hi! i am also from brazil but i will ask in english so your followers can hopefully see. i used to roleplay on twitter and twitter only, but it's been banned so i came here. i really miss roleplaying and have a lot of muse but I don't know how it works. i made a promo and everything but I don't know who to follow or what the etiquette is. could you maybe help me? if not, that's okay too. 🥹🩷 obrigada!
hi love! i've been gone from rping for a good ... two years now, maybe ?? personally i'd recommend you join a group from the appless rp tag if you're just coming back, it might be less daunting and easier to grasp the etiquette and how to do things than making an indie blog right off the bat. with a group, you have the main's rules to guide you a little bit but the process itself is quite basic: you apply with your muse, make the character's blog and then once you're accepted you just follow the people on the blogroll and make a post introducing yourself and your muse! i feel like nowadays things are a lot chiller than they were in the past, i keep seeing people doing their own thing a lot, using their own personal aesthetics and there's not a lot of those harsh aesthetics etiquette there were in the past were people would outright refuse to write with you if you didn't follow the trends. also you absolutely need the xkit extension (the xkit rewritten version, i think there are some tutorials on how to use them in the rph tag), otherwise it'll be a lot harder to write because the staff hates us. and idk if you have discord but i feel like that's also a must, since a lot of people prefer to plot over there and most groups have occ discord servers where you can meet the other players. if you have any specific questions on the process, pls let me know!

If you could give a single piece of advice to new people in the roleplay community, what would it be?
i see you've sent this to a few others nonny : twiliae's post is v good & so is puxrlunae's . i haven't seen others on my dash at the time of writing ( tho i can guess other ppl have been asked but idk lol ) but imma try not to duplicate what they said but / shrug
i'd recommend learning when you do need to stay in your own lane & have some critical thinking . don't push yourself into drama cause the rpc says you just have to stay informed & don't believe everything you see . i've seen a callout where they screamed that the person the callout was about was transphobic cause they used the wrong pronoun for a muse ..........in a whole roleplay where they than used the correct pronoun & it was simply a mistype in one or two places . but the callout post highlighted the wrong pronoun use to make sure you believed them & not the would-be offender & people are quick to the gun . this wasn't in the zelda rpc nor any connected one & was years ago so i don't remember anything beyond it was so shitty to bend the truth . like maybe english was their second language so they got confused or forgot or maybe someone writes the same muse with different pronouns ?? idk
sometimes it's better to just turn around & go back to writing ur little doll kissing ur friends doll lol
this is why my rules states this :
i do read the callout posts but i reserve the right to my own opinion that may differ from yours . please do not come to me if someone i am writing with has a callout post unless they have done something illegal ( child grooming , abuse , major harm , ect )
it's not so much my own opinion in the way of " oh i don't think what they did was wrong ✨ " & more of " does this callout have any weight ? " & sometimes i find that no , no it does not .
beyond that idk ... write for urself , be nice to others . you don't have to have fancy graphics to special formatting you just need to follow common courtesy . you want fun questions & starters you gotta also send them to others . tag ur triggers . don't reblog threads if they aren't for you & enjoy your time here because its a hobby !! don't stress if you feel like your writing isn't the best ⸺ you will only improve the more you write & soon you'll find yourself writing some really sexy threads with amazing friends <;3
also !!!!! you can find resource blogs that have posts about what you need to know or what might be helpful if you're super new & find xkit weird ( i had such a hard time figuring out xkit vs new xkit vs xkit rewritten omg but resource blogs helped a lot ) or don't get what reblog karma is or other little things like that . some even have templates for free or good prices ! i'll list a few that i follow & use still :
poohsources , rpclefairy , soulrph , & plenty more are here ! just search some tags like rp resources , rph , carrd templates , ect ! you're bound to find the help ur looking for !
anyway this isn't a single thing !!!!!!! i just went off !!!!! i event trimmed some of the advice cause it was repeating what other ppl said but oops lol hope this helps !!!
#⸻ OOC : answered ✦ im going by the seat of my pants ˎˊ˗#( idk if ur new or this was like ..... a thought experiment ?? but eh it might help someone lol )

PREFERRED NAME — nora. i think i started going by it in like, 2009?? my full name is eleanor but i hated it n thought it was way too pretentious n i never felt like it fitted me so when i started writing on forums i decided i’d be a nora rather than eleanor and then my school friends called me it and it just kinda stuck, the only person who calls me eleanor is my mum
PRONOUNS — she / her / ethereal being beyond comprehension
AGE — 23 but i tell everyone im 21 because even tho time is literally fake im desperately clinging to that fleeting thing we call youth trying to catch it like smoke in my hands
PINTEREST — i actually have two. this one is my main one where i just cram all my shit n i’ve had it for years and some of its super unorganised. then i also have this one which is one i made for exclusively female characters. it started as mythological figures but now its like, women in literature and the occasional oc as well. variety is the spice of life!
DISCORD — lindsay lohan’s meth#8664
TUMBLR (PERSONAL/MUSE/RPH) — i used to be froseths but now im pvrscphones cos ya gal is a fucking whore for mythology

WHAT YEAR WAS IT? — like 9 years ago?? 2010 maybs
NAME A RANDOM ROLEPLAY THAT STICKS OUT IN YOUR MEMORY — me n my friend ellie made this really cool group the summer before we left for uni which was loosely based on a concept mentioned mayb once in the divergent series, but it gave us loads of freedom to make it our own thing. it was called the fringe n it was like..... this dystopian society where people with different genes were cut off from the rest of society n lived in overrun slum cities where different groups had like, a monopoly over weapons, produce, etc.... my character jack was the leader of this lost-boy-esque tribe called the wolf pack who were hunters n used to run across the rooftops wearing the skins of animals they’d killed and engage in tribal rituals with sacrifices to the gods n shit. sounds lame but everyone there was so invested in their character arcs that it was a shame to see it go. but ! it kind of reached its end point so we blew it up w nukes n they all died. tragic.
WHAT WEIRD ANIMAL WOULD YOU HAVE AS A PET IF IT WAS REALISTIC — a fox?? do ppl keep foxes? idk i’ve always just felt a sense of connection w them like when a fox stares at me im like this shit is life i am living and breathing in this bitch.... visceral

FAVOURITE QUOTE — cool girl speech from gone girl. but also “there’s something dangerous about the boredom of teenage girls” i know its like.... such an overused quote but it really encapsulates this kind of feral girlhood that a few of my characters like bridget n greta have tapped into. i also loved the line “i feel like i could eat the world raw” from song of achilles, that really captures this kind of.... pure n childlike enthusiasm tht i wanna achieve w rory
LINK TO A VINE THAT EXUDES YOUR ‘ENERGY’ — this is my energy completely am always covered in glitter n staring broodily out of the windows of ubers at 4am like im in the sad bit of an indie film
DO YOU WRITE OUTSIDE OF RP? WHAT DO YOU WRITE? — uhh.... not as much as i shd.... i want to be a writer so i shd be makin some effort to get my stuff Out Into The World but im just not.... lol. ive done a lot of poetry collections . i wnt to finish a novel @ some point too.
THREE YOUTUBERS YOU STILL TRUST — bold of you to assume i trust any youtubers

EVER MEET A CELEBRITY? SHARE YOUR STORY — i once high-fived dani harmer, the actress who played tracy beaker. today my sister text me tryin to make me guess what celebrity she just saw on holiday in wales and for ages she let me think it was timmothee but it was actually bradley walsh from the chase :/
WHAT’S YOUR PICTURE-PERFECT NIGHT? — i am in a bomb ass crop top and mini skirt, several scrunchies in my hair, glitter all over my face, wearing cowboy boots. we eat dinner in a trendy but affordable pub that doubles up as a cocktail bar n then we drink zombies or sex on the beaches n go to a rave where everyone is on the same wavelength n i share drugs with girls in the toilets and we swap numbers knowing we will never text each other but its ok bc in that moment we feel like we are soulmates and everyone is super drunk n touching everyone else n its all very visceral and we walk through the woods when the rave ends and lie in the grass because we wish to suck out all the marrow of life
A CONSPIRACY THEORY YOU KINDA BELIEVE IN — princess diana was murdered
ARE ALIENS REAL? — maybe the real aliens are the friends we made along the way
PLAY ANY PHONE GAMES? WHICH ONES? — love island game im addicted and way too invested in my fictional relationship with bobby, a cartoon
WHAT’S A FILM YOU LOVED WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG AND RECENTLY WATCHED, ONLY TO FIND OUT YOU DON’T ANYMORE — bold of u to assume i remember my childhood. but if we’re talking last 10 years angust, thongs n perfect snogging is so so cringe

Hey Liss, I really want to start a small horror group rp but I never ever done one on Tumblr and I'm scared of messing up. Could you give me some advice? Is running a group rp on tumblr too stressful?
First of all, I’m so sorry for the late reply!
The biggest factor in how challenging it will be to run a group is how much time you have to put into it. That’s not to say that if you go to school or work full-time you can’t run one, but if you don’t have much time to commit to being online, it can be a lot to handle. That said, it’s incredibly rewarding to watch a roleplay thrive!
The two most important parts of your group are going to be your plot and your graphics. I wish the second wasn’t the case, but how your roleplay (and your promo graphic) looks is a huge deal when it comes to drawing people in. Roleplays with ‘basic’ graphics, sadly, often find it difficult to gain any traction in the community. If you’re not great with graphics, you may want to consider getting a co-admin who is, or contacting RPHs who do those types of services. That said, a solid plot or location is what will make people stay. Your roleplay will need to be either plot-driven or character-driven. A plot-driven roleplay is going to be harder to keep up with, as you’ll have to provide lots of events and plot drops to keep the ball rolling. Character-driven roleplays can often take a little longer to set up, as you really want to make your location come to life by providing a history and places around town for people to set their interactions, but require less upkeep as the members create their own plots. For a horror group, chances are it’s going to be a little more plot-driven.
Setting up your blog can be one of the more stressful parts of running your own group. You want to make sure everything looks good, all of the writing is error-free, and the page is properly organized so viewers can find what they’re looking for. Below is a list of important pages your page should include and my advice for them.
NAVIGATION: It’s very, very important that your navigation be properly laid out. People aren’t going to want to join a roleplay if they can’t easily find everything they need to do so. Most roleplays divide their navigation into two sections–before applying and after acceptance. The first should include your plot, rules, characters, taken/banned face claims, wanted connections, and application. It should also include any other information you’d want people to know going into it, like locations around your town. The second should include your checklist, blogroll, trigger list, and OOC masterlist.
PLOT: This should be at the top of your navigation page and, ideally, directly linked from your home page. It shouldn’t be too long or too short, just a few paragraphs. Your paragraphs also shouldn’t be too lengthy–large blocks of text can turn people away.
RULES: The most important rules are as follows. Activity–most roleplays have an activity limit of 5 or 6 days. This allows members to balance RP with real life while still preventing too much inactivity on the dash. Characters–the number of characters you can have, the age requirements for characters/face claims if you have one, and whether characters can be on a multi-muse account or should have separate blogs. Drama/inclusivity–there should always be a zero tolerance policy for OOC drama, and rules in place to promote inclusivity such as requiring that members reply to at least 3 starters before posting their own.
CHARACTERS: This is where keeping up with a roleplay can start to get tricky. There are two types of RPs you may choose to go with–bio or appless. If it’s a bio roleplay, you need to make a graphic for and post the biography of every character. If it’s appless, you need to make sure that each time you get a new character, you update your character page. Either way, you’ll also need to keep on top of your taken face claims page. Many admins choose not to post a bio or add a character to their page until they’ve received the account for that character.
WANTED CONNECTIONS: This isn’t required, per se, but can inspire more people to join your roleplay. You should have a form for your members to fill out, and they’ll send in their wanted connections. That’s another thing to keep up with–you’ll have to put all of these on your WC page as well as remove taken connections, or edit connections that have 1 out of 2 or more muses taken (think bandmates, or multiple siblings).
APPLICATION: Your application should include, at the very least, the character’s name, age, gender AND pronouns, and face claim. Most choose to add positive and negative personality traits to their app. If it’s a bio roleplay, you’ll need to request a biography, either by simply stating ‘bio here’, or by dividing it up into sections. For instance, you can split it up into background, present, and personality, and include a paragraph or word requirement for each section if you’d like.
CHECKLIST: This should be the first thing in your ‘after acceptance’ section and should include everything your new member has to do after being accepted. This should include getting their account in within 24 hours, following everyone on the blogroll, tracking your tags, looking at your trigger list and sending in any triggers they’d like added, sending in wanted connections, asking for the OOC blog/Discord link, posting an intro for their character, and finally posting their first interaction. Speaking of tags to track–yours should include tags for character intros, starters, events, tasks, admin notes, and new blogs to follow.
TRIGGER LIST: Some basic triggers you should include: sexual assault, suicide/self-harm, eating disorders, blood, drugs, death, abortion, violence. You should also ask that your members send in any personal triggers that they’d like added, and this should always always always be kept confidential.
OOC MASTERLIST: You may choose to only include OOC information on your character page, but an OOC masterlist can be helpful when it comes to plotting. This lists each member’s name and which characters they play, and often includes other OOC info such as age, timezone, and pronouns. This way when plotting with someone, members can immediately see all of the characters the person they’re plotting with plays.
As mentioned before, graphics and theme are also very important. Your theme should be neat, organized, but ‘pretty’. Almost all themes are going to involve at least one graphic. The color scheme of your graphic(s) should closely match that of your theme so that everything looks coherent. If there’s more than one graphic, they should look nice together without being repeats of each other. You’ll also need to create a promo graphic to post in the tags. Note that you should create a sideblog to post your promo graphics, rather than flooding your main page with them. Your promo doesn’t have to look quite as similar as the others, since they won’t be shown side-by-side, but should still give off the same ‘vibe’. You’ll want to make sure to double-check all of the writing on your page for errors, click on all of your links to see that they’re working properly, and go through your navigation from the point of view of a potential member.
The next part is being a good admin. You should be able to get on almost every single day, even just for long enough to post something in the tags and empty your inbox. Admin activity is crucial to group activity. As soon as members see the activity of the main die down, they start to decline in activity or find other groups.
There are three key elements to promoting your roleplay. The first is through your promo sideblog and promo graphics. You should be posting these often enough that they regularly show up in the tags without being too overbearing. You’ll have to check the tags you choose and use some trial and error to figure out how often that is. {Remember that your post will only show up in the first five tags you put down.) The second is posts on your main. You can let viewers know a little about your roleplay, let them know you’re going to be around for a while, or just include a tidbit about your day. The same rules apply for how often to post these as with your promo graphics. The third element is requesting shoutouts from RPHs. This gets your RP back into the tags without having to put yet another post on the main, as well as gets news of your RP around the RPH community. Remember to always read the RPH’s rules, be polite (please and thank you), and use their name if it’s on the blog. You only have a certain amount of characters for your shoutouts, so make them count. Keeping on top of all three of these things can be difficult, but is incredibly important to running a successful roleplay. You need to make sure you have time to do this on top of your other admin duties. I’ve always found it easiest to take care of all of my other admin things first, then dedicate a chunk of time solely to promotion.
Keeping the main up-to-date is one of the most important things you’ll have to do. This includes your character page/biographies, taken face claims list, triggers list, wanted connections, OOC masterlist, and one more thing we haven’t mentioned yet. Something Tumblr has been doing lately is eating posts in the tags. That means even though you have a tag dedicated to your group’s starters, most of them won’t show up in the tag. As an admin, it’s your responsibility to keep track of all of the starters in your group and get them out to your members another way. Some groups choose to compile a list on their page, while others choose to creat a sideblog and reblog all of the starters there. Either way, this is very, very important to making sure all of your members are included. As an admin, I prefer to take things one ask at a time. New account comes in? Post the follow, add the character, add the face claim, onto the next one. Wanted connection? Put it on the WC page, post a new wanted connection on the main, onto the next one. I find that this makes it easier to keep track of everything than getting everything out of the inbox and then trying to go back through it all.
Because there’s so much to do, you may want to consider getting one or more co-admins to help you. At least to me, it seems like most RPs have around 3 admins. It is possible to run one yourself, but you can always try on your own and ask for co-admins if you’re having trouble. You want to make sure you stay on good terms with your co-admins and consult them about updates, events, and plot drops.
Speaking of events and plot drops, that’s another thing you’ll have to take care of. Plot drops and events keep the RP alive, and if you find that the RP’s activity is a little low, something like that can help. You don’t have to do it super often, but a few days every month or so dedicated to an event can be really fun. With a horror RP, you may also want to have plot drops here and there.
You’ll also have to deal with any problems that arise in your RP. If someone comes to you with a concern about another member, you’ll have to use your critical thinking and problem-solving skills to determine exactly what’s going on and what action you should take. If you notice that someone is only writing with one or two other people, you’ll need to address it to them directly. This part can definitely be stressful and nerve-wracking, but it’s an important part of being an admin.
One way to see how you can improve your RP is to ask RPHs for their opinions. The trick is you actually have to listen to them. If you’re repeatedly being told that your graphics need work, consider getting some help with them. If they point out a broken link or typo, you’ll need to fix it. Another way to improve is to check out other RPs! You definitely should not lift anything directly from another RP, but it can help you get a feel for how everything should be set up and what types of themes and graphics are ‘in’ right now.
I’m going to end this with a link to this amazing masterlist from rpthemehelper that includes multiple posts on every topic you could need help with. I’m sorry that this was probably way more than you were expecting to read, but I hope it helped some!

all of the things in the "get to know the role-player" meme!
*The ones I didn’t answer already*
◜ get to know the rp & rph mun ◇ ask memes ◞
{ ⊽ } —- link some of your favorite partners!: Well I adore all my partners, pretty much a lot of people but- @prxtty-muses @hauntedmediium @pulchrousati @sevendeadlymusings @cateyeswarlock @herfragilewarrior @poisonpunkking like there’s more but top of my head. (Plus some of yall write a few common muses, so I try to remember who is what url/the urls and its that multimuse life, love you all in general) { ⊾ } —- favorite rp memory?: Mmm hard to pick. I’ve got a good collection. *despite the big collection of trashy ones* I do really miss the days where out of nowhere I was the inbox for people like ‘hey how do I start rping’ etc. Like I was a chill space, still am but now there’s not people just randomly anon telling dumb little stories. Random nights where everybody would talk about stupid crushes they had, etc.
The good ooc in general. But like a strong one is that one situation where it was me wanting to come out to somebody, they beat me to it and then I was like ‘oh cool, so you’re still amazing and you to me btw me too’. Or when I was slyly just being me and it was like ‘wait hold up you’re trans? me too dude’.
{ ⋀ } —- talk about your favorite ship!: I don’t have a favorite? Like I have some I adore and those I would kill for. Especially because of the partner. But like I adore especially people who ship with my ocs, or like naturally most things with chemistry. Not even like romantic/sexual ships. Got loads of like family, found family, friends, etc that I adore too. { ⋁ } —- describe a muse you want to play, but haven’t yet.: I mean *cough* my ocs all need more love. *cough* Zephaniah. But I’ve got this series in mind, that I’ve ‘written’ *procrastinate/isn’t published but hopefully one day* and I’d be super happy to write a oc/muse based in that reality. Where pretty much humans are aware of demons, angels and like there’s a whole bunch to it. But the angels are actually trouble, demons have more morals technically. There’s also fallen angels who aren’t meant to interfere with humans/keep to themselves, etc.
{ ⋂ } —- describe a ship dynamic you really want: I need more variety overall. But I’d adore a real slow burn, childhood friends to lovers to friends. Friends. Best friends. Odd dynamics.
.{ ⋃ } —- favorite fandom to rp in?: Hmm most the ‘fandoms’ are uhh strictly attached is to deal with drama. But I naturally do enjoy s.hadowhunters *tv based myself but obviously not a snob*. Or t.ua.
{ ⋋ } —- favorite group experience?: No experience with groups, did try making a og group verse once and uhh it was terrible.
{ ⋌ } —- favorite fc?: Don’t have one. I have loads I love/want to use. Then adore the ones I’ve got.
{ ⋍ } —- favorite 1x1 and/or indie experience?: I don’t want to seem like I value something more than another thing right, it depends. I’d say the people who get that I should write for me, and have backed those choices. From this multi, to that I have a muse that I’ll only be writing for one person/a few I’ll only write selectively because I want to write them for real again.
{ ⋈ } —- what’s your favorite thing to do as a rph?: I do have a technically rph blog, it’s more a disaster blog in general. But I enjoy making the odd musing, sentence starter memes, odd gif icons, etc.
{ ⋊ } —- favorite thing about the rph community?: Haven’t been much in it/a big part of it technically not a “cool” kid. But like one blog I really enjoy reblogged this gif pack I made, with super nice comments/briefly followed my one blog and that was cool. Especially cause I wasn’t too sure the pack was that great. Cause I don’t go fancy or anything- it was a trial dimension thing too, etc.
{ ⋎ } —- favorite thing about the rp community?: The good, wholesome interactions. How as much drama, crap there might be. There’s also people who will back you if you’re scared to leave toxic stuff behind, or make changes cause you need to for your health.
{ ⋏ } —- show a little love! mention a favorite rph or rp partner and give them the affection they deserve.: For everybody, your writing is amazing and all of you are super nice lovely people. I genuinely enjoy seeing you on the dash, writing with you. And everything that also goes for people I haven’t interacted with yet.
Now to be specific cause I’ve done plenty to show I adore everybody. @pulchrousati is frankly a wonderful person, with such spectacular writing on every blog/every muse he writes. Indulges my dumbass. Gets a few unpopular opinions I’ve got. Wonderful interaction ooc, actual communication that I’ve had perhaps like a handful of times. Put the theme for the blog together, the fancy tags- basically the sane voice that was like ‘yo just do the multimuse already’.
Just ashjfkhdsal pretty much and I stan.
{ ⋐ } —- underrated fc you like? : fcs that aren’t overused, fcs that aren’t trashy people- I can’t think of just one. There’s quite a few I wanna gif/use that have no resources and such. So -puts head down- honestly I can’t pick
{ ⋑ } —- underrated ship you like?: Canon? Non canon? Ships I have but nobody else might be down for? But uhhh I really adore Taylor getting to be a sibling. Maia, and Rebecca like fight me but that’s some ship material. Clary where she’d be able to actually you know take all the yuck out/mess with plot a bit but get to have a sibling relationship with her brother. Then like there’s of course more but top of my head so yee.

Hey darling, I'm kinda tired but still pretty good! What about you? I'm gonna put the post itself under the cut because this is probably gonna be long. Anyway, hope I can help you!
I'm sorry for any english mistakes, it's not my first language so it might have some.
First of all, you should think about why you're creating your blog. Is it because you like to create resources? Help people in the rpc? Share your opinions? This doesn't seem to be important but it actually is and it'll determinate the focus you'll have from now on.
If you wanna create resources, think about what you know how to do. And you don't have to know how to make gifs, gif icons or graphics (for example) to start your blog. You can help people with fcs, names, writing in general, guides about something you know or are interested... Anyway, there're lots of things you can start with. But regarding this, my main advice is to do only things you enjoy. After all, this is a hobby and you shouldn't feel you have to do exactly what other helpers do to be a successful rph (and I personally think you'll be sick and tired of being a rph very quick if you don't like what you do).
When you start your rph, there will be days when you open your inbox and it will be empty. But please, don't give up right away. This is more normal than you think and you just have to be persistent. When this happen, my advice is for you to make your "own request". You pick a resource you wanna make, a face claim and just do it for fun. When you finish, post it so people can see want you can do!
Other thing it's important is a 'what I do'. This is basically a page on your blog with a list of all things you'll be doing. The list can help people learn what you can help them with and what you can't. A rules page is good too! Not only for other people but for you as well. Sometimes people ask things you're uncomfortable with and it's all right to deny it! I personally love when people are polite and when they aren't, I sometimes deny their asks. This is okay too. Again, this is your hobby and you don't have the obligation to accept all requests people send to you!
Posting in the main tags (as 'rpc', 'rph', 'rpt', etc.) of the community is important for people to know your blog too. My advice regarding this is to post with a certain frequency but not overpost. I think it's nice to put the tags on some of your resources so people can know you. Other thing that I think it's good is to ask other helpers for a shoutout. They probably won't deny it and your ask will be seen by their followers! To follow other people from the community is nice too, lots of them will follow you back!
I think to have an organized blog is essential too! I might be saying this because I'm a bit of perfectionist but I love when I can find other people's resources easily. But you don't have to have a blog with tons of graphics and fancy things, a good navigation page is more than enough!
Last but not least, have fun! If you're not in the mood of answering things, don't answer. If you're not feeling okay and wanna delete the asks in your inbox, that's totally fine. Remember that you and your health are more important than anything and if you feel the need to start over (or just quit), nobody will judge you (and if someone judges you, tell them nicely to back off).
I think that's basically it but I might have forgotten something so if you need other advice, just come back here that I'll love to help you! ♥

Hello! I hope its okay to ask! I'm currently making a rp group that I hope to open next week, but the more and more I work on it. The more and more I feel like its going to fail, not because I don't love the plot or the bios I'm writing up! Just because I think people won't take it as serious as me, or even hate it! Do you have any tips or advice that could help me out?
hey there sweetpea!! you’re fine, don’t worry. so, this is a problem i think most people go through including myself (&& that’s coming from an admin that’s had multiple long lasting rps on && off tumblr, including some that had been open for more than a year). the tips i can give you only work if you don’t give up after being open for a day && seeing no apps in the inbox, so keep in mind that these rely heavily on your own dedication to your rp. these are in no particular order.
REALIZE IT WILL BE TOUGH. for some admins, this can be their fatal flaw. they don’t realize that building a community takes time and, after the first few days with seemingly no response from the rpc, they give up. there may be a select few rpgs that have instant success and lots of attention from jump, but you never need to expect your experience to be the same as someone else’s. expect that you will have to go days and days without applications or questions, but don’t give up hope that as long as you stick with it, they will come. basically, as my mama says, “hope for the best, but always prepare for the worst.” remember that you are trying to build a long lasting home for writers to enjoy staying in, so that will take time, dedication, and effort from you as an admin.
REACH OUT TO RPTS/RPHS FOR OPINIONS AND SHOUTOUTS OFTEN. when you ask a rpt/rph for an opinion, expect some criticism back. seriously consider making changes in areas they mention, but ultimately whether or not you do is up to you. do not stop asking for opinions / shoutouts or sending in promos to different rpts when you get a comfortable number of people in your group. just because it’s booming now, doesn’t mean your member count can’t drop significantly on a dime. you want to keep your rpg’s name in the rpc as frequently as you can so no one forgets it exists.
BE PROFESSIONAL AND POLITE. unfortunately, some people are going to come off as rude in your main’s inbox from time to time, but do not let them get under your skin. you will be well respected and liked as an admin if you remain as calm, professional, and polite as possible. this does not mean bend to their will, but always look for the most polite way to respond to them. keep in mind that a lot of the times, potential applicants will read other messages and determine what kind of an admin you are, and if you’re rude or unprofessional, they may be deterred from joining your group.
A PROMO BLOG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. the promo blog will need to be queued often, but it’s the most effective way to keep your rpg in the tags at all times, so rpers from all over the world can see your ad at any given time. adjust your queue settings to something you’re comfortable with, but i recommend no less than 30 a day. do not slack off of the promo queue ever.
EXPECT DRY PERIODS. every rp has them. expect a time or times that it will seem like nothing is going on. the dash is slower, you’re not getting apps or questions, and you may feel like the roleplay is dying. this is not true. members rely heavily on the admins of a group to keep it alive, so do not give up on your group if you think it’s slipping into a dry period, just remember that it will pick up again. these can happen several times a year: school semesters, holidays, vacation season etc etc.
FOLLOW YOUR OWN RULES. i see way too many admins not following their own rules, and it’s mostly their own activity rule. keep in mind that you are the very first member in your rp, and the face of your rp. other members will expect you to set the bar for how to act on the dash. if you’re going inactive and not following the rules you set, then so will the others.
DO NOT GIVE UP ON IT. this is the last tip, but it’s ultimately the most important. it’s been mentioned several times, but i believe i should say it a few more. if you are truly passionate about this rpg and the bios and you really want it to last, then you can not allow yourself to become discouraged and give up. you have to be dedicated and active on the main, keep it updated and be around as much as possible, answer questions as soon as they come in, keep the promo queue full, and do not sweat the small stuff. if you don’t get 20+ apps on the first day you hit the tags, don’t make yourself believe you’re a failure. barely any rps that last longer than a week get instant attention. you have to believe in yourself as an admin and as the creator of the rp that you can make it work and you have to refuse to let it fail. don’t be afraid to introduce an idea that you love to the rpc, and as long as you work hard at keeping the place alive and active, applicants will come.
that is all of the advice that i can give you, but i will extend a few offers to you. i do opinions, shoutouts, && promos on this blog. if you need any of those things, don’t be afraid to come to me again && i’ll help you in any way that i am able! i truly wish you the best && hope to see your new rp killin’ it in the community soon!!

MEME IS HERE
What would prevent you from following someone
Rascism is one of the things that will not get you followed by me. If you are outwordly bulling someone on your blog, ship bashing, etc. I tend to follow most people back on my rph at least just so that I can reblog resources and things.
On my rp blogs, I tend to not follow people that don’t tag drugs or overdose because it is a sore spot with me and I can easily fall into a panic attack because of it. I am into checking to see their writing? Aesthetic isn’t as big of a deal to me and their aesthetically pleasing posts (In their opinion) won’t stop me from rping/following them.
Negativity is something that I will not follow people if they post so much that it is almost every other post.
Have you ever thought about leaving rp? What caused it? What changed your mind?
I have thought of leaving groups before! I normally have my mind changed by one person, if I have a good plot going with someone there is more of a chance that I will stay even if I am miserable (Not really healthy thing to do). What caused it? Just clash of personalities is all and it felt suffocating. The group didn’t last long after that but I stayed until it closed.
Do you think rp has had a positive or negative affect on your life or you as a person?
RPing has brought me so much joy but also anxiety and pressure. I have over 500 followers on one of my rp blogs and I just feel like I have to rp with everyone and it pushes me to have so many threads and drafts. Makes me not have the muse for the things I really want to have muse for. I could fix that by rebooting my blog but then I will have to search for threads and I am just not into that so I keep it.
I have become a better writer since starting to rp. I have learned new words, found new styles, done so much that I didn’t think I could
What’s your opinion on call out posts?
they are needed. I have seen so many toxic people that go out of there way to hurt others that need to be called out. Now if you are calling someone out over something petty like they aren’t rping your ship with you then leave that at the fucking door but other than that, I support people that do call outs for the big things like racists, homophobia, Islamophobia, transphobia, stealing, etc.
What is your opinion on exclusivity? Do you practice it? Why / why not?
I do have one exclusive that I do practice in the indie world. I think that exclusives can be a good thing when you are really clicking with someone and you can’t see anyone else filling that spot. We have people that make us comfortable and deserve to have that in our lives so if you want to only rp with one person of a character? Go for it. If you are comfortable that is what matters.
Have you ever followed someone because you felt like you had to, not because you wanted to?
I have! It ends with us following one another but not saying a thing to each other and just leaving it as is. It isn’t the worst thing in the world We aren’t friends and we just sort of leave one another alone but follow each other because we can.

This was recommended to me by a couple different people so I think this could help. I realize there are other guides for Indie RP’ing, but I also think each person will have different things to say and think when it comes to it. This will include a few links to other guides and credit goes to those who made those. Without further ado, this is a guide on indie roleplaying. It includes a link to my previous Petunia Evans indie for inspiration and also visual aspects. If this is useful or helpful, please like and/or reblog.
intro.
Indie roleplaying is a great alternative to 1x1 and group. Groups have time constraints and limit you on how many characters you can have, and 1x1 is you and another person which can leave you waiting for weeks. I was in Indie roleplay for over two years so I feel confident in being able to help on this subject. Indie isn’t as difficult as most would think, it’s mostly the initial set up that takes the longest.
blog.
I will always, always tell you to make a new blog. Especially if it’s your first time in the Indie world or your first time roleplaying in general. A new blog allows you to follow others and just gives you more leeway. If you don’t want to make a url adding a + and a character name at the end of your current email allows you to get around having twenty. There’s also this site that allows you enough time to confirm your account before it expires. Both are valid options. Your blog is going to be the thing that draws some in.
url.
Your URL should be simple and short. Try to avoid dashes at all costs. Try variations of the muses name. Or, if you’re MUMU (explained below) A good rule of thumb is choose a word that describes your characters. You don’t have to stress over this, I can also give suggestions or help if you’re stuck. I used ordinaireflower when I had Petunia. Petunia’s are a flower and ordinaire is ordinary in French. You can use other languages to find a URL.
theme.
Most people in Indie used contained themes. You’re not required to use them, but they’re cleaner. Any simple theme would work. Avoid headers or themes primarily used for RPH’s/RP’s. Popups, which are a link that you click for a box with info in it pop up have mostly disappeared. I still adore them, they’re totally an opinion but definitely not mobile friendly because then you have to make extra pages for those on mobile. Your theme should be clean and have a color scheme that isn’t too bright or too dark. Make sure your font size is 11px or bigger.
muse(s).
Are you gonna be a MUMU or single? A multi-muse Indie is when you have numerous muses on one blog. They don’t have to be from the same fandom and they can be original characters. People separate them by using different tags, ex; if I had Petunia and Lily on one blog I’d tag Petunia’s threads as ( petunia: thread. ) or ( thread for petunia. ) Your tags are up to you and that will be explained more thoroughly below. I’ve seen some MUMU blogs with twenty plus muses and MUMU’s with just two, it’s completely up to you. Original characters fall under this category as well.
rules.
Now, the not fun stuff. Are you going to be selective in who you write with Are you going to be private, meaning mutuals only? Are you going to be to be exclusive, meaning you’ll only RP with one version of a muse? Your rules should also include godmodding, if you’re multiship (meaning you’ll ship with numerous different characters, but they’re not connected at all.), multi-verse (meaning you have different times of your characters life you’ll roleplay) You can include some info about yourself, definitely include your age because of NSFW topics, and mention things about your muse.
navigation.
While a navigation isn’t required, it’s recommended. This will be where people can locate your rules, about your muse, ask memes, etc. You can put various things on your navigation, music links, photo tag, etc. Keep it clean and simple.
faceclaims.
POC faceclaims should be used whenever possible. The Indie community can be quite.. white. Most use icons or gif icons so make sure you know how to make them, have someone who can make them or that your faceclaim has enough of those. Most roleplay from various ages so having different aged faceclaims is a good idea. Make sure their ethnicity matches for each one.
formatting/writing.
I won’t go super deep into formatting because there’s a link here that has numerous guides on formatting. However, most use one-liners and paras, some use novellas (longer than a paragraph, typically four+ paras). From what I’ve seen, most don’t use script because your icon should convey the emotion and what not. You can use blockquote, bold, italics, spaces, etc.
visuals.
Promo graphic. You will need a promo graphic. It’s normally a 500x300 graphic with a png of your faceclaim, your url and then stating you’re an independent blog with your characters name or stating you’re a MUMU or original character. Visuals also covers if you’ll be using icons, gif icons or a combination of both. You can also choose a background for your theme.
terms/tags.
There are some terms and tags you need to know and keep in mind. Tags will be indie rp, indie rpg, independent rp, and then there are fandom indie tags. If you’re Harry Potter there’s hp indie rp or harry potter indie rp or indie hprp. If you’re Supernatural, there’s supernatural indie rp and more. Terms are below.
Exclusive - You will only roleplay with one version of a muse. Selective - Means you will not always RP or follow people back. Highly selective - You’re more than selective but less than private, you’re highly selective in your choices of RP partners. Private - You’re mutuals only, meaning you must be following them and them you for you to RP with them.
credit.
Make sure to always credit those for any images, themes, etc you use for your blog. A couple good blogs to follow that help with Indie RPing are dear-indies and helpersofindie. I probably would have been lost without them when I was first getting the hang of it.
ending notes.
Indie is meant to be fun and not stressful. Do not stress yourself out with getting the hang of it, you can always take a break. My old Indie is located here. You can use it for inspiration or copy the rules and work them for your muse. I hope this helped and if you need more info, I’m here!!

Here’s the first of our admin auditions which can be used as references and examples of auditions we will be accepting. Jessica will be playing the role of Thalia Winsor, taking the origin “The Sidekick”.
{{ PLAYER INFORMATION }}
NAME: Jessica
AGE: 27
PROUNOUNS: She/Her
TIMEZONE: GMT
ACTIVITY LEVEL: 7/10. I work full-time so roleplaying is very much a hobby I can fit in between work and looking after the house etc. I can say for certain that most weekdays my time online will be limited to anywhere between 19:00 – 22:00 GMT time. I have weekends off so my activity can pick up more then.
RP EXPERIENCE: A lot of my roleplays are just simply no longer available otherwise I would happily share a link. I think I have sample skeleton bios etc. for roleplays I’ve created but have no character blogs saved. I’ve been roleplaying for 14-15 years now, on multiple different platforms and in many different styles. I’ve done literate, semi, skeleton, original, canon and fandom roleplays. For a while I was an RPH and I’ve even done a newer style of cosplay-roleplaying which can be found on the blog I’m replying from. I’ve been an admin of many different literate roleplays on tumblr for almost 6 years, so I have plenty of experience with this platform and the way roleplaying works here. Literate roleplaying with a focus on character development is my favourite form.
PERSONAL TUMBLR CONTACT: Removed for Privacy
TRIGGERS: Rape, Abortion / Miscarriage, Domestic Abuse are all really big no’s for me. Those subjects bring up memories and feelings I don’t want to be thrown into. Write it if you want, please have it tagged and under a read more so I can be aware of the content. Not so much triggers but things I’d rather be under a read more or clearly tagged; Sexual Scenes, Excessive Gore, Drug Use, Suicidal Thoughts, Self-Harm.
{{ CHARACTER INFORMATION }}
CHARACTER NAME: Thalia Winsor
PRONOUNS: She / Her
AGE: 29
ORIGIN: The Sidekick
FACE CLAIM: Sarah Gadon
QUOTE: “Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people”
OCCUPATION: Nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital
PERSONALITY:
Compassionate: Thalia is a gentle soul and greatly cares for people. She is greatly sympathetic and tries her best to help those who need it most. Whether it’s in her day to day work as a nurse or just trying to assist those she’s encountered whilst taking to the streets as Nightingale. She is kind and well-meaning in most aspects of her life, the thought of putting herself first when there are those who need it more is one often overlooked. Her compassionate nature will be extended to those who do not deserve it, and will often be taken advantage of – she’s more than likely to give criminals who appear remorseful a second chance, or turn her back in a moment of misplaced trust.
Sincere: She’s honest, sometimes to a fault. If she gives a compliment or opinion it stems from genuine beliefs she holds, equally if she’s critical her words aren’t often softened by sugar coating it. She greatly dislikes those who lie without a guilty conscious and struggles herself to be deceitful. This honest nature has tripped her up on more than one occasion in her efforts to keep her secret identity safe. If she makes a promise she keeps it and often will hold others to the same high standard.
Well Mannered: Soft spoken and polite, she uses dulcet tones and polite compliments to diffuse an otherwise awkward situation. She was brought up with a silver spoon in her mouth and as such was forced to adhere to a strict set of rules surrounding etiquette. This was only enhanced during her training as a nurse and now her bedside manner is impeccable. This will often interfere with her attempts to sound threatening or tough in a sticky situation and only leads to people underestimating her.
Insecure: Thalia would deem her childhood, riddled with moments where she was told she wasn’t good enough, as the main factor in her insecurities. Though in truth Thalia has never helped herself out of the spiral either. She is very self-conscious of both her appearance and achievements in life. The way others perceive her is very important because the way she perceives herself is often very negatively. Whilst her insecurity fuels her worse habits, it is also a one of the main reasons she tries her best to be a good person. This insecurity and need to overcome it will often lead her into more difficult situations, becoming overly defensive or worse. Whilst Nightingale is at least more seemingly confident and in control, deep down the same worries plague the Vigilante.
Passive: Thalia is non-confrontational to an extreme fault. When flight or fight kicks in she will almost always run away from a situation. This carries over into less extreme moments of her life too; failing to stick up for herself, people pleasing, resenting those more assertive and bottling up feelings in favour of ensuring others aren’t hurt. When Nightingale’s mask is on she finds a different strength within herself, one not hindered by the concern of what others may think. Whilst she will not be the first to run into the fray, and will always try to seek a more peaceful resolution, Nightingale isn’t afraid to defend herself. Her main focus is always keeping others safe and helping them, finding an offensive partner to work with only further benefits her fighting style.
Envious: Thalia is often resentful of those who have what she does not. Whether it’s a happy family unit, the attention of someone she is attracted to or the ability to be assertive or fight when the moment calls for it without the need to hide behind a mask... Whilst she often admires the good traits in others she also finds herself dwelling on them too, wishing she herself could hold them. Her insecurities are fed by her envious nature and the vicious cycle continues to battle on behind her pretty smile.
BIOGRAPHY: Thalia was born and raised in Newhaven’s more affluent district, attending only the finest schools in the area and leading a life that many would deem a dream. However paying for schools and keeping a roof over her head was where the generosity ended as neither her mother nor her father were the affectionate type. Between her overly critical, cold mother and harsh, calculating father her relationship with them is strained at best. Her parents were wealthy and successful enough to indulge in a number of different business ventures, leading to a network of connections across the city. Everyone who was anyone attended the Winsor Manor on more than one occasion, and Thalia couldn’t wait for the moment she was able to leave.
Her studio apartment, luxurious by most standards, is a far cry away from the white panelled manor back in Downtown Newhaven that she called home for most of her life. In truth she had never felt more right than the moment she took a job at BuzzNews and the keys to the tiny apartment, much to her parents disapproval. Working at the media company enabled her to pay for her studies without relying on her parents funding and the independence she’d earned made it all the more satisfying upon graduation. It was during her time as a student nurse that Thalia first tapped into her powers.
Whilst the patients she visited and helped tend to were recovering, she had no reason to suspect it was anything other than the medicine the doctors had prescribed. One morning she was carrying out the morning rounds, her first stop of the day was with an elderly gentlemen known well by the nurses and doctors alike in the ward. He was a terminal case, or so they thought. One gentle pat on the shoulder from Thalia as she moved to fluff his pillows and ask about his night’s sleep and his eyes lit up. He removed the breathing apparatus, much to her horror, and looked around the room as shocked and bewildered as she did. Despite the blaring alarms alerting the staff to the worst, the man was completely fine and healthy. The tests over the next 3 days confirmed the impossible. He was cured and on the mend.
Her studying was not hindered by the incident with many chalking it up to nothing short of a miracle she had the unfortunate luck to be witness to, and Thalia continued her work placement at Sacred Heart Hospital which eventually led to her job prospect following graduation. Thalia wasn’t satisfied by the explanation of others however, and began to experiment whenever possible. Her studies only enabled her to understand and use her powers more effectively, growing in confidence with every patient she helped.
Thalia’s first night as a Vigilante had been an unexpected one. She’d never meant to get caught up in a robbery at the local corner store and she’d certainly never set out to have her evening tainted by the robber opening fire on the innocent store clerk. The fact she ran towards the injured man surprised her greatly, but at least it was intentional. Thalia had been too busy consumed with thoughts of saving him to notice Spectrum’s arrival until after the blinding assortment of colours that announced it. Between him catching the robber turned gunman and her healing the store clerk, everything worked out fine. Instead of turning her in to the police and making her abilities known, Spectrum sent Thalia on her way home and out of trouble. From there their companionship started.
At first it was short visits from Spectrum requesting healing after a particularly bad fight, and then it was him asking if she’d mind tagging along just in case – with the promise he’d keep her protected – within a year she’d found a mask of her own to wear when going out alongside Spectrum. Never often enough to be called a hero, but enough times to be cited his sidekick. Thalia didn’t think she was worthy of being called even that, but Nightingale longed for recognition of her own. When Spectrum left she had a choice before her; to hang up the mask or to go at it alone. Thalia’s still uncertain as to whether or not she’s making the right one.
{{ VIGILANTE INFORMATION }}
VIGILANTE NAME: Nightingale
PRONOUNS: She / Her
APPEARANCE: Nightingales true identity is hidden beneath a slim and simple light blue Venetian mask, covering her eyes and nose but keeping the rest of her face on show. Her short blonde hair is usually swept backwards by the mask but almost always down. Her outfit consists of a light blue bodysuit deep v-neck top, with cold shoulder and waist cutouts, that finishes at the elbows. With a mid-thigh length, blue and white skirt to match. The white bird sigil rests over the left side of the chest and her hands are kept free so she can use her power without hindrance. Her white ankle boots are low heeled to make running around much easier for the vigilante. Exposed skin is a must for her, as her powers only work with direct contact.
SIGIL: A white bird symbol with open wings with blue shadowing over top. Sketchy lines and blocky, clearly hand drawn.
COLOUR SCHEME: White, Grey, Light Blue, Blue. Hex Codes; #8890c0 #e3e5f5 #f8f8f8
FIGHTING STYLE: Nightingale works best when part of a team, focusing mainly on supporting the offensive partner and keeping them in top shape. When fighting alone she does so best up close and personal as her powers relying on her close proximity and ability to touch.
CLASS TYPE: Support
POWER: Healing Touch & Illness Inducement.
Thalia can heal most superficial wounds, both fresh and old, on others with a simple touch as well as illnesses & diseases over a prolonged time. Through touch the diagnosis of any damage or illness can be detected in others. Thalia also has the ability to absorb another’s pain and endure it so they do not have to.
She is able to heal broken bones, cure symptoms of poison or life threatening injuries if she is given enough time to do so. Her knowledge of healthcare and the human body greatly aids her abilities. She cannot selfheal in any capacity, any injury she sustains or illnesses she encounters are things she cannot cure for herself like she can for others.
Her illness inducement is much less controlled and also heavily relies on skin-to-skin contact like her healing ability. Whilst she can control when to harm instead of heal, and she can will the general status of the illness, she has varied control on how damaging this is. Thalia could mean to simply make someone feel nauseous and instead given them a stomach bug. This illness inducement can range from giving headaches or numbness to making someone impotent, violently ill or otherwise.

HEADCANONS:
Dancing Queen - Thalia has always been an avid fan of dancing, whether it be basic ballroom, jazz or something more contemporary. Since moving out from her parents estate she’s had the opportunity to sign up to various classes in her free time to expand her passion instead of sticking to the instructors they’ve approved. On the rare nights she goes out, it’s usually with the intention to find a fun place to go dancing and have fun, like Fuze.
Sleeping Beauty - Working at a hospital & a life of crime fighting often leads to a wonky sleep schedule and Thalia always had a tendency to sleep until noon on her days off long before her time in scrubs. She’s a heavy sleeper naturally and often unhappy to be woken up for anything short of an emergency. If she’s not at work or at the dance studio, one can assume she’s either in a mask or sound asleep in bed.
Alcohol Intolerance – Thalia dislikes the smell of scotch and whiskey as it reminds her of her father and she’s just simply never enjoyed the taste of alcohol when partaking herself. Her aversion to drinking has only been bolstered by the fact she’s often drunk one glass in, and no one enjoys embarrassing themselves at the start of an evening. Nightingale has a history of reacting harsher to any criminal with alcohol on their breath, those are the ones she’ll target in a fight and leave worse off.
