| Nick's POV |
Me and Nate sat in the car on the way to the airport for my court case in Nevada "did you see Joe Rogan's new podcast?" Nate asked I looked away from the window to him "No I don't think so" I shook my head "why?" I asked "Y/n was on.." I nodded "you should listen to it" I just nod again.
Once we got on the plane I sat down grabbing my headphones on turning on the podcast for the rest of the flight. Joe asked her about her podcast and her job
"Then I have to ask your most known for being with Nick Diaz, for what 4-5 years?" he asked her "yeah...4 and a half years" she nodded with a tight smile "if you don't mind me asking why did you break up?" "um he was about to fight George and he was training really hard...but then he just got distant like two weeks before the fight and then he asked me not to come to his fight...and I had always gone to his fights so it kinda hurt me a bit so sat down with him and i asked why he got all upset! it's like I get he has to train and shit, even if he didn't want me at his fights that's fine but say more then Hi, bye and good night!" "so you broke up with him?" Joe asked "I just said if he didn't talk to me about it I won't be home when he comes back, and he didn't talk so I left" "never talked since?" "no haven't talked for two years....I was always waiting for him to call..Still kinda am but..." she bit her lip which I know is how she stops herself from crying, then shook her head "still love him?" "your asking very girly questions" she laughed and sniffled, Joe laughed "it's questions people want to know" "yeah I do" she said fast "and like no matter what i'll always be there for him...with all the bullshit going on with him right about he could get banned for a year" she shook her head wiping her eyes "sorry" she whispered. "it's okay" he handed her a tissue "thanks ..then I think it's my fault because it's like why the fuck didn't I call..or just shut up about it cause I can't call him now he's done he moved on" she shrugged wiping her eyes again.
I turned off my phone throwing it in my backpack, I got up and went into the small bathroom running my hands down my face. i'm far from moved on, I still have her picture on my nightstand and one of us in my wallet. I pasted in the small small bathroom, I sighed went out of the bathroom "you shouldn't have made me watch that" I told Nate shaking my head, Nate shrugged.
----- That Night -----
| Y/n's POV |
I was about 10 Pm and I was sitting in bed mindlessly scrolling on my phone. I found out earlier that Nick wasn't just banned for a year but for five and fined 165,000 dollars, he wasn't even allowed to go watch his brother fight. I threw my phone to the side getting under my covers. my favorite song came through my phone Nick <3 Nick why would nick call me? "Hello?" I said into the phone I hear sniffling "hey Y/n..i'm sorry to call but..-" he cleared his throat "it's okay..is everything alright?" I sat up "No" his voice broke "I really need you" he took a deep breath "Please..could you come over?" he sniffled again "of course...are you at the same place?" "yeah um you can just come in..i'm in ou-my room" he sighed "okay i'll be over soon k" I said softly "okay..."
I grabbed a hoodie and put my shoes on, grabbed my keys. I haven't seen Nick or talked to him in two years since we broke up, I don't even know how to feel. I walked in the house which most of the time had all his friends and his brother sitting around smoking and watching an old UFC fight on TV, but tonight it was quite no TV's on, not one person just quite. I walked down the hall to what was our old room, I open the door to see him sitting on the edge of the bed his head in his hands, his shoulders shook. When he lifted his head up, his eye's were puffy tear stains on his cheeks. He stood up coming over to me, he wrapped his arms around my waist his head going into the nook of my neck. I wrapped my arms around his neck "i'm sorry" he said into my neck pulling me tighter "i'm so sorry" he added "shh it's okay...don't be sorry" I ran my hands down his back "I don't know what i'm gonna do" he added crying again, I pulled away from him cupping his face running my thumbs under his eyes "it will be okay I promise" he shook his head "it's already not okay" he cried again, "it will get better " he shook his head again.
We were laying in his bed after a bit he relaxed and now had his head on my chest with his arm around my waist , I ran my fingers through his hair "thanks for coming" he said rubbing my hip "of course Nick" moving my fingers to his neck "...i'm sorry I walked out that day" I nod "and i'm sorry I pushed you away.." he took a deep breath "I know" I lightly kissed his head. He moved up face to face with me, placing his hand on my neck he pecked my lips "I still love you too" he said I smiled "I love you" I laughed "what?"" he smiled "you watched that podcast?" "yeah...and to let you know I haven't moved on," he sighed and leaned over opening his nightstand drawer taking out a picture frame with a photo of us "I put that away before you came" he smiled "yeah me neither" I showed him my screensaver smiled, his smile grew bigger and he kissed me again.

I can’t believe that these haven’t already been mentioned but:
The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells In which our protagonist is a nonbinary, ace (possibly aro?) introvert that just wants to be left alone to watch its shows. And maybe figure out what it wants. Novella numero uno is about it guarding scientists until something tries to eat them that should have been on their hazard map and they have to figure out if it’s the Company’s stuff being shitty (again) or actual sabotage.
Ilona Andrews’ series. Seriously, any of them. They’re all paranormal/supernatural romance series. Kate Daniels features a mercenary in post-apocalyptic Atlanta who starts the series by having to solve the murder of her guardian and sassing the Beast Lord (who rules the were-people pack of Atlanta that is in fact one of the largest in the world) as well as annoying the Masters of the Dead aka the vampire pilots. The Edge features books focusing on a different couple in each book but essentially there’s our world, a fantasy world, and then The Edge is a boundary between them and there’s all sorts of hijinks. Though be aware book two gets very deeply into body-horror due to the nature of one of the groups in magic land. Innkeeper Chronicles is a wonderful blend of scifi and fantasy in which Dina Demille runs a bed and breakfast in Texas that only serves intergalactic guests and needs to keep that secret from humanity! Any land the inn owns is land where she controls everything from the architecture to whether or not the air is poisonous. There is a minor love triangle for a bit. There are also vampires and werewolves. It’s a fantastic comfort read lemme tell you. Hidden Legacy is neck and neck with Innkeeper for my fav series of theirs right now, especially since I own the audiobooks for it. Think X-men, but if people with magic abilities were extremely common and families formed houses and had genetic databases to help them plan how to essentially breed more power into the family. Now take your first female lead, Nevada Baylor, who’s magic lets her know when someone lies and has worked her entire life to keep her magic secret. She’s a PI, and she’s hired to bring in a pyrokinetic who’s very very powerful. She immediately runs into Mad Rogan, a telekinetic with all sorts of fun monikers because surprise! He’s also after the pyrokinetic! She hates his guts, and he’s annoyed that she won’t just help him find the pyrokinetic.
Anyway I think you should read those.
listen I ended up regretting saying anything about this on my old blog because people will interpret literally any and every statement maliciously on this hellsite but I want to start like. a helpline for people who are like “hey I pretty much only read YA but I’m like 22 now and don’t relate to teenagers as much, it’s such a shame that there are no fun books written for adults :(” because boy HOWDY are there some fun books for adults

His mouth opened wider beneath mine. His arms closed around me. He kissed me back. There was no magic this time. No phantom fire, no velvet pressure. Just a man, who tasted like the glory of heaven and the sin of hell rolled into one. - He had shrugged off the cold serenity for her, and the world around him bloomed. He felt like an addict who, after abusing a narcotic for years, somehow found himself sober, wandered through his house, opened the front door, and saw a beautiful spring day.                                                 ― Hidden Legacy by Ilona Andrews

I don't usually get to read books in a series one after the other (even when I already have the books on-hand, LOL) but with Hidden Legacy, I just HAD to get my Nevada x Connor fix right away!⠀ •⠀ Book 1, and even some parts of Book 2, were filled with setting up both the fantastic world building in this magical universe, as well as Nevada and Mad Rogan's romance. And just as i thought there weren't any more secrets and dark backstories to unpack, there are so much pleasant surprises in the third installment that I sacrificed sleep for a couple of nights just to get on to it.🤓⠀ •⠀ We got family drama (from these different Houses) that at a glance might seem telenovela-ish, but written so brilliantly, it actually worked. Not one, but TWO love triangle angles that's dealt with nuance and depth. And a magical declaration that tested not only Nevada's limit, but also her whole family's. ❤️⠀ •⠀ I'm always in love with IA's characters because of the agency the have, no matter how minor a character they might be. Choices are made based on motivations that are true to each person, and the consequences (as well as successes) are justified. *Special shout out to Momma Tremaine! Hunty, you twisted and nasty! But your rep and powers, ugh, 🙌🏻 Legendary!*⠀ •⠀ I can't wait for the next book (I already pre-ordered the upcoming novella and am itching for November to roll in sooner!) and maybe I'll start the Kate Daniels ones for the meantime. Heehee.🤗⠀ •⠀ Which upcoming fantasy series are you excited about?⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ . ⠀ #bookstagram #bibliophile #booknerdPH #bookworm #instabooks #bookish #bookstagramersPH #IGreads ⠀ #IlonaAndrews #Wildfire #Hiddenlegacy #UrbanFantasy #Romance #diversebooks #diversereads⠀ #kindlebooks⠀ . . P.S. forever grateful to @chachicsbooknook for gifting me this! 😘

Ilona Andrews owns me. Nevada and Rogan ❤️ That is one of my favorite LI meetups in a book ngl lol
I CANT BELIEVE YOU READ BURN FOR ME AHHH. the tension between nevada and rogan is just 🤌🤌
YESSS @aelin-godkiller told me I should, and I also have @xnightwolfx and @aionuel rooting me on. I finished the Innkeeper series earlier this year, and Kate Daniels last year, and I was kinda saving Hidden Legacy so I'd have more to read but you know? I can't help myself.
I love their tension. I love how the first time Nevada saw Rogan, she was like
Tumblr media
and then she was like "oh shit this scary hot man is coming after me" and ran
And now EVERY TIME she looks at him she can't help but have a thirst response first, self-preservation response second 😂

Title: Burn for Me
Author: Ilona Andrews
Series: Hidden Legacy #1
Genre: Urban Fantasy / PNR
Rating: 4.5/5 stars
The Overview: Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire. Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive. Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world. –Goodreads
The Review:
Everybody who said “ignore the cover, this book is awesome!” was absolutely right.
I should preface this review by saying that I recently got up to date with the Kate Daniels series (my current holy grail of urban fantasy), so I’m still riding the high from all the amazing things I experienced there. My opinion of Burn for Me was definitely influenced by my feelings for these authors in general. Had I read this first, I’m certain the rating would’ve been more conservative because I’d have still been trying to assess how I felt about the writing. Since I already know what these authors are capable of, I can’t help but have my my rating reflect my unbridled excitement to be reading more from them.
I read Burn for Me with my FBR Goodreads group, and one friend summed it up perfectly: if you’re a fan of the Ilona Andrews formula, you’ll probably love this one too. As you can see from the cover, it’s clearly marketed towards / written for more of a paranormal romance fan base (as opposed to urban fantasy). This is also evident in the way they told the story (there’s a heightened focus on half-naked bodies). However, where most of the PNR books I’ve read focus mostly on the romance aspect and do just enough with everything else to get by, that was so not the case here – the plot and world building were just as robust, and in fact the “love story” kind of took a backseat at times.
The most compelling part of this book for me was the attention to detail – basically all of the “setup” components that set the base for the story, including backstories, alternate world histories, and magic systems. I also loved the fun dynamics between the main character and her family. All the characters were good, but my favorite was the Grandma. 🙂
I was worried the characters and the narrative would be similar enough to KD to feel like a knockoff series. While the snarky comebacks, feisty MCs, and relationship dynamics are in the same spirit as what I’ve seen before, it was presented differently enough alleviate that worry. Overall, they did a great job presenting characters and a world that felt fresh. The things that were similar (like the grumpy love interest) were so much fun to read that I probably gave it a pass anyway. I actually thought this was a much better start to a new series than KD, so that should count for something.
Analytically, I can see the book isn’t perfect, but from a pure enjoyment, x-factor standpoint I enjoyed it thoroughly and can’t wait to see where the story goes next.
Recommendations: Read all the things Ilona Andrews. I’m totally biased, and justifiably so considering how much I love these authors. I’d definitely hand this book to UF readers who don’t mind a little more of a romance focus. Burn for Me was a lot of fun and one of the more entertaining books I’ve read this year. Recommended if you like humor, snark, magic, and romance.

He wore his Prime face, inscrutable and detached. But his eyes gave him away. He was barely in control and hanging on by the tips of his fingers.     We could either work through this mess or I could sit in my room and steam in my own hurt feelings. I grabbed his pair of sweatpants, pulled them on, stuck my feet into my slippers, and put my hand in his.                 ―  Wildfire, Ilona Andrews

because boomerangs come back to hit you: top 5/10 kisses! HAH!
u.u not funny, not in order
Catalina and Alessandro (Hidden Legacy), their first kiss was HOOOOOOOOOOOT, the desperation, the love. Scary, beautiful.  “Angelo Mio, so beautiful.”
Kate and Curran (Kate Daniels), they have very cool kisses in all the series, but in Magic Bleeds after she confess her heritage and he tells her he doesn’t care, I loved that, for the first time she kissed someone without the weight of her past.  “You’re a fool, Your Furriness.”
You know what another Kate x Curran, in Magic Strikes, after a fight, with Curran in the floor, Kate atop of him with a knife over his neck *chef kiss*  “I give up. Your move.”
Meg and Simon (The Others) when he kisses the scar in her jaw, so cute, soft and very powerful with the plot.  “Yes, they would be all right.”
Sabran and Ead (The Priory of the Orange Tree) When Sabran kissed Ead in the cheek in front on the other ladies, ahhhhh I was screaming, a kiss full of promisses.  “The rose smelled beautiful, Mistress Duryan.”
Vasya and Morozko (Winternight Trilogy) That last kiss of the second book had me literally crying, I hate it, I loved it.  “Then Vasya stood alone.”
Jude and Cardan (The Folk of the Air) First kiss, first kiss, first kiss, first kiss, first kiss, first kiss.   “You really do want me, and you hate it.”
Mac and Barrons (Fever Series) when Barrons is helping her to gain her memories, and she actually starts remembering and he freaks out cause he is no ready to lose what they had in that moment, very sad but horny kiss.  “You’re leaving me, Rainbow Girl.”
Hugh and Elara (Iron Covenant) when Hugh thinks is a dream, and he tries to seduce Elara and kisses her neck, ahh sad, cute, and very painful.  “Ask me again in the morning.”
Nevada and Rogan (Hidden Legacy) I cannot chose one, honestly I love all of them, but in their last book, after they fight House Harcourts, and walk to each other and he kisses her hair, uhggg beautiful.  “He hugged me to him, tight, hard, and kissed my hair.”
