I'm still enraptured by Donna in this episode. To me, she feels depressed at the start. Mourning a loss she doesn't know of or understand because of her memory loss. Going through the motions. Doing her best. Clearly loves her daughter and everyone else, and will fight for them, but also just kind of checked out. And then it happens. The change. It starts slowing. Her helping unquestioningly. Then the name drop. And then it happens so fast. The Doctor Donna is back, and with her Donna Noble is truly her self again. That fire in her, the gobbiness that always called the Doctor out. The frankly selfish part of her that would have loved having all that money. Enough that it's literally the first thing on her mind when she remembers. She knows who she is again, and she is so utterly reveling in it. Donna Noble and The Doctor are besties because they both share a love of travelling and a hatred of staying still. Before they met, this manifested in Donna's career as a temp and her holidays abroad. Afterwards, it shows in her getting involved during the Adipose Escapade and her joining the Doctor in the TARDIS. And once she's lost her memories? I think it manifested is subtle ways, like the generosity thing. I suspect her trashing that computer with coffee was a subconscious attempt to free herself from a permanent so she could have that kind of transient life she had as a temp. That or I suspect she did it because someone was being transphobic about Rose. And that's just another way I think Donna was different. You just know Donna Noble pre memory loss would have been VERY loud about having a trans daughter. Like so visibly and aggressively supportive of her. But again, she's depressed. She isn't truly herself, and so she's not quite behaving like she normally would. You just know she'd throw hands at anyone who'd hurt her kid. So many parts of this episode were great, but this? This is the part that's going to stick with me.

“I’m not happy anymore Stars”

I don’t know why I blurted it out, I hadn’t seen my friend in over 3 years and the first time I do get to hang out with her I bring down the mood. Star came over to help me unpack my belongings, the mood up until this moment had been much happier than it was when we were packing my room for college back in Oregon. Instead of returning to my ashamed parents, I chose to follow her to Santa Carla after flunking out.

“What do you mean Y/N? You just got here, do you miss college already?” Star comes to lay next to me on my newly assembled bed, and I can feel her gaze on me even though mine hasn’t left the ceiling.

“No, I mean maybe a tiny bit, I just feel lost ya’know? My parents don’t call and when I do speak to them, it’s just some garbage about how I’ve thrown my future away. How I could’ve met a nice girl, had a couple kids, white Pickett fence, blah blah blah. But I don’t want any of that, I’m not happy with growing up stars.” I finally turn my head, meeting her sympathetic eyes as she squeezes my hand, something behind her expression I don’t know how to read. It’s her turn to look towards the ceiling, a deep sigh leaving her as she prepares to speak.

“How badly do you want to stay young Y/N? What would you be willing to do?” I give her a questioning look but Star stays quiet, urging me to answer with a quick squeeze of my hand.

“Well, I guess anything.” “Anything at all Y/N?” “Yeah Stars, anything at all.” She suddenly sits up with a nod of her head, collecting her things and stopping in my bedroom doorway.

“I need to talk to somebody about something, but I’ll see you tomorrow night ok?” I prop myself up on my elbows and try to read her face.

“What? You said you’d help me settle in Star! How important is this conversation?”

“Extremely”

“Well then can we get lunch tomorrow? I want to finish catching up with you.” By now we’ve both started walking through the small rental, making our way to my front porch.

“NO! I mean, sorry I don’t, I don’t like going out in the day anymore, me and my roommates stay up so late we just sleep. But I promise I’ll see you tomorrow night, hopefully with some answers about tonight. Love you Y/N, see you soon.” I’m pulled into a quick hug before she hurries down the steps, not slowing down on the path towards town. Confused, I’m not sure what to say except; “Love you too, travel safe.” I assumed she was to far to hear me but her head nods, and I step back inside, locking the door before continuing to unpack.

knowing I’ll likely remember someone I’d like to put in after I’m done, here we go:

Ginko from Mushishi (aka the guy in my profile pic)

Ginko is a relaxed, somewhat stoic guy who cares about people and nature equally. He uses his knowledge of mushi and nature to try and come to a resolution to conflicts that minimize harm to both parties, whether they be sentient or not. He’s not perfect, and he doesn’t always succeed, but he’s wise and learned (in the ways of intellect and life) and he’s got his life figured out - he’s accepted what he can’t have and finds joy and meaning in what he can. His stories are about accepting limitations, and fostering harmonious relationships with nature and other people. Sometimes things end tragically, sometimes they end happily, sometimes neither. Either way, Ginko is effected but accepting, allowing himself to feel without letting his emotions control him, even when among the unhappy and foolish. In his words: “It’s not your fault. Nor was it the Mushi’s fault. You were both just trying to live. Nobody is guilty. Don’t die. You’ve done nothing wrong”

Guts from Berserk

His story is striking and disturbing, one of the most disturbing and upsetting I’ve ever read, but nevertheless: Guts’ story is about experiencing the worst fucking trauma imaginable, losing everything, having it happen again and again, giving in to your worst part of yourself, getting to the very tip of being your worst possible self and coming this close to giving in completely AND after all that, being called out and being able to take that to heart, acknowledge the ways you’ve been hurting yourself and others, change yourself for the better and become the strong, loving, wise and happy person you deserve to be, and that your loved ones deserve to have in their life. And if that’s not the most fucking beautiful and comforting thing, I don’t know what is. “Your life’s on the line either way. The real question’s whether you wanna risk it for your comrades or be just another pawn.”

Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa from Nausicaa (together b/c they represent similar things to me)

Ecological warriors who fight for a better relationship between humanity and the non human world, and a world unclouded by hate. Love Nausicaa’s journey through the 7 volumes of the manga, as fights depression and despair and develops into the person the world needs her to be. And I love Ashitaka’s unfailing conviction and love against a world which won’t listen to him.

Thorfinn, son of Thors from Vinland Saga

Many ways has a similar journey to Guts, though his involves really powerful depictions of father figures, and he develops a beautiful attitude of (sort of) pacifism and a conviction to settle disputes non violently through conciliatory means (a bit like Ginko in that regard) and establish a peaceful society. His journey of healing and growth is inspiring and he’s the kind of person I want to be. “I want to be... a kinder, gentler person”

Captain Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation

He’s intelligent, he’s wise, he’s composed, he’s flawed. He’s had lost loves and triumphs and accomplishments, he’s made mistakes and learned from them, he’s adventurous and cautious. He’s psychologically complex without much in terms of overarching plot lines. He’s made choices about his priorities and been happy with them. He’s conciliatory but knows when to clap back. He’s the kind of well rounded, developed human being I hope I grow into. Much like Ginko he’s a picture of the kind of confident, capable and happy adult who’s still allowed to be flawed and vulnerable that I want to be like. 

honourable mentions: Rick Blaine (played by Humphrey Bogart) from Casablanca, George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life, Shevek from The Dispossessed, Data from TNG.

TL;DR: mainly men I want to be like. This basically ended up being a list of my fictional role models, lol.

Hey I saw that you're a fellow gobby fan and was just wondering what are your thoughts on him in the new cartoon marvels Spiderman? And do you have any thing in particular you want to see him do in this show? 😃

Ah! I need to catch up a little on that show, I just got done with episode 9. I can’t wait to see Ol Gobby again, I’m really hoping he gets a good design! (Some of the villains are kinda ‘eh’ design wise -coughvulturecough-)

I also see that Harry might be making the armor/glider/bombs for the Goblin, so maybe he starts as him in this show? That’ll be interesting, since Norman may end up taking his sons place OR he takes the designs harry makes and becomes the Goblin himself.

I do like how Norman is portrayed in this show. It makes me wonder if we’re gonna get another “serious” Goblin. I much prefer TSSM’s version simply because he’s fun, actually funny, makes quips and jokes and talks trash. Dudes literally running around dressed like the biggest Halloween display in the city (on that show anyway). It makes more sense for him to be weird and funny(ish) right? But he’s also capable of being serious and creepy and down right horrible. I love me a villain like that.

So in short, I’m thinking there’s gonna be a LOT of confusion with “who’s the real goblin” when that ark finally goes down. And I really hope he’s got sort of a “I’m insane but fun” element to him when he does appear.

I do kinda wanna see another Gobby that can properly break the fourth wall. That’d be hilarious if done right.

Thoughts on Eric Red's idea for a Near Dark sequel? (Mae and Caleb's adult, human, daughter has a run in with "kin" of the Hookers.) ---- Bree: I honestly would be interested in reading the script. I don't think these guys would have kin..same as I agree with you on the transfusion thing..I wish they would have kept to the ending with Sarah realizing she's burning from Homer nipping her.

Top five movies with vampires? ---- Bree: Near Dark, The Lost Boys, Fright Night, Dracula, Abigail.

If YOU were going to pitch a sequel (time machine back to 1987, or else a book/comic/etc) what would you say? ----Bree: To show that the transfusion didn't work...Severen is alive and frothing at the bit to get back at Caleb. As well as possible flashbacks on the gang prior to being turned.

Favorite scene that isn't the bar scene? ---- Bree: Honestly the random scene that shows Sev stealing the car. They didn't have to do a closeup of that man's stunning profile.....but we were blessed with it.

We know (canon) that Mae was turned around 1982, Jesse around the Civil War, and (kiiiiiinda canon?) Severen in Tombstone in the late 19th century. When/where do you think Diamondback and Homer were from? ---- Bree: I kinda stick with the same 30s-50's era for them that Jenette went with for the backstory. Albeit, Kathryn's idea for Homer makes for an interesting backstory as well timeline wise.

Do you think if Caleb got over his selectively applied human moral code that he would have made an okay vampire, eventually? ---- Bree: He has a sense of loyalty it seems. It just would have to be him realizing what side of the bread his butter is on. Boy would need lots of help though lol.

Severen: ace/aro spec, or no? ---- Bree: I HC Sev as being a horny bastard, and if coming across the right person (He's super picky) he would have a mate. Also....we're just seeing a glimpse into their life (a few days?). Doesn't mean he hasn't had nor would've had a relationship. I find it interesting though seeing some takes on him as ace/aro. He's a very interesting character to analyze!

Any scenes that were changed from script to film, or otherwise cut that you wish made it into the movie/were done differently? ---- Bree: WHOOOEY YES! I wish they could have included the scene where Severen almost got smore'd while jumping on the police car in the script. Also add in him singing the little tune. I love what Bill did for handling Severen, so this would have been cool to see his take on those parts!

What would have happened if Loy and Sarah were at literally any other motel that night? ---- Bree: Our sweet chaotic found family may have still been alive..even if for a bit longer. Homer had it bad for Sarah. They prob would have been ok with letting go of Caleb (despite Severen probably griping over getting revenge on the boy).

Aside from her god-awful taste in boys, what's your opinion on Mae? ---- Bree: I feel like she doesn't mind it really. She's kinda neutral towards it a bit (having to feed), etc. But her problem was probably finding a kindred spirit within the gang to make her days (erm nights) seem more fun to spend with. Like yeah she likes the others..but girl just wants some love. And she found it in dumbass Caleb, sadly.

Do you think Severen survived the end of Near Dark and he's probably just chewing on roadkill somewhere until he gets his strength back? I think he's the most likely to have survived; there's so much emphasis on daylight, direct daylight being the only thing that can kill them, that his death seemed...an odd way to go out permanently. Personally, I like to lean on 'they'll all be fine eventually, it just won't be a very fun recovery, plus transfusions don't work like that and Mae and Caleb are still vampires.'

Weirdest song you get stuck in your head? A rotating mix of atrocious pop music; sometimes it's just snippets of whatever I've been listening to recently. Right now I have "Father" by the Misfits stuck in my head.

What is an item you wish would become a fad? Common sense; selfishly I do wish goth would go mainstream again like it did for two minutes in 2014ish, just to make it easier to find dark makeup.

If you had to live in an era, what would you choose? None in the past; I think it'd be fun to visit, but between health concerns and other factors I really wouldn't want to move someplace else. If i HAD to....just like. A couple decades earlier, I guess?

Fav genre of music? Most of what I listen to falls under the rock umbrella.

Fav past time? Writing, reading, I'm bad at it but also like painting. My favorite time-wasting activities outside of my house are wandering art museums and this really nice botanical garden I'm lucky to live near. I don't consider it a time-waster because it's my therapy, but I spend a LOT of time at the National Aquarium too (not exactly local, but not a horrible drive).

Gators or Crocs? like...the animals? Crocodiles are one of my favorite animals, but I love everything crocodilia. I have a bunch of tiny alligators and crocs on my desk at work, and another that lives on top of the radio in my car.

Possums or Armadillos? the latter for the novelty; we have a lot of possums around here so I'm used to seeing them.

Tacos or Burritos? tacos

(whew almost there...Im reaching for Qs) - Best Bill Paxton movie? EVIL. oh man. oh no. Don't make me do this, as I blog on a Near Dark blog, with a word doc for a fanfic open, in my red/white/black flannel shirt, whlie drinking out of my Aliens coffee mug. I'm not making choosing one. My favorite role of his is definitely Severen though.

✨So you’ve taken the test and found out your eating for two. You’d felt a little strange over the past couple weeks, nauseated and a little bloated as well. At first you thought you were sick, but took the test in order to rule out the possibility of it being pregnant.

✨Low and behold you were proven wrong about your sickness theory. You are indeed eating for two, however, now you have to let the boys in on this little revelation.

✨First your gonna have to seat them down somewhere comfortable for all of you, your shared living room is probably gonna be the best spot for this conversation.

✨When you finally get down to telling them the details of what is happening, there are going to be varying reactions, some good and some not so good.

✨Stu is surprisingly enough is going to take this news the best. He might freak out a bit at first, asking what the hell you guys are gonna do and what your plans are. However, once you’ve calmed him down and explained that your keeping the kid and want to raise them all together, he’ll actually be the most excited.

✨He’ll want to buy all the baby furniture, pick out room colours, buy tons of toys, and absurd outfits. He’s obsessed with the idea of dressing the kid up for Halloween in fun toddler outfits, and you have to keep reminding him throughout the beginning stages of your pregnancy that the kid is still a fetus and he needs to slow down.

✨He’s also gonna be obsessively reading pregnancy books and putting up child protection measures around your shared living space to make sure that the little kid is gonna be as safe as possible.

✨Billy on the other hand... He’s a bit more complicated. Not having the most stable home-life and childhood has made him a lot more reluctant to the idea of being a parent. He really wasn’t excited at the idea of having a kid at all. However, he loves you and Stu, and he’ll try his best to be supportive at first.

✨When you begin showing though, Billy’s really gonna start feeling severe anxiety and might even start experiencing panic attacks at the thought of the potential child on the way.

✨Once you start talking to Billy and letting him communicate about how he feels, he’ll probably feel liberated enough to start actually enjoy watching you go through the process of pregnancy.

✨You’ll all work together as a family working on lifting Billy up and reminding him that he isn’t his father or mother, and he can make his own future as a parent separate from his past.

✨Billy is definitely going to be the overprotective partner who will throw hands at anyone who messes with you while your heavily pregnant (there might even be some missing persons coming out of this).

✨Stu will be the one holding your hand and encouraging you during the labour while Billy most likely will be very pale and on the verge of passing out. They will absolutely both cry when they finally get to hold their child. For Billy this is a rare occurrence since he’s not much of a crier.

✨If you go through postpartum depression, they will both be your rocks during this time. They will help out extra with the kid and make sure to take care of you as well, supporting you where you need them to.

✨Billy will probably be the one who wants to dominate the time with the kid, since at this point he’ll be completely enamoured. You’ll have a hard time getting him to leave the kid alone.

✨This is the same with Stu, and they sometimes will argue about who gets to feed and change diapers, even though you can’t imagine who would fight over changing diapers (at least you don’t have to do it as often lol).

✨Overall, the boys will be great parents who will love you and your kid unconditionally 🖤🖤

Hii! May I request a Brahms x reader in which she the reader just cares for Brahms in a non-romantic way? But then someone from here past came to the manor and manage to injure Brahms, reader seeks revenge and is actually scarier than Brahms when angry.

Brahms X AFAB!Reader Who cares for him & Is Overly Protective of him (Platonic Relationship)

Part 2

You and Brahms have been living together for two years now in relative seclusion. In all that time the two of you have become very close. Brahms didn't think he was capable of trusting anyone the way he trusts you after Greta abandoned him. Together you’d become like family, with him seeing your bond like that of siblings, something much more healthy then what he felt for Greta. He’d never had someone who looked at him like real family, not even his parents, who feared Brahms more than they loved him.

He loved that you’d tuck him in at night and kiss his knees when he’d scrape them from running around in the walls (doing wall zoomies???). You’d cook him meals while he’d try his best to help while also sneaking small bites of any sweets you’d make.

“Brahms your going to ruin your dinner,” you’d scold him. He’d merely giggle and dodge your playful smacks for him to get away from the oven.

Tonight it was cold outside and you’d been making some tomato soup from scratch for Brahms while he was lying prone on the sitting room couch staring out one of the large partially frosted windows into the night.

He’d been very sick for the past week with a nasty cold, which had him hacking, coughing and throwing up well into the night. He’d been shivering with the chills running through his frame, just this morning. This caused you to immediately bury him in several blankets on the sofa, only for him to protest that he was overheating. Your usually extremely protective of him under normal circumstances, but when he’s as vulnerable as this it really gets to something deep inside you. 

Caring for him seems to fill a void within you that wasn’t satisfied in early childhood when you were growing up. You were very lonely, your parents ignored you and your older brother found it more fun to torment you than to spend time with you. You could remember the way he’d kick you in the shins, break things and blame it on you, threaten you with the pocket knife he’d gotten for his fourteen birthday, but most of all, you remembered his eyes. Those eyes, glassy and empty behind there grey shine. You try to block those thoughts from your mind and focus on finishing the meal. It’s better not to dwell on the past. Better not to remember the time he pushed you down the stairs and told your parents you’d fell, or the time you’d awoken to find him standing at the end of your bed with a can of gasoline. Better to try and forget the past and leave it buried.

While Brahms is eating you put on some relaxing classical jazz on the record player before seating yourself beside him and picking up the book you'd been reading earlier. It was an old collection of poetry you'd brought with you hitchhiking across the country.

"Read to me?" Brahms asked tentatively, fixing you with an innocent gaze.

"Alright, let's start here then," you flip to another poem and begin to read to him while he takes shaky sips of soup.

Your mind begins to wander again to thoughts of the past, of cold nights sitting in the bed of trucks, trekking your way across the countryside, hoping for something better. The sleepless nights where you'd camp on the side of the highway, far enough away that no strangers would harass you, but close enough to not have to walk far to start hitching again. While the experience of escape was freeing, the loneliness of traveling like this had gotten to you.

By the time you'd made it to the Heelshire mansion you were emotionally beaten and drenched in rain. It was thundering outside and your camping gear had been abandoned when one of the drivers you were hitching with threatened you at knifepoint. You'd jumped from the vehicle and were lucky to only have a few nasty scrapes and no broken bones. At your wits end you'd pounded on the large front door begging to be let in.

Your cries must have melted something in Brahms recently broken heart, because the door suddenly came unlocked and you stumbled in. Though at first you were afraid, soon you came to love the place, and when Brahms finally revealed himself, it was much less strange and terrifying then what you had been running from on those long nights on the road.

Through Brahms you'd finally found the companionship you were looking for. You'd found family in the most unlikely of places.

You look up from reading to see that Brahms had finished his soup and fallen deeply asleep. Most likely in a food coma. You take this chance to tuck him in, and head upstairs to take a shower. It would help you reorient yourself and wash away those bad thoughts of the past.

Outside the wind had started to pick up, whistling through the trees and shaking the dead leaves from their branches. The lights in the mansion are the only thing cutting into the black void of the night. Something moves out there, breaking up the shadows, the sound of footsteps. There is a sound coming out of the woods, at first one might think its the scream of a fox followed by the howl of a wolf, but if you listen carefully you'd be able to tell that there is something more human to it.

You've stepped out of the shower and finished drying yourself off. You take the sleep clothes you've picked out from where you placed them on the toilet and get dressed. Your comfortable and ready to get to sleep. Your eyes feel heavy and you decide to check on Brahms one more time before going to sleep yourself.

As your leaving the bathroom still drying your hair, you hear a strange noise from downstairs. It's the sound of breaking glass, and you sigh heavily. Brahms probably knocked something over waking up. You'd probably left the soup bowl on the coffee table, that's definitely it.

The stairs are cold under your bare feet and you shiver slightly. You can't hear Brahms moving around in the sitting-room and thought perhaps he had gone back to sleep. You reach the landing and peek into the sitting-room to see that in fact Brahms is missing from the couch. Perhaps he's gone to his own bed, you think.

You see the bowl is still on the table, so it can't be what ended up breakin. You briefly debate whether or not to go looking for whatever broke or leaving it until the next day as you bring the bowl into the kitchen to place in the sink.

A cool breeze runs a shiver up your spine, and you turn to see the kitchen door leading outside standing ajar with the window broken. The first reaction you have is confusion, but as it sets in that someone is inside your house besides you and Brahms, the fear takes hold.

"Brahms?" You reach to grab a knife from the knife-block, but don't hear anything from him as you make your way slowly back into the sitting room. Your eyes rove slowly over every inch and corner of the room for anyone lurking. The fear you feel at the possibility of being attacked outways your desire to try calling out again.

You make your way into the front hall and the base of the stairs, looking around to make sure no one is behind you. A creak from the second floor alerts you to a presence above. Your hands are clammy with cold sweat, but you decide to ascend, knife held out in front of you.

You avoid stepping on the creaky steps as you make your way onto the second floor landing. The lights in the hall have been turned off, making the hall a black abyss which you have to squint to make anything out. There is a light switch next to the staircase somewhere. Desperately, you feel along the wall for it while keeping your eyes on the black chasm of the hall in front of you. Your fingers finally run over the light switch and you flick it on. No one is in the hall, giving you a split second to breathe.

✨Dating Brahms is a bit of a rollercoaster, so make sure your strapped in tight and you've read the fineprint of what your signing up for (basically, know what your getting into).

✨He's gonna wanna spend a lot of quality time with you, and a mean a lot of quality time.

✨He'll want to watch you while you cook, clean or anything else your doing, sometimes he'll help if you need it, but most of the time he wants to watch.

✨He also likes the idea of holding your hand so expect a lot of that as well.

✨Brahms also likes when you play with his hair.

✨He has no concept of personal space though so sometimes he'll just be up in your personal space and do something weird like smell your hair.

✨He's not gonna like when you have to leave to get groceries and will throw a tantrum almost every time you have to leave the house.

✨You'll have to take as little time as possible getting food or your gonna have to invest in someone to deliver them, cause the longer your away the more likely your stuff will either get broken or stolen.

✨He won't like it if you've been giving others more attention than him.

✨He wants your undivided attention and will get rid of anyone who gets in the way of you two.

✨He can also hold a pretty mean grudge, so even when you think things are cool, you're probably wrong

✨You've definitely had a argument about your other relationships/friendships more than once.

✨He'll stomp his feet and sometimes throw breakable things on the ground.

✨However, if he's really upset you, Brahms will bring you gifts as a form of apology and give you some space. Eventually he will grudgingly compromise to share time with others.

✨This is the closest you'll ever get to an "I'm sorry."

✨He might even draw you little pictures of the two of you together doing things, like playing in the sun or eating together.

✨At first Michael isn't really going to know what to do with this kind of reaction. Affection is something Michael hasn't really experienced a lot of, so if you hug him randomly he's gonna just stand there or awkwardly try to figure out what to do with his arms.

✨He likes that your touching him, but doesn’t know what to do with himself at first.

✨This goes equally for when you start telling him what a good boyfriend he is. He’ll be flattered but not know what to do with this.

✨Michael is used to being told he’s the bastion of all evil, the boogeyman, not he’s a handsome lil’ man who is the very best boi in the world.

✨He isn’t gonna say much in return, he’s basically mute, but he’ll usually take your hand pull you into an awkward but meaningful hug.

✨Also has attempted to cook for you at one time as a sign of affection and nearly burned the house down, but his heart was in the right place. He wants to be the best boyfriend for you and sometimes that can be a fire hazard.

✨Depending on how close your relationship is, he may or may not let you anywhere near his face to give him kisses. He doesn't like his personal space being violated and sets pretty clear boundaries.

✨However, if your super close and in a deeply loving relationship, there is no way he will feel like your violating his personal space. He'll love when you give him little kisses to express your love.

✨Michael's love language with close partners is definitely physical affection, and once he figures out how to be intimate, he will want to just cuddle with you in his lap and do nothing. Just enjoying each other's company.

✨Gives pretty great shoulder massages, and will do that for you if your feeling stressed and tense. He’s got big hands and he knows how to use them for both murder and being a pretty good masseuse.

✨He’ll want to cuddle under a blanket on the back porch in fall when the leaves start to change so you can watch the kaleidoscope colours of autumn peacefully.
