Balloons

A (not so) little Komahina drabble with a Kyouko (and hints of Naegiri) preamble based on this interaction from the Danganronpa Summer Camp game (and yes I 100% bought it and for full price because I'm really silly but I'm so committed for the interactions like JSKAJSKSKA I want them to be happy so bad):

Hajime: You make the flower petals like this, attach the stem… and there ya go, done! Kyouko: Huh, you're surprisingly dexterous. Kyouko: Would you mind if I took this flower? Hajime: Sure, no problem at all. Kyouko: Thanks. Keep up the good work. Kyouko exits. Hajime: I know it's a fake flower, but… giving it to a girl is still kinda embarrassing. Hajime: And to Kyouko, no less. I hope she doesn't tell the boys that she got it from me…

The detective thumbs at the rubbery material, indeed appreciating Hajime’s workmanship. He truly does seem capable of plenty, even if it was like a jack of all trades. But oftentimes is better than a master of one. She retorts her silent conjecture. And indeed, it shows in the way his determination seems to spark around people who are motivated in their passions.

It is just like the creation of this flower. The happy yellow it sprouts reminds her of a certain classmate. She has no need to act coy to herself, it is prevalent to her that her emotions have strayed to a place she never anticipated them to go.

Makoto Naegi, the Ultimate Luck. He has shown time and time again he was more than such a title. Every time he asks questions, remarks on a viewpoint she hadn’t considered, provides patience and calmness when she is unable to compose herself quickly enough… he was endearing and dependable, the type that she can’t help but be drawn to in the midst of the chaos that was her detective duties.

Perhaps she will present this flower to Makoto. It may not be overly affectionate, but she knows Makoto enjoys small acts with messages as simple as “being thought about”. It’s an idea to scoff at, with his easy going personality being the most digestible compared to her fellow classmates. He is, quite often, considered by everyone as the de facto leader of their class the moment he stepped up in second year. His development was quite admirable and impressive. Everyday, he will be greeted by everyone and talked to in one way or the other.

In that sense, it is easier to dismiss his more anxious side, melancholic and self-loathing. Although caring for others is not very easy for her despite the strides being taken by her classmates, there is something about Makoto that makes her feel adequate in giving him an ear to listen to rather than forcing physical affection.

“Kirigiri?” A soft voice pushes through her reverie. Lavender eyes trail up to stark white hair, and a more casual outfit than she has ever seen him wearing. It reflects the setting of the festival however, and she endeavours to say as much-

“I apologize for interrupting you with my presence. I know you must have more important matters than looking upon trash like me,” Kyouko’s mouth closes. Nothing has prepared her to treat this sudden situation. She is aware of Komaeda’s low self-esteem and the way it manifests, but she has never been on its receiving end and is uncertain how to proceed. Komaeda continues on regardless, “I saw this flower balloon had flown out of your hands and I managed to get it back in one piece. How lucky!”

Indeed, in his hand is the yellow flower balloon that she must have let go of during her musings. She takes it from him and nods. “Thank you Komaeda.”

He beams. “Oh, it’s no trouble at all, I’m very happy to help. It’s really the least I could do for an Ult- for such an admirable person.”

She notices the intentional slipping of the word “Ultimate”, but does not make any move to indicate her recognition of it. Clearly, it was a habit of his he was trying to stop, if his behaviour is any indication.

“Although," Komaeda says, "I did find it strange you had a balloon with you.”

“Hinata is the one making them. Although his repertoire was limited, he does what he offers quite well.”

The Ultimate Lucky student hums, turning his head back in the direction of where Hinata’s table was. “Really now? How fascinating.” He looks to the ground, and she wonders what he is pondering about.

She remembers seeing them together often, albeit in passing. She notes that their position relative to the celebration is quite distant, out closer to the beach, but still close enough to see most of the attractions. Hmm… “From what I observed, he still has about half a package of balloons left. I’m quite certain you can get one from him.”

Kyouko studies the way Komaeda turns to her warily. She has a hunch now though, and she states, “He would gladly give you one, regardless of what occurs. I think he will appreciate a more familiar presence supporting him.”

Some emotions seem to dart across Komaeda’s face, but she cannot process them all in time before it settles. He sighs. “Ah, I suppose you figured me out. As expected of the Ultimate Detective!” He praises. She sees the way he glances back to the festival tents. “I suppose I can pay a friend a visit.”

She allows herself a smile, hoping it comes off as encouraging. “Good luck.”

He laughs. “I sure hope I'll have it.”

Nagito hugs himself loosely, clutching onto the soft fabric enveloping him as he walks past stands and tents. He looks around, biting his lip. A sigh inevitably escapes, much like his resolve always does.

He listens. Chatter, laughter- so much, so loud... But no cries or sobs. No cracks of wood or thumps of metal. And most thankfully, no screams. Regardless, he checks around him anyway. His presence here can change so many things. He can bring so much despair just by simply existing. Why did he possibly come in here again?

A glimpse of spiky brown hair and a familiar tie fills his vision. Right. It always traces back to Hajime.

The Reserve Course student goes to finish up shaping a red balloon into a flower, and hands it over to the Ultimate Astronaut, although his name escapes him. He can hear the “Awesome!” all the way from where he's standing, which is kind of impressive. The man makes his way to the Ultimate Caregiver, who he immediately tries giving the flower to. She looks pleased. Yet, she shouts “Do you want to die!?” so maybe he misread her?

Nagito turns back to Hajime, who’s already gesturing to him to come over. “Hey!” He smiles. “Didn’t expect to see you here!”

He frowns. “I know that my presence isn’t deserved around U-.”

“Okay, shut the fuck up. You know I’m just glad you’re out here. How are you enjoying it so far?”

“Ah. What if I said I only came to see you?” He can’t help but tease. Hajime’s ears, as predicted, turn red.

“You can’t be serious. Out of everyone else?” that are Ultimates isn't spoken, but heavily implied.

“Now who’s the one who needs to stop talking about status?” He teases.

“H-hey! I didn't even say anything!” Hajime coughs. “I know what you’re doing. Don’t change the subject.”

Nagito hums. “I’m not joking though, I did come here because of you. Kirigiri told me you made her flower balloon and I just had to see what that was about.”

Upon sharing that info, Hajime averts his gaze, clearly blushing. How interesting…

He feels tempted to smirk, but doesn't in favour of sounding noncommittal, “Something wrong about what I said, Hajime?”

“Nope, nothing.” He trails off. “…You don’t think she’s told anyone else, do you?”

Nagito crosses his arms. Why would Hajime care? Is he embarrassed? How silly. He eyes the bag of balloons and lets out an amused puff. “Well, it certainly benefitted you if she did, considering you’ve emptied the whole bag.” The sigh escapes him before he can stop it. He didn’t even realize he wanted a balloon before it was taken away.

Just his luck. How disappointing.

“Huh?" Hajime asks. "It’s empty?”

He swiftly lifts the bag. "Aha!" He calls out triumphantly. Turns out, under the opaque portion of the packaging sits a deflated green balloon.

Nagito grins. “How lucky!”

Hajime responds with a smirk. He adds as much air as possible to the balloon, and when satisfied, says, “Alright, I know you’re going to make fun of me, but I can only manage a flower and a dog. Which one do you want?”

Although he probably would’ve been quick to tease Hajime about his skills “befitting a Reserve Course student”, the mention of a dog makes the words freeze on his tongue.

“A dog would be nice.” Nagito admits.

“Oh, sure.” Hajime says, a little disconcerted by the honesty, and his eyebrows are furrowed. Adorable. He doesn’t know how Hajime isn’t an Ultimate. In a way, he almost likes that he isn’t.

Within a few minutes of tanned hands twisting and turning rubber, he is finally presented with a cute little dog.

The ends of his lips tug upwards. He gently grabs the balloon, being extra careful to transport it into his arms.

“This is wonderful.” He says breathily.

Hajime looks at Nagito, bemused. “Your eyes are sparkling. I’ve never seen you so happy.” And almost as if it was an afterthought, he adds, “It looks good on you.”

What? “H-huh?”

“It seriously can’t be that surprising. It’s… nice to see you happy. Not that you don’t already look nice! You tied your hair and even wore a jinbei for the festival. You’re looking pretty good.”

The lucky student just stares at Hajime, who grows steadily more red under the gaze. The Reserve Course student swipes his hand through the air, as if that'll somehow dispel the flurry of thoughts going through his head. “Alright, what’s with that look?”

“I’m glad you think I look ‘good’, Hajime." He starts, "I wasn’t trying to impress anyone, much less someone like yourself, but I see your eyes would be more used to seeing trash in your everyday life and thinking it’s beautiful.”

Hajime stares him down. “Nagito, anyone at this camp would agree you’re good-looking. And I know you’re just saying that shit about me being a Reserve Course because you’re spiraling a little bit.” Ah. He looks at the ground. “Hey, it’s fine. We kinda talked about this, remember? I know we’re friends.”

He doesn’t reply. How could he? To be read so easily…

A warm hand grabs his shoulder. His gaze immediately whips to Hajime's face. “D-don’t think too much about this." A flustered Hajime spits out. "Let’s just go. We’re going around and enjoying this damn festival together.”

How is Hajime Hinata real?

“Is this your way of getting a date, Hajime?” He says playfully instead. “You could have just asked, you know. I’m sure Chiaki- or anyone else really- would not have declined.”

Hajime gives a raised eyebrow at the mention of Chiaki, but doesn’t seem to press it. Instead, he goes, “I’d rather be here with you, to be honest. I said it already, but it’s nice to have you out here. I might as well enjoy it while I can.”

Nagito shuts up at that. While judging Hajime the whole time, his face isn't any better, probably looking crimson at this point.

“And you dropped this.” Hajime waves the green balloon dog that ended up in his hands. The Ultimate blinks, surprised he had let go of it. However, the wind picks it out of Hajime’s hand and starts carrying it on its currents.

“Shit!” Hajime exclaims. He jumps, but it flies out of his reach.

“Fuck! I’m sorry Nagito, I didn’t mean to lose it.”

He easily waves it off with a chuckle. “No, it’s alright. Besides, you could always make another one.”

“I mean, honestly, this was pretty fun." Hajime admits, "I wouldn’t mind doing it again…”

And Hajime trails off, and he knows exactly why, considering he’s leaned in in that cutesy way he’s seen girls in dramas do. He smirks at Hajime’s bewildered face. While amused, he backs off, as if it was merely an accidental brush.

He sends him an innocent smile. Olive eyes narrow in response, but they face forward again in silent acceptance. It would be quite impressive, if Hajime’s face wasn’t flushed.

“There’s a restaurant here. You’re coming with me.”

He nods happily.

Things could always be worse because of my luck, but for some reason I feel like, perhaps, I'll be okay. But can I hope? Do I dare hope?

Nothing hurts more than hope getting crushed.

…But maybe…

Maybe this is worth it.

I have a feeling something bad is going to happen. Like someone gets injured, or worse. Everyone seems to get along well though. A death game. Thats why we’re here.

When Subaru decided to take a picture of the stage, a small creature-robot-thingy decided to announce himself. It couldn’t have been taller than 3 feet. It also looked liked a cat? A robot cat?? Weird, but thats far from the oddest thing found out today. Monoshoji (Robot-cat-things name) announced that for our safety, we would be held inside Yumenosaki Academy. He mentioned that there are many facilities here for us to have happy lives, we could even go outside to the courtyard. We just couldn’t leave at all. Many people seem to make a fuss. Especially Leo, mentioning he had family and a younger sister as well. He didn’t like the robot at all, he almost fought it. But Monoshoji assured him that they would be safe inside Yumenosaki.

He then mentioned a way to get out. To kill someone. We all seemed shocked by this. Like, who would even kill!? Monoshoji then mentioned that was the only option for us to escape. Nothing else. He then gave us our room keys and a map so we could navigate around Yumenosaki easily. He wished us well and then he left.

SO WERE JUST MEANT TO KILL SOMEONE IF WE WANT TO LEAVE?!?!

WHAT THE HELL????

Hell no, im not gonna kill someone. There *has* to be a different way for us to escape. Seems Subaru thought the same thing as me because after the announcement he talked with me about how he doesn’t want to kill as well. I agreed with him, and he mentioned that he’s scared that someone is desperate enough to escape. I assured him that nothing would happen at all. But a part of me is still unsure of that. We then made a pact that we would help each other leave. Tomorrow, we decided we would go check for any areas that could be affected, like a trap door or something. But what should I do for now?

Skill/Ult:  Healer but could also be DPS.  Her ult is what heals.  A certain area of the field becomes for healing and lets you trigger elemental reactions with Electro

Vision:  Pyro.  For sure.

Weapon:  Also a sword user

Skill/Ult:  His ult infuses his attacks with Pyro and his damage is increased.  His skill also gives a burst of Pyro damage

Nishinoya: 

Vision:  Electro

Weapon:  I feel like he def uses a claymore (to brag abt how jacked he is).  

Skill/Ult:  Noya’s ult triggers an explosion that does a heavy amount of damage.  His skill summons like a creature that deals pyro damage to enemies.

Ennoshita: 

Vision:  HEAVY Geo energy coming from this one.  

Weapon:  Archer

Skill/Ult:  Ennoshita’s ult summons like a Geo weapon that deals Geo damage to enemies.  His skill launches a Geo arrow.

Narita: 

Vision:  Anemo.  For sure.  

Weapon:  Sword

Skill/Ult:  Narita’s ult creates a vortex that sucks enemies in and deals Anemo damage.  His skill propels him forward while dealing elemental damage

Kinoshita: 

Vision:  CRYO. USER

Weapon:  Sword

Skill/Ult:  Ult creates a ring that surrounds him and deals constant Cryo damage.  

Tsukishima: 

Vision:  Can’t decide between Cryo or Electro tbh.  Probably Electro

Weapon:  He DOES give me like catalyst user vibes.

Skill/Ult:  Probs also has some kind of shield.  His ult is also like a one-hit type.  I think he summons like lightning from the sky and then launches it at enemies

Yamaguchi: 

Vision:  Hydro

Weapon:  He definitely seems like an archer to me.

Skill/Ult:  Creates a Hydro vortex that sucks enemies in but only shakes them like a few times. His skill pushes enemies back with Anemo

Hinata 

Vision:  I get either a Pyro or Electro vibe from him

Weapon:  Another claymore user

Skill/Ult:  His ult marks multiple areas and launches an aerial elemental attack.  His skill launches a ball of Pyro at enemies

Kageyama

Vision:  I wanna say Hydro vision

Weapon:  He’s a solid polearm user

Skill/Ult:  Feel like he could be a really good DPS.  His ult lasts for a while and his attacks become elemental.  His skill is turns his weapon into like water and then strikes the enemy

Yachi

Vision:  DENDRO?? USER???? I just get that vibe from her 

Weapon:  I’m LIVING for the idea of Yachi as a Claymore user 

Skill/Ult:  For her skill, she’s able to summon some kind of creature that does like continuous elemental damage to enemies.  I also feel like her ult does some kind of healing

he’s a DPS main and you can’t change my mind-

the boye probably plays reaper, maybe genji but i don’t see him as a genji main and maybe plays widowmaker

if you’re a support main, he’s literally gonna be so happy 

pls nano and or pocket heal the babie 

if you’re a tank main, he’ll do his best as DPS to actually do damage to the enemy team

if you’re a DPS main, have fun waiting for +10 mins to get into a game

but hey, you two can coordinate some fun kills (if you play mei that is-)

gaming nights, gaming nights, gaming nights, gaming nights, gaming ni-

cuddles while he plays on his PSP is his favorite past time

having you rest on his chest and his arms wrapped around you with his PSP in his hands makes him very happy !!

if you don’t play video games, he’s okay with that ! 

if you try to play games with him, he’ll appreciate it a lot

you and kenma probably play 1v1s on overwatch out of boredom and kuroo has tried to pretend to be an OWL (overwatch league) announcer while you do so 

you’ve lost a lot since he plays as widow

cosplay isn’t really kenma’s thing but he would allow something similar like wearing outfits that are like the character’s outfits

would dress up in black and call himself reaper but you would call him a black cat more than anything-

kuroo tetsuro

a tank main though i do see him as a DPS main

he’s probably a very well rounded player tbh

but he mostly plays tank bc it’s more of a leader role 

also it’s an excuse to tell you that he’ll protect you in a very cheesy way

he mains reinhardt, winston, and roadhog probably. maybe DV.a too

DPS wise he mains genji or hanzo

i can imagine him using weird pickup lines

anyways, if you play support, he will literally bow down to you-

if you’re a tank main, he likes to coordinate on pushing the point or the payload with u

you, kenma, and kuroo probably 3-stack playing competitve

kuroo has DEFINITELY tea bagged people who kill you in game

he probably doesn’t play too many video games tbh

but if he did play ow, he would be a support main surprisingly, occasionally plays DPS

definitely mains ana, brigitte, and zenyatta, rarely plays mercy unless the team comp is bad enough to make him play her

DPS wise he mains widowmaker, hanzo, and pharah

if you play support, he’s pretty happy about that bc he doesn’t like dumb healers

will help you on healing others and will coordinate on who to pocket

if he plays pharah and you play mercy, yall know issa about to be the pharamercy duo 

if you play dps, he may ask you to play genji or ashe and will always nano you and pocket you

don’t make “i need healing” jokes around him-

he will cuddle you to death >:) but like either way, he doesn’t like hearing people spam the voice line

hinata probably does it at lot- and probably tanaka too-

if you play tank, he’s gonna call u a god/goddess 

HE WILL POCKET/NANO YOU

will also call out to you when he slept someone

“y/n, slept the reaper” “slept the pharah” “slept the mercy”

you get surprised everytime he sleeps someone before they can use their ult-

also everytime he does sleep someone and it’s a DV.a out of her mech,,, you bet he’s gonna brutally stagger them with sleeps and then emote on their corpse-

if you don’t really play video games, that just means you have to try and get his attention when he’s playing, he WILL be too busy talking in comms to notice you

Ack, I really need to get to the rest of these. Well, what better time than the present?

Well, all the same, here goes! It got a little long so it’s under a read more for now.

Now, this could go one of two ways: they either met or they didn’t. If they don’t meet then obviously there’s not going to be much additions in dr3 save for…a few things.

I like the idea of being the world’s fucking biggest tease and having either them juuuuuust missing each other (like Komaeda leaves after talking with Matsuda just as Hinata arrives to talk to Matsuda) or having them bump into each other briefly, Komaeda quickly apologizing and hurrying on his way as Hinata stares after him, a little starstruck and then asking Matsuda about him, irritating Matsuda even more than he usually is.

“Is that one of the elites?”

“Do you value your life and sanity?”

“W-What?!”

“Stay on subject, you reserve course gorilla.”

But if they do know each other:

The fountain is one of their meeting places, too. And they either met from Komaeda lugging around a bag of soda and needing to sit down or Komaeda ending up crashing into the fountain due to a prior explosion of bad luck. The latter would be funnier, especially since Hinata would meet Nanami the same way (though she just walks into it like an idiot), and Hinata just complaining “why doesn’t just talent itself fall from the sky”. (Side note: I need to find a way to work in Izuru getting into the fountain, too. Somehow. Some way.)

Their relationship is initially curt with Komaeda polite if distant only to get irritated with how pushy Hinata is (due to being worried about him). Hinata gets snappy too and they’re like huffy children, more so when Komaeda finds out about him making friends.

Despite that, they meet again for various reasons that Komaeda relates to bad luck (broken soda machines, getting chased by dogs, losing a button in the fountain), and despite the tsuning at each other, they actually talk quite a bit at length and despite being annoyed with him, Hinata finds himself engrossed in Komaeda’s speaking, even when it causes twinges in his chest when Komaeda parrots toxic ideals that Hinata had, too, internalizes. They actually talk about Komaeda’s class, and Hinata is initially blindsided by how Komaeda utterly lights up when talking about them. He sees that light dull more the class mistreats him, but Komaeda never tells him anything’s wrong so Hinata’s just left with a bad feeling.

Honestly, basically their relationship in that Not Tomorrow fic I wrote like…in late 2016. Yeah, pretty much that. Minor tweaking may be a thing, but I can’t really think of anything major.

Actually, what would be a new major change/addition involving KomaHina in dr3 that I’m thinking would be a scene that shows them in the island simulation together because it’s such bullshit that we don’t get any “can you hear me?” scene even if the OVA (which is Valid) rectified that.

But what happens is Hinata getting a headache suddenly and ending up in tears because of it, making Komaeda give him a handkerchief while fretting over him. Hinata waves it off in part because he’s not sure what’s even happening there.

It’s because of Kamukura crying through him because FUCK THAT SCENE. He’s not crying about Nanami, mind you. Hell to the fuck no. But he is crying about being forced to forget someone.

Maybe the tears were brought about by Komaeda rattling a bunch possible talents for Hinata like in his first FTE and one of the ones he mentions is Ultimate Neurologist.

So KamuKoma… KamuKoma, KamuKoma, KamuKoma…

So Kamukura really only knows about Komaeda because Matsuda rants about having to take care of him but they don’t exactly meet until later.

That’s not to say they were never involved with each other.

I’m keeping in the shooting scene but the circumstances are WILDLY different. It would have to lack the pastel due to the situation (the real tragedy of this whole thing), but I still wouldn’t mind it happening.

But here, the two encounter each other because Kamukura has been observing many moments of despair from a distance. Just, a distance, and even though he personally detests Junko, despair continues drawing him in so he tries to watch from the shadows where even she, presumably, wouldn’t notice him.

So like, around the same time that Junko dropped off Nanami in the torture dungeon, Komaeda’s infiltrated the place due to good luck (and he brought a gun) and has just been wandering around. His wandering leads to a room where he’s forced to watch Nanami die slowly from behind a screen. Due to his isolation from the class, he had no idea this was happening so it’s a shock, to say the least.

That said, Kamukura ends up drawn in because what Komaeda showcases is despair but it’s a strange kind of despair he’s never seen before, and that startles Komaeda, to say the least.

Classmate’s suddenly dying before you and some rando shows up immediately after?

Yeah, that’s fucking suspicious so Komaeda pulls the gun on him. He hesitates for a moment, confused by Kamukura’s appearance, before interrogating him if he’s involved with any of this. He’s not getting any answers as Kamukura just stares at him.

And then, Kamukura asks him how many people he’s seen die and if that’s why his classmate dying so horribly didn’t phase him as much as it would any normal person. When Kamukura starts making accurate guesses about it, Komaeda gets more and more hysterical as he seems to realize who this person is.

Since he’s not exactly in a good state of mind, he giddily wonders “would this bullet even graze someone like you; do I have the luck for it; what would come from that” and Kamukura stops, giving him a cold glare.

Komaeda flinches and ends up pulling the trigger since his finger is already on it. The gun is jammed, but Kamukura takes it, tells him that he, too, has luck, and shoves him back before shooting him.Komaeda hits his head pretty hard, but he’s still conscious even as he bleeds from it. He’s really dizzy, vision blurring and distorting. Since he isn’t bleeding from what should be a bullet wound, Kamukura tosses the gun aside to investigate and pulls out the bullet-lodged student handbook.

He mutters that it seems Komaeda is truly “beloved by luck” and Komaeda grips his arm as tightly as he could. Due to head trauma, he can’t really speak coherently, and he does stumble over his words severely as he tries.

“U-Ult…im…ate… H… Hope…”

Flushed with excitement, he’s then completely out of it as Kamukura checks his hair. Kamukura’s fingers brush against scars that he recognizes belong to Matsuda, and his inkling of an idea of who this was is confirmed.

Sighing, he scoops Komaeda up to be treat him later. He’s unconcerned; the head trauma will likely block Komaeda’s memories of this event, and he tells himself that this is just because Matsuda would be irritated by him if he leaves one of Matsuda’s patients for dead.

Komaeda is still muttering into his suit and bleeding all over it, but he doesn’t really care about that. He regards the classmate’s corpse with a sigh of “how boring” before carrying Komaeda off.

He doesn’t flinch when Junko happily greets him and tries to talk to him through the various monitors. He ignores her as she acts shocked and hurt, even unaffected when she brings up Nanami as some “poor tragic heroine” that had reportedly been friends with the person Kamukura used to be and that it’s like something out of the novels or anime.

Kamukura brushes it all off, focused on getting Komaeda to safety.

“Aah, right, you didn’t know her so she’s as good as some insignificant stranger, huh?”

“…Y’know, Kamukura Izuru, I’m reaaaaally curious how you’d react to the death of someone who does matter to you. Upupupu… That kind of despair…”

“I really want to taste it for myself…!”

After Kamukura treats him, Komaeda later wakes up alone in a hospital room, hopelessly confused as to what happened to him, but feeling weirdly excited when he thinks about it. But, oh, what horrible luck, he just can’t remember it at all!

Oh god you opened the can of worms here my friend.

I love Kamukoma like...so much. It’s my OTP, just slightly above Komahina (sorry hinata) in terms of ships I adore beyond belief.

That probably sounds a bit weird, honestly, since Hinata and Komaeda’s relationship is clearly more positive, has more build up, etc, but friend just...listen for a second here.

The reason I like Kamukoma is actually pretty similar to why I like Komahina, in that I enjoy the element of understanding between the two.

Nah son, Chapter 0 backs me up here.

Izzy is, obviously, seeped in deep despair in CH.0, fuck you DR3, as he’s about to give up his own existance to be able to use Junko and presumably because he’s so bored nothing is entertaining so why not just die. So his lack of interest in Komaeda in that scene isn’t exactly unexpected.

But you know what is interesting?

Despite him calling Komaeda boring...he talks to him an awful lot. About pretty personal things - his vague plan, his beliefs, and his values. Which is where I get interested, because Izzy’s beliefs in CH.0...are basically the same as Komaeda’s.

Komaeda’s been told by society that the talentless are worthless, but I doubt...he’s really ever heard someone his age say that to his face. But what Kamukura says in CH.0, about the talentless being bugs that leech off of talent (yeah, I bet Komaeda relates to that; how many normal people do you think only came close to him at all to get things out of his luck/talent?) Dude...no wonder Komaeda gets so excited? This is someone who gets it, who understands why he feels this way.

That’s the only real core similarity in SDR2 (unless I’m forgetting something) but you can look based on their pasts that they would probably share more...moreover, I will personally Fight anyone who says that Komaeda is only interested in Kamukura because of his talent - that’s clearly not it. He’s interested in him in CH.0 because this kid shares his beliefs, his beliefs that he’s been isolated for among other things.

Basically what I’m getting at is that Komaeda is interested in Kamukura for a key part of himself - not because of his talent, not because he wants to use him - but because their views and experiences seem to be similar.

(That would be so huge for Izuru, if only he hadn’t already been completely jaded and broken by Junko and the researchers and could realize it :( ) 

It’s a small complaint I have with Komahina, but while Hinata can understand that feeling of worthlessness and desire to prove himself that Komaeda has...it’s extremely difficult for him to understand these darker, more problematic views - and that’s really why I like Kamukoma more, because based on CH.0, I really think that Kamukura could understand that darker part, could (dare I say) emphasize with Komaeda’s exasperation and resignation. And that’s...really important for Komaeda, I find.

On the other end, I think Kamukura would be surprised to find someone that just...genuinely enjoys talking to him and his genuine views he’s gained based on his hellish experiences. (Not saying these views are good, per se, just understandable.) Literally everyone who Kamukura ever met just wanted to use him. And sure, I’m certain Komaeda would idolize his talent, too, if he ever realized he had it or if Izuru ever flatly told him - but that initial connection would remain.

It’s a good ship, honestly - if you go into DR3 there’s even more support for them (ie, both joining ULT despair with the desire to see if/when hope will overcome despair, and of course their shared luck.) But honestly, in CH.0 there’s a lot too, even if Kamukura is unfortunately dismissive because he’s broken, at this point.
