i wish frida and cleo had been given more focus this season so we could watch their relationship develop. it felt extremely rushed to have them get together in two episodes when they didn’t even really interact for the other six. win for wlws though!

The Acolyte's first two episodes were a mixed bag imo. The scenery and costumes and fight sequences are absolutely gorgeous, the show is visually stunning and feels a lot like Andor did, but there's something missing in the heart of this show. The entire first episode, with every reference and familiar point, I just felt like this was a show where someone had read a Wookiepedia article, rather than that they were actually that familiar with Star Wars. I'm not sure I could put my finger on everything why, it wasn't just one thing, but the worst thing for me was the way Vernestra was written. Nothing of her scenes felt like herself from the books, despite that, yes, she's reserved and a little uptight in the books, there was a warmth to her that barely came through here, she was very focused on how the Jedi would look politically or how they needed to discuss things instead of acting on the information they had--neither of those are bad things! She's not wrong! She just doesn't feel like Vernestra. The second episode was a lot better, when Sol and Mae had their conversation about her grief and he urged her to let it go, because what she wanted was revenge, and look what revenge had done to Mae, that felt like, yes, this scene nailed it! This scene understood the assignment. Sol is a great character so far, Osha is a great character so far, I'm vaguely intrigued by the mystery they're setting up about what happened 16 years ago, and while I wouldn't say it's a must-see series, you're fine to skip it so far, but I liked it well enough. It was fun to see Jedi in live action looking like they came straight out of the Clone Wars, just with fancier clothes, and I love that the Jedi are allowed different personalities and I like all of them. Sol is fantastic. Osha loves the Jedi, even after she left them. Indara was hot as all get out and went down like a Jedi badass, by saving someone. Jecki is pure delight. Yord is an uptight disaster whom I love, he's wound pretty tight but when push came to shove, he stood up for defending what was right, when he could plainly see Osha was innocent. The makeup is a mixed bag--Vernestra looks like she spent an hour in the makeup chair, meanwhile Jecki's Theelin makeup looked gorgeous. Some of the Jedi robes look a little stiff, a hint of high end cosplay to them, but Indara's looked great. So, watch it if that's you're interested in! I thought it was fun, visually stunning but lacking some heart in the opening episode, it leans a little fanon more than canon, but not intolerably so (some off-kilter but not horrible use of The Attachment Discourse), and I don't think it'll set Star Wars on fire or anything, but it's a fine addition to the collection.

So when discussing the ending of ‘Over the Garden Wall’ and the nature of the Unknown in general, I think it is important to remember that it’s left deliberately up for interpretation. You know, it’s not a Quiz with one concrete answer we must uncover, but it’s more about our interpretations and personal feelings. Each and every one of us experiences that journey with Wirt and Greg into the Unknown in a slightly different way.
So what I want to do here is not present a Correct Interpretation that will dispute all the others and prove them all wrong and prove myself right, I just want to share my own outlook on the nature of the Unknown. In the hopes that others will like it and it’ll inspire more cool readings and interpretations
So on some level I do agree with the popular theory that the Unknown is some sort of Afterlife - but I don’t see it as a regular Afterlife for human souls, I think it is an afterlife for Stories. This place is where fictional characters and stories end up once they’ve been totally forgotten by the living, ‘lost in the clouded annals of history’. and become.... unknown It is quite literally a place where ‘long forgotten stories are revealed to those who travel through the wood’.
Tumblr media
That’s why the Unknown is a mishmash of different time periods and primarily visually and narratively influenced by stuff like fairy tales, ghost stories, children’s books and old cartoons - these stories have a high-tendency to be forgotten and thus get lost in the Unknown (whatever it’s because they rely on oral traditions or because they suffered from very poor preservation historically).
And that is what the theme song, ‘Into the Unknown’ is talking about…
Tumblr media
Where can we pretend that dreams do come true? In Stories.
Tumblr media
And what are ‘the loveliest lies of all’? Now that would be Fiction.
The entire concept of stories is a huge theme of this song, I think.
Tumblr media
Beatrice and her family, Adelaide of the Pasture, Auntie Whispers and Lorna were all originally fairy tales. Maybe the same fairy tale, or maybe they were originally separated before being ‘melded’ together. (If, for example, the last child to Remember them before they were forgotten just assumed the Bad Witch in both the Auntie Whispers and Beatrice stories was Adelaide)
Tumblr media
Pottsfield was an old urban legend about a haunted ghost town, Wirt and Greg basically played through its ‘plot’ directly.
Tumblr media
Miss Langtree, the schoolhouse and the other associated characters come from a long-forgotten and out-of-print children’s book. That’s why those characters tend to talk in comically-stilted expository dialogue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Tavern was the setting for a series of 20’s animated cartoons.  (Although obviously set long before that era). The Tavern Keeper was created as a Betty Boop clone and was the main character. The Tavern setting was probably a mere framing device for all sort of musical animations. The reason why none of them can comprehend the idea of not having some sort of Title or Label is because that’s how they were written - all given job-related titles but not named.
Tumblr media
Fred the Talking Horse was a main character from a forgotten tradition of humorous oral stories where he was sometimes a trickstery anti-hero and sometimes a straight-up comedic villain protagonist.
Tumblr media
Quincy Endicott and Margueritte Grey were characters from a satiric limerick about the greedy rich and their wacky habits. (Quincy was at least inspired by a real-life person since his name appears on a tombstone in the real world)
Tumblr media
Possibly the same limerick where the punchline was the status-quo at the beginning of their OTGW ep, that both rivals’ mansions have become connected and they assume the other is a ghost haunting their house. Or maybe they were each from different regional variations of the same limerick about a greedy rich weirdo being lost in their own house and going mad.
Tumblr media
Frogland and their little boat might be from a children’s book as well, but I also think that maybe… from the vignettes shown at the opening of the series…
Tumblr media
That one might take place outside the Unknown, and shows the real inception of Frogland. Two brothers making up stories with their toy boat by the river. Since they never shared these stories with anyone else, when these two brothers died or maybe just grew up and forgot their boyhood misadventures by the stream - these stories also ended up in the Unknown.
Tumblr media
The Fishing Fish we see briefly in ‘Babes in the Woods’ might be a small comedic illustration from a children’s book, or another piece of limerick, or just someone’s random notebook doodle that gained a life of its own first in the creator’s mind and then in the Unknown.
Tumblr media
Cloud City, the North Wind and the Queen of the Clouds were also, much like the Tavern, from a very old cartoon.
Tumblr media
The Beast was once just a mere Boogie Man to keep young children from wandering off into the woods. Ending up forgotten in the Unknown just ended up giving him a whole world of lost souls to harvest.
Tumblr media
Maybe the Woodsman and his daughter were always a part of the story of the Beast. But since it seems that the Woodsman being a lantern-bearer is a fairly recent development - they might have had their own separate story. Some sort of pastoral novel about a family moving near the woods? But their narrative has been ‘hijacked’ by the Beast.
Tumblr media
Wirt and Greg ended up lost within the Unknown cause had they actually died in the lake that night - they would have become a Story in their town. I mean we have a moody lonely teenager and his adorable little brother disappearing/dying - on the night of Halloween - after last being seen in a graveyard - with the older brother’s last act on this earth being to hand his crush a cassette of his love poetry. Can you imagine what sort of Urban Legenda you can grow from those seeds?
But as they were not yet dead, and not a Story yet… so they were technically an Unknown story. Between the borders of life and death from a human perspective because they were about to die, and from a Story perspective because they were just about to be born.
And the ending sequence, with the little vignettes showing where all the characters from all the episodes ended up. I think that’s almost like Wirt and Greg back in the world of the living and the real - being able to create happy endings for all of those stories they've met. That’s how the Woodsman’s daughter ended up being alive all along - it was less that the Woodsman's whole tragedy was a wacky misunderstanding all along. But it became so as a gift of thanks by their new storytellers - Wirt and Greg.
Tumblr media
Because if dreams can't come true, than why not pretend?

I’ve posted before about most of the student body of Clone High outside of the main-cast hardly get a chance to speak in season 2.
Weird (see ‘bad’) choice for a show which is built around gags about historical figures.
But we missed out on the foster parents too!
Tumblr media
Why did we get so few new foster parents for the new characters?
The big exception is Topher's mom. I love this blank-eyed 50s housewife who Topher communicates with solely by screaming and using her first name.
Tumblr media
The s1 foster parents weren't deep characters but they added to the feeling of a lived in world populated by a whole community. The clones home-lives were another setting the show could use away from the school itself. Sure, some of the foster parents were stereotypes, no point denying that but at least they were lovable wacky stereotypes? You could feel the show was being slightly tongue-in-cheek by choosing as many diverse kinds of parents as possible but as broad as they played, I still thought it was cool that Ghandi's parents were Jewish and JFK had two Dad's.
Tumblr media
I think they trusted the audience to know that irl alcholic parents are no laughing matter and that blind people aren't constantly walking into walls but in my mind, I can forgive that because it was funny! Toots is an mvp of season 1 and I miss him so much. Not just for the Mr Magoo shit but he also had a sweet relationship with Joan. Just one of many examples where S1 could have little moments of sincerity without it turning into feel-good treacle.
Tumblr media
I think Lord, Miller's and co's hearts were in the right place and sincerely wanted to create a show that felt less edgelordy weith fewer problematic charcters but they nerfed half their cast and replaced them with nothing. The new clones were a great chance to introduce fun new foster parents and they just didn't! The lack of parents compounded the weird empty feeling of the new season, a show about six or seven main cast in a vacuum, surrounded by side-characters who won't be saying anything or doing anything.

August 2024 Reading List
Complete
War & Peace and the Redemption of Bucky Barnes (Rated: E, Words: 51K) by ThePirateStorm / @fsbc-librarian
Summary: Bucky Barnes is running from his problems. He’s housesitting for his best friend while she’s on her honeymoon - the almost a year prior that he’s been staying in her house doesn’t count - when he’s woken in the middle of the night by an angel and a demon. Okay, maybe they’re not a literal angel and demon, but Steve Rogers *looks* like an angel, and his daughter Charli certainly *acts* like a demon. The father/daughter duo are running from their own problems, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t crash headlong into one another’s lives. Throw in a cursed book for good measure, and it’s about to get a whole lot more interesting.
Sleep, Baby (Rated: E, Words: 4K) by buckybarnesdeservestobehappy (hutchabelle)
Summary: Have a baby, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. And it is, but it’s also the most bone-crushingly tiring thing in the world. Bucky needs a nap, coffee, and sex, but his baby WILL NOT SLEEP! He should have known his husband always has a plan, especially on Valentine's Day. Written for the Hell Yeah Bottom Bucky Valentines Exchange.
Winter's Children (Rated: E, Words: 66K) by Neery
Summary: When their attempts to recreate the super soldier serum failed, Hydra started trying to breed Captain America clones from his genetic samples. Unfortunately, the serum's effects aren't passed down genetically, so instead of an army of tiny Captain Americas, they get a bunch of tow-headed, asthmatic, allergic, immuno-compromised little Steves. And then the Winter Soldier stumbles across Hydra's failed experiment...
tin cans with string (Rated: T, Words: 22K) by Somanywords / @somanywords
Summary: Bucky’s mother was looking at him knowingly, and she pulled out a chair for him, which he climbed into gratefully. “You’re an only child, aren’t you, Steve?” “Yes Ma’am.” “It ever gets to be too much for you, you just excuse yourself and come sit in the kitchen a minute. It’s a little noisy with the baby at times, but other than that you can catch a breath.” Steve looked up at her gratefully. She understood, and having someone understand was the best thing in the world. --an exploration of mothers, and of one that isn’t yours.
Where You Lead, I Will Follow (Rated: T, Words: 11K) by attackofthezee (noxlunate)
Summary: When Steve was sixteen years old Peggy Carter had placed a tiny, blonde six pound, three ounce bundle into Steve’s arms. She’d kissed the top of Carter’s head, kissed Steve’s cheek and said “I can’t do this.” with such strength and conviction that Steve hadn’t even questioned her. “I know.” Steve had said, shifting Carter to rest against his chest, a hand on her bottom and the other cupping her tiny, soft head. “But I can.” AKA it's a Gilmore Girls AU and Steve loves his kid, Bucky, Stars Hollow, and coffee. In that order.
Seahorses (Rated: E, Words: 31K) by poppyfields13 & tinzelda
Summary: Now that Bucky’s taken over the role of Captain America, Steve feels like it’s finally the time to start a family. Bucky doesn’t know what to feel when Steve breaks the news he’s going to adopt a baby. He wants Steve to be happy, but he’s worried it will affect their friendship. Once Steve becomes a dad though, Bucky can’t help falling in love with the baby. And maybe Steve will finally see Bucky in a different light.
Loves Me Like A Rock (Rated: T, Words: 4K) by musette22 / @musette22
Summary: “You’re not that bad, Steve,” Sarah reassures him, though she can’t be entirely sure. “I’m sure you must’ve gotten a little better at flirting since your high school days?” Steve makes a face. “What on earth would give you that idea?” “Well,” Sarah says, reaching over to give Steve's hand a consoling pat, “you have other qualities, my darling.” “Such as?” “You could out-stubborn a donkey,” she answers, without missing a beat. “You’ve got a decent singing voice, too. Dogs love you.” Steve huffs. “Gee, thanks, ma. That's really helpful.”
A Wedding to Remember (Rated: E, Words: 19K) by SucculentHyena
Summary: It’s Becca’s wedding, her happiest day. Bucky just wants it to go as planned. And it does! Repeatedly.
Five Times Bucky Modelled For Steve (Rated: T, Words: 8K) by Selenay
Summary: The first time Steve drew Bucky, he had purple hair like something out of a cartoon. "I don't have a brown," Steve said when he got to Bucky's hair. "Sorry. It got broken."
sharing beds like little kids (Rated: M, Words: 17K) by tesselated
Summary: Steve and Bucky are childhood best friends who get separated when they're thirteen and Steve moves away. Five years later, they see each other at a party. ++ It seemed to Bucky that there had to be a certain all-encompassing awkwardness in going up to the guy you loved best when you were twelve and saying “Hey buddy, remember me?”
Love Thy Neighbor (Rated: M, Words: 7K) by hermionesmydawg / @anthonystan
Summary: Bucky Barnes has a few problems with his new neighbor: 1. He's hot 2. He's loud 3. He might be a secret superhero
if your heart's still open (Rated: E, Words: 8K) by steveandbucky
Summary: “What’s wrong, Buck?” “You really gotta ask that?” “Yeah, I do.” Steve clenches his jaw. “You were the one who ended things.”
WIP
Gold Must Be Tried By Fire (Rated: M, Current Words: 28K) by lavenderpanic / @lavenderpanic
Summary: The pamphlets about escaping abuse always glossed over this part, and Bucky finally understands why. Nobody would fucking leave if they knew how hard recovery would be. In the midst of a trial that questions every hard-won truth out of Bucky’s mouth, can he possibly allow himself to heal- physically and mentally? **Sequel to I Am Ash From Your Fire**
The Life of Jamie Barnes (Rated: M, Current Words: 9K) by deadto27 / @deadto27
Summary: The continuing adventures of Steve, Bucky and baby James from the Heart of Mine series through the years.
Rereads
Nothing Good Ever Happens on a Tuesday (Rated: T, Words: 28K) by megs_bee
Summary: Recently discharged soldier James Barnes is back in Brooklyn, down an arm and missing five years of memories, but he’s got his PTSD mostly under control, a fancy metal prosthetic, and what’s starting to feel like it could be a half-decent life. What he doesn’t have is any memory of the kid looking at James and asking him, “Are you my daddy?” -- or the gorgeous blond guy standing next to her. Steve Rogers lost his best friend Bucky five years ago, with no warning and no answers when he tried to find out what happened. So it was one hell of a surprise to walk into the grocery store one afternoon and come face to face with the man he thought was dead.
Prince Charming (Rated: E, Words: 55K) by Brenda / @brendaonao3
Summary: Bucky Barnes leads quite the charmed life. He has a thriving tattoo shop, a son he adores, the world’s best dogs, and a great group of friends — almost all of whom are in relationships. And maybe he'd been the one nudging them towards each other, but there's nothing wrong with a little match-making. The world could use more romance. As for him personally, well, he doesn’t need anyone for the long haul. Not when every girl he meets is someone who he thinks would be perfect for someone else. But then Steve Rogers comes into his shop looking for some ink, and maybe that’s the problem right there. Maybe what he's looking for in a relationship isn't a girl at all.

MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Echo notices not long after he joins them.
He feels more at home with Clone Force 99 than he would have back with the 501st. The “regs” they called them. Even on the cramped ship that’s too small already, he feels a sense of comfort. Of course, in such cramped quarters, it doesn’t take him long to notice things.
You, the squad’s medic, had been the most welcoming at first. You had been there, on Skako Minor, waiting with the ship for them to return. You’d spoken so softly, so sweetly to him, talking him through everything as you scanned his body for potential injuries. You’d wrapped him in a blanket, warming his frosted skin as much as physically possible. You hadn’t done any more than you needed to, not wanting to cause him any more stress than he was already feeling.
He hadn’t fallen in love in that moment, per se, but he had grown to like you first, before the others.
That wasn’t entirely the reason why he noticed it so quickly.
It was hard to miss.
The first were the touches. In close quarters it was hard to avoid sometimes, but this was more than that. Most recently had been coming in to land for their latest mission. You had been standing next to the seat Hunter was sitting in, in the cockpit. He had slipped a hand between your legs to grip your inner thigh and tug you closer to him. It had been far too high to be only Hunter keeping you steady as Tech expertly landed the ship.
You hadn’t seemed to care at all.
Then the proximity. You stood close to them. Very close. Even Crosshair who kept as much personal space as possible allowed you to break into that circle.
It wasn’t just you. They hovered as well, standing closer than regulation would approve of when you talked, sometimes so close you had to be breathing the same air.
Then the lingering glances. When you passed by them, their eyes would follow. When you were busy taking inventory, sorting through supplies, reading away at your datapad, they’d be sitting watching you. Their eyes would trail your form, very visible beneath your tactical suit. You don’t go out into the field with them, but due to their status as an independent squad, you wore tactical gear instead of the normal civilian medic scrubs. It had been modified, slightly of course, thanks to Tech. Despite the fact you never saw any combat, you had greater protection around vital areas just in case.
Something’s going on. Something more than just the closeness of a squad. Something they’re all in on. He’s too afraid to ask.
Maybe he should have.
***
His first experience in Clone Force 99’s barracks is...something. It’s messy, as the Marauder is. There’s a smell too, something he can’t quite place. Something bad. None of the others even seem to notice, not even you. You toss your bag onto the couch before sitting at the table, leaning your back against it.
“We can rig up something for you, if you don’t want to sleep on the couch.” Hunter tells him, setting his own pack down.
His gaze flickers to you. There’s only four bunks. He doesn’t want to take your spot if that’s where you sleep. “But what about-”
“I rotate bunks.” You say, lips curling up in a smirk.
Hunter says your name, a warning growl in his voice. Echo’s only heard that tone once from him, when Tech had made a quick decision without informing anyone else during a fight. It had worked in their favor, but Hunter liked to know when he was going to do something reckless.
“What?” You ask, batting your eyelashes innocently. “He’s a smart man, he’s probably figured something out by now. It’s not like you’ve been trying very hard to hide it.”
So he had been right. There were things, things beyond just the normal gawking of men enclosed in a tight space with a beautiful woman. You are beautiful. He can’t blame them for staring, or touching. It’s not exactly forbidden. He knows the kinds of things that happen during shore leave. But that was shore leave, far from the GAR and those that would report to higher-ups the goings on in the private lives of troopers.
Hunter had told him the little shore leave they get they spend here on Kamino, far from Coruscant and where the other troopers spend their free time.
An easier place to get caught.
He knows the consequences of doing it, the consequences of getting caught. The reprimanding, the possible decommissioning.
He stares at you wide eyed, Hunter passing him to stand in front of you. “That’s...against the-”
“What, against the rules?” Crosshair says, leaning against a crate. “You’ll be quick to learn we’re not exactly ones for following the rules.”
“It’s tradition.” Hunter says, hand cupping your chin to lift your gaze to him. You stare up at him, something shining in your eyes. Love? No, not quite. “Perhaps this time it can be more of an...initiation.”
“If you want.” You say, turning to look at Echo once more. You’re staring at him like you did when you first met him on the flight back from Skako Minor. Your tone is the same too, that gentle, disarming voice used to calm nervous patients. Your lips turn up in a soft smile, a complete 180 from the salacious look you had been wearing seconds ago. “You don’t have to, if you’re uncomfortable. You can always go and get dinner, give us a couple hours.”
He should. He should walk out the door and pretend he’s not about to watch his new squad’s medic act inappropriately with the other members of the squad. You don’t seem to have any complaints. There was no coercion on their part, at least that he could tell. You want this as much as they seem to do. They all move towards the table, hovering around it, around you.
You’re beautiful. You truly are. He’d be crazy to try and deny that. He can’t blame them, and perhaps if he had still been like he was before, he’d have tried to shoot his shot.
You rest your elbow on the table, leaning your head against your hand. “It’s up to you, handsome. You can always just watch, if that’s what you’d prefer.”
There’s a tense moment of silence, everyone still as you stare at Echo. He swallows thickly, knowing he should walk out while he still can, but he’s not sure he wants to. Maybe he does want to see this. Maybe he does want to partake. You seem so willing, so ready.
Hunter grabs your chin, yanking your face back to him. It’s rough, the sweetness in your eyes disappearing again, being replaced by the lusty look that had been in them before. Hunter presses his gloved thumb against your lips and you eagerly take it into your mouth.
He’s screwed. He’s so kriffing screwed.
Hunter stares at you as you suck on his thumb, seeming to silently communicate. This isn’t a new thing. You’ve been doing this for a while. Hunter pulls his thumb from your mouth, dropping his fingers to the neck of your tactical suit, tugging on it gently. “Off.”
You stand, Hunter stepping back. You begin to undress, pulling off your gear and tactical suit. Echo can’t help but avert his gaze as you pull off your breastband, his face feeling warmer than usual. You’re not the first naked woman he’s seen, but this is different. He’s not supposed to be seeing you naked.
His eyes dart back to you as you move, lifting yourself onto the table. His face feels warmer than usual as he stares at you, taking in every curve and slope of your body. You bend your legs, pressing your heels into the table, spread wide enough for even him to see the slick folds between your thighs.
“Get yourself ready, mesh’la.” Hunter says, his voice deeper than usual.
You lay back on the table, tracing a hand down your body. Echo can hear the thud of codpieces hitting the floor, but his eyes are focused on your hand as it dips lower and lower.
Your fingers run through folds, gathering some wetness. You slip a finger inside, letting out a breathy sound. Your other hand drops down to circle your clit slowly as you work your finger in, stretching yourself out. Your head falls back as you add a second finger, slowly picking up the pace.
Echo’s eyes focus on your lips, parted as you moan quietly. Anyone could walk in. Anyone could see you like this. The risks are so high, but no one seems to care.
You’re close, your fingers thrusting into you hard as you desperately chase your orgasm. Hunter turns his head, glancing at Crosshair. The sniper smirks, pulling his toothpick from his lips before flicking it across the room. He steps up to you, fingers wrapping around your wrist before tugging your hand from your pussy. You let out a whine in complaint, Crosshair tugging you up to sit.
“Aww man, why don’t I ever get to go first?” Wrecker complains.
“Because you’d rip her in half.” Crosshair says, delivering a sharp slap to your thigh as you maneuver yourself. You bend over the table, resting your head so you can see Echo. You make eye contact with him, lips parted as you breathe.
Crosshair’s thin fingers trail down your spine, your back arching to press your ass up. His other hand frees himself from his blacks, jerking his hard length. You moan as he presses his cock into your slick pussy, lifting up on your toes to take him deeper. Crosshair groans as he settles inside you, hands dropping to grip your hips.
You brace yourself on the table as Crosshair begins to move, pushing your hips back to meet his thrusts. You let out the most salacious sounds, Crosshair’s hand tangling in your hair to pull your head up. Tech steps up in front of you, slipping a hand into his blacks to draw out his cock. You open your mouth, waiting expectantly for Tech.
He presses his cock into your mouth, his own hand taking the place of Crosshair’s. Crosshair picks up the pace, snapping his hips into yours. The sound of his hips hitting your ass, and the wet squelch of your pussy are loud. Echo glances nervously at the door. If someone stood too close to the door, they could probably figure out what was going on.
No one else seems to care, though. They’re not stopping, nor attempting to be any quieter.
The only things that have been silenced are your moans, muffled by Tech’s cock in your mouth. You’re moaning and whimpering, at the mercy of the two clones as they use your body. Crosshair slips a hand under you, fingers rubbing your clit.
Your body shudders as you cum, letting out a high pitched moan around Tech’s cock. Crosshair groans as he stills, cumming inside you. Crosshair pulls free, Tech not slowing at all. Wrecker steps up, taking Crosshair’s place. He runs his fingers along your slit, gathering Crosshair’s seed that’s beginning to seep out of you, using his thick fingers to push it back in.
You moan around Tech’s cock, pushing yourself up on your elbows. There’s a pool of drool forming on the table under you, more stringing between your lips and Tech’s cock as he pulls free for a second. Wrecker takes advantage, pressing the thick head of his cock against your slit.
Your eyes squeeze closed, body relaxing as he presses into your pussy. You whimper at the stretch, body gaping around his thick cock. Your head ducks down, hand lifting to jerk Tech’s cock as Wrecker presses further in. Hunter steps up to your side, carding his fingers through your hair. It’s so soft and gentle, such a change from what had just happened.
You whine, hips shifting against Wrecker’s hold. “Too much.”
“You can take it, mesh’la.” Wrecker groans.
“Good girl,” Hunter praises, still stroking your hair. “Be a good girl and take him.”
You let out another pathetic whine, legs shaking by the time Wrecker is completely seated inside you. Hunter gently guides your head back up, Tech slipping his cock back into your mouth. You grip the edge of the table as Wrecker begins to move, slow thrusts as your body stretches around his cock.
Echo’s hands have curled into fists at his sides, his cock pressing uncomfortably against his codpiece. He never would have thought he could be turned on by something like this, but the sounds, the way your body moves so seamlessly with them, the noises coming from you...it’s all too much.
Tech grits his teeth as he stills, cumming into your mouth. You take all of him, swallowing his load. Wrecker pulls you up, holding your back to his chest as he cums with a loud groan, spilling into you. Tech slaps a hand over your mouth as you nearly scream, soaking the table and the floor with your orgasm.
Wrecker laughs rapturously, holding you up as you practically go limp in his arms. “Got another one!”
“Yes, well, you do have the anatomical advantage when it comes to producing such a result.” Tech says. “For some of us, it takes actual skill.”
Wrecker lays you on the table on your back, your body limp as you breathe heavily. “Yeah, well I’ve done it more times than anyone.”
“Enough.” Hunter says, stepping around the table to where you’re laying. “You can debate skills later. We’re not finished here yet.”
Their gazes all turn back to you, Hunter stepping between your legs. He reaches up, stroking your cheek gently. “Hi, mesh’la. Still with us?”
You nod, leaning into his touch. “Present, Sergeant.”
Hunter smirks, reaching down with his other hand to pull out his cock. “Good girl.”
You let out a little whine at the praise, his hands folding your legs against your chest. You hold the backs of your knees, keeping your legs in place.
Hunter smiles, trailing his hand down your front. “Such a good girl for us.” His fingers circle your clit, your legs twitching. “Can you take one more?”
You nod, looking absolutely fucked out as you stare up at him. “Yes, sir.”
He smiles, moving his hand to press against the back of your thigh as he guides his cock to your slit. You groan as he presses into you, giving you no time to adjust as he begins moving his hips. You make the sweetest little noises as he fucks you, eyes trained on him.
It feels different than with the others, softer and more intense. Echo wonders if it’s simply the dynamic. The others pick you apart and Hunter pieces you back together. He can’t help but be curious. How had this started? How long had it taken? Who was first? You’d probably tell him if he asked. It wasn’t like you were hiding it anymore. Not that you really had been from the start.
Your knuckles are white where they’re gripping under your knees as Hunter rolls his hips against yours. He can tell just by the sounds you’re making how close you are. He can already pick up the cues your body gives.
Hunter grips your hips, pulling you to the very edge of the table. His movements change, thrusting shallowly into you. Your legs begin to shake, moans getting louder and higher pitched. He knows what’s coming already, your hips jerking as you soak the front of Hunter’s armor, sending a squirting into the air and onto the floor. Hunter takes his cock in his hand, jerking it a couple times before he cums onto your pussy and thighs.
Wrecker stares in disbelief, making a disappointed noise.
“Looks like you won’t be in the lead for much longer.” Crosshair teases, slipping a toothpick back into his mouth.
Tech grabs a questionable looking towel off the floor, wiping down the table and the floor. You let your legs go, both flopping bonelessly over the edge of the table.
“So?” Hunter says, turning to Echo. He’s still standing between your thighs, the front of his armor dripping from your explosive orgasm. “What do you think of our girl?”
Echo’s throat feels constricted. He’s not sure he could speak if he wanted to. He’s hard, fists still clenched at his sides.
“You’re a part of this squad now.” Hunter says, placing a gentle hand on your stomach. “Which means you can be part of this if you want.” He glances down at you. “She’d like you to be, wouldn’t you, cyare?”
You nod, still lying limp on the table. “Want your cock, Echo.” Your voice is raw, hardly more than a murmur.
Hunter stares at him, waiting for an answer. Echo knows he can say no. You’ll be disappointed but not upset. He should say no. You’ve had enough, he can tell, but the way you’d worked Tech with your mouth, giving control over to him. His cock twitches at the thought.
“So, how do you want her?” Hunter asks.
“I-I want her mouth.” Echo finally says, stumbling over the words.
Hunter helps you sit up, easing you off the table. “Come on, mesh’la. Show him what you can do with that pretty little mouth.”
You take the couple steps to him with a distinctive limp, dropping to your knees. You’re hazy eyed and soaked with sweat, sticky from your cum and theirs. You look absolutely fucked. If someone walked in, there would be no question. All they’d have to do is look at you to know what had transpired in the barracks.
You wait patiently on your knees as Echo reaches into his blacks pulling his hard cock out. You lean forward and for a moment he’s worried you’re passing out, but instead you stick your tongue out, running it along the bottom side of his length. His jaw clenches, hand closing around the base of his cock so he doesn’t cum immediately and embarrass himself. It’s been a long time since he’s felt anything, and your warm mouth might send him straight into space.
You grip his thighs as you lick along his length, swirling your tongue over his head. Your eyes lift, no longer hazy as they meet his, staring deeply into them as you take him into your mouth. He keeps hold of his cock, watching as you sink lower and lower until your lips are pressing against his hand. He swallows thickly, the warmth of your mouth and the press of your tongue almost too much.
He understands now. Not that he hadn’t before, but he can see how they’ve all fallen so heavily for you, risking being discovered just for this. Just for you.
You bob your head, fucking his cock with your mouth. He desperately squeezes the base, not wanting to cum just yet. He holds on for dear life, keeping his gaze locked to yours as you suck the very soul out of him.
He lets go, cumming with a curse as he spills into your mouth. You swallow around him, taking every last drop before releasing him. You lick at his head, cleaning every last drop before you sit back, licking your lips.
Hunter steps up next to you, gently patting your head. “Good girl.”
Wrecker helps you into the ‘fresher, Tech cleaning up the rest of the mess you had made. Echo tucks himself back in his blacks, trying to wrap his head around what had just happened. Two years ago he would have never considered taking a civilian medic to bed, much less with his own squad. They’re so nonchalant about it, slipping back into their routines almost instantly.
When he had first met you, he would have never thought you did something like this behind closed doors. It’s not hard to see why they would take advantage of your willingness, though. You’re captivating, not just in your skills and your beauty.
Kriff, he’s in deep now.
He’s not as upset about it as he should be.

I was talking with one of my best friends about Star Wars characters being brought back and the possibility that Tech might return in a future work, and realized that even though TBB has ended, Star Wars has a really high track record of bringing back characters in other works, set after their supposed "death." Basically, no one ever comes back in the same movie/show/work they "died" in:
Maul: "died" in The Phantom Menace, brought back in The Clone Wars.
Gregor: "died" in The Clone Wars, brought back quite some time later in Rebels (and The Bad Batch, which comes first chronologically)
Echo: "died" in The Clone Wars, brought back SEVERAL YEARS LATER in the seventh season (I'm counting this as a separate show because it was not continuous - the show was revived)
Boba Fett: "died" in Return of the Jedi, brought back in The Mandalorian. DECADES LATER.
Asajj Ventress: "died" (died? like actually?) in Dark Disciple, brought back in The Bad Batch
Palpatine: somehow Palpatine returned
I feel like I'm missing some, but you get the point. The only ones I can think of who have died and come back in the same series are Ahsoka in Rebels and Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian.
There are also a couple characters whose fates have been left purposely open in order to have the possibility of bringing them back. Sev from Republic Commando is one who comes to mind. He is left behind in a war zone on a mission, and while Karen Traviss (author of the RepComm books) wanted to continue his story in a novel, Star Wars told her no because they wanted to keep plans open for Sev at a later time. We haven't gotten any additional Sev content yet, but his fate still isn't sealed.
Another is Mace Windu. I know George Lucas was like "he is dead for sure" but fans really want him back and so does Samuel L Jackson. I can see George changing his mind. Windu is a badass and beloved by fans. Another character who "fell," no body no death, and people are pretty adamant about getting him back because they liked him so much.
What I am trying to say is that Tech is a fan-favorite character whose story felt unfinished to many viewers. I'd say most of us were waiting every episode of season 3 for him to return, and the writers know that. Jennifer Corbett is on twitter and is very aware that "Tech Lives" is a huge thing in the Bad Batch fandom.
There are more animated works planned, as well: we know that Omega will likely appear again as an adult. There's like a 95% chance that a clone rebellion series is in the works, considering that they set it up in The Bad Batch. And Nika Futterman has hinted that Ventress will be appearing in future works. Tech could (and SHOULD) be brought back in any of these!
So yeah.... TECH LIVES

Darkness on Umbara Chp.6 (Rex x Reader)
Tumblr media
Chapter 5. Chapter 7.
The Gorge
cw: Rex x Reader, Reader is a medic, incorrect military procedure, graphic descriptions of injuries, blood, swearing, death and battle, Spoilers for the Umbara Arc, Pong Krell is an asshole, reader insert, names of non-canon dead clones, reader is gender neutral, no use of (Y/N), if i miss a tag LMK
Minors DN
Airbase.
That’s the priority. That's why the 501st had retreated away from the capital.
A fucking airbase.
You could see it in the distance from where you were. The tall tower was clearly marked by a bright pillar of light that reached towards the clouds.
As Fives, Krell and Rex inspected the area on a cliffside, you and Kix weaved around the men, treating any injuries you saw. Sadly, painkillers were getting to low levels, so you decided to use them for the truly brutal wounds. For those you had to deem were suffering beyond comprehension.
You regretted using them on yourself.
But, everyone else…well, they were big boys. They just had to handle it. Judging by the uninterested look that Hardcase had while Kix stitched up his shoulder, you were confident that the men weren’t going to complain.
Your gaze swept over the battalion. The dark, tentacle-like trees had fanned out from the jungle, allowing an easier view of the soldiers. You counted the silhouettes, their white and blue armor stark against the ash colored ground.
By the end you were right. A majority of the battalion had been injured in some way. Wounds were expected. But this many…It was getting hard to keep up, and judging by the way Kix swayed slightly when he stood, he was feeling the same thing.
“Alright men, we’re splitting the battalion,” Rex called, getting everyone at attention, “Half of you will remain here. The other half, follow me down to the gorge.”
You sighed and watched them go. Your tired steps were about to go to your medical speeder, but Krell halted you, “Doctor, you will be going with them.” He stepped between you and your goal, which was to resupply.
“Respectfully, sir,” you looked up into his small yellow eyes, “I think it would be better if I remained here and-.”
“My orders are for you to go with the platoons down to the gorge.” the besalisk crossed two of his four arms, surprisingly, he wasn’t yelling at you. Instead, his tone was icy and yet uninterested, “I’ve seen how you are during battle, and your expertise is wasted as a backline medic. You will be with the men on the front.”
You blinked and nodded. Was that a compliment?
“Understood, sir.” you saluted with your uninjured arm and followed the platoon. At this point, arguing with him about your training would only result in a bad outcome.
You found your position next to Kix, who looked very unhappy to see you, “please don’t tell me…”
“He complimented me,” you gave a sarcastic smile, “Said my expertise was wasted by not being on the front.”
Before Kix could respond, Rex began to speak, getting all the attention onto him, “Alright listen up!” His voice held authority with every word, “We’ll assemble the squads into two divisions. We’ll move straight up this gorge to the airbase on the far side.”
The medic beside you snapped, “The casualties are going to be high!”
Tup scoffed, “Is Krell trying to get us killed!?”
“You know, I wasn’t sure that Krell was crazy before.” Jesse snarled, helmet in his hand. He practically glared at Rex as he continued, “But now, I’m positive!”
“We had to retreat from the capital because the general pushed a flawed strategy!” It was Fives’ turn to argue, “Now this?”
Hardcase raised his heavy weapon, “I don’t know! Could be fun.”
“Well, I, for one, agree with the general's plan.” Dogma chimed in, seeming much more confident than anyone else.
“What plan?” You turned to face him, “Blindly rushing into the unknown without a care for the costs isn’t a plan!” Your words might’ve struck Rex, truthfully, you couldn’t look at him to find out.
You had all the faith in him. You just had no faith in Krell or his tactics. But arguing would seem like you were against your lover and not the temporary General.
“We are running out of time and this is the best option!”
Jesse spoke up again, royally pissed, “No recon? No air support? We don’t know what we’re up against!” He waved his helmet in the air in frustration, “They have weapons we’ve never seen before!” To punctuate his point, he tapped his helmet to his head a couple of times.
The 501st captain stepped forward, attempting to reason with everyone, “A few of General Skywalker’s plans seemed reckless too, but they worked.”
His words did little to ease the rising tempers, “Yeah, but General Skywalker is usually leading his men up in the front not bringing up the rear like General Krell!” Fives stepped towards Rex, riling up everyone else, “A full frontal assault would leave us too exposed!”
The other men rose up in dissatisfied chatter. They were clearly unhappy with the plan.
“We have to look at other options!”
“It's going to be a meat grinder!”
Rex sighed, frustration clear, “Fives.” He commanded the ARC trooper to follow. The two stepped away, out of earshot.
“What supplies do we have?” Kix turned to face you, “This…is going to be difficult.”
Wordlessly you took off your pack and knelt to go through the packs you carried. Luckily the both of you stocked up as well as you could from everything on the medical speeder. But it never hurts to check.
Bandages and bacta were the most needed, and hopefully, you had enough to see this through.
You attempted to get your pack back on by lifting it with your bad arm, only to drop it and hiss in pain.
“Damnit.” you swallowed, feeling the very bone pulse in agony. It’s only been a few hours since you were shot. Your arm was nowhere near healed.
Kix put a hand on your uninjured shoulder to hold you steady, “Take it easy.”
“I’m fine,” You mumbled, adjusting your pack, “The men have survived worse than this. How would it look if I burst into tears every time I get hurt?”
“Nearly getting your arm blasted off isn’t just ‘getting hurt’. If you need a break, the others will understand.” He argued softly.
You shook your head, “And what about you? You’ve been unsteady on your feet from exhaustion for hours and yet you still run around helping those who are wounded.”
“Only because you’ve been taking a majority of them.” Kix responded, though he didn’t argue with your point.
“Are you two done?” Dogma snapped from his position, “We’re about to start moving.”
“Hey, Dogma, have you considered shutting the fuck up?” An ARF trooper, Jumper, leaned forward on his AT-RT to silence the ground soldier, “How about you don’t pick a fight with the two people keeping all of us alive.”
“Hey-!”
“Everyone, enough.” Jesse finally stepped in to get everyone quiet, “Now is not the time or the place.” A mere minute later instructions were given.
You’d go with Rex and his half of the platoon. Kix would go with Fives and Hardcase and their half.
Splitting up…wonderful idea. There’s no way that could ever go wrong.
You hung back, keeping your position behind a majority of the men. Noct and Nax, however, were walking on either side of you. As if they were intending to guard you from threats. Your nod to them was in appreciation as both platoons marched forward slowly and carefully.
Three of those flying beasts that attacked on the main road flew overhead. They didn’t make a dive or move towards anyone on the ground. Instead, you’d think they were fleeing something.
A rapidly approaching rumble cut off your thoughts. The ground was shaking, and it was only getting worse. Nax grabbed your wrist to keep you steady as the vibrations got stronger and louder. Even the AT-RT’s were unstable from the sheer power of the sway.
You raised your comm and began to speak, “Kix, what is going-.”
In the distance, you heard the commotion. Shouting. Booms. It sounded like something was…howling?
Everything around you was shaking violently, and Kix finally responded, “We’re under attack!”
Without wait, Rex diverted off the original path to aid his brothers. You all ran as quickly as you could despite the dark, dense plant life that hindered your movements. Once you made it over the ridge, you paused, taking in the battle.
Chaos. Chaos and mayhem. At the center of it all, was a tank in the shape of a centipede, marked with blue lights. It roared before slamming down, killing all soldiers under its massive body.
“Get those rocket launchers down there! Move it troopers!” Rex commanded, pistols in hand and immediately running to aid the soldiers.
The blaster guns that ran down the centipede tanks back were firing in all directions, making it difficult to maneuver or navigate. Still, you managed to get close enough while remaining behind the cover of a massive tree and its roots.
One of the green shots hit Jumper’s AT-RT, killing him in a burst of neon flames.
Another name to your list.
“Watch out!” The ARF trooper next to you called as another tank shot up from the ground. He was hit almost instantly, knocking down from his vehicle. immediately your hands were on him and dragging him behind cover.
“I got you, Dia.” you reassured, pulling off his helmet.
Pupils uneven. Head injury. Concussion. Watch for seizures or signs of stroke. Traumatic brain injuries were difficult to deal with in such a chaotic environment, but you did what you could with the supplies you have.
One of the tanks swung its massive head, slamming into one of the troopers that had a much needed rocket launcher. He hit the ground, but curled his body to protect the precious weapon. Once the Umbaran tank turned to continue its destruction, Kix leapt out from the black and red foliage. Thank whatever gods decided to keep him alive!
He grabbed the trooper just as Hardcase got the rocket launcher. You rushed out to join him, taking hold of one of the troopers shoulders, “Follow me!” You shouted, leading the medic to your position of cover hidden in the dense trees. When you returned, there were already several more injured that were taking refuge.
Behind you, there was another explosion. The now headless tank roared before it melted into a screech. Its massive silver and blue body twisted and spasmed as every section burst into flames and destruction. You spotted Fives and Hardcase sprinting to avoid getting hit by its thrashing legs.
Rex called out, tone commanding yet anxious, “Everyone regroup, now! Take cover!”
The platoons scattered, fleeing into the dark and foggy forest. Luckily the thick trunks and roots of the red, glowing trees were condensed enough the tanks couldn’t push through.
“Move it! Move it!”
“Let's go!”
“Go! Go! Go!”
You swallowed and looked up at Rex. He was breathing heavily, but still standing. However, you didn’t miss the blood on his wrist.
You reached into a small pack on your thigh and took out clean bandages as you approached. He would always opt for bandages and not bacta. At every battle, if he got hurt, he’d reject the medicine, saying ‘save it for the next soldier you treat.’ So you’ve learned to just accept his selflessness and use standard first-aid supplies if the wounds weren’t so bad.
“We’re safe for the moment, but they’ll be coming around any second,” He continued to lead the men, not stopping even when you grabbed his wrist and began to bandage it up, “Bring up the launchers, spread detonators along that corridor. Trap them in the bottleneck.” The captain nodded in appreciation once you finished your work. He continued, “We’re going to blow those things sky high.”
Fives rushed past you to a soldier, Hana, who carried explosives in a large pack. He grabbed several of the bombs before running with the other to the narrow part of the gorge. Several others followed the ARC trooper.
You remained with the injured, just like Kix. Your focus was on the trooper, Hek, in your arms working to stem the bleeding on his chest. However, no matter what you tried, he slipped away under your hands.
Hek. One more death to blame on Krell.
Your priority shifted to Silk, who had sat down and waited patiently with a bleeding, smoldering neck and shoulder wound. Either he was the most patient man in existence, or mentally gone. It didn’t matter though, because you began to patch him up, using whatever you could to save him.
After a few moments, the ground shook violently again, causing you to hold him close to your chest to protect. From the direction of where the men placed bombs, you heard the booms and crackles of their explosives detonating. The tanks they destroyed howled and wailed as it sounded like they crashed into one another, ripping each other apart.
Soldiers had run back to your position to take cover from the resulting explosions. Hardcase dove to your right, getting behind the massive root protecting everyone from the fire. Rex, who was thrown from the force of the bombs, landed on his front right next to you and Silk. Fives and Jesse stumbled, also hitting the dirt after getting shoved by the burst of heat and flames.
It was a few seconds later when your ears were blessed with silence. Seemed everyone was waiting for…something. Another attack? Or just appreciating the brief moment of calm.
The captain got onto one knee, turned his head to you, and his shoulders slumped slightly with relief, “Good job.” he stood, addressing his men, “Be ready to move out in five.”
Five minutes to rest.
Hardly enough time for you and Kix to tend to all those that were sporting injuries, but you could at least handle the more serious cases. And in those five minutes, despite your best efforts….
Fyre. Vim. Oz. Ringo. North. Gabe. Tro. Tess. Zeb. Sante. Reign. Pheon. Dawn. Nim. Jamie. Jumper. Hek. Recon. Mav. Zeo.
You added a few more names to the list of the dead.

So, I know you don't commonly really write for steddie, and you don't have to write this if you don't wanna. But what about Like, reader graduates hawkins high and goes of to college (eddie is probably still held back for his last year???) And when she left she was more on the quite side, soft color pallet, kinda stariotypical pastel sunshine character. And she comes back for the summer and she's like, more punk-ish??? Like a few more piercings, and same kinda quite personality but kinda different aesthetic?
I think you could do something similar with poly!marauders as well, where same thing happens but it's over the summer between years?
Idk, you dont even have to write it, I just have a stupid soft spot for this weird trope/character arc. Make sure to take care of yourself and have a lovely day!!!!!
I'm happy to write for any characters on my list, thanks for requesting gorgeous! Hope you're having a lovely day and taking care of yourself as well <3
Steddie x fem!reader ♡ 637 words
Steve and Eddie are scanning the crowd for you up until the very moment you come up to them. Even then, it takes Eddie a second to recognize you.
“Hey,” you say, tentative.
“Hey,” Steve says, stepping forward. “Shit, honey, come here.”
You grin, some of the apprehension easing from your features as you hug him.
“Shit,” Eddie agrees, wrapping his arms around the both of you. “Almost didn’t recognize you, sunshine.”
Sunshine might not even be the best nickname for you now. When you’d left for college last fall, you’d looked like the rainbow had befriended you personally. All pastels, colorful sweaters and flowy little skirts. Now, it’s like you’ve been plucked from a graphic novel. Your clothes are dark down to the shoes, with ripped black tights under your shorts and lace-up combat boots that, frankly, Eddie thinks might get a little hot in the Indiana summer. He wonders if you’d be amenable to him calling you his little bat. Or witchling, maybe? He’ll have to workshop it.
“You look so different.” Steve sounds positively flabbergasted, stepping back to take you in more fully. “I mean, not a bad different, I just—wow, it’s really…” Eddie snickers. In his opinion, you look far less like someone Steve Harrington would ordinarily date (the girl next door, preppy style, Nancy Wheeler clone) and more like someone he would (cool as fuck). Luckily for you, they both love you down to your ooey gooey core no matter how you present yourself.
“It’s a new look, babe, and it’s fucking sick,” Eddie summarizes. “Is this what college does to people? Maybe I should come visit.”
You roll your eyes at him, flushing faintly. Another pro of your new style: the pink of your face stands out ever-so-much-more brilliantly against your new dark palate.
“I’m serious, sweetheart,” Eddie goes on, delighting in watching your color change. “I need you to start coming to my shows so we can lure in your crowd. You’re too fucking cool for us now.”
Your shoulders start to come up around your ears, but Steve saves you, tucking you under his arm with a kiss to the top of your head. “She was always too cool for us,” he says. It’s the truth, and Eddie sends you a wink to make sure you know he knows it. “You look amazing, really. God, we’ve missed you so—is that a tattoo?”
Eddie all but lunges for you. “Where?”
“Here,” Steve says, stretching the collar of your shirt over your shoulder, where an inky design sits starkly against your skin. “Shit, this is so cool.” Eddie jostles for space, head squishing between yours and Steve’s to get a better look. “It really works for you.”
You smile bashfully. “Thanks.”
“Fuck me,” Eddie breathes, and you shiver pleasantly as his breath his your shoulder. “Actually, if I can get us to Steve’s in five minutes, would you top me right now? This is too fucking hot—oh, don’t look at me like that, Stevie boy. You know you like it too.”
“I do,” Steve says, giving Eddie a look that’s probably aiming for stern but only hitting fond as he tries to coax your face from his chest. “It looks great honey, when did you get this?”
Your voice is characteristically quiet, but a bit proud, when you say, “That one’s from a couple months ago. I got my first last November, though.”
“Your first?” Eddie’s gobsmacked. “How many are there? Wait, no, don’t tell me.” He grabs you by the legs, hoisting you over his shoulder. “I wanna find ‘em.”
“Eds, put me down!” You hiss in his ear, but your words are undercut by giggles. “Steve!”
“Sorry, but I’m kinda on board with this one,” Steve says with an apologetic shrug in your direction. He tosses Eddie the keys.

I keep thinking about the difference between Cody and Wolffe in The Bad Batch, not just in their view of the Empire but their knowledge of what’s been going on.
Tumblr media
When Crosshair meets with Cody again in season 2, Cody knows that clones have been going AWOL including The Bad Batch and Rex. The way he talks about clones ‘questioning the order’ cautiously to Crosshair, watching for his reaction, it definitely seems like he’s been questioning his loyalty to the empire too and after one more mission he’s ready to go AWOL himself. He’s not blind to the Empire’s true nature and he knows that clones are leaving.
Wolffe, on the other hand, seems genuinely confused when he arrives on Teth to find the insurgents he’s been sent to fight are clones. He literally thought that Rex was dead. He also doesn’t seem to realise that the Empire is different to the Republic - he says he’ll make sure Rex gets a fair trial, as if that would ever happen under the Empire!
Tumblr media
Wolffe says that the ‘reports’ said that Rex was killed in action just after Order 66, but if that’s the case, how does Cody know? Does Cody have access to other reports or maybe he’s heard rumours of a clone helping other clones escape and worked out it’s him? Or did someone tell him? If so who? Maybe I missed something or have forgotten, but like how does he know when it doesn’t seem like common knowledge??
I also wonder if their differing view of the Empire is because of their different missions - maybe Cody has seen the Empire’s brutality first hand more than Wolffe has? Or maybe because Cody is so high up he sees more of the bigger picture? Maybe he becomes disillusioned when the Empire brings in idiots like Rampart who don’t take his views or experience into account, maybe he sees that the clones are seen as expendable after having to deal with Rampart and the others?
I really hope we get a Clone Rebellion show or Tale of the Clones or something so we get to find out what happens to both of them and to explore their characters in relation to the Empire.

Because I have a tendency to get stuck in art blocks and s t r u g g l e badly with composition, and because I think The Bad Batch is a beautifully shot show, I’ve started doing rough grayscale studies of bad batch to unpack how line and value can be used to direct a viewer’s eye to where people want the audience to look. (I’m doing it with other movies and shows, but I do really like TBB, so….) That way, if I’m sitting in a period where I can’t draw, then maybe I can at least learn something. It’s not fan art, it’s just trying to break the composition down and make it make sense to me, but I think it’s interesting so I figured I’d throw them all here.
So! Potentially very boring things under the cut:
The thing that started this off was getting sent a gifset of the scene in “The Return” where Wrecker gives Crosshair his armor back. It’s a great scene, and one of the things that allows for the show to pull that moment off is the way that most everything in many of the shots is designed to draw the viewer’s attention to Crosshair’s face so that we’re paying attention to his reaction. For example:
Tumblr media
It’s not a very high contrast shot, but if we block out the basics, most of the lines in the scene are directing us towards Crosshair. Both Wrecker and Omega make movements towards him in this shot, and then this movement is sort of carried over to Crosshair via the various lines in the background/Wrecker’s arm/even the crate. Additionally, our eyes tend to be drawn towards points of highest contract, which, in this shot, include the lamps in the far background against the pillars (forming a line from Wrecker to Crosshair) and the light hitting Crosshair’s face against the much darker background. Between all of this most people in the audience are going to end up automatically looking right at Crosshair who is, of course, the main person we’re supposed to paying attention to here.
This isn’t actually a full frame. I sort of grabbed a screenshot over the interwebs for this one, but The Bad Batch actually has a very wide aspect ratio. From what I understand it’s shot and aired in a CinemaScope ratio (2:39:1 or 2:35:1, though TBB is 2:39:1). It’s basically super ultra widescreen, an aspect ratio used when a filmmaker wants to make something feel more epic or cinematic, and as far as I know it’s the same aspect ratio used for the original trilogy before any cropping happened. (For reference, The Clone Wars was also shot in a CinemaScope ratio, 2:35:1, but was cropped to 16:9 for airing on Cartoon Network, and Rebels was shot and aired in 1:78/more or less 16:9.) So an uncropped screenshot of TBB would look more like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is from “The Outpost.” It’s actually a fairly dark shot with Crosshair faced away from the camera and the value of his figure blending right into the rest of the foreground, which actually comes communicate a sense of someone who isn’t trying to draw attention to themselves (to me, anyway), but our eyes are drawn to Crosshair anyway by every major line in the shot as well as the highest point of contrast converging right over Crosshair’s shoulder. That, and the line of his rifle/shoulder and the support pole forming a big, well, cross-hair right in that same spot. Otherwise, he would blend right into the foreground and be easier to miss.
Unlike Hunter in this shot from “Plan 99”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where basically you’ve got the exact same thing happening, every line in the shot converges on Hunter’s location, but instead of using just high contrast to draw our attention, we’ve got a fairly middle-gray scene with our eyes being drawn to the focal point by having one bright spotlight.
The orange cross mark I’ve drawn here is just to mark the center of the frame, which I wanted to point out since, at least as far as I’ve noticed, TBB has a tendency to save center and slightly off-center shots for really specific moments. I’d have to check on that and what the pattern is, though, since a few of the remaining shots in this post are center shot. (Filmmakers area generally taught shoot in thirds or, alternatively, on a phi grid or other away from center set of focal points, though you do get some center shot movies and shows. I think Raiders of the Lost Arc has a lot of center shots.)
In fact, a pretty good example of shooting in thirds (or on a phi grid—I laid it out and I think it fits the phi grid slightly better) is this shot from “Faster”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where you’ve got Tech and Tay-0 placed on slightly close thirds on either side of the frame. If we’re just looking at line and value, with this shot we actually get this sort of interesting back and forth between where our eye is being drawn. A lot of the lines in the shot are directing us to look at Tech, but then you’ve got one of the lines going through, and the sweep of Tech’s arm and datapad pointing towards, Tay-0, whose face and body are outlined with a much higher contrast in value. And then we have that one very bold arc connecting the two. The result of this is that our eyes sort of bounce back and forth between these two characters as they get into their conversation.
Most of these shots have had just one or two (at most three) characters, and there are many scenes of TBB with everyone where our gaze is sort of directed to the group collectively, but sometimes you’ll have group scene where our attention is directed more towards one individual than others, like with this shot from “Battle Scars”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, you’ve got most of the lines in the shot converging towards Rex as well as Rex’s person serving as the point of highest contrast while everyone else sort of melds into the background in terms of value. He’s also the first (and maybe only) figure who breaks fully above objects in the background to be shot directly against the sky. Line and value aren’t the only things directing the audience’s gaze towards Rex in this shot—there’s actually a lot of desaturation happening as we move from Rex, to the other characters, to the far background that helps as well, buuuuut this is a grayscale breakdown so that unfortunately doesn’t show up...here. (This is a center shot scene if we’re going horizontally, but Rex’s head, which is really the focal point, is right around the top third of the frame; it’s not exactly a low angle shot, but we are still looking up at him.)
Anyway, the reason any of this is important is because when you’re shooting with an incredibly wide aspect ratio like this, there’s a LOT of information being conveyed with every frame. You can fit a lot of stuff on screen at once. And while people generally going to rewatch and pay attention to background details (if nothing else, TBB is a goldmine for those background details), you do want to draw your audience’s attention to the most important parts of the frame—especially when an individual shot typically lasts only a few seconds. Or less. Like with this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this shot from "Faster" is up for less than a second before the camera turns to follow the speeders and then changes to another shot, and I had a devil of a time even getting screengrab of it. (Mostly because I was trying to grab it on my phone, but that's not really the point.) In less than a second the people making this have to communicate where Tech's speeder is, what's happening, what we're even looking at, while the objects in the scene are all moving incredibly fast. .
So, to communicate that, you've got multiple speeders moving in the shot, but only one (Tech's) standing out in terms of value against a fairly dark ceiling, as well as a combination of some real direct one-point linear perspective and the more or less arrow shape of the ramp pointing directly at the point Tech's speeder is going to be when it reaches the peak of its crest over the ramp. That way we're already looking at where Tech is going to be before he gets there and end up following his speeder as he zooms by.

"Deeds, not words"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/n: Finally finished this and tbh I am very proud of how it came out even if I see that I could have done better in certain areas. I prefer the first one better, but tbh I love them both. I have scrambled together a little story to go along with this, although I do have to warn that the details of Jien and Proxy's story, how it really unfolds, is still subject to change. This drabble here is just me exploring ideas of how Proxy can start seeping more and more poison into Jien's life, but we'll see. To anyone that does read it, thank you <3 Mwah.
Contents: Syaoran, a technician of the team of Armed Archeologists, is accompanying Jien to Scalegorge Waterscape at the invite of a High Elder. What waits for them there is no warm welcome.
There is an odd tension in the air, so ill it made him sick. Scalegorge Waterscape had towering walls of water all around, and it felt as if they were ready to swallow him at any moment, the sky above being the only solace. The air was still with the smell of salt, and there was a quiet sound. Like the one a dog made before it growled.
Miss YueXia didn’t budge, and Syaoran judged it was because she was from these parts. Perhaps she felt at home even, but whether that was good or bad didn’t have space in their conversation with the Elder before them. And now he could sense that feeling of anger from Jien, he only wished he could see her face from where he stood, a step behind her. Did she look angry? Or was it that cold expression she once served the team after that messed up expedition?
“We have welcomed you into our fold and treated you as our own. Yet our eyes have reported your face sneaking about in the night around the Luofu, sowing suspicions and spreading gossip. Is this your way to show gratitude, YueXia?”
The Elder looked at Jien with cold suspicious eyes.
“High Elder, while I appreciate your invitation to meet me I fail to see how or why I would do such things, especially since I have not been on the Luofu in almost a year” she replied, cold and even tone, yet there was an unmistakable tinge of some need below it all - a need to make things right. A flicker of a flame.
“Moreover, I have never wished you or the people of Luofu any ill will and I have always advocated for the safety of the civilians as much as a Cloud Knight. Did you bring me here to confront me for something another has done?”
“Another?” the Elder bristled, arrogance rolling off of him like a cloak. “I have seen it myself, this ‘another’ was you. I saw your face in the darkness. And you dare lie to my face? The Disciples of Sanctus Medicus have been on the prowl and you with them. I knew the IPC wishes to get their clutches on the Vidyadhara, but I refused to believe you would aid in such a goal”
That is not true, Syaoran wanted to say, feeling his face twist in displeasure. Jien was against the Abundance, against the Disciples, the whole team knew, but even if she wasn’t - her team was. Syaoran knew Kaiya had a burning hatred for the Abundance and his wife was from the Xianzhou Yaoqing. He’d be the first to jump against any idea of Jien bringing any harm to Xianzhou Luofu, but everyone knew she’d sooner go mad than think of such schemes.
“Do you know how many you’ve hurt with your doings? And you wish to say my eyes are deceiving me as well?”
Jien’s eyes fell dark and darker still, her jaw stiff as she ground her teeth together, listening to the Elder talk without interrupting him.
“I meant no insult when I previously said you were mistaken in your assertion, but now you are accusing me and my team of inexcusable crimes and I will not tolerate such” Her tail brushed against the cold stone, pale and gnawed away by sea and time. “High Elder, I can assure you I had no chance to do such things, even if I had the plan to ever harm you and the people, which I remind you again - I never did and never will do. I was half a cosmos away. Do you propose I have, perhaps, cloned myself? I pray you don't jest, High Elder, and listen to what I have to say. Who you saw was not me, I swear on my life..” Jien put her hand over her heart to show her sincerity as the seams of her silence began to tighten and break.
The Elder Syaoran couldn’t remember the name of frowned deeply at her words, distrust swimming in his eyes, body taut as a bow string. “And you propose I believe you over the reports of countless others?”
“I cannot force you to put those reports aside and trust my word alone, but I hope the eyewitnesses of my team, as well as camera surveillance and date records of my passage through the cosmos can be proof enough to you and so many others that are holding the belief that I or any of my team have committed these crimes. I am more than willing to bring them all over here, to you, as soon as morning comes if that would let your mind let go of these beliefs” Jien sighed and shook her head a moment later. “Although, I do fail to see - if these crimes are so severe, I would have expected someone else to come and question me about them..” there was a mild insult interlaced between her words and tone, so skillfully that not even the Elder before her could point it out without sounding mad.
He only exhales a long breath through his nose. “You will be questioned by the Ten-lords Commission” he said, tone resolute. Syaoran could see Jien move her hands behind her back, her fingers forming into a fist. Somthing told Syaoran that the High Elder came to this decision on the spot.. “The evidence is overwhelming and not in your favor. But I will give you until morning to bring your evidence to us, and we’ll take it from there”

Celebrating You!
Hi guys! I’ve been on here for a bit now and while I never had a follower goal, I do appreciate you guys who have decided to follow me! So now I’d like to celebrate you!
Tumblr media
In light of TBB ending, and how much we'll be missing the boys, I thought this was as good as a time as ever!
Here’s the idea! I’m opening a prompt request for the dates of April 5th through May 5th, 2024 (you may start submitting now though!) and choose from the prompts below! You can choose one from each category, or just one category. It’s ok if it is just the prompt or the prompt and a brief idea. If you have a fun idea or prompt not listed, please share!
Tumblr media
Rules: I only write SFW. I typically write for clones; I reserve the right to refuse requests which make me uncomfortable for whatever reason. I have had a few requests in the past that really unsettled me for various reasons. Or if I don't know the character. I'd hate to try to write something then upset the person because it is so ooc that it's cringy. (But if I said I would write your request and haven't yet, I just honestly haven't gotten to it :D I like to do well on the stories you guys entrust to me so it does take me a bit :D)
This is supposed to be fun so lets keep it fun!
You may submit as many requests as you'd like! The more the merrier!
Characters: Star Wars Clone Wars or The Bad Batch (as long as I know them. I know a lot of clones but alas, not all.)
Story genre:
Classic SW! (Pick an era if they exist in more than one if you wish)
AU of choice (modern, western, pirate, mermaid, time traveling, etc if I’m unfamiliar with the genre, I may have to change it or request more details)
Dialogue Prompts:
“Don’t go where I can’t follow.”
“If we’re going to do this we’ll need—“ “A plan?” “No! Code names! Cool ones!”
“I don’t need to be anything to you. I just want my life to mean more to you than my death.”
“You are playing a dangerous game without even a glimpse of the rule book.”
“I’ve never been terrified of death, til he set his sights on you.”
“What the hell are you doing here?” “Yeah, you’re not allowed to ask that in this situation.”
“Where’s your shoe?” “The giant mud puddle in the road demanded a sacrifice.”
“Love at first sight doesn’t exist.” “Then how else do I describe the feeling I got when I first saw you?” “You…love me?” “Apparently not, according to you.”
“A fate worse than death….” “They’re burnt cupcakes.”
“White paint has more color than your face.”
“Why is there a dragon in my fridge?” “It was hot.”
“Touch **, and you’re dead.”
“I am the law.”
“Do that again and I’ll throw you out the window. Wait, what are you doing?” “Checking how high the drop is; seeing if it’s worth it.”
“I’d rather have you hate me than loose you entirely.”
“I have a mission but don’t know what it is.” “Well that sounds incredibly counterproductive.”
“I would like to join you in acknowledging the difficulties in your life.” “You are the worst at this comforting thing.”
“I don’t know if you’re aware of this but I’m quite petite.” “Really? I had no idea in our twelve years of friendship that you’re shorter than I am.”
“But what is power?” “Loyalty.”
“Don’t you sign to me in that tone.”
“I’m with him/her for better or worse.” “It’ll probably be worse.” “I knew that the day I met him/her.”
"I'm sorry I tried to kill you." "It's fine, but next time you should try harder."
"C'mon, like I need an excuse to spend time with you."
"You're not as bad as everyone says you are."
"The only one who gets to kill you is me."
“blood loss”? well it’s not lost. I know exactly where it went. right over there.”
“How the mighty have fallen!” “It’s a dropped chocolate bar, stop being dramatic.”
“Shit, we’re gonna die” “Now I don’t want to hear that negative attitude, look on the bright side!” “Yay! We’re gonna die! Woo!”
“How do you do it?” “How do I do what?” “Pretend you are ok.” “I’m not pretending.” “Yes, you are. Every single day and it breaks my heart.”
“Hey, so I know things are pretty f**** shitty right now but I need you to breathe for me.” “Wha-wh-wh-” “You’re having a panic attack. It’s gonna be ok. Just breathe with me.”
“Please, my arms—I can’t wipe my tears, don’t let them see!”
"Smiles are contagious!" "Don't worry, I'm vaccinated."
"I don't want to get involved, it's too risky." "Please do it for me, you're the only one I can turn to." "It's not worth it. You really want to lose everything? 'cause I don't."
"Do you ever think of anyone other than yourself?" "No"---a long pause---"actually yes, at Christmas time"
"There is a reason I go through that door first, It's to make sure everyone else walks back out"
“I can’t leave you here!” “You can and you will.”
"OH! Are you alright? Are you alright?" "Apart from being trapped under here, and maybe suffering from broken bones and embarrassment beyond what I am capable of handling. . . I'm dandy, why do you ask?"
Oh no, are you alright? You're covered in blood!" "Yes, it's yours, Now will you please let me take you to the hospital?"
"What did love ever do anything for anyone anyway?"
"What the hell were you even thinking?!" "You told me not to think!"
"With love comes loss, that's part of the deal. Sometimes it hurts, but in the end, it was all worth it. There's no greater gift than love."
“'Temporary stitches' all stitches are temporary if you have a pair of scissors and aren’t a coward" "What do you....that better not mean what I think you mean......" "Am I just talking about sewing stitches or sutures too? Maaayyybe?" "NO! Absolutely not!"
"I made the calculations, and boy am I bad at math."
"It'll be over soon, I promise."

Tumblr media
Heyyy @seeking-elsewhither. You know how I'm giving you a HFSW Bad Batcher a day until you stop being sick. Well since I missed it yesterday,,, and you need your guys,,, well I went to draw Tech and things got. Out of hand
Closeups and notes under the cut
Tumblr media
Goggles
You do not know how hard Tech's hair is to get right
So! His goggles I actually struggled over for months and months because, you know. They're hard to draw. And then I found these on Pinterest and all my problems were solved forever. (SERIOUSLY THOUGH I WANT THESE. I MEAN LOOKIT THEM THEY EVEN HAVE THE IMPERIAL INSIGNIA ON THE LENSES)
Now obviously my drawing skills mean I have to scale these down immensely but as you can see. These are not your everyday, run-of-the-mill goggles. Tech built them himself (actually most of his armor was either custom-built or modified) and so they've got some special features built in.
So Tech's an artificier, cause it's High Fantasy Star Wars, and they don't have computers but they sure as heck do have alchemy. One of his modifications is the addition of little lights mounted to the barrels of his lenses, for working at night/in low light, or with materials that need to be illuminated to function properly. The other main addition happens to be the extra magnification lenses mounted to his left lens barrel. He can adjust these as needed when working.
Tumblr media
Upper Body Armor
Bro really went ☝ (you know i had to do it to him)
Okay so in the absence of his datapad he carries around his journal. That he is constantly writing in. It also has a panel on the front cover in which he can store some of his vials, because I think that's cool and it's my AU and I Can Do What I Want.
In fact, his writing in his journal is so frequent that he actually has a pen holder mounted to his left pauldron, so when he needs to take a note of anything he can just reach over and lo and behold there it is. (He's also the in-universe inventor of pre-filled fountain pens, because it's too much of a hassle to pull out a quill and a bottle of ink any time he needs to write in the middle of the field.)
His upper arm "armor" actually consists of little bags he keeps various things in, including a bottle of ink for when he needs to refill his fountain pen. Other trinkets include small amounts of alchemical ingredients and small personal trinkets (including, after his ID ring is removed, the chains it was kept on. side side note but while the clones who had their rings removed destroyed the rings themselves, they kept the chains because of the symbolism of brotherhood they carried. a lot of them reworked them back into a single loop and wore them around their necks, like they did when they were cadets.).
And then of course there is the Backpack of Many Things (tm) in which he keeps his many things, including but not limited to: alchemical bottles (both full and empty), bags and boxes and tubes of alchemical ingredients (he has an organizational system), backup journals (for when his current journal fills up, currently he has somewhere around twenty-seven full journals and he's been keeping them consistently since he was at least four-eight), medical supplies (common sense), non-perishable food items (also common sense), a waterskin and several empty extras (also ALSO common sense), his wallet (also also ALSO common sense), and his work instruments (knives, mortar and pestle, stoppers, eyedroppers, stirring sticks, measuring cups, et cetera et cetera).
Tumblr media
Right Gauntlet Closeup
On his right arm, Tech wears a special leather gauntlet (as opposed to the metal bracer on his left arm) that, surprise surprise, also carries Things (tm).
He's got a little box (in which to keep miscellanea) that also functions as a holder for- you guessed it- more alchemical vials.
There's also a watch that double-functions as a thermometer and lunar calendar (there's a second face under the clock that has the thermometer, and the lunar calendar you see through a little cut-out window towards the bottom; it's got a little picture of the current phase of the moon in it).
This gauntlet doesn't have any heavy-duty finger armor on it cause he needs dexterous use of his dominant fingers. Also, it was the hand he wore his ID ring on, and with how bulky and complicated that gauntlet is, it was uncomfortable to have any major obstructions to the phlanges there.
Tumblr media
Lower Body Armor
Featuring a full view of his cuirass! It... is in very low definition cause this is a small doodle mainly focusing on the legs XD
Okay so on his belt he has larger bottles full of chemicals that would need to be used often and reached quickly. It's not shown here but he does also have a book holster in which he keeps his journal for easy access.
Then there's his leather overskirt, which he wears to kind of cushion his bottles and book holster so they're not constantly chafing against his legs. It also serves as his upper-leg protection in place of full-leg greaves, and especially as a precaution in case any of his bottles ever shatter (protection against both whatever's in the bottle AND broken glass).
He does wear padded knee armor, since, you know, he's gotta kneel down a lot to study stuff and he needs to prevent early-onset knee damage XD
Finally, his boots; they do have the heaviest protection of all his lower-body armor (steel toes and heels, and tough shin guards), but they also double as- surprise!- a place to Hold More Stuff. Yes, he even has little pouches on his legs. I swear he carries like, all of his material possessions with him. If it can't be on his person at all times then why would he own it? (This does not apply to the piano he built into one of the Marauder's walls; I'll talk about that when I make that post about Clones and Music.)
Tumblr media
Helmet
Okay so as you can see his helmet is unique because he actually had to design it himself. (Actually, all of Clone Force 99 have unique helmets, but Tech's is unique because it's not a historical style of helmet.) It's built in two separate pieces: a face plate, and a helm; this is so that, even when helmeted, he still has access to his goggles.
Other than that, it's pretty simple as far as helmets go. He did add the antennae just for funsies, but actually they're not really for funsies because he's Tech and everything he does has a Purpose (tm); they're incredibly sharp where they slot into the helmet and he can take them out as a secret weapon in life-or-death situations.
The other big thing is that the cheek guards of his helm are sculpted to look like Tern wings; Clone Force 99 are all Commandos, and as stated previously, Commandos are denoted by the fact that their helmets have wings mounted to them. Of the Batch, only Hunter and Cross have *actual* wings on their helms, but Tech and Wrecker still have the wing motif. (If you want to see the process behind this, and also what bird every Batcher claims, Evie and I had a long talk about it a few months ago, which I will link here. you may have to go into the notes to read the tags to get the complete picture but i assure you it's all there)
