Natalie with an artistic girlfriend
Natalie Scatorccio x Fem!Reader
Tw: Nothing just teenagers being silly...and maybe a little nudity, but just a little☝️Also this hasn't been reviewed and probably won't be.
(English is not my first language)
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ This girl is definitely your number one fan, no matter what your art style or if you think a certain project of yours isn't very good, she will always think it's amazing and shower you with compliments because it's you and she loves you so much, and loves all your art <3 you could literally just draw some stick figures out of sheer boredom and she would treat it like it was the greatest work of art of the century.
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ She loves just sitting next to you while you draw, because she loves the artistic process, especially when the sketch starts with something "ugly and meaningless" and ends up being something incredible, you can see the shocked expression and the stars in her eyes as you watch the end result and she's all, "How did you do that?😲"
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ She would love to have little art dates, even if that's your thing and not hers, this girl just likes spending time with you <3 She would also try so hard to do something cool and impress you, but I really think she would have the artistic gifts of a two-week-old baby and she would be all "☹️" because you think her drawing is horrible and that you wouldn't like it, but when you see that she tried to draw you together in a little house, just like those children's drawings, you would be falling in love with her and showering this girl with kisses and affection, and she would be so embarrassed (in a good way); the next time she came to your house and saw her drawing on the wall along with her thousands of others, she would feel like melting like butter, if this girl had a tail you could see it wagging like a puppy's.
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ She would also be very messy during these meetings, always ending up completely dirty, whether from paint or colored markers, or whatever materials you were using; She would be the type who forgets that her hands are dirty and passes them over her face and then her face also becomes dirty, she only realizes it when you warn her between amused laughs.
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ One of her greatest fun is leafing through her sketchbooks, she could literally spend hours just sitting while going through each one of them, always commenting on her favorite drawings from each sketchbook and also about her evolution in art, in a Modern!au she there would probably be a million photos of your drawings on her phone
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ She would love to receive gifts made by you, drawings, collages, paintings, origami; It doesn't matter, she would keep them all in a hidden box under her bed just to make sure her father wouldn't find them and ruin them, but I think she would at least have one drawing stuck on her bedroom wall so she could look at it while she thinks. in you♡
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ If you needed a live model for a project she would 100% step up to that role, even though I think she would never be able to stand still long enough for that, but it's the intention that counts
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ It is common knowledge that her life in general is very troubled, so I feel that throughout her life this girl has always needed to be very cautious about everything, closing herself off from people as a way of protecting herself because everyone she has ever liked they left or hurt her in some way and there are still her shitty parents, you are the first constant in this poor baby's life, the first person she has really opened up to, and it shows in the little things, the little details about you that are there for her even when you're physically not there, that makes her feel loved, that reminds her that now she finally has someone; These little things are your drawings, your art, like all the gifts carefully stored in the box under her pants, or the little patterns of colorful flowers in acrylic paint on the headboard of her bed, or the marker doodles you helped her with. to do on the old all stars, the little discreet drawings scribbled on the theoretically imperceptible corners of her walls, all the silly and fun sketches you made in her notebooks and she loves <3333 it's the little things that make her melt and realize how much she loves you
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend------ She would also be your greatest muse, as if you had a special Sketchbook unique and exclusively dedicated to her, just with drawings of her, it's all about her ♡♡♡ sketches with little notes about how much you love her and how beautiful she is, or drawings of her features that you like, like a drawing of her nose with a note about how you like the little slope of it, or drawings of her eyes saying how pretty they are, etc, etc <3 She would 100% know about him because you never really hid it and she would probably get all emotional about it because no one has ever treated her with so much love or noticed the little things about her
Natalie with an artistic girlfriend ------ Thinking about a Modern!au where you beg her to let you do that tik tok trend with her where you paint a canvas on your boyfriend/girlfriend's back, and you don't even have to beg a lot because she agrees immediately. So imagine being in your bed with Natalie lying on her stomach, without a shirt or bra on and you have an amazing view of the pale skin of her back and the cute freckles there :(( she is so beautiful and sensitive and would get goosebumps at the slightest touch of the brush on your back, like she gets goosebumps all over because the paint feels so cold and she does her best to stay still and not disturb you, but she can't help but laugh every few seconds

I love your art so much, you’re part of the reason I started drawing again. Your old art is cool, and your new art just has so much emotion and detail in it, it deserves so much praise. Do you have any advice on how you upskilled so well into the amazing art you do today? I really want to learn to be skilled like you are and improve to your level
Dude, thank you so much. I'm super flattered but also have major Impostor Syndrome right now lol.
The biggest thing that helped me was getting a drawing tablet and learning how to use digital art programs like Canvas or Procreate. I am a very messy artist - my traditional sketchbooks were always a nightmare because of how often I erase shit, so being able to use programs where I can simply undo or reposition a line was a game-changer.
I'm also incredibly indecisive and struggle with linework, but I found some great brushes that mimic the effects of ink pens and watercolor so I can achieve the messy, painted look. (This Sketchbook set and lineart set are the two I use the most)
Use as many references as you need! Gather a bunch of base poses to get the hang of proportions and anatomy (my go-to artist is Mellon_Soup. Screenshots from movies and shows work great too)
Try out posing tools like this one
A fun exercise that helps me is to paste a photo or drawing on one layer, and then on the layer above, sketch the main aspects in 30 seconds. Delete the first layer and then work solely off of the sketch (and yes it will absolutely look spooky and/or silly). If you need more time at first, start with 60 seconds and work your way down as you get the hang of it:
Take pictures of yourself in the poses you want to draw
Find artists with a style that resonates with you and study their work
The Multiply tool on Procreate is AMAZING for adding depth to artwork. I use this on almost everything. Add a slightly darker color on top of the whole set of layers, switch it to Multiply, and then go in with the eraser to mark the areas where the light hits
Keep practicing, no matter how shitty you think it looks! Just keep going!!
Uh I think that's it? I'll add more if I remember anything else.
I wish you the best of luck on your art journey! <3

↬ MICHELANGELO WITH AN ARTSY BEST FRIEND.
rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles.
request: ❝ platonic gender neutral reader + mikey being artist besties?? they draw or paint or whatever together mayhaps??? tysm in advance if you end up doing this ^-^ ❞ — anonymous.
warnings: none. platonic relationships.
characters: michelangelo.
writers note: this actually sounds so cute! I love this boy, so I got you, hopefully this came out like you wanted. I’m sorry for getting to your request late.
✶ michelangelo is delighted, he’s happy to have someone who he can get artsy and messy with, especially in paint, he loves that.. he’s capable of having fun and help each other paint, not only that and if you’re comfortable with. you both can show and compliment each others project, and give an explanation of said project.
✶ mikey will never judge you, whatever it may look like he’ll either compliment you or give you advice to help you progress as you go, it never rude, he’s supportive and helpful.
✶ during painting sessions, it definitely gets messy — really messy, he’ll likely whip paint on you, it could either be your clothes, face.. he’s likely to accidentally to put some into your hair.. however the hell that happens, he just use that opportunity to make a mess and become a competitive.
✶ speaking of competitive, he’s very competitive (not as bad as leo). he loves the challenge and raph is the judge who has the better drawing or something, but it always leads to both of you winning.
✶ if you made him something, he definitely hangs it up in his room or put it somewhere in his room, doesn’t allow anyone to touch it, just look. like as if its an art museum. whatever it looks like, he’s treating it like you painted mona lisa.
✶ he will definitely be your model, he would love to be something for your inspiration, you’ll get him all giddy and shit. it could be a sketch or a painting, he doesn’t care, he’s just happy that you wanted him to your model, but I don’t think he could stand or sit still long enough.
✶ he looks like the type to finger paint, it’s simple, yet it’s fun when it’s with you.
✶ he’s definitely painted you before and gave it to you as a gift, he was so happy when you said you loved it and had it in your room.
✶ he loves to challenge you, he’ll find a character and have you draw it. it could be in your style or the cartoon style. he’ll do it too, just because it’s fun and he wanted to see who could do it better.
✶ michelangelo wants to see everything you drawn or painted. he even wants to see your old sketche books for when you were like ten. he will show you his too, I think he’ll get a bit embarrassed by it.. because you know, it’s ugly (as an artist would say.)
✶ everything aside, this kid loves everything you make, it could be painted or drawn and loves having fun painting with you. he has places other than the lair to paint or sketch. you both have a secret hideout to do all those things.
end - I feel like I’m missing something but I don’t know what, it’ll come to me.. boy I’m shleepy.

Writing tip: Explorer Mode!
(Loosely based on Assassin's Creed's Discovery Mode)
Starting off a first draft? Not quite happy with your wording or the starting scene? Inclined to jump around the plot? No idea what the plot is, or who the characters are yet, but still determined to write?
Use Explorer Mode! Your story is an adventure in and of itself, and you are Indiana Jones in the Temple of your Creativity. Write notes, scenes, memes, character motivations, bits of poetry or prose from books or media that inspire you, doodle in the margins, but write. Draw a map from one scene to another. Document your journey, even where you fall into a plot hole full of snakes. You are here to find the story, not make a finished project. It's not so much a first draft as it is a draft zero.
How to switch into Explorer Mode:
It's best to have a dedicated journal to wreck, but you can use whatever writing software you like. Some recommendations: Obsidian, Notion, Campfire Writing, and World Anvil.
At the top of the page, write Explorer Mode, and use it as a header or footer for each page if you have to, to remind you.
Keep it loose. You don't have to keep anything you write in here, but try not to discard anything. Whatever you have might be useful for writing the first draft later, or laughing at with friends.
Make it multimedia! If it's a physical journal, decorate it, draw on it, paint on it, add stickes and fancy scrapbooking paper, pretty washi tape, whatever you like. Cut out pictures from magazines, or tear out pages from old books. Don't be afraid to get messy with it.
Music, music, music! Definitely write down some playlists, or put in some links if you're using a digital journal. Write down the actual names and artists of the songs, however, and when you listen to each one, take notes. What character or scene might this relate to? Who would sing it? What lyrics inspire you? When you close your eyes and just listen, what do you picture in your mind's eye?
Involve the senses! There is nothing so evocative for the memory as scent. Scent your journal, or your pages. Add in a perfume, a fragrance oil, and lightly dab a page. Make a small envelope for a sachet of spices or a scented bit of gauze. What does the scene you're writing smell like? If you're working digitally, write down the notes of fragrances, or which candle you'd like to burn while writing this scene. You can do this with taste, too. Have a few dedicated recipes, if you like to cook, or places to eat that remind you of characters, settings, or plot points. What are your characters' favourite foods? Their comfort foods? For more on food and worldbuilding see my post here.
Get crafty! Make artefacts from your world or story. Embrace other art forms to realise it in your own world. Once when I was taking a ceramics class, I made a series of cups, goblets, and tea pots in the style of one of the countries from my high fantasy world. I love to see them and hold them, and imagine my characters having items just like these (or pretend that these are the real items they used). Sculpt, sketch, make delicate jewellery, sew clothes or a quilt, look up some fun DIY projects on YouTube that might relate to your story or character's interests and give it a go! Remember this is an exploration, so these crafts don't have to be perfect. It's a good idea to have something physical to do, something that you can do while listening to your story playlists, something you can accomplish while you daydream.
And that's about it! Take breaks from Explorer Mode whenever you like, to either actually start work on the first draft because you now feel more confident and comfortable with it, or just to chill and not think of anything for a while. That's important too. Most importantly, have fun! This is art we're making here, and we are artists, but we are also archaeologists, anthropologists, scientists, historians, and explorers of every kind.
Now go out there and have an adventure!

"Art wasn't supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”
Some headcanons today about Crypto and his art :) I know it isn’t mentioned much, but when has that ever mattered?
☆ I picture him having a really loose, sketchy kind of style. He draws in a free, exploratory way a lot of the time
☆ Because of the way he's grown up, he’s used to using minimal supplies and making what tools he’s got last as long as possible. It’s always been more about the art than about what supplies he uses to make it, because art is a means of expression and regulation for him
☆ Even though he could get better materials now, I think it would take a bit before he felt like getting something nicer or working with a wider variety of things. He’d have to warm up to the idea over time and probably some encouragement from others
☆ There’s this Tiktok that I really like, I love the way this artist creates. Park’s drawings and paintings are like this a lot—quick, free, not much thought, doing it to relieve stress not to create more sitting on details
☆ I can imagine him having drawn and painted so many things… like Paradise Lounge, Game locations and events, other legends, buildings, animals, etc. Pencil, then ink in some places, brought to life with a color or two using watercolor or pastel in a messy way
☆ Picturing that wherever he keeps his art and supplies would be about as cluttered as everything else… Pencils used down to the very nub, dirtied erasers, pastels that smudge onto each other, watercolors that have hit pan but still contain usable color in the corner…
☆ Honestly, if his area was too clean, he would probably struggle to get started again. Looking at a blank sketchbook or a new set of paint would make him stare and stress about getting started—having everything already used and familiar and worn makes it easy to hop back in
☆ Does lots of experimental work… Testing different color combinations, testing art styles… Anatomy practice from books and other references, practicing light and shadow and positioning with various objects like fruit and such. Has probably drawn his own art tools many times because it’s an easy way to play around with the way things sit and look in a 3D space
☆ He has a couple different kinds of art, the more rough sketches and then bigger, cleaner pieces… Most of it is rough and for fun, but sometimes he’s proud of something or really spurned on by an idea, so he’ll take the idea and redo it/make it better on a larger scale

I literally love your art sm. It's a big inspiration of mine.
So! A question I have is, what's your process? How do you go about getting ideas and turning them into pieces? I would really love to know <3
WUUAHHHGGH OMG URE SO SWEET 🥹🥹😭🥹😭😭😭 Melting with joy uaushfhshgs,, I cannot fathom someone being inspired by my art this means sm to me🥺🙏
As for my process? I always have ideas floating around my mind, but when I actually feel like turning it into a piece it usually starts with me making some thumbnails (one or two normally but it can be more sometimes). My process changes depending on the style I’m doing that piece in?? I try avoid doing actual line art if possible but that’s entirely on the grounds that I hate doing it LOL. Most of my process is spent messing around with colours because that’s the most fun part to me. Colours are a big part of me actually starting a piece, even during the sketch I try map out the values vaguely and colour language is always at the forefront of my mind when tackling a piece.
But from start to finish my process looks like this:
Inspiration for an idea is usually just what character I am feeling attached to on that given week. I doodle them quite a lot (traditional or digital) before making an actual piece with them so I can figure out stylisation and what kind of mood I’m in
Thumbnailing. This is not always present? If I have a clear image in my mind of what I want to draw or I’m just vaguely drawing a character, I won’t thumbnail. But I always thumbnail if it’s more than one character
Cleaning up the sketch or god forbid the line art usually happens now. I hate this part because my thumbnails are quite messy so this is the part where I actually have to think hard about how the final piece will look
Value planning and colour planning is my favourite part and what I am actually thinking about since the beginning. This is also where I plan the lighting. As a general rule of thumb I try keep my layers under/around 10 so it makes rendering a little easier
Rendering rendering rendering. I add details and paint the colour layers with all that they need. Merge all the layers (as a duplicate) and paint over again to further render, clean up, paint over the line art/sketch
Make some final colour adjustments with gradient map or curves before adding some noise and maybe cross hatching
#jumping for joy hugging you stranger on the internet..!#this made my day wahhh I hope u don’t mind me yapping a little bit LOL#deadbaguettesask

hihihi !! came across your tumblr while looking at hermitcraft/life series art (your art is lovely by the way, definitely going into my cool people with cool art collection) , and saw that you use/used krita !! as a krita user, i would love to know your main brushes and canvas sizes, and art process too :D would love to get into things like illustration but no clue where to start ,,
hello! since i get asked about stuff like that relatively often and i'm usually too lazy to answer properly everytime i'll use this ask to answer all of those in one big post :D
Brushes
i don't think i have main brushes? i jump from style to style quite frequently and i love love love trying out new stuff so the set of brushes i'm using for any given drawing can change drastically but there're a few that came to my mind
i've been vibing with the first brush the most lately! it's kinda has spray paint feel to it?? but not really? idk but it's fun to make messy sketches with :D 2nd and 3rd are probably the brushes i find myself coming back to most often bc they're just really basic lol
all of the brushes ^ are default krita brushes bc i dont like downloading brushes from the internet so if you wanna find cool non default krita brushes you'll need to ask sm1 else sorry
(btw my advice: don't care about brushes. limiting oneself to a certain set of brushes can also limit the creativity so don't do that)
Canvas Size
my default canvas size is 2000 x 2000 px and it usually goes up from that if i need other proportions for a piece - basically that means that the shortest side of (almost) any of my drawings is minimum 2000px (2000 x 3000, 2500 x 2000, etc). for pixel art it's the same rules but for minimum of 200px!
social media eats the quality of images really hard so i usually don't see the point of drawing on bigger canvases than that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Art Process
there isn't much to say about the art process for me bc i'm sure my process is not too different from everyone else's process lol for lineart stuff it's the usual:
super messy, super quick sketch
cleaner sketch (depending on the art style and the vibe i'm going for this step can be skipped)
messy colouring (also can be skipped sometimes; this step is just for myself to find the colour palette i wanna use and to determine whether i like the drawing so far or not so i can change the idea or completely abandon the piece)
clean lineart
flat colouring + shading
adding small details, colouring the lineart, making lighting prettier, etc. (this one cannot be properly described bc for me it's usually a mess of tweaking everything and nothing until i like the final product)
for lineless stuff i don't have a process - i put pretty colours on the canvas and just,, Pray for the best or smth lmao
it most likely won’t be helpful but i do have youtube channel where i (once in a blue moon) post speedpaints! they might help in understanding what my art process is
and that's it i think? i hope this was useful at least in some way :D it's not the best idea to ask me about any of art related things bc my approach to art can be summarised with throwing stuff at the wall until smth sticks lmao
#asks and stuff#this is a Mess#i got very sick exactly on january 1st (good start of the year) and i'm still sick#and bc of that my brain is slow at times so#if anything is incomprehensible i'm sorry

What program and brushes do you normally use? I love the way you color and render everything. Your art is very eatable
First off THANK YOU VERY MUCH ʕ´• ᴥ•̥`ʔ♥️!!
Since the beginning of last year I've been using Procreate mainly, but my real go to program is Clip Studio Paint!
I wish I had a more fancy process with custom brushes and stuff, but I mainly work with the default brushes when I'm in Procreate:
Technical Pencil (for whatever line work I start off with + smaller details in coloring + eraser)
Flat Brush (base colors + eraser)
Rectango (this is the chaotic brush used whenever and unsparingly.... I like the texture 👍 on drawings like this it is basically built only using this brush.)
And that's my main brushes for Procreate! Anything else I use depends on the situation.... Soft Brush is good to dust colors, Technical Pen is I actually am forced to do line art, ect ect...
For Clip Studios... I think I use a lot more brushes I've accumulated from the shop and I think one of them isn't even available anymore so I'll have to check ಥ‿ಥ (I've been on Clip there since I was like 13ish??? So it's been a long time)
It's a similar process as procreate, but I feel like I have more control over the details...
Colored pencil (default brush) (used for line work + sketching + coloring)
A marker (Aマーカー) (custom/shop) (used for blending)
커스텀 수채붓 2 (custom/shop) (coloring) unfortunately this grush was deleted by the creator which is terrifying because it is my favorite brush and I'd be ruined without itT^T
And those are the main brushes in Clip Studio!
Again thank you! the main "secret" to my rendering style is in the colors and with finding a messy enough brush (any brush you feel mimics the strokes of a real brush!) Also, don't be afraid to break your line art! In all honesty, I've gotten rid of the line art altogether when doing illustrations and just have a decent sketch, before adding and layering colors.
When it comes to colors, it's kinda a muscle memory thing you have to build up. My biggest advice, if you struggle with color picking, is to consume as much art as possible and observe how others you admire use colors and shading. That's what really helped me develop an eye for what works and what doesn't. Oh, and a fun little cheat is just fucking around with filters and opacity. This can yield some interesting results and get your brain moving when recognizing interesting color combos. And of course, always be willing to experiment with what you learn! Art is all about collecting new rules and breaking any that don't fit you :)
#i hope this answers things well enough...thankyou again!! <3#i didn't mean for that end bit to be so long... sorrryyy#art stuff

I've been trying to develop a pragmatic, "design" sorta art style like in your mech and spaceship sheets. I really like them, do you have any tips?
Hey, Yeah I can try help! I'll also point you in the direction of some of the people I pull inspiration from. ( and take all of my advice with a grain of salt 😝 got to find what works for you personally) Sorry if its a bit rambley I just love sketching. So I have a industrial design / automotive design background so that heavily feeds into the way I think when sketching I also learnt most of my sketching skills on paper with a basic bic ball point pen ('Bic Crystal M' for lyf).
The idea behind my sketching style is to present an idea as quickly and as efficiently as possible for me that's using linework, which can quickly be developed later by throwing colour under it or later painting over the top.
The way I was taught was to flesh out the idea as best as possible not being precious in the sketch phase, focusing on design, shape, hierarchy form etc before drilling down into small details like bolts cut lines, fun details. Make sure the large shapes are strong before proceeding to details other wise you'll need to fix them later.
Once that's done and it might be a bit messy you can focus on cleaning it up. In digital make a new layer to draw on and drop the opacity on the first layer so its barely visibly this will make you focus on the new sketch and not perfectly copying the old. On paper you can put another page on top or just flip it over and draw on the other side! I do this in my sketch book all the time.
That's kinda my process anyway experiment have fun! Hope this helps!
Inspiration: Chroma-moma on youtube great videos on sketching & Sparth on artstation (A god at this type of sketching)
If something doesn't make sense do ask I love to help! And show me your sketches if you do any!!

I love your art style!! How did you gain it?
WAIT OMG 🥹🥹 THANK YOU SO MUCH ANON!!!!!!!!!
okay so! hmm
I've been doing mostly traditional art for a good portion of my life now, so to be honest I'm kind of new to digital art. back then I mostly just drew profiles and faces and wasn't good at anatomy (but to be honest I'm still bad at it- I use Poseit to help me ;D!!) and I hadn't really touched digital art until around. last year to the year before that I'd say? I'm not sure. my memory is horrible
as I said, I now use Poseit to help with structuring my art, and my previous art style just looked a bit. strange with it I'd say? lemme find the first digital art I posted
foster! this one was made using a posing template I found on pinterest, not Poseit. I wasn't all that good about making clothes look like clothes, so other than the little creases in the shirt their clothes look a bit strange. I'm really iffy about the eyes and the way I shaded them, and back then the way I drew scars is really different to how I do now. I'm all for the clean look it has at the end, but I prefer my new style ;3 also I remember I immediately went in with doing lineart instead of sketching out what I wanted to do first? on the plus side, though, as I said the finishing style is clean, the lines are consise and their expression is definitely foster-y, and I actually don't mind the shading!
as previously stated, that was my first try at digital art. now let's take a look at my most recent one, aka my pfp (actually, I'll use two recent ones)
Rayan (left) and Ruaridh (right)!!
let's start with the rayan one! as with foster's, I stuck to having clean lines, except I think I did vary the sizes of the lines? I'm not sure. I've only recently begun adding things like blood and blush to my art, so I don't think I've mastered it just yet. idk, does that count as rendering? I'm not sure
god, bloody noses. I love bloody noses. I had so much fun giving Rayan a bloody nose it's insane. also, you can tell that the lines on the scars are slimmer compared to the ones on foster, but I think they'd look better more like. idk, wiggly? uneven? scarry? I'm not exactly sure
and then Ru, omg Ru. this was my first try making a background, and I used stencils from ibis paint to do the trees n leaves n whatnot. this was more of a chance to experiment than anything; using a textured brush was a really nice change, and I got inspired by @/befuddled-calico-whump (sorry I'm a big lurker around their channel I really like their art) and the way they sometimes show the sketches beneath the actual lineart in their own pieces! it allowed me to be more messy and make it look more candid (?) in my style. I didn't really go for too much shading other than the lighting of the moon, since I still don't know what I'm doing with shading 😭😭
anyway! I guess the simple answer was a lot of years spent tweaking my style, and sort of just experimenting and having fun until I settle on something I'm comfortable with. I'm still new to certain aspects of drawing digitally, but I'm glad that people like my art :3
thank you for the ask!
#am i gonna show you my traditional sketches of foster when i was first figuring out my style? probably not 😭#those can be buried in my notebooks until im confident enough to show y'all lmao#whump ask#i hope i answered your question well anon! i tried my best#whump#whump asks

oh yeah uhm, same anon from before but i was meaning to ask, like; how do you colour? Its okay if you don't want to answer that! The style is so nice, i only colour in flat colours but i've been meaning to change my style a bit but idk how ^^;;
Hope you don't mind me asking you question! Have a nice day!
Hello again! I don't mind at all, I'm happy to share - I love talking about this stuff! It'll probably get long and rambly so sorry in advance.
I don't always have the most consistent style or coloring method but the one I use the most is closer to how I like to paint with oil, I guess. I tend to put a real messy sketch down, maybe cleaning it up some without doing lines. Then I do some base colors underneath to get a general idea of how I want it to look before painting more details on top of everything (in a new layer or after flattening all the layers). During the first stage I like to throw colors I want to incorporate underneath like you would to "underpaint" in oil painting - just separate layers that I color drop from like this:
Which is what I used for this:
You can kind of see the base color stage w/ the underpainting on this one (it was just a sketch so I never got to detailing):
And I'm not always happy with the colors so sometimes I play with gradient layers to make adjustments to the palette retroactively.
Other times I do just paint in black and white and then use overlay layers to color after, which is another painting technique called glazing, I like it when I want something to have strong values (or when I'm feeling like painting in b&w):
Anyway, that's the gist! Feel free to ask more if you have questions or I didn't make sense lol. I happened to have some progress gifs and videos hanging around so it was a fun excuse to post them!
More than anything I think it's fun to just experiment throwing things down and seeing what you think looks cool! Breaking away from what you're used to doing can be hard but it's rewarding when you make something new!
#anon#asks#lush art#I love talking about ART#I do just kind of do whatever the fuck though fr my color theory is p lacking#also the last year or two is the most consistent I've ever been in technique and style#younger me would be baffled that I ever got semi-competent enough at colors to be asked about them lol I've ALWAYS struggled

Krita
If I were facing the same way as the character, I'd say left.
All my personal stories now are stories I've had since I was a child, just more refined, thought-out, and gay.
Macan Gadungan from Tokyo Afterschool Summoners. He's fun to draw but doing his hair gives me a brain adema. It's terribly specific as far as length, consistency, color, and all that, despite it not actually looking that complicated at all.
Maybe online 80/20 for myself
I get a lot of subconscious inspiration from videogames and book-readings.
Watercolor. It's beautiful and sophisticated while also being messy and untamed. I will never be good at it ever.
I used to have a published comic called "Consistently Inconsistent." The idea was similar to Shen's "Bluechair," but I started it durring a rough period in my life and never got into it because of that. I won't ever revamp it.
A one-word file name describing the picture, with -wip for WIPs (of course), -sk for sketches, -lineart for... line art, and some other miscellaneous shit.
Traditional Thai clothing. It's so pretty that it's my mind's eye's ideal look for kind of clothing. We should all wear and learn more about traditional Thai clothing.
Any kind of music that I'm in the mood for.
Nothing about the human body is simple so nothing about it is easy to draw. (I like drawing faces so I'd say face.)
Georgia O'keeffe. I love her paintings, but I'm not interested in taking those aspects with me.
Long hair and defined lips. Every man, woman, other gender, or genderless person is getting sexy lips here.
At my desk, on my bed, or the couch.
Nothing I can think of.
Nope. When I'm drawing, I'm only drawing. If I get distracted by fiddling with anything else, I stop drawing.
Barely any. I used to take good care of my shit. Now I'm a digital artist, and other than Microsoft's shitty surface pens, I have nothing to break.
Morning Glory flowers. Just like traditional Thai clothing, it has a certain quality of beauty that I strive to empliment into my art.
Hands. People say hands are hard to draw. I disagree. I like them. I don't have much of a problem. (Use your own hand as a reference!)
Not the whole of the art style, but cross hatching used a lot in manga. I always use cross hatching.
Strech out and pop my fingers.
I use vector layers when I do lineart, which is almost never. (So no.)
On occasion yes. Mostly for animals though.
Uh... nothing I can think of right now. But I've been told I look like Jacob Elordi.
Nothing, people don't comment on my art because it's borring. (This isn't a self-burn or self-degridation, my art is boring and I don't care, I draw boring art because I like to.)
I draw busts of my characters to warm up.
No.
This question covers a lot of stuff, so I can't answer it.
Uh... IDK. Maybe my pic of Bonnie from FNAF Ruin. I really liked that one and people seem to think it sucks. I don't really care about that shit anymore though. I draw what I want.
Weirdly Specific Artist Ask Game
Didn't see a lot of artist ask games, wanted to make a silly one.
(I wrote this while sick out of my mind last year and it's been collecting dust in my drafts, I might as well let it run free) 1. Art programs you have but don't use
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
3. What ideas come from when you were little
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
9. What are your file name conventions
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
12. Easiest part of body to draw
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
14. Any favorite motifs
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
22. What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any
23. Do you use different layer modes
24. Do your references include stock images
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated

Hi. I love your Thomastair art and your artstyle and was wondering if you could tell me a little more about your process (I assume you draw digitally)
I've only been drawing digitally myself for a couple of weeks so I'm curious how other people do it.
this is so FUCKING OLD but i told myself id answer it even if this info is useless to you now bc NO ASK GETS LEFT BEHIND IM SO SORRY IVE THOUGHT ABOUT TTHIS EVERY SINGLE DAY IM SO SERIOUS i was in an art block for so long 😭
i will cry tysm you’re so nice i really need to get back into it
YES DIGITAL ART IS SO FUN what program are you using? i use procreate on the ipad
my process is an absolute fucking nightmare im the person those art accounts warn you about it’s really bad
i start out w a really messy sketch, usually a colour blob to draw lines over and establish guides. i go over the sketch 2-3 cleaning it up until i end up w something like the right, just usually a little messier, i clean it up and edit and change colour as needed along the way. i kinda hate line art, i never do it, clean sketches work so much better for me.
for colouring, i block out the biggest areas w one colour, then use clipping mask on that section i block out smaller sections on different layers, like the skin is a different layer from the dress, this makes colouring a lot easier if youre not doing a more traditional paint style at least imo
then it comes down to individually colouring everything. im a HUGE fan of lighting so i start off w a warm overlay, ESPECIALLY for this one since its firelight but you can tell by anything else ive done that’s its usually the case. it looks really weird rn but trust the process. then i usually go in w a dark purple on multiply for shadows. i do it on multiple different layers, smudging some, some have darker opacities to have darker effects in certain areas etc etc and editing the line work where its needed and adding more lines for detail.
this is also when i sort a background out if needed to make sure the lighting works. then to continue the nightmare on even MORE layers, i do the lighting. some blurred and some lines, in places where the light would hit as well as some face details like blush now that the lighting colours are done.
this isn’t the best i kinda fucked up her face w the colouring i like the sketch sm more but also that’s part of improving and ive been out of it for a while its a new years resolution to stay on top of art, but this has been my general process for a while. its a literal fucking nightmare i use close to or over 100 layers on anything more than a sketch but its really helpful if you’re a bit anxious and want to be able to go back and switch things out. its kinda hard to maneuver with but its worth it for me. once again this is so old you probably dont even care anymore but i needed to answer it at the very least for my conscience im SO SORRY

TR WITH AN ARTIST!S/O
summary: artist!s/o who asks the boys to pose for them
characters: ken, shinichiro, rindou, sanzu and chifuyu
warnings: fluff?
note: hello hello!! thanks for requesting hun~ sorry for being late :(
DRAKEN
; he knew that you liked drawing, that’s all
; ken always loved watching you while painting, and he must admit that you were also pretty good at it
; but you were too shy to ask him to pose for you, fearing a refusal
; at your birthday tho, he asked you if you wanted to do something in particular with him. like a date or sum
; “so uh,, actually, could you pose for me please..?”
; he was totally fine and delighted to become your model
; you ended up making him pose with his hair down ‘cause he looked so gorgeous tbh <3
SHINICHIRO
; okay so- this guys right here actually asked you multiple times A DAY if he could pose for you
; and you always rejected him, saying you weren’t that good at painting
and stuff
; to tell the truth, you weren’t enough confident in your drawing skills and wanted to improve
; after some months, you felt that you were ready to try
; “shin~ c’me here for a sec babe”
; after telling him that you wanted to try, his eyes lightened up
; “omg really??? are ya sure angel?? aaaa i’m so happy really- i could actually cry wait a sec-“
; he was just so cute lmg :((
; ++ he blushed a lot while you were sketching bc he felt embarrassed <3
RINDOU
; tbh he was secretly interested in this hobby of yours
; never expressed more than a “you’re good at it” or “that’s pretty”
; wanted to see a sketch of him so bad on your sketchbook
; never dared to look on it tho 😟
; and then one day you finally asked him “so.. wanna try to pose for me, rin?”
; ABSOLUTELY happy
; was trying to hide everything but his smile showed up as soon as he hear what you said
; “yeah uh, well sure i guess”
; your painting ended up really cute, he was blushing a lot pls<3
SANZU
; was actually into drawing too
; has already asked you multiple times if y’all could paint together
; but you never painted each other
; he was secretly waiting for your anniversary to ask this kind of favor
; he thought it would be fun tbh
; so during the special day, he suddenly asked “y/n, doll, what if we draw each other? it could be fun”
; your heart suddenly started to beat faster, feeling a lot of joy in your body
; “yeah let’s do it!!”
; that <date> ended up really cute <3
; you both tried new painting styles, and all the room looked kinda messy
; but you still had fun
CHIFUYU
; he’s totally shy when you ask him to pose for you out of nowhere
; “i- uh are you sure i’m the best model?”
; so insecure about himself??? baby why??
; def took him an hour or more to choose what to wear for you :(
; “are my hair fine? how do i pose?”
; feeling a bit nervous aw
; he didn’t know what to do pls he’s so cute
; it took you a bit but you tried to make him laugh during your sketching time
; so he would feel less pressured
; he was actually happy of receiving the painting !
; def hanged it up somewhere in his room with a note like “from y/n for me<3”

For the person who sent the ask, I actually had the procreate process video for this old piece I still like! My only issue with procreate process videos is that you can’t see where I zoom in and the actual UI of the program, so I’ll add some notes on my process:
Lay down the sketch as messy as I want, since I know I’m going to just color block over anyways. Once I block out the colors on a layer above my sketch I just merge them down onto one layer and paint on that. I really suck at keeping track of layers and mostly learned to paint traditionally so one layer usually works fine for me. I do use layer styles like multiply, overlay, etc but only on occasion bc I feel like don’t like the colors as much compared to when I just pick them by hand. I do use a multiply layer at one point in this pic to add a ring of darkness around the edges, this is to draw more focus to the center.
I render mostly by jumping around to different parts of the painting, if I get bored of something I’ll just jump to another spot that needs my attention. You can see me immediately starting with the hair bc that’s the most fun for me to render, I just love the feeling of drawing a flowing line lol. To the point where I didn’t even mind going back and making the orange haired figures hair wavy. As I go on rendering, I gradually start making my darks darker and lights even lighter, this is to add more depth to the picture.
I mainly use just a few default tools, the hard airbrush (with pen pressure enabled), technical pen (for more detailed lines, i decrease and increase the size of the brush depending on my needs), and the smudge tool (medium airbrush). I also use the 6B pencil brush on occasion here and if I used textured brushes that ones my go-to.
There’s also a point where you can see I draw red circles on a different layer, that’s because I was feeling tired and was gonna come back to the picture later, the red circle marks areas I wanted to focus on when I came back to the drawing.
If you have any more questions about my process please ask! I’m always happy to share.
