Katsuki's reflection above the sink stared back. Eyes still drowsy with a hint of a shadow beneath them. Hair more of a mess than he would prefer, but he was plenty awake now.

All because of Deku.

Katsuki reflects at 4 am.

Pride has always had a special place in Midoriya Izuku's heart.

"I trusted you and you had me murdered!” Midoriya wailed, anguished. Bakugou twitched focusing on the spell that made him capture Midoriya's soul.

“Shut up! You got yourself killed!”

“I didn't! You said you had my back and I thought you had it! But you didn't! Kacchan! My body!” Midoriya cried as he watched Bakugou lug his limp body through the forest.

This is what happens when Bakugou tries to become best friends with Midoriya again.

Katsuki doesn't know what's wrong with Izuku. Is he mad? What is he mad about? What did Katsuki do!? All he knows is that he can't let Izuku break up with him. Not while they're still keeping their relationship a secret.

Izuku forces Katsuki to apologize for everything he's ever done to hurt him.

Bakugou and Midoriya have been best friends since... well, since either of them could remember. But both harbor unspoken feelings for the other, will this be an end to their friendship?

Izuku, a dog hybrid, has lived with his owner Toshinori, a retired hybrid psychologist, his whole life. He takes on some of the shelter’s most difficult cases as fosters, and so Izuku has learned to be the best foster-mate possible for scared and abused hybrids. At first, Katsuki, a cat hybrid who’s been kept in a tiny apartment nearly his whole life, seems just like any of the other awful cases they’ve seen, but somehow, Izuku and him grow a lot closer than usual over the course of his stay. Eventually, the question becomes: could he stay forever?

“Izuku knows what the Hanahaki does. He knows what his options are, and sure, they aren’t great. In fact, they’re pretty horrible. The list is short and daunting. There are still flower petals on his pillow."

Bakugou, Denki, Midoriya, Momo and Todoroki all end up in a McDonald's one early morning. A suggestion of a movie and a credit card reveal later and the teens are off to spend the day together.

They all know that it's Todoroki's father's credit card, but none of them care.

Bakugo and Todoroki both find themselves living together with disabilities, helping each other get by. In doing so, they fall in love.

“Makes perfect sense,” Bakugou countered, closing his teeth around a bite of eggs. “You were doing this same shit yesterday morning.”

My entry for the day 2 prompt of Kacchako week: otherworldly.

Bakugou watches with something akin to affection when Shinsou starts playing with his dog until she jumps all around him and is barking excitedly. He has never seen the both of them so content before. The Sergeant is always so concentrated at College grounds, either that or she’s calm but still looking out for him. Bakugou has seen them during lectures, at lunch at their usual table, during their ways to Bakugou’s dorm and to Shinsou’s apartment off campus, he has seen them through their late-night-skyping sessions and in countless pictures on Sergeant Barkowitz’ Instagram. He has seen their best but not their worst, and that makes Bakugou wonder if he’ll ever be such a great companion to Shinsou like the Sergeant is.

"Shouta could have never imagined reaching this point in his life. He honestly expected to die at some point when he was younger, alone somewhere in an alleyway, killed in action during his hero work maybe."

Instead he's in a warm hospital bed and surrounded by some of the people he cares most about.

Shinsou Hitoshi had never had a family before, and he refuses to screw it up. But when a villain attacks him and his new little sister, he may have lost the only family he's ever had.

Bakugou never wanted to be mated. Especially not to a villain but it didn't look like he had any choice in the matter. The only question now was: will he ever escape?

fic writing: 2017 in review

Snatched this off @theinsanefox‘s blog. <3

Total year-long word count: I have written, altogether, over 400,000 words, of which about 270,000 are currently posted on AO3. I have a couple of wips that are almost 40k words each plus other shorter wips.

Word count by fandom: Aside from one drabble, I’ve only posted Yuri On Ice fics, so... pretty much all the words are YOI.

Completed Fics: 11 (between 1k and 77k words) +22 ficlets (between 360 and 1,000 words)

Works-In-Progress: like 8 that might actually be finished

This year I wrote and posted: Everything that’s currently on my AO3. (Linking to my links page because tumblr hates external links, stupid tumblr.)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? Way more than I thought. Like way more. I hadn’t written fic in about a decade when I suddenly crashed headfirst into the YOI fandom in like... March? And then posted my first fic in April.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Any YOI pairing, because I only discovered YOI in February... Victuuri and Otayuri were pretty obvious from the beginning, but I never thought I’d get so much into Pliroy as well. :’)

What’s your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? I can’t decide! chasing fireflies is my ultimate precious baby, but transatlanticism was my first Pliroy and it makes me so happy because I feel like I managed to convey the story the way I wanted it. Then there’s also the invisible ones, my longest and most plot-heavy fic, and kick up the roots, the romance-movie trope fic. Like, any one of those four. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I started posting a work-in-progress and never finished it. That taught me to finish fics before I start posting.

Your best story of this year: the invisible ones. It’s 77,000 words long and full of plot and cuddles and connecting with nature. Or perhaps chasing fireflies because I have had neuroatypical and/or demisexual people come tell me that my characterization of Yuri was relatable to them. <3

Your most popular story of this year: most popular by kudos: Void

Story of yours most under-appreciated by the universe, in your opinion: the invisible ones. There were a lot of people who appreciated it, sure, but I still feel like, because I’m not a “big name” in the fandom, most people wouldn’t click on it... or perhaps because it’s a mythology AU and perhaps people are not interested in that. But either way... *shrugs*

Most fun story to write: kick up the roots, like it was so much fun to write a fic that was purposefully grabbing all the romance movie clichés and running wild with them. I have to admit I kind of borrowed the idea from @lucycamui who did the same with fairytale tropes. ;)

Story with the single sexiest moment: erm, I only recently started writing more smutty content again, and I’m really bad at considering what might be considered sexy. But I like the way I wrote the breakfast scene in transatlanticism, so I’m going to go with that.

Most “Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: I don’t think I have any of these. My writing is pretty tame by such standards I guess :D

Story that shifted your own perceptions of the characters: transatlanticism, it made me look at JJ in a different way.

Hardest story to write: probably the hunt, because I know next to nothing about mafia AUs and this was my first mafia AU. But it was very well-received so I guess I didn’t botch it that bad :D

Biggest disappointment: messages in a bottle. It was the first longer fic I started posting (as a wip, big mistake) and then I got discouraged because I felt like there wasn’t much of a response, so I lost motivation and it still sits untouched in my wip folder. But it taught me to finish fics before I start posting, so, ehh.

Biggest surprise: The response to chasing fireflies. I didn’t expect people to love it as much as they did, but it made me so happy that they did. :’)

Most unintentionally telling story: Of me as a person, or what? Anyway, I feel like kick up the roots fits the bill, because it reveals how much of a sap I actually am. Because let me tell you, I could write Hallmark fics all day long and never get tired of it.

Favorite opening line(s): From Void:

They say one’s future is written in the sequences of DNA that make up a person. That the base pairs that make you who you are also hold the knowledge about who you will become as time passes.

And once you’re old enough, your DNA begins to manifest your future through your skin as pictures that emerge, allowing you to determine what path you should walk on.

Favorite closing line(s): From chasing fireflies:

Otabek waits, and when Yuri finally exhales and his lungs somehow don’t explode, Otabek reaches his free hand across the table to brush a strand of hair behind Yuri’s ear.

“I love you,” Otabek repeats softly.

Five days. Yuri thinks he can just about survive five days with that.

Can you recommend any klance fics?.

I can definitely recommend lots of klance fics. As in, lots lots. I am not completely sure what you are looking for/what you have already read though, so I’m just gonna list some of my favorite authors with some of my favorite fics.

Quick additional info: there are no explicit fics on here, though some are rated mature. All of the stories have klance as their only ship but since I intended this to be author recs rather than fic recs, I will mention what kinds of other ships appear in other fics.

Now then, here you go, in no particular order:

manamune

- Crossroads (106k): not quite canon verse, not quite AU - check the summary

- Plunged (6k): canon verse, Lance teaches Keith how to swim

- Roommates (6k): modern AU, Artist!Keith, Photographer!Lance, exactly what the title says

This author’s writing is amazingly smooth and I particularly enjoy their Keith. Crossroads was my favorite fic for a long, long time until I found some others that were just as good :D [this author also wrote some nsfw and sheith]

- He Who Fights Monsters (65k): AU, there are dragons

This author has a style of writing that makes you forget that time exists. Like, you read their stories, look up 2 hours later and go “what the hell I only just started reading 5 minutes ago”. Their fics are pretty action-heavy but the romance part never falls short. [they wrote a lot of nsfw, their newest fic is shklance]

mackerelmademedoit

- Entangled (102k): canon verse, Keith and Lance get mind-melded

- Right-hand Man (4k): canon verse, Keith approaches Lance after the end of season 2 to talk about their roles from now on

Amazing characterizations here. I particularly enjoyed the OS because it seemed like something that genuinely could happen like this in canon… sadly I don’t think it will, but one can dream, right :’D Also amazing art! [they wrote some nsfw]

- it had to be you (9k): modern AU, Keith and Lance are professors, lots of flirting

- Echoes In Your Mind (7k): canon verse, Keith is turning Galra

- let the whole world know (4k): modern AU, soulmates AU

I honestly don’t know why I like this author so much? Probably because they can squeeze an entire story into less than 10k words, complete with character development and appearances from friends etc. I liked many more of their OS but there are just so many, you should check it out for yourself. [they wrote some nsfw and shallura]

varelsen

- Not That Bad (68k): modern AU, socially anxious!Keith, lots and lots of fluff

- just like that (10k): canon verse, Lance struggles with his crush on Keith

this author just? makes reading feel so good? so relaxing?? Their style is focused on conveying emotions and flows really nicely, I strongly recommend to give it a try. [their newest story is nsfw and includes lancelot]

battleshidge (Amiria_Raven)

- Drive Me Crazy (8k): modern AU, lots of flirting and stupid pick-up lines

- Next Level (33k; WIP): modern AU, online gaming, they know each other but they don’t know that they know each other

The style of writing is really, really good and I love how everyone’s friendships get portrayed. The author is also pretty good at writing conflicted emotions. [they wrote some shallura and shidge]

aknightley

- it’s all in my head (8k): canon verse, mind meld

This author is super good with emotions. You always end up feeling what the characters are feeling and I’d definitely recommend going through their other fics as well - once again, there are just so many that I won’t list them all. [they wrote some nsfw and shallura]

lemoninagin

- You Can Fog Up My Windows Anytime (3k): modern AU, all the awkward flirting

Another author that has a fantastic style of writing and portrays the characters really well. Also another author that wrote so many good things that I can’t possibly put them all on here. [they wrote some nsfw, sheith, shklance, shallura- lots of stuff, check the tags]

MilkTeaMiku

- Moonset Deep (50k, WIP): mermaid AU, lance is the mermaid

- The Quiet (40k, WIP): ghost AU, lance is the ghost

- 7 Days Series (pt 1 - 30k, pt 2 - 30k, pt 3 - 4k): canon verse, lance/keith get turned into babies

Amazing writing, plot-orientated. Don’t let that fool you though, the emotions never fall short. [they wrote some shallura, shance and other ships - also their fics aren’t rated. the ones listed are entirely sfw]

Zizzani

- Drive It Like You Mean It (94k): modern AU, street racing AU, it gets pretty intense later

This writer has a really fluent and nice style of writing and they somehow manage to easily let lots of characters interact. Everyone feels extremely in character and nothing feels forced. Also I know nothing about cars and yet their fics belong to my favorites, so give it a try. [they wrote some shallura]

shipstiel

- Of Don Juan And Elvis (3k): modern AU, soulmate AU

- Barbie Girl (2k): modern AU, soulmate AU, continuation

I’m not sure whether it’s just me but no matter what fic of them I read, they always feel– soft. Easy. Something good for in-between. One of their fics (not the ones listed here) has some pretty heavy topics in it and yet I still feel like that. [they wrote some shallura]

Gigapoodle

- A Moment in the Snow (3k): canon verse, Galra!Keith, snowball fights, fluff

- Carpe Diems and Chrysanthemums (14k): modern AU, hanahaki disease, trans Lance, angst with a happy ending

- A Quarter Past Midnight (14k): canon verse, trans Keith, angst with a happy ending

This author is amazing at writing angst. It just always hits you right in the feels. Like damn. I adore their writing so much but ho boy I was too scared to click the one Chara Death fic they wrote. I couldn’t do that to myself, the two longer OS that I listed here already gave me enough feelings. [they wrote some shallura]

Trashness

- Nightmares (15k): canon verse, sleeping together, as in snuggling, fluff

- Costumed Identities (42k): modern AU, cosplay AU, they know each other but they don’t know they know each other

This author writes Keith’s and Lance’s interactions really nicely. They also never fail to make me smile/laugh with their fics, they are all really cute!! Lots of light heartened stuff here.

SKayLanphear

- Running Flat (11k): canon verse, thought sharing, lance is trying to figure out who has the crush on him

- A Commutal Contract (24k, WIP): canon verse, bed sharing

I really really really enjoy this author’s Lance!! He feels incredibly in character and I swear I can see him act in canon just like he does in the fics. Their style of writing is fluent, nice and adapts really well to the situation.

[I also really enjoy witty_name’s and freshia’s fics, both of whom usually put background shallura into their fics though so I couldn’t list them here]

Outsider POV! Kidnapping. The characterisation is very, very on point. I loved the ending. It’s so well written. (I’m a sucker for outsider POV’s, so that’s always a plus for me.)

Kidnapping, torture, hurt/comfort. The torturing is not too bad, in my opinion, but it’s there. Aziraphale and Crowley love each other very much and there is a very satisfying ending.

Supernatural crossover, implied torture. It’s cute, it’s funny, they’re married. I don’t think it is absolutely necessary to know Supernatural to read this one - I don’t watch it anymore either. Kind of an outsiders POV, if you don’t read for the Supernatural characters!

You might say it started like this: An angel and a demon found a marriage contract hung on the wall of the angel's bookshop. They didn't question it.

It also could have started like this: Once upon a time, the angel told the demon he went too fast. The demon took it to heart.

Aziraphale and Crowley find themselves somehow married. Crowley fears going too fast. Aziraphale forges ahead. Neither know how to ask questions of each other.

Themes + Personal opinion:

Slowburn, mutual pining, miscommunication, slight angst. Jewish Good Omens! This was very soft and sweet and just a delight to read. Lovely, lovely writing style.

On Being Bar Mitzvahed

Personally, I am not a fan of God in Good Omens fics. Especially not God shipping them. But this fic is way too good to be ignored. It’s amazing. (And God has like one line, so whatever.)

To make an example of them, Gabriel and Beelzebub collaborate on a punishment much harsher than mere execution.

What happens when Crowley and Aziraphale are allowed to keep their lives, but not their memories?

Based on the meme/concept, "What if their punishment was forgetting each other?"

NOT FINISHED! (But uploads regularly.) You should probably read the tags before reading. A lot of angst, but it’s very well written and I love, love, love it! I normally wait for fanfictions to be finished before reading them, but this one is an exception.
