“One question… one bite.”
Tumblr media
So I just read @solroskajan’s fanfiction, “To Be a Rebel Or A Runaway” on AO3
Honestly? I adore the fic so far. I really recommend checking it out since I think it’s well written. I love how Uzi and V are written among other things too. There’s two chapters so far, but I’m definitely staying in tune for future chapters. Mainly for robot yuri. God bless robot yuri
I wanted to make a quick doodle… which is why this is rather messy and not as accurate to some scenes in the fanfic (backgrounds isnt my strong suit either). Watercolor takes 50 years so I opted for a more quicker method. I promise my art is a lot cleaner and better than this
Once again, go check out their fanfic, it’s linked on their page. It’s worth the time, trust

Hello, I hope this ask finds you well.
I’d like to ask if you had any beach episode headcanons for the drones?
I, personally like to think that both N and Thad would work together on sand castles, Thad would enjoy surfing and V would be very competitive at volleyball.
YKNOW it’s funny you ask that because that’s literally what I was doing all day today.
So! Thad would absolutely enjoy Surfing and building sand castles, but I think he’d also like boogieboarding. And if he isn’t doing those three, he’s diving straight into giant waves and letting them toss him around for fun. I can imagine he gets wiped out, reamerges and just goes “WOO!!!”
Uzi and V, and maybe J too, playing volleyball together is so real I think, but I can also imagine Uzi standing where the waves hit and just insulting the sea and trying to fight it. Her and V would also chase seagulls around because they’re feral.
Lizzy and Doll would be chilling under an umbrella and watching, Doll because she’s doll and Lizzy because she doesn’t want to get her hair wet.
If J isn’t volleyballing, she’s watching and silently judging everyone, and also laughing at them getting tossed around by the waves.
I think for N, along with sand castles and joining Uzi in insulting the ocean (with very weak insults,) he’d be hunting for shells! …and also getting bullied by the waves, because he doesn’t pay attention to them and gets wiped the hell out.
These are super fun to think of, I love thinking about my favorite blorbos while participating in real life adventures. Because hyperfixations

Ey so, yoinking a bit of idea-anon's thing here, but how about some things of N being like a dog in his feral/hungry mode?
Like, he tends to sniff others a lot, either to consider nomming them or because that's the only way his mind can tell who's who. Just think about a random worker (like Uzi or otherwise) just walking around and then coming across a x-eyed murder drone that starts sniffing you, boy you would be hoping they don't consider you tasty at that moment (or just generally decide to nom for the heck of it).
Also, N could just 'melm' a lot of people just for affection or for tasting people. Uzi would probably fall victim to this form of N's doggy-kind of affection, with N seeking her out a lot and some of the others kinda sacrificing her for a distraction (ei J and V most of the time lol). And if you know how dogs are when they're 'kissing' people, you know that it be a big ole mess that's tolerable, but get's kind of annoying after a bit.
And then there be the demands for belly rubs! He would probably just want a whole lot, whether his tummy full or not, but probably mostly when his tums full. Gotta soothe tummy-aches somehow right? And I can totally imagine a scene where Uzi is just chilling in her room, hears her door open, and looks up and sees some x eyes reflected in a mirror or something. Uzi is at first like "...Shite" and is trying to think of an escape plan and is hoping that whatever happens won't be too bad or take too long, when N just flops backwards onto her bed and starts nudging her leg to demand a belly rub (tummy being full or other wise, both are rather cute, but I guess his tummy being full would bring up the question of who he nommed lol).
YES. preds that act animalistic (especially in the sense of dogs or cats) is like. One of my FAVOURITE TROPES EVER. it’s just- yes. And with N? it just works so well, cuz i could actually picture all of the scenarios mentioned >:D

N is very interesting character
YES HE IS.
(A little analysis (?) for my favourite boy! Sorry if is very long)
He is a very sweet and kind character. In ep 5 we see how N protected Cyn so she didnt get punished. In the same ep, even when he was gonna get lobotomized, N helped V, giving her glasses back.
In the pilot, he wasnt sure about fighting V, even when she was was ready to murder him. Even run after Uzi because she had a weapon that could hurt V.
Even when she ignored him, he was so kind to her. To J too, who treated N like shit. In ep 2 even says that she looks great in her Eldritch form.
And dont get me started with Uzi!
Even with that, something else that is interesting is how... feral he is in the pilot. But at the same time he was nice until he got serious. A very interesting contrast.
(I hope we see N feral again).
He also acts stronger when people that he cares about can get hurt. Again, in the pilot, N entered in the bunker without problem, because of V. Then, when he was fightin V and he was loosing, N saw Uzi in trouble and he inmediately stopped Uzi.
Then the scene with V in ep 4 where she wanted to kill Uzi and N GOT SERIOUS.
I could say more but lets stop here.

Since you all gave me so many more likes than I thought my sleep-deprived ramblings would get, here's even more Headcanons:
-Uzi and V start the most fights (duh), but Nori jumps into the fray just as much. It takes both Khan and N to separate them. The fights and pouting can take place for days, until N decides they have enough and forces a therapy session
-once they all adjust to Cyn/the Absolute Solver being Uzi's tail, they end up being treated as another kid.
Nori and Khan when the tail irritates Uzi: Cyn, stop bullying your sister.
Cyn: she's not my sister! 'continues making Uzi's life a living heck'
Nori/Khan: that's it, you're grounded!
Uzi: No! Her being grounded means I'M grounded!
Solution? Tail is blindfolded and doesn't have the hands to take it off. When that doesn't work, washing the tail's mouth with the oil equivalent of soap does the trick.
-you know the overprotective dad trope? Well, obviously that's Khan with Uzi. But once he realizes how capable she is (which takes a long time.... he's lovable because he's dense, okay?), he starts being overprotective with N instead. So Uzi starts getting the intimidation talks, and threats of treating N right.
(not that Uzi treats him badly, but they all know the type of feral gremlin she is. She practically is a trouble magnet-And since N 'loves doing anything!', he doesn't normally know what's going on until it's too late--Khan just wants the kids back in one piece).
Anyhow, I hope these little additions bring you a little bit of happiness in your day. If you don't mind, let me know what you think! I don't tend to share my Headcanons, so this is a new experience for me.
Murder Drones Headcanons post episode 8 that absolutely (probably) would not fit in the actual canon....
-since N and V have no families to stay with--and since they went to school we can imply that they are close in age to Uzi. yes I know that N is confirmed to be 21, but maybe that's still considered a teenager in drone years-- they live with the Doorman Family.
-Nori and Khan, who have no idea how to be good parents, is suddenly trying to take care of three murderous teenagers. V hates it; N is just happy that he gets to be with Uzi.
-Nori catches V dragging in a dead worker drone when everyone else is in their sleep cycle.
"is that a dead body?"
"uh....no?" (V has head in hands, and oil on her mouth)
"dang it V we talked about this! You're only allowed to kill one worker a month! This is your second one in two weeks!"
-Khan is still trying to bond with Uzi. The only person he can complain about it to is her boyfriend. N, the sweet empathic soul he is, listens and gives advice.
-(Uzi still hasn't forgiven him for forcing her and Khan to go on a father-daughter camping trip to 'bond'. For two weeks. Alone.)
-N is the unofficial family therapist. During family disputes he forces everyone to sit in the living room and 'talk' about emotions (ew) none of them want to, but N always finds a way to wring out their tongues.
- when Nori finds out about Khan leaving Uzi for dead, she slaps him. She then goes to find N and does the same for trying to kill HER daughter (she won't admit it, but N's puppy eyes makes her forgive him a lot more quickly). She also probably slaps Uzi again for, you know, LEAVING THE COLONY AND DATING A MURDER DRONE.

Foldin Clothes and Stay(in) Gold: The Many Faces of Rap Craft Part I
Tumblr media
J Cole.
Why do we listen to rap? We love bangers and hard beats which is why you would listen to Migos. Something deeper or weirder? Maybe Childish Gambino or Flying Lotus. Or maybe you just want to hear about killing people drugs and fighting so there’s 21 Savage or Lil Uzi Vert (if you’re feeling particularly light).
I’d argue they all come from the same vein of creation. Rap was created to release demons, tell stories, even punchlines all while rhyming or using beautiful figurative language.
That sounds great but do you know who the 2016 Freshman Class of XXL are? Like 8 of 10 of them are trap artists. Like those last two artists mentioned the other guys are Desiigner and Lil Yachty. Which is fine ya know? I like “Panda” and some Yachty songs but what sent me over the edge is a popular ranking site throughout the fucking list the authors wrote “Although they lack lyrical dexterity and diversity they make up for it in delivery.” WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. THAT’S THE FUCKIN’ POINT. I get XXL isn’t representative of rap music as a whole but my god man. I wouldn’t say I’m an old head because I love a lot of new stuff coming out right now but, I can distinguish what can be enjoyable, interesting and rewarding to a listener.
I heard 21 Savage’s album through and through because I really like “No Heart”. But it’s a goddamn sleeper hold. Like every song is I’m killing people and making drugs yeayeayea. “No Heart” has all of that but in that song he’s insane with his lyrics, the beats boom, he’s got energy and diversity of his words and flows that is seldom heard throughout the rest of it.
Imagine taking all that manic energy into flows, lyrics, and verbosity. Then hook an IV straight to the vein with a syringe filled with a deep story. A message. THAT is “ 4 Yours Eyes Only”.
Tumblr media
This is not the album that he promised at all. By releasing “Everbody Dies” and “False Prophets” I was expecting a feral, destroy every rapper album that everyone keeps trying. I hope eventually that album comes out. But, whether he used that to sell more copies of “4” or to surprise everyone, J Cole aimed for depth, feeling and to tell a story and he succeeded.
There are hardly any bangers (A major complaint from my friends on their first listen of the album) with the exception of “Neighbors” which will enrage you and want you to throw your fists in the air. Most of these songs are poetry with a simple beat attached.
The opener “For Whom The Bell Tolls” is like knowing you’re about to crack open a great book. The jangling beat and the first line “I see the rain pourin’ down…” immediately feels like you’re in a storm in the amazon or at least a storm is coming. As the Cole quickly spits about not knowing whether if he wants to die and feeling like there is no where to hide, it feels claustrophobic. It’s a fantastic first song and already has depth and complexity.
“Immortal” is more of the usual J Cole, a swirling beat but not too hard and Cole talking about that world and greed around him. Not bad but I wanted more of the “Bell Tolls”. “Deja Vu”’s first 30 seconds are absolutely groan worthy, There was clearly a rush to get to the verses kinda like a kid shoveling down a few broccoli to eat his spaghetti. The verses are way more versatile, more clever and more concerned with not being able to talk to that girl which a strength that J Cole has. Again past that terrible “fingers in the sky if you want it” shit it’s not bad.
“Ville Mentality” comes just when I thought “Bell” was a fluke. There’s a certain sense of floating around, a navel gazing atmosphere. How long can I go on being what society and everything around me is telling me to be? Then a little girl talks about how she missed her dad’s funeral. Weird. But, it seems to fit perfectly within the song.
“She’s Mine” a beautiful, piano driven slam poetry session. I can see a spotlight on Cole, in a tux with his messy fro,  singing. rapping. talking all with a tear down his face looking out to a pitch black auditorium. Catch me I’ve fallen in love he says. I think I have too. With the song. With the earnest voice he carries as if he’s trying to shield a smile. With the thought of the girl, With the song again.
“Change” is another left turn. I imagine he is looking out right after “She’s Mine” and realizes there is an audience and he needs to say what’s on his chest. The song is about changing the views, mentality and personality of those involved in gang violence and tragedy of death in the black community. It’s preachy but at the same time Cole is clearly sticking true to a feeling that cannot be shaken off and needs to be expressed. It’s like politely listening to a friend having a panic attack. They need to get it out no matter how it sounds.
“Neighbors” has the line  “ My sixteen should’ve came with a coffin”. Fuck.
“Foldin’ Clothes” has to be the cheesiest song Cole has ever written and I love it. The electric bass and slinky guitar makes it a great framework that even cheesy and incredibly simply borderline dumb chorus (wanting to do the right thing which feels better than the wrong thing) almost ok.  The shout outs to almond milk (!) will make you laugh, smile and think about your person. But then Cole surprises with the people being fake around him “N****s is the best actors”.
“She’s Mine II” returns to the sublime “She’s Mine” but what’s that? A baby crying? This is a different love. A protection rather than adoration. Teaching lessons while changing diapers. It’s odd but if it wasn’t Cole it wouldn’t work. I’ll dry your eyes, I never felt so alive, there is a God he coos. And I believe him.
At this point I was scattered. What the actual fuck is Cole on here. There’s children all over this album, death all over the album and the need for change.
“4 Your Eyez Only” begins and I feel ready for an explanation. It’s a full confession and I hang on to every word. Switching perspectives, greedy thoughts, play my this tape for my daughter and let her know my life is on it. Fuck. Again, Cole is in control. I’m listening for each breath. Every line hurts. A whole 5 minutes of bawl your eyes out pain within a strong and steady performance. All the cooing, love notes are almost gone. It is steady focus, Cole’s slain friend using Cole as a vessel to talk to his daughter. It slides the whole album into place like solving a 1000 piece puzzle.
Tumblr media
An everyday tragedy locked forever in 40 minutes.
It’s flooring, sobering and it left me a little speechless.
This is craft. To create atmosphere, emotions and incur thinking as soon as the album is done. This album and J Cole deserves respect, long bouts of thinking and multiple listens to full appreciate it and then do it again. It’s arduous and almost too painful but that attributes to the strength of music and when done with care and love even with it’s flaws can be a work of beauty.
B+
