let's talk about project 2025 and smut.

bc I've seen some of my favorite authors already state they aren't writing any more smut due to the mere threat of project 2025 going into effect. And hey, I'm a simple person who likes to read abt sexy times.

pls read through all the way and share if ya like any of what i wrote here - i don't want panic to be spreading through the writers of tumblr/ao3 like wildfire unchecked.

qualifications: BA in political science focusing on domestic policy, activism and ethnic studies.

Part I - what is it?

project 2025 at its core is a roadmap. it was created by the Heritage Foundation (an extremely far right disgusting think tank), and plenty of people associated with the previous and incoming Trump presidency. its like 900 pages of alt-right, christian nationalist bullshit.

but its not uncommon.

think tanks like the Heritage Foundation often create roadmaps like this to plot out what they would most want to see in a future presidency or period of political control. it isn't even particular to right-wing think tanks; left wing ones do it too! the difference in this case is the magnitude and attention paid to the manifesto.

the heritage foundation is a vast organization with a lot of money, and has had a part in US politics for a long ass time now. because of this, what they say/do carries a bit more weight. combined with the fact that dems in the past election used project 2025 as a common refrain (instead of like, developing their own policy but whatevs), you get a general public who is aware of the buzzword "project 2025" but not knowledgeable about what it contains.

what it does actually include is certainly worrying, but among the new freaky shit is a ton of stuff that has been on the republican party's to do list since day one, like dismantling the department of education. just reading that seems really shocking, i know, but if you look back to when the department was created, you will find evidence of republicans trying desperately to dismantle it.

i find the media flurry around project 2025 to be a bit concerning, because while i understand dems wanting to show voters how dangerous this shit can be, its also made it into something far more important than it could actually be. as i stated earlier, these types of policy blueprints are extremely common among think tanks. its like their entire job!! and yes, this one is scarier and more visible than others, but it

a.) isn't the official policy of the incoming admin (and if you look at their actual policy statement, its very clear they don't rly have policies, so who knows what that's gonna look like)

b.) isn't united states federal law

Part II - what's it gonna look like?

i'm not gonna sit here and say you shouldn't be worried about project 2025, bc a lot of whats in it is freaky asf. but that freakiness is what (in my opinion) will be its primary challenge. since its so out there, the extreme right wing republicans are going to have to work their asses off to get the votes they need to pass these things.

which brings me to another point-- project 2025 is a whole list of proposals. its not like republicans can put forth one bill that has the entirety of project 2025 in it and pass it all at once. for a whole laundry list of reasons, that's not possible. the process of getting one bill passed through the house and senate is an excruciatingly long one, and doing this process for 900 pages worth of plans ain't gonna be easy.

i should mention that donald trump has yet to endorse the plan as his own, so there's the real possibility that he wont even want to implement any of the ideas included. i could 100% see him ignoring the entire plan because he doesn't like that someone else came up with it tbh. and while i don't believe he has never heard of the heritage foundation, as he has claimed in the past, i think it is important to note that there hasn't been any confirmation from him that project 2025 is his roadmap.

the plan includes rollbacks of rights for every minority group possible, restrictions on immigration, access to morning-after pills, restructuring of the federal government to allow for easier hiring and firing based on little/no evidence, etc. all in all, not great.

but again, project 2025 isn't united states federal law

Part III - what does it mean for fanfic authors?

the section that has the fanfic-consuming/creating world in a tizzy is the bit about outlawing pornography. this is a concerning policy propsal, but not because of possible fanfic bans. rather, bc project 2025 and the heritage foundation at large sees queerness as inherently and exclusively sexual.

"pornography, manifested today in the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology and sexualization of children" (The Heritage Foundation, p.5)

thus, if they ban pornography (with a definition that includes/focuses on queerness), they can effectively ban expressions of queerness in the united states.

that shit is scary. and while i never want to rely on foundational documents when the people interpreting those documents (court justices (esp those appointed by the previous and incoming trump admin)), i will hesitantly say that this is gonna be a tough sell. both from a constitutional standpoint, and from a broad base support standpoint.

for the first of the two points, arguing that the first amendment doesn't "apply" to something is always a slippery slope, and defending that point is extraordinarily difficult. obviously this isnt always the case, but especially relating to pornography and obscenity, proving that a work fails the Miller test (a three part test created in Miller v. California (1973) to determine if something is obscene or not) is, like, really hard (heh).*

while the miller test is precedent for specific cases that come up in the court system, if some version of the porn ban goes into effect, the US court system is going to be dealing with challenges from every state, every form of media, every fandom.

which brings me to the second point. broad base support.

while the headline about Grindr crashing in Milwaukee during the RNC wasn't true in 2024, republican events in previous have brought an influx in users to the area in which the events are held if ya know what i'm sayin👀

on a real note though, getting a pornography ban passed in the united states would be exceedingly hard (no pun intended). especially one that includes forms of media like written pornography, not just visual. in terms of feasibility, a ban on video pornography is incrementally more likely than one on all forms of pornography. arguments against porn are weak at best, and the anti-porn movement in the US (usually religious) has been trying, and failing, for decades to ban pornography. most content about porn bans also refers primarily to video-based porn, not written smut.

let's just say worst case scenario something like this does go into action. anything you've written before the law goes into action cannot be used as a way to prosecute you. that would be an example of ex post facto punishment, which is explicitly prohibited in the constitution and by court precedent.

*note: i'm not endorsing the way the US court precedents around porn/obscenity look, as they are another symptom of purity culture and anti-sex culture created in the US

Part IV - what do we do?

well, giving up before a bill has even been proposed ain't it. it makes me deeply sad to see so many writers saying they wont be writing smut anymore because of the vague possibility of this plan. not only does it make me sad, it makes me angry. because that means people have seen so much misinformation about what project 2025 is and how it works that they are too scared to do anything about it. let me repeat again.

project 2025 is not law in the united states of america, nor is it in the process of becoming so. act accordingly.

so go forth, write smut, be gay, do some shit to make the heritage foundation angry today. and don't give up before the battle has even started. bc that's how they win. and i know shit seems really scary, but community and mutual aid is how we are gonna make it through this, so do your due diligence and research what you're scared about! knowledge is power and you gotta wield that sh*t.

Omfg I swear some of these people have a hobby of just going out of their way to be rude to retail workers. Was checking out this crusty old hag, and before anything even went down I knew she was gonna be a cunt to me. For a few items in her basket, the “do you want to purchase a protection plan for this item?” Screen comes up and ofc I ask her. She doesn’t bother to look me in the eye, rolls her eyes, and says “no” with a tone like I’m supposed to somehow read her mind and already know her answer.

Here’s where the trouble rly begins: this woman is buying half the goddamn store basically. And rather than quickly unloading all her stuff onto the belt, she is carefully, agonizingly taking the items from the cart, looking at them, fhen placing them on the belt one by one. Because of this, her cart is still at the other end of the belt even though I’ve already scanned so many items. My bench where I put the bags of groceries is already overflowing, and since she STILL hasn’t finished unloading her cart, I start to place some bags on the floor. Neatly, making sure no food spills out.

Well she finally fucking finishes unloading and brings her cart up to the front. She sees the bags on the floor. Immediately starts cussing me out. I try to explain to her that I was running out of room and had nowhere else to put them. I also explain to her that people typically put their cart at the front so I can start loading their groceries before the bench starts to overflow. Well then she starts complaining that I’m telling her what to do, telling her how to shop. I tell her “ma’am I’m just explaining to you my reasoning for doing what I did. I didn’t know what else to do.”

She looks flabbergasted and she’s like “well, you could’ve just waited!!!!” Like no I’m sorry but I’m not just gonna sit there doing nothing while you unload your cart one fucking item at a time, waiting for you to bring your cart around so I can load it. There’s other people that need to check out so I’m gonna keep scanning shit.

Anyway she’s just going on and on about how rude I am, how awful the service is here, etc etc…. Like if it’s so bad then don’t come back. You’d be doing us both a favor you mean old cunt. Jesus Christ

And you know, something tells me that even if I HAD done things “her” way, and just stood there waiting for to finish emptying her cart so that I could resume scanning, that she would’ve bitched about that too. Some people just have nothing better to do than harass retail workers and look for things to complain about. What a sad pathetic life you’re living lady. I think a lot of people aren’t aware that there have been actors on the server for weeks and system admins for even longer so this is probably out of nowhere for them. Especially if their only interaction with the server has been doomscrolling and fanfic (reasonably so). They don’t know that since the server re-opened the amount of admins on has been slowly growing. Still, it rubs me the wrong way when people say the admins who stay are being exploited and just don’t know better like they’re not people with agency.

I still want backpay in reparations to former employees, but I know that takes money they don’t have right now, and every testimonial said how wonderful the whole team was except a few people and there was nary a complaint about the acting/rp aspect of the work. It remains to be seen if the toxic work culture has been fixed, and I doubt it because that takes time that being from different cultures complicates further, but I’m willing to give them a try. You don’t fix a toxic culture by through hypotheticals and prep alone. Things need to run so they can test out their changes to see if they hold.

Also this event could literally just be as nothing as re-opening the old spawn for all we know. We know nothing and we’re all jumping to conclusions.

i think this is all pretty good but doubley so on that last bit. like we rly dont know what this event even is lol. it could be something great! it could be really needed rn. people assumed it was like huge lore which fair the photo is pretty mysterious but also it could be like SO many things. being cautiously optimistic.

I hate government programs in the US bc conservatives are always trying to dismantle them so the lefty byline is always like "these programs are vital and lifesaving and keep so many people from starving and being homeless, they're Very Good and you have a moral obligation to protect and defend them!" and the program is question is something called the National Anti Hunger Initiative or NAHI and it only applies to people who have $527 or less a month in Net Perforated Index-Subnet Income (NPISI) before taxes and housing costs and the program gives you a $99 a month voucher that reloads every 1/80th waxing moon that is only good for buying specific brands of gruel BUT you only get to take 200 breaths a day when you're on the program and for every breath over 200 you take they subtract one dollar from the vouchers you receive and you have to count and report your own breaths bc they don't have the funding to do that and if you misrepresent the amount of breaths you take that's Breath Fraud and there's a hotline you can call to report someone's Breath Fraud and you can be denied gruel vouchers for the rest of your life if youre accused of Breath Fraud. And you're just like. Not allowed to complain abt this bc apparently the only alternative to this is no one ever gets gruel vouchers

i used to rly enjoy this hobby but idk how to get over it and recover // i am so sorry this happened to you. i’ve been in a similar situation and there’s no excuse for such abusive behavior towards anyone in this hobby. report that rper to your group’s admins, but also on whatever platform you received those messages. bc you are likely not the first or the last they will send those too.

that said, please take a break. do something you enjoy that’s off the internet for a few days. see actual people whose company you enjoy having and who love you. get away from the environment that you experienced that abuse in so that when you do come back, you have a better perspective and feel refreshed. you don’t deserve that kind of reaction, no one does. so do what you need to in order to build yourself back up

do u have any advice as an admin for how to deal with long term inactive members? a person in ur rp who has never rly been active since day one. they either do the bare min. for ac every now and then or take hiatus after hiatus, and they dont seem interested but also dont want to leave. in particular they are someone holding a spot that a lot of people want or is rly pivotal to the plot. after reaching out and asking for them to step up there's no change, is it wrong to ask them to leave? does it mean trying to do more for them to write? i dont want ever to be mean and also dont want someone to bad mouth me to 50 blogs bc i asked them to step down. not a current situation just one that ive had and felt at a loss with and thinking about

hey anon!! so i've actually had a similar situation before and i know it's really nerve-wracking and frustrating. given all the information you've shared with me, i'd say it's not wrong to ask them to leave. they're holding a spot that's pivotal to your plot that isn't going to move if they're never around AND it's also so disruptive to the other players who have connections with this writer. idk what their response was when you initially reached out and asked them to step up or how long this has been going on specifically but if you're coming to an rpt for advice it's clearly gone on till you're reaching a breaking point. i get it –– it's never fun being the "bad guy" admin but at the end of the day you need to do what's right for your group.

i have two points of advice on this situation for you to do with as you wish:

you can ask this player to leave and just get it over with. obviously be polite about it and professional about it and state the reasoning why. you've mentioned having a conversation with them to step up so that is something you can reference and mention that there's been no change since then and how it's affecting the group negatively.

you can give them one more shot. i get that real life factors might be influencing their activity and their lack of interest might not be intentional. i've also been that player who kept going on back to back hiatuses because i was having physical health issues on top of other, uh, pretty traumatic events that went on in the course of six months. i didn't want to leave the group but life just kept getting in the way unexpectedly. if you go this route, talk with them seriously and maybe ask if there's something going on that you should be aware of. again, mention your previous conversation about stepping up and seeing no change. i'd recommend no longer granting them a hiatus either (well, depending on the circumstances if they really need one, go with your gut) and giving them a stern warning that if things don't change in x amount of time they'll be removed from the group. and then go from there.

💋had a customer today insuate that I’m a racist simply because I greeted her. It’s hilarious honestly bc me and one of the cool leaders were talking about ppl pulling the “you’re just profiling me” card for any and everything, even if they WERE actually up to no good. I’ve seen it happen to several of my leaders and coworkers but it’s never happened to me til now.

And it happened literally as me and that leader were still talking. She walked in, and since I was speaking with him, I just gave her a quick “welcome!” She just kinda mumbled an acknowledgment but didn’t rly return my greeting, but whatever right? Well my leader goes off to do his own stuff, and so I take the time to actually greet her the way I normally do with customers (“hello welcome to ******* did you need help finding anything today? No? For sure, whenever you’re ready just meet me at the counter to check out!”). She is again kind of rude and acts like me greeting her is just the weirdest thing ever. Again, I just say whatever and keep doing my job like normal.

I then take a few laps around my store (bc if I stand in one spot too long I can get in trouble and am automatically blamed for any theft in the store) and I passed by her exactly one time. Tbh I wasn’t even rly perceiving her, I was just pacing around and picking at my fingernaiks while totally zoned out. One time I walked past her and I didn’t even say anything but I guess that was enough to set her off. She sees me walking past and just loses it. She gets all huffy and starts going on about “you are hovering way too much. I don’t need this. You didn’t do this with the other people. This is just too much and I don’t need this, I’m leaving.” Like… bestie, I’m literally just doing my job. I haven’t treated you any different from how I treat literally every other customer to walk in here. And the people she was talking about was a group of kids that poked their heads in the store and then immediately left. I’m also a POC myself so this just makes it doubly stupid. I wonder too if I hadn’t greeted her, would she still pull the racist card and say I didn’t say hello to her because of her race? God like obviously I know racial profiling is real issue especially for African American people, but this was so clearly NOT that that I’m truly astounded how this woman can actually think i was being racist against her. Just doing my fucking job makes me a bigot I guess…?

I think it's amazing and I maybe bias ? cause I like quackity but anyway. so dream wrote on his private twitter and said "So excited to see quackity's server. just thought I'd say in advance that I've been working on a similar thing to collaborate with creators from around the world, so people aren't up in arms about copying when it happens haha.". like really ?? he made this moment that quackity is proud and excited for as well as people are happy for quackity as well and can't wait to see it about himself. like rly I'm supposed to believe that dream has been planning this as much as quackity and even if he wants to,. Honestly I do not believe dreams new international SMP will actually be functional at all. He is the worst server admin ever, he failed to actually implement a working communication system in the SMP that made his career what it is today and he wasn't the reason the dsmp was that popular anyway. He's too cocky and unwilling to accept critisism.

He doesn't even give a shit about the servers he owns. He probably just is grasping at straws to keep his audience excited and focused on him.

Even at the Hispanic event they went to none of the dreamteam actually even tried to learn any Spanish etc. I can not see him do anything multilingual at all.

I genuinely believe he just said that to one up quackity. I've seen transcripts of a recent stream where he seems to imply that quackity doesn't take streaming seriously etc and that "if he could choose who wins best minecraft streamers it'd be foolish bc he treats it as a job". That alone shows me he does not actually respect any of the work quackity does bc he puts an insane amount of work into his lore and streams.

one time in 7th grade one of the other kids asked me to make him brass knuckles. Im not really sure why? i was a pretty handy kid but like, more woodworking? I don't know, maybe he was just being silly or somethin? Anyways, I told him "What, I don't know how to do that shit?" I told him that if he didn't i would have to kill him. He then spoke out of turn again to call me a "fucking bitch". The discipline report had sections teachers could check off for like, what type of infraction it was, and sh'd checked "disrespect". Like, how powertripping do you have to be to threaten to kill an 11yr old and then tell ur boss and assume u won't get in trouble? Anyway i was so glad she got fired because she was the absolute worse. when i had fucked up my leg she wouldn't let me leave class to go to the bathroom or anything unless i left my crutch, because she did't think i needed it. But it did make things awkward for a few years because her husband was in a band with my guitar teacher/mentor/father figure, and my mom cut the teachers hair. I don't know, i just had to see them around a lot and they always like, blamed me for her getting fired. It rly sucked. I think so much of my childhood was being the scapegoat/enemy to certain adults for reasons that were beyond my comprehension. I think largely because i was 6ft tall at 11 years old, i worked, and generally was precocious, so I was adultified a lot. or maybe adults are generally terrible to kids. - they increase their workload times ten. they polish their weapons nightly. their workout sessions nearly triple in time. nothing in their dynamic changes, but it is certainly amplified.

- if there really is no sign of finding the twins in sight, the oldest will lay down their weapons with a clash and their paperwork with a thud - and look for those two by themself.

- if they arrive at roughly the same time, the unknown god would definitely be there to greet them. i don’t see them losing their abilities, but perhaps bypassing her test and flying down to earth. more of an escape than a win.

Like it was a sincere statement from tae and even us vminies wont take it as a love confession or anything. I do mostly agree, and I’ve also seen this new very aggressive wave coming at vminnies from other shippers in the last two days, though admittedly that wave has been steadily building for quite a while now. I’ll never understand that mentality, since ship w*rs are one of the most pointless things you can engage in since, like you pointed out anon, even if one shipper camp “wins” against another, that won’t change reality and their ship won’t magically become real or more valid or anything like that. As ARMY we should appreciate every bond within BTS, regardless if it’s a bond we think has potential of being romantic or is “merely” platonic. All their bonds are wonderful after all.

But, what Admin 2 and I find even more alarming in all of this is the literal tsunami of hate and toxicity that’s been happening against Tae since Let’s BTS. It’s happening on all sns platforms and it’s just truly vile and crosses all the lines and then some. When you check the profiles to which those posts belong, it’s quite easy to tell that they are either solos or “believers” of other ships who very much did not enjoy Tae’s words, or Jimin’s to Tae.

What can we do? Well, we can’t police how people will behave on sns, can’t police and watch every Vminnie and somehow get them to “behave”, that’s simply not realistic. The bigger a “fandom” grows, the harder it becomes to control it and make sure everyone stays rational and doesn’t get swept up in petty fights and other stupid things. The bigger the “fandom”, the more likely it is that you’ll find a few bad apples even if the bigger part of it all is rational and chill. The only thing we can do, realistically, is pay attention to our own mindset, to not allow ourselves to drift off into delulu land in such a manner that we, too, turn into “believers” preaching conspiracy theories and spinning crazy speculations. If we want to be delulu, we should always remember to put our hats on (just in case), make that clear to the people reading our posts/tweets, and remember that none of us, regardless of whichever ship we like, will ever know if any of our thoughts are true unless the members themselves tell us.

As long as we remain rational, stick to facts and quotes that we have sources and actual, factual “evidence” for, instead of just making things up to fit our narrative, we should be okay. Besides, even just taking Tae’s words to Jimin about how he likes him the most at face value is overwhelmingly sweet, genuine and impossibly sincere, and shows how beautiful their bond is.

The only true advice I have is this: don’t give in to any ship w*rs. If other shippers come into your space and try to mess with you, ignore them. The block button is truly your best friend, or if too many come at you, go private and wait it out. Don’t try to argue or reason with them because regardless of what you’ll say, and how solid your “proof” is, they won’t care. They just want you to react, want your attention. They want to feel powerful by seeing you bow down to them, by getting you to eventually give up. Or, which I’ve also seen, they’ll take your observations about vmin and make them their own, claim their ship does that, too, or that they’re the only ones with which that’s true. Even if it isn’t. And if you see something that crosses the line into pure hate, or purposeful(ly) misleading/misrepresentation of things in a way that is really harmful, report it. 

Eventually, if you don’t give them attention, they’ll give up because it’ll stop being entertaining.

what is saddest for me is how those people who claim to be fans do not accept tae’s sincere words and decide twist it to fits their narrative. for how many years tae and jm have been talking about how they like each other. - au based on this post where some archaeologist finds a bunch of dannys [french person voice] Love Lettairs 2 rusty and so obviously the logical course of action is to rob the museum (which happens to be the museum that tess is curating. funny how things work out) without telling his team What Theyre Stealing. they successfully pull off the heist but turns out the letters were not among the items they stole!! danny is getting desperate. as a last-ditch attempt he calls tess and asks her to let them rob the museum. shes like Why The Fuck Would I Do That. he explains and she begrudgingly agrees. danny and livingston go break into the museum Again but rusty tails them bc dannys been acting Weird and he finds out abt the letters bc livingston sweats more whenever he tells a lie. they live happily ever after (literally, theyre immortal) the end. also even though dannys a werewolf the 11 all call him the new jersey devil (its not his fault that legend came to be ok!! he was very drunk!!)
