FLCL for the sort of insanity, sneaky symbolism, and difficulty to follow all the details. It isn't my fave, but if you've never seen it, you have to at least watch it once.

Our Flag Means Death has a lot of that good ol Homestuck queerness, insane characters, batshit antics, and symbolism. Flawless series with two seasons. I have no criticisms.

Train to the End of the World! I mean. It's just so weird. It has all the horrors, action, magical friendships, and poor decision-making that Homestuck illustrates in children. The world is scary. Everyone has their secrets and their mistakes. And what the HELL is happening? The ending is very bland in comparison to the wild ride it takes you on at the start, but if you're okay lowering your expectations, it's a fun watch.

PSO2/PSO2 NGS has some... weirdly specific Homestuckisms. It can't be 100% a coincidence. It's not very Homestuck, but there are symbols and story arcs that seem suspicious. Unrelated, it probably has some of, if not THE best customization options of any MMO apart from body type. You can make nearly anything.

Code Geass (any with Lelouch). Lelouch is a Prince of Heart and you get to kind of see what a completely OP Ultimate Prince of Heart would be like. Highly recommend it just as a character study.

Bokuyaba/The Dangers in My Heart is my favorite romance anime. Ichikawa reminds me a lot of Ult Dirk and Yamada reminds me a lot of artreactor's Jake, especially at the beginning. Over time, Ichikawa grows a lot.

I created a LMK Au just for funsies. A furutistic, high technologic world with cyberpunk vibes! (Because I absolutely love this type of aesthetic)

✦ the picture above is just a quick drawing I did of Macaque in this AU. I will get into details about the AU while showing a few infos of a few LMKs characters alongside with their designs. (Just a reminder I'm still creating the AU and it's my first time making one. It might be a little messy, so I apologize if it gets too messy--)

Oh! And by the way, the characters on this AU follow the same basic formula as the original characters. So it doesnt have much changes, other than the world they live in, their clothes and a few events.

✦ MK, The Monkie Kid

• Its the same thing as our little MK from the animated series, he works at Pigsy's Noodles as a delivery boy, is the Monkey king's biggest fan and is his successor and pretty much the basic stuff.

• He learned about the Monkey king with Mister Tang. He is a huge fan.

• Tho he isn't a great expert, he knows how to how to fix computer cases, machines and vehicles and build stuff by using old pieces (he learned with Pigsy and Sandy, just in case his delivery vehicle breaks in the middle of the road or a something start malfunctioning in the noodle store). As we can see, he works more in the hardware part.

• He likes to collect the old pieces of old devices that people throw away in the city's old graveyard. It's like a type of recycling. (That's also how he find the Monkey king's staff but that is a thing I will tell in details in another day--)

• He loves to draw!!! Hooray!!! He also likes to play games. Is always playing video games with his best friend, Mei, on the arcade or online.

✦ Mei, The White Horse Dragon Girl

• She's a programmer/developer of softwares (Yes I know that in I drawing I said she's a "hacker but a bit clumsy" but actually i wanted to say shes a programmer. I was sleepy, it was 2 am, and my brain wasn't braining 😰😰😰---) with a few knowledge about hardwares. She created her technological helmet system with MK's help. (Her helmet it's similiar to Iron man's helmet from inside.)

• She built her own motorcycle, again with MK's help. She participates a lot motorcycles race just for funsies.

• Loves to play games. I guess I could say she is quite of a professional gamer? She play to win. But when she is playing with MK or with other friends, she doesnt care losing or winning, she only cares about enjoying some quality time with them.

✦ Liu'er Mihou, The Six Eared Macaque.

• Pretty much same as the original Macaque. (Lost his eye in the past with a fight against Sun Wukong. Omg betrayal. Yknow the deal-)

• Here he is a Hacker/Cracker.

"But what is a cracker?" You may ask. Now it's time for my nerd/TI studant side take over. A cracker it's a mean hacker. The cracker breaks/attacks the systems and webs for their own benefit, which it's for illegal purposes. Now a Hacker it's actually a job, which their purpose its to find the security breaches and ways to how break it, so then they can make the security stronger and prevent invasions/attacks at the system.

With that being said, Macaque is a hacker/cracker. So he makes defense systems to himself and breaks into other systems for illegal purposes.

• He got these gloves that helps him hack things better, he created it himself. He create floating holograms like it's a tablet screen and can hold on these holograms using these gloves. With a simple touch he can steal database from a device and hack it's system. (He can hack machines, computers, tech weapons and even the light system.)

• He got his shadow magic too, same as the original one. Shadow clones, shadow portals... but he kinda makes a fusion between his magic and the technology he invented to himself. (Before anyone say it. YES! I got heavily inspired by Sombra from Overwatch. 😔)

✦ The Monkey King, Sun Wukong

• Yeah, the Monkey king. The great sage equal to heaven. The silly who made a havoc on heaven---

• HE GOT THAT HUGE MECHA WE SAW IN THE ANIMATED SERIES BECAUSE HE DOESNT LIKE USING HIS KAIJU FORM !!!

But he doesnt use the mecha much. It has been CENTURIES since he last use it. Now MK is the one who uses it because he is Sun Wukong's successor.

• That's not his "Monkey King" royal clothes. It just some casual/comfy clothes to use in everyday life.

• He already knew who MK was. MK is a stone Monkey just like himself. Wukong have been watching the kid grow up from far. He grow a bit attached to the boy.

Sun Wukong surely wasn't expecting to MK being able to lift his golden staff, so he think in the opportunity to make him his sucessor and teach him how to use his new powers. (Yes, I was lisiting to "the horse and the infant" song. How did you kn--)

Today's (8/23/2024) Episode: Gaming and Goodbyes

As everyone settled down for dinner after Skye aged up, Luigi snagged a seat across from Jade and wasted no time launching into 20 questions. 

"I'm one of the only sims around here who believes in The Watcher" he told her, "other than some real crackpots on the internet anyway." He shuddered. "So, what's it like for you, living under their direct influence? My Papa always said The Watcher could control just about anything but if that's true the one around here has a sick sense of humor!"

He then went on to describe some of the many misfortunes that had befallen him and Noemi in the past.

"Oh…my…that's a lot " was all Jade could think to say when he'd finally wound down. Well, Isra did warn me… she thought before responding.

"I don't think our Watcher controls everything. For example, my mom's friend Summer died quite unexpectedly recently, it was really hard on her. Being a legacy family may mean The Watcher keeps a closer eye on us, but in general more crazy things happen when we're around, not less!" 

"Do you know the legacy family here?" she asked "Isra and Par haven’t heard of one, but I thought The Watcher had favorites in every nation.”

"Well, actually…" Luigi began, before Noemi cut him off. "No. We've never heard anyone even mention a legacy family." she said, glaring at him. 

Jade could tell she'd stepped in something with her question, though she wasn't sure what. Now more ready than ever to extract herself from the awkward conversation she rose "It was nice chatting with you, but I think I'm going to go inside and get out of this heat for awhile."

"Hey! If we’re going inside, I’ll fire up the gaming console and start the real fun.” Rhys said. "Anyone else ready to join us?”

“You know that’s my jam." Luigi stood too, causing Jade to suppress a groan. At least if we’re playing he’ll stop talking so much! she thought.

“My foot has a prior appointment with Darth’s ass," Beau chimed in “Just give me a minute to visit the bathroom for the hundredth time today first." 

After a great session of gaming with the chatty e-sports pros Jade was almost sorry to see them off at the end of the night. “It was great to meet you, kid” Luigi told her. “Sorry about all that doom and gloom earlier. I have a tendency to get wrapped up in myself, but you were a trooper about it, and a pretty good video gamer to boot! If you decide to explore a career in E-Sports look me up, I can introduce you to some people.”

“I’ll do that” Jade fibbed, trying to be nice despite having no interest in becoming a professional nerd herself. “It was nice to meet you too.”

“Luigi, I know you believe yourself to be a legacy heir the same as Jade's sister and mother do, but we both know that isn't a "thing" here." Noemi reminded him once they’d returned home. "I thought we agreed we were going to keep that little piece of Lawbourne lore to ourselves." 

Luigi sighed "I know. I just got so excited meeting someone from another legacy; I got carried away. Thank you for reining me in, as usual."

"Happy to do it" she chuckled “now, how about you get Skye to bed while I get started on my latest side project? This one wants all their phone icons updated to penguins! The things sims come up with to do with technology…"

"Thank you again, so much, for having me. I had a blast!" Jade gushed the following morning. "I've got the pictures we took, the gifts you made for everyone, and your donation for Sims United in my inventory. I'm sure everyone will love them." 

"It was so wonderful to see you again" Wren smiled "I'll be stalking you on social media; I can't wait to see those graduation photos!"

Isra chimed in, “All Elyse wanted to talk about this morning was how much she loved hanging with "silly Auntie J!“, making Jade blush happily.

"I'll be sure to send along any fun kid appropriate memes I find for you to share with my little nieces and nephew.“ After one final hug and kiss she headed towards the teleporter that would take her home, her family watching her retreating back until she blinked out of sight.

Once Jade had disappeared back to her homeland Isra’s quietly weeping par buried their face in her shoulder and whispered, “It was wonderful to see her, but so hard to watch her go.”

“I know” Isra agreed “You want to come home with me and give your grandbabies a snuggle?"

hi, this is a bit of a silly/embarrassing question, but how did you get into tennis/how would you suggest someone new to the sport get into it too? i’ve been watching some olympic tennis but i know there’s so much beyond the olympics when it comes to tennis, so i’m wondering what your thoughts are. find some athletes i like? research some history? i’m curious what you think! i really appreciate it lol

hello!! what a beautiful question anon :) not silly at all and i love to talk about tennis esp with ppl who are not yet fans! this is really really long lol so i’ll put it under a cut

personally i started watching tennis because of my mother, she’s been watching/playing for 30-40 years so it was always on the tv/my mom was playing matches throughout my life. though she tried to get me and my brothers into it as kids i didn’t start caring until absentmindedly watching the past couple of years, with it finally clicking for me in march of this year. sole reason for this was watching carlos alcaraz play and absolutely falling in love with the game.

so for you!! i would of course say the best thing to do is to.. just watch! olympics are a good start because it’s more or less the best possible players (since each country can only send their top players) although the olympics are an interesting case in tennis world because they secretly do not matter at all. but upcoming in the schedule for august/september is two masters (canada, cincinnati) and a slam (us open) so there will be lots to just take in.

beyond simply watching, i would say IF you want to understand the stakes involved, firstly familiarize yourself with:

a) how the game works lol the scoring system is very complicated! also what doubles are

b) the top 10 (or more) players in each league (wta and atp for women and men respectively), just to understand who everyone is since of course they are all contenders in each tournament

c) what each level of tournaments mean (ie, tournaments are ordered from least to most important in the following order: 250, 500, masters 1000, and slam). also, the different surfaces played on. you don’t have to memorize tournaments tho because there are hundreds

to the point of c, while you don’t have to understand the 12 month point system, i personally think it helps to give context to the tournament levels as well as player rankings (basically all u need to know is that you get a certain amount of points per round you make it to, which add up for a 12 month total that determine your ranking).

ultimately everything listed there will come to as you watch just from listening to the commentators (they can be annoying. but they are ultimately helpful).

for favourite players… i have my certified guys of course but ultimately you have to choose those for yourself from watching people play. however (and this helps for learning who is who also) i would also recommend the youtube videos that various organizations put out because those REALLY made me obsess over the sport. both atp tour and wta tennis upload silly little trivia games or challenges or whatever with players and you get to see what everyone is like off court. its fun! but don’t worry about memorizing everyones career history or playing styles or whatever, while it’s useful to know how people are each surface or what their serves are like, this is another thing that just sort of comes to you after a while. favourite players is a vibe based process

history. ah the sport has been around for so long… basically i would say learn who the big three(/four) are: roger federer (swiss. retired in 2022), rafael nadal (spanish. in the midst of retirement but won’t confirm anything), novak djokovic. (serbian. very much active). some people include andy murray (british. retired literally this week omfg) in this group also. these men won basically every single tournament from like 2000-2020 and are considered the greatest tennis players of all time. everyone in the sport grew up watching them and idolizes them. there is SO much lore and rivalry here, you don’t have to know all of it, just know the basic facts because they get brought up a lot and all current players get compared to them in some form.

otherwise: venus and serena. i feel like everyone in the world knows them lol but still. goats!

other history that is absolutely not necessary at all but you asked so here are other people that will get mentioned a lot: maria sharapova, steffi graf, billie jean king (wta). john mcenroe, pete sampras, andre agassi, stefan edberg (atp). but honestly don’t worry about these ppl lol

but basically i think you should just watch matches and see what players particularly grab you. enjoy yourself. everything else i said here is background information that is fun and personally enhances my enjoyment of the game but also means that i take things So seriously now. just see where each player takes you <3

First up is the Ranch itself! A mimic in its final stage of life! They normally become dungeons or haunted houses but this lovely guy had the (mis)fortune to become a familiar with Moon in around the 1700's I'm pretty sure. First up is the Instinctive Family series by Bookwormgal, which i've been following for a long time (one of the few i manage to keep up with while working on stand au) and absolutely adore. part one is set during the games and is focused on axel/lea's developing role in roxas and xions lives. it's canon divergent, and part 2 focuses on lea (and isa) learning how to parent a pair of superpowered teenage toddlers while also managing their own boatloads of Trauma. it's a great read and i can't reccommend it enough.

it's an outside-looking-in OC story where said OC a tendency to adopt every kh kid they come across. and ends up in a throuple with lea and isa. and also there are were-creatures everywhere.

10/22/2024: a little progress!

Using glossika and studying vocabulary through audio, is making some difference! I read the first few pages of the japanese version of Cherry Magic manga (I bought it on Amazon a while back), and the combination of me knowing some words through sound, knowing hanzi, and seeing the furigana (yay furigana!), means I'm figuring out words fairly easily. Only 1 word on the first few pages I did not know (it was all hiragana). I think a year or so ago, maybe even 2 years ago, I tried reading manga and knowing hanzi definitely helped me with guessing word meanings but I needed to see furigana or I wouldn't learn the correct pronunciation. So I think having this listening-basis for words now, I can guess a word now and then check furigana for confirmation and reinforcement. I feel like there's a little less Chinese-pronunciation interference. I did not need to look any words up for understanding, which is a big deal to me, because if I get to a point where I can read manga extensively, that would be an enjoyable way to learn.

Studying through audio like I have been, I tried reading a book again. The ebook was for kids, about a bizarre inventor and it's a silly simple story. I read the first few pages... I needed the TTS, as when I'd hear the words their boundaries made more sense to me, but I knew a decent portion of the words when I did that (most words were hiragana so incomprehensible back when I was using hanzi-knowledge to guess). It was very hard, I'm not ready to read stuff for native speakers lol (except manga for teens with the pictures to help me and dialogue only to slog through lol). But since that task was doable, I am probably ready to use Satori Reader's graded readers whenever.

I found a SaYe audiobook on bilibili! I'll share if anyone's interested. I'm thrilled, as it's read nice. I listened to only 10 minutes of it because I was focusing hard on trying to catch everything, as I KNOW most words in SaYe when reading. It's harder to listen to than to read. I also listened to 30 minutes of a Poyun audiobook. Both of these were somehow easier to follow dialogues (I understood like 95%) and plot (I got the main idea and locations, and in SaYe 70% of details), than when I tried listening to the Intermediate Chinese audiobook ChinesePod101 has in elibraries... I listened to a simple dialogue about missing a train, needing to prepare better, it's appropriate blah blah in that educational material, and had to listen to it 3 times to catch everything even though I already knew all the words in it. Which I guess is a lesson for me that... I need to listen, and re-listen, a LOT more in general to get better instant-recognition of words I know already. Not even for learning new words, but before that to just get BETTER recognition of words I know already from reading. I need to listen so much more... like hours and hours and hourssssss.

I read 1 chapter of some bl romance with an actor main character, I wasn't super into it, extensively read while listening so some listening practice. Learned the word for contract and brand.

I need to play some video games ONLY in japanese again, when I play with japanese audio and english subtitles (or shows with chinese subtitles), I just pay attention to the subtitles too much to practice japanese much. I hear a bit more than usual, picking out words I've studied recently, but I think it'd work out better with no english or chinese as a crutch. For similar reasons, I need more chinese listening with no subs, so either shows with no subs, or audiobooks - the chinese subtitles as a crutch mean I don't practice listening as much.

I will fucking finish Glossika japanese A2 this week. If I can have my way, I'll finish all of Glossika japanese's new sentences this week. Then do that month of review (and then longer, if I wish to practice speaking or reading sentences more). I am finally running into a new word maybe every 3-4 sentences... Hopefully, by the end of this, I will have picked up enough new words to put my vocabulary around 5,000 words.

Note about the way I study audio: it's working very well. Future me, it's worth doing this with Chinese too. I play the audio in the background while working/cleaning/walking/driving/gaming, and if I don't hear every sentence it's fine. I do reviews less often, only if I've gotten through my goal of NEW sentences for the day. Then I do a lot of reviews at the end, once I've gotten through ALL new material. Then keep doing reviews, while also engaging in content in the language (which will also provide some review while practicing recognizing the words and grammar I studied). I do not necessarily think this would work for everyone. And when I initially hear the 5 new sentences per glossika lesson, I prefer to read the screen to see the sentence's written form and mentally pick out all the new words (since I can tell which word is which meaning thanks to hanzi-kanji similarity, and english translation) so I know what meaning I'm thinking with each new part I hear. But even if I don't do that study-slowing initial look through of the sentences, just listening has been going well. I tend to focus on audio when I'm doing other things. I don't know if that's just the way I happen to focus in particular. But even when it plays in the background, I notice a lot of it, and then later in reviews those sentences feel familiar and easier to recall meaning of.

Similarly, when listening to chinese audiobooks, even if I don't pay full attention and play them while painting or drawing, as I listen for more hours I notice I can understand more full sentences of what I'm hearing, rather than just phrase chunks and individual words. So even if I'm not paying attention to the plot fully, it does seem to be helping to LISTEN MORE. There's an improvement over time, even if I'm not paying full attention.

(Vintage) toys I collect include, My Little Pony gen 1-4, Calico Critters, second-hand Precious Moments (because I don't support them lol,) Barbies, Furbies, Muppets, Sesame Street, and more!

As for hobbies, I make digital art, crochet, cross stitch, make Perler bead art, make stuff with air dry clay, repair old toys, and window shop tehe :3 I'd love to learn how to sew.

For "fandomy" interests, I'm currently into Baldurs Gate III, Ghost (band,) Smiling Friends, My Little Pony (gens 1-4,) and definitely more I can't think of. I'm also still super interested in the "classic" fandoms, (such as Sonic, Creepypasta, FNAF,) I just don't talk about them as much anymore. On the topic of games!

As a testament to how far I've apparently come making-wise, I've started toying with the idea of using a 3D system for my games instead of just lame lousy 2D.

In under an hour, I was able to install Blender, model a simple room, export/import it to Godot, add collision and create a simple player with simple movement, and navigate about the room.

All in under an hour.

I think I can do this.

It's not a question of whether I've got the potential to realize my dreams-- it's a question of whether I'll have the willpower to.

Penumbra: Black Plague - This is the second game in the Penumbra trilogy, which I remember being really scary - not least because, unlike the first game, you don't have any weapons with which to defend yourself. The setting is more like a run-down science lab, and the enemies are more zombie-like. There's also the lovely addition of a voice in your head speaking to you, and abrupt hallucinations taking over! There were a couple times I wasn't sure if something I was seeing was an intentional hallucination meant to freak the player out, or just a glitch of some kind. Either way, it was a very effective horror game. Having seen the movie The Thing since playing this game, I'm now convinced they drew on that movie for inspiration for at least one or two things in this game.

The Cluefinders 5th Grade Adventures - I could never quite put my finger on why, but this was always my favorite of the series. In this one, the kids get stranded on a volcanic island with something mysterious going on inside it. They get separated into two groups, and you keep jumping back and forth between them as they try to survive. My favorite quote from this game is: "From all appearances, Owen and I are sequestered in some sort of subterranean chamber with no apparent means of egress." "She means we're stuck underground somewhere."

Max Payne - Ah, not surprised this classic won. While not a personal favorite, and one I actually had to use cheats to beat (because my aim sucks that much >///<), I can definitely see why it was so successful. It's like the James Bond of video games. I remember that I originally decided to play it as "research" into noir for a story I was writing XD I really liked the comic book style they used for getting the story across, and that one part where Max is drugged is something I still think about years later.

Jak II - My favorite installment in the Jak and Daxter series! This was also actually the first one my brother and I played; I don't remember why we didn't start at the beginning, but other than a little bit of confusion at the beginning, it worked out pretty seamlessly. I'm glad we started with this one, because if we'd started with the first one, I'm not sure we would have been invested enough in the story to continue the series. And what a shame that would be! I just love the aesthetic of these games, the silly humor juxtaposed against some truly angsty material, the magic mixed with technology...all of it! I've always found the struggle Jak has with his darker side, and the side effects of his trauma, to be super interesting and compelling to think about, even if they never really did everything I wanted them to do with it. The only downsides to this game, gameplay-wise, are how horrifically frustrating the racing is and how impossible it is to understand anyone talking to you over the comms XD

Pony Island - Oh, I wasn't really expecting people to know this game! This is what I might call "cutesy horror," because the game is all about you playing a broken down, haunted arcade game about a magic pony. I think this game was what made me realize how much I like analog horror. For a game that starts out so fluffy, pink, and cute, it became truly terrifying.

Nox - I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that nobody voted for this obscure gem :( Well, I say gem, but...objectively, it's probably not that great of a game ^^' It's a Diablo clone (I guess? I've never played any of the Diablo games), an isometric action RPG where you play as an average dude from our world who falls into the fantasy world of Nox, and you embark on a quest to save the world from the evil necromancer Hecubah. You can choose to be a Warrior, a Wizard, or a Conjuror (who can use some spells but mainly focuses on charming animals and other creatures to follow him around and help him fight); I've played all three, but my favorite has always been the Conjuror route. The story doesn't make the most sense, the game doesn't really do anything you haven't seen before...but you know what? The world is so immersive. I just want to live there. The voice acting is so much better than it has any right to be. And the music is so good. (Frank Klepacki is so good at what he does <3)

Minit - A cute little indie game with minimalist graphics, where you pick up a sword that curses you to die and be reborn every 60 seconds. That sounds like an impossible way to play a game, huh? How can you manage to do anything if you have to respawn back at a specific location every minute? Surprisingly, it works pretty well. Because the respawning is so quick, it cuts down on the frustration we're often used to from dying in video games. And it really makes you conscious of using that one minute wisely, whether to explore or to pick up objects or talk to people.

Abe's Oddysee - Aww, nobody picked this one :( It's such a unique, interesting game, where you play as a slave on this alien planet run by an evil, oppressive corporation who forces the less technologically-advanced tribes of people to work in their hideous meat-packing factory. You play as Abe, an ordinary worker who decides to escape once he finds out that his own people are going to be chopped up and put in cans next. So he makes his harrowing journey out of the factory, then turns back to save his brethren. The political/ethical commentary is so close to the surface, but made so compelling by the deceptively light-hearted tone the story takes, which draws you in despite the horror inherent in its very premise. I remember seeing a TV spot about this one time in some random hotel somewhere, and from that first glimpse of the opening cutscene, I've been so intrigued and drawn in by the whole franchise. For all the heavy subject matter it deals with, the game itself is just a really fun puzzle platformer, too.

You stare disappointedly at the black wrappings of your bento, sighing because your brother took the wrong one again. Waving goodbye to your friend, you made your way to your brother’s classroom, knocking on the door to get his attention. However, it isn’t your brother who’d stopped laughing mid-conversation. Instead, it’s a familiar-looking platinum haired guy, his purple eyes glimmering with mischief as he slapped your brother’s arm.

“Yo, Yuta, I think someone’s looking for you,” you heard him say.

Meanwhile, you just stood there blankly, your throat growing dry because he was cute – like actually handsome boy-next-door cute.

You’ve met lots of cute guys before, but they were all very immature that you found no interest in others. He, on the other hand, was nothing less of polite, shooting up from his seat because your stupid brother was too invested in his video games. The guy flashed you a bright smile, the beauty of his face up close enhanced that you felt your heart squealing.

Not that you’d ever show that, of course, so you just reciprocated with a polite smile to hide your frantic nerves.

“Hi! You here for Yuta-kun?”

“Y-yes.”

Before he could speak, an arm had shoved him aside. Yuta stood before you, his frown apparent while his friend stayed at the side, a smile still playing on his lips. It took all your energy to not stare at him too much in fear he’d easily read through you.

“Hey, what are you doing here?”

“You swapped lunches with me,” you shoved the black bento box to his chest, stepping closer to your brother to whisper in his ear. “Is that a friend of yours?”

“Yeah, he’s Toge. He used to play with us a lot before he moved away, but his family’s back in town. Don’t you remember him?”

“No…”

“Toge, come here!” he called out to his retreating friend, the guy freezing in his tracks before he jogged up to where you were quickly. Oh crap, you kept gushing, he really was cute. He placed an arm around your brother’s shoulder, nodding at you as a greeting. “Remember my sister? You used to play with her a lot when we were kids. You kept stealing her Barbies, remember?”

“I did?” Toge looked shocked, his back bending into a fake bow. “I’m very sorry for that, but don’t worry, I don’t do that anymore.”

“I don’t play with Barbies at this age!” you defended, heat spreading all over your skin when he winked at you. Both of them laughed at your flushed face, and you crossed your arms on your chest, glaring at your brother. Really though, you were just trying to hide the fact you were very attracted to his friend, even more so now that he was actually familiar. “Stupid Yuta-nii.”

“You’re cute,” Toge randomly piped in.

If you were feeling shy before, you couldn’t speak now.

“Dude, don’t talk about my sister like that,” Yuta gagged, slapping his friend on the chest who effortlessly ducked away, his laughter like music in your ears. You stared at him for who knew how long, his happiness absorbed in your body as you found yourself giggling back. Yuta, on the other hand, wasn’t as impressed, rolling his eyes at his friend before turning to you. “You should go back to class. The bell will ring soon.”

“Okay,” you nodded quietly, hesitating for a moment. Surely it wouldn’t be too weird, right? Deciding to heck with it though, you balled your hands into fists, mustering the courage to look him in the eye as you said, “See you, Toge-senpai.”

He simply shrugged his brows up as a farewell, and just like that, you dashed down the hall so fast you put Quicksilver to shame.

Great. Out of all the days it had to storm, it had to be on the rare moment you forgot your umbrella. Unsurprisingly enough, it was Yuta’s fault for making you forget it. Both of you had slept in too much, but instead of being the responsible older brother, he left you to prepare the meals all by yourself while he spent half an hour fixing his hair. In your haste to arrive on school on time, you’d forgotten to pick up your umbrella, and now the misfortune of it slapped you right on the face.

“Tch, how can I go home?” you glared at no one in particular.

Yuta had to stay behind for baseball practice in the covered court, leaving you all alone to take the bus by yourself. Well, not that it mattered, going home alone was way better than listening to your brother rant about video games and girls he wanted to talk to in class.

Shifting your weight from one foot to another, brows pinched as you mulled on the different ways you could come back home, you came up with two options.

One, run like hell and risk getting sick from this weather, or two, wait for the rain to subside.

But ugh, you wanted to go home already. Before you knew it, you’d unknowingly pouted, arms hugged to yourself while you cursed your stupid brother a hundred times over in your head. Too lost in your own thoughts, you failed to hear humming from behind you, a scream nearly ripping from your lips when someone planted himself beside you.

“Hey, you’re here!”

You gazed up at him wide-eyed, subconsciously stepping away to keep your beating heart at bay. “H-hello, Toge-senpai.”

“Please, just call me Toge,” he offered, opening his umbrella before his eyes landed on you. Probably realizing you were quite helpless, Toge smiled, nudging you to come closer to him. “Hey, I’ll walk you home. You guys still live in the same block?”

“Yeah.”

And so there you were, debating that maybe Yuta’s carelessness wasn’t such a bad thing. After all, if it would lead to your crush taking you home, then you weren’t complaining. Funny how the weather seemed so gloomy, a huge contrast to the sunshine you radiated at the sheer happiness of living out your most romantic fantasies. It was silly, actually, to crush on your brother’s best friend of all people, but Toge was so nice and handsome – it was kind of impossible not to like him.

In the span of two weeks that you’d known him, he’d been nothing but friendly. And no, you weren’t going to admit you started visiting their classroom more often than before, simply because you wanted to get a glimpse of him.

Toge pulled you out of your lovesick trance, his arm landing on your waist before he shifted you beside him. You noticed he was now closer to the road while you were on the safer side of the sidewalk, and god, did he just step closer? He was close enough that your arms brushed with each step, sending a wave of heat that you bit back by tugging your lips with your teeth.

“For warmth,” he explained as if reading your mind, arm raised lazily in a shrug. “Wouldn’t want you to get cold.”

“Thank you,” you muttered, hiding your face under your scarf.

You and Toge were silent the whole time, but it was a silence you adored. Very rarely that you found comfort in silence with others, but with Toge, it felt so easy – so natural. You hadn’t even realized you were already at home, Toge chuckling at your spaced out self. He bid his farewell then, his back facing yours as he walked away when you blurted, “Oh, my parents aren’t home. I think you should stay first to let the rain calm down a bit. You live a little far from school, right?”

Toge looked a little surprised, his eyes shooting up to the sky with a sigh. Inwardly, you were screaming because you just invited him inside, but Toge was already waddling back to you before you could regret it.

“Yeah, thanks for the invitation. I don’t think I should go home in this weather too,” he said, following you across the threshold. He looked around in awe, his shoes left in the front door before he crossed the living room with you, his eyes shining with nostalgia and happiness. “Wow, your place hasn’t changed one bit. I missed being here.”

You flashed him a smile. Turns out it wasn’t that bad – Toge being comfortable made you comfortable. Aside from the nervousness partnered with shyness from having a crush, you applauded yourself for being able to look him in the eye as you asked, “Do you want tea, coffee…?”

“Water is fine. Thanks,” he shrugged off his jacket and placed it behind a chair, chuckling when you nodded too fast. Toge, much to your dismay (or delight?!) trailed behind you in the kitchen, having no business looking that handsome as he leaned against the counter. Him being unaware of his effect on you was even worse, and you bit the inside of your cheeks, trembling as you poured him a glass of water. 

From behind you, Toge snickered, “Why are you so jittery? Do I make you nervous?”

“A-a little.”

“Why? Am I intimidating?” he appeared beside you out of nowhere, so close that you could count his lashes. You leaned back with a muffled squeal, eyes wide at the proximity. Toge, as always, seemed completely unaware of it, taking his time to assess your features with a hand on his chin as if all the answers he was looking for was written all over your face. “Yuta told me I was very easy to approach though.”

“No, it’s not that, I just…” you stuttered, giving in with weak knees and turning your head to the side. Your heart, your poor heart! “Crap, I hate myself.”

“You were saying something?”

“I, uhm, it’s just,” you panicked, mind failing to function now of all times. “I think…I have a crush on you?”

The room fell silent.

Realization dawning on you, you flattened your palms together in a begging motion. Toge merely blinked back at you, and you were so close to just kneeling to the gods to rid yourself of this moment forever. “Please forget everything I said, I’m so sorry! Gosh, Yuta’s going to kill me, forget I said anything, I didn’t mean to be weird.”

“Hey, chill, it’s fine!” he laughed, helping you get up just before you fell in exasperation. Then, he smirked at you, wiggling his brows in the process. “I kind of knew that anyway, to be honest.”

“You do?”

“Yeah, I mean, you asked me to marry you when we were kids,” he informed you, but the memory never played back in your mind. It wasn’t a lie though, you really did ask him that when you were kids. Embarrassment taking hold of you, you groaned behind your palms, feeling like your heart was going to explode every now and then.

“Oh my gosh…”

“It’s okay,” Toge peeled your arms away from your face, his grin nothing less of teasing the moment he’s greeted by your shyness. “I did say yes – let’s just wait after high school, yeah?”
