I spent most of last night drawing Izayoi (mom), and all morning today drawing Tōga (dad). I love their designs so so so much! Sorry it took so long to get to this one, but it was worth it to get to finally draw Inuyasha's parents.

Gemstone Unicorns

These are considered man-made or 'false' unicorns

The perception of if these are good or bad vary from pony to pony

How does one become a Gemstone Unicorn?

A gem will randomly be imbued with a magical essence.

There is no discerning a regular Gemstone from an Imbued Gemstone

Once an Imbued Gemstone is damaged, however, it will shatter entirely. Even if it is only lightly chipped.

Once this happens, the magical essence of the gemstone travels to a new host.

The pony (or creature) picked by the Gemstone has no choice. Once they come near or touch the Gemstone, they suddenly undergo a painful transformation.

Some even see this as a cursed parasite that has now taken hold of their body to house its magic.

What powers are received?

This depends on the type of Gemstone. (See above chart for a simplified starter guide!)

For example, a Quartz could result in some form of healing magic.

A Ruby would be elemental, and give the bearer the power of Fire.

Unlike regular unicorns, these ponies don't automatically get the ability to lift / levitate things. They have to learn it. Similar to how a regular unicorn must study tirelessly to learn strong magical spells, the reverse is true of a Gemstone unicorn.

This can be quite disheartening for Gemstone Unicorns who view their new powers as a curse rather than a blessing.

On the flip side, naturally born unicorns can develop a deep-seated resentment towards Gemstone Unicorns whose new power comes so effortlessly to them.

The power received by the Gemstone Unicorn should be honed for the good of all of Equestria. Be it healing or offensive magic, it should be used for good.

However... this isn't always the case.

Some Gemstone Unicorns flee after receiving their powers.

It is believed a gathering of Gemstone Unicorns exist somewhere beyond the reach of the Rulers of Equestria. Their intentions are unknown.

Can a unicorn become a Gemstone Unicorn?

In short… yes, but it’s extremely rare.

It seems the magical essence in these crystals seeks non-magic wielding hosts. But every case is unique!

Since the case of a Natural / Gemstone Unicorn hybrid is so rare, it’s unknown how their regular magic is affected upon the transformation.

Does just a horn appear upon being transformed?

You can cover your OC in gems ALL over!

Consider how it might affect their movement, I.e. a Pegasus with limited wing ability due to gem placement, an entire limb being turned to crystal, etc

What other species can be turned into Gemstone Unicorns?

Earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi, alicorns…

Hippogriffs, kirin, griffins, changelings, etc… (any species introduced in the show)

Pony-adjacent species such as deers, cows, sheep, etc…

And any custom species!

Ramble down here, where I try to explain the ""lore"" and my design choices:

So as mentioned above, the majority of the Dark Cacao kingdom is actually composed of kirins, mainly because Cacao was already a kirin in my older designs, and I wanted more of his citizens to match him. Maybe I'll draw the other Cacao NPCs mlp-ified and what I headcanon their species to be.

I ultimately decided to give Cacao a mane and replace his long hair with that. Ngl, I was always on the fence about Cacao and Choco's designs, but yeah, I think the mane works better than just getting rid of it. (Old design below).

Btw, I dunno if I wanna give Cacao an actual crown, or just keep the additional horn things the leader of the kirins kinda have.

Dark Choco hasn't changed much, just in a different art style. I do however wanna say that he shaved off his mane out of shame and guilt for coming across the cursed sword not long after his banishment. Maybe when he and Cacao reconcile, he'll start to grow it out again, or maybe he'll keep it that way as a reminder of the past.

I actually drew (more like edited a screenshot) Caramel Arrow before, and she was originally just a pegasus, but honestly, the concept of hybrids and what they entail really intrigued me. I thought it would be fun if she were a hybrid kirin/pegasus.

Also, her horn doesn't exactly function, mainly because there's this headcanon I once came across a post that says faux alicorns do exist in the mlp canon. If you wanna know my full headcanon for this, feel free to shoot an ask, but to keep it short, for faux alicorns, either their wings are under developed, or their horn can't control the frequencies of magic that well or at all. Such is the case for Caramel Arrow. Though she has fully developed wings, she can't control magic with her horn, and if she tries to, it may cause a headache. But besides that, she's all fine and dandy.

Crunchy Chip, hm, I'd say when he was a little filly, he was found in the woods, either by Cacao, or Choco, and his horn was already broken by the time they came across him. When asked, the little guy said he was protecting the cream wolf pups from a monster, but he can't remember what else happened before he fell unconscious. As he grew older, his broken horn didn't really bother him anymore. He's adapted well, and picked up a thing or two about survival from his cream wolf pack.

Also, sidenote, the kirins' scales are actually very hard to dent, meaning their backs are usually safe from attacks. Crunchy once encountered... something when he was out on patrol, and he was out of commission for a week (to his incredible dismay + annoyance) because of how rare serious injuries to the kirins' backs occur.

Ah, Affogato. Actually, I really do like him as a character, I just tend to focus my attention towards the Celestia and Luna coded father-son duo a bit more. Oops. But anyway, I decided to make him a hybrid just like Carrow too, mainly to add both contrast and similarities between them. They're not too different, but their ideals and beliefs clash and cause conflict with one another, I just thought it was fitting. Also decided to give him a more elegant and curved horn design as a nod to his unicorn heritage. Unicorns in the Cacao kingdom (and maybe the Golden Cheese kingdom) have a curved horn, mainly because the east asian coded unicorns in the mlp canon have curved horns too, and I thought they looked beautiful. Affo is someone so elegant and refined in a land that's chaotic and holds danger everywhere.

And that's my unhinged thoughts for now. I think I'll design Licorice and the others next time, but no promises.

Descendants: Rise of Red AUs/Ideas haha

MLP Au and Hazbin/Helluva Au (the latter of which I havent really seen as a series aside from a few clips).

Hazbin/Helluva AU - Queen of Hearts/Bridget - Succubus - Red - Succubus x Imp hybrid - Chloe - Angel/Winner In this AU, Red is a demon from Hell, and Chloe is an angel. Basically, nothing really thought up aside from the designs for this one. Bridget being a Succubus felt fitting cause of the hearts motif.

MLP AU - Red - Griffon - Chloe - Pegasus This AU also has no story/ideas aside from designs. I felt like making Red a griffon cause in the show the griffons often presented themselves as bold yet softies inside. Plus the VKs being non-ponies feels fitting to the lore of the show? (my ideas for the rest would be: Mel/Maleficent (dragon), Evie (changeling), Jay (griffon or minotaur), Carlos (diamond dog), Uma & Uliana (Sirens), Harry/Hook (Hippogriff), Hades (Kirin) & Morgie (changeling or dragon).

Is Dakota a Kirin? (Likely not since idk if that’s a part of mlp lore but it reminded me of it)

Kirins are a part of the mlp lore actually, they show up sometime in season 8 and have a whole episode dedicated to them (I remember this distinctly because younger me loved kirins and I got so excited when I heard they were in mlp lol)

Kirins appear to be a distinct species from dragons and ponies though, having their own abilities such as turning into a Nirik when they get angry. In contrast, Dakota's moreso a direct hybrid of the two and her abilities are a mix of both species. I did, however, take inspo from art of kirins when designing her 👍

Dahlia was a reindeer and deer hybrid, now is a kirin

Dahlia is shrewd, impatient but warm and affectionate with his dorky hipie boyfriend, is a pretty good singer and a malicious flirt.

Riverflow is soft, friendly and a charming shameless flirt. Can be easily found on a beach singing and playing his old ukulele, his mane, hooves and tail are made of water.

This character is very VERY dear to me; as it is the first one I EVER created!

I made her as an MLP Avatar/Ponysona, back when I was around 9 to 10yrs old.

Since then, She's changed species multiple times; She was a Pegasus, a Unicorn, an Alicorn, a cyborg Alicorn, a Dragon-Pony hybrid, etc.

A few years ago (maybe like, half a decade ago, lol) I decided to separate her from MLP.

Now She's got her own story and universe!

She's a Longma, which is a mythological creature from Chinese Culture.

"Longma" translates to Dragon-Horse (Long = Dragon ; Ma = Horse).

Why?

Because I wanted to reference/pay homage to a culture that is oftentimes overlooked by the general public.

I could've made her a Japanese Kirin, but I decided against it, because Japanese culture/media is EVERYWHERE. (Not to say I don't like or appreciate Japanese culture/media, btw).

Another reason for this, is the fact that I just really, really love dragons and horses! (I was and still am a HUGE horse lover, lmao).

But yeah, I hope You guys like her! :D

I looooove all the cool creature designs that G4 introduced. I’m not as familiar with older gens, I know they had dragons and seaponies and breezies (called something else I think) but like??? G4’s griffons, bat ponies, more dragons, more monsters, kirins, hippogriffs, changelings, yaks, etc?? Diversity win, and I especially love when oc creators utilize these designs and even mix them (hybrids) !!!

Starlight x Trixie cause an OC I had matches their designs and would make sense as a next gen for them (also I’m pretty sure they’re going to adopt Cozy Glow cause that makes so much sense to me especially from Starlight)

I have some ideas for a next-gen verse and I hope to eventually post stuff here about it! I’ve posted a few characters so far and have ideas for several others, but there’s still a few more I’ve got to pair up and characters to flesh out.

It would be called the Silververse I think. The “main” character for this idea is actually just an OC (Silver Storm) from an OC family. I kind of like the idea of someone on the outside coming in, kinda like how Twilight was in season 1.

This first point isn’t a headcanon and more of an explanation/disclaimer: For the sake of this AU I got rid of the more egregious actions he has done. This AU may still be dark as fuck but I ain’t touching the in*est/SA/231 bullshit with a ten foot pool, I’ve highly rewritten the Montauk canon traits/events. This is a weird crossover between alternative government found footage-like horror and a kids’ show about pastel ponies for 6-13 year olds, we do not need the doom’s day sex cult doing their weird ass shit. Okay with that said I’ll tone down the swearing and you can read my actual brain ramblings for this fucker.

Khahrahk/Khah is his actual name. People that hate him don’t use it cause well they hate him and people that do like him/work for him also dont use it cause they’d probably just die. You need to be somehow liked and hated by him to refer to him as Khah... which is mostly family.

He’s a weird mix between a Tantabus and kirin. Also part cervidae and part tree. But mostly the first two.

Very Tantabus-like, really only shows up in people’s dreams, thoughts, or like chilling in someone’s peripheral vision.

Not necessarily the embodiment of evil, more of the embodiment of suffering as an concept. He’s still an evil piece of shit.

Memetic pataphysics deity. If ponies think he’s a danger he is if not than not. Currently he’s not, just chilling in people’s subconscious whispering violent intuitive thoughts or poetic nihilism.

Honestly he acts like if Sombra and Tirek raised a child together than most of his canon counterparts. 

I just really really just want him to be the villain that occasional shows up, has a evil but very strange plan and then leaves. Like the weird murderous dolphins that I forgot the number too and have no idea how to find. Just: ‘I evolved a pod of dolphins via my blood/DNA to eat ponies. Why? I dunno I thought it was a good idea at the time.’ 

Taking from Keter Duty: Creepy dad advice for days. This is like 90%  of what he does. Sit down and let him explain a dark topic as if he was a dad explaining something to his son before the big game in a movie.

Still has a breeding problem. No one knows why he has 14+ children and no one wants to ask at this point.

I don’t plan to make these designs so I’ll just say it here: Sanna is a whale siren, A'tivik is a spidery kirin ophiotaurus, A'ghor is a tantabus/shadow pony thingy, A'distat is a fire kelpie, A'zieb is a dragon griffon hybrid, A'nuht is a pre-metamorphosed changeling but somehow more insect-like,  A'tellif is an evil-looking breezie, and A'habbat is just slime. 

Doesn’t have a cutie mark. Well he kinda does just not in this form. Because of his memetic property he only really has one if he gets a physically form and what it is/what it means is just whatever the group of people in that reality would think it would be. 

Carries around a scroll with a list of people that consider him an enemy with the reasons they are. He’ll show you it it like is a trophy.

SCP 2317-K is just the buried corpse of one of his attempts to get into this reality. If all the chains break its just a reanimated corpses of himself that he can’t really control. 

I’m keeping him a cannibal that ate his siblings. Exempt Titania who is his sister and left the library before he got cravings for eldritch chlorophyll.

The ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest 3-D: Entry Roundup

You’ve been patiently waiting for the results of the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest 3-D, and now... you have to wait a bit longer, but at least you’ve got an entry roundup with lots of sketches and a good bit of feedback for all the entrants!  My goal is to get the finalists illustrated in a week or two, and after that, the grand prize winner will be announced.  But, for now, the official entry roundup!  After the cut:

I should note that while I sketched these in the order they were submitted, my scanner saved the documents with random names, so they’re a bit jumbled.  You know, just in case you’re like me and would get confused noticing that it’s almost in chronological order but with some entries jumbled around.

@bugcthulhu’s Obsideban was designed as a counterpart to Rohobaron - the Black King to Rohobaron’s Red King, if you will.  Or, well, Black Queen in this case, as Obsideban also takes her personality from the “delinquent girl” archetype in Japanese media.  Bug’s designs always ooze personality, and I had a lot of fun translating this big, gnarly retrosaur into my own style.

@toothlessloveshiccup‘s Argonox is the first - but far from the last - monster in this breakdown that brings in a bit of fantasy influence to ATOM’s roster.  A golden-fleeced ram with a vicious streak, this sheep is both treasure and dragon at once.  And while it wasn’t written in the monster’s profile, given the Yamaneon-rich nature of its wool, Argonox might be able to replicate the healing power of the golden fleece too!  A very fun mammalian kaiju and excellent entry.

@highly-radioactive-nerd submitted Gunmetal Jeeves, a robot butler who can gigantomax temporarily create a holographic/hard light version of himself to fight kaiju.  That detail was a late revision added to the entry before the contest’s deadline, made after the creator realized that ATOM allows for some truly ludicrous bullshit, which is something everyone should exploit when making entries for this in my opinion.  Also, this is a robot butler who can size shift.  Revel in its awesome absurdity!

Ultranerd submitted Rajasaurus, a dimetrodon-like synapsid kaiju with electric powers.  His origin specifies that the electric powers are a result of the volatile nature of the Yamaneon deposits he mutated under, which is an interesting idea.  That’s another theme that cropped up a lot in this contest’s entries, actually - people really wanted to play with what Yamaneon can do.

Case in point, @polygonfighter’s Yamaneolith takes the Monolith Monsters homage at the heart of Yamaneon even more apparent.  I like the implication that there is a second mineral-based lifeform at the root of this Yamaneon cluster’s anomalous behavior - a parasite, perhaps?  It brings up some interesting possibilities.

@ariccio50 submitted Kukulkuzana, and damn is this a cool spin on the body plan of my martians.  I made a few changes here and there (splitting its tail into two is probably the biggest one), but tried to keep true to the original design, because holy hell is it gorgeous.  The idea that this is a mountain-dwelling creature is really intriguing to me, as it looks like a sea creature, but at the same time, that flexible and low-slung build WOULD work pretty well in mountains, and it’s just the right mix of plausible weirdness that makes for a fun alien design.

@akitymh submitted Aramzados, a Venusian monster that’s basically an organic hot rod car.  I like the idea of organic machinery being the gimmick for Venusian kaiju, and Aramzado’s does it subtly enough to not feel like that gimmick is the sole thing going for it.  I especially love this monster’s stange, apparently mouth-less blade-beaked face.

@virovac submitted Rurzar and Zar Rider, a Beyonder kaiju and mecha (respecitvely) that were both modified and repurposed by humans reverse engineering Beyonder technology to make, like, a motorcycle-saurus essentially.  It is a delightfully absurd concept, and a very, very detailed one (13 pages of description).  There’s a dark undercurrent beneath the sillyness, though, as this pair show that humanity might still be following the same path as the Beyonders before them.

@dinosaurana brings us Krangor, a humanoid monstrosity of living kelp!  The goal here was to create a Jack Kirby-esque monster dude, complete with the gibberish name and all.  He’s also made out of kelp, which feels very classic 1950′s monster-y despite me not being able to think of any monsters that were explicitly made of kelp.  I love him.

@kiryuthechimera submitted Genkakurah, a psychic retrosaur with some draconic features.  Though his substantial powerset is probably the biggest distinguishing feature of this kaiju (given that most ATOM kaiju pretty much have the same standard powers), what really draws me to him is that reptilian pseudo-beard.  It’s just a fun detail!

@glarnboudin submits Tiratola, and see, there’s that fantasy influence again!  Even more explicitly dragon-y than Kraydi, Tiratola still manages to toe the line between sci-fi and fantasy enough to fit ATOM as is while still cementing its ties to my own slice of fantasy fiction.  Man it’s good I’m doing a Midgaheim book next, huh?

@dragonzzilla submitted Scuttlebutt/Argonautilus, a hermit crab kaiju who lives in/with a hollowed out mecha.  That’s a twist I can’t recall ever hearing before, and the idea of a kaiju and a mecha having an equal partnership that doesn’t involve one being grafted to the other is really intriguing to me.  A very unique concept!

@evolutionsvoid submitted Fleagor, an enormous flea who has no idea what to do with itself now that there’s no creature large enough for it to parasitize.  I love that concept - it takes the core idea of the giant bug kaiju archetype (i.e. unsettling the audience by showing how terrifying small, “insignificant” creatures would be if our sizes were reversed) and really turns it on its head.  The name also plays on the Universal Monsters, who were a huge part of 1950′s pop culture thanks to their movies being re-released in that era, so all and all this one is very on brand for ATOM!

@skarmorysilver submitted Lilacorn, another entry that plays up that Midgaheim/ATOM connection.  Reinterpreting the mythological unicorn as an Cenozoic wooly rhinoceros-inspired monster gives it a very unique look, both in ATOM and in the general world of unicorns, and she has a bad-girl with a heart of gold personality to boot!

dracosaurus-rex submitted Florasaura, a two-headed plant/retrosaur hybrid monster.  I love me some plant monsters, I love me some retrosaurs, and I love me some rhyming the word “flora” with other words that contain similar vowell sounds, so this one has me written all over it!

@downtofragglerock submitted Sauroguana, a delightfully odd flying retrosaur.  There’s a great deal of charm to the original illustration that this sketch doesn’t quite capture - it’s a deceptively simple design with a lot of personality in it, and with those unique leg-wings it really doesn’t need a whole lot of frills to stand out.

Draxi submitted Brakan, an unimpressive burrowing retrosaur kaiju whose mastery of illusions allows it to convince other kaiju it’s actually a big, super-powerful badass that’s the ultimate fighter in the universe.  It’s a delightful parody of the concept of a fan self-insert god-mode character, with a really fun story built into it to boot!

@quinnred submitted O.N.I.A.C., a mysterious cocooned kaiju whose chrysalis has been turned into an organic computer of sorts by the people studying it, and seems to possess a fairly advanced intelligence for a kaiju.  It’s a really bizarre and ominous idea, with built in intrigue given how vague its nature is.  Is it just a kaijufied butterfly/moth who got stuck mid transformation?  A relative of the Mothmanuds?  Something else, perhaps equally alien?  Good story potential here.

shadyserpent submitted Vespilitor, a bat/retrosaur hybrid made by the nefarious Spooks Organization.  A mercurial prankster whose tendency to stir up trouble never crosses the line into maliciousness, he’s the kind of monster who would make a great foil to a lot of ATOM’s cast.  I’d especially like to see him in a prank off with Ahuul - it’d be like Bugs Bunny fighting Daffy Duck, but on a kaiju scale.

@multiversefan submitted the Yamaneon King, a nomadic kaiju whose refusal to settle down causes problems as he stirs up trouble at kaiju sanctuaries all over the globe by showing up unannounced and stirring up the locals.  He was basically designed to be a monster that the kaiju sanctuary initiative would struggle to deal with, which is a good idea for a post-ATOM Volume 2 story conflict.

Sir K submitted Jadeera, a kirin kaiju that can actually forcibly convert most of its body to Yamaneon to enter a dormant, statue-like state in a loose homage to King Shisa.  Though the fantasy elements are far more present than I usually prefer for ATOM kaiju, I think it should be noted they’re pushed that far for a purpose - a theme in Jadeera’s entry, which continues where its creator left off with their submission to the previous ATOM create a kaiju contest (Yokaigon), is that the world of kaiju is more complicated and challenging than many are willing to accept, which is a theme in ATOM itself.  Yokaigon’s more supernatural/occult powers are based on the ghost parascience of my setting, which ATOM has delved into a bit (Pathogen being the big example), so it’s not as out of left field as some might think.

@cerothenull​ brings us our final entry (unless some got lost thanks to tumblr’s shitty tagging system), the flying spider Naeranti.  She’s a kaiju spider who uses silk to make complicate hot-air balloons, more or less, and that’s just delightful.  ATOM could always use more spider-monsters, and with a really unique gimmick backing up a wonderfully distinct look, Naeranti is sure to stand out among her fellow giant arachnids.

Well, that’s the roundup!  In a week (or two, depending on how much my hand cramps) we’ll have the five finalists, and sometime after that, the grand prize winner!

There's not really a whole lot to it, plot-wise. There's this village on a huge mountain in Equestria (called Mt. Hope) by the very on-the-nose name of Hope's Peak. It was founded ages ago as like an EPCOT (as in the original idea for EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow, not the theme park) sorta thing to inspire ponykind, but it failed because the forest at the mountain's foot is wild like the Everfree which scared plenty of ponies off. The current mayor is a pony called Sharp Relief (Jin Kirigiri) who headed a project to revamp the place. A bunch of very talented creatures of all sorts started living there and it did become a beacon of hope and harmony!

It's pretty slice of life lore-wise, sort of a Non-Despair/Ultimate Talent Development Plan beat.

Kirinmaru’s creations and possible ones

Riku

Shares the same green eyes as Kirinmaru. (And hair color too?)

Riku has addressed Kirinmaru as his master and called himself a puppet. He mimics his master in many places.

In episode 21, he is clearly shown to behave like a puppet.

At first, I thought Riku was Kirinmaru’s illegitimate son, but he is actually his puppet. It is also shown that Kirinmaru can “see” what Riku sees. Although he can “see” through Riku eyes, he does not know what Riku is thinking. Also, it does not seem like Kirinmaru can always “see” what Riku is doing, otherwise he would have known about his actions. Either that, or he did not mind Riku collecting the pearls.

Kirin

Possibly another creation. The only green I see on him is his tie lol. In episode 23, when Kirin is looking up at the comet and commenting on it, the video transitions to Kirinmaru. Like Riku, Kirinmaru can “see” what Kirin sees.

It is safe to assume that he is one of the puppets or creation as well. Most likely, when he removes his glasses, we will be shown his green eyes. What we do not know is if he is working for Kirinmaru or he is like Riku, doing his own thing.

Dream Butterfly

Kirinmaru tells the trio that the Dream Butterfly will disappear when he disappears. In the same episode, Koton mentions that Kirinmaru has designed it for something.

The Butterfly itself has green eyes like Kirinmaru, Riku and Zero.

It seems like he has no full control over Butterfly too, because Moroha drops this bomb very early into the series that the butterfly has escaped from the dream world and cursed Setsuna (why do you even know this Moroha?)

It is not unreasonable to assume that Kirinmaru can create or possess powers related to the dream world. If the sword created from Toga’s fangs could have other worldly powers, why can Kirinmaru not have powers related to the dream realm. Both are daiyokai.

Zero

They address each other as brothers and sister. They share the same green eye color. But are they really blood related? Zero has butterfly motifs all over her. Even when she had her demonic powers with her, her demon marks were very butterfly-esque. So, she must be a butterfly demon.

My lady moves like a butterfly.

On the other hand, Kirinmaru is implied to be a Qilin demon. He has half his face covered in scales, while the other half has blue stripes. Even in his attire, he has different shoulder plates. Either it is only a design choice like Sesshomaru’s, or it is to signify that he is a hybrid of two demons. His one half is Qilin and if Zero is his real sister, then his other half must be a butterfly. (I know, I do not see it either)

Umm... err... may be a spider??? Or is that his “Qilin” version because I see the tails and that dragon arm.

Anyhoo, if they both are related then either Kirinmaru needs to be part butterfly or Zero needs to be part Qilin.

Or Kirimaru is half Qilin and half spider. Zero is half butterfly and half spider.

(Of course, this is still a possibility)

If they are not related, then it is safe to say that she is another one of Kirinmaru’s creations that he is treating as a family.

Seems like the Dream butterfly was designed after her or she was designed after the Dream butterfly. Until more information is given about the Butterfly, I will assume the former.

The Four Perils

I could be wrong here. There is not much to go with but I think they are Kirinmaru’s creations as well.

First off, they all have horns. Kirinmaru has them in his partial demon form. His cubone mask has it as well. Position wise, they have shown that Kyuki and Konton are much closer to Kirinmaru. They both seem to be aware of Kirinmaru’s plans for Dream Butterfly.

Koton’s human form has a tail like Kirinmaru’s. He parrots the same comments about “tastes” as his master. Kyuki has the same blue demon marks as Kirinmaru. Some of them have “heavenly” elements.

Hello everyone!

First things first, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates and the silence from me. I have a few things to address on that front as well as progress we’ve made over the past few months. Under the cut:

Why so quiet?

The reason for the lack of updates on Mythaura comes down to my own mismanagement of time. Last year had a very demanding full-time creative job with heavy deadlines and occasional overtime. At the time I set aside time for Mythaura after I got home and on the weekends to catch up on Patreon and community things. In hindsight, drawing 9-5 then jumping straight into more drawing and project management wasn’t the healthiest idea. Burnout at that point was inevitable, although I couldn’t see it through the excitement I had for the project. It came to a head a few months ago where I had to make the decision myself to pause Patreon - both monetarily and delivering new updates to existing patrons and posting new development updates here.

I was not clear to the community on what was happening and I buried my head in the sand for awhile, thinking that I would only halt updates for at least a month then get straight back into updates. I did not elaborate on the state of the game and the future and for that I am deeply sorry. I realize the silence from Patreon, Discord and other socials might have been concerning or disappointing to some of you.

The support for Mythaura so far has been nothing short of incredible, I am so thankful for everyone’s pledges, feedback and excitement. It inspires me to do better everyday. Without the passion from the community, it’s obvious the game wouldn’t have gained its legs.

Going forward, I will strive to update everyone more clearly what’s happening on all our social platforms. This has also been a lesson for me in terms of management and workloads. I am committed to making Mythaura the best it can be. To ensure project silence from myself won’t happen again, I will be making a few changes to how updates are delivered and keep Mythaura magic in motion.

So, what’s changing and what does the road ahead look like?

The past Weekly development updates on this blog will now become Bi-weekly. Two to three write ups a month will allow me focus more on the game itself, patron updates and make the write-up here more substantial with new content. An extra week will avoid the last minute scramble to prepare a blog post.

Patreon Tiers adjusted and changed. The “Mythic” $50 tier (Monster design) has been removed - this tier took up a lot of our art resources and time. There is potential for this tier to return in the future however for now patrons will have a chance to have their ideas put into the game via the “Artisan” item $20 tier.

The “Scholar” $10 and above tier has a new reward - an exclusive monthly art postcard mailed to patrons as well as an in-game banner to flaunt your scholarly status. Polls and voting have now been moved from Ally to this tier.

Early sketches and WIPS, coding progress and previews have been moved to the “Archivist” $5 and above tier. Early alpha/beta invite and high quality downloads remains unchanged.

“Ally” $1 Tier has access to patron-only news and in-game Ally banner.

Two new tiers introduced - these offer the same as Ally. These are options for supporters those who wish to donate more than $1 per month.

On alpha/beta invites for Archivist tier: Supporters will NOT lose their invite eligibility if they choose to cancel their month. A record of all emails are kept! Patreon posting schedules. Even though all was quiet on the social front, we have been hard at work.

Last year and the beginning of 2019 was a huge success for Mythaura. Just a quick overview from a distance, we created: 100+ in-game items. 6 New Hybrids and their Young bases. 6 New special markings. 30+ Monsters. Completed the Beast breeding system. Completed Inventory system. Developed robust Admin Content Management system. More secret things!

On the subject of features 👀 Our very own incredibly talented coder, Koafox, has developed what is only the beginning of what is to become your future day-to-day gameplay in Mythaura. The breeding system is in place and has been tested for a number of months. (Apologies for the poor quality gifs due to tumblrs size limits, we’ll have a video up on our youtube channel soon demoing these features.)

Our inventory system is fully responsive and flaunts category options, search bar and sorting options.

And our current development focus: NPC fronted shops featuring Pollis and his Travelling Wagon! (PS: His shop art is still a work-in-progress, don’t mind the sketches!)

The goal is for all the NPCs in Mythaura to feel alive. Each have unique dialogue options, quests and reputation rewards. Pollis’s shop is just one out of the planned nine interactable NPCs in the game world.

In the past we teased some new Hybrids on this blog and Patreon. I’m so pleased to announce that their art is now complete! Meet the tier-three Hybrids!

The Ryu (Quetzal x Kirin) Basilisk (Quetzal x Hippogriff) and Peryton (Kirin x Hippogriff)

These hybrids will be available in our Demo this month!

We’ve also been chipping away at our interactive Marketplace Map. Progress has been made on isometric art tiles and NPC Shop art that the player will see when navigating to their shops. Beast Gear artwork has also commenced! Here’s a quick teaser.. progress on this gear set will be featured on Patreon.

Last but not least, a new Special marking has been created and will be added to the Beast Demo shortly!

Hood adds a solid color to the head of Beasts. It pairs quite well with a combination of different specials!

Another update will be coming to the demo this upcoming week which will reduce the Young base size by about 20%. The reign of the giant babies is no more! I will share another update soon when these additions are live.

I can’t wait to share more with everybody soon! Thanks again for being so patient as I work through the growing pains of a expanding community. The future is bright and immensely exciting.
