Signature Spell: A Happy Little Thought

-this is a time spell that only works on his own body

-it allows him to revert back to a child or to age into an old man, and anything in between

-it technically allows him to heal faster, but should he become younger again there is a very real risk of landing on a time he was wounded if the wound was consequent enough

-should anything happen to a certain limb *wink wink* at a certain point in the past *wink* then reverting back to an age prior to it will give his limb back, but reaching the time he lost said limb and further will automatically make it disappear

-he cannot chose one body part to use his UM on, it only works on his whole body

Real life Peter Pan Syndrome

When he was 5, Holden was “kidnapped” by mischievous children faes. He lived among them for ten years before his sudden growth made the faes ostracize him. They abandoned him in a crocodiles’ pit and left him for dead. When Holden found his way back home, he had not aged a second despite everybody around him being ten years older than when he left.

This happened [redacted] years ago. Holden has since been stuck in a loop of his own making, inadvertently reverting to a child whenever he threatens to turn into an adult. This cycle has already happened at least [redacted] times. Holden's own mental age oscillates anywhere between 5, 15, 25, and 40 years old depending on his stability, and his physical body does not always reflect his mental age.

His mother enabled him too. Traumatized from having lost her child so young, she never questioned how he could be back looking exactly the same as when she lost him, raising him as she should have done all those years back. When he regressed for the first time, she went along with it and simply raised him all over again, feeding into this cycle. It only ended when she died of old age.

A proper gentleman who follows the rules

If one could claim the Queen of Hearts’ throne in Riddle’s place, it would be Holden. Ever since he lost his arm, he has been following a very detailed schedule to the letter and has considered rules as most sacred. Missing an appointment makes him meltdown, breaking a rule angers him. He is very picky on every single detail. While he doesn't hold others to the same level of perfectionism he holds himself to, he does get annoyed when others outright disregard common courtesy and he will take matter in his own hand(s) when big transgressions happen.

Tick-tock

Despite Holden’s obsession with proper schedule, he has a huge phobia of analog clocks. The mere sound of one is enough to have him panic into uselessness. He also has a phobia of scaly creatures, mostly crocodiles, and a near phobic approach to neatness and germs.

Faes

His past experiences with faes make him especially scathing towards any he meets, and the Diasomnia crew gets it the worst. Malleus constantly missing appointments and being unable to keep track of time especially gets on Holden's nerves. He also has a very hard time with Sebek who leans hard into his fae legacy and has enough crocodile elements to himself to make Holden uneasy.

Prosthetic

The day Holden loses his hand is the day his time loop inadvertently resets. After a... forceful wake-up call, he ended up getting a prosthetic in replacement. Holden absolutely despises it and tends to hide his hand under gloves or behind his back.

Sea and merfolk

Holden's father was a renown sea captain and has brought him on his adventures many times when Holden's mother calmed down enough to let him out of his sight. While everything else in Holden's life is the way it is out of necessity or propriety (or fear), ships and the sea are the one things Holden genuinely loves and actively attempts to learn more about. He knows how to pilot ships, know sea roads by heart, and has a very wide understanding of marine life. Contrary to his hatred for faes, Holden is always ready to hear more about merfolks. He still has a bit of a hard time with Noah and Floyd because of how carefree they are, but Jade's decorum and Azul's capacity to bend the rules without ever breaking them have all his attention.

-he has many fencing medals and regularly trains with Silver

logan :

introduced around the time of og accepting anxiety. represents bad decision making and willful ignorance

his first big moment was in can lying be good, which was a game show run by him instead of a play directed by janus. he didn't care whether thomas lied or not. he just wanted to give janus a morality crisis and joke around with virgil

only uses analog technology (ex: if someone asked to borrow his phone, he'd pull out a rotary phone, which works despite not being plugged in)

he's an amateur magician and loves showing off his tricks. virgil is the only one who is impressed by this

pulls things out of seemingly-too-small spaces like mary poppins with her bag, but only from other people's clothes (he will often steal janus's hat and pull something absurdly large out of it)

instead of rising up or appearing out of nowhere in the videos, in every video he walks out from a different random place (ex: from behind the tv like remus, from underneath the couch, down the stairs virgil sits on)

all of his clothes are glow in the dark

whenever conversation with the others bores him, he shamelessly ignores them, often scrolling on his phone in the middle of a video

extreme form of a hedonist. he chases dopamine like his life depends on it and is willing to do extremely reckless things if he thinks it will be a little fun

often causally tries to usurp the others and gain unilateral control over thomas's life ("wouldn't it be fun if you just ignored all of them and listened to me?")

often very aggressive, especially towards logan. he shows his love through violence and insults. he does the same with patton and virgil but less overtly because he can't get away with it as easily

always fights with patton over who's in charge. patton is usually the winner. either way, they don't like listening to each other so whoever wins would just boss around logan (they already both do)

janus:

introduced in episode 1. represents honesty and justice

the most gullible person ever. assumes everyone is always telling the truth and is completely blindsided when he's lied to

a strict kantian. he literally has never lied intentionally

associated with sheep instead of snakes (get it? like the bible?) it's much more subtle than the snake symbolism but gets more obvious as the show goes on and he gets an outfit change. (he wears a white wool turtleneck, has sheep/goat rectangular pupils, and has little horns under his hat, which is why he wears it)

his logo doesn't have a sheep on it, but his christmas sweaters do

tries to be nice to everyone since it's his job to be a good role model, but he would rather be honest than polite, so he can be pretty sassy at times

always feels guilty for something, even if he did nothing wrong

always a target of logan for his gullibility, and how he tries so hard to steer thomas in the right direction. in can lying be good, the game show logan hosted was rigged and completely nonsensical. this drove him crazy because...

he cares very much about things being fair

you know in the we take requests video where they say the most out of character thing each character could say? and for remus they say like 'can you guys just chill? i'm trying to sing all of moby dick'? that's this remus's energy

very strategic. plans meticulously before doing anything. (even little unimportant things) he was the mastermind behind pretty much everything logan and roman did before he was even introduced

says that he doesn't care about the other dark sides and that he only works with them out of necessity. he is actually very fond of and protective over them. he'll never admit it

always polite to everyone, even when he's arguing against them (this was very confusing to thomas who expected him to be even scarier than roman). it's just performative though. he's a hater, not a lover

enjoys making puns but always denies that they were intentional (like og logan but if he was lying about it being an accident)

has very dulled emotions. he enjoys spending time with roman, logan, and virgil because they're all so intense in different ways and allow him to feel something

he is especially attached to virgil, since virgil can't just make him feel any emotion, he can make him feel happy

doesn't emote with his eyes. or blink.

starts off as less threatening than roman, but later on, he gets some much scarier moments. roman has more of a constant, steady stream of scariness, while patton holds most of it in until it builds up to an explosion

Part One

I’m very proud of these dolls, and I’m also leaving them at my parents’ house, so I did a little photoshoot with some books as background so I can have nice pictures of them.

Each book is one that is based on their fairy tale, they exist in some form in that universe, or I genuinely think that character would read it. It cannot be their origin book.

Also, they ALL have to be books I have read. If the other books are more like companion books though, then I disregard that rule. They cannot share series either.

First up is Snow White with Fairest, by Gail Carson Levine. Funnily enough, I read this book before Ella Enchanted. I love it though! I always remember the singing and weird-reading-to-make-the-audience-laugh game :).

Second is Cinderella with Cinderella is Dead, by Kaylynn Bayron, and a little toy dog, because the Disney version has a dog. It’s a wonderfully revolutionary and queer take on a world that supposedly worships Cinderella, but actually uses her memory as an oppressive tool. Like an unwilling martyr.

Third is Alice with After Alice by Gregory Maguire (the dude who wrote Wicked). I have other Alice in Wonderland adaptions, but I haven’t enjoyed the others like this one. If you like ratfics, you may enjoy After Alice.

Fourth is Wendy with Peter and the Sword of Mercy, by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. I debated on whether to do the first book of this series or not, but Wendy only appears in this book, so I leaned toward this one instead. Out of all my Peter Pan adaption books, I like my one about Hook as a boy in Eton best. But only Wendy’s dad appears in that, and I don’t think she would read it, so I went with this series instead. I wrote a book report about the story set in the desert Kingdom when I was like 9, I loved it a lot.

Fifth is Aurora with While Beauty Sleeps, by Elizabeth Blackwell. It’s an inventive take that I enjoyed quite a bit. Explores how expectations can be used in your favor, etc.

Sixth is Eilonwy, with The Princess, The Crone and the Dung-Cart Knight, by Gerald Morris. I know The Black Cauldron is based on a book series, but I’ve only read a snippet, and I don’t have a copy of any of the stories anyway. So she gets to have a late - Arthurian novel.

Seventh is Ariel (she has six sisters so this pleases me) with The Hothouse Princesses by S. A. Hemstock. The author wrote some of the best Steven Universe fanfic, so I bought her first published story when it came out. Idk how it isn’t a bigger hit - it’s about a princess who was raised by peasants, gets discovered, wants to go back, and instead gets shunted off to a misogynistic, colonialistic, colorist princess finishing school, where she finds out some serious conspiracy shit about fairy godmothers. Anyway, Ariel often felt oppressed by her dad and curious about the Human world, so I imagine it would catch her eye.

Eighth is Belle with Lindworm, by Jenny Prater. Coincidentally, this is another case of me reading a superb fanfic writer’s work (Batfam this time) and instantly snapping up their OG work. I have a book of short stories that had a more direct BATB parallel story, but I was trying to stick with Novels. In any case, this is the story of the maiden who married the Lindworm, and what the Royal family does once they have to reckon with the nations of the dead princesses.

Ninth is Jasmine with the School for Good and Evil, by Soman Chainini. Her character really only appears in the prequel, but I wanted to acknowledge this really great series properly. I read the entire thing this summer, and I love its thematic approaches. In any case, I feel like this series’ approach to beauty, freedom and other dichotomies would pique her interest.

Tenth, we have Gabriella (Ariel’s mermaid BFF) and her Sign Language interpreter Olly. I have her human form. Anyway, I decided she might enjoy Wonderstruck, by Brian Selznick. It has Deaf characters and lots to show about the Human World, which I supposed she might enjoy. I found it quite interesting as a kid, and like with all the other Selznick books I own, I used to color all the hair, clothes and eyes in, lol. Listen. I had a lot of time on my hand and consistent access to Sharpies XD.

Honestly I’m not necessarily against live action versions but rather how they’re made. Cinderella (2015) remains the best one to me because it’s not actually a remake, but a retelling. They didn’t try to recreate the 1950 animated movie, they made a new adaptation of the Cinderella fairytale that is its own version but still pays homage to the animated version by keeping its essence, grandeur and magic. They thought about what would or wouldn’t work for the live action medium and leaned into its advantages. I’ve read somewhere that the Disney live action reimaginings after that one were supposed to follow the same formula but due to the success of Frozen, they decided to make them musicals instead and that’s why we got what we got.

We could’ve had it all. Original content and more interesting live action retellings but unfortunately, they’ve lost their ways and I’m afraid nothing will be as it was before from now on. Which is why I think it’s time to support independent or smaller creators! People can make astonishing things from scratch when they are truly passionate (illustrators, editors, fanfiction writers, cosplayers, YouTube musicians, etc.). I’m sure that if people start gathering and working together, there could be new studios popping up and become just as successful if not more than Disney in its prime days! We could even reclaim their classic 2D animated styles and create beautiful, diverse movies that tell enchanting stories and Disney could go jump down a rabbit hole!

I get what you mean. I personally like live actions like Maleficent (maybe controversial opinion but I did enjoy both movies), that shows a different perspective (I still need to watch Cruella 😭 it’s just taken me some time cause’ I’ve never been a fan of the og movie). But I feel this because I’ve always preferred the female villains lol (maybe that’s because the princesses stories often revolved around men).

My main issue with the live actions is that Disney seems to be lazy enough not to actually create new stories (even though I know a lot of the live actions are not simply a copy of the og movies). If they created brand new stories, with new characters I would be totally okay with the live actions. But I look at stuff like The Lion King and just wonder “why make a live action of that? 😭”

I truly wish there was a studio willing to do stories of princesses similar to what Disney does (or used to) but with more rep. Honestly the closest thing we ever got (imo) to the success of Disney animations was Shrek, which is one of my favorite movies ever.

Seeing how I haven't really been giving Nina love I figure she be the next one for the meme. Dunno if im doing all the oc's first atm I might do a few other muses first? well see how I feel XD

but yeah lets give Nina some attention since I have been neglecting her as of late. By the oc muses used on this blog she is my oldest muse I made her uh roughly back in 2011-2012 ish. She was the last oc I made when I still a kid. Cause I was a senior in Highschool at this time.

✍ Favorite thing about writing the muse?

Personally, as someone who just really enjoy's hero characters who started off as an underdog. Captain America, Spider-Man. And hero's that tend to instill hope into people as well? Like Nightwing. It's what I wanted Nina to be.

She's a girl that girl that grew up in a poor area, the kind of schools with metal detectors, no funding, kids fighting having behaviorist. Nina herself was a kid left in the foster system by her father. She already held no respect for bullies and often got into fights trying to defend others. Because she was always inspired by Captian America.

Her sense for sticking to that no matter her own situation always what I liked best about her.

👀Favorite thing about the muse’s appearance?

Gonna get a bit personal here, growing up I didn't often get characters that look like me. Heck Princess Jasmine was my favorite (still is) Disney Princess because she was brown like me. Sadly the way the world is? A women with dark skin, and curly dark hair wasn't seen as being 'pretty'

I grew up being made to feel long straight light hair was pretty. I never bleached my hair mind you but I did used to straighten it all the time. Cause I was told it was 'nicer' looking when straight.

Nina originally had straight brown hair. When I went to redesign her I decided to make it short and curly. Funny enough it's kind of why I went and cut my own hair and stopped straighten it as well. I also feel the curly locks just fit her better for her personality

🌌Favorite alternate version of the muse?

XD I've never talked about it on here but when the whole craze of making Spidersonas. I made a Nina Spiderman character XD

i fleshed it out more when the second movie came out what with the whole 'cannon' event stuff getting brought up and what not. So this version of Nina got spider powers well being at Stark industries for a field trip instead of being a test subject of the super solider serum. She starts trying to be a hero and Steve can just tell this is a young untrained person so one days he approaches her and takes her under his wing so to speak. This is why Nina's spider hero name becomes the Star Spider. And because of the cannon events Steve dies uwu Jay Walker becomes the new Captain America. And Nina's seen as a public menace as is Spider-mans' cruse because she's actively against him And to add MORE pain so dose Autumn Nina's girlfriend who basically her Gwen Stacy. XD Im glossing over a lot of stuff here but I don't wanna make this bit to long XD

XD Funny enough I have Shipped Nina with other characters some mentioned will clear be from a time before I made her a Lesbian. I had her date: Peter Parker, Elijah Bradley, Kate Bishop, America Chavez. Why mention these here? cause I liked them not hate them personally XD And I find it funny that ofc i paired Nina with two other characters that also had an America theming. XD In truth I would say out of her old ships her and Kate Bishop (new hawkeye) was my more favorite one since both their mentors were on the OG Avengers team so Nina and Kate being part of the Young Avengers but of course, you know Nina's end game girl is Autumn uwu I think there is something to say about a girl who always wanted to be a hero ending up with someone who isn't involved in that world at all. Just this school teacher Nina met in her college days and fell so hard for. Autumn is someone who gives Nina that support she doesn't fully get from her family not that they dont supoort her its the Rogers of course they support her. But they don't really see Nina's own short comings or struggles like Autumn dose. When she's with Autumn she's just Nina not an Avenger. They take Cooper for walks in the park together. They relax on thier couch with Copper and their cat Jesper. Nina often helps out Autumn out with her class. It's the time Nina isn't being associated with being a hero. In that sense.

Being with Autumn just makes Nina feel whole in a different way and seeing how Nina kind of found Autumn after losing her arm? Something Something symbolism uwu XD i just don't often get to talk about this aspect of Nina's life

That for someone who wants to do what is right has no respect for those who oppose their will and feels she can teach those people a lesson by beating them down. This girl does not think ahead like at all. she is very much someone to rush in, ask questions never and fully allow her emotions to control her. And well it's all from a good place it's still what gets Nina or others that she cares for into bad situations.

😈Worst thing you’ve ever done to your muse?

For sure taking her arm away. Nina being the act first person she is really needed to learn to think and sure when she lost her arm it was in the middle of a huge chaotic mess and not cause she charged in. But it was sort of a lesson that Nina can't always strong arm, pun intended, her way out of situations. Nina can be a bit of a muscles head so to speak. She kind of learned that being strong physically isn't enough.

😂Funniest thing that’s ever happened to your muse?

hmmm Brooklyn learning that Nina isn't Nina's first name, I mean it is but her full name is Valentina Sarah Rogers, Nina is just taken from Valentina cause well Nina doesn't. But Brooklyn taking it such a big reveal as if Nina was like lying this whole time when in truth she didn't ever see a need to mention it XD And was more shocked Brook only noticed when looking at a photo taken at Nina's college. When Brook has been to some many places that dose use Nina's full legal name since Nina doesn't do the whole secret identity thing herself.

It turned into Brooklyn acting betrayed to Nina's basically calling her sister slow and stupid XD Also I like that Nina implies only Steve calls her by her full name and it's only when she is in real trouble.

💡 What inspires you to write the muse?

hmm im not too sure? I generally love Nina and how making her and older sister sort of shaped her a lot. XD I guess my favorite thing to write about her and inspires me in addition to the question earlier.

This is likely still my favorite thing about her, when first made Nina was an only child till me and Kezzie became friends and started to make oc stories together. I just feel Brook's addtion to Nina's life brings out this softer side to Nina that I never explored before. Nina is quick to jump to Brook's aid and side no matter what even from the start she did as such. She sung lullbies to her sister and I feel is generally Brook's friend not just her sister. She has more trust in what Brook can do than Brook herself dose. And its honestly one of my favorite things to write about her and brook ;3;

not something ever written here BUT I would say when Steve and Nina started to bond and develop their father daughter relationship. Steve, never turned away from Nina or turned Nina away she was never too much for him even when she was dealing with a lot of her anger Steve found a way to build trust with Nina. Nina felt like someone was actually going to be there for her. And she pays this forward later when Brooklyn comes in to the picture.

Nina went from admiring Steve to truly living by what he stood by. And I feel this is what shapes her to be a good legacy of Steve.

When Nina isn't doing Avenger stuff she helps out in her old neighbors youth center, named after Steve.

I like to think Nina will be the one to start up the young Avengers being the leader of the team. Looking how MCU setting up a few members are college age so it works. It'll be like her start of making a name for herself as a hero and such. I can see her consulting with Steve lot when she struggles with leading and such Tony as well. looking at Kezzie answers for Brook I feel when she steps away from the team works for this transition to happen for Nina. Nina and Autumn will get married at some point no kids but they are more pet parents anyway.

Nina always finds time to visit Brooklyn on her farm and brings Coop along with so he can chill with Boof. It makes her happy to see brook living a life she wants. Though she can't help but wonder if she was wrong all those years ago when her and Astrid sort of fought about that same thing.

hmmm I dunno if I have one to be honest? I guess if I needed to think of one it be that Nina doesn't know how to give up. I would more say the opposite is true. Nina doesn't know how to give up she has done it alot in her life mainly giving up on herself. Nina knows how to get knocked down over and over again but finding it in herself to get back up. Her licks were all taken mentally but like Steve she can do this all day.

I would say it was when she first met brook, which was a commission writing piece Kezzie did for me XD BUT STILL I just like that Brooklyn this girl who never known anything of the world put her trust in Steve ends up getting locked up for the crime of being made by Hyrda u-u only for Nina to sneak in and speak to this girl. It may come off as Nina being cautious but it was more her being curious about what was going on. I think its a nice moment not only for a full circle thing of Nina trusting Brook and freeing her and standing up for Brook to the rest of the team. but I feel it really just shows the whole building blocks of them being sisters. Nina, literally willing to risk anything and bet it all on Brook. She has always done this from the start.

I guess currently it would be just writing her at all ^^;;; which isn't anything against anything at all I'm just dealing with some burn out with Marvel stuff in that I miss how the movies were before post-Endgame Phases XD I just need to work through that honestly.

hi hello!! thank u for humoring me!! i love getting asks about the stuff im currently obsessed with that nobody really cares about, it makes me feel valid! also i dont have well constructed opinions, i just have a very messy, manic head so i just babble all my thoughts. for that i am sorry 

im not gonna say jungle cubs is the best damn cartoon to hit the tv and maybe its just my own biased love speaking when i call it a good show but it means a lot to me personally. it brought me comfort as a little kid, i came back to it as a teen when i was feeling very alone and came back to it again as an adult just cuz of my recent love of baloo and talespin and needing something to keep me upbeat during the quarantine. 

and ive watched quite a few cartoons i loved as a kid that i dont really vibe with anymore. i tried rewatching gummi bears. its not my thing. but jungle cubs is?? really good?? its just so charming to watch. i love the expressive animation, i love the smooth flowing dialogue, i love the playful and naive tone it has of just a bunch of kids being kids, i love the depiction of these characters, i love the performance of the voice actors, i love the layers it adds to the original film. layers that were never intended to be in there in the first place but isnt that just the beauty of interpretation and ones own imagination. 

its such a formulaic concept isnt it. to take a classic show/movie and make its protagonists babies for a spinoff. but i dunno, i always got the feeling that whoever was the backbone of this story actually cared about the characters they were writing and took a sincere approach to it. 

they thought in-depth about how to devolve them from their current personalities in a realistic way and what aspects of themselves are so core to their being that they would have been ingrained since childhood. the cubs feel pretty three-dimensional and considering theyre cash grab spinoff babies, that is an amazing feat.

but also, i love it for the very very very simple reason of its really adorable. bagheera especially. to see such a stoic and levelheaded character in his earliest stage as a child just Hits for me. cub bagheera is clever, hes cautious, hes a little stuck-up, all traits he has in the movie. hes also not the best hunter, doesnt know how to roar yet, is a little cowardly, sorta awkward at times and is often trying to prove that hes the best even though hes aware that he is nowhere near the best.

like its easy to believe the kind of person he grows up to be but at the same time, its really interesting to see the more childish aspects of himself that he eventually matured past. and hes adorable dude! baby bagheera voiced by EG Daily is the sweetest goddamn thing, i love him so much 

also shere khan who is a fuckin doozy. hes very interesting in this too. everything about his attitude is reminiscent of a preteen who says mean things to you on voice chat while playing overwatch but if you tell him you’re gonna call the police on him, he starts panicking. thats shere khan’s vibe, a real edgy little tiger who thinks hes hot shit cuz he probably caught something bigger than a mouse like one time and its gone to his head. 

hes constantly stalking around, subtly bragging about what a natural predator he is. but at the same time, he’s still around?? hes still hanging around with the other cubs cuz hes ALSO a cub and likes to play around with other kids his age. and he fucking loves his friends. the amount of times he’s scared off bigger animals who were about to harm them. and its really sweet cuz they like him too. while his attitude is definitely annoying sometimes, they still consider him their friend and enjoy his company. its just wholesome. 

plus hes also pretty vulnerable as hes a cub. he doesnt stand a chance when they come across a grown animal as a threat. he gets scared just like the rest of them, hes just so arrogant that he never admits it. 

in fact the appeal of the show in general to me, is the vulnerabilities of all the characters that comes with being in their most immature state. they dont know any better when it comes to stuff. this show is real dumbass hours 

EVERYTHING about baloo is just great. he does not change even slightly. he is exactly the same except hes little and his voice hasnt broke yet. his child voice is amazingly fitting also.

i mean i guess one thing that differentiates him is adult baloo had some semblance of a philosophy. he was wise....in a way. baby baloo does not know shit about shit. he does not think. he just vibes, okay?? i love him mwah

i dont have much to say about the others but i DO like this interpretation of them more than their adult selves. it also just feels bittersweet that they grew up to be such dicks. Haithi is lovely, i love that hes just out here TRYING to be a colonel but he lacks the authority that comes with being a grown elephant and he doesnt have the self confidence to command anybody yet. he is simply babey.

 louie is a very cute little dude, i love him and baloo as just an idiot squad. he also has a very good voice

kaa.....i dont trust. on one hand, hes very sweet as a child but on the OTHER HAND he grows up to be the creepiest fucking creation disney has ever put in a movie so that snake will always rub me the wrong way even when im trying to like him. 

also ONE THING thats driving me crazy about this show is like. it has the best depiction of pre-adolescent boys that i have ever seen in a cartoon ever. just the way they behave. theyre sweethearts one minute, extremely mean the next minute, going from building eachother up to lightly bullying eachother, lots of unprovoked play fighting, laughing over dumb shit, rude to strangers for no goddamn reason, theres just a lot. 

it fuckin knocked me back like 15 years cuz it reminded me so much of kids i used to play with. and these arent even human children whose brain development is documented, these are animals, this show had no business being this spot-on.

i dont like season 2. it has a few gems here and there that i get a kick out of. but as a whole, its really disappointing. since the show swapped production companies, they seemed to uproot it completely and start from scratch. and its kinda sad cuz i think they were TRYING to do something poignant when it came to a future narrative but it just didnt land. firstly there was a huge animation downgrade and looking at the two season in comparison is kinda depressing. 

also they redesigned the characters, some looked worse than others. baloo looked fine but i still preferred his og look. bagheera....was the worst. rip bagheera. 

they all underwent a huge personality change. and not in the way that showed subtle maturity, i mean a vapid exaggeration of their original personality. the only characters who were left relatively alone in this regard were baloo and kaa. and i dont mind gradually changing a character since there IS an adult version of them that they should be growing into. but the season 2 depictions are literally the furthest things from their adult selves that its unbelievable.

 another pet peeve is they changed a few of the voice actors and.....i love these season 2 voice actors in other work theyve done. dee bradley baker and cree summer specifically who are both very talented people. but they did not fit these roles in the slightest. (not to mention having cree summer play an APE and suddenly having her do a LOT of monkey noises that the previous va never had to do. im not gonna get into all that BUT hmm.) and if youre gonna recast the characters to make them sound “older” as least make them sound somewhat similar to the jungle book actors, so you can picture them eventually growing into those voices. 

also the tone shifted so much between seasons. the way they tried to make this jungle more of a “society” with shit like talent shows and sports games and celebrities and like fuckin. STOP. theyre animals. just let them be animals. along with that the writing just feels really off and its just. not fun. i dont like it 

and as i mentioned, they WERE trying to do something here. the fact that the cubs didnt hang out with eachother as much and were starting to drift apart is kinda sad and wouldve liked it see it handled a little better. but instead i got season 2, which was stupid. and im 21 and im petty. 

anyway i am very sorry that ended so negatively and im very sorry that rant was completely all over the place i have no sense of proper organization i just wanted to gush about what i love. but on a positive note i love jungle cubs!! its very dear to my heart and makes me very happy and i wish it had gotten more episodes

i have mixed feelings because Prince is the best short dance of VM's career so far but then Latch was one of the worst lol.
