Agatha All Along in general but especially Agatha and Rio are so fucking special to me and I cannot be normal about this...

We are finally not being queer-baited. Whether they seal it with a kiss or a flashback scene or a happy ending it doesn't matter. We have confirmation that those two women were and still are deeply in love.

It's two mature women. No weird age gap, no mentor-pupil dynamic, no disproportionate power play. I find coming out and setting into your queerness stories incredibly important but it is so refreshing to see a story where the discovery and accepting that you're queer isn't the focal point. They just are who they are and neither them nor the people around them had a big dramatic reaction to it like it's something strange or unexpected. They just ARE and my god is that beautiful to witness ❤️

Their softness, connection and care for eachother is so heartbreaking. Agatha smiling and leaning into Rio when talking about her scar cause Rio already knows, Agatha melting just by having her hair played with, Rio refusing the kiss cause that would be taking advantage of Agatha's weak moment, making sure she knows that Teen isn't her son, Rio regretting what she had to do for centuries. I am losing my mind over here

The whole cast is mature women (well, + Joe haha) which again, refreshing as hell to see. And I love how the focus isn't just completely on Agatha. We get constant glimpses into everyone. Jen saved the day twice already. Alice had her beautiful moment in e4, Teen is basically their spirit guide with his spell book. Adore that lil funky boy Agatha technically kidnapped but whom she very obviously cares for more than she would like to. Lilia is my favourite of this new found coven family. Her and Agatha are the oldest and have seen the most and suffered through so much. I think that's why she softened up to Agatha and vice versa. Beside Teen, Agatha seems to be the softest towards Lilia like when she had her hallucinations and she didn't mock her but reassured her it's ok and Lilia's constant blurting out of prophecies like "Protect Agatha" 😭😭. I could go on for ages about all of their dynamics.

And everything about the production and the actors themselves being SOOO invested into the story and clearly loving what they do.

I don't give a shit about Marvel in general but damn, they got me with this one. Canonically gay witches, Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza, musical numbers and then they throw in miss icon legend mother Patti Lupone on top of it all. I am in every possible way the target audience

The talk about how witches, monsters and in general creatures feared by the wider population are so very deeply queer coded is for another day but AAAAAAAAAAA I love everything about this show so much I might just explode

I'm gona explain to yall why I think Stanley is the one that's ace aro in cannon and not Ford or Bill. (Yes all head cannons are vaild blah blah I love acearo people I am one don't kill me)

Young stan seems to be considered relatively conventional attractive (not like ugly men don't mange to hook up but still) and even as a "ugly" old man he is the hottest old person in town befor Ford shows up and. "What about Stanley's ex wife's" I hear you scream at your screens well thanks to Bill I have notes.

Now I think 2 of them can be considered legitimate and there not exactly romantic are they. Stanley is well known to care more about money than any romantic relationship witch dosnt sound like some one who's not aro to me. I'll give that there are a couple jokes pokeing wholes in my theroy however personaly any atemps at straightness by stan just feel very performative to me. Like there's something a whole easy to about how stans masculinity is just a reaction to incurity but all I'll say for now is stan is despite to prove he's not a failure and part of growing up in the 80s and not being a failure is geting bitches. pt IX good omens on livestream, i'm not ok: S1E4

In preparation for the stream, I gathered two emotional support oranges, only one of which was gaseous, and an apple. This was so that rather than waste an orange on being gay for Crowley I'd use the apple for that, symbolic of his temptation in the Garden of Eden etc. I didn't know how badly this plan would go.

On Discord, our collective loins girded, I noticed with no small suspicion that everyone was muttering about the bookshop and whether I'd be okay. When I demanded frantically what happened to the bookshop (I THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS IN S2) everyone shut up and told me the bookshop was in tiptop shape and it was all tickety-boo and nothing would happen at all in episode 5.

So one thing it's important to remember is: back in the 1970s and 80s a religion where women run the show was very progressive. Feminism got bolted onto Wicca pretty quickly once it hit the American West Coast and Starhawk wrote The Spiral Dance. Things like worshipping a goddess who didn't need a man around to tell her what to do were really unusual for the time. All this hippie-dippy shit like being naked in your rituals and such was far out, man, not like those totally square and boring Christians.

The problem is that, like many older people who were once cool and progressive, they just kind of stopped where they were in the 70s and 80s and didn't really......well, progress past that point. This leads to things like statements like that one in A Witches' Bible where they think that actually gay people are perfectly OK in ritual (this was a bit of a controversial point at the time) as long as they act like their biological gender, which is hilarious to us in 2024 because they obviously conflate being gay with being trans in some bizarre fashion. This was progressive for the time. It comes across as incredibly ignorant today. And of course, if their ideas did change, well, the book is already out there, people are reading it, and you can't go back in time and change something that's already been published. You can add notes or amendments to further editions, but I don't believe they ever did that, and Stewart Farrar died in the early aughts.

I find the polyamory thing to be pretty cringe, NGL, because I am a judgmental and suspicious piece of shit and think that an awful lot of the time polyamory is a tool used to make younger women sexually available to older men - good Lord, the age difference between Stewart and Janet - and that's very distasteful.

In my opinion the Farrars are probably the stodgiest and most conservatively-written books you'll find from that time period, and they're a good example of what coven-based Alexandrian Wicca looked like at that time, but there were a lot of more relaxed writers out there at the time and LOTS more a few years later. My primary complaint with A Witches' Bible is rather specifically that asinine Oak King / Holly King thing which they made up entirely and then ineptly shoehorned into the Wheel of the Year, where it just doesn't fucking work, and then everyone else just kind of went with it. No! It sucks and is bad, don't do it!

Do I think they do more harm than good? No, I don't. I think that anyone fairly new to Wicca shouldn't read this book first thing out the gate because it sets a lot of very unrealistic expectations, and because it's pretty old - Eight Sabbats for Witches was published in 1981, which makes it a few years older than me, and The Witches' Way in 1984, which makes it a year younger than me, and TBH there's much newer and fresher material being published every year. I would much sooner recommend someone like Thorn Mooney to new person interested in traditional Wicca.

ok this one's both backlist and was very popular when it came out but probably most 25 year old tumblr users have not read it. well they should read the hare with amber eyes by edmund de waal for a deep DEEP dive into the complicated world of rich jewish art collectors + socialites in odesa, vienna, and paris in the 1800s through the early 1900s by tracing the object history of a collection of netsuke from the opening of japan through the changing landscape of central + western europe and then back to japan [nonfiction/art history]

currently i'm reading cancipin by priest which is a space opera danmei that seeks to answer the questions "could it ever be ethical to do genetic engineering" "how do you build a just society" "is it ever worth it to give up your freedom in exchange for safety and convenience" "how do you keep going after the destruction of your entire planet" "what if data star trek were a beautiful young man and part time robot arm who was best friends with the worst gay people in the entire world" [sci fi/romance]

haven't seen a lot of it, mostly that people like it, that it's made by people people really like and that it's gay (or at least people make it gay) so you know, good pick for me. and i just watched to animations/animatics on youtube with bad endings and bad endings fuck me up, so hopefully this is happier. intro is a fucking banger. also god has a fem voice? nice. accurate skin colour for the earliest humans. not surprised, but appreciated. making fun of theology and great banter? i love it.

4 Fredrika/Grand Sophy/Arabella by Georgette Heyer just a few of the regency romances I love - also got some mom and wlw ones on list

5 The Fionavar Triology Guy Gavriel Gay - magic /Celtic gods and myths/ Arthurian legends /elves /dwarves princes and tragedy. This book had the first character death that broke my heart. I can still remember sobbing!!

6 Green Creek series- TJ Klune - gay werewolves what’s not to like . Think these books changed my brain chemistry

You know what we need? We need a reboot of First Kill with better plot, better writing, better characterization, better world building, better fashion and a much higher budget.

We need Calliope and Juliette’s romance to be truly fleshed out and feel real enough that we can feel attached to them as a couple. We need to see them break up and then get back together because their love is transcending! We need to see them having other girlfriends even and have favorite pairings!

We need a new hit vampire show that centers Lesbians!

We (LGBT+ People / Of Color) deserve to have our very own high-budget well written shows. We deserve gay pairings that are so interesting that we would care so much about them to the point where we’d be able to scream “Team [X]!” or “Team [Y]!” whenever a Lesbian would be involved in a love triangle. We deserve to have media where Queer characters aren’t reduced to their love life but where it’s still plays a huge role in the plot! We deserve to have trans witch characters that we would love so much that we’d cosplay them, try to emulate their style, buy items inspired by them and create whole fandoms around! And see hot supernatural creatures fighting over who gets the beautiful trans woman’s attention!

Basically what I’m trying to say is, we deserve to have shows that are so well-made that they get worldwide attention. I want to see a show centering LGBT characters doing so good that they make literal events and create shops based on it, like they do for Stranger Things! It’s tiring of always getting crumbs when we deserve so much more!

I totally feel you Nonny! Its so frustrating because aside from Pose we're only given a single trans woman in any media. There's a novel series that I started that I haven't finished yet (I can't seem to find an update on the 3rd novel)

ok so the main character is a trans woman Dani and she becomes a super hero quite suddenly. I wish it would be adapted as a movie and that the author would give us the third book. I can just imagine all the pretty cosplayers being Dreadnought for Halloween or for the movie premiere.

Hmmmm well i just started listening to danger days the other day on its birthday and I noticed that some of the "songs" are just clips of a guy talking! So I'd love to learn about that 👀

*happy stimming sounds* OK GREAT AMAZING. So danger days is a concept album (aka. Album that tells a story). So. The premise is. It’s 2019 and the world is basically in ruins after these wars called the helium wars and the analog wars basically destroyed it. Everything is a desert waste land except for this one city called battery city. battery city is run by an evil mega corporation called better living industries or BL/ind for short. Battery city is super fucked up like. Everyone has to take meds to stop them from feeling emotions and if u fuck up at all or show signs the brainwashing isn’t working they send you to get re-educated. Everything is like all white and there are fluorescent lights everywhere you get the picture. Ok so then. Outside the city. There is this place called the zones. And basically. The people who manage to escape bat city live there and they are called killjoys and/or zone runners. They live in abandoned buildings and eat expired food from before the war or stuff smuggled out of the city. Most famously, they eat power pup which is BL/ind branded dog food but it’s ok cuz they all have cool hair and cool names and like. They are all gay. All of them. Also in the zones they worship this lady called the Phoenix witch who is kinda like the grim reaper. She’s like a bird lady who helps souls pass on. In the zones there is a heavily graffitied mailbox known as the witches mailbox and when someone close to you dies ypu are supposed to put something that belonged to them in it so that the witch will help there soul move on. Usually you put there mask if they wore one. (Did I mention that killjoys have super swag masks? They do) ok so yeah. So the characters that the band members play are:

They are part of a crew (fancy zone word for found family) known as the fabulous killjoys or the fabulous four. They are protecting a young girl known simply as “the girl” that is destined to destroy battery city and save them all, however nobody knows that yet, not even her. other notable characters include

Dr. D runs a extremely popular radio show in the zones and the idea behind the album is that you are listening to his radio show (that’s who the guy is that’s talking, that’s dr. D) cherri cola is Dr. D’s bestie and showpony is. Definitely also there. (They are a polycule in my heart but that isn’t cannon) so the story of the album is that the killjoys are vibing, living there best found family lives right? Taking care of this kid and stuff. But uh oh spaghetti-o, BL/ind figured out that the girl is important and they send this guy called korse who is a scarecrow (bat city word for like. Assassin type beat) and he goes and kidnaps the girl. The fab four are like. FUCK THATS OUR KID and go rescue her but all get gunned down in the process. Luckily dr. D shows up and gets the girl back to desert but he doesn’t make it in time to save the Fab Four and they all die. Than Gerard wrote a comic book sequel to the album following the girl as a teenager but that’s a different story for a different day. Yeah it’s weird but there’s a lot of world building at the beginning and it’ll answer all your questions I promise

One of the things people will say about straights - and I swear that this is true - is that they shouldn’t talk about what it’s like to be gay or from the gay perspective, but just sit down and listen to what gays themselves have to say about their own experiences. No straight actor should be allowed to play gay, no straight author should write about an experience that is so personal and that they can not know anything about. Ok.

But then fanfic writers and their readers break this rule all the time. Almost all fanfiction is written by women and much of it is about gay love. So, professional straight authors should stay in their lane, while amateurs give themselves permission to do whatever they like. Rules for thee, not for me, apparently.

But let us by all means imagine what would have happened if Stephenie Meyer had included gay couples in her novels. I think it's self-explanatory. If you see the disgusting way that she has been accused of being a racist for writing about the Quileute in a positive way, and including them in her story instead of erasing them like actual racists always do, it’s pretty clear that she would also have been saddled with the accusation of homophobia... because the point is always that women shouldn't write books.

That is why she is being accused of homophobia regardless, even though she has kept gay characters out of her books. It’s the witch’s trials all over again, where you’re damned if you sink and you’re damned if you swim. That is why male authors don’t go through this. She is guilty of being a woman in public, visible in society instead of being at home, closed in a closet, wearing a burka, thinking about her sins.

Misogynists will be sexist, nothing about this should come as a surprise. But it still sucks that Radblr has no words of support to say in favor of one of America’s most prestigious and most successful female authors of her generation, even though Radblr is supposed to be about supporting women, and even though Smeyer has been relentlessly persecuted just like JK Rowling, often having her books burned in the same pyre.

Stuff like this is how I know that Radblr is about right-wing transphobia and not about feminism. An online group that defends people like Andrea Dworkin (who, it must be once again reiterated, advocated for incest and bestiality) but not Stephenie Meyer who is a Progressive anti-colonialist and feminist; a group that doesn’t see the point in praising a woman whose life exemplifies what giving women equal opportunities in education and in work can achieve... nor sees the point in protecting her when she is met with the inevitable sexist persecution that such women always attract, such a group is not exactly invested in securing more equality and dignity for women. They’re just misandrists wasting everybody’s time.

The bad:

Bloom by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau: not bad so much as it’s boring. Did not care about any of the characters and tbh couldn’t tell you a thing that happened.

The fine: If This Gets Out by Cale Dietrich and Sophie Gonzalez: look there’s a lot of really great material in this book but because it only focuses on 2 of the 4 members of this boy band we miss out on like half of the stuff brought up in this book. Also I’d love it if we learned to correctly describe a book because they way people talked about it I genuinely thought it’d be a cute romance between 2 members of said boy band and like...one of the characters has a drug-induced psychotic break so it is very much not a cute romance.

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn: I finally watched Bridgerton so my sister shoved this into my hands and I knocked it out in like a day. Penelope’s storyline was Colin realizing there was more to her because she’s smarter and funnier than she lets on and Penelope’s storyline was realizing there was more to Colin because he...has...anger issues? Idk. There was a scene where I thought he was gonna hit her but it didn’t happen thankfully. Anyway, Kinda toxic.

Secret Service by Tal Bauer: OK FINE. This is the author of those other two terrible romances I read. This one was by far the best of the three I’ve read. Anyway it’s basically a very good season of Scandal (forbidden gay romance between the president and his head of Secret Service detail! Political intrigue! Betrayal!) Also, it didn’t end in a throuple and i was shocked and upset.

The good/great:

The Secret Life of Albert Entwhistle by Matt Cain: checks all my boxes - unlikely friendships. Coming of age but it’s an older person. Reconnecting with people from your past. Healing the trauma of your childhood. Very, very sweet.

The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec: made me want to delve deeper into Norse mythology. Like Circe by Madeline Miller, if Circe was more plot heavy.

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames: this is kind of a dad book but it’s fun. Set in a fantasy world where mercenary bands are treated similarly to how we treat rock stars. It’s a classing “getting the band back together” storyline with more character development I thought we’d get. Some characters are more fully realized than others and it definitely has flaws but it was still extremely entertaining.

Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White: an extremely disturbing YA post apocalyptic about a trans boy who escapes a religious ecoterrorist cult. Lots of body horror and Religious Trauma which I think is done really well in the narration. Also love that he finds shelter with a group of teens from the city’s LGBTQ shelter and there’s like...a lot of disagreements and fighting between them which I feel like you never see.

The Honeys by Ryan La Sala: like Jennifer’s Body meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets Heathers (just a little) meets But I’m a Cheerleader (just a little). Surreal and twisty and very, very fun. I read this in an afternoon and had a great time. It’s about a kid whose twin sister escapes from the fancy summer camp she’s been attending without him and breaks into his room in an attempt to kill him and ends up dying herself, and he wants to investigate.

💘 - OK so Magnus is kind of simple. He enjoys baking and loves his girlfriend. He's been baking since forever and it's a very important part of his life (and one of the very few things he's had his whole entire life, and didn't have to give up.) He also likes Qiana because uh she's smart and she's pretty and she's nice and she's amazing and she's wonderful and she's beautiful and shes-

🌈 - Magnus is very rare case among my oc's due to the fact he's completely cishet lol. He's just a straight dude. He uses he/him most of the time, but it's VERY canon he's used to responding to it/its, but he literally hates it.

Qiana

💘 - Qiana holds the field of biology almost strangely close to her, she's very devoted to it and almost revolves her life around it. She cares about her friends, and she's absolutely horrible and showing it but she really cares about Magnus too (She doesn't really mind being called his girlfriend, but Magnus being called her boyfriend literally makes her really embarrassed about being perceived.)

🌈 - Qiana's bi. Her romantic life hadn't really gone much of anywhere more than 1st dates before she met Magnus. She uses she/they most of the time and likes that bit of androgyny she keeps when she just calls herself Dr. Roosevelt. It's a VERY SPECIFIC feeling (hmm I wonder where I got this from) but yeah she doesn't really present too feminine, they look pretty androgynous but yeah she's a girl.

Mira

💘 - Mira holds lots of things and people close to her. She really loves her family and her totally-not-her-girlfriend, and she likes magic too! She's a witch too, so she has all the typical items, the broom, and the wand, which she cherishes also. (It doesn't matter that Sylvia makes fun of how gaudy they are. Life without sparkles is no life at all.)

🌈 - GIRLKISSER. Yeah, Mira is completely sapphic and she comes to realize that throughout the story. She uses she/her, presents feminine and stuff but yeah she's gay. :p

Sylvia

💘 - Sylvia likes books, magic, and Mira close. She's afraid to let much more in. She has hobbies, but she's not really attached to any of them. Sylvia will not admit it but she is a literal NERD who is almost concerningly magically inclined.

🌈 - GIRLKISSER NUMBER TWO. She is well aware she is gay in a very conservative and backward society and she wears it directly on her chest and she knows no one's gonna do shit about it. She uses she/her personally but like it's not really defined as well? She doesn't really care that people mistake her for a guy? She finds it funny when people come to her expecting a man, she usually just doesn't even bother actually correcting them. She doesn't mind when people who don't know her use he/him for her? If I *try* to put it in modern terms I guess I'd call her a chapstick lesbian bc she doesn't really care all too much??? idk man

ok so i was going through my tags and through old posts but i genuinely think of this post so much.

its just, this style, this "rebelliousness", was always there, like i said.

bc i realized i was bi in the beginning of seventh grade, and it was quite easy for me to come to terms with that bc i had been a huge ally sixth grade. i just had opinions and was curious.

seventh grade me and my friends fell out (we were young, its just what happens), and they were all straight, but one of my friends at the time kinda gravitated towards the like queer group in school and she was my friend even through that fall out so i also started hanging out with queer people more and more and so like at the end of seventh grade i was basically the token straight lmfao. pretty funny.

somehwere arounf the start of eight grade i realized i liked one of my friends. and she was a girl. but i came to terms with it pretty quickly cause it made sense after being friends with them cause a lot of things they said resonated a lot yk.

and i think since then my parents started liking me less and less.

you see, queer ppl dress very badass. and i had been friends with them at the end of 7th grade, so ever since the start of 8th, i started experimenting and taking my moms clothes. and more and more i came to realize more abt my sexuality and my place in this world, i wasn't the perfect innocent child my parents had anymore. i could have been, except heavy eye makeup looks makes me a witch and crop tops make me a slut.

but my parent think that this isnt me and that it isn't my fault but rather it was the fault of the people i became friends with. so now they get so much shit, i fight them so much bc they cant talk about my friends like that and i just don't know anymore honestly. i don't even speak to them that much anymore cause we moved after middle school, and my parents still bring it up as to how I'm still corrupted cause i still love my makeup and clothing style.

they think ive been corrupted, and theyve told me so many times too. and there's many times where there would be a gay book and they find out its gay or a show or movie. and its my friends fault. bc he knows they're gay. so maybe yeah. maybe i did technically get corrupted, but its not bad this time.

and what sucks most is that i cant even tell them. bc i cant even start to explain cause its just me. it feels rights. whether it be my sexuality or fashion. its just the way i am. just like how some people like red more than blue and how some people like chocolate ice cream over vanilla i just like my bold sense of style.

ive always been like this, and if i had been more open to lgbtq+ people, i would've probably know i liked girl sooner.
