eye... need to stop sleeping at 3am when i have work the next day le sigh.... anyways v funny how i need at least 5 ref pics at all times to feel safe LOL first real attempt drawing on procreate i mean i made some sketches and fcked around w it before but idk how i feel about the textured lines, i do like it on one hand but idk if it'll look weird with smoother coloring idk i will def export this into sai to color cuz im just sooooo used to sai my beloved💖 i render / paint SOO specifically with sai idk wat to do in like any other program the brushes just act different so my workflow is like??? also an artist i love works on clip and one part of me is wondering if i can color better if i also work on clip but i dunno 😐 clip looks complex i did try it a few yrs ago and got intimidated by the unfamiliarity and gave up way too fast 😓 idt i will ever render on procreate but lining is somehow a bit easier on the screen i think? or is that just the textured brush lol i think its harder lining with a non textured brush in general.

I still use SAI, as for other programs I haven't used them but I heard Krita and Ibis Paint can be good as free(?) options, if u want something more modern/with a lot of options there's CSP, there's something about it that just doesn't click for me but a lot of ppl use it and if ur planning on getting an ipad for any reason there's always procreate

as for tablets any small/medium tablet you can get for 100€ or less can be good for starting out, personally I recommend wacoms, they perform well on their cheaper models as well, for other brands you have to go on their more expensive models to get the same performance (just in my experience)

I currently use the Huion Kamvas pro 16 and I've been using it for years so I got no other recs but I wouldn't get something too expensive as first tablet, hope that helps!

Hello! I loved your work right off the bat and I really would like to ask about your art, if you don't mind.

How did you start? Like the apps you used and what tips can you give to help beginners.. Your stroke is wonderful and I love when you paint but I have trouble finishing my arts in terms of painting, whenever I try it looks bad and I end up giving up

Hello! And no bother at all dw that’s what asks are for!

Me and feral both began with traditional art when we were young and didn’t start digital until our mid teens but the best program and tools we’ve used in our opinion was definitely an iPad with the procreate app

But I would also recommend clip studio paint that is usable on any computer with even a simple drawing pad (like a Wacom but I’m sure there’s others around that are cheaper too)

As for tips you can always watch coloring processes on YouTube or from an artist that is streaming to see what tools and techniques they use to get their results and to continue practicing and experimenting even if u don’t like the results

Even now me and feral still pick up techniques and ideas from each other and other artists, just keep trying! It takes time to build a skill and just like anything else practice and time helps you improve!

As for motivation there’s not much I can help there, everyone gets motivated differently to complete things it’s just about finding what works for you, for us it’s able to see the finally product, maybe we don’t always like to but it’s satisfying to say we at least finished it and maybe later on after a few other projects we can come back and remake it again with a fresh mind but at least the base is there for what the general idea was

to answer your next question, it really depends how long my creating process takes, i’d guess it usually is something between 2-4 hours to finish a piece, a simpler one might take something around an hour or even less.

hi hi!!! I use a mix of procreate and clip studio paint (ex)!!! just depends on what tablet I want to use for the day lol 💗

to get the texture on my drawings I use paint tool sai as well so I’m using 3 programs at once tbh LOL!!!! (I should rlly record an updated art process video… it would be interesting at the very least haha).

hi thank you so much! going to answer this mostly abt procreate since i answered abt some of my photoshop brushes a while back and i still basically only use kyle websters gouache blaire brush for everything.

for adding texture over finished stuff i tend to use this set from true grit texture supply. it’s from their free sampler pack. i think u have to subscribe to their newsletter for it but i think it’s worth + it has same set for both procreate + photoshop (and a bunch of other programs too i think) which i love as someone who is indecisive abt programs. when i’m in photoshop i also love to use their butcher paper texture as an overlay for almost everything.

i also rlly like these ones….the 6b ones are all procreate default or edited versions of it. and other ones are i think from tip top brush sets. not sure which ones anymore they are all chilling together in my folder of fav brushes (sorry). if anyone wants u can dm me and i can send u to the zip file where i saved all of mine..… the chisels are from this brush set. these are not particularly textured but i love them for line art+sketching & there’s a few more textured brushes in there as well.

also in photoshop i really like to use a soft round brush on a mid to low opacity & with the dissolve brush mode on to add texture that war.

I use procreate on an ipad pro (10.5 2017). i have a loooot of brushes ive been downloading here and there (been usince hte ipade for 5 years) but the one pack i used to sketch the most rn is this one !!

aw thank u!! i mostly use Procreate (ipad only) for comics and illustrations but i use photoshop for bigger semirealism or concept art stuff (or if i'm just using my computer instead lol)!!!! here are the grand total of 5 brushes I use:

(it's a custom brush -- sergey kolesov's soft eliptical 45 + aufgenomer pencil 1 3 -- and the procreate default 6B pencil + thyaciline + bonobo!!)

my lineart brush is a custom version of sergey kolesov's soft eliptical brush bc while on photoshop you can edit its hardness, procreate doesnt let you so I had to remake a hard version of the brush myself!!

yea man sure! All packs listed are for free and are either made specifically for Procreate or work in it

the vast majority come from ren’s huge pack.

It’s been the pack I’ve been using since pretty much the beginning of picking up Procreate and my more notable brushes come from it. There’s a fair bit of editing that’s been done to make them feel nicer for my hand and Oguo but darker is just a duplicate of oguo that I changed the brush shape by using the original to make a more solid shape. It can be pretty compatible with a bunch of different styles too with its range like I don’t even use half of these brushes especially in the sketching and lining sections so there will probably be something you like

Amontis 1st pack has a bunch of wonderful textures, my favourite being the noises round pen. the free natural gouache pack is small with only three brushes but they’re good ones

if you have CSP I cannot recommend Qamala’s graphic marker enough it was my main brush back when I used the program and I’ve been trying to recreate it in Procreate to… limited success. The “faithful remake” in the name is because it’s closer than my initial attempt and probably the closest I’ll be getting.

i use procreate on an ipad pro! it’s my favorite art program by FAR. simple UI that still provides rich tools. it allows me to do everything i could ever want currently. also, thank you SO much!!!! i take pride in my handwriting. i think it looks like that because i grew up loving comic books with hand lettering lawl

I’m an ipad kid so procreate is my baby girl, and I use a modified default brush called shale!

(And when I say modified I mean MODIFIED here have these)

Main things I tweak are 1) shape, 2) tilt, and 3) streamline (how much autopilot u want on ur lineart)

Hello! I love your work so much especially how you do your animatics and animations! I have a couple of art related questions if that’s alright but no pressure at all I understand!

I’ve been wanting to get into more digital art/animation but I was wondering what program do you use and what canvas size do you rec for uploading to TikTok and other social media? I’m using procreate but just wondering! (Your work looks so crispy and clean and I struggle with quality drop at times 🫡) do you use a custom brush for your linework or the default brushes in your program? Also what do you use to edit for videos? Do you adjust the image to fit when making a video or do you use a canvas size that will work with TikToks? Lastly what program do you use to animate?

Ok these questions I have received quite often and I will be genuinely honest, I don't know how to answer them KkkkKkKkK

I don't consider myself nor am I a professional artist, this is mostly a hoobie that I enjoy very much and have been doing for long years so first of all it's all practice, practice and more practice. Everything is achieved with hard practice even though it sounds repetitive!

Regarding what programs and tools I use; IbisPaint and my trusty finger. I draw with my cell phone and I have always used Ibis because I think it is one of the most comfortable programs to make art, very easy to use and learn to master especially with the little instructions it gives you. My brushes are the default, crayon type brushes, only with some configurations. My canvas size is always 2550x2550 (the limit so it doesn't go slow, lol), I make all the drawings, move them to the same folder and then I move that folder to the center of the canvas so it looks like it does in my videos.

For animating, I'm just getting back into it since I haven't animated for many years but what I do is to take a reference video (in my athf video it was a jjk scene, now what I do is to record myself to have better and accurate references of what I want) and take a capture frame by frame, then I pass each of those frames to Ibis and draw over them! Regarding what app I use for editing, Capcut 乁⁠|⁠ ⁠･⁠ ⁠〰⁠ ⁠･⁠ ⁠|⁠ㄏ

What program do you use for your art??? I don’t have a tablet, well I do but it’s not Apple so I don’t have procreate unfortunately, but I use Krita on my desktop sometimes. Any tips on digital art for beginners? Especially with dealing with what to do with layers, what brushes to use, line art, sketching, sketching side profiles (cause I hate doing side profiles), coloring etc. I’m more traditional but I’m trying to get better at digital. Also I love your The Outsiders art—especially the musical Outsiders art you do. And especially your Curtis Brothers art. The Curtis Brothers make my autism go crazy.

I use Photoshop now but I've used Krita and IbisPaint before! Tbh I don't have many specific tips for drawing in digital, it's all about learning the possibilities of the program and what works the best for your style <3 Try to check all the brushes you have and if none work for you then download some more :D For layers I mostly make different ones for lineart, skin, hair, clothes and background :) It makes working on the drawing easier! Colouring for me is basically searching for references and using the colour palette from them :D

I struggle with side profiles too :'(( I mostly learned how the shape of the forehead, nose and lips look like and I drew it over and over again until I was able to draw it in one stroke :'))
