EVIL APPETITE
vegard “ ihsahn ” tveitan x reader
♡ general dating headcanons for ihsahn!
୨୧ i don’t think anyone else wants this but i do so i basically just made it for me lolol! if like, one other person does though that’s cool hehe <3
♡ related hc available here | view my metal masterlist here
reading music recommendations: from the castle in the fog by godkiller - maniac by hellhammer
♡ i can see ihsahn being so romantic!
୨୧ not the classy romantic type of course but metalhead romantic <3
♡ picnics in cemeteries, which usually just consists of you two sloppily making out on the blanket set up under a tree with the occasional elderly person passing by and tutting in disgust
୨୧ him gifting you a sizeable knife with both of your initials inside of a heart engraved on the flat side of shiny metal…
♡ y’know, that type of romantic!
୨୧ you LOVE painting his nails for him and he prefers when you paint them for him, you’re just better at doing it than him! your hands are less shaky and you take much more care than he does
♡ you did something once where you painted his nails on one hand as he did the same for you and it was… an experience!
୨୧ you two were constantly giggling between yourselves and telling the other to just sit still, when you guys finally finish you admire your work on ihsahns nails, almost perfect with minimal mess on the skin surrounding the nail
♡ but yours, painted by ihsahn, look pretty bad… like, there’s more nail polish on your skin than on your nails!
୨୧ you don’t get mad though, obviously not! you both just share a laugh at the difference in quality and he jokingly tries to blame you, you’ll really need to teach him how to paint nails better <3
“ fuck! yeah, okay, they’re bad… but it’s your fault! you kept moving, don’t move so much next time ” ( he can barely get the sentence out with how much you guys are laughing at the amount of nail polish is on your skin )
♡ when you and him first started dating, he would always steal your hair tie from your wrist, using it to tie his own hair back…
୨୧ it irritated you SO bad because sometimes you didn’t even feel him take it, you’d just go to tie your own hair back later on and boom, “ where the hell is my hair tie? IHSAHN! ”
♡ it was a simple fix though, you just have two hair ties on your wrist now! one for you and one for him
୨୧ he really likes when you play with his hair too, just the feeling of your nails scratching and massaging his scalp as you lay cuddled up on the couch watching a movie is enough to make him purr like a cat
♡ not to mention when you wash his hair for him? oh my god! his hair is pretty particular with it being curly and frizzy so it requires more care than your average straight hair and he never gets over how well you look out for him when it comes to his hair… wether it be grabbing a new shampoo you saw at the store and thought would be good for him or even just how you wash it for him, it makes him feel so loved <3
୨୧ he LOVES when you come to emperor concerts to support him! he really puts the absolute most effort into his vocals whenever you’re there!
♡ he always absolutely destroys his throat in the process which leads to him being coddled ( by coddled i just mean kissed and asked if it hurts super bad ) by you when the concert ends, both of you going to grab some slushes from a 24/7 convince store to soothe his raw throat
୨୧ sometimes other members of emperor will tag along, most commonly faust who just constantly pokes fun at how scratchy and fucked up ihsahn’s voice now sounds… always causing ihsahn to roll his eyes and you to give him a gentle smack on the shoulder as he walks beside you two
♡ as i mentioned in kinky business, he really does see himself settling down with you in the future!
୨୧ and whilst he does not want kids right now, he’d be lying if he said he hasn’t caught himself daydreaming about what your kids would look like and what you’d name them <3 in his daydreams, they always look like little mini versions of you, you’re perfect to him so why wouldn’t the kids look like you? they do have his hair though, he fully believes your genes don’t stand a chance against his when it comes to hair…
♡ he’s SO clingy when drunk, like he doesn’t want to even have his hands off you, he wants to be holding your hand or have an arm wrapped around your back at all times
୨୧ he just gets so lovey dovey too, he’s not a loud and annoying drunk he’s a quiet and clingy drunk! he’ll just be mumbling almost unintelligible sentences right in your ear whilst a big dopey smile is painted across his face
“ love you s’much, you know that? you know that, right? don’t know what i’d do without you… ” ( you can only make out about three of the words he said and just tell him you love him too which leads to him giving you a sloppy kiss on your cheek and saying “ hell yeah y’do ” )
♡ i feel like he’d be so soft in bed, not a complete sub but definitely not a dom and he loves when you’re on top
୨୧ but just because you’re on top doesn’t mean he has no control over you, oh no, he has a firm ( yet soft ) grip on your hips, guiding them up and down, back and forth
♡ he’s SUPER loud too, i just know it, he can get kind of embarrassed by how loud he moans and groans but you always assure him you think it’s hot ( because it is, i love when men moan )
“ right there, oh fuck! you like that, yeah? ‘m so deep in you, fucking hell… ” ( you genuinely need to put a hand over his mouth sometimes because… oh my god, he needs to relax just a little )
୨୧ the amount of times you’ve had quickies with him backstage before an emperor concert is crazy and due to his… volume, he always gets joked with by the rest of the band who definitely heard you two
♡ i mean, how wouldn’t they? the backstage area is only so big and they’re nosy…

My recap/review of På Holmen - Episode 3
Ylvis are back for more, this time with Magnus in charge. And like before I invite everyone to discuss the third episode with me, either here, or on facebook in Ylvis- a group.
Here’s my chronological recap/review of the third episode of ‘Ylvis På Holmen med Calle og Magnus’
Episode 3
Magnus doing a good job at teasing what’s coming in his episode
the lengths they went for with shooting the boat intro is very much appreaciated
they could’ve gone the easy way and just film all arriving in one boat but they reshot it several times, gotta love perfectionists (hence the adding slurping sound for Calle eating ice cream?)
look whose entering a Chris Evans Knives Out look-alike contest with the beige knitted sweater combo. This look might replace my previous favourite beige look of his which was on the Tørnquist show
Is Calle wearing Bård’s pants from episode 2? Is Bård wearing Vegard’s pants from episode 2??
Magnus seems more at ease already although being the host. Maybe because this time he has control? I would guess that he might not be able to read the rest as well as they do each other which makes all the spontaneous impro parts harder for him I supppose. I am already pleaseantly surprised
I might not have liked that he replaced the verse singing for the summer tree poem but I am glad he went with what he most likely felt more comfortable with
I could write so much about Bård just casually sitting in his chair and looking way too good but I’ll restrain myself from doing that in this recap
the question about the difference between Magnus and the other three was so vague that I didn’t know if the outcome would be funny. I was wrong, it was
Magnus naming the one thing that at least Ylvis pretty much avoids at all costs (irony alert)
Calle’s face looking like he’s questioning his own fee when hearing how much they get
‘Hva er prisen’ reminds me of ‘The Price Is Right’ and could’ve been a real funny segment. But sadly (entertainment-wise) it seems that a norwegian celebrity isn’t as removed from the normal people as in other countries
but the whole skit was still enjoyable enough to watch because they are too competitive to not make it fun
can someone please explain to me why Bård says ‘Chicago’ when him and Calle have the same amount? Is that another sort of loan word colloquial term like ‘Texas’ that Norwegians use?
Bård saying that he tries to raise his children poor. In a way I believe him. I think him to be the strictest parents out of all three.
the best thing about Latterkongen for me is still the jury losing it rather than the contestants competing for the title
if Ylvis would update their merchandise shop it should include that royal plastic sausage that gets used a lot
the fact that the puppet is called Calle is very irritating
that poor person who had to clean the ice cream machine after making those lunch flavours.
I enjoyed that guessing segment very much. It also meant another competitive live situation which are always the best
also I was curious myself as to how those ice cream flavours would taste, even knowing what’s in it
Bård being impatient with Vegard is funny in a way, since he probably knows that otherwise he starts to get into explaining mode. He already did that a bit at the beginning of tasting his flavour of ice cream. Vegard can’t help himself but giving extra commentary to everything.
Bård doing little victory dances. He’s a five year old in a 38 year old man’s body.
and right after biting into a lemon to lose the taste of the ice cream.
I didn’t get that gospel poem thing Magnus did but since it was only a tiny part of the whole episode, it didn’t really dampen the mood too much
I loved that Magnus brought up the Ellen interview
I would have loved to hear a statement but I guess that’s not funny enough for that fomat
but the bit that Magnus did with them because of it was pure genius and I would’ve have predicted a whole other outcome
the psychologist interview at Concorde. Thank you Magnus for once again giving us an inside look to the office space
shout out to the camera man for giving me a beautiful shot of Bård’s backside hair
I get that the way they have worked together or that long and that interview being taken at their office that the rational side in them is bigger than the emotional one
I agree with Bård, I would’ve though him to score highest as well (you’re still my favourite though) and the bit with Magnus in question to be punished in the previous episode made me believe that even more
Bård being surprised by his own result and immediately trying to excuse it with a ‘cake-sending’reply. Looks like he wants to keep the little shit title more than he cares to admit
Vegard’s remark about cheating the test was really good. Kudos for that.
I wonder if Bård’s rain dance stems from his time in Africa
Aleksander not understanding what the farm instructor says is very relatable to all foreign language learning fans
I don’t think I ever imagined the words birds and brothel to be in one sentence, but they did have a point
what’s with Calle always hurting himself while cutting things. First at the race car challenge and now here. He is a health risk for sure
Bård slightly questioning how masculine he appears when sewing something while Aleksander is sawing without his shirt on has to be one of the funniest revelations on that whole Garden segment
Bård being worried about having a stiff one in his back and Svein comforting him that this won’t be before morning. They really don’t have any filters when talking and it‘s half the fun of that whole Garden thing
the hen is called Kinder! Kinder!! She laid KINDER Eggs!!! How did I miss that joke the first time around?!
and suddenly all turned into sour losers and are throwing the pieces into the fire
I want to know who threw the bucket
the ending of that episode with the aftermatch talk is something we saw in a similar way on IKMY but it was fun either way
the boys clearly rather portraying another persona than themselves
I didn’t have any expectations for this episode but I was truly pleasantly surprised by the ideas that Magnus had for his time hosting

¡Vamos a España! - Chap 7
Chapter 7
Luta is a weasel, not a ferret -_- Internet told me both and it confused me.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/29442912/chapters/73201191
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13819897/7/Vamos-a-Espa%C3%B1a
https://www.wattpad.com/1033233216-%C2%A1vamos-a-espa%C3%B1a-chapter-7
The flight of Rollan and the rest of the passengers was soon approaching their destination. With major of the passengers sitting outside of the room on their seats looking out at the window at the landscape under them.
Rollan sat on the bed with the troll cubs watching them eat the last cookies from the last package he had in his backpack, then looked up at the small lavatory that was inside his room and he got up and opened the tap to pass his hands with water and passed his face with it, then looked at his reflection on the mirror with a neutral facial expression.
Luta threw the last card above the others and squeaked in happiness as she won the match, then got picked up by the brown-red troll, which hugged her hard causing her to whine while the rest of the trolls laughed playfully unaware of squeezing the weasel too much. Rollan looked back at the cubs, then Luta slipped out of the cub‘s arms at Rollan‘s hands, then he placed her on the lavatory to look at her using her paw to sign the cubs she has her eyes on them.
„I assumed you enjoyed playing with them,“ Rollan commented looking at Luta, which nodded and squeaked at Rollan, confusing him as he didn‘t know what she meant. „Okay…..,“
Rollan opened his backpack to look into it then took out a small portrait which had Gerda painted on it by her younger brother.
„Te extraño tanto“ Rollan commented, then felt Luta get on his shoulder to look at the picture, then she glanced at Rollan and sank her head too. „Feel you,“
Someone knocked on the door taking Rollan out of his thoughts, then he heads to the door and heard the person behind the door speak before he opens it.
„Sir I advise you to head back to the seat. We‘re soon landing,“
„Yes, I‘m coming,“ Rollan answered then picked up his backpack and placed it on the bed to close it, then looked at the triplets and remembered the seat wasn‘t large enough. „Hey I‘m not sure if we all fit on the seats there in the front,“ Rollan mentioned, then watched all three cubs get down of the bed to the door and waited for him to tag along. Rollan shrugged his shoulders, then opened the door and watched the cubs ran at the stairs, followed by Rollan, which accompanied them and they reached to the only front seat, that was free and the oldest brothers sat together on the seat leaving the last cub on the ground and look around for another seat. Rollan found a free spot on the back row and sat down, then watched the younger troll cub get onto his lap, then looked up at Rollan making him smile, then he looked forward at a woman, which was smiling enchanted at Rollan‘s facial expression towards the cub. Rollan grinned embarrassed, then watched the cub pull his hands to play with.
„I‘ve never seen such….interesting creatures. Are they some sort of dogs?“ The woman asked making Rollan smile a little lost at the woman‘s notice about the trolls.
„Well….They‘re Spanish…...water dogs,“ Rollan made up making the woman chuckle.
„No, they‘re not. My father has some on his farm. It‘s impossible,“ The woman countered, then observed the weasel squeak to Rollan, which listened to her. „Does the weasel talk to you?“
„Sort of….,“ Rollan responded. „You know actually I‘m from Spain and I came here to find a specific wishing stone, but this stone sort of…...caused a mess…...it turned my family into these……..animals,“
„Oh, that‘s awful. Those were your kids?“ The woman asked earning a nod from Rollan.
„Yes….“ Rollan answered looking at the weasel which nodded at him. „Those are Paco….Diego and…...Juanito? Rollan made up earning a nod from the woman.
„And the weasel is your wife, right?“
„Yes…..,“ Rollan answered looking up at Luta making her chuckle. The woman looked to the front again, along with Rollan and the cub to see the flight assistant with a funnel in front of his mouth, to announce a message to the passengers to hear it.
„Ladies and gentlemen. Soon we will land in Madrid. I advise you all to stay seated in your seat until our zeppelin has come to a full stop. As you see out of the window it‘s a sunny afternoon and we‘ve got at the moment 16:50, two yours earlier than our departure point,“
Rollan gazed out of the window along with the cub, then saw the number of small houses under on the ground and the little cub on his lap cheered at the look making Rollan chuckle.
„Yep, that‘s Madrid. But we‘re not going to stay here, we‘re going to my mama‘s home,“ Rollan explained. „She lives at a house near the coast. In Alicante!,“
Luta got on the other side of Rollan‘s shoulder to look out at the landscape, soon the zeppelin began to sink down carefully, then Rollan leaned his face closer to the window to observe them in a large field and several persons waiting for the airship to get closer to the ground. Soon the persons ran towards the zeppelin disappearing, then three showed up again pulling on a rope, that was attached on the vehicle and ran with it further away from the zeppelin. Rollan sensed the vehicle move down slowly, while the tail of it moved a little to correct its line and Rollan spotted a few men hold the zeppelin on the landing gear, then they assisted the vehicle getting down on the ground and waited for the next step of the airline crew.
The assistant received a thumb up from the pilot, then he opened up the door of the airship and gave the persons out a thumb up which got away from the landing gear and stepped aside, while the third and fifth member got back to the first three on the rope to help. The zeppelin landed on the ground with success making the passengers clap at the landing, then the assistant took her funnel again to give out the last announcement before the passengers could leave.
„Bienvenido a Madrid, ladies, and gentleman. I really hope you enjoyed our flight and we will be glad to receive you once again on the next flight,“
The inmates got up along with the Spaniard, which met up with the other troll cubs, then Rollan got down and placed the youngest cub he had on his arms on his shoulders, then picked up the oldest cub onto his arms and thought about the last one how he should pick him up. The cub noticed Rollan was lost on how to handle the three, then raised his arm at the boy, which widened his eyes in surprise at the cub‘s offer and took it.
„Awww,“ A few passengers commented making Rollan feel uncomfortable.
Soon the passengers had gotten all out, Rollan headed to the train station and stood under a departure board with destinations, then found a locomotive, which had listed Alicante as a destination, then looked at the time and the railway and shrieked as it was in a few minutes.
„Oh oh, the train will depart in a few minutes,“ Rollan mentioned, then Luta saluted and jumped on the ground running along the station, then Rollan ran along with the three cubs behind the weasel looking for the railway their train will be.
In the evening after dinner, Gerda, Kai and their parents sat around the dinner table playing on a wooden board game together against each other. Vegard threw the dice watching it land with the five dots up, then he moved his green figure on the board and stood three boxes behind it.
„Kai you better watch out or you‘ll lose your position,“ Vegard warned earning a nod from the son, then watched Gerda take the dice to throw the number three, then she moved with her red figure forward. Una picked the dice to throw a number and moved her yellow figure further and looked at Gerda, which was watching her mother moving.
„Have you heard anything of the troll kids?“ Una asked making Gerda shake her head.
„No,“ Gerda answered. „Alfida hasn‘t managed to ask out all the pilots that were there on the the airfield which could have seen something,“
„Orm could have walked them to the ship instead of sending them alone. I‘m starting to believe, that they were most likely kidnapped,“ Mentioned Kai.
„I‘m wondering if they really got kidnapped, wouldn‘t it be a little weird, that all of the three got kidnapped? Isn‘t it a little too unlikely for three to be kidnapped at the same time?“
„It does sound unlikely, to be honest, but at the same time I can‘t imagine them disappear into the zeppelin with Rollan,“
„We could have missed it. We missed the moment they disappeared from our sight, but I feel like this version makes more sense. Remember them wanting to hop at Rollan‘s backpack because of the baguette? This is why I believe this theory to be the closest one to the trolls“
„Maybe you‘re right,“ Kai pointed out throwing the dice to get a two, then moved his figure forward. „If they‘re really with Rollan they must have arrived in Spain already and Rollan may think of a way to bring them back or at least tell us they‘re fine.,“
„Did you hear anything about the swift you sent with the message yet?“ Vegard asked.
„No. He must still be flying,“ Kai answered. „I‘m not sure how long he will take even though he‘s fast,“
„He‘s not as fast as a train. You‘ll be waiting for weeks until he returns,“
„We will be waiting in any way very long, dad. I feel like it would be better if some of us would take an airship and go out on our own to make sure, we‘re on a right path. How are we sure Leaf managed to reach Spain? What if he gets hurt during the flight and passes away? Or he gets lost instead?“ Mentioned Gerda to her father, which listened to the negative possibilities.
„Shall we check on Alfida the next following days and ask her on her opinion about us going all to Spain?“ Suggested the younger brother. „I know we decided something else, but I‘m starting to believe you that makes no sense waiting the entire time,“
„I think you‘re right Kai. Tomorrow after work, we will head to the airfield and pass by Alfida. We talk with her about it and see what she says,“ Commented the blonde girl making the brother nod.

The New Digital World of Work
Last week, I had the privilege to participate in a panel discussion initiated by the Business Psychology Association (BPA) (a student run organization at BI Norwegian Business School) about “The New Digital World of Work", with topics as digital automation and the future of people at work, human machine interaction, amongst others. The other participants were Kristin Grøntoft (previously the Social Media head in Aftenposten, now the same role in IF Insurance), Sven Kinden Iversen (Senior advisor and HR practitioner at HR Norway) and Trygve Halvorsen (Senior advisor and Digital Strategy Lead, Accenture Norway). The debate was (brilliantly) lead by Vegard Kolbjørnsrud (assistant professor at BI Business School, and senior research fellow with Accenture).
In the following is my opening note in the panel debate, and my answers to the questions asked;
“In order to understand the present and the future of digital automatization and work, we need to look back, to the past.
Having machines «to do» our work is really nothing new. This is the key characteristic in the industrial revolution. Think of agriculture and how the tractor replaced the horse, the assembly line or scientific management. The industrial society split work processes into tasks, tasks that could be automated and replaced by machines. The first automatic flour mill was built in 1785. “Robots” have been building cars for years, machines have printed the paper, and a machine in my home takes care of my laundry so I don’t have to wash my clothes myself in Akerselva (thank God).
Fordism meant automation and assembly lines - out with skilled craftspeople and slow work, in with a new machine-made era. But it was more than just a new set of tools. It produced a new understanding of labor, the human relationship to work, and society at large (boyd and Crawford 2012).
Similarly, computerized databases are not new. The U.S. Bureau of the Census deployed the world’s first automated processing equipment in 1890: the punch-card machine. Relational databases emerged in the 1960s. Hypes about artificial intelligence have occurred regularly since the 1960s (Forsythe 2001).
What is new, however, is the technological advancement and the amount of data we have at hand.
Due to the increased automation of data collection and analysis - it is necessary to ask which systems are driving these practices, and which are regulating them (boyd and Crawford 2012).
We need to ask at least three different set of questions,
First, «Who and what is automation for?” The market sees Big Data and automatization as pure opportunities. However, will it enable us create better tools, services, and public goods? Surveillance is a huge threat – details of my driving is tracked and sent to my insurance company that also have my medical record. In the future, citizens might not be treated equally and fair. We need to think carefully about why we want to automate, and make our decisions based on thoughtful reasons, not simply “because we can or because we have the technology”.
Second, we need to question, “Who decides the code and the rules in automated systems?” For example, the ‘data cleaning’ process concerns making decisions about what attributes and variables will be counted, and which will be ignored. This process is subjective. Computer systems and technological tools contain embedded values held by those who construct them (Forsythe 2001). Code and numbers are not neutral. The design decisions that determine what will be measured stem from someone’s interpretation. Automatization – similar to big data - concerns a profound change at the levels of epistemology and ethics (boyd and Crawford 2012). Take self-driving cars. These are built on the logics of a rational thinking. If a child jumps out in the street in front of my car, and the computer system has already calculated that the lives of the two elderly people standing on the other side is less valuable than the child, in what direction will the car turn? What will be the car’s choice? Who designs and decides the car’s choice?
Third, we need to ask “What can be automated and what can not?”. The answer depends on who you ask. Computer scientist and social scientists and philosophers understand ‘knowledge’ differently. Computer scientists’ view knowledge as facts one can capture, compute and make predictions on.
Anthropologist (Suchman 1987, Forsythe 2001) and philosophers (Wittgenstein 1972) see knowledge in a less positivistic sense, as something you can not separate from context nor the individual. Even some knowledge management scholars (e.g. (Stenmark 2002) acknowledge there is a difference between data, information and knowledge.
‘Knowledge’ contains things that are never said, but that we know (Pettersen 2016). ‘Knowing’ is very difficult to code and program, because there is not any universal answers. For the work place, people solve the same problems very differently. Who is to decide which way is the correct way? In my research of a multinational organization (Pettersen 2015), I asked employees about which number represents the most urgent work task in a list numbered from 1 to five. Some said five – the highest number was interpreted as the most important, - others said one: the first number is most important – (that however, depend on the direction you read). Creating one universal and shared understanding will prove difficult. (Take Esperanto!).
Facts however, have correct solutions that lies in the past. That why IBM’s Watson can win jeopardy or why machines can win chess games. It’s based on memory and logic. That can be computed. Abstract problems whose solutions not yet exist – however – lies in the future, and in order to be solved, abstract reasoning, often with other people, is needed.
In philosophy and AI (especially, knowledge based systems), the qualification problem is concerned with the impossibility of listing all the preconditions required for a real-world action to have its intended effect. We will never be able to describe all possible conditions for a real-life event. As an example, when the chocolatier Freia had a campaign where we all could make our personalized chocolate badge, an unintended consequence was the massive amount of Norwegians creating chocolate labels with negative meanings (Pettersen and Larsson 2016). Freia replied by censoring constructs and terms – however, they would never be able to code e v e r y s i n g l e w o r d or all kinds of compositions of letters or constructs in the whole world that would have a negative meaning.
Microsoft launched an experiment last year in “conventional understanding” – a twitter account named Tay, based on an artificial intelligent system. In less that 24 hours Tay went from being super-cool to be a racist. Tay interpreted the context and responses due to machine learning, yet did not know what ‘a Hitler’ or ‘a feminist’ was. It only saw grammatical rules. The programmers assumed people at Twitter to act in accordance with certain norms (being kind and polite).
To conclude, we must acknowledge computer systems’ strengths and weaknesses, and analyze unintended consequences before we deploy automated systems. We need to keep in mind that members in our society are different in terms of age, digital competence and digital accessibility. And just because we have new technology that does not mean existing laws and legislations is not still valid. And we need to come up with better constructs and definitions! ‘Artificial intelligence’ for example, is misleading”.
Which jobs will disappear, be born, and what will the division of labor between humans and machines look like?
In the western world we might see that blue collar work, routine jobs, plenty of jobs in bureaucracies (which is great because this might mean that a lot of important applications (e.g. child welfare) might be processed a lot faster), call centers, cash registers in stores, real estate agencies (hurray!), accounting, disappear. We still will need doctors and other types of specialists, but they may benefit from an automated assistant so they can spend more time with patients, and less time on search and paper work. An unintended consequence might be a greater divide between the west and the rest. Unfortunately, automatization might mean the end of craftsmanship as we know it (see (Sennett 2008) for a great description of craftsmanship). Anything that can be broken up to numbers and rules might risk being replaced by computer systems. I think customer service will be a competitive advantage in the future.
We can’t even imagine future jobs today. Interaction designers was a profession born in the wake of the internet. I think we will have a whole lot of internet workers in the future. Ethic engineers, privacy consultants are new types of (important) jobs and work titles that will occur. There will be openings for more specialisation for humans, and less blue collar and routine work. Who will loose? Those without an education, those that are happy to have a job in order to get a paycheck. Not everyone are knowledge workers that think for a living – and that should neither be a goal. We risk getting a less diverse society. Possible unintended consequences are new divides between people, e.g. working class people and craftsmanship.
One of the opportunities that follows with the new digital era is that it might simplify plenty of processes for the benefit of citizens, for example in offering democratic availability to public services. However, digitalization in Norway is not even there yet… (and we still don't have enterprise search that works well!!)
My dream intelligent application that would improve or simplify my own work would be a system that takes care of my travel expenses (make my travel bill) so I don’t have to spend one or two hours to create one myself after travelling for work! An assistant that does all this work for me automatically so I just have to sign. (In most of these systems, we still need to enclose print recipes!).
Which skills do workers and professionals need to master when working with human and machine colleagues?
Analytical, creative and critical thinking. Social and technological “skills” – understanding technology, not necessary coding skills.
Which skills will become obsolete?
In a long-term perspective and in the western world: being handy.
What is your best recommendation to the audience for what they should do tomorrow to prepare for and shape the work of the future?
Keep updated and be open to change. Get technical, ethical and privacy skills, and read philosophy, history and keep yourself updated by reading newspapers. Stimulate your critical and creative thinking. Remember that others hold different values and practices than yourself. Use question marks when you think.
“With constrains comes opportunities” Giddens (1984).
