I just realized something. In one of the episodes surrounding the wedding (I think it might’ve been 15 but also could’ve been 14), Gricko specifically mentioned inviting Pa Coal, and then was surprised and upset when Gideon told him that his Pa was dead.

I find this interesting because this insinuates 2 things.

1) Gideon mentioned his Pa enough for Gricko to know about him—even though Gideon failed to mention his Pa’s death (though I can’t blame him too much for that. I imagine he doesn’t like to bring up his Pa often in general)

2) Gricko didn’t mention a Ma Coal, and Gideon never mentions his mother later on down the line. So I’m guessing that, probably early on, Gricko probably asked Gideon about his mother at some point, and Gideon probably told him that he either never met her or he was too young to really remember her.

This is literally nothing, but I found it interesting all the same
