How many wips do you have currently?

let's say … three? docs are entitled: renaissance indulgence ch 5, sublimation, and body talk. (guess which one is like the sun lolol)

Which one are you finding the hardest to finish?

all of them? lol. sublimation is stalled because i successfully sublimated my troubles into the draft so far and now i don't really care, at the moment, to finish resolving the story. body talk is stalled because idk man i gotta be in a certain mood to write in a werewolf-esque a/b/o universe. renaissance indulgence is not necessarily stalled but it is slow going because god won't let me settle for a normal word count

What does it usually look like when inspiration strikes for you?

usually starts with "oh my god what IF —" and then a scramble for something, anything to write down the thing my brain just spontaneously birthed. alternate option, but far less frequently occurring: letting my mind wander on long airplane flights. do i look like im zoned the fuck out staring at the seat back in front of me? shhh. she's rotating blorbos in her head

Do you curate playlists for each fic or is your process different?

long ago i'd usually inadvertently associate a song w/ a fic (the reason why so many fic titles are modified song lyrics) but now i work on such fat ass stories that by the time i've completed a story (or a chapter) i've gone through at least 10 different album/genre phases

Do you go balls to the wall and write as you go or are you more organized?

organized chaos! there's a general map, and typically a final destination as well, but i let myself consider detours

1. How did you discover your fave?

spider-man movies -> video edits on insta/tiktok -> irondad fanfics on wattpad -> ao3 -> looking at starker in disgust -> becoming a part of the fandom

2. How long have you been a fan of your fave?

since homecoming! when it first came out but it took me a while to start interacting with the fandom

sorta! i don't actively write, just kinda drabble sometimes and i mostly dont post that, plus helping others write, i do have drafts that have been in my docs for years though

4. Do you like what is canon about your fave?

i do but i feel bad for him! poor guy has nobody :((, but before endgame i was in love with canon.

5. Tell some of your headcanons of your fave.

•his spider abilities on top of the originals like purring, cant have peppermint, hibernates, etc

•his love of animals, always stopping on patrols to say hi to them or trying to keep the strays he finss

•being worthy of mjolnir and picking it up without knowing the significance

•that he worms his way into the hearts of everyone he meets

no i dont, but i love seeing others fan art obviously!

sorta, it was very short and it was mostly in between going from irondad to starker as well as small breaks i took from everything lol

well they did have one with stephen and the other spidermen but i think it would be cool to see him really interacting w the women of marvel, aka kate, yelena or natasha (also rip), pepper, captain marvel, america chavez, etc.

Fanfiction I Read in 2020 

I didn’t realize how long this post was going to be until I was about halfway through. And it still is not even close to exhaustive. 

Soo, while 2020 has been such a tumultuous year one great thing about this time in my life is that I’ve had more time than ever to read. I am always so blown away by how much talent there is in fanfiction, so big, big thank you to all the writers that share their work and for whisking me away from real life into something far more pleasurable. It definitely makes my whole day when a fic I love has been updated, and I enjoy catching glimpses of rough drafts and the writing process via tumblr (I’m still trying to understand how their galaxy brains even work lolol). 

It’s long, but I am not putting it under a cut! They’re too good!

Long Fics (>= 50k words)

Roses From Where Thorns Grow by @bdafic​ [incomplete]- I started this a while ago, must have lost track of it, and then found it again this summer. Feels weird to type because this is not really me irl lol but accidental pregnancy fics are one of my favorites kinds of fics. Papa Solas is amazing. Somewhere, I once tagged something with ‘solas dad best dad’ and I think that probably sums up my feelings on the matter. The last chapter I read has left me anxious for more, so I’m eagerly awaiting what will likely be the first chapter posted in 2021. 

Ruins by @luzial [incomplete] - A real story of a couple who broke up, fought each other for twenty years, got sent back in time, and are now trying to make things work again ;) Lavellan here is older and wiser in all the ways that matter, and Solas is... well Solas in many ways is everything we wish he would (and could) be now. Had the most wonderful realization that I somehow missed the last chapter that apparently came out on my birthday, so I know what I’ll be doing later.

Fen’Harel’s Teeth by @5lazarus​  [incomplete] - the conversations in this fic are one of my favorite parts. They’re in character, but they’re also just interesting to read. The words just fly across the page -- it’s smooth, seamless, pithy. I love politics and I love a main character who has her wits about her -- both are in this fic. Also features fatherly!Solas, which I just adore.

By the Still Waters by [orphan account]. This is older, but I knew it was popular so I gave it a shot and... yes, I understand now. I loved reading something from Fenris’ perspective. I loved how he’s a foil for Solas. I love seeing Lavellan as this near mythical person because we see everything through Fenris’ eyes. I love Hawke and Fenris together. Merrill also featured more heavily than I anticipated and she had some of the best lines I’ve ever read.

Pressure Point by 17734 [incomplete] - this fic leaves me constantly unsettled (in the best, most addictive, under-your-skin kind of way). I’ve read the first 18 or so chapters twice, and it’s one of those stories that’s slightly different the second time you read it. I really like the author’s take on immortal beings, some of it is very reminiscent of some of the Greek mythology I read in school - characters are at turns both magnificent and terrifying. The language is also very beautiful, and I’m a sucker for anything close to prosaic. 

Out of Time by destinies - so, I don’t know how I found this beyond just “Twitter.” This isn’t Dragon Age related -- it’s from The Greisha Trilogy, which I had never heard of before -- something just told me I would really like this story. Forced/political marriages’, memory loss, enemies to lovers, the dichotomy between light and dark embodied by a single couple... yes, thank you. I had to kind of piece the world together as I read, which was admittedly a lot of fun, and um... wow, I really loved this! Another one of my ‘binged in a single night’ fics.  

Message Sent by @aicosu [incomplete]- this is coincidentally how I got my former partner into Dragon Age lol. I had originally read it the first time as it was coming out. The second time I read it aloud to them over the course of a few days, feeling very much like Cassandra trying to do certain character’s voices. It reminded me of how much I loved it, and so I feel like it deserves a mention here. Definitely an unorthodox but memorable way of cursing someone with being emotionally invested in the Solavellan romance 

Short Fics (< 50k words)

nothing on my tongue by @ellstersmash - the chapters here are short, and I loved seeing the fic updated put of order. This was my first time experiencing that, and I loved guessing where we were in the in-game timeline, and also, as more chapters were posted, which chapter numbers were still missing and therefore what the missing chapters might be about. I associate this fic with feeling kind of melancholy a lot. I think the word constraints really lent itself well to the Solavallen romance -- beautiful and poignant, but always leaving me wanting more.

In and Out of Time Again by @luzial - hoo boy did I have a fun time reading this one. I actually rarely go for AU’s this “AU”, but I trusted this author, and it paid off. In fact, I think I subconsciously had more doubts than I thought because what started a curious perusal ended in one of those “up until 3 am reading” kind of nights. It was such a fast-paced, interesting read, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Ink is one of my favorite Lavellans; she’s just too cool.

The Fourth Day by sass_bot (@knightava) [incomplete] - this was just such a perfect example of how to build tension and dread for the reader, that I still think about it frequently. Also, who wouldn’t love a Skyhold murder mystery?

Beyond the Veil by Pyreite [incomplete] - A 200 years post-Veil fic. Abelas is in it, which is how I knew it was gonna be good hehe. I really like the world-building, and I like explorations of the romance with a more hardened Lavellan. 

I Come to You With Nothing by CommonEvilMasterMind. I’ll preface this by writing that this made me cry with a mixture of sorrow and happiness. The premise is an undercover mission in an alienage which involves Solas and Ellana masquerading as a married couple. It’s beautifully written, and just honestly kind of bittersweet. The writing is itself very touching but I also think it’s almost difficult to read because the Solavellan romance has an arc that looks like it’s just exponentially deviating from anything remotely happy lolol 

That Girl Is Like A Sunburn by @yourstrulycommandershepard - I just discovered this person’s writing this year and I’m kind of obsessed? I went on a whole binge this past summer and *fans self*. I picked this one for my list because I haven’t read that many Solas/Trevelyan fics, and hers are by far some of my favorites. I also love that the titles of some of her fics are Taylor Swift lyrics. I get Solavellan vibes from so many of Taylor’s songs - glad it’s not just me!

Aravel by @playwithdinos - More Papa Solas. I can’t say anything more than it hit me right in the vhenan. 

Wake Up by queenofkadara (@pikapeppa) - One of those fics I thought about for days afterward. The characterization was incredible, and it hurt me to read about Varric brining up Lavellan and seeing Solas’ reaction, and it hurt even more to be left wanting for more, just like Solas.

Ehhhh, okay not like I’m embarrassed to ship them but embarrassed to talk about them because there’s a lot of my friends who have a preference on another ship that is super popular. So it’s Gino and Akane from Psycho Pass xD And it’s weird because I still have nothing against Kougami and Akane, but sometimes something inside me fights with my feelings and tells me that Gino and Akane could do a pretty good married couple. I still see Kougami more like a Kasanova style so giving him to Akane only is unfair xD even though they also look good. So yeah, it’s weird, next question.

7. Do you prefer to indulge in (consume or create) fanart or fanfic of your favorite ship?

Create fanfic, I’m a writer to the core.Consume fanart, I’m a visual type.

8. Smut or fluff?

Smut. However, if you ask me “smut or angst/drama”, I choose angst/drama. I’m not really into fluffy sugar-coated type of scenes lol.

9. What task are you most likely to procrastinate so you can indulge in your ship or fandom?

Nothing, I just indulge into it when I have enough time to enjoy it: I can’t enjoy anything when I know I have Damocles’ sword of an important task above me.

10. How many hours of the day do you spend reading fanfic or looking at fanart or other media?

Altogether (fanfiction, fanart, etc) it’s about 1-2 hours per day, in busy days it’s 0 hours per day :D

11. How many memorabilia’s do you own of your favorite fandom or ship (clothes, plushies, etc.)?

Not many, I have a prefect’s bandage from VK and phone case with Yume, the rest of memorabilia I have don’t relate to animamnga (expect for volumes).

12. If you could own one authentic item from your favorite fandom world, what would it be?

Nothing specific, but I’d give a leg and more for owning the videos of all performance of Viktor and Yuuri - I love figure skating so it’d be amazing to see all their famous entries.

13. What is the strangest thing you’ve done to honor your favorite fandom, ship or character?

Nothing.

14. What fandom have you found to be too toxic to deal with?

To some extent every fandom is toxic, but among those I dealt with VK wins the first place without a doubt.

15. Do you have or would you consider getting a tattoo depicting your favorite ship or fandom?

Nope, I like seeing tattooes on other people, but scarcely I’d decide to do it on myself. If only something not too big and pretty, but not fandom related definitely.

16. If the creators of your favorite fandom asked you to write the ship canon-confirmation episode, what will you write/how will it happen?

I’ll skip it, because most of my ships are canon, and those that aren’t claim more from my side than simply write a small paragraph on how they can become canon.

Height: 5′4″ or 162 cm

Sexuality: I’m still sort of sorting that out but uhh, demisexual and heteroromantic (although love is love, so if I find a girl I love I’d be willing to give it a shot!)

Favourite animal: I really love cutesy animals like rabbits (which I am one in the Chinese zodiac haha), dogs, but especially cats—I blame Warriors lolol.

Average hours of sleep: I usually sleep stupidly late (3:00-6:00 am). It’s a bad habit I’m trying to fix, but on days with school I get a lot less hours (sometimes even 3 hours), but on weekends I still get a full night’s sleep (so around 7).

Dogs or cats: I love you little doggies, but I’m going to have to go with cats haha.

Number of blankets: Usually just one! Maybe two if it’s cold.

Dream trip: My friends and I are currently trying to go to Disney World! But I’ve also always wanted to go to Japan (as a Chinese-Canadian it is very rare I still haven’t gone lol). I also want to visit Taiwan and go explore China...and go visit Singapore again (they have a DC superhero cafe there!!). So yeah, lots of dream trips.

Dream job: I’ve dreamt of being an artist or a writer since I was a kid! Hopefully I’ll be able to publish my own book(s), make my own cartoon(s), and/or animate on YouTube lol.

1.  What was the thing you struggled with at school/uni and never had to apply in your life later? 

hmmm... I could say all of my struggles somewhat helped me in my later life. It may have... fueled my internal research of useless but also useful extra knowledge for future reference...!

3.  Do you remember the first fic you read and the impression it left?

I think it was a Naruto fic, SasuNaru, which was about a long-term, in disguise, mission gone wrong...? I think. I hardly remember D8 But I know the next fic though, was a KakaNaru one, with a lot of angst~ B’) It left an impression that even though you might be alone, there will always be someone there that has you in their thoughts. And despite all of your efforts in trying to be nice and social, all going to waste with others not giving a care and taking it for granted, you can let that facade go, and there will be someone who will reciprocate the real you... kind of thing? Was that too deep? lolol  Probably one of the last LONG fic I’ll ever read... unless I put my mind to it. ahhhh //lies down

oh--I was going to say I’d be a background character observing...! baahaha :’D  The Fool, who doesn’t know anything, and must first find clues to solve the mystery~~ Except maybe I’d jump straight to the ending...

Nature at its most beautiful is: Fresh autumn breeze, with slightly chilly wind, a close-to-evening but not exactly afternoon sun, with lots of fluffy clouds, sitting on a bench outside the library (or forest path), reading or drawing... and waiting. Good times. ( ; u ; )b

Yaaas, it would be someone who had a super relaxed and pampered day, very chill and not having to do anything at all but their favorite things. Pffff STEE!! The day you tagged me on this was the day I had that SWEET DREAM. I occasionally get dreams where it’s like I’m watching a movie/trailer with a good story. Kind of as if I’m plotting OC stories by dreaming. There was train ride fights, FLYING AIRSHIPS, super suspense parts with antagonist being chaotic evil, shots of various important characters, andand..!! I woke up and I had to go to work so I couldn’t write/capture it... but when I had time, and work died down, I TRIED AND--I realized I only got a little bit out of it. Stee, the characters in it were so beautiful!! It was so good--I’m also sad that I couldn’t capture this pretty lady character design in my dream. haaah ;; 

11.  How many playlists do you have and for how long to you listen to music daily?

Hmmm I have 3  playlists: Oh Seas, OSTs, and a Vocal playlist, and probably listen to music at times when I’m trying to draw something, or at night where... I’m free and trying to stay awake. Soo on free days it can be 2+hrs or less, and then normally, like now, tired as a wilted flower, 1hr or less? =v=  But mostly I listen to background noises and/or listen to stories/documentaries.

1. What kind of food can’t you stand?: Anything fermented. Like, ew. Also brussel sprouts (Then again, I have yet find someone who can cook brussel sprouts “well.” :b)

2. If you could choose one minor inconvenience to never have to deal with again, what would you pick?: Public transit schedules. They’re so darn inconvenient (And yet I’m commuting for the remainder of my uni career. At least I’m saving money..?). -.-’

3. Have you got any useless talents?: I try to make use of my talents, so I’m gonna say no. :b

4. If you could be really really good at one thing, what would it be?: Taking (good & worthwhile) risks because I’m always so darn careful so I end up not trying new things sometimes.

6. What was your favorite way to pass the time as a kid?: Singing all the Disney songs (Which I still do nowadays, haha~.). I would also read books, write my own stories, and act as if I was on a Disney Channel show (I was quite the Disney fangirl back in the day. xD)

7. What is something you’re proud of?: My friends who are just starting college/uni this year. Most of them are already setting up their dorms and getting ready for classes. They’re growing up so fast! :’)

8. What’s one character flaw in people that you just can’t tolerate?: Dishonesty. I don’t associate with phonies.

9. Do you consider yourself to be more of a leader or a follower?: I’m a bit of both. Then again, being a follower makes you a kind of leader: you essentially lead people to follow your leader, if that makes sense Okay I’ll shut up about leadership theory sorry y’all. :P

10. What kind of student are/were you?: The diligent one (but people often claim I’m the overachiever even tho I’m not always a straight A student lololol).

My Canadian friends are trying to get me to drink with them since I’m now legal in Canada but I’m scared heeeeeelp. :b I’m usually the wallflower if I don’t know anybody too well at a party. However, if I find people I’m comfortable hanging out with, I’ll stick with their squad throughout the event, talking, eating, dancing and taking pictures/SnapChats to our hearts’ desires~. ^-^

I have to get to know the person before I “fall in love” with them, let alone having a crush on them. Which is why the biggest crushes I’ve had were on some of my closest friends. But I’ve never told them because I didn’t want to risk our friendships IDK I’M A NOOB WHEN IT COMES TO LOVEY-DOVEY THINGS. :b

Both of these locations are places where I’d have more than enough room to move or think. ^-^

Outdoors: Somewhere near the sea, where I could feel the sand on my toes, hear the waves splashing onto the shore, smell the ocean breeze, and watch the orange sunset glowing along the horizon.

Indoors: An empty practice room. Wooden floors, large mirrors in front of the room, dance barres along the side walls, a few windows displaying the outside world, and a speaker/stereo system perfect for blasting the music around the room.

19. Do you have kids? If not, do you want them someday?: No kids atm, but I love working with them! Yes, I’d like kids someday~.

20. What was your favorite book as a child?: I read many books as a wee child. But one book I can clearly remember is Stellaluna. It’s an adorable story about a bat who discovers who she truly is thanks to both her adoptive and biological families (The former being a family of birds and the latter being a family of bats.).

21. Name one thing you just don’t get what all the hype is about: Fidget spinners. I’m still seeing people freak out about those things. Didn’t the trend die a month or two ago?

24. What’s something you’d like the chance to do someday?: Act in a theatrical production. I haven’t done theatre in a year and I already miss it. T.T

25. Do you typically speak your mind when you have a controversial opinion? Or do generally prefer to not rock the boat?: I’ll definitely speak my mind if I’m well-versed in the topic and if I’m passionate about it. If I want to present a controversial opinion, I have to be sure that I can articulate my POV eloquently and professionally. I’m also more than willing to listen to the other side, as long as they fully know what they’re talking about (Frankly, I will not take any B.S. if I suspect B.S.).

26. What’s the dumbest fad you’ve been caught up in?: I’m blanking... Yeah, IDK, but I’m pretty sure I got caught up in some kind of dumb fad back in middle school. *shivers b/c I don’t want to relive those years*

27. What’s something you thought was cool as a kid/adolescent, but now cringe at yourself for?: When I was younger (like elementary/middle school-age), I dreamed of becoming a singer. In order to accomplish that dream, I joined my school and church choirs: however, that turned out to be a pretty toxic experience since almost everyone I was singing with treated every single practice and performance as a singing competition. Like, c’mon you guys: we aren’t on Glee. -.-’

28. What’s a trait you consider to be very admirable?: Honesty: I admire people who are genuine and true.

29. Is there a particular kind of item people always tend to give you as gifts? (For instance, people always get you things with ducks on them because you like ducks, etc.): Books (people know I’m a huge bookworm), clothes (b/c I’m usually too lazy/don’t have time to shop for my own clothes, LOLOL), stuffed animals (I’m a child at heart and I love cuddly & cute things), sweets (especially chocolate).

30. Do you speak multiple languages? Which ones?: 

English is my mother tongue.

I apparently used to speak Tagalog fluently when I was very young, but then I stopped speaking that language once I started preschool; however, I’ve picked up some terms over the years, so I can sort of dissect my parents’ conversations w/ the other adults (”Yes, Mom, I knew that you were talking about my uni stuff with Tita *insert name here*.” :P), plus I’m going to take a Tagalog 101 class in Autumn Quarter, so I’ll (hopefully) learn how to say complete sentences instead of just the names of foods, holidays, and Filipino Folk Dances. xD

I learned Spanish throughout my high school career, so I’m okay in that department even though I haven’t practiced speaking/listening/writing in that language recently. I’m still fluent enough to help my sisters with their Spanish homework, so that’s something. :P

I tried learning some French, Japanese, and Korean through various language learning apps, but to no avail.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

31. Would you rather live in the big city or the countryside?: Can I choose like a little town instead? Big city: the countryside would be MUCH too quiet for me (Plus I’d be much too tempted to run atop every hill Sound of Music style and start singing at the top of my lungs - which would probably annoy a lot of people, myself included. :P).

32. Has there ever been something you were certain you’d hate, but ended up loving?: Giles Christophe a.k.a my Midnight Cinderella bias. Ironic, huh? xD <3 Also Jumin Han from MYSME. :P

33. Do you mind being the center of attention, or do you prefer the spotlight to be on someone else?: I will hide from the spotlight like I’m a friggin vampire unless there’s a damn good reason for me to be under it.

If you could have a superpower, but it was only mildly useful, what ability would you want to have?: “Mildly useful?” (O.o) I guess the ability to learn things VERY quickly - like, master an activity on the first try. I actually have a friend with that ability, which has allowed him to almost effortlessly master almost every sport he’s ever learned: he’s basically a superhuman and I admire and envy him for his “superpower.” :P <3

39. Something people are always surprised to learn about you: My age: people think that I’m much younger than I actually am, mostly because of my shorter-than-average height and my baby face. I’m basically an adult stuck in a teenager’s body. xD

40. Something that took you way too long to figure out: How to apply the Unit Circle to various math problems eff you precalculus and calculus never again ugggghhhhh.

41. Worst injury you’ve had?: My broken heart (JKJK, sort of. :P) I got burned by the metal tip of a very hot glue gun. Thanks to that, I have a tiny scar on my upper right arm.

48. Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist?: Realist. Leaning on the pessimist side. However, I do try to believe that things will get better, that there’ll be more bigger and better opportunities out there, etc. etc.

1) Favorite mythical creature? Probably Sirens. :D

2) What’s a song that has a lot of meaning to you personally? Born Yesterday by Rob Dougan. It reminds me of, like, my fucking life. In reference to my social anxiety and the way people in my life treat me like I’m stupid because of it, and how often I’ve had even well meaning friends associate things I do out of anxiety with my maturity level. 3) Craziest/coolest dream you’ve had? I can’t really think of one off my head but I’m decent at lucid dreaming, especially because I notice a lot of patterns in my dreams, so sometimes when one of them is happening I’m able to realize I’m dreaming and kinda fuck off and do whatever. Those are always kinda fun.
