Like with any media I get into, an AU is sure to follow, so here’s something @sleepysquib and I have been cooking up!

We wanted Haibara to live, that was it :D

Here’s a “brief” summary of his whole deal:

During August 2007, his second year at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, he went on a mission with fellow second year Nanami Kento. The mission’s level turned out to be higher than expected. Haibara received critical wounds, but was able to escape with Nanami with their lives. He was healed by Shoko’s reverse curse healing technique.

After his brush with death, he realized that he needed to be taking this more seriously. That, combined with Geto’s betrayal, led him to becoming less naive. However, he didn’t want to lose his positivity, so he focused on increasing his abilities through his emotions, eventually becoming promoted to Grade 1.

After graduation, Nanami still ran from the life of a jujutsu sorcerer, while Haibara stayed in that world. He saw his role as something akin to a superhero, and took it in stride, calling himself “Cupid” and being very public about his status. He quickly became popular and gained a fanbase, taking pictures and signing autographs for them when he has time.

Being received well by the media and being good on camera, Haibara became somewhat of a PR boy for the jujutsu sorcerers. He could make a bad situation sound less terrible through his natural charm.

Nanami and Haibara remained best friends during the time that Nanami was working as a salaryman. Eventually, Nanami learned the bakery lesson and realized his place was as a sorcerer. He returned to that life and was quickly paired with Haibara for many missions.

Haibara knows that the world isn’t the happy place he wishes, but he tries to be the change he wants to see and spreads positivity. He also does this in hopes of lessening the amount of cursed spirits created by the negative emotions of humans.

As a result of always expressing positivity, his negative emotions are naturally bottled up. He does this on purpose, stockpiling his negative emotions so he can release and harness their power if a battle becomes that dire. His last resort is to unleash his negative emotions, which increases his power greatly for a brief period of time. After this burst of power, he is left exhausted and drained and will need to recover. He is aware that he is being “toxically positive” but does so to increase his power with negativity later.

He doesn’t express joy all the time and doesn’t force himself to express it every moment of the day, but he will always express positivity in public and during battles to keep up morale and his image (although he doesn’t care about image in a narcissistic way).

He is liked by most people and others vent and confide in him. The personal sharing of their negative emotions adds to that stockpile that he can use if necessary.

Haibara tries to not express his own negative emotions to others because it will decrease that stockpile inside and he knows he needs to save that for dangerous battles. He knows it’s not healthy but he does it for the good of Japan, seeing himself as a superhero.

Much like a cursed spirit, his greater power increases when those around him have expressed negative emotions, but he doesn’t like to acknowledge the fact that he has something in common with cursed spirits.

Lives by the mottos of “With great power comes great responsibility” and “greet the world with open arms”

okay not to waste energy being mad about the minecraft movie of all things but I am actually kind of heartbroken by how cynical it feels.

for example, making the creatures that inhabit the world offputting is so indicative of the underlying attitude the film seems to be taking to me. how many millions of minecraft animals, despite being pixels and code, have been genuinely loved by players around the world?

minecraft, despite everything it’s associated with these days, is incredibly earnest in a way that I feel few properties are these days… and genuinely one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. in its surprisingly melancholic moments in a solo survival world. in the laughs it’s given those far apart from beloved friends, allowing them to be roommates in a beautiful forest cottage or a volcanic fortress or a treehouse palace they’ve built together when thousands of miles apart. in the things people working alone and together have made of it- libraries of banned books made accessible through the medium of the game, scale models of worlds real and fictional, redstone machines with intricate circuitry and incredible intelligence and diligence behind them, in the friendships forged in the pursuit of these creations.

minecraft is collaborative and creative and contemplative in a way few games can be. minecraft, to those who have ‘beaten,’ it, says: everything you need is within you, the darkness you fight is within you, the light you seek is within you, you are not alone, not separate from every other thing, you are the universe tasting itself, talking to itself, reading its own code.

minecraft, when so many games are about escaping from yourself, is about connection with your self, your creativity, the plants and earth and animals and structures around you, the people around you.

for it to be, in this context, a self-referential, debasing cash grab, is not a surprise to me but does feel like a disservice to what the heart of this game is, and symptomatic of a wider trend in a storytelling climate increasingly dominated by spin-offs and reboots and tie-ins and remakes. the writers could have had the courage not to break the fourth wall, not to point and laugh and decry the silly memeable ‘get a load of this guy,’ block game, (and by extension ridicule themselves,) but I understand. it’s the same instinct to make the self-effacing joke before you can be laughed at by others for showing your honest self, to cringe from the vulnerability earnesty demands. that’s fine. personally- and I’m probably not alone- I just wish it wasn’t this game.

The short version is that I looked about events in Jewish history around John Calvin's time for the first question (pope John Calvin being the major alternation of history in HDM). As for the second question - I have some thoughts relating to the Chabad thought stream. Elaborations, again, going in reblogs.

Last night, my dog was across the yard, saying hello to my neighbor. My mom was talking to the neighbor and trying to call her back so she'd stop sniffing him. I put up a hand to my mom and said, "Let me try," and in what is probably the proudest and most wholesome moment of my entire life, I call my dog to me and she immediately comes sprinting towards me, as if she hadn't seen me in 20 years, with her ears flopping in the wind and her tongue also flopping in the wind. I've never seen her run that fast towards anything in my life.

I love my dog so much sometimes that I just want to hug her and never let go. ❤️

you know you’re about to have your shit blown when a stranger things fic has a reference list several paragraphs long after every chapter.

after reading the premise i wasn’t sure this was going to be my cup of tea but i’m SO glad i ended up staying, because boy, was i very very wrong.

the plot is plotting, the narration is narrating, the characterization is characterizationing and characterizationing HARD, relationships are relationshipping like nobody’s business. this is absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing and captivating and just endlessly cool and neat in every conceivable way.

i’ve been going through something shitty recently, interpersonal relationship-vise, and all the little tidbits of these characters’ relationships with each other resonated so deeply with me, even if my situation was in no way even close to anything going on in the fic. there was everything i always wanted for myself but never got, all the worst shit i’ve ever felt, and so so much more and the entire thing kinda healed me but also probably fucked me up a little bit. but, like, in a good way.

and steddie’s love is so profound and tangible, in all the little details and all the big dramatic things and i just want to weep and smile and scream and like. whatever. good for them.

i truly feel blessed by the fact that such skilled and cool people are obsessed with the same characters and shows as me and i get to experience beautiful stories like these thanks to them. i guess there are still good things in this world worth living for, huh.

Here’s my weak message because @ps-cactus beat me to the amazing positivity post (you’re amazing girl I’m kidding btw 😭 it was wonderful thank you)

Although this year was crappier than most it had its good moments and the best part was meeting all of you here in the HL fandom. That has had its ups and downs as well but mostly you have all been wonderful, sweet and very supportive people who welcomed me in with open arms and made me feel important and I just love you all so much.

When I joined tumblr back in April I had no idea what would happen. And I was surprised in the most wonderful way. I made some great friends and mutuals, had people love and support my writing and characters as well as do some amazing art of them. In July I joined an amazing server and met even more great people.

You all have brought a lot of joy and laughter into my life and I now can’t imagine a life without you! Thank you for being amazing and inspiring, ily!

This year I have learned that even if I fall down I should still keep going because there are people that care for me even if it doesn’t seem like it. And even if I feel weak I am strong if I keep pushing through every day. There is hope and goodness on the other side.

My New Year’s resolution is more self improvement, so that may involve avoiding some parts of the fandom but it doesn’t mean I don’t love you and your work. 😊
