in an interview eric bogosian suggested something along the lines of "daniel looking back in time with vampire powers and seeing himself with one of his wives" and i had this thought... this concept...

daniel getting a really vivid flashback or vision of the day he first proposed to alice, just like the dream he had of polynesian mary's, or maybe it's more like he's actually there and watching it all go down in front of him. daniel and alice are sitting at a table. she's pregnant. younger daniel's getting a ring out, and older daniel is bracing for the pain of that rejection to come flooding back all over again.

he shows alice the ring and asks her to marry him. but instead of the expected "no", alice just sighs and says "yeah, sure, whatever." all of a sudden it hits him— he thought when that happened, it was during the second attempt, but it wasn't. this is when daniel asked alice to marry him for the first time, the only time, and that's what she said. this is how it happened. were they even in paris? why does it suddenly feel like he doesn't care enough to remember if they were in paris or not? they leave without ordering any dessert. when did he eat that strawberry dish?

and more fucking importantly just who the hell WAS it that he knows he asked? who was it that said no? who wanted to say yes but hadn't been given a reason to trust him, if it wasn't alice?

#and to add to this. i feel like alice saying no isnt in his memoir at all #the strawberry dessert is an offhanded comment #so not linked to the proposal in the book -> he has to tell louis that he had it after proposing to alice #and louis has to drag “she said no” out of daniel to hurt him #he wouldnt have to do that if he put in his book #i dont think anyway #so... an extra layer to this concept maybe #iwtv #daniel molloy
