Omg the ghost town sounds like something jexyll described as how dormancy presents in his Sidesystem,, like, and he knows cause he is like the inducer and controller of Dormancy in his group- he's like the Gatekeeper out of all 16 members in his group, most are mostly dormant cause yay they're very dangerous :D
There's the trauma Holder Sidesystem,, we literally know nothing about them and we aren't allowed to check either cause they're so severe,, but I do know one of their members who went by the name 'Hexagon' talked with luna about smth a while ago....🤔.... I wonder what they chatted about considering ✨severely dangerous✨
Our innerworld is like... I can't access shit most of the time because frontsealed, but I have this cool technical ability i call a soul link that attach me to specific alters and I can see their innerworld or the area they're currently in (the soul bond is much more than just that), which present like a daydream to me (I'm very Dissociated at those moments).
But I do know about most areas from most places and most innerworld of each Sidesystem,, cause like I'm a cardinal vein here along with 2 others
There's the front room who looks like a theater,, then the area between Front and the innerworld where there's doors where each main system alter's room get connected to with a door,, then there's a Gatekeeper you need to pass,, then another one,, then there's a gatebridger to help you go back to your Sidesystem if you aren't from the main group,, then I think there's the higher-ups room where luna mostly stays.
Oh I've been in kasen's Dormancy laboratory once as well to meet my father when he still responded

That's fascinating! /gen
Your system definitely functions a little differently from ours, but that's one of the biggest reasons I find plurality so interesting to study.
For us, dormancy isn't something we can really control. It happens more gradually and on its own, kind of like a once-active Tumblr blog might eventually kinda fizzle out then become inactive altogether. But every now and again if something relative enough pops up you might get... one or two new posts before it goes quiet again, ya know?
We also don't really have side-systems, as far as I'm aware, though I know a couple systems who very much do. I think the closest thing, technically, that we have to that is Four, who is a system within the system. But he's very much not separated from the rest of us in any way. In fact he's actually one of the most integrative alters in terms of inner-workings for the system.
Although we do have something kind of similar- we go through... sort of like phases of alters, if that makes sense. Currently, we're a little scattered, but just before that the most active alters were predominantly TMNT fictives. And before that the most active alters were mostly Linked Universe fictives. I'm not really certain about before that because I didn't discover the system until the transition between those two groups of fictives. It's just interesting to me because 5 years ago, I didn't even know rottmnt existed, so it would stand to reason that previous to Linked Universe we likely had groups of alters consisting of fictives from our most influential comfort-hyperfixations, one after another.
Exploring the inner world is also very strange for us. Maybe I'll need to ask for a more thorough definition of what being front-sealed means to you? I haven't seen it (I don't think) listed anywhere with common system terms, and I kind of just assumed it was like what we describe as being forever front-stuck for me.
What I do for the inner world is something I call "Inner World Projection" (or just "Projection"). I actually discovered it by accident. (It's kind of a fun story, actually! But given my habit of long writings (especially when put on the computer instead of my phone), I'll omit it this time XD)
Essentially, I can project a semi-corporeal version of myself to the inner world when I'm focused inward or in a meditative state. The more aligned I am with the concept of a body in the inner world, the more solidly I can interact with it. It's... surprisingly difficult to do.
At first I could only explore the Control Room (which is what we call the room that represents co-consciousness and the connection to Front), then the Forest. Shortly before I discovered the existence of the Ghost Town, I learned, actually... that my system as a whole, and especially the higher ups, don't really trust me very deeply, which is why I physically could not go beyond the Control Room or the Forest.
But! After learning that, Warriors, who sort of acts as the spokesperson between the higher ups and... the rest of us, decided he wanted to trust me and would advocate for me on my behalf, and shortly after I got access to the backyard!! Which was amazing! I got to see the pool, the lawn chairs, the deck, the playground, the yard... I even got to sit down with Amity and Luz as they were having lunch! I hadn't talked to either of them in so long!
Fun things 😄

although I can see Sage being cute with Orbot and Cubot seeing them as her brothers like she expressed interest in Frontiers, I also like how she was the tattletale in the prequel comic like this while she was just a disembodied voice
Tumblr media
even after she establishes a more familial bond of them being her brothers, I can see her still being like this. she doesn't want her father to finally have enough and scrap them but can't refrain from telling him everything
she likes how it's one of the rare few circumstances he'll actually praise her directly to her face. she craves and always enjoys every tiny bit he finally gives when she does something good for him so of course she won't pass it up
despite how much she may love Orbot and Cubot, between them and her father, she'll always choose him and tell the truth, willingly getting them into trouble for telling on them if it makes him happy. she's a real daddy's girl
while Sage loves them she'll still do this, meanwhile Eggman doesn't love them at all and it's a lot crueller coming from him and more concerning as he very well may dispose of them! and Sage is concerned about this too but can't help it
she still can't refrain from telling on them. she enjoys the praise she gets from her father when he says she is an example of how all his other creations should perform too, if they know what's good for them. she basks in it
Eggman sneers, smirks, and looks down on Orbot and Cubot for how pathetic and useless they seem by the day, since she came along and did everything much better. he's sure to rub it in, especially when she tells on them for slacking/failing
and Sage actually sometimes can't help but mimick him, looking over her shoulder at them and smirking proudly like her father does when she makes him happy by doing it. a little surprising like father like daughter moment
again, as much as he may love them, even she can't help being a lil competitive and taking pride in being the golden child occasionally. not hestiating on doing things that may get them in danger as long as her father is happy XD
keep seeing people under the impression that Sage is nice and innocent but if she sticks with her father when he laughs at Sonic's cyber corruption death after she's gotten closer to him, she can definitely pull shit like this too
she's Eggman's daughter and I wanna see more people acting like it with ways that he can be a very bad influence and how having a favourite golden child only makes things so much worse. this is no picture perfect nuclear family unit!

001: Sebinis!
Always. <3
-
001 | send me a ship and I will tell you:
when I started shipping it if I did: March 2023, while still on my first playthrough. My partners and I were joking about who would top, Ominis or Sebastian, and decided to see what AO3 had to say about it. The rest is history. :D
my thoughts: AAAAAAAAAAAAA. I mean. I met so many wonderful friends because of them. This ship will be in my heart forever. They have an incredible setup, the sweet boy trying to leave his dark family behind, and the orphan who tumbles into the dark with good intentions. They're gold standard shipping material.
What makes me happy about them: THEY'RE CUTE AS SHIT. The way Sebastian teases him, they way they so obviously care about each other to the point that Ominis is the only one whose opinion Sebastian actually respects. They've been best friends since childhood and that makes the break of their bond that much more traumatic. DELICIOUS.
What makes me sad about them: The catacombs. :( Sebastian's general assholery and how deeply it wounds Ominis. No matter what happens post-canon, their relationship is permanently damaged. Sebastian is just too self-absorbed in the end, and that's what makes a good ship, but damn it hurts.
things done in fanfic that annoys me: Happy to share in DMs, but I'll refrain from answering here; I don't want to anyone to stop writing what they love.
things I look for in fanfic: I love the trope that their relationship starts developing before canon, because that makes it angstier when they fall apart. I also love them coming together at some point after canon, when they've drifted apart, and they have to sort of rebuild from scratch. Drarry vibes. But generally canon compliant... and little to no MC involvement, haha.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: My HC of Garreth would be perfect for Ominis, a far better partner than Sebastian, let's be honest. XD And, uh... Marvolo, I suppose, but I don't think that's a very healthy match. ;) SEBASTIAN DOESN'T DESERVE ANYONE.
My happily ever after for them: They recover after canon events, build a relationship together, get married, and Ominis takes Sebastian's name which is why he doesn't show up in the Gaunt family tree. :) :) :)
who is the big spoon/little spoon: I think they switch up, Ominis is canonically a bit taller I think? (Or is that fanon? I actually wrote him shorter so who knows.) But I do HC him as more of a bottom and thus a lil' spoon.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: MISCHIEF. Hijinks with Anne. At least, before everything went to shit. Pranks and silliness and practicing spells in the Undercroft, exploring the areas of Feldcroft. Probably reading together too, Sebastian's a giant bookworm and you can see parts of the game where they're just sitting together reading, it's adorable.

On Writing Fanfic Comments
So we all know how fanfic writers love comments - ngl comments are fuel for writers the way sunshine is for flowers! Just seeing a little notification from my fanfic email inbox that someone commented brings me so much joy. Still, commenting is a tricky thing and sometimes it's hard to put how much you enjoyed a fic into words especially if your emotional bandwidth is low.
Alas, with no further ado here are some simple commenting routes you can go with if you're stumped as I so often am with commenting.
Method 1: Bonus Kudos
Are you shy but still want to go the extra mile to express your love for a story? Then this short and sweet method might be for you. Just say "second kudos" or "bonus kudos". I also love it when people leave three consecutive heart emojis as a comment and I affectionately call those bonus kudos.
I've also seen some crafty commenters make a jpeg that looks like the regular kudos button but reads "second kudos" - so if you've got some picture editing and HTML skills that's also a super cute option.
Method 2: Be Straightforward
If you want to keep things simple, go for it. Even one concise positive sentence can do a lot, e.g. something down the lines of "I really enjoyed this! Thank you for writing!"
Method 3: Slightly Feral Energy
Want to express how the fic has grabbed your mind, body and spirit in sense that the brainrot has taken over in the best way possible? Consider typing out something like "AHHHHHH I never knew you much I needed something like this. Your story is really itching a corner of my brain!!! I will be chewing on this for days!!"
Method 4: My usual comment formula
I kind of structure a lot of my comments the same way to get over the anxiety over being perceived XD
It's usually something with the following structure:
"This was SO GOOD!
(Optional: The [insert sth you thought was well done] was really cool/tugged at my heartstrings/was everything/hurt me in the best way.)
Great fic<3 <3 <3"
Anyways, those are just some of my go-to's. There are plenty of more ways to write fanfic comments. Just please refrain from asking for updates or sequels because that makes many writers anxious.

Here is the long-awaited update that I will kick myself for delaying in exchange for obsessively crying over Good Omens Season 2. Let the montage of Awa'atlu life commence! Again, thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy!
Note: The title is named after the Phil Collins song "Strangers Like Me" because Tarzan and Avatar just go together XD
Tumblr media
To avoid having Ronal hunt her down again, Kayla got up earlier the next morning and made her way back to the village to join her brother's family for breakfast before her lessons. Kiri was definitely doing better and Tuk was excited that her aunt had decided to see them off before their busy days. After pleasant conversations and the promise to meet before their midday meal, the kids took off to pursue whatever they planned for the day. Kayla stood up with the intention of going to find either the tsahik or the olo'eyktanand so Jake walked her out of the marui as they talked.
"So Neteyam mentioned that you guys talked about what happened between Lo'ak and Ao'nung," Jake started off.
'Oh, boy, here we go,' Kayla thought as she tilted her head to glance back at him, feigning partial innocence, "Yes? What about it?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to let you know that it's already been handled, and it sounds like the boys are actually getting along now. Neteyam also mentioned that you didn't get to meet Ao'nung yesterday so I wanted to make sure you knew this before you went looking for a fight with the kid."
"Jake, how young do you think I am?" When his face twisted with hesitance, she rolled her eyes, "Don't answer that. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not a child, I'm older than I look, and believe it or not, I do realize this. You don't have to worry about me... but you could've been a little nicer to Lo'ak."
Jake refrained from also rolling his eyes, knowing his sister would say this. He wasn't blind. He was well aware that Kayla would always be quick to defend his youngest son, no matter what he did. Jake was half-convinced that Lo'ak could get away with murder as far as his aunt was concerned, "He knew he wasn't allowed to go beyond the reef but he went anyway. He was at fault as much as Ao'nung."
"I get that, but it feels as though Lo'ak received more punishment than the boys who actually put him in danger, and for what?"
"For picking fights."
"No, for defending his sister," her eyes narrowed, "Not that you would know what that means."
Jake took the verbal lashing in stride, internally sighing, "I can't punish the chief's son for what he does against my kids, Kayla."
At first, Kayla had every intention of cursing her brother out, but instead paused and tried rephrasing her response. Her eyes drifted to the reef while she recalled far-off memories, "I remember Mom and Dad were allowed to punish the neighbor kids if they misbehaved with us and no one would bat an eye."
The mention of his old life irked him, and he wasn't afraid to show that in his deep snarl, "Well, Mom and Dad aren't here and we're not on Earth," her posture visibly stiffens but doesn't interrupt. Jake's wave of anger is immediately replaced with guilt, so he opts in taking a breath before he could say anything else he might come to regret, "Things are different here. So be civil and keep the peace. Don't go picking fights with teenagers."
"I won't," she mutters darkly, the coldness in her eyes returning as she side-eyes him, reminding Jake that he still wasn't out of the storm regarding her, "That's what you're here for."
She doesn't stay long enough to hear whatever rebuttal he might have in mind. Instead, she walks down the pathways leading further into the village before calling back, "I'll see you later."
Tail lowered in distress and possibly shame, Jake could only turn back to the marui and try to go about his day as he normally would. He knew he deserved the petty insults and his sister's aggression toward him, especially after all the radio silence she had endured for months while he was here experiencing a new way of life, on top of everything else. He just wished Kayla could manage to let go of all the pain and anger like he did when he first began to learn the ways of the Omatikaya. Physically, Kayla's avatar hasn't changed apart from the new Na'vi trinkets she had added to her standard-issued cargo shorts and crop top. However, Jake had hoped her mentality toward him would change the more she learned how to be Na'vi.
He knew he was a fool to get his hopes up so soon.
Walking through the village, Kayla went down the same route Ronal had brought her yesterday, hoping she would catch sight of the tsahik. Again, there were some stares from the Metkayina, but they didn't last as long as the day before and the reef people didn't look as bothered by her appearance. The Na'vi go about their day without much acknowledgment to Kayla, and before she knew it, she had made it to her destination, the craft huts she had met Tsireya just the other day.
It wasn't hard to find Ronal among the crowd of mottled skin patterns. Her accessories, tattoos, and rounded stomach are a dead giveaway, and the tsahik easily found Kayla in the crowd in turn, though it wasn't as hard, given the circumstances. Ronal's eyes visibly squint when her gaze lands on Kayla, then the Na'vi woman pulls away from her task to rise and meet the avatar. Another Na'vi stands to join her, a teenage boy and Kayla had an inkling who it was.
When Ronal approached Kayla, she motioned to the boy behind her, "My son, Ao'nung."
Smiling timidly, Kayla greets Ao'nung as respectfully as possible, though even she could admit her smile was tighter than usual. Ao'nung didn't say a word back, instead deciding to simply nod and avoid eye contact. His ears drooped and his head lowered like this was torture for him. Clearly, he was being coerced into being here with Kayla, but she decided not to fault him for it. Perhaps he's already being punished enough for his wrongdoings that he didn't need Kayla to torture him further about it.
Ronal doesn't appear to notice nor care for Ao'nung's discomfort and sternly stated to Kayla, "We will be teaching you how to communicate underwater. Do not fall behind or you will be left behind."
Kayla refrains from the small smile that threatened to escape her. Ronal's words vaguely reminded her of Neytiri's way of teaching Jake both from the stories she heard and the video log Jake had recorded. As Jake had once phrased it, 'Learn fast or die.'
With that in mind, Kayla doesn't complain and silently follows Ronal and Ao'nung away from the craft huts and further down the pathways. It didn't take long before they brought their guest to a large marui. It wasn't as big as the communal pod for the feasts, but it was significantly taller and wider than the normal ones Kayla has seen, including the Sullys' marui. She took note of the different colors of weaving and decorations adorning the home, such as the totem and skimwing skull hanging over the front entrance in greeting, a small windchime of shells softly dancing in the warm breeze. If Kayla had to guess, this was the olo'eyktan and tsahik's pod. Soon after stepping inside, both Ronal and Ao'nung lower to the ground, sitting back on their legs and Kayla does the same, proceeding to listen as Ronal starts off the lesson.
Nothing eventful happened as Kayla learned the Metkayina equivalent of sign language. Ao'nung never said a word regarding Lo'ak or any incident that happened with Kayla's nieces and nephews prior to her arrival. In fact, Ao'nung didn't say a whole lot other than chiming in a time or two to help Kayla with the lesson. Perhaps he never said a word outside of the subject of his people's sign language because his mother had been giving him sharp looks throughout the whole lesson. It was hard to miss. Ronal wasn't exactly a subtle creature. She openly expressed whatever she was feeling, unafraid of hurting someone's feelings, not even her son's, it would seem.
It was amusing to find all the similarities between the mother and son, both physically and spiritually. Their glare, eyes, and even their pout were the same. Kayla even dared herself to look a little closer without getting caught and noticed that Ao'nung inherited the same mole as his mother's, both spots found above their lip, on the top right side.
She must have lost track in time as the suns rose higher in the sky. Before she knew it, her next teacher had shown up to take her to her next destination. Tonowari stepped up into the marui, his large frame blocking the majority of the light coming in through the entryway. His gaze brushes over Kayla and Ao'nung before his eyes land on the tsahik, "Ma Ronal. Is this a good time?"
One of Kayla's ear flick to the side at the term of endearment, glancing over to the woman in question who only firmly nods and stares back at Kayla, "Go on. My mate will continue your riding lessons from yesterday."
Kayla mutters her thanks and stands up to join Tonowari. As they turn toward the exit, the olo'eyktan points back to his son, "Ao'nung. Remain with your mother."
"But, Father--"
"Do not question me, boy," the tone in Tonowari's voice was a little louder and stronger than normal, and even Kayla could feel her spine straightening up, despite not being under his scrutiny. Kayla briefly glances back at Ao'nung and notes the way he shrinks in on himself, still unable to look her in the eye, clearly embarrassed. Kayla looks away and follows Tonowari out of the marui, shadowing his footsteps as he addresses her, "I apologize for my son."
For the moment, Kayla had the empathy to pity the teenager and decided to soften the blow against Ao'nung, "There's nothing to apologize for. He was a pleasant enough teacher."
His voice had reverted back to its normal tone, significantly smoother and kinder on the ears, "Did you learn well?"
"I think so. It's not that different compared to what the Sky People have," when he flashed a questioning glance over his shoulder at her, she further explained, "They have a language that requires hand motions, too."
He doesn't question it further, instead looking back ahead and leading Kayla down to the docks. The ilu anxiously await their arrival in the water below, clicking and calling excitedly as Tonowari pulls a harness over one of their heads. The two adults get into the water and stand beside the earnest ilu, Tonowari trying to calm the creature whilst Kayla makes tsaheylu. She mounts the creature with ease, remembering yesterday's lesson and dreading the idea of falling off again as Tonowari begins reassuring her, "You need to exude confidence. Tell the ilu that you will command them and you will be respected by them. Do not give them space to come up with their own ideas."
She takes a few deep breaths to calm her nerves and nodded, waiting until Tonowari steps away before commanding the ilu to move forward using only the bond connecting them to each other's thoughts. The creature obliges and all appears to be going smoothly. Kayla manages to instruct the ilu to swim faster before eventually sinking underneath the water's surface. The ilu picks up speed and even as she clings on for dear life, Kayla could already feel her grip loosening. Angry and determined, Kayla tightens her thighs around the saddle of the creature and demands her bonded steed to leap out of the water and let her breathe, no room for nonsense.
To her shock and delight, the ilu chirped happily and sprung out of the water like a bullet, briefly flying through the air and allowing Kayla to take a breath before diving back in. She was so shocked that she almost lost her grip before regaining composure and asking the ilu to do it again, in case she had only imagined her success. The ilu was ecstatic to leap out of the water again and did so without a fuss, and this time, Kayla laughed as the shock wore off.
On the surface, the woman is met with a small audience. Lo'ak, Neteyam, and Tsireya were out riding their own respective ilu that afternoon before briefly pausing to watch a school of fish swim all around them, tickling their feet. Just as Kayla appeared to finally be getting the hang of riding an ilu, the teenagers caught notice of her as well. Lo'ak is the first to spot her, cupping his hands over his mouth as he crows in encouragement, "Go, Auntie! Woo-hoo! Yeah! You got it!"
Kayla laughs as Neteyam and Tesireya begin to cheer her on as well, their voices carried by the winds as Kayla and her ilu dive into the water and back out again. By the time Kayla remembered herself and returned to her teacher, Tonowari had his arms crossed but otherwise appeared pleased by her improvement, tail leisurely swaying behind him with curiosity.
~~~~~~~~~
Weeks go by since Kayla first arrived in Awa'atlu, and despite having to adapt to yet another completely different culture, Kayla had to admit that it was getting easier as time went on. She originally thought the ways of the Metkayina were a cakewalk compared to the Omatikaya, but maybe it was because she learned from the Forest People first that made learning from the Reef People easier than she originally thought it would.
She makes sure to reiterate this to Norm and the other humans every time she sees them. When everyone in Awa'atlu is meant to be resting, Kayla retreats to her campsite and secures her avatar form before closing her eyes and breaking the neural link. The next time she opens her eyes, it's within the link gurney back at High Camp.  Norm and Max are always there to greet her, asking about her headaches and other health problems. There were days even Kayla had to admit were rough. After spending so much time in her avatar form, it's starting to strain the link connecting herself to her human form and it causes massive headaches every time she breaks a new record of not reporting back for days on end. To distract her friends from lecturing her, Kayla just updates everyone on Kiri's condition and relays any messages Jake or the rest of the Sully family wanted her to bring. In return, the scientists or even the Na'vi, such as Txe'la and Meui, would update her on any information regarding Ardmore or any Sky People activity.
She's always left disappointed when they say the same thing. No one has seen Spider.
Trying not to let the news discourage her, Kayla always wakes back up in her avatar form in better spirits so as not to worry Jake and his family. Kayla continues to treat the days as normal, continuing her lessons and helping out in any way she can so as not to overstay her welcome. When she wasn't following Tonowari or Ronal around, Kayla was usually in the company of her nieces, nephews, and their new friends.
Tsireya was one of those friends, and she was such a sweet girl who would happily entertain Kayla in any endeavor. When she wasn't busy, one of Kayla's favorite pastimes was helping Tuk and Tsireya find seashells for their hair and any jewelry idea they had in mind. Tsireya, as Tuk said, knew all the best spots where the shells were always fully intact and not crushed into pieces by the harsh tides. During these little adventures, Kayla, Tuk, and Tsireya would learn more about each other, bonding over the fact that they were all their families' younger sisters.
The sign language was easier than the verbal language, but Kayla felt as though she had a rug pulled from beneath her feet when Ronal knowingly stated that she was going to be teaching her student a third language. The tsahik, with the help of other Metkayina, began to teach Kayla the language of the tulkun, the sea creature Kayla learned to be the spiritual animal and companion to the Reef People, as the ikran is to Forest People. Apparently, not even Kayla's nieces and nephews have progressed as far as learning the tulkun language yet, and they became ecstatic to realize that they would be learning this alongside their aunt. Joining Ronal in these lessons with Kayla and the Sully kids would also be Tsireya and Rotxo, which only excited the forest kids more. Ronal wasn't as pleased with her own student when she caught Kayla fondly watching the children interact more than once.
Kayla had to learn this extra language on top of her breathing lessons, the latter of which was taught by both Tonowari and Ronal. Sometimes they would teach her separately, and other times they would do so together, but whatever the case may be, it didn't matter to Kayla. She would carefully listen to whoever was teaching her, and sometimes she listened so intently that she caught herself observing her teachers a little too closely.
Like Tonowari's eyes for example. Kayla noted they were a light blue at first as she sat cross-legged across from him while they practiced breathing exercises. But upon closer inspection, Kayla noticed specks of green engulfed by those blue orbs, like clumps of islands surrounded by warm sparkling oceans.
He was a clenched fist with a gentle touch. Kayla greatly admired him for being someone who could easily take advantage of his strength and position above his people but chooses to be kind and soft-spoken instead.
 It was fascinating for Kayla to see just how different the Metkayinas' eyes were compared to the Omatikayas'. Whereas every Na'vi of the Forest had orange or yellow cat-like eyes, the ones who live off of the reef had rounder and bigger eyes, not to mention they had a variety of different shapes, sizes, and colors.
Like Ronal's eyes. The opposite of her mate's, Kayla noted that Ronal's eyes were more green than blue, with specks of a warm, gold color, like a sunset reflecting off the ocean surface.
She was orphic, but that's as far as Kayla allowed herself to describe the tsahik.
There was plenty to say about Ronal, but Kayla thought it best not to linger on any of the words bouncing around in her head. It was clear to her that the tsahik will always disapprove of Kayla and her presence among the Metkayina, so Kayla didn't want to compliment the Na'vi woman too much, especially since she doesn't intend on staying for very long.
Her stay was still very much temporary, at least in Kayla's eyes, as she still intends on going back to the forest to find Spider. For now, however, she was content with her small campsite just inside the treeline of the Metkayina island, a campsite that Ronal appears to disapprove of along with everything else about Kayla. The tsahik still has to occasionally venture out and find Kayla among the trees if she is in need of the avatar woman, like today when Ronal had the mind to take the time to find Kayla. It wasn't hard since the demon had kept her promise and never moved her campsite so she would be right where Ronal could find her. Still, Kayla was apologetic when Ronal found her and the tsahik begrudgingly told the foreigner to follow her back to the village.
Ronal brings her to the shoreline and recruits her to help fix an ilu pen that had begun to wither with age. Tonowari was already hard at work on it and briefly looked up to greet the two women when they sat down on the edge of the pathway and gracefully slipped into the water with him. After a brief instruction from him, Kayla gets to work in silence, and Ronal isn't opposed to doing the same. The silence wasn't as awkward as they were in the past, but out of the corner of her eye, Kayla could clearly see that something was bothering the tsahik, as Ronal wasn't ashamed of openly frowning while watching Kayla work. She didn't appear to be glaring in disapproval, but she looked... frustrated. It was as if she was trying to figure out a complicated puzzle. Kayla briefly glanced at the Na'vi positioned on the other side of her and noticed that Tonowari was much more subtle than his mate. Unlike Ronal, he only snuck glances at Kayla and her work here and there and did his best to hide whatever expression was on his face.
"Am I doing it wrong?"
"No. You're doing well," a compliment was not what she was expecting and it shows as Kayla's ears perk up and her eyes briefly widen. Ronal pointedly ignores the reaction and blatantly asks, "Why do you not stay with your brother's family at night?"
Kayla looked at Ronal, nose scrunched slightly in confusion, all the while completely unaware of the stare Tonowari sent to his mate from above Kayla's head, "Why would I?"
"Group sleep is also customary in the Metkayina."
"What's a group sleep?"
By Eywa, did the Omatikaya teach this alien woman anything? Ronal huffs out an irritated sigh, "Families sleep in large groups, usually in their swaynivi. Some clan members will sleep alone or with their mate just as long as they return to their family's nivi in a short period of time. Otherwise, they're deemed spiritually unhealthy. It is unsafe for one to sleep alone."
"I see," Kayla's ears pin back and her posture straightens, understanding the question now while pointedly staring down at her work on weaving the ilu pen together instead of addressing Ronal, "Well, where I'm from, that's called an invasion of privacy. I would assume that the families who sleep in large groups mostly contain parents and their children, correct?"
She doesn't wait for a response as she further explains with a small distaste in her mouth, "Since I'm neither of those, I don't want to invade my brother's and his children's privacy. Thank you for your concern, but I've been alone for a very long time. I can assure you that I am just fine with the sleeping arrangements I have now."
Even Ronal can sense a dismissal when she hears it in Kayla's voice. It was clear that the alien woman didn't want to further discuss this topic and so the tsahik didn't push it. Returning to her work, Ronal now briefly shared a glance with Tonowari but he pointedly kept his mouth closed during the whole conversation and after.
Luckily, the silence is saved by Neteyam as the teenager arrives with a purpose, slightly bouncing over the pathways above the adults' heads, "Auntie. My father is looking for you."
Kayla's discomfort visibly melts before Tonowari and Ronal's eyes. She looks up and smiles at the Na'vi boy, "Tell your father he can come and get me himself next time instead of sending you out. You should be elsewhere, enjoying the reefs and hunting with your friends."
She briefly turned back to the clan leaders, silently asking for approval to leave with her eyes flicking between the two Metkayina. Both nodded and openly watch as Kayla turns back to Neteyam, smiling up at her nephew as she rises up onto the pathway and follows him out, gently shoving him once to get him to pick up the pace so she didn't trip on his heels.
Neteyam huffed a small laugh as they walked, but the sound falls in replace of shame. He was visibly acting a little shy as he avoided eye contact, "I am sorry that I told my father about our conversation. I should have asked for your permission."
"Hey, no harm," she nudged him, "It's not like our talks are meant to be a secret or anything. It's nice that you can trust your father with everything; trust him enough to talk about whatever you want. As long as you're comfortable, kiddo."
"Was your father not like that?"
Kayla bit her tongue to refrain from visibly wincing, staring directly ahead instead of at her nephew, "No. I don't think he was. Not from what I can remember. Mostly I relied on Tommy and your dad growing up."
"What was my father like as an older brother? Am I like him?"
Kayla briefly grew quiet as they walked, pondering about how she could best word this to her oldest nephew. She tried seeing Jake in Neteyam, she really did, but whenever she tried comparing the teenager's best traits, they only remind her of Neytiri. And when Kayla thinks about Jake, all the pain and other torture he had put her through both intentionally and by accident, she couldn't even fathom Neteyam doing the same thing to his own siblings. Physically and mentally, deep down she knew that Neteyam was nothing like his father, and she was secretly grateful for that.
So instead of agreeing, Kayla simply smiled while staring the teenager in the eyes so he could see her sincerity, "No, 'Teyam. You're like Tommy. He was the older brother. When it comes to how you treat your siblings, you remind me of him, and I think your father sees it, too."
~~~~~~~~~
When Ronal isn't busy with her duties as tsahik or teaching Kayla, she is making sure Neytiri also adapts to their way of life. Although the former tsakarem had been comfortably accustomed to island life by the time her sister-in-law joined her family, Ronal still takes Neytiri into the jungle for a second pair of hands to gather the needed plants and herbs for her stock. Today was no different as the two women stumbled across a large jungle tree, larger than any of the others around them. Instead of following Ronal's suggestion to skip this tree and its healing fruits in exchange for a shorter one, Neytiri stops and shakes her head. Ronal was adamant about moving on since she was in no condition to climb and wasn't built to climb trees even if she wasn't currently pregnant.
Neytiri still shook her head in defiance and simply said, "You need Forest People."
The Forest woman opens her mouth and calls out at the top of her lungs, causing Ronal's ears to twitch in response to her whooping and cawing. Notifying her family about her location, it didn't take long for Jake, Kayla, and all the Sully children to come running to Neytiri's call.
Neytiri proudly smiles at her family while explaining why they had been summoned, "Our tsahik needs the fruit from the top of this tree and the ones surrounding it."
The others take a moment to look at one another before Kayla breaks the silence, briefly tapping Tuk's shoulder before running off, "'Last one to the top is a rotten egg!"
Tuk squeals and immediately chases after her aunt. The older Sully kids smile and break into fits of laughter, following suit and running after Kayla and their little sister. They all leap up, grabbing onto the lower branches before lifting themselves up, climbing expertly higher without their arms protesting the weight of their bodies. Ronal watched them climb higher and higher, keeping her expression stoic while observing the way Kayla makes the collecting and scavenging into a game for her nieces and nephews, challenging them to see who can gather the most fruit. In the corner of her eye, Ronal could still see Neytiri standing beside her, also watching the trees and smiling fondly up at her family. Jake soon stands beside his wife, hands on his hips while watching his sister and his children with a careful eye.
It was then did Ronal address Toruk Makto directly, flashing a face of disapproval, "Does your sister always act so childish?"
Jake's posture stiffens and he struggles to find the right words under the tsahik's watchful eye, "Well-! Uh..."
"No, only with the children," Neytiri answers for him, eyes hardened when they meet Ronal's as if daring her to speak again, "She plays with them because she wants to remind them that they are still just that. Children."
~~~~~~~~~
Kiri woke up bothered about something and everyone could tell. That girl didn't know how to hide her feelings no matter how badly she wanted to, the definition of an open book. Even though no one knew why she was upset, they could clearly tell that whatever it was, it had something to do with her aunt. Kiri wasn't necessarily cold to Kayla, but the teenager would go quiet and only speak in one-word responses whenever the older woman spoke directly to her.
Kayla decided that she needed to fix whatever was going on between herself and her oldest niece, so she offered to take the children out as the afternoon slipped into the evening. Neytiri suggested bringing them swimming through the reefs to collect barnacles and other underwater plants for tonight's supper, a passing time a lot of the villagers tend to do. Kayla takes up the idea and presents it to the Sully kids, who all agree to go, some more enthusiastic than others.
Tuk immediately splashes into the water and her brothers chase after her. Meanwhile, Kayla and Kiri linger on the beach, watching them disappear into the ocean. Kayla had tried breaking the tension with a small smile, "So when are you gonna show me how to use those underwater fairy wings?"
She was hoping for a small laugh or even a smile, but Kiri does neither. Instead, she looks sad and distracted, looking out over the horizon where the sky meets the sea, daydreaming of other lands... of home. Kayla bravely touches the girl's shoulder, and when Kiri looks up, her aunt could see the concern plain on her face. The avatar woman squeezes Kiri's shoulder, "What is it?"
Kiri bites the inside of her cheek before giving in, letting out a small sigh, "When are you going back to the forest?" She quickly understands how that could easily be misinterpreted and corrects herself, "It's just that-- you promised you'd look for Spider. And yet, you're here and he still hasn't been found yet."
Kayla relaxes both in posture and touch, removing her hand from Kiri's shoulder and instead letting it fall to her side, "I'll likely be gone by the end of the week, but for Norm's peace of mind, I'm going to be running a few tests on you so he and I both know you'll be okay," silence follows and Kayla reaches out once more, letting her hand gently grasp Kiri's arm, "Kiri, look at me."
The teen does so, a little belligerent at first. Upon staring up at her aunt, Kiri could see the determination in her eyes that closely matched Kiri's father's. Kayla tilts her head down to try and stand more at Kiri's height before softly explaining, "I haven't given up. And you might find it pointless to keep an eye on you after what happened, but I don't, and I don't think Spider would either. Think about it, kiddo. Spider would want us to make sure you're alright before we ever went looking for him."
Kiri ducks her head and watches her toe make shapes in the sand beneath her feet, "I know... but that doesn't mean I have to like it. He deserves to be put first for once."
Silence lingers between the two of them before Kayla simply says, "You're right."
Kiri doesn't wanna look up to see whatever expression was on her aunt's face. Instead, Kiri takes her arm and drags her to the water, "Come."
"'Where we going?"
"You said you wanted to learn how to use a txampaysye."
Kayla's nose scrunched up, testing the word on her tongue with bitterness, "How do you even spell that??"
Kiri manages to loosen up and laugh before they both held their breath and sank down into the water, sinking until they joined the rest of the Sully children. They introduce Kayla to txampaysye -gill mantle- and instruct her on how to use it in order to breathe underwater. Kayla wasn't far off. The gill mantles really did look like fairy wings, but other than maybe a few comments or stories, none of the Na'vi children would know what exactly a fairy was. The children and their aunt spend the evening doing as Neytiri suggested, gathering underwater plants and barnacles alongside other Metkayina, most of whom all wore the txampaysye. By the time the communal dinner rolled around, the Sully family was exhausted, but content all the same.
~~~~~~~~~
A peaceful morning where the Sullys invite Kayla over for breakfast goes uneventful until they're rolling up their nivi after a good night's rest. Their peace is interrupted by a horn, followed by whoops and hollers of celebration coming from outside. Confused and on edge, Jake and the kids emerge from the marui, looking around as the Metkayina jump around and dive into the water, making the newcomers curious as to what was going on.
Their answer came in the form of Tsireya, astride an ilu as she waved down her people from the water below their homes, "The tulkun have returned! Everybody! Our Brothers and Sisters have returned!"
Kayla looked up toward the atoll wall protecting the village from less docile nature. Emerging from the tunnels and pathways underneath the wall were rolling waves indicating something large below the water. Spurts of seaspray spring out like geysers from beneath the ocean's surface. It was a large pod of whale-like creatures, massive and slow. Their descent onto the village was graceful and one that brought much joy to the Metkayina as they couldn't get in the water fast enough.
The Sully kids couldn't wait either, jumping from the walkway around their home and into the water below. They scatter, exploring the new creatures one way or another. Tsireya had grabbed Lo'ak when she spotted him and pulled him onto her ilu, swimming away to introduce him to her Spirit Sister. Jake summoned his tsurak and both he and Neytiri take off to observe the sacred animals themselves. Rotxo had come around and pulled Kiri and Tuk away too, leaving Neteyam and Kayla to wander. Ao'nung was not far behind his friend, however, and invited Neteyam to come along with him to find his own Spirit Brother. Earning a small reassurance from his aunt, Neteyam doesn't hesitate to jump in and both teenagers each grab an ilu and take off, making a game of chase with Ao'nung in the lead.
Neteyam kept close to Ao'nung the entire time. The chief's son leads Neteyam through the chaos expertly, the two of them swimming quickly around a particular tulkun. Kiri, Tuk, and Rotxo were hanging onto the bull's fin and gliding peacefully through the water, the tulkun likely the reef boy's Spirit Brother. Neteyam was only able to catch a glimpse of this as they swim by, keeping close to Ao'nung's tail and playfully chasing him.
Jake had been leisurely swimming his skimwing through the maze of tulkun and Metkayina before glancing off to the side and perking up. Reaching back and tapping Neytiri's thigh to grab her attention, he waits until her eyes are on him before pointing out the sight he stumbled across. Following her husband's gaze and finger, Neytiri spots a mother tulkun and her calf, the smaller whale-like creature keeping close, mostly under its mother's fin or belly. Neytiri smiled with delight, her heart melting at the picture.
Kayla had been floating above the surface, watching the vast sight of tulkun from up top the back of an ilu she had successfully summoned. She didn't venture very far until the olo'eyktan sought her out. She noticed his tsurak first, flying above her head before gracefully sinking into the water, folding in its webbed fins. Tonowari brings it back around and swims up to Kayla's side, a determined smile on his lips, "We must put all that you learned to the test. Come meet my Spirit Brother and see how well you can understand and communicate with him."
She nods and dutifully follows him into the water after taking a deep breath. They submerge and take off, weaving through and around the large bodies of tulkun, dodging other ilu and Na'vi while Tonowari keeps his pace slow for Kayla's ilu to catch up. Underwater, Kayla can get a better look at the tulkun, and to her amazement, she realized that most of them were tattooed like their respective Na'vi. Eventually, they come across a large bull and Tonowari slows to a complete stop, disengaging from his tsurak and openly swimming the rest of the way to the heavily tattooed tulkun male. Kayla disengages from her ilu and watches it swim away before swimming in the same direction as the olo'eyktan, keeping a small bit of distance while he approaches the tulkun, greeting it like an old friend with a wide smile before gesturing Kayla to come closer.
When Kayla swims close enough to float near the large eye of the creature, Tonowari motions to the bull and makes rapid hand movements, "This Makayla te Suli tsmuke te Toruk Makto. She is of the Forest People and has come to learn our ways."
"Greetings, Makayla te Suli." The tulkun sings, and Kayla is delighted that she can understand him.
She quickly signs back, just as she had practiced, "I See you, great and mighty tulkun."
"Have you learned much since your arrival?"
"Yes, many things. I have excellent teachers in the olo'eyktan and the tsahik."
"Indeed. You are in good hands with my Brother and his mate. Ro'a speaks highly of her."
Curious, Kayla turns to the olo'eyktan in question, hands slowed by the water as she asks through the Metkayina sign language, "Is Ro'a Ronal's Spirit Sister?"
Tonowari nods while further explaining with his hands, "Yes, and I believe Ro'a has just given birth to her first calf."
"Indeed." The tulkun calls softly, the beautiful sound muffled in Kayla's ears like a song trying to pierce through cotton, "We are very proud and happy for our sister. What of Ronal's child?"
Tonowari beams, "Growing fast. Halfway there."
Kayla faintly smiles as her lungs begin to faintly burn, then quickly makes the appropriate hand motions to signal, "Forgive me. I need air."
She tilts her head upward and kicks her arms and legs to plunge up to the surface. Kayla immediately gasps for air the moment her head broke through the ocean waves, taking deep and calm breaths while looking around at all the joyous reunions going on around her. Laughter and cheers are still clinging to the approaching afternoon air, not a single Metkayina worried about the day's chores as they are too busy reacquainting themselves with their Spirit Brothers and Sisters. Kayla fondly watched these interactions, her heart warm and yet... sad as she watched the Na'vi swim around her without a care in the world. It's not as though she expected anyone to notice her, but it was a brief realization that today she was invisible and an outcast compared to these beautiful tulkun creatures. It was just another reminder that she didn't belong here and she had no Spirit Sister of her own, feeling out of place among an entire lagoon full of tulkun, Na'vi, tsurak, ilu, and other aquatic creatures.
Once she caught her breath, Kayla inhaled deeply and stuck her face back into the water to check out the activity going on beneath her treading feet. Looking around, she managed to catch a glimpse of a familiar Na'vi, a woman, adamantly communicating with her hands toward another tulkun, a female and her calf. Kayla recognized Ronal's ornaments that expressed her importance among the other Metkayina, along with her rounded belly. Without those traits, however, Kayla wouldn't have recognized her because the tsahik was smiling, broadly, unbothered by anything going on around her as she spoke to what had to be her Spirit Sister, Ro'a.
In all the weeks Kayla had been living here, she had never seen Ronal smile, let alone smile like that.

Hiii everyone, I'm back! Here's a December fic I came up with on a whim! JK and Hobi both get sick somehow at a Christmas party and try hiding it from everyone, including each other XD
Holiday mishaps
Sickies: Jungkook and Hoseok
Caretakers: Jungkook and Hoseok
TW: emeto
Jungkook wishes he dressed up a little more for this Christmas party. He's in a white fleece sweater and black jeans. Hoseok, Jimin and Taehyung are in full on suits with flashy ties.
Drinks are offered and the tables are covered with food. Jungkook has been enjoying it, trying out different things. He had a variety of meats quite a bit of pasta. And then there's the desserts. He had candy, cookies, and cheesecake. After the cheesecake, Jungkook stops. It's so rich and doesn't agree with his stomach. That pasta was also pretty salty. "Ughh, that's not sitting right.." He feels queasy as his stomach churns uncomfortably with it.
Hoseok is having drinks with Yoongi and Namjoon. He's on his second one and feels buzzed. That alcohol can be sneaky and make him feel sour in minutes.
"Hoba, you still with us?" Yoongi sees his changing expressions.
Hoseok nods, quickly putting his half empty glass down. He doesn't like how it's mostly liquids stirring in his stomach. "I just gotta slow down is all.."
"Hm, good point. Don't wanna ruin that suit" Namjoon chuckles. "You should have some water and eat something."
Hoseok looks at the food table. He should probably eat but doesn't feel hungry. Jungkook sees Hoseok looking in his direction. No one can know that he's sick. The maknae smiles and waves to him, hiding his abdominal pain. Hoseok smiles and waves back, also trying to act normal.
Jungkook turns back around and nearly bumps into Jimin. "Whoa, Kookie, you good?"
"I'm sorry hyungie" *he burps into his hand suddenly* "uhh, 'scuse me.."
"No worries, you ok?"
Jungkook nods "mhm..never better!" He refrains from holding his middle. Instead he adjusts his sweater. "Do you think I'm underdressed?"
Jimin laughs out loud. "Nah, you look fine Kook" he brushes the soft sleeves with his hand.
"Yeah, you're right--" Jungkook stifles another burp. That one felt like a gag and he almost feels like throwing up. But that would be super awkward and spoil the vibe. Then again, this icky feeling inside is getting worse..
Hoseok tried eating some fruit but it seemed to backfire. His stomach roils inside in poor reaction. "Ughh, so much for that.." He hiccups and his stomach squelches. That doesn't feel good.
"Hyung, you doing ok?" Jungkook asks Hoseok now. Hoseok gives a thumbs up but backs away nervously.
"Everyone over here!" Seokjin is calling them for a picture. "Hobi, what are you doing? Come closer!" Hoseok holds his breath and cozies up to them, forcing a smile.
Jungkook is trying to look cheerful wedged between Taehyung and Jimin. They're all hugging tightly and he's afraid it'll squeeze the barf out of him. A terrible image that makes his stomach hurt. "..Did we get it?" Jungkook asks in a higher pitched voice. It feels like an eternity standing there.
"Let's take one in that corner, the lighting's better!" Taehyung suggests. Jungkook quietly groans at that idea and so does Hoseok. They do several more and Jungkook is spent. It feels like lead in his stomach and it hurts.
When the members are distracted looking at the results, Jungkook takes the chance and sneaks to the bathroom. He hates this feeling and wants to ease his queasy belly. He goes to the last stall that's partly hidden and locks it.
"I'll feel better after getting it out" he hopes.
Jungkook coughs wetly looking into the bowl. He feels it coming but it's a slower process than anticipated. He gags as his stomach churns with revulsion. Jungkook groans impatiently, almost wanting to change his mind. Does he really feel that sick?
His stomach says yes, making him heave up an atrocious wave into the bowl, turning the water clear to opaque in seconds. It's a thick yellow mushy paste and he moans in disgust at the sight. His body shakes rapidly as he gurgles up more of it.
Jungkook pauses once in a while, making sure he doesn't hear the door open or any footsteps. Still okay so far. His stomach contracts and he regurgitates more of his dinner. It's got a bittersweet taste that coats his mouth as it oozes out. He feels gross but it's not over.
Meanwhile at the bar, Hoseok is still debating what to do. He wants to barf but his stomach's just roiling in circles. He's trying to keep distracted hanging with Yoongi and Namjoon. The leader got them shots of tequila to celebrate their music achievements.
Oh no..
Hoseok knows that will definitely induce vomiting. But then realized that's exactly what he needs. Hoseok decides to take the shot and what ever happens, happens.
"Cheers!"
It burns his throat and disturbs his stomach fiercely. Hoseok gags and sprints to the bathroom.
Jungkook finally gets up and flushes the toilet. He actually does feel a bit better. And no one will know what happened, he smiles to himself. But then he looks down and gasps. The bottom of his white sweater got stained. "Awh shit!" JK cursed to himself. He thinks about trying to clean it, but worries he'll make it worse.
Just then, he hears the bathroom door and someone running in. Jungkook freezes. "Oh no, I'm caught.." But instead he hears another stall hastily open followed by a horrid retch, splashing loudly into the bowl. It startles him. What's going on? Who is that?? Jungkook wasn't sure but then recognized the shoes. "...Hobi hyung? Is that you?"
Hoseok's eyes widen, he didn't know someone else was here. And they just heard him vomit up a storm. Great. "Ughh, yeah.. it's me.. " Hoseok coughs and his stomach shoots up liquids like a fountain. He can still taste that tequila strongly and it smells even worse.
Jungkook hears all the awful sounds of Hoseok and he gets queasy again. He throws up and now they're both retching back to back.
Jungkook finishes and his stomach eases up. He finally got rid of it all. He goes to help Hoseok, who didn't have time to lock his door. "Hyung, what happened??"
Hoseok looks up briefly "T-tequila...and soju.."
Jungkook is shocked. He can't believe Hoseok was also sick tonight. How did he not notice?? Then again, they're both pretty good at hiding it..
"I didn't mean to make you sick Kook--" Hoseok dives his head expelling more.
"Oh no hyung, it's not your fault! I actually ate too much earlier" JK says sheepishly.
"And i had too much to drink" Hoseok groans, holding his abdomen. His throat hurts from the burning alcohol and stomach bile running through it. Jungkook rubs his nape as the dancer heaves twice more. The flow eventually fades and Hoseok pulls away. Miraculously, his suit is spotless.
"How do you feel now hyungie?"
"Hmm, I think I'm feeling..better?" Hoseok is surprised. His stomach just wanted to rid what was bothering it. "I'm never having tequila again."
"Oh, hyung, you still have a little on your chin" Jungkook gets a paper towel and gently wipes Hobi's face. Hoseok helps Jungkook clean his sweater. It isn't perfect but it is better.
"We should get out of here, the others are probably waiting."

Lots and LOTS have happened in the few days I haven't updated. But Hussie FINALLY took a day off so I have the chance to review in peace!!
First off we have new rules for the captchalogue system, including a size limit to digify items AND the potential to increase the upper limit (hasn't happened yet, but the office card speaks volumes). John has also opened the massive tomb "Colonel Sassacre's Daunting Text of Magical Frivolity and Practical Japery"
Tumblr media
and NOTHING useful for actually pranking someone of course (honestly disappointed there are no practical tips in this page). The picture in the middle looks a dead ringer for Mark Twain tho... idk if it is supposed to be Sassacre or just a collage of 1900's looking clownery and Twain's pic is public domain. I guess we'll see.... We also have a brandy new room to explore, complete with last years Dark Knight Joker on the piano. AND WE HAVE SOUND. OMG WE HAVE SOUND!! I think i've played the piano refrain a dozen times its so beautiful!! I'm starting to get the hang of Hussie's emotional whiplash between 4chan humor, niche commercials, and haunting, beautiful and poetic moments. Moments filled with niche media literacy, that he then lies about the source of. I have to look up so many quotes just to be sure who said it guys. So much homework!!! (>.<)
But is does lead into the best part of the updates. WE MADE IT OUTSIDE.
Tumblr media
Not only that BUT we have a beautiful animated title page, complete with neverending wind-chimes and a haunting monologue of emptiness and the feeling of missing something unknown.
Tumblr media
"The streets are empty. Wind skims the voids keeping neighbors apart, as if grazing the hollow of a cut reed, or say, a plundered mailbox. A familiar note is produced. It's the one Desolation plays to keep its instrument in tune. It is your thirteenth birthday, and as with all twelve preceding it, something feels missing from your life. The game presently eluding you is only the latest sleight of hand in the repertoire of an unseen riddler, one to engender a sense not of mirth, but of lack. His coarse schemes are those less of a prankster than a common pickpocket. His riddle is Absence itself. It is a mystery dispersing altogether, like the moon's faint reflection, with even one pebble of inquiry dropped in its black well. It is the most diabolical riddle of all. "Absence diminishes little passions and increases great ones, as wind extinguishes candles and fans a fire." -Walt Whitman Yes, you are certain Walt Whitman said that. One hundred percent positive. You have a feeling it's going to be a long day."
Francois de La Rochefoucauld said that... not Walt Whitman. I am starting to think John reads a LOT of classic literature and is not a great narrator. I am not an English Major OR Literature Major tho, so this means little to me in the grand scheme of plots and subtext. Moving on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we have two packages found at last and a visible SBURB disc.... trapped with father who may or may not be baking yet ANOTHER cake. more small mysteries and conflict to hold onto XD Finally, as we go back inside... the cake did not hold as adhesive and our harlequin doll is now missing an arm. Tragedy. Throw it in the fire. PLEASE. Since this has been a lot of updates together I am afraid I have missed things and underplayed just how much were in the last 20 pages... so if you notice anything else let me know!! I wanna see it all!.

I have to refrain from just saying 'all' for the parenting thing so; Kakayama for 1, 7, 13, A, and C
1. Who do the kids enjoy playing with the most?
Yamato. He makes faces how could they not love playing with him?
7. Who trails behind the baby to make sure they don’t fall? (And then has to console them once they inevitably do.)
Yamato
Man screams ‘anxious parent’ and given his upbringing, valid.
Plus Kakashi can catch them quickly, but Yamato catches them using Mokuton and they love it Xd
13. Who checks under the bed for monsters?
Kakashi
Yamato deals in real threats, not ‘pretend’ threats. Kakashi does not mind entertaining fears Yamato considers silly, and will put on a show of making sure there’s no monsters anywhere in the room.
A. Who do they think their child takes after? In what ways do they remind them of each other?
Mostly Kakashi in personality. It’s a hatake thing. You get the worse personality traits and the physical traits from the other parent xD it irks Yamato cuz his kid has picked up Kakashi’s bad habit of bullying him
Their kid also got Yamato’s expressive reactions though, and it’s something that always has Kakashi on edge XD
C. Did their relationship change once they became parents? How?
No. It would stay pretty much the same.
Yamato was actually pleasantly surprised cuz he kind of expected Kakashi to be a more hands off parent, but Kakashi’s actually very hands on and always helping their kiddo learn and grow

so I’m a compulsive crafter (sewing, knitting, nalbinding, jewelry-making, etc.), and i know that w/ all that time on my hands in between… “freeing” those demons that i’d be chomping at the bit to continue my craft-scepades in hell.
i personally would want to ask the devils to collect some of the clothes from the dead angels after a battle so I can wash them & cut them into strips to make extra bandages, or to use thin strips of the material to make items (thick nalbinded wrist cuffs for better protection, woven belts, etc.) that might help the devils (or just as gifts). this way, i’m scratching a creative itch and feeling a little more helpful than i would otherwise. (plus i feel like some devils would get a kick out of wearing stuff made from angel cloth in battle, like andrealphus, for instance.)
how would the kings react to such a request and to receiving such an item?
(sorry if this ask is too weird/abstract, lol.)
(It's okay, I can see where you're coming from XD)
Satan heard your request and had the biggest grin plastered on his face. "This is a really weird request coming from a human who should have morals, but it would be a waste to leave it all to rot on the battlefield." He was excited to see what you would create and thus gave commands to collect whatever seemed salvageable. At times you would have Leraye or Sitri visit you with a lot of chunks of fabric. Other times you would see Paimon giving you some bloodied fabric while also being covered from head to toe with blood. Satan would probably admire your talent with how much it can help them during the war. "Seems like you have multiple ways to help us after all.", he'd say as he happily receives one of your self-crafted items. Mammon would look at what you made with a mix of interest and amusement. Why make armor for a group of devils that are known to be physically strong? Eligos, despite being the little one of the group, is known to withstand a lot of impact. Bimet didn't want to wear something that had anything to do with angels. So the group couldn't care too much about what you made, but your abilities did make them interested in what else you could craft. It would result in Mammon even asking if you can make jewelry and giving you some expensive fabric for any future projects. If you want any rare fabric or metal you could always ask Mammon. He'd be happy to give you some instead of using the angel's fabrics. "Believe me. What I have in Tartaros is better than any fabric those angels could give you." Leviathan needed a moment to think about what you said. He honestly was interested in your crafting abilities and wanted to help, but the thought of going into a swarm of demons and angels was way out of his comfort zone. He would send one of his nobles to search it for you, but some would refrain from doing so because of the gentlemanly standards they have in Hades. There's one demon that wouldn't mind collecting the scraps you wanted. Glasya would love to do so. He's even amused by your thoughts. Leviathan really didn't have to say much. But he was at a time jealous of what the angels had so he would appreciate what you'll make for him and his army of devils. Beelzebub just handed you materials before you could ask. No, he didn't predict that you wanted them, but he and his team sometimes just collect scraps in case another problem arises in Avisos while Beelzebub is absent. Many weird and unexplainable things happened there. That is the power of Beel, so it wasn't a surprise to most demons when Beelzebub asked you to store the scraps. When you tell him if you could use some for your ideas, he will let you. "See! I told you this would come in handy once.", Beelzebub said to his nobles. The nobles never really understood why he collected scraps. They know that a lot of strange things can happen, but Avisos isn't poor or anything. They just never had the courage or the energy to ask Beelzebub why he collected from the dead angels. They just blamed it on him being mysterious 24/7. Even Bael would sigh at times when he had to move the scraps into a storage room. At least someone can use them now.

Annon-Guy: What do you think of the Sonic Adventure 2 Songs?
All of them are bops. Sonic's theme takes the original lyrics, bumps them up to fit a faster paced and more upbeat song. Improves upon the original in every way. The original from Sonic Adventure is already a 9 out of 10, but this pushes it up to a 10/10, and the opening whistle sound is iconic, honestly. Tails' theme is, musically, better than the original. The arrangement fits with Tails' character growth as he becomes more capable and confident, even though he botches the main mission at the end and almost gets Sonic killed because, well, he's an 8 year old kid. Or he used to be. Sega seems to be scrubbing up the lore and trying to make his age ambiguous now which I literally just found out about because I couldn't remember whether he was 6 or 8 or 10 and apparently he's been depicted as young as 4 and a half in some materials which is wild. Like, I love the child genius archetype in fiction but dear god 4 is definitely too young. If he wants to be meddling with machines that can crush his little bones in his own house I guess that's fine but running around and destroying Eggman with Sonic at age 4 is insane. Little buddy you should be sipping some juice and making sand castles. Sonic's already too young to be fighting villains like Eggman as a teen (though to be fair I aged wildly out of the target demographic so EVERYONE in that series except maybe Eggman and Shadow are too young to be doing what they're doing! XD) Tails fucking up a grown man at age 4 is just insane to think about. Like yes yes child genius but FFS, 4 is just a baby. And they did it again with Cream and Cheese later. I understand that in a lot of lore it's all the animals against Eggman because he's literally a terrorist and they have no choice but come on, when you can walk around station square and see grown adults who aren't doing jack shit to stop Eggman, it should not fall to fucking prepubescent kids to fight back. AUGH!) Rant aside, Tails' theme also increases the pep as Sonic's new arrangement does, but the flaw is that the lyrics don't flow as well. The chorus absolutely cranks it up to 20/10. That slow and yearning "I want to fly high" is absolutely killer. The first verse absolutely bops too. But when it gets to later verses, the lyrics fall apart and just don't fit the rhythm. Also, they lose out on the absolutely killer bit of "there's things that only I can do, No one's Alone!" from the first arrangement. Now it's just smushed together into some unrecognizeable word salad due to trying to fit the original lyrics in an arrangement where they don't vibe well. I think it would be possible to take the best parts of both arrangements and make a 12/10 song, but as it stands, they're both about equally good at 8/10.
Knuckles' theme improves. The softer voice for the rap fits much better with the lyrical vocals they ported over as a backdrop from the first arrangement, but the sound mixing is poor so that it's difficult to parse the lyrics if you don't already know them. But then again maybe that's just my auditory processing disorder. That said, I do think the contrast of the rougher rap and the softer vocals being kept separate in the original was thematically on-point. If they had kept the rap in the new arrangement distinct from the vocals they took from the original and kept it as a refrain between verses, it would be absolute fire. Still an improvement. The scratching lends a hip-hop quality to it that I definitely jive with. Absolute fire. Original was a decent 7/10, the new version manages an 8.5 out of 10. If the sound mixing was a little better and they kept the original vocals as a refrain, I think it could be a 9.5 out of 10. Shadow's theme is, sadly, the weakest to me. It absolutely fits his character, but the vocal performance is weak. Say what you will about the game "Shadow the Hedgehog" but that had absolutely baller themes for Shadow and the lyrics absolutely added to it. I understand that theoretically Shadow would have actually permanently died at the end of SA2, and they only brought him back because he was insanely popular. So setting him apart with the harsher techno-rock-metal soundtrack where the lyrics aren't the focus sets him up as an intimidating foil to Sonic's more cheerful and upbeat personality and the contrasting themes absolutely reflect that. But I feel like they could have done a little more to reflect Shadow's ultimate conflict of realizing that revenge doesn't change anything and that Maria wouldn't have wanted him to destroy the world for her. Honestly I feel the same about Richter's theme from DotNW but in a different direction. While Richter's theme does try to telegraph his more complicated feelings and motives by setting up that harsh, rhythmic bass line and bringing in the sweeter violin, it sounds too dissonant to me. I think they could have had more synergy. Shadow's theme is a bit of the opposite. I think there could have been more contrast. Honestly the lyrics come in so late and so low that I forget this song even has lyrics. 8/10. I prefer more of the themes from the Shadow the Hedgehog game.
Eggman's theme is absolute fire. No notes. Massive improvement from the first game. This song has everything. The mechanical noises reminding you of who he is, Ivo Robotnik, and how that ties into the grand scheme of things. The self-aggrandizing lyrics. The droning rhythmic synth track that just oozes "factory assembly line" energy. It sounds cool but intimidating, with just an edge of "how fucking goofy, who does this guy think he is?!" While I absolutely adore the toothless joke villain Eggman gets set up to be in a lot of the newer stuff, namely the Sonic Boom series and games, I love this intersection where Eggman has just enough over-the-top zazz to make you raise an eyebrow. It sits right on the precipice of "either this guy really knows what he's doing and is so confident about it, he doesn't care if he looks goofy doing it or he's an ABSOLUTE idiot who just happens to fail upward." And it's right in that sweet spot where he can be the butt of the joke while also being intimidating. Absolute peak of both camp villain and cartoonishly evil while having just enough power and wits to be a genuine threat. The main chorus literally begins with "I am the Eggman" which, in spite of all odds, makes the name that Sonic gave him as an insult out to be a genuinely threatening moniker. As if to proclaim, yes, go ahead, think of me as a joke. Underestimate me. It won't matter in the end. He is not just Eggman. He is THE Eggman. The one and only. And he's going to build his empire over the bulldozed remains of your city whether you put respect on that name or not. And his theme song encapsulates all that while being a genuine bop. 100/10. Genuinely one of the best themes ever written for the Sonic Franchise.
And that leaves us with Rouge. And for a new character BOY OH BOY, did they hit it OUT OF THE PARK with her theme. That soft jazz, the soft, sultry vocals that ramp up into confident high heady notes. Absolute banger. Tells us everything we need to know about Rouge as a character. A spy, a theif, a sneak, and a Woman with the uppercase W. She knows who she is, she knows what she wants, and she will use everything to get it. Overtly sexualized, but in a way I don't necessarily mind, even if it's right on the cusp of being inappropriate for a game meant to be played by kids. She was a lot of young mens' (and young womens') sexual awakening for a reason. While noting in the canon of the game shows her actively using her body in a sexual way to get what she wants, I don't think it's inaccurate to extrapolate from her theme and her way of speaking and walking that she absolutely would if this was a game for Adults. The parallels to Catwoman are not an accident. And her theme song does a masterful job of indicating all that without actually treading into inappropriate territory. Even Wild Canyon's theme explicitly references her as an object of desire and that Knuckles being that shy guy that doesn't know how to deal with pretty women is absolutely affected by her. I think part of the reason it's easy to forgive Rouge being sexualized is because she's an active, intelligent character who is at all times, using the people around her. She is not some sexy lamp that you can upskirt for sick thrills whom the narrative has to repeatedly assure us "don't worry, this isn't skeevy, she definitely likes it, we promise." This is a woman with steel-toed high heels that breaks into bank vaults and could kill the average man with a single kick. She's hot, she knows she's hot, and she uses that to her advantage to wriggle into positions of power and advantage. And she's fine with being that way. Her arc isn't about some condescending narrative about how she shouldn't have to behave that way. If anything her main arc is that she's absolutely stellar being exactly as she is and provides valuable skills to the team to help save the world. She's a stereotype, but not actually one that I mind. Because she's not just a sexy woman who loves money and jewels and has nothing else to her. I would classify her as a witch archetype despite not having supernatural powers other than sensing gems, which is a gimmick Knuckles also has and is never explained as anything other than a game mechanic. She has power and talent in her own right and while she is a direct foil to Knuckles and works alongside Eggman and Shadow, she isn't defined solely by how she relates to the men that surround her. She's an absolute beast and I love her. One of my favorite Sonic Characters of all time. Even with her damsel in distress moments, I never got the sense that she was incapable. Just overconfident. But not in a "LOL, how stupid of a woman to think she can tangle with the big boys." but "She is literally walking among titans, she's bound to trip up a little." The only time it felt forced was in her final confrontation with Knuckles where she falls off a beam. I understand the idea was probably "she's tired from fighting and can't right herself immediately, which is the reason she fell in the first place." so it's ambiguous whether she could have saved herself, despite having wings. But even if all the nitpickers are actually correct and she was never in danger, Knuckles reaching out to save her is more about the kind of person he is than the kind of person Rouge is. That said, yeah, her theme is a fucking banger. Second best track from the character themes, for real. 20/10 at least. No notes. Absolutely accomplishes the goal of distilling who Rouge is into a single song. Absolute queen.

Give me all the hot takes
🔥🔥🔥
OMG I feel like I have nothing but hot takes, if I listed them all we'd be here for years 🤣 I will give as many as the number of flames you sent!
Under a cut, because (unsurprisingly) it got long XD
There is ✧・゚:* nothing *:・゚✧ in the published text of The Silmarillion to indicate that Eol was chronically abusive/violent towards Aredhel or Maeglin during all their years together. One single snippet of dialogue of one single exchange of heated words does not constitute an abusive environment, as neither do arguments/disagreements or the experiencing of anger. If anything, instead of being present and violent, it seems as though distance grew between them and he made himself scarce more often than not. His relationships with both his wife and his son are clearly shown to be cases of mutual deterioration over time -- people who are fundamentally at cross purposes with each other, as far as wants and beliefs and desires go, and the text quite solidly implies that Aredhel had her share of the blame, given as she was to recklessness, impulse, changeable mood and mind, etc. -- and this decline was almost exclusively exacerbated by the effect of outside forces on their lives (Sindar vs. Noldor, the ban on quenya, Feanor's sons and Aredhel's connection with them specifically, etc.), rather than any more domestic issues between them. Was it unhealthy? Sure, but certainly nowhere near the picture general fandom paints "canon" out to be, and I wish more people would engage in the wonderful nuance the text provides us with. Also, as far as published Silm goes, Eol wove enchantments to draw Aredhel to his dwelling, but it doesn't say he forced or coerced or enchanted her to enter; she entered and stayed willingly. And it drives me crazy to see people flay Eol as a rapist in one breath, while going 'YAS QUEEN' for Melian with another*, when it's the same scenario in, incredibly, the same place -- it smacks of double-standards, and a couple of other words that I will refrain from using, as some people on this website think I'm nice and I'd hate to shatter that illusion XD *I have absolutely no issue with Melian; I really enjoy her as a character. It's the hypocrisy that I can't stand :)
I've ranted about this before in the tags of some post somewhere, but: Celebrimbor. It's been my experience that, fairly frequently, there's a tendency to portray him in a manner that tends to make him very... bland. Wonderbread™, if you will. Idk if it's to contrast Annatar or to contrast Feanor and Curufin, but it ends up making Celebrimbor far too soft and pliable and people-pleasing, distastefully so, taking away all of the interesting hard surfaces and edges. Yes, he distances himself from his family and rejects them; yes, he can want to build a new reputation of his own, untainted by the First Age; yes, Ost-in-Edhil can be a place of open doors and second chances; yes, he can be hyper-aware of his legacy as Feanor's grandson and seek to present an opposite image through his words and actions -- all of this is beautiful. But it's even more beautiful if he's allowed to have traits that are callbacks to his father and grandfather; let him be angry (in private or in public, in short isolated spurts that come out of nowhere or as a simmering undercurrent), let him be shrewd and sharp and opinionated (let Annatar cut himself on him a little). This doesn't mean he can't also be kind and earnest and honest and trying his best. Most of all, let him be greedy -- not only for knowledge or power in and of themselves, not necessarily, but for what those things can afford him: the ability to make that which he loves (i.e. Middle Earth) a better, grander place. We're all greedy for the things we want, and I would argue most of those things aren't negative -- stability, acceptance, a better tomorrow, etc. Greed isn't limited to physical things or luxuries and it isn't inherently a bad thing! [/troy baker voice]. There's just so much there to play with, even completely aside from his dynamic with Annatar, and it just makes me equal parts sad and upset to see a character with such ambition and potential and fire frequently so babied and made naive, that he is reduced to the written equivalent of a soggy waffle.
Okay, now for something that is a bit more lighthearted and personal, but no less hot -- and perhaps? may contradict your own Mairon interpretation (in which case, I'm always happy to agree to disagree ^^) -- I can totally see why fandom makes Sauron into this super sexy/sexual creature but... it's a hard nope from me. He's certainly alluring and attractive to others, and knows how to use it to great effect, but I just can't see him genuinely vibing with it, relishing in it for himself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I know I keep harping on the Luthien incident, but it's just such a stark contrast to literally everyone else who comes across her -- including Melkor -- that it's really difficult to interpret his utter non-reaction to her as anything but a personal disinterest in matters of the flesh, at least in and of themselves without some kind of connection/relationship there. Everyone likes to joke about him being the whore/slut of the Silm, and sure it can be funny at times, but that concept is just so alien to how he reads to me.

Man idk I would hyperfocus on this but omg that was fun I put some lyrics in here too of why I think they fit the song but it might be enough to say if you think you'll vibe too :3 sooooo hope you enjoy You didn't say Kid but uh... there's a... few really good ones for him too >>
Sabo I think he knows "His hands around a cold glass make me wanna know that body like it's mine" "Wanna see what's under that attitude"
Mastermind "And the first night that you saw me I knew I wanted your body" "I laid the groundwork, and then saw a wide smirk"
Marco Gorgeous "Got drunk and made fun of the way you talk" (yoi lmaoooo) "Ocean Blue eyes looking in mine I feel like I might sink and drown and die"
Electric Touch I got no good reason for this I think it's the FOB influence that makes me think of him and I think it goes with the playlist well :3 and maybe with his devil fruit he's got a little electric touch >>
Honorable mention bc I DIDN'T think of Marco with this one until I read birds of a feather and that reader ended up on the Moby so this is specific to that story xD Invisible String
Thatch Begin Again idk thatch just gives such fresh vibes it really gives me like proper gentlemen vibes which is thatch 100%
Sweet Nothings "You're in the kitchen humming" you know he hums when he cooks I can't "All you ever wanted from me was nothing"
Kid So It Goes THERES A LINE THAT SAYS WEAR YOU LIKE A NECKLACE OK AND ONE THAT SAYS SCRATCHES DOWN YOUR BACK NOW OK I don't spend a lot of time pondering about Kid admiringly but whenever this song comes on... oof
False God Worshipping at an altar of hips… << Also just some like kinda back and forth vibes which I get for kid so much
Honorable mention but I can't 100% think of one person with it but: Dress "Carve your name into my bedpost" "Only bought this dress so you could take it off"
Wah that's so much I'm sorry I'm just a little crazy and that was fun I don't expect you to listen to them all but I hope you can maybe find a something you like :3
Working my way through this (thank you so much too! This is way more comprehensive than I expected XD )
Mastermind made it onto the playlist - PERFECT. I put the other on my liked songs, it might need to grow on me, the octave shift from chorus and refrain is jarring, but I like the lyrics.
Electric Touch made it too (Gorgeous is on the liked list XD ) - but
Tumblr media
Is SUCH Birds of a Feather vibes I had to it. /nod nod/
Oh I do like the vibes of invisible string... I'mma add that too.
Begin again, oh that's in. Reader doesn't have an ex, but the VIBES are there for Hey Doll. And just great Thatch feels too. I like Sweet Nothings too but I wanna listen to it more first.
oh that Lipstick on your face is Kid vibes too, I like So It Goes for Kid, but the song's so mellow it's hard to it add it to what I have for him. It's really good Host Club AU vibes though, I should start that playlist soon. (whew heck that False God too, hot damn).
ooooh... Dress makes me think of Sir Crocodile a lot. I can see it for Marco and Rayleigh too. There's some solid Killer feels in it too. I'd almost include Kid because of the ferocity of the desire to just be tangled up in one another. I see EXACTLY what you mean by the multi-vibes.

Unicorn Warriors Eternal ep 4
Sooooo... THAT happened.
THat by which was the most screwed up love rectangle/triangle?.... Love mess. Reincarnations man (glad they didn’t go that route with Avatar XD). Point is... okay so its established the Lady Fox/or kitsune is basically the evil they fight, TIME and time again. The fight scenes were good.
Whats getting old is this love mess. I can’t call it a love shape because technically Edred isn’t really after Emma. He wants his Melinda. Emma...is at most confused I think that whole scene was cute and I think she actually felt chemistry which again brings up to point.... since Melinda/Edred are reincarnated TIME and time again... have these two made their carnations (or caused) them to reproduce offspring together? I say that because the last episode clarified it sorta... we only saw “2″ or our three... so it would be correct to assume Edred’s incarnation (unless born a woman) had children with Melinda’s.
Part of me is annoyed with Emma. But I say part, because again the Creator stated that this is focusing on Emma’s arc. Adult me knows that... but also me wants to say “EMMA IF YOU ARE HAVING ANGSTS AT LEAST TALK ABOUT IT”. She’s been vocal about everything else the “I don’t wanna do this”, the “I’ve got two mes”. Fine I get that then just admit to your team that you are afraid to fully use your powers. Edred I get why she’s refraining... but I want to assume she’s on a better familiarity with Seng/Alfie and the robot. Gahhh I feel more would get done if this show was longerXD.
But its minor with Emma so I’m not entirely annoyed... what I’m getting annoyed with is the love mess. I admit the jealous side of Edred was not the most ... I’ll just be honest I hate love drama it ruins a character, so it makes it less enjoyable. Watching Edred/Winston fight over Emma/Melinda was veryyyy annoying and I almost wonder why she didn’t smack them both and go “I’M NOT PROPERTY”
But having said that... I do get why Edred is having trouble accepting this. Like Melinda they’ve been use to just being in control. Their incarnations have never talked back/or their lives never got in the way. So that much I understand... buttttt also Edred yeah you were a little harsh on Emma/Melinda in regards to her powers. And I feel even if that was technically Emma mad, he’s seen that look from Melinda. But again he went about it wrong, instead of actually talking/or apologizing he attempted to flirt with what he thought was his lover.
Then we get to Winston... I’m not gonna lie he’s annoying the hell out of me. Yes, yes, adult me and bigger picture he’s concerned for Emma. But COME ONNNN. That fight was literally over towns there is NO WAY he kept up that long. That was annoyingly cartoonish how he popped up out of no where. “Oh I followed you”... Me: BULLSHIT, you are not that fast and several things almost killed people.
Its not that I hate Winston its just his character does NOTHING for the story or Emma other than going “I love you”.  If I thought he had SOME form of Sherlock Holmes fighting skill then maybe I could let it go. But he’s like reverse damsel in distress. He ALWAYS gets in the way. And like Edred, he’s also pushing Emma. He’s like “LEAVE”, “She can’t fight”. I’m like dude, BIGGER PICTURE GOING ON.
Winston’s character seems to flip/flop in regards to all the crazy shit going on. I admit it was kinda.. racist/or xenophobic(I dunno the PC terms in regards to supernatural creatures) how he kept making fun of Edred for being elf. Yes one could argue he doesn’t believe in magic. But again thats were the flip/flop comes in. If he’s been following Emma since the hospital... then he should have seen the POSSESSED statues, a LITERAL fox lady, his FIANCE and EDRED floating, ALFIE IS LITERALLY FADING AWAY!  What more do you want? The hand of God to slap you and go “Buddy its real, get over it”.
Just haaahh Winston is so literally annoying. I would rather him go “I’ll wait for you”(cause again we don’t know what happens after the incarnations defeat the fox) or get some sense smacked into them that they HAVE to fight. But he literally brings nothing to the table and I’m so tired of him.
And whether Edred likes it. He’s fueled him to follow them more (which I get, again its Emma. Edred/Melinda are just technically spirits). But because Winston literally does NOTHING/and... looking at how he couldn’t even knock down the robot its fair to say he’s useless in a fight. He’s gonna get in the way or worse killed. I don’t want dummy dead, just out of the way 8B. Go and sit tea and wait for her dummy. Her parents are and thats her parents, they want their daughter back but I think that last quote her father said... it meant something. He knew it was something out of their hands.
Anything else.. a part of me wishes the Russian guy did take over Edred for a moment... or that Emma would talk to Alfie. Let her get some sense she’s not completely alone. I get the development will be solely focused on Melinda/Emma ... but it would be nice for the others to have some as well. See the trio bond together. Well four counting the robot.
EXTRA NOTE:: Because I forgot to add this. Whether its Melinda/Edred talking to Emma... I think they all do just need to talk. Admit into their humanity... what to I mean by that... I admit they’ve made mistakes. I admit thats another problem Edred is acting like a teacher. Which isn’t bad... whats bad is that he forgets this isn’t Melinda(fully?o3o). I mean yeah Alfie was as shocked. But Alfie kinda had his own thing(and again Emma isn’t voicing her anxieties, back to focus sorry). Edred and them need to remember that Emma/and probably Alfie(he hasn’t done much yet except make the mistake of trusting that fox plus he’s what I assume a child, .... I think? He was on a rival team against Winston’s ... so how old is he?oO) are not perfect. And although they’ve had CENTURIES of training. I don’t fully believe Edred and Melinda were born naturally gifted. I feel they both made mistakes and they both trained to control their abilities.

MAG 167 Relisten
Activity on my first listen: cutting the Kolkwitzia amabilis in my garden.
JON: "Help us with what?" MARTIN: "Excuse me?" [IT BECOMES CLEAR THAT THE ARCHIVIST’S STATIC IS PRESENT.] JON: "Annabelle, help us with… what, our, our, our journey, killing Elias, vanishing the Entities – what?" MARTIN: "Please don’t do that." JON: "Do what? (realizes) Oh. Oh, right, I, I see, yes. Well, I – Sorry" That's the tricky thing about the Beholding. Jon doesn't even know he's doing it, he doesn't know where that information came from. And I totally can relate to that, have you ever had this? You know something, but you absolutely don't know who told you or where was it you read that, or when that happened. Maybe accidentally you tell someone something, about which they are like "Hey! How'd you know that??". Or like "What? No, I didn't know that!!!" because you thought they would already know that... I had that a few times and it’s always awkward ^^’ Jon has to be so careful about everything he knows now.
MARTIN: "It doesn’t – feel great, having someone look inside your head." JON: "You can – feel it?" [MARTIN EXHALES, A SMALL PUFF OF A THING.] MARTIN:"No, but that’s hardly the point, Jon –" Yeah that. Just because you're in a relationship you're not entitled to share each and every thought with them. Having privacy is such an important thing in every kind of relationship. But they come to the same conclusion, that's good.
MARTIN: "It’s just – it’s weird knowing that you can know literally everything I think and feel. E-Especially since you’re not exactly the most open of people – emotionally, I mean." Sure, Mr. replying "cool" to being told you’re the reason to keep going for your significant other. And it's not even true. Jon shared a lot about how he feels about all of this. He did in the cabin and just an episode ago he told Martin he's ashamed about his privileged situation. It's just, sometimes it's hard to be open when you're not in the mindset for it. And that seems to be the case here.
JON: "I can, I, I just – it – You’re absolutely right. I will refrain from Knowing anything about you." MARTIN: "Thank you." JON: "Unless you’re in danger." MARTIN: (with a laugh) "Physical danger; If I’m in danger of being mad at you or something you’ve got to figure it out the old-fashioned way." Since they're going to need that in the near future it's good that they discussed it already.
JON: "Martin, I’m not looking for a – loophole." MARTIN: "Well, good, ‘cause this isn’t one." [BRIEF PAUSE.] JON: (teasing) "Methinks the Spider dost protest too much." [MARTIN STOPS WALKING.] MARTIN: "Jon –" JON: (jeez) "Joking! Just joking." [THEY START WALKING AGAIN.] Theatre kid Jon is back xD And Martin doesn't get it or is just not in the mood right now. I'd say it's more likely to be the latter, but Martin has a history of not getting Jon's jokes.
MARTIN: "Just – I don’t know, it – it worries me, I guess? You know, when you do the whole – (imitation of the Archivist’s ‘Statement Voice’) – curse this flesh prison – (normal) – thing, it – I get you’re different; none of us are what we were, but, well? It worries me." Hm, that seems to be one of the things Martin is most scared of. Losing Jon to the Eye. It's the same in MAG 194 then. But he’s surely conflicted about it because Martin is very excited about Jon’s smiting power.
Martin does ask a lot of questions and I don't think he's aware, that each one could of course trigger one of Jon's statements. Like in MAG 164, when Martin asked about the others. The answers about Daisy or Basira were dangerously close. Just wondering about this cause Martin says he doesn't want to hear the statements. But he's still curious about things. It was bound to happen...
"Because when she was pushed to the very limits of her terror, Fiona Law would faint. And while there are those things in the dark that would kill you as you slept, most get no real delight from it, unless you are awake enough to know what is happening." This also fits very well to the whole strategy of not feeling fear will save you, no matter how you do it. Very similar to Karolina Gorka from MAG 71, who just went to sleep xD No conscience, no fear.
"And even stranger, when Angus Stacey died and she had the chance to walk away, she decided to remain." After my first listen I totally didn't remember if the Archivist dying would release the assistants is actually canon, or if I just thought about it being a possibility or read it in a fanfic xD I thought it was canon, but I just couldn't find which episode this was.
All of the assistants being super Eye-aligned is no big surprise...
"When Emma came to tell Gertrude what had happened, she found the first of the cobwebs in her hair, the ones she would wash from it every morning for the rest of her life." That is such a good idea and I don't know if this was meant to be the reason or if it's just a happy coincident, but I like that headcanon of Jon's greying hair also being cobwebs as hair, a side effect of being marked by the Spider.
Ah yes, the timeline getting a bit chaotic here^^ Michael being the replacement for Fiona, who officially died of a liver transplant in 2003 according to MAG 29 (which could be a cover-up), but also Michael was supposed to have known Eric. But Eric quit shortly after Gerry was born and that was in the 80s...
"She even convinced Sarah to stay inside an old man’s house, desperate to see her eaten by a hungry door, but was again disappointed" Ah yes, the old MacKenzie from MAG 27.
"Sarah may have noticed the thin lines in his flesh from whence spilled a dull orange glow." Ha, sounds like Bolvar from WoW xD
And more timeline chaos, this time with Agnes. Agnes was said to have died in 2006. But Gertrude only became aware of Emma's crimes after she went to Sannikov Land, which was sometime 2009 till 2011... I mean, there already have been discrepancies in the timeline here in MAG 19/20, as that was in 2008, but recounted the same event that should have happened in 2006 according to MAG 8.
"It was a trivial matter to convince the man who now watched from the skull of Elias Bouchard to allow it, so long as the deed did not take place within the Archives itself." Elias, I need to kill the last of my assistants - Yes yes, go ahead, but I don't want a mess in my institute. (There is a post about Elias having a form for the authorisation of killing institute staff and I love it xD)
JON: "And she’d have resigned herself to – ruling her domain." MARTIN: "What domain?" JON: "We all have domain here, Martin. The place that feeds us." MARTIN: "Oh. (brief pause) Where’s yours?" JON: (laugh) "I mean we’re – traveling towards it." MARTIN: "Oh. Right, obviously. Duh. Uh, what about me?" JON: (cautiously) "Would you… like me to –" MARTIN: (overlapping, sharp) "No, no. Don’t tell me. I don’t want to know." I don't quite understand why Martin will be so upset when Helen told him, he also has a domain with victims in it. He knew, he had one, and he declined to hear any more details about it. Probably playing a bit S1!Jon then, super in denial.
MARTIN: (coy) "So. If you say Gertrude wouldn’t have been able to go on without a reason –" JON: (overlapping, audible fond eyeroll) "Yes, Martin, you are my reason." MARTIN: "Just wanted to make you say it!" [A BEAT WHEREIN THE ARCHIVIST INHALES.] MARTIN: "Cool." Now who's not emotionally open? XD Jon is clearly the one who is more outgoing in showing affection in this relationship!
MARTIN: "You said Fiona was… released when he died." JON: "Yes." MARTIN: "If you had died, would the others have been able to quit?" JON: "Yes. (pause) I didn’t know." MARTIN: "If you had, would you have told them? Would that have, have changed what happened?" JON: (sigh) "I don’t know, Martin. I-I don’t know." First, yeah, that is a really, reaaally mean fact to the whole Archivist/archival staff situation. One that probably makes Jon think even more that he should have just died, that everyone would have been better off with him dead. Second, what is Martin asking? Telling the others, to what? Give them a reason to murder Jon? And Martin asking if that had changed what happened, he must be aware that the only way, this could have changed things, is the one with Jon dead. Or is Martin just paraphrasing the question whether Jon was suicidal or not?

God dangit, that Vlad tally mark image you used in your reply post has now got me thinking of an Anastasia movie esque au for Nortalice now that will NOT make any sense! 😅
Like both Orpheus and Alice are obviously raised by her parents and the DeRoss family, and have an almost idyllic childhood together. And then there's Norton in this AU, somehow being a kitchen boy as a young boy for the household, but it's not like he's gonna complain about his position. He has a warm roof over his head, some decent pay, and he could easily help himself to any leftovers that guests left behind, so he could tolerate being bossed around by the adult servants and even being dragged occasionally by a young Alice to be her second playmate to play with her collection of dolls (always tempted to just rip off their heads for their annoying squeaky voices, but refrains from doing so XD) Young! Alice: Yay dolls! ^_^ Young! Norton: Yay... -_-
But all good things unfortunately come to a tragic end when their house is attacked, killing almost everyone inside, with Orpheus and Alice barely making it out without being seen. Norton is tempted to not get involved, but his conscious gets the better of him and aids them in their escape, but not without earning a scar on his arm. Orpheus and Alice proceed to get separated and both losing their memories. Which certainly complicates things when years later when Orpheus is trying to look for her and dealing with imposters. Cue in a grown Norton reluctantly teaming up with Melly, not only for her to regain her noblewoman status after her husband's "death", but to get the reward money. They come across an amnesiac Alice, or Eury, who looks EXTREMEMLY similar to the missing girl and offers to help transport her to Paris to look for her family, AKA Orpheus. Melly helps coach her in court etiquette and Norton finding himself falling HARD for her despite him (I swear, someone put "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)" in a Nortalice playlist XD). Also Fredrick is in there somehow 😅.
But honestly, I think this messy AU is more of an excuse to see Alice in the sparkly opera dress and Norton going 0_0, and Melly going "Ah, an unspoken attraction I see 😏." XDD
BAHAHAHAHAHAA! My master plan has come to fruition!! 🤣🤣 Infecting the mind with NortAlice~
Tumblr media
This is legit so effin PERFECT LOOOOOOOOOOOOLL
Norton: "what are you called?" Alice: "Eurydice." Norton: "Alright, Uranus." Alice: "EU RY DIC EEEEE" Norton: "whatever"
Okay Melly as Vlad has me ROLLING HAHAHAHA I LOVE this so much 🤣 Melly: "I see an engaging and fiery young woman" -rizzing Alice up to give her confidence to go through with this- Alice: "😊" Norton just barging in: "Alright, ready to become Alice or what?" Alice: 😒 Melly:😡💢💢
LOL maybe Frederick is Sophie LOOOOOOOOOOOOL Melly: "my sugar plum..." Frederick: "why must you say odd shi--" Melly: "if you want in on the money you better effin play along"
No FOR REAL 👏👏👏🤌🤌🤌Alice needs to be in all those gorgeous dresses and to be adored AAHHHHHH give that Norton them doki dokis 🤣

aghhhh ok fine
I did do a music post in the past, but i'll indulge you, @jev-urisk XD
(quickly tho, cuz i'm writing rn)
one song each and a explanation of why :D (i was gonna do three each but then this post would be crazy long)
also, spoilers for Party of Three becase i can't explain these things entirely without spoilers (i tried my best to avoid massive ones)
As such:
Vague-ish spoilers for Taka's future
Minor spoilers for Beriyl's past
Relatively massive spoilers for Arthur and Eirairr's backstories
Taka:
Refrain Boy - ALL OFF
(I am very very passionate about music so this will probably be a long post despite me saying otherwise lmao)
Reasoning: This song to me, embodies a lot of things. The "going ahead with life even though it's hard," that really awesome feeling a lot of shonen have about "pushing through stuff with your friends no matter what," that "great things are gonna happen for you in the future" vibe, its really hard for me to put this emotion into words, but just the "You can look forward to fun stuff in the future, and as long as you have your bonds and yourself, you'll be okay, even if it's sad and hard" and i really, honestly think that embodies Taka very much. He is very much a person who cares VERY much about his friends, he's a very adventurous person, I'm very honored to get to write about him because his journey is to me, one that is very special and very beautiful. We literally watch this scared little kid grow up into someone capable of saving the world, and I think that is just beautiful. We watch him come into his own sort of groove, find out who he is and who he really cares about, what he stands for. It's just really beautiful and very personal to me. I've always loved this song, but in a sense I think it encapsulates the "journey" of Tamalnh, and my own personal journey over the last few years. Except I have far less friends than Taka, and I am nowhere near as happy as he is.
Beriyl:
Aaagh, honestly Beriyl is a tie up between Fightsong - Eve and Yumemigusa by BLUE ENCOUNT
Beriyl's story and him as a person I feel like both of these songs fit him pretty well. His is a story much darker than Taka's, because he's practically a survivor of childhood neglect. For fear of spoiling too much, I really don't know how to explain this without doing so, but Beriyl's story of overcoming self-worth issues, figuring out who he really is and what truly matters to him, and standing up for those things, is one that I think is really beautiful.
Beriyl is an immensely strong person, even if maybe that isn't readily apparent for the first, oh... two hundred pages of the book.
Arthur:
ROAR by ulma sound junction
This lyric in particular; "Where destiny gets robbed and torn in half,"
He lost everything at a very young age, struggled with severe, suicidal depression for many, many years. And he nearly did do it. In a way, he lost his future, then clawed it back into reality with his own two hands, fully intending to die all the while. He may never be able to fulfill that lost childhood dream of adventuring with Rend, he may have lost his family and village, but he found Taka and Beriyl. And they saved him, from himself, in a way.
Ecirr and Qlul:
PRIDE OF A NAMELESS HUNTER - Tadayoshi Makino
Ecirr to me, embodies the "grace" and "refinement" that Qlul doesn't really have. Qlul is the warmth and energy, the relaxed and "silly" side of the coin here, whereas Ecirr is the calm, cool, "serious" side.
Now, for some reason, I don't have a playlist for Qlul. But I do have a theme I feel fits both of them very much so.
L no Theme B - Hideki Taniuchi
Here's one more that resembles them :')
ok fine one more (feels fitting for book 2's tone)
AGHH ALSO BOOK 2 THEMING
Ecirr is really smart, and Qlul's not stupid. This song (L's Theme) to me feels like when they combine their only visible braincells and actually pull off something cool.
Eirairr:
Man, Eirairr is hard to summarize in a single song. He's such a chaotic person.
The enigma of an elf, the Eirairr-ness of... Eirairr.
Here's a few: Kannon by Kita Kouhei
Blue Moon by LiSA
Tyottohitoiki
At his core, he's a good person. He cares about his friends and has an unfathomably great love for life itself. He's also a very tragic figure, as being born as a Pactborn-Elf means that, no matter how long he lived inside that Realm as an immortal being, once outside he's only got a hundred years. Can you imagine how short a hundred years would feel to someone who's lived that long?
Eirairr himself says something to this extent; and yes, this IS a pretty big spoiler, but its necessary to really get my point across.
Some context: A very long time ago, there was a period where Fae were very active, and several curses were placed on various people/parts of the world back then. One of these was locking several "clans" of elves into permanent deification as "guardians" of elements of the world, hence "Pactborn" elves. So you have "pacted" elves of the mountains, seas, forests, etc. They basically exist in a plane that is one "layer" above the physical dimension, which intersects with the Fae realm. They can't leave their "assigned areas", and if they do, they are cursed to die in a hundred years.
(the relative timespan of a human, basically.)
Eirairr was born into that, lived for a very long time, and then decided to leave. When he left, as part of the Curse, he was given knowledge of the modern world, clothes and a weapon, and basically told; "Good luck."
alright that's all from me :D did lots of tumblr today, lots of writing, very productive day today :DDDD and i have work tomorrow aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not excited
ok bye
