I mean. The reason I stopped trying to fully engage with the trolley problem? Is that I fundamentally can't believe that there are only two possible outcomes. Intellectually, I know that sometimes the possibilities are limited, and it's feasible that the only possible action to affect the outcome would be pulling a lever (or failing to do so). But trying to imagine the scenario, I just imagine myself desperately looking for a third possibility until it's too late. How do I know I can't go save that person? How do we know there's nothing else present to help the trolley stop, or flip it off the track by putting the lever in between? Only what I've been told by an unknown source that I haven't had time to verify.
And honestly, very few crises are so fast-moving that you can't take time to evaluate whether you've been appraised correctly of all the possibilities! How many cop shootings happen because the cop didn't see an alternative besides "shoot the suspect" and "risk everyone else"? How many of those shootings are valid cost/benefit analyses and how many are the result of fear and tunnel vision?
This isn't me changing the subject - it's similar to a longstanding version of the problem!
Suppose that a judge or magistrate is faced with rioters demanding that a culprit be found for a certain crime and threatening otherwise to take their own bloody revenge on a particular section of the community. The real culprit being unknown, the judge sees himself as able to prevent the bloodshed only by framing some innocent person and having him executed.
Abstracting away the emotional impact of bearing responsibility for a human death - that's a vital skill if you're in a position of peril, where everyone can't be saved, or enough power that (again) everyone can't be saved and some WILL suffer harm. But it's a skill I've never needed, and I've given up trying to develop it solely for the case of a hypothetical with an obvious intellectual answer. (I'd be open to trolley problem variants where the intellectual answer is tricky enough that just trying to figure it out would let me abstract everything away.)
The root of my frustration with a lot of trolley problem discourse is that 'What does it mean to act ethically in a world where shitty luck and the actions of strangers you'll never meet have left you without any purely good options?' is, like, possibly one of the most relevant and universally applicable questions moral philosophy might help answer.
Saying it's a bad question because it's the negligent trolley engineer's fault literally exactly misses the point - yes how to deal on a personal level with systems and infrastructure that designed without much care for human collateral damage is an incredibly useful thing to think about!
#for the record i've never blamed the question for anything but its limited options and absolute certainty thereof#which is unfair of me because it's not impossible for something like that to crop up in reality#but it's not something i've ever faced or expect to#the hard choices are usually realizing that people won't just [whatever]#and [obvious simple solution] is incompatible with human nature#e.g. trolley problem & me

SHY LITTLE THING
pairing: nicholas a. chavez x black!fem!reader
summary: nicholas tests to see how quiet you can really be for him after he catches you reading an erotica.
contains: based on this request, short blurb, 18+ content mdni, college au, smut, fingering, squirting, mention of female masturbation, cum eating/sucking, risk kink, public sex, praise, degradation, swearing
taglist: @greengoblinswifey @thabiddie23 @hopefully-saturn @jkr820 @hoffmansgirl @austeenbootler @niteskysx @sabrinasopposite @thabiddie23 @hnch33rios @xoxoglittergossip @supaprettyg @motherismotheringggg @oscarisaackissmykitty @simply-lovley44 @elitesanjisimp @gxuxhdjdu @venic-bxtch @stargirl-mayaa
“shhh…y’know you gotta be quiet, don’t you?”
the man beside you whispered in such a demanding, but coaxing tone as his large, two fingers slowly slide along the dampness of your entrance that was still clothed behind your black, lace panties. you held back a moan, yearning for his touch, but still not wanting to get caught.
you’d never thought you’d find yourself in this type of situation. you’d never thought the sensual experiences you’d read in the filthy eroticas you possessed would become a reality as the school’s heartthrob, nicholas alexander chavez, had successfully seduced you within the smallest corner of the semi-crowded campus library. he was just supposed to be your study partner, but there was no denial that in all of the prior occasions of you crossing paths with him that the sexual tension between you wasn’t palpable. his lingering gaze, grazing fingers across your skin, and his close proximity to your body whenever he was close by were obvious signals of his desires. you tried to deny all you could because you were uncertain that you were ever his type. he was part of the scholarly, yet popular crowd, so of course he had girls flocking around him. you were just as studious as he was, but you kept to yourself in your own little box just trying to get your degree without any complications.
nicholas knew that you loved to read in your free time. when you’d meet to study, he’d encourage you to accompany him to a campus party whenever you’d feel comfortable of course. he just wanted to see you out of your comfort zone—maybe even see you move in a sexy, red number on the dance floor, but for you, he was patient in his persistence because you always gave him this response,
“i’ll think about it, nick.”
the weekly meet-ups for studying started to become less about academics and more about getting to know each other as people. nicholas being the social butterfly he is would ask you personal questions such as,
“i don’t wanna come off as pushy, but do you have a boyfriend?”
you hastily shook your head in response,
“it’s no worries and—no, i don’t. guys at this school don’t really look at me that way. i mean, look at me.” you confess with a shrug of your shoulders, a soft nervous chuckle emitting from your full, glossed lips. nicholas could only carefully examine your entire figure with his intense, brown gaze.
“i am—and they’re fucking blind.” he blatantly stated and smirked at your surprised, speechless reaction.
that’s when nicholas started his flirtatious behavior around you, getting you flustered every time. you were both in the library studying late for midterms, you were trying to quiz him on a question about a theory that was from the study guide only to look up to see his eyes never pulled away from you.
“nicholas? are you listening to me?” you inquire, the brown skin of your face heating the longer he held his stare.
“mhm, m’listening.” he responds before proceeding to answer the question correctly. his fingers softly guide your chin to face him when you try to go back to your book. he leans in slowly to whisper as his lips were mere centimeters from touching your own,
“here’s a theory i want to test—i believe you’d have the softest, most kissable lips than any girl i’ve ever met. would it be okay with you if i tested that, doll?”
that was the first of many acceptances to his advances which got more intense with every encounter. nicholas loved to hear any type of sound that came from you. he thought there was no way in hell that someone as enchanting as you wasn’t getting what she rightly deserved:
pleasure.
which now brings you to this moment of him teasing you after he caught you in the corner indulging in a filthy paragraph of one your erotica novels. you were embarrassed beyond belief, thinking that he would see you as this creep reading such things in public. what you didn’t expect was his reaction,
“you have no idea how hot that is—so, that’s what turns you on, yeah?”
he took the opportunity to sit beside you on the floor, the fabric of his jeans grazing the bare skin of your leg. you instinctively clench your thighs because you were already aroused from the content you were reading, now with nicholas close by, he was adding fuel to the fire. you confessed that you started reading this genre ever since your freshman year, it was your own guilty pleasure. at these words, nicholas had one burning question,
“do you—touch yourself when you read that?” he asked, his lustful, curious eyes peering down at the book within your grasp. you weren’t sure what it would lead to, but you ended up confirming with a deliberate nod,
“yeah, i do. it must be nice to have some experience.” you trail off, your eyes shifting from his lips before quickly looking back into his eyes.
nicholas raised a brow in piqued interest, a smirk playing on his handsome face.
“would you like to know that experience?”
it wasn’t long before you gave in to your desires when you took his face within your grasp, desperately planting your lips on his in such a fervent manner. you try to keep quiet as he kisses your neck while his hand slides under your black top, fingers intruding into your bra to firmly grasp onto your breasts.
“go on, keep reading.” he’d murmur, now trailing his hand from your chest down to the warm, brown skin of your thigh. the higher his hand travels, the wider your legs start to spread to ensure him access to a place no one, but you has dared to go to. it’s ironic that the character you’re reading about was about to receive the same treatment from her lover as you were from nicholas.
“fuck, baby, you’re soaked.” nicholas whispered, the tips of his fingers caressing your slit through your panties. “m’bout to get these out the way, you good with that?” he inquired in your ear, you don’t make a sound, but give him a nod to signal your consent. your legs were propped and your knees slightly bended as he started to pull your panties away from you. nicholas softly cursed in satisfaction when he saw the long, clear string of your arousal appear the further he pulled until they were at your ankles. he didn’t waste time when he brought the rough pad of his thumb to caress pressured circles on your clit. your breath hitches within your chest as you try to keep quiet while focusing on the page.
“look at you, reading that filth while you’re letting me touch you like this—you’re not as innocent as i thought you were.”
god, he was making this so much harder than it has to be. his voice alone was like sex itself. you try to lean to your head back against the bookshelf behind you.
“oh, no, baby, keep reading f’me.” nicholas softly demanded, deeming you ready enough to effortlessly slip a finger inside of you while his thumb was still working on your clit. he briefly praised at how tight and warm you were for him, driving your desire for him to be more intense than before. your shaky hands turn the page and your breathing starts to get ragged as he now has two fingers performing a scissoring motion deep inside of you. due to your silence, you could only hear the soft sound of squelching that emitted from your sex as people carried on with their casual conversations unbeknownst to the unholy act that was occurring in the corner of the library. you start to buck your hips as his fingers increase in tempo, you want to cry out each time they hit the spot that even you couldn’t reach when you attempted to do so in the past. nicholas had noticed the your yearning to make a sound, still with the rush of not getting caught he had a solution.
“you’re being a such good girl—you gonna cum soon, yeah?” with a rapid nod, you don’t hesitate to grab him by the shoulders to silence every lewd sound you wanted to make into his mouth. as his tongue skillfully caressed around yours, your walls grew tighter around his fingers as the heat within your abdomen grew stronger. nicholas made sure to hit that spot repeatedly while making all sorts of shapes on your sensitive bundle of nerves as you drew closer,
“go ahead, beautiful. cum f’me.” he coaxed after pulling away from the kiss, not stopping his movements as you coated his digits and your inner thighs with your slick when he took you to your climax. your mouth was wide open, but no sound dared to come out. nicholas pulled his fingers out of you, leaving you to feel empty from the loss of his touch. he put his glistening index within his mouth to silently indulge in the taste of your nectar, you observed as he hummed in contentment before he guided his middle towards your lips,
“c’mon, i bet you never tasted yourself. trust me, you’ll love it.”
he was right, you never went that far, but for nicholas, you were ready to explore the uncharted territories of pleasure in which you were happy to follow his lead. your hands grasped onto his wrist, taking both fingers in your mouth to suckle off the rest, your eyes dare not to leave his amused, yet intrigued gaze.
and to think that you were just a shy little thing.

Love that you’ve opened requests for Finnick!
Would you write for finnick x reader established relationship? but Peeta and Katniss think it’s all for show (kind of how Finnick saw them originally)
during the 75th games overnight as the poison fog comes through reader gets swallowed up and they loose sight of her, but have to keep moving. Of course they loose Mags, and maybe the canon goes off (for another tribute) and finnick is tangibly heartbroken thinking it’s her.
The next day she wanders onto the beach with Johanna and the rest, having survived by hiding in the waterways.
Lovely happy ending lovers reunion moment💘
thanks for your request! I've had this more or less done for a few days but I'm not sure how I feel about it...hopefully I did an okay job, but I figured I might as well post it. thanks to @unstablereader for parsing this out with me <3
Finnick Odair x victor!reader during the 75th Hunger Games [1.4k words]
CW: fem!reader, blood rain, mention of death, reader goes into a bit of shock, Finnick handles it expertly, Johanna being the problematic queen that she is
Finnick tried really hard not to act as petulant as he felt, but between his stress, his grief, and the fucking heat, he was sure he was failing in his feat.
“She’s probably fine, yeah?” Peeta (stupidly) tried, shooting a nervous glance between Finnick who was brooding near the water's edge and Katniss who was pouting near the tree line. “She won her own games; she can hold her own.”
“I just don’t understand what the point of having a look-out was if you were going to lose an entire woman.” Finnick finally shouts then, holding his hands out in front of him helplessly.
“The point of a look-out was to look out for threats, not babysit your girlfriend.” Katniss all but sneered in return.
“Oh? And what exactly do you call what I’ve been doing for you and your husband these past few days then, hm?”
“I don’t need nor did I ask to be babysat!”
“Well, someone smarter than you begged to differ, yeah? I’m inclined to agree.” Finnick spat before making to stand.
“...nanny of the year award after this…” Finnick muttered to himself as he stalked back up to the tree line to get another drink of water. He’d been sick with worry after hearing a second canon after they lost Mags in the fog, and there’d been no signs of you since. He thought he might actually call the whole plan off if your face lit up the sky tonight.
The sound of trees rustling and a grunt had all three tributes standing at the ready with their weapons drawn, watching the tree line and waiting for the cause of the noise to show itself.
“Oh Johanna…” the unmistakable sound of your (rather disappointed) voice rang out. “Be nice to her.”
Johanna let out a frustrated shriek as they watched her appear from the trees and all but shove what looked to be Wiress towards the water.
“Yes! Yes! We all know, Nuts! Tick tock, tick tock. Get to the water!”
“Johanna!” You barked.
Finnick’s lips formed your name before he was rushing across the beach to you; barely sparing a moment to look you over before his trident was dropped into the sand, freeing his arms to loop around your middle and lift you into the air.
“Fucking finally,” Johanna sighed in obvious relief as she finally pushed Wiress into the saltwater, “someone with a vocabulary of more than four words.”
“Beetee and I have a vocabulary of more than five words…” You replied, though your argument was someone lost in Finnick’s chest where he had your face shielded.
“Unless you plan on offing her, Odair, you might want to let your girlfriend breathe.” Johanna called.
“Babe what the fuck?” He hissed as he pulled you away from him, only then registering the fact that you were covered head to toe in…blood? “What the fuck!?”
“Before you get mad; it’s not my blood, and look who I found!” You placated quickly, gesturing to the three tributes you’d shown up with.
“What were you thinking, Y/N!?” He asked you then, shaking you gently by the shoulders. “What happened!?”
“I’m sorry!” You nearly keened, looking very contrite. “I was just so thirsty and so I figured while everyone slept I’d go look for water. I heard what sounded like rain so I went running, and the next thing I knew I couldn’t see a damn thing!”
“She didn’t so much as find us as she actually slammed directly into Nuts over here.” Johanna translated for Finnick.
“Sorry Wiress.” You offered the woman sheepishly who simply waved as she continued her little clock song in turn.
“What happened to all of you?” Peeta asked then, suddenly directly behind Finnick and alerting him to the fact that all of you were covered in the crimson mess.
“What happened, Mellark,” Johanna hissed as she made to stalk over, completely ignoring the way Katniss’ bow was locked and loaded and pointing at her in the very next second, “was that your darling wife wanted Nuts and Bolts over here, so what did I do? I got her Nuts and Bolts! Then this one had the brilliant idea of wandering off when she was supposed to be with you idiots, and the three of you - fearsome victors that you are - let her! And where’s my thanks, huh? Who’s running through the sand to come find me?”
Finnick had the decency to offer her a guilty look, but she offered him an unimpressed smirk and fluttered her eyes in a half eye roll before she turned her glare back towards District Twelve’s lovebirds.
“Couldn’t even celebrate the rain and finally having access to water because it was fucking blood!” She continued, now directing her ire to the sky.
“It rained blood?” Peeta murmured quietly then.
“So much blood...” You answered solemnly; hair cracking when you nodded due to the semi-dried substance coating it as you stared unseeingly at the trees with a haunted expression on your face.
“Let’s get you washed off then, hm?” Finnick asked as he directed you towards the waters edge, though he kept Johanna’s eye contact as he said it.
“Oh, I’m sure you’re just dying to see what I look like underneath all of this, Odair.”
“Nothing we haven’t already seen, right Peeta?” Finnick tried for levity as he shot the kid a wink, only for Katniss to scowl and elbow him in the ribs.
Finnick didn’t miss the way you shivered as you got into the water which concerned him seeing as the water was hardly cool enough to be of any relief in this scorching heat.
“Peeta! Can you bring us water, please?”
“You guys have water!?” Johanna screeched.
“Katniss, can you bring some water to Johanna?” Finnick heard Peeta ask, earning him a petulant “do I have to?” in return.
“She brought you Wiress and Beetee.” Peeta countered, causing his girlfriend - wife? - to glower before doing what she was asked.
“You doing okay, lovely girl?” Finnick asked as he massaged some of the dried blood from your body, keeping his voice calm even though your sluggish movements and the lack of colour in your lips was causing him great concern.
“I’m kind of cold, Finn.” You slurred.
“Cold?” Peeta asked incredulously as he showed up with one of Mags’ woven baskets filled with water.
Finnick hummed in response as he accepted the water from him, holding it up to your lips as he helped you take a drink. “I think she might be in shock.” He explained evenly.
“She’s in shock? What do we do?” He started, words speeding up as he directed his concern at you.
“Well, we’re going to start with not doing that.” Finnick muttered in reference to his quickly mounting panic. “She’s alright, right honey?”
You hummed in agreement, though you were looking at Finnick with a furrow in your brows.
“You’re alright.” He repeated, both for your benefit and his own. “I’ve got you now, yeah? We’re okay when we’re together.”
Tears quickly pooled in your eyes before they escaped the corners of your eyes, painting a rather macabre picture through the blood still stuck to your face.
“M’sorry, Finn.”
“Don’t be sorry, Y/N.” Finnick murmured, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Just stay with me, okay? No more wandering off; I need you here with me.”
“I’m here.” You murmured, arm rising slowly to trail a finger over the bridge of his nose. “I’m here.”
“Told you it was real.” Peeta muttered to Katniss then, an inelegant snort from Johanna startling both of them when they realized she was out of the water and standing at their side.
“The two of you really are dumber than you look.” She taunted.
“I’ll take the first watch.” Finnick shouted before any infighting could start, shooting Katniss a halfhearted glare. “Everybody else rest up.”
“Can I stay up with you, Finnick?” You murmured, still looking rather dazed as you half floated in the salty water in Finnick’s arms.
You’d probably be the first to fall asleep, but Finnick didn’t bother telling you that. He simply agreed, pressing another kiss to your head before he continued washing you off.

cw: comfort, minimal hurt. implied break/break-up with retained feelings on both sides.
Midoriya is nothing if not persistent, and you have to hand it to him, he knows exactly how to pinpoint the soft center of your very heart.
(Alternatively, perhaps all of it is soft for him, much to your chagrin, but that’s an issue to settle in due time.)
You can see from the inside of your apartment that he is standing at the front door, an overly ornate boxed and ribboned cake in his hands, and notably still clad in his hero suit, rocking back and forth slowly on his heels as he waits for you to open the door. He must have just gotten off patrol, you figure, as it is close to ten p.m. but in just a little over 2 hours, it will be Christmas and he should be at home with family, or perhaps someone that he loves, not here at your doorstep making another desperate bid for attention.
You didn’t expect to see anyone tonight.
Exhausted from your own late shift, you’d immediately changed into pajamas, deciding that tomorrow’s hotpot dinner with Class 1A and a call to your family overseas would be as much Christmas as you would allow yourself to have. Your home is barely decorated, a simple wreath on the outside of your door being the limit of your effort for cheer (although the few scattered gifts in the corner of your living room from friends may add an extra element of festivity despite your best efforts, or lack thereof). By no means are you a Grinch, but Izuku must have the wrong door and wrong set of expectations.
He knocks again and you watch, deciding how believable it would be for you to pretend to go to bed. As you contemplate, you can see him pull out his phone and text, and you aren’t exactly surprised when your phone vibrates a few moments later, but you are surprised by the message.
Merry Christmas! If you don’t open the door, I’ll just leave the cake out for you, but I think it would taste even better if we shared it.
He knows you’re wide awake. You open the door quickly, your cheeks hot with embarrassment, but he’s unsurprised, smiling widely at you.
“Hey.”
His generous smile makes your stomach turn.
“Why are you here, Midoriya?”
His smile doesn’t flicker in the least; rather, it widens.
“I wanted to see you. Can I come in?”
You’ve already let him in naturally, so it’s almost patronizing that he asks. You follow him inside, watching him take his shoes off at the genkan before asking any more questions, and he quickly deposits the cake at the kitchen table, before looking back at you.
Your arms are crossed over your oversized T-shirt, just as wrinkled as the cotton shorts that peek underneath. Izuku considers for a moment that perhaps he is overstepping and frowns.
“Were you going to bed?”
You shake your head no. “You look like you’re coming right off the street, is everything okay?”
Izuku nods. “Perfect. I thought if I got home and changed first I’d be here too late, and I’ve been holding onto this bad boy since the bakery closed at 6pm so I thought my luck was about to run out.”
You glance at the strawberry sponge cake that looks somehow still pristine through the clear packaging and wonder if he just had a really uneventful night or he just took a special amount of attention to making sure nothing came to harm it.
The idea of him holding it close to his chest makes you scrunch your face.
“Christmas Eve is for dates.”
Izuku’s emerald-like eyes are bright and hopeful as he agrees, as if you’re stating the obvious.
“Yeah. I’m thinking I came to the right place.”
Despite yourself, you bite your lower lip, the warmth in your cheeks now spreading to your ears. Unable to look at him any longer, you go to your cupboard and search for forks and plates. He makes his way to the kitchen sink as you fumble around to wash his hands, grabbing a few napkins on his way back to the table.
Izuku thanks you as you slice equal pieces for the two of you then waits, expectantly, until you bring the first bite to your lips before he does so himself. There’s something about the way that he watches your lips move that has you feeling a little too seen, but some of that has always been his natural superpower, quirkless or not.
Observation. Knowing you as if he could sense your soul, and responding accordingly.
“Is it good?” he asks, as you take another eager bite, and you nod.
“Amazing,” you admit, and he beams, smiling from ear to ear. You expect him to give you details of where he got it or how but he chooses to say nothing instead, allowing you space to speak first.
You keep quiet as you eat at first, but find yourself looking at him a little too long, fixating on the way his suit spandex fits a little too snugly at the shoulders these days, and how thick his bicep is for the simple act of lifting a fork to his mouth. You consider for a moment that perhaps you should simply do it for him, but dispel that thought with a bit of shame.
You’re supposed to be playing hard to get, even if the fact of the matter is that you’ve been gotten, long ago perhaps even.
How long will you continue to do this? He’s already told you he’ll do anything he can to win your heart back, even if it’s barely his fault he lost it in the first place.
You cut yourself another slice.
“Izuku, I still need more time,” you finally admit in a small voice. Izuku doesn’t look up from his cake slice, and you can tell this time it’s because he is still somewhat upset by your words, but he hums in assent.
“I understand.”
There’s the smallest waver in his voice that makes your heart wrench, even if it’s just for a moment.
The strawberry slices in every bite sweeten the bitter taste in your mouth regardless, and perhaps the truth is you’ll never truly know how to conceive of his name in your mouth as anything other than the finest sugar.
“Izuku…” you whisper again.
He looks at you directly in the eyes this time, warm and attentive. You’re reminded of the first time he told you he loved you, then the second, then the third, then more.
You set your plate down and come around the table, and as if he knows - he always knows - he pulls back his chair, and you find yourself settling into his lap, your arms around his neck.
Perhaps by time, you meant a matter of seconds.
Your head tilts upwards and your lips meet, and he tastes like Christmas cake and love.
“I need more time,” you repeat again, between kisses. His arms hold you tightly around your waist, and he nods, lids heavy with desire as he waits for you to continue.
“... so can you please stay the night?”

I'd never expected this.
I sat at the dining table my dwarf neighbor had built for me when I first moved to the swamp. A warm ceramic mug of tea between my large clawed hands was another gift from a neighbor.
The weather was miserable; pouring rain in white sheets and cold enough to fog breath.
Inside my stone hut, it was warm, dry, and cozy.
My sister sat across from me. She'd been engulfed by the massive wool blanket I'd wrapped her in. The mug was nearly too big and heavy for her to lift, so to avoid spilling, she rested it on the table and tilted it to sip. She'd lost all dignity at this point. In fact, she'd lost everything, or so she claimed.
Water dripped from her hair.
"How about you start from the beginning?" I asked, my voice low and rumbling.
Arabella flinched. Her small, soft voice was still hoarse from her trip through the torrential rain to my soggy domicile of exile. Probably the farthest she'd ever traveled, let alone unaccompanied. I was surprised she'd made it here without more mishap than a torn and muddy dress. "Father... is a liar," she said.
I nodded. "Yes. But I'm sure you didn't come here to tell me the obvious."
Arabella flinched again, lowering her head. "I'm sorry."
That was unexpected.
I sipped my tea. I'd learned how to make a few simple brews from the witch of the forest. In exchange, I gave her some of the meat I caught and scared off hunters that got too close to our part of the woods. Her face was hideous, but she was old, and who was I to judge?
Arabella's face twisted. "He promised that if you took the curse for the family that the rest of us would be fine. But Kyle has... He's turned to stone! Mother is sprouting feathers! Father is the only one untouched--but I know he's made a bargain. Everyone else in exchange for his life!"
I leaned my elbow on the table, chin resting in my palm. "Ah... Arabella, I've learned a few things while out here, so let me fill you in."
Her eyes lifted, wide and shining.
"The curse is permanent." I lifted a finger, releasing my mug to do so. "The curse requires consent. If you don't consent, it doesn't work. So Kyle agreed to take it on. Monica--"
"Mother."
"Monica. Agreed to turn into a chicken."
"Harpy."
My lips curved. "Ah--" I barely stopped myself from laughing.
Arabella's jaw clenched. She looked down.
"So unless you agree to take his curse... nothing can be done."
"But Kyle! He's only thirteen!"
"Oh. Wow..." I mused. I hadn't realized it had been that long. "Well, sorry. But it's like sex. Once the deed is done, you can't undo it. He agreed." I briefly wondered if our parents had even told him that he had an older sister. Probably not. Not that it mattered now anyway. Kyle was as good as dead... unless.
"Is there nothing that can be done?" Arabella screamed, her voice giving out at the end even though she'd slammed to her feet. It was hardly impressive since jumping out of the chair made her lose eight inches of height.
"Well... The Bog Hag said that curses are a lot like locks, and any lock can be picked. You just have to figure out the locking mechanism."
Arabella's eyes widened. "Like True Love's Kiss?" she asked.
"A fae demented enough to continue making deals with Allen in exchange for his family wouldn't pick something so cute."
"Father," Arabella corrected automatically, then looked down as she carefully climbed back into the chair. "What do you mean continue?"
"Loki, as he likes to be called, told me that I was taking on Allen's debt," I said with a shrug. "This leads me to believe that Allen has asked for more favors, which has incurred more debt."
"That..." her voice faded, expression changing to one of someone putting the pieces together.
"So I'm guessing the family has had quite a bit of fortune lately?" I asked, picking up my mug to finish my tea. I stood, careful not to knock anything with my tail as I went to the stove to refill my mug.
"Please help me..." Arabella asked.
I looked over my shoulder at her. "Why should I? I'm happy here."
"But you're..."
"A monster?" I grinned. "I feel more myself than I ever did in Allen's house. You can't tell me it was easy to get here with your ribs wrapped in steel and legs bound by cloth." I set my mug on the table and leaned over her, a hand on the back of the chair she sat in. "Tell me, Arabella. Were Madam Wretched's dancing lessons fun? Were Mister Wrathful's tutoring sessions enjoyable?"
My sister swallowed. She wanted to correct me on Wreath and Willson's names, but she didn't.
"Did you jump for joy when they assigned a knight to watch you day and night so you couldn't have a moment of silence without his resentful sighs interrupting?"
She flinched, hunching down in the wool blanket. "It wasn't all bad..."
"One thing," I challenged, lifting a claw near her face. "Name one thing."
Arabella opened her mouth, then closed it. She was struggling.
"All the food. All of it looked and smelled so delicious, but you weren't allowed a morsel," I offered.
She grit her teeth.
"The garden you weren't allowed in without a wide hat, parasol, and six men carrying a tent over you at all times."
"Stop..." she begged, hands covering her face.
"The man you were ordered to marry who looks like a slime and mud golem had a child," I finished.
She choked.
I put my hand on her back, gently rubbing. "Go ahead and laugh."
Arabella sobbed, laughing and crying at the same time. I knelt and put my arms around her. She gripped my thick neck, her tiny hands buried in my wild red mane. "You're right!" she admitted, voice muffled by my shoulder. "But how did you know about him?"
"People from town sometimes go to the Bog Hag for help with... problems."
"His personality is even worse than his face!"
"I could tell by the sneer they gave him in the newspaper."
Arabella sat back, wiping her face with her fingers.
I looked up at her with a sigh. "I'm still your sister," I said, resigned. She'd only been four when I was cursed, after all. She had been my little shadow, and... being thirteen at the time, I'd found her to be very annoying. Now, she was sixteen. If I'd looked up the definition of the word Princess, her picture would've been there; blonde, blue-eyed, petite, weak, soft-spoken...
Arabella stared down at me and swallowed as her eyes searched my face. "Please help me... get revenge."
My lips curled, revealing the sharp teeth my curse had blessed me with.
Despite being cursed into a monster and being banished by your royal parents, you were happy with your life. Your home was peaceful. You always had enough to eat. You even had friends despite your appearance, so yeah your life was great. Your non-cursed sibling's life, on the other hand

Could you do a scenario of reader comforting sirus after he gets an injury while playing Quidditch and has to sit out a lot of games?
Thanks for requesting!
Sirius Black x fem!reader ♡ 701 words
Sirius hardly pauses his sulking to mutter a quiet, “thanks,” when you return with his hot cider.
Remus scoffs. “Nice, Pads.”
“What?”
“You’re just so sweet to your girlfriend.”
“It’s okay,” you say, sitting next to Sirius with a smile. “It’s his first match being barred from the pitch, I get it.” You fix your boyfriend with a look. “I won’t be patient forever, though.”
Sirius looks genuinely contrite. “Sorry, baby.” You accept his apology kiss, but he scowls when a first year nearly trips on his cast. “Fuck, is this thing bloody invisible?”
“Easy,” Remus cautions, though both he and you shoot stern looks at the first year.
“Wanna turn sideways?” you offer. “I could hold it in my lap?”
Sirius perks up some. “You gonna give me a foot massage, gorgeous?”
“Merlin,” Remus mutters, scanning the student section for Lily.
“I don’t really see how that would be possible…” You raise your eyebrows, smiling when Sirius half turns in his seat to plonk his injured leg in your lap. “I was thinking more like I could draw on it. Any tattoos you’ve been wanting on this leg?”
Most of Gryffindor has already had a turn signing Sirius’ cast. It’s been on since the match last weekend, when a bad fall had broken Sirius’ leg badly enough that Pomfrey eventually had to send him out of the infirmary with skele-gro to heal what she couldn’t. It’ll be on for another couple weeks at least, and between you and James the white plaster is beginning to run out of space.
“Hm.” Sirius leans over, considering. You’re glad the distraction is working. He’s been quiet and sullen all week because he’s had to miss quidditch training, and you’re sure his melancholy is twice as bad having to miss out on an actual match. “What about a dragon?”
“I could maybe do that.” You fish a marker out of your bag. “What sort of dragon?”
Sirius’ mood sinks again when the match starts and the players fly out onto the pitch, but as it gets going and Gryffindor starts to score points, he gets into it. He roars with the rest of the crowd, picks up a chant about house pride, and, though he shouts a few obscenities at the beater filling in for him when a bludger gets too close to Bell, he still smiles when James points at him after scoring a goal. A real smile, bright and heart-fluttering.
Near the end of the game, Sirius looks rather contented. He sips his second cup of cider while you draw daisies in between the other doodles on his cast.
“They’d have more points if I were out there,” he says, rather mildly.
Remus nearly snorts. “Yeah? How do you figure?”
“I’d have sent a bludger towards Malfoy ages ago. There’s been lots of opportunities. Marlene’s holding her own, though,” he acknowledges. “And there are some advantages to being off the pitch for a little while.”
You catch the syrupy quality to his voice, and turn to find him looking at you. You raise your eyebrows. “Do tell.”
“Well, the cider, for one.” Sirius holds up his cup, as though that’s obvious. “Can’t usually have that during a match.”
“Mm, you’re welcome.”
“Did I not say thank you?” He leans over to nose at your neck. Remus respectfully looks back to the match. “Thank you, baby. Really. It’s great.”
“I didn’t make it.” You grin at him. “What are the other things?”
Sirius hums. “No early morning training. I get to have breakfast with my girl.”
“No afternoon training on the weekends, either.”
“Ah, see? You’re catching on.”
“Don’t talk down to me,” you laugh. “You’re the one who’s been giving everyone the cold shoulder all week, Black.”
“I know.” Sirius pulls his face from beneath your jaw. The playfulness is mostly gone from his expression, his eyes deep blue and full of apology. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to give anyone the cold shoulder, I just…”
“It’s okay,” you say easily. You lean over, kissing the top of his head. “Really, I get it. You alright?”
Sirius sighs, looking out over the pitch. “Yeah.”
You rest your cheek on his hair. “Good.”

ᶻz﹒─ ͏͏͏͏͏͏IT'S YOU THAT I WANT
SYN ── when you try setting them up with someone else, but it's you that they want; "if not you, then who?", enha x fmr, headcannons, ot7
HEESEUNG (희승)
stunned silence, and then rejection
annoyed and flustered that you just can't seem to figure out his feelings for you
"how'd you feel if i set you up with someone?"
there's a long pause that follows as soon as you state your offer, heeseung blinking at you. however, loud rejection falls from his mouth in a matter of seconds and he frantically scrambles for a reason. any reason.
"aww c'mon heeseung!" you groan, "you never go out with anyone, and one of my friends thinks you're really cute,"
"what about you?" he asks.
"what?"
"i said," he mumbles, "what about you?"
you tilt your head at him, confusion obvious on your face. heeseung flushes red, burying his head into his arms.
"dammit, i'm asking you what you think of me,"
JAY (제이)
has to take a breather
resentment, anger, shame (towards you for being dense)
"what are you playing at yn?"
"nothing!" you exclaim, "someone i know think's you're cute, and you're single so i'm just being the messenger here,"
"that's not what i mean," jay groans, "are you really serious or are you just playing with me?"
"playing with you?" you echo, frowning, "you're confusing me jay," you're only met with a laugh from him, and you watch as he runs his hands through his hair and his jaw tightens.
without warning, he grabs your hand placing it onto his chest.
"do you feel this?" he asks, "don't play with my heart, especially when only you can make it do this,"
JAKE (제이크)
in a daze, and ends up agreeing
ends up sputtering about you the whole entire time
you burst through the door to the cafe, easily finding jake, who's left alone at a table.
"jake!" you exclaim, running towards him, "what happened? ahra suddenly called me, saying she left, and that the date was horrible, and that you were horrible, but i was like how would jake be like-"
jake grabs your arm, cutting you off.
". . .she got sick of me talking,"
"she what?" you ask.
"she got sick of me talking about you the whole time," jake mutters sheepishly. he looks up at you, his flushed cheeks and eyes wide.
"i'll apologize to her later," jake starts.
"but it's you that i want to go on a date with,"
SUNGHOON (성훈)
gets angry that you're so dense
rejects right away
"what?" sunghoon asks, a scalding looking on his face.
"hey what's your problem?" you groan, " i'm just trying to help you out man,"
"man?" he grimaces, "seriously yn?"
"what?" you ask.
"be honest, do you even see me as one?"
"as a man?" you repeat.
sunghoon huffs, stepping closer to you, his eyes intense. you can feel the heat radiating from his body and he's practically on you.
"because i know for sure i see you as a woman,"
SUNOO (선우)
sick and tired of you
this is his final straw, ends up confessing
"i said no already, why do you keep pushing?" sunoo asks, annoyance clear.
"you never do stuff like this sunoo, this is an opportunity!" you exclaim, grabbing his hands, "for me?? please? plus haewon is super nice, you'll totally get along with her"
sunoo scoffs, pulling you in closer to him.
"well i don't want any opportunities unless it's one with you, i like you, not anyone else,"
JUNGWON (정원)
confused as hell
goes quiet because he quite literally is crashing out on the inside
ends up confessing
"jungwon?" you call, "are you listening?"
"huh? sorry what'd you say again?" you sigh, eyeing the boy in front of you. he wasn't one to zone out, and ever since you mentioned the possible date he'd gone silent.
"do you not want to go?" you ask, "it's fine i'll tell her you can't. you want to focus on school anyways right? it's always better to-"
jungwon slams his drink onto the table, coughing.
"i'd much rather focus on us," he says.
"us?" you tilt your head, "what about us?"
"god," jungwon laughs, "i like you got it?"
NI-KI (니키)
"yeah no" + nasty side eye
also ends up confessing to you
"yeah absolutely not,"
"oh come on," you groan, "what is your deal? sunoo told me that you complain about this stuff,"
riki furrows his brows at this, but he quickly realizes what sunoo's trying to do.
"oh my god," riki mutters. he glances at you, your eyes wide and innocent. "you're really really really stupid,"
"seriously what is your problem dude?" you grumble.
"my problem is that you can't seem to see that what i want isn't some other girl, but you,"

my second claim for the @sanjiartcollab !! outfit 345!!
i definitely took the concept and ran with it lol (like it’s def the same outfit but u can tell i had waaayyy too much fun with it xD)
closeups on my favorite details:
his entire head/face
i don’t know if it’s immediately obvious but i made his face and neck flushed as if he were a little embarrassed. i think it has a nice gradient :)
also very proud of the hair shape i came up with. i originally tried referencing a buuuunch of different artists i like, but coming up with my own style more directly based off the outfit ref worked a lot better
(btw i didn’t forget his pubestache i just don’t like drawing it lol)
the school bag keychains (there was gonna be a merry keychain too, but i wasn’t sure where to put it :/)
uniform id/nametag
not part of the actual outfit, but when i was looking for references for a gakuran jacket there were some with ids pinned to them, so i thought it’d be a good opportunity to add sanji’s official signature on it. which btw, how tf does one make a kiss mark done in pen??? does this guy just smudge ink on his lips???
furoshiki wrapped lunch box (sanji made pirate lunch boxes for everyone :D)
east blue crew!! they’re like cute lil stickers :] (def inspired by @michelmims ‘s art)
+ just sanji and the lineart!
the comic/lunchbox panels all have each character’s favorite food! (meat on a bone for luffy, fish and chips for usopp, seafood pasta for sanji, onigiri for zoro, and mixed fruits for nami)
also i would like to thank god himself, eiichiro oda, cause if i hadn’t studied his art so heavily in my last collab piece i wouldn’t have realized the power of halftones in shading! also also, watching op fan letter helped me figured out how to pick good shadow colors (basically; cool colored shadows on warm colors, and warm shadows on cool colors!) my shading’s not perfect but it’s definitely not flat anymore :D
is it obvious i really like this piece lol xD
AS ALWAYS PLEASE CHECK OUT THE COLLAB SERVER!! EVERYONES SO NICE AND COOL AND THERES GONNA BE NEW OUTFITS TO CLAIM IN JANUARY!!!
#also i worked waaayy too hard on those yellow-blue highlights pls appreciate them#sanjiartcollab#sanji art collab#black leg sanji#blackleg sanji#vinsmoke sanji#one piece#one piece fanart#art collab#one piece art collab#sproouts.jpeg#artist on tumblr

Frankly i always read it as Danny choosing to take the shots for the JL’s victims as he wishes someone would do for him, and to take the blow back once he realized there would be little to no negative affect on him.
This is more from the Superman-hates-Kon or JL-is-team-Clones-are-to-be-killed as he has experience with that and doesn’t necessarily see the individual clones in their own fawn and freeze or flight and fight modes.
He sees his clone, Dani, and imagines her in that position.
Danny is more than willing to fight for others (see the show) and while he’s willing to let Mikey get bullied in his place he still winces at it and has tried to redirect Dash a few times to himself when he gets more comfortable and confident in his ghostly abilities and how low the impact will be for him long term on healing and such as a halfa and hero compared to very human Mikey.
So i always figured Danny was doing a mixed projection of his own neglect from his parents, which he absolutely sees Superman doing if he refuses to interact with Kon in any story where Kon is kryptonian (and you know, needs a fellow kryptonian to help with his powers and none were available (only superman and Kon exist) or are actively against Kon’s existence (versions where Kara is against clones existing). Danny can clock that as Severe Neglect and goes ‘wait a minute there’s no one else with his power set to help! You say you’re a hero (good, kind, benevolent) but are lying (as neglect to child/clone in need of guidance that this situation boxes you in as only option) what the fuck is wrong with you!’ As his initial reaction.
Becuase in these Kon is in a mixed parallel to Dani (clone, made to hurt creator but Danny is unaware of that) and Danny (a mildly neglected child taught to not fight back) after Danny has grown confident in his abilities to defend both Ghosts and Humans from one another and likely is working up the courage to do so with his parents or has done so already.
Danny is seeing Kon as someone Dani could have been is obvious, but Danny seeing himself in there, the neglect and (seemingly) having one option to mentor in your abilities but is not allowed to be (For Danny as Vlad demanded Jack’s death, for Kon as Superman won’t interact with him period) means Danny is doing what he wished someone did for him when he was younger and acting as that person.
Is he petty about it? Yep.
Is he also deciding to be the rudest version of a wakeup call possible in the Kon case where he’s projecting Dani and himself on Kon? Yep!
Would Danny forgive them later? Forgiveness is Kon’s to give and Danny will follow his lead, but will hold the grudge to guilt superman during backslides.
For Flash i always assumed its a longstanding grudge from cleaning up the mess to keep timelines functional and a longstanding thing on Danny’s side (possibly meeting flash out of order/non linearly) and his beef is with how many times he fixed the various flashes (as yeah. They pass the title around and have multiple flashes besides Barry and Wally. Bart’s been flash as have Jay Garrick and a lot of others. This is a borderline bloodfued with the Phantoms who keep going off to fix Flash Fuckups and see what the timelines could have been had the Flash not played musical chairs with the timelines.
The flash fam just has not learned that yet (besides maybe Bart who’s either aware and figured the rest were too, or was given an exception as Clockwork’s favorite for not playing with timelines like putty constantly).
GL idk about havent seen alot of that, atleast with his character. General ‘dont ask how i died’ things sure but usually related to summoning danny after trying ti bind him… and at that point JL usually have screwed up something else apart from summon.
Interdimensional warcrimes i tend to only see with Ghost King summonings and them demanding he do xyz or banish him from their dimension and the like. Or a deal to handle a big bad with that as Danny’s price, so it may be a matter of what our feeds are getting there.
And yeah, set up is a skill in writing that takes ages to learn (as someone who is iffy on that skill, can confirm its a bastard to learn if you’re not a writer who is good at corralling the characters and plot.)
So i assumed these were usually just drabbles and snippits and the rest was for imagination to work out esp if its mostly dialouge in character action: dialouge format 🤷♀️
Why is Danny everyone’s mouthpiece for their random grudges against various superheroes? Why is it SO COMMON for Danny to show up and immediately start chewing people out?
Like. Danny? Mr. ‘My Parents Shoot At Me But It’s Fine’? Mr. ‘Dates The One Ghost Hunter At His School’? Danny ‘Dash Can Shove Me Around I Guess’ Fenton? Holds a bunch of grudges against popular superheroes and tries to punch them at the first available opportunity??
I know it’s become a pretty popular characterization in fandom for Danny to be pretty testy/spiteful, I just don’t really get it

Whrns the next Sunny n' Sides update?
How about now?
Can’t Finish What You Started Pt 10
Sunstreaker x Reader, Sideswipe x Reader
• “Did you see it?” Bluestreak whispers. Reaching up a hand to where you’re perched on his shoulder to keep you steady as Sideswipe sits at the rec room table with Blue, Cliffjumper, and Bumblebee, he’s aware of the looks he’s getting from other Autobots. No, not just him. Hound and Trailbreaker are both whispering and glancing at their whole table.“Everyone’s being weird now,” Bluestreak adds, sounding hurt. None of them have their humans with them he notes as he wraps his servos around you and lowers you to the table. He’s brought you along because he’d thought you’d like to socialize with the other little humans. You, Bee’s, and Blue’s humans helping coax Cliff’s.
• Looking up at the other bots as Sides leans his arms on the table, you sit down crosslegged. Disappointed that there aren’t any other humans, because usually Bluestreak at least has his with him. It’s nice being able to talk to other people. Other humans. Sharing the awkward and surreal experience of belonging to an Autobot. “What exactly did I miss?” Sideswipe asks and Bee grimaces, waving a hand at him. Leaning forward, the yellow bot glances at you then whispers. “Don’t watch it here, but Megatron sent out an unencrypted warning to the Decepticons and, well, it’s causing some rumors. Speculation.” Megatron? You’ve heard Sunny and Sides talk about him, the leader of the enemy forces. But the rumors and speculation? Not a clue what they’re talking about. “But things are a bit tense right now. You should take your human back to your quarters, okay?”
• Venting as he stands and catches the optics staring at him, he reaches for you. It’s not hostility exactly, but Bee’s right about the tension. Something’s clearly off. An obvious division between the bots with humans and those without. What had Megatron said? Lifting you to cradle against his chassis, you lay a hand on him, looking up at him as he carries you back to his quarters. You’re not in danger from his fellow Autobots, but whatever’s going on is making him uneasy. Can hear the whispering as he walks with you, the looks. And you seem to be picking up on it, too. Leaning against him. “What’s going on?” You ask and he rubs a servo against your spine, trying to soothe you.
• “No idea,” he murmurs as he heads into his shared habsuite and finds Sunny already there, a datapad in hand and a frown on his face. “Hey, Bee said Megatron sent a message. Everyone’s being weird.” Sunny’s optics flick from him to you as he sets the datapad down and pushes it his way with a servo. Setting you down on the desk, he pulls the datapad to himself and plays the recording Sunny had queued up. And his mouth falls open. “What?”
• “What does frag mean?” You ask, head tipping up toward them. You couldn’t see the screen, but you’d heard the video and interfacing with the context seemed to imply sex. Which is absolutely crazy. And both twins grimace at the same time while you try to figure out the joke. Because that has to be a joke. “It means sex, doesn’t it?” And how would that even work? Biting the inside of your cheek to avoid asking the next logical question about their anatomy.
• “It does,” Sunny mutters, pressing his servos to his head. Feeling the tension in his processor growing. Because apparently the Decepticons are fragging humans and looking at you, knowing how fragile you are, he can’t help but feel faintly ill. Can’t imagine those other humans surviving very long at the brutal hands of the Cons. And for the first time, he’s glad Sides took you, because otherwise you might have ended up captured by a bored Decepticon. You’re safe here with him to protect you, but out there? If the cons are actively hunting humans? “Some of the other Autobots are talking about ‘adopting’ humans for their own safety now. Optimus hasn’t told them not to, but he’s not really said anything since the message went out. Others are whispering that some Autobots are already doing the same thing. Gossiping.” Venting tiredly, he reaches out a servo to you, rubbing your side.
• “Primus, do we know how many humans the Cons have?” Servos flexing, Sideswipe stares at you looking up at Sunny. So small he can pick you up with one hand. Delicate compared to them. A human taken by the Decepticons wouldn’t be treated so gently. Used until they die only to be replaced. “Optimus has to do something.” Reaching out he touches your arm just to reassure himself that you’re safe and whole. Can’t imagine those eyes terrified, your spirit broken at the hands of some Decepticon. “We have to do something.”

I wanted to do a scar chart for my boys, not only to know where scars are, but also to figure out body types! I struggle a lot with unique body types so this is a challenge, but that’s fine! Challenges are good.
With Sky, I wanted him to have a more softer but strong look to him. He’s very strong in the game, so his arms are pretty toned. But he has some tummy cuz he just doesn’t care about looking toned or anything. He does what he wants. He has a lot of various scars here and there, but the biggest one is from his battle with demise.
Minish is a blacksmith and is very strong with his arms and chest. He’s short but he’s very toned. A lot of his major scars come from Vaati.
Time is the strongest on the team. He’s tall, he’s buff, he’s done farm and ranch work for the past 10 years, he’s terrifying. Idk what happened to his head but pls ignore how small it is. The sketch made his head really big so I shrunk it so he’d still look tall and now he looks ridiculous 😔 [EDIT: I can’t take it anymore. I had to change his head size. It looks normal now] he doesn’t have a lot of scars from his actual adventures. His body traveled back in time but his mind stayed in place, so a lot of injuries that would scar didn’t. The only scars he has is from his final battle with Majora. All other scars are from his time at lon lon and other scars he got as a kid. Also I gave him my issue with super itchy legs. I have them scars myself UwU
Legend has powerful legs, so they’re much stronger than the rest of his body, but he’s well toned thanks to his sword fighting abilities. I… haven’t played or am familiar with his games save for la so his scars are kinda lame, but let’s just say that he did a good job at keeping big scars from scarring. (This is a half joke but he has a burn scar from Aganhim on his butt. For obvious reasons you can’t see it)
Totem has very strong shoulders and arms thanks for all the totem times he did. So he has a strong upper body. He should probably work on leg day tho. He has two injuries from accidents regarding totem time (falling on his face while being the guy on top and having someone’s boots scuff his shoulder) but he’s a totem master now!
Rift only has rift-shaped markings on his body, and he’s a very lanky kid. He’s a bit toned in his arms and chest thanks to sword fighting but that’s about it. He doesn’t focus that much on his body anyways.
Hyrule is a very small and skinny kid, with some muscle showing on his arms thanks to swords fighting. But generally he’s small, which is good for him cuz that makes hiding easier. A lot of scars from his first adventure.
#man ankles are not liking me today#legend of zelda au#zelda au#legend of zelda#link between links#lbl Sky#lbl Minish#lbl time#lbl legend#lbl totem#lbl rift#lbl Hyrule#hot dang so many downfall timeline kiddos!!#sky makes Twilight nervous with his strenght#time makes twilight run for his life

Merry scroogemas
Paring- Rafe Cameron X kook reader
Series- Outer banks
Summary- You hate Christmas with everything in you but Rafe try’s to change that.
Warnings- Kissing.
Obviously- like usual my Christmas post is posted after Christmas…!
December the 1st
"How excited are you then?" Rafe came and sat down on my bed. I turned my phone off and rolled my head over to look at him. "It's December the first- it's about to be our first Christmas together- to be honest I thought you'd already have your tree up" he laughed but soon lost it once he saw my face. "What's wrong..." he asked me putting his hand out to pull me up. I sat up and shuffled closer to him, trying to figure out what to reply with.
"Rafe- I don't like Christmas" I told him avoiding eye contact at all costs. "Okay scrooge" he chuckled thinking I was joking. "it's my least favourite time of the year" I shrugged my shoulders looking up at him now, so he knew I was being serious. "You're being serious- nobody hates Christmas?" "I do..." I told him pulling back a little now. I know it was a very unpopular opinion- but it was my opinion.
"Come back" he wrapped an arm around my shoulders pulling me closer to him. "Can I ask why?" he whispered seeing that it was clearly effecting me. "That depends- if you wanna get deep or not" I shrugged my shoulders at my boyfriend. "Only with you my love" he nodded his head keenly and then laid a soft kiss on my forehead in comfort. "Well- my parents would often be so busy that Christmas was never a family thing, when I was little I went to a boarding school and- they never came and collected me on holidays" I began explaining.
Rafe never took his eye off me, he made it obvious he was taking note of everything I said. "When I reached upper school they took me out of my boarding school and sent me to our school- but nothing changed..." my eyes began to start filling up with salty tears. "They were always on long business trips over Christmas, and because i'm an only child I ended up being alone again- just in the house this time" I shrugged trying to shake off the tears. "Oh y/n" Rafe whispered closing his eyes.
'"Last year- my mum was at home for Christmas- dad had flown to Brazil for businness- I thought it was going to be different- but she didn't leave her office more than twice the whole day". "I'm so sorry- I had no idea..." he told me looking sad himself now. "No one does- no one knows- don't get me wrong my parents didn't do it because they don't love me- they just think that me having the material presents they get me is what Christmas is about, they didn't have presents when they were younger because they grew up on the cut" I replied to him.
"Have you ever spoken to them about it?" Rafe questioned but that just made me giggle. "Rafe suggesting communication? what have I turned you into" "I don't know- i'm shocked too to be honest" he joined in with my laughter. "But no- I haven't- money changed them they are very materialistic, their life is their work and nothing I say is going to change that". "I think I might need a strong drink after that, because you've just shattered my heart" "Oh Rafe" I sighed smiling.
"Ive grown very used to it" "You know you're making it worse don't you?" he swept his hand under my arms and pulled me against his body into a hug. "What's happening this year?" he whispered in my ear while holding me tight. "My dads already on a two month business trip and mum leaves on the 16th and comes back on new years" I told him, and then held my breath waiting for the sympathy about how pathetic it was to roll in.
"Then my house is your home from the 16th until new years" Rafe called out making me jerk away from him so I could see his expression. “No- Rafe I cannot impose like and especially not on Christmas” I shook my head vigorously. “Oh come on you’re not imposing y/n you’re family and family are supposed to be together on Christmas” he replied making his face go soft.
“Rafe- I don’t like Christmas- I’ll just bring the spirit down” I answered him sadly. “You light rooms up- you could never bring anything down”. I blushed under his gaze but still wasn’t sure. “I won’t enjoy the day knowing you’re home on your own” “but Rafe you don’t understand- I’m used to it it doesn’t effect me now- I like being on my own because I don’t like Christmas” I explained to him slowly so that he’d understand how serious I was.
“Will you think about it?” He turned his head and put it on his shoulder. “Yeah alright” I nodded giving him a weak smile. “Thank you” he whispered leaning in and kissing me gently. “I love you” rage murmured against my lips. “Not as much as I love you” I returned giving him a peck on the lips.
December the 3rd
“Hello handsome” I smiled as I opened the door. He stood there with a giant smile across his face as if he was plotting something. “Hello my love, you ready?” “Where are you taking me Rafe cameron?” I smirked stepping down onto my front door step to join him. Rafe embraced me and kissed my forehead. I loved how affectionate he’d been with me lately. It took him a while to come out of his shell but now he was always touching me.
“It’s a surprise, come on” he smiled taking my hand in his and leading me to his car. It was pretty dark now and Rafe had told me he had plans for us. But what possible plans could he have for us at 8pm on a Monday. He closed my door for me and then got into the drivers seat. As he began driving he asked me about my day and I asked him about his.
I hadn’t seen him since his offer to spend Christmas at his. We’d both been busy seeing friends and doing work. I enjoyed talking to him but I was also watching the road to see where he was taking us. But it seemed to be into town. Rafe parked in one of the car parks, it was rammed with people and cars. “I wonder why it’s so busy tonight?” I looked at him as we both climbed out the car.
“It’s a mystery” Rafe wiggled his eyebrows, I gave him a funny look wondering what he was up to. “Come here” he put his hand out and I clasped his one as we made our way into town. “It’s packed” I muttered looking around. “There’s top” I pointed through the mass of people. “Oh yeah” Rafe smiled seeing his friend, but he just squeezed my hand and we walked past the group of boys.
“Did you not wanna say hello?” I questioned confused for a second. “No my love, I’m here with you my attention is on you” he told me smiling down at me. “What’s the time?” Rafe asked me, distracting me from blushing. “Erm, twenty past eight” I told him looking at my watch. “Perfect, we made good timing”. “What time do we need to be there for?” “Starts at half eight” Rafe replied as we weaved through the crowds.
As we came to the main square a huge Christmas tree stood, it was unlit but there were loads of people crowed round it. “Rafe” I looked up at him with a raised eyebrow knowing what was going on now. “Yes gorgeous” he answered catching onto my tone. “Is today what I think it is?” I questioned as we came to a stop. “Depends what you think it is” he smirked knowing I knew what we were up to now.
“It’s the Christmas switch on huh”, Rafe chuckled nodding his head and pulling me close to his body. “Yes- I thought it might get you a little more spirited” “I see the Christmas lights every year Rafe, they’re always the same”. Rafe let out a little laugh again “well they might be a little different this year” “I can’t bet you fifty quid they won’t be” I sang back to him. Rafe put his arm round my shoulders and turned us towards the tree.
Soon everyone began counting down Rafe joined in with a huge grin on his face. I felt a wave of sadness that I didn’t feel the same excitement about the season. I felt like I was just brining him down. But my mind was distracted when the lights turned on. There was only one word for it. Gorgeous.
The lights reached all around the tree and the buildings, all different colours twinkling in the night. There were so many more this year, so many different shapes on the street lamps, snowflakes, Christmas puddings, Santa faces. The lights swirled round the drain pipes, and the guttering. I gazed around in amazement, the lights reflected in my eyes. I caught sight of Rafe, he wasn’t staring at the lights he was staring at me.
“How’d you know they were going to be different this year?” I laughed throwing my arms round his neck. “I may have pulled a few strings to make it a little more magical for you this year”. My eyes widened “Rafe Cameron” I shook my head in disbelief. “You know I’d do anything for you, I want you to experience a different Christmas this year” “does that mean you have some more tricks up your sleeve” I chuckled pushing up on my tip toes to get close to his face.
“Lots” he whispered giving me a small kiss. “Come on- I’ve lit up the whole town for you, let’s go walk down some streets” Rafe suggested putting his hand out for me to hold. I gave him a warm smile and grabbed onto his bicep as we began to walk round. I can’t believe he did this for me.
December the 7th
I knocked on Rafes door eyeing up the giant reef attached to the knocker. “Hello my love” he smiled opening the door for me and stepping backwards. “Hey handsome” I gave him a kiss as entered the house and began taking my shoes off. “I’ve told you you don’t need to knock anymore y/n, you’ve been around long enough to just come in- the house is yours” he told me pulling my coat off me gently and hanging it u for me.
“I know I know- but then i wouldn’t get my lovely greeting from you”. Rafe laughed at me shaking his head, “come on I set some stuff up for us” he said, I watched as an excitement flickered in his eyes. What christmasy task has he got for us to do now. I trailed behind rafe as we strode into the kitchen, ward was in there with rose and they both turned and smiled at me. “Hey y/n, how are you” Ward twinkle waving at me.
“Oh I’m okay thank you, how are yous” I smiled back leaning against the island. “Yeah not bad- just trying to organise Christmas as well as keep up with work” Ward rolled his eyes playfully. “We hear you might be joining us this year” rose joined in moving her eyes from me to Rafe. “Oh um…” “she’s still thinking about it” Rafe said for me, putting an arm round my waist. “Well, it would be lovely to have you here hunny, you’re always welcome” Rose nodded rubbing her husbands arm.
“Thank you- you don’t know what that means to me” I expressed watching them smile at each other. “We will leave you to it” ward nodded at the island table. I turned my head round seeing a huge box on the table. Rafe had taken everything out the box and opened the packaging. “Gingerbread house?” I looked at him shocked. “Yeah?” “I’ve never made one before” I blinked walking round to take a look at the box.
“Well I haven’t since I was a kid” rafe scratched the back of his head. “I guess it’s a little childish but it might be fun” “Rafe- I love it” I walked over rubbing his arm. “Thank you” I smiled getting excited now. “I just thought because you like doing your little craft stuff you might make a masterpiece” he joined me sitting down and we both got started picking up the pieces. The actual making of the gingerbread house I kinda sat back talking about what i’d been up to since I last saw him at the light switch on and let Rafe do the work. He seemed to know what he was doing.
But the decorating I was in charge of. We put icing all on the roof and the walls as well and sticking little treats on. Rafe had brought little sweets for us to use too, but we ended up eating half of them before they even made it onto the house. In the end it looked pretty good, we’d done a good job, I’d even go as far as saying it looked better than the boxes one. “Right, let’s take some pictures then we can make hot chocolate and eat it” Rafe rubbed his hands together.
“Mm- yeah sounds good” I nodded getting my phone out. “Smile handsome” I called out at him. We took some together and he took some of me, before Rafe went off to make us our drinks. I watched him smiling the whole time, wondering how I got so fucking lucky.
December the 15th
“Hello my love” I smiled at Rafe as I walked down the stairs, he was talking to my mum in the hall way. “Hello beautiful- you look lovely” he gazed up at me. “Thanks hun” I gave him a kiss on the cheek. “What you two up to tonight?” My mum wondered putting her hands behind her back. “I have no clue, Rafe seems to like surprises this month” I giggled, his hand wrapped round my waist. “She’ll like it, but it’s a bit of a drive so we better get going” “okay darlings, well I’ll probably have left for the airport hotel by the time you get back” she told me.
“Well have a great trip mum” she walked closer to hug me goodbye. “Merry Christmas darling, all your presents are under the tree, you’ll love them this year” she rubbed my arms. “Yeah- thank you” I nodded taking a step back. “Yours will be waiting for you when you get back” I told her feeling Rafe’s arm squeezed round me again. “Oh y/n me and your father don’t want anything off you” she shook her head. “It’s just something little- but we better get going- I’ll see you on new years”.
“Yes- you two enjoy yourself, I’ll see you later Rafe” she waved him off and walked off upstairs. And we left as quick as possible. “Wow- I can’t believe she’s that blind to how it makes you feel” Rafe shook his head baffled at my mum’s behaviour. “Christmas just isn’t a big thing in my family Rafe- it’s okay, she thinks she’s doing the right thing she’s going to work and buying me everything I could ever want” I shrugged my shoulders.
“I suppose” he sighed turning on the car. The drive was quite a while away, we again just spoke about what we’d been up to since we last saw each other on the 7th. Christmas wasn’t far now, and because my mum left tomorrow I had a feeling Rafe was going to want an answer tonight at some point. We drove about an hour away from home, and I really couldn’t put my finger on what we were doing tonight. Rafe parked in another car park, there were lots of people in this one too.
“What are we up to then” “come on” Rafe laughed throwing his arm round my neck. “You don’t have to wait much longer. Rafe lead me through the edge of town to the main streets and before my eyes stood a huge Christmas market flowing all the way down the street. There were stalls everywhere, loud Christmas music coming from the speakers. The lights weren’t as pretty as the ones back home but the market stalls made it very cute. “I’ve never been to a Christmas market”.
“Well I’m honoured to take you to your first one” Rafe rubbed his thumb across my hand. “Anything that catches your eye, it’s yours” “Rafe- you don’t have to do that I have my own money” I told him as we began the walk into the town center. “I took you here so I could spoil you, so anything you want my love, it’s yours”. “Well- we should probably get a drink while we’re walking around” pointing at a stall with a large sign.
“I’ll get a hot chocolate- what do you fancy?” He asked me turning us toward the line. “I’ll have a mulled wine since it’s Christmas”. As soon as the words came out my mouth I frowned to myself. Why was I going along with Christmas traditions? Maybe Christmas wasn’t so bad with the right people. “Of course gorgeous” Rafe answered me taking his wallet out, but I watched the smirk on his face, he looked proud of himself. He knew I was sliding over to his side.
Me and Rafe walked around all the stalls, trying things on, trying samples, buying things. Rafe got some every strong rum and he brought me a load of different trinkets. Jewellery, crochet animals, plants, little paintings, candela. We eventually had walked around and had brought everything we wanted, so we stopped off to get some food from one of the stalls and headed over to some benches to scran it.
“Rafe- I really enjoyed the Christmas markets” I smiled up at him holding my burger in my hands. “Correction- Rafe I really enjoyed spending your money”. I laughed nudging him “how dare you I offered to pay”, he joined in with the laughing. “You will never pay for anything while I’m around” he shook his head and stopped laughing. “So- have you thought anymore about my offer?”. I bit my lip staring at my food. “Okay Rafe- I’ll spend Christmas with you”. His eyes told me everything I needed to know.
He was so excited and that warmed my heart and soul. “You won’t regret it, you’ll have the best Christmas with us” he told me, practically bouncing in his seat. “I know handsome- thank you for everything you’ve done this month”, “well was i successful?- do you like Christmas a little more now?” Rafe slimmed his eyes at me. “Well- I’ve loved spending time with you and if that’s what Christmas is about then yes, you were successful” I nodded my head, it was impossible to stop my smile.
“I’ll take that”, Rafe leant in and softly kiss my cheek. “I love you Rafe- Merry Christmas”. His eyes widened in shock at my words but he still smiled. “I love you y/n, merry Christmas my love”.

Man, I have got to learn to stop going into the comment sections of mouthwashing playthroughs because of the same old tired takes getting circulated there. Like one comment I saw said Curly was acting all "buddy buddy" with Jimmy after he figured out what happened to Anya, and it's like huh, I guess you missed the subtlety of the score playing while Curly is trying to find Jimmy. That being that Curly is low-key panicking about the situation and so the things he's saying to Jimmy could be coming from a fawn response rather than him just trying to comfort Jimmy.
It's why I don't bother either, I already see enough bad takes just on here. I avoid mouthwashing tiktok like the plague.
Even if you want to read Curly as being "buddy buddy" with Jimmy it is very very very obvious that something is up. Ignoring the music, the dialogue alone is extremely unnatural. We've seen Curly be confident, with Anya it's confident and comfortable. With Swansea its stern as is his role as Captain but forgiving, with Daisuke its firm but again, forgiving. It's very evident that Curly has the confidence for his role and the ability to hold that in situations of stress while still being lax and carefree because he trusts his crew, he holds no personal interest or respect for Pony Express so theres no reason for him to be cruel or unfair; and despite that, he's still the Captain and he most certainly can express that when he so desires.
But not with Jimmy. When he's with Jimmy he's frightful, unsure of himself, scared to defend himself or even speak up because he would much rather be the one taking the hits than not at all because it also meant Jimmy had a target to vent his frustrations or anger out on. Much rather it be him than someone else, thays why he tries so hard to be the one in between, either as a mediator or so he could step in whenever necessary. He was willing to do as much as possible to fawn, please and be in the way, both mentally and physically, so if the worst to happen it would only happen to him.
He's panicking because he's never seen Jimmy so worked up so he defaults to the same three points as if he's reading from a script because he genuinely doesn't know how to approach the situation in a way that benefits them both in some way.
Jimmy gets to let his frustrations out and Curly gets a calm Jimmy, someone thats more agreeable, calmer and possibly even less dangerous. Someone that you can approach with other topics with much less risk, which could have been the original plan; to let Jimmy get his frustrations out, calm him down enough to sit and talk more about their options regarding the situation. All we know for certain is that he wanted so badly to be there with Anya when she told Jimmy.

Do you think Galacta Knight's horns are real or part of his mask?
...Oh wow. This ask floored me, anon, because personally I've always believed they were a part of his mask and not real horns and yet, I have almost never found anyone who agreed, let alone would even entertain the possibility they were just decorative...!
It just always made the most sense to me...?
Like, that kind of thing is VERY standard for medieval helmets - animal, insect, and demonic motifs to be an intimidating figure on the battlefield, that is. Both realistic and exaggerated depictions.
(Also, the game IS developed in Japan by a Japanese studio and it would not be at all weird for them to draw inspiration from samurai helmets for his mask design.)
We KNOW Meta Knight, at least, is shy to show his true face, so why would another puff not do the same thing and try to look fiercer than his face suggests? Especially if his only inborn distinctive trait is having angel wings, a symbol of peace and benevolence?
(I also believe, aesthetically, that having the only physical difference between Galacta Knight and Meta Knight outside of their opposing colors being MK's devil wings and GK's angel wings - as opposed to devil wings v angel wings AND horns - makes them MUCH better parallels to each other? Adding real horns in just muddies it.)
Also, imo, in every render and model of him, the "horns" are too closely modeled into the helmet to have room to feasibly grow out from his head! Just saying, but that would be a ridiculously uncomfortable design to wear in RL, constantly rubbing and chaffing against his horns, preventing it from moving and "breathing" with his face while not providing any form of protection for them either!!
They're also made of the same golden color AND texture as the ornamentation of his shield. I know I'm going against fandom popular opinion here, but that also tells me they are ORNAMENTAL.
While ornamental horns just seem the most logical to me for species, character, historical, and design reasons, it's pretty obvious that aesthetically and interest-wise, non-ornamental horns have a complete stranglehold have won out in the fandom.
I have seen innumerable asks questioning + folks speculating via art and other mediums, "What horns do you think Kirby will develop when he grows up?" Most people go to great efforts to research, dream up, or uncover the appropriate "head attachments" for their puffs when designing Kirby OCs to "fit" their interpretation of Galacta + what a mature member of Kirby's species simply MUST look like.
Quite simply, Galacta having horns clearly stirs folks imaginations(1) more than a dark pink puff with angel wings who wants to represent themselves as a fierce demon on the battlefield.
...Even though Galacta Knight making a conscious choice to contrast their angelic visage with demon horns whenever they are in battle says a lot of fascinating things and makes them a more interesting and nuanced character to investigate, in my opinion.
--
(1) While I think it's more fascinating if he doesn't have them, I would be remiss to ignore the issue that, in a lineup, it provides Galacta Knight some much needed visual diversity from the others. It makes his gijinka and unmasked form instantly more recognizable than they would be otherwise.
Real horns have more appeal for the same reason many folks (and I am guilty of this) give Dark Meta Knight a scar on his eye under his mask, even though realistically, him taking that kind of injury is practically impossible. (That's what the mask is there FOR lol!)
#Kirby#Kirby series#Galacta Knight#Haven't talked much about it because it is a near universal fan depiction but yeah I'm Team Helmet#And while I don't mind Team Horns it feels lonely sometimes#I'd like to see others explore the mindset of a Galacta Knight who CHOOSES to wear the horns#Who-when unmasked-looks like a benevolent messenger of peace without that discordant element and must add it himself#When and why did he make that decision? To discard his angelic self and add in those demonic elements?#Was there a time he played into the angelic look entirely?#To me it's just a fascinating and little trod path...

Cut Off
[warning for binge drinking and references to self harm]
He didn't know what to think when he saw the scars on his arms. He knew they were there but he never brought it up. He wasn't good at handling situations like that. He wasn't good at comforting others, he never has been. Not even when he was Sans.
And then Blue pointed out some of them seemed to be recent given that they weren't as healed as the others.
Instantly, he knew what caused those scars.
That argument they had. After he stabbed through his soul.
He avoided Killer as much as he could for about a whole week afterwards until they made up.
IT’S YOUR FAULT. YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE CARVED THOSE YOURSELF.
Horror seemed to come to the same conclusion. He stared at Dusk knowingly. He sighed and carefully put a shirt on Killer along with his usual jacket.
They weren't going to bother with changing his pants, comfort be damned. They've already intruded enough on his personal space.
Afterwards, Blue asked Horror to have a private talk with him in his room and that he’ll have one with Dusk after.
It was puzzling, but Horror went with him anyway, leaving Dusk alone with Killer.
It left him some time to ruminate, specifically about his relationship with him.
He stayed crouched down by the couch Killer was sleeping on.
They never labeled what it was—Killer seemingly didn't think of their relationship as anything special, which is what spurred that argument in the first place. Considering Killer's apology and the new scars on his arms, that couldn't be further from the truth.
It's true that initially it was casual. The kissing, the drugs, all of it was just to get away from everything.
Their horrible living circumstances, Nightmare, their guilt—those nightly meetings warded them off even if it was for just a little bit.
At first it didn't matter who the other person in the room was. It didn't matter who they were smoking with. They weren't…Killer wasn't thinking of him when they kissed. Initially.
And then it stemmed into something more, after the night they agreed to quit it with the drugs. Now they did matter to each other. The whole reason they hung out at night had changed. They liked each other's company. They liked each other.
Yet being trapped under Nightmare's grip evaporated any hope for a proper relationship. Killer always avoided talking about their relationship too—but Dusk didn't see that as the main problem.
But now they're somewhere new. Somewhere safe, hopefully.
SOMEWHERE YOU DON’T DESERVE TO BE.
They could have a proper relationship now, he supposed, but diving into one immediately—living with each other—was starting to seem like a bad idea.
He cares about Killer a lot more than he ever expected to, so he wanted to do this right.
But what would that even entail? Was that even possible for them?
He studied Killer’s sleeping face. He didn't exactly look peaceful. He cupped his face with a hand. He felt him lean into the touch.
At least in their current states, he doubted it.
IT’LL NEVER HAPPEN. DO YOU THINK EITHER OF YOU CAN GET BETTER? AFTER EVERYTHING YOU’VE DONE?
Horror walked into the room a few minutes later. “you're up,” he said.
Dusk looked at Killer, but he was still asleep.
“no, i meant it's your turn to talk to him.”
Dusk rolled his eyelights and stood up. He walked into the hall even as Horror was trying to tell him where Blue’s room was located. He didn't need directions, it was pretty obvious with the light to his room being the only one that was on in the hallway.
Besides, he also had a concerningly easy time locating monsters in general, but that wasn't relevant in this specific instance.
He opened the door, which startled the skeleton inside.
His sockets widened. The room looked so similar to Papyrus’s, but it was off. While the layout was the exact same, the color of the carpet was different, the figures on his table weren't the same, and his bed looked like a rocket-ship instead of a car.
SEEMS FAMILIAR.
“Oh my god, I didn't realize my room would throw you off. Sorry,” Blue fretted. He was currently sitting on his bed with a clipboard and pen in hand. Seeing him in the room instead of Papyrus grounded him a bit.
Dusk waved his hand dismissively. It was fine.
“Please, take a seat.” He gestured to the stool in front of his bed. It was kinda funny how professional he was trying to be despite the setting.
He sat down.
“So…I want to preface this by assuring that you and the others are not getting kicked out of the hub. I just wanted to talk to each of you one on one to properly sort things out. The hotel room you and Killer are staying at is actually a temporary place to stay before we build a permanent home. My question to you is: do you want to continue to live with Killer?”
Blue managed to ask the one question Dusk wasn't sure how to answer. He ended up staring at him blankly.
“This choice isn't permanent of course, you could always change your mind.”
It was mostly Killer’s choice to live in the same hotel room. He went along with it without complaint. They were used to living in the same building after all. It was comfortable, but it might've been too comfortable.
If they continued to live with each other, would they even find any motivation to go outside? He doubted Killer would.
YOU WOULDN’T EITHER.
Finally, Dusk shook his head.
Blue quickly jotted something down. “Alright. Um, another thing I wanted to mention. I don't know anything about what you guys went through when you were under Nightmare’s captivity, but I know it must've been rough—and I’m not exactly licensed—but if you need someone to talk to I’m available.”
Dusk looked at him blankly. It clicked for him that the torn-up coat Blue was wearing was a lab coat. This guy was a wannabe doctor.
His silence only made the other skeleton nervous. His eyelights darted from side to side as he waited for a response. When he didn't get one he cleared his metaphorical throat and went on, “What I mean to say is, I’m a therapist—again not officially, but it's not like I can get licensed anymore—but that's besides the point! I got a PhD in psychology, so I have the knowledge…Okay maybe I forgot some of it…Most of it. Sorry, I’m rambling.”
Dusk perked up. If this guy had knowledge in that field he could probably help Killer better than he could ever. That was a pretty big “if” considering his questionable qualification, but Dusk knew with how things were now, he wouldn't be able to provide the support Killer needs. He was hardly keeping it together himself, he couldn't provide comfort for him for much longer without being dragged down too. For lack of a better way of wording it.
Hell, the only reason he's been keeping it together was out of pure stubbornness to make sure Killer was okay. He couldn't keep that up for long, that was for sure.
If they were going to live on their own, Killer would need someone else to support him.
OR ELSE HE’LL KILL HIMSELF.
can you not.
He glared into Blue’s eyelights. Did he really want this guy to be the one to do it?
Who else would it be? Horror?
Hell no. He's also got enough to deal with on his own.
“you can help?” he asked.
Blue’s sockets widened. “I…like to think so?”
That wasn't the most confident answer.
CAN YOU BLAME HIM? IT’S HARD TO HELP SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T DESERVE IT.
shut up.
“watch over killer.”
He watched Blue’s grip on his pen tighten.
“Okay,” he said.
No, he wasn't satisfied with that. He needed to be sure.
“promise me.”
Blue blinked in surprise, before a look of conviction crossed his face. “I promise. I promise I’ll keep him safe.”
LIAR.
He wrote something down again. “Um, is there anything I could do to help you?”
Dusk was about to shake his head, but then he thought of something.
HEY.
“medication.”
“Oh um, I don't have access to any medication…what specifically did you want them for?”
He pointed at the side of his skull.
Blue cocked his head as he tried to understand. “Headaches?”
…Well that was a problem too but not the one he was thinking about. He shook his head.
“Uhh, hearing? Do you have a hard time hearing or—no wait, that wouldn't make sense, are you having auditory hallucinations?”
Honestly he wasn't sure if the voice in his head was a hallucination or something else. He knew it wasn't actually Papyrus. Though that did take him an embarrassingly long time to figure out.
I AM PAPYRUS. YOU JUST CONVINCED YOURSELF OTHERWISE BECAUSE YOU CAN’T FACE IT THAT I HATE YOU.
Yeah, that wasn't Papyrus, but he still had no clue what this was. He shrugged.
“If they're hallucinations, antipsychotics could probably help. It doesn't always work though…but I probably wouldn't be able to get you any in the first place and I’d have to make sure they're hallucinations first,” he rambled. “What are you hearing, exactly? If you don't mind me asking.”
DON’T TELL HIM. YOU ALREADY SEEM INSANE ENOUGH AS IS.
Dusk’s hands gripped his arms as he curled into himself as much as he could on the stool. He didn't want to speak anymore, but he had to get this out.
DO YOU? IT’LL ONLY PUT YOU IN DANGER.
He pointed at Blue’s clipboard.
“Oh! Do you want to write it down?” Blue put a clean sheet of paper on top before handing it along with his pen over to Dusk.
He hesitated before writing down the first word, but once he started the rest was written quickly. He handed it back for Blue to read before the dumb voice in his head could protest.
The look on Blue’s face shifted as he read. His eyelights flicked up to Dusk as he continued and then he put the clipboard down off to the side. He covered his mouth with a hand as he processed what he read. Blue was looking everywhere but at him. It seemed he couldn't bring himself to face Dusk anymore.
I TOLD YOU THIS WAS A MISTAKE.
“That's…that's horrible, having to deal with that, I’m sorry,” he said.
Dusk didn't expect sympathy. He just told him that he killed his own brother and he was plagued by his voice ever since. If anything—
YOU DESERVE THAT.
Blue’s voice got quieter, “i—i have something i need to confess.” He clasped his hands together tightly. “I already knew that you killed your brother.”
Dusk’s sockets narrowed. He curled his hands into fists but he remained seated.
Blue had the gall to shut his sockets, “I know more than I should about you and the other two. You saw the book with my notes. I wasn't sure if any of you actually read through it, but there's an entry on other versions of you guys. They're not exactly the same as you, so I don't know exact details but I know you and Killer have…murdered a lot of monsters.” Once he finished talking, he finally opened his sockets. He hesitantly looked at Dusk.
HE KNOWS ABOUT ALL OF YOUR SINS.
That only made his actions more confusing.
“why are you trying to help us, then?”
It seemed Blue wasn't expecting to be asked this question because all of his anxiety washed away and was replaced with exasperation. “I told you guys already that I want to. I get that it's hard to trust me when you hardly know me but can't you suspend your doubts at least a little bit? Sure, you've hurt a lot of monsters, but that's no excuse for you to give up on ever being good again. Everyone can—”
“don't finish that sentence,” Dusk said.
Blue’s breath hitched as he was interrupted. “right, sorry.”
Everyone can be a great person if they try. That's what he was going to say.
Of course the person trying to help them is so similar to Papyrus. It was a cruel joke, really.
Well, this wasn't exactly a joke. It wasn't funny in the slightest.
Blue cleared his throat, “After I finish talking to Killer, I’ll take you all to your new homes in the Hub. If you don't have any questions that will be all. I'd appreciate it if you told Killer to come over here.”
Even if he did have questions he was frankly too preoccupied with the upcoming conversation he was going to have with Killer. So he simply gave him a nod and got up to walk out.
Once he got to the living room he saw that Killer was awake. He’ll never get over how Killer lights up whenever he sees him. It was—he wasn't used to it.
His brief exchange with him was awkward. He sighed once Killer went over to Blue's room. He didn't mention anything about living apart yet. He probably should've done so before sending him over, but he wanted to put it off for as long as he could.
Which isn't for long at all.
He sat on the couch next to Horror, dreadfully awaiting when he’d return and he'd have to explain everything.
At first he thought Horror was going to be mercifully silent, but after a minute of silence he spoke up.
“so, are you and killer still gonna share a room?”
Dusk threw his head back against the couch with a groan.
“i’m taking that as a no. good for you.”
Dusk glared at him.
Horror shrugged. “what? i’m being honest. it is good for you, and probably killer. you two are…” he trailed off trying to find the right word, “hazardous, together.”
“you think so?” Dusk signed frantically.
Horror raised a brow bone. “is that sarcasm?”
Dusk fell back against the couch again, deflated. Hazardous? That was one way to describe their relationship. How many injuries have they caused each other?
It was to let off steam, was the excuse they had, but considering the scars was it just another way Killer would hurt himself?
The thought made him sick.
HE’S USING YOU.
What did that even mean at this point?
He couldn't answer.
“so me and papyrus are gonna move into our own house, separate from the rest of the guys. it's gonna be weird getting used to living with him again.”
Showoff.
THAT’S NOT SHOWING OFF. YOU KILLED ME! THAT WAS EASILY PREVENTABLE!
It wasn't that simple but he has a point. He gave Horror a thumbs up. Good for him.
“i’m mostly saying that just in case you come over to visit me. i know it's hard for you to be near him, so.”
Dusk let out a half-laugh half-hum. How weirdly considerate of him, and about Papyrus nonetheless.
Back when Horror learned he and Killer murdered their brothers, he was furious towards them. The only reason he interacted with them was out of self preservation, and even then it was rare.
Maybe being tormented by the same being was the easiest way to bring anyone together.
Or maybe he just realized he wasn't really qualified to judge them after all he's done.
If they wore each other’s shoes they’d find they’d do the exact same thing. It’s funny how being the same person works.
Either way, it's surreal that they're friends now. Though, he kinda thought he’d stop being so friendly once they got away from Nightmare.
“anyway, how are you gonna tell him?” he asked.
He didn't have the answer to that, so he shrugged.
Horror snerked, “dude, seriously?”
“what would you say?” he signed, moving his hands in a stilted manner.
“you really gotta brush up on sign language, i can barely understand you.”
Dusk clenched his hands shut in silent annoyance. He wasn't wrong. His sign language was horrible. He was only going off of what he remembered from past resets, and even then he only took the time to learn it in timelines where they reached the surface. Which were very very distant memories.
“just be upfront. it's not like you two have to live with each other. ‘sides, he’ll be fine on his own.”
Dusk leaned his head forward and gave him a skeptical look.
“probably…” he added without much certainty.
He dreaded the conversation to come. That dread didn't dwindle at all when Killer entered the room and swore at him.
Horror fled the room immediately. Which was fair, but he would've appreciated some support.
He didn't even say anything yet and Killer was already on the verge of crying. His voice cracked as he yelled, usually Dusk found his voice cracks amusing, but now it made his soul twist.
He brought up a point Horror told him. Only for him to panic even more.
LOOK AT HOW MUCH YOU’RE HURTING HIM. IS THIS YOUR REVENGE ON HIM AFTER HE CALLED YOUR RELATIONSHIP A JOKE? WAS HIM CUTTING HIMSELF OVER YOU NOT GOOD ENOUGH?
He didn't want to hurt him. This wasn't revenge. He didn't want to hurt him!
HE KNOWS YOU HATE HIM.
He cared about him!
He loved him!
The words came out of his mouth before he realized it wasn't the best time to say them. It was a horrible time to confess, Killer was already overwhelmed.
That was the first time he said “i love you” to him.
He needed him to know how he felt. He needed him to be sure that they were splitting out of necessity and that he didn't hate him.
“we need to spend some time apart,” he said.
Killer started hyperventilating. God, he was shaking. It looked like he was going to fall over at any moment.
THIS IS WHAT YOU DO TO HIM. YOU’VE MANIPULATED HIM. NOW HE CAN’T STAND BEING WITHOUT YOU.
YOU’RE AWFUL.
YOU GAVE HIM THOSE SCARS.
Dusk hugged him, hoping it would calm him down.
Killer immediately clung onto him in return. His hand tightly gripped his jacket, desperate to keep him here.
He tried explaining why they had to be apart.
“dust, please, i’ve already been alone for too long!”
Dusk moved his hands to his shoulders and pushed him away so that he could look at his soul.
It looked the same as it did that night when they decided to quit doing drugs; it was jagged and changing frantically.
He didn't know what it meant exactly, but it didn't mean anything good.
Just like his soul, his face was a mess. He was crying. He thought he was mad at him for calling him “Dust”. He didn't even notice he did.
It hurt to see him like this, but that probably didn't compare to what Killer was going through.
It’d be worse if they stayed together. They wouldn't be able to leave their room. Why would they, when they had each other? No, he didn't want to live like that. It was going to be hard adjusting to a new life and meeting new people but they needed to.
YOU DON’T DESERVE TO.
Things will be better for both of them.
They just had to rip off the bandage first.
That whole conversation was worse than anything Nightmare’s put them through.
No, being overtaken by that parasite was worse, actually.
Either way, it ended up being motivation to go outside once they got back to the Hub. Only for him to b-line towards Grillby’s once he found it.
Once he walked into the place deja vu rushed through him. It looked the exact same as his Grillby’s, the only thing that reminded him that he wasn't in his universe were the patrons.
It was a lot more packed and it wasn't just the usual Snowdin residents that were here. Luckily, because it was so packed, no one paid him any mind when he walked in.
If this was his universe, everyone would greet him.
As he walked towards the bar he noticed that the establishment wasn't the exact same—because it seemed to be double the normal size.
That was the only noticeable difference so far, though.
Grillby himself looked the same, he was also cleaning a glass like he usually did whenever he had some downtime.
Feeling bold, he took a seat at the bar, not many people were sitting around here anyway.
Grillby looked at him, waiting for an order.
And then he realized he didn't have any gold on him. Maybe this Grillby would also put up with a stupidly long tab.
It was weird seeing him again. Fortunately, he's gotten used to seeing different versions of monsters he's killed. Even though they looked the same there was something off. It was like he could tell they were from different universes.
However, this Grillby didn't feel off to him at all.
He didn't need anything fancy to drink so he just ordered a glass of beer.
Grillby gave it to him without a word, which was typical of him.
He tried drinking it slowly at first, trying to seem casual and then he threw that out the window once he realized he didn't really care right now. He wanted to get wasted.
When Blue took them back here, both he and Horror accompanied Killer to his room. Horror practically dragged the skeleton over to his room with how unresponsive he got after their conversation ended.
Then when they said their goodbyes, Killer wordlessly clung onto his sleeve until Dusk pulled away.
Grillby refilled his beer, thank god.
He downed it immediately.
This is only temporary.
Another glass, actually, Grillby brought him two more. He knew he could always rely on him.
They’re not even that far apart from each other. He knows where he lives. He can visit at any time.
Another glass down. The fake Papyrus in his head has gone quiet already.
As his hand grasped the other glass of beer, someone sat down next to him.
“S-SANS?”
Dusk nearly spat out his drink, instead he choked it down, causing him to go into a coughing fit.
“SORRY FOR STARTLING YOU! I THOUGHT YOU WERE SOMEONE ELSE!”
He looked over at the person next to him. Oh god yeah, that was a Papyrus.
Why did this one seem so familiar?
He wasn't even wearing his battle body. He was wearing casual everyday clothes.
He looked a lot more rugged than usual with heavy dark circles under his sockets.
This one had LV.
“it's fine.” Is what he wanted to say. Instead his tipsy mind only managed to say “you real?”
He looked so nervous. “I DON’T SEE WHY I WOULDN’T BE?” He squinted at the glasses on the counter. “HOW MUCH HAVE YOU DRANK ALREADY?”
Dusk looked over to count, but he was distracted by the fact he was currently holding a whole bottle of beer in his hand, apparently. He turned his attention to Grillby, confused.
“...” Grillby looked as blank as ever.
“THAT ISN’T AN EXCUSE TO GIVE HIM SO MUCH ALCOHOL!” Papyrus responded. He pinched the bridge of his nose bone and shook his head in disapproval.
What the hell was happening?
Maybe drinking like crazy wasn't a good idea in a completely new world. Ehhh he didn't really care. Oof, his eye sockets were getting heavy.
A nap sounded real good right now, actually. Consequences be damned, he propped his head against the counter and dozed off.
“HE DIDN’T EVEN ORDER FOOD, DID HE?” Papyrus remarked. He knew this Sans wasn't literally the one from his universe, but the second he saw him he knew he was from a similar one.
Obviously he was from a universe where he didn't die by his hand.
It was shameful, knowing that Papyrus never stooped low enough to harm let alone kill his own brother. He was a horrible brother.
As much as Grillby would insist he did what he had to in order to protect the other residents of Snowdin, he still regretted it deeply.
Seeing a version of his brother that probably succeeded in his task didn't change his mind on that at all.
Speaking of Grillby, “I KNOW YOU RECOGNIZED HIM BUT YOU CAN’T JUST GIVE HIM ALL THIS,” he gestured wildly at the group of empty glasses by the sleeping skeleton, “LIKE YOU’RE TRYING TO SEDATE HIM! YOU KNOW HE ISN’T THE SAME ONE.”
Grillby adjusted his glasses even though they were already straight and grabbed one of the cups to start cleaning it.
“I KNOW IT’S WEIRD, THAT DOESN’T CHANGE MY POINT.”
“...”
“I CAN’T JUST WAKE HIM UP THAT’S RUDE.”
“....”
“I’M GOING TO STAY HERE UNTIL HE WAKES UP SO I KNOW HE’S FINE, OBVIOUSLY.”
Grillby paused his glass-cleaning to procure a shot of warm milk for Papyrus.
“I AM NOT PAYING FOR THAT,” he said, before snatching it up and downing it as if it were whiskey.
Grillby gave him a quizzical look.
Papyrus lowered the volume of his voice, which wasn't by much, “Of Course I’m Not Perturbed By Seeing Such A Close Replica Of My Brother That I Brutally Put An End To.”
Grillby got back to cleaning the pile of glasses.
“IT IS JUST A YOU PROBLEM ACTUALLY…SORRY, THAT WAS RUDE. STILL YOUR PROBLEM, THOUGH. THIS SKELETON NEXT TO ME IS A COMPLETE STRANGER, WE’VE NEVER MET HIM,” he said with total confidence that he didn't have.
At the Hub, it was expected to run into other versions of people you knew, but it was basic etiquette to treat them as strangers. You do not assume anything of them because you've never met this version before. Unfortunately, that was harder to uphold when they were from such alike universes.
It wasn't unusual for loved ones from different universes to settle for you if you were similar enough.
Fortunately for Grillby and Papyrus, they didn't really have to deal with that, being the only people from a “Dust” universe to live in the Hub.
But now this Sans is here.
When Dusk finally woke up, the bar was near closing time.
And the Papyrus was still here—oh never mind he bolted out the door the moment he moved.
He sluggishly moved his head towards Grillby, who was probably waiting for him to leave too so he could close.
“sorry,” he slurred. He put a hand on the counter to support himself as got off the stool. He reached into his pockets for gold that wasn't there. Oh yeah.
“my bad, i forgot i didn’t have any g.”
Grillby waved his hand dismissively, or he was shooing him. “...........It's fine.”
Dusk blinked in surprise. “thanks, i’ll uh, bye.” He gave a quick wave before walking quickly out of there, or at least he tried to. He ended up bumping into multiple tables and chairs until he tripped and fell down before he could even make it to the door. He doesn't know how long he napped but clearly he was still drunk.
He stayed on the ground for a moment, internally hyping himself up to stand.
He heard Grillby walk over. Ah, great.
At the very least he managed to flip himself on his back to look up at the fire monster.
For a moment, it felt like he was back in his universe and this Grillby was the one he knew, but he knew he couldn't be. He killed him along with the others.
Although Grillby had an unreadable face—because he didn't have one—Dusk was able to get a good idea about what he was feeling by looking at the pattern of his flames.
Either being drunk skewed his perception or he was reading it wrong, because from what he was seeing, Grillby was concerned for him.
He knew this look well, especially after he started remembering past timelines all of a sudden. Whenever he drank to stop thinking, Grillby would look at him exactly like this and then he'd offer to help him get home. Sometimes he'd try asking what was up. Which was completely in vain.
Usually this was the part he'd kill him.
The two of them stared at each other in silence. They were off script. They didn't know who was going to make the next move.
Until Grillby decided to take the lead. He knelt down by Dusk. His hands reached out to him slowly, ready to draw back if Dusk said anything.
Dusk’s mind unhelpfully insisted Grillby was about to strangle him or something. He stayed still regardless.
Grillby paused and his hands retreated. “...Why are you here?” He stood up.
“had a bad breakup,” he said. It wasn't really a breakup since they were never formally together, but they did separate so that word probably applied to the situation.
Grillby’s head briefly flared up. That could mean a multitude of things so he didn't want to bother assuming what it meant.
“GOOD LORD, HE HASN’T LEFT YET?” Papyrus's voice startled the two as he opened the door. Apparently he hadn't left the vicinity yet. “HONESTLY, OF ALL MONSTERS TO WALTZ IN HERE AND GET BLACKOUT DRUNK…DO YOU EVEN HAVE ANYONE THAT COULD WALK YOU HOME?” He remained outside, only peeking his head in through the door to be heard.
Well Horror probably could, but he had no way of contacting him. He did get that phone. He wasn't sure if he still had it on him and even then he didn't have the number or a phone.
That's a no.
Dusk shook his head even though it was hardly visible to the Papyrus.
Papyrus sighed dramatically. “FINE. AS A RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN I SHALL ACCOMPANY YOU TO YOUR ABODE TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY.”
“i’ll take my chances sleeping on the sidewalk.”
“YOU CAN’T EVEN GET TO THE SIDEWALK ON YOUR OWN.”
“i guess my chances aren't looking too good. my doom is cemented. maybe even set in stone. just leave me here.”
Papyrus groaned at the puns. “I AM GOING TO GO OVER THERE AND PICK YOU UP AND THEN YOU ARE GOING TO DIRECT ME TO YOUR HOUSE, UNDERSTAND?”
“mmmm no.”
Then he was picked up by warm hands. Oh, Grillby picked him up. He walked him over to the door and was handed over to Papyrus.
The second the two were outside, Grillby hastily closed the door.
“the fuck happened to snowdin?” he asked.
Papyrus huffed, “WE AREN’T IN SNOWDIN.”
He took note of the sky. It was sundown. “we made it to the surface?”
“NO.”
“oh.”
“DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHERE YOUR HOUSE IS?”
“shouldn't you know?”
“I’M NOT YOUR BROTHER. YOUR BROTHER IS DEAD. YOU KILLED HIM,” Papyrus said coldly.
Man, his mind was scrambled. For a second he thought there’s been a reset. What timeline was this? No he was kidnapped by Nightmare—and then they were kicked out…Oh yeah. This is the “Hub” or whatever.
He drank way too much.
“i didn't want to…”
“I DIDN’T EITHER! BUT THAT DOESN’T CHANGE IT, NOW DOES IT?!”
He hasn't heard Papyrus get this mad in a while. Wait. “what do you mean you ‘didn't either’?”
Papyrus came to a halt. “IN MY UNIVERSE, I KILLED YOU.”
He may have been drunk out of his mind, but even he knew that didn't sound right. “you wouldn't.”
“WELL, I DID.”
“you can't.”
“CLEARLY I CAN.”
He couldn't even kill the human. How's he supposed to believe he would ever kill him?
“you can't kill the human but you killed me, is that what i’m hearing?”
Papyrus grit his teeth. Despite the conversation, he was still carrying him. “KILLING THEM WASN’T GOING TO STOP THEM. KILLING YOU DID. AND IT WAS AN ACCIDENT.”
“you never have accidents with your magic.”
“YOU DON’T KNOW ME. YOU AREN’T MY BROTHER! YOU CAN’T JUDGE ME ANYWAY.”
“...you can put me down now.”
“YOU’LL FALL ON YOUR FACE. NO.”
Alas, poor Papyrus. It wouldn't matter how much he reminded himself that he wasn't the same Sans. They were so similar to each other's brother.
And he didn't even remember where his new house was. If this turned out to be a torture method that Nightmare came up with, he wouldn't be surprised.
“so what, you're gonna aimlessly carry me around until you happen to find my house?”
“I GUESS SO!”
Of course.
He resumed walking, Dusk decided to accept it. It was an excuse to be lazy. Even though he hasn’t been “lazy” in years.
Then again, he hasn’t been carried by Papyrus like this in years.

Hey pookie bear first of all love your work keep at it! Second of all can you tell us more about your RE:forgotten IF please?? Would love to know about how the other characters react to and feel about what happened to subaru (much love anon)
Okay so I don’t actually have a big outline for a Re:Forgotten Spinoff plot, but what it would basically be — if I were to write it — is an exploration of Subaru’s tendency to forgive truly monstrous crimes committed against him. In canon, that sort of thing largely goes unnoticed because of the whole time travel part of the equation, but Re:Forgotten’s setup is unique in that it allows for all of that to be out front and center-stage for once, and that’s the sort of thing I’d love to take advantage of.
Subaru has not died once, in this fic, even though he has attempted to do so on a couple of occasions. Instead, he has been captured, tortured, neglected, and otherwise abused within the full memories of the people responsible. As such, when their memories of who he is return — well.
Some individual examples of how people react:
Subaru still sees Wilhelm as this amazing older mentor figure who he aspires to become, on some level or another, while just — tactfully ignoring the massive elephant in the room. Wilhelm is getting more and more freaked out by the realization that this is GENUINE. Wilhelm was actually very personally responsible for a lot of Subaru’s abuse here, and now he’s not only being denied a chance to atone for his sins, but the fact that he committed those sins in the first place is… How does he even begin to approach this?
Ferris had to choose between his oath to his Lady and that same Lady’s life, and now he’s facing the realization that his decision to pick the latter was apparently completely useless all along, because torturing Subaru was never going to do anything anyway. Also he nearly drove this man to suicide several times. He is not well. Subaru is openly concerned for his sake, and that makes it even worse.
Subaru refuses to let Ferris or Julius retire from knighthood. It was Julius’ suggestion — the most obvious first step on the path to atonement, given what they just did — but Subaru learned what they were planning and fiercely objected, and — I mean, can you really make a symbolic apology like that if the person you are apologizing to is so adamantly against it? So now Julius is stuck with a title he feels he does not deserve, and also Subaru keeps trying to play fight with him like he did BEFORE Julius — was complicit in abusing him in a dark cell for months on end. Julius does not know what to do.
Emilia said some really mean things to Subaru before he got locked up. Beatrice, too. Subaru won’t even let the two of them apologize for any of it.
Was he always like this…?
