I dont talk much about minecraft youtuber drama here but god quackity is pissing me off with his shenanigans.

In case you missed it admins for quackitys minecraft server (specifically an admin named lea) came forth claiming that the admins were underpaid if paid, were working horrible hours, and generally treated like shit. This is of course paraphrasing but this is worker exploitation and disgusting.

Quackity then did a little stream saying he was “unaware” of anything wrong happening behind the scenes. Which is interesting considering this is his “passion project” and the studio is under his name and hes the one who hired everyone.

Then recently Lea (i apologize if im spelling her name wrong she is french if i recall) did an interview saying that quackity was basically lying, the ndas he had the admins signed were fake, and reiterated the horrible working conditions and the fact he knew everything.

Then today he streamed again saying he was stepping back because of the hate and threats we was receiving which of course is never okay but this is the first time he’s ever spoken on that subject (which is interesting as his twt fandom is known for being incredibly hateful and threatening people) and he was stepping back from the server. Again this is a simplified version, just hitting the major points of everything.

this is not accountability, this is him making someone else fix what hes done. He wont even openly admit to everything but his silence shows everything. What he has done to his workers is horrible and incredibly wrong but the majority of his fans dont care and are upset at dream stans of all people for “making him step back” (dream stans havent even been the main group doing this shit btw. they are just the group pointing out the hypocrisy the most as dream fans have received copious amounts of hate from qsmpers for the fact they like dream. Let it be clear that the allegations against dream have been proven false and as of me writing this post he has not done anything genuinely bad. like exploiting his workers)

Regardless of who you stan or hate, you have to realize that what quackity has done with his server and the admins is wrong and he should take accountability and discuss what hes done wrong. hes was/is a law student for heavens sake. This is only the tip of the iceberg of questionable things quackity has done (for example his merch company is extremely shady. there is very little information available about it online, people have trouble with shipping and receiving their orders, merch quality, and much more) and it saddens me that while the mcyt community preaches accountability and recognizing when a cc has done wrong, they fail to do it 99% of the time. I dont hate quackity, and i dont want him to get doxxed and receive death threats, but i need him to be transparent. To admit to his mistakes and be honest and actually change shit. Because right now him stepping back isnt fixing anything, its not helping the people who have been hurt by his actions. Im also really sad that the qsmp has been riddled with these mistakes as theres so much potential with it. It was the first bilingual minecraft server then multilingual. it united so many different parts of the minecraft community but it is not stable, its not going to last at this rate and thats so sad. Qsmp seems to just be a money maker for its creators, every part of it meticulous planned to see what will bring in the most views (as well as its the first server i have personally seen have a merch store? i wonder if the admins that play the characters are getting any of that money…)

Anyway, i just wanted to say my piece on it after ive been apart of the minecraft youtuber fan community for a long time and have seen a lot of shit :/ just a psa if your first reaction to this post is to get all upset in my comments i will block you. I do however appreciate genuine comments on the situation, as a fan or not of quackity. Worker exploitation is never okay but most of everything else is just how i see the situation.

I am not making fun or trying to make the fact quackity is getting harassed less important. Doxxing and threats are never okay, and even if i dislike him i dont wish that on him. I am only disappointed that it took to this point for him to say something. Of course he couldve been planning something but he never explicitly said so so lots of people, me included, weren’t sure if he was going to ignore it as he does have a track record of not saying anything unless forced. As well as hes never condemned his fans for the fandoms habit of doxxing and harassment. Ofc Q cant control his fandom, but openly saying “hey stop doing that. i dont want yall to do that” would be nice. I thankfully have never experienced it but i had twt moots who got doxxed by qsmp fans and thats why i said i wish he had said something earlier. But i am not trying to take away how severe the fact hes getting doxxed is. Just wanted to make that clear👍🏻 Dont fucking dox or harass people, be critical but dont be horrible people.

capstone update #1

TO REITERATE: I'm planning to produce a 30-min documentary film.

Hello, I'm finally here to update my blog! I meant to do this last week, but didn't... I was struggling to wrap my head around this project and what I'll be doing this semester.

I think I'm a little crazy for taking this on. Sometimes it feels like too much, but I certainly won't be quitting.

My first reality check was trying to populate the workback plan. It was a necessary step, but so difficult. I had to come back to it a few times to get it sorted out. I always feel like I'm overlooking something when I'm planning out a project, and I've never tried to produce something of this magnitude before. But I sat down with my workback plan again tonight and finally have it in good shape. Coming back to it has helped me process what I'll need to do, and I feel pretty certain now that I'm not forgetting anything. I also recreated my workback plan in Notion, because I don't think I'll be able to stay on track if I only look at it on Google Sheets. (The formatting... the lack of color-coding and other viewing modes... Nah, homie, I can't. TwT) I also gave myself dates to complete things by. I know I can work to a deadline, and now I have a ton of them. Isn't that fantastic!

Anyway, I'm really happy with my organization on this project now that I have all my tasks thought out, written down, and with dates. The tricky part now will be keeping the Google Sheet updated according to the Notion.

Right now I have a bunch of tasks marked as "in progress." There's so much I need to do in the next two weeks, mostly making lists of people and Instagram accounts to reach out to. I already follow a lot of accounts but I have not created a master list for myself to keep track of them all. Once I have my list, I can start drafting up messages to send to them, asking if they might want to participate in my doc, or could put me in connection with people who would. I'm kind of worried that I don't have much to show for myself, a presence, or a reason why they should trust me, that kind of thing. But I'll try it anyway.

I also need to draft emails/ send texts/ make phone calls to people I know, who said in one way or another that they might be able to lend a voice to my project. Cast out a bunch of lines and see if I get any bites. 🎣

Another thing is, I want to find videos on YouTube and Vimeo of the ʻOnipaʻa Peace March that happened a couple weeks ago. I wasn't able to go myself, but I'd really like to incorporate footage of it into my film. Maybe someone would be willing to let me use a few of their shots. If not a person, maybe one of the local news outlets. I also need to do some research. I have a playlist of some news clips about the Red Hill water crisis from when I made my 5-minute piece about it in Fall '22. But there have been updates since then, and I need to collect even more. I'm not 100% sure what or how much I'll do with it yet. But my creative process is 'collect all the stuff, look at and absorb it all, ???, get vision, create the vision'... so step one is gathering more things. :)

Also want to find more PDFs. Last semester, I found some studies and national news articles about Red Hill, pollution by the Navy/ issues similar to what's happening here, but my research topic was persuasion, so I spent the vast majority of my time on that. There's definitely more out there, and I want to find it because I'm thinking of using scans/ screenshots in my film.

Oh, and I'm planning to request titles from ʻUluʻulu by 2.16. Gonna try my absolute best to stay on top of the deadlines I've set for myself. LONG POST: FINITO!!!

haven @bookinit02 OK. you all have heard me gush about haven a million and one times on this blog and i’m sure you’ve seen her gush about me because she’s (rightfully) obsessed with me (/j. kind of) but haven was the first friend i ever made in the byler community which is so so beyond insane to me. i fell in love with her writing so instantaneously and you guys should’ve been there to see my reaction when i saw her leave her first comment on my fic. literally screamed it was so embarrassing 😭 we talked exclusively through ao3 comments for a while because she’d yell every time i updated ihcisc and i’d yell every time she updated her season 2 rewrite and then one day she dm’d me asking me to make a twt to add me to a byler gc and the rest was History. anyways haven is one of the most talented most creative people i’ve ever met BUT she’s also one of the sweetest and most compassionate people on the face of this planet and deserves nothing but good things always ! she’s one of those people that i need to talk to every day or i’ll go insane and i love how our convos can speedrun the entire human spectrum of emotions within like. 5 minutes. she’s so incredibly supportive and my #1 hype girl and she has the freaky ability to entirely turn my mood around on a bad day in less than 20 seconds. she literally managed to sleuth around and find my venmo just to send me soup money. if i could buy her Everything then i literally would. i would eat cilantro for her. i would watch the mlvn makeout scene for her. i would get my socks wet for her. literally i would do anything for her and i can’t wait until i see her in june and i chase her in circles around the airport and then we kiss👩🏼‍❤️‍💋‍👩🏽 and we Hug so tight and platonically 🫂

keeping up with the svteenies really is tough work because they're always so busy! it took me a bit to learn how to properly keep track of everything too 😭 there are a few svt update blogs (such as fy-wonwoo, gyunetwork, lesbiancarat, letter-0526) on here, but they're mostly dedicated to one member </3 but twitter's a very good place (the go-to actually) if you're looking for info! this one especially just gives u a thread for all their activities of the day. it's a v convenient method, and they are usually able to post almost all (if not all) of the things svt have done for that day. other than 17's official twitter account, u can also look into their weverse community as many announcements are also made on the platform (links are often reiterated on the twt acc though). u should also watch out for svt's other official accounts (which i've linked on dinonetwork heheh)! but aside from these, fan communities (such as 1, 2) are also a really big help w keeping up w the svteenies. given all that, i've found that the easiest way u can keep track (if you really want to know Everything) is just to make a discord channel with updates from all of those feeds lmfao 😭 you don't really have to do that, and i think svtcontents on twt pretty much covers everything already, but i used to run an update blog for them too so <3 hehehe

This thing you've just repeated here on my post is an antisemitic conspiracy theory, and I'm not gonna let it fly. Here's what's actually going on

Guz Khan got fired between seasons and was adamant on Twitter that he did not know why, but that this was sometimes how the industry worked.

Some people on Twitter with no evidence started speculating that Taika Waititi specifically, ie the Jewish EP, fired him for his support of Palestine. I have heard a vicious rumor that Guz Khan quietly blocked the first person to say it on twt and they admitted that he blocked them but still believe the conspiracy they invented.

In season 2, and I'm sorry for the spoilers but it is relevant and you have already been spoiled by this post so I'll just say it, Khan's shoes were more or less filled by a Kiwi local with less international recognition (i.e. someone who costs less). Ewen Bremner's contract was only renewed for the first four episodes after which his character, Buttons, was written off in a reversible way if they wanted him back for season 3. Nat Faxon's character, the Swede, was married off to Spanish Jackie, similarly cutting down the screen time they had to pay his actor for to 3 episodes. It was revealed after season wrapped that HBO max had slashed Our Flag Means Deaths budget by 40%. Which heavily implies that Ivan was experiencing the first hired first fired effect as the most minor member of Blackbeard's named crew.

Nathan Foad who is still on the cast has vocally supported ending the occupation of Palestine and his career is unaffected.

Guz Khan was vocal in his support for Palestine looooooooong before he was hired onto OFMD and Taika Waititi was an EP on there the whole fucking time, and yet Khan still got the role of Ivan, which didn't have to happen.

Taika Waititi signed a shitty letter which was not great but also emphatically does not say what you think it says.* So we don't actually know his real position on the conflict we just know that he's Celebrity DumbTM and jewish, which is apparently enough for some people to take this little unconfirmed conspiracy that doesn't hold up to Occam's razor and run with it.

This one doesn't really debunk anything but it's worth saying here, for nothing but there is one crew member who has vocally supported Israel on his (now deleted for racism) twitter: Con O'Neill, who is not jewish, but for some reason Taika Waititi, who is jewish, is taking all the heat from OFMD fans as this becomes a hot button issue. I bring that up because if you wanted to get after Zionism as it relates to OFMD you could criticize Con, you don't have to make a whole conspiracy theory. Everyone just continues stanning and then drags the most prominent Jewish guy in the cast and crew for something that really seems like it's a budget issue. I'm not happy that Ivan is gone, I disagree with Taika Waititi on a lot of shit. I don't think that's any excuse for antisemitism.

All of that being said the person who left these tags probably didn't know what they were reiterating, owing to the fact that a lot of fucking antisemites like to repeat this conspiracy confidently as a fact without front loading the fact that they're antisemitic, and then people pick it up and repeat it because it's the internet and fact checking is an endangered species. The savvier ones will take Waititi's name out of it all together so that it sounds more legit. I did initially cop to the savvier version of this conspiracy theory until an anon said "they're using this to be antisemitic" and then I bothered to look into it and found no evidence for it. Then the answer was revealed to me when they cut Faxon and Bremner's screen time and had to do two fewer episodes due to budget concerns. Don't fall for it they do this shit for every Jew more famous than a YouTuber with a morphie code.

also since i ran out of space — 5th on my top fancams list is tough. prolly between bowie captaincy narrative vs beezer ice baby. the beezer cut has good timing & (partially outside of my control but) Really Nice Clips in terms of like videography/visual aesthetic. captain bo tho also had good timing (still feel clever for syncing the count-off to the bouncy balls) + i love a narrative + the range of clips i got & how i synced them to lyrics was Really Satisfying. ((side note: it’s a shame i have like 2.5 canucks twt connections bc i think those fancams could actually reach more But i just do not like the secondary teams of most canucks twt ppl so i have few canucks mutuals and Zero traction on canucks twt. somehow it was Super Easy for to find flyers twt friends tho. this is funny to me bc my hockeyblr experience is basically the inverse — solid canucksblr connections, maybe 3.5 flyersblr friends + a conciliatory cornchip))

i picked up video editing/fancamming late july 2020 when i was on hockey hiatus & had deep-dived japanese pro wrestling (the pandemic has been A Ride). i saw ppl making fancams for american pro wrestling & hockey & figured ‘this is a niche i could have fun with’ and just Did That for like 6 months. that’s how i finally got twitter in late november 2020, bc i wanted to share my fancams & bc the japanese pro-wrestling fandom is barely limping along on tumblr. around february 2021 i had a lot of really shitty stuff happening irl & i slowly went silent on all social media until like august/july when i reappeared here on hockeyblr. i missed hockey & i had burnt out on wrestling (deeply toxic twitter fandoms + semi-traumatic familial stress can really kill a whole hyperfixation boy howdy. and i Know a lot of twitter fandom is baseline hellscape anyway but wrestle twitter is A Nightmare. -5mil/10 would Never recommend. wrestling is a Fascinating media form. its fans are Demented.)

Anyway, first hockey fancam i made was the eichs one bc I Am Not Immune To A Narrative (anyone who reads all my tags is prolly tired of me using this word. what does ‘narrative’ mean anymore? it means i connected some dots & had feelings about it. and if the dots i connected don’t actually mean shit well let me be). body autonomy!! in sports!! one of the notoriously most vicious bitchy & vocal characters in pro hockey!! thinly veiled legal threats via pr statements!! the vilification of billionaire owners & corporations!! How Could I Resist? i couldn’t. the narrative needed a neat lil video with funky lil music. so jack got his trade and i hopped back in the fancam saddle.

canucks were playing tragic and flyers were kinda waffling. there wasn’t anything fun for me to mash together Yet. then of course, we started december with bruce and that when the spark caught fire hallelujah i had something Good to fancam. bc as i keep reiterating — my heart is in a good narrative. give me something i can interpret as a story and i will find feelings to have about it, whether by opining on this lil blog or making a fancam or both. i’ve done a lot of both.

so the canucks do their lil streak, i get lots of inspiration for fancams and it oils the gears so i start getting more ideas and making all of them and now here we are. i’m also back on twitter but hockey this time, bc i inevitably went trawling for clips + news & felt the incurable itch to share my lil opinions & make friends. it’s been a little over a month and i have made 9 individual player cams + 8 wincams + the flyers captain narrative sadcam + 1 very rough goalie sadcam. that is 19 videos over 40 days, ie about a video every other day. good god. (as a reminder to myself: at my peak of wrestle fandom, i was averaging 1 video a week. i was Much Slower then but also so hypercritical that it took me ages to have confidence to say i considered anything done enough to share. also wrestle footage is harder to find to be fair. i haven’t yet had to record & pull from a hockey livestream like i had to with wrestling bc hockey twt works faster than i could to clip anyway. i may start pulling my own clips from raw tho if i’m looking for something specific.)

okay!! so in conclusion: oh my god i make so much stuff now. and i’m happy with the stuff i make for the most part. and i’m continuing to learn & develop skills from it & honing those skills. i deserve to feel pretty cool about this. this hobby in a hobby i’ve been doing for the past year and a half is like interesting and rewarding. okay.
