Honestly, I think it only says a lot about her as a personality, and not in a positive light. I mean, I write myself - fanfiction and my own stories, and I don't compare myself to her, but as a person who writes I can't imagine how a writer can't handle their own character? No matter how much smarter, darker and more complex he is than herself, he still is a product of her mind, it's in her power to change things if she dislikes some aspects. To push a character aside because you're afraid of depicting him as he appears too difficult is to show your incompetence. Hino may apologize as much as she pleases, but it won't change the fact that in reality she's just a lazy coward who doesn't want to work on her drawbacks.
I don’t think the reason why Hino does Kaname dirty is bc she secretly favors Zero. I think she just doesn’t have the capacity to write him well and give him true happiness. She just isn’t equipped for that bc the character is too complex for a writer like her. The reason she does the rest of the characters right is bc they are easy to digest and thus easier to do right by. Zero is not a complex character and thus it was easy to give him a satisfactory ending. And Yuuki too. I also think she has personal issues and so she has a subconscious aversion to giving Kaname happiness bc of her own situation whatever that is. It’s like a subconscious reaction on her part to always do right by zero while letting down Kaname no matter how many chances she gets to do him justice.
She just doesn’t have the emotional capacity to write a character like Kaname and she resents him for that so she chooses to avoid addressing how she messed up with him and would focus on what’s easy and safe for her to write which is zeki. She knows he easy is is for her to write for that ship and what would make the fans happy so she just sticks to doing that bc she’s afraid of the hate she got bc of Kaname in the main series. She’s a coward
Yes she started off the story with Kaname and yume in mind and zero didn’t exist until later. But as she developed the story, she got more positive and stable feedback on zeki so she chose to stick to the status quo and choose the easy path
#vkm related#and she's not the only author who behaves like this unfortunately#everybody wants to have excuses and understanding for their drawbacks#pathetic

Steins;Gate (2011) // dir. Chiyomura Shikura and team
"It feels like time is passing so quickly. Damn you, Einstein! Your science is crowding in on our kiss! He was right. The passage of time depends entirely on where you're standing. Relativity Theory... it's so romantic. But it's just so tragic too." -Makise Kurisu
