Patients praised his ability to get results where others failed, and he was known for treating some of the most complex mental health cases in the city. When your relationship with Wooyoung started having problems, your best friend Mingi suggested therapy. You were hesitant at first, but when he specifically recommended Dr. Choi, someone who had worked wonders for him, you decided to give it a try.

“Trust me, San’s the real deal,” Mingi said, leaning in with that serious look he gets when he really means something. “He helped me when I was going through one of the darkest periods in my life. If anyone’s gonna help you figure out what’s going on, it’s him.”

That’s how you found yourself meeting with San in his warmly lit office multiple times a week. From the start, Dr.Choi had a way of making you feel truly heard, like every word you said mattered. He never rushed through sessions and even went as far as canceling other appointments just so you could have more time when you needed it. He never told you that you were wrong, no matter how messy or complicated your relationship issues sounded. Instead, he listened with that same calm, reassuring expression that made you feel understood and validated. Without hesitation, his expression softened, and he gently took your trembling hand. “Come in,” he said, his voice soothing as he pulled you into the safety of his home.

You sat on his couch, trying to hold back more tears as you told him everything—how you found Wooyoung with another girl, how you felt like your relationship was falling apart. His arm was wrapped tightly around your waist. Yawning, you reached for your phone which was on the floor next to you. You unlocked your phone, and your heart nearly skipped a beat when you saw a text from Wooyoung: I know I fucked up. But I love you. And I want us to work on things. I don’t want to lose you. Let me know when you’re ready to talk.

Your heart fluttered with a sense of hope, but before you could respond to the text, you felt San's eyes boring into you. You looked up at him, not realizing how closely he was watching your every move. You didn’t even hear him wake up. His expression remained calm, but the slight clenching of his jaw told you everything. He was furious. He must’ve seen you open the message on your phone when he woke up.

"Oh. Wooyoung texted me. He wants to fix things," you said, a little too eagerly, not noticing the anger settling into San's expression.

San's smile didn't quite reach his eyes as he leaned in to kiss your forehead.

"That's... nice," he murmured, though his voice didn’t reflect that. He actually sounded pissed, but you could tell he wasn’t trying to show it. San stood up, wrapping the blanket around him as he walked towards his bedroom. “I have to get dressed. You can stay here as long as you need, Y/N. I actually have to head out for another appointment, but make yourself at home, alright?"

You nodded. “Okay, thank you,” you said sweetly, ignoring the tension.

San drove in silence, his knuckles white as he gripped the steering wheel. He replayed your excitement over Wooyoung's text in his mind, a bitter taste settling on his tongue. How could you be so blind? After everything he had done to get you away from Wooyoung, after showing you what real love felt like, you still had the nerve to be excited about that cheating scumbag reaching out! Pissed off didn’t even begin to describe how San felt. He was so angry his eyes twitched and his hands shook as he drove. He had to do something, he was about to have you all to himself until that mother fucker sent you that text.

His thoughts darkened further as he arrived at the home you shared with Wooyoung. His plan formed in his mind, making him feel only a little better. He knocked on the door, his face wearing the mask of a friendly, concerned therapist. Really, he was the furious therapist who wanted to fuck somebody up.

Wooyoung opened the door, blinking in surprise. "San? Aren't you YIN's therapist?"

San let out a cheerful laugh. "Yeah, I am! My office is getting renovated, so I thought I'd stop by and see how things are going. I know Y/ N's been having a tough time, and I wanted to touch base."

Wooyoung relaxed slightly, shrugging. "She's not here right now, but come in. We can talk about how she's been doing. Ive been wanting to talk to you, anyway. Maybe you can give me some insight."

San stepped inside, carefully observing every detail of the house, the place where you once tried to build a future with someone who never deserved you. They moved throughout the home and as Wooyoung started talking, San could feel his blood boiling but he knew he had to remain calm. Wooyoung would get what he deserved shortly.

Wooyoung led San into the kitchen and pulled out a bottle of bourbon. “Want some?” he asked, holding the bottle up. “No, thank you. I’m just here under professional circumstances” San smiled, watching as Wooyoung shrugged and opened the bottle. “Suit yourself,” he said, taking a sip. San and Wooyoung sat at the table, ready to discuss sessions. Which was what San wanted Wooyoung to think, anyway.

"Ever since she started therapy, it's like she's blowing everything out of proportion.

She's been acting like our problems are way bigger than they actually are, like she's ooking for an excuse to leave. I don't know, man... it feels like she's being pushed into seeing the worst in me." Wooyoung stared long and hard at San.

San's eyes darkened, his smile slipping for just a moment as he watched Wooyoung ramble on. How dare he accuse him of manipulating you? Wooyoung was the one who had been lying to you, hurting you, cheating on you, and who knows what else. Hell, this dick was the whole reason you needed therapy in the first place! And yet here he was, acting like the victim.

"You really think so?" San's voice was low, dangerous. He took a step closer to Wooyoung, who didn't seem to notice the shift in San's tone.

"Yeah, it's like she's-" Wooyoung was cut off by the sudden pressure of San's hand around his neck. Panic flashed in Wooyoung's eyes as he struggled against San’s grip.

“San, what…what the hell are you doing?" Wooyoung croaked, trying to break himself free. He managed to break out of the hold, shoving San back with surprising strength, but San's fury was beyond reason now. The therapist quickly regained control, his movements turning brutal as he rained down punches, each one fueled by the sickening memories of everything Wooyoung had done to hurt you.

"This is for Y/N," San hissed between clenched teeth, his eyes wild as he struck Wooyoung with relentless force. San began to stop on Wooyoung, not caring that his blood was getting thrown into the air.

"For every tear she shed because of you."

Wooyoung's resistance weakened as blood dripped from his split lips and broken nose. San's breaths were ragged as he lifted Wooyoung's head by his hair, glaring into his fading eyes. “Pl-please, man…don’t do this. I love Y/n. I never hurt her that much. Believe me”, Wooyoung tears mixed with the blood covering his face satisfied San beyond reason. “Sorry, but with you gone, Y/n will be happier. If you really loved her, you wouldn’t mind dying.” With a final surge of strength, San twisted his hand, the sickening crack of Wooyoung's neck snapping echoing in the room as he tore his head clean off.

The lifeless expression on Wooyoung's face was frozen in terror as San calmly wiped his hands on a towel he found in the kitchen. The sight of Wooyoung's head dangling by his fingers didn't faze him-in fact, he was feeling a sense of satisfaction

San returned to his apartment, already mentally preparing to tell you to ignore Wooyoung’s text, that he didn’t deserve you. But when he entered his home, he found you pacing the living room, your phone clutched tightly in your hand.

"San, I've been thinking... maybe I should give Wooyoung another chance," you blurted out. You didn't notice how San's entire demeanor shifted, his smile growing unnervingly cold.

"Why would you even consider that, Y/N?" San's voice was sharper than you expected, laced with barely-contained fury. You thought your therapist would’ve been happy for you, that you were ready to work things out. “After everything he's put you through, why would you care? Especially after what we did last night."

His words cut through you like ice. You hadn't anticipated such a strong reaction from him. Your face turned bright red and you avoided his gaze. "I... I don't know. I guess I was just confused. I just wanted to feel loved but I’m in love with Wooyoung, and it’s hard to let go of someone you cared about for so long."

San's eyes narrowed, his patience thinning. "You shouldn't have even cared when he texted you. Do you think that was fair to me? Letting me be the one to comfort you, only to get excited over him? And then you let me fuck you-" His words dripped with venom as his eyes blazed with barely-restrained anger. “You’re a worthless whore. Disgusting… I don’t know how I’m even looking at you right now. I shouldn’t have felt bad for you all of those times you came to my office, crying about him. You deserve to be treated like shit!”, his words dripped with venom, his face turning red as he screamed in your face. Your ears throbbed and you broke down in tears. San was scaring you, and the things he was saying to you hurt.

You took a step back, sobs shaking your body. San... I didn't mean for things to get so complicated… please stop yelling at me, you’re scaring me!,” you put your hands in front of your face, just in case he was going to starting hitting you.

San's expression hardened, and without another word, he grabbed your hand, pulling you toward the living room. "I think it's time I show you something, Y/n.

You nodded, unsure of what he had to show you. For some reason, there was a feeling in your stomach, a gut feeling. Something was off. The unease grew as he led you to a trash bag that was sitting in front of the front door. “What’s that?,” you asked, confused. Why on earth was he showing you a trash bag? Did he want you to take the garbage out?

San laughed, but it wasn’t humorous. With a single swift motion, San tore the trash bag open, revealing the gruesome sight inside.

Wooyoung's severed head stared back at you, lifeless eyes wide open in horror. His olive skin had turn a sickly gray color, and a stench burned your nose. Your breath caught in your throat as you stumbled back, terror freezing you in place. You screamed, your hands covering your eyes as you dropped to the floor. “Why… why would you do this?”, you covered your face, as you choked on snot and tears. Your body shook and between the crying, the smell of rotting flesh, and the sight of the love of your life’s body-less head was all too much. You stared up at San. Someone you trusted with your problems, someone you felt safe with, was a monster. San looked at you, a twisted grin on his face.

"Now, Y/N, tell me... are you still confused about who really cares about you?"

The timeline had seemed fine. Completely fine. Better than fine, actually. He and Iris were married - a year earlier - and they had Nora. Things were fine.

But it had only taken one off-hand comment to completely shatter that.

"Barry?" Iris was worried and Barry realized he'd been quiet for too long but his mind was still reeling.

"I- what do you mean 'who's Cisco'?"

Iris tilted her head, concern etching deeper into her features as she stepped closer, rubbing his arm comfortingly. "I'm sorry, I don't know anyone named Cisco."

Barry felt the air around him grow heavy, suffocating - he suddenly couldn't breathe. "Iris, he's...he's our friend. He's like family. He...he worked with us at S.T.A.R. Labs. He made the Flash suit and the cold gun and- you have to remember him." Barry's voice broke, his eyes burning as he moved restlessly.

Iris tried to calm him, her touch gentle but firm. "Barry, breathe-"

Barry was on his way to S.T.A.R. Labs before Iris could say anything else. Cisco had to be there, maybe Iris just...hadn't met him somehow.

Caitlin whirled around, looking startled as Barry zipped into the room faster than he ever had behind her. He didn't give her a chance to say anything.

"Where's Cisco?" Barry demanded and Caitlin furrowed her brow.

"Who?" She asked, jumping slightly when Barry yelled in response.

"Cisco!"

Barry searched through the lab from top to bottom and bottom to top again in seconds, streaks of yellow lightning illuminating the halls brightly until Barry skidded to a stop in the Cortex, his chest heaving, looking frantic. There was no sign of Cisco.

"Barry? Everything okay?" Ronnie's voice preceded his appearance in the doorway. He and Caitlin exchanged a worried glance as Barry tried to process that too.

"Ronnie, where's Cisco? Cisco Ramon. He works here, he worked with you on the particle accelerator, he's our friend. Please tell me you know who he is." Barry asked desperately.

Ronnie shook his head, his expression a mixture of confusion and concern, but it was Caitlin who spoke.

"Come here, you need to sit down. You look like you're going to faint," she said, gently but firmly pulling him by the arm to the nearest chair.

Barry sank into the chair, his mind racing as he buried his head in his hands. The room felt like it was closing in, the familiar walls of S.T.A.R. Labs suddenly alien. This was all wrong. Cisco was gone and it was his fault.

Project: Eden’s Garden prologue just dropped and here’s my thoughts on the cast so far 👀

Damon: Oh, so we finally get to play as a tool. Just a total trashman. It’s almost like if we went into the first Danganronpa playing as Byakuya LMAO. Can’t wait to watch his guy slowly figure out he was being a gatekeeping prick just to feel self-important and not have to think about having an identity apart from his talent.

Eva: I love her. I already liked her design when the voice cast was announced, which I also really like, and now I’m really looking forward to how her arc pans out. I like how a lot of her dialogue consists of questions/guesses, directives, or observations you wouldn’t need to take her word for. I also like that, assuming it’s true-- and so far, I’m willing to bet it is-- that, while hesitant, she was honest about being the Ultimate Liar. Imagine how that’d blow up in her face later if she tried lying about what kind of Ultimate she was. She knows it’s a lot to ask for with her talent, but she definitely acts like she wants to be trusted. I already said this in Youtube comments, but the contrast against Kokichi really makes a point for why she’s the Ultimate Liar: a good liar knows when not to lie. For one, a bad liar tells lies they can’t get away with, and for another, if your reputation precedes you, all it takes to deceive everyone is to tell the truth and let their suspicion do all the work.

Grace: Uncalled for, but Damon kinda earns it later.

Wolfgang: A polite boy. A lad, even. Save for how riled up that “demo” got him. Wondering whether he’ll be Damon’s Kaito or his Kokichi... Right now, it seems like Damon’s set himself up to be Wolfgang’s Kokichi. Yikes.

Toshiko: We haven’t seen her mouth yet... curious. Could mean nothing... but if this fangame also includes a plant among the killing game participants, she’s my first guess. Danganronpa loves red herrings, so I don’t think it’d be Eva, but Toshiko? Her color scheme would also fit, everyone woke up in pairs, and a lot of those pairs seem to work well together or at least balance each other out.

Eloise: Hello, so you have red eyes, huh? Is there something you’re not telling us? What was that about analyzing your opponent and predicting their next move, almost like you would in chess? Sorry, you seem very sweet, I just know how these games go.

Kai: I could see the Ultimate Influencer being a traitor or mastermind and using their talent to gather an audience for their killing game, cuz the games are always streamed and he has a lot more black and white in his outfit than Cassidy, but I... kinda doubt it’ll be him unless they’re all revealed to play roles as the mastermind.

Diana: tbh I’m really hoping she’ll be one of the killers. There’s a lot of potential for a makeup artist to cover their crime, like concealing or faking injuries. They did say she’s done makeup for cinema, I’m just saying. I’m just saying! At the very least, even if she’s cleared, I really hope she’ll be a suspect.

Jett: Don’t know what I expected, but I’m loving his energy. He is doing his best.

Canine teeth in the side of my neck for the WIP game 👀🍷

Hehe, so this is one of my runs at the @motorsport-halloween fest, and it's a take on a semi-mundane supernatural community, sort of in the vein of Being Human or WWDITS - like, it's a secret that vampires/werewolves/witches exist, but not a good secret. Alex becomes the new werewolf liaison for dealing with vampire and coven bureaucracy and learns the importance of proper documentation. Featuring Vampire!George and Witch!Charles and protracted negotiations on who, exactly, is allowed to bite whom. Also unicorns and me sassing various places in Oxfordshire, land of nightmares.

It’s a Milton Keynes month, which means Alex can drag the farm’s Land Rover out of the barn to make the meeting. It’s a rollicking drive down country lanes too narrow for the speeds he hits, but he’s still amped up on full moon adrenaline, senses as sharp as his teeth. 

And he’s keen too - he’d actually gone through the notes George had sent, neatly typed and collated, and written his own questions in the margin about hunt rotations and who had precedent over what issues. There was a whole subsection to the terms on unicorns that he is 98% certain is a joke, so he’ll have to work out a way to ask without looking like a gullible fool, but even that feels fun. Since Seb went wandering, there’s been a chronic shortage of people to tease on the farm. 

The official meeting spot is a bleak and ancient industrial park just opposite an even bleaker abandoned train yard. Sheets of old corrugated iron creak in the wind, rusted out cars make the whole place reek like blood, and the deep cracks in the concrete look like black bile leaking from the hollowed out mouths of the gaping garages. On the one hand, it’s perfect – exactly the kind of place sensible humans looking to avoid horrible monsters would avoid. 

On the other hand, it’s full of teenagers drinking cider and fingering each other in spots that aren’t dark enough for Alex’s liking. The sweep of his headlights across the open chain link gates makes the most obvious couples scatter like rats, but he can still hear them.

George is hovering just outside the gates, looking deeply unhappy. Alex parks up and gives him a sympathetic look. 

“The smell?” he asks, and George shudders. 

“Whiteclaw on Lynx. Hideous.”

“We were all young once.”

George wrinkles his nose. “Not like that.”

Alex is prevented from discovering exactly what a young, alive George Russell was like by the back door of the Land Rover opening and someone helping themselves to the seat. “Can we go, please? The horny teens are giving me a headache. Too many orgasms.”

“Too much information! Who the fuck are you?”

“Oh,” the creature in the back seat says. “You’re not Seb. This is Seb’s car.”

“It’s my fucking car, weirdo, so-”

“Alex,” George cuts in, sliding into the passenger seat beside him, “may I have the dubious honour of introducing Charles Leclerc, leader and liaison of Oxfordshire’s finest coven? Charles, this is Alex, the new lycan liaison. You missed his first meeting,” he adds, a note of reproach in his voice that has Charles rolling his eyes.

Then Charles switches his attention to Alex, meeting his gaze in the rear view mirror, and Alex is abruptly pinned to his seat. There’s power in that look, power in Charles’s presence, the way he looks, a little too good to be true. With the wolf still close to the surface, it makes Alex feel trapped, wary. 

“Charles.” George’s voice hits a resonance, low and dark, that Alex hasn’t heard before. A moment passes, then Charles smiles, impish, and the heavy pressure in the Land Rover lifts away.

“Just checking! Where are we going that is away from the shagging?” he asks.

Thoughts on the Radovid romance

A couple people have asked about the Radovid/Jaskier relationship, and I thought it was... fine? As fine as anything in this show gets?

I wasn't expecting it to dethrone Geralt/Jaskier, because 20+ years of Jaskier building his life and legacy around Geralt is a lot more compelling than Some Twink He Met Yesterday, but I did go into it with a genuinely open mind. Everyone on tumblr was gushing over their chemistry, and I was like, Yea I'd believe it, given that this is Joey Batey we're talking about. So I was expecting to enjoy it the way I'd enjoyed the Yennskier content in S2, the rare treat of two characters having a real emotional connection.

And then I watched it, and it wasn't bad, but the relationship was a lot more disjointed (and their "chemistry" a lot less compelling) than tumblr had led me to believe. (Lol, mea culpa, I should have known better than to take tumblr's word for it.) Also it’s unclear whether it’s supposed to be a cute romance, or whether it’s two people using each other for their own ends?

But it did brush up against some interesting thoughts I'd had before about Jaskier and his patrons, and got me to thinking about consent and power dynamics again, because I am THEE MOST predictable little beastie in fandom. 🤣

First off, I'm not sure what we're supposed to make of Radovid. Obviously he's ~hiding his true self~ in some way, but I can't tell if we're meant to take at face value the side of himself he shows Jaskier -- that he's more intelligent than he's been letting on, and is actually deeply lonely in the empty-headed partyboy role he's been playing, desperate for genuine connection and for someone to truly see him for who he is -- or whether that is yet more deception, and this is all part of some big ambitious scheme that he'll whip out in a mustache-twirling villain reveal. There are elements that make me think it's the latter, but Hugh Skinner's acting is also just weird (and why are his eyes so wet o_o), and I can't tell whether that's supposed to be deliberate foreshadowing, or if, once again, the people making the show are just clueless about how their creative choices are coming off.

(I assume this will get answered at some point, possibly already has in part 2, but I haven't watched that yet.)

Honestly, the part that caught my interest the most was when Jaskier showed up at Radovid's salon wanting to talk about new intel he had on Rience, and Radovid was blithely uninterested, just wanted Jaskier to sing for them -- and then proceeded to casually, completely disregard Jaskier's No.

That's a red flag! 😊 Jaskier tried to set a boundary, and Radovid brushed right past it. And in any competently-executed piece of media, I would expect that to be deliberately signaling something. It doesn't necessarily mean that Radovid is evil -- could just mean he's a crown prince who doesn't have much experience with people telling him No -- but seeing him blithely override Jaskier's wishes in a low-stakes situation sets a bad precedent, and foreshadows how he might behave later, when the stakes might well be higher.

...Except that this production team is so HILARIOUSLY bad at writing healthy relationships -- for three seasons they've been feeding us the most toxic slop imaginable and telling us that's what love looks like -- that I have no idea whether that was on purpose or not. 😂😂😂

The Radovid storyline does touch on some concepts that I've long found fascinating, about Jaskier's system of patronage and how he trades on his sexuality. How his work is canonically sex work, or at least sex-work adjacent (that's made explicit when he talks about the Countess de Stael, that they were involved sexually while she was supporting him financially), and the balancing act of keeping his patrons happy when they are always, always going to be second in his affections to Geralt -- and how they probably wouldn't be too happy to learn that.

Because for all that S3 tells us Jaskier is developing a crush on Radovid, Joey Batey's acting says something very different. He did not come off as a man in love, to me -- he came off as someone who's acutely aware that when the crown prince of Redania rolls up and tells you he's your biggest fan, you fucking smile for him.

(Why yes, Moulin Rouge is my all-time favorite movie, why do you ask? 🤣)

Jaskier's interactions with Radovid feel very... 'calculated' isn't quite the word for it, but Jaskier is conscious of the power differentials there, and always carefully choosing what he does and says in light of what he knows Radovid wants from him. He's conscious of having to keep Radovid happy, yes but he's also conscious of what he stands to gain from having a crown prince clamoring to win his affections, and what he could leverage out of that. (Like, say, having the entire Redanian army to protect his little found family.)

And the power imbalance isn't entirely one-directional either. Radovid wants Jaskier's affections, something that can't be bought or coerced, and wants his specifically, which means Jaskier has all the power to give or withhold it... while also being aware that toying with a prince's affections is a dangerous game.

........Or maybe I entirely misread that, and Jaskier's feelings for Radovid are meant to be genuine, and the whole thing was supposed to be a cute little romance. The way that Joey & the production team have talked about that relationship makes it sound like that's what they were going for, but what's onscreen is very ambiguous.

It will surprise no one to learn that I think the more interesting option would be the one that complicates Jaskier’s motives. That even if he likes Radovid well enough, he's still deliberately leveraging Radovid's crush on him to get help for Geralt -- and that if he oversteps, he's risking the wrath of a very powerful man. (And that as the perceived rival, Geralt could wind up as the target of Radovid’s retribution.)

Anyway, it's a fascinating situation, and almost identical to a fic premise I've been tossing around for years. It's never quite coalesced enough to get written, but it does compel me.

(Alternately, if you wanted Radovid to be noble and tragic, @coffee-mage-sans-caffeine suggested a situation in which Radovid and Geralt are in peril together, one of them is not going to make it out of this, and Radovid sacrifices himself so Geralt lives -- because he knows which of them Jaskier loves more.)

also, very curious about the circumstances that led to her being cursed by the gods 👀

So one of the themes I'm interested in most in BG3 is the intercession of the gods in mortal lives. Both in terms of the obvious narrative of the Dead Three and their plans, but also the indifference and/or casual cruelty of the rest of Faerun's pantheon, notably the gods typically thought of as exemplifying good - and what that means about how much power lies in the hands of common people vs. their "betters." Sura's backstory came about because of those thoughts, and is directly informed by them.

Tl;dr because this got long: Sura is cursed because her mother was an awful person, and to the gods, a debt is a debt regardless of who incurred it. Sura started paying her mother's debt the day she was born.

Long version:

Sura's mother, Aran, was a wood elf from one of the clans of the Wood of Sharp Teeth. From a young age she was a gifted sorcerer, and an obsessive collector of knowledge. Unfortunately, she was also an essentially disagreeable person from minute one, and had an entirely unwholesome knack for death magic. When she became an adult her own people politely showed her the door. From there, she took up with a roving mercenary band that eventually landed her in Baldur's Gate.

Joining the group introduced her to Sura's father, Maurit: a solid brick wall of a human sellsword whose primary talent in life was hitting people really hard. He wasn't a particularly bad man, as mercenaries go, although he wasn't a particularly good one either. What he lacked in other areas of his personality, he made up in loyalty. Aran's basic amorality didn't bother him - to him, she was the most beautiful and dangerous thing he'd ever seen, and he would have followed her into the Nine Hells for a smile and a song.

Aran was motivated by the acquisition of personal power, and she was prone to bouts of obsession. She'd get interested in some new project and no one but Maurit would see her for weeks, sometimes months. What she did during these times varied, but it always seemed to circle back to her interest in necromancy. (My headcanon-for-a-headcanon here is that she'd have gotten on well with Mystic Carrion, if they ever met). As time passed, her work got bloodier, and she eventually got it into her head that if she could raise enough undead, she could amass sufficient power to make a run at godhood.

Which brings us to the night Sura was born.

Nobody'd seen Aran for months. While that wasn't enough in and of itself to draw attention - she was known to be with child, it wasn't that odd that she'd been absent from work as dangerous as theirs - nobody'd seen her husband in the preceding weeks either. Though Maurit wasn't the most well-liked or social man, the people he worked with did eventually get concerned enough to go looking. So one quiet night, half a dozen of them turned up at the couple's home in the outer city.

We'll spare the details here (I don't know what kind of stomach you have for horror), but they walked into a house transformed to an abattoir that would make a Bhaalist proud. Bodies piled on every surface, intact and otherwise. From what they could gather, Aran had succeeded in raising a truly monstrous number of undead. Her body lay prone in the center of the room, next to her husband, who had met a gruesome fate as her final victim. She seemed to have succumbed to whatever ritual she was attempting to complete, and had been struck down in the same blast that leveled her hoard of zombies. The only life left in that room was her newborn child, minutes old. On either shoulder the baby sported what appeared to be brands: Kelemvor's scales on her left, Lathander's rising sun on her right.

At first, none of the assembled mercenaries could bring themselves to touch her. Near as they could tell, the girl was probably the result of ritual magic that had deeply offended two of the most powerful gods in realmspace. They might have abandoned her to her fate. But Tethos stepped forward. He'd been the closest thing to a friend the girl's father had really had. Standing over his body, he couldn't bring himself to simply abandon his daughter. So he took her in.

Sura would only discover what her curse meant to her as she grew. There's a lot of additional story involved, which for the sake of this not turning into a novel I'll exclude, but the practical upshot is: she can't die. She found this out the hard way, i.e. the painful way, and at the point where she gets abducted by the Nautiloid she's been dealing with the realities of being unwillingly immortal for just over 70 years.

She maintains an antagonistic working relationship with her patron gods. They periodically turn up and set her tasks, which she completes under extreme protest. And once she gets tangled up with the tadpole gang... well. Things get interesting fast.

I have so much written about her ongoing struggles with her desire to regain mortality, and how she relates conceptually and practically to her concepts of religion, guilt, obligation, and rebellion, but I'll save that for another day.

What do you think of the Velaryons in the main books? We barely know anything about them between Lucerys who was the lord of Driftmark during Aerys ii’ reign to Monford and later Monterys. Any headcanons? 👀

I talked briefly about the main series Velaryons in this post. I think they'll just continue to exist on the fringe of the story, with maybe Aurane playing a role going forward. My speculation on how Aurane may rejoin the plot, this time in allegiance with a Targaryen monarch. It's hard to say anything about the current lord, Monterys, as the books don't provide many details beyond the mention that he's 6 years old.

As for headcanons, well I do like the idea that Lucerys was the father of both Monford and Aurane. The books don't give Monford's age but his half-brother Aurane is mentioned as being in his early twenties (born in either 277 AC or 278 AC). So, in all likelihood, Monford must be somewhere in his 20s too in the ASOIAF timeline. That means Monford would have been around 5+ years old in the years preceding Robert's Rebellion (282 AC).

Parents in ASOIAF are known to take their young children to visit the royal court, as evidenced by this quote from Stannis:

"I remember the first time my father took me to court, Robert had to hold my hand. I could not have been older than four, which would have made him five or six."

Steffon Baratheon was known as an old friend of Aerys' and he had his children visiting the court. I see no reason why Lucerys, as the Master of Ships and one of the people in the Mad King's inner circle, wouldn't do the same with his son.

Some more headcanons, which then put this quote into perspective:

The Myrmen swapped jokes as they enjoyed the warmth of the fire, but young Lord Bar Emmon had turned a splotchy grey, and Lord Velaryon was watching the king rather than the conflagration.

In the scene where the burnings are happening on Dragonstone, as per Stannis' orders, everyone watches the conflagration, but Monford watches Stannis (and Davos watches Monford lol). I've always interpreted this scene as indication that perhaps little Monford might have witnessed those public executions by fire that were common at Aerys' court.

Lucerys, who was Aerys' Master of Ships, does not seem the type to care about much beyond his own political advancement. I doubt he would care what effect witnessing such things could have on a child.

The Mad King could be savagely cruel, as seen most plainly when he burned those he perceived to be his enemies, but he could also be extravagant, showering men who pleased him with honors, offices, and lands. The lickspittle lords who surrounded Aerys II had gained much and more from the king’s madness and eagerly seized upon any opportunity to speak ill of Prince Rhaegar and inflame the father’s suspicions of the son.

Chief amongst the Mad King’s supporters were three lords of his small council: Qarlton Chelsted, master of coin, Lucerys Velaryon, master of ships, and Symond Staunton, master of laws. The eunuch Varys, master of whisperers, and Wisdom Rossart, grand master of the Guild of Alchemists, also enjoyed the king’s trust.

So when Monford watches Stannis instead of the burning conflagration, he might have been thinking back on the Mad King. The books repeatedly make note of the fact that Monford does not want to be there, as he's not overly supportive of Stannis and even hostile to him at times. It's only because he's directly sworn to Stannis, who is Lord of Dragonstone, that Monford is obligated to serve him (especially with Driftmark being right next to Dragonstone).

And while Monford would certainly have the typical classist mindset of a Westerosi noble, I do also consider him to be someone willing to at least look beyond the social hierarchy enough to acknowledge the merits of a commoner who rose high. This is based on the fact that he's mentioned as being one of the few people who bothers to acknowledge Davos' existence:

When Davos arrived at the Stone Drum, a dozen highborn knights and great bannermen were just leaving. Lords Celtigar and Velaryon each gave him a curt nod and walked on while the others ignored him utterly.

Not to mention, Monford's bastard half-brother Aurane being part of the Velaryon retinue. You'd think he might seek to keep the bastard away as some other lords might do, in order to avoid the shame to their family, but Monford does no such thing. Also, when Aurane makes known his intention to Cersei that he wants a castle of his own, he never sets his sight on Driftmark, presently ruled by his nephew (Monford's son). Aurane (despite being a manipulative conman) shows no desire whatsoever to usurp his own family, which seems to suggest a positive relationship between the brothers.

THE PRESSURE IS ON!! I‘m just going to list my general opinions, because tbh you have covered their specific dynamics way better than I ever could.

Gregstophe (which I have not been able to stop myself from pronouncing as ‘greg-stoph-ee’, which I KNOW is not the right way but the way I do it anyway) was definitely one of the earlier ships I got into, if I remember correctly? It was never exactly on OTP level for me, because style really was my absolute favorite from the very beginning, but the gregstophe niche very much appealed to me in a lot of ways. Despite appreciating it as a ship fairly early on, my fanfiction exploration was very limited, and my fanart exploration - keep in mind I had not yet had a South Park tumblr account at that point in my life - consisted basically of typing ‘gregory and christophe fanart south park’ into Google.

I didn’t have much of a choice on the fanfiction, though! Even now, there are barely over 200 works (several of which being on the ‘most recents’ page being yours!) and when I first got into the fandom, there were around 60. I was actually much more of a kystophe enjoyer back then (and I even read a few fics, though those were obviously limited to), and I haven’t really picked which of the ships I like more in present day.

I still do like gregstophe!! I mean, obviously, since I wrote a fic about them (for you <3). I think they are just so interesting, and BLU really is one of those movies that I just rewatch over and over again when I get the time. I would consider myself more attached to Christophe than to Gregory, and I have been for a very long time. I think Christophe is just the funniest little guy. That being said, while I do love Christophe so so dearly, gregstophe isn’t one of those ships where they are the One and Only for me, because neither of the characters are super, super high on my faves list. I could ship either character with other characters without getting weirdly jealous about it, which is honestly very rare for me!

If I had to guess why I feel that way towards them, I suspect it’s because they exist as an abstract concept to me, instead of a seriously grounded ship. It’s not that I don’t think they would legitimately work, because I do - it’s that gregstophe kind of inherently has to be an au, just by virtue of existing. And not even because Christophe is (seemingly?) dead, but because both of them are just SUCH strange characters that they kind of seem out of place even in the weirdo town of South Park. And that’s what makes them interesting, and very charming! But it’s also why it’s hard to imagine them as a permanent fixture in basically anywhere, which is why I think your ideal of a mercenary (if that’s the right word?) lifestyle works so well for them. Their few minutes of screen time each already sets a precedent for each of them as perpetually on the go, and to consider them having a permanent, domestic life (before the age of 40-50) feels difficult for me to imagine. That being said, I think you do a very good job of making them believable!!!

I love gregstophe, seriously. I think they’re such a charming pair, and one that fit so well together especially given their lack of actual interaction. The gregstophe community is also so committed, and I can always respect that for a rarepair.

I've got one at the moment I think, more of an idea than a WIP bc it's not technically on the page yet. I don't know if I'd post it even if I did write it because 1. the fandom is abysmally tiny (I don't think there's even a tag for the movie on AO3 yet), 2. it's very self-indulgent and probably on the verge of a lazy/unrealistic plot, and 3. I just feel like it would go dead even if I did post it, so obviously my other fics are going to take precedence

I mean, I love them all. I don't get very many comments on my fics in general, so I really treasure every one. Alright, here's a bit from the next chapter of Bolts and Blasters, my Star Wars fic:

A bit of the truth leached into those final words, and maybe that was why he didn’t question it. Poe just nodded, though his lips pressed into a thin, uneasy line. 

“Don’t know how much you’ll find,” he admitted, “Everywhere’s tapped dry. We had ships coming in from practically every habitable planet, and they all need to recover after that. You’ll be lucky to find bacta.”

“You’re so encouraging.” Indigo huffed, giving him a look, “But I have to try.”

Again, she found glimpses of truth amid the lie. She hated that she couldn’t tell him more. She hated that she had to dodge his questions like this. She hated to lie to a friend.

With luck, it wouldn’t matter. He’d learn that it was a ruse within a day, yes, but he’d forgive her if it all worked out. 

If. 

Indigo sighed, and stepped forward long enough to pull him into a hug. If he thought that was strange, a farewell hug for a supposedly-brief supply run, he didn’t breathe a word of it. She’d been a little shaky these past few weeks, after all. He wouldn’t begrudge her a bit of support after everything she’d lost. 

When she pulled back, Poe’s brows had drawn inwards with suspicion. She took a step back, swallowing hard. 

“Good luck on your mission.” he told her, and didn’t say anything more. His posture was stiff, mechanical. He’d probably already guessed it. He was rowdy, yes, but he’d never been a stupid man.

🏅 What is something you recently felt proud of in regard to your writing (finished a fic, actually planned for once, etc).

The last two chapters I posted, on two different fics, were both over 7k words long, and I thought they were both very good. And I'm devilishly proud of how much emotional damage I've put my readers through in Bolts and Blasters, particularly since I've already started writing the resolution to it.

All the time lol. I write it for me, so of course I reread it.

👩‍🏭 If one of your fics was going to get you arrested, which one and why?

Desert Song or Nom De Guerre. I'd like to think that my depictions of thievery, pickpocketing, coup d'etats, underground crime groups, and whatever else that writing 6 Underground fanfiction entails is decently accurate (or at least enough for suspension of disbelief)... but is it TOO accurate?

😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate?

I have a few fics where the main character's POV is in first-person perspective, and I know that's pretty polarizing. I still write most of my fics in third-person and even a few in second, but there's a certain level of perspective and closeness in first-person that you really can't quite get in the others. It feels more like they're telling their stories, rather than having this omniscient or godly Narrator walking them through it. I don't use it all the time (only 2 of my fics use first-person, and both also have POV shifts to other characters, which are written in third-person) but I think it can be very powerful when it's done right.

A scenario where Azul's S/O started watching octopodes documentaries just to over analyze and give him god complex- I mean to let him know how amazing he is.

I don't expect you to watch a documentary just for this so I'll just list down two facts that's hopefully correct XD

1. Octopus brings portable pods when they travel so they have somewhere to hide when put in a vulnerable position (Azul's octo pot👀)

2. And octopuses used to have shells and eventually evolved into these squishy creatures for convenience and higher survival rate, but this probably made them more vulnerable to predators but they survive by adapting and evading. Not only that octopus is one- if not the Smartest non mammal animal which makes their intelligence more remarkable. (I feel like this fits Azul so much, especially the breaking out of his shell and putting himself out there despite the sense of vulnerability still lingering. He used his intelligence to catch his prey and outsmart predators.

I just imagine his s/o spouting this facts and simping for him-

Summary: After watching some Octopuses documentaries and some digging. You bring it upon yourself to praise the already egotistical Azul Ashengrotto.

Azul and yourself have been dating for a while now. You’ve known he wasn’t human and always been curious about his proper form. Azul’s Octopus-Merman form, you knew that much from word of mouth from the Leech twins, and from what you’ve heard, it’s either “He looked tasty when he was younger,” or “He’s a slow swimmer in the water just as he ‘well’ he is at flight classes.”

Not that you blamed his inability to fly, you didn’t even have magic, but you’d always cheer him on whether he saw you. Your boyfriend didn’t talk in-depth about what he looked like under the sea, and he would vaguely answer your question and then sway the conversation to another topic.

The way he worded his responses felt dismissive. You were offended by his attitude towards your queries but understood his concern in showing his well-hidden cards. Azul had no desire to break from his well-crafted façade to anyone.

Azul’s reputation preceded him as someone untrustworthy and sly. He was cordial, yet cold demeanor he showed with everyone Ashengrotto spoke with had the constant undertone of benefactor and beneficiary. It took you a long time to even take a few bricks from the endless walls he had guarding himself. Even now, it’s difficult for you to understand his motives for certain things.

When you peeled back the layers of his past during his Overblot, it made you realize, deep in his core. Azul’s visceral desire to improve himself and take things into his own hands so what he felt when he was a child would never rear its head again because people would be too scared to even think of opposing his word, even to those most unsuspecting.

His selfish craving for power drove him to not care for those he deemed lower than himself—no matter who would hurt, who to use, or how underhanded his intelligent plans were. Azul’s constant thirst scared you, even if you did love him with all your heart. But despite his shortcomings, the second year’s lust for power that was just a part of him, he had so much more behind his suave and cold persona. He was funny even when he didn't mean to; the white-haired man was still young and grounded by his limitations, the lack of real experience in certain areas, and well-hidden insecurities.

It made you sympathetic toward the second-year man, and as you got closer. Carefully watching the Octavinelle dorm leader made you realize that he, too, was still young, just like you, and he was clumsy at times. That sympathy turned to care, which soon turned to admiration, finally morphing into love, a two-way street that led to your current predicament.

His persistence in keeping his secrets buried was a bad habit that he needed to break on his own, but maybe, you can do something to show your boyfriend that he could trust you and be there for him. So, with a cunning plot of your own, you searched on your phone for any documentaries, clips, or articles talking about Octopuses and how underrated they are in the public eye—after researching merpeople and the Cephalopod family.

–At the same time, educate yourself about the boneless creature from professional marine biologists to the environmental documentaries, scribbling down notes in a spare journal and intently listening to the voiceovers and taking in the small details of the creature. At first, you found yourself a little intrigued, then, in turn, amazement.

Some people may call you too much of a hard worker for something ludicrous, but you'd like to call this a passion project. It was tiring to juggle caring for Grim, studying, and ensuring your boyfriend had no idea what you were doing. You did want to surprise him with your newfound knowledge, but the picture of him already conscious his lover was planning something was planted when the Leech twins found you picking out some books from the library from the Marine section. They didn’t tattle after you begged them not to spill the beans to Azul, you hope anyways. Despite the fact you were dating Azul, they didn’t bend to your will either. That made things all the more anxiety-inducing and annoying but understood they were people, too, not subservient.

One afternoon the twins saw you picking out an armful of marine-themed books. After you begged them not to tell the dorm leader, the duo left with a mischievous look. Their ominous answer didn’t deter you, and it feeds into your motivation to spout facts and spoil him. Flipping through your journal full of notes, doodles, and chicken scratches, you were pretty satisfied with what you wrote. The book wasn’t full of every detail but information that drew your attention. You and Azul shared the determination to finish what you started with research and effort. This week seemed to be a light homework week that made you quite happy after gaining enough knowledge about the Cephalopods and general information about the Mer-Octopus people. Resolute in your mastery, you walk towards the wondrous underwater dorm leaving your journal on your nightstand. The sun slowly set, remembering Grim staying over at Heartslaybul for the night.

Through the Hall of Mirrors and Octavinelle, you catch students seated on the leather-bound couches, retrieving food, soft lighting, and orchestral music. Everything was elegant, and you were charmed as Jade guided you to a booth nearest the Aquarium. The tall Eel-mer held the menu. Speaking off-topic, you swallowed your nerves and asked. “Jade? Is Azul busy right now? If he’s not, can you ask him to come over?” Meeting the twin’s gaze, Jade nods with a sly smirk and bows slightly, “Why, of course. Azul’s currently finishing up accounting in the V.I.P room, but I'll tell him for you.”

‘His smile doesn’t reach his eyes, but at least he’ll tell Azul.’ Quietly thank the man as he leaves. As you sat, you patiently waited for your food as you glanced at the Aquarium and saw colorful schools of fish and kelp glide on the underwater current. Another waiter walks to your table, placing down the aromatic food and drink, thanking the tired-looking man you eat, wondering how much work Azul had leftover.

As you finished and paid, Floyd sauntered up to your table huh. You didn’t see him at all when you walked in. Maybe his mood changed, and he wanted to do something, or he wanted to tease you.

“Hey Shrimpy, have you paid yet? Azul wants to talk in the V.I.P room~.” Floyd told with a teasing smile as he picked up the dirty dishes. Then with that ominous remark, he left without another word. Floyd must’ve left quite moody earlier today from the wary looks on other staff members’ faces or something like that. Following Floyd’s advice, your legs walk toward the secluded room in the back with your puffed-out chest. Azul opens the door, his heavy outer coat propped on a chair. It was an informal look for himself, but he didn’t mind letting his hair down with his lover. He welcomed you into the room and smiled while watching you sit down on one couch, and he sat next to you. His arm lays comfortably on the plush pillows as he arches his brow.

“Jade and Floyd told me that you’ve been working on something for a while now, I’ve been waiting to see if you’d tell me when you were ready, and by how you walked in, you seem quite confident, my pearl.” Azul remarks as he glances in your direction. The twins didn’t give him much information, just that his lover had been quite busy for the past weeks. The merman didn’t mind that you had your projects or secrets. It would be hypocritical if he were nosy when Azul himself wasn’t wholly truthful with you, but that didn’t mean Azul’s curiosity wasn’t sparked entirely on the contrary.

You met his sky blue gaze with a smile that could rival the sun’s warmth, turning your body closer and asking an enthusiastic question. “Yup, and you wanna know what I learned?” In the remote, fancy room. The couple is free to drop formality and show gentleness and affection to each other as Azul’s eyes widen as he watches his lover’s eyes shine brightly with child-like glee.

“Of course, please enlighten me.” Azul muses as he feds into his lover’s confidence streak as he chuckles to himself. The second-year feels his cold heart melt like the ice caps in the face of summer. Why did you have to be so cute when overconfident?

A smirk appears as you straighten your posture and clumsily execute your appraisal plan. You didn’t think how you’d praise the dorm leader, but your passion didn’t deter in the slightest regardless of that detail.“I’ve been researching an underappreciated species. Through this, I understood things better. I found some interesting connections between something I love and thought you’d like to hear them.”

As you praise him and his shared traits with the Octopus, Azul feels his ego boost sky-high. Despite how awkward your praising was, he didn’t care because it was from the person he cared for the most, the person that, despite how Azul acted, would never try to coax them into any of his harmful schemes, the person he cherished. With your act of true devotion to making him more comfortable and admittedly more prideful than he already was, you preferred those times when he was drowning in his mind of the past and the scars he wore from them.

Continuing with your praising, he wondered if you were this stubborn and unwavering in your relationship about how you felt for him. Maybe he can show you he wanted to show his trust in you. The silver-haired man knew he had deep-seated trust issues, which would inevitably affect other relationships if he didn’t try to change. He tried to make a difference in how he was with you because Azul genuinely loves you, so he concluded after some thought. Such hard work from his pearl should be rewarded, no? Ashengrotto feels his cheeks burn under embarrassment at the mere idea of what he’ll do next. A gloved hand reached to your lap and stopped your beloved rambling. You shot up to meet his gaze in a flurry of confusion.

“Did you hate it? Was I too abrupt? Or maybe I got something wrong? I mean, I didn’t think I did, but you are from the sea and lived there for all your life, so–” In an instant, that confident resolve you once had crumbled at his touch. Maybe, you were wrong to think that the Octopuses and the people had a lot in common despite your research? Thoughts flood your mind as you ashamedly look with your hand down into your lap, shrinking under the room’s pressure.

The merman shushes you as he grasps your hand. He beckons you to meet his gaze and look up at him slowly. His cheeks burst to life in a brilliant show of reds. Azul’s back straightens as he shakes his head, dispelling the worries that plagued you. “No, I quite adored it. But I wanted to show you something as well.” Interest and concern piqued, you tilted your head, not fully understanding what he was alluding to. Azul reaches for his glasses and closes his eyes as he pulls them away from his face and places them on the coffee table. He moved his body to face yours once more and nervously opened his eyes, revealing a pair of rectangular-shaped pupils to his lover. They were precisely like an Octopus’ eyes save for the beautiful sky color.

A gasp escapes your lips as you move closer to him and gaze into his eyes. Even when he was a master of covering his emotions and wearing his poker face, he couldn’t hide how anxious Azul felt. Initially, he would’ve taken a long time to warm up, even to entertain the thought of showing a side of himself, and at that, he’d never leave things to chance, but you showed him how serious you were and the passion you had.

He desperately wanted to wear his glasses and escape to the safety of his Octopot as he heard your gasp. Azul Ashengrotto felt like what he hated the most. Vulnerable. Sitting in silence for a few moments, you gathered your thoughts as you reached out to his hands on his lap. Unwavering and caught in his spell, you could only utter one sentence, and it was unfair how much comfort it brought him.

“You’re beautiful.”

Cutting right to the chase: Papa Hunter has got this in the bag

He has been long prepared and he is not taken aback in the slightest

Remember: heightened senses. He’s able to detect the hormone shifts in the weeks preceding. That left him able to guesstimate about when she’d start

He knows exactly what to expect because, well, his wife lol

So when the oldest gets her period for the first time, Hunter knows exactly what to do and works to make the transition as smooth as possible

His only worry would be he doesn’t want to let her down. She’s so young. It hits a bit differently when it’s his baby. He doesn’t want to mess anything up. It also deeply hurts him to see her in discomfort—just like with her Mama.

So it’s a bit rough on Papa but he pulls through as always.

He teaches her some breathing exercises and also a bit of acupressure to help with the pain

Definitely is big on food consumption during her cycle, especially starting out. He makes sure she gets lots of protein and iron, and rest.

This is also Ba’vodu Tech’s time to shine

Now during the first account of her period the boys are scrambling like befuddled cadets.

But Tech is the first one to recover quickly and soundly

He is very by the book, and aside from Hunter he becomes the most hands-on throughout the entire process, reading articles and taking lots of notes

He does not have the best bedside manners and this leads to a bit of an increase in stress for everyone. Tech means well but he is so factual and intent on conformity and structure during her cycle that he starts to butt heads

He gets a bit carried away with informing his niece of every minute change and characteristic and guideline and baby girl quickly becomes overwhelmed (not her fault OBVIOUSLY; stupid hormones.)

Hunter can get a bit snappy then.

He’s typically level-headed but Hunter develops a strong no-tolerance for his brothers’ nonsense when his daughter’s on her period.

During this time he makes it very clear that his word is final and he is going to do everything in her best interest regardless of opinion. He knows what his baby needs. That’ll be the end of it.

That being said, Tech is the second most reliable person when it comes to keeping her supplied with feminine products and painkillers and general information

He helps her make sense of cycle days and the sequences of symptom, which she comes to greatly appreciate

Ba’vodu Wrecker is on comfort duty

He’s not fooling with all of Tech’s calculations and projections, he’s got the heating pad and pillowy arms and in his humble opinion that’s all she needs

Ba’vodu Wrecker also adapts very quickly to the situation and he is a real champ throughout

Baby girl loves snuggling up with Wrecker during particularly bad cramps, goodness it’s her favorite thing

Wrecker will just cradle her in his arms for hours; however long she needs

Ba’vodu Wrecker just swaying back and forth with her, rubbing her back or her stomach while keeping heat on her

Oftentimes she ends up falling asleep in his arms and she gets the best naps during that time and Hunter is very grateful

Ba’vodu Wrecker gets an A+ for his efforts

Ba’vodu Crosshair.

Well. He... tries...?

First time she gets her period? Crosshair goes *poof*.

He is very out of his element. He is, quite honestly, beyond freaked out.

Of course he won’t ever admit that.

Like he knows about females and menstruation but it’s... very weird when it affects his small niece.

He doesn’t mean to be avoiding but he really doesn’t know what the hell to do and so he’ll just stand by and observe in this nonchalant way and he quite honestly looks like an inconsiderate ass

Tech will get onto him (privately), Hunter... just doesn’t even fool with it. He doesn’t have the energy to divert away from his baby, and scolding Crosshair will benefit neither of them. He knows how his brother is and he knows he’ll come around eventually.

It tears Crosshair up because his heart says to go over there and scoop up his Commando Princess and hold her real tight but his anxiety says to hit the road

So he just... hovers.

For the first cycle and several after.

She asks about him many times. Where is he, is he okay...

Ba’vodu Crosshair eventually finds his groove.

His role? Smuggling sweets.

He’s the man for satisfying those sweet cravings

He slips a candy bar under her bedroom door one day and she literally starts crying.

Crosshair is scared to death but she assures him he didn’t do anything wrong and that it’s just her “wack feelings” but she is very happy with the chocolate.

She begs and pleads with him to come in and sit with her.

The first time Crosshair does, it feels right. He realizes it’s not scary, everything’s okay, this is part of life, she’s growing up.

He doesn’t much like that last thought but he holds her real tight.

His favorite time is after everyone’s settled in for the night; that’s when Ba’vodu Crosshair gets his cuddle session.

He always comes bearing treats. They snack and talk throughout the night and it always lifts her spirits.

And when she tells Crosshair, blissed out with a mouthful of chocolate, that he’s her favorite Ba’vodu?

Damn. Crosshair feels like he’s won at life.

Ba’vodu Echo is a real winner here.

First time she gets her period he is jarred much like Crosshair, but Echo makes it a point to listen and pay attention and educate himself of the inner workings, even though it makes him uncomfortable

He spends a lot of time with Hunter and Tech, asking lots of questions and retaining the bits of information he feels are most pertinent

Ba’vodu Echo pulls a lot of smiles from her, and the others are a bit envious of his ability

His unique sense of humor and laidback temperament proves very comforting, and she spends a lot of time with Ba’vodu Echo just soaking up his wry jokes and bizarre philosophy

So uh the Bavodu’e end up creating one giant competition over who falls into favor with her and wins the most brownie points during those seven days.

The ranks are constantly fluctuating but man Ba’vodu Crosshair and his sweets and Ba’vodu Wrecker and his snuggles are neck and neck.

Hunter is just... he just shakes his head.

To be fair, a lot of my issues stem back to how the MCU framed Ultron and the Civil War. The question of accountability, in and of itself, is absolutely important, and there's so much richness and ethical complexity that could be pulled out and explored re: vigilantism vs. state-sanctioned violence, accountability, etc etc. The 616 comics flubbed it, but MCU just made it an absolute mess and, in doing so, actually undermined both the coherence and the moral fortitude of Steve's position entirely while still trying to make him the underdog hero (????). MCU as well as various comic lines have a habit of trying to make Captain America into Marvel's moral compass without really....doing it consistently or well at all, imo.

Anyway, so given that, because I'm salty about everything and also I was still a bit feverish from COVID at the time...

(Under a cut for both length and vitriol @ the MCU.)

Infinity War:

The consequences of the Civil War were just....swept aside and forgotten, which took one of the biggest events in Marvel's comic history and marked a HUGE change in the MCU and then...ignored it??? Because increasing the stakes of a conflict is the only way that too many content creators know how to create emotional tension but who don't want to deal with the emotional nuances/consequences in any meaningful way. (Cue a lot of interesting and infuriating film articles analyzing why films no longer have 'quiet scenes' and how the MCU really codified that.)

The rogue Avengers were reintroduced in a way that pushed hard on the 'misunderstood vigilante' trope, which, see above re: Civil War and my complete inability to buy into that, so it came off less as 'badass underdogs' and more 'oh, I am Misunderstood and Suffering Nobly and Broodingly.' I've been a goth for 20 years, I can smell that self-indulgent nonsense a mile away.

The Jossification of movie writing in which consistent characterization is sacrificed if it means a witty one-liner, but that's just the MCU as a whole at this point. It was fun when it was still 2000 and Buffy was a campy cute TV show already designed around this form of humor from the very start. It's boring, unimaginative, and bad writing at this point.

Changing Thanos to be an attempted commentary on...I guess environmentalism, but done badly, and by the Disney megacorporation no less (not for the first time; Disney's World of Tomorrow is even more heavyhanded about it), is just...look. Look. Just let him slaughter people because he wants to bone Death, pun totally intended, that's way more interesting as a plot point than whatever MCU tried to do.

Something about the way Wakanda was handled felt weird? It felt like the majority white US characters were once again taking precedence over any of Wakanda's story, I think, but I don't have language yet to pin down where my sense of wobbliness there is coming from exactly, just that a lot of the scenes set in Wakanda had me feeling ://// and like I needed someone to stuff Steve in a closet somewhere for a while.

And Endgame:

Steve as a peer counselor is the FUNNIEST FUCKING IDEA, I assume it's meant as an homage to Sam Wilson but HE'S THE ACTUAL WORST CHARACTER OPTION FOR THAT ROLE and that is my honest professional judgment, okay, dear gods. (This is not me just dunking him - I legitimately have reasons for this judgment.)

I'm tired of MCU treating Thor like a big dumb asshole. His character development has become a boring repeating cycle. It's like the writers or whomever just didn't know what to do with him but couldn't pretend he didn't exist. Cue the Lebowski jokes, I guess.

Really, it feels like MCU just doesn't care about its own characters and what gives each of them the depth that made them so beloved in the first place, period.

Gettin' real tired of people trying to redeem Howard fucking Stark in a way that feels like it's trying to minimize his impact on Tony. MCU!Howard doesn't seem nearly as bad as 616!Howard, but you can just let a character be Complicated! They don't have to be demonized or redeemed!

I was 100% here for RDJ's improv of yelling at Cap, though. :D

The final battle didn't give me warm fuzzies about Marvel's Big Three fighting together because there hasn't been emotional depth between them...ever*, really.

Honestly, none of the attempts at emotional depth ever landed for me. But then, I've never been sold on the chemistry for any of the canon relationships, romantic or otherwise, even back in IM2 for Pepperony.

The biggest emotional takeaway for me was the realization that nothing - not Howard, not torture, not SHIELD - was able to break Tony's heart and will the way that the loss of the Avengers was able to. And that makes sense, it does.........but I truly don't believe that that's what MCU was ever intending to imply. 🙃

Pepper suddenly ending up in a suit after multiple movies of her hating the armor didn't make any sense to me (unlike her role as Rescue in 616).

I'm on board with other folks who point out the ethical dubiousness, at best, of reversing the snap FIVE YEARS LATER.

The final battle felt like a) another 'let's up the stakes for emotional tension' issue and b) a narratively contradictory choice since so much of the MCU was DEFINED by the very question regarding the tragedy of superhero battles, and the CGI made it look like it went waaaaaay beyond the limits of the Compound.

*The Avengers (2012) isn't exactly flawless and fuck Joss Whedon forever, but at least it felt like it was setting up the MCU with the potential for the fun of 616's early New Avengers era in which the Avengers were dorks in the tower. There was potential! Fandom in 2012 was based on real canon! And then MCU went fuck all of you, I guess.

I'm sorry, but, I'm confused as to why you think he DIDN'T record with a live band. We have no idea what he's doing 99% of the time. We know where he's been. There are big huge gaps of unaccounted for time. I also don't think we'll find out exactly which producers he's worked with till he starts single/album promo. Everyone seems to think it's either/or. But it can be all/both. Slow Hands says that he could be recording bits for the rest of the summer AND still writing. We will see.

i mean??? there’s really NOT all that much unaccounted time where he could have been recording with a full live band, from what i’ve seen?? doing that takes quite a bit of time, with jaquire and the studio sessions they had, it was six weeks booked solid for just studio recording time. and it’s not like there would be a day booked here, a day booked there, you know?? i think it’s VERY unlikely that they wouldn’t book out at least a full week or two at a time since live band recording is dependent on so many people being at the same place at the same time. and timeline-wise, there really haven’t been days and weeks on end of unaccounted time where he could have been recording with a live band unless he’s either got a) all of them traveling around with him, b) a different set of guys at each location, and both of those seem VERY unlikely to me, i think??? here look:

Feb 19 - “this is all just the writing time . we make demos and then go and record the songs properly at a later date” this was the last in a series of reassurances that he was only writing up to that point, so unless he’s lying, it’s unlikely that any recording would have happened up to that point.

ESPECIALLY for recording with a live band, unless he himself was not in the room at the time??? but i don’t think that’s likely because it just Does Not Makes Sense to me that this man and who i believe him to be would give up control on his second album (HIS NEW BABY!!! :’/) enough to not be there for every second of the recording and creation of it. the only thing that MAYBE makes sense is that he’s got a producer in london that he’s been working with quite a bit 👀🤔

EDIT: i got so caught up in the timeline bit that i didn’t even answer the rest of the question ghlaskdfj but i don’t really know if it’s fair to compare the slow hands sessions to the possibility of writing and recording at the same time NOW, you know?? cause for that, he had those six weeks or so in the studio with jaquire, had the album in a place where he was feeling good about it, 8 songs complete. then he had those slow hands sessions already booked and decided “why not” for the fuck of it, and it seems like from what he showed us then, that was ALSO a case of completing those writing sessions before ever going back to the studio recording sessions with julian. 

with nh2, it seems like the bahamas writing camp was basically the end of writing sessions he had booked, and going off the timeline from nh1, that would mean that he would be transitioning to the proper recording time. obviously that might not be the case considering he’s saying that the album is DONE done, and that’s where a lot of the confusion for me comes from because he’s not following his own patterns and precedents halskjdf
