Something about the winners in previous seasons being determined to help their allies become the winners. Scott in Double Life for Pearl and Pearl in Secret Life for Scar. They never really fought hard in the final battle with the intention to win again, they just wanted to see those close to them succeed.
But not Grian. Grian, who had lost his allies. Who had nothing left to protect. So he made it his goal to win, as if he hadn’t already, and as if it wasn’t an unwritten rule that one could never win twice.
Sure, he was close to Joel enough to ally with him, but he was determined to at least win, at least, that’s how he made it appear to others.
Because Joel was the closest thing he could get to having Mumbo and Skizz back as his teammates, and obviously, they weren’t about to win. So he didn’t target Joel while he was fighting, but instead focused on the others, taking out Pearl and letting Joel take out Ren and Cleo.
Grian had to make himself seem like the selfish winner who was out to gain another victory, to make it entertaining? To make himself feel better? To help Joel feel like he wasn’t making it easy for him?
His approach as a winner to become a 2nd time victor is so,,, to me. He’s desperate and he needs to win, but he knows he won’t, but he still made it to the top 2, and in a way, that was enough for him.
I just love when previous winners are part of the final 2 alive. It feels like they are there to bestow a crown on the next winner, to congratulate them on their victory, or to warn them of the guilt they needed to bear next, the pressure of the memories.
(Not that I intend to minimise the effort that the new winners put in, but to say it was a crazy coincidence to have the previous victors there for just a wing-it-and-have-fun series.)

i just really love the in depth analysis this fandom does. it puts everyone else to shame, seriously. sure, things go a little too far sometimes and we overanalyse things that were definitely not intended to be deep/canon at all. but what i really like about that is, ultimately, this is all minecraft roleplay. all of the current lore began because we read too deeply into the silly block game comedic bits. this fandom exemplifies imagination, it really shows you what things could be if you take the time to think about the story beyond how it seems on the surface. i think that’s truly beautiful. it’s how we have all of these amazing fan creations - people looking at the potential that a block game roleplay has, and turning that potential into reality. i think that it came about because of the uniqueness of a minecraft series allowing us to see multiple POVs in depth, and that affects everyone’s perspectives on every character. it’s fascinating, and i love that it’s leaking into other SMP fanbases like 3rd life now. the mcyt fandom’s imagination is truly a force to be reckoned with.
because of all the awful shit that's been going on in the fandom today, i wanted to change it up a little bit and talk about some of the things about it that i really like
- i've mentioned it before, but it's one of the kindest fandoms ive seen when it comes to typically 'cringey' stuff. we're all just hanging out doing whatever makes us happy, i adore it
- i can't not mention the amazing artists and writers. like holy cow, all of you do such gorgeous work, it's amazing
- while the apologist stuff can get out of hand sometimes, i really enjoy the more lighthearted debates that it can bring, they're very fun and respectful i love em
- the majority of people are very respectful of creators' boundaries. of course there are exceptions, but for the most part everyone makes sure to respect them
- there's so much diversity and inclusion for everyone, it's wonderful
- the way we sometimes take a few hours to talk about older arcs again and analyze them with future clarity is very nice, i love seeing stuff like it on my dash
- i see so many fan songs, which are really really nice, and i haven't seen nearly this many in other fandoms
feel free to add on, we could all use a little positivity rn
