Week 1 - Into the Wild!
The first day conducting field research we wanted to focus on our main interests for our project. We agreed that an AI-based application to create a sensation of help, not to replace therapy, but more companionship would be a suitable idea to pursue, seeing the current situation. For two weeks all citizens, who do not work in a field that is viewed as essential, have been constrained in their homes. When this quarantine will end is uncertain. This to maintain a social distance and avoid the spread of COVID-19. In these moments, people have to start to deal with a situation of isolation. We thought that loneliness and boredom could become a growing problem for general wellbeing.
We wanted to get in touch with a wide variety of people. We got in touch with persons from the age of 14 to 80+. We were interested in how the quarantine is affecting people’s behavior and mood. If the restrictions and disruption to their daily routine would affect them negatively. We thought of a set of questions that could give us a first overview.
·        Who are you? (age, occupation)
·        Who are you spending your quarantine time with?
·        how has your everyday life changed since the quarantine?
·        how does quarantine affect your mood?
·        What do you do to improve your mood at home?
·        Where would you rather be right now?
We wanted to contact workers who are working at home, workers who are still working outside, students, retirees and unemployed. We wanted to discover if there were any patterns with the answers. Our Expectation was to recognize categories of people who react and respond in a similar way (I am fine, I am not fine).
Phone Interviews
David got in contact with seniors who live in a retirement home, through his mother who works there. He conducted 4 interviews through the phone, all respondents were over 80 years old. Two of the three people are fully cared for and the third person lives in an apartment right next to the home. The fully cared for people had difficulty understanding my questions and could not answer open questions. We think it would be better to do something visual and have contact in real life. Because of the coronavirus, we have to find out how this could work best. Cultural probes could be one possibility. Here a snippet from an interview:
vimeo
Getting information from the people in the home was very difficult. A visual Observation in everyday life would be more effective.
Themes: occupation, entertainment, social interaction, time for oneself.
The statements on the phone seemed quite cold. One notices the loneliness and possibly also boredom. The question whether they would appreciate it, if acquaintances would call more often, they would say yes. But can one trust this answer? Do they answer honestly or is it just politeness?
Person 1 Occupation: - Read - Number game (Lotto, Bingo) - Wandering around the home - Set the table! ⇢ Feeling needed.
Person 2 Occupation: - Lying / dozing - „zvieri näh“ - Talking to people - read the Bible The situation is calm and "grave". She prefers to make phone calls. She doesn't want a change now. "It is the way it is" is probably the most heard sentence in the conversations. She says the situation hasn't changed much since the quarantine: she still and always felt a sense of helplessness. She takes each day as it comes and still is alone. Residents have the same perception of the atmosphere in the home as before.
Person 3 Terrible not being able to see anyone. Still meets with the neighbors. No longer allowed to have lunch with the other residents. "Unecessary information" comunicated. When I was asking if she is using the phone, she told me about her phone provider and how much it costs, even thought that was not part of the conversation.
Person 4 Made more shopping, to prepare. Everything is still working normally. Says that 15 and 16 year olds have no trouble at all.

Instagram Poll
Tumblr media
We decided to ask three short questions in our Instagram poll, here are the answers we got:
How has the quarantine affected your routine?
From lab work to home office for paper research and report writing, from fitness center to jogging and online courses
Routine has become really important to keep the feet on the ground
Home School :D
Can’t go outside for no reason, little afraid to visit my parents and sad that I can’t see my
grampy’s
Saving time and money. At work: slowly losing immediacy with clients and colleagues
I can not meet my friends and family :’(
I have exams in June and I have no clue of what will happen because I’m doing online school but it’s literally 2 hours a day (I live in Italy)
All activities acquired the same value: it’s not worse to wash the dishes than take care of plants
I have more time, I go to sleep later however less structure
Watching Netflix more
I’m more concentrated during lessons
0 change. I’m a natural isolationist. I was born to do this.
Got more time to read and spend in the kitchen now
Almost nothing changed
I have to practice stuff for work at home but the crying ain’t helping (hairdresser)
I discovered that I’m a morning person, I started making the bed
100% smart work, self-quarantine for every individual of the family
How do you entertain yourself or improve mood during the quarantine?
Playing chess
Watching Netflix
Watch “dumbest purchases I made in my 20s” videos to feel better about myself
Self-penetration
More cooking and eating
Dreaming of me jogging
I plant mushrooms in my garden
Drinking alcohol
Youtube workouts and yoga apps
Watching porns
Playing switch, doing sports and reading books
Scrolling through social media, chat a lot, movies, sit on the balcony, rearrange and clean home
Playing sims
Online apéros
How does quarantine affect your mood and why?
Negatively because I can’t go to restaurants/clubs or travel
I am nervous cause I see the same people all the time and staying in the same rooms
All good
Everything is fine, I work from home but at the weekends it gets harder and if the weather is bad
Feeling balanced, try to keep daily routine (work, sport and social contact)
I recognise that I can’t go outside, especially in the evenings I am tired
Sitting in front of a computer the hole day is exhausting
My mind is very relaxed, because I don’t hear the word corona all the time
Sometimes a bit lonely, then I call someone, and I am happy again
There is nothing better than this situation, let’s go for a drink after everything
Doesn’t affect me, because I throw a corona party every weekend
I can still work, so I am not that quarantined. I know what to do
The quarantine is not the thing that is annoying, it is the way how we have to work from home, everyone expects you to be online 24/7
More difficulties to get up in the morning, more exhausted in the evening
Sometimes I feel irritable or anxious, but most of the time I feel relaxed and good
I am not in quarantine I have to work
I watch more Netflix
Video Diary
youtube
Ramona asked a friend of hers to document her day with her phone camera. This was a quite playfull and fun way to discover the routine of a student who now has to stay home, for both us researchers and for the subject. In the video she says she mostly works on her computer. To lift her mood she goes outside in the garden to catch some sunlight. She’s trying to stay positive and that seems to work.
Google Survey
Click here to see all the answers. 61% answered positively - they are well 19% answered negatively - they are not doing well 19% answered positively and negatively. Either they are doing medium well, or they are slowly getting quiet, or sometimes good and sometimes bad. 71% of the people left their contact datas, if we want to contact for new survey.
Feedback from a psychologist: “What answers do you hope to get? Maybe give someone to read again, so that it is clear, everyone is understood correctly. Questions 1 and 3 are a bit similar. If you want to get more out, a reward would be helpful. From a psychological point of view what is important is anonymity, if any sentence is written that the whole thing will be treated anonymously if you don't give your email address. Added: either people don't fill this out if they think it’s too uncomfortable. Answers become more honest when anonymity is guaranteed”
Feedback from a anonym participant: “Quantitative surveys are easier to evaluate with multiple choice questions.” A lot of participants left their email address if we wanted to contact them. We were quite surprised how many participants left their contact.
Send a picture of what you are doing
Tumblr media
We asked 13 people to send us a picture of what they are doing. Most of them are young adults, some of them are employees, most are student. We can see that most of them stay in front of a screen. Some are playing board games, other are cooking, taking a break of pursuing their hobbies.
Facebook livestream
Tumblr media
We saw in this facebook group that many users did livestreams. They talked about their personal lives and communicated with the viewers who were commenting. We tried to go live and engage in a conversation with the members of that Facebook group. To start a conversation and get viewers to answer questions was very hard. This is probably because the main focus of such a livestream is the livestramer and not the viewers.
Why did we select those highlights?
Instagram Story Questions We liked the spontaneous answers people gave us. Also the length of the answers is limited so people have to focus on the core of their statement.
Google Forms Survey Interesting more in depth answers. It is easy to share the survey link and therefore can reach people outside of our bubble.
Video Interview The interviewed people are more freely to communicate compared to a phone call. They can show environments or objects through the camera. Furthermore the interviewer and the participant are “closer” together.
Audio Interview Negative highlight. It should that not every medium works for every target audience. Elderly or children would probably benefit from communication mediums where they don’t have to articulate sentences.
Were the expectations fulfilled?
Like expected the answers to our questions were very different. Most people were relaxed and others are scared and sad about the quarantine. Most people know how to entertain them self. Most people feel bad to have social distance and are afraid of infecting someone.
Which changes have to be made?
We need to find a better way to improve trust, so that we are able to ask morepersonal questions. Furthermore we need a better way to express more “hard to explain” topics like loneliness in the online medium. Maybe it would be a good idea to have group discussions and we as the interviewers stay in the background. Especially when talking about difficult topics.
Older people (some have slightly dementia) are having difficulties to answer to open questions. Furthermore they are not so technical advanced that they could use smartphones or other tools to communicate in a more visual way. A way to get a better understanding of their situation would probably be cultural probes. Unfortunately we can not meet them in person, due to the coronavirus.
We want to test if anonymity could help to communicate more personal topics.
What could be the next steps for field research?
Inform better about the topic communication.
Discovery: What is on the market that is used for communicating online or online multiplayer games.
Explore how people in different living situations (home-schooled, home-office, still working outside, retired and unemployed) use communication tools (which ones? for what purpose? how often?)
Unpack your topic further, see what angle you would like to look into
Playful humorous communication, connect people who are in a similar situation orhave similar interests and bring them to communicate and play with each other.
How do you want to get in touch with people online? How do you find your online community?
Contact people we personally know
Use Online Forms
Use social media to find interested people
Friends of friends
Public online groups
What type of media could you use to collect and record your impressions (chats, online video, sound, a mix of different media, etc..)
Chat
Video Interview (single and groups)
Telephone Interviews
Video or Photo diary
Cultural Probes (notebook, drawing and writing down thoughts, giving theminstructions on the pages)

100 Followers Spotlight: @simplyaiden-blog
Hello Hello Hello … is this mic on? Yes? Great! I have a treat for you today! Especially if you’re a Drake or a Damien fan.  Today, I am here to interview the talented, fun-loving, and fabulous @simplyaiden-blog AKA Krystal AKA Krys.
Krys, would you join me on the stage?  While she walks up here, let me tell you just a few things about her.
Krys is PhD candidate studying biomedical science with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease. That’s right, we have another super smart lady in the house!
When I first talked to Krys, she claimed that she is not really a content creator, but the quick search I did on her blog told me a very different story.  Of course, @tmarie82 also knew better – she was the winner of the 100 Follower give-away and, thus, was the one who told me to interview Krys. (To understand how this interview came about and to learn more about @tmarie82, please see this post.)  When pressed I finally got Krys to own that her biggest claim to fame is coming up with Santiago Cabrera as the Damien faceclaim.
And what a claim to fame this is!  Here is the post.  This post has more notes than I have followers!  (With a faceclaim like that – I can’t be mad at it!)
Krys will also admit that she sometimes post pictures of things that happened in the book of TRR but through real photos, like drinking whiskey with Drake in Olivia’s cellar, polar plunge, and Drake smirking (with Michiel Huisman as my Drake).
Please give a huge round of applause to Krys before we start our interview!
MFackenthal:  So tell me, How did you come up with the face claim for Damien?
Krys: Honestly, a lot of googling. Since I found out Damien was Puerto Rican, I basically did a nose dive on google images looking at Spanish actors and then I found him!
While I thought he was perfect, I found some others that could work, I wanted to give people options, and did a poll on here.  He was overwhelmingly the #1 choice.
MFackenthal: If someone else wanted to ask you to create/find a face claim for them, would you?
Krys: Oh my goodness! Getting to look at hot celebs while also fulfilling my need to talk about choices? Undoubtedly, YES!!
MFackenthal: How did you find choices?
Krys: Honestly? I had decided to check the App Store for free games and it was like #33 or something like that.  I thought, “A story I can control - let see what it’s about.”  And then I started playing the books and got hooked; especially TRR. I’ve literally played each book 3 times and each chapter 4 or 5 times and still needed more, I needed more Drake in my life.
MFackenthal:  Now that’s a sentiment I can relate to.  In fact, I may need to go to Choices Addiction (CA) meetings!
Krys: Seriously, I cannot get enough of that man. He is my ride or die. The love I have for him is very unhealthy. My fiancé doesn’t understand.
MFackenthal: How did you get connected to the choices fandom?
Krys: So, like I said, my love for Drake knew no bounds and I needed more.  I knew fanfiction was a thing so I started googling for “Drake Walker.”  @mrswalkerwrites was the first blog to come up and I devoured literally everything Drake related she wrote.  After that, I decided to just join a few months ago, and the rest is history.
MFackenthal: Is there anything you're thinking about adding content wise to the fandom? Are you a writer who just hasn't published yet? (hint hint nudge nudge)
Krys: Mmmaaaayyyybbbeeee …. I’m a scientist not a writer so I’ve never seen myself writing fiction.   But then a couple of days ago I had a dream about Drake and I had to write it down (took me an hour or so to jot everything that happened down). It might turn into a story, who knows @tmarie82 might help me with it.
MFackenthal: What is something you would like to say to the choices fandom?
Krys: Oh my goodness, the choices fandom has honestly been such a blessing. I needed an outlet to talk about my obsession because my fiancé and my friends did not understand the appeal one bit. But it was something I loved and needed to talk to someone! And I found you guys! You have all been so nice, and welcoming, and fracking hilarious with your posts and conversations. All the writers and artists are so talented, I can’t even stand it. From expanding on chapters in the book to writing AUs to OCs. The plethora of talent in this fandom just boggles my mind. And it’s an honor to be a part of it all and to have a few people here I can call friends. I LOVE THEM ALL! And I also blame the writers for enabling my Drake obsession … Like I said, I loved Drake Walker before, but with all the fanfiction I’ve read, it’s definitely gone above and beyond.
MFackenthal: How do you find time to yourself to read fanfics when your fiancé is around?
Krys: Hahaha, @tmarie82 got to you, didn’t she?!
MFackenthal: Mmmaaaayyyybbbeeee …. If "got to you" means she asked me to ask you and I immediately added it to the list of interview questions. (wink)
Krys:  Honestly, that girl is my absolute favorite. Anyways, normally, when he and I aren’t doing stuff, he’ll be on his phone playing hearthstone, which gives me time to read my fanfics … but he can only do that for so long … so, I’ll hide in the bathroom.
MFackenthal:  I’d laugh at that, but I have to admit I have been known to do that too!
Krys:  One time I was in the bathroom for like 30 minutes and he came in to check on me to make sure I was okay.  I didn’t even have to go, I just went in there to get more time and so he wouldn’t bother me.  He was like “are you okay, you’ve been in there awhile?”
Basically, I was like, “oh yeah, sorry just got distracted.”
And he was like “distracted by what?”
“I was reading.”
And he said, “… about Michiel?”
And I’m like, “No, about Drake!”
But, I’m just so proud in the moment that he now knows what faceclaiming is.
And he was like, “Well you faceclaimed Michiel for Drake so isn’t it the same thing?”
And I laugh and think to myself, “Touché fiancé, touché.”
So yeah, he sort of just rolls with it. I think I’m really lucky that way.
MFackenthal:  I’m sure he’s the lucky one!  Krys, I want to thank you so much for your time today and for all that you contribute to this Choices Tumblr Fandom.
Everyone, please give @simplyaiden-blog a round of applause!  And if you haven’t already, check her out, follow her posts, and help @tmarie82 and I encourage her to write her first fic!
Thank you all for coming!  Thank you for following me!  I’ll see you at 200 followers with another interview contest!  If you really like this, let me know.  I could easily be convinced to do it every 50 followers.  Just let me know if you’d like that.  In the meantime, I’ll also be looking for other ways to highlight the work of all of you amazing content creators! Thank you and good night!

Nicolas Connor Barnes
My mom named me after the actor Nicolas Cage and I hate it, its horrible. Also my dad apparently named me after Sinéad O'Connor you know who she is? the one who sang “Cause nothing compares to you” that girl who is now a crack head so my dad just pulled her last name and put it in mine. Anyway that’s my name.
Tell me about your family?
My Mom’s family is a bunch of crack heads. My dad’s side obviously don’t know my dad, but I still keep in contact with my Aunty, Uncle, Grandma and Grandpa from that side. My mom was a single mom, she remarried. But besides all that they are all from Australia and just plain white.
Describe your aesthetic
Extra , Boujee, Colourful would you say I’m colourful
What do you mean by colourful?
Like I have a lot of colours, like yellows and blues and purples.
Oh like you’re colour palette?
Yes, so yeah I said colourful, would you describe my style as designer? Like is that a thing?
What designer brands are you into?
Gucci, Louis Vuitton, love me some Prada, Dior, Chanel, Dolce, Versace, Bottega Venetta, Jimmy Choo, Fendi, I could be here all day.
So just anything designer essentially?
Of course
So obviously we have known each other since high school, and we have seen a lot of our friends change dramatically, so my question is do you think you have changed since high school up until now? Or even seen a change during high school?
I think I have definitely started to come out of my shell more, like I felt more comfortable to kind of wear what I want, I don’t give a fuck now, like I don’t care if you don’t like it, If I wanted to wear a fur coat to class bitch I will and I’ve done it.
Through this project I have been reflecting back in year 9 till like both of us in our 2nd year of Uni
Oh I had terrible style in year 9, actually I think we all did, we all thought we were hot fly and sexy.
How would you describe your sense of humour?
Certainly very dark and inappropriate, but also like I find very immature things quite funny. You know actually imma go real deep here, the reason I think I enjoy immature jokes is cause I never got the chance to be immature as a kids and that’s a fact. Hit the dong on the head with that. But yeah that’s the thing with you and I, feel like we both missed out on our childhood’s and kind of being a kid almost, so yeah that’s probably why I’m the way I am. I find certain stuff really funny but at the same time very mature for my age.
Do you feel like people don’t like that?
Mainly people would just say oh you can’t laugh at that. But I would generally say it turns some people off but at the same time I don’t really care, I’ll do what I want.
In regards to your humour and perdsonality do you feel like you need to hold back at times?
I just don’t care. If you don’t like my humour you can just fuck off somewhere else. Like what I find very self deprecating humour funny some people obviously don’t and like I find that very funny and if don’t like it its not my problem.
So tell me, what are your influences?
In terms of what like in life?
Yeah, before we get into like you’re aesthetic influences, I would love to know your life influences or even you why
Definitely my mother, 100% my mom and also just my self influence of wanting to do well for myself. But its definitely because of my mom I am where I’m at, she’s the only influence I need.
What actually got you into designer clothes?
This is going to sound really stupid, but around the time of year 11 was when I started to become interested in it. And around that time I started watching, this is so terrible, I started watching you know house wives and all of their designer wear,  it was all a different world to me. So I would be like ooh I like that and would google it have a look at the website and find more stuff and then it was a continuous thing, each week a new episode would come out you would see it. Also a lot of the music I listen to its all about the Gucci bags and all of that. It wasn’t until about year 13 my last year of high school I started to watch more Youtube luxury videos of like unboxings, but yeah in year 13 was when I was like I really want these things but can’t afford them. And I actually started to buy fake designer items. And that was around about 6 months and then I stopped, got myself a nice little collection, then once we came out of lockdown the following year, I had all this money and I was like you know what I always wanted to go and buy something and that’s where it started and it hasn’t stopped. So now I don’t buy any fake designer items my stuff is real. A lot of people can call me shallow or whatever but in a way that’s what I put value and that’s my pride, happy and joy.
Do you feel like you value objects more than people?
Yes omg facts, and they wont turn your back on you they will be right where you left them yesterday.
I know you mentioned before that one of your first designer influences was house wives, what actually got you into the show?
I still watch them, it was because I had a lot going on for me personally during that time, and for me that show even today its the same reason, you see a bunch of people fighting all the time, they go on holiday, they go shopping, and that is a life, not like what I want to have but a life you can almost live by curiously through, so I can put my shit on the side and invest in someone else’s drama, cause its not my drama so I can watch you fight and its not my problem. And it just spiralled out of control but like I have a picture of fucking  Lil’ Kim on my wall dressed in Chanel like she is obviously an influence on me and so is foxy brown. And if whoever asked who are your style icons and I know they are woman and we cannot wear the same things, I mean we could but it would be very strange, but those are my style influences.
I know in this day of age a lot of people are crossing those gender boundaries when it comes to style, is that something you would want to explore?
Like would I want walk across the street in heels, no. Thats not for me but I generally feel once I move out of home, cause my mom does make some comments on what I buy and decide to wear, but once I do move out of home I will be able to wear more. Im not huge on purses or anything like that not for me. Honey I sit there all the time looking at them, like they are so beautiful. But still not for me, but still there are some for when I do move out of home then I may be able to start looking into that more. I more kind of want to explore that unisex area of more feminine fashion but also masculine at the same time. I wouldn’t go for a purse which is feminine but I just want that balance.
Would you use/wear a purse or like have them on display?
Like look at my Chanel bag I’ve never warn, but yeah once I do move out of home there are bags I do want like the Chanel Boy bag, its not a super feminine its more one of the masculine bags they have but it certainly not a ‘guys’ bag. It’s probably one of those things that I will grow into at some stage.
Theres certainly a scale of some kind of  masculinity and Femininity what are your personal thoughts on that and where would you fall on that scale?
Personally for me, Im certainly not the most masculine fellow out there but there are way more feminine people than me as well, but I would say I’m in the middle but leaning more towards the masculine. Im certainly in that middle point because there are some part of me that can be quite feminine.
So yeah back when we talked about Influences you talked about housewives and but then mentioned a bit about music so tell me more
I listen to a lot of current things when I was young like whatever Britney Spears had put out, whatever was just on the radio, we didn’t have Spotify or anything like that, and then it go into 2014 I got very interested in Nicki Minaj, she’s kind of into her fashion as well but I didn’t really take any notice of her. This is really strange but I found out about Lil’ Kim cause they both had beef, instantly liked Lil’ Kim more than Niki Minaj, and that’s when I began to notice she was a bit more out there. One of the first songs I listened to by Lil’ Kim the first line was “Being the first rap bitch to rock Chanel” and it was just very prevalent, and even all of her outfits and everything was very extra.
What Is the main difference between Lil’ Kim and Niki Minaj?
Honestly they are quite similar to each other, and thats why they had problems. For example Doja Cat, I almost would say Niki Minaj, Cardi B and Doja Cat are in the same box in terms of how they are very poppy, rappy. But Lil’ Kim is outta of the hood, and she’s never really done like pop music its very hardcore rap. Same with Foxy Brown, again all hardcore rap and even some of their music has heavy depth. I was thinking there’s a quote by Foxy Brown “And if you only knew I hold my minks at nights with cheap, Or no other hands can hold me right” Things like that are just like ouch, like I feel that. Obviously they are both very like into their designer labels so I was like me too. I just love that they don’t keep it PG and I can relate to that as I’m very outspoke myself. I just love me some hood music.
Yeah and you just started recently going clubbing now too
Yeah I got to the point where I was like you know what I need to experience it at least once before I’m too old, and now I just keep going. I actually saw old videos of me slut dropping and back in that moment I thought I was hot as fuck but after seeing that not anymore.
What Clubs do you go to?
One of the first places I went to was Shadows which in enjoyed since they played early 2000s music I was all up in on that. Went to Ding Dong, it was creepy, didn’t like it, it was a very satanic vibe. It was an underground bar with a bunch of strip polls and shit like that, it was weird. Bar 101 is terrible, been once and never again. Went to Cassette for like 4 hours, Cassette was so much fun and then I went to Family Bar for like the rest if the night. But yeah my main bar/club is Family Bar. Even though there is just drugs everywhere shirtless people like where am I.
What you mentioned before about once you move out and have more freedom where do you see yourself in that future ahead?
Hopefully I will be graduated by then. I really don’t think my style is going to changed its just going to be more of it. Alot more outfits, shoes, bags, hopefully some diamonds. Love me some diamonds. Me as a person, I don’t think I’m going to change much either, I say that because I look at everyone else I grew up with especially  from high school I would say everyone changed completely compared to myself, some for better some for worst. I’ve felt like I’ve been consistent with who I am, so I don’t think that’s gonna change. I’ve never had that rebellious phase that most of us goes through. I had to keep it real, having that childhood innocence taken from you and having to be mature early on, theres no room for that rebellious side, there’s so many bigger things in life than just vaping and doing that shit. But like I still have my fun you know, just have my head screwed on straight.
How have you coped with this current lockdown?
I’ll be honest with you, I’ve really struggled with this lockdown. Like I just don’t wanna do anything, I will literally just sit here dead sad, so I just start drinking and I will just drink, like last night I got fucked. I’ve drank everyday, I’ve finished a bottle of grey goose in a couple of days. I’m just really struggling but I know once this lockdown is over, my life will pick itself over. Im not worried I will become like an alcoholic or something but its been rough.
Tell me about your Instagram Lux with Nico
Oh no, oh god, okay well its my Instagram page, which I haven’t on for a long time. It was a way for me to get into the community of designer lovers, like I’ve met some amazing people through it. Especially here in New Zealand, people don’t really get the whole designer thing.  My mom is always like what the fuck, why do you need this, and a lot of my friends don’t understand it either but they kind of accepted it but I do feel some sort of judgement from some people, they just don’t get it. So its nice to have that community not in a bragging kind of way like omg I brought a Gucci bag, and there’s other people excited for you and when they get something you get excited for them, and its a nice community to be apart of it. You get to see a lot of other peoples things and they get to see yours and you can get into those conversations. It’s nice but it always does has it dark side to it, its like a blog and you are wanting that blog to grow and they only way for it to grow is when you buy things. So I felt this kind of self pressure to be like “omg I haven’t gotten anything a new thing in like a week, what am I gonna post” so then I would go look at Prada like go looking for anything to buy just so I can upload something, to keep growing my account. Cause I did this everyday for awhile, and I just ran out of things. You look at other peoples accounts and they buy like Louis Vuitton bag like every week. I came to realise that was very fucking stupid, you should only buy things that you want and can afford. So yeah there is that dark side to it and you can go down that hole, you feel like you have to buy things for other people to look at. Which really it’s not what it’s about.
Do you wish to continue with that account and going into that social media realm?
I do, but I got this point where I ran out of things to post about. Like do I start posting pictures of the same thing but in a different angle? I mean I’ve brought things that I haven’t posted. But for me if i’m going to start posting again, I want it to be regular thing. And yeah I can post maybe weekly and space it out but you can’t really grow your account, you need to be very consistent if you want your account to really grow. I got to like 300 followers in a month, like I know that’s not huge and that’s even 3 times that what I have on my own personal account. After awhile the numbers were kind of slowish because you reach all the people that are interested in your shit. More people did come and I even had people like I had this girl who did custom designs on designer items and I had people like that who reached out to me, being like “oh we love your collection, we would love to do this for you etc” that’s stuff is nice and all but I did get to the point where I was like I don’t know what else to do here.
Using your imagination is there anything else you would love to do besides posting of your designer items etc? Like even create your own stuff?
I would love to make my own collection of something, actually I would love to sell shoes, like design my own shoes. Would love love to do that, but then i’m like how would even start that sort of thing, would people even buy my shit.
Would you say your favourite designer item is shoes?
Well, the only things i’ve brought this year have been all shoes. I mean I love my shoes, that’s my thing.
And on top of all of that your studying psychology
Yeah I’m wanting to get into the Clinical side of psychology, I’m currently in my 2nd year doing a bachelor  of Psychology at University of Auckland. I think the reason of me wanting to get into that field stems from childhood things, like all of the people studying psychology are fucked up so. But yeah I would love to help someone else and give them that second chance. Currently at the moment we are doing a section on relationships and intimacy, I would love to be a relationship therapist that would be great, like that to me is super interesting.
Why are you more interested in the relationship side of psychology?
Don’t know really, just very interesting to me, seeing how relationships work through its ups and downs and all that kind of stuff. And for order for me to get into Clinical I will need to get a PHD and write a whole thesis, so I was kind of thinking of doing something on the lines of retail therapy, and I feel that would be very interesting for me to explore in a psychological level.
So I know you are wanting to become a psychologist after your studies but do you think you would ever get into designing your own stuff like you mentioned before?
I would love to have my own brand or design something, that’s not a realistic goal though. You have to work fucking hard, everyone will say the work you put into is what you get out of it. You can put your heart and soul and even money all kinds of shit, but if no one buys you’re shit you’re not successful. So half of it is yeah people have to like it and want to buy it cause otherwise you ain’t going to be making shit. But if you go into a job in like psychology there is good money associated with and there is money for it, so for me that’s the most financially responsible decision.
Were you born here in New Zealand?
Yeah I’m actually from Palmerston North, we lived briefly in Rotorua and then lived in Auckland up until now. I don’t really have a sense of belonging to a particular place, like Auckland yeah I grew up in the city and I have respect towards it but I don’t wanna live here, but also know that I’m very luck and very thankful for being in Auckland cause I don’t not think I could survive anywhere else. I know that sounds terrible but like Wellington I don’t like the atmosphere, Christchurch is the same. And anything smaller than that no thanks, we live in the city and I’m very thankful for that, we’re in the most established place in the country, and I’m grateful that I live here in Auckland. Im a mother fucking city girl.
Do you wanna move outside of New Zealand then?
I know for a fact I do not want to stay here, I would actually love to live in Dubai or like Sidney or even London. Theres nothing really keeping me here in New Zealand, like I don’t have a huge family or anything and the opportunities here are very far in-between, cause I do feel like in New Zealand there’s a certain place you can end up, and no room for growth but I feel like in other countries there’s more opportunities, more money to be made and even more places you can go. So that my reason.
Like you mentioned before about not having a lot of family holding you here, I know for a lot of people they are rooted to where they come from and have that connection what are your thoughts on that?
Yeah I just feel like this is where I live and that’s about it, I don’t see myself being here forever.
Do want that family aspect like in your future would like to start your own family?
I think so, I want to find a place where I can call my own, I mean you never know once you explore the world. Its quite interesting thinking about life like that. Yeah I’ve never realised how much your childhood affects you in your adult life until now. Especially of the way I am, that I’m very closed off. I do have that part of me that wishes for a family which I didn’t have growing up but then at the same time I’ve gone along time without it so why do I need it. Honestly I feel like would be a good parent but I don’t think I would want children, cause I would always try to do the best for my children and at the same time I don’t have real desire to have them.
How are you with people Generally?
Oh still hate people, I think everyone is a piece of shit.
Final question of the day but what are your life goals?
Having a job, be financially stable and just do the best I can for me personally. I know that sounds very boring and cliché but that’s the truth.

Note
Clarke and Bellamy write for different websites and accidentally end up in a competition of who can write/get away with the most ridiculous headlines.
Clarke understands why people hate clickbait headlines. She really does. They’re attention-grabbing in all the worst ways, and she hates when they make someone who’s doing good out to be an asshole, or imply that gluten murdered someone’s entire family or whatever.
But as a writer? They’re really fun to come up with. She loves figuring out the right angle to sell things, and given she ends up writing a lot of bullshit, filler articles, it’s nice to come up with a good lead.
There’s an argument to be made that she’s tricking people, but, honestly, clicking on an article in error really isn’t so bad, in a global sense. Anyone who’s seriously upset that they wasted two minutes of their lives reading something they didn’t want to probably would have clicked on an article with an accurate headline to complain about the content anyway.
Besides, ad revenue is ad revenue. She knows what her job is, and it’s not keeping people from leaving outraged comments about how she deceived them with her headlines.
In fact, that’s kind of a bonus.
She’s idly vanity-googling herself when she finds a twitter poll titled “Whose clickbait headlines are better/worse, Bellamy Blake or Clarke Griffin?” and that’s what really kicks the whole thing into high gear.
The poll is neck-in-neck, which is of course the biggest issue. If Clarke was winning handily, she could let it go, but there’s actual debate in the responses, people making cases for her versus this unknown person.
It doesn’t take much to bring out Clarke’s competitive spirit. Clarke has her competitive spirit on speed dial.
The first step is obviously figuring out who Bellamy Blake is and what headlines they’re writing, and that’s pretty easy. He writes for Arkadia Online, which is–unexpected. She’s heard of Arkadia Online, and they have a somewhat older demographic, one of those websites that talks a lot of shit about millennials, and judging from Bellamy’s twitter and articles, he is a millennial, and he doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the brand. He’s a good writer, just nothing like any of the other Arkadia Online staff.
And his headlines really are something else.
It’s not just that they’re clickbaity, it’s that they’re actually inaccurate. It started, from what she can tell, with an article he published after the 2016 election, titled World’s Best Brownies, written in the style of one of those recipe blogs that refuses to just get to the actual recipe. The vast majority of the post was a long diatribe about the political state of the country and how shitty everything was and then finally, at the end, So yeah, let’s eat some fucking brownies, and the recipe.
The response had been mixed, to say the least, and now Bellamy has a reputation as the guy who injects politics into everything, and Clarke can’t say he doesn’t deserve it. An article called Top Five Cutest Kittens includes five adorable kittens, but they’re used as palate cleaners between examples of police brutality. It does seem like a bit of a cruel trick to Clarke, but as soon as anyone clicks in, he’ll have a subtitle with the actual content of the article, for anyone who bothers to read it.
Still, when Clarke wants cute kittens, it’s because she knows she needs a break from the garbage fire that is the world, so she wouldn’t really appreciate getting baited and switched like that.
Even if he does have excellent taste in kitten pictures.
Emailing Bellamy happens without her really meaning it to, clicking on his address at the end of the post and writing the subject line: is what you do actually clickbait? before she’s actually come up with any kind of follow-up message.
She stares at the body of the message for a second, then finds the link for the Twitter poll and pastes it in, adding, Asking for the internet.
It’s one of those emails she sends without really expecting to get a response. Obviously, she wouldn’t mind getting one, but the email is out in the ether. The ball is in Bellamy Blake’s court, and he might just file it away as spam or hate mail or something. If she got a message from an unknown person with that subject line, she’d probably assume it was someone yelling at her and delete it.
Maybe she could have thought that one through a little more.
In fact, though, it’s only about half an hour before he responds, and suddenly they’re corresponding, which she should have recognized as the warning sign it was almost immediately. But she’s always been a little slow with these things.
From: Bellamy Blake ([email protected])To: Clarke Griffin ([email protected])Subject: Re: is what you do actually clickbait?
Merriam Webster defines clickbait as “something (such as a headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest,” so after some consideration I’ve decided that what I do is actually reverse clickbait. The headline is designed to make people click, but the content isn’t of dubious value. Hope that clears everything up.
From: Clarke Griffin ([email protected])To: Bellamy Blake ([email protected])Subject: Re: is what you do actually clickbait?
Did you really start a response with “Merriam Webster defines”? Not doing that is like journalism 101.
From: Bellamy Blake ([email protected])To: Clarke Griffin ([email protected])Subject: Re: is what you do actually clickbait?
Punctuation goes inside the quotation marks, if we’re doing writing critique over email.
From: Clarke Griffin ([email protected])To: Bellamy Blake ([email protected])Subject: Re: is what you do actually clickbait?
According to Purdue University, question marks and exclamation points go outside of quotation marks when the punctuation applies to the whole sentence.
Hope that clears everything up

She’s expecting that to be the end of it, less because they were both kind of assholes and more because there isn’t really anything else to say. They had a conversation, and that conversation is now over. She follows him on Twitter, because he does seem decently cool, and she’s a little curious what else he’s going to write. Friends don’t let friends miss out on weird headlines.
He follows her back, and two days later DMs her, which she’s maybe unreasonably excited about.
bellamyblake1: So if you were writing an article about getting rid of the electoral college, which fall fashion trend would you reference in the headline?Asking for a friend
edenclarke: What are the fall fashion trends I’m picking from?
bellamyblake1: ShitI was hoping you’d know someScarves? I feel like I don’t understand when/why people wear scarves nowThat probably makes them a fashion trend
edenclarke: WowYou really thought this one through
bellamyblake1: “Five Scarves You Need This Holiday Season”That works, right?
edenclarke: You know, I’ve looked at the rest of your websiteIt’s very normalHow do you possibly get away with this?
bellamyblake1: I write very normal articlesThey love themI’m hitting a demographic they don’t know how to reachThey feel my puff pieces appeal to women and millennials
edenclarke: So no one actually reads what you write
bellamyblake1: Not for a whileMy best friend is our tech guyHe does all the coding, checks the email, etc etcEveryone else on staff is a technophobeAnd coming from me that’s saying a lot because I’m still scared of twitter
edenclarke: That’s not technophobia, that’s survival instinctEveryone should be scared of twitterSo you get away with those headlines because no one’s paying attention? That makes me feel better
bellamyblake1: What’s that supposed to mean?
edenclarke: I actually have editors reading my stuffI couldn’t get away with the stuff you get away with
bellamyblake1: Oh yeah that makes senseI figured you weren’t really committed to the whole thing
Clarke frowns at the screen. It’s a trap. She knows it’s a trap. He’s obviously fucking with her, and she deserves it, since she was kind of fucking with him. She can let this go and be a smarter, more mature person.
edenclarke: Not really committed?
bellamyblake1: You’re just in it for the clicks
edenclarke: As opposed to you, with your higher moral calling
bellamyblake1: Hey, I’m convincing people to read stuff that’s good for themI’m okay with considering that a higher moral calling
edenclarke: Sometimes people might actually want to see a bunch of cat picturesIt’s not actually fair to make them read about politics when they’re trying to take a break
bellamyblake1: TrueBut in my defense, I do show them the cat picturesI found five scarf pictures on my own, by the waySo thanks for nothing
edenclarke: No problemAny time
*
That’s basically how it goes, for the next couple months. The two of them will chat every few days about the next ridiculous headline they’re planning to use, each of them egging the other on to new heights, and Clarke’s always expecting someone with some kind of authority to protest to what they’re doing, but some of the weirdos on twitter have taken notice of the escalation and are talking about it a lot, so her bosses are happy, and Bellamy’s paper seems to genuinely have no idea what he does. They still think he’s writing lifestyle articles instead of attempting to incite revolution.
It’s kind of cool, but a little–unsatisfying. Clarke likes Bellamy, in a fairly limited sense, but her internet stalking hasn’t really turned up much about him. Pictures from college show an attractive, smiling boy with messy hair and white teeth, but she hasn’t found further records of him. He’s a few years older than her, apparently single, with a younger sister who likes to make fun of him on twitter.
She thinks she might like him, but it feels like she needs more information to really make up her mind about it. And she’d like to get it, so she can stop having these fluttery feelings every time she sees his name. Those can’t be right.
Still, when he DMs her, it still makes her heart skip every time. And when she sees the message, Hey you’re in Seattle, right?, it goes into overdrive.
edenclarke: StalkerYeahWhy?
bellamyblake1: I’m going to be in town next weekInterview
edenclarke: Interview? You’re leaving behind the exciting world of online journalism?
bellamyblake1: Even betterI might get hired as an actual political writerInstead of lifestyleNot that I mind lifestyle, but
edenclarke: Yeah, your heart seems to be somewhere elseSo you might be relocating?
bellamyblake1: MaybeIt’s mostly online so they don’t require movingBut they prefer it and my lease is up in a month or so and I kind of hate LA
edenclarke: Wow, yeahI can’t imagine you living there
bellamyblake1: I grew up hereBut I’m thinking it might be time for a changeAnyway, I was hoping you’d be willing to meet upShow me around town a littleSell me on the placeOr not, I guess, depending on how you feel about me moving there
edenclarke: I can probably pencil you in, yeahSend me your flight detailsAnd scheduleWe’ll see when we’re both free
The next few days feel endless. Bellamy’s coming in on Saturday afternoon and staying until Wednesday, to get the best deal on flights. When she offers to grab drinks with him after he lands, he agrees, and asks if she would have time on Sunday to do some sightseeing.
She agrees to that too, and can’t help hoping they won’t actually have to meet up on Sunday, because she will have just brought him home with her. He’s got an Air BnB, but she can’t help thinking she’s a better prospect.
Saturday afternoon she throws up an article while he’s on the plane, goes for a run in an attempt to calm her nerves, and heads over to the bar once Bellamy texts that he’s on the ground. She arrives way too early, given he still has to deplane and get out of the airport, but it’s not like obsessing at her apartment is helping. She might as well obsess at the bar.
Ten minutes after he tells her he’s on his way, he sits down next to her, offering a sheepish smile that probably would have won her over even if she hadn’t already been mostly won.
“Hey, Clarke.”
His voice is rich and smooth and he has glasses sliding down his nose and the entire effect is just way too much. “Hi. Nice to meet you.”
“Yeah, nice to meet you too.” He looks her up and down, worrying his lip a little. “Just to get it out of the way, uh–can I buy you a drink?”
“You don’t have to buy me a drink,” she says, feeling her own smile start to grow. “You can just flirt with me.”
His grin is honestly one of the best things she’s ever seen in her life. “I was already doing that. I figured I should step it up in person.”
“Feel free,” she says, and he slides his stool closer, smiling.
He cancels the Air BnB the next day.

Araquu Journal Session #10- So Here’s The Plan
Time: Sometime after Session 18 Characters: Maska, Cecily, Yue, Aldrid, Navi
Posts indented like this were typed by the GM.
Posts that were not indented were typed by the player(s).
After the incident at Floradai Park, the DISC Unit discusses what to do next...
Yue was laying on a couch in whatever meeting room they be in kicking her feet in the air as she lays on her stomach hands on her chin supporting her head, "Sooo, we're out of leads then huh guys? No more relics to go after then? Is there some Small crime going on we can handle then?" she wonders out loud.
Maska is sprawled on whatever table they have in the room, head resting on the hard wood. With a laptop in front of him i guess "I could look up news article of the past few days..."
Cecily is only standing up and leaning near a corner of the room, having her arms crossed. "I could call one of the council members and see if they have any more info on relic locations," she suggests, pulling out her phone.
"Is there any thing else we should be doing aside from relic searching?” Yue asks. “I feel like that's a fun pass time searching for relics and all, but isn't there some more important other things we should do? Like finding the person actually stealing the relics, then we don't have to waste time to look for the hard to find artifacts."
"I could look up the year they were made in," Maska blows his single strand of hair of his face, "What year was it again? 18 something?" He sits up and brings the machine closer to him.
"1944," Cecily corrected.
"Ah yes, the 40s" Maska said, in a mocking old timey voice "Where showing a single ankle was like hardcore porn to men" He typed up ‘City of Araquu, 1944′ on google.
Some furious Google searching is enough to yield some rather interesting results. You have learned the following! • 1944 is the same year that the current Emperor became, well, the Emperor, having formerly been a part of the (then) council. • Several businesses and attractions were established in that year; Café Bleu de la Lune, Yinxiu Trinkets, Floradai Park, and Shimmering Fabrics are all familiar names. Attractions at the Park of the Lady, and a few recently discovered things (exhibited at the History Museum and Museum of Modern art) are mentioned. • Several powerful mage families also emigrated into Araquu at that time. Listed are the Summers family, the Noah family, and the Meyers family.
"Woah what?" Maska gasp, "Wendy comes from family of mages?"
"This is Araquu, most families here are families of mages, why are you so shocked by this Masky?" Yue wonders.
"Even my father's side of my family are mages," Cecily offhandly mentions.
"Yeah, but they're pleabians" He opens the Powerful Mage families emigrations on a different tab, "Says here they're crazy powerful, this I gotta see."
Which one(s) are you looking into?
"Hrm, let's start with Wendys family" He clicks on the Summers Family.
The Summers family is currently composed of: • Mikhal Summers, aged 58. An expert at tracking magic and capable of using various other assorted magics. • His son, Matthew Summers, aged 26. Rather talented in the art of plant magics. • Matthew's husband, Mark Summers, aged 25. Rather talented in the art of song magics. • Their adopted daughter, Wendy Summers, aged 10. She's too young to practice magic.
"I'd expected the current family be bigger, then again Wendy’s fathers are gay" Maska rubs his chin, "Plant Magic, Song Magic and Tracking Magic... her grandfather's magic could be useful provided he lend us a hand, what do you guys think?" He turns to Yue and Cecily.
"Well we can certainly add that to the things to consider," she cuffed her chin. "...Check to see if there's anything else worth looking into to broaden our options."
"Let me check to see if I can find a connection to the Summers Family and those darn relics," Maska searches the entirety of family to see if there’s a link.
You search the article for a while but don't manage to find anything. Apparently it's not online for everyone ever to see?
"Nothing, let's check the Meyers Family" He goes back on the site and clicks on the Meyers "Never heard of these people."
You have learned that an old lady named Geraldine Meyers is the owner of Shimmering Fabrics.
"Oh hey, it's that old lady from Upper City" Maska shows Cecily the picture of Geraldine, "The one we got the pin from."
"I recall her," Cecily said, flattening her expression. "Reminds me of something else I plan on doing later. Anyways, see what it says about the family."
"Oh right, I should actually look up the actual history of the family." Damn it Maska, anyways he reads the history of the Meyers outloud.
Geraldine lives on her own with like, 50 dogs, she has no family.
"50 dogs? Living the dream right there, good shit." He looks over Geraldine's profile once again, "For someone who comes from a powerful mage family, doesn't seem like she has magical abilities."
"So you're saying that they're nothing to note besides working at one of the locations we've been to?" Cecily asks.
The problem is, no one really knows much about her. She lives on her own and doesn't socialize that often. There's not much information available online.
"Nope, well if you count that she had the relic in her shop and having come from a prestige family" He goes back and clicks on the last family to emigrated to Araquu, "But I don't think that's a connection."
THE NOAH FAMILY, aka Councilman Noah's family, probably his parents or grandparents? That's like all you can find, the council is pretty damn secretive.
"I forgot how secretive mages were with their history, it's really fucking annoying" Maska lets out a sigh with a grimace on his face. Fucking mages.
A sigh only comes from Cecily. "Great," she says. "In terms of people that doesn't leave us with much. How about any other places that relate to the date? Some we haven't visited?"
"Give me a sec, you know you can come and look see yourself instead of trying to blend into the wallpaper" He closes the tab of TreeAncestry dot com and goes back to the google one. He clicks on the page relating to the business that open during 1944.
Before you can investigate any further, the door opens and Navi walks in. "...WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK WHY IS MY HOUSE YOUR HANGOUT!?"
"Hey boo, we just invited ourselves in hope you don't mind" Maska waves at her.
"...if it makes you feel better, I brought food over," Cecily says, pointing to some left over donuts in a box. "You can help yourself."
Navi mutters something about having sworn she locked the door before going to grab a donut. "Any luck with those last few relics we don't know about?"
"No, but I did find out that Wendy’s gonna be a powerful mage when she grows up" Maska stretches a bit, "Right now we're looking into the business that open during the 40s."
Navi takes a few bites to eat her donut, munching as Maska searches. Unfortunately there are too many Dank Memes on the interwebs right now, so he can't find anything that they don't already know.
Cecily, it suddenly dawns on you that perhaps it wasn't so much businesses that were given relics, so much as people who were entrusted to take care of them and put together something they could use to hide it. A lamp at a cafe isn't something that draws attention; nor is a hatpin at a clothing store.
"...There is a connection I do notice," Cecily thought to herself. "Perhaps it's not so much as locations, as it's actually people we should be more concerned with paying attention to. Like, people the Emperor must of knew or trusted."
"Huh- oh uh" Maska quickly closes the Bill Wurtz video he accidentally clicked on, "Right Emperor, question; how do we figure out who he knew? The guy is a well guarded secret."
"That... is the tricky part," Cecily sweatdropped. "I mean, we could ask one of the councilmen. After all, Councilmen Noah is tied to the year 1944."
"Hang on I'm gonna check this article for a hot minute" He clicks on the search result on how the current emperor became as such.
It seems to be a 'picked by the council' thing; and they usually have a sort of trial of their own design to figure out if the person trying to become Emperor is capable of the tasks that would be set before them. Also, you've found a forum where people try and theorize what kind of magic the Emperor uses.
"They do a trial to see if they're fit to be the Emperor, huh i always thought it was more of  a 'who the most powerful mage of them all' cue lightning crackling-" He pauses at what he found "Oh hey! Look, conspiracy theorist!"
Navi groans. "Maska for the love of god no, when has anything useful ever come from conspiracy theories-" boom shakalaka
"Shut up! I'm listening to crazy people!" He clicks on the link to the forum.
Cecily facepalms. "...So, Navi," Cecily says, deciding to small talk while Maska is wasting time. Maybe he'll get back on track soon. "What have you been up to while we were in the Upper City?"
Maska, you can't find any signs of intelligent life here. There are approximately thirty different theories about what kind of magic the Emperor uses, although only two of them seem to be actually trying to present any evidence. There's also a running poll and betting pool about what gender the Emperor is, which is basically neck and neck for Male/Female right now.
"Mostly been runnin' deliveries and what not for Willow. Helpin' her out. She's expectin' a new shipment in soon and wants to be careful it doesn't get stolen again."
"Hm.... I should come back and bet on this when we find out," He mutters to himself and opens both theories that are at least trying their best in their own tabs.
"Robbed?" Cecily asks. "What was stolen?"
"It happened a while ago, she said it was some or other ingredients she doesn't actually sell 'cause they're usually illegal to hang onto," Navi explains. "Said she has permission to use 'em in her own private work though. Actually, she spoke to Aldrid 'bout it, I'm surprised he hasn't told y'all this happened."
Maska, the two primary theories are that the Emperor either uses some form of Body Manipulation Magic (that is, manipulating their own body) or that they use some form of Time Magic. The argument for Time Magic seems to have more proof - various photos of things and locations in places the Emperor has apparently been that indicate time changed somehow - although a lot of the photos and things are "I took a picture here with my mom at this point in time, and then a thing happened and now it looks like THIS" or something similar so it's hard to verify the validity of any of those; on the other hand, Body Manipulation Magic has a very strong following and many people have pointed out that surely it HAS to be that because of all the photos of the various damaged areas from the scene, or the fact that no one fucking knows what the Emperor looks like so they have to be able to change themselves at will... tough to say, really! However, based on your own investigations of these things, you're more inclined to think the Emperor is some sort of time mage; a lot of the things being argued as going under Body Manipulation can actually be viewed as time magic if looked at from the right angle, and with how secretive the council is it's really no surprise that people don't know what the Emperor looks like either; especially if he or she could just, I don't know, pause time and go where they need to go and then unpause it or something similar!
"Pft maybe Wu Hou is the Emperor, or maybe related," He re-reads the time magic theory again. Hypothetically, a egg inside of Maska’s head begins to crack, crack, crack, and hatch to reveal a chick. Maska stands up and shouts "OH MY GOD WE NEED TO FIND WU HOE" frantically.
"AAAAH, JESUS!" Cecily replies, jumping a foot into the air.
"AAAAAHHH!" Yue falls off the couch and sits up looking around. “I'm awake totally.... what happened who's yelling?"
"It makes somewhat sense" He re-reads both theories on the forum he found "Maybe we really need to find Wu Hou..."
"Huh? Why?" Yue asks standing up and brushing herself off.
Maska explains to her the theories he found and his after thoughts on how the Emperor could be using it, also he brought her up to speed on what they had found out "...So, if we do find her, not only could we find more about people that are connected to 1944, we could find out more about the Emperor themselves."
"Assuming that this Wu person would be interested in even bothering to help us. What makes you so sure we can count on her?" Yue puts a finger to chin in thinking form.
"Same goals? Cecily did mention she was trying to 'save the city.'" Maska opens up a new tab and goes to youtube. Might as well get some music in the background, the silence is the deafening, "Besides, I trust this Hou person very little but I do trust Cecily's judgement. Most of the time."
"Huh, Well, glad to see you're not taking that at face value." she smiles, "I've run into so many people that claim the same thing in this line of work that it's hard for even me to trust everything someone says. Besides how would we find someone that could travel through time, and not alert HQ?" Yue sits down cross armed, "What about talking with the council again, maybe they can help us figure something out?"
"I think that’s the point, even if the Emperor would use time magic, wouldn't their magical signature already be notified by the police?" He clicks on some random music and lets it play on low volume, "And true we could take it up with them again, but remember they can't always help us. When was the last time we even met them again in person? Still, not denying that we could go talk to them."
"Did you have a reason to meet them again in person before now?" Yue wonders leaning in.
"Beside seeing Fira again, not really" He leans back on his chair and yawns, "So we can either find the Hoe person or talk to the councilmen."
"I feel like it would be in our best interest to go after the councilmen, if we wanna continue finding the relics. I feel like we could stop this relic running round thing easier if we go after the person hunting them down first. Any ideas on who we could try and track down?"
"I don't know about them anymore, it feels like we're going on a wild goose chase." Maska scratches his head. "What would that even accomplish? We have the Relics then what?"
"I don't think we should be collecting the relics right now." Yue flat out states.
“Well, what do you suggest we do then?” Cecily turns to Yue, while rubbing the back of her own head. “I know we’re a police force that also deals with small crime too, but that still doesn’t mean there’s no sense of urgency either.”
"No no, hear me out here, why would we need to collect all of the relics? Can't we use what we have now as bait to lure out the enemy instead of gathering all the trinkets to make things easier for the opponent?" Yue smiles.
"That sounds flawed, you want to use all of the relics we have to bait out the bad man?" Maska pipes in.
"Pardon my askin'," Navi pipes up from where she's cleaning up a bit, "But have we figured out WHY these guys want th'relics?"
“Nothing concrete if that’s what you’re asking,” Cecily groans. “The only thing I could think of is someone destroy them because of that ritual hiding warehouse we came upon. The relics are tied to the city, right?”
"The relics are tied to the shield that protect the city" Maska leans back on the chair, "If you destroy one the shield weakens."
"Finding the reason as to why they wish the barrier destroyed..." Aldrid starts to say as he walks in "May be part of our primary objective."
"I didn't say use all of the relics Maska, why are you jumping to that conclusion? We would only need to use 1 of them like my hairpin." Yue is stuck on that conversation, "It would help us try and figure out why they're going after these relics and determine if we'll be falling into their plans by just taking all of the relics ourselves."
Cecily crosses her arms and only looks downward. “It could also give us the chance in catching my mother as well...”
"So, we're doing that instead?" Maska rocks himself on the chair he was already leaning on, "We're going to lure out the baddies?"
"I don't see why not, and I have an idea on how to get the word out about the bait too." Yue smiles.
"I swear to fuck if you tell me you're gonna make a god damn video about it then I'm leaving."
“You’re gonna leave your own house?” Cecily deadpans.
"WELL WHY THE FUCK NOT YOU PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN IT FOR YOURSELVES"
"You seem upset," Maska observes.
“Were the donuts not enough as an apology?” Cecily asks.
"Yeah we brought you donuts, isn't that enough?" Maska asks.
Yue goes over to Navi, "Aw, come on, So, what's your bright idea then?"
“Correction: I bought donuts,” Cecily looked at him. “You just shrugged and walked about nonchalantly.”
"Yeah, but I got her this laptop so suck it" Maska that's your own laptop.
“I’m not sure Navi wants whatever you already have stored in there,” Cecily assumes.
Aldrid just kinda stands there, awkardly, like usual.
Navi lets out a deep and clearly frustrated breath through her nose. "We're trying to keep people from panickin', ain't we? Publically announcing something to an audience that may not even include who we're looking for isn't a great idea," she points out. "Also food as a bribe only really works when I actually taste things."
“Fine, I’ll just make it up to you another way then,” she sighs. “But... Navi does have a point. We don’t want a city crisis, and given your popularity...”
Yue sighs then smiles with a thumbs up, "Do you really think that I would state something like 'This is a relic, one that holds the city barrier together. Protecting us from the outside world. Hey baddies come and get it if you dare.'" she states the script like statement in the most sarcastic tone she could muster making sure to emphasize that if this is what you guys were thinking then you're kind of dumb. “I was going to make a video about showing off this pin that could resize clothing. It's a cool parlor trick and any bad guys that seem to know exactly what each of the relics are, would know that this is a relic. Also on the point of if they would watch the video, I have a big following in the city and people do talk about my videos, so while yes it is a long shot that the opponents would hear about this, it is still worth the shot. This way no one knows about any relics that shouldn't know, also they won't know about who the baddies are or heck about the barrier. There wouldn't be a city crisis or anything like that with this idea."
“Okay, so stating you have a relic, but not flat out saying it is one,” Cecily followed along. “And the only people who would know about and make it known, that’s how we know the bait worked.”
"Well, the word would get around, and we would probably have to make a location known of where I'm live streaming or something... and we'll know if it works if the enemy shows up either at my home or on the stream, I guess really we'd have to wait and find out if it worked." Yue nods.
Navi stares at them. "...well, it's more thought-out than I thought it was, but it still seems stupid. Where would you be broadcasting from, first of all?"
"Unless you have a place, or we could use one of our houses," Maska rocks too far back and ends up flat on his back.
"Oh, I have a place we could use." Yue grins.
"Do y'all need me along or can I opt to NOT participate in this stupidity?"
"NO! You've been gone too long!" Maska struggles to get up a bit.
"It would be nice to have you along, Navi You're our friend, but if you don't want to join I won't force you." Yue says.
“We’ll need all the friends and help we can get,” Cecily says with a reassuring smile. “Please?”
Navi's eye twitches. "All right, all right, fine! I'll tag along on this stupid idea, but only so I can bail you idiots out when it backfires."
"Yay!" Oh he finally got up, "Thanks boo"
“We’ll owe you one if you have to,” Cecily smiles warmly.
"Can I use that to request that Maska never calls me 'boo' again?"
"Fine"
Yue does a quick hug on Navi, "Thank you, Navi. You're a true pal." she lets go with a smile.
"Let go of me," Navi bluntly says.
“Well in the downtime, might as well prepare for confrontation,” Cecily says, grabbing her sword and turning to everyone. “Need anything from me before I head out?”
"Let Eiriol know what's happening, then tell Willow I won't be able to make it to work for a bit, since I don't know how long this'll take."
“Sure then,” Cecily nodded. “Anyone else?”
"Nope, I'm good in fact I need to set up! See you around everyone." Yue smiles as she waves goodbye then leaves.

Losing the plot
When it comes to data visualisation, we all make mistakes. We all need to make mistakes. And the recent revolution in data visualisation is still new enough that it's wonderful to see people trying to use and visualise data. There's a balance to be struck between perfectionist pedantry (I'm still often guilty) and encouraging people to have a go. Therefore, I try not to criticise people for slightly substandard charts.
I made an exception this week. We should expect better from government. And poor visualisation is just one aspect of the government's muddled communication of the numbers.
Elsewhere:
The government's coronavirus recovery strategy had (only) a couple of interesting references to data: a vague reference to 'robust safety measures' when it came to contact tracing - we should expect more, quickly, especially since (as Peter points out) the reference to Asian countries raises more questions than it answers - and a vague reference to rewiring the state. Much more from the IfG on the coronavirus crisis and lifting lockdown restrictions here.
People are still updating our collaborative spreadsheet on data-related developments, transparency things and mortality stats (thank you!). Find it here - further additions always welcome.
My former colleague Nicole is now at the Royal College of Nursing, and she's recruiting - take a look at the ads for Digital Content Officer and Senior Media Officer.
On the subject of nursing... it was Florence Nightingale's birthday this week, the Lady with the Lamp also being a pioneer in the use and visualisation of data. Some bonus links below.
And another anniversary - it was International Dylan Thomas Day yesterday, marking the premiere of Under Milk Wood. Which is as good an excuse as any to revisit the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company's lockdown production of the opening scene, starring various people who can actually act, and me.
Have a lovely weekend
Gavin

Does the Rise of Animal-Driven Social Media Affect Veterinarians?
It’s no secret that pets are the real social media influencers. I don’t know about you, but I find it impressive how they find all the time to tweet, take and edit their own photos, and post on Facebook and Instagram. Especially when I consider the mechanics behind it—I mean, they don’t have thumbs; they’re just dogs, cats, horses, pigs, rabbits doing whatever dogs, cats, horses, pigs, and rabbits do (probably horsing around, am I right?).
In today’s world, we think of our pets as our family. This bond that we have with animals is taking over our lives, their lives, and social media. But, if we can’t live a digital life without them, how do we handle it when we may have to live without them #irl? We do the only thing we know to do—take them to the vet.
This attachment we have to our pets makes veterinarians’ jobs both easier and harder; if a veterinarian saves the life of our animal(s), they are savior to us forever. We will rave about them to anyone who will listen, write reviews on every online platform there is (thank #goodness for Facebook, Yelp, and Google reviews, am I right?), and stay loyal to them forever.
But, if there's nothing the veterinarian can do, the opposite reaction may occur, and it can be more dramatic. As someone who’s unexpectedly and traumatically lost a pet before (my childhood miniature poodle, Felicity—RIP, baby girl), I know how painful this is. I also know how the salt of expenses and struggle to understand why she couldn’t be saved makes the wound sting even more.
Little Felicity.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a dramatic person who clings to her pets like a leech. Since I can admit that, I also can admit that I expect a lot from my veterinarian. Fortunately, for the both of us, I’ve never felt the need to write a negative review, nasty Facebook comment, or dramatic Instagram post about my less-than-ideal experience at a veterinary clinic. However, I know the tables would turn if I felt like the staff at a veterinary clinic weren’t being supportive, patient, or explanatory enough. And I would raise heck if all that happened on top of losing my pet, and then was faced with this ginormous bill. I mean, I would’ve just lived my worst nightmare; why shouldn’t I share that with the world?
It hasn’t always been like this, though; there was a time before social media and online reviews. The beginning of the end was February 4, 2004: the day Facebook launched. Before then, veterinarians didn’t need to think much about what people were saying about them online, or what their digital presence was like. Veterinarians only needed to worry about reviews that were spread via word-of-mouth, not with the copy and paste function and multiple clicks of a computer mouse or taps on the screen of a smartphone. Today, within seconds, someone can login into Facebook or post a photo on Instagram of their deceased pet and share the negative experience that they had at a veterinarian’s practice. Within a few more seconds, that review can be seen by, commented, on, and shared with hundreds of people.
Before I posted all over me and my pets’ social media feeds, I hope I would remember something: decisions regarding our pet(s) are difficult due to our deep bond with them, and those decisions are even more unbearable when financial restraints are involved. Similar to doctors in human medicine, there are several factors that are out of veterinarians’ control, like the cost of procedures and the time it takes to receive diagnostic test results from a laboratory.
Regardless of this knowledge, the fact is that veterinarians are often bashed and degraded on social media when a client has a negative experience at their clinic. They are accused of not caring for pets and being money hungry. This is not true for the majority of veterinarians. On average, the salary of a traditional veterinarian starts at $50,436 dollars per year. When veterinarians recommend expensive procedures and treatments, it’s because they are looking out for us, the pet owner who cannot live without our animal(s), and our pet(s), who requires said treatment.
On top of saving the lives of as many animals as possible and developing their businesses, veterinarians also must accommodate the deepening bond that people have with their pets, and realities that come with that, and the very public digital sphere that clients use to share the experiences they had with their veterinarian. All it takes is one Facebook review, Twitter poll, Yelp post, or Instagram story to determine a veterinarian’s reputation.
Prior to February 4, 2004, when an animal passed away in a veterinarian’s care, they didn’t have to continue to relive the owner’s pain in social media posts complete with pictures of adorable now-dead Fluffy. They didn’t have to deal with past and potential clients not coming to their practice because they saw a review on Facebook that said they only care about money and not animals. This isn’t only difficult to deal with as a veterinarian, but it’s almost unbearable to deal with as a person—a person who went into veterinary medicine because they love animals and want them to have the best lives possible.
Veterinarians, in addition to being experts, miracle workers, and confidants in their field, are now challenged with maintaining their esteem, reputation, and likability—not only in the physical presence of their clients and their pet(s), but on social media as well. Their passion and practice are under a microscope—of which they cannot change the magnification.

Afternoon MAGAthread: YOUR WEEKLY PRESIDENTIAL RECAP!
HAPPY SATURDAY PATRIOTS!
Welcome to your weekly recap of all things spicy and dank from the past week! This is u/Ivaginaryfriend here to kick help kick off your Saturday afternoon. For those that missed any past recaps you can check those out here!
Sunday, March 17th:
🔥🔥TRUMP TWEETS🔥🔥:
It’s truly incredible that shows like Saturday Night Live, not funny/no talent, can spend all of their time knocking the same person (me), over & over, without so much of a mention of “the other side.” Like an advertisement without consequences. Same with Late Night Shows...... ... ....Should Federal Election Commission and/or FCC look into this? There must be Collusion with the Democrats and, of course, Russia! Such one sided media coverage, most of it Fake News. Hard to believe I won and am winning. Approval Rating 52%, 93% with Republicans. Sorry! #MAGA
Report: Christopher Steele backed up his Democrat & Crooked Hillary paid for Fake & Unverified Dossier with information he got from “send in watchers” of low ratings CNN. This is the info that got us the Witch Hunt!
So it was indeed (just proven in court papers) “last in his class” (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the Election. He & the Dems, working together, failed (as usual). Even the Fake News refused this garbage!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️
Bring back @JudgeJeanine Pirro. The Radical Left Democrats, working closely with their beloved partner, the Fake News Media, is using every trick in the book to SILENCE a majority of our Country. They have all out campaigns against @FoxNews hosts who are doing too well. Fox ..... ... ....must stay strong and fight back with vigor. Stop working soooo hard on being politically correct, which will only bring you down, and continue to fight for our Country. The losers all want what you have, don’t give it to them. Be strong & prosper, be weak & die! Stay true.... ... ....to the people that got you there. Keep fighting for Tucker, and fight hard for @JudgeJeanine. Your competitors are jealous - they all want what you’ve got - NUMBER ONE. Don’t hand it to them on a silver platter. They can’t beat you, you can only beat yourselves!
video
Democrat UAW Local 1112 President David Green ought to get his act together and produce. G.M. let our Country down, but other much better car companies are coming into the U.S. in droves. I want action on Lordstown fast. Stop complaining and get the job done! 3.8% Unemployment!
Were @FoxNews weekend anchors, @ArthelNeville and @LelandVittert, trained by CNN prior to their ratings collapse? In any event, that’s where they should be working, along with their lowest rated anchor, Shepard Smith!
Those Republican Senators who voted in favor of Strong Border Security (and the Wall) are being uniformly praised as they return to their States. They know there is a National Emergency at the Southern Border, and they had the courage to ACT. Great job!
(Retweeting Lori Hendry) Meghan MCCain took a swipe at Trump suggesting “no one will ever love you like they loved my father” WRONG Meghan! Millions of Americans truly LOVE President Trump, not McCain. I’m one! We hated McCain for his ties to the Russian dossier & his vote against repealing Obamacare
Just spoke to Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors about the Lordstown Ohio plant. I am not happy that it is closed when everything else in our Country is BOOMING. I asked her to sell it or do something quickly. She blamed the UAW Union — I don’t care, I just want it open!
What the Democrats have done in trying to steal a Presidential Election, first at the “ballot box” and then, after that failed, with the “Insurance Policy,” is the biggest Scandal in the history of our Country!
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
SIGNIFICANT TWEETS AND NEWS:
Fake News Gonna Fake News
This is not photoshopped. This is CNN’s headline right now.
38% of white people believe that it's OK to murder minorities, at least rarely. Oh wait, that's actually Muslims that believe that.
This fucktard on Australian tv is now crying on air and suddenly all concerned about terrorism. The pic is his spiel after the Boston bombings
🐸 TOP SPICE OF THE DAY 🐸:
White guilt should not be a thing.
Just a couple red-pilled faggots putting the SAINT in Saint Patrick’s Day!!
He married an immigrant, they call him xenophobic. He has Jewish children and grandchildren, they call him an antisemite. He wants to MAGA, they say he’s working for Russia. They never let reality get in the way of narrative.
When it comes to guns, Obama said it very clearly!
Monday, March18th:
TODAY'S ACTION:
President Donald J. Trump Announces Intent to Nominate Personnel to Key Administration Posts
Sequestration Order for Fiscal Year 2020
Proclamation on Greek Independence Day, 2019
St. Patrick's Day 2019
Intergovernmental Working Group on Youth Program
President Trump Attends the Greek Independence Day Celebration
🔥🔥TRUMP TWEETS🔥🔥:
General Motors and the UAW are going to start “talks” in September/October. Why wait, start them now! I want jobs to stay in the U.S.A. and want Lordstown (Ohio), in one of the best economies in our history, opened or sold to a company who will open it up fast! Car companies..... ... ....are all coming back to the U.S. So is everyone else. We now have the best Economy in the World, the envy of all. Get that big, beautiful plant in Ohio open now. Close a plant in China or Mexico, where you invested so heavily pre-Trump, but not in the U.S.A. Bring jobs home!
93% Approval Rating in the Republican Party. Thank you!
Joe Biden got tongue tied over the weekend when he was unable to properly deliver a very simple line about his decision to run for President. Get used to it, another low I.Q. individual!
The Fake News Media is working overtime to blame me for the horrible attack in New Zealand. They will have to work very hard to prove that one. So Ridiculous!
Wow! A Suffolk/USA Today Poll, just out, states, “50% of Americans AGREE that Robert Mueller’s investigation is a Witch Hunt.” @MSNBC Very few think it is legit! We will soon find out?
GDP growth during the four quarters of 2018 was the fastest since 2005. This Administration is the first on record to have experienced economic growth that meets or exceeds its own forecasts in each of its first two years in office. GROWTH is beating MARKET EXPECTATIONS!
Video
My team is staying in close contact with Governor Kim Reynolds (@IAGovernor) of Iowa and the local officials managing these floods. We support you and thank all of the first responders working long hours to help the great people of Iowa!

Campaigning for the Popular Vote is much easier & different than campaigning for the Electoral College. It’s like training for the 100 yard dash vs. a marathon. The brilliance of the Electoral College is that you must go to many States to win. With the Popular Vote, you go to.... ... ....just the large States - the Cities would end up running the Country. Smaller States & the entire Midwest would end up losing all power - & we can’t let that happen. I used to like the idea of the Popular Vote, but now realize the Electoral College is far better for the U.S.A.
