#I need to get back into SM fan sailors

@unclefathersantateddy asked for fans to share their "Bob's Burgers" original characters recently. I've been wanting to create a character for the show for some time (since I usually do so with whatever property is my current hyperfixation) and I finally decided not to let my self-doubt trip me up any more in this regard. I'm still rusty with drawing--the last time that I drew for sure was in 2020--but she came out alright for being in a unfamiliar style.

Margaret "Meg" Melody is the teacher for fifth grade at Wagstaff. She's in her mid-thirties and single (though whether or not that's by choice is a hot topic of debate around the school). Meg has blue eyes, strawberry-blonde hair, and freckles as well as three piercings in each ear. She favors cardigans and soft jeans at work, although at home she's most comfortable in pyjama pants and tee shirts.

Meg is an ambivert: she likes to go out for coffee or for drinks, but her clubbing days are long over. She's an avid reader but also devours trashy reality television. The one surefire way to her heart is through her stomach. Meg frequents "Bob's Burgers" regularly once she finds the place, since it's within walking distance of the school: she can go get food, power-walk back to the school, and eat her lunch quietly on her phone in the teacher's lounge. Meg loves routine except when trying new foods, and the Burger of the Day is a way for Meg to expand her horizons without causing any distress.

Meg is very, very much a self-insert, lol. @babs0987 and I have talked more than once about who we would be in the BB universe. I'm not chaotic enough for the bikers or the carnies. As well, I did seriously consider being a teacher in college; only the fear of ruining other people's children stopped me from pursuing that path.

Margaret and Melody are the names that my mother wanted for me except my father's choice won out. Her outfit up there is based on one that I wear for going out, which is perfectly-acceptable for teaching children once I altered the top to be less revealing. In case anyone cares, the real version is a cream cardigan and a purple shirt but I'd have the shirt in blue if I could.

HOW EACH RDR2 GANG MEMBER REACTS TO A CAT IN CAMP (MY OPINION)

Arthur - quite indifferent to it, probably jokes at least someone else'll be bringing in meat they hunt to camp, much to Dutch's distaste. He sketches it a couple times however

John - doesn't like cats too much, but grows a little close to it by them both sitting in silence in chapter 2 whilst John was still recovering

Javier - wants to keep the cat, often strokes kitty but isnt a huge cat fan, although perhaps he plays guitar whilst the cat listens. Calls it gordito

Pearson - rambles on sight that sailors and navy boys believe cats are good luck to anyone who hears as an excuse to bring up being in the navy. Offhandedly will feed it chunks that can't go into the main stew for whatever reason later on- (Arthur hates that)

Uncle - ignores the cat mostly but they are often found in the future lazing around together in camp. The people in camp say it's Uncle's protege

Bill - Worried on how Cain would interact with the kitty but if all goes well and they keep the cat he likes to keep the 2 animals together, insisting Cain could use some other friends

Hosea - Wants to keep the cat as long as its self reliant (eg hunts for itself), saying it'll boost a camp morale to have a pet. Reads the newspaper whilst it sits on the table together.

Dutch - immediately uses it as reason to have another speech praising cats for not following society's clutch and doing as they please with no care. Calls it Ruth (Ruthie by most)

Mary-Beth - falls in love with the cat, likes to write with them curled up on her lap and brushes it with a special hairbrush she (stole) got. Once also (stole) got a cute pendant and put it on the cat as a collar - though had to take it off knowing it would get stolen and put the kitty in danger

Tilly - also wants to keep it, and rants to the cat about Miss Grimshaw whilst the kitty listens. Probably a little protective of it and wants the cat to be a pet for the girls and keeps it away from select guys

Karen - "aw that's cute". Doesn't really care past that but perhaps makes a sarcastic comment to the cat every once in a while talking shit about someone

Grimshaw - at first didnt want an unhygienic animal here, but quickly grew to love it as a mini helper in removing vermin and mouse. Often is seen walking around camp with the kitty and tells camp members to take notes as it's a lot more clean then half the gang

Abigail - strokes the kitty and likes the cat, though is also quite indifferent to it. However shes one of the first to look for it if it goes missing for Jack's sake

Jack - ADORES THE CAT. Cried a little to Abigail saying he felt guilty for liking a cat which is a dogs enemy, therefore Cain's. But now often they play together and when he has naps the cat curls up close next to him

Trelawny - REALLY likes cats, surprisingly. Ensures Micah isn't near to the kitty and uses it as an assistant for his magic tricks. Says every wizard needs his cat. Probably when disappearing will reappear more often to check up on the cat

Strauss - a little avoiding to it at first thinking it's quite dirty, yet as he spends so much time in camp the cat grows to be his little helper whilst he does work, sitting in silence next to him. The only time Strauss ever shared his wealth was buying the cat a little bed next to his desk, partly to avoid it from sitting on his papers again.

Sean - quite superstitious on cats, so if it came around Christmas time hes very happy to see the cat. Believes it's good luck, but watches it closely in case it let's a mouse escape or purrs with it's back to the fire. Teaches all this to Jack, and likes to pat the cat periodically.

Lenny - doesn't care much for the cat, but if everyone else likes it then he supposes it's a good thing to have in camp. Worries to Hosea on having a cat whilst they move often the cat would struggle to adapt, but Hosea says not to worry as the cat is a lot smarter then half of camp, (he names Bill), and they manage.

Molly - also incredibly superstitious about cats, and at first doesn't want them to keep it saying its unhygienic. After time shes seen with the cat on her lap as she complains about her life to it brushing the kitty. However she says it's only to stop it being messy on her things. Insists it's a she and calls her Princess

Sadie - could not care less about the cat, probably ignores it if it comes close without realising

Charles - likes cats, pats the kitty often and gives it spare food he has. However he can't stand how the cat plays with live food, and had to put some animals out of its misery when the cat got bored with them, much to his disdain

Kieran - doesn't say anything but REALLY wants them to keep it. At first he's a little nervous around the cat but instantly warms up to it soon after and tries to spend all his time with the cat. Tries to get the cat and horses to bond

Micah - "Do we NEED another mangy lazy animal we've already got Swanson" really doesn't want a cat in camp, probably kicked it once without realising but didn't care much. Calls them weak animals for being always 'sneaky' rather than fighting everything head on on

The Sailor Moon Reboot Universe: A War Veteran's Memories

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

As someone who loves and appreciates art, I just. I can't with Crystal/Crystal Season 3/ Eternal/ Cosmos anymore. The Moonie community has been failed time and time again by Toei. From animation to animation change, the quality of SMC/III/E/C continues to be lackluster because Toei refuses to give the project the attention it deserves, and pay their animators. As Sailor Moon Cosmos draws ever nearer, (ye gods), I would love for you to partake in my little Sailor Moon Crystal Failures Recap Sampler Platter, as we share in the succulent delights of generic animation, terrible character designs, and empty animated eyes. 

Sailor Moon Chrysler:

Ok, so in Crystal we see an attempt at Naoko Takeuchi’s manga artstyle. There are some difficulties here though. We all know the Crystal song and dance- Web series budget, overworked and underpaid Filipino animators, Toei being the worst, etc etc. But hot take? At least they tried *something* original.

I mean, this doesn’t look Amazing. The shading on the hair is bland, the face lacks the elasticity and expression of the manga, there is very little detail, ya know. But it’s something newish! With the proper budget, this style could look immaculate, and in some shots it do:

Gorgeous shot, detail, 15/10, no notes. For the majority of the show though? Mmmmm. 4/10? 3.5/10?

SMC: World War III:

Although Toes gave SMC3 the semblance of a budget and moved it to TV broadcast, they also changed the character designs to be. Well. 

They look very Pretty Cure.

And look, I adore Pretty Cure, ok? I am consuming Hirogaru Sky content on my TL  like a queen ant consuming food from worker ants. I am Just as invested in my son Cure Wing as all you other magical girl ne'er-do-wells. But the style of Pretty Cure does not suit the Sailor Moon manga style-some would say it is diametrically opposed to it in many ways.

Look at the gorgeous flowing hair, delicate linework, transparent effects.

Now, the criminal on trial:

Overly cutsiefied proportions and faces, thick, (by comparison), linework, far too much shine effect on the hair and eyes, zero amounts of ethereal beauty, and also Mercury’s AWOL eye. 

UGHHHHH.

Considering how iconic Sailor Moon is, and how fucking POPULAR IT IS, JESUS ON THE CROSS TOEI WHAT IS THE MISCOMMUNICATION HERE?

And I know that discourse about the SMC animation is a bit, shall we say, expected, but I needed this little refresher to make my point.

Sailor Moon Cosmos/ Eternal is not an improvement, and just continued neglect on Toei’s part to get literally any part of this project right.

CosTernal:

Ok, so, when we first got the character designs for eternal in 2019, I was skeptical. The return of Kazuko Tadano, an excellent animator on the original 90’s Sailor Moon anime originally heartened me, and then:

They just look kind of??? Cheap?? None of their poses are particularly eye-catching, the proportions look Very strange (Mars’s legs are broken, wtf is Jupiter’s knee, Venus’s left arm is Way too short, Moon’s right foot is missing, etc), and the faces just look. A bit dead inside. Moon and Moon Jr are the only ones with *expressive* expressions; the other girls just have these flat smiles, with Jupiter/Mars having the same mouth, as do Venus/Mercury. 

This was official art, after years of silence, from a renowned animator. 

What the Fuck. 

The style is still lacking that singular SM manga flair, and just looks like the 90’s designs with the actual heart of the characters removed. It was deeply frustrating to me as a long time Sailor Moon fan.

The animation in the actual movies wasn’t much better-nothing stand out, nothing even close to the lovely ethereal style of the manga.

One more time for the people in the back, bad proportions, zero detail, empty eyes, personality-less Senshi, can I get an Amen?

The Present:

Sailor Moon Cosmos parts 1 and 2 are scheduled to be in theaters this summer, and from the looks of the promotional images we’ve received so far, they don’t appear to be an improvement:

Another piece of official promotional material that’s off model, (what is happening with her head? Her hands????), and uninteresting. Sailor Moon, sitting on a roof, in front of Tokyo skyscrapers. Very hecking original and cool, very interesting, much creative. Its composition is off, but more importantly, it lacks the Rizz one would expect from an official Sailor Moon poster. Take a look at these from the 90’s anime:

Dynamic, interesting poses, great composition, stunning colors, consistent art quality. A tall order, huh?

The most recent poster we got is slightly, better but not much:

At least there is some pizazz, but the stale air remains. This looks like *generic movie poster here*, like 

*characters posed in front of Bad Guy, looking Determined and Angry*.

Final Thoughts:

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade; if you are genuinely earnest and excited for Sailor Moon Cosmos, I hope it blows your socks off bestie. If you loved the animation for or just the Sailor Moon Reboot Universe in general, that’s amazing! Please keep enjoying it, and let it make your life a little better. 

Personally, though, I just can’t get over the disappointment. An amazing, universally beloved franchise with this much room for creativity only comes once in a while. Imagine if we had gotten a reimagining of the Sailor Moon story, a la PGSM, or Sera Myu? What if Toei had given the project CardCaptor Sakura: Clear Card levels of love and budget. Instead, we were given half-assed animation and designs, with little story to go with it, (that’s another post though). 

If you were wondering why the new reboot was rubbing you the wrong way, or didn’t have the words to describe your nagging doubts, I hope this helped! If any Sailor Moon fan found this worthy and informative, I did what I meant to do. Sailor Moon Crystal/Season III/ Eternal/ Cosmos is nice in sentiment, but in practice Toei continues to lure fans with the promise of quality Sailor Moon animated content, only to provide next to nothing, and screw their animators over in the process! 

However much of a blow-hard I sounded in my screed though, I am actually not too worried. The Sailor Moon fandom is uniquely creative and amazing- we continue to make our own art, animations and contributions to the lore- all  without exploiting workers! Sailor Moon Crystal was a disappointing project, and Cosmos is a lackluster end, but I’ve got all the Moon content I need right here.

i match you up with oikawa!

he first met you at the coffee shop you work at, and he ordered the most sugary, cream filled drink that you guys sold, and it had like a tablespoon of coffee in it. you made a shady comment about it, and he pretended to be offended by it, but he just was complaining about “the rude service” to be able to talk to you more. when you gave him his drink, he gave you a tip and his number, and he thought it was the literal smoothest thing ever, but it really was just a little dorky, but pretty cute.

he will call you at like 1am, and just talk with you until one of you guys fall asleep, he usually does first, but you fall asleep soon after. the talks can either be actually serious and deep, but they are usually really chaotic, and it’s just you guys lowkey roasting each other (jokingly), or streaming an anime and reacting to it with each other. (oikawa loved tamaki from ohshc and he wouldn’t shut up about him for at least 3 days)

oikawa is a little space dork, so one of your first dates was a stargazing date. he took you out to a local park, set out a couple of blankets and a portable telescope, and for the rest night you guys looked at the sky, his hand brushing lightly across you, shoulders touching, content to be in that moment forever. 

once you were drinking a can of monster, and oikawa had never tried it before, so he asked if he could have some. you gave him a can and he drank the entire thing in like 10 minutes, and it a whole ass ride for him- like he travelled through different dimensions, and for the rest of the day he was super hyper, and talked really fast until it was almost not understandable, and it was so funny. 

he really likes your hair and will always offer to touch it up if your roots are growing out. he is actually pretty good at it, and he will always make the hair dye sessions a mini date, where you guys do face masks and bitch about people while music plays in the background. one time he also dyed a little bit of his hair to match you, and it looked pretty good.

he tried to make you fried noodles to surprise you, but ended up burning them and setting off the smoke alarm. you ended up making it with him, and with you help, the noodles turned out pretty good, and after some practice, he can make them on his own pretty well. once he put in some really spicy peppers just to get a reaction from you and when you tasted it, you almost murdered him, because he was just laughing so hard while you basically died.

one of the most memorable dates you had with him was when you guys went to eat at a small restaurant in the city, so you had to take the subway to get there, and it was really romantic and cute, and after you guys ate, you and oikawa just explored the city, his arm around your waist the entire time. while you guys were outside, it started raining really hard, and you had to quickly sprint to the subway station, before you and oikawa could get too drenched. he used his jacket to cover you, though it didn’t do much, and you ended up getting home at 2am, soaking wet and a little cold, but it was worth it, because you and oikawa had a really fun time together.

you and oikawa sometimes have midnight karaoke sessions, where you play whatever music you are feeling like listening to at the moment, and you both just sing your hearts out. you have so many videos of oikawa attempting to sing the higher notes, and these performances always end in you guys laughing from how stupid you both look and sound.

you guys are both really competitive, so if you are doing something together, you and oikawa will make it a lowkey competition, and the winner gets bragging rights for like a week, and gets to make shady comments about how they are better. so far you guys are pretty even with the winning and losing, but you have a few more wins than he does (much to oikawa’s dismay)

overall, you guys just give off these bad bitch, i’m hotter than you vibes, and everyone aspires to have a chill but still romantic relationship like you and oikawa have. there is never an unexciting or boring moment with you two, and it’s always fun just to be around you guys, no matter what you are doing.

Dog Whistle (Ao3 || FFN) - started off as a prompt from @snackarey​ when I reblogged some Soulmate AUs. This one was a prompt for soulmates (Zack/Kunsel) who felt what each other felt - like pain. Needless to say, this went into a canon divergent AU where Kunsel felt some of what Zack was going through when Hojo got a hold of him after Nibelheim. And saved him, setting off an ever-increasing list of revolutionary consequences. It’s nearly 58K, and though I’m a little stuck I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Dewprism: Journey to the [Relic] (Ao3 || FFN) - this actually has a lot more written than I’ve posted, I just got a little frustrated because well... the fandom is teeny tiny and there’s no real feedback. But! It’s an interesting piece. It’s a semi-novelization where I’m taking the old PS1 Classic from Squaresoft, Threads of Fate/Dewprism and merging the two storylines. Basically... you can’t play the game anymore unless you got it from the PSN for your PSP or... PS2, I think? Or emulate it, of course, you can do that. And I wanted to bring the experience to more people, because it’s got such a great story.

It’s Not a Game (Ao3 || FFN) - this is my Avengers/FF7 crossover, and funny story, it was actually born out of a comment back on my old Genesis RP blog about how Genesis would totally be Tony Stark’s favorite character if he played Crisis Core. It’s turned into a full blown fixit I have a type and I actually have like, 90% of the next chapter done, it just doesn’t feel quite right so I haven’t posted it. And am, of course, stuck. There’s a case of choice paralysis here; the premise is that, in the MCU, FF7 is a series like it is in our world, and Tony is a fan. So he goes to make a simulation to do a self-insert... only he somehow transports himself (and Bruce) to a dimension where it’s real. A “Stark-insert” someone called it; and it does use a lot of “Self-Insert” tropes, actually. There’s just so many ways it could go that I’m stuck on choosing exactly how to progress here.

Party of Five (Ao3 || FFN) - the MMO AU! This was actually originally a prompt @up-sideand-down​ got, that I got permission to take off with. It’s a modern AU AGSZC where they meet online playing this MMO I made up that’s based off of FF7 and modeled after a mashup of like, me studying WoW and my experiences playing SWTOR. I’ve actually got some ideas of where it’s going, I just got too caught up in technicalities and need to reroute it back to the relationships going on.

Welcome to FF7 (series link, Ao3) - this is me hashing out basically what I think went down pre-games. Most of it is headcanon, I cannot stress that enough. It’s based off of the little we know, of course, but there’s just so much we don’t that it’s mostly headcanon. Tons of OCs. It’s a whole series, and they overlap - different sections that follow different departments, mostly. The base story is Welcome to ShinRa (Ao3 || FFN) and that follows the man who will become President Shinra from back when they first discover mako energy. I’ve also got Welcome to the Science Department (Ao3 || FFN) which starts off with college students Gast and Grimoire and how they get drawn into the beginnings of what becomes ShinRa Electric.

And last but not least, honorable mention to Times of Change (Ao3) - this was actually a piece inspired by @deadcatwithaflamethrower‘s Re-Entry series. I desperately need to reread that before I can hope to continue this, but... one day. One day.... I don’t suggest reading it right now, my headcanons have changed and it needs an overhaul. But you’ll see eventually.

Compilation of FF7

The Snowball Effect (Ao3 || FFN) ... sequel? continuation? - as one of the gift exchange presents I’ve just done this past month, it is definitely standalone as is, but if I ever figure out where I want to take it, I’ll continue that one. It was just far too much fun.

The Price of Freedom - the sequel to To Be Human, which... I’m looking forward to, but I really burnt myself out on TBH so it’s going to be longer than anticipated before I approach this one. TBH definitely stands on its own, but there were some loose ends left to tie up, so we’ll see how that goes. And when it goes, when I’m ready to approach that again. TBH needs some editing, too... lots of work there.

The Unnamed Pokemon/FF7 crossover that I’ve talked about for... a couple years now (yikes) but now actually have a plot for. It’s very interesting to me, putting Pokemon on Gaia, and seeing how that changes everything. Because like, they’d have presumably used Mew’s DNA since there’s no Jenova (I can’t see them using Deoxys, which would be the closer parallel) and since there’s no Chaos, Grimoire is still alive. Which means no extra Drama between Lucrecia and Vincent - and really, there shouldn’t be the stress between Vincent and Hojo over her being sick because Mew would theoretically be much more compatible with humans than Jenova was.

What I’m saying is Seph has three parents and at least one set of grandparents and a much more stable Sephiroth (and Genesis and Angeal, thanks to Lucrecia teaming up with Gillian) leads to some very interesting changes. Like deciding they don’t want to fight the Wutai war anymore. >_>

Hold My Flower - a timetravel fic featuring our one and only flowergirl, who has had enough of people messing up her planet and refuses to just... let it die. She is, unquestionably, a force of nature. No fragile flower to be found here, this is the gal you see in the OG who threatened a mob boss and meant it. Heaven help anyone who gets in her way. She’s going to save the world. Possibly in a Turk Suit, don’t look at me.

The Long Game - Reeve goes back in time, and holy crap this one is a monster I am truly intimidated by so it’s gonna take a while for me to get going on that. XD But basically, similar premise to the above - the world isn’t healing and someone has to do something, so Reeve is nominated due to his position in ShinRa and potential to... he’d say “influence” but let’s call a spade a spade - manipulate people and events to a more favorable outcome.

A third BIT fic is one that I started writing with my friend @askshivanulegacy back in... damn, somewhere between 2011-2013, before we switched to writing SWTOR fic together. It’s one where Zack is sent back in time, and the differences in him post-Hojo change things even before he can start deliberately changing anything. But I got permission to take and remake that, so I intend to, one day. It was Good Stuff. And you can never have too much timetravel.

Dragon Ball Z

So, this is an oooooold fandom of mine - the first fanfics I ever wrote (under a different name, no I’m not telling XD it was ten years ago) were for DBZ, and definitely the first ones I ever read, back in the days of dial up. And I read a couple interesting takes on Chichi/Vegeta fic... and I was talking with @vorpalgirl about it and said I’d love to try my hand at something with that one day. I think they have the potential to be a really great pair (don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the canon pairings but those two have a lot of potential) so... yeah someday I might dip my toes back into Z. It’s on the wishlist, as well as reviving and cleaning up an old unfinished work of mine. Someday~

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Seven Years Lost - this one I’ve been debating a long time, and even did a little on! It’s basically how I rationalize what happens when Link pulls the Master Sword out and - well, spoilers but it’s a really old game so - when he comes out as a teenager and is immediately able to handle a nearly-adult body. It involves a dreamscape scenario where he communicates with his past incarnations and learns from them, and from sharing dreams with Zelda due to their bond.

Sailor Moon (manga/Crystal based)

Second Chances - I read a lot of SM fanfic back in the day, and my favorite ones were... more real? Like, there were more consequences to these 14 year old kids out there fighting for their lives and sometimes losing them. I’d like to tell a story through Minako/Venus’ eyes primarily, covering what that’s like, and then I also just really want a happy ending for the senshi/shittenou? So... yay canon divergence, lol. You guys know the deal by now. XD

Star Wars: Legends Era

United We Stand - SWTOR fanfic, baby! Basically, I’m just dying to see the eight classes cross over each other, and I will bend canon to do it. For anyone that’s played the original class story lines, there is some cross over but believe me when I say there were huge opportunities that were let drop by nature of the game. Just with the two Jedi stories alone... but that’s #spoilers for a not-as-old game so I’ll leave that be and only elaborate if asked.

I’m all moved in!

The doll room looks really empty right now, but there’s sooooo much space in there! I can add a fifth storage set to the wall, which is perfect because I’m running low on space in the other four. Jabber below the cut.

The plan is to get a small black shelf for things like my playsets, so that I can access them easily if I want to display my Barbie Princesses again, with those mini storage sets on the walls (I’m gonna get three more I think) on either side of it, then put a black desk on the back wall next to the closet, with yet another drawer set on top to hold all of my doll supplies and a holder for my flat iron. Grey rug and curtains, black spin chair at the desk and I need several more lamps or one of those remote-controlled LED ceiling lights or a combo of the two, because none of my rooms have overhead lights (???) I need a second laptop stand too lol. I have a black wooden chest in the closet that holds my Sailor Moon DD, my SM manga sets and my proplicas and my Tonner dolls are in their boxes on the shelf in there.   I’m overall really pleased about having a bedroom and a doll room! It’s gonna take some adjusting because I don’t think I’ve ever had a bedroom that didn’t have dolls in it and my bedroom feels really empty now because of that, but I needed a separate space for my collection so that I didn’t have to like, stack my shoes on top of doll boxes and mix my doll hair stuff with my own hair stuff, etc Also bonus, I went to Walmart and found the very last Poopsie Surprise w/e thing there! I hate blind bags but these are so adorable, MGA really makes some gorgeously-designed toys when they try.

This one is Chloe, she’s soooo adorable. I prefer her with the pacifier but I had to wash out the slime powder (which comes already inside the figure....why) and now she has to dry. Will probably get a couple more of these, they’re expensive but wow...stunning. Those eyes!  Aaaand I pulled out Starfire and washed her hair, I’m not a massive fan of DCSHG because I think the designs and fabrics are really lackluster and could be better, but I got Starfire when she was originally released and I love her. She’s wearing an Azone outfit which is basically meant for her lol:

Sidenote, I wonder how well this head and body would work for a Netflix She-ra custom? Somebody should definitely try it out, I can see She-ra looking amazing with this sculpt.

And you two were adorable together when you guys were young

Then a few months into the second year in school together, your mom decided to move back to the states

One day, you were searching through youtube and found a video with him as a thumbnail

Tbh you really didn’t want to go

You knew there was training involved and you HATE training your vocals

It was coming soon and you two were planning your thing

Your sibling was so good with coming up with choreography that you knew they were gonna get in

And how nice, it was the day nct dream decided to come visit the auditions

You didn’t know that but apparently everyone else did

When your family got to the place, your nervousness skyrocketed

You were definitely not prepared for this

You wore your usual attire that you wear in your sibling’s videos

When you guys came in, many people recognized your sibling

When you guys got your numbers, you waited

While you waited, you two played games, mainly hand games

And you two stretched and then just chilled until your numbers were called

When your numbers are called, you both went

You can feel everyone staring at you

Like, why are you wearing a hat and a mask when they need to see who you are??

When you entered the room, there was nct dream and your sibling almost freaked out

You motioned them to calm down and they did

Let’s make this the we young era so they’re all wearing their sailor clothes

“Excuse me, miss, can you please take off your hat and mask?” you hear one of them say

Who said it?

Mark did, but you didn’t know who he was

You apologized and did as asked

You fixed your hair as you took off your hat and mask

Your hair is average length, so you didn’t need to worry about it getting into your face too much

You two greeted in english so they know who’s who

You guys were getting ready the dance portion of your performance

You can feel one of them staring at you

Of course it was jeno

But it was a stare as if he was trying to remember something

Yet his memory failed him

Then you guys started and BOY YOU WERE GUYS POWERFUL

You were showing off your moves when you had a solo part

And same with your sibling

You didn’t see dream’s faces, but they were surprised and amazed by both of your dancing skills

You look like you wasted so much of your energy on dancing

“Y/N, you said you were going to sing too, do you have the energy for it?” one of the judges say

You didn’t answer, instead, your sibling did

“You’re just underestimating her stamina.” they said softly, but some of the members in dream heard them

You were given a hand mic

Like a normal person would, you checked the mic, and luckily it was working

Luckily, you’ve been doing covers of english songs, and even same some songs that you wrote both in korean and english

Mostly for your sister’s dance covers but you also sing osts

Instead you just sang an english song you really like

Your sibling is standing in the back and swaying side to side as you sang

It’s seems like an emotional song, but it’s really bc how your voice is and the song

When you were done, the judges nod and wrote down something on the paper

Your sibling gave you your water bottle as you were busy clearing your dry throat

Time skip bc my uncreative butt got in the way

After your private auditions, you and your sibling got to meet again

Of course you had your hat and mask back on as you left the room

You’re dying from heat since you’re wearing all black but you couldn’t care less

Your sibling tried to get you to take off the hat and the mask while fanning you

But you refused since you were in a room with a bunch of other people who didn’t know you were the other person dancing in your sibling dance covers

Skipping again bc i’m dumb

Results came a few days later as you were just chilling and singing to a random song

“Y/N!!!!!” you hear your sibling yelling from another room

Instead of yelling back, you walk over to the room they were in

And as usual they’re in their practice room

“What.”

“Did you check your email?”

“No?”

“GO CHECK!”

“OK!”

And you went

But your sibling decided to follow you to your recording room which your dad still kept

“Did you get in?” you ask

“Yeah, surprisingly.”

“Surprisingly? Dude, I didn’t see their face, but I’m what I saw in my side vision, those kids were surprised and impressed by your dancing!”

“Besides, aren’t you happy you passed?”

“I am!”

“You don’t seem like it.”

Then you checked your email

It’s not there

Your sister was confused

But then you checked your spam and there it was

You wondered why it was in your spams, but then you remembered so many people wanted to scout you and you just kept rejecting them to the point that you just ignored their emails

You clicked and there was the email

It’s in all in korean, great

And your sibling didn’t understand it bc her email was in English

You read it like a book and you made a face

“What did it say?” you sibling asked

“They accepted me, but they want me to sing face to face.”

“Why? Were you too good for just a recording?”

You were ready to fight your sibling

But apparently your parents were listening and willing to have you go back to korea for it

“Well, back to Seoul I guess.” you say

Luckily staying in the city isn’t an issue, since you have a family there

When your sibling and everyone else has left, you stared at your old phone

You could backup your contacts now, but all of your friend contacts are useless to you, knowing they completely forgot about you

Now you gotta plan the flight and pack or else your family is gonna rush you

By family, i just mean your sibling

Of course they’re excited, bc they’ve never been out of the states before

Then when the time came, your mom and your sister was ready

Your dad decided to stay to watch over the house

So when you guys finally made it to seoul, you guys were greeted by your family

Your sibling was so lost and you told your side of the family about them

They still seemed confused, but you’ll translate for them later

Tbh you would have done it a few months later but them you would have to go through the whole audition process again and that alone was already draining

Skipping to the part when you actually went to the building itself

Already you could feel yourself getting lost in this gigantic building

Luckily there was someone who’s willing to show you the way

Of course you didn’t feel any different than before

And your sibling still clung onto you and tried to hide from jeno, which caused you to walk slower than usual

Jeno turned around as he noticed how slow you were going

“Is everything okay?”

You nod

But how long has it been since you heard someone else speak korean other than your mom?

You guys just continued walking until you got to the room and you see some adults in it

“Ah, Are you Y/N?” someone in the room asked

You nodded

Probably they didn’t know who you were bc this time, you didn’t hide your face and you wore some color for once

Jeno was nice enough to stay so he could lead you out of the building

They asked you a few questions

One was what school did you go to

You just answered that you went to Seoul School of Performing Arts for a year and transferred to a general public school

Apparently they didn’t know you could speak korean well

Your sibling was surprised that you went to that school

You knew they’re going to talk so much after all this is over

Now they got to the part where you had to sing for them

God this was like the audition all over again

You expected music, but apparently they want you to sing an acapella

Your brain is like

‘I don’t do acapellas but ok’

You sang

You can feel your sibling being proud of you again

You basically used your water bottle as a mic

When you were done, you listened to the adults giving you comments

Apparently some complimented on your korean, ok then

Anyways, great news! You got accepted!!

Your sibling tackled you into a hug and you almost fell

You can hear clapping from Jeno

Then there’s someone yelling, “There you are, Jeno!”

He looked over and smile, “Sorry, I was showing someone where to go.”

They popped their heads in and found you struggling to get your sibling off

It seems like the adults have already left

“Oh, it’s them again!” one of them said

You two look over and your sibling immediately dragged you in front of them

You almost lost your balance

The kid with the purple hair laughed at you

Problem 1:  the damn cape was too heavy! >_<  I needed it attached thru all layers but alas no one there to pin it right ( @numtaru) so it kept slipping & dragging & wouldn’t drape or clip on any tripod/stand opting to...sit limply on my shoulders.  It didn’t like the fan either, requiring a higher wind speed than the tails of my tailcoat for the desired flow (& more than the backdrop could handle).

Problem 2:  Camera giving me the middle finger.  Usually, it detects the motion & gives me plenty of shots per burst but decided to get lazy on me this round.  I get...1...shot as I hit my mark.  May have missed my actual mark going btwn setup & back in frame. WTH.

As a result my cape flare wasn’t as wide as I wanted it, my knee wasn’t where I wanted it, I had to crop close to save what little usable shots I had & have to abandon almost all my full-body (I had such nice patent leather shoes too...).  I had to splice to get anything remotely interesting in some cases (& I love splicing & composition work so it says something when I’m complaining about it).  Nothing dynamic at all.  Where’s my dream shot!?!?!? UGH

Just...I just want to be suave, is that so much to ask...(눈_눈)

So Tux Mask on standby if any SM cosplayers need one but...idk when the reshoot for him is.

~ SAILOR MOON FANFICTION REVIEW EVENT ~

(Yes, this is idea is TOTALLY stolen from the Klaroline fandom, BUT… it deserves it!)

From November 23rd to November 30th @uglygreenjacket and I, @floraone are hosting a review event for our fandom.

It’s meant to encourage ALL the Sailor Moon fanfiction authors out there – The writers of all ships, the canon ones and the ones who’ve never met. The new writers and the old. The relatively unknown, and the popular. Those who are just finding their voice in writing, and those who have been around so long that people have started taken them for granted. Those that post regularly, and those that update only sparingly. Those that have written that ONE story EVER which you cherish, and those that have written tons over the past 20 years. The ones with only one review, and those with 400. And those that put out new content weekly, and those that struggle to find inspiration.

Our goal is to encourage you all to give ALL those authors a little spike in motivation, tell them that you’re there and appreciate them, and promote the authors of all those thousands of works of fanfiction that we all love. All the selfless and tireless work of people who give us a constant supply of free fandom content!

So, our main goal, of course, is that over the week you review as much as possible, in any format you prefer (A03/FFnet/tumblr, wherever you can reach your authors!).

Even  - or ESPECIALLY - if you’ve never reviewed before (and remember, FF.net allows Guest reviews, no account needed!). Reviews are the lifeblood of any fanfiction author. Remember that your fanfic authors will ONLY ever be compensated for their work in praise and in thank you’s– and that means reviews. Vloggers and AMVlers can sometimes get the chance to monetize their videos, for some lucky fanartists you get the chance to buy commissions from them, or prints of their work, or buy them coffee - but for the authors of those fan works that keep you entertained, sometimes for hours, sometimes for days, and sometimes for the past 20 years, all they  EVER can get is a thank you. So please – this is what this Event is about. Go and let them know what you loved about their story, and thank them for their time.  

Let’s face it - mostly we don’t take the time to review thoroughly, or every chapter, and this is because we have hectic lives and it’s easy to forget, and sometimes daunting to find the right words, but this week, we want you to give your favorite authors some of your love and time. So, every chapter of every story that is worth to be finished reading by you, putting a smile on your face, during that week (and actually always, let’s be real!) deserves that you stop by and let the author know. And on top of that, if you take time out of your day for it – go back to your all-time favs, even if the story has been posted 7 years ago, and drop them a line, too!

And if your appreciation is not easily shown in words – anything goes, really. Are you into drawing fanart? Make something for your favorite author and let them know (they will love you forever!). Was there a song you know that fit their story perfectly? Send it to them! Are you a person who’s able to make awesome AMVs? Make one about your favorite fic!

To help you along, we’ve selected a few themes for the days, and we will reblog all posts that used the hashtag #SM REVIEW EVENT  on this blog that was created for it.

Day One - Nov 23rd | Rec Lists!

Review any story(or author!) you choose, and make a list out of it to share on your tumblr, and to recommend to others. What is the story about? What’s the ship? What captivated you about the story/made it memorable? Is there something in the author’s writing style that you find to be unique, or especially great? This can be your all time-favorites, and it can be newfound treasures, and it doesn’t need to be only one list!

On top of that, it gives us, and all your followers, the opportunity to discover new, beloved works! And to dive right into new stories to read and love and review!

And, please consider to let the authors know that you’ve included them in your list (even just by adding them as @’s in your post, or by mentioning it in a review on their story!)

Day Two - Nov 24th | Write a review for that one story you keep remembering, that doesn’t let you go.

It doesn’t even matter if you’ve reviewed it before (remember, you can leave Guest reviews!) or if you’ve never reviewed it. We all have read that one story that we keep going back to, that resonated so much with us that it doesn’t leave us alone. And that, for a fanfic author, is one of the biggest compliments you could ever give them! So let them know, and if you want to share which story that is, and why, post it on your tumblr with a link, as well!

Day Three - Nov 25th | Motivate Authors of WiPs

I know it’s tiresome for some, reading works that are still in progress, where you can’t just click on the ‘next’ button and hope for more, instant content … but… Multichapter stories, especially the long ones, require constant motivation, and time out of their author’s schedule. And while reviews are more often posted in the beginning and the end of the story, the middle part, which is coincidently the one most authors struggle with the most, is where motivation ends, when it feels that there’s just barely anyone reading anymore.

So, if there’s the story you’ve been waiting to read until you know it’s finished – go back to it, and give it a go, and cheer that author on as much as you can! You might be surprised how fast the next chapter is out, if you do!

In fact, many abandoned stories are abandoned for exactly that reason – and if enough people go back to that story that you loved and was never finished – who knows, one author out of all the abandoned works just might come back to finish what they started!

Day Four - Nov 26th | Celebrate New Authors

In a fandom that has existed for as long as the Sailor Moon one, it can be daunting to start writing 20 years in. Especially because so many people sort the lists on FFnet and A03 by reviews, or just read the works of authors they’ve been following for years, new authors can struggle to find readers.

So, take your time and go through the new, unfiltered updates. Maybe you stumble upon someone who may be new in the fandom, but who’s definitely worth your time.

Or maybe you already recently found some new authors that have blown you away, and want to write and post and share a short profile about them, and what makes their work worth reading. And if you post it with the hashtag #SM Review Event, we will be sure to reblog it!

Day Five - Nov 27th  | Celebrate Old Authors

If they are still around or not, celebrate all those authors that have started your love with fanfiction, or those that kept the flame going for as long as you can remember! What is the first fanfiction that you remember really, really loving? Who is the author that has written the most amazing stories over all these years? Who is the author or what is the story you’ve “lost” over the years and then been so excited to have found again, years later? Share them with us, please!

Day Six - Nov 28th | Celebrate Unknown Authors and Stories

FFnet has filter functions, as we all know! Set it to Sort by Reviews, and Time Range: Updated within 6 months, or 1 month (or whatever you decide), plus your usual ship and language filters, Apply, and then GO TO THE LAST PAGE! What you get will be all the works with none or one review. Sort through it backwards a little, maybe you stumble upon a little gem that would have been lost forever, and then: Review, and share!

Day Seven - Nov 29th | 18+ readers: Review a lemon you loved!

Here I’ll remind you, again, that FFnet especially allows you to leave guest reviews – no signed reviews necessary! Lemons are some of the most sought-after content in fanfiction, and some of the most sparingly reviewed. We all know why this is; it’s incredibly weird to review a lemon. But – it’s also pretty weird to write it, and INCREDIBLY daunting and scary to POST it. And if you want that content to exist, please cheer it on! After all, no one wants to undress to utter silence.

Day Eight - Nov 30th | Reviewer Appreciation!

Finally, it’s time for the authors to give some love and thanks back to their reviewers! Be it from the Event, or from all your time of writing – reach out to those reviewers that made your day, the ones that made you cry, the ones that inspired and motivated you to work on your story, and let them know they were able to do that for you!

This, like the reviews, can of course also be done in various ways – be it PMs/messages directly to the reviewers in question, or sharing that one review that made your life (or the ten that did) on your tumblr, or even writing a short drabble for them!

For all of these: If you post about it on tumblr, please use the hashtag #SM REVIEW EVENT, and we will collect and reblog all posts here on the Sailor Moon Review Event Blog.

Feb 2: my proudest achievement is probably coming back in the first place, when I left, my team sucked, and I had low level girls, and I didn’t know anything rlly, I never even equipped my girls with memories, but after I came back sometime around New Years, my account just... glowed up, i got more 4 stars, started putting memories, started awakening girls, and overall improved by a whole ton! I still have a lot to learn, but I’ll become a pro one day! Oh and also pulling kyoko on like my second day of playing.

Feb 3: i dont rlly know, I guess mgrp or kill la kill, if they wanted to be bold maybe nichijou would be cool to see or maybe sailor moon.

Feb 4: this is easy! Take a look at my pfp! Its masara kagami! I love that she has the “completely uninterested in literally anything” trope without exhausting it. Instead of just sitting and being sad, she actually goes out and tries to stop this endless cycle of boringness. This trope goes two ways, it can go well, or it can go bad like with izuru kamukura, who I dislike, but masara does it great! Another thing I like is that thanks to becoming friends with kokoro, she stopped feeling so uninterested in everything, and started being more happy! Oh and don’t even get me STARTED with her design! She is so pretty and I just love her sm!!!

Feb 8: Emiri!! She is so cute and baby and she’s just!!!!!!!!! I also love how she’s everyone’s therapy, and I love her little cute names and just everything about her! Her design is cute!! Only complaint rlly is her 4 star card, too exposed for me. I also love Felicia! Idrk why, it was just one of those things where ur just like... wow... I love. Also because when I play as a girl in pokemon, I call them Felicia, so I guess that’s a reason? I also like to think of her as a himbo but female and not as buff, but she is strong, dumb, and loves to CRASH AND SMASH AND DESTROY, so yeah!

Feb 11: Ren and rika have an event form, so why not masara and kokoro! They would be a duo unit, and based off of harajuku fashion! In trying to become harajuku girls to spice things up, they became a unit Ig?? Idk but trust me it’d be cute af.

Feb 12: Another easy one! Look at my banner! Its rena minami!! She is baby, has a great design, and I just... lov she. Also her transformation song is a BANGER (not the transformation itself, I don’t like the fan service) and yeah I love her!! And natsuki too! She is SO BABY IM SJSJWHSHQIIEMEJEKWOWKS.

Feb 16: If I had to choose, I’d say kaede! She’s baby, and shy, but can put someone down if needed, like that time she told momoko to shut up! She also loves animals! Her transformation song is also good!

Feb 20: Kyoko!!!!!! She was my favorite out of the main 5, as girls with 1 fang tend to be! I also like how she inadvertently killed her family, something which would bring almost any girl to her breaking point, and she managed to pull through. I feel that she can be an example for how things can become better for you if you just pull through, because now she lives a happier life with her daughter Yuma, and her “definitely not” girlfriend sayaka! Also manaka, she just is here like :3 and then I’m there like :)

Feb 29: definitely the day I got 2 4 stars from the weekend 10 rolls! I got mayu and kokoro, two good girls! Also probably the day I get MADOKAMI MADOKAMI PLEASE COME HOME PLEASE I NEED YOU MADOKAMI PLEASE

February Challenge Prompt-- “Magia Rapport!”

Hey everyone! This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while– a magia record-themed challenge prompt! These can be done through fanart, fanfiction, simple answers… It’s meant to be done in a variety of ways so that anyone can participate. :)

Essentially, one of the things I’ve noticed about this Magireco fandom, especially for tumblr is that we’re kind of small! But the people I’ve met and talked to are all super friendly and wonderful– everyone is so supportive and and welcoming. I think it’d be fun if we all got together and worked on something like this– sharing art, fiction… Reblogging new content and getting to know one another a bit better :D

1. If you are an anime lover, what was your first anime? Or even manga perhaps? My first anime I believe was either Inuyasha or Sailor Moon if Pokemon doesn’t count. My first manga I remember reading was Fruits Basket I believe!!

2. What is your favourite scent? The smell of rain is pretty nice!!

3. What is your favourite season? This is hard because I lowkey don’t think about it much, but I guess winter because of the break that comes around, and unlike summer, I can add layers and cuddle up in those. Meanwhile in summer layer by layer is coming off until I’m like even more dead inside than I am now.

4. Types of music you like? I have no preference really aAh;; but the music I tend to listen to are like from amvs and I figured I liked the song, so I end up listening to the whole thing and such. I also like piano music from Flaming Heart because it’s really nice !! I’m also slowly getting into KPOP music so that’s a thing :.)

5. Would you rather be a great dancer or singer? I can sing decent already so I’d love to be able to dance if I wasn’t so lazy ;,DD

6. Are you more of a TV person or book person? I’m more of a TV person rn since I tend to watch more TV, say when I’m eating, than I do with reading books. ^.^

7. Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy or Pride? If this is a lowkey tag yourself question I’m Sloth ASF. If this is a servamp question I really love them A L L. I have a slight bias for like the pride pair because I love Tetsu sm and Hugh is precious.

8. Do you have any pets???? :D Tell me about them! OKAY WELL UM, I HAD PETS. ITS SHIROS STORY TIME. WE USED TO HAVE THIS LARGE TURTLE, BUT WHAT HAPPENED WAS WE WERE GOING OUT AND LEAVING THE TURTLE AT HOME. MY DAD FOUND IT A GOOD IDEA TO PLACE THE TURTLE IN THE BACKYARD, AGAINST FENCE, SURROUNDED BY BRICKS. WHEN WE CAME BACK, AND CHECKED THE TURTLE WAS GONE. NOW I DONT KNOW IF IT WAS IN A DREAM OR REAL LIFE BUT I REMEMBER SOMETHING ABOUT FINDING TURTLE PARTS IN THE BACKYARD. MORE STORYTIME, WE USED TO HAVE A BUNCH OF FISH. LIKE SMALL FISH, BIG TANK. THERE WERE SOME SPECIES OF FISH THAT DIDNT SURVIVE ONCE WE PUT IT IN THE TANK SINCE MAYBE IT WASNT THE RIGHT TYPE OF WATER. THE REST OF THEM ENDED UP IN THE WATER OF THE PARK NEAR MY HOUSE BC NO ONE TOOK CARE OF THEM. BC OF MY DAD ONCE AGAIN. I don’t even know if he got the permission to put them in there but now I can occasionally see them getting by in the park :.)

9. Latest dream you remember? I DONT KNOW WHAT THE LATEST ONE WAS BUT I CAN TELL YOU ALL ABOUT AN ICONIC ONE. It was a couple years ago, and I was a huge fan of Pokemon. So the dream was me going on an adventure with Pokemon, and like exploring caves and routes and it was a journey :.) at the end I was in this shimmery sparkly nice cave and like I saw Piplup and it was clapping and it was so cute but I was like what are you trying to tell me. I woke up to find out my mom was trying to wake me up by clapping in front of my face lololol

10. Wake up early and sleep early? Or do you stay up late and sleep in late? I would prefer to stay up late and sleep in late ^^

11. A song you would recommend? Or what was the last song you listened to? I have a couple of them actually! Overdose and El Dorado by EXO, Flame of Love by Taemin, Young and Menace by Fall Out Boy, Prom Queen by Molly Kate Kestner and It took me by surprise by Maria Mena!!

About Mermaid Melody and Momoko Makiuchi

Yesss!!! I’ve finally found another Mermaid Melody fan! This show is so underrated in my opinion, true it did receive a big amount of success when it was airing ten years ago but now it seems almost forgotten… Too bad, because I think it is the best maho shojo after Sailor Moon, and thus also the best maho shojo anime, since Sailor Moon has still to get a rightful adaptation, and thus also the best anime ever, since maho shojo is the beste genre! Anyway, now I really have to ask you the first question for every Mermaid Melody fan: what songs do you prefer, the Japanese or the Italian ones? Please let me know your opinion about this wonderful musical anime!

And yes, I share the love for Momoko Makiuchi - sure Keiko Iwata is the best, but Momoko is still amongst the best SM animators ever, I would put her third behind Keiko and Naoko Kuwabara. And the funny thing is that she worked for all of my three favourite anime, which are Mermaid Melody, Sailor Moon Crystal and Pokémon Diamond & Pearl. Now, if only did she work for Dragon Ball and Lady Oscar, too, then my world would be complete! xD

Ayyye~ Well looking back on MMPPP It’s pretty cheesy now. (Like now a days I’d give it a like… 5.5/10?) I haven’t read the manga yet though, I heard it’s waaay better (if that’s the case @ Japan, MMPPP reboot/remake maybe?) Honestly I’d kill for the Pichi Pure Microphones and the Shells/Pearls merch. 

Yeah if I had to rate it, Makiuchi and Komatsu are like neck and neck, but third/fourth on my list. Iwata is number one I’m sorry xD As for Key Animators, I’d have to say Hironori Tanaka is honestly the best for SMC (though he did work under Makiuchi for SMC so…) My honest problem with her SMC eps though is that if there’s been a rush it really shows, the Quality drops significantly. Komatsu’s blend with Makiuchi’s style is a really good style though 

So this one below is probably Tanaka but I love how Kunzite was drawn in this ep. 

Makiuchi is an AD for some Yugioh eps too, I think mostly for Zexal and you can kinda see the Yugioh style in her SMC eps. Funny thing, Iwata has worked on a Pokemon XY ep. Here’s her presumed cuts.

As for my taste in MMPPP music, I haven’t heard all the Italian versions, and I’m not really into the ones I did listen too. But the one I really like is Dolce Melodia and Assoluto Amore. Hanon’s singing voice is like really good in that dub too??? I wish there was a version with just Hanon singing like the Japan dubs did.

As for the Japanese dubs my favorite songs are (in no particular order):

My hopes for SMC Dream/Naoko's vision

(Since everyone is doing this…and literally everyone in the smc fandom has different expectations for the new designs in season 4. But no one has been a voice I personally 100% agree with (everyone is slighty different) and I know this is pointless since Japanese animators do not read tumblr responses from any western fans but here it goes.)

Sailor Moon as visioned by Naoko Takeuchi, right from the beginning had a myriad of inspirations that inspired the creation of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and the Sailor V manga. Maybe it might be hard to notice at first but these inspirations become more apparent with each volume. There is most definitely a reason for everything she does.

So in order to talk about “my hopes” I need to tell you about Naoko’s. We are one in the same and I wouldn’t change a thing. She loves many things and all of the things she loves are present in Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon!

She loves fashion and was frequently inspired by Vogue and 90’s couture. Even some of the outfits were directly inspired from signature couture pieces! This is why proportions appear elongated and there’s a certain elegance and maturity to her designs. If you’ve ever seen a fashion designer make a sketch then you’ll know why.

She loved figure skating and the movement and elegance of dancing which is why everything has the caught-in-the-wind effect. You’ve probably noticed the skirts look a lot like the skirts figure skaters wear. That’s why the clothes are short and flowy so they can move around in them easily.

One of the most important inspirations for the message of Sailor Moon (SM) and the concept was her love for Astronomy and astrophotography. This probably explains the weightlessness of her designs or why there is a noticeable reduction in gravity in her drawings like everything is floating.

When times were stressful, she dreamed of one day, going up in space and looking back on Earth. She tells us we only have one Earth and to experience such a thing from that vantage point is a reminder of what true happiness must be like. A small reminder that we share more similarities in each other than we have differences.

She loved takarazuka (Japanese) style theater and this probably inspired some of the role-reversals you see in SM. This is why most of the villians are female. Also why Tuxedo Kamen plays a role similar to the damsel in distress or why he typically has powers normally associated with female characters. The key here is female empowerment. You get the sense of strength from this inspiration. This explains the guardian-aspect of the characters here.

Finally one of the last inspirations that drove her to become a mangaka was reading girls manga. She loved this concept and she was a big supporter of seeing more media produced for women by women in the future.

Remember this was at a time in the early 1990s where the Equal Employment Opportunity Law was passed which enabled women to go out into the world and work. She thought it was long overdue and that women needed to be involved in the industry.

So to sum up this short but very long article, when you start saying things like “I want the animators to change their proportions or I don’t think they should wear lip gloss.” What you are effectively saying is that you support the removal of something that makes Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon and so special to so many.

The proportions resemble fashion and add elegance/sophistication and give the girls a sleek maturity. Hence why they are styled with lip gloss to make a statement. It’s empowering. You’re effectively supporting the removal of something that makes them so powerful. It’s literally a fantasy and not meant to be taken literally. This is not real-life, it’s a work of fiction inspired by real life.

So yes, I hope the sequel of Sailor Moon Crystal takes these inspirations into account. I hope dream is dreamy, elegant, mature & elongated, stylized, empowering, flowy & weightless, caught-in-the-wind and an overall fantasy from a womans perspective.

In dream they are all 15 (some are older) and in stars they turn 16. I see no point in supporting super exaggerated anime expressions that make the girls appear younger when they are not at this point.

Sailor Moon is a story about a group of girls with tragic pasts who were forced to grow up quickly and fight for what they believe in at a very young age. Don’t try to change Sailor Moon, let them be who they are. Let them grow up in front of our eyes and be the strong and courageous women they were destined to become.

It’s a powerful message not easily digestible by a society that still views women as the exact opposite of all things Sailor Moon stands for. Sailor Moon never once acts masculine. She emodies everything feminine. She has the bows, the skirt, the make-up, the earrings, tiara and the flawless hair and she stands strong in the face of what seems to be impossible circumstances.

She makes us all believe the impossible has a chance in hell to become possible again. That we all stand a chance, even if the odds are against us. This is Naoko Takeuchi’s dream and this is my dream. So “#just let me dream” and “#take me to the stars”
