November 15, 2005: DreamWorks' Madagascar (2005) is released on DVD and VHS.

This is the second to last DreamWorks Animation film released on VHS and it is the only Madagascar film released on the format.

In addition to the regular bonus features on the DVD, both DVD and VHS releases feature the Penguins short film "A Christmas Caper" and an "I Like To Move It" music video (though some DVD copies only had the music video).

So last night I had a dream that someone found out that the Madagascar lemurs were based on ancient gods - and it was like a historian on Tiktoc that was giving the story. She was like doing a doctoral research project on this one “dead” religion and realized that the Madagascar Lemurs were based around this religion.

And it all centered around who Maurice was gonna marry - Maurice was like a fertility god of sorts.

ANYWAY so mort and Julian both wanted Maurice’s hand in marriage but he was giving to Julian - to give balance. A cycle of death and rebirth - to keep the world balanced.

Julian was the god of death, and mort was the god of greed. And no one wanted the god of greed to have a union with the god of fertility.

So ANYWAY mort swore revenge and was secretly planing to eat the king and capture Maurice to hold for himself

But in meantime he would pretend to worship and adore Julian.

Anyway so the writers admitted that they were practitioners of this religion - and the news media was going crazy because suddenly a whole bunch of kids and teens were starting to say they were part of this religion. And turns out it was NOT dead but like just quite. And there were even hymns retelling the story of how Mort ate king Julian.

And someone said what was wrong with the world now was the union between mort and Maurice had resulted in it being a cycle of Production and Consumption. So basically corporate greed is because Mort is greed and is holding Maurice.

So instead of death and rebirth, it’s production and consumption. And so mort with a 🚫 over him had become the new “down with capitalism” slogan.

Animal of the day: Silky sifaka! (Propithecus candidus) This small primate calls the jungles of northeastern Madagascar home! It is named for its long, soft fur, which gives it the appearance of a little cloud drifting among the trees! These lemurs are variably social, living in groups of two to nine individuals at a time! Males have a brown patch on their chests, and as they get older, both sexes lose pigment in their face, sometimes leading to a rather pink face! Silky sifakas primarily feed on seeds and leaves found in their environment, and very rarely soil as well for the minerals contained within it! Rather unfortunately, however, the silky sifaka is critically endangered, with less than 2,000 left in the world. Best Sequence in the entire Madagascar Franchise and best version of the I like to move it song. I honestly really like the soundtrack of the third Madagascar Movie, Hans Zimmer really nailed it with this score, well he always nails it. Also King Julien has plenty of Screentime in this film, which is always a win.

madagascar was LITERALLY one of my favorite movies as a kid, I have very vivid memories of sleeping over at my grandparents house and they had a little bed for me that they would put RIGHT in front of the TV and I would simply be like two inches away from the screen watching the movie alksdjhflkjshdf
