#I love Akaza so much

One of the most tragic things about demons in KNY is that they’re explicitly bastardizations of their human selves, twisted or malformed into something actively malicious.

Akaza, for example, originally sought strength as a way to provide and protect for his loved ones;

His father, and Koyuki.

He hates the weak because — to him — the weak are the kind who don’t confront you head on and use underhanded tactics. They’re ugly, they lack forbearance, and give into desperation too easily;

They give into the voices in their heads that say they have to hurt others to appease themselves.

This includes the men who laughed at or scorned his ailing father, the members of the dojo who poisoned the well, and the version of himself who killed 67 people for it. Who bloodied his master’s beloved martial arts and the very memory of his father, Keizo, and Koyuki. He wanted to become strong to outgrow that kind of weakness, and he forgot that when he became a demon. His goal became an obsession with strength just for the sake of it, rather than to provide and protect.

This, I believe, is the reason why he offers demonization to — at the very least — people like Rengoku and Giyuu. A part of him recognizes a similar motivation in them, and (because the demon half of him believes his current self to be the culmination of his efforts) he offers them his supposed salvation. A way to continue seeking power far beyond what a human can manage.

His goal survives where his accessible memory died with his corruption;

He subconsciously incorporated his loved ones into his very being as a demon.

A thing that remains consistent across the demons in KNY, with the hand demon and his memory of running home while holding his brother’s hand, the temari demon and her desire to play, and so on so forth. It’s horribly tragic.

But the part that stands out to me is the fact that this seems to apply to Muzan Kibutsuji too, because his desire to live past his disease when he was human manifested into an obsession with immortality as a demon. It didn’t matter that he was healthier than he’d ever been, the sun could still harm him and so he wasn’t perfect just yet. That’s why he searched so desperately for a demon who would either survive the sun or could become a part of the twelve waxing or waning moons who would protect him while he looked.

Fascinatingly, both he and Upper Moon One (Kokushibo) overlook the immortality of the memento mori philosophy. They focused on how they specifically could live on, forgetting that their knowledge and their history could be passed down and used or remembered by the people after them. Maybe that’s why they hated Yorichii so much — because he looked at the future where he would be forgotten and thought that he would love nothing more then to be a simple footnote in this long, arduous journey to their victory.

The Ubayashiki and many of the demon slayers in between felt similarly, giving their lives for the cause and knowing that someone else would one day do what they sought to do… that the world would eventually heal from demons altogether.

shipping renkaza fucking sucks because you either get people who hate real enemies to lovers and call it toxic or pr*ship because they actually are enemies who want to kill each other instead of friends who bicker sometimes (these people are the weakest link and will not survive the winter)

or you get people who do ship it but only in the gooner dumbing-it-down-to-hardcore-porn way where they romanticize and get off to abuse and r*pe (these people are just gross sick individuals and i hope they go extinct)

and the few people who do see the emotional depth in the homoerotic minutes renkaza spent together and the potential in that for top tier doomed yaoi are few and far in between and i rarely find good fics that aren't just insanely ooc porn

we know akaza is a thrasher when tickled BUT there's this one spot right between his shoulder blades which is just an off button. like the ler will accidentally scratch it and he goes limp immediately, his laughter goes silent and if they then switch back to another spot, it'll take him a moment to "get back on track", he'll ofc laugh and shriek and whatever but he needs to collect himself for a moment before he can properly move again. daki and gyutaro think it's hilarious.

“Stahhahahahahap!”

“No ho ho ho!” Daki mimicked, giggling as her nails skittered along the stripes encasing his torso, making him thrash and howl in hysterics. “I barely started and you’re already laughing! Tickle tickle, Lord Akaza~”

That little brat! Douma taught her too well…

“Aheahhahahahha! heheheh-hahhahhahha! Yooohohohohu dahahhahahamn ruhuhuuhnt, I’ll kihiihihihll you-” Akaza sat up some to try and roll her off, but then a figure suddenly manifested from her back.

“Gotcha!” Gyutaro leaped over the bodies, landing just inches behind Akaza. Within seconds, he had both hands clawing at the awful spot between his shoulder blades. “Try to kill us now, Lord Stripes!”

“!!!” A weak little sound escaped before Akaza went limp, falling back into Gyutaro’s chest as his previous howls went near silent. Daki waited for her brother to stop before scratching the lines along his ribcage.

“AHehehehheeheHAHAHHAHAHA GAHHHH!” First there wasn’t much of a reaction, but then Akaza was giggling, then laughing. Now he was squirming like a fish off a hook once more, near shrieky in his mirth. “DHAHHAHKI STAHHHAAP-”

Scratches to his shoulder blades. Instant ragdoll.

“PFFT Oh my god! Lord Douma was right- he really does go limp!” Daki cackled like a witch, clapping her hands in delight as Akaza tried batting her brother off. Gyutaro was just as giggly, equally amused by the effect and pleased that his sister was so thrilled. “Okay okay- one last thing. Hold his wrists.”

“W-Whaahhat? Oh no- No no no, don’t you dare you son of a-” A pinch to his shoulder blades cut him off. That moment of distraction was all Daki needed.

“PFFFFFFFFFT”

“GHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” Akaza all but roared with mirth, full body spasming as Daki blew a loud raspberry against his stomach. The muscles on his arms flexed within Gyutaro’s grip, but they remained unmoving. “OHOHOHOOAKY STHAHAHHAP!”

To his relief, they did. Daki sat back up with a giggle as Gyutaro released his wrists, the two siblings booking it out of there like Lord Muzan just walked in. Akaza would have chased them, but he was far too tired.

“Dahahamn brats…” He groaned, unable to fight off the smile in his voice.

I dont think I've talked about kyojuro and akaza... like inosuke is my fav I love him he's my wife, but OH MY GOSH........ akaza taking one look at kyojuro and being like "fight me. Fight me. Fight me for eternity let us hone our strengths together and fight until the heat death of the universe" and kyojuro being like "Hmm. We have different fundamental values. Kiss the Devil--Chapter 4

A shadow slunk across the trees. 

Giyuu froze and looked at Kyojuro but nearly gasped when he did. The demon had never looked so decidedly un-Kyojuro. Its eyes glowed, its back hunched, claws hanging heavy and dangerous. 

“I know him.” The demon growled. Giyuu readied his sword and looked again at the clearing. This time a pair of orange-yellow eyes peered back at them. 

From beyond the trees Giyuu could see Tanjiro behind the figure, shaking with anger. He was advancing. Kyojuro advanced too. Moonlight hit the orange-eyed demon and illuminated gray skin, blue markings. A shock of bright pink hair....
