Every once and awhile I see something like "3GS would hate what Mephone did" and I agree that. Obviously, the dude wouldn't be happy about the repetition of the cycle of abuse and what Mephone did to the contestants. But I think people also understate how bad 3GS' actions were? And how he, admittedly, doesn't have much room to judge in 'terrible things to do to an entire group of people'. I also think that a part of 3GS wouldn't even want to know what Mephone did. Obviously, it has to come out eventually for both of their sakes, but I'm sure a part of 3GS would want to keep Mephone in his head as someone who hasn't committed that many wrongs.
Whatever though, complex sibling relationships my beloved!! I do appreciate it when people take nuance into considering 3GS and Mephones relationship and how it will play out with both of them having done really horrible things. But I still think saying 3GS would hate Mephone is a step too far. Mephone is the end result of the genocide 3GS and his crew committed on the Shimmers (Obviously cobs is guilty in that too), and... It's possible he wouldn't have existed at all like he does if 3GS had entirely failed and not even brought back a single egg. Mephone is the product of 3GS' crimes, and I feel like that already weakens some of the hate 3GS could feel to Mephone. Because his actions led to Mephone having the ability to create life in the first place-- Which, mind you, he didn't really know he had, and thus allowing him to torture those contestants in his reality tv show.
Something something they're both at fault for their actions, no doubt, but theres also a complex layer of 'Who's truly to blame?' That goes all the way up this 'Generational Trauma Tree' of Meeple to Steve Cobs. I think 3GS would have a far easier time looking past Mephone's actions because of his hatred for Cobs and also uh, probably blaming himself a little, even if he really isn't at fault that much here. I think this in the same way that Mephone would have an easier time looking past 3GS' actions. At the end of the day, both of them have a similar experience in Meeple as each other and can work through to understand why they did what they did with each other, and slowly but surely learn to change for the better and move on.
Both of them are incrediblyyyy morally grey, mostly due to forces outside their control, but partially due to their own horrid actions. And god, they deserve to move on and be better people. Even despite the actions they've committed. Not because their actions weren't bad, but because their actions are incredibly morally complex when factoring in Cobs' involvement. Something something can you blame a robot for doing it's job when all it's known is how to do that job? (In this case yes you can) (but it's still a complicated question even in this context). And I love the discussion surrounding it, so if anyone has anything to add, feel free to. This is just my silly little meeple-head opinion. -2G Anon
