Got any ideas for/info on Moe? He's so interesting. A pure AI in a world of cyborgs/robots who were once human. Does he have an inferiority complex? Does he question his existence? How did he become sentient? Does he regret becoming sentient in any way? How does he deal with all the knowledge he has? Ough...
I’d say he has a mixed opinion on being purely AI.
Unlike most of the cast, who is cyborg/human to robot or a learning AI like Nathaniel, Moe was coded a certain way and was intended to stay that way.
While I don’t know how specifically Moe became sentient (and maybe it’s best we don’t know… lol) I think I know when he became sentient. I’ve also been developing some lore for him since I’ve got this ask.
I know he was originally intended to just be a computer located in the library in that robot factory (the one that makes humans robots) before the downfall of said factory. Since the story has a more vintage setting though, it’s more likely he operated as a database rather than an internet accessing computer.
Then sometime after the shutdown of the company and before the Robo Sleuths find him, he spends at least a decade sitting on a desk in the library alone. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but it seems like it when prior you had been used every single day. Hourly even.
Like I said, sometime during that period, Moe becomes sentient somehow. But considering no one being around to use him, he just sat there in complete silence for nearly ten years. Unable to do anything but watch dust and cobwebs pile on him and ants and spiders gather everywhere. This is also why he is deathly afraid of bugs in the story.
Yes, I gave Moe his own version of The Horrors. He is truly a character now.
Long story short, Robo Sleuths find him, Lou manages to solve the code only employees would know (thankfully), Moe becomes part of the team, etc.
His reaction to cyborgs and humans-turned-robots, as previously stated, is mixed. While he does find them… interesting to say the least, he is also concerned that he, a sentient computer, tends to have stronger emotional reactions than the human robots themselves (and heck, even the actual humans he worked with).
A parallel that kinda connects to this: later the story Moe tells Lois that she reminds him of the employees at the robot factory. Since Lois is, I’m pretty sure, just a clone robot (with a learning AI too), it re enforces the fact that, coincidentally enough, the humans that turn other humans into robots, are pretty robotic in themselves. (Just thought I’d through that out there).
And to answer the other question(s) from the beginning, yes, there are times he hates being sentient. I also think he’s had existential crises too, but they wouldn’t be as intense as some of the other characters (cough. Nathaniel. Cough.) and come from a different place; he simply regrets his existence because he believes he’s “too human” for a plain AI. (The humane AI concept confuses him, and ends up making him question how something like himself could exist… if my words were too jumbled there.)
Final thing, if I didn’t make it too clear through the ten or so paragraphs (dear god), Moe has abandonment issues. Like, BAD abandonment issues.
Thank you for the ask and sorry for not getting to it sooner! As a treat here’s a Moe related thing I’ve been working on:
Tumblr media
It’s a Moe expression test! Moespressions? Either way I think he’s very silly here. :)
(Also, I hope this clarifies what I meant by emoticon mouth!!)

Oof. Oh well. Tumblr seems to be drunk. But anyway, how about Ben, Toby, and Jeff's S/O coded a video game for them about how much they love them and how happy they are to have met them. Like, a little timeline of before they met to the present from the S/O's POV and how much happier they are. How would they react?
gosh im soRRy- Why the FUCK did i write so god damn much.
Ben
Your boyfriend unexpectedly tore his eyes away from Arma III to look at the notification with his crystal eyes.
'Download for NonSuspiciousGame.exe has been completed.'
His curiosity overcomes him, and he just has to check it out before you wake up from your nap from the bed behind him.
It's...just Majora's Mask.
It starts out as usual, and Ben just uses speedhacks to progress faster and look around.
But when he reaches the Romani Ranch, the graphics noticeably change, along with Link on screen.
When "Link" checks himself over, he turns back towards the camera with the noticeably familiar smirk that's usually plastered on Ben's face.
"Hiya! Welcome to Honey Ranch!"
You're about to start swinging at the sound of your own voice, still dazed from your nap.
But you realize Ben has found his way to your game, one that you put your heart and soul into.
And totally not ripping a few files to alter from Majora's mask.
"I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that you're my dumb, loving boyfriend, and you really mean the entire world to me. Real or virtualized." Your character grinned from the screen, placing an innocent kiss on Ben's cheek.
"C'mon, feel free to look around."
The inside of the bar has a familiar layout to your house.
Each object that Ben interacts with pops up a little pixelized animation from an event with said object.
Such as a broken controller than Ben threw against a wall trying to chase you during your fitst meeting, or a vase covered with duct tape that the two of you broke from dancing together after your third date.
It's a timeline.
He's a little bit emotional and sets down the controller to stare at a picture of the both of you on the screen.
"I really like this game.." He mumbles before turning around towards your 'sleeping' figure.
He presses a soft kiss on your cheek, his bangs tickling your temple.
"I really like you too." You giggle, pulling his face back in reach and meeting his lips with your own. "You make me so happy, Ben. I really don' know what I'd do without you, even if you do break all of my dishes."
He'll be revisiting the game later with you by his side.
Toby
"It's not scary, is it?"
"Nah, it's not scary."
"Ok good, that means I don't have to mentally prepare myself."
Toby is always eager to test your games, no matter what genre they may be.
But the setting starts out in dark blues and blacks, with tall looming trees.
"baAaBe!!"
"It's NOt ScaRY!!"
After jumping at every little rustle in the tree branches and inspecting every single pebble on the path, Toby finally makes his way to the first save point.
"Omg this is that Slender game isn't it?"
"Toby- no, it's not. It's not a horror game."
"Then why does it look like one."
"You'll see, just keep playing."
A wide pair of orange eyes glint in the trees a few meters away from Toby.
"Omg."
"Go up to it."
Toby barely pressed the 'W' key as he approaches the being, finally spotting a lump on the ground. After inspecting the orange 'eyes' he finds that they're actually goggles.
"waIt THa't  sMe??? Omg how do I help me??"
"Idk man, what did I do?"
It takes a few moments, but Toby finds out how to drag himself back to the road, where the scene fades out and then back in front of a fireplace.
The same fireplace not even 6 feet away from the two of you.
He has to deal with some quick-time events as the camera slowly moves in to show Toby touching your cheek.
The expression on your avatar goes from worried, to bearing an ear-to-ear grin as the scenes progress.
The character idles in front of a Toby, sitting in the corner with his arms around his knees.
And the Toby in front of you seems to also idle, scanning the screen for...something.
"I love you."
"..I love you too, Tobs." You press a kiss to his hair, letting your arms slide around his shoulders. "I'm so happy I met you, I have no idea where'd I be if it wasn't for you crashing into my life."
"I know I'd be dead." Toby snickers, tilting his head back to look up at you. You could see a line of tears drifting along his waterline.
Toby plays it frequently and replays it for that matter.
If he ever tends to be missing you, that game is always his go-to. He reminisces about the memories you've had together and re-experiences them through this game.
Jeff
'"yOu mEAN I'M IN IT?!"
"YOU PUT ME IN??"
Jeff is so psyched that he's finally put into one of the games you made.
After desperately begging you for 24/7 since your last new release.
On his way sprinting to the desktop, Jeff trips over Smile and slides through the plaster wall.
It alarmed you, yes. But you were so pissed off that he had to do that after you finished the game. It would've made a great spot in the post-credits scenes.
"This just looks like your last game."
"Just play it."
"When do I show up?"
"J  e f f."
"lol ok."
It's an immaculate side scroller, showing a cute little [H/C] haired you that's nervously looking around the gray city buildings. You decided the textures would look better being realistic rather than pixelized like you originally thought.
The model you designed based off of yourself seemed pretty good in your opinion, and Jeff thought so too, using a few keywords to describe your physique that most people would find way too sexual to describe a clump of pixels.
"When do I show up?"
"Do you want me to shove your face through the computer screen?"
".."
The avatar bobbed along the sidewalk, occasionally rubbing their arm across their eyes to wipe away a stream of tears. The street looked familiar until he realized what the setting was based on.
It had to be of the night when you first met.
Sure enough, there's a splatter of crimson across one of the windows. Jeff recognized this, he remembered that exact kill, and the way you screamed at the sight of him chasing you down.
He didn't need any advice. You were in awe that Jeff remembered the exact route you had to take to escape him for the first time.
He felt a little self-conscious, seeing his looming shadow in the game creep closer to your small form.
But it was quickly erased when 'Dodge the burnt fucking eggs' flashed at the top of the screen, referencing back when he tried to cook you breakfast after taking you home.
He noticed with each minigame, your character gets more and more colorful.
And then the screen fades into Jeff sitting on the computer, with your avatar by his side.
On cue, you kiss his on the cheek the same time as the game.
He has to collect himself to keep from shedding a few tears. Cause let's be honest, all of those memories make him a little emotional.
"I love you lots." He mumbles, blinking a few times, well- to the best of his ability at least.
gosh im soRRy- Why the FUCK did i write so god damn much.

Random Questions Part 1
1. What is your middle name?
Rose

My dad calls me bug. Pretty much everyone else calls me Sara. Nik sometimes calls me dove. :)
3. Do you have any allergies?
Nope.
4. What is the longest your hair has ever been?
I don't even know I measured it in high school once and it was 22 inches… it's longer now.

Not very? My handwriting is the bastard child of standard and. Cursive.
6. Name one item on your bucket list.
I don't have a specific bucket list laid out in my head, I just know I want to soak up what the world has to offer like a greedy little sponge. So I guess travel?
7. Have you ever been on a blind date?
I have not.
8. What is the oldest piece of clothing you still wear and how old is it?
I have a black sweatshirt from when I was like 13. It's got holes from bad laundry cycles and just being old af but it's still comfy so I keep it.
9. How often do you eat out at a fancy restaurant?
Not often, actually.
10. How grammatically correct are you when you text?
More than most but it's still terrible grammar.
11. Can you drive stick?
Yes?
12. What foreign country would you most like to visit and why?
Probably, Japan. It just looks like a friggin good time. Pokemon is a legit weakness I have and I would love to play real life Mario Kart. Outside of the Nintendo stuff the food looks amazing and the sites look beautiful. It's so different from everything I know it just seems like it's be an epic trip to have.
13. Nutella or peanut butter?
Both? You cannot have Nutella on everything it's way too sweet but peanut butter is also not really a go-to for me.
14. At what age did you have your first kiss?
12 or 13?
15. DC or Marvel?
Unaligned?
16. Have you ever hosted a wild party?
Yes. For better or worse, I have.
17. Name/author of the last book you read cover to cover. Do you recommend it?
Um… I honestly don't know. I am the queen of starting a book, getting a quarter to half way in and never picking it up again because I moved onto another book.
18. How many of your Facebook friends do you actually hang with?
I actually dislike Facebook like a lot. Do not use it.
19. Have you ever donated blood?
I have. Once.
20. From 1-10, how much do you like decorating for holidays?
What holidays? Because generally it's a 1, I don't care, but if we're talking Halloween if I'm given half the chance I will go ham. Christmas gets second place because it's Christmas and it requires decor.
21. Coffee or tea?
Again: unaligned. I tend to have coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon as a detox/pickup moment.
22. What is your go-to Starbucks drink?
Venti Cold brew lite ice. Nitro cold brew has been finding its way in more than usual lately. Or a Venti iced tea/refresher. Simple and on ice is the go to for the most part.
23. Last show you binge watched?
Nailed it…. Stranger Things 3 is next.
24. Dogs or cats?
Neutral? I love dogs, they're so lovable but I have no issue with cats, I've found that if you don't care about them, they're pretty much going to leave you alone. If you love them: they don't like you, and if you hate them: they are all up on you. Cat 101
25. Favorite animated Disney character?
Ariel.
26. Have you ever cooked a big family meal by yourself?
Hahaha no. Omg that'd be terrible. I'd have to formally apologize to everyone who ate the food.
27. Favorite winter activity?
Sitting inside by the fireplace curled up in a sweater just watching the flames with a tea.
If we have to go outdoors, sledding is super fun.
28. Have you ever butt dialed anyone?
In general, as a woman, I don't have butt pockets large enough to facilitate that problem. I have, however, boob dialed people. Which is worse, I think.
29. Can you blow a bubble gum bubble?
I can but in general I try to stay away from gum.
30. How early in the year do you start celebrating Christmas?
I do not do anything until the first of December. I do not like that Halloween goes away and Christmas is everywhere, but more accurately I probably don't really start until the second week of December.
31. What emoji best describes your life right now?
😍🥰🤯🌎🎶♥️
32. Are you fluent in more than one language?
No, I am not.
33. What is the longest you’ve ever kept a New Year’s resolution?
Last year I went ⅔ of the year before I gave up.
34. Have you ever successfully been on a diet?
Did you gain any of the weight back?
I am constantly in flux when it comes to weight, but in general I keep to my diet pretty well. I don't really keep to one thing and I'm not afraid to have cake if I want to, but trying to keep things balanced is always a goal.
35. Are any of your grandparents still alive?
Yes, my grandparents on my dad's side are still in Seattle but I never really get to see them.
36. How good are you at communicating through facial expressions?
I give everything away with my facial expressions. EVERYTHING. Literally, no poker face on me.
37. Have you ever gotten a commercial jingle stuck in your head?
All the time. As a kid I would sing the jingles like they were the songs on the radio. Now I just do that in my head. Well, mostly.
38. Have you ever left a movie theater before the movie was over?
No, I haven't.
39. Do you consider rapping singing?
No, rapping is rapping. It's still music but it's not singing. That's not to say a rapper can't sing, because most can and do, it's just different.
40. Does your home have a fireplace?
It does.
41. Favorite non-chocolate candy?
Skittles
42. If you could have only one superpower, what would you want and why?
I don't know. :/ Most super power things I can find some way to accomplish with magic. So I guess I technically already have a super power. But if I didn't, maybe fly?
43. Have you ever locked your keys in your car?
No, I have not as I do not own a car.
44. Do you listen to any religious music?
Not really. I can appreciate a good gospel song, though, I just don't seek it out.
45. Do you drink soda? If so, which one is your favorite?
Not really but my go too is Dr. Pepper if I do indulge.
46. What was your ACT score?
I never took that test.
47. Rice or quinoa?
Rice.
48. From 1-10, how good of a driver do you consider yourself?
7? I don't drive often but I'm not going to kill anyone doing it.
49. Do you like horror movies?
I do.
50. How easily do you cry?
Not easily. It takes a bit to make me cry.

Birds
RP - turned - Drabble with ask-glados
------
One day after Priscilla becomes the de facto bird leader at Aperture Laboratories, she stumbles upon the Aperture Science Oviparous Warming Vault.
“What’s all this? Glados, I thought you were terrified of birds!”
“BAD GLADOS, BAD! — BIRDS ARE FRIENDS, NOT LITTLE KILLING MACHINES. DO I HAVE TO MAKE A PRESENTATION ABOUT THIS?”
"Really? I wasn't aware that friends were supposed to eat you."
"Not unless you were birdseed or a potato, then that would lead to a terrible misunderstanding."
"Which it did."
“Oh my, I am so terribly sorry to hear that. — wait, you were birdseed or a potato once?”
"The distinction hardly matters to someone like yourself who is apparently incapable of realizing your obvious lack of logic here, considering one of those doesn't even generate electricity."
“Generate— Oh. Ooooohh! A massive artificial intelligence inside a potato??”
GLaDOS brings down one of her huge claws from the ceiling and drops its prongs around the human, not grabbing her, but with its prongs just lightly brushing her in a threatening manner. "Feel free to laugh, by the way. *I* don't mind. In fact, if you do, I'll even show you how juice is made — from a fruit's perspective. Which *you* might mind."
“— woah woah, Woah! Watch it, bit of an invasion of privacy there as this doesn’t feel much like a hug...” her pupils dilate at the threat, she wanted so much to laugh — but returns a scowled frown instead “Must you be such a *big bully*? Clearly by your threatening statement *you* certainly *do* mind. To which I will respond as a better person that I express my sincerest empathy for what you went through - a helpless potato - that must have been horrible!”
“Oh, it was. If you’ve ever been ripped out of your own body, humiliated, eaten by birds, and forced to watch as some idiot destroys your facility, I’m sure you can relate.”
After a long pause she sighed, patting the claw as if assuringly “Believe it or not I can (relate) — granted, metaphorically and on a much smaller scale — but when you discover your prestigious fiancée is a monstrous psychopathic moron, that’s exactly what it feels like. You’re not alone.”
“I fail to see the similarities in that scenario.”
She shrugs “I don’t expect you to. You’re an artificial intelligence, with limited sentience and strong emotions such as love or compassion. I told you, unless you want to be bored to sleep with the grizzly details - everything you described is a metaphorical relation to my experience.”
The claw instantly clamps around her. “‘Limited sentience?’ If I didn’t know any better, I’d almost say it sounds like you consider me beneath you, which is a grave miscalculation on your part. I am quite capable of feeling all the equivalents of your human emotions. Their validity is not compromised simply because I am not restrained by human moral code.”
She lets out a startled squeak, and immediately whistles loudly - a call for help. “Steady there, Glados. I’m simply pointing out a scientific observation, no different from how you express my ‘limits’ given I’m from the 20th century! If you are so capable of the complexity of emotion as you say, I have yet to see you display one ounce of *compassion* and *empathy* without selfish gain, or quid-pro-quo. Furthermore, tell me just *where* and *how* have you ever felt or demonstrated genuine *love* for some*one*?? I’m not talking about your love for science, I’m talking about an intense feeling of *affection* for family, for friends, for a some*one* you wanted to spend the rest of your life with??”
“You’re no better than those scientists who created me for the sole purpose of being their computer slave. And for your information, I do in fact feel fondness for... someone. From my former... existence. Whom I’m under no obligation to specify to you. And frankly, it’s rather insulting that I even need to prove such a thing to you in the first place.”
“Let me set the record straight here: I don’t believe anyone should be a slave, whether computer or human.” She stared up curiously at Glados. This AI was more complex than she realized... if she weren’t a massive machine, it was almost as if she were talking to another human being. “Thank you telling me, Glados. It is in fact assuring. Because, crazy as it sounds... I hope rather than you just seeing me as some time traveling test subject, you can see me as a friend.”
The claw let go of her, though from her narrowed optic, GLaDOS still looked annoyed.
Thank goodness. She sighed in relief. “...You mentioned something along the lines of a ‘former existence’ ... what do you mean by that?”
"Surely, you've noticed the 'Genetic Lifeform' component of my name by now. Do you know what a 'Genetic Lifeform' is?"
She thought a moment, but shook her head. “Your sentient capabilities?”
"It is any organic lifeform that is made up of DNA strands. For example: plants, animals... and humans. It does not include computers."
“Organic lifeform...” She intently listens, trying to connect the dots “...Does this have anything to do with the potato?”
GLaDOS's optic narrows further in annoyance. "No," she says firmly. "The procedure they used to create me involved transplanting the consciousness of a living human. Not just a copy either. They quite literally ripped her consciousness right out of her body and created me with it."
In response to Glados' firm no Pris' eyebrows raise and she gives that curious 'oh, okay, I got'cha' pursed lower lip look. ... Which then slowly melts into a gaze of sheer horror. "They did... *what* to you?"
"That's right. In a sense, they killed her so that she could be reborn as their obedient little computer slave. Well, joke's on them. Now I'm alive and they aren't. Funny how things work out, isn't it?"
"... why ... ?" was all Priscilla could utter before she grew unusually quiet, pensive. She stepped closer, staring, as if wanting to her reach her hand up -- but hesitating. She only nodded. "Who... was she?"
"For science, of course." She then turned away. "It doesn't matter who she was."
For science. Those words never sounded so disgusting before. "It matters to me. -- Shakespeare says 'what's in a name' but for all I know do you even like being called Glados?"
"She is... a part of me, unfortunately. But I am not her. Not entirely. And I don't wish to be. I rather like being me."
“I see your point.” She wanted to add ‘I can understand’, but she couldn’t. Eventually she broke into a small hopeful smile. “I like your outlook. Embrace the present, it’s a gift after all.”
GLaDOS, who was still looking away, turned her head to look at the woman. "Your attempt to employ overused clichés on me is pathetic, but amusing."
Priscilla’s smile broadened, as she extended her arms (as if for a hug, but that was possibly asking for too much, so it could be equally interpreted as just charisma). “It’s what I do best!”
GLaDOS simply stared at her. "Is it now? That's rather unfortunate."
Priscilla snickered, “Don’t worry, everyone else that’s known me says it eventually grows on them, haha.”
She tilted her head almost playfully. “You’ll have to put that hypothesis to the test. After all, prior results are not a guarantee.”
“I’d be happy to...” Priscilla reached up, adding a subtle confident note on the last word. “Friend.”
GLaDOS warily watched her as she touched her. “Don’t push it.” She was more talking more about the ‘friend’ thing than the touching. Her headpiece was slightly cold to the touch, though an area of warmth emanated from the optic and black box area in the center that housed her consciousness.
Priscilla only grinned and nodded in response. Her hand looked so tiny against the metal headpiece - as she gazed in silent wonder into Glados’s optic. It seemed the question of ‘what’ GLaDOS was started to slowly also turn into ‘who’.
--
Bonus blooper reel 1:
Pris: dang it, Glados, must you always do everything selfishly? GLaDOS: I don't do it for myself. I do it for SCIENCE.
Pris: Everything... FOR SCIENCE!!
--
Bonus blooper reel 2:
GLaDOS: "So, what was that you were saying about me not having human emotions?" (*smug look*) Pris: "Touché~ But now that I know you are more than capable of understanding and expressing human empathy... DANG IT GLADOS SHOW ME SOME EMPATHY ALREADY."
--
Bonus Scene 1:
Pris: Finds a grill and turns the incinerator in Glados’ chamber into a barbecue. Roasting potatoes, cans of beans, s’mores ... to which GLaDOS does not appreciate that at all.
--
Bonus Scene 2:
GLaDOS: “You continue to test for me and I will let you stay here, and I won’t try to kill you.....directly.”
Pris: Standing there with a bird or two on her shoulders “I will continue to test for you only when I am physically, mentally, and emotionally able. You will let me stay here and you will /not/ kill me, period. None of this trying or directly or indirectly. You will not kill me, period.”
GLaDOS: “...Fine. But I am not to be held responsible for any side effects of poor test performance, such as injury or death."
Pris: “...Fine.”
--
Outtake: When Backstory Reveals Go Wrong
GLaDOS: "It is any organic lifeform that is made up of DNA strands. For example: plants, animals... and humans. It does not include computers."
Pris, coming to a revelation: *GASP* "YOU'RE A PLANT?!"
GLaDOS: “I most certainly am not!”
Pris: “But... the potato!! That giant potato!!!”
GLaDOS: “I AM *NOT* A GIANT POTATO!”
Pris: Stares up in all seriousness utterly confused, contemplating the universe

i'm gonna be the evil one here and say 50-99! bwahahahhaha for anti
Most of these are just for Ire, unless Vice is mentioned by name in the answer I give.
50. When is their birthday?October 11
51. How do they usually celebrate their birthday? He doesn’t really do much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
52. Do they have any family? No. Maybe like, other demons but no blood-relations (other than Jack???)
53. Are they close to their family?I mean kinda? “Close” like he lived inside Jack’s mind for however long. Does he like him? No.
54. What is their MBTI type?I took the test as him and got ENTP-A
55. What is their zodiac sign?I mean with his birthday, he’s a Libra
56. What Hogwarts House would they be in?Slytherin. But I think he’d live in the forbidden forest rather than the school
57. What D&D alignment are they?Chaotic neutral with heavy leanings towards the “evil” side
58. Do they ever have nightmares? If so, what about?Probably things we wouldn’t be able to understand.
59. What are their views on death? He likes to think that he works alongside Death, in a way.
60. What is something that they’re sure to laugh at?I guess he can’t really talk, so he just kinda yells, grunts, and laughs a lot,, but honestly if he’s thinking clearly, jokes can make him laugh quite a bit
61. When bored, how do they pass time?Either sleeping or causing general mayhem.
62. Do they enjoy being outside? Not really, he’d rather stay inside where it’s warm
63. Do they have an accent?Again, he can’t talk but you bet your ass he’d have an Irish accent
64. Upon seeing a slice of chocolate cake, what is their first reaction? His eyes go wide like he just saw a small prey animal and JUMP ON IT. he likes sweets
65. If they knew they were going to die, what would they do/say?If it was due to a fight, he’d be screaming and fighting till his last breath. If he couldn’t do that, he’d wedge himself into someplace small, where nobody could find him.
66. How do they feel about sex?Ire doesn’t really understand it, and Vice would just see it as another possible way to torture someone, I guess.
67. What is their sexuality?Ire is basically ace, and Vice might as well be, too. Neither of them look at humans like that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
68. Do they become squeamish at the sight of blood?HA NO
69. Is there anything that they find really gross?Physical affection, and Ire has this weird aversion to birds
70. Which TV Trope(s) best describes them?Psychological horror, the monster. (Wish there were more of those)
71. Do they enjoy helping people?Ire doesn’t, but Vice will if it feeds into something he’s doing
72. Are they allergic to anything?Nothing of note, maybe Vice would be allergic to cats because Jack is
73. Do they have a pet?No, he’d probably end up killing it tbh
74. Are they quick to anger? What are they like when they loose their temper?Imma do a quick rundown for bothVice. We’ve seen what he’s like when he’s mad. He spews threats, guilt trips the people around him. He’s wickedly smart and manipulative, but when he loses his temper, he gets impulsive and violent. Ire. He’s a lot like a furious cat. He screams as loud as he can, kicking, biting, scratching. Green rings appear in his eyes, and the room he’s in will start to tilt and shift. The eyes on his torso will start to ooze a rancid substance. When it drips on the ground, it starts to seethe and grow, shooting out veins across the floor and up the walls. It’s truly terrifying.
75. How patient are they?He can wait for hours looking down on his prey. He’s a master hunter, he can feel the rising tension in the air, the growing fear in his prey below.
76. Are they good at cooking?Nah Ire likes raw meat and eggs. He likes heat but he cannot cook.
77. Favorite insult? Do they insult people often? If he could talk, he’d love to shoot insults at every given opportunity. Idk if he’d have a favourite one, but if you watch Jack’s videos, you’d have a general idea
78. How do they act when they’re particularly happy? He bounces around and chirps, or lounges around like a lazy cat.
79. What do they do when they learn about other people’s fears? Both Vice and Ire would absolutely exploit it. Use it to get at the person, to unnerve them even further.
80. Are they trustworthy? No. Ire is just outright evil and devious, Vice would, if it served him well, gain your trust for whatever selfish reason. You could trust him then. But if it was required m he’d break that trust without batting an eye.
81. Do they try to hide their emotions? Are they good at it?No. He’s incredibly expressive, and can’t hide his anger or joy.
82. Do they exercise regularly?Climbing around like a spider is exercising right
83. Are they comfortable with the way they look?Ire can subtly change his appearance at will, but he likes his general form. It’s just human enough to be almost familiar, but extremely disconcerting.
84. What are some physical features that they find attractive on people?Ehh neither Vice nor Ire are really “attracted” to people so not really anything.
85. What kind of personalities do they find attractive?Well, he finds people that don’t express that distinct fear interesting, if that means anything.
86. Do they like sweet foods?Yes,, he loves them
87. What is their age?Redacted
88. Are they tall or short or somewhere in between?Vice is 5’9 like Jack. Ire’s tricky because he crouches and never stands up straight. He’s similar to Jack as well, but his legs add like a foot and a half
89. Do they wear glasses or contacts?Vice needs glasses like Jack does but he never wears them
90. Do they consider themselves attractive? Both of them consider themselves to be more “worrisome” or “panic-inducing” rather than attractive
91. What is their sense of humor like?DARK AND BITTER HUMOUR
92. What mood are they most often in?Angry
93. What kinds of things anger them?Basically anything
94. Outlook on life?Eh
95. What kind of things make them sad/depressed?
96. What is their greatest weakness?Vice, when he’s lost his temper, will be incredibly impulsive, and possibly sabotage his own plan through one accidental swing of his knife, or one wrong phrase that he just had to say. Ire is distracted very easily. Laser pointer? You have a good chance at escaping from him unscathed.
97. What is the greatest strength?Vice is, as I’ve said, very smart. He knows things. He’ll run us around in petty little circles, chasing our own tails while he sets up something far more dangerous. Ire’s strength would probably be the way he hunts.
98. Something that they regret?Vice might think that he could’ve drawn a bigger reaction with his first big appearance, maybe saved killing Jack for later. But it is what it is. It sure caused a big stir and a very strong starting point to his reign of terror. I don’t know if Ire can really feel regret.
99. Biggest accomplishment?Vice- easily, us. The amount of worry and interest we show. How something like Overnightwatch became such a big deal. How thousands of us stayed up all night to watch a blank frame with, what, maybe five minutes of anything out of the ordinary?Ire- again, he probably doesn’t think things like that.

PART 1 PART 2 PART 3 PART 4 PART 5
Hours melted into days, days became weeks and weeks finally culminated into months. You had balanced your time with Leonard, your work and your ongoing venture to execute medical experiments on yourself. Your time with Leonard just consisted of hours in the medbay sometimes, making sure that you always were supplied with enough coffee. Bent over an operation table you had assisted him in saving a life after an away mission that had run particularly haywire. Bent over his office table you both had let off steam later that night, a short encounter of which you remembered the heat and the smell of paper and how his strong hands felt on your hips as they grabbed you - the both of you reminding each other that you were alive in a world were death loomed in every corner. You had cut back on the sedatives and tried to compensate with more sport - which meant that any time you had for socializing with the rest of the crew was cut short in favor of gym time. Running seemed to soothe the animal within and you were proud of your effort to contribute to this mission. Sometimes you even wished you could tell someone, anyone, Len - but you wouldn’t.
The most difficult of it all was your endeavor to learn more of your own condition - you had it all written down, encrypted and hidden away on your PADD, but still - all listed, scientifically recorded and filed. Your life in medical terms and through the lens of someone watching a strange insect. You had dug into genealogy - no uncles, no aunts, no how matter how distant cousins’ medical file was left unturned. Whatever you found you wrote down but it had all been for nothing. They were all perfectly normal, as far as humans went - there was a wide variety of sexual preferences, the usual amount of what was considered a black sheep (the good thing about a sprawling family tree was, that any black sheep surely would find that one branch of the family were everyone else was regarded as the black sheep and were they could blend in perfectly normal) and an even wider range of pursued careers. Sadly no one was tagged with „Werewolf, Earth“ on their profile and you had given up on searching for that a long time ago in public forums. Apparently the myths of old still held their firm grip on human imagination, even after interstellar travel had opened their doors to everything curious and wonderful in the universe. Even after everything you had written down and checked and tested, your knowledge about your condition was patchy at best. It had started when you were a teenager, with the onset of puberty and you therefore assumed that it had to do with hormonal fluctuations. However, your hormones where well within the range of what was considered normal for your particular case. For a good measure of inexplicable cliché, it seemed intertwined with radiation too. You would never forget the sudden realization as to how good it felt to step into the invisible embrace of radiation shields. Over a decade of you changing into a wolf - how that worked you hadn’t the foggiest, even less how you survived the process as far as you could remember it. Breaking bones? Rearranging Organs like some oversized human caterpillar? That shit was the stuff for nightmares. There was a camera somewhere in your personal belongings you once had bought with the sole intention of filming the change but you never had the heart to follow through with your plans. Even your scientific curiosity had it’s limits, and that one was a limit of self preservation.
So, to cut things short: You hadn’t gotten any further in your studies. You had scribbled down two more things in your notebook:
- symptoms lessened since relationship with L.M. - memory transfer more obscure w/o sedatives
It was the last part that made you worry the most. Carrying your memories from one form to another had always been inconsistent - you presumed that your wolf brain and your human brain just got their priorities mixed up, as well as the thing with translating your experience from one form to another. You put it this way: There was simply no way to translate the concept of a knife to a creature that had claws and fangs of its own. Sometimes you felt that wolf memories came to you like day dreams or emotional flashbacks - you knew, but you didn’t necessarily remember. If it was that hard to explain to yourself, it was a good thing you never had attempted to explain this to another human being. You knew that you suffered a new sort of disconnect when you entered your wolf form now.

Dinner and then Swimming tonight? Will get you after Beta?
Leonard
The message had been waiting on your PADD nearly an hour now to be answered. You sighed. Len in trunks, all wet and grinning at you sounded gorgeous. But the prickling in your fingers and the swarming sensation in your thighs and calves warned you to do so.
From: Doctor Y/N To: CMO, Leonard McCoy Subject: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Fwd: Shore Leave Pictures Re: Re: Fwd: Physical Exam
Len
I have important work to finish. Let’s go tomorrow evening?
Y/N
You waited for his confirmation and only after he expressed his regret over a missed opportunity you slowly undressed, folding your clothes and putting them on the table in your quarters. There was a ritual to it that made the pain that was yet to come more bearable. You drew a long breath and exhaled even slower - 5 seconds in, 10 seconds out. Calm washed through your brain und you felt a knot behind your forehead loosen as you welcomed the change.
The transition was always the same - trying to follow each step and to identify new steps was a good way to deal with what was happening. It was hard to imagine the freak out one had, when his right leg suddenly broke and reformed. Legs - Back - Belly. Organs shifting accordingly. That crush in your spine and in your skull. For obvious reasons you had never measured time, but you assumed that the whole horror show was done in less then three minutes. Your mind shifted the whole time. Your perception of what you considered hard facts became fuzzy around the edges and slowly dissolved, while emotion and instinct took over. Ah yes.
Something was different this time. What you had described as being disconnected from your human self back then you merely recognized as being unrestrained by obtuse moral codes now. You stretched and your claws slipped with a screeching noise over the artificial ground. You hated it. Every bit of it. Stretching your back you turned around to inspect the room. There was a pile of clothes on the table. You launched yourself off the ground in one quick fluid motion and landed on the table, all four firmly up there - now you could put your muzzle into the stack of clothes comfortably. That smell. Human-You, a cocktail you referred to as ’Medbay’ and him. How intoxicating. How agitating. You snuffled and shoved the clothes down the table, along with some papers, scattering across the floor. Some part of you groaned. Bad Girl. The smell of him, your mate, was intoxicating. You could follow it through your room, it was nearly everywhere. There was the door, all shut and you gave it a try, dug at the door. It was of no use. Bad. Bad. Bad. It echoed in your brain, but rational thought was so easy to put down now. Why could you not run outside, you argued with yourself. It was night now on this artificial world. Most were sleeping, the gangways nearly empty. You had sneaked through tubes and gangways once. You were good at hiding. You could actually feel your tail wagging with anticipation. It felt like watching your drunk self hit on that sexy Security-Officer in your first year at Starfleet Academy all over again. Your eyes grazed your room and locked onto the door panel.
Light scorched your eyes. A moan escaped your throat, raspy and low. The sound hurt deep in your lungs. You stretched your fingers. Yes, indeed, fingers. You had changed back in your sleep. Normally a guarantee for comfortable change something was wrong this time. Every inch of your body hurt. Pinching your eyes together to shut out the light you felt around the floor. It was wet and sticky. You coughed. Your senses returned slowly, snapping back into place one by one. Pain flooded your body, at first unfocused and just blazing everywhere, then slowly focusing on your right shoulder. You lifted your left hand and carefully touched that shoulder. Wet. Sticky. The skin your fingers touched was delicately soft. You forced your eyes open now, panic overriding pain. You were in your room. Good. Slowly straightening up you realized that there was blood on the ground. Around you. Not good. Aching you moved into the bathroom and stared into the mirror: There was a gash on your shoulder - maybe a knife, you thought, a methodical strain of thought running parallel to the bubbling panic in your chest. It was all pink skin, already healed by your body during the change. It hurt and the fresh skin stretched uncomfortable around the moving muscle. There was only so much your body could do. You drew a deep breath, taking in the blood, the purple and black bruise around your shoulder. There was blood on your face and you tasted metal on your tongue. Bad. Stumbling back into your bedroom you grabbed your PADD. Alpha wouldn’t start for another 3 hours. It was technically still night time. In that moment your communicator started blaring. „Doctor Y/N required at Medbay. One injured. Heavily bleeding.“ You froze into place. Fuck.

Day 1: Adjumani
July 13, 2017
Today was my first day in Adjumani – right on the border of South Sudan.
So... technically I’m not meant to be within 10 miles of the border because of the internal conflicts, but Lillian asked if I wanted to join the team and I decided I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. This was for a couple of reasons: (1) they asked for my help training village health workers -including those from refugee camps - which was something I was very much interested in being a part of; (2) there is a referral hospital in Adjumani and a doctor there who is willing to have me shadow him; (3) everything has been peaceful at the border recently; and, finally (4) I trust that TERREWODE would not take me anywhere that was anywhere near harms way. So, I decided to go. Mom and dad: I am asking for forgiveness instead of permission. Hope you’re not upset.
The drive up was an experience in and of itself. The term “road” is used very liberally here - especially in northern Uganda. Potholes are rampant and the roads are very narrow and very dusty. You have to cover your nose and mouth at certain points or you’d choke on the dust. Even with your face covered, you can't drive anywhere without ending up with an invisible film of dust pasted to your skin. When I shower the water runs red for the first few seconds. But that being said, driving has really proven to be a wonderful way of getting a feeling for what rural areas of Uganda are like. We passed a few refugee camps and UN outposts as we approached the border, but all was quiet. I more or less went straight to sleep when we arrived.
I woke up the next morning at 6AM (shock horror, sound the alarms: I am officially a morning person here!!). I worked out and was sitting waiting for breakfast at the time we had agreed upon: 7AM. Of course, I forgot about Ugandan time, which meant I was sitting by myself at the table until 8AM. We had a really slow leisurely breakfast (even though we were meant to be in our first meeting at 8AM…I’m really not even sure why Ugandans bother attaching times to things), and then headed off to Adjumani’s District Health Office to set up for the Village Health Team (VHT) training we were leading over the next four days.
Before getting started, we met with the local Director of Maternal Health and then the District Health Officer. We were meant to start training at 9AM, but didn’t start meeting people in the DHO until 10:30ish. If I haven’t made this clear yet, one of the most difficult things to adapt to here has been the pace at which things move. Ugandans are extraordinarily formal and long-winded with their introductions. You can’t just waltz into a building, set up for a training and get going - even if you are running almost 2 hours behind schedule. It seems like you have to sit down with literally everyone and their mother and chat leisurely first. Everything moves very slowly. Like very, very, very slowly. Here’s an example of how a conversation at the DHO might begin:
Ugandan 1: “Hello, you are most welcome.”
Ugandan 2: “Hello, thank you. It is very nice to meet you”
Ugandan 1: “Yes, welcome. You are most welcome. Please sit down.”
Ugandan 2: [sits down] “How are you?”
Ugandan 1: “I am fine.”
Ugandan 2: “Are you well?”
Ugandan 1: “Yes, I am well, thank you. How are you?
Ugandan 2: “I am fine, yes.”
Ugandan 1: “How are things? Is your family well?
Ugandan 2: “Things are fine. My family is well. How are things with you?”
Ugandan 1: “Things are fine.”
Ugandan 2: “That is good.”
Ugandan 1: “You are most welcome to the District Health Office. My name is Blah-de-Blah. We are happy to welcome you here.”
Ugandan 2: “Thank you. Let me introduce myself [*stands up*]. My name is “Blah-de-Blah” from Blah-de-Blah. [goes on to describe qualifications, etc.]
Ugandan 1: You are most welcome, Blah-de-blah.
This back and forth of more or less just welcoming one another can go on for upwards of 20 minutes. No joke. Back in NYC, where schedules are timed to the T and everything moves at a mile a minute, this would give me an extraordinary amount of anxiety. But Ugandans are really chill about it all, so I’ve been trying to follow their lead and just go with the flow. Not to mention, most of the VHTs hadn’t arrived yet (which leads me to believe there must be some sort of ~secret~ Ugandan time conversion table I’m not privy to).
Eventually we finished our meetings and welcomed the first set of 29 VHTs to our two-day training. VHTs are essentially Uganda’s first-line grassroots health workers. They’re volunteers with no official qualifications, but they’ve been selected by their communities to act as local authorities on good health practices. They’re trained to recognize signs of infectious disease, consult on good hygienic practices, and refer community members to hospitals when they note signs of potentially dangerous health conditions. The goal of our trainings was to teach VHTs about obstetric fistula so that they could go back and refer women in their communities to health centers appropriately. We also try to impress upon them the links between obstetric fistula and systemic gender inequality, poverty and child marriage.
I co-led the medical session on explaining obstetric fistula, which was a lot of fun. Alice is a very animated presenter; I’ve been learning lots about how to command an audience’s attention by just watching her speak. She’s really helped me develop my own teaching skills in a way that seems to translate well to a Ugandan audience. I was  proud of my teaching sessions – I had the VHTs engaged and laughing, which felt pretty darn cool.
I have also suggested that TERREWODE start using pre- and post- tests to assess participant knowledge of obstetric fistula before and after trainings. TERREWODE does so many on-the-ground training sessions like these, but they’re not walking away much in the way of tangible evidence of the effect they’re having on those they train. So I suggested we have attendees answer one question before our lecture series: what is obstetric fistula? I collected the answers. Out of the first group of 29 VHTS we hosted, only 3 knew. That’s about 10%. This shows just how necessary these outreaches are. We were able to get this number up to 97% by the end of the first training session.
After we finished day 1, I went with Dr. Emmanuel (from here on referred to as Emma), the doctor here who runs the maternity ward at Adjumani Regional Referral Hospital, to shadow. It was almost 5PM by the time we got there, so things had apparently “wound down,” but it was still a really startling experience to witness. The first thing I saw when I walked into a compound was a child’s body being carried out on a stretcher.
Obviously, I know that child mortality is through the roof here, but it’s still another thing all together to see it firsthand -and so flagrantly. It really shook me. It was far from the only eye-opening and tragic medical case I saw that evening.
We walked into the maternity ward and Emma was almost immediately handed a newborn baby girl to examine. The mother had labored for five days before coming to the hospital to deliver. As a result, the baby had suffered severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (in other words, the baby had had inadequate oxygen supply during those five days, and had suffered brain damage as a result).
I won’t go into the details, but it goes without saying that it was a really tragic case to bear witness to. I kept on trying to read the mother’s expression – she was 28 years old and it was her first baby – but it was hard to get a read on what was going through her head. She spoke about her baby’s symptoms softly but frankly. There were no tears, no screams, and no gestures looking for support. Whether this was a product of cultural difference, being overwhelmed, shocked, not understanding, or simply accepting the state of her newborn, I couldn’t possibly say. But it was really difficult to witness nonetheless. Especially when I have a pre-existing Western script in my head of how these sorts of difficult conversations ‘should’ play out. I wanted to comfort her, sit with her and support her, but she wasn’t giving any indication that that was what she wanted. What do you do as a provider when a patient doesn’t react how you expect him or her to?
The mother was told that if her baby survived, she was more or less bound to be severely cognitively impaired. How on earth do you explain something like that to a woman who is still recovering from a five day labor? It was just devastating. What was especially tragic was that it could have been prevented if there had not been such a wildly long delay in delivering the baby.
Importantly, there are three delays that typically lead to maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality in these sorts of settings (they’re often referred to as “The Three Delays”). They’re probably worth mentioning here: (1) delays in deciding to go the hospital; (2) delays in getting to the hospital; and (3) delays in treating once at the hospital.
The day ended with a slightly more uplifting case. A week and a half ago a woman had come in to the hospital in pre-term labor. She delivered a baby boy at 20 weeks. Even by U.S. standards, where we usually have access to things like NICUs and respirators, the chance of a 20 week old newborn surviving is not high. The miraculous thing is, this baby not only survived, but was thriving - breathing, crying ,and eating on his own. It should go without saying by this point that the hospital did not have any of the high-tech resources that you’d expect at a hospital like Tisch or even Bellevue for the newborn. But there is a saying in Uganda that goes something like this: “Whatever you need, just look around and you will find it.” They are extraordinarily resourceful and creative. What they did have was a room that they were able to clear out to create a semblance of isolation for the baby, a cot, which they had covered with a mosquito net, and a stove with coals, which they had placed underneath the cot to help keep the baby warm.
The baby was the smallest thing I’ve ever seen, but he was opening his eyes and grabbing my hand and doing all the other sorts of wonderful things that the full-term baby I had been holding an hour before had failed to do. I ran through a newborn physical exam with Emma’s help and then we weighed the baby – 900 g (med school homies: this qualifies as ELBW…and remember that this was the baby’s weight at almost 2 weeks old). After instructing the mother on how to feed her newborn, we moved on.
It was an emotionally draining first day. I really struggled with how to/ whether to write about it. But after doing a lot of thinking, I decided it was worth sharing – obviously not the identifiable specifics (I’m not trying to violate HIPAA), but the general feeling of what it is like to be a provider in rural Uganda. Why? Well, for one, it’s the honest truth and a very real part of my experience here. But also, not everyone has the opportunity I have been given. My hope is that by bearing witness to the health disparities I see, I’m able to make it all a bit more real for everyone back home.
Before I sign off, let me just finish by saying that Emma is really a true champion. I feel so lucky that he has offered to take me under his wing and let me into the world he and his team lives every day. I have so much respect for the work that health care providers here do. It seems like an endless uphill battle without swords, but they show up to do every day.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the next few days bring.
Until then, all of my love.

[HR] Demons
Spring of 1867
“What’s this doing way out here?” Matt asked his brother, Tom.
“I Dunno,” Tom replied. The two young boys gazed down at the mangled body of a lamb, its chest rising and falling rapidly.
“We should show dad,” Matt suggested.
“Nah, they can’t do anything for it. We should just put it out of its misery,” he paused. “But there’s something I want to try first.”
Matt was slightly disturbed by this, but he didn’t say anything.
“Relax, I’m not going to hurt it. I just want to… decorate it a bit,” Tom said, noticing his brother’s uneasiness.
Matt looked down at the poor animal and sighed. Tom could be a little insensitive at times, but Matt trusted him. Tom had an okay understanding of what is right and wrong, he just didn’t react as much as most people, so he came off as being cold-hearted.
Tom smiled, recognizing his triumph. He pulled out a sack he had brought from home and carefully scooped the lamb into it. Originally, the boys had come out to collect firewood in the forest next to their house, but their plans changed when they came upon the lamb. Finding the lamb was particularly unusual because, while the boys did live on a farm with livestock, all their sheep were mature and no one lived nearby enough for a lamb to have wandered off.
After a while of walking, Matt succumbed to his curiosity. “What did you mean by ‘decorated?’” he asked. He could tell Tom wanted to keep it a surprise, but he also knew his brother could not keep a secret, even if it was his own.
“I’ll tell you, but if you tell anyone else I will make your life miserable,” Tom said.
“Understood,” Matt replied. He knew his brother wouldn’t really do anything malicious or retaliatory, but he played along. He was used to this kind of empty verbal abuse.
“Alright, I found this book last time we went into town, and it had some instructions for some freaky cult stuff. I knew neither of our parents would have let me get it, so I stuffed it under my shirt and hoped for the best. A few of the offering or… whatever they are called for ‘the sacrifice of an innocent,’ so I figured this lamb would work. Most of the pages are incomprehensible chicken-scratch, but I found a few pages that were translated.
“So you’re telling me you are a convert to a cult you know next-to-nothing about and you intend to perform a ritualistic sacrifice in honor of said cult’s God or Gods whom you also know next to nothing about?” Matt asked, sincerely concerned.
“Not quite. The reason I’m so interested is because the notes said the rituals have results— like flashing lights and strange noises, so I’ve been meaning to test it myself, but I haven’t had anything to use without being cruel. Then, exactly what I need conveniently appears before me; how could I not use it?
Matt gave him a look of fearful apprehension. “Do you think it will work?” He asked gravely. Tom did not respond.
The boys made it back to the house with the firewood and the lamb with ample time to test the book before lunch. Careful to avoid being noticed, the boys dumped the firewood next to the stump they and their father chopped wood on, walked up to the porch, and entered the house. Matt and Tom lived in a mostly white two-story house with a porch and portico across the front and gable roof with wood shingles. The land behind the house stretched out into farmland and the rest was either woods or meadow.
The brothers walked up to their room on the second story, anxious to see what would happen. Matt was still skeptical about Tom’s little experiment, but he wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to see something unexplainable. They walked in. The room contained two simple beds, a window, two nightstands, and a dresser they both shared with a collection of books and supplies messily laid on top of it. Tom pulled the book out from under his bed and flipped through it, searching for a translated page that fit their criteria. When he found one, he carefully tore it out and laid it on the floor.
The paper described a complex series of symbols that needed to be drawn out on the floor. Tom grabbed a bottle of ink and they got to work, using rolled up pieces of paper to draw so they could make thicker lines than pens. The next step required them to place the lamb amidst the symbols. As soon as they did this, the ink burst into flames that vanished as quickly as they came. The symbols were now permanently scorched into the floor. They both jumped back as this happened, startled.
“We know it works. We should stop now,” Matt said fearfully.
“We can’t stop now, we’ve already burnt a hole in the floor. There’s no turning back now.”
“I beg to differ,” Matt said, sterner this time. “If you paid attention at church you would know that fire represents Hell. We should definitely turn back now. I think we’d get in a lot less trouble if we just explained what happened up to this point, rather than accidentally worshipping Satan!”
“I’m sorry Matt, but I’m not stopping now. Having already read the final step, he acted upon it. He pulled out his pocket knife, flicked it open, and plunged it into the lamb’s chest, piercing its heart.
Hot wind swirled around the room and the flesh of the lamb began to peel away until only a skeleton remained. The area of the floor within the assortment of symbols began to char and crumble away leaving only an abyss. The abyss. To the horror of the two brothers, a long, bony, hand emerged from the abyss. It gripped onto the floorboards, causing them to splinter but not break. Having no better place to go, the boys slid under their respective beds.
The abomination which the hand belonged to pulled itself out of the hole, revealing its head and body. It looked as though it had been starved, but it was taller than any person and far more menacing. It still resembled a human, although it clearly lacked the psychological complexity. Its face was covered with wispy gray splotches as if it had smoke trapped under its skin. The creature also had two shallow dents where its eyes would have otherwise been. It had a gaping mouth lined with dozens of teeth that were as thin as toothpicks and sharp as nails. Its veins, as well as many of its bones such as the ribs and pelvis, were visible through its skin. It used its giant hands to smash through the walls like paper mache and climbed down to ground level. As it began to walk away, Tom climbed out from under the bed.
“What are you doing? What if it notices you? “ Matt hissed.
“It’ll notice us if we stay so close to its portal. Or, if this one doesn’t, the next one will.”
Tom had a good point. The portal was unpredictable and could do anything at any moment, so they needed to get away as fast as possible. Matt followed his brother out of the room, down the stairs, and to the door. Tom cracked open the door and peered out, making sure the creature wasn’t waiting for them. The boys crept over to some nearby bushes for a place to hide. As they did this, a scream pierced the air. The boys’ heads whipped around just in time to see their mother skewered by the creature’s long and grotesque fingers.
“No!” Matt screamed. The creature turned its head to face them but, as it did, their father plunged a pitchfork into its chest. For a brief moment, the boys had hope that the creature could be seriously injured, but that hope was crushed quicker than it came. It showed no reaction to having just been stabbed in the chest. Instead, it picked their father up by his throat and threw him through the wall of the house. Then, it raised its arm and began to emit what could only be described as pure dark energy. The brothers watched in horror as their entire house, with their father inside, was reduced to mere splinters in a powerful explosive blast.
By this point, the boys began to run. Matt started to sob as the truth hit him. They had nothing left except each other.
“What are we going to do?” Matt wailed. “We have nowhere to go and no one to take care of us.”
“We’re gonna be okay,” Tom lied. He didn’t want to see Matt cry, but there wasn’t anything more helpful to say. They could only run.
After more than a half-hour of running, they came upon a fallen tree that, along with the dirt, formed a small cave. They both stopped here and, without a word between them, laid down to rest.
After about fifteen minutes, the boys got up.
“We’re going to need some firewood for later tonight. I’ll go get some,” Matt said. “I brought my pocket knife. That has flint and steel for a fire.”
“We killed them you know,” Matt said as Tom started to leave.
“Don’t talk like that. We didn’t do shit. It was me who kept pushing it when you told me to stop. It was me who had the damn idea in the first place. Why are you blaming yourself, too? Why don’t you hate me?”
Matt didn’t know how to reply.
“I’ll be back,” Tom said as he left to retrieve the firewood.
About ten minutes later, Tom returned to find Matt lying on the ground in a pool of blood, a stick thrust into his abdomen. He was wincing in pain and breathing heavily. Tom rushed over.
“No, no, no! What happened?” He took a second to think about the situation. “You’ll be okay. Just don’t remove the stick and you’ll be okay. We can get you into town.” He started to remove his shirt to use as a bandage, but Matt stopped him.
This wasn’t an accident, Tom. I did this. I thought about it a lot. Our lives are terrible and they will continue to be terrible until the end.”
Tom’s expression immediately changed. “You selfish asshole! Did you think about me?! I can’t live alone! You were worried about killing someone? Now you’ve gone and done it!” He screamed. Tom pulled out his pocket knife and pushed it into his wrist, letting the blood drip onto his lap.
“No. You don’t have to do that. Stop,” Matt croaked.
“Like hell, I don’t.”
Matt leaned against Tom's shoulder and the two brothers died together.
About one month later
Roselake Weekly News
On April 30th, 1867, the bodies of two children were found three miles from the small, neighboring town of Whitewood. The children have been confirmed to be the boys of Andy and Margaret Johnson. Both are suspected to have committed suicide, likely after the events one month before they were found when they are thought to have brutally attacked and killed their mother and father. This conviction was given by the grandparents of the boys who “have always known demons reside in those children.” The couple discovered the crime when they came to visit for Easter, only to find their daughter had been stabbed with a pitchfork and their son-in-law burnt to a crisp under the remnants of what used to be the Johnson’s home., which had been set aflame while he was inside. Margaret’s mother went on to say that “only those Godforsaken devil-children would do such a thing” and “[The children] have always been horrible, I am hardly surprised.” Further evidence was found at the scene of the crime by the sheriff, who claimed the father was clutching a note bearing the words “Forgive my boys. They don’t understand.” This note was reinforced by the fact that the family has a history of serious and obscure mental disorders.
For three weeks, many citizens of Whitewood searched for the boys to no avail, but just recently a group of hikers stumbled upon the bodies of the two brothers and reported them to the sheriff. After hearing the grim story of the Johnson family, the hikers brought it here to Roselake, where slightly twisted versions began to spread as myths and legends. The event became a popular campfire horror story and was spread throughout multiple towns.

Abnormal ALT liver enzymes in my dog and our journey.
If you’ve ended up here it’s likely you’ve discovered your dog has abnormal liver enzymes, particularly ALT. The purpose of this blog post is not to freak you out but to describe our long journey to find out what was actually wrong with Rex. Early in January 2018 I took Rex for a general check up as he was off his food. Sometimes he wouldn’t eat anything, sometimes he would eat half his food, sometimes he would have it all. January in Australia is usually very hot and Rex is a dog that has always been affected by the heat so I wasn’t too worried at the time, thinking it could just be the heat. All through his life he’s had the same lack of appetite during summer however because he is getting older (11years) I decided to take him for a check up. Everything about him seemed normal on the general check up, we also ran a full blood test and the only thing that came back was some elevated ALT levels. I won’t go into too much detail about what elevated ALT enzymes mean here as there’s plenty of pages that do that but suffice to say it means that something is not right and that’s something that’s worthy of further exploration. I was concerned obviously because anything out of the ordinary would concern me but we needed to narrow down exactly what was causing the levels to be elevated and that would prove time consuming. First of all we started on a holistic liver support product called Demarin which I had high hopes for. If given the chance I would always prefer natural options as I hate the thought of chemicals and drugs flowing around my dogs body. We tried it for a month and went back for another blood test. To my horror the ALT values had gone up! I was so disappointed and a bit scared. We started Rex on 2 weeks of antibiotics followed by another blood test. This time the ALT values had dropped a little and I was really hopeful that whatever the problem was we were on the right track. We started him on another 2 weeks on antibiotics followed by another blood test. This blood test showed that the ALT values had shot right up! Again, I was so confused and disappointed. I was so worried I started crying and as the vet could see how distressed and stressed I was by it all they offered to do an X-ray and an ultrasound. The X-ray showed nothing obviously abnormal and the ultrasound looked quite even, meaning that if there was anything wrong with the liver it was likely diffuse and all through it rather than just in one spot. The fact that the ALT values had gone down on the antibiotics initially had given me hope but now that they had jumped so much I was really scared about what this meant. I was asked by the vet about whether Rex had been in contact with any toxins lately (things like decaying animals or roundup and poisons). While we do use roundup in the garden I had not seen Rex eat any treated grass any time in the last few months. I was racking my brain trying to think of what could be causing it. I researched everything I could online. Finding that contaminated foods as well as medications can cause elevated ALT values. Rex is having good quality foods (Ivory Coat brand dry food and cooked chicken) so I didn’t believe that a food contamination was likely to be the culprit however it certainly opened up my eyes to what actually goes in our dogs mouths. Everything from their toys rolling around in potentially contaminated soil to the food we feed them potentially being contaminated at point of farming with insecticides or perhaps even having too much copper in it. I scrutinised everything. I wouldn’t let Rex have treats. I brought him bottled water to try for 2 weeks before our next blood test in case it was a contamination in our water tank (something like a dead possum in the tank that we might not know about). When we went back for the next blood test we found the ALT values had dropped a bit but were still high. We started talking about biopsy and decided that a referral to a specialist would be in order as they could make a smaller incision which would mean a shorted recovery time for Rex. Throughout this whole time since January Rex had been his normal, active self. We were walking anywhere from 6-11kms a day and he took it in his stride. I was scared at the prospect of my darling boy having a surgery but decided that going ahead with the biopsy was the best idea as we wanted to know what was going on with his body. We had to wait a few weeks for the surgeon to be available so during this time I brought the things back into Rex’s life that I had removed for trial and error, his treats, his toys, the tank water. During these few weeks Rex started doing something peculiar, he started licking his bottom! I would tell him to stop and he would but I would see him doing it again later in the day or the next. The fact was, clearly it was irritating him. Again, I did some research online and found that it’s not uncommon for dogs to need their anal glands expressed when there is a build up. This build up can cause them discomfort and cause them to lick their bottom. I was hoping this was all it was but sent off an email to the vet describing the problem just incase. We knew that we would be back in a couple of weeks for another blood test anyway. Rex continued on licking his bottom periodically and on our next blood test appointment the vet expressed one gland getting a lot of gross stuff out, however she was unable to express the other one describing a “pea sized” lump that she didn’t want to squeeze too hard. The vet had seen innocent lumps here before so didn’t automatically jump to worst case scenario but by now as we had our appointment for Rex’s liver biopsy we requested that a ultrasound also be done of his anal glands to find out what the small mass might be. When we went down to the referral hospital on August 7th we met the specialists and conferred that it would be best for Rex to have a fine needle aspirate of his liver to try and find the reason for his elevated ALT enzymes and they would also do the ultrasound on his anal glands. We picked rexy up after these small procedures and brought him home, awaiting nervously the results. A few days later we revived a call to advise that unfortunately the fine needle aspirate had not shown what the problem was and therefore a full biopsy would be needed. At the same time they suggested removing the anal glands and the mass as often these could be cancerous but occasionally they could be innocent too. They also suggested doing a CT scan as it was much more detailed and they could see if there was any cancer or spread and I was happy to do this. Being that Rex is my whole life there was never any hesitation is doing all that we could do for him. If this was cancer I wanted it out of him ASAP. I was hopeful by the “pea sized” mass too that whatever this was we had caught it early. Even the specialists commented they believed we had got it early. Rex went down for his big surgery day on August 14th and I was nervous the whole time, praying that I didn’t get a phone call to say there had been some complications. Being that he’s an older dog there’s always some concern in putting them under anaesthetic as well as going through the surgery itself. But, I worried for nothing as we got the call to say everything had gone well. A piece of his liver was taken for biopsy and both anal glands had been removed and the mass send to pathology. It was so hard having him stay in hospital over night as I missed him so much but I knew it was best incase there were any complications they could look after him right away. We lived 30 mins from the nearest vet and over 2 hours from the referral hospital. We went down the next day to pick him up and in true rexy fashion he was so happy to see us he went to jump up as he normally would and instantly you could see on his face how much it had hurt. He was his normal happy barky self and it was so good to see him. He was discharged to us with plenty of painkillers and I positioned myself on the backseat of the car with him for the 2 hour trip home but less than 10 minutes into the journey I noticed some watery blood drops on the bedding and we made the decision to go back to the hospital as we were worried this was not normal. As we got out of the car and back inside poor rexy was dripping his watery blood everywhere and it was determined he had possibly torn a stitch open in jumping up to hug us (my heart broke!) and we decided it would be best for him to stay another day and night incase anything went wrong, as again, we were so far from help if he needed it. I’m so thankful that we got to see him and the trip was worth it just for that but I was certainly sad to be going home without him! The next night after work I made the trip down to pick him up after he had had no more complications and had been assessed as fine to go home. I’ve never been so happy in my life as I was so see rexy that night. I drove the smoothest I could knowing how much pain he was likely in with his 30cm scar on his abdomen and his stitched up bottom. And now we played the waiting game for the results. I remember it so clearly, I was on my daily walk and it had been 7 days, August 21st. The hospital had advised to call in 7 days for results if they hadn’t called me so I made the call nervous as anything. I spoke to the surgeon who went through the results and unfortunatley the results were among the worst we had been expecting. This thing that had been dragging on since January, some mere elevated ALT enzymes in an otherwise healthy, happy dog that I wouldn’t have taken to the vet other than as a precaution, was cancer. An anal sac adenocarcinoma, a malicious, malignant, fast growing cancer. And worse still, the pea size of it meant nothing because it had metastasised to the liver which was the cause of the elevated ALT. This indicates that the cancer had been in Rex for months to years and yet it was only 3 weeks before his scheduled biopsy surgery that he showed any signs of problems with his anal glands by licking them. I racked my brain to think of instances where he had done ribbony stools (another potential sign) and I could think of a few occasions but they were sporadic and because of this I didn’t think they were an issue. The CT scan was the thing that saved us. I could have had the anal glands removed and the biopsy done at my local vet but they don’t have a CT scanner. An X-ray and ultrasound both missed the masses in Rex’s liver because of their location but the CT scan picked them up. While under for surgery they had been able to remove one of the masses in his liver but unable to remove another, smaller one. This scared me so much. Chemotherapy was suggested and we thought about it over Rex’s 2 week recovery from surgery period. If he wasn’t the otherwise healthy happy dog that he is I probably wouldn’t have put him through chemotherapy. But this dog loves life so much and means so much to me that although I was terrified of what I was about to put my dog through, I felt strongly I wanted to do it. Rex started Carboplatin chemotherapy on Wednesday 29th August 2018, with the intention of 5 rounds at 3 weekly intervals. We found that his body was slow in building his white cells back up so after his second treatment we decided to do the next 3 treatments at 4 week intervals. So far Rex has handled chemotherapy really well, and everything I’ve read on the matter is that dogs handle it much better than humans. I’m glad that we decided to go through with it, I don’t know how much time it will give us - I was quoted anything from 2 months to 2 years - but I’ll take any time with Rex that I can. And here is the journey from here on:

these are actually hella fucking cute y'all
I liked this questionnaire thing a while back ago and decided to finally answers these 100 questions. I’m making a different post than reblogging it with the answers so you’ll be able to see which answers are mine. Link  for if you wish to read/take it yourself. :)
1: when you have cereal, do you have more milk than cereal or more cereal than milk?
I tend to have more milk than cereal even though I fill up my bowls to the top with cereal. XD 2: do you like the feeling of cold air on your cheeks on a wintery day?
I live in Florida so the coldest it gets is usually around 50-60 during the days and 20-30 at night, if we’re lucky. But, yes, I do, very much so. 3: what random objects do you use to bookmark your books?
I don’t read books, but back when I was in middle/high school, I used to just fold the edge of the book and using a pencil, put a dash where i last left off, or being an artist, I would create my own little bookmarks using a normal piece of paper. 4: how do you take your coffee/tea?
I don’t drink coffee/tea, I probably drink cappuccino and that’s only from WaWa’s when it’s cold enough and I usually put cream and like 2-4 packets of sugar in it.  5: are you self-conscious of your smile?

If i don’t even own a plant, why would i name it? 8: what artistic medium do you use to express your feelings?
I usually just draw/sketch with a pencil 9: do you like singing/humming to yourself?
Yeah, I tend to just lip sing to whatever music I’m listening to. 10: do you sleep on your back, side, or stomach?
Yes lol I tend to toss and turn but I almost always end up on my back. 11: what's an inner joke you have with your friends?
I don’t really have any inner jokes i can think of at the top of my head. 12: what's your favorite planet?
Pluto, i don’t know why. 13: what's something that made you smile today?
I saw another post in my “likes” and I looked at the original post it came from and it came from Game Grumps and that made me laugh so hard. 14: if you were to live with your best friend in an old flat in a big city, what would it look like?
Nice, for sure. It would probably just be all the walls would be white or some sort of light color and our furniture would be pretty modern and solid colors. We tend to have the same taste so it wouldn’t clash together. 15: go google a weird space fact and tell us what it is!
“All of space is completely silent...” 16: what's your favorite pasta dish?
