So I started reading @ohno-the-sun ‘s fic Under the Surface and I literally binge-read all the chapters out so far in one night because it hooked me so fast. And then I couldn’t sleep until I did some fun sketches while my hand still felt alright. So woe, fish boy doodles be upon ye.

Big fan of sun motifs in characters not necessarily being about positivity and happiness and how they're so " bright and warm" but instead being about fucking brutal they are.

Radiant. A FORCE of nature that will turn you to ash. That warmth that burns so hot it feels like ice. Piercing yellow and red and white. A character being a Sun because you cannot challenge a Sun without burning alive or taking everything down with them if victorious.

tearing my hair out thinking about simon proposing to you on a random thursday night.

you two just so happened to grab coffee at the usual cafe which is pricey but they make the best mocha so it’s whatever, before ambling outside to a cozy nook, lit with fairy lights and warmed up by a portable heater. the wind is chilled but not too cold, and it is soft as it caresses your cheeks, and simon breathes in, trying to reel it in but—

you’re telling him about work; about this shitty coworker that almost made you lose all sense of professionalism, and simon is crushed by this overwhelming desire as he listens to you rant. he’s always felt the need before but it was only ever a whisper because simon has always wanted to marry you so he learned to tune it out, rationalizing to himself that it’s still too early. too young. too fragile and raw.

but it’s strange today.

you’re all angry and exhausted to the bone, and the coffees have gone lukewarm, and, hell, he hasn’t even washed his hair yet but simon—

he needs to ask. he needs to tell you.

he needs to—

your voice peters into silence as simon places a small box on the table and slides it towards you.

“what,” you rasp out, still breathless and quiet.

“will you marry me?” simon asks, just as softly. just as tentative and hesitant.

the word yes has never fallen from your lips that quickly.

Something I think about a lot is how Rick Riordan very rarely uses "girlfriend/boyfriend" to refer to Percy and Annabeth within their perspectives. They're so intertwined, even Annabeth says in hoh that the word boyfriend isn't strong enough, because Percy was a part of her. They are a singular soul, too wrapped around each others' fates that regular labels are far too weak for them. But, Rick Riordan uses "boyfriend" a lot in Nico and Wills perspectives, not because they love each other less than percabeth, but to show how much the word means to them. Nico uses it any chance he gets- "his boyfriend," "he actually had a boyfriend," because Nico has never been able to say that before. Their struggle with their queer identities mixed with Nico's catholic guilt and chronic everyone-hates-me disease makes the fact that he has someone to call his actual boyfriend so much more important to his character development.

i'm one hundred percent certain that after percy and annabeth made out underwater. and he wanted to make their relationship official. the question was not "will you be my girlfriend?" but "can i be your boyfriend?" i don't care what the canon says. percy gave annabeth the space to take the lead in the relationship. because after a lifetime of being abandoned by everyone she dared to care for. and then watching her on the brink of a panic attack at the thought of losing him the last four years. he wanted to honor a new beginning between them by follow her lead and moving at her pace.
