Having to grapple w the experience of a piece of art being deeply personal and healing for you vs it either not providing that for someone else or being something that’s triggering instead, being able to accept that neither one of you is in the “wrong” for feeling as you do? one of the most valuable experiences ever imo

#like. as a personal example. yosuke p4 is an incredibly healing character for me #I immensely relate to his expressions of internalised homophobia and the queer lens I apply to the character #because he reminds me of myself as a teenager and the ugly feelings I struggled w #but for other people his homophobia is immensely triggering because it’s reminiscent of how they’ve been treated #and like. neither of us are ‘wrong’ for feeling as we do #we’re just having two very different but very personal connections to a piece of art #in fact our reactions conflict w one another’s #and that’s fine! it’s important to be able to view and analyse disparate opinions and readings to your own imo #even (ESPECIALLY) if the conclusion is just that we’re getting very different things from the text #as informed by our lived experiences #tunes titters
