinette had finally texted him back!
~Hey, sorry it took me so long to text you. I’ve been helping my friends out with something. If you want, I can meet up with you at (something) café for lunch on Feb. 15th? Does that work for you?~
Lunch! Adrien wanted to scream. She was inviting him to lunch! Marinette did want to hang out with him more! This was perfect!
He quickly texted her back.
~That sounds great! I’ll see you then ;D~
Adrien hadn’t even checked his schedule yet, but that didn’t matter. He was making this lunch date no matter what. Then he could talk with Marinette about his plans and maybe convince her to come back and-
“Was that your dad?” Nino asked, breaking Adrien from his thoughts yet again. That was probably a good thing though. He shouldn’t be getting too ahead of himself. From the way things looked, Marinette was really enjoying her new school life. It will probably take a lot of convincing to get her to come back. For now, he needed to take things slowly.
Slowly.
“Oh, yeah.” Adrien said, cool as a cucumber. “He was just telling me about my next photoshoot.”
“Another one? It’s not going to stop us from hanging out, is it?”
“No, no, it shouldn’t.” Not that he knew of, anyway. The only thing his meeting with Marinette would hopefully affect was everyone’s opinions of Lila.
Nino relaxed slightly at the answer. “Good. He over-works you way too much. You should ask for a raise or something.”
Adrien laughed. “I think I’d rather keep the time off that he gives me. Anyway, you ready to play another round? You lost, so now you have to catch back up.”
Nino eyed his controller with a slight smile. “Whatever, man, you know I’m gonna pass you up without a problem.”
“Sure you are.” Adrien smirked. “Just like how you were gonna pass me up last round.”
Nino laughed and snatched his controller up. “Oh, it’s on, dude.”

Allegra drew in a deep breath, reveling in the scent of the special candles she’d ordered. Patchouli and Rosewood- the perfect thing to accentuate the rose bouquets delicately placed on the round tables and encourage the romantic mood for their party. With the lights dimmed and everyone dancing together on top of that, hearts were bound to be captured, and she couldn’t wait to see it, especially when it came to a particular pair.
Allegra set her candle down and subtly glanced over her shoulder at Felix and Marinette, who were currently stringing up the last stream of hearts on the other side of the room. They were both laughing and talking together, completely comfortable as Felix held the ladder steady and Marinette pinned her last balloon at the end of the stream. It was a cliché couple, really- the stoic, uptight rich boy falling hard for the sweet, adorable bakery girl -but Allegra was determined to see it work out. She’s always prided herself on getting unlikely people together, and these two were going to be her ultimate achievement. Of course, at this point, she supposed she could hardly call them an unlikely couple. They’ve been rather in-step with each other as of late. What with their muttering to each other during group-hang outs and sharing secret looks and sitting near each other on a regular basis. She might be inclined to be excited for the progress if she had any idea as to why they were suddenly so close. Last week, Felix was still gritting his teeth about being caught looking at Marinette, yet today, he’s talking and smiling and laughing with her openly. Laughing! Felix doesn’t laugh. He scowls and hisses and maybe smirks when he’s in a good mood, but he doesn’t laugh. Something monumental must have happened between the two that would encourage him to do so. So what was it? When was it? Her entire body was itching to know, and the fact that she knew she couldn’t ask only made it worse. If she tried to ask Felix about the event, he might clam up again, regressing the friendship. If she tried to ask Marinette about the event, the ravenette would probably become flustered or more hyper aware of Felix’s subconscious advancements, which, again, would probably regress the friendship. She was stuck either way.
“They’re driving me crazy.” She finally said, knowing the boys would hear her. If she couldn’t confirm her theories about Felix and Marinette’s interactions, she would rant about them to Claude and Allan instead.
As usual, Claude was the first to respond, glancing up from the party favors she had him arranging to ask, “What? Who’s driving you crazy?”
Allegra turned to him with a sigh and tilted her head ever-so-slightly in the “lovebirds’” direction. “They are. They’re acting differently than they were before, and I don’t know why.”
Claude straightened to glance over her shoulder for a moment, his brows furrowing slightly.
“You mean Felix and Marinette? They look the same to me.”
Allegra scrunched up her nose with a scoff. “What do you mean they look the same? You think Felix just laughs like that on a regular basis?”
Allan wandered over to their conversation then, also watching Marinette and Felix. The blond and ravenette didn’t even look up from the hearts on the wall, which was another big sign that they were becoming increasingly engrossed in each other. Felix was normally highly aware of his surroundings, as was Allegra, and he usually would have noticed the trio’s stares by now. But he didn’t, because he was too busy looking at Marinette instead.
“They have been a bit chummy lately.” Allan agreed, bringing a smile to Allegra’s lips. At least someone besides herself was paying attention.
“Well, yeah, but we knew that already.” Claude said. “They like each other, don’t they? Of course they would be chummy.”
“Yes, but not like that.” Allegra insisted. “Whether Felix likes her or not doesn’t change the fact that he’s technically being open around all of us right now. Isn’t that a bit strange to you? Besides, we still don’t actually know for sure that Marinette has a crush on Felix.”
Claude gave her a look. “What? I thought you said that she got all blushy and stuff when you talked about Felix at the sleepover.”
“She was, but Marinette gets blushy about a lot of things. And I was talking about how comfortable Felix is around her. That would probably make any girl blush.”
“She has a point,” Allan spoke up, “but I do think she might like him. She always gets this certain vibe when he’s around.”
“Oh, it’s definitely a possibility.” Allegra agreed. “You can totally spot the little ‘glow’ she gets when he talks with her, and even that’s improved since Felix changed things up.”
Claude’s eyes widened as he glanced at the pair again, seeming to study them closer this time. “Do you think she’s glowing more because he’s changed?”
“I’d say so,” Allegra answered, tapping her finger to her lip, “But what I want to know is why he changed and when. It can’t have been anything short of last week, because they only started acting this way recently, but what could have happened that we didn’t see? We’ve been with them the whole time.”
“Maybe they’ve been hanging out by themselves?” Allan suggested. “They’re not tied to us, you know.”
“I know, but wouldn’t we have heard about it? Marinette sends us pictures and such all the time. She would have mentioned her and Felix hanging out by themselves.”
Unless Marinette simply didn’t want to offend them, but Allegra still didn’t buy that explanation. As far as she knew, Felix and Marinette’s shift happened sometime after the sleepover, if not right after. It was as though they’d fallen asleep as usual, then woke up as different people entirely when it came to each other. So whatever happened must have happened during the sleepover.. but when? They were all together most of the night. Allegra supposed it could have happened during Hide and Seek, when they were all spread across the mansion, but moments like those were too quick and too tense and she certainly would have noticed Felix’s change in behavior then. That left her with.. A dead end, because the rest of the night, Marinette and Felix were always with one of the trio, even when they were all sleeping.
Unless the two hadn’t been sleeping..
“I don’t think we should overthink it.” Allan said, lightly nudging his shoulder into Allegra’s. “Marinette seems happier around Felix, and Felix is definitely happier around Marinette, so I say we take the win and let them keep getting closer on their own.”
“I agree.” Claude chimed in, surprising Allegra. He normally enjoyed meddling in others’ affairs as much as she did. “If they’ve made it this far without us getting too involved, they're bound to confess to each other at tomorrow’s party, especially with the ‘fake date’ we have planned for them.”
A smile found its way back onto Allegra’s lips. So he did intend to meddle. He just didn’t want to overthink Felix and Marinette’s sudden progress. She should have known.
“That reminds me: I still have to finish arranging that.” Allegra remarked.
She spun on her heel, leaving the boys to their tasks again, and began crossing the room to Felix and Marinette. Their chuckles and smiles quieted down as she approached, but she paid it no mind. Felix was mostly the one to stop laughing, anyway.
“Are you guys all done?” Allegra inquired, not missing the way Felix gently touched Marinette’s arm to help her get off the ladder.
Marinette flashed her a smile. “Yep! We just finished the last streamer. What’s next?”
Allegra let out a hum. “Well, Felix still has to write all of those ‘thank you’ letters for the party favors-”
A tired sigh left the blond.
“-and we have to set up the caterer’s foods, but they aren’t coming in till tomorrow. So I think we’re pretty much done. Claude and Allan are just now finishing their last tasks too.”
“Oh, good!” Marinette beamed. “The place looks great already. I can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions tomorrow.”
Allegra smiled. “Neither can I. By the way, since everything’s practically set up, you two can go ahead and stay home until the party starts. That way you both have time to get ready.”
A hint of concern flicked across the ravenette’s features as she knitted her eyebrows together. “Are you sure? I don’t mind coming in early with you guys.”
“I do,” Felix cut in, a slight smirk on his lips as he added, “and I will gladly take the extra free time.”
Allegra smirked as well, because she knew that comment had to be for Marinette’s viewing pleasure. He wouldn’t have had a smirk otherwise, nor would he have held that mischievous glint in his eyes.
Of course, Marinette breathed out a chuckle and briefly rolled her eyes, capturing Felix’s attention immediately. She then offered Allegra a meaningful smile.
“Well, if you change your mind, you can always text me.”
“Of course, but in case I don’t, why don’t you have Felix pick you up for the party tomorrow? Since you’re both not going to be arriving until later.”
Marinette and Felix exchanged a look, as though they were silently asking each other’s opinions, and Allegra had to hold back a snort. They were already reading each other and communicating in their own way. It was too cute and all too obvious. How did Claude not notice the difference earlier?
“I wouldn’t mind if you need a ride,” Felix finally spoke, pulling his shoulders up in a slight shrug, “but it’s your decision.”
Allegra swallowed a coo and glanced to the side, because this person in front of her who used to be dead-set on not helping anyone or scowling the whole way was being incredibly considerate, and she desperately needed a before-and-after video.
Marinette smiled up at him. “A ride would be nice, thanks. That way I don’t have to bother Maman or Papa about taking me at the end of their work shift.”
It was just the answer Allegra wanted to hear. Felix will be the first one to see Marinette in her new dress, and he will have plenty of time to become flustered over it during their drive to the party. Missing Felix’s face when he went to fetch Marinette was going to be a shame- since he himself mentioned how stunning she would look -but if they were lucky, perhaps he’ll still be wearing the expression when the two arrive.
“Great! I’ll call my driver so we can start getting ready to leave then.” Allegra said with a smile.
Marinette nodded. “Sounds good. I’ll go grab my purse and put up the ladder.”
“I’ll put up the ladder.” Felix cut in, already moving to close it.
A frown tugged at the corner of her lips. “Are you sure?”
“Yes. They like their tools to be put back a certain way.”
“Oh, okay. Thanks, then.”
Allegra watched Marinette walk off, feeling a fresh wave of determination.. Gosh, they were already acting like they were in love with each other. Well, Felix was at least. Marinette was about that kind to anyone. Either way, things were going smoothly now, and it should only take a carefully-timed push for the two to really get the ball rolling.
Valentine’s Day, Marinette and Felix being dressed up, both of them being alone together while dressed up, the sudden closeness- finally, all of her plans were coming together. The only thing that could possibly make this better was if Cupid himself came out to see them swoon over each other.
That wasn’t going to happen, of course, but it didn’t need to, because Allegra was going to be glad to take his place.

I know she's basically got a "pink version of male love interest"-esque design, but I kinda dig Julie Su's design? She's just got this cool cyborg-punk lady look, and that shade of pink is nice.
I do like her. She’s very… “middle school cool.” She’s the type of character that a 13-year-old will think is the coolest character ever, and there’s always something charming about that
Also, as weird as the art in this issue was with the other female characters, I really liked the way Julie-Su was drawn? It’s funny because here Chris Allan drew her MORE like Knuckles than most artists, but this actually kinda works out. Julie-Su is supposed to be a somewhat insecure teenage girl who doesn’t really fit in anywhere, so drawing her more squat and less like a femme fatale really helps endear me to her
I mean the fact that she looks like that instead of giving her an exaggerated hourglass figure like every other character in this issue also kinda gives me some major trans vibes and that certainly helps lol. There’s even a scene I didn’t post where Julie-Su tries on that girly sun hat from the mannequin and gets all giddy about it and it’s like oh my god, like this could literally be a “trans girl tries on femme clothes for the first time and it makes her feels good about herself” scene
I can’t believe how relatable this is completely on accident

so to me, one of the hallmarks of a good piece of media is people willingly thinking about the characters after it’s over.
obviously, this isn’t like, a 100% success rate kind of thing. there are objectively good, enjoyable pieces of media out there that have no “fandom” type presence on the internet, because, while it exhibited great worldbuilding/storytelling/framing/what have you, it just wasn’t made up of the kinds of characters that people latch on to; the joke about avatar (2009) having less than 100 fics on ao3 despite being the best selling movie of all time for a solid decade is well known because of this phenomenon exactly. amazing cgi, solid plot, but at the end of the day, not that many people cared about jake sully. even still, i think this character-imprinting thing has an important, often overlooked role in intrinsically endearing people to movies that, outside of this factor, might be easily forgettable or even outright disliked.
case in point: my movie of the day/week/month (how often do i post on this blog, anyway?)....
that’s right, lads, today i’m going to talk about the lost boys.
if you’ve seen the lost boys, you’ll probably know that it’s not like, objectively, a masterpiece. in fact, if i were feeling particularly uncharitable, it would be easy for me to describe it as a fairly straightforward, low-budget horror b-movie, with a aesop-heavy and simplistic plot and a penchant for cheesy special effects, saved only by its rockin’ soundtrack.
...but i won’t.
i won’t, because using that description would leave out a detail i think it’s completely unfair of me not to touch on: the characters. i love them!! i was hooked from just about the very start of the movie by david’s creepy, affably evil leadership style, sam’s dorky little brother-ness, and michael’s 3cool5school airs. each of the characters, down to the frog brothers (named edgar and allan after the esteemed mr. poe, which really tickled me), the other lost boys, grandpa, lucy, and max, have their own distinct quirkiness that makes them memorable and draws me to want to explore more of their world, more of their stories.
not enough to watch the infamous direct-to-dvd sequels, of course, but you get what i’m saying.
there’s an old tip in writing that says something along the lines of “good characters can save a bad plot, but a good plot can’t save bad characters,” and that pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly on this movie. like, the plot itself is pretty much the message ‘peer pressure is bad’ wrapped up in some ugly monster makeup; not exactly cult classic material. however, like i’ve said, the characters and the fact that we get genuine, endearing interactions between them outside of just furthering the plot save it from the dumpster fire and, together, put together a story greater than the sum of its parts. no, it’s not a fuckin’ cinematic masterpiece by any stretch of the words, but it’s a fun movie, and there’s a reason i’ve watched it four times in the past three days, you know?
(a good chunk of that reason was me slowly losing my grip on my sanity as i frantically put in the dvd over and over again, desperately trying to make myself attracted to kiefer sutherland so i could enjoy the movie to the fullest extent of my ability. i’m proud to announce a perfect success rate, and a slightly degraded sense of taste in men, reflecting the completion of that goal.
if you too want to find something to lust after beyond his objectively ugly as sin face, trust me when i say it’s all in the voice. mmmmm)
my favorite thing that the lost boys did was the exploration of different types of friendship and familial bonds. that’s the most striking thing about the movie for me; not only are the characters individuals whom i would like to explore, their interactions with each other are touching and worth exploring in their own right. there’s definitely something about some stories that drives people to write fanfiction (or is that just me? ha ha), and imo, the lost boys totally has it. in fact, while the fandom is sitting pretty at 600+ fics on ao3 (take that, avatar), i was honestly sort of surprised there weren’t more, exploring all the interesting ‘what if’s’ the film presented, and expounding on the bonds that we got to see the effects of in the limited screentime we had.
what i liked about those bonds was that there were such a multitude of them. there were quite a few platonic bonds making up the crux of the movie (being, in my opinion, much more interesting than the main romantic bond which was explored through star and michael, although isn’t that kind of always the case in these 80′s teen movies? i can’t think of a single designated couple i was actually invested in except for veronica sawyer and jason dean... ferris bueller and sloane peterson, maybe? but i also feel like those two were making a cameron sandwich, so idk if it counts lol), but the way they were treated was cool in that they were unique: we got to see two different kinds of sibling bonds, with michael and sam emerson joking around in an easy, teasing way that totally screamed “wow, this movie was written by someone who actually has a brother” to me (isn’t it sad that some people have clearly never so much as seen a set of siblings in their life, judging by the way they write them?) while edgar and allan frog seem to take themselves more seriously, like a pair of army buddies, we got to see the pack-like bond of the lost boys and the (mostly) good-natured way they hazed michael into their group before things went to shit with them, we got to see star (and some of the lost boys, if you pay attention) being protective and maternal around laddie, and we got to see the uneasy alliance turned nerdy friendship between the frogs and sam. there are also three parent-child bonds that get explored, between lucy and her father (it’s a pretty sweet take on the kindhearted grown child taking care of senile-ish father thing) and lucy and her boys, each of which she has a distinct relationship with: sam is the baby, while michael she seems to level with and trust more, even after he starts getting into trouble and acting up.
then of course there are two (three, if you count the widow johnson/grandpa emerson subplot, which.... i totally do) romantic relationships: star and michael falling in a sort of love-at-first-sight passionate relationship that soon dooms mikey and eventually saves star, while lucy tries her best to get back into the dating game with max, who is nefarious, of course, but also a little bit sad. remember what i said about what-ifs? i would love to see a fic exploring what might have happened had max’s plan worked out after all, but i guess that’s neither here nor there.
not to be a blatant slash shipper jumping on any two male characters who move or anything, but i think possibly the most important/influential relationship in the whole thing was that between david and michael; michael, obviously, got drawn into the lost boys’ circle by his insta-attraction to star, but he sticks around because of david. he pretty much ignores star once they get to the cliff that night, his attention focused on david because he’s there, and he’s intense, and michael is kind of a dumb bi bitch totally captivated. he drinks max’s blood at david’s taunting, and in direct opposition to star’s advice. there’s a lot i could say on this subject but tbh i’m running out of steam, so that might be a thing for a whole different post.
basically, there are a lot of cool interactions in this movie, and i think a lot of film makers could take note of that. even critically acclaimed, award winning movies being made in today’s world tend to fail to hit that special note, that character-imprintation which makes the audience not only stay engaged to the end, but also to care. not every movie needs that, of course; not everything can launch a darkhorse fandom the way the lost boys has, and honestly, not everything should... unless it’s trying to cater to my interests, in which case, well.
if all movies were made to cater to my interests, i would have the time of my fucking life, but it’d probably be dark days for the rest of y’all.
thinking about it now, the lack of that element is kind of what makes me wary of the horror genre in the first place; i find so many of those movies just boring as all hell, because they’re too into the “scaring” thing without any of the “caring” thing. people, if we don’t care about the characters we’re watching, then who the fuck gives a shit if they get devoured by shitsucking vampires, anyway? finding the lost boys, a “horror” (i guess i use the term loosely) movie which relied heavily on those character interactions was honestly a godsend, because THIS is what i want to see more of. going down that line of thought, i think it’s honestly a shame and a half that the sequels which joel schumacher planned never got to see the light of day (and, of course, that we were instead left with the tribe, which for the life of me i refuse to fucking watch). the interactions between the lost boys could have been the most interesting part of the movie, if only they had been spotlighted a bit more. that would have been the case in the proposed prequel, the beginning, which would see the boys start out before they became vampires at all. reading about the script for that is honestly sending me, tbh. we could have seen that, and what we got instead were “sequels” that focused mainly on the frogs, when they connected to the original movie at all? where’s the fucking justice?
whatever. that’s the one thing about this franchise i never could stomach; all the damn frog brothers.
(till next time!)
#the lost boys#text post#i liked the frog brothers in the movie don't get me wrong it's just like#yknow how the real gh*stbusters cartoon was highkey ruined by the increasing prevalence of slimer as the show's run kept going#that's what the frog brothers are imo.

Chapter 5: Peanut Butter and Jealous (Spider-boy - Peter Parker x Stark!Reader)
A/n: Liz is also a sophomore in this story, not a Senior. Also, the Y/n character is not the usual girl next door kind considering the fact that she’s a Stark, she’s somehow the Blair Waldorf in her own world, but ya know... with an MCU twist (kinda lol)
PROLOGUE, CHAPTER 1, CHAPTER 2, CHAPTER 3, CHAPTER 4, CHAPTER 6, CHAPTER 7, CHAPTER 8, CHAPTER 9, CHAPTER 10, CHAPTER 11, CHAPTER 12, CHAPTER 13
Y/n scrambles to her feet helping Peter stand up from where they were laying. You fix your hair and put on your silk robe.
Peter can sense the horror-struck feature on your face. Y/n grabs Peter by the arm as the two of you head upstairs to your room.
“If you think my dad is scary, you should meet my mom. She can be quite hypercritical, so don’t hold it against her if she says something harsh. That’s why she’s friends with people from Vogue, they’re both just as horrifying.” Y/n explains as the two of you enter your room.
“Does May know that you’re here?” Y/n asks Peter.
“I told her I was going to crash at Ned’s place.” Peter replies.
“My mom is on her way up, I can’t let you just hang inside my room the whole time she’s here.” Y/n says.
“I know! Can’t you just distract her something? I’ll try to run to the elevator as fast as I can.” Peter reasons out.
“I don’t think you understand how elevators work. They make a sound whenever someone enters or leaves.” Y/n snaps.
“I better go check if my mom’s here.” Y/n tells him before opening the door.
“Don’t leave until I come back here okay?” You remind him before you hear the familiar elevator sound.
The footsteps of your mom’s heels click against the marble tiles.
“Helena, tell Y/n to hurry up. Today’s the annual Stark Industries brunch. Plus, Eloise and Nicholas are waiting for her inside the car.” Y/n’s mom’s commanding voice echoes in the foyer.
“They’re here for the weekend as well?” You run downstairs to see your mom standing by the main entrance.
“Why aren’t you dressed? The brunch is starting in 30 minutes.” Your mom scolds you
“Good morning to you too, mother.” Y/n greets the Impeccably dressed French woman who removes her sun glasses the second you get to her.
“Hello, sweetie! You look exhausted. Did your dad bore you to death with all those inventions he’s been making?” Y/n’s mom asks, opening her arms wide open as she hugs you.
“I went to a party last night, actually.” Y/n corrects.
“I know... Happy told me everything.” She says as the two of you pull away from the hug.
“Everything?” Y/n eyes shot wide open.
“He told me that you got drunk and passed out before he could fetch you.” Denise states.
Y/n lets out a sigh of relief after realizing that Happy didn’t mention the part with Peter.
“Yup! That’s what happened.” Y/n replies nervously.
“Gotta go freshen up a bit. Be right back. Brunch at the Plaza, right?” You inquire before quickly running up the stairs.
“I’m actually planning on leaving now.” Y/n’s mom’s stern voice echoes.
“Why don’t I just catch up with you guys there? I just need to bathe and change. Bye!” You run up to your room to see Peter standing in the middle of your room, half naked.
“Oh my god! Peter put on some clothes!” You cover your eyes.
“I don’t know where my clothes are! I can’t remember where I placed them. I have to go home, I forgot your dad’s brunch is today” He panics.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure my brother has spare clothes in his room. Okay, did everyone receive a secret message about the brunch but me?” Y/n grumbles, grabbing Peter by the arm as the two of you head to Nicholas’ room.
“You have a habit of grabbing me by the hand, you know that?” Peter asks, chuckling.
“Oh please, we both know you love it when I hold your arm.” Y/n sneers.
You roll your eyes and open the closet to see your brother’s collection of Prada Long sleeves.
“Excellent!” You grab the Prada white button downs and Navy blue blazer, and your brother’s favorite Ralph Lauren Cotton Chino pants.
“Since you liked our teenage night scene so much, it’s time to spend time the adults of the Upper East Side at brunch. Suit up, Parker.” Y/n hands Peter the outfit.
“What about my shoes?” Peter asks.
“Say no more. I’ve got you covered.” Y/n reassures him.
The hall is filled with food, from croissants and scones of different flavors to mixed fruits, the freshest yogurts and multiple choices of drinks, from juices to Moet champagne battles.
“Don’t draw attention to yourself. Stick with me, okay?” Y/n reminds Peter.
“Mr. Parker! I thought you didn’t want to attend... What are you doing here with my daughter?” Tony walks towards the two teenagers.
“Hi, dad.” You kiss your dad on the cheek.
“Sweetie, why don’t you go talk to your siblings for awhile? I need to talk to Peter.” Tony tells Y/n who is unsure.
“I won’t harm your pet, don’t worry.” Tony reassures his daughter before she walks away.
“What are you playing at, Parker? I thought you had feelings for someone else name... Liz was it?” Tony inquires, putting an arm around Peter.
“Sir, I can assure you, Y/n and I are just friends. She actually convinced me to go here actually. And how did you find out about Liz?” Peter furrows his eyebrows at Tony.
“I got it from your suit and that is beside the point. If I could prevent Y/n from growing up, I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’ve seen how boys look at her, how you look at her. She got all her good genes from me, not from her mother.” Tony explains.
“I can see that, Mr. Stark.” Peter just nods in agreement.
“I know everything, Mr. Parker. I also know that you tried to make a move on her at some party.” Tony says sternly.
“Tony!” A male voice calls him.
“We’ll continue this discussion later.” Tony walks away.
‘Shit. I knew this was going to get messy. I just didn’t think it would get messy this quickly.’ Peter thinks to himself.
“Peter! Hi!” A voice interrupts his thoughts.
“Finally, someone normal.” He mutters.
“Oh hey!” Peter smiles at the person who called him.
On the other side of the room:
Y/n is about to walk towards the Stark table when the three friends stop her.
“Thank god we found you.” Tina sighs.
“Why? What’s going on?” You ask.
“It’s kinda coincidental that we were talking about Liz last night when...” Eliza doesn’t finish her sentence, instead looks at what’s behind Y/n.
You turn around to see Liz and her mom talking to someone.
“What is she doing here?” You ask, facing your friends.
“His father owns a Salvage company that works with your father actually. I’m kinda surprised she’d be here.” Tina states.
“I think Peter has a thing for her. I need you girls to distract him for me. I’ll go talk to Liz.” Y/n tells the three girls whose eyebrows are raised.
“What? He has a thing for Liz and you know how we operate.” Y/n sneers.
“Looks like we’re a bit late with the plan.” Maddie tells Y/n.
You turn around the third time to see Peter and Liz talking, smiling at one another.
“Unbelievable.” Y/n mutters and walks towards the two.
“Hi, Liz! I’m so glad to see you! What are you doing here?” Y/n exclaims and hugs Liz in the process.
“My dad couldn’t go, so I was kind of forced to come today. Your family brunch is still glamorous as always.” Liz smiles at you as you let go.
“Thank you! I do hope you’re enjoying everything. By the way, the girls are also here.” Y/n looks at Tina, Eliza, and Maddie and signals them to walk towards Y/n, Peter, and Liz.
Peter can sense the tension radiating from Y/n. His phone vibrates and sees Ned’s text about the Vulture and his men are stealing equipment from a truck.
As much as he loved spending time with Y/n, he can feel the socialites glaring at him, probably wondering whose kid he is or why he walked in with Y/n Stark. Ned texting Peter about the Falcon is the perfect excuse to ditch the brunch.
Tina, Maddie, Eliza, and Liz start to converse.
“Can I borrow Y/n for a second?” Peter asks the girls.
Y/n smiles at Peter as he holds her arm and they move towards the door.
“I uhh... I have to go.” Peter tells Y/n.
“Now? Peter, you haven’t even eaten yet. I can call your Aunt May for you.” Y/n replies.
“I know, but I never told her that I’m going to the brunch today. She’s going to freak out.” Peter lies.
“You could’ve just told me you that you didn’t want to go here in the first place.” Y/n mutters, crossing her arms.
“Y/n... I’m so sorry. It’s just.... Our lives are so different. I can live without the fancy brunches, sports cars, and New York socialites, you can’t. I’m really sorry. I’ll talk to you soon, okay?” Just like that Peter leaves brunch, leaving Y/n disappointed and mad.
And nobody wants to see Y/n Stark when she’s mad.
“So Peter’s crush, Liz is the daughter of Mr. Toomes? New York is getting smaller.” Tony puts an arm around his daughter.
“Come on, you deserve a healthy breakfast.” Tony leads his daughter away from the door, knowing that Peter won’t come back after storming out.
Y/n releases herself from Tony’s hold and walks away.
“It still feels like a television show when I’m with her.” Tony whispers seeing his daughter stomping towards the family table. He couldn’t have his daughter any other way.
“Y/n!!” Tina calls you as she approaches the table, holding her Stella McCartney coat in one hand and her phone in the other.
“Unless you have something that is related to our math homework or anything that concerns my well-being. I’m not interested.” Y/n replies.
“Even better. A little birdie tells me that Liz is throwing a party tonight at her place.” Tina sits beside you, handing you her phone with a photo of the invitation.
“Hold on, Liz Allan? As in, Peter Parker’s crush, Liz Allan?” Y/n asks.
“Are we talking about Liz again?” Maddie chimes in, as she and Eliza, join in on the conversation.
“A little birdie told me she’s hosting a party tonight.” Tina tells them.
“Didn’t we just go to a party last Friday night? Why are we going to Liz’s place when she lives in Queens, oh and it’s a Wednesday night!” Eliza clarifies.
“Well, Think of it this way. Peter’s surely going to be there because of Liz. I say we crash her party.” Maddie shrugs her shoulders.
“Looks like our monthly dinner at The Plaza is postponed until further notice. Anyone up for a party in Queens?” Y/n smirks at her friends.
“I’m totally dreading the fact that Liz lives in Queens but I’m so in.” Eliza returns the smirk at Y/n who is looking down at the invitation.
“Wow, Liz never told us her house is huge.” Maddie sighs, looking at the bright lights coming out from the Modern house.
“Ready to crash the party?” Y/n asks the three girls who are all glammed up more than ever, ready to make a statement.
You and your friends walk in to see the party in full swing. The boys are starting to take notice, which is what you wanted in the first place, but the only boy you’re looking for in this party is Peter Parker.
Liz and the rest of her friends are seated on the floor and look like they’re playing spin the bottle.
“Oh my god, this party is just like the one we had in 7th grade. They’re clearly just looking for a reason to play 7 minutes in heaven.” Eliza mutters.
“Well well well! If it isn’t the Queen B of the Upper East Side. What, did you guys get bored at your 2-storey apartments and Prep school boys?” Flash looks up from where he’s seated.
Liz eyes shoot wide open upon seeing her four former friends from Spence.
“Cool party you got here Liz.” Y/n smirks at Liz who stands up to welcome them.
“Y/n, girls! What are you doing here?” Liz smiles at the four of them awkwardly.
“We were supposed to have dinner at the Plaza, but we wanted to stop by to our friend Liz’s place, surprise surprise, you’re actually in the middle of a party.” You reply.
You look at your friends and raise your eyebrows at them slightly, signaling them to bombard Liz. It’s your time to find Peter.
You see Peter holding a red solo cup, standing beside Ned who is wearing a weird hat. Instead of making your presence known, you hide behind the wall that separates the kitchen and the walkway.
“So when are you going to ask Liz to homecoming?” You hear Ned ask Peter.
“I don’t know.... She’s THE Liz Allan, I’ve been longing to ask her out since freshman year and then there’s Y/n who is so amazing-” A smile forms on your lips upon hearing Peter’s words.
“-But I just can’t handle the pressures of liking a Stark. Liz is the girl of my dreams, you know that right?” Peter sighs.
It’s time.
“That’s not what you told me when you kissed me last Friday.” Y/n sneers, interrupting Peter and Ned’s conversation.
Ned’s eyes widen, looking at both you and Peter.
“I’m gonna go.... polish my hat.” Ned runs away slowly.
“Y/n, I can explain.” Peter sighs.
“Explain what? You already made it very clear that I’m nothing compared to THE Liz Allan. I already lost the guy I liked because of Liz back when she was still at Spence, now it’s come back to haunt me again, and this time I thought I actually had a shot.” Y/n bites her lips to stop herself from crying.
“Thank you, Peter. Thanks for bringing me back to those days. I always have been just second best after Liz Allan.” You storm out of the house.
“Y/n wait!” Peter runs after you, grabbing you using his web, you spinning into his arms.
“I like you, I really do. I’m just.... confused. This whole Spiderman thing just made things difficult for me.” He holds you tight in his arms.
“Let me make it easier for you then. Enjoy your homecoming, Peter.” You push him away, heading towards your car.
‘Get out of Liz’s house. We’re done.’ Y/n texts the girls.
Peter Parker won’t know what hit him.

I was tagged like 4 months ago by both @theasocialqueen and @art-is-blind for almost identical asks so I put all questions together (omg sorry this is so late, I also have one from five months ago but school has been so busy and I constantly forgot etc etc, but now I felt like doing a ask-answering night :p )
relationship status: single
favourite colour: every colour that nature can give us: the orange and pink in sunsets, the dark blue of the night, the fresh green of grass in the morning,…
last song I listened to: Today 4 U from the musical Rent but I don’t like most of the music from Rent but I wanted to see if it was really as bad as I remembered
last tv show: Star Trek of course :p
first fandom: Harry Potter! Though I didn’t knew about a fandom then, I was barely six the first time I read the books. But I think it was Sherlock that got me in the concept of fandoms!
hobbies: Piano, saxophone, band, reading, drawing, finding the most awful puns that have a connection with the things we learned that day at uni
books that I’m currently reading: The Silmarillion, but also still Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy! I think I’m about half way in the series now. Edgar Allan Poe’s Complete Poetical Works, Romeo And Juliet (the English play version, I’m reading it for about two years now I think lol) and Hoe word ik Einstein of Da Vinci. Some of those I really need to start again, I already did that for The Silmarillion lol
worst thing I’ve ever eaten: probably witloof in the oven? And witloofsoup
favourite books: Harry Potter, Brief voor de koning, Hasse Simonsdochter,...
favourite places: The library of Arenberg, the castle of my old school, the place where we have rehearsals with the band, the greenhouses on Arenberg (we only went there once but I absolutely loved it!), (a certain camping in) Corsica,...
I tag @fvfvxcvxcv and @onbestaand, if you want of course ^^

1, 12, 14 &19 :)
from this post
1. if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
ok will doubtless miss stuff but
read: t.s. eliot (esp prufrock, the waste land and preludes), f. scott fitzgerald (esp the great gatsby, but this side of paradise and the beautiful and the damned both also massive affected me), philip larkin (it is exceptionally difficult to choose specific poems as he may be my favourite poet of all time, but high windows and an arundel tomb changed my life), virginia woolf (mrs dalloway especially but also to the lighthouse), sand and foam - kahlil gibran, william blake (esp songs of innocence and experience ofc), rainer maria rilke (again, literally anything by rilke, but sunset was my first ever favourite poem when i was 9 or 10 and letters to a young poet is stunning and completely beyond description. edward snow’s translation of the book of hours is also beautiful), as i walked out one evening - w. h. auden (i think i was maybe 10 or 11 when i first read this poem, and it contained my first ever favourite stanza: ‘o stand, stand at the window / as the tears scald and start; / you shall love your crooked neighbour / with your crooked heart.’), jerusalem – jez butterworth, raymond carver (esp cathedral, why don’t you dance?, and i could see the smallest things), 1984 – george orwell, the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde - robert louis stevenson, oscar wilde (esp the picture of dorian gray and de profundis, which near ruined me but it’s also one of the most moving pieces of writing i’ve ever had the privilege to read. the importance of being earnest and an ideal husband as well), the rime of the ancient mariner – coleridge, to his coy mistress – marvell, to the virgins – herrick, the road not taken and stopping by woods on a snowy evening – robert frost, somewhere i have never travelled,gladly beyond and [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] – e. e. cummings, percy shelley (esp one word is too often profaned), franz kafka (esp the metamorphosis), the raven – edgar allan poe, frankenstein – mary shelley, keats (esp ode to a nightingale - !!!!!!! - but also ode on a grecian urn, la belle dame sans merci, bright star…)
watch: bright star, wilde (1997), the forever dolphin love music video, these videos have been hugely influential on me this year, i hugely repsect artaud and theatre of cruelty (wish i’d seen this live), a production of jez butterworth’s jerusalem, any wilde play, berkoff’s the metamorphosis and the trial. also tangled and the hunchback of notre dame (disney version) lol. i’m pretty out of ideas tbh i don’t rly watch much tv/ youtube/ netflix etc. i like most kinds of theatre tho
listen to (not necessarily my favourite songs/ artists, but these have all had a huge influence on me at some point in my life and a few hav stories behind them): ms – alt-j, minipops 67 [120.2] [source field mix] – aphex twin, chopin’s nocturnes, bloc party (especially this modern love, positive tension, uniform, signs, ion square and eden), jesus christ – brand new, connan mockasin (esp megumi the milkyway above, faking jazz together and forever dolphin love (inc the music video)), crystal castles (esp enth and insulin and concrete and fleece and sadist), diiv (esp doused, oshin (subsume), and valentine), oh devil – electric guest, one more robot / sympathy 3000-21 – the flaming lips, foals (esp hummer, alabaster, 2 trees, spanish sahara and what went down), grimes (esp kill v. maim, venus fly, go, genesis, world
12. dog person or cat person?
cat person if i had 2 pick but i also love dogs!!!
14. are you a musician?
i’m grade 8 cello but haven’t played v much this year unfortunately bc after i did all the grades a levels, deadlines, learning to drive etc became more pressing and urgent and i’ve also been focusing as much time as i can on lit. additionally i play piano and self-taught guitar, and used to write songs and perform covers but not so much anymore, i prefer poetry lol. so in short my musicianship’s a little dusty
19. which Harry Potter house would you be in? or are you a muggle?
ravenclaw my dudes!!!
thank u so much for sending anon :+) sorry abt the length of the answer

Crossing a Line (18)
(I’m just gonna keep changing the title set up until I’m satisfied lol anyway, enjoy reading chapter 18 of the Le Paon AU as the tension rises!)
Part 1 / Part 17 / Part 19
The lead of the pencil scratched across the paper as Marinette drew another flower. True to his word, Felix had passed her classroom after each period, subtly giving her a nod or wave to acknowledge the check in. Marinette decided to mark off the classes by drawing flowers. That way, anyone- *cough* Alya *cough* -watching would think she was just doodling. The strategy’s worked well so far, and now she only had one class left before lunch.
Marinette pulled her lip between her teeth and reached down to fiddle with the peacock miraculous again. She’d hardly let it go since her confrontation with Felix. He seemed genuinely surprised about the consequences of the wish, but she’d seen too many ‘genuine’ things from him to trust that again. So It helped ease her mind a bit knowing that Felix was currently powerless. If he did intend on twisting the odds again, he’d have to jump through a few more hoops than before.
That begs the question, though: If Felix was telling the truth, what happens next? She’ll get back her miraculous and heal Emilie, but will Felix keep fighting with Hawk Moth? What if he still felt a morbid sense of loyalty towards the terrorist? What if Hawkmoth pressures him to get the miraculous anyway as payback for the peacock miraculous? Does this whole fiasco boil down to what Hawkmoth really wants?
“Hey, girl! You ready for lunch?” Alya asked, drawing her from her thoughts.
Marinette blinked. “Lunch?”
“Yeah, it’s time for our lunch break.”
Marinette turned to the rest of the class, who were already filing out of the classroom. Was class over? She didn’t realize she’d spaced out that long.
“Anyway, I was thinking of the park? We haven’t eaten there in a while.” Alya continued thoughtfully.
“Oh, actually,” Marinette said, “I’m eating lunch with Felix today.”
She held back a wince when Alya’s gaze snapped to hers. “You’re what?”
“Yeah..” Marinette sighed, standing up to gather her things. “He- um -we have a few fashion things to talk about? So we decided to eat lunch together.”
“And when were you going to tell me?” Alya asked, clearly offended that she’d been left out of the loop.
“It only just happened this morning.” Marinette offered sheepishly. “It’s really not that big of a deal.”
Please don’t make it that big of a deal.
“What? Girl, that’s a big score! Even if it’s not an official date, it’s still lunch together!” Alya insisted, now getting giddy with the news. Great. “I’ll forgive you for forgetting to tell me, but I want all the deets afterwards as an apology!”
Marinette plastered on a smile. She couldn’t blame her best friend for accidentally hitting a sore spot. Her romantic feelings for Felix fading away because of a betrayal involving both of their miraculous is a scoop that even Alya couldn’t have guessed. Marinette didn’t guess it either. “Sure, Alya.”
The two girls said their goodbyes, and Alya pranced off to tell the rest of the girl gang about Marinette’s “unofficial date” with Felix. It was a hollowing feeling, watching everyone get to live their lives as if nothing earth-shattering had happened. Marinette was barely holding it together, fueled by her rage and determination alone, and no one knew. Well, no one except Felix, but he’d been the cause of the damage. That wasn’t exactly a comfort for her. Will she have to act like nothing’s happened between them for the rest of her life? That will be hard considering Alya and the others are still trying to push them together.
Marinette checked her phone as she walked towards the cafeteria. She’d tried to call Chat Noir as Jiāng húlí several times, but he must not have been transformed. It went straight to voicemail. She had to give Master Fu the fox miraculous soon after, so she crossed her fingers that he might get the message of her distress and contact her.
A part of her wondered what he would say if he knew what had happened. He’d been the first to warn her, after all. He told her that Le Paon wasn’t to be trusted, and what did she do? She threw away the statements without a second thought. All because of some fickle emotions. At least she’d learned her lesson: Villains can shine and sparkle like heroes (or more) as much as they want, but at the end of the day.. At the end of the day, they’re just that. Villains.
Felix may sound sweet and worried, and she may still be in love with him to an agonizing amount, but Marinette is committed to not learning that lesson a second time.
~~~~~~
Felix brushed a hand against his vest as he slipped his tablet into his bag. He hadn’t realized how accustomed he’d grown to wearing the peacock miraculous. Without it on, his outfit felt.. incomplete.
“Do you think we can make it to that restaurant in time?” Allegra asked to no one in particular, wrapping her purse around her shoulder.
“If Felix gets his driver to take us.” Claude replied with a smile.
Felix glanced up from his bag. “Oh, I can’t join you for lunch today.”
Claude snorted. “Come on, Fe, you can’t get out of it that easily.”
“Yeah, you should have learned that when you tried a lame excuse last semester.” Allan added with a smile.
Felix rolled his eyes. “No, I really can’t. I’m having lunch with Marinette today.”
The group paused, their eyes widening from shock.
Then-
“What?!” Claude burst out.
“You finally got together!” Allegra cheered.
“When did that happen?” Allan asked.
Felix waved down their reactions, along with his own guilt. “It’s not like that. In fact, I..”
Her near-murderous glare resurfaced in his mind.
“I don’t think it’s going to work out between us.” He admitted softly.
The group frowned, each sharing a look with the other.
“But you guys are perfect together.” Allegra attempted to console. “You’ve gotten along wonderfully so far.”
“She accepted your offer to lunch, right?” Claude added. “That’s a good sign.”
Felix held back a bitter laugh. They were not talking about the same situation.
Allan gave him a gentle pat on the back. “Don’t worry, man. If you love her, and she loves you, everything will turn out fine.”
But is love enough to overcome betrayal?
He hoped he was wrong when he said he didn’t think so.
“I’ll see you after lunch.” Was all Felix ended up muttering. Marinette would be waiting for him. No need to break her trust in him further, if that was even possible.
“Bye..” Allegra said, a hint of concern in her tone. Felix was concerned too. Not only had he lied to Father about his knowledge of Ladybug’s identity, he had secretly stolen Ladybug’s earrings, and now he was giving them back, all without Father's consent. This was no doubt the best course of action, but that didn’t mean the consequences would be any less severe. Felix imagined he’d be pulled from school when Father found out and grounded from everything. Marinette would most certainly be banned from their premises a second time.
He’d backed himself into a corner, and the only option now was to race against the clock and heal Emilie before Gabriel could figure out their plan and unleash his rage.
-
Courage was the first thing to go as Felix approached Marinette’s table. She’d chosen to eat outside, taking the table furthest from the school grounds. It gave them the most privacy without actually leaving. He wouldn’t expect anything less from the clever Ladybug, but it pained him that she felt the need to take such precautions.
Quietly, he set his bag on the ground next to the chair across from her and sat down. Marinette didn’t react. She merely sat there scribbling something in a notebook. He peered over the paper as best he could without standing and managed to catch a couple of words.
Escape Plan.
Felix looked down at his hands, shame churning and twisting inside him. So there really was no trust left between them, huh?
“How were your classes?” He asked, if only to break the soul-crushing silence.
Marinette shot him a glare immediately. “Don’t act like you care.”
Felix tensed. “I-” I do care. So much. “I was just trying to make conversation.”
Marinette scoffed and set down her pencil. Or rather, slammed it on the table in annoyance. “You want to talk? Fine. Who’s Hawkmoth? How did you two become partners?”
Felix grimaced. She always managed to ask the hardest questions. “That’s a.. long story.”
Marinette narrowed her eyes, and he could tell he’d given the wrong answer. What else could he do, though? Hawkmoth was his Father. Felix couldn’t just give him up.
“Fine.” She said, pure agitation in her voice now. “How did you know who I was? What gave me away.”
“Ah, well..” He might as well tell her, right? They both knew each other’s identities so what was the harm? “Yesterday, after the akuma attack, I saw you swinging off alone and thought I’d follow you-”
“Wait.” Marinette interrupted, her eyebrows knitted together. “Did you say yesterday?”
Felix nodded. “We’d been planning to follow you for a while, but Chat Noir always got in the way. Yesterday was the first time I’d been able to catch you alone. That’s when I saw you transform.”
A mix of emotions washed over her features, mostly skepticism. “So you mean to tell me that you haven’t known Marinette was Ladybug this whole time? That you only found out last night, a few hours before you stole my miraculous?”
Now Felix was frowning. “Yes? Did you think I would risk saving you or coming to your house as Le Paon if I knew you were Ladybug? I can be reckless, but I’m not that reckless.”
Marinette didn’t reply. She stared down at her notebook, lost in deep thought. When she finally spoke, though, it was soft, and he almost had to lean forward to hear it.
“Then why?”
“Pardon?” What did she mean ‘why’?
Marinette looked up, and Felix’s heart sank when he saw the tears brimming in her eyes.
“Why?” She repeated, harsher and louder than before. “Why waste all those nights coming to my house or talking with me at school if you didn’t know who I was? What was the point if not to get close enough to take the earrings for the wish?”
“Marinette, I..” Felix trailed off, frozen by her sudden grief. She looked so desperate, so broken, and he did this to her.
He reached out to her, touched her hand to comfort or relieve or something, but she pulled away.
“Why say you love me,” She whispered, looking back down at her notebook, “if you didn’t mean it?”
Felix almost shot out of his chair at the accusation. Was this what she’d been telling herself since yesterday? That all of their times together, their not-quite-dates, their kiss, his love.. was some sort of elaborate lie to get jewelry? No wonder she was furious! He’d be beside himself if he found out she was lying to him like that!
“Marinette,” He began carefully, “I know our friendship is currently unpleasant and shaky at best, but please trust me when I say that I meant every word I said to you.”
Marinette sniffed and brushed a few stray tears away. Each one dropped another anchor on Felix’s heart.
“How can I?” She asked after a moment. “How can I trust you when you didn’t trust me? We spent months together, Felix! We had sleepovers and deep, late night talks and ate ice cream together and supported each other over everything. After all of that, why would you-” Her quiet sob cut her short, and she shook her head. “Why didn’t you just talk to me?”
Now that was a question. Why didn’t he just talk to her? He thought he was avoiding hurt by taking the earrings quickly, but that obviously failed. He may have avoided physical injuries, but he’d much rather those at this point.
No, the real reason was that Felix didn’t want to be torn over whether he should continue to save his mother or not. He had the miraculous. He had the wish. He saw the light at the end of the tunnel and didn’t want to know if the light would be dimmer than he’d originally thought.
“I was a coward.” He admitted, burying his hand in his hair. “After missing my Mother and wishing her back for so long, I was afraid of what you would tell me when I told you the truth. I didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that the miraculous might not bring her back.”
Gosh, he’d made so many mistakes. He shouldn’t have accepted the peacock miraculous. He shouldn’t have let his Father terrorize the city for so long in a misguided cause. He shouldn’t have procrastinated about talking to Ladybug for possible peace. He shouldn’t have kept fighting when he learned that Adrien was Chat Noir. He shouldn’t have taken Marinette’s earrings when he learned the truth. He just shouldn’t have.
Marinette sighed, bringing him from his thoughts. “Okay.”
Felix’s eyes widened. “Okay?”
Marinette brushed the last bit of tears from her eyes and nodded. “I can’t say that I completely trust you yet, but.. If you’re serious about this, I’m willing to give it a shot.”
Felix’s heart skipped a beat.
“T-That’s all I need!” He promised. Talking with him during lunch had been better than he’d dreamed. Giving him another chance was an absolute miracle for him. “Thank you.”
Marinette didn’t answer. With the conversation more or less finished, she pulled out her lunch box to start eating. It was then that Felix’s own stomach growled, and he coughed. The tension from their predicament caused him to forget the reason they were able to meet outside and talk in the first place.
“So.. I have a question.” Felix said as he pulled out his own lunch. “If that’s alright with you, of course.”
Marinette briefly glanced up from her soup. “..I guess.”
Felix drew in a small breath. “Assuming you didn’t follow me like I did you.. how did you know who I was?”
Marinette jokingly sucked in a breath between her teeth, giving a ‘yikes’ expression. “Yeah~ my discovery wasn’t as nice as a simple stalking.”
Felix smiled. Seeing her jest brought him a small, renewed sense of hope that everything might turn out okay between them after all. “So? What happened?”
“Remember that night you came to my house after getting shot?”
He actually grimaced and touched his side. “Do I? If I didn’t have Duusu, I’d still be wincing every time I breathed.”
“About that..” Marinette said, pulling on her pigtail slightly. “I may or may not have actually been the one to heal you.”
Felix blinked. That.. that made a lot of sense. “But Duusu never mentioned anything about you healing me?”
Marinette dropped her pigtail to push her fingers together as she explained, “When you passed out on my bed, you ended up detransforming too. That’s how I figured out your identity. Of course, I freaked out a bit, but you were still bleeding so I put that aside for the time being.”
A small smile crossed Felix’s lips. Only Marinette could push through a ‘huge reveal’ like that and talk as if it were nothing.
“It was around that time that my powers activated and healed your wound. Duusu was very sweet about the whole thing, and after a small conversation, she promised not to say anything unless you asked specifically.” Marinette finished. “You have no idea how frustrating it was. I couldn’t talk to you about the miraculous because I wasn’t ready to reveal myself yet, but you wouldn’t talk to Ladybug.”
Felix let out a sheepish laugh. “Right.. I’m sorry I put you through that.”
Marinette shrugged. “Can’t take it back now.”
Felix nodded. No matter the amount of regret and guilt welling up inside him, he couldn’t change the past. He supposed he could soothe himself by saying it wasn’t all bad, though. Taking the peacock miraculous was undoubtedly a horrible decision, but it led to him seeing Marinette on a more personal level, which then led to a more personal friendship between them. Well, for him it did. She wasn’t aware of his identity at the time.
“Hold on.” Felix spoke up, sitting up slightly at his miniature revelation. “You said you figured out my identity when I passed out from the gunshot. That means you knew who I was when I kissed you.”
A blush bloomed across Marinette’s cheeks. “Well.. yes.”
“And you kissed me back.”
Her blush deepened. “Yep.”
Felix’s heart pounded in his chest. “So.. what does that mean?”
It was selfish and unfair to ask her such questions during these trying times, and some might say it should be obvious by now, but he wanted- no, he needed the confirmation. Did she love him or not?
“I..” Marinette fiddled with her utensil as she searched for words. “It’s complicated. I can’t say that I don’t love you-”
Felix sucked in a quiet breath.
“-but it’s different now.” She answered honestly. “I just.. I need time. I’m still on the edge because of what you did, you know?”
“Take all the time you need.” Felix responded, hoping his eagerness didn’t bleed through his voice. Marinette loved him! I mean, they’ve already kissed, like, twice, but still! Just to hear it from her lips made his heart nearly burst.
A small smile graced Marinette’s lips, and she went back to eating, as Felix did a moment later. It was hard to eat when one’s entire body was buzzing with euphoria, though.
The bell rang a few minutes later, causing them to say their farewells to each other and separate. Felix knew there were still a decent amount of trials left to face before this was over, but after that confession.. He couldn’t help feeling a tad optimistic.
~~~~~~
It was commonplace for students to flood out of the classroom at the end of their last class, and although Marinette usually picked up the pace to leave, she was certain she’d made record time that day. Felix must have had the same idea, because he was at her side within seconds as well. She offered him a small glance, acknowledging his presence, but nothing more.
The conversation they’d shared over lunch had been relieving to say the least. When he essentially told her that he still loved her, she nearly sank to the floor with the amount of weight that’d been suddenly lifted from her shoulders. That meant this dwindled down to Felix wanting to save his Mother and making the wrong decision to do so. However, Marinette didn’t want to let her guard down just yet. She had no way of knowing how informed Hawkmoth was on the situation. Even if Felix means well, there might be traps lying ahead of her at the Agreste Mansion that he’s unaware of.
“By the way,” Felix spoke up, earning her gaze again, “Father may or may not have banned you from our house after your last visit, meaning we’ll have to be careful about your entrance.”
Marinette pursed her lips. That probably shouldn’t surprise her. “When did this ‘banishment’ happen?”
Felix’s eyes flicked up briefly in thought. “Uh.. I think a few weeks ago? I meant to tell you before today, but things kept coming up.”
Marinette hummed, knowing the exact ‘things’ he was referring to.
“Oh, Marinette’s coming with us today?”
Marinette turned to the new voice and saw Adrien exiting the classroom. She almost forgot that he’d be riding with them.
“She wanted to borrow a book from our Library,” Felix answered smoothly, “So I invited her over.”
Adrien smiled. “Great! I have to practice piano, but I trust Felix to help you out.”
“Thanks.” Marinette said politely. I hope I can trust him too.
“So how did you get Father to agree to this?” Adrien asked next, mostly facing Felix now.
Marinette didn’t miss the subtle look of agitation that Felix shot his brother.
“He doesn’t know.”
Adrien’s eyes widened, and an amused smirk slipped onto his lips. “Oh? How do you plan to get her inside then?”
Marinette crossed her arms, a smirk of her own creeping up. She’d like to know that answer as well.
Felix playfully rolled his eyes. “I have my ways.”
-
A shiver ran up Marinette’s spine as Felix led her through the back entrance to the Agreste Mansion. Who would’ve thought that the only secret way in and out was a walk-in freezer that connected to the outside world? It made her wonder how Felix managed to come across this little escape tactic. Was it pure coincidence? A mere observation when orders arrived? Or had he been actively searching for a hidden exit?
Goosebumps crawled across her skin, and she gave in slightly to the cold, letting herself shudder and rubbing her hands against her biceps for warmth.
Felix glanced over his shoulder at her, seeming blissfully untouched by the drop in temperature. “Are you cold?”
“What? Being cold in a freezer? Of course not! I was just about to take off my jacket.” Marinette retorted.
Felix chuckled, his breath clouding in front of him. “I see we’ve resorted to sarcasm now? You must truly be at your limit.”
“Yes, it’s been a long day for all of us, I’m sure.” Marinette replied, pulling her jacket tighter around her.
Felix reached ahead and pushed open another metal door, revealing the kitchen area of the Mansion on the other side. Marinette didn’t hesitate to dash through the doorway. She shuddered again as the room temperature wrapped around her, neutralizing the previous chill of the air. Sweet, blessed heat.
“Is that better?” Felix asked, closing the metal door behind him.
Marinette nodded. “Much better, thank you.”
Felix offered a smile. “Of course. The library’s right around the corner.”
The two made their way out of the kitchen and down the hall. Felix checked for Gabriel’s secretary or Gabriel himself, and when he called the all clear, they slipped into the library together.
Marinette caught a glimpse of Adrien walking up the stairs as they moved. He noticed her too and shot her a wink. Marinette allowed herself a small smile at the sight. At least Adrien wasn’t knee-deep involved in this miraculous mess.
“Thank you for doing this.” Felix commented as he walked to one of the aisles. “It really does mean the world to me that you’re still willing to help Mother after everything we’ve done.”
Marinette shrugged, not missing the fact that he said ‘we’. It seemed strange that he would group Hawkmoth in with his actions in relation to his mother, as if this might have been a goal for his partner as well. “I’m the hero of Paris, right? I have a responsibility. I can’t just turn my back on the people who need me.”
Felix nodded. “Right..”
He stopped at the end of an aisle and brushed his fingers across the second to top shelf. Once he got to a certain point, Felix stopped and pulled out a couple of books. Behind the books lay a rectangle outline on the back of the shelf. Marinette watched with awe as he easily pulled the rectangle out of the wall, revealing a small drawer.
“When did you make that?” She asked, marveling at the detail.
“Well, when you have a Father like mine, you learn to-” Felix stopped short, his body stiffening.
Marinette frowned and took a step forward. “Felix? Are you okay?”
Felix didn’t respond, instead staring down at the drawer in disbelief.
“They’re.. They’re gone.”
Marinette’s heart stopped.
“Gone?” She repeated. “What do you mean gone?”
“I-I mean gone!” Felix said, his voice quickly rising in panic. “They were right here! I put them in this pocket and went to bed, and I haven’t touched them since!”
Marinette to control her breathing as she took in his words. If the earrings weren’t here, where were they? “Felix, if this is some kind of trick-”
“No! I swear they were right here!”
“Indeed they were.”
Marinette’s blood ran cold when Gabriel’s voice rose behind them. Felix shot up as well, pure terror exploding across his face. The sight unnerved her to the core. She’d never seen Felix so scared.
“I’ll admit I’m impressed.” Gabriel mused. “That little drawer of yours is a magnificent hiding place. Had it not been for our security cameras, I don’t believe I would have found it.”
Marinette’s gaze flicked to the ceiling, where a tiny camera was placed. A touch of annoyance swirled through her mind. She should have known there would be cameras everywhere.
“I have to say I’m disappointed, Felix.” The man continued. “I gave you the opportunity to help your poor, sick Mother, and what do you do? You lie and go behind your own Father’s back. I wasn’t even aware you knew who Ladybug was, let alone that you got her earrings.”
Despite the fresh wave of adrenaline coursing through her, along with the steadily growing horror, Marinette turned to face Gabriel. The news that Felix had been acting of his own accord the entire time surprised her, but that wasn’t what caught her attention. Only two people aside from herself and Felix knew about Felix’s motives or the fact that he was Le Paon, and Gabriel Agreste certainly wasn’t Master Fu.
“Hawkmoth.” She said, her hands clenching at her sides. It wasn’t a question.
Gabriel looked down at her, a disturbing, small smile creeping onto his lips. He didn’t appear to be bothered in the slightest that she’d discovered his identity.
She felt Felix take a step closer to her.
“Ah, Mlle. Dupain Cheng.” Gabriel purred. His eyes shined with absolute glee in a horrible, psychotic way, like he’d finally lured his prey into the perfect trap. “I thought I made it quite clear that you are not welcome on my estate, but my son clearly has trouble following the rules. However, I have to wonder: Why would he bring you to the miraculous’ hiding place? Perhaps Felix decided to show me Ladybug’s identity after all.”
“Father that’s enough.” Felix stated sternly, finally regaining his voice. He stepped around Marinette, putting a make-shift barrier between her and Gabriel. “There’s no need to fight. Marinette has a solution to heal Mother without the wish! She just needs her earrings back to do it.”
Gabriel scoffed, his smile immediately fading. “Don’t be naive. She only wants her earrings back! You think she won’t say anything to get them?”
Marinette saw the edges of Felix’s expression fall.
“Isn’t it worth trying?” He continued, his voice falling from stern to pleading. “We can’t use the wish, or someone else will get hurt. There’s a curse that comes with it. If we save her life with the wish, someone has to take her place.”
“You wouldn’t sacrifice anything to have her back? To be a family again?” Gabriel shot back.
“Not when we don’t have to!” Felix countered. “We don’t even have Chat Noir’s ring yet. The least we can do is try to heal her peacefully without consequences!”
“So you’re choosing that brat over me? Your Father?” Gabriel asked, his eyes narrowing with disgust and disapproval.
Felix clenched his fists. “You’re choosing to sacrifice someone’s life over saving everyone!”
“No.” Marinette spoke up, having enough. How could a father pull their own son into terrorist attacks? How could he push Felix into danger time and time again with no remorse? It was unspeakable!
She stepped forward and stood tall as she continued, “He only wants the power. This stopped being about Emilie and family a long time ago.”
Gabriel scowled. “How dare you question my integrity! Losing Emilie was the worst thing that’s ever happened to me, and I will do anything to get her back!”
“Where are my miraculous?” She demanded, ignoring his ‘righteous fury’.
“Safe.” He responded sharply. “And out of your reach.”
“I won’t let you use the wish.”
A grim smile twisted onto Gabriel’s lips once more. “I’d like to see you try now that you’re powerless.”
Marinette was tempted to smile herself as she grabbed the peacock miraculous from her back pocket. “Not quite.”
Let’s see what Felix miraculous can really do.
