Andres Salaff Interview
Earlier this year, I had the pleasure to e-interview Andres Salaff, and Iâd like to share that interview with you today! Andres worked on Adventure Time as one of the supervising directors from seasons 6â8, and he has also worked on shows like Regular Show, Big Mouth, Uncle Grandpa, and Close Enough! Read on for fascinating info about how Andres got his start in the biz, what his duties as director were, and what inspired Flame P and Neptrâs rap in âThe Music Holeâ:
What is your âartistic origin storyâ? And how did you come to work on Adventure Time?
Andres Salaff: I was living in Ohio and drawing mini comics for fun. While visiting California, someone saw them and told me about Calarts Character Animation. I visited the school and looked at the student's work. I knew instantly that it was what I wanted to pursue. I love it because it encompasses a lot of my interests. Drawing, acting, writing and storytelling. After graduating from Calarts, I was hired as a storyboard artist on Regular Show and after three years of doing that, I was asked to direct on AT.
As a supervising director, what were your many duties? Was it largely coordination, or were you drawing/boarding alongside the board artists, too?
AS: [The job was mostly about] weigh[ing] in on storyboard pitches and voice records. But mainly, my job was at the storyboard animatic stage. To make sure that everything was working at that stage of the process and to make sure, along with the art director, timers and designers that all of the necessary information was there for the overseas animation studio. It was very collaborative in that I got to work with the different supervisors in seeing it through the pre production phase up until it got shipped overseas.
What was the energy of the crew like?
AS: [There were] a lot of thinkers on the crew. At times even reserved, but their wit would always come out and surprise me.
Did you do much coordinating with the South Korean studios with regard to the animation? Or was that someone elseâs job?
AS: My work was to provide the information necessary to ship. Once it came back, I didn't have a hand in it. Once or twice I did, but that was when Adam Muto, the EP, was on a hiatus.
One thing I'm interested in is the production of the show's miniseries. How did production differ from the 'norm' when it came time to do Stakes?
AS: Stakes was so fun to work on. There wasn't much of a difference on my end from the regular season other than helping to keep an eye on the overarching story and making sure things were tracking. It was so cool seeing the different parts being pitched and coming together. All of the boarders had such a unique voice and style, yet when assembled they somehow blended seamlessly.
One of my favorite episodes has to be "The Music Hole.â How did you come to work on that episode?
AS: Adam Muto had seen a pilot that I had done at the studio called Ridin' With Burgess. There is a lot of rapping in it. He must've liked it because he asked me to board on The Music Hole. The episode centered around a music festival and Flame Princess and Neptr had a rap group.
In a separate interview, Polly Guo waxed poetic about the rap you wrote, so I was wondering if you could speak about where those ideas came from?
AS: As a kid growing up in Ohio, I used to attend a yearly festival called Scribble Jam. I tried to make FP and Neptr's song/Â performance as close to that as I could remember. It was really fun to work on that episode and to collaborate with Polly Guo!
A huge thanks to Andres for answering my questions! As always, here are some useful links:

Remember that chapter of Logan Legacies with the auction in Madripoor ? Here are the panels with the rituals Daken has a monk perform with the remains of his father he has gotten from there. (With a lot of violence and panache.)
It was a nice touch to have another artist pitch in for these moments⊠Iâve seen the originals for these parts on an art sellerâs website â ha, if I were rich !!!â, and I thought Iâd share hereâŠÂ
Elia Bonetti nails it. I love the very quiet atmosphere, the serenity, the intensity Daken lands to this, but this way he has also to stay âa little bit on the outsideâ as if he werenât sure how much he is himself allowed (worthy) to do⊠or just being ambivalent about his feelings regarding Loganâs death, I guessâŠ
Now, raise your hand if you would like a whole series of Daken doing Japanese stuff??? I love the idea of him having âkeptâ something of his time with Akihira and wanting to honor his motherâs heritage tooâŠÂ
Source: DEATH OF WOLVERINE : LOGAN LEGACIES #5 (w) Ray Fawkes (a) Elia Bonetti (for the pics here)
(PS. That was the issue with Dakenâs old flame Kim, tooâŠHa, Kim, heâs such a joy to write!!!)

Rating: Teen (14+) for now
Starting at dawn every day, you, Legolas, and the troop of Elves searched repeatedly for the portal. You threw yourself off of the tree countless times. You laid in the spot for hours. At one point, the Elves had even used some kind of sheet made of leaves and their supernatural strength to fling you up like a trampoline to see if the portal was aboveground.
Nothing happened.
As the days wore on, you grew more and more bitter. Every move felt exhausting, and like there was no use: you couldn't get back to your family.
You couldn't live here. There seemed to be no point of your existence anymore.
Somewhere around sunset of the second day, Blue-Eyes noticed your sudden lack of enthusiasm. "May I ask what troubles you?"
You scoffed. "Why do you care? I'll be dead in about forty-eight hours anyway. What I feel doesn't matter."
"I beg to differ," Legolas took a seat beside you; you scooted a couple of inches away. "You are in our world now, so you will go to our gods for judgement when you die."
You frowned. You'd always been kinda an atheist. "The Valar?"
Legolas nodded. "Yes. The Valar. Your feelings before death will determine whether or not you'll be given a good place among them."
You rolled your eyes. "You're kidding, right? They'll judge me for being pissed off and upset 'cause I can't get back to my own world to see my family, then killed just for breathing on Lord Fabulous's precious trees? They can go fuck themselves."
His face was priceless. If you hadn't been so pissed, you might've laughed. "...Lord... Fabulous? And, while I have my doubts about your recent hand gesturing, I do know that what you just said is most likely vulgar. Have respect for the Valar."
You snorted. "First of all, fabulous means somebody who loves dressing in the best and most well-liked outfits of the time, while also being very uppity and acting like they're God's gift to humanity. Second of all, yeah, that is vulgar, and no I will not take it back. Third, how fucking dare you, sir, to tell me to respect some candy-ass bitches up in the sky who'll judge me for having feelings."
Legolas shook his head. "Alright, ass is a word we do have here, as is candy. I can get the gist of that meaning. I cannot force you to have respect for them, especially when they brought you here."
You glared at him. "Yeah, whatever. Just leave me alone."
Blue-Eyes sighed. "As you wish."
You turned away, scrunching up into yourself against the night chill.
On the edge of night...
All shall fade...
With a huff, you curled up where you were and tried to fall asleep.
**
A beautiful copper dragon sat before you on a mound of gold. "Do you think flattery will keep you alive?"
"N-no..." Said the silhouette of a very small person.
"No indeed," Confirmed the dragon. He began to prowl around. "You seem familiar with my name, but I don't remember smelling your kind before. Who are you, and where do you come from, if I may ask?"
The dream flipped.
You stood between two Elves in silver robes, one of which was Blue-Eyes, looking sullen. "Tell me," Said the other Elf, "Where is Gandalf? For I much desire to speak with him."
Legolas's crystal blue eyes glistened with tears, but he held them back. He'd never seemed like one to cry. "He was taken by both shadow and flame. A balrog of Morgoth."
The dream--no, vision-- changed again.
Before you was an old man in blue-gray robes with a long gray beard and pointed hat, smiling kindly up at what looked like a child. You couldn't turn your head to see. "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins, nor is he ever early. He arrives precisely when he means to."
The visions flashed in your mind quickly now, too fast for you to discern much from them.
"Sauron's forces are massing in the east."
"This is no mere ranger! He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn, heir to the throne of Gondor. You owe him your allegiance."
"Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king."
"I ain't droppin' no eaves, Mister Frodo!"
"I choose a mortal life."
"The beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!"
"He is Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror, the true King under the Mountain."
"You have the gift of foresight. What did you see?"
"Arwen..."
"What did you see?"
"I saw death. Your death."
"But there is also life. You saw my son."
"You have my sword."
"And my bow."
"And my axe!"
"If this is what the council decides, then Gondor will see it is done."
"Things that were... Things that are... And things that have not yet come to pass."
"Did he offer you a bargain?"
"Yes. I refused."
"A bargain was our only hope..."
"Have you forgotten what happened to Dale?"
"I am fire... I am...Death."
~ominous as fuck time skip~
You woke with a start, the dragon's words still echoing in your head. You knew over half of those names, deep in your mind... Sauron, Morgoth, balrog, Thorin, Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf... You knew the voices, too. But you couldn't place any of them.
The Elves were already awake (With the sun as usual.), readying their breakfast of weeds.
You frowned. Why should you be concerned with why this place sounds familiar if you weren't going to be here much longer? You got up, and prepared to search for the portal-- you didn't want any breakfast, especially when it was nothing but dandelion fluff and sparkles.
"You are not breaking your fast?" Blue-Eyes asked you, and at first you thought he was using Elvish slang.
"You mean I'm not eating breakfast?"
"If that is how you say it in your world, yes."
You shrugged. "I'll be dead later anyway. What's the point?"
Legolas sighed. "To keep up your strength to find your way back. What if you arrive back on your world in the middle of the wilderness, like you did here? You will have no supplies, and I doubt you know much about foraging."
You huffed. "You know what? Screw off. I don't want anything to eat, and you can fucking deal with that."
He looked up in exasperation, probably praying to his Valar for you to stop being such a nuisance. "You use that word an awful lot."
"What word?"
"Fuck."
Then you almost busted out laughing, because a fancy pretty sparkly Elf, even if he was deadly, saying a modern cuss word was too funny.
He blinked. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
You snorted, crossing your arms. "Do you even know what the definition of that word is?"
"No." You gestured for him to come closer, then whispered the meaning into his ear. He sprang back wildly with wide eyes and a profoundly disgusted expression. "Dear Valar, I will never repeat a word you say again unless I am sure of what it means!" His eyes widened even further. "Wait... You just told the gods to perform impossible sexual acts on themselves! And the day before you told me to..." He stopped short, appalled.
"Yuh-huh. Just now gettin' that, goldie? For shame upon me." A thought struck you. "Wait, do Elves even have sex like humans? Do you even know what I'm talking about?"
He blushed a little. "Find the portal. Quickly." He awkwardly left, sparing you a quick glance like "wtf."
You grinned maliciously, then went back to your search.
By sundown, nothing was found. You stared down at the patch where you'd originally landed, wishing for all the world that you'd been born normal, with maybe a slight love for fantasy. Why? Why had you wished, for all of your life, that you'd been transported elsewhere? Now you were, but... You didn't have your family. Without them, you couldn't function right. You just couldn't imagine never seeing them again.
The Elves were already leaving, except for Blue-Eyes. He stood by your side for a minute, as if you were both staring at a grave. You might as well have been. "Bury me here, will you? Maybe my family will find my body. And kill me as non-messily as possible, please? Like, an arrow to the heart'll do."
Blue-Eyes stiffly patted your back. You went ramrod straight-- you'd always hated touch contact. "I will pray for you." He followed his comrades, who were already a good ways back to the river, spread out through the forest. You half considered running in the opposite direction, but you'd be dead before you even so much as got to the ridge where the first of the big dogs had attacked you.
You sighed, and forced yourself to move forward; you gasped as your ankle slipped into a rut, and you yanked it out, arms spread wide for balance. You gave the ground the dirtiest look you could muster, which quickly faded to stunned silence. You leaned down, and scraped more of the dried leaves away...
Your breath caught in your throat. "Blue-Eyes!"
Legolas was at your side in a moment. "Did you find it?"
"I don't know!" You stood and gestured to what you'd found. An inscription, in a language you couldn't read. "It was buried under the leaves."
"Can you read it?"
"Obviously not, dumbass. Is it Elvish?"
Blue-Eyes knelt, tilting his head slightly to read it. His hand grazed the writing. "It is a form of old Elvish, used in the time of Gondolin. This has been here for a very, very long time." He gave you a look. "Forgive me, I'd thought you'd written it at first." You thought about smacking him upside the head, but with everybody suddenly around you again and ready to attack, you thought better of it. Legolas turned back to the writing.
After an almost unspeakably long amount of time, you got impatient. "What's it say, dammit?!"
Legolas shook his head slowly. "I am sorry. Truly, I am. If we had seen this earlier..."
"What does it say, Legolas?!"
He stood, and looked you in the eyes, sympathetic. "'The way is shut. There is no going back. The way is shut, until next fiery moonlight.'"
Your face lit up. "R-really?! Then that means all we have to do is wait for a full moon, right?! That's usually what it is! Full moon at midnight for stuff like this, in all the books! Do you think Lord Fabulous could extend my sentence--"
"[Y/N]," It was the first time he'd used your name, and it made you freeze. "The night you arrived, the moon was full. But it was also a Firemoon. It means you cannot return to your world until the next Firemoon."
Your hopes slowly fell, but you were determined not to succumb to the panic that was quickly rising. "H-how much longer till the next one?"
Legolas put a hand on your shoulder, trying to get you to understand.
"Firemoons only happen once every thousand years, [Y/N]." The words were like being hit by a semi going full speed on the highway-- sudden, fatal, and unbelievable. "You cannot go home."
Everything suddenly seemed far away, like you were seeing this from someone else's perspective. Everything went quiet, at least to you. The world seemed to spin. You dropped to your knees, and you were vaguely aware of Blue-Eyes saying, "I am sorry..."
You didn't know what to do. I can't go home... I can't go home...
I can't go home.
Your breaths came in panicked, short bursts. Even if it killed you, you took off running. Maybe if you ran for long enough, you'd wake up from this nightmare. Then you could pretend you were in some fantasy world with your family this time. You expected to be shot in the back, but you heard Blue-Eyes shout an order in Elvish, and instead, about three or four individual Elves followed you. You don't know how long you ran; tears streamed from your cheeks. Your lungs burned. Your legs felt like Jello. You collapsed at one point, and screamed, though you couldn't hear it. You screamed until your throat was raw. You were vaguely aware of a few Elves nearby, but you ignored them.
All shall...
In all the chaos, it wasn't long before you blacked out.
...Fade...
~emo time skip~
When you woke up, it was midmorning. Birds chirped endlessly on, the happiest goddamned creatures in the world. A couple of Elves talked quietly amongst themselves in hushed voices and in Elvish. You were laying on your back, and somebody had covered you up in a blanket. The smell of something good-- not that anything was, at this point--filled the air. It smelled like cinnamon and walnuts, like Christmas.
With a sigh, you cracked your swollen eyes open. Legolas sat cross-legged beside you, checking his bowstring and polishing the wood. He smiled half-heartedly at you. "You are awake."
Obviously. You didn't say anything. You didn't want to talk. Or think. Legolas sighed, placing his bow across his lap. "We must head for the palace. My father will wonder what is keeping us."
Yeah, gotta kill me as quick as possible... Death is better than this, anyway.
Legolas gave the order, and the Elves started to pack up. You laid monotone and still for the length of it, until Blue-Eyes gave you the signal to get up. Then you walked slowly behind them, every step a chore. You'd barely reached the river, and you were exhausted. And still, that damned song was going through your head...
Home is behind...
The world ahead...
All shall fade...
You knew that your dream last night had been connected to this place, whatever it was. Did that mean this song was, too? You were half tempted to ask Blue-Eyes, but you decided you weren't worthy of talking to any of these fantastical fantasy beings, even if they were going to kill you in t-minus some hours.
The company suddenly halted. Blue-Eyes had a hand raised, and all the Elves's weapons had materialized in their hands. Blue-Eyes was quiet, listening...
An eerie howl cut through the trees, chilling you to your bones. Was that one of those big dogs that carried orcs? A horn followed the howl, and all the Elves strung their bows and readied their weapons. "Gundabad yrch!" Legolas proclaimed-- you were going to assume that yrch meant orcs. He went on to give a bunch of other orders, and the Elves took off running; if it were up to you, you'd've stopped running and let the dogs have you for dinner.
But apparently Legolas seen that, and grabbed your upper arm to drag you along beside him. Damn him... The rest of the Elves were suddenly ignoring Blue-Eyes's orders. Half of them went off into the trees in the direction of the horn and howl, and the other half formed a protective circle around him-- and you, coincidentally.
Blue-Eyes barked an order at them which they ignored, but all of you stopped short when you seen what awaited you on the far bank; the way back to the palace.
Six massive wargs, more wolflike than the ones from before, with orcs a hell of a lot uglier than the ones from before sitting atop their backs, with black bows and jagged, haphazard swords. In the direction the other Elves had gone, there was more howling. Shit. If you cared about your survival right now, you'd've been terrified. But you almost enjoyed the thought of death, if it hadn't been so gruesome.
Blue-Eyes scanned the bank. There were more orcs nearby, on foot, and several more wargs. One of the Elves moved faster than you could see, snatching a sleek gold horn on his hip and blowing hard before Legolas could stop him.
The Elf-- it was the one that'd found your hair dye repulsive the other day-- hardly got a note out before an arrow lodged itself in his throat. The note trailed off into a gurgle as blood sprayed from the wound. Droplets splattered onto you, and you recoiled; you'd never seen death. You'd been to a funeral once or twice, but never this. He fell backward, and the river swiftly carried his body away.
Legolas shouted an order, and the Elves readied themselves for battle. But there wouldn't be one just yet, despite the death of that Elf. The lead orc-- a nasty, pale gray orc with swollen eyes and a protruding mouth, tall and thick, his forehead covered in scars-- stepped off of his warg, which was bigger than the rest.
He came about halfway before stopping. "A truce?" One of the Elves asked-- Common was probably hard to speak for orcs, so they resorted to it to keep from being understood. It made sense.
Legolas didn't take his eyes off of the orc, but shook his head. "That is Bolg, spawn of Azog the Defiler. He would not make any truce with us, nor would any other orc. They are beyond reason, and think only of blood and death." Bolg... Azog... Now you really knew these names... But why?
"Albai," The orc snarled; his voice was deep. "Dorzog ajog lum trov!"
"Emme uva!" Legolas cried. "Sin nor yara ana Aran Thranduil!"
Thranduil... You knew that name. But the fact that they were conversing in orcish and Elvish was astounding. One must've came from the other, and you were just going to assume that it was the orcish that came from Elvish.
Bolg's already disgusting face scrunched up into a frown. "Vol lat diig!" The orc raised an arm; you recognized the movement as a signal to fire. The Elves scrambled around wildly yet gracefully to avoid the arrows, but you barely moved; an arrow got you right in the bare part of your upper arm, and another grazed your ear. Still, you didn't move, praying for one to hit you in the head or heart or something. You hardly felt the pain.
As the battle took place around you, you zoned out. You caught glimpses of a bloodied Elven corpse, or a dismembered orc, and of course, blood was everywhere. The river ran red. You just wished it would end...
A grunt nearby brought you out of your trance.
It was Blue-Eyes, being pinned down by a warg's paw on his chest, another on his left arm. He flipped the dagger in his good hand and stabbed it violently into the warg's shoulder. The beast howled in agony, but only pushed down harder; Legolas's eyes widened as he realized the knife was stuck. The warg snarled, and opened its jaws, savoring the taste of fear before it would bite down...
None of this is his fault. He shouldn't have to die.
The warg had dismissed you as unthreatening. One of the Elves lay dead on the rocks nearby, a longblade in her hand as she stared with unseeing eyes to the sky, mouth agape. You snatched the weapon from her already-stiffening grasp. It was heavy. But it was sharp as hell.
In two leaps, you'd reached the warg, which looked to you in confusion, then recognition, with a growl. You brought the sword down, slicing deep into the creature's face. It wailed in an echo of a voice, and released Legolas, pawing at the wound; Legolas whipped his bow out like an OP follower and shot that dog point blank.
You let go of the hilt, stunned. Blue-Eyes inclined his head. "You have my deepest thanks, [Y/N.]. You saved my life."
You just nodded in shock.
Legolas raced back into the battle, leaving you to your own. Another horn blew, this one like the one the Elf that'd been shot first had blown. A barrage of arrows flew from the trees, felling every orc and warg in seconds. Some grazed you, but none touched any of the surviving Elves.
A she-Elf in a dark green tunic, carrying a longbow, loped out of the woods with her comrades. She was beautiful, with red hair so long it went past her waist. "Legolas!" She cried, and he responded in Elvish; again, you couldn't understand what they were saying, and it was really starting to piss you off.
"[Y/N]," Blue-Eyes called to you, and you belatedly looked up. He and the ginger were approaching you sollemnly. "This is Tauriel, Captain of the Guard. She will take you back to the palace and explain what happened here." Ah... Death at last.
"Tauriel," Legolas turned to her; something shone in his eyes. You recognized his spark, but not hers, but the thought quickly left your head when you registered what he was saying. "Tell my father that they saved my life."
"What?" Tauriel looked impressed, and bowed her head to you. "You have my thanks, mellon."
"Perhaps he will spare them from execution in repayment," Legolas pointed out, and Tauriel made an 'o' face.
She bowed respectfully. "I will make sure of it, my prince."
Wut.
Oh, right. Blue-Eye's dad was Lord Fabulous, king of these Elves. Of course that'd make him a prince. Prince Legolas Gr... Of the Wood... Rea... The thought was like an echo. You couldn't catch it.
Legolas nodded to you, and Tauriel lead you away from the carnage of the river battlefield.
~time skip~
"Saving my son does not grant you my utmost favor," Lord Fabulous glared down at you like you were a nasty piece of gum he'd stepped on in flip-flops. "But it does warrant some form of reward. I am sure you wish for your execution to be cancelled?"
On autopilot, you nodded. You didn't want to die, but you didn't want to live. You just wished you'd never have existed in the first place, that way none of this would've happened.
Lord Fabulous Elvenking snorted, like he was hoping you'd just ask for cake before you were beheaded. "Of course. Take them to their cell."
Tauriel wasn't as rough as Legolas, or even any of the guards had been, but she still held you firmly. "Would you like a change of clothes? I could also arrange for a washbasin to be brought to you."
You just nodded. Couldn't you just dissipate? But, if it'd taken nineteen years for this wish to come true, then it'd take another nineteen years for you to disappear. You were an Elf now, so that should pass in one painful blink of an eye...
"I am sorry that you could not find the portal," Tauriel told you as she locked the door to your cell. "I will have the guards bring you something to eat at once."
You laid down on your cot, curled up, and closed your eyes. You heard the guard come and deliver the food, then leave quietly, but you still didn't move. You didn't move when Tauriel brought you clothes and a bucket of water and rags, you didn't move when Blue-Eyes came to thank you again, you didn't move when a rat came and took your cheese. You just laid there, staring and feeling dead on the inside.
You refused to eat or drink for the next few days. You slept, mostly. When you were awake, you were crying silently. You dreamed of your family. You grieved. Your muscles cramped from sleeping in one position for days. Your stomach felt like it was going to eat you alive. Your mouth was as dry as sandpaper. A hollow ache had settled in the core of your torso, between your heart and lungs; a pulsing orb of sadness, regret, and the wish to disappear. A couple of times, you passed out from hunger while laying down. But you were an Elf, so it'd be hard for you to starve.
You kept count of the days by the cycle of guards exchanging meals. Every tray held different things for different mealtimes: fruits and bread for breakfast, cheese and bread for lunch, and a thick vegetable soup for dinner. About nine days went by before anyone came to check on you, and by that point, you were hysterical on the inside. On the outside, you were catatonic.
And you reeked, because you hadn't had a shower in like, awhile.
After two battles.
So you weren't at your best.
"My guards tell me you refuse to sustain yourself." It was Blue-Eyes. "Do you realize how much of an offense that is to his majesty? He allows you to live, and yet you seek death out deliberately."
You said nothing. Hell, your eyes didn't even move. With a sigh, Blue-Eyes moved to your bedside. "Ah, I see you have also refused to bathe..." You didn't crack a smile. Even on the inside, you hardly felt a twinge of amusement. You felt... Empty.
Legolas surprised you by placing a hand on your cheek. "You miss them, don't you?"
Tears welled in your eyes. Dammit stop making me have feels. Ah, but feels you had, my friend, and you started bawling into your pillow. Legolas shushed you, and petted your head and told you it would be alright. You don't know how long you cried, but at one point, Legolas and Tauriel switched places, even though she clearly didn't want to and sucked at emotional talking.
When it was Legolas's turn again, you'd finally gotten to the nearly-finished state of hyperactive wheezing. "How long were you holding that in, I wonder?" You still didn't answer. He gave you a sympathetic smile. "You saved my life. Let me help you save yours. Get up. You will eat, even if I must force it down your throat, and once you're full, you'll bathe. After, I will take you for a tour of Mirkwood. You'll be living here, now... I suppose it's only right you learn how to navigate your homeland."
Finally, it clicked.
"Wh...What did you say...?" Your voice was hoarse from underuse and crying, but it still worked.
Legolas gave you a concerned look, like that much crying might've damaged your hearing. "I said I will take you for a tour of Mirkwood--"
You sat up; too fast, but you sat up. Your sugar dropped. But you had to know. "Mirkwood... Where is that?"
Legolas frowned. "East of the Misty Mountains, west of Erebor, home to the dwarves and the King Under the Mountain. North of Ithilien, Gondor, and northeast to Lothlorien, Ithilien, and Rohan."
Oh fuck.
"Wh-what is this place called? In general? Collectively? Like, the whole continent?"
Legolas seemed to finally realize that you were crazy. "Middle-Earth."
Oh hell.
"Holy shit..."
"What is it?"
You couldn't remember it clearly. Hell, you could hardly remember it at all. But what you did remember finally made sense. Tolkien's fantasy masterpiece that no one can surpass... The Hobbit... Lord of The Rings... The Fellowship... Smaug, Thorin, Bilbo... Aragorn, Arwen... Thranduil, Legolas, Tauriel... Oh gods, Legolas! "I-I... The books... Oh, gods..."
"Mellon...?"
You promptly fell face-first off the bed before any half-assed explanation could be given to poor Golden Boy.
"[Y/N]?!"
...
Home is behind...
The world ahead...
And there are many paths to tread...
Through shadow, to the edge of night...
Until the stars are all alight...
Mist and shadow...
Cloud and shade...
All shall fade...
All shall...
...Fade...

Fear Not! Coronavirus Precautions!
âGrace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and loveâ (2 John 3).
I pray that you are doing well despite the perilous times in which we are living.
I am a first responder with our volunteer fire department. I just wanted to share a few things with you about the caronavirus that were shared with our department.
First of all, Thus saith the Lord, âFear not!â This phrase is found 63 times in the Bible.
âFear not, little flock; for it is your Fatherâs good pleasure to give you the kingdomâ (Luke 12:32).
âTherefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereofâ (Matthew 6:25-34).
âAnd fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hellâ (Matthew 10:28).
âHe that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvationâ (Psalms 91:1-16).
âNo weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORDâ (Isaiah 54:17).
âBut now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon theeâ (Isaiah 43:1, 2).
âFear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousnessâ (Isaiah 41:10).
For a study on trusting the Lord for everything, please read the following article.
The Faith of the Son of God â Jun-Jul 2018
Paul exclaimed, âI live by the faith of the Son of Godâ (Galatians 2:20). Wait a minute, I know we are to ââŠwalk by faith, not by sightâ (2 Corinthians 5:7), but Paul talks about âthe faith ofâ Godâs Son, not his own faith. âŠRead More
Some Precautions
1) Wash your hands often. Hands are the number one carrier of germs and viruses.
2) Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes.
3) Drink lots of water. The caronavirus first attaches in your throat, and cannot survive well in warm temperatures. It can be washed down to the stomach by warm water where it will be killed by your stomach acid. If you have a sore throat gargle with warm salt water, and drink lots of water.
4) Monitor yourself and others with a thermometer, preferably one that does not need to touch the patient.
5) Stay at least six feet away from anyone who has symptoms of caronavirus without protection. Protection will include gloves, mask, eye protection, and a gown. Even with these precautions, limit all contact, and carefully remove and dispose of the protection, then wash your clothes, shower, and change into clean clothes. Spray the bottom of your shoes with a disinfectant like Lysol, before entering your vehicle or house after you have been exposed to coronavirus.
According to the CDC Website here are some things you should watch for.
Watch for symptoms Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.*
Fever
Cough
Shortness of breath
*This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses.
If you develop emergency warning signs for COVID-19 get medical attention immediately. Emergency warning signs include*:
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
New confusion or inability to arouse
Bluish lips or face
*This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.
If you suspect someone to be a carrier of the caronavirus, they will probably not be transported to the hospital unless they have emergency warning signs.
Currently, President Trump is requesting that you avoid gatherings of more than ten people, and avoid unnecessary travel.
I am not giving you everything you need to know about this, so check your trusted news sources for more information.
The best preparation you can make is to draw near to God. âDraw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double mindedâ (James 4:8).
There are a lot of promises of protection in the Bible for us, claim them and believe them for you and your family. If there is known sin in your life, ask God to remove it, then ask Him to reveal more light. Watch and pray is the instruction Jesus gave His disciples before their faith was severely tried.
As students of the Bible we should not be surprised by things like this. There are a lot of potential events behind the scenes that might explain why this is going on right now. The bottom line is, Satan is behind it all.
ââŠWoe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short timeâ (Revelation 12:12).
The final conflict will be over worship. Read Revelation 13. Godâs Ten Commandments are split into two sections, 1-4 deal with worship to God, 5-10 deal with how we treat people. The primary commandments that will be involved in this final conflict revolve around commandments 1 and 4.
On February 18, 1890 there was a Breckenridge Sunday Bill presented to the House of Representatives in the United States. Here is a portion of what this bill entailed.
âBe it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That it shall be unlawful for any person or corporation, or employee of any person or corporation in the District of Columbia, to perform any secular labor or business, or to cause the same to be performed by any person in their employment on Sunday, except works of necessity or mercy; nor shall it be lawful for any person or corporation to receive pay for labor or services performed or rendered in violation of this actâŠâ
JO Corliss testified before the house in opposition to this bill saying,
ââŠIn this connection let me say, gentlemen, that the District of Columbia has just the same kind of a Sunday law as that of Ohio. This law of the District of Columbia was in force when this book was issued which I hold in my hand, which was April 1, 1868; and I am told that this law (which I will read) was re-enacted in 1874. I now quote from the law. Section 1 provides that- âIf any person shall DENY THE TRINITY, he shall, for the first offense, be bored through the tongue, and fined twenty pounds; ⊠and for the second offense, the offender being thereof convict as aforesaid, shall be stigmatized by burning on the forehead with the letter B, and fined forty pounds; and for the third offense, the offender being thereof convict as aforesaid, shall suffer death, without the benefit of the clergy.â Section 10 of the same law has this:- âNo person whatever shall do any bodily labor on the Lordâs day, commonly called Sunday âŠâ Now, gentlemen, that law has never been repealed.â (Arguments on the Breckinridge Sunday Bill, by AT Jones, pages 3,13).
Friends, we are living in perilous times. The Lord is coming soon. The final crisis will be over worship, and the two primary aspects that will be brought to law will cause people to violate Godâs Ten Commandment Laws on the true God we worship, and the day on which we worship. How those will be brought to play in forbidding people to buy or sell unless they violate these Laws is yet to be seen. But pay attention, friends, it is coming. Make sure you know who you worship, and worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, and worship Him in part by resting âthe Sabbath day according to the Commandmentâ (Luke 23:56).
Please read these booklets: Godâs Love on Trial, National ID and the Mark of the Beast, and The Mark of the Beast.
Farewell my Brothers and Sisters. God bless you and keep you.
âFor this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amenâ (Ephesians 3:14-21).

Yes, weâre down to the last week of the Contagion Chronicle Kickstarter â and so I know youâll all be sad to know that itâs my last week of coming up with awful pun-ny titles for this blog based on the KS.
(Never fear, in several weeks weâll be starting the Pirates of Pugmire Kickstarter campaign, and you KNOW Iâll have pirate titles for the run on that!)
(Of course, I may just title them âYarrr!1â, âYarrr!2â, and so on.)
But back to The Contagion Chronicle!
Weâre looking to finish strong on Thursday, so this is really the home stretch. Hopefully, at this point, backers are able to tell whether the project is intriguing them based on the text thatâs almost done being released.
And hopefully, folks who are wondering about backing have seen enough from backers posting here and on social media, and the various Actual Play vids that Matthew and James have linked to, to give the project a shot.
Remember, you can back for a mere pittance and get the chance the review the text yourself without being locked in to pledging at the end. Well, at least until it really is the end on Thursday â at that point Kickstarter charges everybody!
Also, by backing at a bit more than a mere pittance, youâll also receive links to the PDFs of the two Stretch Goal projects that have been being built up throughout the course of the Kickstarter when they are finished. More locations and some alternative rules in the one, and guides to crossovers on a more nuts and bolts level in the other.

Mighty Matt McElroy wanted me to thank all of you that made our 20th Anniversary WoD books PDF sale a huge success! Weâre thrilled that so many of you took it as a chance to catch up on some of the WoD20 books you hadnât yet checked out! Thanks!
He also mentioned reminding all you awesome people that we have two sales on physical books going on at Indie Press Revolution: for physical hardback copies of the Pathfinder rules edition of the Scarred Lands Players Guide, and for the Deluxe 20th Anniversary physical books that IPR still have in stock.
Or, if you prefer, Studio2 also has the Scarred Lands Players Guide â Pathfinder edition â physical books on a deep discount sale right now. You can check out the links below in the BLURBS!
Weâll be having some very cool info about the Scarred Lands Creature Collection for 5e coming up in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for that. Iâll say this now, the monster art is looking gorgeous!

Following up on last week, we immediately started using the new Errata Form for the Geist 2e and Trinity Continuum KS backers as Backer PDFs went out to them.
So far, the form seems to be working fantastically, so thanks to all of you who have used it for sending us your feedback on these two projects!
Along with that, itâs our plan to wrap up the situation with the Scion 2e errata this week. Neall is working on a message for our Scion community to go with the fixes and a downloadable errata sheet, and our shipper is supposed to start sending out all the KS packages this week.
Our apologies to everyone concerned, frustrated, maddened, or just confused by this whole thing. We truly appreciate everyoneâs patience in letting us take the time to delve into what happened, and the extent of the number of errata fixes that got âunfixedâ.
Itâs like that warning on airlines to don your oxygen mask before assisting others. We had to end our own confusion before we could explain what happened and how weâre dealing with it. And thatâll come later this week.
Dystopia Rising: Evolution illustration by Marco Gonzales
One other thing I wanted to note, which came out of the Scion errata thing, but has popped up before, is that when Iâm writing this blog, I generally have to bear in mind that for any given situation Iâm trying to address, there are many segments of our community Iâm addressing.
What I mean is that sometimes I will make a point during discussing one thing that is also addressing other concerns that other members of our community have. These are folks that maybe donât feel comfortable voicing their concerns in the dangerous seas of social media, but who have sent me private messages. I need to be responsive to them â but I donât want to âoutâ them.
(And there are also those private messages that rip me a new one, that I also donât share because Iâm not here to get into flame-wars, but which have items in them that arenât true and I donât want to leave unaddressed).
In both those kinds of cases, if you see a series of messages and I respond and seem to veer off to talk about something else thatâs not directly prompted by the thread â this is what is probably on my mind with my answer.
After all, we have a community containing folks of all ages, all kinds of interests, all walks of life, and who may love one, some, or all of our game worlds, and I need to always bear that in mind and try and give everybody the connections they need to explore our:

(purupurupuru) (purupurupuru) (gocha!) (coo!) (coo!)
Happy Monday, minna-san! I hope everyone had a good weekend. As for us, we are bracing for the typhoon thatâs passing by Japan so we are making sure we stay safe and healthy. Hope it wonât last the whole day. However, it wonât stop us announcing our news and all so you know the drill. First off, last weekâs chapter was just confusing and shocking. We first start off seeing Tama enjoying a very good meal in a while. Luffy asks Speed to take her back home so hopefully sheâll have the heart to not tell on them. In the Flower capital, a beastly lady is teaching horrible things about the Kozuki clan, and that they are responsible for the downfall of Wano kingdom, and that Orochi Kurozumi, the current shogun, brought peace to the country. We then move to a money exchange shop where we meet some hustler name Kishiro Inemuri. Robin is on undercover as a geisha to get the intel of Wano kingdom. So she overhears from Kishiro about the deaths of Kozuki clan. He goes saying that the 9 fallen samurai that protected the Kozuki clan will curse anyone at night since they all perished inside the castle 20 years ago believing it was the only way to rid the curse. So Luffy and the others finally made it to the ruins of Oden castle. He sees the graves of Oden, Kinemon, Raizou, Momo, and Kanjuro. He couldnât believe what he saw, and demanded Law to explain the situation. So he says that everyone is in hiding. Then Kinemon appears, but in pain from a case of diarrhea. Could be from the poison water. O-kiku frolics and hugs Kinemon, happy to see him again after a while. Momo also appears and happy to see Luffy and Nami and the others finally showed up. They were at bay lost and looking for him. At the end, they all went inside an old shed to talk in secret, and Kinemon confessed to everyone about an unbelievable truth about them. He says that he, Raizou, Kanjuro, Momo, & O-kiku hail from the past exactly 20 years ago. That there is very confusing. Theyâre from the past, and yet how did they travel from the future? What more secrets does the Kozuki clan have? Guess weâll see this week. Donât miss it! Next, this past weekendâs episode is turning more violent. Luffy is hanging on as much as he can to defeat Katakuri, and yet heâs getting more aggravated by Luffy dodging his blows. Both fighters are feeling the frustration. Meanwhile, back at the castle, MontâDor is making sure that their plan to rid of the gang goes swell with the help of their critter hiding underwater. We then see Capone fending off Custard, the 6th daughter, and he sure is keeping them away with his strong ship. At the end, Katakuri unleashes his awakening to finish Luffy by suffocating him with loads of mochi. Next time, Katakuri attends to his so-called âsnack-ritualâ that no one is allowed to see. Will Luffy free himself? Donât miss it! Now on with the goods. Due to the aftermath typhoon, our friend Tongari-san stayed at home, but he sent us a telegram. So he says that the tower is getting lively with more fun Halloween events. Remember if you visit the tower wearing a cosplay, youâll be given a free sticker of any of the Straw Hats. Also, guests for the Halloween costume contest have been announced. Oct. 13th & 20th, voice actors of Brook and Franky, aka Cho-san and Yao-san, will be judging. Oct.27th, the childrenâs contest, will be judge once again by the lovely voice actress of Nami, Akemi-san.  Bring your âAâ game! Neat prizes will be given away to runner ups and winners. Next, the tower finally reveals Marcoâs birthday button and acrylic keychain. Cheerful with a pineapple. Totally him. It will be available on Oct.5th. Also, if you buy goods over 3000 yen, youâll be given free birthday poster of Marco and Law. You can only choose one. Moreover, the 5th Log Gallery theme has been revealed. This time, its titled,ïżœïżœâSmile.â Details of released date will be announced later. Next, the cafĂ© also reveals the birthday meals theyâll serve. For Lawâs dish, theyâll serve âWe are the Heart pirates captain hatâ spicy jambalaya omelet.â Itâs wrapped in egg whites with some spices. For Marcoâs dish, theyâll serve his blue flame healing noodles. It has some flower petals with a bit of shred purple cabbage with the Whitebeard jolly roger made from dry seaweed served with some warm soup. If you order either dishes, youâll be given a free birthday card. Scrumptious! Boys! Can the drool! Next, Figurines! New ones! First, this new POP bikini figurine of Jewelry Bonney. It will come with her hat. A bit sensual, but itâs all good. Anyway, Megahobby will take reservation orders this week. Check your local Straw Hat stores to see if they will take reservation as well. She will be released in February. Next, this POP Neo DX figurine of Akainu will be available in March. Website should also have that available I think. Moving on, Megahobby will also be accepting reservations for these special straps of Luffy. Each one is partnered with Law, Sanji, Zoro, Ace, and ASL bros. Reservations start Oct.4th. To purchase, you must have an account so when you reserve it, youâll be instructed to make an account. Next, new straps! This time, kids! It will have Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Ussop, Nami, Hancock, Law, Ace, Sabo, and Shirahoshi. The Straw Hat store will have a special strap of Luffy, Jump Shops will have a special strap of Ace, and Chara Ani website will have special strap of Sabo. They will be released in December. Next, Jump Shops, Straw Hat stores, and the Tower are selling these button set of the Vinsmoke family. Next, another new birthday of Law will be in stock this Saturday. This lovely tote bag. Good for groceries or personal goods. Next, stores are selling these shiny rhinestone jolly roger straps of Luffy, Shanks, and Law. Next, all Straw Hat stores will be selling original goods from the Hello! One Piece exhibition. Theyâll sell shirts, button set, small ticket folders, clear files, and acrylic straps of the gang. Only thing not sold are the mugs. Tokyo Tower also has it in stock. Next, this awesome folder and long towel of various characters are in stock as well. Next, Jump shops will stock these limited ed. goods from the Jump exhibition such as this towel, water bottle, ticket folder, art coasters, mini acrylic stand, pouches, and much more. Next, stores will be selling these OP Waffle cookies of âOur Memories.â It will have special cards of different characters. All colorful and wonderful. Next, China will be holding Hello! One Piece exhibition as well. It will start from Nov.3rd to Jan.15th. It will be held at Shenzen. Iâll leave a link for anyone interested of going. All in Chinese. No English I guess. Moving on, hereâs the new cover of vol.4 of the OP magazine. It will include a wanted poster of Law and will have his novel story as well. It will be in stock on Oct.19th. Next, here is a sneak peek of the new DVD cover of the special episode of Skypiea. If you order this from Amazon, youâll get a free original projection pen. It will be released on Nov.23rd. Last, but not least, it has been announced last week that the lucky group to perform the 21st opening of OP will be long-time idol group, V6. They are known for their songs of Inuyasha such as Change the World & Brand New World. Title of the song is âSuper Powers!â They commented that they are thrilled to be able to provide song of their fave anime. It will premiere this Saturday. POWER UP! Phew! I think we covered everything. Thatâs all we got for now, tune in next week for more news and goods. Boys! Letâs call it quits. Well done.

Hacker Matsu Headcanons
It baffles me that there's very little Hacker Matsus content on here... So allow me to contribute! I might also be a bit biased considering I preordered their merch (like my Hacker!Ichi phone case I got last week that I love dearly). These headcanons got a little out of hand so this post is a tad long.
All Matsus
- In this AU, they're just as likely to not to go out looking for jobs. Not because of laziness, but due to being awkward shut ins figuratively trapped within their computer screens. They still go out into the city for errands sometimes.
- Each of the brothers have their own desktop that they decorate according to their tastes. It's rather easy to tell whose setup is whose from a glance.
- Prone to being forgetful about basic needs such as eating. Hey, we've all been there, right? They're lucky to have a caring mother to remind them every now and then. She even installed alarms with helpful messages that are often... shut off and forgotten, as is tradition with anyone who uses them.
- True to their nature as computer enthusiasts, they would much rather rely on powerful hardware they can mod at any time over flimsy laptops that are catered for people who seek convenience rather than strong performance.
- ...That's what they want you to believe, but sometimes when you need some well deserved "privacy", a laptop gets the job done. Moving a tower along with your screen to another room is more trouble than it's worth.
OSMT
- Probably the least interested in learning how to hack but what he does know, he does extremely well. He's not very serious about it. The potential is there though.
- Refuses to pay for quality porn and has a whole database dedicated to falsified information such as credit card accounts, emails, and physical addresses. Uses these for online shopping as well.
- Oso's desktop is the sloppiest. Mountains of beer cans, empty chip bags, candy wrappers are piled on top with reckless abandon. The only thing that's clearly visible is a small calendar with women in various styles of lingerie. Todomatsu doesn't understand the need for it - the date's already there on the bottom right!
- Several attempts were made to date people online using matchup sites but his overall writing ability and photoshopped pictures were never well received. Naturally, he keeps getting banned over and over. This is the main cause for his numerous email accounts.
- Knows every single one of his brother's passwords and can bypass their security protocols. He leaves them surprises that range from replacing their wallpapers to embarrassing candid pictures or jumpscare videos when clicking a certain file.
KRMT
- Relishes in customizing his equipment. There are glowing, sparkling lights emanating from his tower that serve no purpose whatsoever. His keyboard is covered with a tacky blue flame skin that he likes to pretend is caused by his "fingers being so fast that it leaves a blazing trail".
- At one point, when you opened the CD drive, it used to play a random sound file of his own voice. Jyushimatsu broke it once from having it open continuously by button mashing. It was fixed by a begrudging Ichi who unceremoniously replaced it with an out of tune rendition of Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders.
- Likes to create his own viruses in hopes of becoming famous on the internet. They've all failed except for one: malware that causes one's computer to just display Karamatsu's face on your screen, with the option to buy one of his painful shirts. Buying does nothing to get rid of it.
- Kara owns illegally downloaded synthesizer programs. Has an extensive library of remixed music and original content.
CRMT
- Out of all the brothers, this is one hacker you should not mess with. He has every single tool imaginable at his disposal and his knowledge of them is unparalleled.
- However, Choromatsu dreams of being hired as a proud white hat hacker one day and to be recognized by a bigwig company.
- Unfortunately, he spends most of his days cheating in his favourite MMOs. He loves exploiting in game currency and dominating level rankings. Not averse to hate messages from fellow players. Lucky for Choro, he can just delete their accounts if they get on his last nerve.
- His desktop is plain but clean. It's the largest in the room, to compensate for his two high definition monitors surrounded with idol merchandise steadily amassing around them. There are countless books stacked next to his chair.
- The third brother's rival is his eldest brother, who chastises him for not taking consideration in his hacking because he secretly admires his hidden expertise.
ICMT
- Similar to Osomatsu, he only joined their destructive antics to fit in and doesn't care much about the hobby.
- More of a traditional user that surfs incognito on the web. He's good at hiding his tracks.
- Uses his hacking to target individuals and organizations that are not above endorsing animal cruelty for their selfish gains. If Ichimatsu has his eyes on you, be prepared for a life of absolute hell. He is merciless in his methods. Good luck shaking him off. You probaby will never see the end of your nightmare.
- Quite talented with a tablet and uploads his work to dedicated art websites. Never interacts with his fans but appreciates their feedback.
- Always has a cat on his lap. Or several. They love stepping all over his keyboard, shutting his computer down, and knocking off his knick knacks onto the floor in an effort to win his undivided attention. He'll usually give up and lay on the floor with his feline friends.
- The sextuplets have designated him as their personal resident computer technician because he knows his way around their parts along with their individual functions. Makes his repairs on Karamatsu's exceptionally faulty on purpose.
JSMT
- Loves playing FPS games and anything that can be modded for his own amusement. The master at finding game breaking bugs. Quite a few well known game developers have approached him for testing that he simply does for free. It's not as if he finds bugs on purpose!
- Most likely to burst out laughing by himself at a funny meme or video. He'll instantly message his brothers on Skype to send them the links even if they're two feet away.
- Big screen for watching the good ol' baseball game. The size makes his eyes cross-eyed.
- Hijacked a news site with Ichimatsu's help to make his own article detailing the cuteness of harp seals and the importance of wild animal conservation in Japan. There's an abundant use of caps lock and exclamation points.
- Jyushi doesn't spend his days inside the house as much as the rest do. Staying fit is still a crucial aspect of his life. If he wasn't so bent on becoming a baseball player, his brothers would most likely never see the light of day - he forcefully drags them outside for fresh air when he thinks they need it.
- Loves spinning on his computer chair.
TDMT
- It's not hard to imagine Totty as anything but a social media expert. He is on every popular website available, his cute and sly face everywhere you look.
- Blogs about multiple subjects to expand his horizons. His favourite is his photography blog that is updated on a daily basis. He specializes in countryside landscapes and food pictures. Of course, his selfies make their way on there too...
- Has the means to destroy your hard earned online reputation should you think of crossing him. Stay on his good side and he might let it slide. Emphasis on the word might. He's capable of tapping into your cellphone to edit information, including abuse of paid services to rack up your bills to dizzying numbers.
- A part-time graphic designer who created the Matsuno Brothers Cyber Hacking Project logo and its overall aesthetic. It's thanks to Todomatsu that they all have stylish sweaters to show off.
- The second most secretive of his hacker identity next to Ichi. His reasons differ in that he hides it to protect his social standing within his circle of real life acquaintances.

David Bowie - The Next Day (2013)
The Next Day was written, recorded and mixed in secret - an idea Bowie had tossed around for some time and apparently attempted at one point - but was completely successful here. Nothing leaked, and when word about the album hit, it was big news in the music world.
The Next Day opening track of the same name is a tight, deceptively nasty bit of gut punch rock where Bowie affects a variety of vocal timbres from withering angry old dude, to Tin Machine guttural gruff, to almost punk-rock nasal crescendos. As you listen, you realize that gut-punch was just an appetizer for the lyrical uppercut about to break your jaw. This track and accompanying video is without question one of dbâs most controversial and provocative works. Itâs seriously dark, and the more you dig into the symbolism in the video and the biting lyrics, the blows, especially towards the Catholic Church, become collectively devastating. Within two hours of the videoâs release YouTube yanked it, and quickly former Archbishops, Catholic League websites, and a whole cast of characters assembled to safeguard the churchâs media image and went into full Bowie attack mode. What was wild to me about the whole uproar was how naturally the actual content of the song and video was totally ignored and instead they attacked âbisexualityâ and his age âheâs a has-beenâ âdesperateâ âsenior citizenâ - things of that silly nature. Once again db had hit the target hard, with depth and history and clarity and undeniable skill - and they had nothing to return but personal attacks and pompous irrelevant declarations. I remember marveling at the time how Bowie seemed bulletproof, but as the whole thing flamed out pretty quickly, I realized that it wasnât so much that he was bulletproof, but that he was just *right* - and thatâs a very solid foundation to launch art that challenges people.
Dirty Boys is such a wild contrast to what weâve just heard. It strikes me like The London Boysâ evil twin. Steve Elsonâs baritone sax is amazing, as is Earl Slickâs completely sleaze-ball 50âs stripper guitar work. Fantastic. Packed with obscure references that will continue to be a theme of this entire record.
With The Stars Are Out Tonight db taps into his Dylan side with his melodic choices and timbre and puts out a db classic. Iâve always been drawn to songs where Bowie limits his melodic range - it feels like he does this to elevate the lyric - but perhaps itâs unconscious, or just something that strikes me personally. Whatever it is, itâs effective. I believe this track was the second single from the record, and cranking this one up in the car in sunny California, super hyped that a new Bowie record is on the horizon, is a great memory for me. This track contains a lyric sequence that hit hard for some reason and Iâve never forgotten it since I first heard the track:
âHere they are upon the stairs
Sexless and unaroused
They are stars, theyâre dying for you
But I hope they live foreverâ
Love Is Lost is immediately arresting with that defiant organ and that unmissable drum sound that zooms me right back to Low. Itâs not the same effect, but Tony Visconti might as well sign it. Bowie is credited as the sole keyboard player on this track, and this performance of his is like some sort of mad church woman who just found out her husband was cheating with the church secretary right before she had to take her seat on the organ bench and is damn well going to let you know sheâs pissed off (oh what have you done. Oh what have you done.) Itâs not flowery or grand; just this shy of shrill, but not. Itâs just enough to let you know something is wrong here. Itâs a unique decision and performance from db and coupled with that particular in-your-face drum sound, just rivets me to my chair. Gail Ann growls her bass underneath it all too like a staggering phantom, drunk and lurching, and that sax punching through has a simple sass about it that just sells the entire vibe. Check out those amazing background vocals that show up like spectres toward the back end of the track. Wow.
Like many of you, I distinctly remember when Where Are We Now? hit the airwaves. I was perfectly comfortable with what I saw as a happily retired David Bowie the morning I got a call from a friend while I was getting ready for work. She hadnât yet heard the song, but gave me the âOMG have you heard whatâs coming today?â call and the radio station that had announced the time they were going to play it - right at the time I would be heading down the I-10 freeway on my way to work. Cool!
Itâs effect on me was profound, I think for a number of reasons, some of which I probably couldnât articulate well. But firstly, it just was not at all what I expected. I mean, I canât even tell you exactly what I *was* expecting, but not that.
And I think thatâs probably why it struck so hard, right in the chest. It was just a magnificently thrown curve ball for a âsingleâ to hear on the radio. So absolutely and categorically different from anything on the radio at that time, and it just felt like the world stopped for a second as he served up something to really *listen* to. It cut through the popsoup of the radio, the noise of traffic, the noise in my head and heart.
So many obviously personal references that it felt truly left-field; like something only he could make work. And then of course the song itself. Bowie again allowing his pitch to just gently waiver with humanity and the weight of time and experience that earns you the pass not to fret too much over precision - only to then reach and connect so solidly on a note⊠a word⊠so absolutely perfectly that itâs completely at odds with how effortless it actually sounds. Just remarkable. It was part of a string of many musical moments in my life that shake me by the shoulders and remind me how much I love this art form. Bowieâs authorship of so many of those moments is why I hold him in such high esteem. Itâs that simple. Listening to this song today is as devastating as anything on Blackstar. Shout out to Tony Levin for the wonderfully tasteful bass part and Henry Hey on piano, who an impressed David asked to be musical director for his Lazarus project some years later.
Valentineâs Day pulled a fake on me, big time. Itâs sunny nature, my penchant for not always paying much attention to lyrics, and simply not immediately grasping that Valentine is the guys name, had me missing the anger and frustration inside this song. Until I saw the video for the track, with Bowieâs gradual fury, and the obvious evisceration of the NRA and the deification of guns and violence in my country, framed around the plague of mass shootings and child death. This video didnât provoke an uproar like the video for The Next Day - probably because itâs just too subtle - the parody of NRA poster boy Charlton âcold dead handsâ Heston, the very subtle bullet flying out of the coiled guitar string, Bowieâs dark attempts to empathize with the protagonist to make a point, db aiming his headless guitar directly at the viewer, that same guitar casting AR-15 shadows on the wall⊠youâd think it would be explosive, especially in America - where you can order up a Happy Meal of âIâm Offendedâ at any corner drive-thru restaurant - but it largely just sailed right on by. Itâs a lot to take in, but at its core, Valentineâs Day is an amazing composition and shows db to be as comfortably subversive as ever. I wonder if Bowie was surprised the track didnât ignite controversy like The Next Day did.
If You Could See Me is a solidly experimental composition that heralds aspects of Sue (In A Season Of Crime) and fucks with time signatures and rhythms in a way not often heard spilling out of DBâs head. Gail Ann Dorsey is lightning hot on the fretless bass - another instrument not often heard on Bowie records - and with her incredible background vocals and unison singing. Typically the bass and drums are mixed as a sort of unifying force - the ârhythm sectionâ as it were - but here there is a disconnect between the very melodic soaring and sliding Gail Ann Dorsey and the backfiring, sputtering and tripping forward diesel truck engine that is Zach Alford. Itâs another example of Tony Viscontiâs skill at the mixing board. The way both instruments are mixed never really lets them âlockâ and you are left with this sort of disembodied forward motion that seems to be simultaneously running ahead, but desperately trying to catch up. Just extraordinary audio engineering.
Bowie is inhabiting another dark character here:
âI will take your lands and all that lays beneath
The dust of cold flowers, prison of dark of ashes
I will slaughter your kind who descend from belief
I am the spirit of greed, a lord of theft
I'll burn all your books and the problems they makeâ
The âif you can see me, I can see youâ lyric strikes me as a prescient nod to the populist authoritarianism gripping the United States right now and surging elsewhere. This move away from actual leadership, compromise and pursuit of the common good, towards the realization that if Iâm in your face and in your feed and in your news constantly and relentlessly, then I have the power and little else matters at that point. Truth, becomes malleable. It becomes a shape-shifter and Bowie seems to instinctively recognize the power of shapeshifting ideas and personas and incorporates them here as heâs done since his earliest days as a songwriter. This is a take-me-or-leave me composition and is endlessly fascinating to me each and every time I hear it.
Iâd Rather Be High, similar to Valentineâs Day, casts the dark shadow of death-dealing teenagers under a veneer of shimmering musical beauty and intricacy. This time focused on the cost of war and the people we employ to actually dole out that death in our stead. Packed with literary and film references as well as nods to other tracks on the album, The Next Day is shaping up to be one of the most musically and lyrically complex of David Bowieâs career.
Boss Of Me is a co-write with guitarist Gerry Leonard and brings back Steve Elsonâs baritone sax heard previously on two A-side tracks, and also Visconti on recorder which makes me smile and think of DBâs earliest work. Tony Levin is particularly badass using his Chapman Stick on this track - his parts are so precise and funky and I love how they let his fingertips sliding over the strings stay up so high in the mix. It gives texture and grit and character to the low end. I also love Steve Elsonâs baritone sax trills. Listen for them! After the granite-heavy lyrics of the first half of the record, this sequence of Boss Of Me/Dancing Out In Space/ eases up off the gas a bit and Iâve read criticism of that, but I think in the context of the whole album itâs a wise move, and sets the stage for the albums final and seriously dark act.
Dancing Out In Space is infused with Iggy Pop and Motown DNA in that drum beat and pedestrian melody - David Tornâs almost bagpipes-like guitar part is the highlight for me. Another happy-on-the-surface Bowie track that lends itself to deeper interpretations if you follow itâs literary references.
How Does The Grass Grow is an interesting track as it has a very hipswinging groove but also dips heavily in his glam past. Again, db is varying up his vocal timbres wildly in one single song; something he didnât do all that often in his early to mid-career but feels freer to do in the latter third. Three distinct and different vocal deliveries - one for verses, one for choruses and one for the gorgeous bridge. Not many singers can pull that off as well as he does. The guitars are excellent here, David Tornâs parts are marvelous. Visconti has stated that Lodger was a blueprint for The Next Day - check out the Boys Keep Swinging nod in the fade. Again we have dark concepts slipped in under a glossy cover - hints of war and death and tragedy.
Set The World On Fire features the hard hitting Sterling Campbell on drums instead of Zach and Tony Visconti on bass and this rhythm section has such a different feel than the Zach/GAD duo. Itâs a nice change-up and has a bit of a 80âs rock Bowie feel about it.
You Feel So Lonely You Could Die is another example of songs that hit me differently now that the man had passed on. It draws heavily from his past, namely Rock and Roll Suicide, and the Five Years quote from the drums at the end says a lot. But this is again a very deceptive track - love song on its shimmery surface, but dive in and find a truly menacing, cold and suffocating environment to explore. Blood, guns, assassins, obsession, sexual jealousy, betrayal and vengeance. âDeath alone shall love you.â Absolutely bleak, absolutely memorable.
Heat is just a mystery of a song. It has the kind of somber majesty that many db album closers have - it feels connected to Bring Me The Disco King only drained completely of even the minutest hint of jazz and improv. Heavy stuff. It still feels impenetrable to me and thatâs ok. Fans of Scott Walker (as Bowie was, big time) will immediately recognize his major influence over so many aspects of this track - especially if you are familiar with his late stage trilogy of Tilt/The Drift/Bish Bosch. Even more than âinfluence,â Iâd go so far as to call it a homage in the best possible sense. Now that dbâs entire output is in the rear view mirror, âHeatâ (like so many Bowie album closers) points like a laser to Blackstar.
The Next Day is such a heavy, confident record, and one of his most lyrically potent. At times disarmingly direct, and other times deliriously mysterious and labyrinthine. One thing I noticed as I was reading interviews about TND and getting some technical specs about itâs creation, was the pretty wide gap between when the music was recorded and when the lyrics/vocals were recorded - in some cases, like a year later. Was db spending that time fleshing out the literary references and refining his message? Was he honing his melodies, shaping the vowels and consonants; letting that help dictate where his lyrics would go? Visconti says that once he was ready to sing onto tape, heâd show up and nail it all down quickly in typical Bowie fashion, and these are some of the most complex lyrics heâd written since his late 60âs early 70âs opuses. The Next Day feels meticulous to me, moreso than usual, and the wide cast of players speaks to a real sense of design and measured execution. These sessions would prove to be fertile as well as The Next Day Extra would soon show, and those extra tracks and extremely well-done remixes gave the impression of an impassioned statesman, unafraid to court controversy and with an overall sense of the Clock, ticking. As far as I know, heâd not yet received his diagnosis, but in retrospect the themes of this record and itâs drive and tensions are nonetheless poignant.

Emerging indie-pop, multi-instrumentalist, Wren Wilder, announces the release of her new single, âEgyptian Cotton,â alongside a music video full of Wrenâs signature playful mix of colour, design, dance, and animation. Aptly named as a nod to Wrenâs Egyptian-American roots, âEgyptian Cottonâ is an ode to the advice she once received from a close friend: âIf youâre the coolest one sitting at a table, youâre at the wrong table.â
âEgyptian Cottonâ was created at the Panoramic House, an architecturally historic house in the middle of Mt. Tamalpais State Park, CA. As an environmentalist and creator of the Wilder Earth Movement, being surrounded by nature was an integral part of the songwriting. Throughout all aspects of production, Wren assembled an all-female cast of creatives to celebrate the effectiveness of working with women in a male-dominated industry. The song was co-produced and engineered by Maryam Qudus of the indie project Spacemoth (Toro y Moi, Tune-Yards, Sasami).Â
As well as Wrenâs own vocal and instrumental talents, âEgyptian Cottonâ features Cody Rhodes (Cold War Kids, The Flaming Lips, Dashboard Confessional) on drums and percussion and Kira (Black Flag) on electric bass. Because Wren is also a re-recording sound mixer at Warner Bros. California, âEgyptian Cottonâ was self-mixed using the creative spirit of her own soundboard. The track was mastered 100% in analogue by two-time GRAMMYÂź Award Winner Andres Mayo (AES).
âShe has a gift of evoking emotions of insecurity while at the same time putting the mind at ease with her calming and gentle voice, paired with a catchy and relatable chorus. I love how she redirects our attention from sadness towards the light and a happier ending.â â Buzz Music
Musical storyteller and producer Wren Wilder create extraordinary moments through warm, empathetic pop music overflowing with emotional complexity. Each original song bursts with inviting instrumental layers that glide through folk, pop, and rock. She uniquely combines various timbres alongside the gravitational pull of her vibrant vocals: airy mellotrons, Wurlitzer, upright and Rhodes pianos, electric guitar, synths, drums, percussion, and electric bass. Through the art of mixing, Wren transforms these commonly used instruments, manipulating them in new and unexpected ways. Sheâs on a mission to write and perform authentic music that chronicles her evolution as a human and an artist and to bring peace and comfort to the delicate teenager who lives inside everyone. Wren Wilder transports listeners on a powerful journey through darkness and light with vulnerable lyrics about transforming heartbreak, longing, fear, and uncertainty into confidence, joy, celebration, and unconditional love.

self-evaluation.
Ideas and Intentions
I have largely continued my thinking and ideas from my previous project in late 2020. In my proposal, I stated that my initial idea going into this body of work was to abstract and rebuild the human form as a method of visceral introspection. All too often we see the inner body as grotesque, so much so that we have become detached from it; we do not see it as âusâ. Initially, I was enamoured with the mouth and female genitalia, as we see these as a âgrey areaâ; we regard it as neither in the inner or outer body, simply a gateway or point of transition.
Through extensively researching Julia Kristevaâs abject Powers of Horror, my sculptures progressed into resembling creatures, which eventually developed into creating a series of them, Body Clips. These creatures are tangible and visceral, we feel connected to them as another âliving beingâ as they spatially jut out towards you, therefore bringing an uncanny animation to the surreal.
In this project, I exhibited in four exhibitions: Street View I, our Arts Festival, Woodlane Windows and a pop-up exhibition at Portland Gardens. All these exhibitions were vital for me to gain experience in curation, however my main goal now is to exhibit at an established gallery, which would garner a wider reach of people beyond the university.
One of my main goals for next project is to hone in on my ideas. I felt that my attention was spread very thinly this term due to a greater focus on exhibiting and the Arts Festival, meaning that there wasnât a great attention to ideas and intentions within my work. This will come about through a greater focus on my work, and wider reading material.
Forms and Materials
I started using metal in my pieces in late 2020, and this love for the medium carried on into 2021. Unfortunately, the workshops closed in January, which made using metal (particularly welding) in my pieces very difficult. This made me transition into using line through sketching and drawing to manifest my ideas.
However, this quickly changed as the workshops re-opened. My work since then has largely been sculptural as it concentrates around the human body. The 3-dimensional nature of my work allows the viewer to spatially interact with my pieces as a form of involuntary bodily reflection.
I have recently transitioned to using TIG welding as opposed to MIG in the metal workshop. TIG welding allows you to melt metal with an electrical flame, and potentially texturise your piece. We can see in Spider, that the melted welding techniques produce ârottingâ visuals. To add to this, the high temperature of the TIG welder produces warm discolouration, which turn the hue of the once cold metal into something more bodily.
I also chose to work with metal because although it appears inorganic and unnatural at the surface, metal originates from ores which are innately biological. I thought that using an organic material (both literally and visually) was important when representing the human body, especially when they are in the form of creatures. This is because creates an initial material connection with our body, and the creatureâs.
Imagination and Creativity
One of the biggest risks in this project was relying heavily on the workshops. As there was always the possibility of them being shut down again due to another lockdown, but also relying fully on the workshops for the entirely of my practice presents certain limitations beyond university. When I graduate, how will I be able to keep creating work if I do not have access to a welder? Although there were some less successful experiments, I believe that I branched out my work this term by using other forms and materials such as monotypes. Although these were not 3-dimensional, I felt that these created a feeling of the abject and the surreal through textured ink prints and accidental âwhite noiseâ. Despite this, I still reverted back to welding when I could - This is something worth noting throughout next year as I plan my career behind graduating.
As with every sculpture, there is always the risk of the piece not being fully represented online or in a photo. Therefore, I feel that stagnant photography does not work in this situation. I took a risk by photographing my pieces in a somewhat abstract manner, making them pieces in themselves. Rather than representing the sculptures formally in a photo, I ended up abstracting many of the photos of my sculptures that I took. This was because I wanted to maintain their creaturely nature by âpeekingâ out from the corner of your eye, a quiet and subversive shock to anyone that glances over. Here, I would say that I represented the sculptures truthfully, however not exactly as someone may see it in the flesh.
Critical Reflection and Evaluation
I would say that the majority of my work was made for exhibition, as these are now live on my portfolio website. As laid out in my proposal, this was one of my main goals in 2021; I can now continue to update this website throughout my artistic career as my main means of displaying my work. Despite also using Instagram, I have found that a website is much more suitable for showcasing my practice; they are more customisable and can provide the viewer with more information about yourself. However, I will keep using Instagram because of its connectivity features. I can connect with other artists and creatives, opening up more opportunities in the process.
As I make more work for exhibition, I have found myself straying further from my ideas. I end up focusing more on the appearance of the piece rather than critically evaluating my thought process and research. I believe that this is both a positive and negative thing. On one hand, the appearance of my work led to the creation of a series, Body clips. On the other hand, I felt that my work did not process the way I wanted to in this project. I believe that this was because of my heightened focus on professional practice, with subsequently less focus on in-depth research to aid the exploration of my ideas.
Moving forward, I must learn to adapt to the fast-paced nature of maintaining an art career, as I will not always have the time to be piece-centric. Whether this will be collaborating with strangers, or simply producing more work capable of exhibition. Overall, I will have to learn how to balance working and exhibiting as they co-exist.
Personal Development and Professional Studies
For planning for the arts festival, I nominated myself for being one of the two group leaders; I wanted to gain experience with working and collaborating with people that Iâm not familiar with. Through being a co-leader, I also had the opportunity to join the Hub Team where I managed curation and the overall look of the festival within another sub-group. Within my group, Unlocked, I not only contributed to planning but also the creation of the teaser trailers as well as being in the performance which served as the finale to the festival.
One specific thing that I learnt however, is the importance of tigger warnings and using other people in personal or group pieces. We neglected the importance of these and as a result, an incident occurred which resulted in my co-leader and I drafting an apology which would be emailed to the public. I would say that this is a major professional development as this makes me take the audience into account in the future. I have always thought of artwork as more of a display rather than an interaction, whether this be online or in the flesh. Due to this, I have become much more aware how the audience are affected by artwork, I also became much more aware about how they become incorporated within the piece itself.
Furthermore, using this leadership experience from the arts festival, I co-curated a pop-up exhibition with fellow artist Emilija PliaukĆĄtaitÄ in June. Using my knowledge from the arts festival, we implemented these skills into the real world. I think that this is a prime example of how I have developed professionally using skills obtained through the university.
Aside from the arts festival, I also developed professionally in my practice beyond my studies. As mentioned above, I completed one of my main goals this term, creating a website to exhibit my work. I originally wanted to use this as a portfolio, however as times goes on I want to hold mini exhibitions online.
I feel that I have developed professionally this term, albeit in smaller ways. I want to build on these skills that I have started to learn this term and translate them for use in my future art career.

I try to keep up with the times.
We befriend people on the net non stop and most of the time it stays a contact on the book of beautiful Faces in the form of pix, likes and invitations for performance and art events.
Cool.
You sends me a message and thanks me for accepting.
Nice.
I like that.
Nothing wrong with making the contact a bit more 'real'.
You asks me where I live.
It is written in my profile but okay who reads nowadays so there it is: Montreal.
And you? I ask.
Berlin.
Oh Berlin, I feel fluttering flames, I will go to Berlin this summer, well if the pandemic allows me, that is.
It is 2021 remember?
Let's meet then, let's work together You writes to me.
Oh wonderful, how generous, I think.
I love that.
A possible collaboration in my beloved Berlin.
Cool.
I see some of You's work on the timeline , mostly a drum explosive performance with a blonde dancer, she looks like an angel.
I ask You to send me some examples of his music.
You now sends me stuff from three years ago.
That is okay.
Like we all got stuck in the Pandemic a bit.
2020 was a weird year for creating.
Anyway.
I am happy to learn more about Youâs art.
I listen:
free jazz, which sounds kind of okay and I find some experimental tracks
( I like that, it opens possibilities in my imagination of possible collaboration projects, nice)
and a most beautiful collaboration with a pianist, lovely work.
I see on You's time line that You collaborates on a daily basis in open air street performances.
On a bridge in Berlin.
Playful stuff.
Wild and fresh.
With that same beautiful woman at You's side, she is dancing in vintage costumes while You drums.
Sometimes it is a performance with You and two women, the blonde angel and an Asian princess.
Nice.
How promising.
A promise in 2021.
Bless the net!
I send You my website and a song.
Oh, I love to sing.
Then I start to wonder if this could be possible.
You being active in music, I could sing and perform, maybe we can work something out this summer and prep already before hand.
By now we communicate on messenger, email, Whatss- app.
Good heavens...it is really 2021.
Dreams about Berlin summer-jams with You and who knows, the wonderful women!
They seem such fun too.
I know I am dreaming.
You likes the work.
Nice.
You likes the song he writes.
Cool.
Then the love-bombing starts.
Very 2021.
But I am naive and do not recognize it.
Did not know the expression.
Love-bombing.
Not yet.
I only feel that I am overwhelmed more and more, after each message of You on the different platforms we use.
Drugged bit by bit.
Message after message, with compliments, with warmth, oh so much needed in these isolated times.
2021, remember, the year 'it' is not over yet.
So I am flattered, off course.
Good heavens, what a friendly and special man You is.
Nice.
It feels like You is really interested for us to get to know each other.
Amazing feeling that this is possible through the net.
Bless the net!
In spite of the Pandemic, I can start to develop a new friendship, a future collaboration.
Cool.
Bless this time!
2021, everything is closing down but not the net!
When You is texting me that he is falling in love after hardly four days, I have to write to You about my feelings.
It feels nice, off course.
I look forward to his messages every day, oh yes.
Yes You, I feel the pull as well.
And man isn't it seductive...
To say: yes yes yes, You  me too too too...
An old gap that wants to be filled, a very old gap from long time ago.
I have to warn you my new Facebook Friend.
I am slowing down when I feel I am moved into a pull like this.
I hardly know you, neither do you know me.
Even though it is 2021, I need to slow down, friendship first.
It feels a bit scary to communicate all this.
I do not like it to feel that I am old, old fashioned, but I have to honor my feeling.
What is wrong with doing the slow old fashioned pace?
Oh, to take things slowly with elegance and grace and to build connection from there,to enjoy the development of friendship.
I feel that I need to digest it all, all the texting and stickers and a nice picture.
Yes You sends me a picture, a man, in front of a car, with a rose in his hand.
The ultimate Valentine promise.
Is it You?
Could be.
Or not.
I am not sure.
I realize I have no idea what You would look like in real life.
So I scan the net.
2021 galore!
I know now You has tattoos.
What is the story behind them?
What is You's story?
I feel very old all of a sudden because I realize nowadays we do not share much of ourselves.
This is 2021.
Messages.
Stickers.
Four word lines.
But not much content.
2021.
What to do, what to feel?
I feel hunted.
Fear in my belly.
Heart open though.
I long for friendship first.
Who knows what can develop then.
I am curious and want to know You better.
I write You all this and more.
My age.
And I do expect a silence.
But You writes back to me.
Immediately almost.
Nice.
You writes that he loves the letter.
And yes, he will write more soon.
Bless the net!
You likes the concept of writing letters.
Cool.
You promises to write more about himself and I like to read this off course.
But it does not come through.
You has fantasies, You writes, he has fantasies about me.
You wants to share them.
I wait, I am hoping the fantasies are about play, and art, and joy.
Nothing else happens, except that You keeps asking me for pictures, to send pictures of me.
So I send You two pictures, me in the snow, me in the studio.
You keeps 'bombing' me and I call You in an impulse.
You seems to be off guard.
I love it when people are off guard, myself included.
Off guard is the best.
You seems a real person to me for the first time in our contact.
Realness is the best.
You is telling me real a thing, he is prepping.
Prepping for a school-concert with kids.
For the next day.
Wonderful.
Something real is shared.
I start to feel for You, in this moment of realness.
In this moment of intimacy.
And I love the picture of You and the kids the next day on his timeline.
They explode with joy.
And so do I.
Nice.
Cool.
The messages are slowing down now.
Oh boy, did I communicate to pull away?
I meant slow development in communication.
I wait.
You keeps asking for pictures.
It bothers me.
2021.
It bothers me that within a week this direction, this weirdness crawls into my daily life through all my devices.
I receive only this request again and again: send me pictures.
Sexy ones please.
I do not like this.
No judgement, but it is not what I find seductive, 'sending sexy pictures'.
What is âsexyâ anyways?
2021, a most not sensual time frame.
Yikes.
It seems all very predictable, all of a sudden.
âSexy ones.â
You wants to see what?
Bare breasts, naked ass, a vagina spread open?
It is not exactly what I want or need or long for or fantasize about.
What to write to You now, what does You care about me?
I donât like this You being so 2021.
I thought You was different, but that was my fantasy.
You is a stranger after all.
Very 2021.
Should I ghost You now?
Probably that is how people do it nowadays.
Very 2021.
Should I block You?
It feels cold and heartless this time frame.
Very 2021.
Does You exist?
He does.
Is it wrong to ask for sexy pictures?
No, but do not lead up to romance and promises of collaborations my Facebook Friend, ask it right away.
But it was not lost, this time.
I am grateful You reached out to me. I wish him the best, I do.
I learned a lot, thanks to You!
I now gained more knowledge about how I love to open up towards realness, intimacy and collaboration. I will stay what one calls old fashioned.
Because I do want to keep my dreams alive and therefore I resist 2021âČs rules of communication.
When I will visit Berlin this summer, I know which bridge to see from the other side.
I crossed it.

Episode Review: âSon of Rap Bearâ (S10E03)
Airdate: September 17, 2017
Story by: Adam Muto, Kent Osborne, Jack Pendarvis, Julia Pott
Storyboarded by: Seo Kim & Somvilay Xayaphone
Directed by: Diana Lafyatis (supervising), Sandra Lee (art)
While I love the show and its music to pieces, Adventure Time has always been a mixed bag in terms of its rap numbers. On one hand, you have songs like "Working for the Master" (written by Rebecca Sugar and delightfully performed by Andy Milonakis) that are fun, bouncy, and easy to remember. On the other hand, you have ditties like Finn's rap battle from "Billy's Bucket List" (written by Jesse Moynihan), which is awkward and essentially just a retread of Moynihan's much funnier "Political Rap" from season four.
When I learned that âSon of Rap Bearâ was slated to feature something like seven raps, I was a little leeryâespecially when I learned the episode was storyboarded by Somvilay Xayaphone and Seo Kim, a duo who despite their comedic chops has never proven to be the best at writing songs. But as with all doomsday predictions, my thoughts and worries were misplaced. âSon of Rap Bearâ manages to be funny, touching, and most importantly, musically competent!
In this episode, the wily Toronto tricks Flame Princess into a rap battle, with her kingdom possibly on the line. FP is pretty skilled when it comes to dropping a sick rhyme or two, but her challenger is none other than the legendary Son of Rap Bearâa character who very literally causes stuff around him to explode due to his musical talent.
In order to prep for her upcoming battle, Flame Princess, who is operating under the idea that one needs "life experience" to write truly memorable rap pieces, tries to cram as much as she can in a pithy few days. Along the way, FP visits her father, and becomes rather frustrated that while he is not exactly what youâd call evil, he still cares very little about the daughter who he has emotionally abused for so long.
When the battle arrives, Flame Princess initially chokes during her verse, letting Son of Rap Bear gain the upper hand. But when she notices her father in the crowd, oblivious to her suffering, her anger and frustration build up and power an extremely impressive rap that leads to Son of Rap Bearâs defeat. Toronto tries to rig the whole show by declaring Son of Rap Bear the winner, but it is a useless attempt, and he is trodden on by Flame Princessâs myriad fans.
This episode is a nice meditation on emotional abuse, specifically of the parental type (a topic that Adventure Time touches on time and time again). Flame Princess's father has reformed somewhat, but he still was responsible for locking his daughter in a lantern. He has shown no remorse for his actions, and continues to be oblivious to his daughter's pain. This is bad in and of itself, but it is made worse by the fact that Flame Princess still loves her dad and wants to connect with him in a meaningful way. Just like when Finn yearned to have a meaningful connection to his scumbag father, FP wants her dad to care.
As Oliver Sava of the A.V. Club pointed out, this sort of dynamic is inverted with Son of Rap Bear and his father. Good olâ Sonny cared so little about his father that he willfully blew off his legs by rapping. Whereas Flame Princess uses her pain to fuel her raps, Son of Rap Bear uses his raps to inflict pain. Consequently, itâs rather fitting that Flame Princess is able to defeat him in the end.
Given that the episode is about rappinâ, âSon of Rap Bearâ features a number of guest musicians. Chief among these is Dumbfoundead, who voices the eponymous character with aplomb and swagger. Thanks to his performance, you get the impression that while Son of Rap Bear is business up front, he's got issues deep down that he needs to work out.
Although Finn and Flame Princess briefly talk to Rap Bear proper, he is no longer voiced by Andy Samberg. Iâm not going to lie, this is something of a bummer, given that Samberg has experience with rapping, as he is a part of the comedy troupe The Lonely Island (I'm assuming he just wasn't available, as he did return to voice Party Patâor should I say, Party Splatâin the Elements miniseries). With all this said, Samberg's replacement, Rekstizzy, fills the vacancy nicely.
But the guest that I was most excited to hear was Open Mike Eagle. If you donât know, Open Mike Eagle is a rapper and Adventure Time fan who hosted an AT-themed podcast called Conversation Parade with comedian John Moe. Sadly, it hasnât updated in years, but itâs still a lot of fun to listen to what these two creative geniuses have to say about the show. Open Mike Eagle is also a competent musician (his album Dark Comedy is really worth a listen), and it was quite a treat to witness him breathing musical life into a gingerbread man in this episode. Too bad he lost his candy life to Son of Rap Bearâs explosive talent...
Mushroom War Evidence: The epic rap battle takes place in an abandoned sporting arena, first seen in the third season episode âWizard Battleâ.
Final Grade:
Here everyone! Iâm back! Sorry it took me so long to get this uploaded: a lot of crazy (good!) stuff happened recently in my life, and I have just been swamped. I want to say thank you to all my readers who have stuck with me through this drought. You mean the world to me! On a somewhat unrelated note, I'm still not sure what freakin' season we're on. CN's website says 10, but that just seems ridiculous, since that would mean that season 9 was only something like 14 episodes! I'm going to stick with calling this part of season 9 until we hear otherwise. If we get the official news that we actually are in the midst of a tenth season, I'll update everything accordingly. Iâve decided to go ahead and follow CN.comâs numbering/listing scheme. This means that Iâll consider âThe Wild Huntâ the beginning of season 10. Weird, right?

COVID-19 creativity: Artists paint behind glass at gallery under NYCâs High Line
The High Line Nine, a rectangular building nestled under the High Line in Chelsea that houses nine art galleries, was gearing up for a busy year before the pandemic.
âWe had a full traditional exhibition schedule for the fall,â said High Line Nine manager Christina Maxwell. âWe had a full house with typical art galleries, design and furniture tenants, all of which have been canceled or postponed indefinitely.â
Maxwell, who was promoted to her role in mid-March â right as COVID-19 hit â was determined to find a way to keep the artistic heartbeat of the neighborhood alive and show the resilience of New Yorkers in these uncertain times.
âI think this is a time when everyone needs a little bit of hope that things are just on pause and they are not over forever,â she said. âThe art world has always been a source of connection and a source of aspiring to brighter days and better things. We wanted to find a way to create that.â
The gallery partnered with art advisory firm Sugarlift on a concept that would allow it to highlight artists in an innovative, coronavirus-friendly way.
They came up with the idea of a residency program for New York-based artists that runs from July 1 to Aug. 15.

Sugarlift provided a list of 15 artists that was narrowed down to five: Nicolas V. Sanchez, Vicky Barranguet, Casey Baugh, Luke Baggott and Tony âRubin415â SjoÌman.
In order to bring the exhibition to life, High Line Nine and Sugarlift set each artist up in their own glass-enclosed studio. Art enthusiasts traversing through the gallery would be able to watch the artists work on new projects that speak to the theme of âreimagination.â
Sugarlift, which runs an online art marketplace, suggested the exhibit be elevated beyond a storefront concept by adding QR codes to each gallery. Once scanned via mobile phone, customers are directed to Sugarliftâs website, which provides information on each artist and allows them to purchase their works.

Artwork ranges from $300 to tens of thousands of dollars. Sales have been âunder $10,000â so far, according to Hana Foster, head of advisory at Sugarlift, who noted that the residency is less about selling art than giving artists a chance to garner new contacts and become comfortable selling their art online.
Nonetheless, Foster attributed slow sales to the challenge of selling high-priced art to customers off the street, as well as the fact that the free exhibit is just being discovered.
Foot traffic in the gallery, which runs along 10th Avenue and has an entrance on 27th and 28th streets, has been improving since the High Line reopened to limited guests in mid-July. While the exhibitionâs hours are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, thereâs âsteady flowâ of traffic between noon and 5pm, when most artists are working, High Line Nine said.

As for sales, those have been picking up, too, Foster said, noting that less expensive pieces under $1,000 are âselling like hotcakes.â
Thatâs been true for Nicolas V. Sanchez, a Mexican-American artist whose small, lifelike ballpoint pen portraits have been commissioned by the likes of Brooke Shields, Liev Schrieber and Padma Lakshmi for portraits.
The artist jumped at the chance to do the residency program, after a full schedule of art shows, exhibits and business travel was wiped away by the pandemic.
The artistsâ colorful pieces (including those by Nicolas V. Sanchez, above) range from $300 to tens of thousands of dollars, and are available to buy via QR code.Annie Wermiel/NY Post
âWhen that opportunity is taken away, artists are hit financially and they are not able to connect with art lovers and sell their work,â he said, explaining that High Line Nine gave him a unique opportunity to experiment with his craft.
The gallery set up a photoshoot with Ballet Nepantla, a traditional Mexican dance group, on the roof of the Zaha Hadid building across the street, Sanchez painted the dancers as they performed in watercolor, a new medium for the artist. Sanchez is using the watercolors as inspiration for the 20-foot canvases he is painting in oil during the residency.

For street artist Rubin, whose colorful geometric works can be seen on the sides of buildings in Manhattan, Queens, Jersey City and Washington, D.C., the program has been a lifesaver. The artist lost his studio due to the economic fallout of the pandemic and he had to move his workspace to his three-year-old daughterâs bedroom.

Meanwhile, for Vicky Barranguet, a Uruguayan abstract artist, the residency has reignited her creative flame after months of feeling depressed under quarantine-lockdown in her Harlem apartment.
âIn the beginning I stopped painting,â the artist said, from her High Line Nine sun-flooded studio last week. âThis has been such an amazing push to work.â
Surrounded by several colorful large-scale canvases she painted in the last four weeks, Barranguet is now on a tear and has a surplus of inventory and new contacts.
During the residency her work caught the attention of Brian Brooks, an award-winning choreographer and dancer, who lives in the neighborhood. One day, after hours of watching Barranguet paint, Brooks asked if he could collaborate with her.
He returned the next day with a camera and filmed himself interpreting the strokes of Barranguetâs paintbrush as the artist moved nimbly across the large-scale canvas, wildly applying colors.
The duo posted the performance to their personal Instagram accounts and plan to work together again.
âI loved it,â Barranguet said of the collaboration. âI always had this idea of people dancing in front of my paintings.â
